"are you crazy?" face displayed an incredulous look, dark brows softly knitting because there was only one answer to if she'll come see him, "of course i'll come see you, i told you i'll do whatever it takes. even if it means i have to get on a plane. i hate planes, i'm terrified of planes. they're my worst fear. but of course i'm getting on that horrible contraption to come see you." if it means suffering a panic attack that'll certainly come the second she's on it for the first time... she'll get through it just for him. "can we?" demeanor lifted at the idea of camping, the idea of finally getting to do something normal and fun with him, "when you come back? maybe you'll be back in time at the end of the summer and we can still make it happen before it's over. and percy, my one year old son with golden fur," elena softly laughed, "you can meet him again and he could come too, if that's okay." suggesting with a growing excitement in her chest, thinking looking forward to things they can do when he returns can help give things a positive outlook during the time he's gone.

"we're never leaving weird analogies in the past," small hands gently cupped his face, thumbs tapping the corners of his mouth as she laughed at his groan. then features blissfully soften with the flutter of long lashes feathering against olive cheeks when her eyes shut at the brief kiss he steals from her lips. "you really didn't? what about–– that girl you were with..." cheeks threatened to turn rosy at mentioning her, heat rising up her back as doe hues dropped on the floor when she took a step back standing on his bed. "and it's only a few minutes in the shower," she copied his words, making a point, warm gaze flickering back up on his paler one, "but i'll miss you in there." elena pouted as hands clutched the warm shirt, lips turned downwards in a big frown and eyes resembled percy's, her adorable golden retriever's big sweet brown hues. "will you come and talk to me in there? –please?" she was begging like her pup, too. "do you? mr. the one always wearing it to bed." elena sassed, poking his bare chest, right in the center between his pecs as amused smile washes over her features.

               ‘but  you  could,’    teetered  on  the  edge  of  his  tongue,  threatening  to  spill  over  and  muddle  this  interaction  even  further.  admitting  that  she  did  have  the  power  to  stop  him  from  taking  the  career  opportunity  of  a  lifetime  felt  monumental.  loving  elena  was  something  that  had  simply  happened  to  marcus,  subconscious  and  completely  involuntary.  but,  making  a  willing  sacrifice  for  her….  well,  that  was  something  entirely  different.  “it’ll  probably  go  by  quicker  than  we  think,”  an  empty  comfort  he  didn’t  believe,  but  he’d  do  anything  to  get  that  smile  to  meet  her  eyes.  “and  you’ll  come  see  me,  won’t  you?”  the  horrible  proposition  makes  him  laugh,  even  if  he  feels  a  grimace.  “i’d  never  let  you  live  like  that,”  smile  tugging  even  wider  when  she  leans  into  his  touch  as  he  begins  his  teasing,  “but  we  could  go  camping  if  you  ever  get  the  impulse.”

               he  can  all  but  see  the  question  rolling  around  the  confines  of  her  mind.  marcus  knew,  without  a  doubt,  she  wanted  to  dive  into  his  hesitation  and  obvious  avoidance.  but  he  was  grateful  that,  for  whatever  reason,  she  didn't  let  air  her  curiosity.  maybe  they  could  get  into  the  nitty  gritty  of  his  existentialism  later,  if  she  really  wanted  to,  but  for  now,  all  that  he  wanted  was  to  make  up  for  lost  time.  “i  try to not  forget  anything  you  tell  me,”  marcus  says  honestly,  willing  to  let  the  way  she  was  looking  up  at  him  right  now  pull  him  under.

               “and  here  i  thought  we  left  that  in  the  past,”  he  groans,  still  wearing  a  crooked  grin  that  betrayed  any  annoyance  he  worked  to  exude.  truthfully,  his  relief  overshadowed  any  other  emotion  that  he  could’ve  mustered.  he  had  wanted  her  back  here  between  his  arms  for  so  long  that  her  teasing  didn’t  matter.  nothing  mattered  more  than  this.  the  waxy  red  pigment  finds  it’s  way  across  his  jaw,  to  his  neck.  he  knows  he’s  covered,  marked,  yet  can’t  bring  himself  to  care,  even  feeling  a  bit  of  pride  when  his  head  ducks  to  catch  her  lips  in  a  quick,  fleeting  kiss.  “you’re  ridiculous  if  you  actually  thought  that  i  wanted  anyone  else,”  he  admits,  hand  settling  in  the  crook  of  her  neck. 

               her  comment  is  teasing  in  nature,  but  he  still  felt  the  cut  it  left.  he  didn’t  want  to  leave,  not  now,  and  marcus  was  sure  that  elena  had  to  know  that  was  the  truth.  “it’s  only  a  few  months,”  he’s  quick  to  remind.  regardless  of  what  awaited  them  in  a  matter  of  days,  this  song  and  dance  they  now  swayed  along  to  was  still  a  comfort  he  clung  to.  the  way  she  looked  at  him,  the  feeling  of  her  arms  around  his  neck,  the  vibration  of  her  laugh,  it  was  all  comparable  to  fresh  air  to  a  man  suffocating.  and  marcus  took  it  in,  all  of  it,  greedily,  knowing  how  difficult  it  was  to  subsist  without  her.  he  watches  as  she  throws  her  head  back  in  laughter,  ignoring  the  dull  ache  in  his  cheeks  from  the  smile  he  couldn’t  wipe  off.  how  ridiculous  she  could  make  him  was  a  true  marvel,  once  again  catching  a  glimpse  of  himself  smattered  in  red  lipstick  from  his  lips  to  near  his  clavicle.  his  curiosity  is  piqued  when  she  asks  for  the  shirt  off  of  his  back,  snubbing  the  perfectly  fine  and  folded  ones  in  his  drawer,  but  marcus  makes  no  arguments  as  he  pulls  it  off  in  one  quick  motion.  he  pushes  the  bundled  fabric  in  the  space  between  them,  his  newly  exposed  skin  immediately  prickling  from  the  cool  air.  “you  have  an  emotional  attachment  to  this  shirt  that  i  don’t  know  about?”

miss A (미쓰에이) - Good-bye Baby

This week’s recommendation is Good-bye Baby by miss A!

Good-bye Baby is a song by miss A, released July 18th 2011. It is the lead single on their debut studio album A Class, released the same day, and was produced by Park Jinyoung (or as he’s credited on the album, J.Y. Park “TheAsiansoul”). 

The producer behind this song uploaded a video of himself recording the song with Manny Marroquin, a Grammy-winning mixing engineer who has worked alongside powerhouses like Whitney Houston, Alicia Keys, Kanye West and Bruno Mars. 

Good-bye Baby is a dance-pop, pop song which details how a girl has confidently dumped her ‘playboy’ boyfriend who likes to cheat. The lyrics in the first verse reference one of the members, reading: “I figured it out when you called me Suzy by accident, when my name isn’t Suzy. I don’t know why I tried so hard to trust you (I knew what kind of guy you were). Don’t cry in vain. (I took out all of your things). The acting stops now.” and this garnered a lot of attention for their impactful statement, despite their playful nature. 

The song is described as having a strong hip-hop rhythm, with acoustic shuffle elements. 

This song peaked at number 1 on the Gaon Digital Chart in 2011. 

A Class was miss A’s debut studio album, released July 18th 2011. It featured six singles, one being the award winning Bad Girl, Good Girl. 

There’s quite a bit of background this album, so bear with me for a second. July 1 2010, miss A released a four-song EP Bad But Good, which included Love Again (다시 사랑) and Bad Girl Good Girl, which were their first and second singles, released June 30th and July 1st respectively. These two tracks, plus their album track Break It were later included on A Class. 

Their second four-song EP Step Up was released 27th September 2010 and its song Breathe was used as the promotional single. All other tracks were later included on A Class. 

The lead single for A Class was Good-bye Baby, but their next single from this album Love Alone was specially created for Kim Yuna’s Ice Show; she is South Korea’s figure skating champion. The group performed the song as special guests on her show as Yuna and other figure skaters danced to the song. This song was also their first song sung in English, and was released May 2011.

A Class reached number 9 on the Gaon Weekly Album Chart, but finished at number 5 for the month, and 44 for the year of 2011. Their other single, Love Alone, reached number 6 on Gaon’s Digital Charts.

miss A was a South Korean-Chinese girl group under JYP Entertainment. They debuted in 2010 with their song Bad Girl Good Girl as a four member group, made up of Fei, Jia, Min and Suzy. Their debut song reached number 1 on the Gaon Digital Charts, making them the first to ever have a debut song reach the top of the chart. It also went on to become the best-performing single of 2010. Originally, miss A consisted of five trainees formed in 2010. Three of them appeared on Chinese variety shows performing dance routines and songs as “The Chinese Wonder Girls”, with Woo Hyerim as a member, who eventually was placed in Wonder Girls soon before miss A’s debut in order to replace Sunmi (ex-member of Wonder Girls). 

March 2010, Suzy Bae (15 at the time) joined the group, which then became a trio known as miss A. They signed with the Samsung Electronics in China and released a song used for the commercial called Love Again for the Samsung Beat Fetsival. Lee Min Young, a solo artist and a long time trainee in America, made a cameo appearance in the MV. She later joined the group for their South Korean debut in April 2010.

A Class (2011) produced two more number 1 songs, and their follow-up EPs Touch and Independent Women Part III (both released 2012) proved more success. Their second studio album Hush (2013) was well-received by critics and its title track has been covered numerous times by girl groups and on survival shows. 

