Previous Part | (Series Chapter List)
James came down with the rest of the marauders to find you had already fixed a big plate of breakfast for him. He gave you a peck on the cheek as he took off his quidditch jumper before sitting down.
“Thanks, bug.”
“Why do you call me that?” you asked, taking a bite of your English muffin.
“Do you not like it? I can call you something else.”
“No, I like it. I was just wondering why.”
James shrugged. “Never thought about it… You’re cute and little, some bugs are cute and little. Yep, makes sense.”
“I’m not little.”
“You’re littler than me. It counts.”
“You’re freakishly tall.”
“Remus is freakishly tall.”
“So are you.” You popped a fried potato chunk in your mouth.
“Just accept it, bug.”
You went back to your breakfast, deciding his answer and little argument was satisfactory enough for you. James nudged you with his shoulder, beginning a mini battle between the two of you until he finally conceded. It was still a learning process for the two of you, trying to figure out how to play up your fake dating. Your friends were definitely suspicious and while Lily seemed to move a bit closer, Xeno didn’t even glance your way.
You were worried that maybe you and James were switching places in regards to the objects of your affection. You felt something squeeze your thigh ever so slightly and looked over to see James was seemingly in conversation with Peter. He must’ve caught you staring too long at the Ravenclaw table and a certain someone.
Shaking your head, you went back to eating. That’s right. You were with James and you two needed to be sickeningly in love. Besides, Lily was coming around so maybe Xeno was just distracted right now. You opened up your journal to jot down a few notes. A looming presence hung over your right shoulder.
“Yes, Jamie?” you asked without looking up.
“I’m just looking at your calendar.” He pointed to a blank Wednesday. “Quill in a study date, right when classes end.”
“Study? James Potter, when have you ever studied anything that wasn’t Charms and Defense?”
“Well, do you really need to study wand lore or broom craft? And does memorizing a whole script count as studying?”
“It does when you’re in a drama club. And if I can’t become an actress then I need to feed myself so I’m learning to make quidditch equipment. You idiots break at least two brooms every week each, not to mention the other stuff. I’ll never have to worry about money.”
“You’re learning about quidditch?”
You finally looked up, recognizing the shift in James’ tone from when you two were acting for your friends versus being genuine. Giving your fake boyfriend a smile, you stole some food off his plate.
“It’s not because you like it. It’s because you, especially, are rich and will buy my brooms and convince all your teammates to buy my brooms.”
He laughed so loud it made students at the other houses’ tables, including Xeno, look over. James squished your cheeks and gave you a peck.
“I should have known you were only with me for my money. Well, I hate to inform you, love, I’ve just squandered the family fortune on flying carpets.”
You rolled your eyes. “How do you have a cute comeback for everything?”
“You think it’s cute?”
You stood up from the table. “You are the cutest, Jamie. The most adorable scrumdiddlyumptious squishy-wishy super-duper boyfriend in the whole world.”
“I sense I’m being teased.”
“I would never tease you, Jamie bo-baimey taimey waimey rai—”
“Ha ha, very funny. Now you deserve the punishment jumper.”
“Punishment jumper? What am I, five years old?” Your words were muffled by a red jumper covering your face before your head popped out the other side. You looked down. “You just wanted me to wear your jumper.”
James blushed and you wanted to laugh. Natural blush wasn’t easy with fake dating but the two of you figured out a relatively uncomfortable trick if the two of you weren’t on the same page. You were allowed to picture Xeno whenever you wanted and James was allowed to picture Lily. He was totally imagining her in his jumper— it probably helped that you and Lily were the same height and body type so the jumper fit exactly like it would on her.
Your fake boyfriend scratched the back of his head. “Some of the team was talking about how they like seeing their partner in their jumpers and I wanted to know what that was like.”
“And?”
“Don’t know yet, it just looks like I dropped it on you.”
“That’s cause you did drop it on me. Wait, let me fix it.”
You pulled out the collar and untucked your shirt so the tails were sticking out. The sweater almost covered your skirt entirely since it was already oversized on James that you weren’t sure if you’d get a violation or not but you didn’t try to adjust it. You gave a little twirl.
“Tada.”
“You look great.”
Leaning over James, who covered your skirt with his hands to make sure nothing showed, you collected your stuff. “I’ll see you later, okay? Marls, are you coming with me to Herbology or still eating?”
Marlene tried to recover from getting caught staring, mouth open, at you and James. She shook her head no and you made your way out of the Great Hall to head to Herbology. James left only five minutes after you in order to give your friends space to gossip in peace.
The two of you were counting on Sirius and Mary to get louder by the minute until it garnered everyone’s attention. You were sure it worked when Alice came into the greenhouse practically squealing at you. You and James were the hottest topic in school. All you could do was roll your eyes and keep taking notes as Alice started planning your entire future together. You turned to look at your friend. James wouldn’t hate you for telling one person. You both had planned to tell your closest friends when the time was right and you couldn’t take keeping a secret anymore.
“Hey, Alice. Me and Jam—”
The door to the greenhouse swung open but it was Professor Sprout that came in. It was James standing in the threshold.
“Your birthday is this weekend,” he said, pointing an accusatory finger.
“Yes, James.”
“Bug, you didn’t say what you wanted for your birthday.”
“I’m okay.”
“What?” His eyebrows crinkled together. “You don’t want anything?”
“It’s not that big a deal.”
“Birthdays are a completely big deal.”
“Well… I just don’t want anybody spending too much on me this year. My parents and I are saving up for university… if there is a university.”
It was an unspoken thing that no student might make it to university when the war was ramping up. If Voldemort and the Death Eaters got bigger, a draft was likely to happen. And unlike muggles, men and women were drafted in the wizarding world since all the fighting was done with magic and didn’t require any strength outside of mental. James shook his head.
“That’s an even better reason to give you something. It won’t be large, I promise.”
“Small things can still be very expensive.”
“Honestly, I’ve never looked at a price tag in my life.”
You sighed. “You and Sirius live totally different lives from the rest of us, I wish I had rich parents… Okay, I concede. If it isn’t big then it can be whatever you want.”
“Good. I have to go now before Slughorn loses his mind that I’m not there or worse pairs me up with Snape as a punishment.”

Balcony - Seth Borden x Reader
SUMMARY - Seth, your best friend and crush, learns about the state of your mental health when an investigation starts affecting you. His response isn't quite what you expected
WARNINGS - Ghost stuff, mentions of self-harm and suicide (reader is NOT okay), angst (fluffy ending)
WORDS - 6.6k
NOTES - first fic I’ve written in a while and it ended up very dialogue heavy. I also didn't expect it to be this long but here we are
~*~*~*~
Sometimes you weren’t sure why you trusted these boys so much. Sam had requested two things of you for this investigation: one, that you didn’t do any research beforehand so you’d learn the lore from the guide, and two, that you all arrive in the same car so you can have the drive up experience with everyone else. You had gotten into the habit of arriving to locations early to scope the place out before anyone else and doing research before investigations, and the boys started to get pouty about not sharing the experiences, so you complied. It had also been a while since you’d been on an investigation with Seth, so you were excited to see him again.
You had met Seth after the Sallie House investigation. The boys had immediately FaceTimed you after both the Sallie House and Villisca investigations (and every investigation thereafter that you weren’t involved in) to tell you what they had experienced, and he caught your attention quite quickly. The excitement in his voice and energy about his experiences drew you in somehow more than the other three did, despite Nate practically jumping around the room when he was talking about the 8-ball. You’d been friends with him ever since and loved teaming up with him whenever possible. You had even been on his channel a few times.
To say you two were close was something of an understatement. He had started calling you after his own investigations, and even showed up to your house all hyped about some evidence he caught on numerous occasions. The two of you had grown comfortable with one another very quickly. You had shared beds when locations didn’t have enough for everyone, you constantly teased one another, and you were more than a little physically affectionate with each other. Josh often teased you for being so affectionate, but you were comfortable.
The first time the teasing bothered you happened only a few months ago. Josh, along with Sam and Colby, had been making jokes about you and Seth being practically married. You were about to respond with a bad joke about finishing paperwork, but Seth replied first. The laugh that broke up his words when he said he could never be with someone like you hurt. The fact that he found the whole concept funny enough to laugh at shattered any shred of self-confidence you had left in you. He thought you were gross. You swallowed the pain and laughed along with him, but every interaction with him from then on made you feel guilty for bothering him so much.
Eventually, it got easier to act normal again, but the thought that maybe he was serious about what he said still lingered.
The majority of the hour-long drive to the location consisted of Sam and Colby quietly discussing their plans in the front seat, and you and Seth fighting over a bag of gummy worms in the back. Colby finally intervened when you managed to slap Seth in the shoulder with one.
“Let’s film the intro before these two start a war in the back seat. Everyone ready?” Colby cut in, taking what felt like the 10th right turn the whole drive. Everyone settled, and Sam hit record.
“What’s up guys, its Sam and Colby, and today we are bringing Seth and Y/N to the famous Haunted Miller House in Fredericktown, Missouri. We are currently… fifteen minutes away from the house. How’s everyone feeling?”
“I’m excited bro. I’ve been wanting to come here for like, almost two years,” Seth admitted as he leaned forward in his seat. You leaned in as well to be heard better by the camera.
“I’ve said this before, but the fact that it’s a house freaks me out just a bit. It screws with my sense of security when we do haunted houses, like, homes are where you’re supposed to feel safe and there’s fucking spirits here. No thank you.”
“I’ll keep you safe, don’t worry,” Seth replied. You raised your eyebrow at him.
“Oh what, Ghost Bait’s gonna protect me? No thanks, I’ll just smoke the sage.”
“Ouch, damn, alright. Fuck me, I guess.”
“Damn, roasting him back here. Colby how do you feel about this place?” Sam turned the camera forward to the driver's seat, missing Seth’s pout and your finger heart to apologize for the joke. It was all in good fun and both of you knew that. It was funny to play it up for the camera.
Two minutes away from the house, Sam pulled out the camera again. It felt like you were almost out in the middle of nowhere, even though town was less than half an hour down the road. The property sat on 15 acres of land, which was mostly forest save for the few acres that were cleared out for the house and yard. What was once farmland on the south side of the property had overgrown and been reclaimed by nature, though it was still obviously used for farming at some point. As soon as the house was in sight, everyone let out their excitement for the camera.
The house was beautiful, even in its decaying state. Nobody had dared to actually live there since the 1890s, and it sat abandoned until the 1970s, when it was taken over for paranormal research. Many investigators had come through the place, and unfortunately in the early days of it being open to the public, many frauds had come through. It had been closed again in 1994, and only reopened by approved booking only since 2014.
The house was three stories, in an almost Victorian style, with a white exterior and a deep green trim. Large windows covered a rounded section on the northeast corner of the house. Even with the peeling paint, it still held a certain elegance. Your jaw dropped at the sight.
“There’s a fucking wrap around porch are you shitting me?!” you exclaimed, admiring the architecture as Colby drove slowly closer.
“This place is sick, dude. The architecture is amazing,” Seth commented.
“Haunted or not, I’d kill to live in a house like this. Let’s just move in and pretend there’s no ghosts,” you joked. Something clicked in Sam and Colby’s minds the longer they looked at it.
“Doesn’t it feel a bit like the Winchester Mystery house? Just a bit?”
“I was just thinking that, yea. A little bit, like just the style sorta…”
As Sam and Colby continued talking to the camera, your eyes drifted up to a balcony on the third story, just barely visible from the front of the house. The railing matched the deep green trim of the house, and three large windows lined the wall behind it. You couldn’t figure out why it intrigued you so much. It was just a balcony, though you were sure the view over the north side of the property was amazing You hadn’t even noticed that the car had stopped until Colby opened the door to the back seat.
“You comin’? We can take a minute here if you’re too nervous.”
“No I’m good, just spacing out a bit. I may need to crack open a RedBull already.”
“Don’t drink it all just yet. We’ve got a long night ahead of us. Come on, help me grab the equipment and we’ll head inside.”
Sam broke the news that the guide was running late, but they had told him where they kept a hidden key, so the four of you let yourselves in and decided where to set up home base for the night. Sunset wasn’t for another hour, so none of the rooms on the first floor felt very spooky just yet. You decided the living room felt the best, and everyone got to work checking batteries and equipment.
“I’m gonna go wander around for a bit, see if I can find the bathrooms in this place,” you announced, having finished helping Sam sort out batteries and making sure your own camera was fully charged.
“Dpn’t fall in,” Seth joked as he messed with the settings on his camera. You flipped him off and wandered towards the staircase, shaking your head as the boys laughed behind you.
“Hey Y/N!” Sam called out.
“Yeah?”
“Guide should be here in about 20 minutes, make sure to get back down here by then!”
“I will!”
The house seemed fairly well preserved, though you assumed it had been at least a bit fixed up since the 90s. The winding staircase going up the entirety of the home seemed a bit too sturdy for its age. There was a large room on the second floor that looked to be a study or small library, with dust covered books lining the walls. There were two decent sized bedrooms on that floor as well, and two bathrooms, which you took a dutiful mental note of.
The third floor was fairly similar, but with three bedrooms, and instead of a study there was a room that you presumed was a sort of living room area. There were gorgeous antique couches and rugs, mostly free of dust. Curtains, strangely, only lined two large windows on the east side of the room The windows on the north side were very bare, as was the door next to it. The door leading outside to the balcony. You walked towards the door, using a fair amount of force to nudge it open. It swung outwards, and the light breeze cooled your face as you stepped out.
The view was beautiful, just as you had anticipated. You could smell the fresh air as it blew by you, feel the chill on your cheeks. You could almost imagine yourself laying in the large grass yard at night, listening to crickets and staring up at the stars. You told yourself you had to come back here once the sun went down, even for a five second glance at the cosmos. There was bound to be almost no light pollution, and you’d definitely need some pictures.
The wood of the railing felt rough against your fingers, almost bumpy as you pulled yourself closer to it. You hadn’t quite realized how high up you were until you looked down. You stretched up to your toes to get a better feel for the height and then…something changed. Something felt different the moment you looked as far down as you could manage. Your hands gripped the railing, but somehow you felt oddly at peace. You couldn’t move your gaze from its downward position, but you didn’t want to anyways. You let your eyes unfocus, and you took a deep breath. Something about this view felt so… final. Your ears were ringing.
Normally you steered clear of heights, too afraid of your own thoughts and impulses to allow yourself near them. In this moment, it wasn’t the same. You welcomed it, whether by choice or not, you welcomed the feelings that were coming to the surface. You focused on the view. The changing view. It was changing…
A hand on your shoulder snapped you from your stupor, your head whipping in the direction of the sensation. Seth looked at you, wide eyed and confused. Your ears stopped ringing.
“Are you good? I’ve been calling your name for a solid minute here. Did you see something?” You blinked, risking a glance back out over the trees.
“Uh, no, no. It’s just really pretty out here. Admittedly I did space out a bit, but I’ve just been looking,” you said, still unsure of what just happened.
“I thought you were afraid of heights, why the hell were you looking down like that?”
“I don’t know, just… just looking around, honestly.”
“Well the guide got here ten minutes ago, I’ve been looking for you. Let’s head downstairs and get you an energy drink on the way.”
“Yea… you know what, I’ll meet you down there. I just want to get some pictures really quickly.”
“You left your camera downstairs. Are you positive you’re okay? You seem a bit out of it.”
“I’m fine Seth. I just want another minute.”
“Okay no, we’re going. You’re acting weird and I don’t want this to be some ‘call of the void’ shit. Let’s go.” His hand once again made its way to your arm, but you resisted his pull. You didn’t mean to, you fully intended to listen and go with him, but your body decided otherwise. “Y/N, you’re starting to freak me out.” Another arm planted itself around your waist, and you were brought inside. The moment you passed through the doorway, the pull you were feeling was gone. “You wanna tell me what the fuck that was about?”
“I don’t- I think I’m just nervous to be in here. You know how I am about houses.”
“We’re safe, we’re gonna sage as soon as the guide leaves. If anything goes sideways, we’ll leave, alright? Let’s get downstairs. They’re waiting for us.”
~*~*~*~
Marsha had a very captivating way of telling stories. You had heard plenty of guides tell their stories about their paranormal experiences and the lore of the locations, but she had done a good job of keeping your interest and making the stories seem just as scary as they actually were.
“Wait, so Edwin, the father, cheated of Gwendolyn with six different women, and then when she found out, she shot him in the cellar, went upstairs, locked all four kids in one of the bedrooms, set them on fire, and then killed herself?” Colby attempted to recap the story that she had just told. He was in a chair next to her, Sam holding the camera standing across from Colby. You and Seth were spread on on a couch across from her, listening intently. Your legs were halfway across the couch, knees bent slightly so as not to jab Seth in the leg with your boot. He leaned forward as Colby spoke, elbows meeting his knees and hands coming up to cover his mouth in shock.
“Yea, you’ve got it just about right there,” Marsha replied nodding. Sam chimed in with his own question from behind the camera.
“So, what would you say are the most active areas of the house?”
“Most people that come through here say that the cellar, the dining room, the room where the kids died, and the balcony up on the top floor are the most active. You get a lot of stuff happening there. Some people hear stuff, some even smell stuff, and your equipment should be pretty responsive in those areas as well.”
“What’s significant about the dining room and the balcony?” Seth asked.
“Well people have claimed to hear a number of things in the dining room, whether its parties or Edwin and Gwendolyn arguing and throwing things at each other. We’ve even come in to see some of the dinnerware smashed when nobody had been inside for three days. The balcony is where Gwendolyn jumped off and killed herself. Y’all should be careful up there.”
“Hold on, she jumped? I read that she shot herself or drank poison or something. I didn’t see anything about her jumping to her death.”
“People used to think it was something else because of a fake medium that came through here in the 70s or 80s, but we’ve learned the truth since. By the way, if any of you struggle with depression, if you self-harm or think about suicide at all, I'd advise you don’t set foot on that balcony. It affects people that have that kind of thing bad enough.”
“How does it affect people?” You finally speak up, trying your best to keep your voice and expression one of genuine curiosity. You didn’t want the dread to show. You hoped she would say anything but what she was about to say.
“Well nobody’s thrown themselves off or anything, but it definitely picks up on those feelings and seems to amplify them. We’ve had a few guests and mediums tell us that they felt what Gwendolyn probably felt before she jumped. They said they felt rooted to the spot staring off that balcony, like they couldn’t move. They didn’t say they were scared when it happened, but they felt like they needed to be there, and they thought about jumping even though they couldn’t move. It’s only ever been people that hurt themselves or are already thinking about suicide, as far as we’re aware. So now we warn everyone about that. No depressed people on the balcony, we don’t need any more ghosts,” she explained, adding a small laugh to her final sentence.
You looked at the camera, feigning a surprised face. You could feel Seth’s eyes on you, but you couldn’t look at him. Your cheeks felt hotter than they had a moment before. He had connected dots that you had hoped he would never connect, and now you couldn’t look at your best friend. You all thanked her, and you tried to be casual about your goodbyes. The front door clicked shut behind her. Sam and Colby went to gather equipment for the first investigation, leaving you and Seth alone in the living room.
“Tell me what happened on the balcony wasn’t what she was just talking about.” There was a faint shake in his voice, as if he was scared of what you might say. He stood behind the couch now, a few feet from where you were still seated, eyes boring a hole into the back of your neck. You tried to think of a quick lie.
“It wasn’t. I genuinely went up there to get pictures,”. You claimed. You shifted sideways on the couch. You were still too nervous to look at him directly, but you wanted to acknowledge him.
“Without your camera? With the heights? Y/N, you’ve always asked me to get the pictures that are anywhere near any sort of drop, even with guardrails and shit. You understand why I don’t believe you, right?”
“I am begging you to believe me, Seth. When have I ever shown signs of being depressed? I’m fine!”
You weren’t fine, and up until this moment Seth believed you every time those words left your mouth. You had developed quite the skill for hiding your issues, even from the people closest to you. Your mental health had been getting worse and worse, finally devolving into its current tragic state only a few months ago. You were so scared at first that they would spot the wounds on your wrists and hips immediately, but you had no such fear anymore. You had been hiding too well to worry up until now.
You never wanted him to know, never wanted any of them to know. You didn’t want to bother them with this when they had their own lives to live and personal stuff to deal with. You didn’t want to hear the anger in their voices if they ever found out, didn’t want them to think you were weak or pathetic, but you couldn’t hide it anymore. Not from him.
“Please just tell me the truth. You don’t have to tell me how bad it is, but you need to tell me if it is bad, because not only am I incredibly scared that you haven’t told anyone about this, but this is also about your safety right now. If you’re- fuck, Y/N/N, if you're hurting yourself or thinking about killing yourself, we can’t go anywhere near the third floor. I might just take you home because I don’t want to risk this. Please just tell me nothing's wrong because I don’t want to believe what I’m hearing.” His voice was clearly cracking now, and you felt a pain in your chest every time you heard it.
As you finally turned to look at him, your hear shattered. Seth didn’t cry often, but the tear tracks lining both his cheeks were so obvious. More tears spilled from his eyes as you looked at him, the look in his eyes a silent plea for you to convince him that he doesn’t have to worry about you. You felt so guilty seeing him like this.
“Whoa, what’s wrong? Seth, what happened?” Sam’s voice came from behind you. You sighed and shook your head at Seth, whose eyes still hadn’t looked away from you. It was bad enough he knew; you didn’t want to drag anyone else into this. A beat of silence passed before he spoke.
“Y/N can’t go near the balcony,” Seth said simply, allowing the others to figure out what he meant.
“Actually? Like Y/N… fuck, really?”
You closed your eyes in defeat, resting your head in your hands. The couch cushion dipped next to you as a hand was gently placed on your shoulder. Your knees drew closer to your chest. You hoped that, somehow, if you curled up and closed your eyes, this would just go away.
“Look, we’re not gonna make you do anything like that, especially if it’ll affect you negatively. Even if I’m assuming wrong here, which frankly I hope I am, and it’s just the heights that are freaking you out-“
“It’s not the fucking heights, Colby. It’s not- they were on that fucking balcony earlier before the guide showed up, staring at the fucking ground. I had to physically drag them inside because they wouldn’t come in when I asked. It only fucking affects people who- God damn it. It’s already affected them and I want to get them the fuck out of this house,” Seth interjected. He was pacing now, picking at the sleeves of his flannel. You had never seen him this freaked out by anything. Colby’s hand moved from your shoulder to your back. You still didn’t want to look anyone in the eye, opting to peek through the gap between your knees to look around the room.
“I-… I don’t know how long you’ve been feeling like this, and I do think we should talk about it at some point because trust me, its really important to talk to people about this stuff, but I kinda agree with Seth that you should probably sit this one out.” You whipped your head up and jumped from the couch, moving yourself across the room from everyone.
“No, for god's sake I’m a grown adult. I can make these decisions for myself. Put me on a leash if it’ll make you feel safer but I’m not leaving. I’ve been wanting to come here for months. Can we talk about this after we investigate, please? I’m not missing out on an investigation because you guys are overprotective. I’ll be fine.”
The silence that followed your words was tense. Sam and Colby looked back and forth between everyone, but you and Seth just stared directly at each other. The gears were turning in both of your heads, deciding what to do or say from here.
“The millisecond you feel like you want to go up there you tell someone. Immediately. You can’t go anywhere alone, no solos. I’m not even gonna give you the luxury of pissing by yourself while we’re here. Stick with us at all times, hold my hand, whatever you need to do to stay away from that balcony. I will handcuff us together, I swear to God. I hate this but if you stay in my sight I’ll deal,” Seth rambled, stepping closer to you.
You knew damn well that he would absolutely physically attach himself to you if he thought it was necessary. You also knew that there was no escaping the inevitable conversation that you really didn’t want to have. The investigation gave you time to prepare, or more favorably, give them a chance to forget that you’re not okay. As much as you wanted to go back to the balcony, you knew that realistically, they wouldn’t let you, which was probably for the best. Your arms crossed themselves over your chest.
“Fine, fine. As long as I get to stay. Where’s our first stop here?”
~*~*~*~
True to his word, Seth did not leave your side the entire night. Even when he went under for an Estes session, he kept a hand on your knee, and kept a tight grip on your ankle when you went under later in the night. The higher in the house you got, the more you could feel the pull. Your name had come up a few times during the night, usually followed by ‘follow’ or ‘up’, which didn’t sit well with any of the boys. If the cameras weren’t such a constant presence, he would’ve had a firm grip on your waist, but instead he opted for the bottom of your shirt and your belt loops so the cameras wouldn’t pick up so much of the constant touch. You wanted to be annoyed, but you couldn’t exactly complain about having him so close for hours at a time.
The only place left was the balcony. The boys seem in consensus that Sam and Colby would investigate out there, and you and Seth would take one last crack at the dining room. You, however, had another idea.
“Can you give me the courtesy of hearing me out on an idea real quick? I know none of you like it, but I think we all know the best evidence we could get on that balcony is if I’m out there. It would- don’t look at me like that, I’m right. I’m not gonna jump or anything. Look, I was feeling something when I was out there earlier, I was seeing things, but Seth pulled me back before I could figure out what it was. I know my limits, just trust me,” you pleaded.
“I still don’t think it’s a good idea for you to be out there. Even if there wasn’t a risk to your safety, this could trigger you or something. I just don’t think that’s worth the risk,” Colby argued. You looked to Sam for help, but you knew he agreed with Colby. “Besides, if people know the lore and then see you being affected by this, they’re gonna do the math. I mean, is that really something you want fans to know?”
“Fuck the fans and frankly, fuck the cameras. You know I rarely feel stuff like this during investigations. This is real, man. I was drawn to it before I even knew what happened out there. I wasn’t even trying to learn anything, I had zero intentions besides exploring the house, and it was that strong? We can't just ignore that. This will be good evidence and you know it, even if it’s just for ourselves.”
“I fucking hate this,” Seth mumbled, pulling you closer to him. “I’ll let you out there on two conditions. One, that I hold onto you the entire goddamn time we’re out there, and two, we have this conversation right after we finish, out in the yard. As much as I want to do it the second the cameras are off, I don’t want anything in this house feeding off of that energy.”
“You’ve been holding me this entire time, I wouldn’t expect any less right now. Yard would be smart… I just don’t want to talk about it at all. I’d rather pretend everything’s normal but you’re not gonna let that slide.”
“Well it isn’t normal, and we’re gonna address it. Now, do you want me to hold your hand or what? What’s the plan out there?”
“Estes? I can go under and hold the railing. I feel like that would be at least a decent trigger, give us some good results. If nothing else, I can just stand there for a bit and tell you what happens. It honestly felt like scrying just without the mirrors,” you suggested.
“This is insane, I can’t believe you want to do this,” Sam said. He handed you the blindfold.
“You spent the night in the conjuring basement Sam, you can’t say shit.”
“Fair.”
~*~*~*~
“Okay guys, we are about to do something… unusual for our last investigation tonight. This balcony is said to have a weird energy about it, and Y/N thinks they can tap into it. Now, even though our guide said there was no real safety issue up here, we’re still gonna be as careful as possible, so Seth is gonna hold onto Y/N while they go under for one final Estes session,” Sam explained to the camera. He pointed it towards you, already pressed up to the railing with Seth’s arms firmly around you. You slipped the blindfold and headphones over your ears, and focused on the static. The boys started with their questions.
“Gwendolyn, are you here with us?”
“Me. Hello.”
“Hi Gwendolyn. We just want to ask you a few questions. We mean you no harm, we just want to communicate and tell people your story. Can you tell us how you died?”
“Husband.”
“Husband… there is that theory that Edwin actually killed her and that he was the one that set the fires, and then killed himself in the cellar out of grief. Do you think-“
“No. No.”
“No, so you did kill yourself?”
“That’s correct.”
“Gwendolyn, why do you draw people to this spot? Do you want them to know how you felt when you died?”
“Feeling. It hurts. Can’t understand.”
“We’re so sorry that you had to go through that. You didn’t deserve for your husband to treat you like that.”
“Why did you kill your children, Gwendolyn?”
“Don’t talk about-… fuck you.”
“Damn, she does not want to talk about that.”
“Leave me alone. I’m going.”
“Where are you going?”
“Down. Down.”
“We want to ask you a few more questions, is that okay?”
“Deserve this. Nobody loves-… not worth anything.”
“That’s not true. You didn’t deserve wha happened to you. We’re so sorry you didn’t have a happier life.”
“Taking them with me.”
“Taking your kids with you?”
“Let go. Off. Borden. Go away.”
“Oh fuck no, We’re ending this.”
“Y/N. With me. Jump.”
Seth yanked you back from the railing as Colby pulled the headphones and spirit box away from you. You were drained all of the sudden, feeling a bit shaky and dizzy. Normally you needed to be under much longer for it to get to you, but this session really took it out of you, physically and emotionally. You didn’t even know what you had been talking about but you didn’t feel fantastic. He pulled the blindfold off your face when you didn’t move to take it off.
“That was fucked up. We’re never doing anything like that again.”
“What was the conversation? Did it make sense?”
“We’ll talk about it downstairs. I don’t want us to be up here anymore, but it made perfect sense. That was terrifying.”
~*~*~*~
The grass was soft, having benefitted from the recent week of rainfall. The stars littered the sky above you, giving you something to focus on other than the heavy silence between you and Seth. Sam and Colby were packing up the last of the equipment in the house, giving the two of you space to talk.
“It was like… the feelings weren’t mine. I fully felt them but it wasn’t coming from me? It’s hard to explain. It was intense.”
“We need to talk about your feelings. You keep dodging the issue and talking about Estes. You agreed we would talk.” You crossed your arms over your chest in an attempt to tamp down the nerves buzzing behind your rib cage.
“I know, I know. Fuck, I never wanted anyone to know. I don’t even know how to talk about it. I don’t want to make this your problem.”
“You’re not making it my problem, it isn’t a problem in the first place. It is, however, my business when the people I love are hurting and I have the ability to do something about it. Just… don’t worry about phrasing it correctly, just say whatever comes to mind and we’ll make sense of it together. How long have you felt like this? How bad is it?”
“Since I was twelve, in one form or another. It got worse as I got older, and this is the worst its ever been. I uh… I do cut and I think about suicide a lot. It’s passive though, I don’t have a plan or anything. I just… I’ve tried so many things. Therapy has never helped, my medication does fuck all, all my coping mechanisms stop being effective eventually. It just feels so helpless, like I’m never gonna get better, so why would I put my energy into trying? Every therapist I’ve had has told me that it’s basically managing my symptoms and keeping afloat at this point anyways and I don’t want to fucking- I don’t want to spend the rest of my life keeping afloat. It’s fucking miserable.”
“Have you ever talked to anyone besides a therapist?”
“No, I hate bothering people with this shit. I feel like I’m needy enough without it.”
“You’re not needy, and this doesn’t classify as bothering anyone. It’s using your support system. We’re your friends. We love you. We’re here for you, so let us be here for you.”
“You shouldn’t have to fucking babysit someone that you think is pathetic! You deserve better than putting up with my bullshit! Fuck, I should’ve never come here! This conversation is over until you can get it through your thick fucking skull-“
“Whoa, hey! Y/N, stop!” Seth grabbed your shoulders, stopping your attempt to walk away from him. “What the fuck are you talking about? I never said you were pathetic, and you aren’t. Is this just the depression talking or has someone actually made you feel like you’re pathetic for feeling like this because I swear to fucking god-“
“Do you actually love me? Do you enjoy being friends with me or are you just tolerating me because I work with Sam and Colby? Please just fucking be honest with me. I’d rather have my feelings hurt now than have you put up with me out of obligation. I know I’m not worth the attention or energy most of the time. I know I’m annoying and add nothing to investigations. I add nothing to anyone’s lives and I’m just sort of here, but I just need someone to fucking say it to my face because I’ll happily leave if it’ll make your lives easier.”
You were almost shaking now, hot tears spilling down both of your faces. The heartbroken look on his face sent a pain shooting through your chest. You had made him feel like this and you hated yourself all the more for it.
“I have never, ever felt that way about you. You have no idea the amount of times I turn to say something to you during investigations and get sad when you’re not there. You’re the first person I run to when I have something cool to say. I choose to use my attention and energy on you because I do love you. I wouldn’t crave your presence all the damn time if I didn’t love the fuck out of you. You are not pathetic. You are my favorite person on this god damn planet and I’d give my left leg if it meant you would stop hurting yourself.”
“…Seth?”
“Yeah?”
“You… can you promise me that nothing I do bothers you? I just feel like sometimes I ask for too much attention or I’m too touchy or something. The fans are gonna be all weird and shippy after this video comes out and if you’d rather they didn’t see that sort of thing it doesn’t have to go in the video. We can even stop all touches altogether if you’re uncomfortable with them thinking-“
“I’d rather get possessed than not be able to show you affection anymore. I don’t care what the fans think. They can mind their own damn business. We’ve always been touchy.”
“So… the fact that they’re gonna think we’re dating doesn’t bother you?” His hand drifted up from your shoulder to your cheek, somehow colder than the air around you. You leaned into the touch gratefully.
“Not the worst idea they could have. Actually I kinda don’t mind the thought of it. Our friends are always teasing us for being a married couple. I don’t see how us dating would be much different than things are now. We’re almost there, we just haven’t managed to kiss yet,” he laughed. You we’re hoping, with every fiber of your being, that his laugh was more nervous than joking. You gently placed your hands on his chest and pulled lightly at the edges of his flannel.
“We haven’t kissed because you’d probably regret it,” you mumbled. The buttons on his shirt suddenly became very interesting to you.
“Why the fuck would I regret it?”
“I’m not exactly worth bragging about. Besides, now that you know that I’m all kinds of fu-“
His lips were warm on yours. The taste of tears lingered in the corners of your mouths. Your grip on his shirt tightened in a desperate attempt to pull him closer. You almost wanted to push him away for his own sake, but the hand that gripped your waist and pulled you flush against him erased that thought entirely. As soft and cautious as it started, the years of both of you wanting exactly this came rushing forth and pushed you both into desperation for one another. The kiss got deeper, fingers pressed harder and wandered further, any care for breathing went out the window. You were the first to pull away, dizzy and overwhelmed.
“There’s no shot in hell I’ll ever regret that,” Seth breathed, smile creeping across his lips as he looked at your breathless state. The butterflies in your stomach hit full force when his thumb brushed across your kiss bruised lips.
“You just… would it be weird to admit I’ve wanted to do that for a while?” You laughed. He laughed with you, taking your hand in his.
“So have I. You’re extra stuck with me now because I definitely want to do that a lot more.” He pressed his lips softly to your palm, right above your wrist. “And your issues aren’t gonna scare me away. We’re in this together whether you like it or not. You can’t get rid of me that easily.”
Tears welled in your eyes once again. The small gesture made your heart flutter, even more so when he kissed your wrist again, holding it longer this time.
“It’s bad, Seth. It’s really bad and I don’t know how to fix it.”
“Then I’ll make it my first official duty as your boyfriend to at least distract you from it, maybe with more kissing.” You laughed at that, pawing the tears from your eyes. He wiped at hem as well, catching the stray ones that you missed. You pulled him closer to you, hugging him as tight as your arms would allow.
“You guys good out here?” Colby’s voice carried over from the front of the house. He and Sam were lugging bags of equipment, finally ready to leave the location. Seth turned towards them with his arms still firmly around you.
“Yea we’re chilin’. We fuckin’ kissed, bro!” He shouted. You laughed and buried your face in his chest, smacking him lightly.
“Fucking finally! Ready to head out then?”
“Totally, we’ll be right there!”
Two fingers pushed your chin up so your eyes met his. He placed a kiss on your forehead, and another quick one on your lips. You wanted it to continue but you knew you had a long drive ahead of you, so you took his hand and walked with him to the car.
“Before we head out, do you want to talk about the self-harm because I’m still worried,” Sam asked. He leaned against the driver’s side door, keys dangling from his hand. Seth spoke before you could figure out what to say.
“I think they’ll be okay. We’re gonna work on it together, right?”
“Yea… yea we are. Together.”

