Maybe some vampire overlord has heard of Cazador’s demise and Astarion’s ascension—they invite him and his consort to a masquerade attended exclusively by vampire elite, under the guise of welcoming the new fledging into their midst. However, by the end of the night, they’re both tricked and Mav is taken hostage by the overlord’s minions. She feeds exclusively on Astarion, which is how he imparts his ascended blessings on her—so by drinking her blood, her capturers may too become sunwalkers! Now Astarion must save his darling bride, lest she is lost to him forever 🩸🥀

ominis was doomed the moment he started to ask sebastian

unfortunately for him, he doesn't really trust anyone else for this super secret task he has appointed himself, and who else would he ask if not for his best mate sebastian? (literally anyone else)

"you want to ask y/n out on a date, do you?"

ominis tries to hide his shock, "what makes you say that?"

sebastian shrugs matter-of-factly, "well, it's valentine's day, and you've been talking about y/n all day today"

they both turn their heads to the sounds of y/n and anne laughing as they play summoner's court

"i have an idea on how you can woo y/n," sebastian suggests, and he basically sees ominis' ears twitch in interest

"well?" ominis starts, almost irritated, as he waits for sebastian, "what is it?"

sebastian smirks, "i know she will appreciate this and you will successfully woo y/n. women love grand gestures of love, y'know."

BAM! the door burst open

you crane your head to see...

dwarves

three of them, wearing golden wings and carrying harps, making them resemble cupids...if not for the scowls on their faces

it may as well be goblins from the way they scowl and look around the room

you and anne exchange curious looks, wondering if professor ronen has somehow hired these dwarves, but judging from the curious look on his face as well, you doubt it

you miss sebastian elbowing ominis, an excited look on his face, and whispering, "here they are"

"y/n l/n?" one gruff dwarf calls out

you shrink next to anne, unsure of what the dwarf wants, but you have a sense that it wasn't good

professor ronen, bless him, is very confused, "um... excuse me?"

"are you y/n?"

"err, no...but--"

"y/n l/n?!" all three dwarves shout

anne pipes up, "here! she's here!" raising her hand to point at you

you try to glare at her, curious and anxious about the dwarves

one dwarf tosses you what appears to be a box of chocolates, which you almost drop, while another one clears his throat before reciting in a gruff voice

"y/n l/n, the sound of your laugh

is like my calming draught

i wish we would hug

you are a beauty and me, a lousy dugbog"

"dugbog??" ominis hisses at sebastian, who looks proud of his creation

everyone in the classroom giggles as the three dwarves try to do a pirouette and then vanish

"oh y/n," anne exclaims, "that was so..."

"sweet?" sebastian suggests

"embarrassing!" anne retorts with a laugh. behind her, you dont notice ominis turning pale (paler than he usually is already) before sending a mean elbow into sebastian's stomach (a hex too)

as the class tries to transition back to class, you see looks on their faces, excited to see what is inside the box

you open it and you see a chocolate frog

"oh," you sigh, relieved, before smiling, "this isn't so bad."

when you bite into it however, you feel your stomach turn

professor ronen and anne must have noticed how green you looked as the professor quickly produces a bag in front of you

you proceed to empty the contents of your stomach into the bag

anne frowns at this, "it's a vomiting valentine! it's a nasty thing you usually send to someone who broke your heart on valentine's day!"

"quickly, miss sallow," professor ronen instructs, "please take her to the hospital wing!"

this time, it was sebastian's turn--appearing greener than a frog.

"sallow, what have you done?" ominis hisses, "i thought you said this would work!"

"the dwarves worked, didn't they? they must have picked up a different package, she wasn't supposed to get the vomiting valentine!"

"you oaf!" the gaunt boy huffs as he and sebastian follow you and anne out of the classroom and to the hospital wing, ignoring professor ronen's shouts

thankfully, nurse blainey is able to solve your...valentine's malady

ominis, however, is so consumed by guilt, and in his head he just keeps regretting having asked sebastian for help

so when he and seb find you recovering in the hospital wing, he's relieved

and he decides that this should be the time to apologize

"some valentine's, huh?" you smile at them

in seb's quest to ask for ominis' forgiveness, he manages to drag his sister away from the hospital wing

you smile at them and wave, before turning to ominis, who looks stiff as a board, "ominis, are you alright?"

his voice is hard, "you got hurt."

you gesture to yourself, "this? oh it was nothing," you wave your hand to dismiss it

"no," he replies, "you got hurt...because of m- some stupid, stupid valentine's day prank. and you got embarrassed by those dwarves too."

you can see how much this is affecting ominis, so you try to reach for him, settling for his hand

you pull him closer to you, telling him to sit beside you on the bed, "i'll move over, sit here with me"

ominis hums, and sits beside you

"it's all sebastian's fault"

you turn your head to look at him, confused, "seb?"

"yes, he ordered those dwarves...they must have switched the package with the vomiting valentine"

hearing this from ominis kind of deflates you, and you unconsciously turn away from him

"oh...sebastian did those for me? does he...like me?"

ominis gapes in shock, eyebrows raising, "no! i mean...yes, he did all those...but he doesn't like you! he doesn't hate you either...i just meant--"

he sighs, "i asked him for help on what to give you for valentine's day...so this was all his idea. i thought...you'd like these grand gestures and--"

"wait," you perk up, smiling. ominis can hear the joy in your voice, "you...like me?"

now it's ominis' turn to look in your direction, head tilting in curiosity, "yes, of course. are you really so oblivious?"

you laugh, in shock, in relief, as you clutch his hand happily. "i guess i am. but even with the dwarves and the vomiting valentine, this day is still good."

