Started rewatching Natsume Yuujinchou, a bit of Detective Conan, the new season of Kuroshitsuji. Also Star Trek and rewatch of Guardian, but gotta coordinate those with my house mates. Not enough time in the day to watch so much after coming home from work (also ST:TOS kinda sucks in my opinion?? I'm not done with the first season yet but the writing is atrocious in some episodes - if it weren't for wanting to see S2 Ep1 I would prob not keep watching lmao)

(So that was quite the chapter lol. While I love the beginning of EP1, the pacing in it is definitely on the slower end, especially towards the beginning. It gets much quicker as evidenced by Kanon and Kinzo both dying in this one chapter. rip kanon he died in a weird way that was never adequately defined by the narrative but at least he died as not-furniture. kanon nation we get this one W at least.

and yeah the sudden speedup totally threw me off guard. i was honestly convinced the whole story was gonna be at this steady drip-feed rhythm so to hit the second twilight then go through two more twilights in rapidfire succession feels like i stepped wrong and now i'm hurtling along a rollercoaster i didn't even know i was on lmao. i'll try my best to sort this all out and figure out what i can! i'm happy you're enjoying watching me continually lose my mind like this! <3

Hi! What are your thoughts on the first two Domina episodes?

i'm liking the season so far! it's bringing ALL the messy drama and beautiful costumes that i loved in s1, and i love that it feels like even more of an ensemble show now that the kids are older and we're getting to see more of them, especially marcella and the antonias who were mostly background characters in s1. the downside is that there isn't enough time for every character - my beloved julia was barely in these two episodes, but hopefully she'll have time to shine later in the season.

my beloved iullus continues to be rome's #1 himbo and i love that for him and for julia and for me <3 my beloved octavia continues to slay every scene she's in, and i feel like this season has been more equitable in the julian vs. claudian conflict, which makes me happy. my impression in s1 was that they were trying to sell livia as our righteous girlboss heroine whose detractors are all villainous, and correspondingly livia's kids as victims and octavia's as bullies, whereas this season shows livia in a more neutral light and offers a lot of sympathy to the victims of her ambitions (octavia's grief for marcellus, gemina's whole storyline). i think that since last season ended with livia's moral tipping point (killing marcellus), that naturally allows the narrative in this season to acknowledge and lean into her moral ambiguity and to really question whether her ends justify her means, which is great. of course, it could just be that i was in a different frame of mind when i watched s1 several years ago rather than an actual change in the show, so take this point of comparison with a grain of salt!

speaking of gemina, so far i quite like that storyline! i was expecting her to be treated by the narrative as an object in the way of livia's goals and for us to never see her again after she was sold in ep1, so i was very pleasantly surprised when she cropped up again and when ep2 focused on her emotions rather than just making her a sexy lamp for augustus to fuck. our elite protagonists talk a big game about Rome and The Republic but don't actually give a shit about the people who live there, and gemina's storyline is a good way to counteract the propaganda the main characters spout and to show how lower classes and conquered peoples are harmed by the roman elite. i'm really intrigued to see where her storyline goes, especially now that scribonia is involved, but i remember that (imo) s1 had an appalling lack of empathy for scribonia's shitty treatment by augustus and just painted her as a high school mean girl, so i'm also a little nervous to see what they do with this duo lmao

marcella is also a high school mean girl so far, which is disappointing but not surprising given her few scenes in s1. i would love for them to allow her more depth later on, but i'm not sure how likely that is (and, i mean, fair play if they want to show that the richest kids in rome are plain ol spoiled brats and there's nothing deeper to it haha). i guess that's how i'd sum up my main problem with s1, that it fell into the trap of pitting women against each other in a patriarchal society where men are the ones oppressing them. s2 does this too, but so far it's been in a way that seems more self-aware and seems to be putting the blame more on the patriarchy than on the women fighting and hurting each other for power (livia's rant to antonia about being a woman in rome comes to mind), so we will see!

oh, the last thing i wanted to mention is how funny this show is at times! i really love when period dramas let themselves be funny rather than taking themselves super seriously all the time and acting like people in ye olden days never swore or made jokes.

