hey i'm not sure who to go to for this, but do you have resources on vetting a specific gofundme? most of the "vetted" ones i see on here just link to a tumblr post as "proof." my friend is trying to convince me to donate thousands to a gofundme that has a "deadline" of overnight, to me it seems scammy. i thought people in gaza can't access money immediately? can't find any other info about the fund online.

Re: how to check up on a specific fundraiser, a lot of organizations running verification efforts will keep a spreadsheet of fundraisers that you can search by name, campaign title, social media handles, etc. That’s what I do when checking campaigns that are new on tumblr, since sometimes they were verified by OOB or another org before making a blog here. You can check my pinned post for some links. You can also find websites and/or social media accounts for some of the verification efforts that will explain who they are and how they verify people.

The ones linking to tumblr posts as proof are doing so because certain users are known to be Palestinian Arabic speakers who are personally vetting fundraisers. el-shab-hussein, nabulsi, or 90-ghost vouching for a fundraiser means that they have spoken personally to the organizer, seen ID documents, cross checked socials/phone numbers, sometimes even called them on the phone in real time and heard the war planes overhead. Hussein and Nairuz keep a spreadsheet as well that is also linked in my pinned post. It’s the source for most verifications on this blog.

All I can say is that you’ll just have to read what you can about the person or organization who did the vetting and use your own judgment. That’s all the vetters are asking folks to do. If this is a fundraiser where you can’t seem to find a verification source at all, dm me at palms-upturned and I’ll try to see what I can find quickly since the deadline is so urgent.

Re: the deadline, off the top of my head I don’t know of a fund with an overnight/today deadline, but I have seen a lot of funds with multiple deadlines. Needing to raise x amount of money to evacuate a member of the family who is in most urgent need, needing to raise a certain amount by a certain day in order to ensure that an evacuating child can be accompanied by an adult family member, needing to meet the goal by a certain day to make sure that the whole family isn’t separated, or in Bilal’s case recently, because he was raising funds from Germany on a visa which was not renewed simply because he is Palestinian, and needed to meet the goal before potentially being deported to Palestine, where he would no longer be able to raise funds. It’s not necessarily unusual for people to set a very sudden deadline or even multiple ones. Emergencies are constantly happening and the banks and travel agencies are also trying to squeeze as much money out of people as possible.

When people set these deadlines and goal amounts, they are also trying to take into account things like how long it will take to access the funds and how much of a cut will be taken by all the third parties down the line. Honestly, if there’s something that needs clarifying, you can usually just talk to people. Ask the organizer or one of the users who have been keeping in touch with them and promoting the fundraiser with updates. These folks are trying to be as transparent as possible and stay connected with anyone who can help them. They’re not going to dodge your questions. And they can explain best what sort of time/money constraints apply to them specifically. It differs depending on the banking situation, number/age of family members, offers and/or ultimatums from the travel agency, etc.

But the truth is that you and me both don’t have the know-how to verify this sort of thing ourselves any more than we could verify whether or not someone has cancer or is living on the streets or any number of reasons people launch fundraisers. Any time you donate to a cause like this, you’re putting some amount of trust in the organizer, the platform, and the people promoting the fund. But never in my life have I donated to a crowdfund that has been put through such intense scrutiny and as many layers of verification as Gaza fundraisers right now. Platforms like GFM are requiring constant updates about every penny spent of raised funds, and it still doesn’t guarantee that people’s verified fundraisers won’t be nuked and refunded without any real explanation to anyone involved. I’ve had I think five or six donations to various fundraisers refunded back to me at this point when I didn’t even want a refund. Zionists are mass reporting Gaza funds and smearing both the families and the people who are verifying and promoting them. Scammers pretending to be Gazan are not going to have a remotely easy time of it. Things are engineered to be as difficult as possible for people actually in Gaza.

tl;dr— if you need help with finding an actual source of verification, since this seems to be an emergency, dm me at palms-upturned for assistance. Obviously can’t say if this campaign is legit without knowing which one it is. Otherwise, you can check my pinned post for a list of orgs/spreadsheets/master lists of verified campaigns that you can cross reference. If you need more info on who’s doing the vetting and how, find the website and/or socmed page for the person or organization. You can also usually ask organizers/the people helping promote their campaigns directly for clarification on anything that’s confusing. But considering the harsh discrimination against Palestinians on crowdfunding platforms like GFM and PayPal, and the extra scrutiny their fundraisers are subjected to, you’re at a pretty low risk of being scammed most of the time. Sudden deadlines aren’t uncommon because emergencies are happening every day and the banks and travel agencies are squeezing as much money as possible out of people.