"what makes you say that?"

you blush, mustering the courage to lean in and rest your head on his shoulder. he smells good, feels warm, safe. "well, because i just found out the person i like likes me back."

ominis hums happily at that, visibly relaxing.

you two don't say anything else, but you quietly relish in each other, his hands wrapped around yours

and slowly, he rests his head on top of yours, feeling your breathing becoming even

and ominis closes his eyes, taking in your scent, thinking, "yes, perhaps today wasn't so bad after all."

the twins come to check on you two in a while, and sebastian sighs in relief when they see you two resting, with your head on ominis' shoulder and his head resting on top of yours.

all's well that ends well

until...

"you won't be getting away with this, sebastian," ominis calls out.

3. What fandoms do you write for? Harry Potter/Jily. I briefly wrote for Game of Thrones for a while but my interest in it waned pretty quickly.

4. What are your top five fics by kudos?

Shelf Awareness Salmon Fishing in the Olympics Careless Texter Mother Deer (The Completely Unwilling Participants on) The Bachelor

Absolutely unsurprised to learn that my top five fics by kudos are completed.

5. Do you respond to comments? I always intend to. I really do. Sometimes. Sometimes is the answer.

6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending? Don’t understand this question.

7. What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending? Pretty much any of my completed fics, but the one that jumps out is Shelf Awareness because they were really living the dream. An October of Unconventional Courtships would have beaten it if not for poor old Peter’s finger.

8. Do you get hate on fics? Not really.

9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind? I think anyone who’s followed me for a while knows that I absolutely despise the one smut scene that I actually published in a fic, and yet I have written more that is as of yet unpublished. I’m not a fan of writing it. One weird or awkward word choice can turn the whole scene comical and I’m always so in my head about it.

10. Do you write crossovers? What’s the craziest one you’ve written? I guess Bachelor fic is a crossover with, well, The Bachelor? I’ve definitely written fics inspired by other things but never a straight-up crossover.

11. Have you ever had a fic stolen? Yep! I had a fic called A Wizard Walks Into a Bar on FFnet and in 2013 someone took it and reposted it under a completely different fandom that I’d never heard of before. The author had stolen another of mine that I can’t remember and a couple of Bee’s too. My brother left a review on it that was like “I love this fic. I loved it even more when my sister first wrote it a few years ago,” and then we reported it and the account got taken down.

12. Have you ever had a fic translated? A few, yes.

13. Have you ever co-written a fic before? I’ve co-written with Kristina and with Bee, so as far as co-writing goes there’s no higher plateau that a person can reach.

14. What’s your all time favorite ship? Jily

15. What’s a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will? Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha let’s not go down that road right now.

16. What are your writing strengths? Dialogue and comedy. I think that’s fair for me to say.

Rugan rubbed his chin thoughtfully. “Think assassination is reserved for folks of some standing. Nothing but plain old murder for you.”

“Oh well,” Aradin replied, enjoyably thick with sarcasm, “in that case I don’t fancy it at all. Besides, we both know you’d botch it.”

“You still on about that?”

“Let’s have it then,” Aradin asked as he busied himself pulling his gauntlets off. “To what do I owe the pleasure?”

“Just came to ask for your hand, didn’t I? Throw you over my shoulder and take you back with me.” The younger man’s amused gaze flickered over from where he was unlacing out of his heavy footwear, and a flash of alarm petrified Rugan’s face. “Please tell me you didn’t take that serious.”

Aradin puckered his face up dramatically. “Best cancel the flowers. And they would’ve gone so nice with my eyes.”

“Oh aye,” Rugan snorted. “Would’ve really highlighted the pubescent angst you turned into a personality.”

Aradin pulled the chair back and relaxed into it, swinging his legs up and resting his feet on the table, one foot crossed over the other. “Reckon I’d look good in a dress, big slit in the side so you can see the boots. Get the feelin’ formal wear isn’t really your thing. Bet you scrub up nice, though.”

“Swear to Gods,” Rugan let his face fall into his hands and forcefully rubbed his eyelids.

“You’re so easy to wind up mate,” Aradin clasped his hands behind his head and grinned.

Rolan, Cal, & Lia next chapter WIP - I swear they've hit the bottom and after this next bit of sad discussion in the next chapter they're finally going to have a win and things will start looking up.

Rolan put his elbows on his knees and slid his hands in his hair.

“I’m sorry.”

“It wasn't your fault, Rolan,” Cal said, rubbing his temples. He was so tired, perhaps even tired of making that response.

“I thought that…” Rolan waved vaguely, hoping his pathetic gesture would do the talking for him. “I thought I'd finally figured our way out. But I stalled. Waited around like it was going to come to me. If I’d have acted sooner, if I’d have written the letter when I first thought of the idea. If I hadn’t wasted so long doubting it was even possible we might have left for Baldur’s Gate a great many tenday before this all happened. It could hardly be worse, reputation notwithstanding. The resources such an accomplished wizard would have access to - we’d be long gone and basking in the upper classes of the Gate before Elturel even thought of taking an extended holiday to the Nine Hells. Not to mention the earnings potential.”

