Me watching my Inquisitor walk off with Solas at the end of the game like :) "aw cute ..hey if Mythal hadn't told you to stop would you have murdered her,," (I haven't played the other endings yet).

This!!!

(Obviously, not murdered her personally, but he absolutely had no qualms about doing the ritual once more - knowing the consequences of it.)

Let me preempt this by saying that I wanted there to be a happy/fulfilling ending to Solas and Lavellan. I'm not a blind hater! Just someone who finds it very hard to put my own Lavellan in the place of the 'Lavellan' provided to us in DATV.

The Solas/Lavellan relationship already was kind of iffy (power imbalance, constantly dragging her culture, removing her vallaslin/then dumping her, constantly lying to her, etc...) but DAI did a great job of making you feel sympathetic towards his plight - especially after Trespasser! He woke up in a world so divorced from his own that it was unrecognizable - the people he had done so much for were suffering from the consequences of his actions, justified as they may have been at the time (stopping the evanuris). His actions led to great suffering in the pursuit of preventing even greater suffering.

Even after we learned of his plans in Trespasser, it was very much: "cool motive, still murder."

I felt sympathetic towards Solas and the implication that we could change his mind, given to us in Trespasser, gave me hope that we would be able to convince him of another path. That he could find a place in Thedas as it is now and look to the future. That was why I chose the option to try and get through to Solas, despite knowing that his plan would lead to mass death/terror if it went ahead.

I always expected the Veil to fall at some point, but i was hoping there'd be some more nuance to it than: veil gone, demons everywhere, lots of people die. Well, I was very wrong lmao.

But, if anything, the game made me entirely unsympathetic towards Solas.

The moment he started his ritual he chose the old elven empire over Lavellan - over her family, friends, home, culture, and anything else she may have loved/valued.

And he did this twice.

He chose to pursue lowering the Veil - knowing that thousands would likely die. For all his insistence of 'minimizing the damage' he went in knowing that many more people would die because of his actions. There was no justification of stopping the evanuris this time either - no excuse of not knowing the potential consequences of his actions like the first time.

He chose to begin the ritual that ended up releasing the Elven Gods - knowing full well the risks it entailed.

He killed Varric - whether by accident or not, it was by his hand.

He chose to use blood magic to manipulate Rook into thinking that Varric was alive - puppeting his corpse around in Rook's eyes and putting his words into Varric's mouth.

He chose to manipulate, mold, and guilt Rook into the old 'switcheroo' in his mind palace/regret prison

He chose to 'free' the elven people by bringing down the Veil - regardless of their feelings about it (elven Rook can call him out on this!), never mind the consequences or ramifications of a bunch of people suddenly having their bodily autonomy overwritten by now being magic/having immortality.

He looked at the devastation caused the by the Gods and still went ahead with trying to bring down the veil again.

These are the thing he does in-game - not even mentioning making the dwarves/titans tranquil, creating the blight, started the chain of events that led to SOUTHERN THEDAS BEING DESTROYED, and taking my good gear from Inquisition!

Aside from the 'all lore leads to Solas' reveal just being really dull it also does nothing to help with making me sympathetic to him as a character. The audacity of this man to say: "it was like walking in a world of tranquil" when he fucking lobotomized the dwarves/titans is wild in retrospect.

If he didn't do the ritual at the beginning, if something else went wrong and that resulted in the God's being released, I could understand why a Lavellan would still want to get through to him. It would make sense - she could stop him from doing it again at the end too! You can still have him conflicted and torn between the restoring the past or pursuing the future - but this doesn't happen!

He never chose Lavellan in this game! Hell, it's Mythal who convinces him to stop?!! He owes her nothing! He's learned nothing from this!!! He's only stopped because Mythal 'pardoned/freed' him - once again showing that he values the ancient elves/mythal over her!!!

How impactful would it have been to have him choose Lavellan over Mythal! To show us this! Mythal, who 'crawled through the ages for a reckoning' (which was retconned to her being sad about the elves lmao) telling Solas to go through with the ritual and him touching grass and saying 'no'.

It's something I feel was wildly out of character for him as well - he never came across in DAI as being subservient to Mythal, if anything the ending cutscene gave me the impression they were equals?!

After everything he did in this game - after all we learn about what he did in the past - I had no interest in reasoning/appealing with his ass. None whatsoever. My inquisitor/Lavellan asking if Solas can be reasoned with only made me regret making that choice - perhaps other people's inquisitor's would say that, but mine would not, especially after everything that happened in game.

She came across as delusional: standing on the ruins of a blighted Minrathous, the south blighted to hell, dead all around them, blight tentacles everywhere, a gaping hole in the Fade right next to them:

Lavellan: "I forgive you! All you have to do is stop." Solas: "But I cannot."

Boom! There it is.

At this point it's not romantic, it's just sad! Sad that she's spent 10 years pining after a man who seemed to learn nothing at all from what happened in DAI.

There should have been some sort of a dialogue option with Lavellan right before you go into the big fight - she can ask you what you think of Solas, if he's truly regretful for everything that happened, and then you can give her an answer that can 'change' her approach to Solas in the end - giving the player some agency as to how their Inquisitor would actually respond to this.

Ending One: Bye Bye Bye

Rook: "HE'S A GUY."

alternatively, "Look around you! Look at what Solas has done - what he's threatening to do even now after all of this! You gave him every chance to turn away from this path. So did Varric...and look at what he did!"

Lavellan is bitter/angry with Solas: "It seems we never were people to you after all."

Refers to him as 'Fen'harel' and not Solas - dig the knife in deeper, give us angst!

"Just go. You love the Fade, don't you? Enough to do all this - enough to kill Varric for your pride in a dead world that no longer exists. We were never 'real' to you, were we?"

Solas says his goodbyes, expresses his love, and Lavellan steps back.

Solas leaves voluntarily, his 'situation-ship very much over', to stew in his regrets for the rest of his life.

Ending Two: Bittersweet Goodbye

Rook: "Girl, it's been 10 years."

alternatively, "You loved him once, perhaps you still do even now - after all he's done - but love wasn't enough. Love does not excuse this."

Lavellan is firm with Solas, does not excuse his actions, but has a bitter sweet farewell: "I had hoped…it doesn't matter what I hoped. You made your choice - it wasn't me. It wasn't our friends. It wasn't this world. You can make a choice now - if I ever mattered you. If I, if our friends, were ever real to you."

They can have a final goodbye, a goodbye smooch, and then he can go off to the Fade.

Bittersweet ending - acknowledge what they had and then provide closure.

Ending Three: Happy Ending (?)

Rook: "He didn't mean it babe. He's tots sorry."

alternatively, "He seems to regret what's happened - I've seen his memories, his regrets. He believes this is the only path he has. Perhaps you can convince him to find another."

Default Lavellan ending basically

"There is no fate but the love we share" blah blah blah

As happy an ending as it can be when you have Lavellan fuck off to the Fade - leaving behind her life, friends, family, and whatever remains of the world for an eternity.

I'm being mean but I genuinely wanted a happy/fulfilling ending for them both too - despite the fact that this game seems to want that ending as well, it did little to convince me of that. :(

I genuinely liked Solas in DAI - despite his flaws, I thought his romance was compelling and I was hoping to be able to convince him to change/alter his path. I can see what they were trying to do with him in DATV but it's so hard to feel sympathy for him when we see/know the results of his actions. The story in this game is doing anything but convincing me to give him a 'happy ending'.

'Love' can't excuse what he did and neither would my Lavellan.

• also they may have good leadership skills and are witty. The only issue with this is that they might be too agreeable sometimes- they want what’s ultimately best for everyone involved. You barely had time to go out with your boyfriend, and it made you feel like a bad girlfriend, even though he constantly reassured you otherwise.

That's why Jisung suggested accompanying you while you studied, saying he would quietly wait for you to finish what you had to do. That way, you could still spend time together, and once you were done, you could relax and cuddle. Two birds with one stone!

That was the plan, but things were proving to be harder than expected, taking longer than you anticipated. Even so, Jisung didn’t seem to mind. He was perfectly content just being near you, offering quiet support whenever he could—like bringing you water or snacks, always careful not to disturb your focus.

