Hey i just saw your tags in the last post and do you mind me asking.. What is the tumblr treatment of pewdiepie? I missed entirely the whole thing and i am really curious, and you seem like a person to know i guess?
Oh i am not the right person to ask at all :D I've just been seeing many posts with many notes about how hes this evil anti-semite because of 'problematic' stuff he did years ago. (Edit: and like really vicious and hateful stuff extended to ppl who like/defend him, not just the rightful “he did a bad thing once”) The biggest thing was he accidentally said the n-word during a live stream in 2017, after which he has apologised numerous times, taken a break, and actually changed his ways. The whole anti-semite thing was largely a product of the wall street journal just having beef with him for some reason and taking lines from his videos out of context?
And like i watched him for years through the worst of it, so I know his side of the story, but since that side is told in multiple long videos, I guess a quick post saying: "famous white guy = neo nazi. lets spew hate to feel better about ourselves, abstaining from including any neuance in this discussion because what he is accused of is Unforgivable" is a far better way to form and enforce an opinion about him...
#i havent seen his more recent videos tbh#and there could be more#but the number of hours of livestreams ive seen of this man have given me enough of an idea about what kind of dude he is#and it angers me that he gets to eat shit just because he doesnt have as much of a filter as most famous people#pewdiepie#pewdiepie discourse#youtube discourse#ask

In an ideal world, calling light to someone’s harmful behaviors wouldn’t result in angry people latching onto it as an excuse to spew hate at the accused. Sadly, this is far from an ideal world, but it’s the harmful behavior and the hateful attacks that are an issue, and not transparency being brought to behaviors that will likely hurt people. Threats, personal attacks, slurs, doxxing, leaking unrelated personal info, suicide baiting, anon hate, lies and slander--these are all absolutely abhorrent. I do not condone them, I do not participate in them, and I do not associate with anyone who I know does. Conflating raising awareness of abusers and holding them and their enablers accountable with these vile actions is at best ignorant, and at worst a malicious attempt to undermine victims and those supporting them. Asking for accountability, genuine apologies, and changed behavior is not an attempt to make someone kill themselves or run them out of any community and I very sincerely hope that these things are not what anyone is referring to with those claims because it could be not further from the truth. “Call outs” can serve a purpose and that is just an objective fact. When someone has a pattern of behaviors so harmful, so long-standing, and that so many people have been burned by, sometimes the most logical thing to do is warn the community at large. Equating any and every “call out,” any time a victim steps forward, any time someone is concerned with something people should be rightfully concerned about with “bullying” and “witch hunts” and “crusades” and “defamation” and imagined criminal activity is dangerous, either accidentally or intentionally. You are undermining victims, you are depriving them of a voice, you are cutting off potential future victims from information that could have helped them dodge the bullet, you are telling past victims of abuse and concerned bystanders that their safety and worries do not matter as much as your discomfort at seeing something unpleasant on your dash or being upset that your friend’s actions had consequences for them. Victims are not hurt just by abusers. They are hurt by enablers. They are hurt by people and systems who turn away from them when they ask for help. They are hurt by people who try to shut them down when they try to speak up. They are hurt when their attempts to reach out are met with insults and attacks. They are hurt when they are slandered to gaslight them, isolate them, and discredit their stories. Acting like it’s only acceptable for victims to be upset with their abusers and not all those who worsened, aided in, prolonged, or complicated their abuse and that no one but the abuser needs to take responsibility, apologize, and re-evaluate their thoughts and actions is absolutely foolish. In most cases of abuse, more than one person dropped the ball. And I do have to wonder, how many people would be able to avoid abuse entirely or escape it more quickly if their abuser did not have help? Crazy, slutty, thirsty, dramatic, confused, petty. These are words used to gaslight victims and make their stories seem less believable. But more than that, these are accusations women face every day in their lives in a society that normalizes this sort of dismissal and degradation of women and their experiences. It’s okay to abstain from judgment until you have seen proof something. Please understand, automatically insinuating a woman is a liar or somehow incorrect or malicious is not abstaining from judgment. You are taking a side, you’re just not taking the one that you think is being expected of you. If you need proof someone is abusive despite multiple testimonies, then why shouldn’t you need proof these women are being disingenuous before jumping to that conclusion? The problem was never waiting for screenshots. The problem was being more eager to tear down victims (especially women) than to listen to them. Politely brushing off women to their faces and then slandering them behind their backs does not create an environment where women feel comfortable divulging details and collecting screenshots for you. It does not create an environment where they feel like they can continue to come to you privately with their concerns and criticisms. It does not make them feel like they can talk to you about their problems. They did try to address things quietly and privately, both times. It didn’t work. How many times must victims talk at a wall before you acknowledge they made an attempt? I could talk more about enabling and censorship and how much more power it grants abusers and strips from victims but tbh that would be a whole tl;dr post of its own. So instead, on some personal notes? I tag my posts “discourse” so that anything controversial, opinionated, sensitive, long-winded, or negative can be blocked by anyone who doesn’t want to see it. Not to proclaim “THIS IS MINE HOLY DISCOURSE, READ IT AND AGREE WITH IT, PEONS” or... whatever exactly is being alleged there. It’s solely for your blacklisting pleasure.