“If I can’t eat it, he can keep his gold,” Cal muttered.

“I should’ve thought of it sooner,” Rolan voice clipped harsh with regret.

“Did think of it,” Lia said forcefully, an honest attempt at reconciliation. “Hells, even got accepted. That’s not nothing, Rolan. That one lady seemed impressed.”

“Not sure if impressed would be the word I used,” he mused. “Though it certainly helped us throw our weight around.” He paused, reflecting on that day that they had first entered the basement. He thought about that woman and her vile judgment. Then her child, and that insufferable ball. And then… Rolan shook the recollection away. They had always avoided looking through the remains of that room.

1. How did you get into writing fanfiction?

I’m relatively unusual here, I think, in that whilst I’ve been writing it since my teens I have had a good twenty year break up until a few months ago. Years ago, I just started writing it for my own pleasure - certainly no internet or easy ways to share it back then. More recently, I can attribute my return to one thing and one thing only: my love of the series Andor. An obsession that came out of nowhere in September 2023 when I watched it for the first time and it resonated with me in a way nothing has come close to in quite some time. After several months of writing various analyses of it I felt the urge to get creative.

2. How many fandoms have you written in?

Not many - most recently, Andor - obviously - and with the obvious overlap of Rogue One. Going back: I started out on E.T. (early teens then so that will date me accordingly :) ) - moving on to Aliens, The Silence of the Lambs and The X Files. Some novels then too: Narnia and Clive Barker, notably.

3. How many years have you been writing fanfiction?

As above, really. I’m in my mid 50s now - which I imagine makes me one of the older ones here. I dabbled most recently in the late 90s, with The Phantom Menace slashfics that were hugely popular back then - one of my friends was a superb writer (her stories were considerably better than the film itself ) and absolutely churned them out on whatever forums were around. They were a wholly new thing to me and I hadn’t even seen the film, but I dabbled a bit anyway :)

4. Do you read or write more fanfiction?

I write more at the moment, but I’m gradually trying to catch up with the reading. I missed Andor when it was first released and therefore the glut of fics from that time. But I’m getting to know the writers I really like and rediscover my own interests, genre speaking, along the way.

5. What is one way you’ve improved as a writer?

It’s really hard to compare as I haven’t got much left hanging around from my earlier years, but I would say that with several decades of teaching Lit under my belt now I do care a lot more about characterisation than I ever used to. It used to be all about the plot. I’m finding myself very drawn to subtext-heavy dialogue, internal monologues, drabbles and even poetry - the last being something I never thought I’d touch with a barge pole. I’m not saying I’m any good, just that I enjoy the challenge. That’s the main thing, in fact. These days I’m happy to embrace a challenge rather than shy from it. 

6. What’s the weirdest topic you researched for a writing project?

That would be what human flesh tastes like. For a Silence of the Lambs fic, obviously. The answer is apparently “pork crossed with beef” so I guess a genuine ragu lasagne would scratch that particular itch if anyone’s curious. 

7. What’s your favorite type of comment to receive on your work?

At the moment, as I’m pretty much starting from scratch and trying to find readers, absolutely anything. Probably excluding ‘don’t give up the day job’. 

8. What’s the most fringe trope/topic you write about?

Probably the cannibalism thing. Though that’s no doubt more mainstream nowadays…. I haven’t even looked at all the Hannibal (tv series) fics out there. 

9. What is the hardest type of story for you to write?

Anything long - the longest thing I ever completed was a 250 page novel but I was 14 at the time and haven’t come close since. Haven’t the stamina these days. Same with reading – I prefer one shots.

10. What is the easiest type?

Missing scenes or scene commentaries - not so much easy as such but probably my favourite forms, so they come relatively easily once I really put my mind to them. I find analytical essays the easiest of all, if I know the text well, but that’s no doubt a teacher-thing. I’ve made myself a regular feature on the Reddit Andor sub, probably to the chagrin of some :)

11. Where do you do your writing? What platform? When?

Looking at other answers to this one, I’m a bit perplexed. I have an elderly iMac and write on that. Hell, I used to do everything in long hand. Thank God I learned to touch-type. I guess I use Googledocs when forced to use my laptop. I’m fortunate to be semi-retired, so I generally find the time.

12. What is something you’ve been too nervous/intimidated to write, but would love to write one day?

Something longer, I guess. Hard to tell. I was and am intimidated by Smutfics, but had a go at a challenge recently and was quite pleased with the result. Not something I’ll be writing often though - not the main event, anyway. Love the buildups, and there’s some really great erotica out there, but I do get pretty stuck using the same vocabulary if I’m not careful. I’ve done a few humorous variations and quite liked those too. I’m British, lived in Bath for many years so like to imagine Austen’s ironic take on sex scenes quite a bit. 

13. What made you choose your username?

Nothing very deep - it’s to do with where I live. I’m a keen birder and Colley is an old West Country (England) word for a blackbird.

1. How many works do you have on AO3?

28 currently! I have more on ff.net but never transferred them over since I wrote them when I was younger and don’t like them enough to do so.

2. What's your total AO3 word count?

506,651

3. What fandoms do you write for?

Currently I’m mostly writing for ROTTMNT, and have a long time fic for BNHA I’m stuck on the last chapter for. In the past I’ve written for Natsume Yuujinchou, Tokyo Ghoul, Naruto, Animorphs, Teen Wolf, Killing Stalking, and…I think that’s it on ao3?