After this, there was a year long hiatus, until they released their 3rd EP Colors (2015), which was their last release before disbandment. 

In 2017, Billboard ranked miss A at number 10 on their “Top 10 K-pop Girl Groups of the Decade” list. 

Jia left the group in May 2016, where management said that the group was working on individual activities and focusing on their solo careers. In November 2017, Min left the group after her contract expired with the company. Cue December 2017, where JYP officially announced that the group had disbanded.

Currently only Suzy and Fei remain in the company from miss A. 

Their fandom name was Say A, but they never had an official fandom colour.

obviously  ,  this  garnered  a  lot  of  attention  in  that  community  ,  and  when  she  started  her  doctoral  program  ,  there  was  quite  a  lot  of  pressure  being  put  on  her  ,  and  for  the  first  time  ,  she  was  painfully  aware  of  it  .  her  parents  still  supported  her  and  cherished  her  ,  yes  ,  but  she  was  under  the  watchful  guise  of  big  names  in  astro - technology  .  it  was  something  she’d  never  dealt  with  before  ,  and  when  she’d  show  off  her  research  and  they  weren’t  impressed  ,  she  completely  cracked  under  pressure  .  that  had  never  happened  to  her  before  ,  really  ???  she  was  always  good  at  everything  she  did  ---  it  was  supposed  to  be  a  breeze  .

time  after  time  ,  her  research  got  denied  ,  or  she  got  a  less  than  excited  response  ,  and  she  felt  herself  growing  more  and  more  ansty  and  anxious  that  she’d  spent  so  much  time  pursuing  this  and  it  would  all  fizzle  out  into  nothing  .  

she  became  so  desperate  for  something  to  stick  that  her  parents  paid  a  peer  to  drop  out  so  imogen  could  use  their  research  for  her  dissertation .  their  research  wasn’t  completely  done  or  anything  ,  and  gen  definitely  still  went  on  to  work  more  on  it  ...  and  it  led  her  ,  eventually  ,  to  the  discovery  of  an  exoplanet  that  orbited  a  solar - type  star  .  obviously  ,  she  defended  her  dissertation  and  got  it  approved  ,  and  ended  up  winning  the  nobel  prize  in  physics  for  this  discovery  just  last  year  ,  in  2019  .

this  ,  of  course  ,  opened  many  doors  for  her  ,  and  she  ended  up  being  offered  the  position  of  coo  at  spacex  ,  and  now  works  closely  with  elon  musk  on  developing  new  space  technologies  . 

however  ,  none  of  this  would’ve  happened  if  she  hadn’t  stolen  the  beginnings  of  someone  else’s  dissertation  research  ...  alexa  ,  play  dirty  little  secret

imogen  tends  to  be  more  logical  than  emotional  ,  which  can  cause  a  strain  on  her  relationships  more  often  than  not  .  she’s  not  very  considerate  of  other  people’s  feelings  .  she  doesn’t  mean  to  be  that  way  ,  but  it’s  definitely  how  she  comes  across  most  of  the  time  

she’s  very  cutthroat  ;  obviously  willing  to  do  anything  to  succeed  .  in  this  way  ,  i  can  see  her  being  rather  intimidating  .  she’s  friendly  ,  don’t  get  me  wrong  ,  but  she’s  cunningly  intelligent  ,  and  very  quick  to  shut  down  any  sort  of  emotional  response  to  something  in  favor  of  figuring  it  out  once  and  for  all

"Shepard. I don't know whether to believe the rumors or not. For nearly a year they've said that you're alive. Hell, Alenko came back a while ago from Horizon, shell shocked saying that Anderson was right. Don't even know how I'm supposed to feel about that."

"Feels like everything fell apart when you died. I lost my best friend, I lost the first ship I'd ever served on. I lost basically all of my contacts. The only person I'm still even in sort of contact with was Joker, but that was nearly...two years ago? I see Alenko whenever he's on the Citadel, but he's clammed up. Won't say a word about you, about the Normandy, about anyone but his current assignments in the Terminus Systems. I think he's in denial."

[dry chuckling. sighs.]

"We're all in denial, by the way. I wanted to go after Liara, find what she knew. Apparently she set up shop on Illium, but by the time I got there, she was gone. No one would tell me where she was. Alenko said Garrus was with you, so that's some solace if you're still out there. You know he'd follow you to hell and back after what you did with Saleon for him."

"I still don't believe you're alive. I saw the reports. Saw the whole debacle over what attacked the Normandy. Good old Council, still denying everything. There's no way that was the Geth. They're only claiming that it was because they don't want to start a mass panic over what they don't know and can't fathom in their peanut sized brains. I'm going to biotically smack Sparatus into next week if he claims Reapers don't exist again."

[muffled conversation]

"The real reason I'm making this video is because the Initiative is taking off in a bit. I know, it moved fast since my dad got shut down over SAM. We're set to take off in the next two weeks, so everyone's cleaning up shop. Farran has had his apartment cleaned out since we got clearance for the arks. He's always been on board to head to Andromeda."

"I didn't want to leave at first. I helped the best I could before I headed off to Therum with Liara, but I thought that's what was here for me. The Milky Way is my home. Then the Geth attacked and I saw you again. Then I decided I might just be a career soldier like my dad always wanted. I'm trained as an adept, you know. I was happy on the Normandy. Helping Liara with research, going out to uncharted worlds with you. I had my best friend and new friends all around me. It was far from perfect, especially with Hackett throwing mission after mission at us, and then Virmire..."

[rustling of datapads. gets up, paces back and forth. sound is viable, but accompanied by the sound of socked feet on linoleum.]

"Then you died. Then I didn't have a purpose anymore, sitting in that escape pod for nearly a day, acting like a child. Rocking back and forth, crying to the point I couldn't even really see or breathe. I didn't want anyone to touch me, hell I went out on my own to search for you. I got lost. Tali found me, throwing pieces of the Normandy around like a raving idiot searching for anything that would point me back to you."

"After that, I threw myself back into helping my dad. He was disgraced for SAM -- I'm sure you know that bit by now. Everywhere on the Citadel reminded me of you. Everywhere in the Milky Way reminded me of you. I had to get out of here, and acting like the rest of the galaxy didn't exist sounded like it would be the best course of action. Somewhere completely new, somewhere I could wipe the slate clean. Start over. Be happy again."

[laughs. sigh of disappointment. looks over to clock.]

"Joker came to me in...late 2183, I want to say? Said Cerberus -- yeah Cerberus of all people, those guys mixed up with the marines? -- had you. Said they were rebuilding you and he had proof. I denied him, didn't believe him. I knew he'd taken your death the hardest, that he blamed himself for it. I said things I shouldn't have. I know I can't justify it that 'I was in a bad place'. I hurt him, I know I did. Then he was just...gone. Completely off the grid. Anderson couldn't track him down. Your sister disappeared after that as well."

"I felt so alone. Farran tried to comfort me. Didn't work. The Initiative was tangible again, and I didn't see dad for a while. I had never been so ready to leave before. Now looking around, the empty room, the severed ties with anyone else in the Alliance? I ask myself if I'm doing the right thing or not. Whether leaving it all behind is the right decision."

[more muffled conversation. swiping of another tab before returning to chair and sitting down.]

"Look. If you are with Cerberus, I know you're doing it for a reason. Maybe you're a mole or something. Tearing them apart from the inside out. If you're alive, shit if you're even a little alive, please send me something. Confirm it, please. So I can reconsider all of this if I have to. I'd do anything to fight by your side again. Stop me before I make the most irreversible mistake in my life, Shepard. Kodelyn, please. Andromeda is full of opportunities, but you were everything to me. Alenko can mope all he wants, yes I knew about that, but you were my friend first, my sister first. You gave me so much, and now I can't pay you back."

"We can talk about Cerberus if that's what you want. We can talk about whatever's going on. Anything you want. I won't judge."

"Please. Come home, Shepard. I need you."

"Earth was just attacked. The Reapers are here. Sparatus is going to eat whatever a hat is in Turian places for denying their existence all these years."

"The suicide mission against the Collectors was a success. They're no more. But the Reapers...shit I just watched them take out Vancouver. We're getting reports of other attacks all over the planet, more in the Sol system by the hour."

"Shit shit shit shit. If it's any solace, my parents are alright. My brother is as well. Lali's onboard with me. As far as Dr. T'Soni and Lieutenant Johansson are concerned, we don't know. Last we heard they were on Mars, fighting their way to the archives for anything to fight the Reapers with. Staff Commander Petrakis has been off the grid for a couple months now, not a word out of her since the collector base assault. Major Alenko doesn't know where she is, but we know we need to get in contact with her, and in turn Garrus and the others if we can. We need every force we can get."

[clattering noise sounds. more cursing.]

"Fia. I'm so sorry. I heard AI took off a few months back while I was under house arrest. I know you're probably gone, and I wish I'd seen it before. My omni-tool code changed back late 2185, security risk so close to the base assault. Lawson was worried after Horizon that brass would come after me. I'm so damn sorry."

[incoming call on another line.]

"Please. If you get this, be careful. I don't know if the Reapers will come after the Initiative. Be ready for anything. They will not stop at Earth, I know that much. Tell your father, Garson, anyone to be ready for whatever comes your way in Andromeda. I've always loved you, sister, best friend. You know that. I’ll always be with you, wherever you are."

[incoming call.]