I have the right to sell any commissioned work as prints, stickers, posters, shirt designs, etc. The commissioner does not. ♡ basic gif tutorial!

hiiiii!!! i've made a tutorial in the past but i thought i might update it with this tutorial (re an ask i got a few days ago)! please keep in mind that i'm far from an expert when it comes to giffing but i am open to clarification and further questions <33

DISCLAIMER! there are so many ways to make gifs! everyone has a different process, so don’t be afraid to deviate from this! also! feel free to send an ask for further clarification :)

1: converting !

one of the major issues when it comes to ensuring the best quality for your gifs is making sure that you’re using an application that maintains at least a 1080p quality of the video you use. it’s not a good idea to gif anything below 720p as the quality of the video and consequently, your gifs are not going to be the best!

i) choosing a video

if you’re going to gif, i’d recommend choosing videos that are hq!

✰ Stage Gifs

for stage gifs i use .ts files! it’s definitely easier to source a performance video from youtube, but they won’t provide you with the quality you desire. if anything, use youtube as a source for stage gifs as a last resort!

for ts files, you can use:

-> rosebay

-> twitter (search [group name] + [date of performance] + [ts])

i personally use rosebay for my seventeen performance gifs but other groups do have sites/blogs that are specific to them.

psa: kpop24hours are currently not taking in any applicants atm! best advice would be to follow them on twt and keep their notifs on in case they do

these sources (at least, rosebay) are easy and pretty self explanatory to download!

✰ Normal Gifs

for normal gifs (i.e. of interviews, behind the scenes, going seventeen, etc.) i use youtube <3 keep in mind that it’s always best to use the source most reputable to ensure quality. for example, if i were to gif an inside seventeen video, i would use the seventeen official channel’s post of that, not reposts or anything like that!

to download youtube videos, i use:

-> 4K Video Downloader!

ii) how do you download youtube videos via this application?

all you have to do is:

1) copy the link to the youtube video (PSA this application only works for converting youtube videos)

2) press the green plus button on the very lefthand corner at the top

3) a window that lists the options for the video quality you want will then come up.

4) if it offers 1080p, it is almost always best to choose that for optimum quality!

5) the video will then download and you’ll be able to access it via a folder labeled 4K Video Downloader in your files app.

2. resizing and sharpening !

personally, i don’t sharpen in ps unless absolutely necessary. for most of my sharpening, i leave it to vapoursynth.

now, vapoursynth is a massive pain to download and use but it’s worth it in the end (i promise!! i’ve cried over it a lot but i probably wouldn’t be happy with posting my gifs without it)

i personally found it a bit complicated to download vs so i’ll refer you to a tutorial i used (i also got help from some of my moots bc idk how to do anything so dw if it’s confusing :sob:)

i) how to use vapoursynth now that you’ve gotten it downloaded?

this is probably the hardest part of the tutorial (at least, in my opinion) :sob: for this example, i’ll be using my 4K Video Download instead of a vlive, so if you were using a vlive, you’d have your downloads folder open instead of the 4K Video one.

1) open your files folder twice, make sure that there are two windows open - one being the vapoursynth folder (for me, it’s called VapourSynth64Portable (200722) but it depends on which version of vs you download) and another being the 4K Video Downloader folder.

2) notice the different applications (?) within the vapoursynth folder. in particular, the vapourscript (drop video file on me) one. drag the video you want to gif from the 4K Video Downloader folder onto that app, and it’ll open up a new window. this window is the timestamp window.

3) in this new window, type in the length of the video you want to gif. i personally do this bit by bit (as in, i timestamp each gif instead of letting vapoursynth run through the whole video, which, in retrospect is probably smarter but i am a Fool). for example in the video i’m giffing, i want one of my gifs to run from 0:56-0:58 of the video. so i input the start timestamp. in my case, this would be 00:00:56. and then i press enter. this would direct me to put in the duration of the video i want to encode, which, in my case, would be 2 seconds (00:00:02).

4) press enter again! it’ll open up a window on whichever internet server you use (for me, this is chrome) with a bunch of options:

5) next, you want to alter all the options so that it becomes a gif of the size and sharpening you want.

psa: all of the things below are advised options! it’s completely up to you to choose what settings you use. don’t be afraid to experiment!

ii) resizing

-> to resize, you want to use the GIF Size option. keep in mind the acceptable sizes of gifs on tumblr! if you gif something of an incorrect size, tumblr will probably destroy the quality even more than it already does and make it incredibly blurry, and you don’t want that! to prevent this, make sure to refer to this helpful guide on gif sizes for ones you could use!

for this gif, i’ll be using a 540 x 450 size.

make sure to move your gif around so that everything you want people to see in the gif is there. you can even drag the gif out to zoom in, etc.