look, it’s enjoyable. i think the actors are great, and theyre certainly really talented. i think addy and bronwyn are the best adapted, though even then they have some moments that make me think “wtf” like bronwyn stealing the laptop, and jake not being half as aggressive as he’s supposed to be

i like cooper’s storyline with his family & keely, although it’s obviously completely different from the books & takes away from how totally closeted he was there. i’m really torn, i like his character, but i like him as like, someone completely different from book!cooper, because i feel like apart from baseball, they barely have anything in common? cooper doesn’t lie to kris, he wouldn’t approach nate for drugs, he wouldn’t get aggressive with him either, and the closest he ever gets to accusing anyone is saying that peanut oil is a “weird kind of coincidence”. i knew it would be different but it’s very, very different. i guess i just have to get used to it? also kris is just not even close to being the same i mean he’s not a model, he’s not german, he doesn’t know about keely?? cooper says in the book that kris would “never force him to come out” or make him feel bad about it, but it’s like the first thing we see kris do. which is understandable in his situation, don’t get me wrong, but it’s just not at all what he’s like in the books

maeve’s storyline is,, a decision and i don’t understand why she would be friends with simon when her whole entire thing in the book is being grossed out by him

OKAY so concludingly, let me be clear, i do LIKE it. i think it’s fun and it’s interesting and the actors are great. obviously i’m being hypercritical in this bc i’m comparing it to the books. thats not to say there isn’t things i liked bc there definitely definitely is! but i’m also now looking at it as something completely separate from oouil bc apart from the primary plot points, there’s basically nothing in common

The writers had no idea how to end a series that they should have ended seasons ago, but kept getting directed to Keep Going because it was profitable. They came up with a contrived, bullshit ending that even Touched By An Angel would have felt shame airing because it was just Bad.

You’ll notice that there’s a huge history of misogyny in the show. 

The sheer amount of ladies that only appear to die and become man-pain for the Winchester bros is a little sad. It didn’t pass the Bechdel test until S5, and ONLY bc a mother and daughter had a little Goodbye scene before they exploded...

As some have pointed out, there was a whole romance for Sam in that last season, but during the world’s worst montage (with increasingly bad wigs), we never got to see the woman’s face. The person he married and had kids with. She was a blonde blur. 

Like, if you put that much effort into building a new romance for a lead, at least show them together in your shitty montage or what was the point.

As some very funny people have pointed out... they were so against women having a long-running character or screen time... that they accidentally ended up with a canon pairing between two dudes. They queerbaited for seasons on seasons then tried to pull a No Homo through the world’s fastest bury your gays trope i think most of us have ever seen lmao.

The show was fun in Seasons 1 and 2, but it got out of hand because they went for overarching themes of fighting demons and god, etc. Castiel is a great character and I love him, but they could have closed it off at S5.

As some have pointed out, if you watched S1 ep1 and then the final ep of S15... it would read as a continuity. Nothing changed.

I can't sleep so I'm re-watching Avatar the Last Airbender and documenting all my favorite side characters and plots. This is just a appreciation post I started at 3 am. And got a bit judgey on in the beginning lmao.

S1 Ep1-3 My only criticism is that some of the dialogue is awkward as well as some weird voice acting here and there. Although from what I remember it gets better in the other seasons.

One of my favorite things about the beginning is the switch between Aang's and Zuko's perspectives. Usually the antagonist doesn't get character development without the hero being on screen with them. Nor do we get to see side plots focused solely on the antagonist. Most franchises "villains" only progress when the hero's there, and rarely shows the villains with alone, never their journey and struggles. 10/10 just for that. (Or at least I believe this is what made me feel odd about how they treated Zuko, and early on too).

Although I hate how all the characters are very stereotypical? Like Aang is (100 &-)twelve years old and the first thing he does after being awaken from a century long nap is ask to go penguin sledding? Really? No, "where am I?" Or Zuko's a better example, in these three episodes alone we already have an idea of his backstory, motives, and family dynamic (daddy issues-) Again, from what I remember the other seasons get much better with this.

Also I love how shitty of a person Sokka is,and he gets called out for it. My absolute favorite favorite favorite part is Katara calling him sexist in EP.1 (And later seen in ep3) And I love how part of his stereotypical gender role mindset is getting criticized from the beginning. Good character development, and so soon too.

s1 ep3 just met foaming at the mouth guy in the lady warrior village, people always remember cabbage guy than foaming mouth guy for some reason. After watching the entire episode, honestly no wonder I'm so full of love for women. I mean, look at them!

"The Warriors of Kyoshi."