"Be careful, tabula rasa. There's another galaxy out there, and if you all are the last humans out there after all this goes down, make us proud."

"So the Reapers were real then," Cora says, turning to the Pathfinder, deep in thought, "They were in such a hurry to deploy us because whoever funded the Initiative--"

"They knew the Reapers were coming. We were humanity's Noah's Ark," Fiametta Myung responds, shutting off the blue and white display in her father's old quarters. Stepping back, she runs a hand through her brown and purple hair, "And now? We don't even know if Earth survived all of that. And Shepard..."

"It's been six hundred years. I get the picture," Cora muses, "You said Dr. T'Soni travelled with her early on though? You think you might be able to get a message out to her?"

"If I could, I think we would've got one first from either her or Shepard. Either with the destruction of the galaxy or one of victory," Frustrated, Fiametta sits down on the edge of the bed, "Cora, forget that T'Soni might still be alive. Do you think there's a chance the Reapers could come for us?"

"All the way in Andromeda?" The commando shifts her posture, crossing her arms and leaning against the desk, "If you want my opinion, it's a flat I don't know. You worked with her closer than I did. Any Reaper information I heard about was secondhand accounts from you."

"Great. I'm flying blind again. Tann is going to have my ass if we know about this and they show up in a couple months to finish the job," Fiametta drags a hand down her face, flopping back on the bed unceremoniously, "I'm the worst pathfinder to ever pathfind. First my dad dies, then every planet in uninhabitable, can barely reunite all the races, can't find the Quarian ark, and to top it off, nearly lost the whole Hyperion taking Meridian."

"Well I was going to say that if they did...well we could get a headstart on them? Start bunkering down before they find us, so they don't catch us off guard like they did the Milky Way," She says, gesturing to the computer. That made sense. They probably hit Earth so hard because they hadn't been ready. Fiametta scoffs inwardly, damn War Council never took Shepard's word for anything and now they'd paid for it dearly. Her tone is still concerned, but softens, "And don't say that. First, who knows if they managed to take down the Reapers anyway? Second, we don't know jack about what's going down in the Milky Way right now. Anything could've happened, and we could be worrying for nothing. You found Meridian, we took Meridian and took down the Archon. Hell you made every viable world habitable for generations to come. What's a couple more to add to the list of achievements?"

"Cora, the Archon was one dude. The Kett retreated, probably to gather more forces. These Reapers? They've been in this cycle for fifty thousand years, probably since the beginning of time. The Protheans weren't the first to be wiped out, and they might not be the last either," Fiametta curses under her breath, "We aren't prepared for war. We've barely got enough forces to fight off the remaining Kett, much less another wave of space cthulus. We're explorers, not an army."

"It took us six hundred years to get out here. Maybe it'll take the Reapers a whole lot less, but we've still got time if they do. I'll requisition Tann for more forces on the edge of Heleus in a few years time if you're still really worried. We just need to establish a foothold first and then we can have patrols out."

"Now you're making me sound crazy," she notes, "Forget the Reapers for right now. Just stick a pin in it, Cora. I'm rambling, you don't have to pay attention to me."

"If that's what you want," Cora chides, striding over to the bed, "Hey. You've done a damn good job at colonizing Heleus. If anyone can take the Reapers, it's you."

"It's Shepard, actually. She was the one with a Prothean cipher in her head," While Cora sputters at the news, Fiametta chuckles, "Early 2183. Feros. Thorian. Some asari. I wasn't there for it. Just... stressed about finding this all out now."

"She was really important to you, huh?" Cora questions, gears still turning in her head, "She'd be proud of you. Just like your father would be."

"Hope so," Fiametta answers, sitting up to face her second in command. She doesn't know if it's true, but if it makes Cora feel better about their situation, she can at least pretend to take the praise in stride. Her heart hurts, Shepard had always been there to guide her through the worst of it. And now? She was all alone, pathfinding without a path to follow, "C'mon, let's get out of here before Jaal tears the Hyperion apart looking for me."

Cora nods approvingly, a smile crossing her features. As the other woman leaves, Fiametta stands again. She pulls up the UI with a few swipes, scrolling back to the message. She watches it again. Shepard hadn't looked all that well in those final moments. Bloodied and bruised, torn BDUs. Arrested? For what? Working with Cerberus? Hell if this so-called suicide mission was so successful, they should've given her a medal like they did after the Skyllian Blitz. Johansson -- that was Annika. Petrakis was Brione. Vega, she hadn't heard of a Vega before. Alenko...that meant Kaidan had been promoted after she left.

She misses them. Six hundred years separates her from the people that knew her best. 

Six hundred years separates her and Shepard. Her best friend. Her everything at one point. History would remember them for their sacrifices. They’d better remember her sacrifices specifically. Maybe she should try to get in contact with Dr. T'Soni. If Shepard's message made it to them in-transit, maybe with the Nexus' connections she could get her own out to the Milky Way. Find one of Shepard's descendants, or one of the species that hadn't been entirely destroyed if Liara's research had been truthful when they had been working together.

Her hand hovers over the UI, considering. Her old life had ended. She hadn't woken up a tabula rasa, but instead had changed Heleus for the better. She hopes.

Staying in the past wouldn't get her anywhere.

Thought I’d make a the Mummy/Returns fic recs posts for @counterwiddershins (EDIT: whom I can tag now!) because they asked for recs. So here are my favourite (complete) Mummy stories under the cut in alphabetical order, title-summary-why it’s on my list style. A few are Old, because I discovered this fandom in 2003 and there’s some great oldies. Hope you - and anyone else looking for great fics - enjoy them!

As Sweet as This / Coming Clean, by robot-iconography

Summary:  Evelyn reflects on the changes Ahm Shere has wrought upon her brother, husband, and son. /  Rick takes his life in his hands as he faces his greatest challenge ever: fatherhood.

Comments: I put these two in the same bag because they’re basically a diptych. They’re like two sides of the same coin. On one hand, you have a lovely story in Evy’s voice, on the other, a hilarious one in Rick’s. Both stories are sweet and more touching than they sound.

Circumstantial Evidence, by robot-iconography

Summary: “She could be damnably silly at times; she dressed like a spinster and carried herself like bloody royalty; but she was my baby sister, the only one I’d ever have. I’d been through hell to get her back, and now I was going to lose her anyway.”

Comments: Probably my favourite Mummy story ever. I love it so much I translated it into French in 2004, and even more so now I’ve read PG Wodehouse. Basically, there is canoodling, funny misunderstandings, and the closing scene is adorable (and made me discover Ella Fitzgerald’s “Always”, which is perfect as Ella Fitzgerald always is). Peak Carnahan siblings shenanigans and a great Rick.

Deeper Within Darkness, by Laurie M

Summary: It is a truth universally acknowledged that wherever Rick O'Connell and Evelyn Carnahan are, trouble is not far away. What begins as an innocent night out soon leads to danger that threatens all of Egypt.

Comments: a great follow-up on the 1st film, with still-developing relationships, a mysterious medallion, and ghostly (sort of) crocodiles. The main four are very well written. 3rd person limited POVs alternate with 1st person POVs in a very natural way, allowing us glimpses into the characters’ heads. Sometimes a little bit sombre, but a lovely story.

A Favour for a Friend, by queueingtrilobite [orphan account]

Summary: Roped into doing a favour for a friend, Jonathan finds himself in charge of an antiques shop in Cairo. This is honestly the very last favour he's going to do for anyone. Ever.

If you ship Ardeth and Jonathan, there’s plenty of fun and/or feelsy stories for you! Like this fun little romp, which features a hilarious style, a Jonathan who is equally good at thinking on his toes as he is as making disasters happen (being a bit of a disaster himself).

Finding Ma’at, by exchequered [orphan account]

Summary: “Hamunaptra Cruises.” Ardeth’s tone was thoughtful. “Do you not fear a curse upon your enterprise, for naming it thus?”

Another Ardeth/Jonathan fic - and boy, this one is *chef’s kiss* I mean, the only three tags are Tourism, Pining, and denial is a river in Egypt :D

Hereafter, by Marxbros

Summary: After TMR. Imhotep has raised Ancksunamun and conquered the earth. Rick, Evy, Ardeth, Jonathan, and some new characters must find each other to defeat Imhotep once more.

Comments: ooh, this one’s a monster to tackle (134k words), and it gets pretty epic - and is worth every second of reading. The OCs are great, necessary, and everyone gets their chance to shine.

Never Spellbound by a Starry Sky, by robot-iconography

Summary: Strange goings-on mar Rick and Evelyn's wedding preparations. Can they and Jonathan solve the mystery?

Comments: another follow-up on TM, as Evy and Rick navigate their relationship and how much they should wait before any sort of hanky-panky. Life interferes in the form of a mysterious object (though NOT the obvious one) and the three are thrust into adventure again. There are battles with the mosquito netting, someone getting a few stitches on their arse (again, not the obvious choice), and all the chapter titles come from dialogue from Elizabeth Peters’ Crocodile on the Sandbank. It’s often hilarious and the dialogue is to die for.

The Mummy: Curse of the Seven Scorpions, by Jac Danvers

Summary: Libby O’Connell hasn’t heard from her brother in years. The word ‘mummy’ meant nothing to her. But when a tiny gold scorpion is revealed to have much greater value, she is thrust back into her family’s life, and the life of a man she once hated.

