Choosing the best flight option for Umrah from the UK
Your Umrah pilgrimage is a holy trip that offers an opportunity to deepen your faith and realize a long-held desire. Selecting the best flight from the UK to Makah is a vital step to make before the rites start. Making decisions might be difficult because there are so many options easily accessible. Traveler, do not be frightened! With the information in this guide, you will be able to pick the ideal flight option for your Umrah journey with confidence. Let’s dive into choosing the best flight options for Umrah from the UK.
Direct Flights Connecting vs. Flights:
Choosing between price and accessibility is the first important choice. Traveling by direct flight from main UK airports such as Manchester or London Heathrow is easy and simple. You take off from the UK and arrive in Jeddah or Madinah, Saudi Arabia, prepared to start your Umrah pilgrimage. Direct flights, however, often turn out to be more expensive. There can be considerable savings on connecting flights with stopovers in different cities. The cost in kind? Longer journey times, possible delays, and the difficulty of going through several airports. Think about your priorities: Connecting flights may be an option if cost is a top priority. Even so, buying a direct ticket can make sense if you're on a tight time frame or just want a stress-free trip.
Choosing Your Airline: A Balancing in Reputation & Service
Begin to explore the realm of aviation. Flights to Saudi Arabia for Umrah are available from the UK on many reputable carriers. Choose airlines with a stellar service reputation, a strong protection history, and experience serving Umrah pilgrims, even while the price is a concern. Look for airlines that have a history of being on time and offering cozy cabins with facilities that are ideal for lengthy flights. Seek out airlines that provide dietary-conscious in-flight meals, especially if you're following Halal requirements. A few of airlines also provide specific areas for prayer and restrooms, which can further improve your comfort level while flying. Do not hesitate to analyze the costs and services provided by various airlines. Numerous travel agencies working online can assist you in finding affordable flight tickets as they deal in Umrah packages.
Saudi Arabian Airports of Departure & Arrival: Jeddah vs. Madinah
After selecting a carrier and flight category, think about the Saudi Arabian airport of your choice for landing. King Abdul-Aziz International Airport (JED) in Jeddah and Prince Mohammed bin Abdul-Aziz Airport (MED) in Madinah are the two main choices. If spending extra time in the holy city is the most important thing on your Umrah schedule, Jeddah is an appealing choice because it is closer to Makah. Still, Madinah is extremely important since it is the place where Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) is interred. Arriving in Madinah, many pilgrims opt to explore the Prophet's Mosque and other historic sites for a few days before continuing to Makah for the Umrah events. The optimal option boils down to the best itinerary and the purpose of your Umrah trip.
Taking Layover Options into Account (for Connecting Flights)
When selecting a connecting flight, be sure to look into your alternatives for layovers thoroughly. Short layovers save time on the road, but if your first flight is delayed, they may also result in difficult connections and more tension. Think of a few-hour layover; this will give you enough time to get off the plane, rest your legs, and maybe even pray in peace at the airport's designated prayer areas. Some airlines provide layovers at historically or culturally important locations. Before continuing to Makah, you can boost your stay and visit these locations during the layovers.
Early vs. Last-Minute Flight Booking:
The cost of your flight may vary greatly based on when you book. Significant savings can be achieved by making advance travel reservations, especially in the off-season. But this involves being flexible with your travel schedule. If you have decided on travel dates, keep an eye on airfares. At the last minute offers are made by certain airlines, however, they can be unstable and dependent on accessibility. Supply Umrah packages. You may get alerts about price cuts and exclusive offers that match your vacation dates. Read also: The key facts when choosing flights from the UK to Umrah
To Finalize
Surely taking care of flights favors you so you can easily embark on you spiritual journey having no stress at all. Additionally reliable travel agents will also help you taking care of your unexpected issues as well.

`IOLANI PALACE IS IN DANGER
Honolulu Civil Beat - June 23, 2020 - By Denby Fawcett
`Iolani Palace reopened Friday, welcoming visitors for the first time since March 18, when the palace shut down with most of the rest of the state to prevent the spread of the coronavirus.
But what visitors were unable to see as they walked through the elegant rooms is the decay of the building from decades of postponed maintenance. `Iolani Palace is the only official royal palace in the United States.
It was built by King Kalakaua, opening in 1882. It served as the Hawaiian royalty’s residence and place of business until the overthrow of the monarchy in 1893. In the palace attic, two leaks in the roof allow water to seep into the curator’s storage room where priceless artifacts are safeguarded.
So far, nothing has been damaged because of the diligence of palace workers who rush to put out plastic buckets during big storms to protect historic materials from water damage.
The entire roof was redone during the eight-year, $6 million restoration project in the 1970s that turned the palace into the treasure it is today. Since then nothing has been done to repair the slate part of the roof.
“Sometimes we think of the palace as more of a tourist attraction, but what it represents is irreplaceable,” said Glenn Mason, Hawai`i’s premier historic restoration architect. Mason has been the lead architect on 11 major phases of restoration work at the palace.
Evidence of other deterioration, he points out, is the “sugaring” of the plaster on walls that “comes off as powder in my fingers. The plaster just rubs off. We need to do something about it.”
Strips of plaster are peeling off of some iron columns.
Cast iron elements including the railing on the second floor have rust bleeding through and need to be repainted.
Wooden boards on the second-floor lanai have rotted.
Two dangerously unstable pergolas — shaded seating areas — on the palace grounds are fenced off with an “area closed” warning.
Mason did the last major repair on the palace’s Coronation Pavilion in 1983, but now the pavilion is weakened by cracks in its concrete, making it too unstable to use.
“`Iolani Palace is not going to heal itself. It is important to recognize that this is arguably one of the more important buildings in the state with a critical role in telling Hawai`i’s history,” says Mason. Money Is Running Out
The palace is owned by the state but maintained and operated by the nonprofit Friends of `Iolani Palace.
The Friends’ revenue for salaries and operations comes from the gift shop and palace tour ticket sales, special events and donations.
But Friends’ Executive Director Paula Akana says since the palace shut down in March it has lost $550,000 and is still losing about $7,700 a day.
Before the coronavirus, 450 to 550 visitors daily paid to tour the palace rooms. Now with social distancing restrictions, no more than 105 visitors can come a day and only in carefully staggered groups of five.
The palace is open now only on Fridays and Saturdays to visitors making telephone or online reservations. Without more funding, Akana expects the palace to run out of operating money in three to four months.