“Jisung?” Your voice snapped him out of his thoughts, and he blinked a few times in surprise when he realized his hand was cupping your face. He hadn't even noticed when it moved there.

“S-sorry,” he stammered, pulling his hand away quickly. “I was just, um, it’s nothing, sorry for interrupt.”

You raised an eyebrow, both of you locking eyes in a moment of quiet before you broke it with a playful smile.

"Do you want to kiss me?"

"Yes, please."

The words slipped from his lips before he had a chance to second-guess himself, and though he felt his face heat up slightly, he didn’t try to backtrack. He really did want your attention, even if it was just for a moment.

You couldn't help but laugh at his honesty, the sound making him blush even more. You let go of your pen and turned your body toward him, swiveling your chair closer to where he was.

Leaning forward, you closed your eyes, waiting for him to catch on. Jisung nearly missed the cue, but quickly cupped your face with his large hands and kissed you. The soft hum of contentment that escaped him as his lips met yours were like music to your ears.

His hand slid down to your neck, his thumb gently tracing the back of it before moving down your arm and finally capturing your hand, intertwining your fingers with his.

“Come here a bit,” he murmured against your lips, his voice low and warm. He tugged at your hand, urging you to stand. Without hesitation, you stood up, following his lead as he guided you to sit on his lap.

He leaned back in his chair, one hand gently threading through the strands of your hair at the back of your head, while the other began to caress your thigh, slowly inching upward with each passing second.

“Ji,” you pulled away from the kiss, but he chased your lips again, eager to keep it going. You managed to pull away once more, leaving a trail of soft pecks. “Wait, Jisung,” you chuckled softly, amused by the puppy eyes he was giving you. “I still have to finish my studies, love”

He groaned in annoyance, burying his face in your neck, wrapping his arms around your waist to pull you closer, and pressing soft kisses on your skin.

“Can't you just leave it for tomorrow?” His voice was muffled against your skin.

“No, love,” you chuckled again, your hand gently caressing the back of his head. “I have to finish this right now, so tonight and tomorrow I'll be all yours,” you pulled him away from your neck, gazing at his pouty face. “Sounds good?”

“Not really, I want to be with you right now,” he kissed your lips softly. “But since that’s all I can do, I guess it sounds good…”

“Oh, don’t be like that, my love,” you squeezed his cheeks, giving him a teasing smile. “Just a little longer, and I promise I’ll make it up to you, okay?”

“Alright, alright,” he sighed, clearly giving in. “But... can you at least take a short break from all that studying?”

You pretended to think for a moment, humming. “I suppose I can.”

Relief washed over his face, and he pulled you into a deep kiss.

“Then, please, let me enjoy every second of it.”

Hello hello, I hope I got Reisens personality and such well, did my best. I found out there's 2 characters called that apparently? But I did the one who showed up first, feel free to request again if it was the other one. Thanks for the request!!

Characters may be OOC as I am kinda new to the Forsaken fandom + this would be my first time writting for it but I hope I do them justice! If I get any info wrong, typos/mistakes in writing ect, correct me!! I don't mind :) (Just be kind as I probably didn't know </3)

Noob

They were a bit curious about you when you first showed up. Their attention was quick to float to your ears. Though they wouldn't dare ask to pet them. They figured it would probably be well...not ideal. To be honest, they were a bit shy to talk to you, not that you were scary or even that they fell in love at first sight, they just aren't used to meeting new people after enduring the Spectres "Game" for so long. He feels like they lost their ability to communicate with more people outside of the other survivors.

Your first true "meeting" may be the first round you started in, the abilities you seemed to have were more supportive. Being able to heal them and stunning the enemy. It was all very helpful and they experienced it first hand when you were quick to their rescue, healing them before stunning the killer to let them get away. Despite your short time here you were able to get the hand of your abilities.

They don't mind your acting differently, I feel they'd catch on it's usually based on what's happening. They'd ask once or twice about how you truly act underneath everything but is completely understanding if you don't want to. They want you to be comfortable as he knows the circumstances right now are...less than ideal. They're patient with you, especially when they finds out you don't easily get along with humans as you came from somewhere else. They'll give you time though, they try to get you to be more comfortable as who knows how long it'll take before you can escape?

Guest 1337

A bit on edge, not that he thinks you're a killer, there's a reason why the Spectre put you with them after all, but you don't seem to get along with most of the survivors, not only that but how you act seems different sometimes, he does notice it'll change depending on the situation and/or who you're talking too but he wants to know the true you. He won't pry if you don't want him too but he'll keep an eye on you just encase.

Your abilities in rounds is incredibly useful, if or when the two of you ever team up to help another survivor both of your stuns help them get away, and being able to heal him and others is always a plus. As time goes on and you slowly seem to get more and more along with others, the more rounds the two of you spend with each other the more he lowers his guard around you. The less on edge he is with you.

He wants to build trust with all the survivors, and as cheesy as it may be, if they ever want to escape, teamwork will be their best option which is why he was a bit cautious when he noticed your initial attitude to the others and how differently you acted, it seemed as though you didn't trust them yet either, but with how long you've been here he's figured that's changed.

Chance

Didn't meet you until the start of the new round, he'd racked up a high stack weakness and was sure he was a goner, the killer hot on his trail until you showed up quickly stunning the enemy. Grabbing his hand and running off before the stun cooldown was over. You had brought him over to Elliot and with 2 healers now on his side he was able to gain back the HP he had lost.

He finds you quite amazing, tries chatting with you outside of rounds, asking about you. He did notice your hesitation which he later found out was because you weren't from Robloxia. That didn't stop him from trying to talk to you, you were stuck with them after all. Besides, seeing you help them and other survivors in rounds? You're not a bad person, you just need time.

If or when you two become closer friends they promise you that if or when you escape he'll take you to his favourite places. If this was your first time on Earth, then that's not a good impression. He'll show you how it's really like if you'd let him.

Two Time

They're so excited to meet you, it's been awhile since they had a new survivor with them. They're quick to try and tell you about the Spawn but can't continue as the round starts. They'll make sure to inform you when you're out.

You two make a good team they reckon, your stuns allow them to preform back stabs better. As long as they stick by your side they'll be able to land each one and they can't help but thank you each time. Expect them to follow you around if they know a killer is near, it'll benefit the both of you they promise!!

They don't mind how you seem to switch up how you act, they can quickly see it's just you adapting to what's happening and honestly? They kind admire that, plus you're listening to them whenever they ramble. Whether or not if it's even about the Spawn so you're good in their books for now. They'll be honoured if you showed your true colours to them.

"Not another one..." was all he thought when you came into the cabin, he's not annoyed by your presence, far from it. He almost feels calmer when you're around but his annoyance is directed at the very thing making them do these games. There didn't need to be another survivor, there wasn't a need to bring someone into this damn hell again. He pushes that aside and helps you settle in the best he can.

He does his best to explain everything to you, and he isn't fazed by how you act, he's patient with you as you learn to be more comfortable around them. He knows it's hard to settle in and he'd hate if the other survivors disliked you in anyway, he truly hopes what he does is helping you.

Before rounds, he lets you know that one of his kids is a killer. Calmly explaining why, he figured the more you knew about the killers the better, perhaps you can help plan strategies so no more deaths happen. If the killer is C00lkid he'll try to draw his attention away from you if you're on low health. He'll be in danger sure but it'll be better to have healers live, plus he has get a ways.

Elliot

Oh he could cry tears of joy. Finally another healer. He didn't need to be the only one to hear the barks of others as they run low on HP and scrambles to find them. Another healer also means you'll be able to heal each other if neither of you can find a medkit or one of Buildermans machines. He works with you during rounds, as soon as he sees you loose health he's quick to throw you a pizza if he can.

Outside of rounds though he's still kind but finding out you dislike humans due to not being from Earth he decides to back off a bit. He'd rather not make you feel uncomfortable, especially since he may be relying on you for heals. He does not want a bad relationship with you and you not healing him. Not that you would probably but he's just making sure.

