As for Bruce, it’s supposed to show his judgement is skewed. Reader always considered his logic to be the most sound out the the batfam but now we’re seeing he’s just as human as anyone else. He’s not some omnipotent god who knows all- he makes mistakes and bad judgement calls. Really trying to show more cracks in his previous characterization in ARS

hello! sorry for the abrupt hiatus yesterday, I was feeling a bit down due to personal reasons but I am feeling a lot better today <3 hope you’re all having a lovely day!!

the thing with roman tho is i think now roman is free of the company and of his dad as harsh as that sounds, i think he has the chance to have relationships whereas before i think he didnt because of all the expectations of his father. i hope this makes sense lol. but i felt romans ending was hopeful not a loss for him like kendalls. i think he has realized the stuff they have always placed importance on is not what is important, like ewan eulogized!

it definitely makes sense and i agree in a certain sense! i think roman of all of them approaches himself finally with the most realistic assessment and because of that his ending is the most hopeful. i also think the reason his ending is both hopeful and super tragic rests on the fact that the metric for evaluating the siblings’ desires is so different. because really and truly it was never going to be roman — we knew that and he did, too. almost everybody in s1 sees him as a joke and that never really changes; more than that, though, he’s just not cut out for it. his actual abilities lie with stuff far more advanced than the legacy operation waystar is running. (the only time he ever shows real promise is during s3 and that’s because gerri is good with legacy and she’s essentially coaching him every step of the way.)

so i think the difference between kendall and roman here is that kendall wants to run waystar because he’s been told since he was 7 that this is what he was born for and if he doesn’t succeed he’ll let logan down; roman wants to run waystar because he desperately wants his father’s love and he’s tried other ways of getting it but none of them work. those other ways include roman’s relationships with other people: he wants to seem well-adjusted and charming and like a real man because logan may love him for those things (or, where his alliance with gerri is concerned, he wants logan to take him more seriously).

logan dying + the aftermath of that death has a huge impact on roman’s actions (duh) because he can no longer do anything to earn logan’s love. anything he might’ve done to convince himself he could earn it postmortem — like mencken and the eulogy — he failed at, too! i think unfortunately more than anything his realization that they’re all bullshit is just him realizing he’s never going to get the kiss from daddy he wants. loving people the ‘right way’ in relationships beyond familial ones is already hard enough for him to do, and without logan, there’s not really any incentive to try for anything else :/