She is urging local residents to visit and buy memberships. She is also seeking grants from organizations promoting educational opportunities in museums and cultural sites. At the beginning of this year’s legislative session, two bills were advancing to help pay for many of the needed repairs at the palace, including the roof. “It seemed very few lawmakers had been aware of the problems at the palace. When we told them about leaks in the roof, it was a real shock to them,” Akana said. She became executive director of the Friends of `Iolani Palace last July after 35 years as a reporter at KITV. “We had a lot of hope and then came the pandemic,” she said.
State lawmakers who reconvened Monday have made it clear in the three-week session their main focus will be on addressing Hawai`i’s unprecedented economic collapse — especially helping the more than 200,000 now-unemployed residents. So, short a miracle, the palace will have to wait for funding.
“This doesn’t mean the need for repairs will go away,” Mason says. “The roof won’t stop leaking. Work costing $100,000 today will cost $200,000 in the future. It is hard to expect people to put money into preserving an old building when thousands of people are out of work, but the answer is not deferring the repairs.”
The state needs to find a way to work in a partnership with the Friends of `Iolani Palace to stay on top of the fragility of the old building. “What is needed most is a dedicated source of funding,” says Akana. Short of that, one of the stalled bills included a logical proposal: require the Department of Land and Natural Resources to conduct a structural and electrical survey of `Iolani Palace to submit to the Legislature with a five- to 10-year plan to proceed with repairs, restoration and maintenance of structures and grounds. `Iolani Palace is like any old home. It needs a plan and money to keep it beautiful into the future.

21st Century Maritime Silk Road
Traditionally the actual Silk Road extends via Xian in central China and taiwan to either the Middle Far east or Europe. In fact there are several routes, some to Moscow in the north and those straight into India and Pakistan in the south. The same as travellers in the time regarding Marco Polo - the particular thirteenth century - typically the ancient trade routes remain although the type of goods available and the method of transport get changed. The reason why the Cotton Road starts/ends in Xian is that it was the ancient investment of China and dimensions trade routes, in many cases across the Yangtze and Yellow Estuaries and rivers, were already established for you to distribute goods within Cina.
Nowadays, many tourists start off their Silk Road trip in Beijing. The Poderoso City, the Great Wall involving China the many places connected with historic interest will make the 3-5 day stay useful. Add to it a little store shopping and time to experience n . Chinese cuisine and you are positioned for your Silk Road encounter.
Getting there. Most intercontinental airlines fly into Beijing, Shanghai and Hong Kong. You will find a lesser choice of flights to help and from western Tiongkok and most of these are structured out of the capital of Xinjiang Province, Urumqi.
China offers rail connections north in order to Mongolia, Hong Kong, Tibet along with west to Moscow. To the even more adventurous there are multiple track links into Vietnam.
Instructor access from/to Pakistan is offered along the Karakorum Highway, in addition to November though April, introduced closed. Delays and distress can be part of this path so be prepared. Travel throughout Pakistan needs serious thought. We spent 12 great days travelling there at the end of 2007 but with the climb of the Taliban the risk intended for westerners has increased dramatically.
Integralinis are required for all access take into account China and I recommend that all these be obtained well in advance.
Driving around Train travel is famous in China although it is equipped with an extensive coach network. Naturally you could fly but that might really defeat the main intent behind visiting China - in order to meet the people. Train travel is usually reliable, fast and affordable. "Soft" sleeping compartments because of four or on a few routes for two persons are offered or if you want to join often the locals try the "hard" class, but unless you need treatment on a tight budget, it's not encouraged. You will need assistance buying the railroad tickets as few stop staff speak English. The particular timetables and options might be complex. Ask a travel company with China experience to help you.
Many companies offer tours over the Silk Road. Most of these work with a combination of coach and also. International companies include DISTANCE, Peregrine, World Expeditions, Vacation Indo-China. You can find these applying Google. Some tours will include a lour leader and guideline. Standards of accommodation in addition to comfort are reflected from the pricing.
Another option is to work with a guide through Chinese firms like Xinjiang Silk Path Adventures in Urumqi. Community guides can be provided with a per day basis or all round for a tour, at inexpensive prices. Tour guides are required to always be licensed in China.
When is it best to Go China is a huge country covering eight timezones. Its climate varies noticeably. Summers can be hot as well as sticky and the winters really cold so the best several weeks are in Spring and Fall months. Consult a good guide reserve for the temperatures that you can knowledge at the time of your planned vacation so that you can dress appropriately.
Egypt Road Highlights To get the best of a Silk Road quest it should not be rushed. Let a minimum of 14 days in addition to just about any stay in Beijing. If you are such as Uzbekistan add another eight days:
The major attractions are generally:
o Xian the Clay Army and other historic web sites o The Labrang Monastery in Xiahe, in the Gannan Tibetan Autonomous region to The Fort and Wonderful Wall of China Adult ed at Jiayuguan o Dunhuang for riding the two humped Bactrian camels in the great sand dunes. Nearby are definitely the Buddhist Mogao Caves fixed into a desert backdrop from the Flaming mountains. o Urumqi has an excellent Xinjiang Comarcal Museum. Two hours apart is the spectacular lake section of China, the Beautiful Lake. Here you'll find Kazakh people living in yurts and also grazing their herds associated with horses, sheep and goats. If you have the time, stay right away and experience the food and food of the locals. o Turpan is famous for its grapes, along with nearby are the ancient urban centers of Gaochang and Jiaohe, the Bezeklik thousand Juggernaut Tombs and the underground normal water systems called karez in which link Turpan to much essential snow melt from the far away Tian Shan mountains. a Kashgar, a trade option city for thousands of years. Visit the outdated city before it's destroyed and attend the famous On the animal market which though dusty is a great spectacle. e Those with extra time may find the actual southern Silk Road remanso towns of Yarkand in addition to Khotan of interest. This area is much less visited but does have several interesting side trips which includes camel safaris and journeys into the Taklamakan desert. This kind of predominantly Uyghur area provides much of interest for those that are seeking something a little different. i A short train journey or maybe flight will take you across the european Chinese border and then up on Tashkent the capital of Uzbekistan. Here the real gems in the Silk Road are to be within the ancient cities regarding Samarkand, Bukhara and Khiva. Coach travel in Uzbekistan is comfortable and reasonably priced, although the rail line western world offers an alternative.
If you are looking for a getaway with a difference and you are a small adventurous, then travelling the particular Silk Road should be on the side your list. It is harmless and affordable. And it is any hugely rewarding experience. Sure, it will have its challenges but you may be asking yourself what a story you can tell if you get home, not to mention your excellent digital photographs of the best parts of this scenic journey.

Things to do in Gongju in One Day
A peaceful place to see historic remains of Korean architecture is in Gongju.
Gongju-si (공주시) is a historic city best known for the Gongju Gongsanseong Fortress, a long stone fortress wall located up on a hill. Gongju is located about 90 minutes south of the Korean capital city Seoul and an hour north of Daejeon city.