If you help out in the kitchen when he cooks food for the other survivors in-between rounds he'll be grateful, you'll be one of the people he trusts the most even if it takes you a bit longer to do the same. He'll never pry when he notices how differently you act depending on what happens, unless it seems to be negatively affecting other people.

Taph

He shows you their traps first, yes quite the introduction to someone but he doesn't want you to be surprised when he uses them or if you see it. He writes on paper and hands it over unsure if you really knew sign but this would be the best way. He explains what his things can do and apologies for the loud sounds his bombs will create. Sure the blast somehow doesn't affect the other survivors, but you have big ears!! You'll hear the explosion better than anyone if you're near (unless your the killer setting it off but it'll still be loud!), he doesn't want to hurt your ears but he can't help the sound of the bombs.

If you're willing he's happy to teach you sign so the two of you can communicate better, probably the quickest to notice how well you adapt how you act depending on the situation and it can help. You were able to calm down Noob once when it was just yourself and him at low HP when in the previous round you were actively looking for Elliot so he could heal you. He does recommend to let down any walls you have with them when you're ready. You're not alone, you're in this together.

Builderman

I feel like he knows who you are already, or at the very least knows you're not from Robloxia. Likely because of well...of his position, similar to Taph he tells you how his abilities work alongside others. He doesn't want you to go head in and be confused by everything you're doing and what others are doing. He even gives you tips on how to survive. Pick up bloxy colas, medkits. The killers have a theme when they're near so keep an ear out but he figured you'll probably won't have a problem with that being a rabbit hyrbid.

He's so thankful when you stun a killer as he's putting up another machine, he can't stop himself once he starts building leaving him vulnerable to attacks so having you save him and multiple occasions makes him smile. He doesn't care for how quickly you adapt how you act depending, not that he isn't aware or things like that but he isn't going to question it. That's how you are after all.

Shedlesky

He's happy to have another one honestly, not in the sense that he enjoys the games he's playing (plus one of the killers has a personal vendetta against him so...) but god has he been deprived of all other human interaction...well okay you said you weren't a human (which he did know, similar reason to Builderman) and you were a moon rabbit of sorts but honestly? You're able to have a conversation with him right? It's a new face he's content with that.

Has once tried to get you, Guest 1337 and Two Time to all well...bully the killer with constant stuns, it worked the first few times (Mainly as the each round had a different killer) but they eventually caught on. It was fun while it lasted. If you apologise for seeming like you dislike them he'll understand, he found out you weren't even from their planet so it makes sense to him, he figured it would be hard to fully adapt to them anyways AND their situation.

Dusekkar

He calls out how you act towards them and how quickly you adapt in situations as soon as he can. Okay he doesn't call it out but he's quick to realise and question it in private. Not that it was a bad thing, many people change how they act depending on their friends and what's happening, plus you weren't from here. He understands but he still wants a small conversation about it. He doesn't stop you if you continue acting that way but subtly recommend that they mean no harm and outside of rounds you can act like yourself. No one will judge, and if someone does? Well he'll scold them don't worry.

Just like Builderman and Shedlesky he knew rather quickly you weren't from Robloxia but he doesn't care, though it does make him think about how willing the Spectre is to take people not even from their planets. Could they take others from different universes too? What fun do they got out of this. He doesn't let the thoughts fester too much, focusing on making sure you're settling in well.

Reckless Reader being saved by him while chasing grim

Format: Headcanons

Warnings: Mentions of possible Injuries(Nobody actually gets Hurt)

Malleus

-It's already rather late, Malleus is on another one of his evening walks.. when he suddenly hears someone running, and you shouting

-He decides to check it out, because chances are, you're being reckless again. Also because he would get to see you again :) Nevermind that he saw you earlier during classes

-When he does, he, just as expected, saw you chasing after Grim once again, who knew what the little guy had done this time? He decided to just watch at first- at least until you once again decided to do something awfully reckless

-Grim decided to go down a steep staircase, and instead of running after him, you decide to jump down the stairs, in oder to catch up faster. And if there is one thing Malleus knew, it was the fact that humans are rather fragile, and that you would break your legs doing this Jump

-While very much shocked, he acted almost on impulse, the young fae Prince pulls out his Pen and stops you mid air. Being the powerful mage that he is, you can't wriggle yourself out of his magics grip. Once he sat you down at the top of the staircase, he was kind enough to also get Grim back

-A soft smile settles on his face as he questions your antiques, wondering if you weren't aware of your own fragility. You are, you just decide to ignore it!

-After sending Grim home, he asks you to join him on his nightly walk, he would love to know more about your impulsive decisions! He really just wants to know more about you in general. And in typical Malleus fashion, he doesn't even notice the faint blush on your cheeks!

-He tells you to call him, should Grim cause trouble again, he knows he wouldn't be able to change your reckless nature. And he doesn't want to- it is another part of you, and he loves all of you. He just doesn't want you to get hurt <3

Leona

-He has never been awake this fast.

-Leona was just once again napping in the botanical garden- When the sound of shouting woke him up, yours and Grim's shouting to be precise. He didn't think much of it, this happend pretty often after all, but nonetheless he decided to lazily open up one eye

-And thank the seven he did, because now he was very much awake and staring at you, as you climbed one of the tallest trees in the entirety of the garden.

-Turns out, Grim has decided to climb up a tree, and you being you, went after him. Well, people tend to be heavier than cats, so eventually a branch broke underneath you.

- The tree you were on wasn't at all small, the fall would very much end in multiple broken bones, if not worse!

-He quickly pulled out his pen, catching you. Grim got away in the end, while Leona scolded you told you off. He complained about your antics interrupting his nap, and that he won't catch you next time. He absolutely will, and the actual reason he's upset about your antics is that it worry's him

-He might just force you to stay with him, so that you, and i quote; "Won't cause any more trouble", but really he just wants to be close to you. But then again, could it really be considered forcing, if you willingly agree? who'd say no to napping with their crush, after all ;)

-He might occasionally glance at you, while trying to go back to napping. He isn't entirely sure how he fell for someone as reckless as you, but you know what they say: Opposites attract :)   

Riddle

-It was just supposed to be a normal unbirthday party.

-Riddle, of course, invited you, like he always does! Pretty much the entire dorm except maybe Deuce know about his crush on you by now And you in Grim were pretty much a package, you invite one, the other comes along.

-Riddle doesn't mind, of course! He does Who was he to demand time alone with you, it's not like your dating! He really wishes you were... were it not for Grim being such a trouble maker

-Grim had decided to throw a tantrum after not getting "fed enough", as in, he got the same amount of tarts as everybody else, before running off. You run after him, and in turn Riddle goes after you, as he already knows how reckless you can be

-And thank the seven that he did, as just as he finally catches up, he sees you trying to jump over a Rose bush to get to Grim- Sure it would break no bones, but the amount of thorns could severely cut you, and leave scars, or worse get infected!- The small Redhead is panicking to say the least

-He quickly takes his pen and uses magic to pull you back, almost making you bump into him in his panic!

-He scolds you almost immediately, if you were a part of his dorm he would have collared you! He wouldn't have, this man plays favorites Though you can't help but notice how not even once he brought up how you could have ruined the Roses or your Uniform.. All he cared bout was your health! And that made you happy, I mean, your crush actually cares about you!

-After helping you catch Grim, the party was already over, so he bids you farewel, sending you back to ramshackle, before both of you return to your respective rooms to comprehend the situation and blush :)

Azul

-How someone as organized as him could fall for someone as reckless as you? He doesn't know, but he did.

-This is proven as, just like always, he personally came to attend to you when you came to eat dinner at the Mostro lounge. He says it's because it's a busy night, but really it's an excuse to see you! And you don't question it because you get to spend more time with him because of it! 

-But alas, Grim didn't wanna behave, so after being told that they were out of his favorite food, he took of and somehow climbed onto one of the lamps. 

-You weren't having it, not today. You usually try to hold your reckless nature back in front of Azul, not wanting to terrify your crush, but Grim's tantrum just ruined the great conversation you were having with Azul ,ordering desert!

