Hey Days!!!

This might sound like a stupid ask, but is the AO3 app legit? I feel like it would be easier if we can view everything in an app 😄

Hello! Not a stupid question. This topic has brought up a ton of discussion across fandoms, and so I’ll summarize what I’ve seen (mostly from following ao3commentoftheday’s tumblr blog).

There will likely never be an official ao3 app because

1. Too much manpower is required to create, maintain, and then continually do app updates, like whenever phones update to a new version. And since Ao3 is completely volunteer-driven, they probably don't have the manpower to spare on an app. They'd rather use their manpower to keep the regular website running for all of their millions of users.

2. Apple has policies about adult content, and fanfiction is full of spicy, problematic, and disturbing content. Ao3 would never delete or censor people's stories just to have an app available on Apple. Apple would never allow Ao3 as it is currently.

3. Businesses push for people to download their apps because they can force advertisements on their viewers, and viewers can't block the ads if they're on the app. So they can make money. Ao3 doesn't even have ads in the first place because everything is run through donations. There would be 0 gain for Ao3 and only a waste of manpower.

4. Ao3 is already reader-friendly on the phone from the website. They already put a lot of effort into the current website, so an app wouldn't add anything.

From what I've seen, here's a summary of reasons to NOT use an unofficial Ao3 app:

You would be giving your login information to a third party.

You have to pay to download some of these unofficial apps to cover the labor costs for the people who created the app.

Because fanfic writers upload their stories for free online, some feel that it's unfair profit for the app creators. I don't personally feel that way, though I understand that viewpoint. It's something to take into consideration.

Alternatives that other tumblr users have suggested instead of using an app:

Add a different mobile browser dedicated to opening fanfiction.

Download fics from Ao3 you enjoy as e-readers and adding them to the Kindle app so you can read them whenever you want. All Ao3 writers automatically consent to having their fics downloadable when they post on Ao3.

On Apple devices, apparently you can bookmark a Safari page onto your phone's home screen.

On Chrome, apparently you can do the same thing. Go to the three dots from the page you want to save, choose the Add to Home screen option, and then you'll have an icon shortcut.

Bookmark your main Ao3 search tags on your browser.

If you just want things to be "easier" and you're wishing for certain features, you can try out the publicly available site skins, like Reversi (for dark mode) or this one for dyslexia. Here are the Ao3 Instructions on using skins. Others use site skins to block certain users or hide fic stats (like views and kudos counts). That blog I follow Ao3cotd made a bunch of cute ones, like I use their pink one, or there's this pretty firefly one, art deco one, dark galaxy theme, pink and green frog theme, and this peach theme they made. They deleted their code for the pink one 😥, but since I'm using it, I still have the code on my account, so lmk if you want it.

So here y'all have the censored version (u can dm me for the smut scene lol). Please note that reader is female in this and don't be hard on me, this is my first time writing smut. Billy wasn't supposed to look twice when you passed by him. You hung out with the freaks, blasted Black Sabbath when pulling into the parking lot, wore dark makeup and ripped clothes. In addition, you had a few extra pounds to you. There was nothing he should be attracted to, but yet he was. He couldn't stop imagining your blood red lips wrapped around his dick, and grabbing your plushy hips while slamming into you. He wanted nothing more than to rip your clothes even further while making you tell him what you do with your freak-friend Gareth Emerson every other day after school. And he hated you for it. He despised you more than anyone else in the school for something that was entirely his fault. And he has tried everything to get you down. Billy has called you a cow, fatso, lard-ass, you name it, he said it to you. But last time, when he called you a quarter pounder, all you said was "At least I get pounded." and it made his dick twitch. And he hated Gareth for getting what he wanted so desperately, but what he hated more was that Gareth not only didn't care what he had to say but also that you protected him. That freak wasn't even your boyfriend, for fuck sake.

Billy Hargrove hated you like nothing else in Hawkins High.

"He's starring again.", Gareth mumbled to you at lunch. The two of you were seated at your table, waiting for your other friends to join. "Who?", you asked with a half-full mouth of mac and cheese. "Hargrove.", your friend-with-benefits replied. All you did was shrug your shoulders and put another fork full of your food in your mouth. "Let him. What is he gonna do, tell me to eat less food?" The last three words were spoken in a mocking tone. Gareth chuckled at your words and looked back at his food, but not before sneaking a glance at your boobs that were practically squeezing out of your Coroded Coffin tube top. You didn't comment since you couldn't blame him. One thing you were confident in is your looks - and you knew that Billy has been thirsting after you. Did you hate him? Yes, absolutely, but knowing that he secretly wanted to bang you was hilarious and such a treat. Speaking of the devil:

"Hey fattie.", Billy called over before standing next to you. "You ain't gonna loose weight if you keep eating junk like a pig." All you did was giggle at his words before replying: "Are you sure you want me to loose weight? My tits would be so much smaller, and I know how much you love starring at them." Billy was flabbergasted for a good second before scoffing and turning heel to walk away, but not before calling you a cow. "You know, I think you'll eventually regret talking to him like that.", Gareth said before eating a fork full of salad. "Oh really? What is the big manbaby gonna do?" You laughed and continued eating.

