So Kishimoto has talked about how he referenced Raimi's Spider-man movies in the Naruto manga and we all realized he was talking about the iconic upside down kiss that inspired the panel of Sasuke looking at Naruto under the rain

If you've read Naruto and watched Raimi's Spider-man trilogy then you would not be surprised that Kishimoto likes PeterMJ, after all Raimi used several romantic tropes that Kishimoto also likes and implemented in his own work.

So I've decided to make this post drawing the similarities between both couples.

Both relationships are the core of their respective stories. Kishimoto states that without Sasuke there is no Naruto, and the story would be over in ten chapters. In Raimi's Spider-man, the first thing Peter Parker tells us is that his story revolves around a girl, Mary Jane Watson.

2. Compassion for the outcast: Both Naruto and Peter Parker start their series as outcast losers who are made fun of by their peers and subjected to their cruelty. Mary Jane is the first person we see show compassion towards Peter with no ulterior motive; she demands for the bus to stop after Peter had been chasing them for blocks begging them to stop. Similarly, Sasuke is also the first person (as in a peer, not a father figure) in the manga to show compassion to Naruto; their team had been ordered to not share food with Naruto after he broke some rules of a test, otherwise they'd be all failed and their careers as ninjas would end. Sasuke didn't care about this and still fed him anyway after seeing how hungry he was.

3. Both MJ and Sasuke are Peter and Naruto's driving forces. In the spider-man movie when Aunt May is at the hospital, Peter and MJ share a very heartfelt conversation where Peter says the following:

The great thing about Mj is… when you look in her eyes and she’s looking back in yours everything feels not quite normal because you feel stronger and weaker at the same time, you feel excited and at the same time terrified. The truth is you don’t know what you feel except you know what kind of man you wanna be, is if you’ve reached the unreachable and you weren’t ready for it.

In Naruto ch. 319 we see Naruto training a new technique but failing during the day. Then, at night he sees a shooting star, takes his hand to his heart and thinks about Sasuke, that's when he decides to get up and continue training all night, the next day he's finally been succesful in his new technique and Kakashi acknowledges his driving force is Sasuke. Sasuke inspires and moves Naruto to become the ninja he wants to be.

Other examples of MJ and Sasuke being the driving forces of the MC are in Spider-man 2 Peter loses his powers when he thinks Mary Jane no longer loves him and wants nothing to do with him, but after she asks him to meet him in a café and confesses she wants to kiss him because she believes she still loves him, he regains his powers immediately and is able to detect with his re-gained spidersense Doc Ock has just thrown a car at them.

And in Naruto's ch. 647-648 we see a defeated and exhausted Naruto losing hope on winning the war they're fighting, then Sasuke jumps in and without needing to give a grand speech and simply saying "That's all you got? I'm just getting started" is able to move Naruto and encourage him to keep fighting to the point when Naruto shares his chakra with everybody else they all see his thoughts and sense his feelings on how important Sasuke is for him.

Hehe Naruto is crazy for Sasuke. This is such an insane thing to do lmfao.

4. Going berserk for their loved ones. In the first Spider-man movie Peter is being defeated by the Green Goblin and he tells Peter: "Had you not been so selfish, you're little girlfriend's death would've been quick and painless but now that you've really pissed me off I'm gonna finish her nice and slow. MJ and I... we're gonna have a hell of a time". After this, Peter Parker became furious and almost beat the Green Goblin to death. Then, in Spider-man 2, Doc Ock attacks Peter and MJ then tells Peter to find Spider-man otherwise he'll peel the flesh off MJ's bones, Peter Parker who had lost his powers, once again becomes furious.

In Naruto's case, in ch. 27 we see how Haku almost kills Sasuke but Naruto believed he had managed to kill him so for the first time in his life, he unleashes the Kyuubi powers and almost kills Haku. Then again, in ch. 291 Naruto unleashes 4 tails of the kyuubi after Orochimaru calls Sasuke "My Sasuke-kun".

5. Miscommunication between the main character and their loved one. Throughout the Spider-Man trilogy we see Peter and MJ struggle to communicate with each other. Peter in particular, is unable to tell Mary Jane he loves her because he's also Spider-man and he believes that'd put her in danger, but he never explains to MJ the situation so she's left not knowing if Peter loves her for certain or not and she also doesn't understand all this back and forth he puts her through.

