Lore!!!!!
(Please read)
Tumblr media
Neil gets transported into whatever media that i attach myself to, he can respawn and remembers his deaths.
He just wants to go home, but knows that he never will get eternal rest.
He got dropped into fear and hunger: termina first, scarring him and desensitizing him to death, despair and fear. So he already had gotten familiar with depravity.
Because termina is hard as balls to complete, neil teams up with the worst man alive, Caligura (this info will be quite important later) because he wouldn’t feel bad for killing scum.
Many would think that he would be a husk of a man, you would be right but he became more wacky.
Tumblr media
Neil’s inclusion warps the plot of each media he gets dragged into, some characters may be aware of this phenomenon. Most aren’t though.
What being in termina does to a mfer:
Tumblr media
Neil dislikes jimmy, mostly because he’s in de nile about being an awful bitch. At least Caligura knew he was a monster and admitted it (literally his moonscorched form is a giant ballsack 💀)
But for some reason, Neil is still drawn to jimmy; maybe it’s because he’s mentally ill, having the habit of attaching himself to emotionally abusive/ unavailable men (daddy issues) or like a vulture to a dying animal, unknowingly attracted to misfortune and death.
Tumblr media
He (somehow) gotten hired by pony express last minute and was a last minute addition to the crew as a second medic (reality bending really be doing the legwork).
Tumblr media
At the end, neil would definitely torment a hallucinating jimmy because its fucking funny.

Hi!! Your tips really helps me out very much and im thankful for that and your hard work :)) Do you have any ideas on how I can begin my story without making it boring for the readers? Like make it more intressting when you read the first pagragh, etc.
Writing an Interesting Beginning
Thank you so much for your kind words! ♥
There are three things that are especially helpful for creating an interesting beginning:
finding the right place to start your story
beginning when something interesting is happening
beginning when things are in motion
Let's Start with Basic Story Structure
Before we get started, it's worthwhile to revisit basic story structure. Although there are a variety of different story structures, most stories more or less fit this basic structure:
Tumblr media
The rising action of your story is set off by the "inciting incident," or in other words, the thing that happens that turns your character's life upside down or sets them off on a new path. Everything before that is setup, introducing the protagonist, the world and setting, anyone who is important to the protagonist at the start of the story, and moving the pieces into place for the inciting incident to occur.
Finding the Right Place to Start Your Story
The first thing you might want to do here is make a list of the things you need to accomplish before the inciting incident. Which characters need to be introduced? What parts of the world and setting need to be setup? What does the reader need to know about the character's situation? What else do they need to know before the inciting incident happens?
The next thing you want to do is think about your character's normal life, before the inciting incident. What does an average day look like for them? Do they do anything unusual, like play a sport, sing in a band, or work at an amusement park?
Beginning When Something Interesting is Happening
Your goal is to look at their everyday life and find something interesting that could be happening. Ultimately, you're looking for something that:
provides an overview of the protagonist and their normal life
introduces the setting and story world
introduces any other characters important at the beginning
introduces the protagonist's internal conflict
illustrates something about protagonist's life that needs to change
highlights any existing traits or skills that will be important later
introduces important back story details
starts laying the foundation for the inciting incident
is so interesting it hooks the reader's attention instantly
Beginning When Things Are in Motion
The Scorpio Races by Maggie Stiefvater begins with horses racing along a beach. The first chapter of Neverwhere by Neil Gaiman starts with a girl running through tunnels, finally finding a hiding place. L.M. Montgomery opened Anne of Green Gables by describing the course of the brook that runs past the home of Mrs. Rachel Lynde. The Road by Cormac McCarthy begins with a father reaching out in the night to check on his sleeping son, to make sure he's still safe. Movement draws your reader into the story. It's like opening a play with a dance number rather than a narrator standing on stage, rattling off a bunch of information.
Even if your story has to open in a moment where there's not anything really exciting going on, finding a way to add movement is still helpful. In The Road, the man and his son are asleep and nothing of particular interest is happening in that moment, but the man reaching into the darkness to make sure his son is still there--that's still movement, and the desperation of that moment is interesting in and of itself.

How To Edit Your Writing
Guest Poster: Chronicwhimsy
Here is our final Writer Workshop post, written by Chronicwhimsy. Have a read and then head over to the Discord Server where we have a channel for you to take part in a discussion based on the post, with chances to share your own ideas too.
Editing: a drive-by guide
Hi, my name is Claire, and I’m an editor.
(Hi Claire)
I’ve been asked to give a quick guide on tips for editing your stories, as I’ve been a beta/editor for various fanfic writers over the years. I’m a professional editor, working for a publishing house in the UK, and I offer independent freelance editing too, via my website. I’ll be on the Discord server answering questions this evening, but I’m also happy to chat to people either through my website or even if you wanted to drop me a line on tumblr.
The key thing to remember about editing is that the end goal is to make your story the best it can be, and make sure your initial idea comes across as clearly and purely as you first imagined it. It’s about ensuring that the lines of communication between you and your reader are 100% open.
To do that, you need to have finished your story, because you can’t fix something that doesn’t exist.
Then you edit.
What now?
So, you’ve finished your Winterhawk Olympic Bang Fic, and you’re wondering what to do next?
The very first, and most important thing you should do? Celebrate. I mean congratulate the hell out of yourself, pat yourself on the back, and have some cake. Finishing stories is hard. Getting through a first draft is one of the trickiest parts of writing, so you should be proud of yourself, and proud of your story.
Because in a short while, editing is going to make you hate both.
I mean that in the nicest possible way of course, but you absolutely are going to be thoroughly sick of this whole thing by the time you’re done, and you’re going to question everything you’ve ever written. You’re going to get a close-up view of all your narrative bad habits which will make you think you’ve never had any skill at all, and you’re going to re-read your work so many times that it’ll feel trite, old, uninspired. This is normal and it is your brain lying to you. If you remember nothing else, remember that!
“The writing itself is no big deal. The editing, and even more than that, the self-doubt, is excruciatingly impossible.” Jonathan Safran Foer
Don’t lose faith! Editors and editing exist for a reason, no first draft is perfect. You’ve done something amazing in finishing, and now you’re going to make it incredible.
Before You Start - Take a Break
You know the phrase “can’t see the wood for the trees”? It could just as easily be “can’t see the story for the words.” It’s never recommended to go straight into editing as soon as you finish writing, and part of the reason for that is because you’re too deep in the story to be able to assess it objectively, or to catch things that are missed out because you know they’re there, but the reader wouldn’t.
“Once it's done, put it away until you can read it with new eyes. When you're ready, pick it up and read it, as if you've never read it before.” Neil Gaiman
Most writers and editors advocate putting a story away for a month or so before returning to edit, so you’re looking at it with fresh eyes. Obviously, with a Big Bang (or other fic event) this sort of time is usually at a premium! Try and make as much space as you can while still leaving yourself time to edit.
If you really don’t have any time, one trick that can help is changing your location. If you write in your room, can you relocate to your kitchen? Or a café (if you can safely)? Could you print it out? (Printing Top Tip: if you do print it, try and do it double-spaced - this makes it easier on the eyes, and gives you room to make notes. Also, serif fonts can often be easier to read than sans serif fonts, as it gives stronger distinctions between different letters.)
The Filter System
I like to think of the editing process as a series of different filters which, when used one after the other, produce a finely-sieved finished product. Each filter stage has slightly smaller holes than the one before it, as you look increasingly closely at your work.
Filter 1: Structural editing
Does the story make sense? Is the pace okay? Do all the scenes work where they are, or would they be better elsewhere? Do some scenes need to be there at all? Is the characterisation consistent? Does anyone change names halfway through? Did you forget what time of year it was set halfway through?
Filter 2: Line editing
Is this phrase as tight as it could be? Have you repeated yourself anywhere? Does this sentence add anything or does it throw the pace off? Have you gone overboard with adjectives and similes? Have you been too sparse with them?
Filter 3: Copy editing
Is your style consistent? Did you start writing in present tense and switch to past tense? Could this scene transition be snappier? Are there any bits that you want to tidy up? Have you left any half-finished sentences because you got distracted before you could end it?
Filter 4: Proofreading
Is everything spelled correctly? Have you caught all the strange grammar mistakes?
Some of these things might be picked up by your beta reader if you have one. Different beta readers have different styles, and also they will work based on their relationship with you and what you prefer. Some may stick to proofreading and consistency-checking, others may be more confident to dive right in and look at structure, pacing and characterisation. Some may work through the process with you as you write, others may only look at the story when it’s complete so they can get a full overview. There is no right or wrong answer, and having a conversation with your beta about your respective styles at the start can help you work better together!
Filter 1 - Structural Editing
For this stage, you want to read your whole story through from start to finish, and resist the urge to tweak anything to begin with! You will want a way of making notes as you go through because as you do, you’ll make yourself a cheat-sheet to help you with your line edit. Things to keep track of:
Character name spellings
Character ages
Character relationships (drawing a relationship web can be very helpful to visualise this!)
The time span of the story - the date it starts, the date it ends.
As a subset of this, I find it can be very helpful to set up a spreadsheet with a timeline of what happens in the story, and who is involved. Doing this both chronologically for the characters and in order of how it happens in the story can help you keep track of what characters know when, and also when the readers find out certain information. You might have one of these from when you were planning your story (as detailed in Sara Holmes’ workshop). If you’ve kept it up to date with changes to the plot and structure as you’ve written, this will be super helpful.
At this stage, you’re looking to see if everything works as a consistent story. You want to check to see if it feels like it’s the right pace, or if there are bits where it drags or rushes through the action. Why is this? Are there scenes which aren’t adding anything to the progress? Could they just be referred to in passing, or removed entirely without impacting the story? Are there other scenes which need to be added to provide more detail and growth? Is there anything that you as a writer know that is essential to the story, but you forgot to actually put in the text?
“Crafty writers...don't allow Exposition to form Lumps. They break up the information, grind it fine, and make it into bricks to build the story with.” Ursula K. Le Guin
You’re also looking to see if the characters feel true to themselves all the way through. Do the relationships spark? Do they sound like themselves? Can you hear them in your head?
Some people recommend doing several structural edits, with a different focus each time. One pass to look at the pacing, one pass to look at the characters, one to look at the story arc. You’ll work out what floats your boat, but you will be re-reading this story a lot of times before you’re done editing - which is why it’s very important to write what you love and want to read! You’ll go through many stages of hating this story before you let it go, and that will be even harder if it wasn’t something you enjoyed in the first place.
Filter 2 - Line Editing
So you remember I told you to make all those notes during your structural edit? Here’s where you’re going to use them. Now’s the time to go through your story line by line and check that the details in your cheat sheet are correct all the way through the story. I’ve written a novel that I initially set in November, but by the time I finished it, I’d decided it was taking place in early May. I had to go back and fix all the dates and weather descriptions to make sure the action hadn’t actually been yeeted forward six months spontaneously in the middle of a conversation.
Arguably, the line edit will be the most painful part of editing. At this stage, you will be taking a fine-tooth comb to everything you have written, examining it to within an inch of its life, and casting judgement. You’re going to find every stylistic tic you have (for me, everyone is constantly quirking their eyebrows and smirking like they’ve got cramp in their facial muscles), and you’re going to get rid of them (a person only has so many eyebrows, and they can only quirk so far). Now is the time to kill your darlings - don’t hang on to anything unless you feel it’s really doing a job to further the story and the characters.
“Kill your darlings, kill your darlings, even when it breaks your egocentric little scribbler's heart, kill your darlings.” Stephen King
If you have ever worried about the unbearable sensation of being Known, the line edit is where you will experience that with every word, and you’ll be doing it to yourself. This is when the doubts will really start to creep in and you will maybe feel like everything you write is unoriginal, derivative trash and unfit for human eyes.
Here I’ll reiterate what I said above:
This is a normal feeling, everyone experiences it when editing. E V E R Y O N E.
It’s a lie. No-one else will ever read your story in this state, no-one else will ever read your story this closely. Of course it feels obvious and uninspired to you - you wrote it. It’s your idea, and you’ve read it several times, it holds no surprises for you. (I may be projecting my feelings from every time I’ve edited something here, but…)
You’ll also be catching any ELEPHANTS or whatever your mammal of choice for placeholder text is that you’ve stationed throughout the story as a flag for you to come back and add in a name, or a food, or a song title later. You know, the things you decided were a problem for Future! You. I have bad news, the future is now.
Top Tip: if you have changed someone’s name halfway through, DON’T for the love of Mike, just do a straight find and replace to correct it. Because that’s when you suddenly find out how many other words actually contain names (Mark became Bill? That’s great, until your characters are going to the superBillet to buy groceries). Some word processing programmes have a “whole word” option which is your friend, otherwise ensure to put spaces either side of the word when you search. If you don’t, you’ve just made another horrible job for yourself...
Filter 3 - Copy Editing
Once you’ve made it out the other side of the Line Edit (and given yourself a nice treat to congratulate yourself because that stage is HARD), we get onto copy editing. This is basically the set-dressing stage. You’ve built the house, you’ve decorated the room, and now you’re just making sure every bit of furniture is in the right place for optimal feng shui.
Here’s where you go through and go, do I really need a dash here, or could I just use a comma? Could I use fewer commas? Could I go in and move all of @kangofu_cb’s commas around because I’m the sort of person who will come into your house and change how you hang your toilet paper or where you keep your ketchup.
Now is the time to be as picky as possible, like you’re an interior designer for the most demanding client in the world and the ornament must be exactly equidistant from both ends of the mantlepiece and facing precisely south-west. Things that may have just survived your line edit will be measured again, and if they’re found wanting, then they get binned.
“Substitute ‘damn’ every time you’re inclined to write ‘very’; your editor will delete it and the writing will be just as it should be.” Mark Twain
Another thing you might like to do here is check that all your features and things are correct. Did you make a wild claim about the lifecycle of salamanders, or the average price of corn and then never go back to verify this? Take a second to just do that now. It may be that you decide it’s not a problem (I received one copy edit note saying that an idiom used in a book wasn’t recorded until 200 years later, and I made the editorial decision that no-one would care), but for bigger things you may want to make sure you’re accurate.
If you google it (as I just did, to make sure I was definitely giving you the right information), copy editing is often conflated with line editing, and that’s because in reality a lot of the elements of copy editing actually wouldn’t usually be done by the author, and are probably irrelevant to fanfic. The copy editor is responsible for ensuring the book has a consistent grammatical style in line with the preferences of the publisher (em-dash or en-dash, curly quote marks or straight ones, how you deal with acronyms, what needs to be italicised, etc. etc.), which isn’t necessarily required for fanfic. In reality, for fanfic I’d use this stage as a second, lighter line-edit to see where things can be tightened up in phrasing, as well as perhaps a preliminary proofread where you start to mark up any spelling errors.
Filter 4 - Proofreading
By this stage, you’ll be exhausted, and sick to death of the blasted thing. But the end is in sight! Now you’re onto the proofread. This is another close read, where you go through and check for spelling errors, typos, missing full stops, strange formatting stuff (which probably will be less of an issue as AO3 basically makes everything uniform anyway).
Before you even start this, change your font.
We’ve all been there, thought we’d caught every spelling error, every weird typo, only to spot six immediately after posting. That’s because after a certain point our brain becomes used to the font we’ve written in, and will automatically correct things that aren’t right. AO3 has its own unique formatting - colour, spacing, font - and the minute your fic appears on there in this new format you brain wakes up and is like “oh shit, yeah, that’s not how it should be.”
By changing the font before you proofread, you preempt this step.
Another thing to remember: it’s unlikely you will ever catch every mistake. Published books regularly go out with a smattering of typographical errors throughout the text - how many first editions of books are valuable because of misspellings that slipped through the net? You’re only human.
“Connie's other job was proof-editing which she did very badly. Transferring the author's corrections to a clean sheet of proofs was something Connie was unable to do without missing an average of three corrections a page, or transcribing newly inserted material all wrong... she put angry authors' letters about the mutilation of their books under the cushion of her chair to deal with later.” Muriel Spark, A Far Cry from Kensington
Often, spelling errors and things you would look for in a proofread are things that a beta reader will pick up as they go, as they’re the easiest things to spot, but it’s also worth looking over yourself for anything your beta might have missed.
Whether you decide to follow any or all of these steps, always do the proofread last. There is no point carefully spellchecking a chapter you are then going to delete, or proofreading the whole thing, but adding loads of new paragraphs later that either don’t get looked at or mean you end up having to proofread twice. That’s the only hard and fast rule when it comes to editing, and it will save you a lot of unnecessary work!
FREEDOM
And then, finally, unbelievably - you’re done. Your literary child is ready to leave the nest. Resist the urge to keep re-reading and tweaking. Instead, click “publish” and give yourself a nice little treat. You’ve earned it.
Miscellany and Disclaimers
These editing stages are ones that would be applied to a published novel. An author would probably do this several times - once on their own to get it ready for submission, then perhaps again with their agent, but the really heavy work would be done with their editor. The structural edit would be done under the advice of an agent or editor where the author looks at their comments, rejigs things accordingly, and lather, rinse, repeat until everyone’s happy. The editor would undertake the line edit, and the author would decide what they wanted to keep or change. The copy edit and proofread would be done in-house or sent to freelancers, with queries and changes wafted past the author for clarification or approval.
Self-published authors will often hire freelancers to help at various stages to get feedback and advice.
Very rarely would an author go from draft to final published piece by doing all their editing alone. Because it’s hard fucking work, and because your brain will get exhausted.
In light of that, you need to remember:
You’ve written a fanfic
The editorial standards of fanfic are significantly less stringent than published books
Editing by yourself is really hard work that many people are often paid to do for published books
No-one is paying you for your fanfic
Fanfic is supposed to be fun
Some published authors will edit and rewrite and edit and rewrite again and again. At a panel I attended, Joanne Harris said that if she didn’t rewrite her work at least five times she was being too easy on herself, while Joe Hill said he usually aimed for three rewrites - Joe edited as he went along, going over the previous day’s pages before continuing, where Joanne completed her manuscripts before editing. Elizabeth May has talked about her stages of drafting, starting with her Trash Draft, then her Clean Draft, and then rewriting and editing after that.
These are people who are writing professionally, getting paid for their work, and so the time they put in has monetary results. If you want to write original fiction, their advice is extremely valuable.
For fanfiction, it’s a large time investment for something you’re doing as a hobby for free. If I’m strictly honest, I’m fairly lax with my fanfiction editing. I do structural discussions and tweaks with my beta reader as I write, and then a spell check. I’m also aware that my fanfics aren’t narratively complex, nor do they seem as polished, rich and deep as some of the other works out there. That’s fine by me. You simply need to find the level you’re happy at, where you can still feel proud of your work but you’re enjoying the experience.
In the end - it’s all for fun!