4. What are your top 5 fics by kudos?

1. The Good In Me, 2. Dangerous Games, 3. Friendship Benefits, 4. Classroom Etiquette, 5. Approximation (the natsume fandom is really dominating there lol)

5. Do you respond to comments?

I know when I comment on something it feels nice to get a response, so I try to respond when I have the bandwidth for it. I’d say I do maybe 80% of the time?

6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?

I have to be honest, I have a chronic case of not finishing my fics. So I’m going to just say that the one with the angstiest planned ending is probably going to be And the Loyal Remains. Angst in general would be Sticks and Stones, mostly because that was the fic I was writing when I was having a lot of emotions while living on my own for the first time and I was beating up my characters over it.

7. What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?

Probably any of my Natsume fics! They’re shorter so they’re actually finished, and Natsume is one of the few characters I want to wrap in a blanket with very little angst involved, so even if the story is a little sad I try to give them sweeter endings.

8. Do you get hate on fics?

Not recently! When I was younger and posting on ff.net I used to get some hate, but I haven’t really seen anything like that coming from ao3.

9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?

Not really. I’m not against smut of any kind, but I’m not big on writing romance or relationships, and tbh I’d feel too shy to post any smut even if I did write some lol.

10. Do you write crossovers? What’s the craziest one you’ve written?

I love crossovers, but I write very few of them. My very first fanfiction I ever wrote and posted when I was…13 I think, was a Cirque Du Freak/Harry Potter crossover over on ff.net. That one might be the craziest one, simply because I was straight up plagiarizing whole paragraphs straight from the HP books and the fic actually got kind of popular?? It was definitely an odd first try at dipping my toes into fanfic writing, and probably skewed my expectations for my future fics lol.

11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?

The only one I’m aware of having been stolen was my BNHA fic, which someone had taken and had a robot reading on their monetized youtube channel. I didn’t like that at all.

12. Have you ever had a fic translated?

Dangerous Games was translated by GlaireG, and I’ve had some people ask if they can translate other works without that ever going anywhere. That said, if anyone ever wants to translate any of my works they’re more than welcome to! All I ask is that credit be given and linked back to the original.

13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?

I have not! Co-writing sounds simultaneously very fun and very stressful, since I’m a slow writer and would probably fret over holding the other person up. It’s something I might be interested in, under the right circumstances. editing to add that I am silly and didn’t think about the fact that the crossover between @boots-with-the-fur-club’s Inverted Confrontation AU and my Leave AU was co-writing lol. Love yoouuu thank you for pointing out my silly. 💚

14. What’s your all time favourite ship?

Hhmmmmm, I’m going to say Nezushi from No. 6! I don’t have many ships, but they have lived rent free in my head for over a decade at this point lol.

15. What’s a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?

All of them. I dream of finishing my abandoned WIPs, but I don’t really see that happening tbh.

16. What are your writing strengths?

I’ve been told I’m good at world-building and characterization, which is great since those are my favorite parts of writing. :)

17. What are your writing weaknesses?

I wish I was better at crafting a solid plot and following it through to the end. I have an awful habit of having ideas as I go and chasing after them instead of just sticking with one idea. Imagery is something I’m not very good at. Also, being able to write humor is something I dream of, but I’m not a very funny person so that is dead in the water.

18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic?

I personally prefer to just indicate that something is being said in another language, but to each their own. I don’t love having to google what something means or when someone types something out in one language and then puts in parentheses the translation right afterwards. That said, there are some cases where it’s done very well and adds to the story, so I guess it just depends.

19. First fandom you wrote for?

Darren Shan/Harry Potter. I started writing it in a notebook bc I couldn’t get the idea out of my head. Then learned about fanfiction and it was all over from there.

20. Favourite fic you’ve written?

This is a really hard one…. Maybe Classroom Etiquette? It was really enjoyable to write. The Good In Me also holds a special place in my heart since I’ve been working on it for so long. (though Turning a New Shade of Red aka the Rise Hunger Games AU is quickly rising through the ranks to be one of my favs)

Hi there! Public is fine; I've been bitching about it in public for a couple of decades now, lol. It's wildly unfinished, but I've been thwacking away at a pulp novel since I was twenty or so. There's a hundred pages, maybe, and it's an alternate earth with steam tech and magic and a ton of worldbuilding that will probably never see light on the page, but it's there, chugging away in the background lol. The novel is basically an excuse to indulge in everything I love about the pulps; adventure, swordplay, gore, reluctant heroes, mercenaries, weird magic, a mix of gods, the works. I hope to finally finish it before I'm retirement age, but eh. Raymond Chandler was in his 50's when he started writing, so I'm still ahead of the game lol.

Other than that, I write a lot of self-indulgent stuff to please myself, and that stuff doesn't get posted anywhere because I doubt it would interest anyone but me. I do have one ongoing series on ao3 I write for some friends (if you're reading this @guilty-pleasures-abound I swear I've got another piece under construction!) called New Boots and Contracts, and it's a Reader fic that is actually super fun to write because I'm not into either character Reader's involved with and it makes it, I dunno, a nice exercise in trying to make a fic as inclusive and fun as possible.

When did you start writing?