Just like your friends, you were in the Hellfire Club. Eddie had another campaign, a really good one, but your sorcerer died in a kamikaze attack to save Gareth the Great just an hour into the game. It frustrated you that you had to sit there for two more hours without doing anything, even though you loved listening to how Eddie led his campaign. The party and the campaign were finished after three hours total, leaving you as the next dungeon master for the following two sessions. As always, you volunteered to clean up after everyone so you left last. What you didn't expect was the basketball team to finish at the same time today. They were always done long before Hellfire finished up, so you saw them loading their cars as you walked out of the school. You threw your D&D books in your trunk while hearing the remaining cars driving away. Just as you thought you were alone while slamming your trunk shut, someone stood next to you. "What do you want?", you asked in a condescending tone while putting your school bag into the passenger seat. "You got a real big mouth, you know that?" He fumbled a cigarette out while talking - and he looked pissed. "You know, for someone who will always be a single imbecile. You should be nice, at least if you have to be fat." You scoffed at his words while leaning against your car. Any other day than today you would've made a passing comment, get behind the wheel and drive away. But now, after having your character be killed at the beginning of the campaign, being yelled at by your gym teacher and now Billy saying this you've had it. "You know, you're gonna be one of those husbands who yells at his wife to make him a sandwich and get divorced three times." He glared at you, even though he provoked you. "And your kids won't talk to you. They'll let you rot away in a nursing home while you wonder why nobody loves you." He got closer and looked down on you, probably hoping to intimidate you. It didn't work. "You'll never get the pleasure of a wife who will make you lunch for work and homemade cookies for desert. There is nothing but sadness, Billy." He blew the smoke from his cigarette in your face and pit it out on the roof of your car. "What are you gonna do, huh? Punch me? Do it. Fucking do it, you pussy." You didn't care anymore, the words were spit from your mouth, right at his face. You were fed up with him and his bullshit. But Billy, who cares too much, grabbed you by your jaw and pushed your back against your own car. Admittedly, you were a bit scared now but in some sick way...it made you horny. He looked beyond pissed, a storm was brewing in his eyes, his jaw clenched and nostrils widened. And you couldn't think of anything more attractive. "I hate you, so much.", he hissed out. "How can you not be miserable, looking the way you do." It wasn't a question towards you. More so, he asked himself how you can be happy while he had to suffer by himself. Billy felt how a lump formed in his throat, but he knew he couldn't cry. Not in public, and especially not in front of you.

What you didn't know was that Neil shoved Billy into his bookshelf this morning. He shoved him so hard that the bookshelf almost fell on top of him and his back was bruised. But he couldn't cry - he had to get Max and him to school. All day, it kept building up. His team lost in gym class, he failed math and had to explain that to Neil now, he got detention and now you read him like a book. Everything build up, and it became too much. He needed a way to let it out. That way was you.

"Dude, it's okay to cry.", you told him with a raised eyebrow. "Just do that shit in your car. I'm not your therapist." Billy let you push him off of you easily, giving you the chance to get in your car and drive off.

After that incident, Billy left you alone for two weeks. Even when his friends wanted to tease you, he just told them that you're not worth it and walked away. Gareth, knowing you enough, noticed it at the beginning of week two. "What's with Hargrove?", he asked you while giving you his desert cookie. With a grin, you took it from him while saying: "What's supposed to be with him?" Gareth looked past your head to see Billy eating at the popular kids table without starting a conversation. Only a short glance at you sometimes. "Keeps looking at you, but hasn't said anything in, what, a week?" You smirked at Gareth, winked at him and asked: "Jealous?", which was followed by your other friends at the table, aka Corroded Coffin, making gagging noises. "No seriously, what is it with him?", Gareth kept pushing. You haven't told any of them what had happened with Billy, you didn't want to tell nor have them know. But now that Gareth noticed, they won't stop asking until you told them what had happened. So you told them, whispered everything you could remember to them just quietly enough for nobody to overhear, conveniently leaving out the part where his anger turned you on. Jeff sat open-mouthed without saying a word, Gareth and his best friend started talking about how much of an asshole he is while Eddie sat and watched the other react. "It's not a big deal, seriously.", you reassured them while unpacking your cookie. "His ego is bruised, so what? Big deal." The four guys shared a look while you took a bite of your cookie. What were they on about now? "What?", you asked with a mouth full of food. "Nothing, jeez.", Gareth said before starting to eat his own food again. Eddie changed the topic to D&D after a while, saying he was excited to finish your own campaign later today.