Quincy and the forest giant part 11
Sorry this part took so long. This one has some pretty big lore reveals and stuff, so, yeah! Hope you enjoy it! Criticism is appreciated!
Previous part:
__________________________________________________
It turns out that venison just tastes like beef. It was a bit more metallic and dry, but overall, it just seemed like normal dark meat. I wasn’t too into it, but it was fine for what it was. I couldn’t tell which actual part of the deer I was eating, the meat was smashed and mangled slightly due to how Ella caught, killed, and prepared it, crushing the deer with her hand and picking the meat off its bones while I looked away, and then just putting the meat over a fire on the counter and ripping it into eatable pieces for me with her fingers. I ate my part paired with the bread, while Ella just put her entire half of the deer meat in her mouth, chewing a shallowing. She was done eating pretty fast. Since she was done, she didn’t have anything to do other than just watch me finish. It felt a little weird, having her just silently loom over me as I ate. Eventually, she said something.
“What do you think?” The giant asked,
“Uh…of the food?” I said, “It's fine, I guess. The meat makes the bread taste better,”
“Yeah, sorry if it's not prepared well, it's only so easy to make meals your size with hands twice your height,” Ella said, looking at her hand compared to me. She leaned on the table with her elbow. “Usually venisons meant to be like, a luxury meal in restaurants and whatnot, so if you ever have it again, it’ll probably taste different than what I made,”
“Hm…have you ever had it like that before?” I asked.
“Huh?” Ella said,
“Um, venison made fancy from a restaurant,” I elaborated, “have you ever tried it?”
“Eh, once,” Ella said, looking up in remembrance, “it was before….y’know,” she looked down.
“Uh, I think I’m full,” I said, “um, you can have the rest of my food if you want,”
“Hmm, I’ll save it for later,” Ella said. “You’ll probably have it either tonight or tomorrow if it's still good by then,” she picked up the rest of the meat and stood up with it, walking over to a cabinet and putting it inside. The door seemed to seal all the air out when she closed it.
“Um, are you sure you’ve had enough?” I asked,
“I’m fine, kid.” Ella said, walking back towards the table I was on.
“But, it seemed like you just took like, a bite,” I said,
“That's just what most of the animals I catch for food are like,” Ella said, “I never have big portions. Usually the most I eat is from the bread they send me,”
“Oh…” I said, "thing for a second, “where does that bread come from, anyways? Uh, why is it so big?”
“They grow wheat, and they make it.” Ella answered, looking to her side. “They use the same growth hormones they use on the trees here. I’m pretty sure it's still experimental though, so all they do with the crop is make bread to feed me with, since growth hormones wouldn’t affect me much, and burn the rest.”
“Oh…does the wheat field have a giant guarding it too?” I asked,
“No, just normal sized people with guns.” Ella sighed, sitting down again. “You saw them when Amber showed up to make you stay here, right? Because of me, they have a lot less of them here.”
“Really? huh….I would've thought they’d have more…” I thought out loud,
“It's not because they trust me, they just know I can’t afford to go against them,” Ella said nonchalantly.
“Can’t afford it?” I wondered,
“A couple of normal sized humans with guns aren’t going to control me, Quincy,” she said, looking down at me. “If anything, having more guards here for me would be a waste. They have other ways to do that.”
“Like…like what?” I asked,
“Don’t worry about it,” Ella said. “It wouldn’t affect you or your town if they did it. Probably.”
“...ok,” I said, looking down. “Um, so…wait, um…so…they have something to…uh, threaten you…into listening to them,” I asked,
“It's not the main reason I listen to them, but yes, it's something they have.” Ella said. “Why do you ask?”
“You…you said you..work for them, right? Um…aren’t you like an employee, or something?”
Ella almost laughed at my question. She gave a small smirk and looked down to hide it, before looking at me with the same neutral expression she had before.
“Quincy, look at me,” she said, leaning towards me, her massive eyes just above my face. “Do you think I get paid?”
“....well….um,” I rubbed the back of my neck,
“Do you think I go on breaks on the weekend, and go out to the mall, or whatever, and buy new clothes, or go out to eat, or pay taxes?” she asked, her sarcastic smile showing a bit more.
“Um….well, no…” I said, embarrassed, “but, then..what are you to them? Are you like…a slave…? Did they make you?”
“In a way,” Ella said, looking down, leaning back in her chair, “...technically, legally, I’m a ‘volunteer,’” she said in air quotes,
“A volunteer?” I looked up at her confused,
“I technically agreed to all this years ago, it's on a contract and everything,” Ella said.
“But…if you're a volunteer, can’t you just ... .quit?” I asked, “I mean, you don’t seem to…like the company too much…”
“Quit, and do what exactly?” The giant asked, sitting up straight. “I couldn’t just go on with my life being sixty feet tall. I can’t be around people,” she sighed and looked down, leaning back on the table. “They wouldn’t just let me leave, and you already know why I can’t just run away.” she paused for a moment, her eyes facing down, “I shouldn’t be free and around people, anyways,” she murmured to herself,
“Wh-why?” I asked. She looked at me blankly. “Wh-why shouldn’t you be around people?” she kept staring at me emotionless, not stern, not angry or confused or sad, just blankly. She sat up straight again, having her arms on top of each other on the table and looking down, away from me.
“It wouldn’t be safe for them,” Ella said, almost nonchalantly. She blinked twice, her body twitched slightly, seeming uncomfortable. Her eyes contracted, before returning to their normal size when she looked back at me. “I mean, there are a lot of reasons I couldn’t be around people, but it's mainly just that…safety…”
“Well…you wouldn’t hurt anyone purposely, right?” I asked. Ella kept silent, looking away from me, like she was thinking. “...you don’t seem too clumsy…I don’t think you’d crush anything on accident,”
“I’ve never been in a town before,” Ella said, “its alot easier to be careful when it's just grass and trees everywhere, and not buildings and people,”
“Well….you wouldn’t need to be there all the time…” I suggested, before Ella stopped me.
“Quincy, what are you trying to say?” the giant asked, slightly frustrated.
“S-sorry, you just,” I tried to find the right words, “...how often do you get to talk to someone?”
“Like, a couple times a month, I’d say,” Ella said, “mainly calls and reports to Amber. No one else from the company ever says anything. Then there's the occasional stay human from the town, like you. That only happens once a year, and they usually aren’t too interested in making conversation.”
“...um…” I looked down and rubbed my neck, “thats….I don’t think its…good….to only talk to someone twice a month,” I said, “....especially someone you…don’t seem to like at all,” Ella sighed,
“...it's not, is it?” she asked rhetorically, standing up straight again, still looking down. “Maybe that's why they’re so eager to keep you here,” she blinked, muttering something to herself, “idiots,”
I looked up at her as she looked back at me. I bit my lip and spoke up.
“...Ella, do you…” I swallowed my spit, “don’t you think you deserve to…not be alone here?” I asked.
“...what are you talking about?” she asked.
“Like…don’t you deserve to...y’know,” I looked down, “know people? Be able to leave here? Be…happy? Um…..are you happy?” I asked. Ella’s eyes widened. Not in anger, I wasn’t sure what it was out of. I almost thought for a moment she was offended. She let out an exhale, her eyes still open. She looked at herself.
“I don’t.” she said blankly.
“H-huh?” I asked. She was silent for a moment, before she sighed, and started to stand up from her seat at the table, towering tens of feet over me. Before I could react, she lifted me up from under my arms. My heart dropped upon suddenly being lifted, before she dropped me into the palm of her other hand, holding me gently in it. She looked straight forward as she walked up out of the kitchen and into the living room. “What…what are you doing?” I asked, looking up at her. The giant sighed again, still not looking at me. Eventually, she placed me down on the coffee table in front of her couch, before sitting down on the couch herself, sinking into it with her weight, intentionally slouching and holding her head up with her hands. She looked at me with empty eyes.
“I’m ready to tell you now,” Ella said, swallowing as she looked down at me. “You should know…you should really know what I did,” her voice turned stern like it was before,
“Something you did…?” I said aloud. Ella nodded just slightly.
“I ... .there was something I did that ... .something I’ve done that…that isn’t…” I could tell she was having trouble putting her thoughts into words, “something I’m not proud of,” she finally said. “...something I don’t expect you to…forgive me for,” she looked down at her legs sitting on the couch. I backed away slightly.
“What…? Why would I need to….” I started at her, shocked and confused. She cupped her face in her hands before looking down at me again. She swallowed as she began to explain.
“...me and…Derrick,” she bit her lip, pausing between her words, her eyes flickering, “we signed up as volunteers for these tests…where they put the growth hormones they were using on plants…in trees….and they were trying to see how it affected animals and humans…”
“W-why?” I asked during her pause.
“I don’t know…in case they used it in crops, and the hormones affect the humans that ate the crops.” Ella answered, “they injected it into us both, and kept us and ran test for….at least a week, I think. A couple maybe”
“It…it took over a week it to make you grow?” I asked.
“It was slow..well, it felt slow…technically, it was fast…all things considered” Ella said, going on, “my bones got thicker, and denser, and taller, and my flesh and skin stretched around them, and ripped before it grew too,” she described, looking at her hands, before looking back at me, shallowing spit again.
“Did it…hurt?” I asked. Ella rubbed the back of her neck and looked to her side, as if trying to think of a way to sugarcoat it,
“...it was just…growing pains, I guess,” Ella said, “it was sorta like being sore after working out…just, more extreme,” she looked down as she talked. Her face was scruched up a bit as she avoided eye contact. She held her own arm and rubbed her wrist anxoisly. She went on, “Eventuary, I grew to this height, and the growing stopped…so they started doing physical and…yeah, I was pretty much fine…just bigger,” she crossed her arms, holding herself. It was silent for a moment, as if she wanted that to be the end. Like she didn’t want to go passed that point. She just looked down not saying anything. She closed her eyes. I looked up at her from the table, wondering if I should ask or not. It seemed like a touchy thing for her. I decided to just guess what happened, thinking it might be better than asking.
“Um…was Derrick…” I bit my lip, “...not….fine…? I asked carefully. Ella looked down, her eyes seemed wetter than they were usually. She put her hand over her eyes and rubbed them, before looking at me sternly, but not angry or frustrated, not with me at least.
“No…he didn’t….he…didn’t make it through…he’s gone.” she said, stoic. “And I…lost my temper.”
“What….what do you mean?” I asked, confused, and a bit worried at how emotionless she seemed. I noticed her eyeballs were shaking slightly.
“well…I saw that Derrick was…gone…” she said, her eyes still shaky as she looked down away from me. “and…I got…mad…and did something…” her voice seemed shaky now. She cringed trying to keep her stern expression, her eyes twitching and her mouth biting the bottom of her lip. She stared at her hands, moving her fingers up and down..
“What…what did you do…?” I asked, more worried now for myself and her. She just kept looking down, silently. She took a deep breath. Her giant eyes were wet again, the water almost spilling out. Finally, she closed her eyes and stood up before she opened them again. She towered over the coffee table I was on, I was on the samelevel as her calves. Looking up, I couldn’t see what her face looked like, only that she was breathing heavily from the sound and that her hands were rubbing her eyes again. She looked down at me for a second, the water from her eyes visable as ever, almost dripping down on me. She closed her eyes and took a deep breath, still covering her face with her hands.
“I…I’m sorry….I need a minute….I’m sorry,”
The giant walked away, I heard the door opening, and Ella stepping outside, leaving me on the coffee table by myself.