5. Developing the Story - Neil Gaiman’s Masterclass (The Art of Storytelling)
Tumblr media
“What is a story? Eventually what I decided was, the story is anything fictional that keeps you turning the pages and doesn’t leave you feeling cheated at the end.”
Here are my notes from lesson number 5. And I wanna repeat that quote first. A story is “anything fictional that keeps you turning the pages and doesn’t leave you feeling cheated at the end”. Damn, I want to learn how to do that.
WRITING EXERCISE. On a page in your notebook titled “Brain Dump,” write everything you know about your story. Begin with the critical elements like setting, characters, and main dramatic questions or themes. Write down whatever wisps of ideas you have.
Connections are what fiction is made of.
“‘And then what happened?’ Those words, I think, are the most important words there are for a storyteller. Anything you can do to keep people turning the pages is legitimate.”
Suspense is a valuable tool for keeping a reader’s attention and interest. Suspense involves raising a major dramatic question that the reader wants answered. It is usually based on a character’s desire, and if it is not answered by the end of the book, the story will not feel complete for the reader.
Readers keep reading to find out what’s going to happen. If you don’t care what happens next, neither will your readers.
We want to know what our story is about, but may not know until we’re done. If you’re writing something, you must have something to say.
“If you get stuck, you can ask yourself what your characters want—and that is like a flashlight. It shines a light on the road ahead and lets you move forward. It’s the only question that opens the door to ‘What do you do next?’”
Examples of ways to write suspense:
Withhold information
Let your reader know things your characters don’t
Make the stakes clear
Generate conflict. Young writers avoid conflict, but conflict must be allowed to happen.
FOR YOUR NOVEL Select a chapter from your work—ideally, your opening chapter—and write down a list of the key questions your reader will have after they’ve read it. What questions have you raised? What will they want to know soon? What are the bigger questions you’re undertaking? These are promises you’re making to a reader. Come back to the these promises at a later time and make sure they’re fulfilled.
If you don’t already know your major dramatic question, title a page in your journal “Major Dramatic Question” and answer:
What is your big idea?
What social messages lie beneath your topic?
What are the highest stakes for the protagonist of your story?
What is the primary question you are raising for the reader (i.e. What issue do you promise the reader you’ll resolve by the end of the novel?)
Find a question that will sum up the main storyline of your novel and will include your main character and their goal. Write it on a slip of paper and post it near your workspace so you can see it.
READING EXERCISE Read Chapter 1 of American Gods, and identify the suspense questions being raised. What are you wondering about? What makes you curious to see what happens next? What things are left unsaid? Finally, take a guess at the book’s major dramatic question.
“Remember that characters always, for good or for evil, get what they need. They do not get what they want.”
Think of genre as a set of expectations that your reader already has, based on the type of story you’re telling. In classical terms, an epic story was an adventure, often written in poetic form. Tragedy traditionally shows someone’s downfall. Comedy is often built of the same materials as tragedy but ends on a positive note.
More on stories and genres
Watch Kurt Vonnegut’s video lecture “Kurt Vonnegut on the Shapes of Stories”. It outlines six basic types of story trajectories, which is an incredibly useful way to think about stories and genres.
“Story: Substance, Structure, Style, and the Principles of Screenwriting (1997)”, Robert McKee devotes a whole chapter to understanding the various types of genres in storytelling.
Check out Blake Snyder’s Save the Cat! Goes to the Movies: a Screenwriter’s Guide to Every Story Ever Told (2007).
WRITING EXERCISE (from the creative writing workshop that Neil teaches at Bard College). Print and cut out squares with different “Genres” and “Stories”. Toss the Genres together in a bowl, and the Stories together in a separate bowl. Choose a Story from the bowl. On a page in your notebook, write a brief outline of the story—the main points of action from beginning to end. Then choose a Genre from the other bowl. (If the Genre is too close to the story you’ve chosen, select another one.) Now consider how to take the elements of the story and change them into something new, using the new Genre as a guideline.
Comment: My head is a little full today, but I enjoyed this lesson a lot. Neil Gaiman gives examples from his own writing and his own life and it’s very inspiring. Seriously, listening to his lessons is like reading one of his short stories or essays, it’s so good.

