How would you rank the gens?

Ope I feel like I'm gonna upset some people LOL so disclaimer remember these are just my takes.

But this is how I personally see them (counting remakes as being part of the gen they remaking):

Gen 9 - Paldea Region

I've been thinking about this since the games came out, so I'd like to say recency bias isn't as much of a factor here. Bugs aside, I genuinely, genuinely love the storytelling, characterizations, and open world approach. FRIENDS THAT FEEL LIKE ACTUAL FRIENDS?? HAVING THE LEGENDARY WITH YOU THE WHOLE TIME, AND IT TOO HAS A PERSONALITY & BACKSTORY??? THREE SEPERATE STORYLINES THAT CONNECT TO A CANONICALLY DEAD PROFESSOR AND AN "EVIL AI" FINAL BOSS??? Like omg. I was amazed. I honestly usually dislike the "gimmicks" each generation brings, but terastilization caught my interest and I have a strong feeling nothing will personally top it as a gimmick for me. The DLCs really sent it all home for me for the #1 spot, like oh my god LOL. Past DLCs always just felt like something extra, but I literally cannot see this game as being complete without Kieran, Carmine & the rest of Kitakami/Blueberry peeps & their storylines. My interest in the games only grew because of all of it - and that's a massive compliment given the fact of how hard it is to accomplish such a level of monumental significance with only a few hours of gameplay. I've yet to replay the game with earlier access to The Teal Mask, but I feel like this would make it even more immersive. Just pure chef kisses here.

Gen 2 - Johto Region

A very close second. Heartgold/Soulsilver is the most elite remake in existence and idc if it's old school, I'll die on this hill. Johto is just so full of life - the continuation story is amazing, the immersion into culture and legendary stuff??? Mwah. Silver is an excellent rival, RED being a thing (the ultimate level of iconicism), and the double region will always hit. The soundtracks HIT and my god hearing them remastered iS INCREDIBLE. I even get obsessed with the pokeathlon dome and I'm usually not someone who gets into that kind of stuff. But THEY MADE IT FUN. And I love all the cute activities you can do with your team that can follow you around. So glad they brought this feature back. :')

Gen 5 - Unova Region

Oooooh I loved the reset of Gen 5. It's based on where I'm from and there were so many refreshing aspects of Black & White. From the new pokemon, to the NYC culture, to N & the whole beautiful storytelling there, and a sequel that somehow made everything even MORE polished. I literally remember referring to this region as the "Isshu Region" before the English names dropped becuase of the hype LOL. 10/10, cannot wait for these remakes. Gamefreak don't mess this up.

Gen 4 - Sinnoh Region

Oh, Gen 4. You hit good. The lowkey dreary vibes of Sinnoh is very nostalgic to me, and Piplup is one of my best buddies. Cynthia being the very first female Champion, and being as fearsome as she is, was such a big deal to me. Definetely Barbie'd her a bit in my mind because I look a like her and loved how much of an academic she was (but I def do not have her length in hair, lmao). Soundtracks are fire, of course. The way legendaries were integrated in the story without going too Dragonball Z was IMMACULATE, and the lake trio will always be my fave lil buddies. The only con I'd give this gen is that I disliked the HM reliance & D/P are practically unplayable to me since Platinum exists. I had low bars for the remake once I heard it wasn't Platinum, and ugh, they really dropped the ball. HOWEVER: while it isn't main line, I fucking love Legends: Arceus and would rather have that over an excellent remake, tbh.