The rest of the day went by fast, but not only for you. Billy couldn't get you out of his mind ever since he pinned you against your car. He was angry at first, not wanting to admit his attraction to you and still asking himself, why you? Then his anger directed itself at your friend, fucking Gareth Emerson, who got anything he wanted from you. At the same time fear got the best of him, because what if Gareth got to you first? What if he took what he thought was his, even though you didn't even pay attention to him when he didn't try to provoke you. And he was convinced that he only wanted to fuck you, but when he thought of you being with Gareth, kissing him, holding his hand or going to some stupid prom with him it made him furious. He didn't want that to happen. So then he got sad, because any chance he might have had with you was out of the window. Who would date someone that called them fat on a regular basis? And since when did he want to date anybody? Nothing made sense to him anymore, so he decided to get to his senses after your D&D session. He patiently waited in front of the theatre room, where your club held it's sessions and listened to you leading the campaign through the door. Your voice was filled with nothing but happiness and excitement as you spoke, and your laugh sounded heavenly to him. His heart started beating faster as he heard the party celebrate their victory and pack up their things. Once again, you volunteered to clean up their leftover cans, snacks and put the figurines away. All four other party members let out a disapproving scoff as they saw Billy leaning against the wall next to the door but he just ignored them and glared at Gareth before going in.

Your back was turned as you sorted the little figurines to each member of Hellfire. You made all of them put their initials on the bottom of each figure that belonged to them after switching figurines up regularly. Eddie started calling you mom after that in a joking manner, even though you were a year younger than him. Not even the door shutting concerned you since you thought it were the boys leaving. Only when you heard a familiar voice say "Quite the view." you turned around to see Billy standing in the room. "What do you want?", you asked him in an annoyed tone. Hellfire Club was the only place where he left you alone, and you wanted to keep it that way. "Look, I'm not here to fight, okay? Just wanna talk." He came closer to you and placed a hand on each side of the table next to you, cornering you once more. "You can do that while respecting my personal space.", you said to him while pressing your back into the table. "You'd run off if I did.", he said. "Listen, (Y/N), I have something to tell you." You can't remember a scenario where he called you by your first name. "The times I was mean to you-" You interrupted him. "You bullied me. Or tried to." Billy just nodded once before continuing "Yeah, bullied you, I guess." What a good start, he thought. "I was...trying to get you to hate me-" You interrupted him once more. "I kind of do, actually." He sighted at your interruption. "Let me finish, please.", he said while trying to hold back his annoyed tone. You simply nodded and let him continue. "I was trying to get you to hate me, because I didn't want to admit to the fact that I like you." He waited for you reaction, but all you did was grin and giggle. "Oh, I know you like me Billy.", you said. "You made it very obvious." There was silence between you two before you spoke again. "I'll let you get in my pants if you promise to be a good boy afterwards." Billy grinned at you, lifted you up the table and started kissing you.

The next hour was a blur. All you could remember was how good you felt, that you moaned his name over and over again and begged him for more. "You okay?", Billy asked you while picking up his and your clothes. "Can't feel my legs..", you mumbled in a tired tone. He chuckled, helped you to sit up on the table and got you dressed. "Let me drive you home.", he said while pulling your shirt over your head. "Are your parents home or anyone I need to make an excuse for?" He lifted your legs up to get your thong back on you. "No, they're in Austin for some business conference. Big sister moved to Tampa years ago, just me and my pet frog." Billy helped you get up from the table, you stood on shaky legs as you looked around the room. "Need to sort the figurines again.", you mumbled as you walked over to the table like a baby deer. "Let me help you, sweetheart." Billy picked up the figurines and dice that were scattered on the ground. "There's the boys initials on the bottom, just put them in piles." You were too distracted with not collapsing due to your legs giving out that you didn't noticed how Billy snagged one of Gareths figurines.

After cleaning up, Billy drove you home. He got you into your room, helped you remove your makeup and get changed into your pyjamas. "Didn't you say that you liked me?", you asked as he tucked you in. "I did, yeah.", he replied with a smile. "Wanna stay the night?" Billy looked down on you. He saw you without your dark makeup for the first time, and you were still so beautiful to him. "If I can take you out after school.", he said while taking off his clothes. You thought about it for a bit before agreeing and he slipped into bed next to you. "Sleep well, sweetheart.", Billy whispered. He turned off your nightlight, gave you a kiss on your forehead and wrapped his arms around your body before both of you drifted off to sleep.