Kishimoto is a sucker for the miscommunication trope, he loves that shit and in his manga that's basically what's moving the plot forward. Throughout the entire manga Naruto is discovering what his true feelings for Sasuke are but he's never truly clear whenever he tries to explain them to Sasuke, hence why the latter is constantly asking Naruto why is he doing everything he does for him, basically going "what are we?" lol

BnHA Chapter 409: Bro I’m Straight Up Having a Good Time

Previously on BnHA: AFO murdered his brother like the mischievous knave he is. Bruce was all, “hey Kudou don’t look now but I think Yoichi might have given you his secret quirk that we didn’t know he had.” Kudou was all, “damn that’s wild, it almost feels like this is a pivotal moment that will change all our destinies forever, you’d think Horikoshi would have spent just a little more time elaborating on this but I GUESS NOT.” Back in the present day, AFO was all, “I’m just going to use all my quirks at once because fuck this kid,” and Katsuki was all, “lol oh shit.”

Today on BnHA: Kacchan is all, “okay, I know I should be hopelessly outclassed, but hear me out: what if I just win anyway. What if I just go ahead and blow his shit up, because this is the final battle, and this is what all of my character development has been building up to since day one. What if I just beat him, because I’m the guy who wins. Simple as that. What if I just kick his ass with my one quirk, and prove all the haters wrong.” Horikoshi is all, “okay, sure.” AFO is all, “wait, wha -- ”

anyway. oh my goodness. if this is a sign of things to come, there’s a very strong possibility this chapter may destroy me. how exciting!!

yep. yep yep yep. this is for sure going to be the chapter that finally does me in. it’s been a great ride folks

you better not be thinking any thoughts about dying, young man. this had better be meant in the sense of “because I’ll be by your side supporting you instead”, as opposed to “because I will be a little pile of dust in about three seconds’ time oh shit”

(ETA: after finishing the rest of the chapter, I’m pretty sure it’s the former! the first flashback is a reference to his chapter 120 speech -- “even higher than you, Chosen One.” the second is a throwback to chapter 247, when he told Endeavor he only had his one quirk, but it was strong enough to do anything he wanted to do. and the third flashback is one he also had at Jakku when he sacrificed himself to push Izuku out of the way.

so to me, this reads like (1) a reminder of his determination to surpass Izuku and become the strongest hero; (2) foreshadowing for him defeating AFO with Explosion, the Little Quirk That Could; and (3) a reminder of his “origin.” that last one being important because nowadays it’s just as strong of a motivator as his original goal. back at the beginning of the series, all he cared about was being the strongest. now, though, he’s not just fighting for himself; he’s also fighting to atone, and he’s learned to put himself aside if necessary.

as for the dialogue, this reads like a continuation of his mental conversation with Izuku that he began in chapter 362 (“gotta win... right, Izuku?” “so, Izuku... can I still catch up to you?”), and then continued in chapter 406 (“for some reason, I feel like I could overtake you now”). so in that context, “I’ll no longer get in your way” basically means that he’s done chasing Izuku, and that he’s caught up now and can hold his own. his determination to get stronger hasn’t wavered. his confidence in his own quirk and his own skills hasn’t wavered. and his resolve to atone for everything he did to Izuku is as strong as ever. put those all together, and we have the recipe for quite a spectacular redemption fight. his follow-up to chapter 362.

because earlier when he fought Tomura/AFO, he was basically just trying to buy time. no one ever planned or expected him to have to face the Big Bad one-on-one; that was supposed to be Izuku’s job. he was only meant to be there as support. and in the end he wasn’t strong enough, and he nearly died. and rather than being able to support Izuku, he ended up being used against him.

but this time is different. he’s no longer the decoy, the distraction. he’s no longer the pebble. he won’t get in Izuku’s way, because this time he’s going to be strong enough to win the fight. he’s going to hold his own, and get the job done.

so yeah. “I won’t get in your way” = “you can depend on me”, basically. because he’s become that guy at last. the guy who shows up in the clutch and wins the day. the hero he always wanted to be. good stuff.)

and then this chapter -- this whole entire fight, really -- comes along, and it’s just nonstop rebuttals, lol. and it’s not just that he’s proving all the negativity wrong. it’s that he doesn’t even care about any of that. AFO is out here trying to goad him with that same “YOU’RE JUST A SIDE CHARACTER” bait, and in response Katsuki just hits him with a Howitzer and tells him to shut the fuck up. AFO thinks he can get to him by being petty, because AFO still sees him as the bratty kid from the Sports Festival. but the present day Katsuki has long since moved past all of that, and no longer gives a fuck whether or not he shares the spotlight. unlike AFO, who never lost his childish egotism, Katsuki has learned to see outside himself, and the resulting growth has made him a bigger badass than AFO could ever hope to be.)