Comments: back in the day, the “Rick’s sister tags along and falls in love with [usually Ardeth]” trope was a staple of Mummy fanfic, and one I didn’t have much interest in. This little story, mostly set after TMR, is a fun romp; Libby is a good character, well handled, and the little developing romance with Jonathan is fun to watch.

Sidekick, by madsthenerdy girl (on FFnet here)

Summary: Jonathan honestly tries to be a big brother. No, really.

Comments: Fantastic portrait of Jonathan through the years, warts and all, and his relationship with Evy (and later Alex). It’s heartfelt, often funny, and honest (sometimes painfully).

Take That, Bembridge Scholars!, by seren-ccd

Summary: The world has been saved and there's really only one thing left to do. Evy writes a strongly worded letter to the Bembridge Scholars. Oh, she gets married, too. 

It’s a great look at Evelyn, Rick and Jonathan in a few scenes, from the night after Hamunaptra to the start of Rick’s and Evy’s life as a married couple, interspersed by extracts from the aforementioned strongly-worded letter (and it’s great).

The Tenth Plague, by Khedi (on FFnet here)

Summary: Did anyone while watching The Mummy wonder about what would have happened if the tenth of the Biblical plagues had come to pass?

Not a death fic (well, not quite) but a great little look at (again, I’m nothing if not predictable) the Carnahan siblings just after they get back to Cairo after The Mummy. It’s a punch in the feels and a hug. I love it.

Travelers by Night, by 20thcenturyvole

Summary: Very quickly, Jonathan weighed the odds. On one hand, potential death, whether by armed bandits, a mummy’s curse, or people who looked like bandits and who were very angry about someone unleashing a mummy’s curse. On the other hand, potential riches, home ground, and topics of conversation other than what happened at school fifteen years ago and who got it in the neck where.

A great look at Jonathan post-first film and a great take on Ardeth, too. Can be shippy if you tilt your head and squint, or not. Your call.

We Three Together series, by Tinydooms

Basically a series that can act as a novelisation for The Mummy, mostly “missing scenes” and character studies. A joy to read if you like Evy, Rick, and Jonathan.

The Witches’ Library, by jones2000 (on FFnet here)

Summary: He would like to state emphatically for the record that none of this was his fault, thank you very much. It was all entirely coincidental. He should know by now that these things have a tendency to snowball. Or, Jonathan doesn't need the O’Connells to find trouble.

Comments: I read this last year and it immediately made my shortlist of favourites, on top of hitting me in the heart and over the head with the subtlety of a freight train. I even made a rec post about it. The writing is so sharp it might as well be written with a bloody scalpel, the OCs are fascinating, and Jonathan is somewhat jaded but still wonderfully entertaining. It’s the only post-WW2 Mummy story I’ve ever loved (read?), and certainly the only one that incorporates Tomb of the Dragon Emperor elements I’ve ever loved. Give it plenty of reviews, it deserves them.

After the Sunset: What’s left to do, after saving the world and riding triumphantly into the setting sun? A lot, as it turns out. Our Heroes ride camels, negotiate the shift from acquaintances and allies to something like a family, and encounter a couple of surprises good and bad on the way back from Hamunaptra. (Or, the one where Evelyn and Rick discover the contents of their saddlebag, Jonathan finds out that whiskey doesn’t quite cut it when a scarab has burrowed its way into your hand and arm and out your shoulder, and Ardeth gives his name and saves the day. Well, night.)

Long one-shot set just after “the end” of The Mummy.

Fairy Tales and Hokum: 1937: Two years after the events of Ahm Shere, the O’Connells are “required” by the British Government to bring the Diamond taken there from Egypt to England. In Cairo, while Evelyn deals with the negotiations and Rick waits for doom to strike again, Jonathan bumps into an old friend of his from university, Tom Ferguson. Things start to go awry when the Diamond is stolen from the Museum and old loyalties are tested...

When you get an account for something, what’s the first username you try? I’d rather not share that. What do you think might be someone else’s first impression of you? Awkward, shy, quiet, standoffish. Is texting having a negative or a positive effect for social relationships? It has its good and bad points. One of the bad things is that it’s SO easy for misunderstandings. What you say doesn’t always come off the way you intended it to.  Would you be okay with a friend wanting to date one of your exes? I think I’d have some issue with that. Have you ever been addicted to something other than a drug? The internet? Have you ever been addicted to a drug? I mean, after being on pain medications for so long my body developed a dependency. That’s just going to happen. 

Do you like macadamia nut cookies? I like how there’s usually white chocolate chips in them, but I don’t like the nuts. Just give me white chocolate chip cookies, ha.

What kind of accent do people typically have where you’re from? Californian one? It’s weird to think of myself as having an accent. It’s not distinguishable like a southern one or someone from like Boston. Bruno Mars- fail or win? I like a lot of his music.  Can you sleep without a fan on? Absolutely not during the summer. This summer I have 3 that are always going. Even during the winter I sometimes still have 1 on.  Does history interest you at all? Yeah. What’s something you wish you could do-over? A lot of things. How many times a day do you apply deoderant? If it’s a really hot day and I’m out and about for some reason, I may need to apply a couple times or so. Otherwise, once tends to do the job. Have you ever tried any drugs? Just weed. What caused the most intense physical pain you’ve ever felt? After any of my surgeries. Do you like those Sperry Top-Sider shoes? Sure. I actually had a pair of cute plaid ones once. Can you wear shoes like that without getting blisters on your ankles? I don’t have that issue. Would you agree that dark chocolate tastes like rotten chocolate? I don���t think it tastes rotten, but I don’t like it.  Do you touch your lips when you’re nervous? Yeah, I pick at and bite them. Do you think you can read other people’s body language well? I think I usually can pick up on that stuff. Are you a good driver? I don’t drive. Did you pass your driver’s test the first time you took it? I haven’t taken it. Would you rather be involved in a watergun or a paintball gun war? Neither. Is your hair in layers or is it all the same length? It was layered, but it’s been so long since I got a trim that it’s almost all one length now. I was very scared, but taking off and landing are definitely the worst of it. Once you’re in the air it’s fine, unless there’s bad turbulence. I’ve only flown a total of 2 times and that was over 10 years ago, so I’d definitely be nervous. It’d feel like the 1st time all over again. I’d probably be nervous every time even if I was a frequent flier let’s be real. Be honest. Do you like making other people feel jealous? No. I admit that I played stupid games like that before, though. SO stupid. Have you ever purposely made someone of the opposite sex jealous? Yes. :/ ^^^ Are you addicted to shopping? Kind of. biography !!

born the middle child to a man in the air force and a woman whose passions laid among writing diet cookbooks and recording cooking DVDs, maribel was never anything extraordinary.

after all, her elder sister had a voice made for broadway, and her younger brother was writing sonnets before he’d hit middle school. and maribel was just maribel, another girl with middle child syndrome

her household was typical, conservative all-american, strict no matter where they moved. curfew before 9pm and family dinner every sunday, mandatory; better not miss out on those vegetables or you’ll be sitting there for hours. grounded for grades below their expected. the usual.

there wasn’t anything particularly interesting in her life for the longest time. she was just another shy girl who moved to school to school, quiet and seated in the very back of class, as if that’d allow her the coverage to remain unseen.

she couldn’t color in the lines, or follow the lines, or draw a straight line, the kind of gal who opened her mouth at the wrong time, whose voice got washed away by another’s interrupting. she got picked on at most schools, due to her size and her stumbling words, and she’d let it happen for the most part. always the wannabe, trying to be who she wasn’t.

it hadn’t helped that her mother was some sort of ... health food guru, a woman obsessed with image and the epitome of health - her practices were often forced upon maribel, especially, beginning in a long, difficult relationship with food.

by the time she was a freshmen in high school, her parents had divorced and, for a brief moment, mari thought she could finally settle down somewhere and become a normal teenager. this was until, of course, her mother enrolled her in a boarding school in nevada.

with her sister graduated and her brother still in middle school, mari was left alone in a strange school; the only constant being the cliques that surrounded herself and the money they waved around, as if it were nothing.

the only time she was ever really approached was because of her knack with forgery, a talent picked up after hours of mimicking others’ handwriting, an attempt to change every single part of her into someone likable.

often stayed in the computer labs during lunch and free periods, firstly because she’d never been allowed to have a computer at home (rots yr brain!) and secondly because she’d gotten into programming, and it was something she could actually ... see herself doing, potentially.

was alone in this until her sophomore year, when the next new kid found their way into the computer lab; the loser zone, the land of outcasts. this individual, despite their quirks and oddities, became maribel’s first genuine friend. they were a little too into conspiracies and mysteries, but that was alright.

soon enough, it started to rub off onto maribel, as well, who’d always been observant but not the kind of gal to put it to use. they became a tiny pair of investigators, p.i.’s without the certification, investigating petty school drama that was usually written on the inside of a bathroom stall.

essentially a less impressive nancy drew / scooby doo gang / veronica mars duo.

surprisingly ! beginning junior year, maribel got involved with the weed and underaged drinking and whatnot b/c her like, very best friend was doing it and she wanted to be...impressive, i guess?

so then they became stoner detectives. about halfway thru their junior year is when things got uuhh ... complicated.

one night they were just, y’know, getting high and other typical teenager things. and then someone started talking about aliens, and then area 51, and then they both became increasingly aware that they were living in nevada and Not Too Far from the airbase.