Gen 1 - Kanto Region

This is another nostalgia one for me because of the fact that I quite literally was introduced to pokemon since before I can recall most memories (this is what happens when you have an older sibling with a gameboy, lol). It's probably tied with Gen 4, tbh. Firered wasn't my first game, but it hit really good because I "played" so much of R/B/Y. I know Gen 1 has its faults, and it's often seen as being pretty bare bones in comparison to other generations. And while I completely agree, god damn, what a good foundation for a franchise. Every town had a personality to it and is very memorable to me. The soundtracks are FIRE. Smaller pokedex, but damn does team building hit (and the starters are elite). Blue was also consistently my favorite rival until Kieran, lol. #oldrivalshipping/conflictingshipping was the original OTP xD

Gen 7 - Alola Region

So there's a lot of things I liked about Gen 7. It took a really big risk by breaking the formula, and it really immersed me into the Hawaiian culture & seeing your pokemon more as friends. I loved looking at pokemon in a different way and some of the pokemon introduced in this region are among my favorites (e.g. Ribombee, Bewear, Shiinotic, Mimikyu, Rockaruff, to name a few; starters also HIT). NEBBY AND LILLIE ARE ELITE. The professor is so lit, and Team Skull is the funniest team organization alive. AND YES, GET RID OF THE HMS. I honestly think a remake would make this gen jump up a bit more for me - the 3DS could barely handle this game, and it was showing. The facial expressions also need some work LOL, and I honestly dread the tutorial of the game. I like the ultrabeasts conceptually, but the execution of their involvement in the game is very DragonBall Z-ified. Ultra Necrozma lowkey would've been an amazing time for a "light" type even if it didn't make much sense, but hey, it was an awesome nuzlocke-killing moment anyway. xD

Gen 8 - Galar Region

I actually have a lot of play time for this gen. I was very obsessed with it when it came out, and could probably get glued to it all the same nowadays. But in hindsight, I realize a lot of my attachment to it was because of the semi-open worldness & ability to create a lot of different kinds of teams with a lot of new and old pokemon I like (I also liked having access to things earlier, like Ice Types before the end of the game lmfao). I still have a few things I really enjoy outside of it, though, like Hop's storyline & the setup of the gyms being in this stadium, sports-esque setting. But the plot? Eh. I have a lot of constructive criticism on how some shortcuts were made, and especially with the whole darkest day stuff lol. The only thing I liked about that fight was the dogs coming in and being cool; I wasn't impressed by or interest in Eternatus at all. The Leon fight afterward was fun, though! But oof, those weird men with the sword and shield hair afterwards were also just...no. :D DLCs also didn't quite hit that hard - it was more about having more pokemon than anything for me. So overall, it's fun to play, but I'd definitely change up the plot to make it better.

Gen 3 - Hoenn Region

This is where I think some people might wanna fight me, and to that I say you're probably valid. I don't know what it is with the Hoenn region because I actually don't have too many critiques about it (e.g., let's have less water routes); I just have never been able to get into it quite the same as I can others. I should honestly give it another shot, but I think I'd wanna do Emerald over Omega Ruby/Sapphire given the route they took everything with the remake lol. That's about all I have to say on this one since I never really connected with it as much!

Gen 6 - Kalos Region

This one feels like an especially hot take to have atm given where the pokemon community is in general LOL. Critical opinions ahead......Listen...no offense, but Gen 6 just ain't it for me at all. xD It's probably the one gen I actively dislike. The games felt way too easy with too much hand-holding/handouts, Team Flare & Diantha were a joke (and I'm not even a competitive player), and the whole group of friends felt more like an annoyance to me more than anything. They just weren't flushed out right. Neither was the plot. Like what was that plot. Outside of that, a lot of things just felt like "Look! Pokemon is in 3D now!!" over and over again because of how rushed the game was. So other than introducing fairy types & having pretty protagonists with some new clothing options, this gen is pretty forgettable to me. And that's a shame, because I like pokemon! I was one of those people who were curious on if we were gonna connect to Kalos for Gen 9, but I'd geniunely pick the DLCs we got any day of the week. I don't think Legends ZA will change much of my opinion on the mainline game, but given how much I loved Legends Arceus, I'm hoping it can be used to retcon & generate more interest/connection to the Kalos region in general.

Again, these are all just my personal opinions. I hope you all can enjoy pokemon in any way that feels good for you :) <3

If we ever get another PMD with a brand new story, what Pokemon would you choose for hero and partner?

*if ur talkin like, options for people in the game, then i think it'd be ok to limit the number of starters (as much as it'd suck), but I'm not sure how so.

