what's absolute bonkers about gelphie's dynamic in the movie is that. the whole "loathing" part is presented so well. they don't hate each other, they're ANNOYED by each other because glinda fits in easily everywhere she goes and a part of elphaba envies that, and elphaba is exceptional at the thing that glinda wants most in this world.

and they have fun with it! through the whole of what is this feeling you can see their little smiles and their little pranks and constantly trying to outdo each other. and even "the artichoke is steamed" receives a little smirk of appreciation. they're enjoying this rivalry and banter! they're jealous of each other but there's a little bit of admiration for a game well played. it's soooo good.

the camera zoom in, a rare moment of closeness, that lead us expecting a reasonable answer, and then, "you chose it."

the intimacy gone. the camera stilled. the connection has been cut. sauron is now is in the same position as melkor, and celebrimbor is now in the same position as mairon. repeating the cycle.

The more the show progresses, the more I want to see the 90s cast infiltrating the modern timeline. We've gotten hints of it with Shauna and her younger self, her Jackie hauntings. We've gotten a little more with adult Lottie seeing teenage Nat (and Laura Lee), and with Natalie getting teenage Lottie in her final moments. I want more. I want the teen cast to be absolutely invasive on pivotal adult moments, infecting their adult counterparts when least expected. I want Taissa's argument with Van to dissolve into their teenage selves, their bond endless and timeless and inescapable. I want Misty absolutely wrecked by young Natalie lurking around corners, watching from mirrors. I want to see these women unable to navigate adulthood without the specters of their teenage selves cropping up absolutely everywhere, more and more as they let the memories in, as they stop being able to repress the trauma. They didn't grow up. They never could. You are always doomed to regress around your high school teammates. You are haunted by the phantom elements of your misspent youth. It is a comfort, and it is a gift, and it is a trial, and it is a curse. I would love to see that reflected with greater intensity, until the lines blur, until the timelines have no choice but to intersect. They haven't escaped themselves at all. They didn't grow up. They just got older.

can't stop thinking about Dmitri choosing what Sergei wears for the birthday dinner; especially because he does it in a manner that is so indescribably hot to me. (the way he looks him up and down, smiles almost condescendingly, but is clearly excited, tells him off for wearing what he does and wanting to stay in, almost whining about how it's his birthday and so obviously Sergei has to comply, already having a fitting suit ready at hand, etc.)

and so I'm just over here and absolutely running with that because nobody can tell me that Dmitri wouldn't do that with his partner, as well.

just- Dmitri choosing your outfit when he's going out with you (or for other occasions, or even generally), and you're both loving it because it's casual yet intimate, and it's also a great act of love and affection because in order to dress somebody in a way that makes them comfortable and happy you have to know them so deeply that it's transcending.