Yeah, this is something I override in my headcanon. I put tall-men at roughly 80 year lifespan. Mainly cause it's way funnier to think of Chilchuck as ~45 than ~35. Also, please don't poke my girl right in the trauma.

The worldbuilding implied by this one panel is astounding. I like wyrm Falin.

I love how everyone respects Chilchuck (mostly), but the second a teammate is turned into a half-foot, he's carrying them around like a purse dog.

howdy there and welcome to a Cutie Pox Chronicles behind the scenes post!!!!! its gonna be long so im keeping it below the cut, this is skippable but if you want to read it you can!!

SO welcome to the depths... so heres what were going to talk about today - the yukki ponna, some cut content, fine line and some character details, and then some personal stuff! lets get into it

so, as was predicted a couple times, the weather change and disharmony is real important to the story - its been foreshadowed sense chapter one! but theres one clear problem with it and its the shows original frost horse. as i think everyone is aware for decades indigenous people have asked to not take their mythos out of their context (( read more on that here , and here!)). so for CPC i have rewritten them to be based off the Yuki onna, a Japanese yokai! although they work fundamentally the same - they feed off of disharmony and infighting, not only now do they freeze whoever they are around they also kidnap ponies once they are fully frozen! Theyre brought up into the clouds and used to make them more powerful - however they can be stopped in the same way as in the show. here is one of the initial pieces of concept art i did for them - making their bodies look more like a kimono, and i played with giving them black hair too but i didnt like it.

speaking of concept art... there are a LOT of pannels that get cut while im working, this past comic had about 18 pages that i cut down for time and for my sanity, but i share a lot of WIP panels on jayrrators server so i still have some and thought i would share them here, in the read more will be the context and why they were cut!

NOW THIS i am glad i have. when i draw an infected i do make them a ref sheet but i DO NOT share or save these because i dont wanna spoil what they look like buuuut this one i did. i actually had one for minty that i was gonna add here, but deleted it accidentally, shown here is orange swirl and globe trotter

but on the topic of showing off some ponies i have one i wanna talk about and its the fine line problem

the question ive gotten the most is who the hell is this and i think its time to talk about who she is. Fine line first shows up in the season one finale, the grand galloping gala, and she then shows up as a canterlot incidental form then on out primarily when theyre at the castle. shes shows up at cadences wedding and gets killed by the smooze (( not really )).

okay we get who she is but WHY. well part of the point of the comic was to give some love to the background ponies like the early fandom i was engrossed with growing up. and to me, she is one of the most background ponies. she has no dialogue, no special moments, but yet she has a very enchanting design! when i first saw her i really became obsessed with her. but she almost wasnt a part of the comic.

when i was choosing ponies it was a throw up between her - orange swirl (( as seen above )), strawberry sunrise, and dan tee dove! i needed a pegasus pony, and someone who wasnt WHITE or eggshell because theres too many of them. but... she fit none of them. she in cannon is a unicorn and white, but after talking it over with some friends and almost choosing orange swirl i just had to go with her.

so i updated her design to what i needed, shes no longer a unicorn or eggshell which makes her look more like an OC but most of the background ponies get a small upgrade to their designs so it just makes sense to me. for personality we only know shes a nanny and was born in manehattan, so i made her have a personality that would work well with kids, and made her older to fit her general vibe. and then i paired her with the only OC in the whole comic who is yougurt! why didnt i use a different calf? well get this, there are NO names i could find!!!! so screw it!!!! baby baby boy!!!!!!!!

but yeah thats the history for finest lineist!

and as requested here is the pronouns for ever character that has plot significance: from now on ill be including it with the characters introduction. although outside of the story i do get more headcannony for them but to keep things simple in the story they generally stick to what they are in cannon! i know i probably forgot some but -

Day 8: Worst moment for you?

Goinng by what I felt the first time experiencing it... that has to be chapter 77, the therapy session of Mr. Thomas Austin of Eden Academy. It's one of those chapters that make sense in retrospect as an important, subtle set up but couldn't come out at a more awkward point in time, making it look like the manga was starting to meander.