As for hurt feelings? I genuinely mean it when I say it, and I do not feel bad for it and will not apologize for it. If acknowledging enabling as a thing and expecting those responsible to, well, take responsibility hurts your feelings? Good. They deserve to be hurt and I hope you will learn something from it. That is not on me. I am not so insecure or idealistic I expect everyone to like me and everything I say or do. People will disagree, people will even be upset sometimes, that’s life, that’s reality. I’m not going to lose sleep over the fact that “enabling abuse is bad” was too spicy of a take for some people. And I wonder, for all your concern about feelings, did you care about the feelings of the victims of both men? The feelings of those let down by G&G’s officers? Did you care when you personally might have reopened those wounds when you denied their failings, protected them, and praised them? Did you care when the victims were undermined when someone proudly proclaimed that she told Kale off so they could have, too, if they weren’t so pitiful! Or did you give her a pat on the back because she was arguing for your side? Did you care about feelings when someone made a post calling people “sociopaths” and throwing around all kinds of personal insults, or did you applaud it and reblog it because it was an argument in your favor? Did you care about feelings when G&G couldn’t issue an apology without trying again to discredit one of the victims who had come forward? That’s the thing about toxic positivity. All the peace and love and happiness and open-mindedness? It only ever seems to apply when you want it to, when it’s your friend, when it’s something you agree with. Otherwise, it goes out the window, or better yet, it’s just a tool to get your way. “Don’t say that, because it makes me unhappy. Don’t do that, because I think it’s mean.” There’s no thought given to anyone else, their wants, their needs. It becomes nothing more than a means to force your will and control the narrative.
Sometimes in life your friends screw up and they gotta deal with that, and you do, too. Just because someone is good to you doesn’t mean they weren’t bad to someone else. Everyone is capable of both. That doesn’t mean you have to stop being their friend. In those times is when they need your love and support the most. However, love and support isn’t denying their flaws and mistakes and failings. It’s not shielding them from the consequences of their actions. It’s not attacking people who are justly critical of them. It’s not coddling them and making excuses for them. It’s helping them improve, helping them learn things, being honest with them with they’ve screwed up. It’s doing all of that no matter how hard it might be and being there for them despite it.

► ARE YOU SINGLE? ➭ “Isn’t asking that a little too personal...? ... But yeah.” ► ARE YOU HAPPY? ➭ “Isn’t asking that... A little too much...? But sure. Let’s say that I am.” ► ARE YOU ANGRY? ➭ “Sometimes, I guess.” ► ARE YOUR PARENTS STILL MARRIED? ➭ “It’s kinda hard to be married to a dead guy, isn’t it? It’s also, apparently, kinda hard to stay faithful to him for longer than a whole week after the funeral. But uh, short answer: no.”
NINE FACTS.
► BIRTH PLACE ➭ “I was born in Kyoto. I don’t remember all that much about it... It’s been years since I’ve gone back. But I hear that the school might organise a trip at some point next-ish year, maybe? I’d definitely love to go, though. Kyoto really is beautiful.” ► HAIR COLOR ➭ “Brown.” ► EYE COLOR ➭ “Also brown.” ► BIRTHDAY ➭ “October 19th!” ► MOOD ➭ “I mean, depends who’s asking, right?” ► GENDER ➭ “Female.” ► SUMMER OR WINTER ➭ “Summer... I guess? I mean, I’m not crazy about the heat, but I’m not too crazy about the cold, either. I guess that means I don’t really mind either. But, maybe, summer clothes make me feel a little less like I’m a walking marshmallow, so...” ► MORNING OR AFTERNOON ➭ “Afternoon... But I think that could just be because I’m not all that great at getting out of bed in the morning.”