6) input the size you desire in the width x height sections next to the GIF Size option.

iii) preprocessing

-> this indicates how fast or slow vs will make your gif. for normal videos, i use qtgmc 30 slow and debilinear. however, i’ve seen in other tutorials that it should be different for performance gifs (i.e. qtgmc 60 slow and debilinear). however, this is all up to you and your preference! experiment, and see what works for you!!

for this gif, i’ll be using qtgmc 30 slow and debliniear.

7) select the speed and debiliniear options next to the processing title.

iv) denoise filters

-> this option basically acts to smoothen your gifs!i tend to use KNLM and have actually never used BM3D before, but feel free to choose the latter!

8) choose between KNLM and BM3D (next to the denoise heading), and select the tickbox that comes up underneath it.

v) sharpening

-> this is when you sharpen your gifs! and make them look less grainy than if you were using ps directly. i personally use finesharp, but again it’s up to you!

9) choose between finesharp and VCFreq, and check the tickbox that comes up underneath it.

this is what my settings are like for this gif:

10) next! you need to alter the values for sharpening and denoise! this can be done on the coded box in the upper right-hand corner:

11) first, change the denoise filter value to whichever one you wish. for this gif, i will be using 1.8. this can be done by altering the “1.2” value in the row that has the text “video = core.knlm.KNLMeansCL(video, 0, 6, 4, 1.2, channels = "YUV”)

12) next change the sharpening value to whatever you want! for this gif, i will be using 0.33. this can be done by altering the “0.22” value in the row that has the text “video = fun.FineSharp(video, sstr=0.22).

the text box should now look like this with your altered values:

13) copy the text and you’ll notice that this window has opened on your taskbar. you will need to copy the text from here into this app - vapoursynth editor.

14) paste the text from that upper right-hand corner into the vapoursynth editor underneath the text #whatever you copied from the resizer goes here.

15) before continuing, depending on your laptop’s speed and ability to process things, i’d recommend lowering the RAM usage to something more bearable for your laptop to process without it overheating and getting damaged. i personally use 300 as the RAM usage but feel free to use whatever you want.

this is what your editor should look like now!

16) press f8 and it’ll open a new window. this will be where you get your edited video that will be good to put in ps and play around with. change the preset option to Export to MOV. and next to the header title, make sure to select Y4M in the dropdown menu. after this, you should be good to press start!

3. giffing !

now this is the part of the tutorial where you kind of get to do your own thing

i) importing

1) open photoshop and click on file, then import, and video frames to layers. it’ll open up your files.

2) what you want to do next is find the output folder. this folder can be found within your vapoursynth folder. that is:

vapoursynth64portable >> gifs >> output

3) click on the output folder and it’ll come up with another window:

make sure your settings are like this before clicking ok!

ii) actual gif making!

4) once you’ve clicked ok, it’ll direct you to the workspace. you will have the frames for your gif on the bottom and the layers on the right-hand side. i won’t go into the specifics for giffing since you asked for quality but if you’re looking for more specific instructions on how to actually gif, feel free to send in another ask or i can refer you to another tutorial!

i) timing

you can alter the timing by selecting all the frames and making it faster or slower - it depends on your preference!

ii) colouring

colouring is the foundation of your gif - it’s what makes it look good!! have fun with it, and try out different colouring! you could also look into using psds if you want! psds are basically pre-made colouring (filters, essentially) that you put over the top of your gif

5) once you’ve finished with the aesthetic steps of making your gif, it’s time to export! to export, you must click file >> export >> save for web (legacy). it’s up to you which export settings you use but make sure that your gif is under 10MB!

6) and voila <3 you’ve got a gif!

first of all, thank you everyone for the interest in the blog! it’s become significantly more than i expected, and since i’m just one person who works full time and is the process of moving i haven’t had the time to keep up with the influx of attention. i’ve spent the last few days figuring out how to run the blog moving forward to best manage a good balance between it and my actual life

submissions: submissions will re-open wednesday july 26th at 8pm EST. this is where you can send me images or videos you take irl or see outside of tumblr to identify. this includes submitting your own car for me to guess. i won’t give my thoughts or anything in submissions, it’ll be just like the other identification posts. please keep any sort of identification request like this to submissions. asks exclusively requesting identifications, dms, and original posts made for the purpose of tagging me will be ignored and/or deleted after submissions are re-opened. submissions will remain open indefinitely just to see how it goes, but will close if/when they become overwhelming, just to keep up with them all

i believe beth is alive but im so confused about the symbolism you guys believe it. i really find hard to believe it. So i'm wondering why you believe it. “ im new fan so i don’t know that much”

Hi friend, I’m so sorry it took so long to get to this, it’s been a really busy summer.

