Mel semi-dared me to type: “No, leave me alone.” So I have to include it. But in all seriousness, I'll respond this once, because it does allow me to update people a little bit. Though please know that your notification did have me pause mid-writing. Now, I want to politely, and respectfully direct you to my description on both dash-only and on my blog's theme, I also want to point your attention to my pinned post, and I believe that it's even in my rules, but I could be wrong. Though let me repeat it here:

The depictions you'll find here are canon-strict, and so you can expect many analyses of all kinds here, as dissecting the characters that I write is what I'm passionate about, and what I'm here for (and to write, of course!)

I admit, usually I aim to write more threads/asks consistently even if I'm excessively slow, and though I haven't updated the dash about my circumstances for a while (as I'm decently private about my life), know that writing meta has simply come a lot easier lately when time has permitted me to be on Tumblr. Now, that doesn't mean I don't value people's interest in writing with me, and I will live up to the promises that I've made that I will get to that (as I have occasionally done lately, and was in process of doing again)— but when meta comes easier to me, then I prioritize that as of late, simply because stress' best counter is the distraction that comes the easiest. Now this isn't by any means a waste of time, as it plays into what I quoted above. Because ultimately, here's my thing: I make it exceptionally clear everywhere on my blog that I am canon-strict (or as Tumblr, sadly, disrespectfully seems to call it nowadays: a 'lore purist'), and that this leads me to write a lot of analyses left and right on the characters that I write, but these are fundamental to understanding my portrayals of them. If that isn't your cup of tea, sir, or ma'am, then maybe this isn't the blog for you, and I don't mean that with malice, or in disrespect, but simply as a simple rebuke. In that, I greatly appreciate you checking in on behalf of my writing partners, but I'm also quite certain that they have the capacity to approach me themselves if they have any concerns. Witches and fae, in Mortem's lore, are two sides of the same coin on an individual basis. That's because fae and witches are both purpose bound entities. The difference? Witches have souls, making them more mortal leaning. Fae are soulless, making them more spirit leaning. Witches can die like any mortal (lest they do something abnormal, like Mortem). Fae cannot truly die, but they can be temporarily dispersed. Together, they circle one another in an intimate dance that few others can understand. Many witches will never know of the fae they are most alike. This is not a witch and familiar relationship we see in media a lot, this is just two separate entities existing and performing their purposes. Many times, they are distant dance partners. If it's in their nature to, they will meet and work together.

For Mortem, she knows who hers is because it's precisely the fae that nearly ended her world. Referred to as the Patron of Bones by many, due to his name being enough to garner his attention no matter how far from the world (or this plane of existence) he is.

Among the fae, he is the most human-like because he deals with the same things Mortem does. However, due to the cosmic issues in her universe, her patron fae has swung off course. He once balanced the delicate push and pull of life and entropy, nurturing potential - the one who threaded the fine string of chaos through the needle of peace. Hated by most, even then.

Now, due to the shift in the cosmos, he has swung solely into entropy. Using deception and chaos to send worlds spiraling into death. It's a mercy, by comparison to what's out there and turned him into this.

The only reason Mortem hasn't fallen onto the same path (in all her usual verses, save for the one verse she does) is solely because she harbors a soul. As mortal-like as her patron can be, he isn't. He understands the nuances of people but he himself is an other. So close and yet so far away. And without a soul, he doesn't question his shift and adaptive nature.

Mortem, however, can question. Even when shifts happen, she can reflect and puzzle it out. She is a force of nature but the soul makes her a person enough to do that.

A very big motivation for Mortem is alleviating his spiraling madness as something far worse out there twists and contorts the nature of fae, spirits and all things without souls. As it drives some beings with souls mad due to their inability to comprehend what its doing.

A lot of what Mortem does has the long term goal of setting her patron fae back on course - which means dealing with the entity out there that is destroying the potential that exists within her universe.

That being said... Mortem is also quite pissed off at him after watching what he did to her world. In what he did to the world that came before hers. He is currently banned from her world, despite his attempts to evade that ban, and grows more insufferable each time they meet. Despite her caring so fucking much, whenever he puppeteers a grotesque bundle of mud and bones, she uses destroys it quickly to not have to listen to him.

Her own patron baits her by just showing up in her dreams, in the 'flesh' or if he just comes up in her thoughts/conversations. In death and in the afterlife (when he visits, that is), they absolutely throw hands. Until then, she just ignores the very thought of him as she works towards her goal and serves her purpose.

Despite him not at all being happy about the world ban or Mortem ignoring him often - he just bides his time. One foot still trapped in his prison and the other outside of it, trying to do what he needs to be fully free again.

b.ernie h.ayes — m.onsterverse ( he's such a tragic character, very much a "cassandra figure" exiled for predicting the truth and rarely given his due, and i love writing him and his weirdness whenever i get the chance. this fandom is dead af, at least as far as rp is concerned, so i'd love to try tossing him into some aus if anyone was game. also, someone give me a trapper to write him with, i'm begging you; i do also write trapper myself lmao so if you'd want to swap roles and try your hand at bernie, i'd be down, it's always great to see bernie get more love. )

clemens — d.racula/last voyage of the d.emeter ( i love him so much, and i have so many ideas. he starts hunting vampires in 1897 in london after encountering d.racula at sea, and i'd love for him to meet other kinds of supernatural beings, or maybe even vampires who aren't evil. i also like the idea of an age of sail situation, with supernatural shit involved or not. )

r. m. r.enfield — r.enfield/d.racula ( one of my favorite underrated characters ever, and one i've spent copious amounts of time creating backstory and headcanons for. now that i've moved him from his own blog to here, i'd love to continue exploring him through rp. i'd love period threads, or threads set in the modern day; let him meet non-evil vampires, let him explore more of the supernatural world in general. be his roommate, idk. hell, let him be a muse's familiar but in a not toxic way! i have so many ideas and verses for this weirdo. )

sam singh-benford — r.esident e.vil oc ( sam is an oc i'm very proud of, and i'll always jump at the chance to write him more often. his passion as a photojournalist and his connections get him into a lot of dangerous places, and sometimes into a lot of trouble, but i love his resilience and determination to reveal the truth. he can easily cross paths with a lot of re muses, canon or other ocs. i guarantee you, he'll find a way lmao. )

f.itzwilliam d.arcy — p.ride and p.rejudice ( i loved writing this socially awkward man lmao. it was through this muse that i met some people i still talk with to this day, and one good friend i even still rp with on this blog. i know it's sacrilege, but i used his zombies verse the most, since t.wd fandom was really big, as well as re, and i enjoyed it so much. idk if i'll ever revisit him as a muse, but he helped me grow my writing immensely. )

s.am l.oomis — h.alloween ( i've written him on-and-off for years. we're off again at the moment because i didn't find many people interested in interacting with him at this point in time, but he might reappear if that changes. regardless, eventually, he always comes back lmao. )

d.avid c.ollins — the g.uest ( a niche muse that i'd bring back in a heartbeat tbh. the friend i wrote him with left tumblr rp, and i tried making verses for him in other fandoms, but no interactions ever really stuck. i still have long headcanon posts for him in my drafts here and a lot of interest in rping him again whether in canon or other verses, but i understand that people aren't always interested in writing with muses from a fandom they're not in. maybe someday! )

k.anan j.arrus — s.tar w.ars ( i thought about adding back he and zeb together, but ultimately just brought zeb back for now. i think i want to reread the k.anan comics before i truly consider writing him again. )

f.iyero t.igelaar — w.icked ( this is a big maybe. this is my favorite musical and i'd like to write a muse i love from it, but idk if i'm going to at this moment. i am Unsure. )