It's been a month since that incident. Billy held his promise and started taking you out every other day, didn't make comments in school anymore and told everyone who tried to to fuck off. First, you stopped having sex with Gareth after week one, then Eddie eventually caught you and Billy making out after school so you had to tell them that you have been seeing him behind their back. And it took them a while to cope with it, especially because this was Billy Hargrove dating a freak, but they accepted it when they saw that you were even happier than before. Billy officially asked you to be his girlfriend a few days ago, much to your friends dismay. "(Y/N), look at this.", Gareth said while looking at something in his locker next to you. His D&D figurine, the one of his character, was laying in his locker. "Told you it would turn up again.", you said to him with a grin. You never told any of the boys what happened that night on the table, and you assumed Billy stole the figure for whatever reason. "Maybe one of the theatre kids found it.", you added while going back to your locker. "Yeah, but it's been, what, three weeks? A month?", your friend continued. "Just be happy it's back." You picked out the books for your next class and put them in your bag, then fished out a plastic bag filled with cookies you and your father made last night. Billy has walked past your locker between every 4th and 5th period since he asked you to be his girlfriend, so you just waited for him to pass by. "See you later.", Gareth said to you while shutting his locker and walking off to his next class. "See ya.", you said while fixing your hair in the mirror you had in your locker. "Hey, sweetheart.", a familiar voice behind you said. The reflection of Billy was in your mirror, to what you turned around with a smile. "Hey there.", you said with a smile. The two of you shared a kiss before you handed him the bag. "I made this for you.", you proudly told him, still smiling. Billy took the ziplock bag from your hands, looked at the content inside it and smiled. "Thought I'd never have the pleasure of homemade cookies.", he said in a teasing tone.

Hi! I came here to ask some advice, because you inspire me and you are cool and also because this is nsfw blog (you will understand as I explain myself)

So um.. I've been working on something original of mine, and it's a comic and it's nsfw. (I mean first 4 pages are and later in line after a while and a bunch of stuff happening it will have some more, but it important to the plot and characters) And I have no idea where and how to properly post it!

Most of my art is here on Tumblr and I love the idea of it being some sort of archive of my art, that's why I don't want to skip pages, or start posting a comic from 5th page, that would be weird, but also I want to properly censor it and put warnings and stuff.

I was thinking maybe creating a sideblog as well? Just to be safe?? And putting whole page under a cut, so people wouldn't have been jumbscared in case they haven't blocked any of the spicy tags, but still i dunno, maybe there are better ways. Or also better platforms, to post something like that there, and not on burning bird app or this hellsite.

Any advice is appreciated :з

if i were you, i would probably go with one of those free webcomic-hosting websites? i don't know much about them, but google brought me to comicfury, which seems to allow nsfw:

Your comics will only be removed if they contain illegal content.

however i would still recommend posting censored versions on twitter and/or tumblr and/or other social media sites just for visibility.

i wouldn't recommend pixiv, which is what i've been using for image hosting. it technically doesn't allow nsfw, but it enforces that by toggling your nsfw art to private a couple hours after you post it, meaning you can go back in the artwork settings and re-toggle it public afterwards. i haven't experienced any consequences from doing this, but it's also not a big deal to me if it all gets taken down one day. if you're making a webcomic, though, you'd want something more permanent.

you could technically use ao3, but ao3 doesn't host images. that means you can't upload an image directly to ao3; you have to give it a link to an image that's already on the internet. so, you'd need to find another place to upload the images. if you're at all tech-oriented, you can set up a free amazon web services bucket for image hosting and grab the links from there, but that's a little complicated.

i think a webcomic-hosting site is the best bet in your scenario!

Update: question - is this pic very dark for you? It was fine on the monitor I was working on but my small laptop screen shows it very dark and half of the background details get lost in the shadows. I'd like to know if its a common problem. If it is, I'll upload brighter versions. This art is brought to you by stress-painting. I know its not Starling, and I've been keeping you waiting. I apologize. I can't write lately, because stress and war, and I can't commit emotionally to the characters at the moment, not enough to write. I CAN, however, draw and paint. At least that works at the moment. So I tookt he chance to finish some drawings I started months ago, and here we are! Just a pleasant night at the tower for our Wizards. A Formal Apology for my Sudden Disappearance (10/18/24)

Hello everyone! It's Jester.

After a very extended break, I wanted to come back here and re-invigorate some life into this blog. But first, I believe I owe all of you an apology and an explanation for why I disappeared so suddenly and for so long.

At the beginning of this year, I found myself at a new job. And while I found my work very fun and fulfilling, it also left me significantly busier than I was before. I tried my best to keep uploading at my regular pace, but within three months I was burnt out. Maintaining the schedule on one platform was barely manageable, let alone two. So unfortunately, I decided to drop Tumblr first. Since I only use Tumblr on desktop (I don't have the Tumblr app on my phone because the version on the Apple app store censors certain tags. And trying to upload through browser causes it to crash), uploading pictures takes more time than uploading to Instagram directly from my phone.