Just fresh out of the lukewarm finale of the bus hijacking arc giving us what felt like an ass pull (Twilight got back and was actually monitoring the situation, guys! We can totally sidestep talking about how he feels about this ordeal now because he mentioned it in passing!), this chapter teased us with the worst possible replacement to what fans wanted. Sure, it's nice to adress how these experiences can be traumatic and require recovery... but wouldn't it make more sense to have Anya or Damian talk about it? You know, one of the kids who actually got held at gun point? The two that got a bomb (fake or otherwise) strapped to their necks by terrorists? Hello? Why is this discussion being given to a character that has barely been on panel a few times? Even worse, despite that seeming to be what the chapter was gonna be about, we got something decidedly less interesting or funny. Turns out Mr. Austin isn't exactly suffering PTSD because of the danger her daughter was involved in... but is simply terrified of the criticisms from her wife because their relationship has deterioriated. Henpecked husband, sheer comedy gold! *sigh* The chapter boils down to Twilight conducting (even further) medical malpractice against Austin to force him to be honest about some ommited details, and the end result is a little facepalm worthy for more than a few reasons. Let's not get into the weeds of the multiple ways that's not proper therapy, and instead reiterate the biggest problem at a structural level at large: you can't just pretend you're gonna address PTSD in the context of a narrative where it would be relevant and then pull the rug like that. It comes across as you messing with the audience, and not in the fun way. Like I said, I can see NOW that the purpose of this chapter was to set up Twilight questioning the nature of marriage, which in turn leads to that fake gripe with Yor in a subsequent chapter, and that eventually brings us to Twilight having the realization of how compromised he's become at the end of the Mole hunt arc... but without said retrospect (or even a little with it), damn. It's not a good impression to have a chapter that neither is that funny nor seems to explore how the main cast got affected by something that by all intents and purposes shouldn't just be brushed aside. I get the series is a comedy, but there's something to be said about Anya being put in all these life threatening situations and just going back to being a normal child like it was nothing. Or Loid to just... hand wave the issue because cold calculating spy. Hunter X Hunter once brilliantly denied the main character emotional release from an important event until the conflict made that repressed emotion explode. This is not that situation, just a moment of awkward writing.

Also, earlier in that chapter, I was wondering why Charles would even bother to help in covering up a murder for James if that person that James murdered wasn't so important in the first place. Okay, I haven't actually posted a review of Infinity Dime here. So I'm just gonna copy and paste my Inducks review that I wrote a few days ago:

This story is truly one of the worst things I've ever read. It falls into all the pitfalls I hate with Uncle Scrooge adaptations, a lot of which I think stem from Aaron mostly reading Rosa instead of Barks, thus missing the core of the character for Rosa's hero worship.

In this story Aaron turns Scrooge into a subpar superhero. Scrooge's only way of combatting his enemies throughout this story is to go in straight for the brawl, which is something I always hate. Scrooge's character can do (and usually is) so much more than what Aaron showed in this story. And when Scrooge goes for the brawl he's accompanied by enough Don Rosa references to kill an elephant. These references have absolutely no substance, they mostly reference volume 1 of The Life and Times of Scrooge McDuck, and are far less interesting or impressive than Don Rosa's own references to Barks.

The Beagle Boys are also hit pretty hard in this story. Aaron presents them as nothing more than simple henchmen for the Scrooge above all, which is just lame (never mind the fact we didn't even get any multiversal variation!). Scrooge above all is a very generic villain, he is just Scrooge who wants to be the richest in the universe and doesn't care for anyone (boring). At the start of the story there could've been something in his premise that could actually play off how Barks wrote Scrooge, at the start it's shown he got every single piece of wealth there is to get on his world. This could've played nicely into the opening of The Seven Cities of Cibola where Scrooge was frustrated over monopolising Duckburg and not having any new ways to make money! But of course, because this story is extremely bare bones Aaron does nothing with that and just goes for the generic superhero bullshit.

In addition to these poor characterizations I think this story is fundamentally broken. It tries to pull off a 3 act structure, and it completely lacks the 2nd act! This story goes from the opening of Scrooge getting sucked into the multiverse, straight into the final fight with Scrooge Above All! It's just absurd! And in this final battle we get to see all the wonderful and inventive versions of Scrooge from across the multiverse... oh wait, these are just life and times references. Imagine if in Spider-Verse every single version of Spider-Man was exactally like the default version, but with an offset of 3 years, that would be boring! That would be lame! You could do the same thing with time travel! There is no need for this story to be a multiverse story because it's almost never taking advantage of it! Even with the Life and Times "multiverse" there is so much missed potential. Take for example 13 year old Scrooge from chapter 1, Aaron could've made it so he was already the richest duck at 13, therefore he didn't struggle as much. It could've been interesting, but he's still just shoeshine Scrooge.