So, I think the first thing to be aware of when first getting into Team Delusional theories is that everyone has their own favorite type of “evidence” they follow and believe in. We all probably have our individual favorite types of symbolism we track. Having said that, most of us probably have in common that we noticed a pattern of “irregularities” around Beth’s “death” that we didn’t really see around the deaths of other characters. When a character in TWDU dies, we usually see a number of markers indicating that this character is definitely dead and will not be resurrected. Sometimes we get to see them take an emotional farewell with loved ones, providing closure for the characters and the viewers alike. We typically see them being put down with a knife through the brain, making sure they won’t be reanimated. If a beloved character has died and reanimated, we typically see them being put down and laid to rest in a peaceful, respectful manner. We often see burials. Basically, we often see these types of ritual markers indicating the end of this character’s story in TWDU.

We didn’t see any of that with Beth. Her “death” feels unresolved and incomplete. There was no closure, not for the characters or for the audience.

Adding to that, there are clear parallels between Beth’s “death” and the death fake-out of for example Rick. Meaning, in Beth’s case, her “death” had more in common with the “death” of characters that were later resurrected than characters that remained dead. For me, that’s one of the first things that comes to mind when asked why I believe she might come back. I’ve written many posts on that in the past and more recently, I’ll link some of them below.

I talk about Sirius symbolism a lot, and in these posts I lay out the theoretical foundation of it all. These posts (here and here) are old, and should probably be updated. Also, English is not my first language, which really shows in these older posts. But they´re thorough, and most of what I reference these days is explained here.

I also reference Noah's t-shirt theory quite a lot. Again, it's old, but we still see a lot of the bird symbolism on the shows, and this was the first time I elaborated on why that's important.

I reference the three/tree/trunk symbolism a lot (here and here). Again, it's old but always relevant.

While these are old posts, I think they're still relevant for most of what I write about today, becaus this is the symbolism I like to track, and in my opinion, the show is still full of these types of symbolism, even after all these years. It's all connected.

I've recently been very preoccupied with the symbolism around cars, which ties directly into how many of us believe Beth originally survived after Coda (here, here, here, here), and I guarantee you there are more car posts in my drafts, because it's been coming back in a BIG way lately.

Finally, I'll link to the Fighting Fire With Fire posts, which deal with a lot of the same as the older posts I linked to above, but with the added insight of multiple more recent seasons (here, here and here, plus here's another one about how this is tied to Beth (here).

Alby's Writings Discord Server

Hello again!

As I said in the previous post, I’ve made a Discord server while I’ve been slowly chipping away at Chapter 1 Part 3 😄 Once again, special thanks to my lil bro @system-operations for being my guinea pig as I worked on and tested out the server 🤭

In case you haven’t seen what I wrote in that post about the server, here’s what I said about it:

So, part of the reason why it’s been difficult for me to do stuff on Tumblr is because my access to it is rather limited now due to personal stuff; it’s nothing bad, don’t worry, and it’s not because I’ve been doing anything shady or illegal (I think it’d be the shock of the century to people who know me if they ever heard that I did something like that 😅). It’s just personal stuff 😅

I also think that part of why I’ve been overwhelmed with Tumblr stuff is because of the similar asks that start to pile up the longer that I’m unable to answer them, which is why I’ve set up some forum channels in the server where people can send questions and feedback and you guys can see what questions have been asked and which ones have been answered, especially without needing to wonder if I received your questions and answered them or not.

But the main purpose of this server is to provide a lil space where you guys can hang out and maybe interact with each other and with me :3 I’ve got a few things planned for server activities:

Game Night: We would play some of the games in Discord Activities and some other online browser games like Red Flags and Cards Against Humanity

Watch Party: We would watch some animes that are available on Youtube (such as Campfire Cooking in Another World [100/10 great anime in my opinion we stan wholesomeness in this household]) and Starkid musicals (the Hatchetfield trilogy is fire y’all), and probably some other Youtube stuff

Study With Me: Just popping into a voice channel and playing some music while I study helps me quite a lot apparently, so if that works for any of you who might join the server, it’s a-okay if you wanna join in :3

But of course, participation in these activities is very much optional! It’s okay if you’d prefer to lurk, I’m a lurker myself in most of the other servers I’ve joined 😅

However, I do want to make it very clear now that this will be an 18+ server, as it will not only be for ATE but also for the other IF projects that I have planned, some of which will contain content that is not suitable for minors. So just to be sure, I’ve decided to restrict the server to those 18 and above. Please, for any underage followers that I may have, do not lie about your age if you join because I will have to remove you from the server. You have been warned.