Yapping about my OC’s Relic and Kinu and their lore :D
Tw// the holocaust, nazis, abuse, hanging/execution, war, this entire thing is about the afterlife
Also I almost definitely fucked up Christianity and like the stories and stuff and I’m sorry about that ):
Kinu (left), Relic (right)
So the story begins in World War 2. Because I said so. Relic is collecting souls of the dammed, mainly Nazi officers, to take them to a very special spot in hell. Now this one guy died, his name is Jacob, he was a Nazi, and Relic was like ‘time to take your soul my guy’. However Kinu comes in and is like ‘sorry haha can’t let you do that I claimed this guy (((: so ((((: you’re out of luck ((((:’
Then Relic is like ‘this guy is a Nazi’
And Kinu is like ‘I mean yea but he’s been sabotaging these bitches and helping the British so like he’s coming with me, peace out!’, grabs Jacob’s soul, and scurries off to Heaven
So then Relic is like ‘Nuh uh not gonna happen’ and goes to the equivalent of a lawyer’s office and is like ‘This bitch took a soul I was collecting’ and showed Kinu’s photo
Then the secretary is like ‘oh yea he does that lmao we can’t do anything about it sorry’
So Relic is like ‘fine I’ll do it myself’ and sneaks into Heaven to get to Kinu and yell at him. Kinda gay if you ask me but yea.
So Relic finds Kinu, and Kinu is like fucking chugging a bottle of vodka, so Relic is like ‘uhhhh don’t Angels like not drink or sum’ and Kinu is like ‘technically yes :3’
So Relic is now utterly confused and Kinu is like ‘sorry my guy I don’t wanna fuck you’ and shuts the door in Relic’s face
Now Relic is like WTF is going on, but he just goes back to his job of collecting bad souls. One day he’s like filling out paperwork n stuff cause that exists in Hell, because it’s Hell, and Kinu drops by
Kinu’s like ‘hey so you’re like a super scary demon right’ and Relic is like ‘yea i guess’ and Kinu then says ‘aight I need your help this like superrrr religious dude is beating his wife and I’ve already tried putting him on a better path and pretending to be God but he won’t listen to me so like can you go in your demon thing and tell him he’s going to Hell if he doesn’t stop beating his wife’
Relic’s then like ‘y’know he’ll go to Hell anyway right’ and Kinu’s like ‘yea so are you gonna help or not’
So then Relic is like ‘that’s a lot of paperwork’ and Kinu’s like ‘that wasn’t a no!’ and grabs his hand and teleports them to Earth
Relic’s like ‘dude no’ and Kinu is like ‘uh huh sure that’s the guy’
So Relic reluctantly deals with the guy and Kinu’s like ‘hey it worked!’
Relic’s is still upset about the paperwork though
Relic: do you have any sense of professionalism
Kinu: I didn’t know that was a word
So Kinu and Relic head back to their respective places but Kinu broke the law going to see Relic without permission
Then Relic is like ‘oh fuck am I gay’ while Kinu is literally getting his ass kicked
Then Relic hears that Kinu is getting ✨executed✨ and is like ‘wait no that’s the guy I wanna date’ so he goes to try and save Kinu
But Relic forgot that demons in heaven is a no no and he got caught ))):
Then they’re both about to be executed and Relic looks over at Kinu
Relic: I think I like you
Kinu: Dude I’m so drunk right now
So they are hanged but nothing happens because this was the first hanging they had ever done for rules being broken and they forgot Demons and Angels had wings
So Kinu and Relic are like ‘really my guys’ and escape cause wings and super smart things
Then Kinu goes up to Jesus and is like ‘bro talk to your dad’ and explained the situation and Relic is standing there like ‘dude that’s Jesus wtf’
So Jesus is not having the bullshit and goes and yells at his dad (God), and Mary forces God to change the rules because mother power and shit or something I don’t know the Bible
So the law is changed Kinu and Relic are happy and all is well
But the demons don’t like the law so they go and start a war on angels
Because
Uh
✨stigma✨
Or something
So people are dying because you can die in Heaven and Hell you just go into the void and Kinu’s fighting and Relic’s like ‘gotta keep my bitch ass boyfriend who’s not my boyfriend from dying’ and goes to protect Kinu
Then he dies protecting Kinu from a spear even though Kinu was literally wearing essentially a stab proof vest cause he’s smart
And Kinu is like ‘wait no I liked him’ and uses up his Angel powers to heal Relic and bring him back to life
Then he dies cause he overused his power and Relic is crying cause his boyfriend who’s not his boyfriend just died

heart of husk (scaramouche x gn!reader)
summary: scaramouche finally gains the heart that he longed for (drabble-fic)
cw: spoilers for inazuma quest, scaramouche's lore, angst with kinda good ending...?
a/n: if you haven't yet, i suggest reading up on the lore for Husk of Opulent Dreams, it explains scaramouche's lore :)
· · ───────────── ·𖥸· ────────────── · ·
Scaramouche doesn’t have a heart. Well, he does, but it’s one that is empty. It is a mere husk, one that is outlined with hate, revenge, and bloodthirst. If anything, he feels emptier than ever before. He’d seen many hearts in the world, those that are gentle, beautiful, and selfless. Though he wishes to have the hearts like the others, he can’t bring himself to rip out the heart that is his. Because when he does, he cannot truly feel anything.
It’s you that he wishes to feel. Scaramouche never feels anything on the battlefield, never when he’s doing his job as a harbinger, and not when he oversees the delusion factory. It’s the gentle yet clumsy fluttering of his heart, like a butterfly fresh out of its cocoon. It’s the heart-wrenching worry that he feels when you’re out fighting the very evil that he had caused. It’s foreign to him, even almost disgusting, yet he wants to keep feeling it. Because it’s the only time he ever truly feels...human.
It’s your bright eyes that gaze upon him gently, as if he were the most precious treasure in all of teyvat. It’s your soft hands that interlace with his. One hand is stained with garden-work, and the other is stained with blood, yet they somehow mold together so perfectly, as if they were made for each other. Scaramouche isn’t sure what he’s feeling in these fleeting moments, except that he knows that he wants to keep feeling them.
It’s late at night when he often wonders if you would desire someone else. Someone with a real heart. Someone who isn’t an empty puppet. Someone with a kind and caring heart, one that will take care of you. Scaramouche knows that it isn’t his fault that his heart is one that is corrupt, but he can’t help but look towards the sea and wonder, ‘is there a beautiful heart out there for me?’
But then he feels your presence behind him, sitting down next to him with your feet dangling off the cliff, looking at him with a soft smile. He scoffs, looking away to continue watching the sun melt into the ocean horizon. When you shift closer to him, Scaramouche doesn’t move. He simply sits still and enjoys your presence, even if he chooses not to show it.
Things don’t change with the gnosis. If anything, he is only reminded of his failed purpose. His empty heart is filled with anger at the thought of his creator, the very creator that had thrown him out. If anyone were to love him, shouldn’t it have been them? In the end, it didn’t matter how much power he had gained, he still did not have a heart.
He remains melancholy, continuing his journey alongside you. His empty goblet is filled with your wine, slowly making him more and more drunk on your love. Your love makes Scaramouche dazed, but he doesn’t mind it.
One day, you suddenly grab his hand and place a warm object in his palm. It’s not dull, but instead shines in the Inazuma sun. It is the only time when Scaramouche is truly caught off guard when he recognizes what it is. It’s a heart. It’s the very object that he had sought out for his entire life.
Despite your encouragements, he can’t bring himself to replace the husk of his heart. What if he loses his feelings for you? What if this heart is the same as his current one, empty yet filled with hate? What if he fails to recognize you?
“Go ahead, Kunikuzushi. It’s what you’ve been looking for, right?”
Scaramouche is silent.
“The provider said that there may be a chance that you may lose all your memories, but... but I know it’ll be worth it. I’m confident I can win you back,” you joke.
He scoffs. “Don’t laugh about that kind of stuff, idiot.”
He is silent yet again.
“If I don’t recognize you, promise me you’ll do everything in your power to make me remember.” His tone is unusually quiet and soft.
“I promise.”
Scaramouche is about to gain everything, yet lose everything simultaneously. He feels your fingertips graze against his eyelids, beckoning him to close his eyes. He can’t help but comply and melt under your touch, the world going black as he feels an unfamiliar warmth in his chest.
To you, it’s only a few moments. To him, it feels like an eternity. Colors swim around him and a thousand different sounds are pouring into his ears, the scent of the ocean and trees filling his lungs. The sun leaves a gentle kiss on his skin, and he feels a pair of unfamiliar hands on his chest.
A stranger stands before him, a beautiful stranger at that. He slowly reaches his hands to touch the stranger, his hands resting on their chest as well. He takes a deep breath and closes his eyes. Though he does not know who they are, he feels a strange sense of comfort, almost as if he’s known them for a lifetime.
He opens his eyes and gazes at the stranger, drowning in the ocean that is their eyes. He doesn’t mind it though, and doesn’t fight the strong waves of feelings that crash upon him. If it means to stay with this stranger, he’s willing to sink for an eternity and have his breath taken away.
“Who are you, stranger?”
“Hello, Kunikuzushi,” the stranger greets him. Their voice is more gentle than the most delicate bird, their smile shining brighter than the brightest sun. “My name is y/n. It is my pleasure to meet you.”

Part Four. "You hosted me?? In MINECRAFT??"
warnings: swearing but that’s it (i think)! just karl being a goof and dream being a little shit but whats new word count: 3k (not ncluding pictures)
behind the screen (irl dream x reader) series masterlist ultimate masterlist
**********
.
Y/n sat to Karl's left, out of the camera's view as he scrolled through Twitter on his PC.
"Um... oh, how did you guys meet?" Karl read before looking offscreen at Y/n. "Uh... school?"
"What? I was going to make up a funny story but I'm appalled by the seriousness in your voice! Is that really how you think we met?"
The embarrassment on his face answered her question. "Karl! I'm two years younger than you, how would we meet have met at school?"
"I don't know!" he said back defensively, raising his shoulders. "Clubs?"
"Like I was in any of the nerd clubs you were in."
"Well, then, how did we meet?"
Y/n sighed with a laugh. "Our moms–"
"Oh, wait wait, I remember!" he cut her off, excitedly looking towards Y/n. "Our moms are friends and they forced us to hang out." He smiled proudly and looked back to his screen as he continued scrolling for good questions. "If I'm honest, I only still hang out with you because my mom makes me."
Y/n smacked Karl's arm and he laughed but pretended to be hurt. "WHAT THE HONK, BUGSY?!"
"I can't stand you. I barely hit you, nimrod."
Karl giggled and read another one. "How tall is Bugsy? Two feet, four inches."
"No, I'm 7'6," Y/n lied easily and Karl laughed.
"How tall are you actually?"
'I think 5'10 or something? Maybe 5'11. I'm not 6' but I'm taller than you for sure, I know that much–"
"Okay, you are not taller than me. Just to be clear. Chat, Bugsy is not taller than me."
"Yes, I am. Wanna test it?"
"No," he replied quietly in defeat.
"Because you know I'm right," Y/n laughed as her eyes flicked over to read chat. They were spamming their surprise, expecting her to be short. "Yeah, no, chat, I'm tall. I'm taller than Karl."
"Only because your shoes make you tall! Doc Martens are tall and that's pretty much all you wear!"
"You're shorter than me when I'm barefoot!"
"That's literally false. Like completely."
"Just accept it, shorty."
"I'll accept that you're taller than George and Sapnap, but not me. I'm barely taller than you but I'm still taller."
"Whateverrrr. I'll move on to protect your dignity."
Karl ignored her and laughed, pointing to a message from Dream in Karl's chat.
"Dream said I have short girl energy," Y/n read.
"You kinda do."
"What does that even mean?"
"You're shy around new people and you act all sweet."
"So tall girls can't be shy and sweet? Or shy and sweet girls can't be tall?"
"Stop twisting my words," Karl groaned.
"Also, wait, what do you mean I act sweet? Am I not?"
"No, you are. But I mean you also aren't when you don't want to be. Upset Bugsy is scary Bugsy."
Y/n frowned, not recalling a time she's ever been angry or upset at Karl but she let him move on. He pointed to another tweet as he looked at Y/n, giving her an 'I told you so' look. She read it before shaking her head at him.
"Don't read that one."
"Pleeease, can I answer?"
"No!" she whisper-shouted. I don't want to be shipped with him for asking or you for answering, she mouthed so Karl's chat couldn't put together clues.
"Are you assuming I'll answer positively?" he teased, earning him a hard smack on the arm.
Y/n couldn't help but notice every time she put her hands in the frame, which was usually to hit Karl, half of the chat turned into simps requesting a hand pic because they could see her bracelets and nail polish and now that they knew she was tall they wanted to see how big her hands were. They really wanted every crumb of content they could have regarding her looks. She caught one that said something pretty kinky about her hands which she tried to scrub from her mind immediately.
"Fine," Karl sighed at her request to not read Dream's tweet out loud, instead reading another. "Bestie sleepover? Yes! Bestie sleepover! Bugsy and I are gonna cuddle all night--"
"No, we aren't. I'm sleeping on a completely different bed. Or couch. Nowhere near you."
"WHY DO YOU HATE ME?"
"Karl! Stop trying to get me to cuddle with you!" Y/n laughed as she pushed away his arms, which were trying to give her a hug. "You're a freaking heater and I don't like touching people!"
"That's my worst nightmare in a friend, how did I end up with you?"
"No idea. Deal with it. It's still a bestie sleepover even if we don't cuddle."
Karl giggled and looked back at his stream. "Oh, by the way, in case anyone ever wanted to know or was Dreaming about it, Bugsy is very cute. Just thought I'd mention it in case anyone was wondering or if anyone tweeted specifically asking..."
Y/n smacked his arm again as she yelled, "Karl!"
He grabbed his arm in dramatic pain as if it had been cut off. "Ow! Ow! Bugsy hit me!" he cried as he fell to the floor. "Oh my gosh. Someone call a doctor!"
"I cannot stand you," Y/n informed as she stared down at him. She glanced at chat, who were all joking about how bad his condition was, saying things like they might have to amputate his arm. "Chat, don't encourage him. Oh, Karl I know what we can do!"
"As long as I don't need two arms for it..." his voice still laced with fake pain.
"Karl Jacobs."
"What is it?"
"Give me a tour of Dream's SMP. Dream whitelisted me yesterday."
"Oh, yeah! What could have possibly made you think of him?" he teased as he got back in his chair.
Y/n glared at him and he cowered slightly.
"Minecraft, yes. There's a PC in the other room you can play on. Do you need help setting it up?"
"No, I've streamed once or twice," Y/n teased as she stood up.
"I'm just trying to be a good host! Gosh!"
"Wait, I have to cross over to leave the room."
"Just do it? What's the issue? Literally no problem, just walk?" he joked before zooming in his camera on his face so it took up the whole screen. Y/n laughed as she went across the room, chat now forced to look at disturbingly close footage of Karl staring directly into the camera with his eyes crossed.
Y/n called Karl on Discord after logging in. "Hi, Karl and Karl's stream."
"Are you on yet?"
"I'm logging in to my Minecraft account right now."
"Okay, join a vc on the smp discord so others can talk to us if we run into anyone. I'll be over in a minute, just give me a bit to read some donations." They both muted, leaving Y/n to herself.
She typed in the IP address to the server and joined a random voice channel that no one was in. She spawned and looked around, confused by the cobblestone wall around her. Her phone lit up so she occupied herself with the texts from Naomi.
A green figure caught her eye on the screen and she looked up. In the distance was Dream's infamous green Minecraft skin punching the air as he faced her. He ran towards her and stopped in front of her. She set her phone down and slid it away, crouching as his character did the same.
Dream whispers to you: are you streaming you whisper to Dream: no but Karl is and he's about to get on to tour me Dream whispers to you: hmmm okay here
He uncrouched and dropped a few diamond blocks before punching the air again and running away.
Dream whispers to you: shh don’t tell anyone you whisper to Dream: omg :D ty <3 you whisper to Dream: first twitch donos now mc donos you whisper to Dream: rich man over here giving out money and diamonds to everyone like it's candy Dream whispers to you: no, only to you Dream whispers to you: a little gift before our date ;) Dream whispers to you: oh and this
He came back and paused in front of Y/n before dropping a red poppy and sprinting away again. She acted cool despite the huge smile on her face.
you whisper to Dream: charming you whisper to Dream: you give me a flower and dart away before I can properly thank you Dream whispers to you: oh yeah? how would you have thanked me?
Y/n smiled, her cheeks flaming up as a dirty thought entered her mind. Stop, he's not flirting, she told herself. It’s literally a block game and he’s not flirting.
you whisper to Dream: guess we'll never know ;) KarlJacobs joined the game
"I'm back," Karl's voice filled her headset as he joined her voice channel, snapping her out of her thoughts. "Where are you?"
Y/n looked away from the chat in Minecraft and turned around in the game. "Still at spawn. Some forest and cobblestone walls."
"Go left and I'll meet you halfway."
As she ran, the Minecraft chat reappeared with new messages for everyone to see.
<Dream> hey Karl <KarlJacobs> hello Dream <Dream> thanks for answering my question on your stream <KarlJacobs> just doing my civil duty as a bugsy dream shipper <KarlJacobs> official petition for the name to be dreamsy <Dream> signed
"Oh my gosh," Y/n muttered, making Karl laugh.
"What?" Karl asked innocently, but his laugh was maniacal. "Oh, I found you. This way! I built everything on the server, by the way. So if anything is impressive, just remember that I did it."
"Karl, that's the biggest lie you've ever told me. I watch the lore videos."
"Well, I did build it all so I don't know what to tell you. Let's go this way first."
Y/n followed as he showed her stuff, including background and unknown facts about things that have happened off stream. After the tour, they messed around the chessboard. At some point, she found a blue cornflower and turned to Karl.
"Do you have an anvil?"
"I don't exactly have one on me at the moment but I think there's one over here. What for?"
She killed some chickens with her fist to gain XP so she could carry out the task in mind. "I need to name this flower I found." She followed him a few blocks away and clicked the anvil and named the flower 'love, bug'. "Okay, thanks."
"Why did you name it?"
"It's a gift for someone."
"Me?" he asked as his character jumped up and down.
"No. My presence is your gift."
"Ouch. You know, honestly, I'm really hurt by that. Like, why would you say that to me? It's just sorta rude."
"Fine, I'll go get you a flower."
"Well, I don't want it if it isn't sincere. Who's that one for?"
"...no one."
"Tell me or I'll keep complaining about not getting a gift."
"I can deal with that."
"Okay, then tell me or I'll make you sleep in my bed and I'll smother you to death with my affection."
"Ah, okay, fine. It's for Dream."
"Wow you really hate me that much!" Karl laughed.
"No, I'm just not touchy like you!" she defended. She always worried she offended Karl since he was so physically affectionate towards his friends but she just wasn't a physical person.
"Oh, speaking of Dream..." he turned and Y/n followed his characters line of sight, having to zoom in to see the green figure perched at the top of a tree.
"He's very menacing."
"He does that."
<Bugsy> come here pls dream <Bugsy> i have a gift :]
Dream ran towards Y/n and stopped in front of her expectedly. She looked at Karl then back at Dream and dropped the gift, backing up after and crouching.
His character picked it up and held it, pausing to read the name. After a moment, he slowly looked up at Y/n's character before jumping and spinning in circles. Y/n hid her smile in her sleeve even though no one could see her.
<Dream> wait lemme see the one I gave you <Bugsy> what D: <Dream> I wanna name it
"What is going on?" Karl giggled.
"Gift exchange. Mind your own business."
"Woah!" Karl gasped dramatically. "Uncalled for."
Dream came back and dropped the renamed flower for her. Y/n picked it up and hovered over it to read the name.
'host, dream'
She gasped and started punching his character. He backed up and ran away but joined the call seconds later.
"Wait! Stop hitting me!" Dream yelled into her headset.
Y/n laughed, trying to contain her smile as she continued to hit the green character. "Dream! Are you kidding? I tried being all cute and you hosted me?? In MINECRAFT??"
"It was a joke! You said something like that to Wilbur on Twitter a while ago, I was just using your humor!" Dream's giggles filled Y/n's headphones and she smiled but quickly dropped it so her voice could sound serious.
"Give it back."
Dream looked at her before letting out a small, "What?"
"Give me back the flower so I can go burn it with the other one."
"Bugsy!"
"What is going on?" Karl asked through a cackle. "Dream, did you hurt Bugsy??"
"Yes, Karl! He hurt my feelings! He gave me a flower and gave it back to name it something mean!"
Dream just laughed so Y/n punched him again.
"Dream! You can't hurt Bugsy!" Karl defended, also punching Dream.
All Y/n could hear was the sound of Dream wheezing, his character running as the two chased him. "Stop! You guys are so– STOP HITTING ME!"
"Fine," Y/n finally said, crouching and facing the ground as she walked into a corner to look like she was pouting. "I'm just not going to go on any Minecraft dates anymore."
"Wait, no," Dream protested in a soft voice, his character stopping to look at her's. "Take that back."
"Heart been broke so many times..."
"You're so stupid."
Karl gasped happily. "You guys have a Minecraft date? Can I help plan it?!"
"We did. In exchange for letting you give me the tour. But I've changed my mind since I've been so betrayed."
"Oh my gosh, you're so..." Dream trailed off but his wide smile could be heard through his voice.
"So what? Finish that sentence, Dream," Y/n dared teasingly.
"So... ANNOYING!"
"DREAM! SAY YOU'RE SORRY!" Karl yelled.
"Okay! I'm sorry! Bug, I'm so sorry. Really. Please let me... let me rename your flower something cute. It'll make you so happy that you'll fall in love with me all over again and–and we can go on our date. Please don't burn our flowers."
"And what if I don't give them to you?"
"I'll just kill you and pick them off your corpse."
"Woooooowwww. Okay, it's like that?"
"Yes, it is like that," he said through a smile. It was so apparent in his voice that he was grinning like a kid on Christmas morning.
<Ranboo> how is the tour going Bugsy was shot by Dream using DEFINITELY NOT PENIS <Ranboo> ah going well I see
Bugsy screamed in her mic as the death screen appeared. "DREAM!"
"You took too long!" He wheezed as Bugsy respawned.
"I don't know where I am!"
"Hold on, I'll avenge you!" Karl declared before he died too.
"You thought you could kill me with your fists? Karl, you're naked and I'm wearing full Netherite."
"You weren't when I started punching you! You pulled that out of thin air!"
<Ranboo> canon
Y/n smiled at Ranboo's comment. She had never talked to him but she knew he and Tubbo were close friends and he seemed really funny. He had already proved he had a dry sense of humor in the 30 minutes she was on the SMP and she loved that. Y/n made a mental note to befriend him before returning to being drama queen to Dream.
"So, Dream, now that you've made me an enemy–"
"WhAT? We are not enemies, Bug. I'm actually naming a flower something really cute as we speak. Enemies don't do that."
"Maybe I'm not your enemy but you sure are mine."
"Oh come on now," he mumbled lowly, running chills down her spine. What the hell was that?? "What do I have to do to make it up to you?"
"You-you murdered me in cold blood. Nothing will make it up."
"So I could get the flower! It was out of love! So I could give you a better present! Does that count for nothing?"
"Hm," she hummed. "We'll see what new name you come up with and then I'll decide."
Karl and Y/n got back to the chessboard and waited for Dream to return with his new flower.
Breaking character and turning towards her best friend, Y/n laughed at Karl. "Sorry for distracting from our BFF shenanigans time."
"This is way more entertaining," Karl assured. "Me and my chat got front row seats to the Dreamsy love saga."
"Shut up," she mumbled as she punched him in-game.
"OW! STOP PUNCHING ME SO MUCH!"
"Okay, okay, I'm back!!" Dream announced and they saw his figure sprinting and jumping towards them. He dropped the flower for Y/n and stepped back, crouching and standing repeatedly.
Y/n picked up the flower and hovered over it to read the name.
"Is it worthy of your forgiveness, Bugsy? Does it pass the vibe check?" Karl asked with a giggle.
Y/n bit her lip as she smiled at her screen.
to the prettiest girl in the world. love, dream <3
It was a joke, obviously. He was just continuing the joke of flirting with her like he does on Twitter just like Sapnap and Karl and George and Quackity do. They all joke about flirting with her and this was another joke.
But it still gave her tummy butterflies.
"Bug?" Dream called softly.
But why would he joke like that when neither of them were streaming? Karl's chat wouldn't see it so there was no one to point in feeding into the joke, unless he meant for Y/n to show Karl? She was overthinking. She needed to play it cool.
She also needed an enderchest so no one could find it and no one could take it away from her and destroy it but they didn’t need to know she liked it that much.
"Mmm.... it'll do."