List of 10 Free keyword Research Tools
Millions of blog posts are published online every single day.
And only 10 of them are ranked on the first page of google search engine page.
These rankings are based on good site design and SEO content on the website.
The keywords on the top-ranking website content (if you notice) are based on the keywords set to search for information.
Relevant to those typed keywords by the audience, Google pulls up websites which provide quality and informative content with proper usage of SEO keywords.
That is the beauty of good content. You cannot just write an article by using some random terms and expect it to rank on top of the google search engine or land people on your site.
So, how do you write good content with the right keywords?
To start with, you can list out the keywords related to the topic you are going to write and then, properly insert keywords wherever necessary.
Small advice - Just don’t fill your content with keywords for the sake of ranking higher.
Google is smarter than you think and will find out how much relevant and informative your content actually has.
I guess – I am going a little fast for everyone.
Alright! Let’s start with the basic - Where and how can you find relevant keywords?
Keywords that help you connect with people who are your target audience. The biggest challenge for anyone in the digital SEO world is to identify the right keywords for SEO.
Here is a piece of simple advice for you-you can find the right keyword by using something referred to as keyword research tools.
There are many free keyword research tools and paid ones (I am sure you do not want to know about them 😊 ) .
I have been using some of free keyword research tools for keyword research and have been able to identify some decent keywords based on my research.
Here is the list of 10 free keyword research tools to help you with keyword research:
Google Keyword Planner
Google offers a range of free stuff and Google Keyword Planner is one of them.
Though Google Keyword Planner is a part of the Google AdWords Campaign and it can be used for free to search for keywords.
It displays monthly search volumes and even finds out how many visitors your competitors get.
Google Keyword Planner can be used to generate a list of keywords ideas and identify trends and search volumes of a particular county or a region.
You can compare the site of your competitor’s and yours to know the difference of visitors visiting the page and improve content strategy.
The backdrop of Google Keyword Planner is you must have Google AdWords Account to use it and the other is it doesn’t show an exact number of visitors in the search volume, just the estimated results.
It also displays keywords list between 1000 to 2000 which is low compared to other free tools.
But Google Keyword Planner is been used by millions due its simple and navigational design. Using the data, you can easily identify where your stats have been dropping and where you get higher views
2. Bing Webmaster Tools
Google is the most popular search engine in the world but Bing ranks second when it comes to the popularity of the search engine.
Bing Webmaster Tools is absolutely free and gives more in-depth data than Google’s. There are features even Google cannot provide which Bing does.
Bing Keyword Search tool in Bing Webmaster Tools help you to generate data on keywords.
It helps you find only organic keyword data. In one page, it shows clicks and impressions, click through rate and positions in Bing.
The keyword search tool can be used by applying specific filters
For example,
If you write “Dresses” in the search tab, you will get results of a total number of the queries where dresses word has been used.
If you select Strict option, you can exclude the words you don’t want while searching for keywords.
It will give you a list of keywords and phrases from everywhere except the keyword you filtered out.
It is a simple to use tool with great features for the site altogether.
3. Answer the Public
With its user-friendly and informative design, Answer the public is one keyword research tool everyone should use.
It helps you to find out the number of people looking for information on the questions you type, phrases you input and even head terms.
It finds out what questions are people asking on the web and helps to create content based on the data provided by Answer the public.
They offer visualizations to give content ideas and keyword search volumes which are extremely easy to understand and create.
Answer the public can be said as consumer insight tool as you get to know what people are doing at night on the net, what questions they are asking and you get data on your target audience. This helps to make better content and also can be used for creating a content strategy.
4.SEMrush
SEMrush is highly recommended by business owners and digital marketers.
They have a free and paid version, both and offers exceptional features to form the content strategy and keyword listing ideas.
Though free users can only ask 10 queries per day, it holds important because per query displays the overview of volume organic search and CPC of paid search.
It shows phrase matched keywords and related keywords on one page. This helps you to find out keywords the people are searching related to the keyword term you typed to search.
For e.g., if you type the phrase “cheap mobile phones”, the Related Keywords might show “affordable mobile phones” and Phrase matched Keywords might show “Cheap mobiles store” and etc.
It is simple and effective to find enough information on keywords.
5.Ubersuggest
Ubersuggest is a keyword research tool introduced by Neil Patel. It is very useful tool as it provides you with keywords that are not even available in Google Keyword Planner.
Ubersuggest gives you list of keywords offered by Google Suggest. This keyword tool is quite user-friendly.
Once you type in the keywords, you get a list of keyword ideas indeed but it also helps you to download copy of the list so that you don’t forget what you previously found.
You’ll get a list of keywords for a particular term in the form of one word- two words, or you can say “head terms” and long tail keywords.
One other feature this research tool offers is that you get to know the paid difficulty and SEO difficulty in the overview page.
Paid difficulty tells you how much expensive is a particular keyword and SEO difficulty tells you the competition it faces in organic search for the keyword. The higher the number of the Keyword, the more the difficulty to rank higher in terms of SEO.
This keyword research tool like any other tool shows volumes, seasonal trends and finds keywords for you according to the country region.
It is quite a useful free tool as it gives everything you need to find keyword ideas and even helps with downloading a copy.
6. Google Trends
This another amazing tool is offered by Google as the name suggests.
Google Trends helps you to stay ahead of the competition. You just have to know how to use it.
The best feature about Google Trends is that it only shows data of the popular term used by people.
While Google Keyword search shows the search volumes, Google trends show a graphical representation of popularity trend.
The graphical representation is one of the keys of Google Trends. When you put in a particular keyword according to the regions, you can compare them both and analyze the rise in popularity or downfall of the popularity of the same keyword according to the country.
Isn’t that great?
When it comes to selling your product, you might get to know when and which country can sell your product the most and when it won’t.
7.Keywords Everywhere
This is one of the most interesting and informative tools to use to know the competition of the keywords.
Keywords Everywhere is a Google Chrome Extension that shows search volume, CPC and competition data to all your searches.
Think of it like that, how many searches you do per day in your google browser per day? Maybe in tens or hundreds.
It shows the data for every keyword search you do.
One of the cool things about this keyword tool extension is that it not only displays data on the google search engine, but also YouTube, Amazon, Bing, and many places.
This keyword research tool will keep you on toes about the competition in keywords all the time.
8. Soovle
Soovle is a keyword research tool which kind of you end playing with words.
Soovle doesn’t do well with the design. Indeed, it is easy to understand the site. But what soovle offers as a tool are extremely less time-consuming.
Soovle helps to find keywords ideas from 7 major providers of the world at one place. Those are Bing, YouTube, Google, Yahoo, Amazon, Answers.com, and Wikipedia.
It helps to get ideas and search volume from different providers at one place. This can help you create content according to the search volume around different providers.
One of the key things about Soovle is that you can click on the link of the keywords list of any provider that appears on the screen.
It also has Saved Suggestion’ feature which helps you to save phrases or keywords you want later.
You can also check out the top used search suggestions offered by the providers. It shows in alphabetical order with providers icons by the side. The icons show up to help you understand which provider the keyword was most searched.
This is a cool and fun to play with the tool. Once you start using it, it gives you great content ideas plus tells you where the competition lies and fun to just type in keywords.
You may end up for hours using it.
9.Keyword Shitter
This tool doesn’t give you search volumes, CPC or anything.
But it really “dumps” a lot of keywords.
It just offers you an insane amount of keywords list. That’s it. The list just keeps increasing until you press the stop button.
The list of keywords can get big if you don’t stop. Seriously.
You can download the list within seconds.
It has one feature though. The positive filter and negative filter.
For e.g., if you enter “online” in the positive box and “dresses” in the keyword box. You will get results like this:
                                                             dresses online
                                                          dresses online India
                                                           dresses buy online
                                                         dresses cheap online
And if you enter “online” in the negative box” and “dresses” in the keyword box. Here are the suggestions you will get:
                                                       dresses for girls
                                                   dresses for women
                                                    dresses from sarees
                                                     dresses for Diwali
You must have understood the difference.
In the positive filter, it will show queries inclusive on that word and in negative it will not show you query exclusive of that word.
Well, if you just want the keywords and planning to prepare a list of topics, this tool will help you for sure.
10.Wordtracker
Wordtracker has a free version as well as paid version.
The paid version indeed offers excellent features but free version can do quite a work if you ask me.
It gives you suggestions according to the country. On the page, you will get a list of suggestions around the word you input and list of keyword ideas as well.
If you type in “dresses”, you will get suggestions like apparel, cloth, groom, garnish etc. And it will list only 50 keywords, given the free version.
You can see the metrics such as CPC if you select PPC tab and IAAT (total count of web pages where keywords are included both in the title and also in the text) if you select SEO tab.
It also has including keyword feature and excluding keyword feature like Keyword Shitter.
I hope this list helps you to find a good keyword research tool according to your needs.
These tools will definitely help you to create content ideas or content strategy and may even help you to spy on your competitors and stay ahead of the game.

House Republicans Attack Blinken Over Handling Of Afghanistan Withdrawal
Secretary of State Tony Blinken is being lambasted by Republicans at the House Foreign Affairs Committee for the handling of the US withdrawal from Afghanistan and subsequent evacuation.
Michael McCaul, the ranking Republican on the committee, said: This, in my judgment, is not only disgraceful. It also dishonors the men and women who served our nation so bravely. Mr Secretary, the American people dont like to lose, especially not to the terrorists, but that is exactly what has happened. This has emboldened the Taliban and our adversaries.
To make matters worse, we abandoned Americans behind enemy lines, we left behind the interpreters who you, Mr Secretary, and the President, both promised to protect. I could summarize this in one word: Betrayal, McCaul added.
The America I know keeps its promises. The most important promise in our military is no man left behind, no one left behind. But you broke this promise.

Illinois Sen Dick Durbin Taking Gavel Of The Powerful Senate Judiciary Committee
Illinois senior U.S. senator, Dick Durbin, will officially take the gavel as chairman of the powerful Senate Judiciary Committee as a result of a power-sharing agreement reached Wednesday between Democratic and Republican leaders in the evenly split chamber.
Democrats technically have majority control of the Senate due to Vice President Kamala Harris ability to cast tiebreaking votes. But organizing of the chamber had been delayed due to the insistence by the Senates GOP leader, Mitch McConnell of Kentucky, that the 60-vote filibuster rule be preserved in exchange for installing Democrats as committee chairs.
McConnell later dropped that demand when two Democrats said they supported keeping the filibuster.
Proud to announce that I will be taking over as Chair of the Senate Judiciary Committee for the 117th Congress, Durbin said in a statement on Twitter. This moment in history demands much of the Senate Judiciary Committee. Im honored to lead my colleagues as we face these challenges.
Durbin, who is the No. 2 ranking Democrat in the chambers leadership, has served on the judiciary committee since 1997 and has seen the panels reach expanded to include issues such as civil and human rights. To accept the chairmans gavel, Durbin gave up a role on a top Senate appropriations subcommittee.

At a Guardian Live online discussion, Hillary Clinton was asked by the Guardians Jonathan Freedland whether she would have advised Joe Biden not to have gone ahead with the Afghan withdrawal if she had been in the administration.
In her reply, Clinton staunchly defended Biden, putting all the blame on Donald Trump, and the deal he made with the Taliban in Doha in February 2020.
I dont think he had that choice, she said. I think that it was way too far gone, and I respect the decision to leave. In effect, President Bidens hands were tied because the Taliban had made it very clear, there would be a ceasefire with respect to the American presence in Afghanistan, not only the military but also the civilian presence which was considerable.
Beginning Of The Committee
The Senate Judiciary Committee was created in the early 1800s in response to growing complexities in American government. The Senate established the body’s original standing committees, including the Senate Judiciary Committee, in a resolution adopted on December 10, 1816. The United States House of Representatives Committee on Judiciary had been established three years prior. The first chairman of the committee was Senator Dudley Chase of Vermont, who was appointed and served during the second session of the 14th Congress.