EIGHT QUESTIONS ABOUT YOUR LOVE LIFE.
► ARE YOU IN LOVE? ➭ “Um... I abstain.” ► DO YOU BELIEVE IN LOVE AT FIRST SIGHT? ➭ “Nope. But it sure does sounds nice, doesn’t it? I feel like most things that sound nice tends to not actually end up being all that nice, though. It’s probably not a such a great idea to get too hopeful about that kinda stuff.” ► WHO ENDED YOUR LAST RELATIONSHIP? ➭ “I did. But it’s not like it’d been serious or anything! We were first year middle-schoolers, and the whole thing only lasted like, three days, tops. I kissed him like, once and never tried it again.” ► HAVE YOU EVER BROKEN SOMEONE’S HEART? ➭ “I feel like my ex might’ve said that I’d broken his heart, but I also think he’d definitely been exaggerating. I mean, for real? It’d been three days. And we were in middle school. We’d been first years.” ► ARE YOU AFRAID OF COMMITMENTS? ➭ “I mean... I’m not sure what kind of person you’d have to be to actually answer this with a ‘yes’ and really mean it. Though, doesn’t that also make liars of half of us, at least?” ► HAVE YOU HUGGED SOMEONE WITHIN THE LAST WEEK? ➭ “Koro-chan always gets hugs!” ► HAVE YOU EVER HAD A SECRET ADMIRER? ➭ “... Uh, I get letters in my locker sometimes, I guess...” ► HAVE YOU EVER BROKEN YOUR OWN HEART? ➭ “... Geez, what’s with half of these questions, anyway? Aren’t they a little unfair?”
SIX CHOICES.
► LOVE OR LUST ➭ ... Love, right?” ► LEMONADE OR ICED TEA ➭ “Hmm, I think it’d depend on my mood, really!” ► CATS OR DOGS ➭ “Dogs! And Koro-chan’s the cutest of them all.” ► A FEW BEST FRIENDS OR MANY REGULAR FRIENDS ➭ “... I mean, I’m not sure I really get the question? Sure, I have loads of friends at school, but like... What, you’re really asking me to pick? Out loud? ... Isn’t that kind of rude?” ► WILD NIGHT OUT OR ROMANTIC NIGHT IN ➭ “I think that’d really just depend on the person you spend it with, right?” ► DAY OR NIGHT ➭ “Day, I guess. Maybe a year and a half ago, I would’ve said nights, but uhh... A girl changes her mind, sometimes, and that’s just how it is. ... Honestly, I don’t think I have any real opinion, either way.”
FOUR HAVE YOU EVERS.
► BEEN CAUGHT SNEAKING OUT ➭ “... Yup.” ► FALLEN DOWN/UP THE STAIRS ➭ “Sometimes... You’re trying to escape a bunch of Shadows... And you’re in Tartarus and there are loads of stairs and it’s dark and already kind of hard to see where you’re going... And you’re running and you trip and you fall on your face... And you just have to stand up and tell the idiot Junpei, who actually has the gall to laugh at you when he literally did the same thing a week ago, to shut up and keep running before you feed him to the Shadow that’s still chasing you.” ► WANTED SOMETHING/SOMEONE SO BADLY IT HURT? ➭ “... For the last ten years, I’ve only ever wanted to see my dad again. I’ve never wanted anything as badly as I want this.” ► WANTED TO DISAPPEAR ➭ “Not at all. I’m— I still have things I want to do. There are still things I have to do. I’m not finished, yet.”
FOUR PREFERENCES.
► SMILE OR EYES ➭ “Aw, why can’t it be both?” ► SHORTER OR TALLER ➭ “Taller, I guess?” ► INTELLIGENCE OR ATTRACTION ➭ “What does this even mean? Like, some intelligence is attractive, isn’t it? Like, not being a total idiot is pretty attractive, isn’t it? Unless you’re like, morosexual, I guess. I hear that’s a thing, these days?” ► HOOK-UP OR RELATIONSHIP ➭ “I mean— I don’t think about this stuff much. At all. I promise. But, uh, I’d probably prefer a relationship over a hook-up— but, I also think it depends who with, y’know?”