Also, Gongju 공주 translates to “princess” in Korean!
I’ve visited Gongju a few times. One time was for a nice warm chestnut latte on a rainy day, another time was during an autumn evening, and most recently on a hot June day.
Here are some of the best things you can do in Gongju, Chungcheongnam-do, South Korea in a few hours on a one day trip.
What is the History of Gongju?
Long ago, Gongju was called Gomanaru as well as Ungjin, based on the Chinese characters. Ungjin became the capital of Baekje Kingdom from A.D. 474 to 539 when Hanseong (present-day Seoul) fell at the hands of the Goguryeo Kingdom.
Today, Gongju is best known for the Gonsanseong Fortress, chestnuts, Tombs of King Muryeong, and is small enough to enjoy and explore in a day trip.
First, you may want to know how to get to the Gongju Bus Terminal if you need to use Korea’s well-connected public transportation.
How to get to Gongju from Daejeon?
I went from Daejeon city’s Seonambu Bus Terminal (대전 서남부 시외버스터미널) to the Gongju Bus Terminal in the Singwan-dong neighborhood. (Daejeon has so many bus terminals, I wasn’t sure which one is the best.) There’s also Gongju Station (공부역) if the train station is convenient for you.
In November 2019, I went from 대전 서남부 시외버스터미널 to 공주 버스터미널 at 10:40 a.m. I couldn’t reserve the ticket online, you had to buy it at the bus terminal. On the way back to Daejeon, I took the 4:28 p.m. bus for about 4,300 Korean Won (~$4 USD).
Travel in Korea Tip: To navigate practically anywhere in Korea, you can use Naver Maps or Kakao Maps (the app or website). Or you can use Korail’s website to see train time schedules if your local train station goes to Gongju Station (공주역). Or look on the T-Money TxBus website.
I have also driven a car from Daejeon to Gongju. There’s free parking near all of these destinations in Gongju.
Gongju Gongsanseong Fortress (공산성)
Start your adventure in Gongju by visiting the Gongju Gongsanseong Fortress (공산성).
This fortress wall is the historic landmark of Gongju city and recently recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Historic Site. The stone wall wraps up and around the top of the hill. You absolutely should not skip it.
According to Gongju’s website, “the Gongsanseong Fortress gained recognition for its value as an ancient fortress of Baekje Kingdom that was built during the Ungjin period (475~538).”
The well-built wall foundations show the Baekje’s civil engineering technology at that time and later had advancement through cultural exchanges with ancient China and Japan.
A significant part of the fortress wall was rebuilt after the Joseon Dynasty.
There are a few routes with stairs or pathways to walk on the wall. There’s enough space for wheelchairs or for elders to walk, so you don’t have to worry about falling (but you should still be cautious).
The fortress also looks really stunning in the evening, where the pathways and walls are lit up. When I visited this fortress at nighttime, the admission was actually free because it was already late.
Across the street are some Korean-style hanok (한욱) roof cafes, hotels, and restaurants. You should try Gongju’s staple food: the chestnut. These cafes have chestnut-flavored drinks and snacks.
If you’d like to see more places in Gongju, you can also take a Gongju tourist pamphlet at the entrance of the fortress!
The next place you should visit is interesting if you like the history of Korea and want to see the hillside tombs of a historic king.
Tomb of King Muryeong in Gongju (송산리고분군 무령왕릉)
In Gongju, there are notable hillside tombs of an ancient king from the Baejke Kingdom.
From the fortress, we took the 5-minute bus ride to the King Muryeong Tombs. Today this site is a museum, so you can enter relics of the tombs and see other artifacts found in 1971.
According to the Korean Museum website, the Tomb of King Muryeong in Gongju in 1971 “was truly a watershed moment in the history of Baekje research. Approximately 4,600 artifacts were recovered during the excavation, highlighted by four gold crown ornaments that are now considered to be the representative artifacts of the tomb.”
Throughout the site of the tombs, there are stone guardian creatures which used to protect the tombs.
“This tomb guardian (진묘수), inspired by an imaginary creature...originally intended to guard tombs against evil forces, but they gradually acquired the function of guiding the spirits of the dead safely to the underworld. The details of this stone guardian attest to the outstanding artistic sensibility of Baekje people.”
Next to the site of the tombs, there are also the Bakseri Park, Arts Culture Performing Arts Venue (공주문예회관), and the local Ungjin Library. I hope to visit the Performing Arts Venue to hear Live music next time I visit Gongju.
The next unique destination might be seen while passing through the local cities or traveling from Daejeon to Gongju.
Seokjangri Museum in Gongju (석장리박울관)
Ancient history lovers should visit this unique site and museum.
This museum has a Paleolithic man's living exhibition field and excavated archaeological site (유적 발굴지). More than 3,000 pieces of chipped stone tools have been found, and now are on display at the museum.
“공주시 석장리박물관은 1964년 남한 최초로 발굴 조사되어 중국 최초 북경원인 발굴유적지인 주구점 유적박물관, 일본 최초 구석기유적인 군마현 이와주꾸 선사박물관 등과 어깨를 겨루는 우리나라 최초 구석기 전문 박물관으로 지난 97년도부터 143억을 투입하여 부지 16,303평, 전시관 620평 및 선사공원, 주차장 등 부대시설을 갖추고 있다.”
You can roam around the site and look at these Paleolithic man’s exhibition huts and fields.
I randomly found it (during Typhoon Lingling 2019) while driving on the highway from Daejeon to Gongju. The admission cost me 1,300 won to enter, and I think only an hour here is enough time.
Seokjangri Museum address: 990 Geumbyeok-ro, Gongju-si, Chungcheongnam-do 충청남도 공주시 금벽로 990
If you enjoy hiking or seeing nature, the next destination is known as the second National Park of Korea and the largest mountain in the Daejeon area.
Gyeryongsan National Park (계룡산)
Traveling to Gongju from Daejeon? Then you will likely pass through part of the Gyeryongsan National Park.
Gyeryongsan is an 845m tall mountain in Chungcheongnam-do, South Korea. It became the second park to be labeled as a National Park in Korea. It lies at the boundaries of surrounding cities Gongju, Gyeryong, Nonsan, and Daejeon.
This National Park was my first real hiking experience in Korea. I was really impressed with the number of delicious restaurants with tens of Korean side dishes offered all located on the bottom at the Daejeon entrance.
The name “Gyeryongsan” is a bit awkward to pronounce, but it means “chicken dragon mountain” due to its ridgeline.
If you have a favorite spot in Gongju, you can share it below. Thanks for reading!