Prelogar Sails Through Nomination Hearing With Only Mild Republican Critiques
Elizabeth Prelogar, President Joe Bidens nominee to be solicitor general, sat through a swift nomination hearing on Tuesday afternoon. Appearing before the Senate Judiciary Committee, she was met with strong praise from Democrats, limited pushback from Republicans, and few questions overall.
From Bidens inauguration on Jan. 20 until her nomination to the position of solicitor general on Aug. 11, Prelogar served as acting solicitor general. Due to a quirk in the Federal Vacancies Reform Act, she had to step down from her acting role while the Senate considers her nomination to hold the position on a permanent basis. The solicitor general represents the federal governments interests before the Supreme Court and is sometimes known as the 10th justice because of the influence that the job carries.
Two Republicans homed in on the solicitor generals office for reversing the governments legal position in a number of cases since the change in administrations. Sen. Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa, quoted from a Bloomberg Law article that the Biden administration is on track to reverse the governments position in more cases before the Supreme Court than the Justice Department did during the first full high court term of Donald Trumps presidency. Grassley questioned Prelogar on whether continuing in a similar vein would pose challenges to the offices credibility.

Meet The Cabinet: Merrick Garland Is Bidens Pick For Attorney General
Garland testified before the panel last week about how he would lead the Justice Department if he is confirmed by the Senate, reassuring senators that he would protect the department’s independence and not allow politics to interfere with the job.
In comments before the vote, committee Chair Dick Durbin, D-Ill., said, “America will be better with this kind of person leading the Justice Department.”
Grassley said a moment later: “I plan to vote for him. I hope my trust is not misplaced.”
Other Republicans were harsher. Cruz claimed that Garland “refused to answer virtually anything” during his confirmation hearings an assertion that Durbin disputed.
Cornyn told reporters last week that Garland is “a straight shooter when it comes to questions of law.” He said “he’s had an incredible career” and “seems like a fundamentally decent human being.”
Other Republicans on the committee, including some possible 2024 presidential contenders, like Hawley, were less enthusiastic and expressed strong reservations.
Garland emphasized that if he is confirmed, he would “supervise the prosecution of white supremacists and others who stormed the Capitol on January 6 a heinous attack that sought to disrupt a cornerstone of our democracy: the peaceful transfer of power to a newly elected government.”
In response to a question from Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse, D-R.I., Garland said he would not rule out investigating those who funded, organized, led and otherwise aided the attack on the Capitol.
Merrick Garland Nomination Limbo Encapsulates Complicated Situation
The Senate is still operating in a fraught liminal space, in which Democrats have control of the chamber but Republicans retain power over committees. Negotiations between Majority Leader Charles E. Schumer and Minority Leader Mitch McConnell are dragging on a month into the 117th Congress, and complicating Cabinet confirmations.
Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders, an independent who caucuses with Democrats, said Monday night he thought an organizing resolution might clear the floor the following day. And a few Republicans thought that was the plan Tuesday morning. But it never materialized.
Were making progress, and were getting close, Schumer told reporters Tuesday, not providing a timeline for when the Senate might act.
One signal that a deal may actually be close was Schumers announcement Tuesday afternoon of committee assignments for the Democratic Conference.
Among the highlights of those assignments: The two Georgia freshmen whose tandem wins tipped the chamber toward Democratic control were assigned to key panels: Jon Ossoff to Judiciary and Raphael Warnock to Agriculture.
They will also both serve on the Banking Committee and a handful of other panels.
Arizona Democrat , a retired Navy pilot and astronaut who won a special election in November, will serve on the Armed Services Committee, as well as on Energy and Natural Resources and on Environment and Public Works.

The New and Improved Ubersuggest: Better Data
Tumblr media
With SEO one of the most important things is data.
You make your decisions based on what the data tells you.
If you make a change and your rankings go up, you know you’ve made the right choice.
And if your rankings go down, well, you’ll have to look into what happened and why.
But SEO data goes far beyond just rankings.
And in Ubersuggest we provide those metrics such as backlinks count, newly found links, domain authority, estimated traffic, keyword volume, and even rankings.
But how good is that data?
A new and improved link index
As the saying goes… why would you reinvent the wheel, right?
And that is the case.
There are so many link indexes out there from companies like Moz, Ahrefs, Semrush, SEO Power Suite, and Majestic to just scratch the surface, why would we go and create the same thing all over again?
So we now have Moz link data within Ubersuggest.
Anytime you perform a backlink check you’ll see a report that looks something like this:
Tumblr media
As you can see the new report looks similar to the old one, but with a much bigger data set.
You can see your link growth over time, the number of new and lost links, overall link count, your domain authority, anchor text, and when the link was even discovered or lost.
In addition to that you can filter links so you can quickly find what you are looking for…
Tumblr media
What cool about this change is now when you use Ubersuggest not only will you have a much better link index but you will also notice that we pick up links much faster.
In addition to that we are rolling out a few new link features over the incoming months:
Better link notifications – we will notify you when you lose or gain links, that way you don’t have to keep coming back to Ubersuggest.
Competitor tracking – you’ll be able to more easily track your competitors growth from a link perspective.
Historical data – more historical data on metrics like Domain Authority will be added so you can see if it is growing or decreasing over time.
Anchor text aggregation – we will soon provide an overview of anchor text so you can see the most common used anchor text for any domain or even page.
Domain authority distribution – when we add this feature you will be able to see how many sites in each domain authority range are linking to you. For example, how many domain authority 80 plus links does a site have.
Link intersect – this feature will show you all the people that link to your competition and not you so you can more easily find links.
If you haven’t seen the new link data in Ubersuggest, go here and put in your URL. Take it for a spin. ?
A new and improved traffic estimation
Similar to improving our link estimation, we have also been working on improving our traffic estimation formula.
If you haven’t, go to Ubersuggest and type in a competitor’s domain.
Tumblr media
Keep in mind the traffic estimation will never be perfect or 100% accurate. Not just in Ubersuggest but any marketing tool.
But you can use that data to see how you are performing relative to your competition.
And to make that even simpler, within Ubersuggest you can see how you do to your competition get a relative idea of how you really stack up. All you have to do is click on the “Competing Domains” navigational link and you will see a report like this.
Tumblr media
It shows who is competes against you as well as what keywords they rank for that you don’t. This is called “keywords gap”. You can use this data to easily find more keywords to go after.
Tumblr media
And my favorite feature is still “Top Pages”. It shows you all of the top pages on your competitor’s site. It gives you an idea of the type of pages/content you should be creating.
Tumblr media
Within that report, you can even drill down what keywords each of those pages ranks for.
Tumblr media
Or who is linking to each URL.
Tumblr media
Over time you’ll also see the traffic estimations formula improve as well. As our goal is to keep giving you the most accurate and up to date SEO information out there.
You can now track your competition
Since our data quality has improved, we thought we would add one more thing, that would make things a bit easier for you.
Because hey, there just isn’t enough time in the day.
So if you haven’t, go to the dashboard and create a project. The steps are pretty simple so I won’t bore you with the details…
But as you are creating a project, it will prepopulate your competition (or you can manually add them) and track how they are performing compared to you.
The screen will look something like this.
Tumblr media
Once you’ve filled it all in, your dashboard will look something like this:
Tumblr media
And when you click on the competitors box, it will take you to a report that looks like this:
Tumblr media
That way you can see your traffic versus their’s over time. As well as backlink data and keyword data.
Conclusion
So what do you think about the new link index we are using?
Of course we don’t pick up links as fast as Google, but I doubt anyone does as they have so many servers.
But you’ll see a big improvement, plus you’ll now have a much more accurate domain authority reading on your site.
And if you want to know your authority you can just go here and just type in your URL.
So what do you think about our new link index and other features?

Tumblr media
As promised back in July when the first trailer for THE SHAPE OF WATER (Dir. Guillermo del Toro) dropped my hope for some time now has been to put together a series of posts dealing with this film leading up to its release which I have now come to understand will be Dec. 8th in NYC/LA and most likely Dec. 15th everywhere else. I wanted to do this because as I asserted in my original post, SHAPE is clearly a homage to Universal Studio’s classic monster movie THE CREATURE FROM THE BLACK LAGOON (1954, Dir. Jack Arnold) which, though perhaps not widely recognized as such, is a work of paleo-fiction as its entire premise revolves around a paleontological expedition to the Amazon to look for fossils after a single skeletal humanoid forelimb dating to the Devonian period is found. Of course once our explorers reach the fabled Black Lagoon they quickly discover more than just fossils.
Since that time writer/director Guillermo del Toro has openly confirmed that CREATURE was, in fact, the principal inspiration for SHAPE based largely on his rather unorthodox reaction to viewing the film when he was six…
LAT: Going back to the beginning, what was the initial germ of this movie?
GDT: I’ve had this movie in my head since I was 6, not as a story but  as   an idea. When I saw the creature swimming under Julie Adams [in 1954’s “Creature From the Black Lagoon”], I thought three things: I thought, “Hubba-hubba.” I thought, “This is the most poetic thing I’ll ever see.” I was overwhelmed by the beauty. And the third thing I thought is, “I hope they end up together.”
LAT: I kind of doubt that’s what most 6-year-olds were thinking.
GDT: No, I’m a weird one. [Source]
Now my original intention was to put together a kind of historical overview of the literary and cinematic elements which both connect Universal’s CREATURE to del Toro’s SHAPE as well as those which predate CREATURE. Alas once I actually began researching the matter I quickly realized that I had resigned myself to an abyss of unfathomable depth which I have neither the time nor resources to adequately explore at this current phase. This does not mean that I am abandoning my original plan however. Instead what will follow from this point forth will be a highly abridged, limited and non-comprehensive overview of this subject. In other words, I’m going to be leaving a lot of stuff out and I’m going to be doing so intentionally. Nevertheless I feel strongly that what I do have to present will still be of interest to followers of this blog. We’re going to be churning the depths, plunging back in time to locate the very origins of the creature at the heart of THE SHAPE OF WATER.
TAKING SHAPE: PALEONTOLOGICAL ORIGINS When thinking about where to begin with a series dealing with the history of amphibious humanoids the first thought which crossed my mind was that we would need to start with the mermen and mermaids of myth and legend. This would take us back to the very beginnings of human civilization as depictions of mermen can be found carved on the stone walls of the Assyrian city of Dur-Sharrukin which dates back as far as 706 BCE. However upon further consideration it occurred to me that such a trip back to hoary antiquity seemed entirely unnecessary. Why? Because the amphibious humanoids featured in both del Toro’s THE SHAPE OF WATER and Universal’s THE CREATURE FROM THE BLACK LAGOON are not mermen. They’re Gill-men.
Now before anyone says anything I am well aware that everyone from Guillermo del Toro on down has been calling the creature in SHAPE a merman. That’s fine. I’m not about to fault anyone for the use of familiar nomenclature, especially when trying to sale/explain a concept as admittedly offbeat as the one which comprises the narrative core of SHAPE. That said I am going to make a distinction here, because while mermen/mermaids are certainly kith and kin to gill-men/gill-women they are nevertheless not the same. This is not merely an issue of semantics but rather one of taxonomy. There are a number of fundamental differences between mermen and gill-men and the first, and perhaps most important, is present right in their very names.
Gill-men have gills. Mermen don’t.
Naturally a lack of gills on your average fairy-tale merman/mermaid should raise the serious question of how exactly it is possible for such a creature to live under the water. But before one starts to concoct wild and elaborate theories about the respirational capabilities of Disney’s Ariel, perhaps we should acknowledge the most simple and straightforward answer to such a query: magic. Yes, magic. And what this tells us is that mermen and mermaids are the providence of fantasy. Their very existence, from their lack of gills to the fact that they are literally half-a-person and half-a-fish stuck together in the middle, is the product of a complete and unadulterated imagination unconcerned with questions of biological probability. To question how it is that a merman/mermaid is able to breath underwater is to utterly miss the point of such a creature.
So then what of our gill-man? The presence of gills, not to mention the fact that gill-men tend to be imagined not as fish-human chimeras but rather as more fully integrated creatures with scales and fins covering their whole body, tells us that they are not to be understood as a product of imaginative magical whimsy. The gill-man is a creature of science-fiction, not fantasy. The gills are there to help us suspend our disbelief and concede that – just maybe – such a being is possible and could exist in our world alongside us.
This also means that the gill-man is of a much more recent vintage then the merman, being the product of a modern scientifically minded age. More specifically I would argue that the notion of a gill-man could not exist prior to the advent of the science of paleontology during the latter half of the 18th-Century and the beginning of the 19th-Century in Western Europe.
In 1798, French zoologist George Cuvier – remembered today as the “Father of Paleontology” – formulates what will become known as the Principle of the Correlation of Parts, which states that all organs in an animal’s body are deeply interdependent and never mismatched. This is an important argument for the future of paleontology as it explains why it is possible for a paleontologist to extrapolate what an animal may have looked like in life even while working form only a handful of fragmented bones. The Principle of the Correlation of Parts tells us that certain types of bones will only ever belong to certain animals, thereby negating the possibility of creatures with mismatched parts; such as the body of a lion and the head and wings of an eagle or the head of a horse and the body of a fish.  Because of this Cuvier likewise declares that mythological chimeras such as mermen/mermaids are scientifically untenable in principal.
However as science historian Brian Regal has argued, even while men like Cuvier were busy banishing mythological monsters back to the mists from which they came, the rise of Darwinian evolutionary theory helped to give birth to brand new ones. Fantasy fusions of man and beast like the merman might not exist, but scientists like Charles Lyell said there were ‘Missing Links’ out there, creatures which represented the transitional stage between man and animal. Today such transitional fossils are generally understood to be of a human-simian nature but this was not always the case.
The year 1844 saw the publication of what might be described as the first ‘best-selling’ book for a popular audience on the subject of paleontology: Vestiges of the Natural History of Creation (1st Ed. Oct. ‘44) by Robert Chambers. Chambers was not a paleontologist – or any kind of scientist – but rather a journalist with a strong interest in science, specifically geology and evolutionary theory. This is not intended as a slight against Chambers. Science has always needed popularizers who are capable of making complex ideas accessible to the public and paleontology has been fortunate enough to have a quite a few such as John Noble Wilford [The Riddle of the Dinosaur, 1985] and Brian Switek [My Beloved Brontosaurus, 2013]. Chambers, in this regard, was the first great popularizer of paleontology. However Chambers didn’t always get everything right. Case in point: Just a decade prior to the publication of Vestiges, paleontologists had discovered a set of fossilized track ways in Lower Triassic sandstone in Thuringia, Germany. These tracks bared an uncanny semblance to human handprints or possibly primate footprints and the initially thinking among many scientists was that they were just that. As a result the track maker was dubbed Chirotherium (“hand-beast”) and presumed to possibly be amongst our oldest ancestors. Then two years before the publication of Vestiges, British paleontologist Richard Owen – the man who coined the word “Dinosaur” – suggested that the tracks were made not by a primitive primate – which by all accounts had not yet evolved by the time of the Triassic – but rather by a labyrinthodont amphibian.[1] As a result of what can only be assumed to be a serve case of misunderstanding Chambers, apparently thinking about the Chirotherium tracks and the two conflicting interpretations of them, put forth the, in hindsight, admittedly bizarre suggestion in Vestiges that mankind had evolved from an extinct species of giant amphibian.
This then is the paleontological origin of our modern-day gill-man. A missing link between the sea and land. Between fish and mankind. And while such a creature never really existed the underlying assertion is not untenable. After all, as paleontologist Neil Shubin taught us back in 2008 with his highly publicized book on the history of human evolution, we all have an ‘Inner Fish.’ IMAGE: Elisa (Sally Hawkins) meets THE SHAPE OF WATER’s gill-man (Doug Jones) with his gills prominently displayed. _________________________________________
[1] To this day paleontologists have yet to identify the actual track maker, but most now suspect that it was some sort of primitive archosaur.