I’ve always loved writing! I was in 6th grade when my childhood best friend introduced me to the magic of fanfiction though. We started out co-writing, and then as we took our writing more seriously we started sharing separately. She was the only person that’s ever known that i write fics in real life (aside from one of my sisters as of the last few months lol) and the only person I’ve actually shared my work with, and when we drifted apart in high school my sharing online tapered off as well. I kept my writing to myself for around 10 years after that, but the aoex community pulled me in a few years ago and it was like falling in love all over again.

Are there different themes or genres you enjoy reading other than what you write?

Yes and no? What I read falls across a broader spectrum than what I’ve shared so far, but it’s more about the ending that generally needs to be in the same vein for me. Unhappy or largely unresolved endings leave me with an almost cold sort of hollowness, like im left with a characters heartache long after I’ve finished reading it, and I just really don’t like it. A happy ending scratches a really specific itch for me, and it’s what I’m personally seeking from fics in both my writing and my reading.

Is there a writer you want to emulate or get compared to often?

I don’t think anyone’s ever directly compared me to anyone, and while I definitely have writers I look up to I wouldn’t say there are any I’d want to imitate, especially not with the intentions of surpassing.

Can you tell me a bit about your writing space?

I’ll write anywhere and everywhere and almost always when I shouldn’t be writing lol. My ideas usually come to me when I’m doing my best critical thinking, like when I’m tackling something complicated at work. Then I’ll start to daydream, and then I just have to jot the bits and pieces down while they’re there. My sister says it’s because I’m in “productive mode” and that’s when my brain works best. I write on my phone, my work computer, my iPad, sticky notes, whatever is close to me is good enough for me.

What’s your most effective way to muster up a muse?

I don’t have a ton of free time so I don’t usually actively try to muster up my muse, but just about any time i interact with the source material at all I end up teeming with new ideas. I have so many fics and drawings in progress, it feels like there’s always a muse hovering over me whispering about aoex.

Are there any recurring themes in your writing? Do they surprise you?

Most of my writing is silly little get togethers, so there are a lot of recurring themes that are pretty expected lol, but I guess I’ve been surprised to see how much worries of inadequacy seem to flow throughout them.

What is your reason for writing?

I love it! I love writing in general, and I love the entire world of Blue Exorcist. I love Rin and Ryuuji individually as characters, and I LOVE their chemistry together. I love the relationship they’ve built in canon and how much I can build off of that in my writing. I love the resolution I can give myself through writing and I love how healing it feels for me. And I love this community and connection it’s given me as well <3

What do you feel is your greatest strength as a writer?

I don’t know if it counts as a strength, but I’ve always been very passionate about my interests and I’d like to think that shows through into my writing.

How do you feel about your own writing?

Honestly, I have a weird relationship with my writing. I’m really proud of and happy with the end result of every fic I’ve shared. But imposter syndrome is something I’ve always struggled with in a lot of different ways, and I guess because I was never singularly active in fandom before I didn’t expect how much that self-doubt would have an impact. I’m working on being gentler with myself, and with my writing, and I’m hoping that in turn I can get out of my own head and not hold myself back as much.

I have several jossed wwdits fics that would have been so fun if i’d got them out before certain events. But now, I just don’t think they have the same vibe. Like, you could still enjoy them, but because we know what happens next, it kinda detracts from the overall experience.

16.) What are your writing strengths?

I’m pretty good at aping someone else’s style, I try to maintain strong character voices, I’m funny and people tend to like the ideas I have.

17.) What are your writing weaknesses?

If I’m tired of a fic (not necessarily of the fic itself, but of writing it) I often do the bare minimum. Fuck you (marry me) strikes me as an example. People seemed to really like that fic and there were only one or two chapters left, but I had very little motivation to write. The final chapter was written essentially by pushing through until I’d finished it, and certain things I’d tried hard to do in the beginning (e.g. give harrow’s narration a very distinct and obvious voice) fell by the wayside in favour of getting it over with. https://archiveofourown.org/works/50096647

I also often publish barely edited fic for the same reason.

18.) Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fics?

Like it, will do it depending on POV. If the perspective character understands the language, i might write it in English for ease of comprehension. If they don’t, i might write it as is. I would usually put translations in the notes, but I don’t think I’ve actually had occasion to do it so far.

19.) First fandom you wrote for?

On AO3, Be More Chill in 2018. I will not link that, I refuse. (It’s on my page, but it’s archive locked.) In life, i think i was writing self-insert discworld fanfiction around the age of nine or ten.

I wrote it all without external input (I normally publish at least somewhat as I go, but for BRE, we posted it all at once on one day) and I am so proud of myself for getting it done to a level I’m proud of. But not very many people read it, I think partly because it’s a chunky beast to try and get through all at once. So when it comes to the reader response, I’d say my melini cultural history museum series https://archiveofourown.org/series/4190293. So many people have commented on that and for such short pieces, it’s a lot of positive feedback relative to the effort I put into them. But besides my shameful 2018/19 fic, I honestly love everything I’ve put on ao3.

When my best friend died three weeks ago a lot of people I call ‘friends’ reached out with sympathy and support, saying they were there if I need to talk or need anything at all. I do believe some part of them meant what they said. We’ve shared many good times together over the years. I was even pleasantly surprised to hear from someone whose lifestyle I admire that I haven’t talked to in a really long while (I just see their social media posts here and there, and sometimes we chat a bit).