As I've said though, I only managed to keep the schedule on Instagram for three months before burning out. Between March and July, I spent more of my time prioritizing my duties at my new job. Then once my tenure was over, I ended up moving to a different place, which was a hectic process all on its own.

As time passed, I became interested in other things, and debated about quitting altogether. The thing that ended up bringing me back was, quite fittingly, Jackson. With more free time after the move, I made Jackson a new outfit that I wanted to show off. And that ended up getting me to take pictures again. XD

Even so, it took me some time to find a new schedule that was actually sustainable for me. I've been getting more into drawing lately, and I wanted to find a balance between taking pictures and my other interests.

Which leads us to October. I've found a schedule that works for me now, and I believe I'm ready to go back to posting on two platforms.

Upon logging in again though, I found that I received multiple messages worrying about my whereabouts. It warms my heart that you all care about Jackson and his humble clown human so much. I'm really sorry I made you all worry. Tbh, I didn't think my online presence had much of an impact, so I didn't think about any possible consequences of just up and vanishing the way I did.

Thank you to everyone who sent me messages of concern while I was gone. I'm sorry I vanished for so long without saying anything, and I promise next time I take a break I'll say something before leaving.

In the meantime, I've loaded up the queue with all the photos I've take over the past few months. Lots of new pictures are coming.

Additionally, I've closed my Etsy shop in favor of getting a Ko-Fi. All the sewing patterns I've had before are there now, as well as some physical doll clothes and stickers I've drawn myself. Feel free to check it out if you'd like.

Is Spotify supporting the zionists? honestly I have no idea, and if this is a dumb question im sorry too :( I just really want to boycott everything I can

it's not stupid at all! i don't think there's a spotify boycott going on atm, however there IS a hybe boycott going on. what i'm doing is downloading everything i wanna listen to from hybe and uploading it to spotify as local files, this way it doesn't count as streaming and therefore it doesn't support hybe

here's a thread where you can find hybe's artists' music. they haven't uploaded tomorrow yet but you can find the whole album here. if you have the xkit extension you can easily download audio tracks from tumblr, but if you don't (or if you're on mobile) you can also download the tracks straight from spotify using this website (it's what i did, the only track i downloaded from tumblr was quarter life bc the spotify version is censored lol)

I am not sure what happened but I now sometimes call Purple, Violet. Violet now has skull-crushing thighs, and Green is a lucky man.

Because of this, I kinda wanna draw her crushing a watermelon with her thighs.

Pfft. Do I do it?

Another headcannon I have is that Orchid is a dancer, and that's where she met Navy, a band vocalist. Violet knows pole dancing, and pole dancers have 'em strong thighs bro.

Digimon’s troubled history with home video releases (and why the upcoming thing is very cool)

So, Discotek Media just announced Blu-ray releases of Adventure, one dubbed, and one in Japanese with subs. This is, of course, a big deal, because it’s the first time Adventure has ever gotten an official Japanese home video release in Western territories. But if you know Digimon’s very troubled history of home video releases and official localization, the details of this upcoming potential release are way more of a big deal than they even are on the surface.

Let’s talk about Digimon’s history with official licensing, official home video releases, and official translation!

Some minutiae about video stuff and technicals

Every Digimon series up to Savers aired in standard definition, and was released in DVD format (both Japanese releases in Japan and US-based releases with the English dub) in 480p (640 x 480 pixels). Unfortunately, this ultimately didn’t age well, because as monitors got bigger and high-definition, 480p became too small to see much of anything. On top of that, the Blu-ray format, having the digital data directly on it, is much better at data retention, so because of that there started to be demand for Digimon Blu-rays, including dubbed ones. The “ideal scenario” for a lot of people would have been a “dual audio” release, where you can have both the Japanese version and the dub on one disc and be able to switch audio tracks.

Unfortunately, a dual audio release is not possible for sheer logistics reasons, purely because: the dub had cuts! Short of redoing the whole editing from scratch, you can’t have footage that syncs up the Japanese and English audio, because the little cuts here and there the English audio is timed for would throw them off sync. Furthermore, the English dub had edits to the footage (airbrushing things to censor them out, or translating Japanese text), and if you’re acting in the interest of preservation, you do want to actually keep those edited frames. As a result, this is why Discotek’s releases are splitting the original Japanese version and the English dub; you can’t really treat them like the same product.