Tumblr media
Web hosting is a soul of any website. A web hosting can boost your business or can drown your business. So choosing a good and reliable web hosting is a very important for all new bloggers and small website owners.
Today I will share my insights and will provide a brief review of Hostinger web hosting.
I have over 5 year of experience in digital world. works with multiple brands for multiple tasks like web designing, website maintenance, ecommerce and logistics.
So let`s get started
Overview of Hostinger
Hostinger is a web hosting service started in 2004 located in Kaunas, Lithuania known for its low costs and speedy loading time.
Hostinger provides premium web hosting platform to over 29 million users in 178 countries. Every day they get over 15k new sign-ups - that's 1 new client every 5 seconds.
Hostinger gets so much growth in just one decade. They are now one of the top web hosting service provider.
Pros of HostingerThere are many benefits of using hostinger but here we will discuss the top benefits of hostinger web hosting.
1. Faster Loading Time
As Hostinger have very cheap pricing but for website loading time they are one of the best loading time. A website can load in 300-400 ms on average which is a very good number in the industry.
If you go with the high tier plan you may get the speed of 43 - 50 ms
which is super good as compare to any other hosting service provider.
If your target is Europe or European market or you are from Europe and wanted to started a blog own website so Hostinger is the best hosting service provider for you.
Do you Know
73% of mobile internet users say that they’ve encountered a website that was too slow to load. (According to Neil Patel)
So Now you may realize that how loading time can impact your website or a blog.
2. One of the Best Uptime
Hostinger performs very well in this uptime and provide almost 99.95% uptime. But yes for better uptime you have to choose a top tier plan of hostinger.

If you sign up on hostinger but now your mood changed so you can ask for complete refund from hostinger in most of the cases hostinger returns your money very conveniently.
But Yes most of the hosting service provider offers 30 day money back guarantee. So As per my research this is a industry standard.
4. Free Domain
Hostinger provides free domain with all their plans but not with
Single Web Hosting plan.
With a free domain name from your web hosting will help, and It`s a very great deal that Hostinger is supporting  small businesses by giving a domain for free! But with domains provided by hostinger does`nt comes with WHOIS protection for that you have to pay for getting WHOIS protection which protects your online identity.
But the best thing is  – you’ll be get a free domain! By paying $5 annuanly for WHOIS protection is not a very big amount.  So for sure that will be a good deal.

User interface is very straightforward If you are a newbie you can easily create a nice looking website.

You can access to any installed apps, like WordPress, from here as well.
Hostinger creates very easy for you to change your usage, upgrade plan, change domain, and manage settings.
Cons of Hostinger Web HostingNow We will discuss about the downside of Hostinger web hosting.
No hosting service provider is perfect.
Everything have it's pros and cons. So let`s see what the downside hostinger have.
1. No Cpanel
Hostiner doesn't provides cpanel which can be required for those who have habitual with cpanel or love to use it.
Yes I agree that Hostinger's interface is very user friendly and  can work great for newbie but for pro players or already used the cpanel those may not like the Hostinger's user interface.
2. Have to pay for extra domain
Yes one domain is free with Hostinger's all premium shared hosting and cloud hosting plans but for extra domain you have to pay.
Yes with Premium and business hosting plans you will get unlimited free subdomains but you will get only one domain.
This is very usual thing most of the hosting service providers provides only one domain and charge for other one.
This is a very common practice in the hosting industry.
Conclusion
I definitely recommended you the Hostinger web hosting.

How to Choose The Right Digital Strategy Agency
According to a recent survey from the DMEXCO, 70 percent of executives worldwide expect the pandemic to accelerate the pace of digital strategy.  In the past, businesses had more time to plan and prepare.
That’s no longer the case.
Today, businesses are expected to outline, plan, implement the digital strategy in a matter of days or weeks. The market is moving at an accelerated pace; many businesses find they’re unable to keep up. If you can’t keep up, does that mean you’ll be left behind?
Not if you have the right digital strategy agency.
With the right agency, you’ll be able to adapt to rapidly changing circumstances and events. Here are some steps you can take to find and vet the right agency.
Know your goals and desired outcomes
Identifying your digital strategy is the key to long-term growth.
Your digital strategy is about setting goals and objectives. It’s a high-level overview that defines where you are now, outlines where you’d like to go (as an organization), and how you’ll get there. It’s a long(er) term plan that sets a course or destination for you to follow before starting your journey.
You’re going to need a list of:
Goals, KPIs, and objectives: For example, you could focus your attention on generating a specific number of leads, customers, or revenue. You’re running a SaaS business, focus your attention on reducing churn and increasing MRR.
Target audience members: It would be best if you had a clear idea of the specific customer segments you’re looking to target. Your agency should help you with the demographics, psychographics, and ethnographics if you need help clarifying your audience.
Customer hangouts: You’ll want to identify your customer hangouts and the places online where your customers spend their time. This will help you identify potential partners, advertising opportunities, and strategic alliances you can use to grow.
Obstacles and challenges: You’ll want to outline the list of barriers and challenges that may prevent you from achieving the goals and objectives you’ve listed above.
Competitors and key players: You’ll want to identify your competitors and their strengths and weaknesses. This reduces direct competition, making it easier for you to attract customers based on your strengths and the areas you perform best.
Strengths and weaknesses: Point out the areas where you have an advantage in your market or where you’re most vulnerable. Your agency should be able to provide you with options to address each of these, so you’re able to outperform your competitors.
If you have clear answers to these questions, it’s easier for your agency to supply you with the strategy you need to be effective.
3 Characteristics That Make a Great Agency
Great agencies have a few characteristics in common. They’re able to focus their attention on the details that matter to your company and your customers.
1. They ask probing questions
Your agency can’t create the right digital strategy for your company if they don’t have the answers they need. A great agency asks probing questions that may seem simple, dumb, or unimportant at first. You want your agency to ask these questions because these questions help them to develop an in-depth understanding of your business.
Here are a few examples.
What are your current benchmarks?
What are your goals and objectives for your business overall? For each segment?
Which KPIs or metrics are you using to measure performance?
What do customers expect from your business?
Where do your customers spend their time online?
Which marketing channels work best to attract customers?
What tactics should we use to achieve our goals and objectives?
Questions form the basis of your digital strategy; your digital strategy shows you where you are now, tells you where you’re going, and how to get there. Good digital marketing agencies should be asking these questions at the beginning of the engagement process.
2. Ask your agency to give their strategy away
Your agency should be willing to share bits and pieces, showing you what a cohesive strategy could look like for you. This is important because it gives you several data points you can use to evaluate their work. This doesn’t mean that you should expect your agency to work for free; it just means they’re willing to demonstrate their skills. Your agency can share this with you in several ways, over the phone, in your proposal or quote, or a case study. You’re looking for them to share pieces of their proposed digital strategy or examples from previous campaigns they’ve implemented for other clients.
Request performance data from your agency
Use performance data to evaluate their performance
Pay attention to the campaign elements they prioritize consistently
Look for knowledge gaps, holes in their strategy, or weak points
Discuss the details you’ve noticed with them during the interview process
Another option would be to pick one part of your business (e.g., content or advertising) and ask your agency how they’d build a strategy to accommodate one specific goal (i.e., how would you increase sales for my worst performing products using content marketing?).
3. Your agency knows how to implement
Digital strategy is important, but it’s not as important as the ability to execute that strategy. A great strategy isn’t enough. Your agency should have the experience, skill sets, and team you need to implement your digital strategy and produce the results you need to grow.
You’re looking for three things.
An agency that can create a comprehensive digital strategy that works with your existing marketing plan
An agency that knows how to implement your digital strategy successfully
A proven track record showing that they’ve achieved this for other clients in the past
Your agency should provide you all three of these, and they should be able to provide you with evidence showing that they offered other clients these as well.
How to Work with a Digital Strategy Agency
As you’d expect with any other agency, you’ll want to see a list of samples, references, case studies, and reviews showing that they’re legitimate and competent.
Ask your clients to provide you with a list of milestones and campaign deliverables.  You’re looking for a clear timeline that projects how long everything will take to implement, and when they anticipate, you’ll begin seeing results. Your plan should include details on:
Media advertising: This includes commercials on tv or streaming services, as well as app, radio, podcasting, and sponsorship spots. This won’t be relevant for some, but it’s still something your agency should be able to support if you need it.
Public relations: What will your agency do to generate press for your business? What strategies will they use to increase visibility and publicity for your business?
Digital marketing: This encompasses everything from local search, organic search engine optimization, content marketing, advertising,
Direct response: This can include tactics like geofencing or hyperlocal print advertising; it’s a direct response option that’s designed to integrate with your overall strategy. This is especially important for local businesses that operate in a specific market.
Partnerships: These partnerships can include tactics like JV partnerships, strategic alliances, or channel partnerships. These pieces are essential and should be an important part of your digital strategy.
Your agency should be able to show you how they plan on approaching your campaign or project. Ask them to break down the approach that goes into their strategy documents; this document should clarify how they’ll approach your campaign, what you should expect, what their goals are, and more.
You’ll want to provide your agency with the following:
Agreements. It’s common sense, but it’s also something many clients ignore. Take some time to look over their agreement; look for red flags and trouble spots with legal before you sign.
Brand content. Gather all of your content, brochures, flyers, guides, promos, images, logos, style guides, and marketing materials for your agency.
Photos. Give your agency access to all relevant photography — company photos, portraits/photos of key people, office space, location, general and event photos, etc.).
Accolades. Make a list of the social proof your company has — awards, recognition, testimonials, praise, positive reviews, or feedback you’ve received. Give your agency with the assets and resources needed if they ask.
The digital strategy company you choose will provide you with a list of items they need and the options you need to implement their plan successfully.
How to Find the Right Digital Strategy Agency For You
You can use directories like Clutch.co, HubSpot Agency Directory, or Sortlist to find the right digital strategy agency that’s best for you. Here’s a list of some of the best in the industry. You can go through the traditional RFP process or you can simply request a quote.