Mystical city where the continents meet: Istanbul
Istanbul... The city where the continents meet... Historical, magical, impressive but also crowded, noisy and stressful for its residents... With its more than 15 million population Istanbul is the 4th largest city in the whole world and biggest one in Turkey of course. You will find detailed information in this Istanbul city guide.
Istanbul City Guide
Short History of Istanbul
Istanbul has its own unique long-standing history. So any of the Istanbul city guides must have some fragments about its own great history. The first inhabitant of Istanbul is dating back to almost 2nd millennium BC. They have settled the Asian side of the city at that time. Back in time, Istanbul got its first name around the 7th century which is Byzantium, a Greek name for a city on Bosphorus. Around the 6th century, BC Alexander the Great took the city and peace period started for almost 200 years for this unique place. Roman Empire In year 193 a Roman emperor Septimus Severus conquered the city remained under the Roman rule until the 4th century AD. The historical name of Istanbul which is Constantinople was given by the Constantine the Great around 5th century AD after the separation of Roman Empire to Western and Eastern Roman (Byzantium) and the city is called to the capital of Byzantine Empire. At that time the city was built over the 7 hills but it's another story. Constantinople's population rise up to almost half a million between 4th and 6th century. Also during that time, the great wonder has risen in Constantinople, Hagia Sophia! Constantinople have the number of sieges, riot and plunder during history...
Constantinople, as it appeared in the 13th century, here accurately depicted by Antoine Helbert. (Source: https://tr.pinterest.com/pin/114841859222847086/) Ottoman Turks Constantinople conquered by the Sultan Mehmet II in 1453 with 53 days of siege and city named to Islambol, became the capital of Ottoman Empire. During the next 200 years many mosques, baths, madrasahs and public houses built by the sultans. With the investments to the city and peace period give a change to the city to regain its population up to half a million once more. Throughout the centuries the name of the evolve to the Istanbul. During World War I the Great War city was occupied by the allied troops until the national struggle which led by the father of Turks the Mustafa Kemal Atatürk repel them. After the birth of the Republic of Turkey in 1923 capital moved to Ankara. But during time Istanbul has continued to grow and expand drastically, today its population over 15 million one of the biggest cities in the whole world and unfortunately, it continues to grow...
How to Get to Istanbul
Istanbul geographically has various advantages. You can take a flight from more than 300 cities to Istanbul by Turkish Airline which globally recognized. If you want a more nostalgic route to reach Istanbul you can take international trains from the Balkan to reach the city. There are two airports in Istanbul which are Istanbul Airport on the European side (opened in 2019 instead of the old one: Istanbul Ataturk Airport) and Sabiha Gokcen Airport on the Asian side. Unfortunately, both of the airports don't have a metro line at that time and you have to take a bus or taxis. You can find information about how to get from airport to city in both ways. These airports almost 80 km away from each other. So we can say that both of them location two sides of Istanbul. Just be careful before taking a taxi! Try to use Uber-like apps to not deal with scams and overcharges. Istanbul Airport's web site in English Sabiha Gokcen Airport's web site in English
Public Transport in Istanbul
Istanbul has really advanced public transport system. Metros, trains, trams, buses, ferries and taxis... In Istanbul, you have to buy an Istanbul card to use public transport. You can buy it from the terminals in the airport or various selling points around the city. You can find the main website for Istanbul's public transport. İstanbul Metropolitan Municipality İETT (Buses) Metro Istanbul Şehir Hatları (Ferry Lines) Marmaray (Suburb train line) In Istanbul its quite easy to reach your target destination by using metros, trams, train ve ferries but not buses! There is huge traffic both during morning and evening rush times. So try to use rail systems most of the time to get around the city. Most populated and touristic areas have metro or trams so it won't be a problem for you to get these places. In Istanbul, rail and sea transport mostly serves between 06.00 and 00.00 but also night lines for the buses. You can use night buses to go to most of the places in Istanbul, just don't forget to check the timetables.
Top 10 Places to Visit in Istanbul
There are countless places to see in Istanbul and you will discover a new one every time you came back to this great city but we just wrote down 10 of them. 1. Hagia Sophia (Aya Sofya) This legendary landmark always gets the first place in Istanbul city guide. There is a phrase about Byzantine Emperor Justinian when he entered the Hagia Sophia in 536 AD, he cried and said that I have outdone you, Solomon! RECENT NEWS & STUDIES, late April 2019
Welcome to my latest summary of recent news & studies including search, analytics, content marketing, social media & ecommerce! This covers articles I came across from April 9th to May 2, although some may be older than that.
I am really interested in hearing what you think of this new format - please leave a comment below, or convo, Tweet or email me through my website. Let’s make this as useful as possible!
TOP NEWS & ARTICLES
US Amazon sellers were told via email that they will have to pay taxes on some Amazon fees, as Etsy has been doing with sellers in the EU and in Quebec.
The Instagram look may be dropping out of favour; apparently, reality is in. “Instagram museums and walls were built to allow normal people to take influencer-quality photographs—but they worked so well, those types of photos became common enough that they don’t resonate like they used to. “#unfiltered
In case you missed it, my review of Etsy’s Spring & Summer Trends Guide, including all of the keyword data (which you do need to check out, as they reveal some interesting search info).
ETSY NEWS
Etsy published a new census/survey of sellers in its 6 core countries, and also did a summary (if you don’t want to read the whole thing). “More than nine out of ten Etsy sellers (91%) are the sole owner of their businesses.”... “The majority (82%) of Etsy sellers would like to grow their business, but more than three out of five would not want to grow so big that they would have to hire more help.”
The bugs & errors with financial statements and records continue; Etsy botched the VAT statements yet again, even overwriting them all the way back to 2016. No word on whether any sellers have notified EU authorities on this yet.
New seller handbook article covers advertising; not much new or gripping, but it does discuss general ad approaches, not just Etsy’s.
There is also a new free shipping tool, in case you didn’t realize that Etsy wants more sellers to offer free shipping more often. “When we talk to shoppers during research, many say things like “I want to feel like I’m getting a deal!” and “I would love to see free shipping across the board, even if it meant increased prices.” Offering free shipping can be a great way to give customers like these the shopping experience they are looking for.”
CEO Josh Silverman participated in The Wall Street Journal’s “In the Elevator” interview series [video link]. Every 90 seconds, an engagement ring or wedding ring sells on Etsy. He also talks about free & fast shipping not always being a reasonable expectation when shopping on Etsy, unlike Amazon.
Speaking of free shipping, a limited number of US customers will be getting it from Etsy, with Etsy reimbursing sellers for the costs. Non-US sellers and buyers get nothing.
Etsy’s 2019 1st quarter results will be available May 8.