But the truth is - most of those people aren’t quite folks with whom I’d feel comfortable sharing what I’m truly going through, because I don’t actually believe they would be there if I really needed them. I don’t feel I would be heard or understood. Or adequately supported, really.

I feel like I’m the friend people come to with their problems, who can’t turn around and share her problems with those same people.

I reached back out to that one person who I hadn’t heard from in a while just to check in and say I’d love to chat sometime and catch up. This was after I thanked them for their sympathies.

No response.

Actually, a few of these people I’ve considered friends over the years tend to not answer my messages sometimes or at all. I guess I got used to it over the years. Like haha maybe I’ll hear back maybe I won’t! Who knows! And while I get that we’re all busy living our own lives and prioritizing everything, this is also why I don’t feel comfy reaching out to these same people. I can’t, in fact, come to you with anything I need. You are, in fact, too busy with your life, until you’re struggling with something and need someone to talk to, so you reach out to me, or until you finally have a partner and you don’t need to talk to me anymore except when you want to complain about them.

At this point it often feels like we’re just acquaintances rather than the real friends we once were when we were younger.

So of course it all makes me miss my best friend even more because I know she would understand how this feels because we’ve talked about it before and she had been through the same. She was someone I could actually talk to and felt comfortable sharing real things with, and even though she had her own struggles and I know how heavy those were for her, I never doubted when she said she was there for me. And it always filled me with joy to know that when she talked to ME, she felt better about so much, and she felt heard and felt understood. She used to always always say our conversations were so healing for her. I guess I never fully comprehended how healing they were for me too.

I also think this is part of the growing pains of adulting when you really start to diverge from people you met at different stages in your life. I’ve been expecting this, for a few years actually, because the way I want to live my life is not quite the same as the people I’ve come to call friends over the years. Actually one of the reasons I’ve been able to up and move abroad as many times as I have is because of that. People abroad always ask me, don’t you miss your friends from home?? And it’s like lmao what friends, really? At this point my tumblr mutuals get me better than friends from home.

Actually the reason I got onto tumblr was because I had a friend many years ago who did not get my thing for Commander Taylor in Terra Nova, at allllllll, she literally thought it was so gross of me, and I remember I stopped sharing fandom interests with anyone after that day because I just felt so ashamed and embarrassed. I was writing a fic I really loved that I abandoned for seven years because of that, until I started writing fics again.

She was not the first friend to make me feel bad about the things I liked. Just the last person I verbally shared fandom interests with, without fear of judgement.

I could fangirl with my bestie when she was still alive though. We were totally always fangirling about different things. And it was just one of the many things I loved and miss about her.

1. What drew your character to their LI and vice versa?

I’m pretty sure Tallys thought Kyrahlise was hot, so wanted to bang her, lol! Tallys found that Kyrah was good company, relaxed and steady, kind, and thoughtful (both thoughtful of others, and insightful), which certainly helped things along. Kyrah being raised by Elves also made Tallys a little more open with her.

Kyrahlise found comfort in being around someone with a shared culture. Frankly if that hadn’t made her feel at ease so quickly with Tallys, I don’t think she would’ve been okay starting a FWB with her so soon. (Kyrah is demisexual.) Tallys’ calm demeanor, subtle wit, and intelligence, along with their shared interests, like cooking, being out in nature, and being around animals were also big draws to her.

5. How do they comfort each other when they are sad?

Kyrahlise will let Tallys vent if that’s what she needs, but the whole time she’ll stay physically close. Also hugs, lots of hugs, or hand holding! If Tallys initiates an emotional support makeout session after, well Kyrah won’t complain about it in the slightest! Tallys quietly holds Kyrahlise until she’s calmed down some. Then she’ll make her a cup of relaxing herbal tea. Kyrah isn’t much for talking when her emotions are running high, but once she’s come down some she’ll often talk about what’s bothering her. And that’s just a little easier to do with a cup of tea in her hands.

12. Do they have similar goals? If they clash, how do they deal?

They both want to live on their own terms, and adjacent to that, make the world a better place for their fellow Diminished. The possible issues come with their ideas of how to achieve those goals, especially the latter. Kyrahlise doesn’t have the negative view of Norms overall that Tallys has when the game starts. So she's happy to work with Norms to change things, whereas Tallys wouldn’t be to begin with. 

Kyrah has been nudging Tallys towards being less harsh on Norms, and seeing things with more nuance. Hopefully it’s enough to get Tallys to change, because if she stays hating them, that will be a dealbreaker for Kyrah. Indiscriminate hatred of Norms feels too much like some of the hatred Kyrahlise has endured. There’s no way she can stay in a relationship long-term with someone who holds those views, even if those views don’t personally harm her.

24. Is there any moment that happens between them that you know happens and just makes you melt?

So I’m pretty sure this moment will happen in-game, but I think about it a lot. It’s when Tallys first calls Kyrahlise “elan”. Kyrah is going to melt inside, and I will too! I’ve thought of different ways it’ll happen, but I doubt any of my ideas will be as satisfying as the real thing. Otherwise I’d probably try and write a fic about it!