Beating Competition With SEO in 2020 Your Strategy Guide
Beating competition with SEO in 2020 isn’t getting any easier, check out this SEO strategy Guide to outpace your competition online this year.
A quick overview on what it takes to BEAT Your Competition with SEO:
1. Plan to Win – That’s Where Strategy Comes in
Ultimately, your goal is to rank for the most competitive keywords in your niche.
To do that — you’ve got to have a strategy to win.
2. Become THE Authority
You’ve heard it a million times — Google loves authority sites. When sites like Mashable, Search Engine Journal or Forbes put up a new article, it has SEO strength immediately. Why? Because they have a website with REAL authority.
If you really want to beat your competition with SEO, make more content and better content than any of your competitors!
3. Make High Volume Keywords a Priority from the Start
Keyword volume and keyword difficulty are the two primary reference points with any SEO strategy.
These two values tell you a lot about a keyword, but not everything. 99% of the time an SEO agency will opt for low hanging fruit or less competitive keywords because they appear easier. Yes, often times they are easier to rank for, but sometimes high power keywords don’t take much more effort.
Building content that makes sense for your business and your audience is a guaranteed way to make sure you start building rankings for high volume keywords right from the start.
4. Is Your Site Really Better than Your Competitors?
Is your site truly delivering? Does it look the part? Is it offering something more? What would make your audience choose your site over your competitors?
Really look at the bigger picture ie: web design, user experience, loading time, and of course quality of content.
According to https://www.entrepreneur.com, monitoring all the important SEO changes is extremely important.
When it comes to beating competition with SEO in 2020, focusing on THREE important things from the overview above are really going to help:
Amazing content
A great plan for the distribution of content
Perfect site optimization
If you’re ready to start beating the competition in SEO this year — follow this Guide:
1. Amazing Content is Search Intent Oriented Content
You have one MASSIVE problem with your content and that is; there is already a LOT of competition for it.
No matter what you’re searching on Google, you’re going to see thousands of results any given day. An even bigger problem… all the results you’re seeing on the first page are pretty darn good.
Google digs through more than 8000 results and displays only a few that deserve to be on the first page. This is done by Google within a few seconds.
Search Intent is a big part of how Google ranks this content. For example, Google ranks all kinds of pages like; product pages, long guides, short blog posts, reviews, tools, videos, etc…
To make sure that you’re beating your competition with SEO, you’ll need to understand the type of content that Google is ranking currently and outshine it if you want to compete for that keyword.
One leading New York SEO said that understanding what your competitors are ranking for and the search intent behind those rankings is THE only first step in keyword research for content.
a) Competitor Research:
How can you measure the success of your site?
This can be done by judging the ranking, conversions, revenue, and the traffic that the site is receiving.
The best place to start in order to achieve this — your competitors’ sites.
The right competitor research will help you find keywords that your competitors are ranking for that your website does not. (The “gaps” in your content!)
This analysis can help you in multiple ways to help you find:
Content that you’re missing in your customer journey
Content that your competitors have that you do not
Topics that your competitors are covering for that you’re not
or what I like to refer to as your new search intent oriented content
Keywords that your competitors rank for that you do not are big opportunities for you in terms of content!
Look for keywords or topics that make sense in your customer journey and then prioritize them accordingly. You may want to consider the search volume and the keyword difficulty when selecting your targets. For example, and this is just a first pass using Pixel’s Domain:
b) Deeper Keyword Research Plus Content Optimization:
The process of identifying what your competitors rank for is important, but it’s also just a start. You need to carefully pick and choose based on what is actually relevant to your site and your customer. From that point you need to break down your keywords based on content that will provide multiple ranking levels ie: long tail and shorter tail.
It is important that you filter your keywords by country, industry or even by City so that you may focus on the best keywords for your account.
Most keywords – fall under one of two different categories: short-tail or long-tail.
Short-tail keywords typically consist of either one or two words, whereas long-tail keywords are longer, often consisting of 3 or more words.
While short-tail keywords yield more traffic, they have a few major disadvantages.
For starters, short-tail keywords are highly competitive, meaning you’ll have a difficult time ranking your e-commerce site for them. Furthermore, short-tail keywords are less relevant than their long-tail counterpart, resulting in fewer sales/conversions.
And according to the folks at SEOMoz, long-tail keywords make up over 70% of all online searches.
Targeted SEO keywords will typically be the long-tail search terms that reach out to customers farther along in the buying cycle.
The Keyword Data you Act on should give you structured and actionable information, ie: the data which is ready to use in search marketing campaigns.
For a more detailed walk through on proper keywords research, click here.
If you’re looking for tools will make it easy to find relevant keywords, there are plenty out there:
Moz
AHrefs
Soovle
Google Keyword Planner
Jaaxy
Some of the keyword research tools are free for use, like Soovle or Google Keyword Planner, while others like Jaaxy require payment. The difference is in the set of additional features and automation level provided with each tool.
Aside from doing the proper keyword research, beating your competition in SEO will mean technically formatted content to perform well in search.
If you are interested in ranking and getting traffic from one region, you can narrow the keyword search to a particular area. You can also find keywords with the help of Google search console and your competitors.
c) Use Your Target Keywords and Variations of Them in Your Content:
Yes, you have to use your primary keywords and variations throughout your website content, but more importantly you have to use them in way that benefits the reader.
This means focus on rich, meaningful and awesome content that is better than your competitors.
You’re going to want to break up your content so that it is easy to consume, while aiming for a natural flow. Let’s shop for some outdoor furniture to clarify:
You can immediately see just how important keywords and search intent are especially with these 4 areas:
SEO Title — When someone searches for your content, the search engine will refer to your title/ SEO title to determine the relevancy of your content. You MUST include the keyword here. To make your SEO title more effective, cut it as short as 60 characters (including the keyword). Another best strategy to try is to include the keyword at the beginning of your title. That way, it won’t be cropped off in the SERP.
Headings and Body — As mentioned before, keyword stuffing can lead to penalization of your blog content. Don’t rush the keyword flow and make sure it is distributed throughout the headings and the body. Focus on what piques your audience’s interest and use it to structure your keyword usage.
Meta Descriptions — The SERP displays the bit of description, which is kind of an abstract or summary of your blog content. You can use long-tail keywords here to compel your audience. Make sure it’s natural, includes the keyword, simple, and engaging.
Page URL — The link to your content also comes under the SEO scrutiny. Optimizing your website content means taking into consideration every aspect including your URL. Yes, your keywords should be included in your url – whether long or short.
2. Content Distribution:
Unless your site is already a MOZ or Inc.com, you can’t sit around and wait for your audience to find your content — that just isn’t going to happen. The second hurdle to making your website an authority is figuring out where to distribute your content.
There are plenty of channels out there, for example:
Instagram users publish 46,740 posts per minute.
Twitter users send 456,000 tweets per minute.
Google conducts 3,60,7080 searches per minute.
LinkedIn has more than 100 million users logging in every day.
89% of marketers say awareness is their brands #1 goal
You should, by now, know who your true target audience is and even where they hang out… you want to make sure that your content is reaching them on those channels.
One of the best ways to make sure your content has reach is to find the right influencers on the right channels. BuzzStream recently announced BuzzStream Discovery, a new product that makes finding and researching influencers for your website marketing campaigns a much smoother process. The tool is currently in open beta, and free to use immediately.
SEO link building and content marketing are pretty much the same thing now. Like Neil Patel said, “relationships are the new backlink”  In order to get that all-mighty and powerful back link or to establish authority, you have to have the right content, the right website, in short the right influencer.
For the best results, customize your content and involve consumers at different channels by providing video, podcasts, white papers, downloads, etc. Moreover, link your digital platforms with multiple remarketing campaigns and assess which attribution channel generates more leads or sales.
It’s going to take a bit of practice to master the art of distributing content organically through social channels and online groups, but once you’ve got a feel for it you can slowly test the waters of paid distribution via channels like Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Google and Amazon for even more reach.
3. Website Optimization & Page Speed
We talked a little bit about on page optimization above with Titles and descriptions, but technical optimization goes a bit further and extends across your entire site. It is also a must to optimize the page speed if you wish to retain your customers.
Why is on-site optimization so important?
Because 77% of websites take more than 10 seconds to load on mobile
77% of websites — that’s a LOT of websites that you could eliminate as competition.
To test the speed of your website, you can use any of these services:
Pingdom
gtmetrix
Google Page Speed Test
webpagetest.org
Your hosting can actually affect your SEO and site ranking as well; which is why you will see that many businesses making the switch to better hosting. Sometimes you don’t have a lot of choice like if your using a hosted eCommerce solution like Shopify or BigCommerce. However, premium hosted solutions like those and WP Engine usually include the following performance boosters:
Host the site on fast servers.
Use a CDN.
Use gzip compression.
*The 3 items listed above are all server level (hosting) optimizations.
Beyond hosting there are some key components that are really going to decrease load time and increase user experience:
Optimize the dimensions of images.
Compress images.
Merge elements.
Optimize Images
As mentioned before, images are generally the most information heavy item on a page. Resizing images and making sure the images have a low byte size will increase the speed of the page. BigCommerce utilizes Akamai Image manager to help offload some of this work by automatically optimizing images.
For WordPress, there are a LOT of good optimization plugins. A great combo to boost speed and performance is the following:
Use Cloudflare for your CDN. *Free option should be find, at least start there.
Buy and Install WP Rocket ! Totally worth the $49.
Install Imagify for image compression and automatic resizing.
These 3 items all work really well together, are very easy to install and set up, and for a very low fee significantly improve your desktop and mobile load times.
Minimizing and merging elements
Minimizing css, java script, html, and image resources will all help to reduce load time.
Enable Google AMP
Google AMP is an effort by Google to streamline the page loading speed on any device.
Conclusion
Beating the competition with SEO may not be easy, but the SEO strategy Guide specified above is a winning format to engage your audience, make sure your content is shared, earn in bound links and ultimately beat your competition in search. If you feel like you’ve followed these tips and still can’t get your website to perform, reach out — we’re happy to help.