*it'd be fun to do like... a random assortment in the style of like, each pkmn gets a nature like the original but it's random as to which u get?

*Obvi i wouldnt want them to get gender split personally

*anyway maybe like, say brave is charmander, pika, machop, rowlet or something. Game rolls a die when you open up a new game and ur option if u get brave is [drum roll] machop! But if you don't get brave that doesn't rlly matter except for partner choosing bc it's whatever u didn't get personality-wise

*any pkmn that didn't get rolled could even have some significant role in some other way, like maybe another personality type could be assigned to a rival team (a team is assigned brave leader timid partner, and since u rolled machop then they have to roll for a dif one and got pika and cynda)

*for non starter options, i think all the ones from previous are obvi good choices! Otherwise, maybe a couple more pika clones (pawmi, marrill, and emolga could work?); fairy types like flabébé, impidimp, and fidough; a few regional birds like fletchling and rookidee; maybe a bug type like dwebble or sizzlipede (though id be worried about balancing issues for bug types i still want them 🥺 ); zorua (why hasnt zorua been added ... seems silly bc how popular it is); maybe another dragon like noibat, dreepy, or applin (or all 3 lol); lechonk could be cute (like munchlax's inclusion); and i also think rolycoly could be a cool twist one

went to the mall today to find myself some shy guy merch, and actually did complete that mission! decided to explore after, turns out there was a small little con goin on in the mall itself, booths set up selling various anime stuff and others (one guy even had swords made of actual metal!)

at one of the booths, the guy running it complimented my kirby cap and the new shy guy plush i had. pointed at one of the shirts that had kirby on it, admitted he wanted to put a shy guy on it. i agreed, saying he should have put both on them. he also agreed, even laughed a little, and said he loved them shy guys. and i nodded and said,

“I would die for him.”

ended up getting a free snoopy sticker along with the piplup sticker i bought.

Opinions on each of the starter Pokemon, Kari.

I'll preface this post by saying that 1) I'm kinda biased towards water types and 2) I haven't actually played a Pokemon game since HG/SS, so my opinions have more to do with how I like them just from a design/lore perspective and their appearances in other media (like the anime) than their competitive viability

With that out of the way... let's go~

Bulbasaur - Still one of the most underrated starters I think. I loved Ash's Bulbasaur in the anime, he was one sassy bitch lol

Charmander - A touch overexposed, but for good reason. Who doesn't love a fire breathing dragon buddy

Squirtle - I love the concept, but honestly most of my fondness for it comes from Ash's Squirtle. The one with the glasses

Pikachu - I mean, it's the mascot of the series. I don't think I can hate it even if I tried. It's cute and we all know it

Eevee - I'm kinda meh on the whole line tbh... and the Eevee you get as a starter can't evolve anyways...

Chikorita - Honestly probably the most forgettable of the starters. I don't really think much of it

Cyndaquil - It's a cute little shrew thing that evolves into a honey badger. Okay I guess? Hisuian Typholosion was needed badly

Totodile - Look, Ash's Totodile being a happy dancy lil guy was all they needed to make me love it

Treecko - A bunch of Poketubers I watch regularly are fond of it, and although I see the appeal, I'm just okay on it

Torchic - I love the whole line tbh, but I still haven't gotten over my cousin's kid saying Combusken looks like a dick.

Mudkip - My answer to the "Do you like Mudkips?" meme is "No, I absolutely adore Mudkips and will die for them"

Turtwig - Probably the most underrated of the Sinnoh starters and I kinda see why people struggle to use it

Chimchar - I see the appeal, even if I never used it as a starter myself. I also got attached to it because of Ash's Chimchar

Piplup - Piplup was my first starter so I adore it a lot... It's just so full of personality whenever I see it. Project Pochama was lit

Snivy - All I know about it is the infamous episode where Ash's Pikachu lost to one at the start of B/W

Pignite - Kinda went overboard with the Fire/Fighting combi at this point... also it's not really appealing in anyway lol