In any case, if you want Blu-ray releases in HD 1080p (in this case, 1440 x 1080 pixels), you run into a few logistics issues:

If you’ve ever tried to artificially upscale a picture into a bigger size, you’ll naturally run into some problems like pixelation and other unfortunate things, because in the end it wasn’t originally made for that bigger size. So imagine applying that to a whole video and you’ll understand why it’s not easy to just resize a video to 1080p and call it a day. Discotek has historically circumvented this problem by releasing an “SD-BD” format for shows that can’t be upscaled, but this doesn’t apply to Digimon in this case (for reasons you’ll see below).

There are Japanese Blu-rays, but the English dub footage has to be handled separately from the Japanese for the above reasons of dub cuts and edits. On top of that, as Discotek points out in their post, a lot of the English dub footage has worse quality tracing back all the way to the source.

Speaking of said Japanese Blu-rays, even those still have...problems.

The good thing is that the Japanese Blu-ray has more accurate colors to the original palette than the Japanese DVDs do. The bad thing is, uh, everything else. It might be hard to tell from this Tumblr upload alone, but something awful happened to the line quality and background details. It is, admittedly, somewhat better than dealing with DVD corruption artifacts (which is why Discotek still does an SD-BD format, since it’s better for preservation than DVDs), but it can be a bit painful to look at, and it’s why I still don’t use Blu-ray screenshots for this blog despite owning 02′s.

Now, on the other hand, you have the movies. I’ve made posts about this before (see: Digimon Adventure, Our War Game!, Hurricane Touchdown, and Diablomon Strikes Back), but the Japanese DVD releases for the movies came with some seriously bad color destruction, which is finally rectified in the Blu-rays. On top of that, the movies were made for giant wide screens, so we don’t have the upscaling problem anymore, right? Everything’s fine, right?

...Or you’d hope, but unfortunately, the Japanese Blu-rays for the movies have severe sound problems compared to the DVDs. One step forward, one step back.

So as for the reason why Discotek’s announcement is such a big deal: not only are they going through the work to salvage and repair the old English dub footage, they’re even upscaling it with AstroRes AI technology, which leads to the situation where their upscale is actually better quality than the official Japanese footage remaster. Wow. If they choose to use their own remastered version for the Japanese version, too, it might outright be better than the official Japanese release, which, if you know anything about American localized releases of Blu-rays compared to their original Japanese ones, doesn’t actually happen very often. (But it does happen quite a bit with Discotek, since they’re very big on media preservation of niche things.) There seems to be a lot of detail put into this release; their presses for the discs seem to be taking obvious cues from the Japanese release of the Adventure Blu-ray (the Adventure 15th anniversary box, not the Adventure and 02 combined one; in my very biased opinion, the former is superior from a design perspective anyway).

On top of the project being overseen by With the Will’s admin MarcFBR (who, conveniently, also happens to work at Discotek), the project also seems to have longtime veteran Chris McFeely (who ran a very important Digimon website back in the day that served as a valuable resource for English dub news) and longtime Digimon fan translator and fansubber onkeikun (if you follow anything Japanese Digimon-related, you probably owe her at least part of your soul), so it seems like we have reliable people who know their stuff on both the English dub and original Japanese ends. In the case of the latter, it also is reassuring to know that there’s potential extra quality control for the translation for the Japanese version, because, well...needless to say, the history of Digimon official translation hasn’t been great either.

Digimon’s very thorny history with official translations

Contrary to popular belief, while it’s definitely Adventure’s first time getting official subtitles on home video, it’s not actually its first time getting official subtitles at all. The first time this happened was back in 2013 when some Adventure subtitles appeared for a brief time on Netflix. Allegedly, the subtitles started off bootleg bad quality before eventually getting corrections, but unfortunately we don’t have a lot of records of them because of how quickly they were taken down shortly afterwards. If we count all of Digimon and not just Adventure, 02 used to have subs on Crunchyroll even before that (yes, weirdly enough, 02 actually had official subs before Adventure did) -- but they were infamously terrible, switching between Japanese and English dub terminology and just being permeated with mistranslations in general. “Mimi became a nutritionist in her epilogue career” is still probably being quoted somewhere out there.

In fact, Toei anime having good official subtitles (at the very least, good enough that recent series like Appmon or Ghost Game can be confidently recommended without concerns) is a fairly recent thing, and even then there’s often mishaps -- Super Sentai and Kamen Rider fans can report their fair share of problems in recent Shout! Factory releases, and let’s not forget that even Kizuna came out recently with some really bad problems (which, incidentally, the aforementioned onkeikun called out publicly). On the flip side, Adventure recently made it to Crunchyroll in 2021, with the caveat that it’s only available in Europe; the footage seems to be based on the Japanese Blu-rays, and while I’m not European and can’t confirm for myself, testimony is that the translation seems to be good.