P.S Niki and Sunoo's roles become bigger in later chapters :) sorry I took 2 weeks to update. School + new enhypen teasers made me alter the story now jesus their lore is confusingly interesting. Didn't proofread half of this chapter LOL. Happy readings <3
"Well now that everyone is here, I'd like to announce we have a new student who just transferred here." Your eyes were immediately drawn to the student's platinum blonde hair. Despite his sharp and charismatic face, his eyes were delicate and innocent. He had an exceptionally small face and a sunkissed skin tone. The new student snapped himself around so that the entire classroom got a good look at him, "Hello, my name is Park Jongseong or Jay, call me whatever you feel." He bowed slightly, his voice having a cool ring that played over in your head.
"Everybody please welcome Jay to our astronomy class. Lend him any of our previous notes because midterms are coming up and I'd appreciate as a teacher if you guys helped him catch up before our long weekend coming up in two weeks." Your teacher gave a warm smile, nodding in such a way that made the rest of the class nod with her.
Without a student saying a word, everyone's eyes followed him as he took a seat at a desk a couple of rows in front of you.
You stared at him tirelessly, barely listening as your teacher rambled off-topic. You noticed Jay often stared out at the crying sky that occasionally flickered with lightning. His eyes focused intently on the woods. You were sure you weren't the only one who was interested in the new boy as you frequently caught other students glancing over at him every few seconds. Jay carried an attractive and dark aura that clearly contrasted from the crowd. Both girls and boys stared at him not because of his pretty face but because he was far different from the new students who had joined your school mid-semester.
The class flew by for you because of Jay until a simple but intriguing question was purposed by the teacher, "Bonus marks today if anyone can guess when the next full moon is." she lifted her eyes off the projector for a few moments, waiting for answers to come sailing.
"Saturday?" Somebody from the front called out, followed by numerous answers that ranged between the second week to the fourth week of the month.
"Come on now. Don't blurt out, give others chances to guess. Jay why don't you guess?" Your teacher questioned welcomingly, expecting no answer from him.
He leaned back in his chair, scraping the non-writing end of his ballpen on his thumb, "November 30." A gentle sound of thunder playing perfectly when he said the answer; like some sort of scene out of a comic.
"Ding ding ding!" Your teacher switched to a PowerPoint slide with the new unit name bolded, "I know this isn't part of the curriculum but I got it approved by the head of the school." She took a breath, giving students time to comprehend what was presented in front of them. "Our next unit will be looking deeper at the moon. More specifically, we'll be looking at both the sciency and non-sciency sides of this topic. And before anyone asks; no, you don't need to believe in astrology or superstitions to understand the non-sciency material. It's just very fascinating because it connects to many cultures." Your attention was now far away from Jay. You were enthusiastic about a topic for once in the class.
"And looks like we're running out of time." Your teacher's wrist clock blocking her eyes. "That's it for today's class everyone! I'll have your projects marked for next class, I promise! Have a good day." She said while shutting off the projector.
You slid all your handouts into your binder, not bothering to align the three-hole punches of the papers to their designated rings.
"Y/N before you go, do you mind helping out Jay? Today or tomorrow?" Your teacher stopped you on your way out.
"Like lend him my notes?"
"Yep! I just forgot to ask but he just left so you might be able to catch up to him. Maybe ask if he's got the notes yet."
You waved your goodbyes and chased the new boy down, his uniquely blonde hair standing out from the hallway of heads. You picked up the pace to catch up with his swift steps when you caught him chatting with Sunghoon and Jaeyun. Your feet froze straight down in their place.
Were they new friends? Or perhaps they were old friends?
You weren't going to bother talking to Jay as you already knew what kind of funny business would come up if you did. You could only watch them swing and lean their arms against each other in a close and friendly way. The picture was becoming more and more clear to you as to what kind of association Jay had with Sunghoon and Jaeyun perhaps even Heeseung, Sunoo or Jungwon.
...
You throw yourself violently over your thick mattress after finishing a long study and homework session at your dorm. The session wasn't productive but the time you spent surrounded by your schoolwork made it feel that way. Your dorm was awfully quiet that afternoon as your dormmates had music rehearsals for their extracurriculars. Nana had told you to come by the music rooms around a quarter past five when their practice was over to go down to the dining hall and have dinner but you couldn't think of a way to kill your remaining hour alone.
Phones were forbidden in your school and you often felt uncontrollably alone and bored with your thoughts during your free time. You could only lay tangled in your bed with your half progressed work in the corner of your eye. You shift on one side to watch your wide-open binder until you got some burst of motivation to finish studying until an idea hits you.
After eyeing your handouts from your astronomy class, you decide to hit the library and do some reading to get a little advanced in the class. Sure you could study for your other class but the sudden idea was far more worth your time in your mind. You quickly twirl out of your room, clearing your desk while you're at it. Excitedly, you hop into your shoes and head straight for the library. You were put in a good mood as you skipped along the long journey to the bookhouse.
The library was moderately packed as you don't bother to recognize any faces there. You get deja vu as you trail the same path you did when Sunghoon and Kyungeun were around. Sliding between the thin space between the bookshelves once again, you search for the section related to the moon, feeling dizzy at the sight of books your school owned. You could've made your life easier by asking the librarian but you were confident you could find it on your own. You move up and down the aisles as you catch a glimpse of theoretical and astrology related books that sit next to a couple of history books.
Backing up, you awkwardly bend your knees forward to get a better look at the small selection of books under the genre. You peel a random book spine out from its tight spot as if it had never been taken out before. You dust off the book a bit, reading the wordless cover and open it to check if it was really related to any sort of astronomy as you find a much stranger subject being discussed.
"Finding everything alright?" The librarian comes by, pushing a kart from the other end of the shelves. "I-I'm looking for books related to the moon." You say, standing up and forgetting you still had the old book in hand.
"The scientific information is just on the other side of this shelf but the section you were just looking at has some interesting stuff that might be related." The librarian stuffed herself in between the shelves to get toward you.
"Yeah, I noticed... This book I just picked up was talking about vampires." You laugh a little as you hold it up.
"Ah, that book..." She paused, snatching the book out of your hands to examine it, "I read this before... It relates to astrology. I think there are some parts of the book that go into detail about the moon, you should give it a read."
"Is this book just theoretical research about vampires though?" You were unconvinced with the idea.
"Yeah, real or not, our school grounds and the neighbouring town are talked about in the book. Apparently many years ago this place used to be a hotspot for vampires." She looked you dead in the eyes.
"Do you think the information is true?" You questioned with deep curiosity upon her answer.
"Some information in there is haunting. I think vampires did exist." She said with some sort of distress beginning to seep into her face.
Shivers ran down your spine, if she was just trying to sell you the book, it was working damn well on you.
"I'll leave you be, no need to sign out the book, nobody ever takes it out so I trust you'll return it." And with that said, she left you cold with mystery as the book between your fingers stared at you with big round eyes.
You shake back to reality, checking your wrist just to find out your time has vanished. You shift your priorities to getting to the music department, throwing the book into your bag without much thought.
...
The sun was already going down around the afternoon as the days got shorter with autumn blossoming. You're standing between rooms full of beautiful voices and instruments, peering through every window attached to a door in an attempt to find your roommates. The issue was the widows didn't give much of a view as to who was in the rooms. But your ears were drawn to a gentle piano that played a bittersweet melody beneath the louder sounds of people singing in a harmonious glee. As you move in the forward direction of the hallway, the piano gets clearer to your ears. It became clear that the sound was coming out of a room with its door wide open. Your back attached it to the wall in fear of being seen as slide yourself until you meet the spine of the door where you could see into the shadowy room.
Your eyes lit up when they see a familiar platinum blondie behind the keys. The melody was enchanting and was played in such a personal way as the sounds escaped into the noisy environment where it hoped to go unheard. Jay had reached the final notes of his song as he turned his head in your direction. It was as if he knew of your present from the moment you started watching him from the doorway.

Permission To Go Out
Characters: Reader, Dean, Sam, Jack (all platonic)
Inspiration: Season 14, Episode 16 – Don’t Go Into The Woods
Warnings: Some language, slight injury.
Summary: While you and the brothers are out on a case, Jack graces your phone with a call to ask if he can hang out with the kids in town (like the sweet boy he is)
The Impala came to a stop and when you looked out the window, you saw several rows of cars before the motel rooms were visible.
“Okay, now you’re being petty.”
You had called him out for doing a crappy parking job when they were at the gas station and then again when they did a small pit stop for food. The second time was just to get under his skin and you got a few insults in that managed to get a chuckle from Sam.
As an act of revenge, Dean purposely parked the car in the spot furthest from their motel room so you’d have to walk.
“Sweetheart, I don’t do petty.” Dean said and got out of the drivers seat.
You followed his lead and stepped out of the car. You closed the backdoor with your hip and suddenly found a duffle bag being shoved into your arms - the weapons inside of it clanging against one another.
“And because of your antics on the road, you’re going to be the one doing the double trip to unload our stuff.” Dean told you with a smug grin. He walked off in the direction of their room while you made your way over to Sam who had just pulled his bag over his shoulder.
“What a baby, am I right?” You scoffed.
Sam shifted the weight of his bag and chuckled. “Is the long walk and double trip not enough punishment for you?” He wondered. You smiled back and started to follow after the blonde with the tall hunter.
“Okay but I wasn’t wrong when I said that Jack could have pulled up at the gas station better than him.”
“I think Dean would rather sell the car to a scrapyard before admitting that he did a poor job.”
You and Sam laughed at the hunters expense and caught up with him at the front door - a door that Dean was just staring at.
You cleared your throat loudly. “Hey, Einstein? You put the key in the hole and then you turn the handle.”
Dean rolled his eyes at the tune and ignored the sarcastic comment entirely, instead he turned to you and Sam with a smile.
“Get ready to feast your eyes on the very same room that Bon Jovi stayed in during his first ever American tour.”
You had a witty remark at the tip of your tongue but was forced to catch it when you felt your phone buzz in her pocket.
Dean opened up the room as you fished out the device, smiling at the caller ID. You stepped inside after Sam and pressed the phone to your ear.
“Hey.” You answered, casually tossing the duffle bag on the closest bed.
“Hello, (Y/n). I miss you.”
“I miss you too.” You replied and earned yourself a questioning look from Dean.
Jack, you mouthed back.
You grabbed the Impala keys from the table and shook them at the boys so they’d know that you were going to retrieve the rest of their things. Dean was staring at the picture frames on the wall with awe but Sam noticed your action and nodded.
Leaving them inside, you walked back the way you came.
“We’ve only been out for a couple of hours. Is everything okay?” You asked the young boy. You weren’t the biggest fan of leaving him in the bunker alone and, if this case hadn’t been so bizarre, you would have stayed with the nephilim.
The only thing that kept you from constant worry was that Jack had voluntarily agreed to keeping you in the loop – texting when he left the bunker and when he got to town - he even sent photos of flowers and the ice-cream selection at the parlour.
“I’m fine.” Jack answered, glancing over his shoulder at the distracted teenagers on their phones. “Actually, I met a group of kids and they invited me to hang out with them.”
You couldn’t help but frown a little. Jack was still at risk outside of the bunker.
“Do I know any of these kids?” You asked.
“I think so - they said that you, Dean and Sam saved them from the ghost of a clown a few weeks ago.”
Ah, so it was the teenaged trio who stole Dean’s car that Jack had bumped into.
You had reached the car and opened the backseat door, leaning in and pulling out the second duffle. “And where will you be hanging out?”
Jack realised that if he told you about the exact location that you’d be worried so he took it on himself to alter the information.
“It’s not too far from Main Street.” He lied, feeling his stomach twist a little, and noticed that you went quiet over the phone as you thought about it.
“They’ve all asked their parents for permission.” He added quickly. “I figured that I’d ask mine.”
You locked the car up, leaning against the black paint as you considered the options.
If you agreed, then Jack would be able to interact with humans naturally but he’d risk his safety. If you kept him from going then Jack would be safe but it could easily spark a rebellious flame in him or have him believe that he was to be locked away in the bunker.
“And you didn’t call Dean or Sam about this because...?”
“Because I know that they would say no.” Jack told you instantly.
He wasn’t wrong. If he had called either one - or even Castiel - they would vote against him going out.
You sighed and started walking back to the motel. “Okay, you can go but-“
“Yes!”
“-you have to promise me that you’ll be back home by sundown.” You could just imagine the grin on the boys face.
“I will, I promise!” Jack told you. The joy in his voice was hard to hide. “Thank you, (Y/n).”
You smiled back, “You’re welcome. Now go have fun and be safe.”
You hung up the call just as you entered the motel again and found that your co-hunters had started to set themselves up. Dean polished the weapons on the bed with a few papers laid out in front of him and Sam had taken the entirety of the living room where lore books, police reports and his laptop were scattered.
“You’re back.” Sam noted as he looked up. “I could use your help on these.”
You dropped the duffle on the floor and rolled back your shoulder a few times to relieve the dull ache. Then you moved across the floor and joined Sam, catching Dean’s attention.
“What did the kid want?” He wondered.
“Oh, he was just asking if he could buy some extra boxes of Crunch Cookie Crunch.” You answered.
Lying to the brothers made your stomach turn but, in an effort to protect Jack while giving him a normal life, it had to be done.

Castiel and I have always had a great relationship. Something between Castiel and I clicked, like a lock. Being around Castiel I would say has made me more appreciative of the things around me.
Like for example; Castiel would list off all the stars in the night sky, while we were on a hunt. It was also so refreshing being around him, he had this passion in him like I’d never seen before.
That passion had such a great effect on me. especially when I was around him, it was as if a huge magnet was forcing me to be beside Castiel.
I guess I wouldn’t say that I didn’t love being around Castiel, but he had a way of making me feel nervous and timid. Not that he was a bad person... not that he was a bad angel.
What I’m trying to say is that he had a great effect over my emotions and I knew no matter what that he’d end up finding out eventually.
What may he find out?
Castiel may find out that I see him more as special person in my life, then just a friend. I hate putting titles to things but I think in a situation like these things need titles.
I promise that this will make more sense in just a few moments.
I heard a knock on my door. “Can I come in?” I heard Castiel said through the wood door. A sudden wave of shock rolled through my bones, “Um, sure Castiel.” I said pulling the comforter over my very much covered frame.
“I was wondering if you and I could go look at the stars tonight, Y/n?” Castiel asked, his hand rubbing the back of his neck. Something that he had picked up from Dean.
I set down my book that I had only started reading earlier this morning. “I don’t see why not.” I said giving him a small smile. His face lite up, those bright baby blue eyes glistening with excitement. A face the reminded me of much I really did enjoy being around Castiel.
The day went on as usual. Dean washing his precious impala “Baby”, Watching whatever Dean watched for fun of course, or eating lots and lots of food. Sam trying to find another hunt, running, or reading through the lore.
I on the other hand really hadn’t left my room since Castiel came in. I had sat there for what seemed like at least twenty minutes. I just stared at the door, thinking of every possible way that this could go wrong.
‘You could say the wrong thing, at the wrong moment. Wear the wrong thing, think you’re getting some sort of sign when in all reality you aren’t’ I was brought out of my thought when I heard another knock at my door. “Come on in.” I spoke
Hoping more than praying that it wasn’t Castiel again. To my surprise it was actually Sam. “So, I might have heard that Castiel and you are going star gazing tonight?” Sam said a little to knowingly.
“Yes, I might be going out with Castiel tonight.” I returned getting out of my bed. I waved Sam in to my room. He shut the door behind him and sat down in my desk chair.
“Well let’s just say that this conversation never happened” Sam said raising his eyebrows. “O-okay.” I said with a confused tone. “So Castiel and I are good buddies you know?’ “Hmm” I said. ‘He might have told me that he like it when you wear... when you wear that blue flower shirt of yours.”
I guess I was giving him a very confused look. The next words to fall from my mouth were “Huh?” “Actually, ignore what I just said, he just wants you to be happy and according to Castiel. You are the happiest when you’re wearing that flower shirt.” Sam said softly clapping his hands.
“Okay I can be happy” I said, smiling a little wider than before. “Well, I’ll let you get to the rest of the day, Y/n.” Sam said sitting up from the desk chair, kissing my temple hastily before walking out of my bedroom.
Once I was alone, I turned into a giddy teen. Jumping up and down squealing at the top of my lungs. I eventually ended up falling on my back onto my bed. I couldn’t express to you what I was feeling even if my life depended on it.
A few hours had passed, and I had taken a very long shower, but not for naughty reasons. I had taken my time with my makeup. Which I don’t say so myself I was getting so much better at doing, picked out my clothes things that made me feel happy and a bad-ass bitch.
Just as I was putting my sweater on I again for the third time this glorious day I heard a knock at my room door. “You can come in.” I said my back was facing the door, but I could smell was sugar cookies, and a hint of lavender. turning around after i had slipped my arms through.
There I saw Castiel standing in my doorway, not wearing his normal trench coat and suit. Which was odd at first, but what he did have on was much better. He was wearing a light blue button up shirt that was under a dark blue sweater.
It was like looking at someone completely different. I’m saying that I wouldn’t mind Castiel wearing more ‘normal’ like clothing more often. “May we?” Castiel said reaching his hand out to take mine.
“Yes, we may.” I said placing my hand in his, shit man his hands are so soft. As we walked out of my room Castiel shut my bed room door. As we walked past the kitchen door, and past the library, Sam gave me a short smile.
Out of the corner of my eye I saw Dean throw a pair of keys towards Castiel which caught them. ‘Be safe you two.” I heard Dean say. That was odd, not teasing, no asking where we were going, no... no nothing.
“I grabbed a blanket for our gazing at the stars tonight.” Castiel said still holding my hand. At this point I was wondering if he’d forgotten that he was holding my hand.
Castiel walked me over to the impala. I gave him a questionable look, wondering why and how Dean would ever let Castiel drive ‘Baby’. He walked me over to passenger side, opening my door, and then shutting it for me. This entire thing was giving me butterflies in my stomach.
No man that I had ever been around did that for me. I mean yes, the two Winchester boys were great, but again there was something about Castiel. The way he was just such a gentleman.
I was pulled from my thoughts when I heard the driver's side door slam against its frame. The start f the engine and we were out of the garage. Gone and Castiel driving to where ever he wanted.
Castiel quickly realized that we were listening to Dean's music, so a few changes to the radio and we were listening to some classical music. I won’t say that it set a mood for the rest of the night, but I’d like to think that was what he was trying to do.
It was actually a short drive only about ten minutes from the hidden bunker. Castiel parked the impala on a nice clearing of grass. He looked over at me giving a cute smile his dimples showing. Which in turn made me smile. He shut the impala off, and got out. Not before telling me “Wait, Y/n.” So that’s what I did.
I watched Castiel through the rear-view mirror. Open the trunk, pull out two blankets. One look much larger than the other, but that doesn’t matter. I watched as Castiel rounded the Impala and just as he was in front of the car, he throws the bigger blanket out.
Then placed down the other blanket. When Castiel was finished he walked over to my side opening my door. Giving me a hand with getting out. Castiel walked over to the area he had set up. I sat down and then Castiel did.
I had never been this close to Castiel before he radiated so much heat. Castiel started rapidly firing off all the stars in the sky. “This star right here’ he said pointing in some random direction. ‘This star was the one that was out the night you were born Y/n.” He finished; a smile could be seen on his face.
“Really?” I asked surprised that he knew that. “Yes, actually it was the biggest in the sky that night. Imagine Y/n the night that you were born this star right here was a lighthouse. That huge beam of light. It honestly for a few moments blinded us angels in heaven.”
Castiel looked over at me. I could feel my face getting hotter and hotter by the second. “Are you okay, Y/n? You seem to be very warm.” Castiel said. His hand falling to my forehead like he was checking my temperature. “I’m fine Castiel, I just... I didn’t think that you knew all this stuff about me.” I said a little timid, messing with the hem of the sweater.
“I won’t say that I know everything about you Y/n, but I’d like to learn more about you.” Castiel hand grazing over my cheek. “Really Castiel?” I asked slowing building the courage to look him in his baby blue eyes. “Of course, Y/n. You’re the brightest star, and I want to learn more about you every day.”
I couldn’t help but to smile, now choosing to look up at Castiel. Looking down at me Castiel gave me a soft lipped kiss on my other cheek. As Castiel kissed my cheek he whispered in my ear “I think I’m falling.” A chill running down my spine.
Castiel left my cheek, and his hand fall yet again down to my open hand. His fingers grabbing to hold onto my pinky, so his thumb could gently graze over the top of my hand.
I leaned forward, catching his lips, in a gentle needy kiss. Like a dam had finally broke, and it was finally okay to feel every raw emotion. When I was very much in need of air, I slipped away and whispered in his. “It’s okay to fall, because at least we will be falling together.”
“Can I ask you something, Castiel?” I spoke. “Hmm, Of course Y/n.” Castiel responded. “When you did start feeling this way, you know about me?” I said, falling back into my timid and shy self. He gave me that face that told me ‘I’m thinking’ only a few moments passed before I received an answer from Castiel.
“I’d say it was the day that I finally met you. You shined just bright as the star the sky did. You were like a magnet for me. I just wanted to spend the rest of time with you. You are shy now, but when we first met. You, Y/n were a forced to reckoned with.” I smiled, and fell into Castiel arms.
“You are the reason why I love humanity. You make me want to be more human. You make me want to thrive. You show me that not everything is hard to finally have. You showed me long ago that you don’t have to be prefect.” Castiel said.
I started to laugh and cry into Castiel chest. “Are you alright, Y/n? Did I say or do something?” Castiel worried voice coming out. I lifted myself from Castiel very warm chest. “You didn’t do anything wrong, Castiel. You just made me feel nice, extremely good for the first time in a very long time. So, thank you Castiel.” I said, as Castiel wiped my happy tears away.
“Well, like I said Y/n. I want to learn more about, I want to be there to protect you. You and I for the rest of time.” Castiel said winking at me.