Oshawott - I think it has the most likeable personality of the starters? The scalchop thing is really cute

Chespin - Chespin's evolutions are... something. Poor guy got the short end of the design stick

Fennekin - I think it has the best concept of the three Kalos starters. Yes, even more than ninja frogman

Froakie - I think they were trying to turn it into Charizard 2.0 and... I guess it worked for a while? I like it well enough I guess

Rowlet - The cutest borb (birb+orb) turning into a badass ghost archer? Yes please! Also, Ash's Rowlet was hilarious in S&M

Litten - I guess I was just thankful they didn't make it Fighting type again lol

Popplio - It's a cute little thing, I don't understand why people didn't like it when it was first revealed

Grookey - I may have compared it to one Banjou Ryuuga when it was revealed lol. Ryuuga's my fave 2nd Rider though...

Scorbunny - It's a cute lil bunny, how could I hate it? It also seemed to have the most personality out of the Galar starters

Sobble - *gathers him into my arms* I will protect this one with my life even if it evolves into lizard James Bond

Sprigatito - Do I want a cat that can knead me and make me kinda high? ...Maybe

Fuecoco - It's a happy lil fire croc! It looks so wholesome! Its head is empty but I don't care!

Quaxly - I would like to shake the hand of the god who thought gaylord samba peacock-duck thing would make for a great starter

I have a pokemon now

So this 10 year old girl named Dawn and her best friend, Barry, (who I'm pretty sure has ADHD) dragged us to go meet this professor guy, and he gave us all pokemon which is pretty cool.

I chose the piplup, Elena chose the chimchar, and Hibiya chose the turtwig.

So then Dawn and Barry started battling so we thought that we should do the same thing, and I immediately humiliated myself by trying to punch the pokemon. Dawn and Barry had stop their battle to tell me "No, your pokemon do all the fighting."

In my defense, this is the first time where I am not allowed to directly fight the opponent. It's kinda weird to not have to put yourself in immediate danger.

By the way, I won against both Hibiya and Elena. I'd feel bad, but I still have to maintain the title of "cool older cousin".

Anyway I've had my Piplup for 10 minutes and I would die for it.

HELLO YES I'D LOVE TO!!! i'll put it under the cut because it's a LOT of rambling and i don't know how to make my thoughts concise LOL (seriously this is very long)

i originally made the AU when the DSMP was still at its height of popularity, i think right after hannah joined? the story was going to follow benchtrio going all around sinnoh, meeting EVERYONE from the dsmp who were living their silly little AU lives, and getting tangled in a bunch of Lore with the lake trio and creation trio, but a combination of burnout & lack of interest in a lot of the CCs after a while made me eventually downscale it to just being SBI-centric instead and cutting out a lot of characters. I still really like some of the ideas I came up with before dropping them though, regardless of how half-baked they are LOL.

in the original version, benchtrio were going to have the three starters - tommy with chimchar, ranboo with piplup and tubbo with turtwig. they'd eventually get other pokemon as the story progresses but I didn't really plan much before dropping the idea oTL

tommy was gonna catch a shinx who'd match his energy and eventually a buneary like in the comic (itd be a really cute story of enemies to "i would kill and die for you" bc i love buneary starting with 0 friendship in the game LOL), ranboo was gonna catch an abra bc "hes anxious just like me fr" and tubbo was gonna catch an onix. bc he would and i think the image of him looking innocent in front of a giant fuck-off snake creature of Rocks is funny as hell LOL

the story would follow all of them getting badges and working together to be the regional champion but along the way they'd realise they wanna do other stuff instead - mostly ranboo with pokemon contests and tubbo with breeding, aiding phil in research (he'd create a little garden/pokemon nature reserve around lake verity IT WAS GONNA BE CUTE!!!). i don't remember tommy LOL

off the top of my head i also know that niki was gonna own a chain of bakeries with the main one she's usually at in eterna city, with food-themed pokemon from all types of regions gifted to her by wilbur (MORE ON HIM SOON). eterna city specifically because the bike mechanic guy would be jack fucking manifold the absolute legend AND THEYRE BEST FRIENDS IN THIS AU TOO!!!! jack would have electric & steel-type pokemon but his partner would be pachirisu who's basically co-owned by niki as well :3