-So, you climb onto your seat and leap at the lamb! Considering you aren't focused on landing properly, but on catching grim, chances are very high you'll Hurt yourself, most likely straining your ankle

-So, Azul being a Gentleman, as well as not wanting to taint his reputation by letting a guest get hurt He'll hate himself if he just let's you get hurt, uses his magic to catch you, as he isn't the strongest physically 

-He sends the eels after Grim while taking you to the VIP lounge. You think he's about to ban you for live, but actually he checks up on you, making sure you weren't injured in the process of the jump, as well as that his magic had no side effects 

-You do have to stop him from banning grim for live

-He may just draft up a contract about being more careful with your antics, or to at least think twice before acting, you don't even realize how much you worry him! You most likely refuse, knowing that you can't just stop yourself from, well, being yourself. But he does make you sign a contract to not speak about what happened.

-You leave, smiling to yourself, now knowing that your crush cares about you, as he sits in his office blushing about the whole situation, just hoping the twins don't walk in 

First Riddle request!! Very exited because I love the mini Tyrant <3 Also, for Azul's part, for one line, I wanted to originally write 'Your crush' but decided to change it to Azul, and almost published this with it saying 'your Azul' I-

Ranting

When I think of it as a whole, the plot is pretty much very obvious where it's going.

We have the Bone Carver in ACOWAR foreshadowing the corruption of the Cauldron when he said that some creatures manipulated it and it became a weapon of destruction, which shows that SJM had a plan from the start and just developed it gradually. Then Feyre observes how Azriel treats her sister and how he seems like the one for her. She even asks why he wasn’t chosen to be her mate,why Lucien? So Rhys explains that Elain can reject the bond and that sometimes bonds are created randomly, not meaning the two are soulmates or even good for each other. But Fae try to make it work believing the Cauldron chose them for a reason,so they end up miserable. That bowl was directly accused of having a distorted system, with its swirling eddies that wrongly match people solely for breeding purposes.

Rhys explained all that, but he wasn’t really taking it seriously. For him, Az is in love with Mor and must be asking himself why the bond hasn’t snapped between them. Also, Rhys in fact is bond biased.

During ACOWAR, we got major hints,like the rescue scene, Azriel discovering Elain is a seer while her so called mate thought she’d lost her mind, the Truth-Teller scene and from ACOWAR to ACOSF, Elain and Azriel were slowly getting closer. Meanwhile, she completely refuses to be with someone she doesn’t know, just because fate says so. That’s the main thing here, most Fae try to make the bond work even if they’re not truly interested in each other, just because the bond must have snapped for a reason. And that’s exactly what Lucien is trying to do, even though he knows Elain wants nothing to do with him ,he literally said so himself. And Elain is refusing these Fae beliefs, as she should.

Some people love to act like the bc is the only proof of the Cauldron being wrong, but no ,that was a huge plot established in the main books. They just love to ignore it. The bc was just a reminder of what Feyre already said in ACOWAR. Azriel basically repeated the same idea: he doubted the Cauldron’s mate matching system and said it could be wrong. His POV also proved that what people around him assume about him being completely in love with Mor and never moving on is wrong. And eventually, he was thinking about Elain being his mate. Not Mor. Not anyone else.

HOFAS revealed some very important things that developed the plot further, especially with Azriel’s presence. It confirmed the corruption of the Cauldron (remember, this was foreshadowed by the Bone Carver), explained a lot about the Daglan and how they exploited the Fae (which matters, since the Cauldron operates under their system), and Nesta saying Fae believe the Cauldron controls their fates was, for me, very important. Later, it was proved wrong when it was revealed that the Mother is the true governor of all worlds and the Weaver of Fate. She’s the real creator of bonds, which explains that the Cauldron is an imposter, copying the Mother’s work in a distorted way. So, long story short, the Cauldron is wrong. And that’s what Elain’s book will end up revealing. Elain is the one who has the power to change this situation, to change the fae wrong beliefs about the mating bond and how they treat the female as a belonging to her mate, Elain is the one who has the ability to fix the Cauldron.

But according to some people, all this long ass plot buildup is going to lead to us opening the next book and finding out that all the characters were hallucinating. The Cauldron isn’t wrong. The plot is that Elain will sell herself to Koschei, Lucien will save her, and she’ll decide to give him a chance, no longer caring about “love would trump even a mating bond.” She’ll just realize how much of a good male he is, fall in love with him, and beg him for forgiveness. A plot of poor Lulu my baby deserves the world

And Azriel? Oh, btw Gwyn is your mate.

Byakuya is stronger than me because if my baby genius son senku refused any of my loving parent hug or kissie i would literally cry in my bed after pretending to go take a nap

This above was the original post, but actually i decided to make it into a more developped observation of Byakuya and Senku relationship and why they have the best anime father-son bond ever.

I would like to remind that everything that is said is about two characters that have a completely different personality and way of handling things, and so the argument "they both love science" isn't enough to explain why they have a better bond than any other anime father-son, and why Byakuya is best father.

First of all and the one everyone knows, Byakuya always gave his support and sacrified for Senku. He takes his parent responsabilities to heart and never questions his son's path.

He knows Senku likes to make things by himself, that he enjoys learning by tests and errors, and he never tried to stop him. On the contrary, he sold his car to have money to prepare a whole laboratory for Senku. Of course not any family could afford selling their car, or lending freely all money amouts, but it's not a meaningless decision either. A whole laboratory, for his son, because he knew Senku wants to do it himself and Byakuya would rather let go of things he likes than seeing Senku being stopped in his passion.

After the first pretrification, Byakuya first goal was Senku (normal for a parent lol), but then his goal changed to helping Senku in every way possible for when he wakes up. Something that no one could be sure to happen.

He knows he'll die long before it could happens, so he created a village just so Senku could have people to help him. A whole VILLAGE that he made surviving with his stories of knowledge for THOUSANDS of years so Senku wouldn't be alone in his quest of reviving everyone and would get help. Oh and also made the people of the village transmit for generations a message for his son. All this time. That's crazy how he never gave up. He also spent the rest of his life collecting platinium, until he died there. He sacrified his health and life because that's his genius son and that's enough reasons for him. (It's actually crazy if you rewatch the anime you'll see everything he does is for his son)

Next point is the affection showed between them. Senku is Byakuya joy and pride, he never stopped telling it in his way to absolutely everyone. Senku is aware of the love Byakuya has for him, which is very important for a child growing up to know you have your dear ones that care and will care whatever happens.

He doesn't belittle his father emotions at all (Senku isn't the kind to not care about people feelings btw but that's another story). When the Jaxa was looking for astronauts again, he made a swimming costume because he knows his father isn't doing great, but more importantly he did it because he knew how much he was waiting for the opportunity to show up and how much it would mean to him to pass the test.

All this brings me to the next point, the unbreakable trust between them. If he wasted his life with labor work at collecting ore, if he made a village when he just could have waited death, if he made a recording of the last song of humanity, it was all because he trusted Senku to find it. He trusted his capacities, he trusted his hardworking mind, he trusted his cartesian brain to not give up. He based everything of the small chance that he'll wake up, but he knew that if he ever does, he would 100% find the remedy to the petrification.

And on Senku's side, he trusted Byakuya way of helping him. Of course he couldn't guess what he did for him at first. But the second he understood Byakuya came back alive from space and did something for him, he trusted that Byakuya wouldn't give up on him and would try his best.

Neither of them ever put in question their bond, they are father and son, whatever people say, whatever if they aren't blood-related, they are linked by the love and trust they hold for each other. They know and they agree to it completely.

What makes their relationship interesting is that not any of this is said directly/openly, because firstly they doesn't need to (with all that they did for each other) and also because Senku doesn't communicate this way at all. Actually Byakuya and Senku have a completely different love language : Byakuya is very open and outspoken, but Senku is the opposite, using actions as a way to express love. So Byakuya adapted and did things that shows to his son that he cares, like the laboratory or the years of work post petrification for exemple. He almost expressed his love on the song record, but he didn't because he knows Senku knows. They just know, they trust and they believe.