FAMILY.
► DO YOU AND YOUR FAMILY GET ALONG ➭ “Not really. Well, what’s left of my family, anyway. I used to argue with my mom all the time, but we don’t speak very much anymore. It’s probably been a few years since I’ve actually seen her in person, I think. But... My dad and I used to be pretty close.” ► WOULD YOU SAY YOU HAVE A “MESSED UP LIFE” ➭ “Even if it is a fake, isn’t shooting yourself with a gun like, on the regular, kind of messed up? ... I’m not even going to bother counting all the rest of it.” ► HAVE YOU EVER RAN AWAY FROM HOME ➭ “Yes.” ► HAVE YOU EVER GOTTEN KICKED OUT ➭ “... Yes.”
FRIENDS.
► DO YOU SECRETLY HATE ONE OF YOUR FRIENDS ➭ “Honestly, I secretly don’t hate any of my friends. Yes, I’m still talking about Junpei.” ► DO YOU CONSIDER ALL OF YOUR FRIENDS GOOD FRIENDS ➭ “Yeah, sure. They’re all good friends. I still think this is kind of an awkward question to be answering, out loud.” ► WHO IS YOUR BEST FRIEND ➭ “... It’s probably our leader.” ► WHO KNOWS EVERYTHING ABOUT YOU ➭ “Why answer that? A girl has to keep some secrets, doesn’t she?”

WANTED PLOTS : EVENT 007
hey everyone!! because i’m going to be pretty busy in the next couple of weeks, i decided to (hopefully) make things simpler and write up wanted plots for raafe for this event.
if you see one you’re interested in, hit me up and we can talk about it!! most of these plots can apply to multiple people at once, so don’t be afraid to ask me about a plot if someone is already listed.
what was once cold and calculating gradually melts back to someone with a wider grin. raafe came too close to death in st. petersburg; it won’t happen again. they feel more at home in this city—don’t forget, it is built upon ancient bones. expect them to be slick. expect them to be sly. there is something different about them, although it’s something you can’t place. perhaps they will remake themself again. not a god, but something godless.
wanted plots are below the cut.
you’re all cryptids, there’s no denying. but not all of you need flesh to survive. it’s been days since rafa last had a proper meal, and they’re on the prowl for a new face to wear for the evening. are you a cryptid like them—one who needs flesh and blood to survive?—or will you try and stop them, believing there must be some other way? ( name , name )
have you ever seen a creature so at home in a city made of bones? perhaps you tagged along with raafe because you wanted to keep them from making more mischief (ex: stealing another person’s face), or because you’d like to explore the catacombs with them, or the graveyards. ( malachi , vicente )
there’s something familiar about the face you catch them wearing. you don’t want to ask. it’ll wear off before the performances, they assure you, grinning again. they’re baiting you. they want you to say something. this isn’t a game to you, but it is to them. so? will you take the bait and try and chastise them? ( name , name )
they don’t trust volkov. when the vote is cast, raafe chooses to abstain. whatever gets them out of this fucking cage they’ve found themself in. once the meeting ends, you approach them for a discussion. perhaps you voted to trust volkov, or perhaps you’re of the same opinion that this man is not to be trusted. ( name , name )
they understand the language—just not quite. they seem looser than they have in the last few days (since shangai, since starlight). and they’ve already made their mischief. dressed in a ghoul’s very best, they intend on making the most of paris for tonight, whether it’s going to a fancy restaurant or simply wandering around unfamiliar streets. ( omari , name )

Peep is a hearing aid. It is still getting used to this, because it used to be a regular dragon. And now it is a full-time employed hearing aid dragon, all two inches of it, perched on its sorcerer’s ear.
The sorcerer is named Vigil, which is short for Vigilante. Peep tried to point out to its hapless human that being named after their secret identity is a terrible way of keeping it a secret, but Vigil continues to be named Vigil. (It is ridiculous, in Peep’s eyes, how often its good advice goes ignored.) Vigil’s often-changing gender was another surprise to get used to, since dragons don’t tend to have genders.