So now that I’ve laid out the stuff with Discord, you might be wondering what’s gonna happen with the Tumblr asks after I’ve answered the stuff in my inbox. Well, here’s what I’m planning to do:

Step 1: Compile all Tumblr asks into a Google doc  Step 2: Add any Discord asks into same Google doc Step 3: Share the Google doc for public viewing Step 4: Re-open Tumblr ask box Step 5: Update the Google doc as I receive future asks from both Tumblr and Discord, even if I’m unable to answer the questions immediately

This way, everyone can see the asks, whether or not you’ve got Discord or Tumblr, and the search for the asks is gonna be a lot more efficient!

Since you are online, I was wondering what you thought about this.

I recently met some BTS stans and have become close with them. While chatting with them I have realised that they always box Jimin into contemporary and think that he isn't the best dancer/performer of the group. When I ask them why they think that, the answer is that BTS have always said JHope is the best dancer so why would they think differently. It made me really think about it all. I even tried focussing on other members when I watched their performances but honestly I don't see what my friends see. I know JHope is an amazing dancer as is Jungkook but sometimes I feel like Jungkook is more exercising than dancing but I can't seem to agree with Jimin not being the best in the group. Of course this all comes to preference and I understand that. But with these friends, it's not even a preference. They just believe it.

I personally find Jimin to be the best dancer/performer not only in the group but also in K-pop. I would go as far to say he is one of the best performers in the world.

Now do you think I am wrong in my conviction or am I being too biased? My friends do think that it could also be because Jimin is considered better looking so I am more focussed him. I mean I do notice his looks because who wouldn't but I don't know, I don't think it's as much to do with his looks as it is with his skills.

And given I’m just quickly responding to asks now, I can’t easily look it up to link for you, so I’ll likely edit this post later to update you on my opinion re: Jimin, j-hope, and the best dancer debate, also referencing the point about Jimin being better looking apparently. A quick TLDR on that latter point about looks, this is one example of ARMYs mindlessly regurgitating narratives in the fandom and frankly being too stupid to be helped. In my humble opinion.

Interrupting Your Irregularly-Scheduled Fic-Related Content with An Extremely Long Note on The Situation in British Comedy

Hi there. If you don’t want to read about my thoughts on everything happening in the British comedy scene at the moment, feel free to give this a skip. I totally understand needing to take a step away from such things. But I felt it was important to address, given some of the characters in my stories are based on the people involved/being criticized. I’m also going to link this post in the author’s note of my next chapter update, but feel free to share it before then with those who might not be on Tumblr.

CW: non-detailed mentions of transphobia, sexual assault, and childhood sexual abuse

Okay. I think to start, I need to explain a few of things about me.

First, as I alluded to in the opening author’s note for Should’ve been obvious, I am just an American with a moderate obsession with British panel shows and not enough time to keep up with the entire British comedy world. I jumped into writing in this fandom with huge gaps in my knowledge, which was possibly not wise.

Second, as a way to protect my own mental health and under the advice of my therapist, I’m what you might call ‘terminally offline.’ Before I reactivated this blog for the purpose of sharing fic inspo, I had not been on social media for over a year. I still don’t use it outside of Tumblr, where I follow a very narrow selection of blogs that mostly post Taskmaster gifs (love you all, btw). I don’t watch or read the news. I have systems in place with my friends and family to keep me informed when something really big happens, but outside of that, I am purposefully oblivious. The consequence of this is that I did not know about the two situations I’ll be discussing until I saw some stray posts this past weekend, and that’s why I didn’t address it before.

Third, I always (to a fault, my friends would say) give absolutely everyone the benefit of the doubt and see the best in people until they prove otherwise—and even then, even while holding them accountable and removing them from my life if need be, I try to be compassionate. That’s not going to change; it’s just who I am.

Now for the two situations, my thoughts on them, and their impact on my writing.

