okay, here’s a longer post about the 3rd variation of my ghost of tsushima self insert; the fox that stole lane’s identity
— the fox follows traditional fox folklore in japan, more specifically that of the yako kitsune.
— it is a nine-tailed fox that is around 900-ish years old. it is highly skilled with its magic, however i have chosen to nullify its powers slightly so that it doesn’t stick out like a sore thumb in ghost of tsushima’s setting.
— lane, the vessel for the fox, had just arrived in tsushima when it encountered the fox. the fox tracked lane down, killed her, and took her body and memories on as her own. the fox now goes by the name “lane” and identities with many of her traits.
— essentially, this fox, who had yet to perfect her human form, killed a random traveler and stole her identity for shapeshifting purposes. human lane is dead, fox lane is a mockery of her- however, they are still similar in some ways.
— she chose to do this because lane is very visibly different from the rest of tsushima (she’s a swedish traveler) and she wanted be unique. she felt that her fellow fox’s human forms all looked like copies of each other for the sake of “blending in,” and that’s not what she wanted- she wanted to stand out.
— like any other fox in this folklore, fox lane can shift between a human form and a fox form. however, her transitions to human form aren’t always seamless; sometimes her tails or ears are still visible.
— her other powers include mind reading, mind control, dream walking, the ability to induce hallucinations, and whatever the fuck fox fires are.
— she is just as clueless about tsushima’s society as human lane is in the versions where she survives, because she is a fox that is not used to human customs.
— fox lane finds herself enjoying much of what human lane did, like painting, writing, and taking long walks in nature.
— the fox is able to see the world in a way that it never has before; through the eyes of a human. with time, it begins to feel human, which is scary at first, but it learns to enjoy it.