learn to love without consuming (1/4)
fandom: knight squad relationships: arc / ciara, minor or one-sided arc / oc and ciara / oc word count: 4,603
a/n: eek. it's finally here. if you follow me here you know that i've been working on this for a few weeks (months?), but the idea has been sitting in my drafts for basically forever. almost since i watched the show to begin with. the recent resurgence of the ks fandom prompted me to dig this back up and gave me the motivation to actually try and finish, because fuck it! i love my babes and i want more of them.
so quick note is that this picks up pretty soon after the season 1 finale but disregards basically,,, everything that happens in s2. s1 and the finale proceed the same way except prudy never finds out ciara's secret, so she and warwick don't know at the moment. this chapter was initially gonna have more scenes that drove the plot/romance arc but once i got upwards of 6k with a few major scenes left i decided it would be best if i split the chapter up, so for now it’s just a lot of me trying to work around the convoluted knight squad lore to establish my own. i know that's not exactly what everyone is here for, but i promise things on the romance/action front will pick up soon. i'll place warnings as detailed as i can get without spoiling in the tags and notes as i go, but just anticipate fairly significant violence by chapter 3.
anyway! i have talked enough. the title is from thus always to tyrants by the oh hellos, the rating is t for swearing/violence, there are three more chapters that are in the process of being written, and reviews are like crack as far as i'm concerned. i really hope you like this! thanks for reading <3
dedications: this fic is first and foremost for @ciara-knightly, who is not only my amazing beta but also the whole reason this fic exists. she helped me so so much with the development of the plot and worked through it with me even way before i decided to really start writing it, and i wouldn’t have been able to do this without her. all of the notes she left after beta-reading were so so helpful and really made this whole fic make sense so basically i owe her my entire life. she inspires me to be a better writer all the time and i love her. everyone say thank you shona!!! also tagging my lovely friends and some people who have expressed interest, who are in no way obligated to read this; @juliesdahlias @mistyskiesrambles @dr-rigatoni @willexs @taylorswiftrulestheworld @onplanetmars @neshatriumphs @zackmartin @julies-molinas @soni-dragon @yagorlemmalyn @hopefulbeautifulfool @cactus-con @waterisntreal @onetwothreefarkle @bitchmilsky
summary: “Now that Ryker isn’t a threat anymore, the councils are supposed to resume as planned, and Astoria is set to hold the first one two weeks from now.”
“Okay,” he says slowly. “That sounds exciting.”
Ciara nods. “It is! I finally get to meet some of the other nobility, and actually get to be involved in Astorian politics for once. But my dad won’t let me go without an escort,” she says, and then hesitates. “Which is where you come in.”
read it on ao3
The morning before training that day, Arc is testing his skills against a heavy bronze padlock when Ciara enters the squad room and drops a brown paper bag on the table in front of him.
“These,” she announces as he raises an eyebrow at her, “are for you.”
He pulls open the package and is instantly greeted with a rush of warmth and the smell of vanilla. “Dragon puffs?” he says, half in awe. It’s a clear bribe, but he can’t help but shove a sugar-coated sweet in his mouth anyway. They’re an Astorian original and possibly the best thing he’s ever tasted; he’d tried them once at a bakery near the castle and hasn’t stopped thinking about them since.
“Okay, what do you want?” he says then, words muffled around the cream and pastry.
Ciara pulls a face at his manners, but still manages to blink innocently at him. “Can’t I just do something nice for a friend?” she tries, but it’s half-hearted.
He swallows and grins at her. “Nice try, Princess. Your dessert deliveries always come with an ulterior motive.”
Huffing a sigh, she sits down next to him. There’s this subtle air of anticipation lingering around her, one he can only sense based on how in tune they are after so long of being teammates. The two of them have this easy way of reading each other now; they’ve been spending more and more time together, something having shifted in their dynamic after the battle against Ryker. He can’t quite place what it is, but he knows it’s only brought them closer. “Do you know what the Council of the Five Kingdoms is?” she asks finally.
He shrugs. “Sure. Nobles from each kingdom used to have a big ball every year to talk trading and politics and other boring stuff…”
“Except there hasn’t been a council since Ryker’s invasion, because the kingdoms have been isolated and preoccupied with their own safety,” she finishes for him. Her fingers tug at the lacing of her leather gauntlets; she’s nervous, but he still isn’t sure why. “Now that Ryker isn’t a threat anymore, the councils are supposed to resume as planned, and Astoria is set to hold the first one two weeks from now.”
Arc chokes on his second dragon puff. “You want me to be your escort,” he says flatly, once he’s finished coughing, “to the Council of the Five Kingdoms?” Normally he’d jump at the chance to spend a night dressing up and eating castle food. But the council is a decidedly different scene; there’s a set of formalities, politics underlying everything, and too many chances for him to expose his lack of knowledge when it comes to Astorian customs. Not to mention that Catalias’ royals will be there. He doesn’t know if he can stomach looking them in the face, knowing what they did to Seagate.
Ciara grimaces. “Look, I know it’s not exactly your thing, but my dad won’t let me go alone. And this really means a lot to me.” Her eyes are pleading, and Arc feels his resolve chipping away.
“Can’t one of your actual guards go with you?” he tries. “Or, Prudy or Warwick or someone?”
“I’ve already talked to my dad about it,” she explains. “You’re the only Knight School student he’d let protect me, because you already proved you could when Ryker invaded. Besides, if something were to happen…you’re the one person who knows I can handle myself as Ciara.”
There’s this brief stretch of silence where Arc works his bottom lip, and Ciara looks as though she’s debating something. “Also,” she adds finally, with the soft flicker of a hesitant smile, “I thought it might be fun to go with you.”
Arc blinks at her, caught off guard by the admission. There’s this sudden buzz in his chest that he can’t push away; in truth, he doesn’t like the idea of her spending the night with someone else either. Maybe, by some miracle, this will actually be a good thing. “Alright,” he relents. “I’ll be your escort.”
Ciara’s face breaks into a grin. “Yes! Thank you!” She throws her arms around him, and he’s shock-stilled, a rush of warmth flooding through him as he hugs her back. When she pulls away, her eyes are shining with excitement. “Okay, I’ve gotta go tell my dad you said yes, and there’s a million things to do, but I’ll see you at training later. You are the best.”
“I expect dragon puffs for life!” Arc calls after her as she disappears through her passageway. He leans back into the couch, lightheaded, and in that moment, he realizes abruptly that there’s almost nothing he wouldn’t do for her.
And he is so completely screwed.
*
Two weeks later, Arc is standing outside Ciara’s bedroom, waiting for her to finish getting ready.
It feels odd to be out here in the open. Generally his visits to her chamber are accompanied by an air of secrecy, but tonight, he’s a guest in the castle. He’s dressed like it, too, decked out in the guards’ typical formal wear: pressed brown pants, a white shirt laced up the front, and a navy leather jacket trimmed in gold, with Astoria’s crest on one shoulder. He looks kind of dashing, honestly.
Despite the confidence boost his new look offers him, his hand keeps drifting to the hilt of his sword. It’s sheer force of habit; he only associates this brewing sense of apprehension with battle, and his muscles are responding in kind. He’s glad, at least, that he turned down the other guards’ offer to lend him one of their ceremonial blades and instead has the familiarity of his own. Hopefully he won’t need it, but it’s a steadying presence all the same.
“Almost ready!” Ciara calls from inside, and Arc carefully unclenches his fingers from around the leather grip of his sword. He has to keep it together tonight; she’s made it clear how much this means to her. The last thing he wants to do is embarrass her in front of nobles from all five kingdoms.
Well, four, he reminds himself. Seagate won’t be attending. There isn’t anyone left to represent them.
The thought makes his stomach twist.
He’s saved from having to dwell on it by the sound of Ciara’s door unlatching. “Better prepare yourself, Princess,” he teases, leaning against the wall, “I look pretty good, and the last thing we want is for you to get too smitten—”
He breaks off as she emerges from the doorway, all the air in his lungs leaving in a sudden rush. He’s trying hard not to be the cliche of a guy scraping his jaw off the floor at the sight of a pretty girl in a dress, especially not like this, with Ciara—but he can’t help but think that it’s ridiculously unfair of her to come out looking like that. Her dress is a pale blue, falling gently off her shoulders and cinching at her waist, and her tight curls are weaved with strands of gold and tied into a low knot, some of them falling loose to frame her face. There’s a crown of gold leaves and rosebuds settled in her hair.
“You...um…” Arc searches for his voice, “you look amazing.” His mouth feels dry.
Ciara smirks and reaches up to adjust the collar of his uniform. “You don’t look so bad yourself. I’m definitely smitten,” she jokes, like it’s nothing for them to be flirting openly. It should be nothing. Except his skin burns where her fingers brush against his neck, and he suddenly wonders if she can hear his heart pounding.
He clears his throat. “We should probably get to the ballroom.”
She nods. “Give me your arm,” she says, looking at him expectantly. When he raises an eyebrow, she continues, “You’re my escort, remember?”
“Oh, right.” He lifts his arm obligingly, his cheeks warm.
“I really wish we’d had more time to go over Astorian customs,” she breathes as she takes it, more to herself than anything. “Between training and helping with preparations, I’ve been so busy…” His nerves must show on his face, then, because she squeezes his arm gently and amends, “Sorry. You’ll be fine, don’t worry. Just stay close to me, okay?”
“Not a problem,” he grins without missing a beat, and Ciara scoffs and shoves him, the smile tugging at her mouth taking all the bite away from it.
They can do this, he thinks. The two of them have kept up appearances for each other for months now, have fought and trained and battled Ryker together. They’re Arc and Ciara, unstoppable duo. One little party should be nothing.
As they make their way down the hall towards the ballroom, flanked by guards, Ciara lowers her voice. “When we get there, most of the nobles should be inside already. The herald will announce my father first, then us, and then each of the other three kingdoms. We’ll be beside the thrones as they come in—you’ll stand by me, left side—and once they’ve all been announced, we can leave the thrones and mingle. Bow to each of the rulers as they come by.”
They had, at least, practiced his bow. Arc swallows back the dread in his throat; all he has to do is stand beside her and greet the other royals, it’s easy enough. For a moment, they linger outside the entrance to the ballroom, until an official-sounding voice announces the King. “We’re next,” Ciara whispers to him, eyes glinting with excitement. “You ready?”
He nods back at her, and the voice calls, “Accompanied by Sir Arc...Princess Angelica of Astoria!” They step into the ballroom, greeted with applause. Arc doesn’t think he’s ever been in a place this lavish; the walls are white, accented in deep gold, and the floors are polished to a gleam. The ceiling looks hand-painted, ornately decorated in constellations and swirling designs, and crystal chandeliers dangle over their heads, casting a golden glow over the whole room. He tries not to look too awe-struck.
They make their way to the platform on which the thrones rest, Ciara nodding and smiling and waving at the other nobles as they pass. She stands next to her father, and Arc takes his place on her other side, placing his hands behind his back and trying, for all the world, to look like he belongs there. He wonders suddenly if he’s stood too close to her, and if it would make things worse for him to shift over now, and if his indecision is showing on his face—
And then, almost imperceptibly and hidden from the ballroom’s view by the folds of her dress, Ciara reaches over and links her pinky with his. It’s a tiny gesture, a friendly reassurance, but Arc feels a tide of warmth swell in his chest all the same. He lets his gaze flit to her for just a moment, and her lips are graced with a small smile as she tugs his finger gently.
His breath hitches, and he fights to keep his face a passive neutral as the herald announces the next kingdom and he turns his attention back to the doorway.
“Presenting King Hugo, Queen Luciana, and their son Prince Isaac of Catalias!”
Arc’s stomach turns as the couple enters, trailed by their son, all three of them swathed in lavish red and gold. Their reputation precedes them; he knows little about the prince, but the king and queen are infamous for their hoarding of wealth, their favorance of the rich nobles and landowners of their kingdom over the common people. Arc knows them best for what they had done to Seagate.
His hand twitches for his sword, but he fights against the instinct.
True to form, the two have a haughty look about them, all starched clothes and stiff smiles as they bow to Ciara and the King. The two of them return the greeting with Arc following their lead—grudgingly.
“I am so pleased you could join us tonight,” the King smiles, a little tight-lipped. “It is high time that Astoria and Catalias united again.”
King Hugo nods back. “I couldn’t agree more. The honor is ours.”
Arc detects a veiled sort of tension between the two of them, hidden well underneath the cordial formalities. He glances at Isaac, whose eyes are trained intently on Ciara even as he and his parents move to greet the other guests. Something about it is unsettling.
He’s so focused on Isaac that he almost misses the herald’s announcement of the next kingdom. “Queen Damyanti, and her children Princess Aadhya and Prince Kavan of Khurjan!”
Queen Damyanti is the picture of elegance, draped in silver silk that almost seems to glow against her dark skin. Aadhya looks around fifteen, with the same deep eyes and regal expression, and Kavan must be ten or so. He grins toothily as the three of them approach the thrones and bow.
The King’s expression is much warmer now. “Queen Damyanti. It has been too long. I trust Khurjan is doing well?”
“Not quite as well as Astoria, perhaps,” she replies, and it’s teasing, no sharpness to it. “This ball is absolutely lovely. Princess Angelica, you look so beautiful. Just like your mother. I was so sorry to hear of her passing.”
Ciara’s eyes go soft. “Thank you, Queen Damyanti,” she nods back. “It’s wonderful to finally meet you.”
“You as well. It’s a shame your sister couldn’t make it, but hopefully we’ll all gather again soon.” She gives a small, departing nod and joins the rest of the nobles, Aadhya giving them a bright-eyed smile and Kavan waving enthusiastically as they follow her. Ciara laughs.
“And finally...King Jesper of Vysalt!”
Arc is confused for a moment; he wonders if he had remembered the name of Vysalt’s king wrong. Then a young man with a head of dark curls and a smattering of freckles against tawny brown skin enters, his crown just slightly crooked. His eyes are wide and dark, and a jagged, white scar cuts across his cheekbone. He can’t be much older than they are.
“He’s the king?” Arc whispers to Ciara under his breath as Jesper makes his way over to them. “How old is he?”
Her expression twists a little in sympathy. “Seventeen. He wasn’t supposed to inherit the throne so soon. His parents were killed when Ryker’s army took over his kingdom.”
Arc isn’t sure what to say to that. He knows what it’s like to lose everything to Ryker—he can picture the flames every time he shuts his eyes. But he hadn’t known about Vysalt or the fate of its royals. They had been close allies with Seagate at one point, one of the only other kingdoms without much wealth, and their king and queen had been known for their generosity.
Somehow Arc had thought the damage had been done to Seagate alone, but now he wonders how the other kingdoms fared, if they suffered just as much. If any of them came out as unscathed as Astoria did.
“Your Majesties,” Jesper says as he bows, and there’s a note of pity in the King’s expression as he returns the gesture. Arc can only imagine how he feels about someone so close to his daughter’s age having to run a kingdom on his own.
“King Jesper. How are you doing?”
It’s a more personal question than he had asked the other royals, Arc notes. Jesper smiles easily; it’s soft, highlights his deep dimples and makes his dark eyes glimmer. “Well, thank you. Vysalt is recovering with time. As am I,” he adds, voice quieting for a moment.
The King nods back. “That’s good to hear. Let us know if there’s anything Astoria can do to help.”
Something flickers in Jesper’s expression, hard to read and gone so quickly that Arc wonders if he imagined it. The young king bows again before moving to join the others, but not before he catches Arc’s eye and smiles warmly. It surprises him—the other royals had hardly given him a second glance—but he returns it with one of his own. Beside him, Ciara lifts an eyebrow, her expression a mixture of amusement and something else he can’t place.
“What?” he asks quietly, and she shakes her head, glancing away.
“Nothing.”
He wants to pry, but the King is clearing his throat, getting ready to address the room. The chatter dies down as all eyes turn to him.
“My fellow Astorians,” he says in his deep, booming voice, sounding more formal than Arc has ever heard him, “and my guests from our neighboring kingdoms...I am honored to welcome you to our castle, and so pleased that we could all be in attendance tonight.”
Not all of us, Arc thinks, but no word of Seagate comes up.
The King continues, “For decades, our kingdoms have been isolated and divided by Ryker’s armies. We have long suffered under his forces, but his threat is gone for good. Thus, tonight is more than a council; it is a symbol of our victory, a symbol of our unity as we move forward and rebuild. So enjoy yourselves! After all, we have so much to celebrate!”
To Arc, the sentiment feels hollow. He got his revenge, and of course he’s glad that Ryker can’t hurt anyone else, but it doesn’t change the fact that Seagate is in ruins. It feels suddenly difficult to celebrate with the weight of his village’s absence lingering in the air around him. The rest of the partygoers don’t seem to share his hesitance, though; the room breaks into applause and cheers, several of the guests raising their goblets jovially.
Ciara gives him a subtle nudge, jolting him out of his thoughts. “Now we get to mingle,” she grins, leading him off the throne platform and towards the crowd.
He follows dutifully as she heads toward the table where the other kingdoms’ royals have gathered, Astoria’s king staying behind to greet the other royals. Queen Damyanti is in conversation with King Hugo and Queen Luciana, but she doesn’t seem entirely pleased about it, and Jesper and Kavan are laughing at something Aadhya has said. Isaac hovers next to them, looking like he’d rather be anywhere else. He has his father’s golden hair and clear blue eyes, but the frown on his face is entirely his mother’s.
It disappears, though, the moment he sees Ciara approaching them. “Princess Angelica,” he greets her, with a little too much enthusiasm for Arc’s liking, “I’m so honored to finally meet you. You’re even more radiant in person.” Before she can say anything, he takes her hand and kisses it swiftly. Arc narrows his eyes.
Ciara gives a forced-sounding chuckle and curtseys, pulling her hand back. “Thank you, Prince Isaac. I’m glad you could make it. Allow me to introduce Sir Arc, my guard and escort for the night.”
Arc bows—and if he never has to bow to another pompous royal again, he thinks, it’ll be too soon—and Isaac offers him a dismissive sort of half-smile. Any further interaction they would’ve had then is thankfully avoided by the other royals noticing Ciara’s arrival.
“Hi, Princess Angelica!” Aadhya says brightly, with a neat little dip of a curtsey, “I’m Aadhya.” When Ciara and Arc begin to return the gesture, she waves her hand with a tiny scoff. “Oh, you don’t have to do that. Formalities. Just come sit.” She returns to her chair and pats the seat next to her, and Arc decides right there that he likes her.
Ciara takes the offered chair, and Arc takes the only other open spot, in between her and King Jesper. As Ciara launches into conversation with Aadhya, Jesper turns to him.
“Hi,” he says, a small smile tugging at his lips. “I’m Jesper.”
Arc bites back a laugh at the unnecessary introduction. “I know who you are, Your Highness,” he replies lightly.
“I know. I was just trying to give you an opening to tell me who you are.”
Oh. That’s unexpected. There’s no prerogative behind his words, no assertion; Jesper’s grin is almost bashful, his voice easy and bright. He doesn’t sound like a king, just a seventeen-year-old boy trying to flirt. Arc can’t help but return his smile.
“I’m Arc,” he says. “Normally I’m a student at Knight School, but I’m the princess’s guard and escort for the night.”
“Wait,” Aadhya pauses her conversation with Ciara to lean over and look at him, “You’re the Arc who defeated Ryker?”
“I helped,” Arc says with a shrug, and the princess’s eyes go wide. She turns to Ciara.
“Were you there too?”
“I was—” Ciara pauses for a moment, “hiding. I was hiding. Arc got me to safety.”
He grins a little at her, tongue between his teeth, knowing it must be killing her to hide what she was actually doing. She narrows her eyes and kicks his leg under the table in response, a silent shut up. He lifts his eyebrows, like, I didn’t say anything, and she rolls her eyes in an entirely non-subtle manner.
Across the table, Queen Damyanti is watching their exchange with a raised eyebrow, Arc notices belatedly. She has a mildly amused look on her face, but doesn’t say anything about it. Instead, she states, “Battling Ryker face-to-face must have been quite the experience.”
“What was it like?” Prince Kavan asks eagerly from beside his sister.
Aadhya elbows him. “Kavan,” she hisses, but Arc just grins.
“No worries. It was…” he trails, trying to think of what to say and suddenly aware that all the royals’ eyes are on him. He shifts in his seat. “It was scary, obviously. He had the Armor of Astoria, and a whole army with him, and most of the Astorian knights under his spell. But, y’know. We Knight School students are pretty formidable. We all took him on together. Wouldn’t have been able to do it otherwise. I wasn’t half as scared as I would’ve been without my squadmates watching my back.”
He glances at Ciara, who smiles softly and nudges his foot, gentler this time. Jesper has that same unreadable look on his face and Aadhya has her chin propped in her hand, her expression amazed, but Queen Luciana gives a snide sort of scoff.
“It’s a wonder it took so long to defeat him, then, if a group of students cut him down so easily,” she says. “Perhaps Ryker was never as great a threat as we all made him out to be.”
There’s a cut of silence across the table in which Jesper visibly stiffens. “With all due respect, Queen Luciana, Ryker’s attacks were devastating. Or have you forgotten what happened to my parents?” he demands, without any respect at all. His eyes are blazing.
“I’m merely pointing out that the only real damage done was to the less...fortified kingdoms,” she sniffs. “Ryker only breached Catalias’s walls once, and he was driven out rather quickly.”
“Well, not every kingdom has Catalias’s resources.” Ciara sounds like she’s choosing her words carefully, frustration masked well behind them.
King Hugo gives a huff of a laugh; his blue eyes are cold. “My dear princess, you have no cause for indignation. Astoria lost the least to Ryker, what with your,” he waves a hand, “magic bubble.”
Ciara opens her mouth but falters, brow furrowed, and across the table, Queen Damyanti speaks up. “Nevertheless, Ryker was still a formidable enemy to all of us. We were only prepared for his attacks because he targeted Seagate and Vysalt first. And Seagate’s destruction is a clear example of his power.”
“Oh, even you can’t argue that Seagate was rotting long before Ryker got to it, Damyanti,” Hugo replies swiftly, and Arc’s breath catches in his throat. Queen Damyanti shrugs in agreement, her expression passive; Arc almost stands up, but Ciara’s hand on his leg underneath the table stops him.
“Don’t,” she hisses, just barely loud enough for him to hear, “Let me handle this.”
Though as it turns out, she doesn’t have to. Before she has a chance to speak, Jesper is already bristling, his voice sharp: “As if Seagate’s corruption justifies the destruction of its people?”
“It’s thieves and criminals, you mean?” Isaac scoffs. “Seagate was a wasteland. The kingdoms are better off.”
The words ring in Arc’s ears, alongside the pounding of his blood. They sound painfully similar to what Ryker had said to him on the mountain—rats and thieves, I did the five kingdoms a favor—and he thinks fleetingly that he’s going to be sick. He’s always known that Seagate was looked down on by the other kingdoms, but hearing them say so casually that what happened, the flames and the destruction and all of the death, was deserved—
“The people were only thieves and criminals because Catalias took advantage of them,” Jesper argues. “I hope I don’t have to remind you that it was your government that poured money into the gangs of Seagate for their own profit and allowed them to stage a coup in the first place.”
The words are deadly and cold, but Arc feels a flash of admiration for Jesper; the king has no obligations towards Seagate, and yet defends it like his own. King Hugo’s gaze hardens. “You’re blaming Catalias for Seagate’s problems?” he says with a derisive laugh. “If anything, Ryker’s attacks only revealed that Seagate was a kingdom full of people that weren’t worth saving.”
“That’s enough,” Ciara says abruptly. Her hand tightens on Arc’s leg, and he can no longer tell if he’s the one trembling or if she is. There’s this burning fire behind her eyes; she looks, Arc thinks briefly, the same way she does in battle. “What happened to Seagate was a devastating tragedy, and I won’t let you treat it as otherwise. Those who disagree aren’t welcome here.”
It’s a weighted statement, one she doesn’t entirely have the formal authority to make, but no one dares to contest it. A heavy silence settles over all of them. Arc doesn’t know how long he can sit there with all the heat under his skin; he doesn’t remember when his hand found the hilt of his sword, only that he’s gripping it tight enough that the leather bites into his palm. He wants to stand up and tell them that none of them would be here if it weren’t for him, a thief from Seagate. In truth, the only thing holding him back is Ciara. In a battle between her steady hand and the storm in his chest, she wins without even trying.
He doesn’t say anything or look at her, but her gaze flits to him for a moment and she just knows, standing up. Before she even opens her mouth, Isaac is on his feet too. “Going so soon?” he asks. “Would you care to dance, Princess?”
She looks at him coolly for a moment. “I would, actually.” And then, she turns to Arc, offering him her hand, “Sir Arc, dance with me?”
Arc blinks up at her and takes it as he stands. “Absolutely, Princess,” he says, letting her lead him away from the table and glancing back only long enough to catch the dumbfounded expression on Isaac’s face.