It made me remember the love interests Sokka has through out the series.,, he didn't deserve the warriors. Not then anyway. He was a wuss and crybaby, and Katara called him out for being sexist in EP 1. (Love that, had to be mentioned again.) And also love when the warriors were all making fun of Sokka, the next day he apologizes and asks to learn from them. Good character development,and as early as episode 3.

S1 ep 4 Aang, Katara, and Sokka enter the Earth Kingdom. I remember the cabbage man-

-which everyone does but everyone's also sleeping on many other amazing, unique characters. Including one of my top favorite characters,

King Bumi.

A funny, old man, who loves to surprise and fool people. Especially loves it when people under estimate him due to his age. He tricks Aang into completing a bunch of crazy tasks as a joke just to end it and say, "now all you have to do is guess my name" They then re- membered each other and have a good ride through the city in,, unorthodox transport... (I wish I had a gif)

What an absolute fucking mad lad.

S1 Ep9

Iroh is already comfortably retired (he's buying bargain shit in the markets and a horn for game night on the ship, his words) and yet watches over Zuko, who's entire life's meaning is to find and capture the Avatar at any cost... Honestly my favorite duo. The main group get captured by Zuko, Iroh, and some pirates they teamed up with...

Katara: This is all my fault.

Aang: No, it isn't.

Iroh: Yeah, it kinda is.

Zuko's uncle, General Iroh, is another one of my top favorites. I'm talking top 3. He's laid back, funny, old, badass, retired general, and watches out for his grandson.

Just 4 episodes in and he's already one of the most quotable characters. My favorite thing about Iroh, other than being one of the most funniest and laid back characters, is that he continues to try to lead Zuko down a different path by subtly encouraging him to take a break. He's the only good parental figure Zuko has rn, and he's the best uncle. 10/1O Uncle for stepping up to get this emotional baggage.

Looking back at this you can already tell what type of characters I like, anyone that makes me laugh, laid back, and secretly strong. Whew.

Anyway I'm done, I was gonna do a second part buuut I got bored. ADHD and all.

My Dream the Series - Episode 2 

I didn’t say much about Ep1 because there wasn’t much happening, and I wanted to wait for Ep2 and some more context. Overall you may noticed that I SCREAM about the vibe of the series (very pastel, very soft) and the man in the turtleneck (definitly Mamoru-vibes), the lesbians we may or not may get and Tanai x Guide because cute puppys being cute.

I was excited for Dream, because I hoped he would be as hilarious as his outfit, but I have to be honest and say, that I am not much of a fan of his storyline & person thus far? He met Runway when Runway was a kid and Dream doesn’t age? He wanted him to grow up fast and now that he has the right age Runway is ready to harvest? 

Hilarious was his jealous fit. Boy, don’t complain if you never told the other half of your feelings? And DON’T DO THIS SHIT WITH PINNING SOMEONE ON THE BED!! That is not sexy! I mean, if the other person is okay with it, by all means proceed, but NOT THIS WAY!!

I totally get now where the TaiWay shippers come frome, because Tai is way more gentle and honest with Runway. At least he told him how he felt. 

I like Runways relationship with his mother. I would find it interesting and important to know if she is depressed and how they would deal with this kind of storyline, or if she hides some secret regarding Runway and the death of her husband. 

Good and Guides relationship is one of my favourites in the series. Yeah, I have Tin (LBC) and the story with his brother in mind while I write this, but it is refreshing seeing a sibling relationship without the big jealousy or betrayal. I hope they continue that way and we will see more brother/brother talks.

And I just have do add that I really, really like Good! I don’t like his glasses btw I am not sure why they disturb me so much but they can go lmao. His gentleness and caring nature was a real highlight for me. He acts like a true doctor (and this is a BL drama people, so don’t complain that he didn’t bring the person to the hospital lol)

THEY ARE THE SAME PERSON!!!!! LOL I AM WHEEZING... omg this was hilarious!! I like it so much. Yes it is Ranma style but LOL  I think this is really, really interesing and I can’t wait what they do with this!!

I am already tired of the upcoming Tai x Runway x Guide drama but if it get’s me more Tanai I am not complaining. Look at this cute puppy and his guitar *-*

All in all another slow paced episode, which to be honest I have nothing against, if they don’t rush at the later episodes. I like the slow vibe, it matches the overall dreamy tone the series is setting.