“What’s a gender for?” Peep had questioned Vigil on its first day of work as it tried to find the best position to stay hidden behind her ear, while holding onto her piercings for balance.
Vigil hummed thoughtfully before answering, “Decoration, I suppose.”
That might have been a joke, but Peep wasn’t sure.
But being genderfluid was a feature of Vigil, not a problem. No, it was the vigilante thing that was the problem. Every night after the labs had been shut up for the day the other apprentice sorcerers would head off to eat dinner together, or watch some shark jousting at the Oceania, or do other normal activities like flying. Meanwhile, Vigil would murmur a few words under their breath to shield their face with a spell, tuck the lab’s resident firekeeping dragon into their sleeve, and go out to foil evil.
It was a terrible hobby, which Vigil would know if they ever took Peep’s advice.
The root of the problem, Peep had decided, was that Vigil was so caught up with how they could that they never considered whether they should. Yes, Peep’s human was remarkably clever, anyone could see that. Vigil didn’t let the fact that they were only an apprentice sorcerer get in their way— they dyed their hair to look like it had been turned blue by frequent exposure to magic, had Peep sit behind their ear to make the quiet world more understandable, and coaxed the lab’s firekeeping dragon to stay in their sleeve and breathe fire on command. With their face hidden, Vigil passed admirably for a fully grown sorcerer.
But they weren’t one, and that was going to get them in trouble one day if Peep didn’t figure out a way to help them.
“You’re going to get hurt,” Peep informed Vigil as he piled boxes into his arms.
“What are you talking about?” Vigil muttered, balancing the pile with precision. “Nothing in the back room is dangerous.” He sidestepped another apprentice coming into the storage room and emerged behind the counter.
“Not in the back room. You’re going to get hurt while out foiling evil if you keep it up. This woman says thank you and keep the change, and the rude guy next to her is trying to get your attention by snapping.”
Vigil dropped the change into the floating tip jar and turned to the man.
Shifts at the lab’s storefront, where anyone could purchase potion ingredients and charms prepared by the apprentices in the labs, were Peep’s busiest times as a hearing aid. Vigil could hear well enough if it was one well-enunciated person alone speaking, but the chaos of the labs, with everyone talking at once, meant he relied on Peep the most.
“He wants one mud-repelling charm,” Peep reported as the man talked, “and make it quick because he’s an asshole, or because he got mud on his very expensive shoes, something like that.”
Vigil made his thoughtful face while listening, one of the many ways he filled the pauses before he could respond in situations like these. “Sorry, we’re out of those. Can I get you anything else?”
The man did not want anything else.
“He said a bad word at you,” Peep said virtuously, because it considered cursing very terrible unless it was done by someone it approved of.
“I could tell,” Vigil muttered, watching the man storm out.
Peep itself was watching someone else enter the store— a rather short knight-in-training in a very unfashionable cap. Peep considered itself an expert on fashion, as well as on poetry and Vigil’s safety. It was because of its expertise on that latter subject that it noticed the knight-in-training. It watched them go right to the shelves of magical candy on the other side of the room, and approved.
“This little kid at the counter wants ingrediants for a stink potion,” Peep repeated absentmindedly as it mulled over the newcomer, and Vigil went back into the storeroom.
He mumbled the ingredients to himself as he found them on the shelves. “Glass eggs, spider eyes—”
“Gross,” Peep commented. “You need friends.”
“—black-spotted mushrooms. Friends would make this less gross how?”
“They wouldn’t. But they might keep you out of trouble.”
“And that’s exactly why I don’t need any. I like trouble.” Vigil went back to the counter and put the ingredients in the girl’s basket.
Peep took the opportunity to notice the knight-in-training again (they were still examining the candies) before turning back to its duties as a hearing aid.“She says thanks, and also that you need friends.”
“Quit it,” Vigil hissed, and greeted a regular customer who signed their request for a fever-reducing charm.
Peep quitted it for all of ten seconds before Vigil was searching the dusty back corners where the healing charms were stored. “You’re only a baby sorcerer, you can’t go around foiling evil all by yourself. Eventually evil will foil back.”
Vigil objected strongly to being called a baby sorcerer. “I hired a hearing aid, not a babysitter.”