The Richard Ayoade Thing

I’ve said before that I’m genderqueer (she/they, equally happy with both, btw). I’m not down with transphobia. But I’ve read that Richard is a separate-the-art-from-the-artist kind of guy, so his personal views aren’t entirely clear to me. That said, the blurb he gave makes me uncomfortable because to me it seems to imply he does agree with the views in the book. I don’t know much about Richard and haven’t consumed much content with him other than Big Fat Quiz and some random clips of various shows, so please point me to anything that would confirm or refute this. For now, I’ll leave it there. In terms of my writing, this isn’t as big of a deal, since the Richard character isn’t central to anything and could be easily retconned out if I wanted to, but I’ll talk more about the writing at the end.

The Noel Fielding Thing re: Russell Brand

Like most Americans, I was introduced to Noel through GBBO. (Well, to be fully honest, I watched the Buzzcocks spanking clips long before then, because those get passed around in spanko circles, but I didn’t know, or care, who the guy in both of them was at the time. It took awhile for my crush on him to develop.) I’ve actually never seen The Mighty Boosh or much of Noel’s standup; he’s just a bit too surreal and nonsensical for me to enjoy when he’s in complete creative control. I’ve watched interviews going back to the time he was promoting Luxury Comedy, all his episodes of Big Fat Quiz, and some episodes of Buzzcocks, in addition to GBBO. I knew he and Russell Brand and had good on-screen chemistry, but I had no idea they were off-screen friends to some degree (at least, they were in the past; more on that below) until this weekend. I also didn’t know that Noel was ever accused of being in a relationship with a 16-year-old when he was in his 30s. I experienced sexual abuse throughout my childhood. Obviously, if that accusation is true, it’s completely unacceptable regardless of the legality in the UK and I will no longer be a fan of Noel.

But rather than try to break down all my complicated feelings on this situation regarding Noel, I’m just going to link to this post, which I agree with 100%, including the part about respecting people who feel differently. The two follow-up posts on the same blog give some good additional info/thoughts. I’m working on doing my own digging, trying to find anything relevant, including the source of the claim that the then-girl in the supposed relationship denied it too. No luck there so far, [EDIT: shared what I found here and it’s in Noel’s favor!] though I have discovered that she (now a woman in her 30s) and Noel currently follow each other on Instagram, and that Noel doesn’t follow Russell Brand (nor can I find a time Noel mentioned him after 2020, right about when it seems like Brand’s right-wing conspiracy-theory crap started). Make of that what you will. Personally, it makes me give Noel the benefit of the doubt unless and until further info is revealed.

Somewhat of a side note: It seems like people are most upset about the lack of a public statement from Noel, specifically. However, what I find odd overall is how there hasn’t been a real statement from any big-name British comic. Lou Sanders was basically strong-armed into saying some stuff in an interview that was supposed to be about her book. Katherine Ryan is very clear she doesn’t want to speak about it despite being the one that called him a predator on Roast Battle years ago. There’s this article about the problem in comedy more generally which several female comics are quoted in, and this one from 2020 including Fern Brady (highly recommend you read both if you can stomach it) but no specific quotes on Brand from names I recognize even there. Radio silence. UK people, can you tell me, is this normal because of the libel laws you all have? From what I understand, it’s much, much easier to be sued for defamation against a public figure and lose over there than over here. Should we expect to wait for an arrest or conviction (if that happens) before people feel safe commenting? Or what is going on?

Impact on My Writing and Final Thoughts

I’ve been having a hard time mental-health-wise, these past few days, reconciling the human need to connect to art with the fact that all art is created by imperfect humans and you simply cannot know what is in someone else’s head or past. That includes my own art. I want it to be an escape for you all, for you to feel safe reading it, but like everyone else, I’m imperfect, and part of that imperfection is not knowing what to do.

At least for now, I’m going to be focused on More than that, and Noel and Richard have never been in the plan to appear in this fic. As for the future, I’m undecided. I feel like I need more info, but I also recognize that we might not ever get real answers.

The sad truth is that writing fanfic always comes with the risk that the thing you’ve been inspired by is later revealed to be problematic. Even if not with these two, something could come to light at any time about any of these people we base our characters on. That last Guardian article I linked should give everyone chills.