SEO: GOOGLE & OTHER SEARCH ENGINES
Rand Fishkin released Part 5 of his Learn SEO in 1 Hour series: technical SEO [video & written transcript]. This is the one most of you can skip or just skim over, as it does talk a lot about coding. Some tips are important to everyone, however, like page linking/site structure (for websites), and having https set up.
Part 6 covers link building, in 10 minutes. Remember, if you are going to put effort into getting links, do it for your website & not your Etsy shop or other marketplace page. If you are creating traffic, make sure you own it.
Don’t forget looking beyond Google for your search engine traffic; this podcast [with written transcript] breaks down an approach to several of the biggest ones beyond Google. Spoiler: they only recommend worrying about the biggest, Bing, if you have around 1000 unique search visitors to your website per day.
How to get keyword ideas from the Google search results: there’s a lot more available now, beyond the search bar suggestions.
Google is asking local businesses if they would pay for their Google My Business listings. This possibility raises concerns about the impact on organic rankings.
More SEO tips for Amazon, including discussion of the various factors involved.
If pages on your website aren’t indexed by Google, there are some steps you can take to fix them. (For websites only, not Etsy shops)
Advanced/semi-advanced content: Great tips on using bookmarklets in Chrome to get SEO things done quickly. (A lot of these involve tools that work best in the paid version, so I suspect most of us will not have much use for this, yet.)
Possible Google algorithm update last week. (I am seeing changes)
CONTENT MARKETING & SOCIAL MEDIA (includes blogging & emails)
Looking for new hashtags for your social media accounts? Try: https://www.tagshitter.com (apologies for the name; that’s what they call it. It’s good, too! Just like its regular keyword research partner, http://keywordshitter.com/ )
Email subject lines [infographic] are crucial to top interaction with your newsletter etc. Includes Dos & Don’ts, plus the shockingly low open rates in most industries.
Selling through social media directly is a great way to avoid people losing interest as they keep clicking. Note that this seems to work best with items under $50, though, which they suggest solutions to in the next part of the article.
Despite all the scandals and negative media coverage, US social media use hasn’t really changed in the past few years. “A 2018 Center survey found that some Facebook users had recently taken steps to moderate their use of the site – such as deleting the Facebook app from their phone or taking a break from the platform for some time. But despite these findings and amid some high profile controversies, Facebook users as a whole are just as active on the site today as they were a year ago.”
Facebook scandal watch: FB’s “stock price jumped after it said it expects to incur a fine of up to $5 billion from the Federal Trade Commission. And that’s all you really need to know about whether the historically large penalty matters to the company.”
Also:
they admitted to asking for your email password then importing all of your contacts. “...Facebook disclosed to Business Insider that 1.5 million people's contacts were collected this way and fed into Facebook's systems, where they were used to improve Facebook's ad targeting, build Facebook's web of social connections, and recommend friends to add.”
The Canadian Privacy Commissioner is taking FB to court over breaches of Canadian privacy law.
But hey, it’s all fine, because they beat earnings expectations in the first quarter.
70% of YouTube videos watched are recommended by its algorithm. “ The recommendations are fueled by the artificial-intelligence arm, Google Brain, of YouTube’s parent company. The machine-learning models help identify videos that aren’t exactly what you just watched, but similar enough that you might like them.“
Does directing people to the link in your Instagram bio really work? Testing says that it probably doesn’t work for most accounts, and more importantly, that Instagram may be limiting the algorithm visibility of posts that direct visitors to the link in your bio.
Twitter has now limited the number of accounts you can follow in 1 day, to 400 down from 1000; this is intended to cut back on spammers.
US Twitter users are better educated & better off than the average American.(Good article for target market considerations)
ONLINE ADVERTISING (SEARCH ENGINES, SOCIAL MEDIA, & OTHERS)
Amazon is reducing/removing the ads for its own products, possibly due to increased complaints of unfair competition. “Amazon is now the third-largest digital advertising platform, behind Google and Facebook”, and could grow 50% this year alone, based on projections.
Facebook retargeting tips. And everything you need to know about the Facebook pixel for tracking your ad performance.
STATS, DATA, OTHER TRACKING
Some Google Analytics tips for websites - almost beginner level!
The Google Search Console delays are nearly all fixed.
Stats programs all give you different numbers, and that isn’t likely to improve. (This piece is semi-advanced; don’t bother with it if you aren’t a stats geek.)
ECOMMERCE NEWS, IDEAS, TRENDS
eBay’s Spring Marketplace Updates include several back end changes and a fee increase for sellers who run afoul of eBay’s seller performance standards.
Amazon sellers can buy so-called “black hat” services to beat its algorithms. These include tips from Amazon employees who are making money by reporting on Amazon’s inner workings. Amazon “also said it takes action against sellers who pay for internal information; penalties include terminating their selling accounts, deleting reviews, withholding funds, and taking legal action.” No doubt the company already has closed some of the loopholes discussed in the article.
Amazon also fires warehouse workers by algorithm, based on productivity.
GoDaddy launches an ecommerce sharing tool that lets you list across multiple websites including your standalone. Current marketplace options include Etsy, Amazon, eBay, Jet & Walmart. They bought Sellbrite as part of this move. Quite a few different entities are releasing this type of service, so shop around if it is something you are interested in.
eBay released their 1st quarter 2019 results on April 23. Total sales were down 4% from 2018 (they were close to even when currency fluctuations were accounted for), but eBay’s own income from seller fees was up. “eBay reduced their marketing by a significant amount where their cash was being used to effectively subsidise the sales of high value items. Put simply, eBay have been buying sales and now they’ve stopped and this has seen a reduction in high ticket items being sold in comparison to sales of lower value items.” Easter being later this year may have slowed ecommerce growth overall in the quarter.
...but Amazon reported record revenue, up 16.9% over 2018. Despite that, analysts note that growth is slowing, & that Amazon’s own projections for the second quarter are lower than many predicted. “Amazon’s CFO Brian Olsavsky said during the call with analysts that part of the lower guidance is due to an $800 million investment in making free one-day delivery shipping the default for Prime members.” - if you thought buyers wanted stuff yesterday already, wait til this becomes the norm ... I mean, Walmart & Target stocks fell after the announcement. Walmart is already hinting at offering the same.
You can return your Amazon purchases at Kohl’s in the US, starting everywhere in July. Ease of returns is going to be a bigger battleground in the next few years, as retailers continue to increase free & speedy shipping options.