Yet luckily, things have actually reversed since then. Today we currently have a mailing list of greater than 200,000 individuals! Possibilities are, you read this blog post today because of the emails we send out every week.
The last time we wrote about our subscriber list, simply a plain couple of months earlier, we only had a newsletter of around 100,000 people. Nonetheless, ever since not only have we handled dual our list to 200,000 customers, however we were able to catch 56,000 of those in just one month!
This email list growth was a major component of a huge OptinTurbo product launch we undertook this previous winter season. In the lead-up to the launch of our Instagram Dominance 2.0 training course, we increased down on our objective to rapidly grow our email checklist. In this short article I'm mosting likely to expose to you the specific strategies we made use of and also exactly how we employed them in order to grow our subscriber list.
Fair warning, I splash every one of our tricks in this piece, so distort up, since there is a lot of details to take in here.
What's in an email checklist?
I'm not exaggerating when I claim that if you run an online company, your success will live or pass away by your mailing list.
Currently you may belittle this, as well as I wouldn't condemn you. Innovation has actually come leaps and bounds in the past 20 years. So much to ensure that it seems sort of outrageous that we're still making such a big deal out of something that really feels noticeably old-fashioned.
Back in the early days of email we were even more stressed about choosing the best username than we were about advertising and marketing. In fact I noticeably keep in mind being much more stressed over forwarding a chain email to five other individuals, since OptinTurbo would certainly in some way enhance the chances of my high school crush declaring their enthusiastic love for me, than I was about whatever newsletter located its means into my inbox.
Don't lie. You 'd forward this.
Today we're all about social media advertising and marketing, search engine optimization, and also whatever various other buzzword you can think of. However the fact is, there is nothing else channel that will certainly offer you a better return on investment than email. According to Adobe, for every single $1 invested in e-mail, the typical ROI is $40. That's practically double the return of Search Engine Optimization, the second-highest channel.
Despite the fact that the average advertising email will certainly wind up in the garbage or spam folder, it does not stop e-mail from being the number one channel utilized by marketing experts.
For several years, e-mail has consistently outmatched every other electronic network when OptinTurbo pertains to obtaining sales, leads, as well as consumers. Professionals like Neil Patel and Joe Pulizzi all agree that e-mail is, without a doubt, the most important source any kind of service has.
Unlike purchasing standard advertising and marketing, or relying upon Search Engine Optimization, you have complete control over your subscriber list. No matter just how sophisticated or targeted your social media advertising and marketing method might be, no other network will certainly provide you such straight accessibility to your consumer.
You do not have to stress over Google or Facebook suddenly changing their formulas, because when you have a person's email you have the capability to interact with them one on one. Even if every one of Foundr's search positions and social media presence vanished tomorrow, we would certainly still be able to promote our brand as well as our products to the countless individuals on our subscriber list.

The Future of SEO: It's Not What You’re Expecting
Tumblr media
What do you think the future of SEO is?
And no, I am not talking about what Google will look like 10 years from now… I’m talking about how you’ll be able to rank your site in the future.
You know, that one thing that’ll just skyrocket your rankings.
So, what do you think it is?
I can tell you this… it’s not link building and it’s not on-page SEO.
Sure, those things help, but they don’t skyrocket your rankings. When you build links, it can take months if not a year for them to kick in.
And everyone is doing on-page SEO, so there is nothing unique about it anymore.
So, what do you think it is? Shall I give you a hint?
The accidental SEO hack
I stumbled on the “future” of SEO by accident. Back in March 2016, I was able to take my traffic from 185,980 visitors a month to 195,596 a month.
And it all happened within 30 days.
Here was my traffic in February 2016:
After I ran my accidental marketing experiment, my traffic grew by 9,616 visitors (to 195,596 monthly visitors in March).
I know what you are thinking… there are more days in March than February. And although that’s true, the majority of those additional 9,616 visitors came from search.
So what happened?
As I mentioned above, I accidentally stumbled upon this.
But once I noticed that the side effect of this marketing experiment was that it increased my search traffic, I ran it again.
And this time, on a much larger scale.
Let’s look at my traffic in June 2016:
And now let’s look at July 2016:
And now look at August 2016:
That growth rate is ridiculous! I grew my traffic to 454,382 visitors a month in August from 240,839 in June!
See, during that time period, I wasn’t trying to figure out any cool SEO hacks that would boost my rankings… it just accidentally happened. And it happened because I was running a marketing experiment that wasn’t related to SEO, but funny enough, it impacted SEO (in a major way!).
As you can see from the graphs above, I was able to drastically boost my rankings and search traffic over time.
So, can you guess what it was?
Let me give you a hint…
How Google deals with the Internet cesspool
The EX-CEO of Google, Eric Schmidt, talked about how the Internet is becoming a place where false information is thriving. Essentially, the Internet is becoming a cesspool.
He went on to discuss how brands were becoming more important signals whether or not content can be trusted.
And in his words:
Brands are the solution, not the problem. Brands are how you sort out the cesspool.
In other words, if you want to do well in the long run, you have to build a brand.
When you look at Google you can see clearly that it’s dominated by big brands. From Huffington Post to Wikipedia to CNN… the list goes on and on.
Sure, these sites have a lot of content and backlinks, but they also have huge brands.
When my traffic grew from 185,980 visitors a month in February 2016 to 454,382 visitors in August, it was due to one thing.
My brand kept growing!
Just look at the brand queries for my name over time according to Google Trends:
Over time, my brand has grown in popularity. And as it’s grown, so has my traffic.
In the last 28 days, 40,412 people found my site by Googling variations of my name.
That’s a lot of people!
But what’s cool is, the traffic increases didn’t mainly come from people Googling “Neil Patel.” It mainly came from an increase in rankings for non-branded terms like “online marketing.”
It’s so effective that I generate over a million visits from Google each month now:
To clarify, the way Google looks at brands is that if a website gets a higher amount of brand queries than their competition (the number of people searching for your website name each month), it tells Google that people prefer that one brand over another.
And when Google is determining where to rank a website for all of the terms they are optimizing for, they give more preference to the ones with the most popular brands because those are the sites that people prefer more.
So why does Google put so much emphasis on brands verus other search signals?
Why Google loves brands
Just think about it, it’s the hardest thing to manipulate.
You optimize your on-page code with very little effort these days.
Heck, if you have a WordPress blog you can just use the Yoast SEO plugin and it will do a lot of the work for you.
And when it comes to links, it is harder, but not impossible. You can do email outreach, guest posting, buying links, reciprocal link building, content marketing…
Now, I am not saying you should leverage all of these link building tactics because Google frowns upon many of them and they are short-sided (always think long-term).
You get the point… it’s not that hard to build links these days if you know what you are doing.
But the one thing that is hard to build, no matter how good of a marketer you are, is a brand.
Even if you do massive PR stunts, which causes everyone to know your brand and search for your brand on Google (that’s how they measure it), it won’t help you in the long term.
And trust me, I’ve tried it all.
I even tried to get people to search for my name by having famous people hold up signs with my name as it causes others to wonder “who is Neil Patel” and perform a Google search. I also did that throughout the world in different languages.
I even had Larissa Manoela, a famous Brazilian actress, post this on her Instagram account for her 15+ million (million!!) followers.
The concept behind this marketing stunt was that no matter what industry you are in, everyone follows celebrities (or at least knows about them). And if you can get these celebrities to talk about you, it will create buzz and get new people to learn who you are and potentially become an avid follower. Or at the very least, search for you in Google.
And if you can get a lot of celebrities (or social influencers) to talk about you during the same time, it will create even more buzz and potentially cause newspapers and news websites to talk about you as well.
Now I didn’t have enough money to pay A-list celebrities, so I took Internet celebrities (and a few big names in countries outside of the US) and got them to hold up signs with my name on both Facebook and Instagram.
This created buzz, which then caused more people to Google my name. This, in turn, increased my popularity over time. And the end result was that I increased my rankings for non-branded terms (like “online marketing” and “SEO”).
That’s how I got the big boost in traffic from February 2016 to August 2016.
Although that will help boost your search traffic in the short run, it won’t last long unless you continually build up your brand. Google is looking to see how many people are searching for your brand name on a daily basis… and ideally, they want to see this increase over time.
In other words, if you can’t maintain your brand’s popularity, your search traffic will die off if you use short-term strategies as I did. That’s why you see huge spikes in my brand when you look at the Google Trends image below.
But if your brand continues to grow in popularity, so will your search traffic for all of your non-brand related terms.
It’s hard to see it in the chart above, but before I focused on building my brand, I was only generating 18,304 brand queries per month, versus 40,412 that I am generating now.
So how do you build a brand?
As I mentioned above, you need people searching for your brand name on a consistent basis.
The only way to really do this is by creating value.
Just look at me… I blog on a regular basis, produces educational videos, I have a daily podcast, and I even speak at conferences.
All in all, it has caused my brand to grow over the years.
And this works even better for corporations. If you create an amazing product or service, people will love your brand and keep coming back.
I learned this from my Ubersuggest acquisition. When I bought the brand and merged it into my website, my number one search query become the term “Ubersuggest” and variations of it.
People love the tool… so much so that they access it by Googling the brand name. Sure, the tool has more direct traffic, but people also go to sites using Google.
But to get back to the question of how you can build a brand?
Well, there are no very detailed strategies I can give you as it will range from business to business. I can give you an overview of strategies that have worked for me though, as well as some stats to go along with it:
Blog weekly
I’ve found that if you blog on a regular basis you get more brand queries.
When people are expecting content from you on a regular basis, they’ll Google your brand to come back to your blog and read your latest content.
When I blogged daily, I generated 11% more brand queries than when I blogged once a week. This is why sites like CNN, Huffington Post, Business Insider, and every other news site generates a lot of brand queries… they blog numerous times per day.
Create videos
You don’t have to copy my YouTube strategy, but you should create some sort of videos related to your product, service, or industry. Not because of Google or YouTube, but because of social networks like Facebook and LinkedIn love video content.
So much so that it’s easier to get eyeballs on Facebook and LinkedIn for video content than it is on YouTube.
This will cause more people to see your brand, and build a relationship with you or your company.
What I’ve found is that the more videos I create the more brand queries I get. Just look at the screenshot below:
The screenshot shows how many views my videos received on YouTube over the last 28 days from people searching for my name. It’s 3,806 visitors to be exact.
I know YouTube brand queries doesn’t mean more brand queries on “Google.”
But if you can push out video content on YouTube, Facebook, and LinkedIn, it can’t hurt. It will cause more people to see your brand, and eventually, this should cause more people to Google you.
Now, the reason I am emphasizing LinkedIn and Facebook is that it is easier to generate views on those two social networks for video content. I know they count views differently, but there is a huge difference (and even if there weren’t, it’s extra views).
Just look at my YouTube views for my video on GoogleRank Brain, it has 10,010 views:
And on Facebook it has 31,000 views:
And on LinkedIn it has 29,506 views:
So if YouTube is creating roughly 3,806 brand queries per month when it’s generating fewer views than Facebook and LinkedIn, just imagine what these videos are doing for my brand.
Sadly, Facebook and LinkedIn don’t share stats in the same way as YouTube, but you can come to the conclusion that it probably helps in a similar fashion.
That’s why you need to create videos in order to promote your personal or corporate brand on all social sites (you can use the same content, just upload it to each social network).
Speak at conferences
Every time I speak at conferences I see an influx of brand queries.
It’s harder for me to see these days as I already have a lot of brand queries, but I used to see big swings in my brand queries when I was starting out because of my participation at conferences.
Every time I spoke at a conference with at least 300 attendees (the number of people attending your speech, not the total number of people registered for the event), I would see an increase in brand searches within 24 to 48 hours of my talk.
Each speech would typically bring me 110 to 180 extra brand queries. Although that seems high, you have to keep in mind that reporters also sit in on speeches and are blogging about your speech. This creates more press related to you and your company, which helps with brand queries.
And if the conference you are speaking at uploads the video of your speech to YouTube (or even live streams the event on Facebook) you’ll see even more brand queries.
The larger the audience the better as it creates more potential searches. If you don’t know how to get speaking spots, check this out.
And if you don’t have the time to travel, you can speak at virtual events. They won’t have the same effect, but it is better than nothing.
Build an amazing product or service
I learned this one from my Ubersuggest acquisition… if people love what you are building, your brand queries will really skyrocket. It’s so effective, that it has become my new SEO strategy.
As you can see, the better product you build, the more brand queries you’ll receive.
With Ubersuggest I took a simple approach, just take what my competitors are charging for and give it away for free.
And my brand queries don’t even compare to companies like Dropbox, Apple, Slack, and the loads of other companies that have built amazing products or service.
This strategy is easy to replicate and you’ll see the results fast as long as you take what your competition is charging for and give it away for free.
Just look at the chart above: it shows a huge spike in just 1 month. That was when I released more features for free.
Performance-based press
There are companies like PRserve that charge for performance-based press. If they get you press, you then pay. If not, you don’t pay a dime. It won’t cause tons of brand queries at first, but over time it will help.
If you want to do it yourself, here is an article I wrote breaking down how to get press. It takes longer and it’s harder than hiring someone, but as long as you are willing to put in the time, you will see results.
You can also check out sites like Help a Reporter Out, where journalists ask questions and people go to help them out. When you see a question related to your expertise or industry, you should respond and you can get free press.
Release a book
This works better for personal brands, but publishing a book is a great way to get more brand queries. There are even companies that can streamline the whole process for you.
When I released my book Hustle, I learned three important things:
Don’t co-author a book – I love my co-authors, but I would have received much more of a brand boost if I self-authored the book.
Write a book about your expertise – Hustle was a mainstream book that appealed to most people versus people who wanted to learn about marketing. If I wrote a book about marketing, which is where my expertise is, I believe my brand would have grown faster (even if fewer people purchased the book).
Don’t focus on being a New York Times Bestselling author – I was on the list 3 weeks in a row, and I don’t think it did much for me. Focus on building a following within your space, versus just generating book sales from people who don’t care about your business.
Hopefully, the strategies above will give you a start on building your brand… it just takes time and a lot of elbow grease.
There is no quick solution and what worked for me may not work for you. So get your creative juices flowing and think outside the box.
Conclusion
Branding may seem like a waste of money, but it isn’t.
I used to think companies like Nike were wasting money with all of their TV ads when they could have focused on channels that produced a direct ROI like Google Ads.
But what’s funny is, when you think of shoes you naturally think of “Nike.” You don’t have to Google them, you just know about them because they’ve built a huge brand and are everywhere.
Same goes for Visa. When you think of credit cards, Visa comes to mind because they are accepted worldwide and run tons of ads.
The list keeps going on and on… from McDonald’s to Coca-Cola… the one thing you have to learn from these big companies is that you have to build an amazing brand. Not only will it create more brand searches, but it will help drive more revenue in the long-run.
Most of the companies I mentioned above don’t generate the majority of their sales from Google… they generate their sales from having a huge brand that people trust and love. The brand queries that they get on Google is just an added benefit.
And if that doesn’t convince you, here is an interesting stat. One of my friends works for one of the largest travel companies in the world. They are publicly traded and run television ads as well as spending millions on Google/Facebook ads each month.
When they run TV ads, their Google cost per click (CPC) goes down by roughly 20% because people are seeing their brand everywhere and are more willing to click on it. When they turn off the TV ads, they see the CPCs go back up.
They also own so many travel sites in the space, so they tested this out with a handful of them. Every time they saw similar results, no matter which travel site they tested it on.
I know you probably don’t like the idea of branding because it isn’t something that is instant, and it is hard to manipulate. But that’s why creating a strong brand drastically increase your non-branded rankings.
So, what are you waiting for… are you going to focus on building a brand?