Other non-Adventure series have varying degrees of luck. 02 also made it to Crunchyroll in Europe shortly after Adventure, and while the translation is better than it used to be, testimony indicates it’s not quite as good as Adventure’s. Tamers apparently had a short-lived time on Hulu, but, well...

...Yeah...

And, of course, the things that have never gotten official English subtitles: all of the theatrical movies up to the Savers one, X-Evolution (hoping for this one might be a really long shot), and all of Frontier and Savers. Savers, Xros Wars, and Appmon don’t even have Blu-rays in Japan (with Savers especially suffering from this because it means there’s absolutely nothing to preserve it in pure digital format).

How much should I hope for? I don’t know if Discotek intends to do the movies (including The Movie or the Japanese movies) or 02 and after; I want to hope so given that the company historically has gone to comprehensively cover things that can be even more obscure than this, but I imagine this isn’t a question they can easily answer now, and for the time being I hope people can support this release to hopefully get more. You’ll have to ask them and not me about the potential status of footage for The Movie, too, given that fans haven’t had access to clean footage for that in a very, very long time. (But of course, I don’t know if you should pester them too hard about it beyond just generally showing your support and requests; if they have plans for anything else right now, it’ll certainly be under NDA.) How far will they go with this? I don’t know, but I’m grateful for anything we get, and hopefully this will set a precedent for a brighter future going forward.

They are correct, as right now the super early access is sadly my main source of income as my job has a huge summer break and I won’t get back to it until september, so over the next two months I need to scrape by with my subscription members and the occasional commission. People potentially reading fancomics on the grabber site are most probably never seeing if there’s ways to support the artist, because they never even get to interact with them.

I’ve seen a comment on the grabber site*s GOTF page that just. appaled me.

Krafter is defending all fancomics by posting comments saying the site shouldnt pull fan creator’s audiences/steal content. They got 3 downvotes.

First of all, I acknowledge that some countries are doing heavy censoring and blocking of websites.

However, the person brings up archive.org themselves. They know there’s an archive on a neutral website that is available to them that has all the pages available, if they want. Why is there a need to reupload them AGAIN? GOTF has been posted in multiple places, other than deviantart, by evan herself. I forgot the name of the site but she definitely had it up on some neutral small comic hosting page together with a bunch of others (pls provide link if u have it!).

And I also have my comic on a neutral free to use comic hosting site. There is No Need for it to be put anywhere else. You don’t need an account to comment or see the comic. My author notes and hidden comments and the way I upload the pages, they are all part of my intended experience. I put so much effort into my website, I transcribe all the dialogue, I add context tags to every page, for YOUR convenience so if you type in anything u vaguely remember abt a page, the search funtion will be able to find it.

In the answer above I said “it wasn’t a big deal”, because this happened to be before. it happened too many times before. But that was the beaten up and defeated me talking, because I couldn’t find a way to contact the reposter, again. The me that is exhausted of hearing of this shit happening to me, again. I have a watermark for a reason. I try to hide it to be not obstructive but I might change that.

Now I’m the me that’s irritated and annoyed. I’m not going to hold back for potentially hurting anyone’s feelings, I’m not holding back for fighting for myself.

Literally the whole situation wouldn’t be so bad if THE CREATORS WERE JSUT ASKED FIRST. You were able to pull all the pages from the sites, so you need to have had access to their pages. You had access to communication with them. You had the access to ask them if they were able to create a neutral website to host the comic on, because the website they use is blocked in some countries. A russian fan has come up to me asking if they can post a translated version to their VK account. They asked me and I said yes, under my conditions you can. And they did.

If the admin had come up to me about it before all this, I would’ve allowed my comic to be listed there no problem. I would’ve allowed all the issue covers to be uploaded there for discoverability and serialization accuracies, given they link to my own page to read them on my website, and that I get to chose the description text and how I’m credited.

I would’ve been okay with it.

You had the choice to use your mouth, but you didn’t.

You saw my complaints, but chose to ignore the one that mattered.

I’m tired of the many times I’m notified of yet ANOTHER person badly uploading my comic to youtube. I’m tired of seeing those reposts get so much attention and people in the comments acting like the person uploading the repost has any control over the comic itself. I’m tired of not being appreciated for the hard work I’m doing.

I’m doing all this for free, I’m trying. Making comics and maintaining the website and maintaining a LIFE BESIDES THAT is hard. It’s really fucking hard. So it hurts every time when I see people have the audacity, the disrespect, to treat the efforts of my HEART AND SOUL like fast consumerist scraps. I’ve spent a third of my life on this comic, all for NOTHING in return but love and air. I know I’m partially at fault for this, but I’m neglecting time and resources for marketing my commissions, I’m neglecting my original graphic novel, I’m neglecting applying to jobs, all so i can focus on working on THOAM, because it’s fun and I love it and it means just SO MUCH to me. I’m a very emotional person and this comic is an important outlet for me to work through and express that. I’m content just doing this for myself, I could just stop posting and be happy with it. But I know that some of you have a strong attatchment to it to, and I appreciate the heartfelt and honest support I’ve recieved for this series over the years.