BUSINESS & CONSUMER STUDIES, STATS & REPORTS; SOCIOLOGY & PSYCHOLOGY, CUSTOMER SERVICE
Generation Z will be making 40% of US retail purchases by next year; they are going to change a lot about selling. “ Fair trade products, ethical business practices, and a strong mission statement have never been more essential. Vend reports, “Research has shown that this particular generation cares about various environmental issues (76% are concerned about humanity’s impact on the planet) as well as social causes such as racial, gender, and income inequality.” [Gen Z come after millennials, and are currently more numerous than millennials or boomers.]
Millennials & Gen Z are big gift card buyers in the US - over 1/3 buy a card every 3 months.
Brick & mortar stores & malls are using your phone location data (location analytics) to make marketing and product decisions. “Every company interviewed for this story said it chooses not to use information that could identify individuals. But for the most part they’re on an honor system because rules governing data remain relatively lax.” This surprised me: “To glean details, including an individual’s age, income, ethnicity, education level, number of children and more, firms connect the phone’s evening location with U.S. Census data”
MISCELLANEOUS
US copyright law: the USSC rules that your copyright registration must be finished/approved before you can sue an infringer in federal court.
If you hate Gmail’s current layout, you will love this Chrome extension.
And if you use Google Sheets fairly often, you will likely learn something useful from these tips.
Google’s parent company, Alphabet, missed industry revenue expectations in the first quarter of 2019.

Tree of Happiness: How to get the most out of your holiday season without breaking the bank
December is the month of love and light, but it can be expensive to get all the things you want for your loved ones. You may be thinking, “I don’t have time for this! I need to hit the mall and buy everything!” But if you follow these tips, you can turn your holiday season into a beautiful tree of happiness without breaking the bank.
How to Enjoy the Season without Spending a fortune.
One of the benefits of spending no money on your holiday season is that you can enjoy the season without breaking the bank. Here are three ways to achieve this:
1. Go with a group and buy tickets in advance. This will save you money on transportation, as well asuddle up in a warm bed at night together.
2. Use a travel agent to get pre-booked flights and hotels ahead of time. This will save you money on both the flight and hotel costs, as well as any added extras like meals or luggage fees.
3. Enjoy the season without spending any money at all! There are many great ways to enjoy the holidays without spending a dime, so find what works best for you and go for it!
How to Get the Most out of Your Holiday Season.
There are a number of places to enjoy the holiday season, but it’s important to find the right one for you. Factors to consider include what kind of holiday you’d like to experience (Christmas, Thanksgiving, etc.), where you would like to stay during the season, and your budget.
Know What to Expect When You're in the Season
When you're in the holiday season, it's important to be prepared for everything from traffic congestion and long lines at busy tourist destinations to extreme cold and heavy snow. Be aware of what to expect and plan accordingly.
Make the Most of Your Holiday Season
By taking advantage of all the opportunities that holidays provide, you can make the most of your vacation by enjoying all that New England has to offer. From exploringurdenoads National Historic Site—a must-do if you're in Boston—to dining out at top restaurants like The Ritz-Carlton or The Benares, there are plenty of choices available without breaking the bank.
Find the Right Holiday Gifts
If you want to give your loved ones a gift that will make them happy this year, think about gifting something special like tickets or lodging vouchers for an event or tour they'll love. Alternatively, some people prefer purchasing items directly rather than giving them away as a gift; this can be done through online stores or even phone app platforms like Airbnb or TripAdvisor."
Tips for Enjoying the Season without Spending a fortune.
One of the best ways to enjoy the holiday season without breaking the bank is by using the right tools. If you have a budget, consider using common sense and using gifts that are specific to your interests or needs. For example, if you’re looking for a new book to read during the holidays, buy one specifically for the season. Or if you want to decorate your home withholiday-themed items, purchase them before the holiday season even begins!
Live in the Now and Enjoy the Season
Another great way to spend less while enjoying the holidays is by living in the now. Don’t plan too much in advance and instead focus on enjoying each moment as it comes. By living in the present, you won’t be pulled away from your vacation plan or distracted by thoughts of money worries. Instead, let go of all worries and enjoy each day as it comes.
Have Fun and Enjoy the Season
Last but not least, try to have fun while on vacation! This means don’t overdo it on activities or work yourself into exhaustion – just relax and enjoy yourself!By staying active and having some fun during your vacation days, you can help reduce stress and make sure you have a great time – without breakingthe bank!
Conclusion
Enjoying the holidays without spending a fortune is possible. By knowing what to expect and making the most of your holiday season, you can have a great time without breaking the bank. Stay safe during the holiday season and enjoy yourself!

Inverness
The Historic Courthouse Museum What do you do with a historic courthouse when times change and a new one is built? Inverness has made a wonderful historic museum in this iconic building. When looking at the courthouse, one may be reminded of the movie Back to the Future because of the clock in the cupola above the museum, but a different movie was filmed here in 1961. Inside are county archives and special collections, as well as the offices of Citrus County's Historical Resource Officer. It is also the site of the Old Courthouse Heritage Museum. Mosaic Seal of the State of Florida on the floor of the historic Citrus County Courthouse. In 1978, a new courthouse was built and this 1912 was restored to its previous glory. To quote the Citrus County Historical Society, “After peeling off layer upon layer added over the years, workers uncovered terrazzo floors and marble wainscoting. Transom windows that had been painted over and nailed shut were refinished and re-hinged. Old photographs of the courthouse gave clues to what the hidden walls, floors, and ceilings looked like.” Exhibits and Activities The museum housed in the courthouse has several permanent historical exhibits, including displays and artifacts devoted to Citrus County’s pre-history and its pioneer days, and to more recent developments, such as the impact of the citrus and film industries on Central Florida. In 2013, there was an archaeological project to clear the headsprings of the Chassahowitzka River that produced a 2,000-year-old Native American bowl ― the only one of its kind ever found intact in Florida – and it is on display at this museum. This 2,000-year-old Native American bowl was found in an archaeological project to clear the Chassahowitzka head springs. It is in this museum. Image courtesy of Diane Bedard One of the fun things on display is an old clock face from the courthouse cupola. On the back of the clock are many names and dates from the WWII time period when citizens would go up in the cupola to look out for enemy aircraft. Sally White, publisher of Adventures of Mom, and I pose with the museum's historic clock face. There is a new exhibit in the Courthouse Museum quarterly. A recent one was on manatees, including the Citrus County history of studying this marine mammal – featuring Jacques