It was a dark and stormy night…
Okay, so maybe just dark and cloudy. Or… maybe just cloudy. The author could shut up, Virgil just wanted to make this edgier than it was.
He was feeling on edge right now- Virgil and Roman had just been making tortellini soup on the bright white stove in Virgil's tiny apartment. Oh, sorry, Virgil had been making tortellini soup on the bright white stove in Virgil's tiny apartment; Roman was apparently avoiding that task.
Virgil's boyfriend was hiding by the refrigerator and away from the soup, looking down at his phone with an unreadable look on his face and one earbud loosely hanging in his ear. Virgil bit the inside of his bottom lip as he watched Roman, uncertainty running through his body. What was he up to now? He had been so focused on Roman that he forgot about the soup- and now the once-simmering pot of hot liquid was boiling, squirting large droplets of soup everywhere.
Virgil made a noise of alarm as he turned the burner down to low quickly. However, it was too late to stop some of the soup from bubbling up and landing on Virgil's hand, drawing a hiss from the emo.
This seemed to draw Roman's attention. Virgil ran over to the sink (he didn't have to run far) and was running cold water over his hand when he felt a pair of familiar arms wrap around his waist. Virgil shut off the faucet and turned to reach for the towel, but he couldn't move in, let alone escape from Roman's grasp.
"Roman, stop," Virgil whined half-heartedly, his usual source of spite being overcome by the pleasant feeling of his boyfriend's strong arms.
Roman made a humming noise but he absolutely did not stop as he moved his head down from the back of Virgil's to the crook of the other man's neck.
Virgil let out a small shameful noise when Roman started gently kissing the spot-- that evil prince, exploiting his weaknesses. How dare he.
"Roman, I gotta finish the soup," Virgil said after gathering his breath again.
Roman moved his head up towards Virgil's ear, his lips guiding the way with small kisses. Roman then stopped, drawing his head away slowly, and spoke into Virgil's ear. Normally Virgil would have shuddered with delight at something like that, but the sound of a nearly perfect knock-off Gollum voice impression caused him to freeze up instead. "Roman is terribly sorry for not helping with the munches and crunches," said the voice in Virgil's ear, "He deserves smackings and whackings on his poor little head.”
If Virgil thought his weaknesses were being exploited before, well, they were being full-on manipulated now. It didn't help that right then Roman laughed, and oh my goodness Virgil loved him.
How could he not? His boyfriend had just done an impression of Gurgi from The Black Cauldron, his favorite movie, while they ""made"" their first homemade meal ""together"". But let's be honest, if this is why Roman had been avoiding the task, Virgil could forgive him.
Roman's mouth had started again it's escapade of kisses, and Virgil wasn't able to resist any longer.  "I love you," Virgil said breathlessly, but it still wasn't enough. "I love you. I love you so much," he said again, closing his eyes and letting the words sink in.
Virgil felt Roman's sharp breath on his neck, and immediately froze up in alarm. Oh no, did he do something wrong? He shouldn't have confessed, that was a terrible idea, why would he think-
All thoughts were suddenly erased from Virgil's mind when he realized Roman was speaking back. "I love you too," came Roman's sweet, beautiful voice, talking to him. Oh, he was talking to him. "God, I love you."
Roman's grip had loosened in that moment, and Virgil quickly leaned over to dry off his still-wet hands with the towel (wow, who's exploiting weaknesses now, Virgil) before turning around in Roman's arms and kissing him fiercely. And they kissed and kissed and kissed until they couldn't kiss anymore. Well, at least until the timer for the soup went off. They could probably have kissed a little longer.
Virgil reached over and stopped the beeping timer, not daring to leave Roman's embrace.
"You have no idea how long I've wanted to say that," Roman said with a small laugh. "It's a little scary, actually."
Virgil looked up at his love with a confused and far more fond expression than he would have liked. "Why didn't you say it then?"
"I just… wanted to ease you into it, make sure you were ready," Roman replied a little nervously.
Virgil had to kiss him one more time, because this outgoing, extra man who wore his heart out on his sleeve he had done more for him than fucking parents had, (that's a joke, smh), and Virgil had never loved a person more. He knew, he always knew, and it would never cease to make Virgil swoon.
He pulled away one last time--or so the author thought--and the two took a moment to stare into each other's eyes. "Thank you," Virgil whispered, leaning against his boyfriend.
Roman smiled, lifting a hand to run it through the emo's purple hair. "Of course, love," he said softly, and if Virgil wasn't dead and in heaven already then he must be now. "So…" he started eventually, "should we finish up that soup?"
Virgil let out a small laugh. "Okay," he said, and he knew that this was a night he would never regret.