I think the best I can do with the info I have today is to say I’m writing about a fictional universe populated with fictional characters, and my use of real people to inspire those characters does not mean I endorse their actions or beliefs; past, present, or future; known or unknown to me at this time. I also want to say, though, that I respect anyone who feels they can’t engage with certain fandoms or fics. Trust me, I do understand.

first, what the fuck happened? 🫣

it’s been pretty much exactly a year since i dipped from this account (again). i’m sorry about that. i got a little overwhelmed and frankly just didn’t feel motivated or excited to write for a long time. i tried writing a few things (and got a little far tbh) but i just wasn’t satisfied with any of it. i even had a terrible moment or two where i got very close to deleting this account entirely but i decided against it as i’m really proud of some of the things i put out, and i would’ve been really sad to see it go. i also love all of you very much and appreciate everything you guys have done for or said to me, and i would’ve felt really guilty taking this blog away from you guys. so i promise i won’t be doing that any time soon!

i’m sure most of you have seen my teaser for first love part 5 by now (which, yes, will unfortunately be the last part for the series 😓) but!! i have like 1 or 2 small things i plan on posting before hand to keep you guys fed since it won’t be posted for another month or so. i’ve been working on it as much as i can for the past couple months, but i do work basically every day so i can only write so much 🫤 but yeah, that’s how first love is! i’ll explain some more on it when i can!!

11. Polishing your Post 

Publishing your story can be scary because once it’s out in the world, it’s literally out of your hands. 

Like editing, preparing your publication can be a little tedious. I assume you want to post your fic to tumblr, so keep in mind that, although you can always edit your post, reblogs from other people can’t be changed later on. So if you have, say, a typo, you can only change it in your original post. You put so much work into your fic, so it’s only natural that you want lots of people to read it. You already made your draft look nice and proper, but you’ll want to do the same for your tumblr post. Here’s a quick rundown of how to make your post more appealing: 

First things first: Open a new text post. You should be able to just copy and paste your draft from your writing program; tumblr will usually adopt your draft’s formatting (at least when you copy and paste from Google Docs on your computer!). 

Save the post as a draft. As I said before, I suggest you re-read your story again at this point—you’ll be able to see what the post is going to look like once you post it, and you’ll probably find some typos you missed in the editing process. It’s also easier to draft it because you’ll go back and forth fixing and updating your post anyway. 

Tag your post properly. You want your post to reach the right people. I’ll go into more detail about tagging here.

Find a good title for your fic. Titles are the first thing a potential reader will see when they stumble upon your fic, so choose them wisely. A good title can be whatever you deem fit, it’s really coming down to personal taste. I recommend going for something that captures the essence of your draft, but using lyrics, titles of songs or poems etc. is always a safe bet.

Place necessary warnings for your story at the top of your post. The same goes for a short description/excerpt of your story. If you cross-post your work to e.g. ao3, you can embed a link, too. If you have a beta reader, make sure to give them a shout-out, too!

Make your post look nice. Maybe add a banner/GIF/divider/etc.. If you haven’t made them yourself, make sure their creators are fine with you using their work before you publish your post and give credits! 

Tumblr has a “keep reading” tool—use that either right after your header or after the first couple of sentences of your story. It just looks nicer to have a compact version on your dashboard. 

Generally, you want to give your readers a quick overview of what’s to expect in your fic.

Now that you’ve done all that, and you’re happy with your draft and your post…well, it’s time to hit post—and voilá! You’ve just shared your very own fanfic with the world. Good job, I’m so proud of you! ♡

Commissioning process. There are few steps I’d like to follow as a rule. First, you send your request, preferably by a PM. I reply and and tell whether i accept it/how much you’d need to wait etc, and then we figure out the details. I draw you a rough sketch and send you a screen shot for you to approve of. When that’s done, I’ll ask you to go to make the paymant via ko-fi or paypal. I’ll continue with the drawing afterwards, updating you regularly. By default your art will be uploaded on Google Drive and you'll receive a link, unless for some reason you'd rather get that via e-mail.

Since I'd like to be able to share my art with my followers, please let me know if you want to post it, so that I can re-blog it; if you don't want to post it on your blog, please keep in mind that I'll do it on mine.

The price for the 2nd character will vary - if it's a two-people pose (dancing, hugging, etc.), then the price for the 2nd character is 50% the usual; if it's two characters standing on their own next to each other, I'll charge 75% for the second one. Third character is always 50%.

Chapter 1-

“Hello?” Her voice sounded gravelly, even to herself.

“Oh shit…Scully?”

“Mulder?”

“Yeah. Hi. I didn’t mean to call you.”

“Oh, okay. Well, have a good day, Mulder.”

“No, wait. Scully. It’s good to hear your voice. How are you?”

“Sleepy at the moment.”

“Oh yeah, it’s early there…what time?” Scully opened one eye and squinted at the alarm clock on her nightstand. “Five thirty-four am, Mulder.”