Smile Again Part 10
It’s a long one but one of my favorites!
Masterlist | Smile Again Masterlist
Things get a little angsts! But lots of cute too
——————————
About 2 weeks after Y/N and Aaron’s first date the team caught a local case that baffled them all. The Unsub was killing women and leaving notes on their bodies. He was also sending threats to their families. The interesting thing was he was using several languages at once to create a whole new language to write them in. Some of the languages, not even Reid knew and reworking the whole thing would take a very long time.
“Reid can you make any of this out?” Emily said looking at a letter the unsub left at the scene.
“I’m good but I’m not that good, I could work on decoding it but it’ll take me a hours to even figure out the languages used.” He replied.
“We need you in the field, and we don’t have hours.” Hotch said. He knew Reid could do it, but they couldn’t be a man down.
“It’s local, there are tons of colleges around maybe we can find an expert to assist Reid and figure this out.” Morgan added.
“Reid do you know anyone?” Rossi asked, Reid began to think before JJ cut in.
“Uh Hotch I know someone... but you’re not going to like it”
“Who?” Hotch asked. He suddenly had a gut feeling he really wasn’t going to like her suggestion, but he wasn’t sure why.
“Y/N” JJ said, nervously looking at her boss.
“Y/N? Like my-our-your Y/N?” He stumbled out.
“Yeah, our Y/N.” JJ chuckled at how flustered her cousin made her boss. “She’s spent her whole life since age 13 studying languages and what makes them up.” She continued.
“13? Is she a kid genius like pretty boy over here?” Morgan asked, patting Reid on the back.
“I mean she didn’t graduate early, she’s just always been interested in languages.” JJ answered, still keeping an eye on Hotch’s reaction.
He clearly wasn’t excited about the idea of her being involved, but was trying to hid his emotions. He knew she was brilliant and had heard her speak several languages, most of the time just to entertain Jack. He also liked to watch her work when she would bring the books she was translating to movie nights if she was near a deadline. He couldn’t deny working with her would be interesting to say the least, but he really didn’t want her near the types of people they saw. Like usual, JJ saw straight through him and gave him an apologetic, but pleading look.
“You think she could work this language out?” Rossi asked interrupting the two agent’s eye contact.
“I mean she once wrote half a thesis in a made up language to prove her theory on how our brains intupret and learn languages.” Jj shared with a proud smile.
“That’s genius” Reid said.
“Plus, I happen to know she passed a field agent test not that long ago to help out a local department in PA that sex crimes was helping with.” She added quietly.
“Really?” Morgan asked.
Hotch froze and JJ began to explain how even though she didn’t go in the field again after swat, she has volunteered to assist on a few cases with local PDs and the FBI office, but to do that she still had to test and prove she was capable for anything. Hotch knew she was capable of anything at all, but he didn’t want her to have to be in any situation to use those skills.
“I don’t want her in the field.” Hotch said with a strict tone, cutting off the other agents chatter. ‘Hell I don’t want her involved at all’, he thought, but he knew he couldn’t make that decision for her.
“So is that a yes?” Emily asked.
“It’s an I will ask her” Hotch grumbled
Rossi follows behind him as he stomps up to his office to reluctantly call his girlfriend. He loved how brilliant and kind she was. However right now he was cursing that two of his favorite things about her were what made him have to call and ask her to put herself in danger.
“Why doesn’t JJ ask?” Rossi asked with a smirk, following him up the stairs.
“Cause Y/N’ll feel inclined to say yes.” Hotch grumbled.
“And she won’t with you?” The older agent wondered.
“I’m hoping she’ll be inclined to say no to me”
“Have you seen the way she looks at you, I don’t think she ever wants to say no.” Rossi smiled.
“Dave” Aaron warned
“You know I’m right... because you’re even worse.” Dave said causing Hotch to roll his eyes and walk into his office.
Hotch picked up his cell phone to call Y/N, really wishing he didn’t have to, but their case really needed it.
“Y/L/N” she answered. He smiled, she must have been in the middle of work. Answering that way when busy was a side effect of her years in law enforcement.
“You sound so official, should I call back later Ms Y/L/N?” He chuckled. Hearing her voice made his nerves vanish, until he remembered why he was calling.
“Hey you!” She said, voice perking up. “Is everything okay?”
“Yeah, yeah everything is fine.” He answered but she could tell he wasn’t being entirely truthful by the tone of his voice.
“What’s wrong Aaron?” She asked, fully stopping her work to listen.
“Before I ask this promise me you’ll think about it and not automatically say yes.” He prefaced.
“Oookay” she said skeptically, urging him to continue.
She heard him take a deep breath and sigh.
He dove in to explaining the case and the reason they needed help. He again explaining that she could say no, or even suggest someone else that could help. She listened intently and thought about it even though she knew her answer.
“Of course I’ll help” she said when he finally stopped his explanation.
“Y/N you do not have to do this.” He explained again.
“You want me to say no.” It was a statement not a question and her tone made him wince. He didn’t want her to think that he didn’t think she was right for the job or that she couldn’t take care of herself. He just really didn’t want her near danger.
“I just don’t want you to feel obligated” he sighed.
“I don’t Aaron, I want to help! But just linguistics no tech stuff.” She tried to joke but he knew the seriousness of that statement.
“Deal, you won’t be anywhere near the field if I have anything to do with it.” He chuckled lightly but just like him, she knew how serious he was.
“Did JJ make that rule?” She tried to joke but became more worried when instead of his usual chuckle he just huffed.
“I think your cousin would have you leading the team of I let her.” He said and she caught his irritated tone.
“Aaron what’s wrong?” She asked, not wanting to end the call and agree if he was going to be upset.
“I didn’t want you wrapped up in this.” He practically whispered and it made her heart hurt.
“If you don’t want me to help-“ she began before he cut her off.
“That’s not it Y/N, I’m sort of excited to work with you.” He admitted, making her smile before he sighed, “I just don’t want you hurt.”
“I’ve got you and Jayje and the team to protect me, baby. Plus I’m a badass remember?” She assured him and he couldn’t deny how much he loved the way the pet name sounded from her lips.
“Promise you’ll be safe for me?” He asked
“Yes, do you promise?”
“Always am, for you and jack”
“I know,” she said softly, before continuing with a smirk “So you’re excited to work with me?”
“Mmm it’s really sexy to see you in action.” He admitted in a low husky voice she loved.
There was no shortage of making out and boarder line groaping during their last couple movie nights after jack went to bed but they hadn’t gone past that since the first time. She absolutely loved hearing him talk like this.
“Oh yeah?” She asked and heard him grunt. “The language or the ass kicking?”
“Mmm both, but hearing you speak in other languages, god I don’t know what you’re saying but i love it.”
“ mm buono a sapersi bello” she hummed and heard his breath hitch.
“Be careful with that baby, I’m at work.” He purred
“Mm well after the case I’ll have to explore your love of my work some more.”
“Please do” he cleared his throat then and she laughed
“Oh buniness Hotch is back! Should I head in to the BAU now?”
“Yeah I can send someone to get you.”
“Unless it’s you I can handle getting there.” She laughed as she heard him cough again.
“I’ll see you soon, have Garcia email me all the evidence that’s in his ‘language’ so I can start working on it on the train?”
“Will do, I’ll also remind her not to get to used to you working with her.”
“I’d be too much of a distraction for you boss man.
“Bye y/n”
“See you soon Aaron.”
“So she’s in?” JJ smiled and asked when Hotch renterd the bullpen.
“Yeah” he grumbled “We keep her safe and out of the field.”
The team all nodded and JJ cheered quietly about getting to work with her cousin. Hotch chuckled at JJ’s antics and hid his own excitement about working with Y/N.
Hotch gave instructions of where to got, y/n would meet them at the BAU where read was doing the geo-profile and after JJ and Hotch met with local pd they’d come back and brief her.
In the car JJ could feel Hotch’s anxiety. She knew it wasn’t about the case, rather the idea of Y/N helping with the case.she felt guilty for suggesting something that caused him so much stress, but she knew her cousin could handle it.
“Hotch I’m sorry if I put you in a shitty situation suggesting Y/N.” She watched him tense even lore at her words. “But my cousin is a super hero, she can do anything and I trust her with my life, and our teams lives. Trust me when I say I’d never have suggested her if I thought she couldn’t handle it.”
“I know that, and I trust her too but Jack and I can’t lose her.” He admitted, surprising himself and JJ. Truth was, he couldn’t keep much of anything from the blonde agent even if he tried.
“Are we okay?”
“Yeah Jennifer, we’re okay. I can’t very well stay mad at the person who introduced Y/N Y/L/N into my life can I?
They both chuckled and felt the tension ease just a bit.
Y/N set up a little space for her to work in the conference room and set to work. She knew she shouldn’t be having fun during a murder investigation, but she couldn’t deny she loved this kind of work.
Derek has nicknamed her and Reid the nerd squad, after he walked in on them spewing theories and slaw itching between languages in a way no ‘normal human’ would comprehend. Hotch couldn’t help but stop and watch Y/N work for a moment when he and JJ got back with the lead detective.
He was snapped out of his trance by Rossi making a vaguely inappropriate comment about the ‘true reason’ he didn’t want y/m on the case. The sputtering cough he did in response to that comment caused his girlfriend’s beautiful eyes to snap up and lock with his.
She smiled widely at him and began to explain the progress they had made to him and the detective. He couldn’t help but love her even more for the way she was so professional, yet still somehow made him feel noticed by her.
Aaron thanked her and explained to all in the room their next steps. He left Y/N to it and called Reid to follow them to go check out a lead. Y/N suddenly felt a flash of anxiety listening to Aaron talk about breaching the house if they had to. He didn’t miss the look on her face and told the team he’d meet them at the SUVs.
“Hey, I’ll be fine” he whispered moving closer to her. He knew it was risky but pulled her into his arms anyway. Kissing her head and then quickly pulling back.
“I did t think it’d scare me this much, I mean I know what you do but being here and hearing it all... what if you don’t come back? What if I have to watch-“ she started to break and he took her hand.
“Y/N I won’t let that happen! I WILL come back to you”
She nodded and squeezed his hand
“I’m sorry”
“Don’t be sorry sweetheart, JJ had to talk me off the same ledge in the suv.” This caused her to giggle and calm down a bit.
“Get going boss man, be safe.”
“Anything for you” he smiled and headed off.
Y/N moved her operation down to be with Garcia I case they needed help with the language, but mostly because she didn’t want to be alone. The lead was a dead end so the team headed back and were working on the profile again when Y/N decoded a journal entry that talked about an abandoned warehouse that he used to frequent when he was homeless.
“Let’s go, Garcia stay online, Reid-“
“Hotch Y/N should probably ride along.” Rossi just got out before Aaron boomed “NO”.
Y/N looked just as startled by the idea as Aaron.
“Hotch she needs to be with us decoding the journal in case there is a new location, or he starts talking in his language.”
“I told you, she doesn’t go in the field” y/N could feel the anger radiating off of him, she saw JJ thinking about how to calm him down.
“Hey”, she whispered to Aaron, pulling him to the side, she locked eyes with Rossi who immediately understood and began to lead the team to the cars.
“Don’t worry you d-“ he started before she cut him off.
“I’m going to come with you.” She said and braced herself for his reaction.
“NO Y/N.” He said steadily but still gentle as he always was with her.
“I will be so careful, I won’t go anywhere near the scene. You need me Aaron”
“Yeah I do need you, alive.”
She felt her heart clench at his words and stroked his cheek, “I will be safe, please trust me.”
“I do!”
“I know, so remember that, you’ll be right there, so will JJ.”
“What if I can’t protect you?”
“Sweetheart, I just want to catch this guy, so I can spend time with my favorite boys! I’ll be okay.”
“Promise?”
She nodded and pulled him along to the cats.
“Dave was right...” he huffed
She looked at him to explain and he continued.
“I can’t say no to you”
She smirked and responded “I’ll have to remember that.
When they pulled up to the scene y/n pushed down the fear and memories of the case that changed her whole life and took her husband. If she was going to do this. She locked eyes with Aaron in the rear view mirror and smiled when he sent her a sweet wink.
That was the last moment of calm before all hell broke loose. The unsub was in the warehouse holding a woman hostage. Hotch broke all his rules and kissed Y/N lightly before putting on his vest to assure her he’d be okay. He left her in the safety of the SUV as he went to the staging area.
After about 15 minutes the unsub began to lose it even more.
“Hotch he’s speaking the language we have to send Y/N in.” Reid said, earning him a nasty glare from his boss.
“Not a chance. We’ll just wire someone.” Hotch responded.
“He’ll know” JJ said with a defeated tone herself. He knew she didn’t want her cousin to go in either but they had no choice.
“Fine” he sighed “but I go with her.”
“You’re too intimidating I’ll go.” Jj countered
“Jj you keep her safe.” He sternly whispered as they ent to brief Y/N.
“Hotch I know you love her but so do I, I’d do anything to protect her.” She said quickly before they reached you
“Jj I-“
“Don’t try to deny it Hotch, I know you haven’t told her yet but I know it’s true.” Hotch flushes a bit.
“I know you’d do anything to protect her JJ, I just, I can’t lose her and I hate putting her in this position even though I know she can handle it.” He admitted and knew JJ understood.
They briefed Y/N and after a brief moment of panic Y/N assured them both she could to it. She put on a vest and they entered the building.
Everything was going well, Y/N was speaking to him in his language, she was doing everything by right. That was until the hostage began to yell and insult him. He shoved the victim towards Y/N sending them both fattening down a flight of steps.
Jj secured the unsubscribe and cleared the team to come in. She hadn’t looked over towards her cousin yet but could tell the victim was fine.
She rushed down the stairs to see her cousin laying unconscious with a gash to the head.
“No no no” Jj said taking her hand as
took team came in and Rossi began to move the unsub to the SUVs
“Y/n!” Hotch wailed. Running to Y/N’s limo figure.
“Hotch I’m sorry Jj said, but Hotch couldn’t hear anything as he rushed to Y/N’s side, grasping her hand in his.
“Y/N please”
“Hm hi handsome” she said opening her eyes and groaning as she held her head. It took her a bit to realize what was happening, but the smell of the old warehouse brought most of the recent events back. “Don’t look so worried you two, I’m alive.” She said with a weak smile
“I’m going to get the medic” JJ said before kissing her cousins head and running off.
“Aaron I kn-“ she began
“I love you” he cut her off
“What?” Yn breathes
“I’m in love with you, I know it’s crap timing and you probably have a concussion but god I don’t want to waste anymore time with out you knowing I love you.”
“I love you too Aaron.”
He held her face and kissed her soundly. Pulling away when he heard Rossi wolf whistle behind them.
“I guess they all know now, sorry I know you like to be secretive.”
“they’ve known how I’ve felt longer than I did. Plus I don’t plan on keeping you a secret y/n ever.
He was insanely happy he finally told her how he felt and got to hear that she loved him too. Now he had to face JJ knowing he let her cousin get hurt.
Outside with the medics JJ was terrified to face her boss knowing she let Y/N get hurt. She was holding back tears that she could have lost her best friend.
Y/N was just happy to be loved by Aaron and JJ, and to be alive she was happy about that too. And dizzy she was also dizzy.

Thoughts On Being A Jedi
Obi-Wan Kenobi x reader
Word Count: 1.7k
Warnings: insinuated smut
Author’s Note: DUDE!!! I had wayyyy to much fun writing this lol. So much fun. I love writing for obi-wan thanks my love for requesting it
Requested: by @ateliefloresdaprimavera aaaand now I can't stop thinking on an AU where, instead of Anakin being his padawan, YN is. She's not much younger than him,but because of her age,Qui Gon Jinn sees something in her as well, and (he lives this time) goes to train Anankin, and Obi goes to train yn, and the rest is romantic history!
Summary: the request!!
Genre: flufffyyy
Song:
(not my gif)
You never planned on being a Jedi. You never thought you were good enough, living on a planet that nobody ever gave a second thought about. It wasn’t until Obi-Wan Kenobi and his master, Qui Gon Jinn came to your planet. You were friends with a young boy named Anakin and when they seemed to take a liking to him, you had jumped along for the ride. You were only about two years younger than Obi-Wan but you were fascinated by him. The Jedi ways.
You would be lying if you said you weren’t attracted to him. You knew enough about the Jedi to know he was never allowed to marry. That didn’t stop you from liking him. He was handsome and brave and a good man. You looked up to him and you loved him. For better or worse.
“Y/N have you ever wanted to be a Jedi?” Anakin asked you one day as you sat on the stairs of his home. There was discussion of bringing Anakin back with the Jedi, way far away. You thought about his question and looked at Obi-Wan who was talking with the woman they had come with. Padme you think was her name. You leaned back to ignore whatever conversation they were having, attempting to ignore the creeping jealousy in your chest.
“I’ve never thought I could. Looks like you might get a shot though,” you said with a smile. He nodded, his face flushed.
“I want you and my mom to come though. It’d be so lonely without you,” he explained. You shrugged. There was nothing special about you. Your idea was that you would never see your little friend again but you didn’t tell him that. He should be excited about his new found talent, not worried about you.
“Well I guess you can ask Obi-Wan,” you teased and stood up. You brushed dust off your clothes and put your hands on your hips. Your eyes caught Anakin as he watched you.
“You like him don’t you?” he inquired. You shook your head but there was no denying the flustered look on your face.
“He's a Jedi Ani. It would never happen anyway,” you said brushing him off. As if on cue, the padawan approached you and Anakin, a smile gracing his face. You returned it, leaning against the dusty brick wall beside you.
“We were just talking about you!” Anakin exclaimed. You shot him a glare. Obi-Wan only chuckled.
“All good things I hope?”
“There’s not a bad thing she can say about you,” Anakin pointed out and you swatted his hair. It caused a good laugh from the both of them.
“You’ll make a wonderful Jedi one day is all,” you explained. He nodded but Anakin was still giving him a mischievous eye.
“Have you ever thought about being a Jedi Y/N?” he inquired. You smiled at the strikingly similar question as the one you had just been asked.
“Thought about it sure. But only because I like the color,” you teased grabbing his lightsaber from his side. He gave you a stern look but you just moved it around without opening it, making the sound affect.
Anakin laughed as you mimicked cutting off Obi-Wan's head dramatically. He smiled, a big toothy grin. At the time, you didn’t know him that well but a grin like that was pretty rare. You smiled back at him and handed the lightsaber over.
“That wasn’t bad form you know,” he pointed out. You shrugged.
“Your form is pretty good too,” you said. You both blushed and only Anakin saw it.
It was just before the fight with Maul that anyone brought up the fact that you had tagged along. As Obi-Wan defeated the villain with the help of his Master, you were amazed that they made it out alive. You ran over to them, flanked by Anakin. The two of you checked the Jedis over for injury, exclaiming your amazement and wonder about their feat. You clinged to Obi-Wan, your worry for his life not quite gone.
It was after his near death experience that Qui Gonn voiced his opinion on you and your tiny friend.
“Y/N have you ever thought about being a Jedi?” You peeled away from Obi-Wan and you, him and Anakin chuckled. You had been asked that question many times now. Only then did you give a serious answer.
“Yeah. I have.” Obi-Wan's touch lingered on your shoulder and you were all to aware of it.
“Would you like to train to be one?” That was a question you hadn’t been expecting. You wanted desperately to leave your little home and get out there. This seemed like a perfect escape.
You’d be lying if you said that the fact you would get to see Obi-Wan every once in a while didn’t influence your answer.
“I’d love too,” you exlaimed with a grin. Qui Gonn smiled, glancing between Obi-Wan and you. He was all too aware of his padawans crush on you. While that wasn’t ideal in a situation like this, he knew that if he were to offer you a position it would have to be with Obi. There was no keeping you apart once you realized the feelings were mutual.
“Obi-Wan will train you. I will train Anakin,” he stated. Your mouth opened a little in surprise and your eyes found Obi-Wans. He gave you a grin and raised his hands to your cheeks. For a moment you thought he was going to kiss you. He did it out of sheer autopilot. Qui Gonn was distracted by Anakin and chose to ignore the situation behind him.
Obi pulled away and stepped back.
“I’m glad you’re my master,” you breathed. The rush of his lips almost being on yours was too much to handle.
“Yes me too. We’ll have a lot of fun,” he stated. You turned away from each other.
It took precisely two training sessions before you kissed for real.
You were being taught Jedi history, lore. You wouldn’t quite call it a training session but you were having plenty of fun listening to Obi-Wan speak. You sat across from each other on your new bed. It had all been provided from you when you arrived. Such a stark difference from the home you had had only a week prior.
“There was this huge fight. Everyone still talks about. It’s the stuff of legend Y/N,” he explained. You nodded, chin resting on your palm.
“I’m sure they do. Everyone I’ve met here is very boring,” you joked. He rolled his eyes and you leaned back on the bed. It was quite an informal practice, being there. But it seemed to build up to something and you were far from complaining.
“Do you like your new room?” he asked, leaning above you. He looked out your large window at the small balcony and stars above the city. You sat up and nodded.
“I love it. Everything about it. Except that it’s attached to your room. Who let that happen!?” You got up and walked to the balcony.
“I’m your master!” The word still felt odd to say to him. He was getting used to being on the other side of the training and lessons.
You placed your elbows on the balcony awning, looking at the stars above you. He followed close beside you.
“My master,” you said a smile dancing on your lips. “You’re just Obi-Wan,” you promised. He looked at you, eyes catching yours. It was a perfect moment. He would have had to have been a special kind of man not to kiss you in that moment.
He was not that kind of man.
Your heart skipped a beat and you let him touch you, a hand on the small of your back and the other on your face. There was no denying this. There was no denying your feelings.
You pulled away, breathless. You looked at his beautiful eyes and smiled.
“Do you remember when you told me my form was good?” he asked. You squinted at him, recalling the memory with a find gaze.
“Yes…”
“You didn’t mean my fighting form did you.” You chuckled and shook your head, breaking his gaze but then regaining it.
“Obviously not.”
He hummed a smile and kissed you again. You grabbed him by the robes and dragged him back to your room.
“I picked out the sheets,” he muttered against your lips and in between hasty kisses. You smiled, your figure against his as close as they could get as you stumbled around.
“With this in mind?” He shrugged, both calloused hands cupping your face now.
“It may have been in the back of my mind.”
The next day you walked beside Anakin, Qui Gonn and your new lover.
“How are Y/N’s studies going?” Qui Gonn asked. You brushed the hidden marks left on your stomach. Obi-Wan stumbled on his words.
“She’s doing very good,” he finally managed.
“Is she pleasing you?” he asked. You choked on your saliva and Obi-Wan pushed you forward with a hand on your back.
“She is pleasing my standards for her training.” You rolled your eyes and continues forward. As you reached a sparring room, Qui Gonn and Anakin stopped, said their goodbyes and let the two of you move to the next one.
You jumped together, his arm on your back still and your head leaning back, laughing.
Qui Gonn let out a sigh and looked at his new padawan.
“I told you he loved her too,” he voiced. Anakin nodded.
“I apologize master. I never should have doubted you.”