All that explain why they have the best relationship. Also this would explain why everyone seems attracted to Senku's science. There is passion in it. There is the love and care, there is the enjoyement of showing to others how science is cool. No wonder, that's what Byakuya did to Senku his whole life. Byakuya didn't teach him science, he taught him passion and perseverance.

I'm not a fan of how they treat the Intelligentsia Guild.

Their major achievements, like the synesthesia beacon, are implied to either be acquired from Genius Society members at best or just stolen from them at worst. Their supposed good qualities, like having a goal of spreading knowledge or admitting everybody who wants to learn, aren't emphasized at all.

And it's not like this faction is too unimportant for the writers to care about. They kind of dedicated a whole Simulated Universe update to it, right?

But instead, the main goal of the Unknowable Domain, IG-wise, seemed to be to just hammer in the idea of how awesome the GS's members are by showing how worthless the IG is, even despite getting access to the scepters.

That whole story was mostly about their pathetic inner squabbles. And culminated in the revelation that the IG's best mind, with her brainpower multiplied thousands of times by the scepters, wasn't even close to being a match for a genius.

Like yeah, we get it, geniuses are born special, and there is no way for a normal person to get even close no matter what they do. Don't even try. Awesome moral, I love that. But did we even need a whole Simulated Universe update to prove that? (BTW I'm not a big fan of that idea, it undermines both the achievements of the GS member and the struggles of normal people)

GS members are basically immortal demigods with their powers rivaling (if not surpassing) the powers of Aeons (can Nanook or Lan destroy a galaxy like Chadwick did? Can Yaoshi create intelligent life, like Ruan Mei did?) So I'm not surprised that the writers don't even try to compare them to the normies from the IG them in any meaningful way.

So they are kind of worthless as a faction by themselves.

But the IG doesn't even work as a narrative foil for the GS:

We never see them achieving anything through teamwork as opposed to the GS's rugged individualism.

We don't see examples of their willingness to share knowledge or being interested in humans' affairs, as opposed to the GS's dedication to science for science's sake and to Nous personally.

We don't see them doing something useful, as opposed to the GS's members' epic vanity project.

We don't see them achieving things through hard work, as opposed to GS's members just being gifted.

We don't see them showing strength through sheer numbers, as opposed to the GS only having several active members.

So why does it exist at all as a faction?

I mean narratively? They are tainted by their close association with the IPC. But the IPC has a perfectly functioning Technology Department, and the IG currently functions just as its additional external version. They are hardly an independent faction at this point, but rather an appendage of the IPC.

It doesn't work as Dr. Ratio's home faction either. With the exception of a couple of lines in his character stories, nothing would have changed if he was in the GS or wasn't a member of any faction at all (guess who made a whole post about it). I mean him being in the IG might finally play a role in Dr. Ratio's story one day (see below) but what are the chances. I mean we don't even have a "Dr. Ratio story" to begin with.

And one last point. Nobody blames Herta for what Dr. Primitive has done. We understand that the GS is a group of separate individuals.

But the IG is seen as a homogeneous mass to the point of people side-eyeing (or even directly blaming) Dr. Ratio for what the IG did millennia before he was born.

in honour of me deciding to appease my 2021 self by going to a genshin event this week, here's how i'd rewrite sumeru if i were given the chance. note that this is solely based off of the in-game themes and lore that i still remember, and i quit pretty early on. so. warning for canonical inaccuracy.

also, this is a traveller-less rewrite. i love aether/lumine, but i think their reputation as the "hero" often ends up taking away other characters' autonomy. the MC being capable of practically everything means that we don't get as many moments where other characters realize they have to step up. anyway, that's enough yapping. thoughts under the cut <3

PLOT

the general flow of the plot would be kept the same, but here's a list of points i want to include:

the sages don't imprison nahida by any physical means. instead, they take advantage of the fact that she's the first/central akasha terminal. the sheer volume of requests the sages send to the akasha causes her to be a) constantly overstimulated, therefore locking herself in the sanctuary of surasthana, and b) unable to use her mind for herself, which takes away her biggest source of power

another reason nahida is unable to communicate with the people is because the akasha is actively diminishing the population's cognitive capacities

the first person to realize that critical thinking is declining among the citizens of sumeru is, of course, alhaitham. he notices that a lot of people have stopped using figures of speech. instead, everyone seems to speak the same way, which he finds unsettling.

at the same time, the sages have enlisted kaveh to redesign the akademiya's buildings for "efficiency". that's right. they're making kaveh do minimalism. the horror ! the intrigue ! what did they do to get him to agree (i will cover this later when i talk about his character)

(this one is a WIP) as the manifestation of the withering in people, i'd want eleazar to have more notable psychological effects. distortion of memories/dreams would be my first instinct. since the withering is also linked to the remains of greater lord rukkhadevata, i think collei would be the first person to see irminsul and hear the words "world, forget me" (instead of the traveller).

i'd keep the samsara arc, but instead of having nilou host the dream, the host changes during every "reboot". the beep everyone hears at the end of the day isn't just the dream restarting, but also a confirmation that a new host has been found. of course, every person's dream would still have features unique to them. because i love kaveh, i'd like to write a dream hosted by him at some point -- with his dream's defining factor being that his parents are still in sumeru city.

the sages are still trying to make scaramouche a god btw.

i want the tale of king deshret's civilization and the introduction of forbidden knowledge to be basically lost history. it would be so interesting to have the characters wonder if the desert's mysterious machines hide the secret to defeating scara, only to eventually find out that the sages are just repeating deshret's sins. it would also be interesting to see people wish for deshret to return without knowing exactly why he fell in the first place

speaking of the desert, i'd like the conflict between the akademiya and the desert people to focus at least a little on the destruction of history in the pursuit of "progress". the sages are willing to overwrite the past whenever it's convenient for them, so there's no way they can be entrusted with the knowledge/culture of the desert. but then again, i'm actually not too sure why hoyo wrote the desert/forest conflict the way they did in the sumeru main story, so i could be missing something crucial here. let me know!

tying nahida's imprisonment to the akasha system does also mean that the cast needs to find a way to dismantle it before freeing her, which is something i haven't quite figured out yet (sigh). i was thinking of doing something along the lines of how alhaitham broke the hivemind in his story quest.

you know that theory that's like "nilou is the reincarnation of the goddess of flowers and [other character] is the reincarnation of deshret"? while i don't fully agree with it, i'd like to introduce some mechanism by which the main cast can draw power from the memories of those gods (perhaps using nahida as a conduit). memory is such a prominent motif in sumeru, and it would make such a perfect antithesis to how collei's eleazar was once suppressed using a dead god's remains, resulting in her having uncontrollable powers. useful powers through honouring the past vs terrible power through exploiting it. do you see the vision

CHARACTERS

okay, now for points relating to individual characters!

nahida

i don't have much to change about her personality, but here are a few points i'd like to add to her:

metaphors metaphors metaphors! i know she already speaks pretty metaphorically, but i don't want to just play it off for humour ("haha nahida why are you talking like that"). i want her to get weird and creative with them!! use symbols that people wouldn't expect !!

a core problem with nahida attempting to take control of sumeru again is that if the akasha has made everyone unable to learn for themselves, she can't really spread knowledge to the people. i think this could make for an incredibly interesting character arc. nahida initially tries to make herself seem more like an archon of wisdom and plays into the akademiya's stereotypes of wisdom/intelligence, using very specific language and explaining things literally to people (as the sages/traditional academics might do). in the end, she realizes that her personal style of teaching -- using fairy tales and stories as metaphors -- is far more effective

note: while the official lore doesn't confirm that rukkhadevata is the "ruler of yesterday and tomorrow morning" mentioned in one of the sumeru books, it's such a powerful idea that i'd like to make it the basis of her identity in this rewrite. it encapsulates the importance of memory -- how the past informs the future. this both connects back to irminsul and explains nahida's biggest weakness. she does not have nearly as much lived experience, and thus, she has less memories to draw power from.

kaveh

kaveh's my favourite genshin character, which is why this whole thing is a little biased towards him. but honestly, it's hoyo's fault for stating he's canonically the closest to nahida's ideal of wisdom and then not putting him in the story.