“Wrong,” shouted Peep, who loved being right. “You hired a dragon, and a dragon always knows best.”
“Dragons also always live with several nest-mates, which you don’t have, so you’re one to talk about needing friends.” Vigil snatched a fever charm from where it had fallen on the floor with more violence than necessary and straightened up. There was a guilty pause. Dragons are excellent at telling when pauses are guilty. “I mean...” Vigil said quietly.
“Everyone needs friends,” Peep said, trying not to sound like it was going to cry. Unfortunately, dragons are as terrible at not sounding emotional as they are excellent at discerning guilty pauses.
Vigil stroked the tiny ridges of Peep’s back with one finger. “Hey, I didn’t mean that.” His voice was soft.
“I could have nest-mates if I wanted,” Peep said, still sniffling. Dragons’ lying abilities fall squarely between their skills at recognizing guilty pauses and not sounding emotional.
“Of course you could,” Vigil soothed. “You’re the best dragon I know.”
“Including Crackle?” Peep asked, wanting to be sure. “Crackle isn’t even that great of a firekeeper. I’m much better at being a hearing aid than it is at making fire.” Crackle had three nest-mates and its very own nesting hallow in the chimney over the lab’s fireplace, and was very conceited about it in Peep’s opinion.
Vigil abstained from passing judgement on Crackle. “You’re the best hearing aid a sorcerer could have. I’m sorry for what I said.”
Peep blew its nose on a lock of blue hair. “Ok.”
Vigil winced but didn’t comment on that. At the counter he gave the customer the fever charm and they exchanged a few words in sign language that Peep didn’t need to aid in, giving it time to search the room again for the knight-in-training, who was now carrying over a jar of blue candies to purchase. They looked at the apprentices behind the counter, all busy— and their eyes slid right over Vigil’s face without recognition.
Peep frowned to itself. They would never recognize Vigil as the hero who had saved them the other night on their own, not when Vigil had hid his face so well. Clearly, Peep had to intervene, for Vigil’s own good.
Pushing Vigil’s hair aside, Peep stretched itself out as far as it could without falling off his ear, and flapped its green wings urgently. The knight-in-training, not looking, didn’t notice. Humans were oblivious.
Peep flapped its wings some more, and puffed out some violet smoke. On the other side of the counter, the knight-in-training’s eyes flicked to the fading puff of violet in surprise, and followed it down to the tiny green dragon preening with victory, and then to the sorcerer it was perched on.
“You!” Kit shouted.
Peep quickly returned to its hearing aid position. “That knight person over there says ‘you!’ very loudly,” it told Vigil.
“Fuck,” Vigil whispered, trying to avoid the knight’s glare. “That’s the squire I helped the other night! How did they recognize me?”
“Big mystery,” Peep said unhelpfully.
The knight-in-training pushed their way closer to Vigil’s section of the counter, not to be ignored.“You’re that vigilante!”
“They say you’re a vigilante, and probably good friend material.” Peep gave the knight-in-training a wave. They waved back.
Vigil batted at his ear. “Stop that, stop being friendly! I’m a masked vigilante, people aren’t supposed to know who I am.”
The knight-in-training raised an eyebrow, looking at Vigil’s name tag. “In that case, why is your name literally the first half of the word vigilante? Doesn’t seem very masked to me.”
Peep crowed victoriously. “New friend! Can we keep them?”
the other stories about these characters can be found in my tag here. thanks for reading!

I’m pulling this out here because tumblr post/reply structure sucks.
@lazaruspithottub
Karamel fans. Every time one of you makes a post, for example, ‘calling out the Superkarps/Supercorpses’ you invade our (the Supercorpers) and my safe space.
According to the person who made the post, the post was appropriately labelled with the anti tag. The anti tag is where a person is supposed to post their anti thoughts.
Just look at things like tagged melwood, tagged mon-el or tagged karamel how long you have to search for a person who intentionally mislabeled their post.
Now I personally have some sympathy for people who use “neutral” tags. Like if you write “I hate Supergirl” and then tag it Supergirl, since after all Supergirl is what you are talking about. But there is a long history of Karamel fans intentionally tagging obscure things (like “mon-el defense squad” or “karamel soda club”) just so they would be left in peace from people who accidentally mistagged them and people went OUT OF THEIR WAY to mistag stuff that you would NEVER tag like that by accident. This is something done for the sole reason to be spiteful.