Series index
“You brought a hunter back?!”
Seokjin was furious. Namjoon held out his hands placatingly, but Taehyung flinched back, never having seen Jin that angry before, and tried to hide behind the older man.
“Jin-hyung, it was an emergency,” Namjoon tried to explain.
“Taehyung trying to drain someone when he knows he’s not supposed to is not an emergency, and you all know that hunters are off-limits! Are you trying to start a bloodbath?”
Taehyung sulked. “They’d lose anyway,” he said petulantly.
“Not. The. Point.” Jin scowled.
“Jin-hyung, she smells like Minhee did,” Namjoon interjected, trying to head off what was sure to be a lengthy lecture from Jin about obeying the rules and respecting his elders. They really didn’t have time for it, and besides, Taehyung had heard it about a million times already.
“Yah, you can’t abduct someone just because they remind you of – ”
“No, hyung, she doesn’t smell similar to her, she smells exactly like her.”
That left the older man speechless for a while, but he’d just opened his mouth to respond when Namjoon added, “And both Tae and I reacted.”
Taehyung, watching the terse exchange, piped up. “Who’s Minhee?” he asked curiously, and Namjoon rolled his shoulders awkwardly. They mostly avoided talking about her, out of respect for Hoseok’s feelings, so the younger boys didn’t know about her.
“Uh, she was Hoseok’s mate,” Jin explained shortly.
“What? Hoseok-hyung doesn’t have a mate,” Taehyung said, confused. His brow furrowed.
“He doesn’t now,” Namjoon muttered, and that was enough to shut the younger vampire up, even though he had more questions than ever.
Jin sighed. “I suppose what’s done is done. Where is she? If she hasn’t woken up yet, we can just leave her back where we found her and she’ll be none the wiser.”
“Wait, hyung, you’re still not convinced? There’s something fishy going on here! We shouldn’t both feel the pull to Hoseok’s mate!”
“Yeah, I don’t want her to leave,” Taehyung objected, remembering again how good you smelled. He’d mistaken the reaction initially for bloodlust, especially since it was clear that you were a hunter from the fucking rifle strapped to your back, but after witnessing how small and vulnerable you’d looked unconscious, his heart had squeezed and suddenly he wanted to protect you from the big bad world.
Your blood still smelled like nothing else to him, of course, but his desire to drain you dry was now tempered by these newfound instincts to protect you. He knew from the lore what that meant – you were his mate. Only now he was being told that you were, apparently, Hoseok’s mate, and it was all very confusing for him.
“Fine, let’s go and see her. Where did you leave her?” Seokjin stood up with a sigh, resting his hands on his desk.
“With Jungkook. He’s watching her.”
You came to slowly, your head pounding as you squinted against the dim lighting in the room. You stared up at the ceiling for a moment, idly trying to put the pieces back together, when it came rushing back to you and you leapt up, already in a fighting stance, reaching for the gun on your hip – which was, of course, not there.
“Oh, you’re awake!” came from the side of the room, and you whipped around, reaching for first your thigh holster – which wasn’t there either, and then the knives in your boots – only to realize that you were barefoot.
“Who the fuck are you?!” you demanded a little wildly at the man – boy? – sitting in a cozy-looking chair against the wall.
“Woah, hey, I’m not going to hurt you,” he said, holding his hands out placatingly. “Can you sit down, please? You seem kind of pale to be getting up like that.”
You squinted at him, although you couldn’t see that well in the dim light. The way his eyes gleamed at you, though, was enough to let you know that he wasn’t human, and that let you know that you weren’t safe. You didn’t know where you were, or what was going on, but hell if you were going down without a fight.
“Hey, come on, I swear I won’t hurt you. I won’t even get up from my seat, okay? Please go lie down,” he begged.
You narrowed your eyes at him. What kind of trick was this? “You’re waiting for me to let my guard down before you attack,” you sneered at him. “Do you think I’m stupid? Where the fuck is all my stuff?”
He rolled his eyes then, the picture of nonchalance. “All your weapons,” he said, “are on the table over there. Now do you believe I’m not going to hurt you? I wouldn’t have left them in plain sight if I was really keen on draining you,” he pointed out reasonably.
He had a point, so you walked over to the table, still scowling, and started checking your weapons to make sure they hadn’t been tampered with. Once that was done, you strapped your waist and thigh holsters back on, then stepped into your boots.
“Um,” he sounded panicked now, “you aren’t actually going to leave, are you?”
You ignored his question, shrugging into your jacket instead, then picking up your rifle. “Don’t follow me,” you instructed before making your way to the door.
As luck would have it, however, right before your hand touched the doorknob, the door swung inwards towards you, hitting you square in the face.
“Argh, fuck,” you swore, rearing back, your hands going to your face.
“Shit, shit, shit, shit, are you okay, miss?” The man sitting in the room leapt up and hurried to you. Though your vision was blurry with tears, once he got close enough you saw that he was mind-numbingly gorgeous, with big doe eyes that looked frantic. He looked like he was going to touch you, but then thought better of it as you stepped away from him, glaring as best you could.
“Jesus, good going, Tae,” one of the new entrants to the room snickered. They started bickering quietly, but you were a little distracted by the excruciating pain in your nose. You sniffled, still holding it, hoping against hope that it wouldn’t bleed while you were in a room full of vampires.
A second later, all of them snapped to attention and you sighed inwardly. Of course this had to happen right as you were about to leave.
“Wow, you weren’t kidding,” the vampire who’d made the snarky remark earlier said quietly. All of them just stood there watching you like idiots while you frantically tried to pinch your nose and tilt your head back to stem the bleeding, until finally you couldn’t take it anymore and screamed, “Jesus fuck, will someone get some tissues and ice or something?!”
That sent them scurrying into action, Jungkook rushing to get tissues from his bedside table while Taehyung ran down to the kitchen to get something cold for you to put on your face. You sat down on the edge of the bed and Jungkook hesitantly placed the box right beside you, before retreating a safe distance away. He was holding his breath to avoid the smell of your blood, and he stared frantically at Namjoon and Seokjin, who looked like they’d been struck dumb, their mouths hanging open as they tried to come to terms with what was happening.
Breaking the awkward silence that fell over the room as they just watched you stuff tissues up your nose, Taehyung burst in carrying a frozen pack. “Here, put this on your face,” he said gently as he handed it to you, squatting in front of you.
With a garbled thank you, you took it from him and held it over your nose. The pain started subsiding and you sighed in relief, but as the pain ebbed your mental faculties returned and you started looking around the room.
“Why am I here?” you asked. Since they hadn’t taken advantage of your weakened state earlier to attack, you felt a little more at ease, and ready to find out what they wanted with you.
That is, until you lowered the ice pack that the vampire currently looking up at you in concern had passed to you, and examined it properly for the first time.
“Christ, is this a frozen blood pack?!” you exclaimed in disgust. You didn’t think you were a squeamish person, by any means – you were basically a certified EMT at this point after all the training you’d had patching yourself and the other hunters up – but this was a different kind of gross.
“Um, yes, we don’t really keep ice or frozen peas around,” the vampire explained sheepishly.
“Oh, I see,” you hummed awkwardly, looking up from the blood pack in your lap to him. In the dim lighting, you could see that he too was extraordinarily handsome, with a narrow nose and a piercing stare. Wait a minute. You stared a little harder, your brow furrowing in recognition.
Then you scrambled back, reaching again for your gun. “It’s you!” you cried out, pointing it once more at his forehead.
His eyes widened in panic as he raised his hands in the air. “Hey, no, no, please,” he tried to calm you down. “Come on, I got you an ice pack and I’ve just been sitting here, don’t I deserve a little trust?”
“You tried to kill me in an alley,” you gritted out, unable to believe the gall of this man.
“Well, so did you!” he exclaimed defensively, pouting.
“Yeah, out of self-defense!”
“You would have done it even if I hadn’t attacked you!”
“Yes, because if you hadn’t attacked me it would have been someone else! I’m supposed to protect humans from scum like you!”
“Hey, that’s not nice,” he protested, and you felt the strangest urge to apologize and comfort him. Damn these vampires for looking so good. It was messing with your head – the vampires you’d seen before had always looked slightly wild and pale, with enormous fangs that they couldn’t hide and bright red eyes that were glassy and unfocused. The only thing that tipped you off to the fact that these men were the same breed was their eyes, although they were a darker, almost wine colour that could probably pass for brown in the right lighting.
They only flashed crimson when they were hunting, and you had vivid memories of this particular vampire’s eyes flashing red in the darkness as he hurtled towards you. The memory kept any guilt at bay. “Trying to drain me wasn’t nice either,” you countered.
Namjoon, sensing that Taehyung was getting nowhere, cleared his throat. You looked up at him, although your gun remained pointed at Taehyung.
“Please put your weapon away. None of us are going to hurt you, and I’m sure you have some questions that we’re prepared to answer.” You had no way of knowing how safe you were – all four of the boys had somehow bonded to you, and were now willing to die to protect you – but you were curious about where you were and who they were, so you slowly brought your gun down, resting it against the bed, although your fingers were still curled around it, ready to take fire and aim at a moment’s notice.
“All right,” you started, swallowing hard. “For starters, where am I?”
“At our house,” Namjoon said, and you raised a brow at him. Such non-answers were not part of the deal. Your fingers tightened slightly on the gun.
“Jesus, will you be patient?” he huffed. “As I was saying, this is the compound where my brothers and I live. There are seven of us in total.”
You nodded, accepting his answer for now. “Why did you bring me back here?”
Namjoon hesitated. This was a more difficult question. Based on your hostility towards them – and the idea of vampires in general – he was pretty sure you wouldn’t react well to knowing what was actually going on, especially since they didn’t have any satisfactory answers for you, and he didn’t really want to be shot. Vampire or not, getting your brains blown out wasn’t exactly something you could heal.
“Well…” he started carefully, “We sensed something different about you.”
You nodded, motioning for him to continue. “It’s difficult to put into words,” because the words were that she was their mate, “but suffice it to say that we think it’s best for you to stay here while we figure it all out.”
“Stay here? You mean as a hostage? What the fuck – ”
“No, no, no, no,” he cut you off hastily. “You would be our honoured guest.”
“Your honoured guest?! Are you absolutely insane – ”
Seokjin lost his patience at your continued intransigence and stood up. “Call it what you will. You’re not leaving.” Then he stood up and walked out of the room. It seemed to be a sign; you looked on in wide-eyed confusion as all of them followed suit, the one who’d been squatting in front of you throwing you a forlorn look as he went.
You heard the sound of a lock falling into place and screeched in frustration, running to slam your fists against the door. “Are you crazy? You can’t just keep me here! Let me out!” you screamed, violently pounding the door and turning the door handle over and over again, to no avail, of course.
“Well, that went well,” Namjoon deadpanned as they regrouped back in Jin’s study.
“Shut up, Joon,” Jin bitched from his usual seat behind the desk. Namjoon was seated on one of the chairs placed on the other side of the desk, his feet on the other, and Taehyung and Jungkook were leaning on each other on the couch against the wall behind Namjoon.
“She smells nice,” Jungkook said, smiling dreamily down at his hands in his lap. He’d known, of course, what it would feel like when he found his mate, but hearing descriptions of what it would feel like was very different from actually experiencing it.
Namjoon, who had been soft for Jungkook since the day he met him, just smiled indulgently at him. “At least you reacted better than Tae did.”
“Hey, I was hungry and I didn’t realize who she was when I first scented her,” Taehyung whined in protest.
“You didn’t know?!” Jungkook sounded scandalized.
Taehyung scowled. “Sorry I’m not good at everything like you,” he shot back defensively.
Jungkook didn’t even respond to the barb. “I’m glad you found her, though. Thank you, hyung,” he said, going in for a hug at the same time. Begrudgingly, Taehyung hugged him back.
“Don’t be so quick to thank him; the reason she’s scared out of her mind of us is because Tae tried to drain her,” Namjoon added drolly.
“Hyung!” “I didn’t know!” Both boys yelled out in unison.
Jimin, with impeccable timing, wandered into the room with wide eyes. “Hey, did you guys know that there’s a girl screaming bloody murder inside Kookie’s room?”
“Ah, yes, welcome, Chim,” Seokjin said, rubbing his temples with his fingers. “That girl happens to be our mate.”
“Oh, you found your – wait, ‘our’?” Jimin, who’d started out with a sanguine smile as he congratulated his brother, did an almost comical double take, as if he couldn’t believe what he’d heard. Which was a rather large possibility, actually. None of them, not even Namjoon with his huge library, had ever come across any mention of two vampires having the same mate. Even finding your mate was an exceedingly rare occurrence, and only born vampires had them.
“Yeah, surprise,” Namjoon said, grimacing. “You know what, why don’t you go meet her too – with our luck, she’ll probably be your mate as well.”
“Sure, who’s more lucky, her or us?” Taehyung deadpanned, and Jungkook laughed, because it was true. All the known born vampires left were living under this roof, and more than half of them were mated to the same girl. Who happened to be a hunter who was likely to blow their brains out at any one moment. Go figure.
Jimin, seeing that his two younger brothers were sitting on the couch, went to join them, nudging Taehyung aside until he made room for the smaller man. “What’s your mate like?” he asked, leaning on Taehyung and resting his head on his shoulder.
"She's the cutest," Taehyung sighed beatifically. "She's a hunter, and she wears all leather, and she tried to shoot my brains out."
Jimin hesitated. "Uhhh... that sounds... nice?"
"She's pretty when she's unconscious," Jungkook added.
"Right..." Jimin said, sounding even more unsure now. "She sounds... really cool..."
"She's smart, too," Namjoon added, eager now to start talking about his mate. Even though you hadn't talked much, he was still taken with you.
Seokjin stayed silent, because unfortunately, he didn't have much to share, having only snapped that one sentence to you and storming out right after. He didn't think you'd even so much as looked at him directly. Instead, he sulked quietly, having nothing to add to the conversation. This was so not how he’d envisioned meeting his mate.
“Yah, who did you trap in the house? She’s making a racket loud enough to raise the dead,” Yoongi strolled into the room, scowling. Seokjin dropped his head on the table, groaning, and Namjoon leaned over to pat him on the shoulder.
Once the situation had been explained to him too, Seokjin finally raised his head from where he’d been softly hitting it against the wood of his desk.
“You okay there, hyung?” Yoongi asked sardonically, a raised brow conveying his thoughts on the situation perfectly.
“Fuck off,” Seokjin grumbled. “Everybody get out, I have work to do.”
“What are you working on?” Jimin piped up curiously.
“I need to write to the Guild to figure this situation out,” Jin sighed, already getting his nice paper out of the drawer. “Tempting though it may seem, we can’t just kidnap a hunter and hope for the best.”
“Jesus, why don’t you just send a bloody email, hyung?” Jungkook scoffed.
Jin scowled. “Out!” he yelled, that vein in his forehead throbbing, and everyone laughed as they filed out of the room.
You’d screamed yourself hoarse, banging on the door and yelling threats and profanities until you couldn’t anymore, before you realized that this likely wasn’t the best way to get yourself out, if everyone in the house was in on this plan of keeping you locked here.
Then you started plotting how to get out. The door appeared to be made of sturdy wood, but you tried hurling yourself against it a couple times anyway, just to be sure. That got you nothing but an achy shoulder, and what you were sure would be a hell of a bruise in a few hours.
Since that was clearly not going to work, you started examining the lock. If it had been a traditional lock, you might have been able to jimmy it open with your knife or a hairpin, but it was one of those newfangled digital locks without even a keyhole, and you snarled in frustration. It wasn’t even one that had a code, which would have been irritating but you’d have gotten it at some point, but one that needed a fingerprint.
“God fucking damn it,” you swore as you knelt in front of the door to examine the lock up close. Would it be possible to shoot the lock off the door? After peering at it from all angles, you decided that it would be too risky. If you broke the mechanism while the door was locked, it might just jam the door shut altogether.
You stood up and took a step back, chewing on your bottom lip in concentration. There had to be a way to get out of this damn room. You glanced around, trying to see if there was a window or something you could jimmy open. There was a large one, and you went over to it, examining it to see if it would open. Maybe you could shatter the glass…?
A closer look and a rap of your knuckles against the glass told you that wouldn’t be possible. Seriously, who the fuck uses bulletproof glass in their windows? Maybe you could pick the lock on the window?
You were just about to shoot the hinges off the door – thankfully, although you hadn’t thought so earlier, the door opened inward, so the hinges were inside the room – when it opened.
“Woah, hey there,” yet another unknown vampire greeted, his hands in the air as he caught sight of the gun in your hands.
“Jesus Christ, not this again,” you muttered, but put your gun away reluctantly.
“Wow, they weren’t kidding,” the vampire marveled, staring straight at you.
“What the hell are you looking at?” you snapped irritably, and he snapped back to attention.
“Right…” he muttered under his breath. “Hi, I’m Jimin, and you are?” he asked brightly.
You eyed him suspiciously. “Y/N,” you offered finally.
“Well, Y/N, I’m here to apologize on behalf of my brothers, and ask if you needed anything for your stay. Food, water?”
“Freedom, maybe?” you asked dryly.
He winced. “Um, yeah, we’re working on that…” he said, rubbing the back of his neck awkwardly.
“Well, can I at least know why I’m being forced to stay here?” you asked with resignation, going to sit on the edge of the bed.
“We’re kind of working on that too…” he trailed off, unsure of what he was actually allowed to tell you. Now that he knew you was his mate as well, things were getting really confusing and weird and you looked freaked out enough about the whole situation as it was.
“Sure, that tracks,” you muttered under your breath, but with his enhanced hearing he picked it up perfectly.
“Really, we can get you anything you want – just let us know,” Jimin offered, your obvious misery making him feel bad. “I’ll get you something to eat, okay? Just hang on.”
“It’s not like I have a choice, do I?” you asked. “You know that hunters are going to be crawling all over this place soon, right? You’re going to have an all-out war on your hands if you don’t let me go like, yesterday.”
Jimin grimaced. “Just hang tight,” he said, before making his speedy escape. His mate might be gorgeous and smell better than anything he’d ever encountered, but she was a little scary.

Crossing Parallel Lines- Sam Winchester x Reader: Chapter 11
******WARNING: The following may be a trigger to some readers! Please, read the author’s note and proceed with caution!********
A/N: Hello! Yes, I FINALLY updated this series since April! I know, it’s been a long time but I wanted this to be perfect. This was a hard chapter to write because I wrote about my own diagnosis and battle with anxiety. I wish I actually had Sam to be here for me when the battles get to be too much but I hope this brings comfort to anyone who is fighting mental illness. Please, get some help for yourself. I know it’s hard and it’s scary not knowing exactly what you’re feeling but it will be the best decision you ever make. I don’t like admitting I need help but I’m so glad I did it. This is how I cope, talking about it, but please don’t feel pressured.
Warnings: Angst, anxiety, panic attacks, mentions of medications, scary thoughts, slight mention of sex but no details, protective!Sam, fluff
Word Count: 2,767
Sam’s POV
When I sent y/n back to her universe, I ultimately thought that was the best decision for both of us. I know her life was less than perfect back home, but I knew she had a life. She has a job and a cat and a best friend so I figured she needed to go back to that lifestyle. That we would be able to follow the rules of the spell easily. We would have to wait an entire month until we could use the spell and see one another again and the week would be just enough time to be able to feel satisfied until the next reunion, but I was wrong. God was I wrong. At first, it was easy. Our first spell was magical, literally! Having y/n back in the Bunker was what we both needed; it had been too long. We spent every waking moment together and even when we slept, we were next to each other. But the week went by too fast and we had the agonizing task of having to say goodbye again and wait another month until we could be around each other. After nearly five months of doing this, I concluded that enough is enough!
“Hey, Dean,” I say, walking into his ‘Dean cave’ and interrupting what he was watching.
“Not now Sammy, the good stuff is on,” he says not even bothering to look at me. I turn behind me and see he’s watching porn, again, and I groan in frustration.
“Ah, Dean! Come on man, it’s 10 a.m.!” I roll my eyes as Dean proceeds to fight his point.
“That may be, but this stuff is always on, dude,” Dean argues back but I won’t let this stop my plans. Reaching over to grab the remote from off the armrest of the couch, I press the power button, and the screen went black.”
“Hey! Why did you do that?” Dean whines like a child to me.
“Because I need your help with something,” I start my case but am quickly interrupted.
“Look, Sam, whatever it is, it can wait,” Dean explains and reaches for the remote again.
“It’s about y/n!” I yell, causing my older brother to freeze.
“What about her? Is she okay?” Panic begins to flood Dean’s mind, it’s written all over his face, so I quickly settle his nerves.
“No, yeah, she’s fine, it’s just…I need her here man.”
“But it’s only been two weeks since you saw her last,” adds Dean, but I counter back.
“I know but it’s too long, Dean. I need her here, with me, all the time. I love her way too much to only see her once a month. I worry that she’s hurt or she’s sad and there isn’t anything I can do for her. I cannot physically be there for her and it’s killing me. She needs me, Dean. Especially right now.” I finish my small speech before Dean continues the discussion.
“What do you mean, especially now? Sam, you said she was okay but that doesn’t sound good. What’s wrong with y/n?!”
“It’s her head, Dean.”
“Her head?”
“Yeah, she has anxiety. She was just diagnosed not that long ago and it’s affecting her head. The medicine she takes, it really messes with her head and it causes panic attacks. She hasn’t been able to do much for the last 24 hours because her body is trying to keep up with the meds. And she’s scared, Dean. The meds are going to help her soon but she’s still in the introductory period and it’s being really hard on her. I-I need to be there with her. She needs me, Dean, and I’m no good if I’m stuck here.” I say, telling the truth about what y/n is going through.
“Whoa, I uh, I had no idea she was going through all that,” he said, rubbing the back of his neck, just as sadden and surprised by the realization too.
“I didn’t either until I talked to her yesterday when she first got the medication. The doctor did a test on her, a survey really, and she rated how she was feeling on a scale of like 1 to 5, and out of twenty points, she scored 14. It’s pretty serious, man,” I say, holding back my tears that threatened to spill over. This was not the time for me to be emotional but to be strong for the woman I love. “She has no one else to help her through this, I need to be there.”
“But you can’t go there now, Sam. The lore specifically said it has to be every month and it’s only been two weeks,” Dean tells me the rules of the spell once more.
“Yeah, I know that Dean, but this is serious! My girlfriend is suffering through mental health issues and literally has no one else she can turn to. Callie went out of town with her family; I’m all y/n has!” I yell and that’s when my tears fled from my eyes. Without uttering a word, Dean walked over and hugged me. He could feel the sobs racking throughout my body and he knew this was important to me.
“Alright man, we’ll talk to Rowena. See if we can’t find another way around this spell. Hey, we found a way for you two to cross between two universes, I’m sure we can find a loophole so you can see her sooner,” Dean told me when I finally settled down.
“You think so?” I ask, sniffling back any more tears, wiping my jacket sleeve over my nose.
“Sure, I do. Come on Sammy, there’s nothing more powerful than love, right? I mean, I haven’t been in love with anyone in a really long time, but I do remember what it was like. And I know for damn sure, nothing would keep me from protecting that girl. So, now that you’re the one in love, and y/n has become like family to both of us, I don’t see why we can’t fight for her.”
“Thanks, Dean,” I say, a small string of hope suddenly washed over me, but it was enough to make me want to do this.
“I’ll call Rowena, you call y/n. Check-in on her and tell her I said hi too,” I nod to Dean as he walks into the next room.
I reach in my back pocket and pull out my phone. Pressing the power button, the screen lights up to show the first picture y/n and I took as a couple. She’s smiling so wide; her little cheekbones look like they might pop. I remember I had starting tickling her after she confessed how ticklish she was.
“No, no, Sam….don't you dare,” Y/N says, looking at my face as she slowly starts backing away from me.
“You know, babe, you really shouldn’t have told me you were ticklish. I am going to take advantage of this newfound information, I hope you know,” I tell her, growing increasingly closer to her.
“Sam, I’m telling you, stay away,” she says, still backing away from me, a devilish grin etched on my face. She was smiling at me too, knowing full well what she was getting into. She turned and began to run from me, but, being significantly taller than her, she didn’t get too far before I caught up to her, scooping her up in my arms and immediately tickling her. She squealed and laughed uncontrollably, as my fingers ran all over her stomach.
“SAM!” She screamed/laughed but I didn’t show any signs of slowing down, that is until she cried out that she couldn’t breathe.
“I told you, you shouldn’t have told me that,” I say as I bring into my side.
“I know but I want us to be fully open with each other. If this relationship is going to work, we have to tell each other everything, even if that means we have to suffer through something,” She threatening raised an eyebrow at me, showing off her attitude.
“What? That was worth it, seeing you laugh that hard was adorable. I mean, you were totally crying!”
She faked being angry with me until I turned her around and forced her to look up at me.
“That is a side of you I hope I always get to see,” I say and lean down to kiss her. When we broke apart, she brought out her phone and wanted to snap a selfie. She smiled her wide, beautiful smile, as I looked at her lovingly, and she took the picture.
I clicked on her name and put the phone to my ear. It began ringing and I held my breath. Come on baby, pick up. Please, pick up.
“Sam.” She spoke my name and I could tell she had just been crying.
“Hi baby, are you okay? You sound like you had been crying,” I spoke in the softest tone I could, knowing just how fragile she was, and she began crying again.
“I h-have been. I-I-I j-just miss you. I-I n-need y-you,” she cried into the phone, my heartbreaking as she did so.
“Oh baby, I’m so sorry I’m not there right now, but I promise, I’m coming, okay? Please baby, be strong for me, okay? Just hold on a little longer. We’re working on a way for me to come see you sooner. My beautiful girl, please hang in there. I’m coming, I will be there with you soon.” I spoke, holding my composure together. I knew that if I didn’t it would only make things harder on her, and I couldn’t do that to her. I needed to help her, not make things worse.
“I-I l-love y-you, Sammy,” she mutters out, and then, I hear the phone drop.
“Y/N?! Baby?! DEAN!” I hear the silence on the other end and knew she wasn’t there. As fast I could, I jump up and run into the kitchen, where Dean was helping Rowena mix up a concoction of God knows what.
“What happened, Sam?” Dean asks, taking in my distraught look.
“It’s y/n, the line dropped. Oh my God, Dean, what if she’s trying to hurt herself or worse, kill herself?” I panic pace around the room.
“Sam, you need to calm down. You don’t know that. It’s y/n, she wouldn’t take her own life. She loves you too much,” Dean says, trying to rationalize with me.
“But that was it, Dean, she told me she loved me and then the line dropped,” I argue back and before Dean could put in a rebuttal, Rowena stepped in.
“Here Samuel, drink this quick. You don’t have a lot of time! You only have a thirty-second window to take this before we’d have to make this again,” I downed the drink before she even finished explaining.
We all sat and waited, time seemingly dragging on, before a blinding light enclosed around me, temporarily knocking me out. When I finally came too, I slowly stood up and saw y/n’s house before me. It worked. I said a thank you to Castiel, not even sure if he was listening, and ran up to the house. Jingling the doorknob, it was locked. Damnit, y/n, you just have to be safe right now. Quick on my feet, I grab my tool and begin picking the lock, soon opening the door. I run inside and back to the far right of the apartment, where y/n’s bedroom was.
“Y/N?! Where are you, baby?!” I yell, scanning the room for any sight of her but it was empty.
“Y/N?!” I yell again and heard an ‘ow!’ followed by some banging coming from the kitchen. I dart out of the room into the living room, where she ended up walking out into. She must’ve been baking; her face and hair were covered in flour.
“Sam!” She yells, and rushes over to me, jumping up and wrapping her smaller frame around me.
“Y/N, you’re okay!” I say, my heart rate beginning to slow when I noticed she wasn’t in immediate danger.
“Yeah, I’m okay. I mean, I’ve been sad a lot lately, but I’m okay,” she had pulled back to look at me.
She probably knew I was a wreck, pushing hair out of my face, and placing her hand on my cheek. I melt into her touch, not realizing just how much I craved it. I looked in her eyes, seeing just how red and swollen they were from crying, but she was smiling now. And without wasting any more time, I push my lips on hers, eagerly showing her just how much I missed her. She kissed me back with as much desperation as I had, surprising me that she had the energy to keep up with me. My lips find their way to her neck, kissing and gently biting the skin there, leaving my mark on her. A little moan escaped past her lips and I took advantage of that, by kissing her lips once more, my tongue pushing its way into her mouth. I could feel and taste every part of her mouth, but that wasn’t enough. Backing up to her room, I push the door open, careful not to break the kiss with her, and guided us to her bed. She falls back and temporarily breaks out kiss so she could lift her shirt over her head. My eyes quickly scan over her half-exposed body before she brings me back into a kiss. My hands roam over her chest as I felt dizzy with each touch. I knew this was something we both have wanted for a long time but I wasn’t sure this was the time for it.
“Wait, are you sure you want to do this tonight? I mean, you’ve been so upset the last two days,” I say as I take in the sight of a sad girl before me.
“Yes, I have, but I need to start feeling better and the only way I can think of, is being with you. You told me in the letter when you sent me back here, that you wanted to make love to me. I want you to make love to me tonight, Sam,” she said without an ounce of doubt in her voice. I attach my lips to hers once again, and I follow through with my promise.
When we settled back down for the night, I brought her as close to me as humanly possible and had her talk to me. She told me about everything she was feeling, why she felt like she needed to be put on medicine, and all the demons she was fighting in her head.
“My sweet girl, I am so sorry. I didn’t know you were fighting this,” I admit, trying to look at her in the darkness.
“How could you? You weren’t here when my symptoms really came to ahead. I mean, as I’ve done more research, I’ve noticed things in me that I used to feel like a kid, too, so I guess I’ve always had it. I just didn’t know what to do about it, or how to express how I was feeling. It wasn’t common when I was growing up but I’m getting help for it. And now, I have you and Dean, and Cas, to talk to, I hope.”
“Of course, you have us to talk to. We don’t want you to fight this alone. Please come and talk to us, whenever you feel yourself going into a panic attack, or even if you just feel sad, come get me. If it’s three in the morning, wake me up. I’ll drop anything and listen to you; you’re not alone,” I say, kissing her forehead, as she snuggled up against me.
“Thank you, Sam. I’m glad you’re with me for this. I don’t know how I’m going to be in the next few weeks, but I’m sorry in advance,” she says.
“You have nothing to be sorry about, y/n. You have an invisible war going on in your head; you just need help dealing with it. I will come right alongside you and will fight your battles with you. I love you so much, baby girl,” I say, taking her hand in mine and encouraging her to try and sleep. I can only imagine she hasn’t been able to get too much rest with all the new things going on with her. But no matter what may happen, I will be committed to helping her through every hard time. She was that important to me.