long story short, they attempted to break into area 51. they got caught, got charged with trespassing and had to be bailed out of county jail, maribel’s dad almost lost his job, and her best friend disappeared without a trace almost immediately afterwards. spooky shit !

this is when her mother packed up and moved them to west ham, kansas ! it was for a ~fresh start~ but really was just a way to keep her eye on maribel.

i mean, god, for the rest of her junior year maribel was miserable. she was a student at west ham high but like ... god, she hardly spoke to anyone. drug tested every week, essentially on some sort of form of house arrest.

wasn’t really allowed to get a job during this either ! so she made money by anonymously creating and selling fake I.D.’s b/c like ... yolo, y’know? why not?

her mental health deteriorated during this and by the summer before her senior year she was getting help for an eating disorder. she was essentially gone the entire summer, but like ... doubt anybody noticed tbh !

by the time senior year rolled around, maribel was in a better place and was like ... determined not to fall into a bad headspace again. her anxiety’s still pretty strong but ! she’s trying !

uuh started working for the school newspaper as a help column under a fake name b/c ! this was her way of branching out and getting to know students w/o actually doing it lmao.

took a few of her classes online so she could leave school earlier, just b/c it was a major source of anxiety for her and like ... she couldn’t eat alone in the bathroom again. her mom was a little less ... restrictive, so maribel got a job.

or well ... she got a lot of jobs. maribel, being maribel, can hardly keep a job b/c she usually ends up fucking up real badly in an almost comical manner and getting fired.

on the otherhand, she had earned herself a partial scholarship and was debating over majoring in computer science or investigative journalism (her parents were very disapproving of her doing computer science, however, so she was likely to be forced into journalism) ... until the trip.

she went as a simple act of kindness, y’know, to give back to the community that she hardly knew.

and now here we are !! joining faction one b/c she knows of everybody there and they’re all her age and like ... she can’t be on her own or she’d actually die lmao so !

Eurovision 2014 my top 37

Hello and welcome to another episode of this ESC tops series, and I only have to review 5 more contest and I’ll finish this before I go back to school. In the meantime I go back to May 6, 8 and 10, 2014, when the 59th edition of the contest was held in Copenhagen, Denmark, after Emmelie de Forest’s victory in Malmö last year. 37 countries took part, while Poland and Portugal returned to the contest, Serbia, Croatia, Cyprus and Bulgaria withdrew because of financial difficulties. The contest was won by Austria and Conchita Wurst with the song Rise Like a Phoenix, making this their second victory overall and the first one after 1966, 48 years later. And now, let’s review the songs!!! Also I have to say the postcards are stunning and the best I’ve ever seen. 

1st Place: SWEDEN/Sanna Nielsen-Undo (Real Placing: 3rd-218 points) 

This entry has a special place in my heart, I love Sanna so much, her voice is so great and the music is lovely, the lyrics are a bit bad but that doesn’t change anything, the performance was so shiny and it works perfectly for this song, and indeed I think this is a very powerful song, this or Conchita are my winners of that year, and UNDO MY SAD Sanna. 

2nd Place: AUSTRIA/Conchita Wurst-Rise like a Phoenix (Real Placing: 1st-290 points)

Behold the winner, and WHAT A WINNER SHE WAS, the song is something from a James Bond movie, her voice is stunning, she’s stunning, the performance is pure fire and magic, and the lyrics are so empowering, I’m so glad she won that night and the music is so perfect, with a live orchestra this would’ve been miles better, if that was possible because this is such a perfect song. GO CONCHITA, I love you. 

3rd Place: THE NETHERLANDS/The Common Linnets-Calm after the storm (Real Placing: 2nd-238 points) 

What a gentle and perfect song, this has a very calm and soothing music, perfect for a road trip and they have amazing voices together, the performance is so intimate and wonderful, the lyrics are beautiful and it’s one of the songs that relax me so much. A deserved runner up and what a result they had! 

4th Place: SWITZERLAND/Sebalter-Hunter of stars (Real Placing: 13th-64 points)

YEEEES this entry is everything, he’s so handsome, he has a nice voice, the music is so memorable, this has some catchy lyrics and the performance is so good, the whistling is perfect and it’s a nice detail to the song, I think this song deserved so much more and this is Switzerland’s last qualification, I hope that can change soon.  

5th Place: SAN MARINO/Valentina Monetta-Maybe (Forse) (Real Placing: 24th-14 points) 

SHE DID IT, SHE DID IT, this was their first qualification and this song is very nice, it’s one of my favorite entries from San Marino, as always Valentina’s voice is perfect and the performance is beautiful, surely this is a very beautiful ballad and I hope I get to see San Marino in the final again. 

6th Place: UKRAINE/Mariya Yaremchuk-Tick-tock (Real Placing: 6th-113 points) 

The hamster wheel is iconic in this song, and her voice is so good, also the music is amazing and it’s a very catchy song, I fell in love with this song since the first time I heard it, and it will never leave my head. An amazing entry as well and it’s perfect. 

7th Place: HUNGARY/András Kállay-Saunders-Running (Real Placing: 5th-143 points) 

Wow, this is such a strong song, the music is so dark, as well as the lyrics and the performance, his voice is good, a bit dodgy at the end but this is so amazing, a deserved top 5 result and it’s an amazing entry. 

8th Place: IRELAND/Can-Linn feat. Kasey Smith-Heartbeat (Real Placing: 12th SF2-35 points) 

Another song that IMO deserved the final, the music is so perfect, maybe her voice was a bit weak and that kinda ruined this, but the performance is so nice, the Irish touch in this is so lovely and it’s so enjoyable, surely this deserved more.  

9th Place: SPAIN/Ruth Lorenzo-Dancing in the rain (Real Placing: 19th-74 points) 

YAAAAAS SPAIN, this is such a perfect ballad and Ruth’s voice is so perfect and beautiful, also the performance is so cool and I love the music so much, she’s a goddess on stage and I’m in love with the lyrics, they are beautiful, and I have a thing for Spanish ballads so this is my perfect song. 

10th Place: UNITED KINGDOM/Molly-Children of the Universe (Real Placing: 17th-40 points) 

Oh this song is pure awesomeness, her voice is so amazing and I love the music because is so inspiring, also the lyrics are so strong and overall this is a very strong song, and IMO this deserved so much more. 

11th Place: ARMENIA/Aram MP3-Not alone (Real Placing: 4th-174 points)

At first I must admit I hated this song so much, but after many listens I appreciate it more, his voice is so special and I love how this song builds until the end, and the performance is so perfect as well, the dubstep ending is perfect and now I see it’s a very good song.   

12th Place: POLAND/Donatan & Cleo-My Słowianie - We Are Slavic (Real Placing: 14th-62 points) 

Another epic and wonderful song, the music is so perfect and I love the performance so much, it’s stunning, also her voice is so special and it makes the song so amazing. I LOVE THIS SONG SO MUCH. 

13th Place: PORTUGAL/Suzy-Quero ser tua (Real Placing: 11th SF1-39 points) 

Ooooo this is such a wonderful song, the music is very catchy and I always dance to this one, and she has a nice voice, also the performance is so lovely and appropriate, this reminds me of Danza Kuduro but still it’s an amazing song. 

14th Place: ISRAEL/Mei Finegold-Same heart (Real Placing: 14th SF2-19 points) 

Okay this is something I don’t understand, why this didn’t reach the final, this is such an amazing song, her voice is so stunning and I love her so much. This is something epic and it’s a very pleasant song, I like this entry so much and maybe the performance was the problem here. 

15th Place: SLOVENIA/Tinkara Kovač-Round and round (Real Placing: 25th-9 points)  

This song is also a very good one, I love her voice and the music is so perfect, it’s such a catchy song and the chorus is amazing, also the performance is simple but effective, and I can’t understand how this song finished so low, and it surely deserved more. 

16th Place: MONTENEGRO/Sergej Ćetković-Moj svijet (Real Placing: 19th-37 points)

Awwwwwww a beautiful Balkan ballad, and it granted Montenegro’s first qualification ever, which was an accomplishment, the music is so beautiful, and his voice is stunning, also I love the performance and this song is one of those I want to listen while flying or running in the forest, it’s a stunning entry. 

17th Place: ICELAND/Pollapönk-No prejudice (Real Placing: 15th-58 points)

THIS SONG IS SUCH A HAPPY ONE, the music is so crazy and the lyrics are nice, also I love the performance because of the costumes and the colors, the voice of the lead singer is good and I always smile at the last part because of the good vibes they bring, such an enjoyable song to listen. 

18th Place: NORWAY/Carl Espen-Silent storm (Real Placing: 8th-88 points) 

This is such a dramatic and sad ballad, his voice is such a delight to listen and I love the staging so much, and the lyrics are so touching, I’m in love with this song and it’s a very moody song, I always stay silent while listening to this song. 

19th Place: GREECE/Freaky Fortune feat. RiskyKidd-Rise up (Real Placing: 20th-35 points) 

Woah what a dance song, this is a perfect song for a party, and the performance is so cool, sadly I must admit the live performance was so weak and this failed to be a banger live. This in studio is an amazing song, and I wanted it to be like that live. 

20th Place: FINLAND/Softengine-Something better (Real Placing: 11th-72 points) 

THIS IS A VERY AWESOME SONG, I love the music so much, also his voice is stunning and overall this is one of the best recent Finnish songs, and what a result they had. This is so much my kind of music in that 2014, and it’s so wonderful. 