We even have people writing hatefic on AO3 and not just tagging it not just with the descriptor (Kara Davners/Mon-El), but also the shipname karamel. So not only are some of your people so hateful that they write hatefic for their own characters they also intentionally mistag it shipper stuff just to be mean spirited.
the majority who are desperately trying here should have some peace for goodness sake.
I assure you a great number of Karamel fans feel the same way.
I see maybe one that actually deserves it
Have you considered that that might be because you don’t spend time in the karamel tags?
I have never engaged in the hate that you are supposedly ‘calling out’, nor do the vast majority of Supercorp fans.
I hope you remember this point.
And before someone attacks me for ‘being a hipocrite and invading the Karamel tag’, it is not the same.
You are judging all karamel fans, but at the same time you ask for not all Kara/Lena fans to be judged the same. You presuppose what Karamel fans are and what they are like and you based on this decide that YOU deserve protection, but others don’t deserve protection and instead deserve to be mistreated.
And this is a fucking dangerous mindset. That you think that you have the right to decide that others deserve to be mistreated, deserve to have their tag invaded, deserve to be punished for the actions of others.
Something that you precisely argue against.
What do you know about the lives of Karamel shippers and whether or not they are in need of a safe space?
But I’m not even asking for special consideration or anything like that
You are absolutely doing that when you say that you invading the karamel tag is not the same as karamel invading the Kara/Lena tag.Which is precisely you saying that you have the special right to invade other tags and that is okay, but when others do it is bad (I think shitty behavior regardless of who does it).
Once more, invasion supposedly didn’t happen in the post you talked about, which supposedly was correctly tagged with the ANTI tag. Unlike the the anti posts that show up in the karamel tags. Which again means not only people deliberately writing stuff about things they hate, but also going out of their way to mistag it just to be hateful.
Compared to people who at least have the decency to tag their anti thoughts with the anti tag. If people according to you aren’t even allowed to voice their thoughts in the anti tag, what are you saying other than people are not allowed to dislike anything you like?
I’m only asking for a bit of: understanding, thought, self control and basic human decency to come back into the equation.
Again, I’m pretty sure many karamel fans feel exactly the same way. The question is: are you willing to apply the same standards when somebody from your side of the aisle does it? Are you willing to call them out and demand they exercise self control and basic human decency to NOT purposefully mislabel their stuff with elaborate would-never-name-anything-like-that-by-accident tags or even create fake love blogs just to troll karamel fans? All crazy shit that has totally happened in the fandom?
I’m very much for human decency in the fandom (though based on various interactions inside and outside of fandom, I don’t have high hopes for it), but once more, are you willing to apply the same standards to your side? Or are you genuinely saying “the other side” should apply standards of human decency, but what does it say about your side that you think that asking for basic human decency is just way too much to ask for your side? Because to me that makes your side look like at worst disturbed, horrible people who want to wallow in their evilness or at best people who really should seek professional help for their emotional problems if they are not capable of basic human decency anymore.
Karamel fans. You have it all.
You don’t know us. You presume to know everything about every single one of us to presume that there is not a single person among us with a genuine need or claim to a safe space. You presume that you know exactly what we are all like and based on this pass the judgement that unlike you we deserve to be abused by your side.
Why? Just because our couple was affectionate with each other on screen? That is supposed to mean that no karamel fan can serious life problems or just as much be part of a minority?
And that’s the thing about human decency. It applies to humans. In general.
Finally, many of the people you are attacking in these broad sweeps are some of the kindest, sweetest, most badass, most awesome, but also the most vulnerable and wronged people you will ever meet.
I could say the same thing of many karamel fans. And you don’t care just because, I don’t know, the fact that they like a couple that kissed on screen must mean that it’s okay to abuse them? Because liking a couple that is canon means that you are not deserving of human decency?
Welcome to how it feels every second of every day for a person who ships two women and then gets shamed for it by strangers on the internet, just because of the actions of a couple of people, and just because they are two women — instead of a woman and a man.