But in the end I also do all this for people that act like art is just a magical thing that pops into existence, as if it didn’t have a background of hours upon hours of tireing labour. All for people that ignore the big “DO NOT REPOST” watermark, and repost it, because who cares about the artists’ wishes.

And idk if the admin will see this post too, maybe they will ignore it, I wouldn’t know. But I hope you’ll think critically about what you’re doing. I’d be ashamed of not having had the guts to at least fucking ask.

PS: I don't hate or am against the grabber site; I think the archiving bit of this site is great. I think a volunteer based no advertisement no monetization archive of sonic comics is GREAT. Especially because the older comics have become extremely obscure and it's hard to keep track of what exists. especially for new fans that are JUST getting into it all.

I also think using the site to PROMOTE fan comics is a good idea, as long as like. they are not directly fucking hosted on the page as full on reposts, as mentioned above. <3 ok that's it from me for real. i gave my constructive criticism.

im wrongfully credited though ;_; the username for me is wrong (i dont have a dash in it) + tehre's no actual link to like. me as a person it's just my name (ppl are lazy idk how many ppl will put in the effort to actually find me instead of just subscribing to the comic on grabber zone) and i would prefer if the actual website was linked, instead of the tumblr

and also just the fact i wasn't notified of it. the comic pages all have this big watermark saying DO NOT REPOST.................

hi, this question is just about uploading mp3s since i’ve been having some trouble with that. what methods do you use to upload the audio files? whenever i try, even if the mp3 file is way under 10mb, tumblr won’t allow me to upload it :< have you encountered a problem like this before?

I usually download them using a Y0utube to MP3 website, and if necessary I'll use Aud4city to put a ten second blank at the front of the song so that Tumblr doesn't recognize the song as copyrighted and puts a Sp0tify link in its stead (common method used by blogs like @/lovestereo and @/digitalmp3).

I think your problem might just be that? So try using some free audio editing software to put 10 empty seconds in front of the audio, that's usually a foolproof method.

If you want a visual of my process:

Find a Y0utube to mp3 converter, and copy in the link of the song you want to downl0ad. (Here's the one you see pictured).

2. Open audio editing software. I use Aud4city (without the 4, I'm just censoring it), which is free and p easy to figure out. So the rest of this post is assuming you're using Aud4city.

3. Open your downl0aded audio file

This is what it looks like after you've opened it

4. Go to the little bar at the left of the track and click select

Which makes it look like this

See how the bar with the numbers is blue now?

5. Then you'll want to move the file to the right so there are 10 seconds in front of it. The bar with the numbers indicates the number of seconds.

You can zoom in so the numbers are more precise

Now you wanna move the track until the beginning of it lines up with the 10 second mark. I usually do this on my laptop so when I move it, it looks like this

I just click the top part of the track where the file name is written (the part that's a little darker than the box where the soundwaves are) and then I drag right. My cursor turns into that little hand when I hover it over that area.

Though in other versions, before you can start dragging the soundwaves box you have to click on this button

The little arrows, which is the time shift tool. You click on that and then you can drag the track around at your leisure.

Just make sure the audio is completely stopped and isn't just paused, or else you won't be able to use the time shift tool and/or move the track.

This is what a track looks like paused after you've been playing it.

You'll see the green marker sitting there over the track. And this is what it looks like stopped.

No green marker, and the stop button is greyed out.

6. Now after you've put the ten silent seconds, you're gonna want to export the file.

And you need to export it, not save it. Do not click Save Project, that will create and Aud4city file, not and audio file. After you click export mp3

Save the file somewhere you can reach it easily. If you're saving it in the same place the original audio file is (the one without the 10 second spaced in), either rename it or replace it. It doesn't really matter, so long as the final file you have is the edited audio file.

Then after you save, it'll show you this

Which is unimportant, you don't need to fill it in unless you want to. Click ok, and then you're done!

When you close out of Aud4city it'll ask you if you want to save the file into an Aud4city file. You can click yes or no, whatever you want, it won't affect the audio file you've just exported.

7. Go onto Tumblr, make an audio post, insert the new edited file in, and now it should work!

and then fill in the necessary fields (song name, artist name, album art, etc). Click yes on the "I am authorized to publish this" thing. Yes you're lying, no it doesn't matter.

And there you go! Hope this helps! Making this post unrebloggable so I don't risk getting this blog in trouble if it spreads.