“Fuck, I’m the worst, sorry, Scully. It’s eleven thirty-four here.”

“Who were you trying to call?” Scully asked, sitting up briefly to drink a sip of water from the cup on her nightstand.

“I meant to leave a voicemail for Skinner. I guess I pushed the wrong speed dial button. He left me a message yesterday asking for an update.”

“So…how is it going there?” Mulder had been temporarily assigned to Lyon, France, at the insistence of none other than Phoebe Green. Interpol Headquarters was undergoing a massive project, developing criminal profiles for hundreds of unsolved crimes from the last decade. Mulder was brought in to tackle some of the more complicated cases.

“Okay, I guess. I feel like a banker. I show up on Mondays at nine and work til five, and then repeat until the weekend hits.”

“Well, it is the weekend,” Scully yawned. “What do you do on the weekends there?”

“I went to Paris to sightsee the first weekend. The last couple, I’ve just…honestly done nothing. I sit in this apartment. It’s pretty boring. And I feel…despite keeping to myself in D.C. for the most part, I feel lonely here.”

“Well at least your have your tapes, right, Mulder?” she teased, playfully. She heard him huff through the phone.

“No, I didn’t bring any tapes, Scully. I always tell you they aren’t mine. Although, It would be nice to have them here.”

“But they aren’t yours?”

“Maybe some of them. But, calling you is making me feel less alone.”

“What about the work—are you doing okay…I mean, the cases—they aren’t upsetting you too much?”

“What do you mean?”

“Mulder, remember when we helped Patterson with the case? The artist…what was his name?”

“Yeah, I remember. Mostow,” he said, sounding somber.

“I just worry about you being over there all alone and getting too sucked into those criminal profiles. Well…and actually, you aren’t alone. You’re with Phoebe, which is even worse.”

“Phoebe’s alright, Scully.”

“If you say so.”

A quiet moment fell upon their conversation.

“Mulder, I need to go to the bathroom. Maybe I could call you later?” Although she knew she wouldn’t call him later. They hadn’t talked much in the last month. She started to wonder if their whole relationship was based on work. If they were the kind of co-workers who’d stop talking once they stopped working together.

“Scully, can you stay on the phone? I still want to talk to you.”

“But I have to pee.”

“Just mute the line.”

“Okay, hold on. I’m walking into the bathroom.”

“What are you wearing, Scully?” he teased, and it felt like old times for a moment.

“Shut up, Mulder. Hold on.” She muted the line and placed the phone on the bathroom counter while she used the toilet.

1999: One Month Ago

“I’m being temporarily reassigned,” he said, crossing to her desk in the bullpen.

“What? Where?”

“Lyon, France.” He seemed almost giddy. She knew he wanted to get out of the bullpen, but she had to admit it hurt her a bit: his excitement to get away from their work—from her.

“Skinner is loaning me out to do a deep dive into some old unsolved crimes. I’ll be working at Interpol headquarters.”

“Interpol? Don’t tell me, Mulder—”

“What?”

“Is this the work of Inspector Green?”

“Well, yes. Phoebe knows about my skills as a profiler.”

“Mulder—” She shook her head. After working with him for six years, she knew trying to talk him out of any idea was pointless when he was excited like this.

“I’ll be fine.”

“When do you leave?”

“Tomorrow.”

“Tomorrow? When will you be back?”

“Maybe in a month or two,” he smiled and sat back at his desk.

She sighed and returned to her background checks.

To anybody who arrived here from Neil Gaiman, I want to share the level of insanity I’ve been going through for this costume. I’ve decided I can’t buy fabric in the right color, so I’ll be removing the color from a fabric that I like the pattern and feel of, and re-dying it. This is the current state of trying to color match for dye:

I’ve also been dissecting every photo I can find to replicate his unusual chain for his watch. I’ve come to the conclusion there’s actually three to four different chains, so I’ve been taking apart links on a chain and relinking them in the correct grouping… (no photo yet; waiting on a few materials for it).

I’ll probably be posting cosplay updates on this blog as they happen. I want to provide help to any other future Aziraphale’s who want it. I am also making my husband an intensely accurate Crowley costume, if anybody is interested in updates for that, as well.

I will say, I’m not a professional seamstress/cosplayer. I’ve won three craftsmanship awards in the past (best novice at a tiny convention, and two second place journeyman at a mid-sized one), but that’s the extent of it. I’m also a stay-at-home mom, so I try and do my costumes on a budget. I do splurge when there is absolutely no alternative (the vest fabric is the most I’ve ever spent on fabric, but it had to be done for the devore).