SBI TIME philza was gonna be the professor and his partner is a specific murkrow called "chatterbox", shortened to "chat". no i don't care if it's too easy. he's seen as kinda quirky, kinda scary, because he's constantly followed by (and arguing with) flocks of murkrow wherever he goes - SPEAKING OF I DIDNT SHOW ART OF THEM. RAAAA

wilbur was phil's son and he honestly just wanted to fuck around and find out. his curiosity landed him a solid position at his father's side as a sort of apprentice as well as son, and while he contributed a lot of helpful work he also mostly just liked travelling around with his partner drifblim, almost becoming the charismatic face for sinnoh's research team instead of his more blunt, off-putting father. that's how he introduced niki to food-related pokemon :33 also he's evil and fucked up but i'll get back to that

TECHNOBLADE MY BELOVED!!!!! the regional champion, moved to sinnoh from unova when he was 18 after dropping out of college due to mental health reasons and wanted a complete fresh restart in a new region, trying to figure out what he wanted to do with his life. he started physically training in the wild with pokemon, living essentially as a hermit and travelling all around sinnoh, learning to live peacefully and control his anxiety while befriending pokemon on the way. he met phil by chance when camping in a forest and phil was like wow ur strong why dont u try becoming champion and techno was like ??????? and phil challenged him to a battle and techno understandably sweeped him and his team off their feet. and phil was like Yeah Holy Fuck You're Strong. go do the thing. go challenge ppl. and techno was like yea sure why not. he has not lost a single battle :) also he kept meeting up with phil after gaining his first couple of badges, gaining a reputation for being unbeatable, and got gifted a cleffa by phil when venting about his stress and anxiety and stuff. cleffa became techno's emotional support partner and it makes me so so happy :33

this post is already so long i havent even properly scratched the surface of the story and this is only the original version... i'm sorry i'm not a very good storyteller especially when it's so hard for me to keep track of my thoughts :') lmk if anyone's interested in any more ajhaghja

{ Starting Pokemon Diamond }

{ It's been forever since I've played Pokemon Diamond, but after playing Legends Arceus for a while, I started to crave the original game. Now, I played Diamond as a small child, but I barely remember it. My favorite gen of all time was Ruby and Sapphire, and of the two, I played Ruby~ }

{ I am also starting a new Omega Ruby game ~ I had enough room to call myself Princess Ari Ahahah! }

{ In this game I'm just Ari. In the past I've chosen Piplup as my starter but now that I'm older, and like spheal more, I decided to go the Jaiden route and try out Turtwig! I named him Bonsai ~ }

{ I'm not doing a nuzlock or anything but I would rather die then let a pokemon faint.... Mostly because I want everyone to get their exp and if they die they get no exp and THAT is a sin. Grinding is my nemesis so anything that causes that grind time to INCREASE is despicable >:o }

I just thought of something

Ok so you know how we now have 2 water bird starters in pokemon currently: Piplup and Quaxly?

It's got me thinking. What would a 2nd fire bird starter and grass bird starter look like?

I think I may have a possible idea for each.

But before we continue, let's briefly recap what each types of starters are based on. Before Scarlet and Violet, we know of how there was a clear trend and tradition as to where they get their inspirations from.

In the case of all the Fire Starters, it was the Chinese Zodiac. Even though Cyndaquil, despite being classified as the fire mouse pokemon, looks nothing like a mouse or a rat and looks more like an anteater if anything. Of course this was before Fuecoco, who is a crocadile, which isn't one of the animals on the Zodiac, and its line is more based on something that crocs do with their mouths, rather than anything mystical.