of all the sumeru characters, i feel like he'd be the most opposed to the akademiya defunding the arts and focusing solely on progress. in such an environment, i imagine that he'd feel like he never has enough time to process everything, which also plays into the concept of "debt". he feels like he owes the universe everything he has failed to preserve.

i'd like kaveh's mother to send him the occasional letter. in each one, she seems to get a little further from who she used to be, giving him the feeling that the past is slipping away. i want him to wish that he could stop or rewind time, and for this wish to eventually bring him to the orchard of pairidaeza (the time-stop place underneath the desert). i'm not entirely sure why -- i just think it would fit.

in a similar vein: the reason he agrees to help the akademiya redesign their buildings in a minimalist style is not because they offer him money, but because they threaten to destroy all the notebooks and papers his mother contributed to their library. you know, the last evidence that she was ever an architect.

alhaitham

hoo boy. alhaitham. while i love his current character, the sumeru story didn't really challenge him in any meaningful way. he kind of just. handled it all. and that's ... kind of disappointing? i'm not saying we should overstimulate him for sport or anything, but i'd try something like this:

have alhaitham be a parallel to scaramouche. NOW BEFORE YOU GUYS YELL AT ME. HEAR ME OUT

both alhaitham and scaramouche are heavily influenced by their respective pasts, but neither of them really acknowledge it. in scaramouche's case, he's actively trying to repress his memories. alhaitham is a bit different -- we know his grandmother had a big influence on him, but i cannot remember a single time that he has brought her up. i don't think he's actively trying to forget her, but i presume he usually just focuses on other things. at the beginning of the story, i'd characterize alhaitham as someone who usually neglects past issues in favour of current/future ones. he would think this is an efficient, more peaceful way to live. as the story progresses, he gradually realizes that neglecting the past is not a strength, but rather something that makes you more susceptible to repeating your previous mistakes.

he doesn't need to become excessively sappy or nostalgic to accomplish this. it would mostly happen through small, fleeting moments. for example, the sages get rid of some of the books in the house of daena because they're "old and redundant", and alhaitham realizes this makes him uncomfortable.

meanwhile, scaramouche becomes wrongly convinced that you can only be successful if you rid yourself of your past. even though both of them start with similar ideologies, they end up as vastly different characters. which would be !! so interesting !!

collei

COLLEI NATION !!! ILOVEHERILOVEHERILOVEHER.

collei is a perfect example of the importance of memory, if only because of how deeply she values amber. and the fact that she had to learn how to read after arriving in sumeru makes her a perfect addition to the story's exploration of language. also, the fact that her favourite stories are fairy tale picture books? which exactly aligns with how nahida prefers to tell stories? collei is the true main character of sumeru and none of you can tell me otherwise. i am dying on this hill

HEAR ME OUT. since there's no traveller, i want collei to be the one who defeats scaramouche in the end. there are a lot of more powerful characters, but her lore perfectly aligns with scara's. as an example, collei's doll (cuilein-anbar, named after amber) is a great parallel to the doll scaramouche's friend once made for him.

we can tell from collei's ascension voiceline (even if it's a life-or-death situation, i'll never need to rely on their power again) that she wants to develop her own set of skills; that way, she'll never need to call on the power that was sealed within her. this makes her a great character for the scaramouche fight. when the traveller does it, they use the knowledge of everyone in sumeru. similarly, we could see collei willingly learn different skills from different characters throughout the story. that way, it feels natural for her to tap into all of that knowledge during the climax -- just like aether/lumine does. do you see it. do you see the vision

candace

collectively we are sleeping on candace. this includes whoever wrote her character stories. they were also sleeping on candace.

like alhaitham, i'd also like candace to have a bit more of an internal struggle. her character stories don't offer us much ("candace was not depressed" -- ah. okay,,,?), but we do get the hint that she always has to have her guard up. she has to remain calm at all times. she can't really wear the cute trinkets she buys. i feel like there could be a really interesting conflict between her determination to protect everyone and her innate desire to be someone else.

there is a lot that candace can teach the other characters about language, which is a Core Sumeru Motif! the way she speaks in the story is actually really unique, given that people come to her for Divine Guidance TM. this could add to the ongoing idea that objective/academic language is not necessarily the best way to communicate with people.

dehya

not too much to say here -- her character works well as is!

i would lean a little more into the fact that she keeps returning to the desert, no matter what. this could directly conflict with her desire to obtain a position where she can help her loved ones live better lives. she wants them to break free of the restrictive mindset they've developed due to the harsh conditions of the desert. if she remains a mercenary, she may never have that sort of influence, but can she really tolerate working somewhere like the akademiya? this is especially interesting considering alhaitham asks her to join the akademiya himself at some point (IIRC).

i think she could have a really interesting friendship with nilou, though. they are vastly different people and yet they both have an appreciation for beauty. they both also want to live a carefree life. i think it would be so fun to see them bond, and we could have some cool scenes where they teach each other how to fight/dance :)

nilou

speaking of nilou,

i think it would be interesting to dive deeper into why the akademiya is defunding the arts. it could be because of their subjectivity, or because they don't really "advance the current state of knowledge" in sumeru. in any case, it would be fun to have the conflict stem from the sages' desire to intellectualize everything. it would definitely clash with nilou's carefree personality.

out of everyone, nilou would be most affected by the negative side effects of the akasha. it diminishes her creativity, leading her to feel burnt out. i would love to have an arc where nilou feels uninspired, but later realizes it's because her access to instantaneous knowledge has made her stop observing the world around her.

it would be really cool if nilou could see the aranara. for no particular reason tbh. i just think it fits her

i haven't read the lore for these characters, but if this idea ever comes to fruition, rest assured that they will be added :)

just one thing:

the dendro archon is the avatar of irminsul, which contains all the world's memories. this, in itself, is a form of "eternity". i imagine that's part of why he agreed to try and overtake nahida in the first place. it was another shot at holding onto "eternity".

I think the anniversary of Edmund’s death is still a tough day for Anthony. and it’s honestly really mixed the first year he and Kate are together because it’s obviously a really hard day for him but it’s also the anniversary of him meeting Kate and them inadvertently creating Neddy. It’s a hard day. And Kate knows it’s coming. The day kind of sticks in your mind when it was the day your life changed forever.

“Do you um… have any plans on Saturday?”

Anthony’s spine prickled at the sound of his girlfriend’s voice, and his hands froze in the dish soap. He cleared his throat, “I ah…”

Kate leaned against the bench beside him, her eyes watching him carefully. “I’m not trying to trick you, I just… I remember what day it is and I want you to know that I’m here for you. Whatever you need, Babe.”

Anthony wrapped his arm around her, careful not to let his soapy hand touch her. “I’ll probably just be a bit quiet. All I’ll need is you and Neddy, promise.”

“Well, we’ll be here.” Kate kissed his neck quickly, “I’m glad you don’t have any plans to sneak away to a bar and pick up some unsuspecting girl.”

Anthony chuckled despite himself, “Honestly I’m surprised you remembered.”

“Oh, it’s hard to forget the date you accidentally got knocked up by a cute sad boy.”

“Very fair.”

It was such a strange day. He woke with the same ache in his chest that he did every year on this date, even with Kate’s hair spread over his chest but it was different this year. This year he mourned for his father, for a life he could have been living of course he did but it felt so much more real.

“Daddy! Amma!” Neddy called out as he scrambled into the bedroom, his dark curls falling into his eyes and Kate groaned as she woke with Neddy jumping in the bed.

Anthony swallowed, ruffling his tiny son’s hair. “Hey, buddy.”

“Hi!” He kissed Anthony quickly and then Kate, settling between them under the blankets.

“Hungry, baby?” Kate asked Neddy after a short while. “Toast?”

They both knew toast was really just bread and butter for Neddy but Anthony loved that he knew that. He knew his son as his father had known him. Even if he wished his father could be here to see it.

“Yes!”