Fanfic writer's director's commentary! Thanks to @candycoloredwolf for the ask! I chose to talk about my first panchulien oneshot 'Wanna Dance?'. I wrote it in a single night on impulse so there's a few grammar mistakes and other stuff I noticed upon revisiting it.
I probably went way overboard on my commentary (oops) but it was so much fun going through it all. I hope this is entertaining.
.............
*the crocodile ambassador gave him an unusually soft smile.*
After everything that's happened in the show, I feel like the croc ambassador would have warmed up to Julien quite a bit and come to respect him as a leader. Also he's trying to butter Julien up before complaining about one of his subjects.
*provided they were on their best behaviour. It had said on the invitation that it was a 'sophisticated' event, so Maurice had managed to wrangle all of the lemurs into formal wear, and everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves, dancing in pairs to the soft music*
Man, I just love it when characters dress up in fancy outfits and go dancing together (like in the prom episode). One of my favourite tropes in fact, so I just had to throw it in there!
*but still all this fancy partnered dancing wasn't entirely to the ringtail's taste.*
As much as I like the formal dancing stuff, it wouldn't be something Julien would enjoy, so he's already looking for an excuse to bounce and throw his own afterparty. He's only stayed so far to try and be polite and improve relations between their kingdoms or something else that Maurice told him to do.
*Clover, Sage and the rest of the mountain lemur kingdom was there, and the king and queen were happily sharing a waltz. Maurice was dancing with his sister while Prince Brodney was teaching their children the steps*
This takes place after the show's finale, but without the inclusion of the zoosters, so sort of like a parallel universe? Where Julien and Clover are monarchs together, which I think is neat. Also People tend to forget that Maurice has a sister, myself included really, and I kinda wish they'd had more cute bonding moments, so I gave then a brother/sister dance.
*even Pancho was leaning against a tree*
Aside from the main squad (excluding Mort of course) Pancho is the only minor lemur that Julien really mentions here. Almost like he was looking for him specifically. Hmmm....
*He caught Julien's eye and winked. Julien chuckled fondly.*
Casual flirt.
*"I do have a minor issue with the behaviour of one of your, ahem, subjects*
That little cough just feels like something the croc ambassador would do when he's embarrassed, or to sound authoritative, so he did.
*Julien tore his eyes away from Pancho*
"Tore his eyes away" almost like he didnt want to look away. Hmmm...
*The anxious lemur was currently giggling as he twirled his new boyfriend around*
Ah, I just want Willie to be happy and have a good time with his bf. He deserves to laugh more. New boyfriend infers that they're in the early stages of their relationship, so they're just messing around being silly and cute and having fun together.
*but Horst and Mary Ann weren't doing much better.*
Horst and Mary Ann deserve a nice romantic dance. It would be pretty awkward because she's twice his size and can only really walk on all fours, but they don't even care. They just cut their own path through the dance floor and ignore everyone else, no matter how annoyed the other dancers are because they keep getting in the way.
*"Well, they're both males!" He said. "It's completely unnatural, wouldn't you agree?"*
Oof, the croc ambassador wants that snooty monarch solidarity with Julien since he's the most popular king in Madagascar, but that ain't happening any time soon. Not with that attitude!
*Julien was lost for words. He had known ever since he was young that he liked boys. Every male in the kingdom liked boys! In fact, it was considered a little unusual if you WEREN'T interested in the same gender.*
I like the idea that homosexuality is just the norm in the party kingdom, kinda like She-Ra. People are just gay and nobody thinks anything of it and coming out is celebrated. Julien doesn't care if you're gay or straight though, he just cares for his peeps and wants them to love who they love.
*whatever their genders were*
A subtle difference between Julien and the croc ambassador, Julien says 'genders' while croc ambassador says 'sexes' because Julien is more open to the idea of gender not being confined to biology.
*Julien took a few deep breaths and tried desperately to not get angry.
"What's the problem man, they're just dancing." He remarked in what he hoped was a neutral tone.*
Julien tries to keep his cool here, a bit of his character development showing. He now knows that everything doesnt have to be a scene, so keeps his temper. It's also kind of to protect Willie and his partner though. He knows they're having a good time and he doesn't want to bring to their attention that their host doesn't like what they're doing, because he knows they'll be upset.
*"rather not have it ruined by such atrocities being committed!"*
And this was the point where I started to hate the croc ambassador too while writing.
*"Oh, hey Julio." Pancho smiled at him. "I was just gonna-"*
Pancho was just gonna say that he was bored with the party and wanted to leave. He would have asked if Julien wanted to come with (he could tell Julio was getting bored and he couldn't have THAT), which would have been a different fanfiction entirely.
*"Wanna dance?" Julien said.*
I honestly can't remember if I thought of the title or this line first.
*He considered sticking his tongue out at the reptile's back, but ultimately decided that such a juvenile display wasn't the best way to get his point across.*
Again, character development. Julien has matured (a little) and realised that there are better, more fulfilling ways of getting revenge.
*"OK." Pancho said with a shrug, and slid his paw over to Julien's waist,*
Once Pancho can mentally catch up with what's going on, he rolls with it. In fact, he sorta likes the idea of dancing with Julien, and had been trying to gather the courage to ask him for most of the night. I wonder why...
*As they danced though, he began to feel his attention drawn to a different place: how smooth Pancho was on the dance floor,*
We all know Julien's attention span is not great, so there's no way he's going to be able to stay angry when he's too busy being distracted by Pancho's smoothness.
*He raised an eyebrow. "You just couldn't resist?"*
Not entirely subtle flirt.
*"But you know, you're not a bad pick." He patted Pancho on the arm.*
Not entirely subtle either flirt.
*"Abner over there's been missing steps and stumbling all night!" He glanced over at Abner and his wife with a small frown.*
Poor Abner, he's the one getting picked on tonight. Bit of a running gag here.
*Pancho's eyes widened and he instinctively pulled Julien closer, whether it was to shield him or to further prove the point, Julien couldn't tell, but the ringtail wasn't complaining.*
Pancho does pull Julien closer on instinct to protect him, he knows how badly homophobia would hurt Julien's feelings. Julien is just loving it though. He was more angry for Willie's sake than hurt anyways.
*"But us lemurs dance with guys all the time!" Pancho exclaimed. "I've seen you kiss four different guys at a party once! What's his problem?"
"That's what I'm saying, wait I did what?"*
Even if they weren't a couple, dancing together is just something the males would do. They're that casual. And of course Julien would go around kissing everybody at his parties when he gets drunk enough. Poor Julien doesnt remember half of what he does at parties though.
*"Oh no, I don't mind." Pancho remarked, then cleared his throat awkwardly, looking away.*
Awkward silence much? Internally Pancho is just screaming *why did you say that?!" because he doesn't know how to handle his feelings right now, especially not with Julien so close.
(For any other ballroom dance enthusiasts, what they're dancing would be a mix between a waltz and a slow dance. Like a casual, less fancy waltz that's quite easy for them to get the hang of, but still quite romantic and personal).
*"You know Julio, I don't think he's gonna notice." Pancho remarked.*
But eventually Pancho plucks up the courage. They're already dancing, he tells himself. And Julien just wants to make the crocodile ambassador mad. Julien kisses people platonically all the time so he won't question it. If he doesnt like it, say you were doing it to piss off the crocodiles. And if he does like it... well...
*"Well, I had an idea." Pancho was avoiding his gaze again."*
He's still nervous of course, but he's made up his mind. It's all or nothing, baby!
*"Lay it on me." Julien said.*
And he does! Literally!
*And holy Sky Gods.*
I was tempted to have this line be 'holy crap' or 'holy sh*t' because that's what I would say idk but holy sky gods just works better for the show's lore, and allows the story to keep a G rating.
*All thoughts of spiting the crocodile ambassador had been fully driven from his mind*
Julien just gets so caught up in the moment, he's all "what crocodile ambassador?" he just wants to keep kissing.
*Julien stroked his paw through Pancho's soft fur and deepened their kiss.*
I imagine Pancho's fur would be very soft, he's always playing around with explosives so he's bound to get his fur burnt off every now and then, and it grows back softer.
This was the first time I wrote the lemurs kissing, so it's not the most explicit thing in the world. I probably couldn't write an explicit kiss scene to save my life though.
*"Hoo-ah." Pancho sighed softly.*
Hoo-ah" is exactly what Pancho would say after having his mind blown by a kiss like that. Just no thoughts, head Julien.
*"Yeah, crocodile ambassador certainly thinks so." Pancho said, a wild grin overcoming his face*
Heh heh, Pancho's happy because he just got to kiss his crush (and he liked it!) But also because he can see the croc ambassador is pissed and he loves the opportunity to mess.
*some looking angry, some looking intrigued*
Some of the crocs are intrigued because they've never been able to be open about who they are or experiment because of compulsory heterosexuality in their kingdom. Seeing two guys just being so open about their attraction to each other would definitely help them rethink things. They've never seen gay love expressed like this and it's new and exciting.
*Julien's face broke out into an ecstatic grin.
"Yeah that's right!" He called wildly. "I kissed a guy! At your party! Boom, I like kissing guys! Ha, suck on that loser! Woohoo!"*
Oh the sweet triumph of proving a point. This rant was a joy to write, it just feels very Julien.
*He grabbed Pancho's hand and held it up.*
Grab your boyfriend's hand, hold it aloft like a prize.
*"I'm like ninety percent sure Ted likes kissing guys!"*
Haha, poor Teddy needs to be extracted from the closet, pronto. Julien just has an excellent gaydar.
* and tucked a protective arm around his daughter's shoulders, turning her away from Julien.*
I imagine princess Amy would have some questions after this, questions which her father would definitley struggle to answer. If she really wants to find out what Pancho and Julien were doing, I imagine she'd visit the party kingdom alone, and the lemurs would be happy to answer her questions. Pancho and Julien may have ushered in a new era for the crocodile kingdom and their relationship with LGBT+.
*There came a cheer from the crowd of lemurs and they all began to head off the dance floor*
Of course the other lemurs go with Julien immediately, he's their king after all and the moment he suggests that someone might not be cool with their sexualities, they're ready to bounce.
*Clover and Sage at the front hand in hand,*
Clover and Sage would definitley be behind Julien 100%. The moment he declares that they're out of there, they just drop everything to leave with him.
*some mountain lemur ladies holding hands too.*
Mountain lemur lesbians? Anyone? I just think it's neat.
*"You read my mind, Julio."
Julien pulled Pancho towards him and tried to ignore how it felt like there was a little party going on in his stomach when Pancho called him that.*
Julien really likes that name! I see it as an affectionate nickname Pancho gave him that eventually just evolves into a pet name that makes Julien a little warm and fuzzy inside every time he hears it.
*Julien's heart leapt with joy to see Willie clutching his boyfriend's hands as they danced.*
Daaaww, Julien might pick on Willie but at the end of the day he likes to see him happy. He's glad they don't have to stay at a party where their dancing is scrutinised.
*Pancho rubbed the back of his neck awkwardly as they stood face to face. "I'm sorry about kissing you, I just-"*
Now that there's some distance between them, Pancho has had time to think and wonder "oh sheesh, what if I messed it up, what if he only felt like it was platonic" and he's now all embarrassed, poor leem. He's just a guy in love.
*He nodded, then cleared his throat in an attempt to get a grip on his emotions. "You know, um, while we were dancing*
And now we see Julien trying to hold it together, these two are just so precious and I can totally see them stumbling over their feelings like that.
*kissed Pancho on the forehead, giggling slightly at the other lemur's squeak of surprise.*
Pancho is the perfect height for affectionate forehead kisses, let's not forget it!
*Pancho and Julien headed onto the dancefloor together and moved their bodies to the beat.*
They would have spent the night together just dancing and vibing (and making out probably).
*Nobody there who gave them the stink-eye or who told them that they were wrong. They danced and had fun and kissed without a care in the world. Julien felt so happy that his kingdom was a place where he could kiss Pancho all he liked.*
Ah I really went to town on the "love is love" concept here, didn't I? Well, a theme is a theme.
Julien's just really happy at the place he's created. He's glad they can dance and kiss and all that jazz, and he did that, he created a kingdom free of prejudice. It's exactly how I can see the kingdom's relationship with LGBT+ going down, a place where they're all just happy to vibe and be themselves.

It took me forever just to sit down and write this. Not gonna lie I hit a rock straight up, but if yall just bear with me through this part at least we will be back to smooth sailing. It’s just been such a rough week with everything going on around the world. Let’s use this as an escape even if it is just for a little bit. I’m gonna start kinda having a certain day of the week when I release stuff, right now I am thinking maybe Tuesday and Friday? Still bouncing things off in my head, but that will give me a time frame and give yall a day when to expect something. Much love, and thank you to everyone that has started following this journey with me and has followed, liked, and reblogged! I don’t know what I would do without the support and I am loving the feedback and I am over the moon by what recognition I have gotten. It’s not big but every little thing makes me feel so special and I am so happy that I am getting to share a piece of me with all of yall!!!

Best Friends
Chapter 4
You 17, Sam 18, Dean 21
“He’s gone y/n,” Bobby said walking into the living room where you had taken up residence on the couch since you had gotten the call from John two days before. “He wouldn’t want you sulking around here like you are. He would want you to get up off this couch and at least go take a shower.” He popped the top on the beer he had in his hand and gave it to you.
“Uncle Bobby you know I don’t drink that stuff.” You said pushing it away. You wrapped the blanket around you tighter. “It just surprises me, ya know? Everything that man has fought in his life, every monster, creature, everything and the man dies in a freakin car accident.”
“Fate has a weird scene of humor sometimes. He was a good hunter, damn good brother, and a pretty ok father. He did raise a pretty smart girl if you ask me, course I don’t know where you got it from. Probably your mother’s side of the family along with her looks.” He said leaning back and pulling you to his chest. “I would love to tell you that it gets better, that the pain just slowly goes away until it’s not there anymore but it doesn’t. You just learn to get use to it. Some days are easier to get through than others, somedays it won’t even cross your mind, but you’re gonna have your bad days and on those days is when you’re gonna need to talk, let someone help.” He said kissing the top of your head and getting up to stretch. “But really, go take a shower, I think that your funk is starting to seep into the couch. Might have to burn it and get another one.”
“No! I like this couch. Its broken in just right. Besides a new couch would just throw the whole room off, we would have to paint, get all new furniture, probably throw away a lot of your junk. It just wouldn’t work out with a new one.” You got up and collected your blankets. “Thank you Uncle Bobby for being here, helping raise me, teach me, letting me stay here when you didn’t have to. Your probably the best thing that’s happened to me.” You said leaning up and kissing the old man on the cheek before you walked up the stairs.
~~~
You woke to voices down stairs in the kitchen and the smell of bacon and coffee, your uncle didn’t normally cook unless-
You bolted up out of bed and hightailed it down stairs to see your favorite family sitting at the table idly chit chatting with Bobby. “Sammy! Dean!” The two large men stood up and gave you a hug squeezing you between them like a sandwich. “Oh I missed yall so much!” You through your arms around both of their necks pulling them down to your level and squishing their cheeks to yours.
“Hey sweetheart, how you holdin’ up?” John asked bending down to give you a hug. You had somehow managed to weasel your way into the eldest Winchesters heart when you was young running around with Sam and Dean causing trouble.
“I’m doin good John. It makes it a little easier knowing that he didn’t hurt, ya know. It was quick.” You shrugged taking your seat between the two brothers.
You all sat and ate breakfast talking about the latest hunt that the guys had been on, hearing John talk about hunts with your dad, listening to Bobby rant about having to bandage up the both of them more times than he cared to. It had started out as a good day.
“So Sammy, any plans after you finally finish school?” You asked over you cup of coffee.
“Yes and no. I don’t know what I really want to do yet. I got my acceptance letter from Stanford the other day but we haven’t really discussed it any further.” Sam said looking down.
“Sammy here wants to be a lawyer.” John laughed. “Of all things. Been training the boy his whole life to hunt and now he wants to throw it all away for a ‘higher education’.” John rolled his eyes.
“What’s wrong with that? I got accepted into KCU working on getting my RN.” You asked raising an eyebrow at the man. “He doesn’t wanna follow the family business I don’t see where that’s a problem. Besides, then you would have someone to get both your asses outta trouble if need be.”
“Y/n you always knew you didn’t wanna do this-“
“But Sammy did. I think he should have a little bit of a say so in his future.” You said leaning back and crossing your arms in front of you. “Don’t worry Sammy, I’ll come visit you on weekends.”
“So you got accepted to KCU and didn’t tell me yet?” Bobby asked trying to change the subject.
“Well a lot of stuff has happened since I got the letter. Honestly I didn’t think I was gonna get in, I didn’t turn in all my stuff till last minute.” KCU had only been a pipe dream for you, going into the medical field was kind of an easy choice; you had stitched, bandaged, and pulled out bullets from more than one hunter that had come through Bobby’s door on many occasions.
“So a collage girl now?” Dean said winking at you.
“Gross no, you’re my brother.” You wrinkled your nose and made a disgusted look at him
“Ew NO! Not you! Trust me I’ve already seem more of you than I ever care about seeing-“ That earned a hard glare from both John and Bobby to both of you.
“Shut up Dean.”
“Like the time we had stayed out all night drinkin and went skinny dippin in the lake.”
“Shut up Dean.”
“Or the time that we had the bet that you wouldn’t walk out on the field during homecoming and moon everyone.” Bobby crossed his arms, you hadn’t told him the reason you had been suspended from school that week
“Dean, I will hit you so hard that your kids will feel it.”
“Or the time-” You punched him hard “OW!” He grabbed his arm holding it while Sam busted out laughing.
“There are certain things that you don’t say Dean.” You stared at him with wide eyes. “Like the time that you begged me to come get you from whats her names house at like three in the morning so that you wouldn’t get caught sneaking back into the hotel that we were staying at, or the time that we had to get Sam to cover for us because we snuck out to go to that party, or ho-”
“OK! Grounded, both of you. Till further notice.” Bobby pointed at you and Dean.
“I’m 21 Bobby!” Dean yelled looking at his dad for help, John simply shrugged his shoulders.
“Your joking me? Uncle Bobby, you’ve never grounded me before!”
“Well y/n there’s a first time for everything. Seems like I just didn’t’ know that you need to be grounded all the time.” Bobby said shaking his head.
“Well thanks for taking the pressure off me guys.” Sam said draping his arm around the back of your chair laughing.
“Sam, watch it, I’m sure you had your help in something too with these two bad influences around.” John warned.
~~~
The next week was spent going over information about the hunt the boys were about to do, gun training, and hanging out with the boys. With them getting older they werent able to come around as much as they use to so when you were together you made the most of your time. Sam had decided to hang back and go over some more books of Bobby's while you and Dean went for burgers.
"When are you gonna start huntin with us y/n?" Dean asked looking over his burger.
"Dean, we've went over this. I'm better behind a book looking up lore, or with a needle and thread in my hand. I dont do field work. I dont like having to chop heads or burn bodies."
"Your good with any weapon put in your hand, your freakin awesome at fighting. I'm just sayin I ever have to go off on my own your the first one I would call." He shrugged.
"Well I guess I'm lucky that you'll have Sammy then right?" You said whipping off your hands. "But you ever need any research done I'm your girl."
"Sammy's going to collage. Hes getting out." Dean said looking down. "I act all butt hurt and upset that hes leaving but I'm not, not really. I'm actually really proud. Proud of him and you. You both did something that I never imagined could happen."
"But I'm going to collage to learn how to help people when they get attacked Dean, I wouldnt say that was 'getting out'."
"But when this is over and you decide you dont wanna do this anymore you'll have a fall back. Sammy is going to be a lawyer, what can I do? I'm good at killing things."
"You can be a professional hunter," he snorted "ummm, oh, or a gun salesman, or a secret agent." You laughter with him on that one. "Hunters lives is a whole lie anyways I think you could pull it off. Wear a suit, woo a girl." You raised your eyebrows at him.
"Whatever. Let's go home, I heard theres a Hatchetman marathon tonight. Think we could get Sam to join us like old times?"
"I'll grab the snacks." You said throwing your arm around his middle.