Cousteau and his son. Activities include Music at the Museum series and Coffee and Conversations. A walking tour of the downtown area is available on at scheduled times for a $5 donation. Elvis was Here People in Inverness still talk about the magical summer of 1961, when Elvis Presley came to Citrus County to film his ninth movie, "Follow That Dream." The climactic courtroom scene was filmed entirely in the Courtroom and included many townspeople as extras. When you look at the courthouse from the street, Elvis’ lookalike may be staring at you from an upstairs window. Inside, you may want to stand by a life size cardboard Elvis for a quick selfie. You never know where you will find Elvis in the old courthouse museum. Meanwhile, here is the trailer for the movie, and you can see the entire thing at the amazing Valerie Theater Sunday, February 10, 2019 at 3pm. Buy your tickets in advance here. The Valerie Theater Mrs. Pearl G. Maddox built the theatre in 1926-27 during the silent movie era, naming it the Valerie after her daughter. The first movie shown was “The Only Woman” in 1927; the last was “The Untouchables” in 1987. This historic Valerie Theater shows classic movies and has live entertainment other nights. The building was vacant from 1987 and the City purchased it in 2009. A grand reopening was held for the Valerie Theatre Cultural Center in June 2015. The Valerie Theatre hosts concerts, plays, movies and more to the residents and visitors to the City of Inverness. They have classic movies most Sunday afternoons, as well as a Friday Night at the Movies series. Tickets are inexpensive ($6) and there is even balcony seating, popcorn, and drinks available. The schedule can be found here. Shopping and Dining Downtown Inverness The courthouse square and nearby streets of Inverness house many lovely shopping and dining options. Always good food, good friends and great coffee at Cattle Dog Coffee Roasters on Tompkins Street. When you are in the mood for a good cup of coffee, a custom blended coffee drink, a special fresh-brewed loose-leaf tea or a fantastic meal, Cattle Dog Coffee Roasters on Tompkins Street is my go-to place. Feel like getting a little caffeine-happy? Try their coffee flight, featuring fresh roasted espresso and nitrogen infused coffee. The four little “shots” will pick anyone up and get them soaring! And the almond horns are another of my favorite things here. Along Tompkins Street are several wonderful retailers, including an art gallery, nature store, clothing store and gift shop. Additionally, the Hen House restaurant is certified dementia-friendly and serves some great home cooking breakfast and lunch with special service. Next to the Valerie Theatre is another great place, Nicole’s House of Cakes. OMG – get a “better than anything” cupcake and tell them NatureCoaster told you to. This giant, chocolate cupcake infused with fudge and caramel (literally) and topped/stuffed with Nicole’s patented cream cheese filling/frosting yumminess then drizzled with caramel and fudge and topped off with toffee crumbles. There is a wine bar, salt lamp store, and variety of small shops. It’s a great walking destination. Another restaurant I really enjoy is Motor City Pasta. Although the owners are not from Detroit and I am, their chef more than makes up for the misnomer. The Tuscan tomato soup is so rich, with chunks of tomato and fresh basil – and mozzarella cheese melted on top with two crostini sticking up in the center. The sandwiches are made-to-order and the pizza is baked in a brick oven. Tuscan Tomato soup and a Reuben on the lunch special at Motor City Pasta. Yummy! Next door to Motor City Pasta is Stumpknockers-Inverness and Coach’s, a sports bar. Additionally, there is an ice cream shop with a great reputation and a couple of popular pubs. Parks and Gardens Interestingly, Inverness has several nice parks in the walking downtown area, from Cooter Park (after the cooter turtle – get your head out of the gutter) to Wallace Brooks Park on Dampier Street and Liberty Park, along the Withlacoochee Trail. The Depot District integrates Inverness' downtown parks, Lake Henderson, the Withlacoochee Trail, and a wonderful open-air market to unite the area. Image by Deanna Kimbrough The Depot District was recently opened, integrating Liberty Park and Wallace Brooks Park, the Withlacoochee Trail and an open-air market building with the rowing and boating amenities on Lake Henderson. There is a Visitor Center located at 203 E Dampier Street, where visitors and residents can find out the latest local happenings. This progressive city also has a City Garden, where residents and groups can use a plot to grow vegetables and flowers without the hassle of tilling their own dirt. Inverness has a City Garden. An additional city park, Whispering Pines, is outside the courthouse area but offers 293-acres of recreation from pickleball and disc golf courses to a splash pad and city pool. Many events are held here. Fort Cooper State Park is also nearby, with 706-acres and a national register of historic places recognition. The park is dog-friendly and is located along the shores of Lake Holathlikaha. The fort built here during the Second Seminole War was used between 1836 and 1842. Many events are held here throughout the year, including a battle reenactment. Bike-friendly Community The Withlacoochee State Trail has a beautiful trail head right in Inverness. Biking and hiking the Withlacoochee Trail is easy from Inverness, as the trailhead of this wonderful 46-mile paved trail is located at the Red Caboose at 315 N. Apopka Avenue. A cyclist can ride 20 miles north to Citrus Springs or 26 miles south to Trilby on a level path with amenities and stops throughout the journey. Inverness has been awarded a Bronze Bicycle-friendly Community from the League of American Bicyclists. Sister City to Inverness Scotland Inverness was originally a settlement called "Tompkinsville," named for A. D. Tompkins, in the 1860s. His brother-in-law, Frank M. Dampier, Sr., is credited laying out the town. Tompkinsville was sold to a firm in Jacksonville, who changed the name to Inverness because the blue water of the Tsala Apopka Lake reminded them of the headlands and lochs of Scotland. Inverness was incorporated March 6, 1919 and turns 100 this year. There are 14 plaques on downtown buildings telling their history to those who will stop and read it. Read the full article

Ok so the only musicals I have booked in advance (in London) are The Book of Mormon (ofc) and But I’m a Cheerleader Musical. I paid extra 4£ refund protection for The Book of Mormon, just in case the trip gets cancelled. If I want to see any other musicals, I won’t buy tickets until I’m actually in London.
I might want to book a tour of some sort, too (something similar to the Stonehenge/Bath/Lacock tour I took a few years ago). To my understanding, most pre-paid tours can be cancelled up to 24 hours before departure and you can get refunded if you are unable to travel, so maybe I can book a day trip like this in advance. I would love a Leeds castle/Canterbury/Dover tour. Assassin’s Creed Valhalla has made me want to see ALL historical sites in England lol - such as Jorvik aka York, the cliffs of Dover and Canterbury cathedral. It’s interesting to actually visit these places irl after visiting them in-game (or vice versa) and make comparisons. The best thing is when you see a place in real life and then climb those places in Assassin’s Creed.
God I REALLY hope I get to go on this trip.

Europe? But I have no Euros!
It’s that time of the year where everyone on our social media accounts are traveling Europe and we’re all thinking: “how do they afford this?!” … What most of us don’t realize, however, is that seeing Europe is not as expensive as it used to be and if you do a lot of the little things mentioned below, you’ll be astonished at how much moola you can save! This week, I want to tell you the things I think are most important to help save you money while hopping the pond and exploring new cities and cultures.