Anthony moved through to the kitchen and sat with his son on his lap while Kate got breakfast ready. He could feel Kate’s eyes on him, watching him carefully but Anthony kept focused on Neddy, listening to him chatter away about the things he wanted to do today. He wanted to play with Newton in the park, he wondered if maybe he could get a chocolate milkshake on the way home (obviously he would), He asked Anthony to read him a story later. It made Anthony’s chest ache, knowing that his father would never know Neddy. He’d never know Kate, he’d never have the chance to know how happy Anthony had been made by the girl who sat down next to him in a bar one night. He’d never know that Anthony was a good father, he’d never know how much he loved his son and loved Kate. His father was missing how incredible his family was and that was a painful thing to reconcile. But maybe there was another side to this. Maybe he never would have been in the right place to meet Kate. Maybe he never would have been in that bar in the first place. Maybe he never would have had any of this.

“Are you okay?”

Kate murmured it in his ear as she set Neddy’s breakfast down, smoothing their son’s hair.

Anthony’s throat felt tight. “Yeah um, I need to go out for a second.”

Kate’s face fell as he slid Neddy off his lap and stood to grab his jacket. “Ant-”

He kissed her quickly, “I’m fine, I promise.”

“You’re still in your pyjamas.”

“Daddy?”

Anthony crouched in front of his son, cupping his cheek, “Daddy has to go for a second but I’ll be right back.” He stood and turned to Kate, “I’m fine, I love you.”

“Where’s Daddy?” He heard Neddy say when he slipped back in the front door twenty minutes later and his heart clenched.

“He’ll be back soon, baby. I’m sure.” He heard Kate say and he hid the things he was holding behind his back.

“Daddy’s back.”

Neddy grinned up at him as he ran over and Kate still watched him carefully. Anthony crouched in front of him.

“Where’d you go?”

“How was breakfast, little man?”

“Good!”

Anthony couldn’t help but smile, “Hmmm you probably don’t have room for this then?”

With a flourish he pulled out the chocolate milkshake, laughing as Neddy squealed. “I have space!”

“Good.” Anthony ruffled his hair again and stood as Neddy ran back to settle on the floor in front of Kate again.

He flopped onto the sofa beside her, his arm around her. Kate sighed as she tucked herself into his side. “You spoil him.”

“Eh, he’s a cute kid. Gets it from you.”

“Are you okay? Really? You can tell me, Ant.”

“I’m… I wish he wasn’t missing this.” Anthony said, his throat still tight. “He would have loved you.”

“I wish I’d met him.”

“Me too.” He kissed her quickly before he set the tiny box on her knee. “This is what I really went out for.”

Kate frowned as she stared at the bakery box, She opened it slowly, confusion etched on her face as she looked down at the cupcake there, a single candle in it. “A cupcake?”

“Happy anniversary.” anthony kissed her again but Kate chuckled.

“This… isn’t our anniversary?”

Anthony scoffed, “Excuse me, this is the anniversary of the day we met and had pretty incredible sex to be honest and that’s worth celebrating. Whatever else this day means I am grateful for you and Neddy and I want to mark that as well.”

i read a fic recently with rookie sid and 2010 geno and i’ve been thinking of that a lot so… for your prompt maybe baby sid being enamored by an older geno? nsfw or pg is up to you :P merry christmas to you too btw!!

ok so once upon a time i wrote this fic which is pretty much exactly that premise! and i really loved writing it and it's still one of my personal favorites of mine, so i'm going to take your prompt and use it as an excuse to write a wee little follow-up, from sid's point of view...no smut or anything in this one, just a cranky 22 year old with a massive (reciprocated) crush on his captain. you'll have to read the first one for this to make sense!

Sid thought it would get easier when his dad retired.

Well, really, he expected that after a couple of months he wouldn't feel so desperate for Geno all the time. Not that he wouldn't still want him, of course not, Geno was the defining catalyst of Sid's sexual awakening and the star of 90% of his fantasies from adolescence onwards, but Sid thought that maybe after the first few times, when Geno didn't get sick of him or tell him they needed to stop, he'd be able to be a little more mature about the whole thing.

As it happens, though, he spent the rest of his rookie year in single-minded pursuit of two things: 100 points, and Geno's dick.

It's a good thing he had his dad's example to make sure he stayed focused on his game. If his work ethic and internal motivation weren't already firmly ingrained, Sid might have let his head be turned so far by getting what he wanted after so much time that he let his game slip.

Geno probably wouldn't have let that happen, though. He takes hockey more seriously than Sid does, even, and for as much time as they spent sneaking around to be together, Sid thinks they probably doubled that in extra ice time after practice, practicing one-timers and head-fakes and set plays to try out on the man advantage.

Sid's dad was always there too, is the thing. Sid lives at home still, his mom won't let him buy his own place until he signs his first real contract and isn't blowing an entire season's worth of income on a house, and Sid very quickly ran out of reasons to get his dad to head home early and let Geno drive him back. It made the time with Geno he managed to steal all the better.

Sid, maybe stupidly, thought that once his rookie year was over, when his dad officially retired and wasn't on the team anymore, he'd have a little more separation from his parents at the rink.

His dad barely stayed retired two months before his mom practically pushed him out the door directly into the goalie development role the Penguins offered him, though, and Sid's sophomore season starts the same way his rookie year did—sitting in the passenger seat of his Dad's truck, glaring out the window on the way to practice.

He must be making quite a face, because Geno's already there and half-changed into his gear when Sid walks into the locker room, and when he sees Sid's expression he does that thing with his jaw where he's trying not to laugh out loud.

Sid only scowls harder. Even Geno in his hockey pants and nothing else isn't enough to cheer him up.

It ends up turning out okay, though. Sid's mom stops asking so many questions about where he's going at night when his dad isn't around to give her the exact run-down of official team activities. Sid isn't sharing a hotel room on roadies anymore, so if he sneaks out after curfew and tiptoes down the hall to Geno's room, there's nobody to tattle, and no chance that he'll run into his dad out looking for the ice machine. And his dad gets so wrapped up in working with the goalies that they never finish practice at the same time, so if Sid makes some vague excuse about reviewing tape with the power play unit and he'll catch a ride, his dad waves him off without protest.

His schedule opens up, just like that. And Geno's more than happy to fill his time, tumbling Sid into bed and blowing his mind at every available opportunity. Their first California road trip, the one with built-in off-days for recreation, had been a revelation—after figuring out that yes, Geno really can eat someone out until they cry, Sid spent their beach day so distracted he was forced out of the volleyball game for bringing his team down.

There's a contract waiting for him on July 1, Sid knows. Pat hasn't sent him the details yet, but Sid knows it's good, something that will set him up for life pretty much, with signing bonuses to protect his earnings in case of another lockout and full trade protection as soon as he's eligible.

He's already talked to the realtor most of the guys use. She'd offered a few options in Cranberry, close to the practice facilities and where he grew up, but Sid told her he wants to get a little distance from his folks, somewhere he can set up his own house and not have his mom tempted to walk down the block and redecorate every other week.

And if the neighborhood he told her to focus on is Geno's, well, Sid's favorite breakfast place is there too, and he's always liked older parts of the city, with big trees and historic homes.

The fact that he could be within a ten-minute drive of Geno's house is just an extra perk.

"Ill walk her, make sure nothing happens" A boy spoke, more like Mattheo who Y/n used to have a huge crush on and also her brothers best friends so she knew she never stood a chance.

The walk was okey, quiet for the first few minutes but soon they talked again after Mattheo had cracked a joke about the shirt Y/n was wearing.

"Where you get the shirt" he had asked.

He knows your friendship with Will.’’ He was making sense which she hated. ‘’Ms Y/L/N, please pack yourself a bag.’’ Jack’s final decision was made and she had no choice. She had to survive.