21st Place: FRANCE/TWIN TWIN-Moustache (Real Placing: 26th-2 points/last)

Why this came last? This might not be one of France’s best songs in the contest but it’s a very catchy song and the performance is so colorful and crazy, I’m crazy about this song and it’s such an earworm. Such an enjoyable song and I love the music video. 

22nd Place: DENMARK/Basim-Cliché love song (Real Placing: 9th-74 points)

Awww this is so nostalgic to me, it’s like old Bruno Mars songs, his voice is so cool and I love the music, it’s a very catchy song and it’s a perfect host entry, the performance is so amazing and it’s one of my fave sing along songs ever. 

23rd Place: FYR MACEDONIA/Tijana-To the sky (Real Placing: 13th SF2-33 points)  

Another nice song, the music is so good and she has a very particular voice which makes this a very enjoyable and pleasant song, it’s so catchy, sadly the performance is a letdown here but I love this song. 

24th Place: GERMANY/Elaiza-Is it right (Real Placing: 18th-39 points) 

This entry has a very amazing music, and she isn’t a bad singer, I always enjoy listening to this song, sadly it was crushed between two amazing songs and it was a bit forgotten. Still it’s a very good pleasant song to listen. 

25th Place: ROMANIA/Paula Seling & Ovi-Miracle (Real Placing: 12th-72 points) 

Awww one of my favorite duets ever is back, and this song is a nice one indeed, they sing as well as in 2010, and those high notes from Paula lift the whole atmosphere here. This might not be Playing with fire but this has it’s charm. 

26th Place: ESTONIA/Tanja-Amazing (Real Placing: 12th SF1-36 points) 

WOW THE PERFORMANCE HERE IS AMAZING, also she has such a nice song and I admire her so much because of that dance routine and singing at the same time, the music is so wonderful and it’s a very likeable song. 

27th Place: RUSSIA/Tolmachevy Sisters-Shine (Real Placing: 7th-89 points)

Oh the lovely twins from Russia who won JESC in 2006, this is a nice ballad that builds so well and they have amazing voices, also I love the seesaw and they are so cute. Somehow I think it’s one of Russia’s weakest songs but it’s an enjoyable one. 

28th Place: BELARUS/Teo-Cheesecake (Real Placing: 16th-43 points) 

I kinda think this song is a bit mediocre, but I always sing along to it and I find the music so good at the same time, also he’s such a charming singer and I can relate to the lyrics so much. 

29th Place: ITALY/Emma-La mia città (Real Placing: 21st-33 points)   

Ahhh this song is so powerful, I love the music so much and she has such a nice and amazing voice, the performance is a bit weird but I like her dress so much. It’s one of those songs I hum randomly and always that voglio te comes to my mind I start singing it.  

30th Place: ALBANIA/Hersi-One night’s anger (Real Placing: 15th SF1-22 points) 

This song is very nice, I love how the song changes every verse and the chorus is so powerful, her voice is also so good and I enjoy the lyrics so much, I was obsessed with this song when I first listened to it, and I still like it, as many songs that year. 

31st Place: LATVIA/Aarzemnieki-Cake to bake (Real Placing: 13th SF1-33 points) 

A cute and beautiful song, I love the music so much and the performance is lovely, also the lyrics are so nice, this entry makes me feel so happy and I surely want to bake a cake while listening to this song. 

32nd Place: MALTA/Firelight-Coming home (Real Placing: 23rd-32 points) 

This song reminds me sooo much to Mumford and Sons, this isn’t a bad song, it’s just I like other 31 songs more than this one, his voice is so good and the performance is cute, but I think this song could’ve been better. 

33rd Place: MOLDOVA/Cristina Scarlat-Wild soul (Real Placing: 16th SF1-13 ponts/last)  

This is a bit of a guilty pleasure, the music is so epic and the performance is quite good, but I think this has too many things going on and it can be a bit distracting, still it’s nice to listen. 

34th Place: BELGIUM/Axel Hirsoux-Mother (Real Placing: 14th SF1-28 points) 

Uhhhhhhhh, this is a quite boring song overall, his voice here was a bit bad and the music doesn’t stand out, but I like it more than the other songs below, nothing else to say, it’s a bit flat though. 

35th Place: AZERBAIJAN/Dilara Kazimova-Start a fire (Real Placing: 22nd-33 points) 

Azerbaijan outside the top 10, and I can see why, this is a very boring song without a hook, the staging is gorgeous and it’s the only thing I like about this. 

36th Place: GEORGIA/The Shin and Mariko-Three minutes to Earth (Real Placing: 15th SF2-15 points/last) 

A very interesting choice, the music is pleasant, but nothing else captures my attention in this entry, it’s a bit flat and I can’t connect with it somehow, a weird song indeed. 

37th Place: LITHUANIA/Vilija-Attention (Real Placing: 11th SF2-36 points)

For me this song is so annoying, her voice is a bit weird here and the music is hard to listen, it’s one of those songs I want to skip because I can’t stand all the package, also the performance is so... curious.

Is not like Áaron is completly cold towards strangers…he’s very cautios with them. At first he’s just polite with everyone, but as time goes by he becomes more friendly and funny. Likes to make people laugh (just like his mother) and since he cares for his close ones, he’ll be honest and direct with them. Sometimes people think he’s mean and just like to point out their mistakes, but that is a sign he cares for them.

However, just recently has earned a bad reputation  in school for is his cold and mean attitude towards girls in general. He dislike girls approaching him and even though he’s polite with them, if they keep insisting on trying to talk to him or flirt he’ll snap and tell them to get lost and stop talking to him. Áaron know he’s adopted yet that doesn’t bother him at all. Ariadna devoted herself to Áaron and spoiled him before the arrival of Victoria, but it was Kino that place him in line by being strict with him. Áaron just as Victoria are trained so that one day they’ll be responsable of the ghouls when the time comes. Áaron likes interacting with the ghouls rather with demons of higer ranks, he bores acting polite and as a prince all the time, when he’s with the ghouls it’s different and he feel like he can be himself. Just as his father with his uncle Yuuri, he has a friend in the Mekai called Thomas.

He’s very protective over his sister, his family and friends in general. He’s grateful with his family, because they gave him another opportunity to live and have a family he was denied when he was born. If he feels his family or friends are in danger he won’t doubt to act. Sometimes if that means get physical he wouldn’t mind, and there was a time in which Áaron lost control and turn himself into his wolf form and almost kill somebody that was threatening his  friend Thomas. He once got in trouble as a child by punching a girl in the stomach, since she was talking shit about the ghouls.

Other than that…he’s pretty smart and knows when to act.

Background:

Áaron arrived to Ariadna’s and Kino’s life after six years of marriage. During that time Ariadna and Kino tried having children of their own, but never succeded. Ariadna felt really sad that she couldn’t have a baby and so dedicated herself to help the ghouls. During one night, they heard an explotion in a nearby village. Ariadna sneaked out the house to see what happened and when she got there she saw a huge catastrophy. The houses were on flames and no one seem to have survived. Yet Ariadna heard the cry of a baby and when she follow it, she found a woman from the wolf clan in a terrible state. The woman was the baby’s mother and had used her own body to shield her baby. Yet a group of rebels found them and since the baby was the product of an unwanted relationship, the rebels were ordered to kill him and all witnesses. The woman before dying asked Ariadna to take care of her baby since he was supposed to be dead, she died assure and happy her baby would be safe.

As time went by no one seemed to claimed the baby and Ariadna couldn’t help but getting attached to the baby as her own desire to be a mother. Kino wasn’t very keen of the idea, but Ariadna convince him since they themselves couldn’t be parents. Ariadna spoiled Áaron and was so patience and loving that soon people truly believed it was her actual child. Three years later Victoria arrived showing that Ariadna and Kino indeed were able to conceive, but no one knows why they couldn’t earlier.  Áaron was fascinated with Victoria and might be the reason as to why he developed a liking to children.

Time passed and Áaron grew as a normal boy and met his girlfriend Kyoka, a human girl which he loved dearly… until the day she passed away due to a terrible accident. Since then Áaron understood why demons and human shouldn’t bond and decided to never get himself into a similar situation…besides no one seems to be like his beloved Kyoka and that’s for the best. He admires her: not only raising two children, while himself wasn’t even hers, but helping the ghouls and finally working. She always makes time for them and he knows she’s always for him, he always go for her for advice and was his support during his process of healing.