Of course the moment will be especially impactful since Kyrahlise knows exactly what elan means. Plus it’s been so long since anyone has called her that. Her father called her ‘elan’ almost as much as her name. Hearing it again is like a stab in the heart, it brings up a lot of pain but it’s also so very comforting. (Her mother called her something that would translate to ‘little flower petal’ or just ‘little petal’, on account of her hair being rose gold.)

I love love LOVE talking to others about my works, and so getting to talk to yall in the comment section is SO fun for me!!!

6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?

Probably Memory’s Embrace. While it is not my angstiest work by far, I usually throw some comfort in there as well to let it not end angsty. This fic, however, is the only one that truly ends without a happy ending.

I think So If You Will, Please Fall in Love With Me may be my happiest ending. I absolutely adore this fic, I love fluff but don’t write it nearly as much as I’d like to.

8. Do you get hate on fics?

Yup! The Snowjanus fandom, while ever so kind and supportive, also shockingly is full of haters as well! I’ve received everything from death threats to blatant slams of my writing. They make me giggle every time

This is a very tricky question for me. I tend to love things with my entire being when I hyperfixate on them, and then I tend to feel very ‘meh’ about them after. So picking an all time is difficult, since my interests are always fluctuating.

HOWEVER, I would say that Timkon and Drarry are the two that have remained constant. (And while I am new to Andreil, I can already see it becoming another core ship for me)

15. What is a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?

I have an entire half-written Timkon Reverse Robins AU where Tim is red hood, and Kon ends up an accomplice. @sophiasrant has heard way too much about this AU.

As much as I would love to expand upon it and actually finish writing it, I don’t think I’ll ever have the time to do it justice. It would end up as SUCH a long fic (though I do have full written scenes if anyone is ever interested)

I like how I describe emotions and feelings. I am not very good at articulating how I am feeling, but give me a character and suddenly I have a million shades of color to paint the particular emotion they are feeling. I love to be poetic in writing, and I think I sometimes achieve that.

I also think I have a talent with smut, though I am not sure. The feedback would say so, but I literally do not know how to judge smut writing. It always feels cringe, but maybe all smut feels that way.

17. What are your writing weaknesses?

I never plan ahead. Like, ever. I lack discipline and I never do enough editing. As soon as a work is finished it gets posted. There are quite a few works that I know I could have done better, if only I weren’t so impatient. But alas, I cannot make myself wait.

18. Thoughts of writing dialogue in another language in fics?

I’ve only ever done it once, in a fic with Bucky Barnes and Natasha. I feel neutral on the topic. Just do research if you plan on doing it.

19. First fandom you wrote for?

Downton abbey! I wrote it for me and for me only, and then decided to share it. I still never got around to finishing it…

20. Favorite fic you have written?

I have quite a few!!! (Because it’s so hard for me to pick favorites)

All of my favorites are non smut fics. I love the ones where I managed to be particularly poetic, or especially fluffy. Like, the words just flowed, and I was quite happy with the outcomes.

Putting this below a cut as it’s long and is a response to a callout of me. If you'd like to ignore, I wouldn't blame you. Currently rebloggable; will be made non-rebloggable if people cannot behave themselves.

This is in reference to this post. It’s also going to reference ongoing, though, to be honest, relatively minor harassment by at least one other person who ships Imogen and Laudna.

The person making the callout came to my attention shortly after Laudna’s death, in which I came across this post while looking for content on Laudna. I recognized this was in reference to these posts from me, and I've kept an eye on them since. I finally blocked them about a month ago in the hopes that if I did so, they’d stop obsessing over me as they have since their very first post; they even say they made this blog because of me. Unfortunately, they seem to only have escalated in this obsession. 

[Sidebar: it is very interesting the inciting cause was that I seemingly liked Imogen more than Laudna, and now I don’t like Imogen enough, when I’m pretty sure I’ve been about the same on Imogen throughout, but that’s a tangent I’d love to get into another day.]

Anyway, here’s what’s I've done:

I post my opinions a lot on my own blog. This is how blogs typically work.

In those posts I sometimes disagree with statements I’ve seen other people in the fandom make, in a general sense.

I truly almost never reblog someone else’s post with commentary outside of tags unless it’s their reblog on my original post, which is what has this person in a snit right now. (Note: it is not even their post.)

I sometimes disagree with people who ask me questions in my inbox

I don’t find im*dna compelling

That’s it. You’ll have to take it on my word, but I do not send anon hate or indeed any questions other than the occasional ask meme. This is a side blog (which I’m open about in my bio), so I don’t even post replies. It’s reblogs with tags and original posts and that’s it. I don't consider myself an arbiter of the fandom (I actually, in one of the two posts from me linked above, outright say I'm not) and I doubt anyone thinks that of me. I write meta and funny posts and I reblog things. That’s it. Any popularity I have stems from that alone. Honestly, I’d be more popular if I did post positive things about im*dna.

It is not policing or shutting someone down for me to express opinions - even if they are in disagreement with other people’s. It is not policing or harassment to respond to comments on one’s own posts. And it is the tantrum of a spoiled child to claim that it is.

For those wondering: in terms of shutting down and harassment, another blog unrelated to the person I'm linking above (here shown reblogging my post) regularly harasses not just people who don’t ship im*dna, but people who don’t ship them in the same exact way they do. I’m pretty sure this is their side blog, incidentally, given the patterns of fandoms they’ve been in, which, if true, would mean that the second post is block evasion since I’d blocked them on their other one. 