People suck. But people get called out for bad and hateful behavior and also for standing silent on bad behavior. As they should. Just because you ship a woman with a woman doesn’t mean that bad behavior is okay. Just like it’s not okay if you ship a man with a woman. (just like I think it is unfair if people get attacked just because they ship something that is “in the way” of another person’s preferred ship)
But how can you genuinely look at this situation and surmise that this means it’s okay to invade the other tag, just based on things you suppose about them. You talk about how it’s not okay that you are judged by the actions of others, but you are more than ready to judge based on what you assume. You wholesale decided that nobody in the karamel fandom could possibly have a genuine need for a safe space.
I say, bad behavior is bad behavior and it deserves to be talked about if there is hope that it might change.
For the record: I don’t like tag invasion. I think tumblr often overdoes it, especially when people fight over “neutral” tags and I think it can get very eyerollworthy the way people. Still, I think it is tacky at the very least.
I personally also dislike it when people in a ship obsess over “the other side”. I’m just not a fan. I think people should try to focus on the good in their ship and trying to make their ship fandom the best it can be, by being supportive of each other. Praise your ship, love your ship, give each other support, write fic, make arts, make videos, run contests, write metas, leave comments, leave likes, make recs. Be the change you want to see in the world, but for the good of the world. Show that your ship brings out the good in people. (I also don’t like the name calling/making fun of other shipper names, regardless of whether it is done by or against my fangroup, it’s catty when the other side does it, it’s just the same when you do it)
I think spending too much time obsessing over the other side is genuinely harmful for the soul and people should try to abstain from it for their own sake at the very least.
I think “they started it” thinking is deeply harmful on like a million on levels, since that’s exactly how myriads of real life like “actually people get blown to bits” conflicts start off.
@calliopesmuse
I genuinely don’t understand how you think that talking to people privately is a reasonable alternative.
1.) A lot of what happens isn’t accidental misstagging. It’s people going out of their way to mistag or even create fake troll blogs. Things that take effort.
2.) Have you seen how many people misstag in the karamel tag? Trying to talk to each and every one of them would take ages.
3.) Talking to people privately is not exactly what I would call efficient. I might see it an contact the person, and three other people might also without realizing that person in question has already been informed. Not to mention there’s a lot of places where non-public debate can get a lot more personal and ugly than if it is done in public where everybody can see how people are behaving.
Ideally it is BEHAVIOR that should be called out, not people.
4.) The advantage of calling out types of behavior in public is precisely that third parties can see it and learn from it. A lot of the time when a person does mean spirited things, the chance that they personally will change their opinion is pretty low. But maybe onlookers will see it and see for themselves that they don’t want to be like that person or they now understand why others have a problem with that behavior.
For the record, I’m not actually 100% down with name and shame either (even if it is on a non real life name environment like tumblr) and I see a lot of problems with it (I personally prefer posts discussing behavior in general, if possible without naming names, even though I see how sometimes concrete examples might be necessary if some people just don’t believe it), so I don’t wholesale support it either. But I think it’s still very much more of a reasonable approach than hand contacting large swaths of antagonistic people privately. (it should be noted: if you are blocked and hence don’t see your post, that also means you can’t contact them privately. At least if it is public, maybe there is a chance that it will turn into a fannish debate and they will at least notice that there is a debate going on via the other people they are following; not to mention, if a person engaged in this behavior there is a good chance that they have already decided that “the other side” is the enemy and so if we told them they were acting abhorrent it doesn’t mean nearly as much as if somebody from their own side is telling them that; because their own side, there is a higher chance that those are the people who matter to them, the people whose gifs they reblog, whose meta they read, whose fic they love, that’s why it’s important for anybody who is genuinely interested in human decency in fandom that people should call out their own peeps).
@puppiestay
I really hope you reported that person who sent you that kind of hate messages. I don’t know what the youtube policy on it is, but I’m very glad that tumblr put it into their tos that “suicide baiting” is being treated no different from threats of violence.
I take part in a lot of politic debates online and it’s just shameful how sentences like that (or like the ever popular I wish you would get raped/murdered that a lot of feminists get online) are used to circumvent rules about threatening direct bodily harm on people.
I really dislike it when some shippers, including the occasional karamel shipper doesn’t seem to get it that some people ship non canon and in the end, that’s also just a different flavor. Some people only ship what is canon or close to canon and other people don’t either by choice or not, but that doesn’t make them inherently weird or inferior anymore than let’s say somebody who doesn’t listen to pop music.