Kino: At first Kino was a little distant with Áaron and was constantly alert, since he thought Áaron was like some kind of bait to harm Ariadna. Once he saw Áaron literally had no one left, he started to warm up. When he was little he spent a lot of time with Kino, yet Áaron chose Ariadna in the end. He was strict with him and during his “difficult time” he always put him in line. Although Kino was the one that introduced him to the videogames and encouraged his liking for motorbikes…by accident to Ariadna’s dislike. He goes to him when is something men to men related stuff. "The Alliance could sure use you. I could use you. Fight, Major. That's an order." John turned on his heel and left the hospital room, thinking about meeting up with Liara for a drink after the recent events on Mars. There wasn't really anything anyone could have done to prevent Kaidan getting so badly hurt, but John blamed himself partially. Why had they pursued Dr. Eva? John walked back onto the Normandy and was greeted by Liara, as if she could read his mind. "Kaidan will be fine, won't he," were her first words to her Commander. Of course he would! He was the best damn marine John knew and he knew that Kaidan would fight. "Don't worry, Liara. He's fine. Can you meet me in my cabin?" John headed for the elevator, ignoring Traynor all together and her chirping of John having a new private message. Liara folded her hands together and followed close behind John, wrapping her arms around him gently when they were safely inside of the elevator. "Kaidan is very good at his job, Shepard. What happened today was a mistake and he's lucky to be alive. Is this okay--me hugging you?" "It's what I need right now. I can't help stop thinking that Kaidan should have gone back to get the Kodiak without us. James would have been strong enough to fight Dr. Eva off." John made the mistake of doubting Kaidan's strength for the first time in his life, shaking his head and hugging Liara back. Her skin was warm, inviting, and she had a motherly way about her. "We need to help the Turians on Palaven right now. I can grieve about Kaidan being laid up in the hospital later." The elevator doors opened to the 1st Deck, which John stepped off and went into his cabin with Liara. He drug her to bed and laid down, keeping his arms wrapped around her tightly. "I'm sick of this war, Liara. My people are getting hurt--people I love. Everyone is dying and I'm sick of it." Liara used her feet to kick her boots off and snuggle under the covers, lifting the covers over John and snuggling back into his arms. "Tell me about Kaidan. John turned onto his side and rested his scruffy chin on top of her head, loving how soft and plump her tentacles were. "Well, Kaidan is smart. He's the smartest man I know, and he's very agile. I just miss him and I'm so worried." Liara nodded slowly and shut her eyes, humming an Asarian tune that her mother used to hum to her, using her biotics to try and help calm the man down. Her body glowed a light blue, her fingertips tracing shapes on John's back. The man needed to sleep, and she needed to sleep too, now that she thought about it. "Rest, Shepard. Kaidan is going to be fine. I know this." She knew Shepard was desperate for comfort when he would have her spend the evening in his cabin, sleeping, cuddling, and holding onto her for dear life. Liara, in a way, was all Shepard had left of the past. And she was okay with that.

The next day, John got up early and gently grabbed Liara's hand, moving it to the empty pillow beside her, and let her sleep. He went and got two cups of coffee and two plates of food, carrying it up on a tray. "Liara? I brought breakfast." John climbed back in bed and handed a cup of coffee to Liara when she sat up, along with one of the plates of food. "Thank you so much for everything you do for me, even for everyone. I don't let just anyone comfort me, but you know that. You're one of my most dearest friends." John ran his fingertips over Liara's tentacles, smiling gently as he felt them gently pucker at his fingertips. It took a lot of trust for an Asari to let someone touch their head. Liara smiled as she looked over the edge of her cup and tilted her head lightly. "Love, it's a funny thing. It can mean different things. The love between us is friendship, even best friends. John took transportation to Huetra Memorial Hospital and practically sprinted to the room Kaidan was in, smiling upon seeing the man sitting up in bed and looking out of the window. "Kaidan. You look a lot better." John took a seat beside Kaidan's bed and noted the shaving cream and razor on the table beside the bed. Had a nurse planned to shave Kaidan? Kaidan sat up a bit more and smiled at John, opening his mouth to speak, only to be cut off by John asking a rather odd question that warmed his heart. "Mind if I shave you?" John grabbed the shaving cream, pressing the button to put some in his hand and lathered it along Kaidan's jawline and neck. He popped the cap off of the razor and gently began shaving away the 5 o'clock shadow. "The doctor says you're getting out of here really soon." Kaidan let John shave him, shutting his eyes and putting all of his trust in his Commander not to cut his skin up. The Canadian opened his eyes again when John was done and ran his hand along the smooth skin of his jaw, nodding in approval. "Thanks, Shepard. It's perfect." "I hope you're joining us back on the Normandy when you get out of here, Kaidan." John stepped over to the sink and washed his hands off. Kaidan sat up even more, gently, because he was still sore. People in the community, they say, Hey, Christina, you really need to cover the story. This is a man who is well known throughout the community. He does a lot of construction work and he randomly came down with Covid and is having this terrible, long lasting reaction to it. I think you should tell his story. We were We were. We were freaked. We were doing a lot of traveling, healthy, healthy, healthy, energized bunny. Just go, go, go! But here in New Orleans, you know, you would see them out a jazz fest. They were hanging out for Marty Girl going to all the balls. He was traveling all the time. Life for them was, as they told me, pretty magnificent. Mr. Keith tested positive for Covid early March 2020. He had just gotten back from being out of town for a work trip that he went on, he went to Texas. He wasn’t feeling well, and so he’d are already quarantined himself in his room. I was weak. I had a headache. I had my temperature. April 1st it got so bad that I didn’t think I could shake it. And I was trying to call for Steph, but Steph couldn’t hear me, but my daughter happened. Nicole at the same time. Thank God for that, because she called. Um what I found out later was that I was in the midst of a stroke. E m s came, took into the hospital. It just had a ripple effect on him. And keep in mind, this was a as his wife described him perfectly healthy man who did not have any prior health conditions. So this definitely caught that family off guard. Everything was acute from kidneys, the lungs, the heart, things that he never had because he he was never in the hospital, never going in the hospital. So when this happened, it was like a bomb went into his body from that covid and a stroke. Um, I had to have dialysis. Um, I couldn’t eat, So they put up a tube in my stomach. One day we got that call in the middle of the night. My daughter got says, like, you know, he’s in ICU. His coded. What do you want us to do? And she’s like, do whatever you can to possibly saving. And, um, he got to I c u two days later after that, and he was in a stroke ward. So the recovery period started from there, But it was a monster. It was. They told me it wasn’t an easy time for him because he was so used to doing everything on his own. He had never been in a hospital before. I see I’m gonna get up and I’m leaving. And I got up and I fell face down. Wow. You know, and then that helped me to see that what was wrong with me was a little more serious than I thought. You know, the toughest part you couldn’t see your loved ones like that was really hard. Miss Stephanie wasn’t able to hold his hand, not being able to see him not being able to figure out how he was doing, how he’s feeling, or to calm him down and ease some of his frustrations that he had when he was first in there. You know, when he was released, he wasn’t sent home just yet. He had to go right to rehab and start learning the basics while he was there. Brush my teeth. How to clothe myself, my vocal cord was they diagnosed as being paralyzed on one side. So I took a surgery. At the time we had told so many stories of those who had beaten Covid, and that was it. It was just that they survived. And we’d also shared stories at the time of those who sadly, did not survive with Mr Keith story it was. He beat it, but he’s learning how to live all over again. And in an instant like that, his entire life changed. And then he was finally able to come home. That was his welcome home, Mr Keith Drive by parade celebration that they had. He sat outside. He had his balloons. He got to see a lot of his family members, many of whom he hadn’t seen a month. Man, that was amazing. My daughter, I was laying in the bed inside and my daughter let’s say come on, Let’s go outside. It’s nice and sunny in the scroll. Let’s go take a strong. And then when she strolled me out, the street was full. All of my friends and family, uh, he was so touching, Man, what I was able to see was all the people that had been praying for me. Miss Stephanie actually reached out to me first about his update. She sent me videos and said, Look, he’s walking by himself and I was like, Oh, my gosh, look at him Go. Yes, yes, yes. It was a complete 1 80 to see him the first time last summer up until now, with his his spirit, as well as just his attitude and his physical growth, because the first time I talked to him, he was just himself almost defeated at the fact that this happened to him and his family. It wasn’t just Mr Keith. It was Stephanie to who had to change her whole life around and become a caretaker for him. You can’t carry all this burden on your own or you get depressed. You give up. I mean, she’s an excellent caregiver, and I think I think I have for having her as a wife watching the recovery. It’s, uh it’s a blessing to see that it can happen. You know you can come back. A big thing Mr Keith really looked forward to was playing with his grandkids again. He’s got really, really young grandchildren and being able to hold them, throw the ball to them, catch them little things like that that he wasn’t sure he would be able to do again. My grandson, he called every night before he goes to bed. Goodnight, Papa Paul, I love you, Popo as the old man that makes me melt like butter, but it gives me the motivation to do better. Right now, he’ll speak in his false settle to rest his pipes and his vocal cords. But he’ll try and he’ll say, Yeah, you can see how I still have my voice. I’m pretty fluent. That’s doing the things that I need to do, getting in and out of bed, going taking a shower. I was using my left hand at first, but now I use my right and I can use my right hand much more than I’m a right handed person. Now I’m still walking with a bit of a limp, but at least I am balanced enough to do some walking. I’m at the point where they’re trying to get where I can raise one leg and stand on the other, and that’s been a little difficult. But again, that’s where the therapy comes in their biggest messages to just follow whatever guidelines may be in place, and the sooner everyone cracks down and does what they’re supposed to do, they said, the sooner we will be able to get back to what we love. Mr Keith is now vaccinated, and he is just overjoyed about that. He told me He’s even at his church right now, helping others who are just dealing with the mental weight of this pandemic. He’s using his story and his situation to help motivate and to inspire others who are feeling defeated. The key is to keep your life going like it was before, and I venture to do that now. Now that I had the shot, I’m, uh I’m looking at trying to start getting out a little more, get to Atlanta by the other grandkids, do the car shows again. The numbers are really coming down. Dating and priorities. 1500, 18 Mar 2021

"Priorities" has been such a key word these days, because as much as I had been experimenting with a specific type of dating, I'm glad that I'm able to clarify to myself the good things among any else. This time I'll record what happened with my 1st few trials with said certain type of dating. Try to guess what kind of dating I went for, though they all took place online.