The journey to Hannibal Lecter’s home was a long one, at first Hannibal explained the case to her and they talked about it for a while and then she fell asleep, in this state Hannibal could examine her face closely, she looked like an angel, so soft and innocent but he knew deep down she had deep secrets and he couldn’t wait to reveal them. As a fellow enthusiast of The Labyrinthine Workings of Kant's Deliciously Fucked-Up Mind, what are your thoughts on him STILL not coming clean about why he's scared of the ocean? Arguably, that could've be the perfect moment to be truthful about it because a) sympathy and b) demonstration of honesty, so I'm interested in his thinking. I'm not at all mad about it, because it gives me faith they want to treat it with the gravity it deserves and that it will be revisited later in a meaningful way, but I'm curious to hear what you think!

Also curious as to whether the invoking of penguin in this ep (I gather ppl had mixed reactions to this but I loved it - thought it was such a beautiful show of trust, and when partnered with Bison's exact words about using it from ep 3 - 'Let me know as soon as it's too much' - it becomes utterly heartbreaking) gives you more or less confidence that they'll also revisit the BDSM?

Oooooh, that is such a good question! I don't think I have a definitive answer for now, as I haven't thought about it very deeply (also I just woke up), but my gut reading of it follows three axis (and sorry. this got long. how did it get so long. why am I so verbose.)

Kant simply doesn't wanna look at it. That's the first thing I landed on and honestly the reason I didn't even wonder why he wasn't talking about it. It's just not his style! Early in the show I said that trying to write Fadel's pov is both interesting and challenging because there are many things he simply can't look at or he'll never stop screaming, and I think this is yet another thing he and Kant have in common. Kant is sociable and very sexually active, so he doesn't register as repressed in the same immediate way Fadel does, but he is! He's been dealt a shit hand in life, and he's known for a while that how he felt about it would never meaningfully change his situation ; so while he can't exactly stop having those feelings, he can (and does, all the time) chose to set them aside. It's very human tbh: no one can stare their grief in the face 24/7 and survive. But yeah, it took Kant waking up disoriented on the deck of a boat to actually look at what happened to him as a kid, and that was an extraordinarily unpleasant moment for him. So if you put him back on solid land? He's just gonna say no thanks! This is why I must say I'm not sure they will actually revisit that trauma in depth, but I personally wouldn't be mad about it. I don't think Kant is at a point in his life where he can do that work, especially since they still have so many things to worry about. However I can totally imagine him casually mentioning it years down the line, and Bison going "I'm sorry, WHAT" and Kant saying "oh we don't have to make a big deal out of it" and Bison being like "yes we do Kant. holy fuck." TLDR: Kant is very much a "if I don't touch my feelings they can't hurt me" kind of person, and that might be what he's doing there.

Kant doesn' want to make this moment (the beach vacation torture session) about his hurt. It's about soothing Bison's pain! It's about aknowledging the damage he caused, showing that he's sincere in his desire to make up for it, and proving to Bison he's worthy of trust! (this isn't not linked to the safeword thing, btw.) And we can be mad about him prioritizing Bison's needs over his own, but "devoted to a fault" is just how Kant rolls, and now that he doesn't have to keep that side of him in check when it comes to Bison (Bison who is, at this instant, very emotionally vulnerable), of course he's going to indulge. He doesn't want Bison to forgive him out of pity and compassion for his past circumstance. Does he even want Bison to forgive him? I mean, yes, obviously, but forgiveness isn't the main goal here at all. getting another chance is. I think he wants Bison to put his broken heart in one side of the scale - with no mitigating factors to lighten that weight - then Kant's sincere devotion and love in the other, and then judge for himself. And I think Kant's is very confident that his love and devotion will outweight the hurt, and that Bison just needs some time to accept that. But in the meantime he's not gonna fish (haha) for sympathy, and I don't think it occurs to him that the plane crash is even something to be honest about (after all he never lied about the plane crash. that would probably require looking at it.) but even if it was I don't think he'd believe that's the honesty Bison needs right now, as it has nothing to do with their relationship. In fact the only time he really mentions something that isn't part of their relationship, it's Babe, and I don't think I need to explain why Babe is the exception. TLDR: Kant said "this isn't about me, this is about my boyfriend's hurt feelings and saving my marriage."

The one I'm way less confident about: I'd say (and this is related to point 1 but still a separate thing) that Kant finally feel like he can turn over a new leaf. All the things that he was running from caught up to him, and it should have killed him, it certainly felt like it was killing him, but it didn't. Immersion in water symbolizes a cleansing of the soul and/or a sheding of past identities in many cultures, and Kant emerged from the sea with the absolute proof he was loved. That's bound to make a man want to look toward the future! Add to this his gradual realization that what he was doing wasn't actually efficiently helping Babe, which culminates in him admitting that Babe will be independant very soon, and you get someone who's more than willing to let the past be past. Now, obviously irl he would still probably need to adress his trauma, but as a character? I'm not sure he does. And at this moment I think he's kinda basking in that feeling of rebirth, despite everything. (There might also be some Buddhist element in that reading, like the idea of letting go of past hurts, rather than give them power over you by obsessing about them, but I am not Buddhist and know very little about Buddhism so. idk. do NOT quote me on that) TLDR: Kant did not dwell on the past because he is, symbolically, moving on from all the bad shit in his life.)

Thus conclude my thought on the question! I shall now release that post into the wild, where it perhaps will catch the attention of fellow Kant appreciators who might add to it crunchy thoughts of their own, and - oh, wait. There's a second part to this ask.

Okay, so, the thing is I am not the best person to weight in on the safeword scene, because I tend to have very knee-jerk reactions to how safewords are used in fiction. It's one of my numerous bdsm related pet-peeves, and I've been trying very hard not to inflict my rants on the subject on people who didn't ask, and. *deletes one of said rants* I will be strong and not get into it. I do personally think it was silly, but not in a bad way, simply silly like a lot of the show is silly, like a hitman tying a guy to a bed with promises of pain and then introducing himself as "the cutest waiter in a burger joint" is silly: just because something is silly doesn't mean it can't also be meaningful, or even kind of heartbreaking. Personally, it did not hit me nearly as hard as the "Hi, I'm Bison" moment did, because 1. that's a tall order and 2. see the "kneejerk reactions to the use of safeword in fictional settings" part of this paragraph. But I did find it remarkably sweet! (and just to make sure no-one gets their own knee-jerk reaction reading my post: safewords are useful in many settings and necessary in many others, including fictional ones. i am not disparaging safewords. carry on.) So my very instinctual answer to "does this scene give you more or less confidence that they'll revisit the BDSM?" is well, they went somewhere I didn't particularly want them to go, so how can I trust they'll go somewhere I actually want them to (ie, more BDSM)? (Not to mention that the safeword use could technically function as a sort of bookend: they opened the BDSM talk with it, they could close it the same way. It would not be very satisfying to me, but I have to reluctantly admit that it wouldn't be bad writing.)

But if I take a step back from my own feelings... well, I don't know. I don't know, because until now this show has not followed the usual scripts for BDSM in media. Pretty sure I've already been over some of the things that I've loved so far, so I won't go back on them, but my point is that it's been breaking some old molds, and while I appreciate it, it makes speculating a lot harder. What I will say, though, is that BDSM has been woven into the KantBison plotline in a way that allows it to really underline the various themes of that plotline (trust most of all, imo), so why drop it when we still have four episodes to go? Especially since the writers do seem to care about it enough to not just follow clichés.

And like I said, you could argue that the safeword scene do bookend the BDSM "arc" quite well - from the two of them agreeing on a safeword that can't really mean anything since one of the participants is partially having sex under pressure, to them using the safeword in a non-sexual setting to convey that they can actually be trusted to respect boundaries and, in the case of Kant, can be trusted to set boundaries. Like, it does make sense!!! But wouldn't it make even more sense, and be even sweeter, if we went from a scene gone wrong to a scene going right? Maybe the safeword scene wasn't so much the bookend as it was the climax of the BDSM arc. In which case I do believe they will put bow on it later. A nice little epilogue to it. So yeah, I don't know, but I see no reason to just assume they'll drop it. With still four episodes to go, I believe each couple will get one more (if perhaps only slightly) sexual scene before the end of the show, and I hope they'll put the BDSM there. But even if they don't, it's not like the show has been shy with sex jokes and little allusions so far, and I really don't think they'll stop. Wether that's enough or not will be a matter of taste.