Next we have the Grass Starters, which are based on extinct animals from a time long past, namely dinosaurs, like in the cases for pokemon like Meganium or Torterra, an extinct family of apes for Rillaboom, and an extinct type of bird, in the case of Decidueye. Meowscarada kinda follows this trend. I say "kinda" because while the Iberian Lynx is still around today as of making this post, according to Wikipedia, it is labeled as an endangered species, meaning that it could potentially at some point down the line die out and become extinct, which still counts.

And lastly for Water starters, they are mainly based off of Aquatic/Marine life, which really does not need much of an explanation.

So now that we have identified what the key patterns are for each type, here's my ideas:

2nd fire bird starter would be based on a phoenix. While this is also not an animal on the Zodiac either, it's also a creature of great importance in various mythologies, including Japan's mythology. As being a symbol of rebirth. Now, I know what you're thinking, technically, we already have this thing already partially going on with Skeledirge, who has that little bird-shaped soul on its snout. Well, true. But that bird isn't it's own entity. I could see this go in one of 2 ways. Either it's a completely different pokemon completely unrelated to Skeledirge, or we could have for the first time in years, a similar situation to pokemon like Slowbro, Slowking, or Mantine. What I mean in the latter is that, maybe, hypothetically speaking, they do make Skeledirge's bird into its own separate being, even giving its own dex entry referencing Skeledirge as well. And if this were to be undertaken, then this would mark the first time that this has happened with the starters. Additionally, this 2nd starter would probably part-ghost type, in reference to how phoenixes rise from the dead. Also making it be the 1st starter since rowlet, to have starter that has 2 types throughout its line. Now as for a region that I see this pokemon being a starter for: Well, considering that Pheonixes are more notably prevalent in more Medditeranean countries, I'd say a region that's probably based on Greece and/or Egypt. Alternatively, it could also be present in a region based in China, since there are hints in Scarlet and Violet that we will visit a region based on it in the future.

2nd grass bird starter, keeping to the trend of extinct animals, there were a lot of choices for extinct birds to choose from, but the most iconic choice, in my opinion at least, would be none other than the dodo bird itself. Now I know that we already have doduo and dodrio, but they look nothing like it. They look more like a cross between an emu, ostritch, and a kiwi bird, rather than a dodo. Plus, they are only based on the dodo bird in name only. I also had a rather crackpot theory about how a potential dodo starter should also double as a doduo pre-evo. However, I quickly discarded this idea as I felt that it wouldn't make much sense, as: a. Doduo and Dodrio have never been established as starters in any of the games and b. they do not have any attributes that would make them be considered in grass starters, neither in appearence nor name. The only thing that could possibly make this possible is if doduo and/or dodrio were to be given a regional form and/or covergent evolution (basically what we saw with wiglett and toedscool being this to diglett and tentacool respectively). But then again, this would complicate a lot of things in the grand scheme of things in this series. Now the region that I could see this pokemon appearing in: a region that's based on Mauritius, in reference to the country in East Africa that was the home of the dodo before it went extinct. But that probably won't happen anytime soon. So we'll probably have to wait a while.

And is there a limit or some kind of reason why Azure would have to stay within... well, you?

not that I'm aware of, no. I was basically in some sort of coma during the entire time.. I'm not even sure how much time has passed since azure had control of my body..

I do remember being injected with.. azure.. and then I got injected with something else shortly after and blacked out. next thing I knew, I woke up in that hotel room with azure and crys.

the other question is a little harder to answer though.. I've never really asked azure why that is, but all they said is that something bad would happen to them...

i guess I could explain, but I don't know if it would make much sense.

basically, I have to stay inside of a body (doesn't have to be cobalt's) or I'll start to lose my form, and my body would start... how do I explain this... well, melting I guess. I'd also start to lose sentience, starting with my abilities to talk and think, and eventually turn into some sort of goo creature. without having the ability to eat stuff, I'd eventually starve and... die.

the whole thing where I turn into something that looks similar to a drizzile isn't a necessary thing, but I do it because I've gotten used to being like one. it does unfortunately take a lot of energy to do, which lowers the amount of time I can stay out of a body for. I don't know how to use any simpler forms like a piplup or any other small pokemon, so I can't transform into anything else that would take less energy.