Boosting the power of social media for RPNAO!
Tumblr media
Abstract
The following report will examine social media strategies currently used by the Registered Practical Nurses Association of Ontario (RPNAO), an organization in place to engage with and advocate for RPNs to provide high-quality, evidence-informed, patient-centered care. In doing this, the strengths and weaknesses of the organization will be noted and improvements for further success will be suggested.
Introduction
RPNAO is an organization that represents registered practical nurses in Ontario and provides high-quality patient centered care. They advocate for a sustainable, high-functioning public health care system and advocate for equitable and inclusive access to high-quality care for Ontarians. The purpose of this report is to assess RPNAO’s current social media methods, and find ways to improve their online presence. The authors of this report are Queen’s University students enrolled in the WRIT 240 course: Writing for Social Media and the Web. Research completed on the strengths and weaknesses of RPNAO’s online presence led researchers to conclude that while RPNAO has an online presence, it is very limited and improvements will be suggested to increase viewer engagement and membership numbers to ensure future success and growth.
Methodology
RPNAO primarily posts on their Facebook page, Twitter account, Instagram account, and the company website to connect with their audience to engage them to their main website. Additionally, they occasionally post videos on YouTube.
Results
After careful analysis, our group found that although RPNAO is active on various social media platforms, there is an absence of communication between the company and its audience, as their primary focus is on past events rather than plans for future success. They need to provide a wider variety of posts that engage their members and encourage followers.
Strengths
The website is clear and easy to navigate. There is an events section to let followers know what RPNAO is up to and how to get involved, although a little hard to find. They have a Facebook page that contains plenty of information about the organization. 10,000 people like their Facebook page and they use hashtags on this platform with consistent posts. This large number of followers gives some indication of the demographics of RPNs in Canada (Statista.com)  (NOTE: I did assume that Facebook users were predominently middle aged, but surprisingly, according to www.statista.com, the median age of users is 29-34) . Their mission is listed, as well as past events, multiple methods of contact, an overview of the organization, and the benefits of being a part of the organization. The posts are not necessarily engaging, but rather informative. More questions need to be asked to engage the followers. They do have many photos, which helps draw attention to the page, but could use more variety. On Twitter they have more than 7,000 followers and they follow over 2,300+, it is a very well-used account. The page even has a colour scheme that matches their company's! This attention to detail does help with their branding and makes them more identifiable. It is another strength on this platform.
Weaknesses
RPNAO does not use a unified voice online, as everyone in the company posts - mixing different points of view. This is where some improvement is needed, either by limiting the number of people who post, or by creating guidelines to posting to ensure consistency and a common voice. RPNAO’s Instagram account posts very sporadically instead of consistently scheduled posts. This is a missed opportunity as Instagram is now the second most used social media platform in Canada according to www.Librarianship.ca (Facebook has the highest percentage of daily users (79%), followed by Instagram (61%) and Snapchat (60%)). This is an area where more energy and attention needs to be placed to attract younger followers and potential members.
Additionally, there is no use of hashtags making it difficult for users of the app to discover their page. Another lost opportunity. Hashtags are an integral part of digital marketing. They offer the reader the opportunity to follow threads of interest. RPNAO is not taking advantage of this. The Instagram page also reposts the same photo multiple times and according to an article by Fast Company, reposting too much is annoying and may cause people to unfollow you (Vanderkam 2014). Their Instagram is all but forgotten, with 149 posts, 1,997 followers and they are following just 243. This could be worked on and promoted more to encourage that younger following. They are not tagged in many reputable Instagram posts, so they need to work on those backlinks and consciously encourage link backs, and their Instagram bio could include a bit more information on the organization to provide followers with a greater understanding. The social media calendar suggested below could help a lot with their Instagram effectiveness.
Their Facebook page only has 15 reviews, making it seem like the organization is unpopular. Taking a moment to ask for reviews, or inviting their followers to post a review would help remedy this. They do not use backlinks, stories, or create events, and therefore are not fully utilizing Facebook. Just being conscious of this when posting could be an easy fix. Their posts are reactive after events have occurred and therefore, individuals are unable to participate. Again, simply being proactive would add value. Looking to RPNAO's social media to know what was happening BEFORE it happened would have a number of followers actively looking to see what was coming up.
RPNAO has a YouTube channel, however, they rarely post videos on their site making it difficult for the audience to engage with the organization. With the popularity of YouTube and the effective engagement provided by video messaging, this would be a good area to add more substance and promote more followers. There is a great video online that they created (Feb 2018) that appears to have had some impact (357,513 views), that could maybe be utilized more: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1Ngjbu8S5DA (you can also see this video at the end of this post)
Discussion
A key indicator of an organization’s social media presence is a strong following. From this we can analyze who their target audience is and what strategies they may need to have in place to promote more followers. These results are very important for analyzing the effectiveness of social media for RPNAO and therefore, will determine the most successful platform for their use.
The lack of engagement between RPNAO and its audience however, is an area in need of improvement. Currently there is minimal conversation happening, with RPNAO talking to the viewer more than engaging in a conversation. Forbes magazine stated in an article that the best way to engage your audience, is to know your audience, and because of the lack of discussion, RPNAO is unable to do so (Rampton 2014). Even a simple "what do YOU think?" at the end of a post invites the reader to engage. The audience does not feel the need to be involved on the platforms because RPNAO does not encourage an opportunity for interaction through questions, polls, or responding to other organization’s posts. They need to start conversing.
Recommendations
The audience here is actually the Registered Practical Nurses in Ontario. This group is approximately 55,000 strong (CNO.org statistics) at present. This association is membership driven, so they need to remain in contact with existing and potential members. To do this effectively, they need to improve their social media outreach and impact. We have identified some of their strengths and weaknesses and there is much room for improvement. One of their notable strengths is their Twitter volume. They do have an active engagement and over 7,000 followers, but need to unify their voice and be more proactive vs. reactive in their posting. They need to provide more quality and information rather than quantity.
Tumblr media
Another tool that RPNAO should be using would be Social Mention (http://socialmention.com/search?q=rpnao&t=all&btnG=Search&start=15). Social Mention monitors 80+ social media properties directly including: Twitter, Facebook, FriendFeed, YouTube, Digg, Google etc.. This website really gives you a good indicator of what you look like to others on the web. A quick glance tells us that RPNAO does not necessarily come across as positive when posting (39%) but rather neutral (52%), so there is room for improvement there.
RPNAO would benefit from:
· The inclusion of backlinks in social media posts to create a stronger online presence and create engaging dialogue with similar organizations.
· Starting a social media calendar. Plan posts in advance. There are days that are relevant to nurses (i.e. World Autism Day) that could warrant a posting and could be pre-planned so that there is a steady presentation of information. Consistency will build a better following.
· Speaking to one person. Identify your target audience, create a profile of the RPN that you would like to reach (and possibly this is a younger RPN than your present demographic) and post a photo of her/him with a short bio on everyone's desk who will be contributing online. This will give you a more unified voice and consistent messaging.
· Increasing their Instagram presence. This appears to be somewhat neglected at present and just has a copy of postings on other platforms. This would be a good space to work on RPN profiles and introduce newer nurses to experienced nurses as a way of communicating and personalizing that platform a little more.
Neil Patel has some great strategies to help companies start Using Instagram to create an engaging community of loyal brand consumers (Patel 2019) His first five tips include:
Set up your brand's Instagram. Include a link.
Post content that attracts followers. No hard selling.
Grow your Instagram audience. Research and include relevant hashtags.
Encourage engagement to form relationships.
Measure your growth.
Conclusion
Through the implementation of new social media strategies, RPNAO can improve their online presence and engagement with their audience, thus increasing membership. The increase in public conversation and unification of an online voice will increase the success of RPNAO.