In retrospect, the first profile I made was the best. I could rejoice ironically how much of a regret I had after deleting it, but I'm not someone who goes with guilt and remorse. I always move on, though this time it felt more emotional, and I felt I had to carry an extra sack from where I'm walking away from, like this was a souvenir from the experience I went through.

My first profile picture was really elegant with a tinge of sultriness, but just a teeny tiny tinge of that. The background was a pale pink with a light tiffany green accessory cape, a few dark wooden-like ornaments on a sort of mantel. At least that was the impression of the profile picture, because truly it was just my bookshelf and my bedroom wall and a random piece of sheet I threw over to cover my sort of library collection.

I was wearing my bob with my bangs pinned up so I looked clean, tidy, well kept, classy, simple, no-nonsense. My make-up was a simple blush pink lipstick, some mascara, some compact powder to cover my undereye circles, brow penciled. The compact wasn't really covering the deeper shade of my undereye fully, combined with daylight it seemed too transparent, but that warrants my no-need to do any eyeshadow.

In the profile picture I'm in a half smile, but really it's just a matter of angle because I don't have to smile at all, I just seem like I'm smiling politely. My eyes looked downwards at the camera lens. I looked really classy.

Anyways the description and the photo was a boom because I received messages as soon as I put them online and they got approved.

There's this guy who offered a pay per meet but they gave off an off vibe so I deleted the message.

Over those kinds of inboxes the 1st guy that caught my eye did exactly this: he wanted to meet over coffee and offered a monthly allowance of 3000. That caught my eye because he meant business. I later caught on with him by texting outside of the website only to come to the conclusion I wasn't able to meet him because I won't be around until the middle of April. He told me to let him know when I'm back in the city.

Maybe he was the 1st person I reached out the furthest, I was interested and sent a message of a song recommendation from spotify to him but he didn't reply. It felt like dangling on a cliff. 1 week later I got another message from an overseas number offering a job. I knew the only way was through this person because I only used this new number of mine to communicate with him.

That gave a suspicious feeling, because this proved he might give any info of mine to anyone and the key thing was Without My Permission, I don't care if he did it out of what kind of intention. It was wrong and crossed my line, and as much as the offer of 3000 monthly seemed attractive to me (a 1st timer) I decided to delete their contact on my phone.

I had another place where I kept account of our chat details so if I ever (but highly unlikely) want to reconnect to this person whom I had researched online and found out he is a carpet businessman who looks I have seen via photographs of him, I decided it was done.

My principles.

The next person I dealt with just recently. He was such a friendly person who seemed genuinely into the game. And by game, I'm sure with his experience, he's a player. He's married but still looking, and from what we talked about on phone (he was the 1st to call me and the 1st guy whose voice I had heard since I started dating like this) he had a partner once for 2 years, she was a student but she ended her studies and things moved on but they kept being friends, this guy is someone who really manages his time with finesse, I must admit. He is a professional engineer, he says, and in his messenger account he put a name that I could easily research online and find a construction company director position linked to it. From there he is said to be a graduate from the University of Melbourne a long time ago. From there it tells me about how old he is now. His children (since he said he is married) if any, I figure could probably be older than I am.

That aside, he seemed genuinely interested to have a long term relationship. He seemed chemistry. He is very friendly and I could totally be friendly too, but I was guarded and cold compared to my usual self, especially when I was on that 1 phone call with him. He said he was driving, and he liked to hear about people's voices when he drives back home from dinner with his friends.

The next day I was greeted with a picture of a rose from him and a wish. The day after it was a quote and another wish for productivity as I mentioned my occupation too. This guy really knows how to converse. I admire his manners and conduct. In fact, he matches 89% of my description of "what I'm looking for". Save the married part.

He asked me if I'm allergic to married men. No, I'm not. I see them as humans all the same. I actually see him as a patient. It has only been 1 year and 6 months since I've enrolled in my professional academic training, and for that part of mindset, I was intrigued by myself to be honest.

Like I said, I was interested also because I was curious why he would had such kinds of affair after marrying a woman. I researched online for a consecutive 3 days regarding this matter. The reasons were humane enough.

I was reckless and threw this connection away. Because I was trying, too hard. I had a favourite guru on this sort of dating and she was successful. In her videos she said it was never too soon and about how we keep our standards up high so that people we date are on par and we don't waste our time. Be focused on the aim. There's nothing wrong with that. Anyone who wants something has to set their intention on it.

I wanted a book so I texted him about it and he read my message and never ever replied. I was filled with guilt I removed my simcard so that I never EVER reconnect with this person however the chemistry or friendliness existed for the first 2 days.

I recall a tarot reading because I'm into these stuffs. The reading said this person "will prepare you for your true connection". I couldn't agree more. I felt on one hand I disrespected him, on the other hand he taught me to be respectful of time and mannerisms. It was a sort of transaction with no money involved. I'm grateful I met this person, he really reminded me of that.

He also showed me how high my standards should be.

The day after I watched my guru online and she reminded to keep it as a date, not some job.

Of course. I just went off track for a time. See how it affected everything. Impressions are so important.

I started to date because I wanted to spend my time on guys who can afford and are good in management, well in conduct, respectable. I was grateful I met them. It felt rare. I wouldn't have met these people who are multimillionaires, entrepreneurs, CEOs, Directors, if I only mingled with peers. Plus my peers suck.

What an experience. I'm thankful for these gurus. Eventhough I will most probably NEVER meet them ever again. But I will remember their names, they have touched me without knowing (it's not that sentimental, just stating) and if I ever come across them in real life, I will send a wish for their general well-being. Like putting it out to the universe and the universe will take care of everything else.

I took out my profile and deactivated it. Nothing remains except if you're a hacker you may retrieve the deleted info. It was like a summer fling to me. Although everything IS like a fling to me. I take things less serious than I seem to be, and as much as I'm warm around, my heart isn't as so.

All in all, it was my 1st experience with sugar dating. Yep. Meeting successful men who keep their private life so private people assume they're gay? Interesting as heck.

I'd love to redo this again in the future after I level up. Ah, such are the beginnings of and afterthoughts for my dating choices. Imma try to write a book in the end as a memoir. Cheers!

What’ll we do, honey girl? Your dada will be too busy! And your papa will be too horn-”

“Louis,” Harry interrupted, touching Louis’ arm. “I’ll be okay. It’s probably not even my rut. I can appreciate you… all of you… even when I’m not in rut.”

Louis looked at him skeptically, imagining the shitshow that would be Harry in rut, surrounded by family and friends, at their child’s first birthday party. “I hope you’re right, H.”

(this fic was so adorable and soft! i had a smile on my face the entire time! i don’t read a lot of fics where h&l are parents that don’t include pre-pregnancy but this sounded so cute that i couldn’t resist and i’m glad i gave it a shot! it’s well-written and lovely just like all other of this writer’s fics!!)

It's easy enough to forget about his problems when confronted with the routine that exists in a former abbey in the moors, when the only people around are a cat and the caretaker.

And then the mysterious owner returns.

(another vampire harry fic! i loved the writing and the atmosphere in this fic which felt so real and developed despite it being a shorter fic! i loved the louis and harry here and the added aspect of louis getting over being cheated on and trying to escape. the story had a very ambiguous/open ending that worked perfectly for the story!)

“Excuse me?” He demands, straightening up in his seat. The hem of his dress creeps further up his thigh but he pays it no mind.

(this author’s writing style is always so immersive and evocative and this fic is no exception! i’m honestly floored by how she managed to write this wonderful story in ONE DAY! the smut was hot and although i definitely pictured H as Harry the entire time, i loved the aspect of mystery in his identity and that the reader could choose to imagine him as whoever they wanted!)

"Can we go there?" Louis asked, probably pointing somewhere. Harry opened his eyes and felt his heart jump in his chest, a magazine page a couple of inches away from his face. Startled, Harry closed his eyes and breathed heavily, trying to collect himself.

Harry blinked a few times to focus his eyes on the page Louis still held in front of his nose. "You want to go to the Grand Canyon?" He furrowed his eyebrows, tilting his head to the left to look at Louis' face.

(i love roadtrip aus and this one was so cute and lovely! the * troubles - don’t want to spoil - added another layer of depth to the story and i really enjoyed that too! their relationship was so cute and i loved how supportive and lovely harry was to louis in this fic when he needed it :’) also the ENDING!! i’m a sucker for endings like that - again, don’t want to spoil - and this one was so cute, i had a giant smile on my face!!! remember to read tags!)

(this was so adorable!!! i’ve been craving some more quarantine fics and this one delivered so well! i loved the aspect of violin and flute playing, writing songs together, the neighbors to friends to lovers, and of course i loved louis’ cat, Snowball <3 such a lovely story and so so heartwarming! highly recommend!)

(i’ve already recced this fic on here a few months back but it’s recently been finished so i will be screaming about it again. another favorite of this year and favorite of all time. i’ve reread this fic over and over since it’s finished and i never get tired of it. i love these characters and this storyline (which is so unique and refreshing, honestly) so much. the setting also makes me feel nostalgic in the best way)

(THIS. FIC. it was so cute and amazing! i don’t get the chance to read a lot of longer fics as much as i want to but i somehow read this in one afternoon because i couldn’t put it down. it was so heartwarming and i loved the progression of their relationship and louis was so lovely and so was harry and ugh, it was so good! the ending made me emotional too <3)