1) Travel out of season
This might seem like an obvious one and it is certainly one I have mentioned in the past. It is so important to study and note when peak seasons are in different destinations. For Europe, Summer is the peak season and it will leave you with jacked up rates on hotels, bus fares, train fares, and even food and drinks. This is logical as summer vacation is the time when families, single college kids and working couples alike have time to travel. Much of Europe also has a similar climate to the differing parts of the United States so logically, tourists want nice weather wherever they visit. That being said, if you can suck it up and add a couple of layers in the colder regions of Europe, you can save quite a bit of currency. To me (who is coming from the bitter cold in Wisconsin), that totally pays off!
2) Flights
With flights, what I like to say is “splurge now and save later”. Flights may be unavoidably expensive when traveling overseas. They are longer, they require more gas, they require more service from the crew members. Blah, blah, blah. If you want to see Europe, you might just have to pay the extra money for a flight and know that it will be the most expensive line of your European travel budget. According to cheapair.com, the best average time to buy your plane ticket from your departure date is approximately 160 days. Searching within that range should guarantee you get a relatively good deal on flights. Don’t be turned off by the price of the airline ticket, though. Some things in life are priceless and an expensive airline ticket shouldn’t deter you from all of the phenomenal experiences you will have while you are abroad. In my previous blogs, I’ve mentioned flight trackers like kayak.com and skyscanner.com. Those are good options to use when booking flights to Europe as well. They will track your flight search and let you know when the prices have decreased and when they think they will increase based on previous market trends.
https://www.google.com/search?biw=1366&bih=637&tbm=isch&sa=1&ei=bXogW96JBPKatgWz2Yz4Cw&q=flight&oq=flight&gs_l=img.3..0l10.46462.47540.0.47832.10.9.0.1.1.0.163.783.2j5.7.0....0...1c.1.64.img..3.7.677.0..0i67k1.0.p_odbSZi588#imgrc=1gVs11Cpy_cgjM:
3) You bought your flight to Europe… now what?
Okay, so you paid for your flight and now you have landed at your destination. Europe has a lot to see so you’re probably not going to stay in one place for your whole trip. If you have a desire to do that, totally cool! I would encourage you to venture out and try some of the following things though.
- Megabus
o Megabus is a bus service that has cheap tickets. They have tickets starting at 1 GBP (Great British Pound) which equates to about $1.34USD. This is mostly based in the UK. However, they have recently started to bring travelers from London to Amsterdam, Brussels and even Paris. It is best to book a month in advance or you may not get these awesome fairs.
- Busabout
o This bus service is ideal for those who are backpacking across Europe. They offer a service in which you can “hop on and hop off” – they make stops at various locations and you can choose when to get on and when to get off. Busabout also offers a flex-pass, in which you can pay about $669USD or $72 a trip to see nine different places. When I first saw that price, I know I was instantly turned off. If you think about the idea that you’re essentially going to nine different destinations for that price, however, it really is a great deal.
- Flixbus
o This service is identical to Megabus but it takes you through all of Europe. They offer free WIFI and plug ins so you can still stay in touch with all of your lads back in the United States. They also allow up to three free bags so if you’re a heavy traveler like me, you’re covered! Their prices start incredibly low at only 5 Euros and like Busabout, they have a pass to five cities for only 99 Euros.
- Budget Airlines
o A couple of my favorite budget airlines ae Easyjet and Ryanair. If you don’t have the time to spend in a bus or on a train, flying on these airlines is a great alternative. Many of the fares range from $25 - $30 USD so you’ll be relieved to pay this amount after booking your flight from the United States to Europe. One thing to look out for is the added fees. Like any airlines, sometimes they have fine printed fees that can definitely add up so look out for those before booking!
- Hitchhiking
o If you’re adventurous, this is a very common trend in Europe. Obviously, use caution while hitch hiking and remember that not everyone has good intentions so go with your gut feeling if you plan to do this. I know it is taboo here in the United States, but in a different country this is accepted and if you feel safe doing it, go for it!
- Wanderu
o Wanderu is a site for bus and train travel and they have fares for as little as $10USD. When you are planning your travel, make sure to check out this site. It is an extremely helpful tool to save you money.

4) Plan in advance
If you’ve read this far, you’ve probably noticed that I mention “book 30 days in advance” or “make sure to plan this out” a couple of times. This is an often times overlooked essential of traveling abroad. I am guilty of living life on a whim and not being very good at making plans. If you want to save money, though, you have to make sure you are planning things out and booking in advance in order to get the right fares. If money isn’t an issue, live your life on a whim and have a good time! If you’re like most college students though, being frugal is engrained in your everyday life and planning your trip down to hours (okay… maybe days is more realistic) is essential to saving money.
https://www.google.com/search?q=plan+in+advance&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwi4tK_pxc_bAhUGSK0KHSkCDPEQ_AUICigB&biw=1366&bih=588#imgrc=V9jT5S0Jwupq3M:
5) Hostels
I’ve said in previous posts, “hostels are your friends”. This still applies! They are the most inexpensive way to stay and will help you meet new people who can likely show you the area.
6) Food
Try to limit your eating out to once a day. Food over in Europe is likely very expensive in the city centers, but if you venture out you may find cheap (and delicious!) eats that will impress both your taste buds and your budget. If you are staying at hostels, shop local and take advantage of the kitchens they supply. Cooking while enjoying a glass or two of local wine with people you have met at these hostels could turn into some of your absolute favorite memories and will help you save money. Plus, you will impress your pals when you come back home and have learned how to make homemade pasta in Italy while they are still cooking their Kraft Mac and Cheese!

7) Tourist Information Booths
You’re a tourist. Most locals will know you’re a tourist. Swallow your pride and go visit these booths when you arrive in a new city. The people working the booth will be happy to help you and they likely also provide brochures and coupons for local museums, restaurants, bikes, buses, etc. This will help put you at ease and make sure that any questions you have get answered to ensure that you have the most amazing time.

8) Do less
Sometimes people think that when they travel abroad they have to see every art museum and every historical landmark. I’m not saying disregard these completely, but sometimes it is okay to do less and just relax. Many European cities have beaches (if you don’t like naked bodies, beware of the plethora of nude beaches) and luxury hostels will likely have pools. Enjoy yourself and spend a day unwinding at these places for free.

Europe is a beautiful place to visit. There is so much to do. So many things to see. The people are overall amazing, and the views are just as breathtaking. Don’t let the idea of not having any money stop you from going to see what you have seen in thousands of pictures in real life. I believe that everyone should step out of their comfort zone and this may be the perfect opportunity for you to learn about yourself and other cultures at the same time. Enjoy and cheers to seeing the world!