Now, obviously, that’s only one case, and a couple bad apples in a large ship says nothing about most people, but here’s the truth of the matter: despite the harassment above and the general victim complex on display here, Im*dna is far and away the most popular ship for Campaign 3. A check of other popular C3 ships did not even give me a tag follower count. It’s also worth noting Laudna is by far the most popular of the C3 characters; FCG and Chetney don’t even get follower counts on their tags. Im*dna has almost as many fics as some canon Campaign 2 ships do, after far less time. If such a thing as a fandom arbiter existed, and I were one of them? I’d be failing miserably.

Here’s the other truth of the matter. I don’t have any secret insight into Marisha or Laura’s decisions nor any control over what happens in canon. I could stop posting today and it wouldn’t change a thing about what happens on the actual show. I think it’s worth considering why someone primarily known for textual analysis isn’t terribly enamored with a ship, the bulk of the canon content of which stems from unseen backstory or scenes when one of the parties wasn’t even there, but if you're into it? Go ahead.

You know those videos in which a dog is desperately trying to reach something outside of its cage, and they pan out to show that the door is fully open? This is me telling you the door is open. No one is forcing you to see my posts and no one is stopping you from saying what you want. You’re getting in your own way and making yourself mad. If that's what you want to do, that's fine, but leave me out of it.

She had loved that beautiful old Victorian house, with its big front porch and side screenhouse and spire-like structure sticking out from the top of the highest roof, ever since he pointed it out as they drove past once. His childhood home, which now sat old and looming and empty, having fallen into disrepair in the 15 years since someone last lived there. To anyone else, it would look abandoned and unkempt. To her, it was the haunted dream home she always fantasized they would live in together. Just as he was about to lose the property to the bank, she bought it up herself and paid for the repairs necessary to restore it to livable condition. They moved in together, and with his permission and input, even had a few additions built onto it: a library, a greenhouse, and extra bedroom and bathroom. They made the house their own, and finally it began to feel like their lives were moving forward together.

The night the library had been finished, and they had shelved their extensive personal collection of rare occult books, Violet leaned into him, wrapping her arms around him as she rested her head on his shoulders. He hugged her back, letting the palm of his hand lazily rub up and down her back. “I’m exhausted.” she sighed happily.

“Tell me about it. We just did a LOT of hard work. But I’m glad we got all our books shelved today.”

“Yeah…” She sighed. “It’s all finished, and this house feels like a home.” She looked around at all the little details she had planned, the figures of bats and snakes and other strange creatures carved into the decorative corners of the dark wood that framed the deep red wallpaper that adorned the small parts of the wall that weren’t covered by bookshelves. It really felt like it was well and truly theirs, with the personal touches only they would think of. “If you asked me to marry you tomorrow, I’d say yes.”

“What about today?”

She lifted her head up, trying to read his expression. “Ray…”

“I mean it, Violet. I want to marry you.”

Violet’s face flickered from a look of overwhelming joy to one of worry and doubt. “I want to, Ray. You know I do. But, I don’t know if I feel comfortable getting married and starting a family while you’re still doing field work. And, I know you love it, and I love how much you love it, but it’s just so dangerous, and if we’re going to make such a major life change, I would feel a lot more secure if I had to worry just a little less about your life being in jeopardy every day. I’m so sorry, Ray.”

Instead of the disheartened reaction she expected, he only nodded thoughtfully. “I understand. To be honest, I’ve had a lot of the same feelings lately. And, funnily enough, I’ve even started to get a little…bored, with the field work. I was thinking it was because we’ve only been getting small jobs lately, and I wanted some major disaster to happen again just to make things interesting, but all I do all day is think of you and this house and the life we’re building together. Maybe this means I really should move on. Pass the torch, as they say.”

Violet nearly burst into tears. “You don’t have to stop your work with the Ghostbusters completely! You could still work on the tech, and do research!” She rushed out all her words desperately. “I never want to make you feel like you need to give up on something you love, especially not in order to have a life with me!”

“Violet, sweetie, it’s okay!” He moved his hands to the side of her face gently, soothing her. “You’re not making me do anything. This is what I want. I want a life with you. I want to get married and start a family with you. You’re the most important thing in the world to me, and I don’t know what I’d do without you. I love you so much, Violet. I want to live in this home with you and our future children for the rest of my life.”

She smiled. “This is starting to sound like a marriage proposal.”

“Not quite yet.” Although he was already thinking of the jewelry box, once taken out of this home and kept safe by his Aunt Lois, now back in its rightful place on the dresser in the master bedroom, and the ring he knew was inside it, a gold band with a garnet gemstone, the birthstone of his mother. “It’s a promise. I’ll start doing less and less field work, and I’ll find a replacement soon.”

“You mean it?”

“Yeah! In fact, I’ve already got someone in mind!” His nephew, who he had been exchanging letters with for a year now, seemed as interested in the paranormal as his father was repulsed by it. He was turning 20 this year, and he would do well, Ray thought. 

Violet wrapped her arms around his neck, and kissed him. “So good to me.” She kissed him again. “The best.” and again. “I love you, Ray.”

Ray’s cheeks turned bright red, contrasting with the deep brown-orange of his hair, and Violet smirked, self-satisfied. She rubbed the tip of her nose on his. “Now, let’s go lie down on the couch and watch TV until we pass out. My feet are killing me!”