The final battle it was also really odd, the variants of Scrooge almost lose to Scrooge above all but then at the last minute the Donalds come to save them, now this doesn't make any sense from a story level. We only ever see Donald in this story for 1 panel before that point, it was in the opening and we don't even see his face! The only way to understand why Donald is important to Scrooge is to read the comics (especially Don Rosa's in this case) and at that point this story doesn't offer anything interesting those stories haven't already done 10 times better!

And of course after Scrooge Above All is defeated all is well because he saw the value of corny and lame "family is important" DuckTales episodes, and he is just redeemed. It comes very out of nowhere, and it feels like really childish storytelling

Donald is also very mischaracterized here. He is portrayed like his cartoon self who gets incredibly mad over everything! With none of the complexity of his comic self (what do I even expect at this point?). I always viewed him more so as easy to frustrate and stubborm than having the short fused insanity of his cartoon counterpart. This comic has versions of Donald fight over their bowties, that's rediculous. And also every version of Donald looks the same. Again, like the Beagle Boys, there is practically no multiversal variaty!

This story is uniquely awful from what I experienced, not only does it change way too much about these characters, and replaces them with boring shells of themselves, but everything this story tries to accomplish depends on reading previous works that said everything it wants to say 100 times better. Dialogue is pretty lame and actually pretty bad at times "I am Scrooge! Uncle to noone!" comes to mind. And the art can look fine at times, I'm not the biggest fan of the artstyle but reading the page layout made me go dizzy. Overall a 0/10 story for me, if I could I would go lower.

So! chapter 11 left us all crazy, both anime onlys and manga readers were facing the same problem and neither knew what was gonna happen. Thankfully, we got answers to many of our questions and most of our favorites got to live.

But before we manga readers get our hopes up, we should analyze what happened in the new chapter and what things could be anime only.

I will start this by saying that I don't ussualy make theories nor am I someone that catches many details, so I'm sorry for any mistakes.

First, I will talk about Fyodor's scape and death.

One of the most important parts of the plan to defeat Fyodor is having a vampire pilot the helicopter/whatever vehicle he is using for scaping. In this case, it was achieved by having him injure one of his hands and making him unable to pilot the helicopter by himself.

*translation: if your hand were destroyed, you would need a vampire as a pilot*

It is said by Dazai himself, the plan since the start was to leave Fyodor unable to pilot, therefore scape by himself.

Here we can see in the Anime and Manga the moment Fyodor gets injured, but in the manga there is a difference. There are no wounds in his hands in later panels.

This panel shows both of his hands, and there is no wound, blood or even bandages.

Same scene in the anime, we can clearly see the wounded hand.

What does this mean for the plan?

I think we have to take other things into account before we speculate on that. But I think Dazai's plan in the manga will be different, one, because of what has already been shown in this post, and two, because of Sigma.

Why Sigma?

In both manga and anime, we last see him passed out on the floor after getting information from Fyodor, especifically "all of his secrets"

We assume he is passed out due to the great amount of information he got, just like it happened with Atsushi. What we don't know is what info got Fyodor, let's remember Sigma's ability is an exchange of knowledge, not extraction.

In this new chapter we are led to believe that he is dead or left behind inside Mersault, like is shown here

After being Dazai's partner during the scape and what appears to be an important part of Dazai's plan in stopping Fyodor and figuring him out, he is left behind and forgotten, making all of his development and his conflict with Dostoyevski unecesary.

It makes all the build-up to finally knowing Fyodor's ability and his ultimate goal fall apart, especially after having none of those factors play a role on his defeat

I'm not sure if any of this makes sense, I'm a bit sleep deprived and sick, so my reasoning may not be all that consistent.

182 Days of TPN - Day 119

Chapter 119: “Encounter”

Ever since the escape, the WM pen gave Emma hope, insight and a sense of direction, so seeing her drop something she held onto so tightly now that Norman is back is kinda satisfying I guess? He checks off all those boxes for her sorta. She doesn’t ditch it completely though as we see it used later on before the GF raid.

Goes without saying but the reunion was done so much better in manga. All the emotion from Emma reflecting on their time apart hits so hard and of course seeing all the tears they’re shedding contributes to all that too. Also love how they decided to give this moment a double spread as it helps convey that there’s no longer any space between them. The only thing that would’ve made this scene better (for me) is if Emma had knocked ‘em both down to the floor. I know Norman became taller and probably a bit stronger physically since Lambda, but with the amount of speed and force Emma is putting into that hug I’m surprised he’s still standing.

At least the anime remembered his squishy cheeks.

I know this is a very touching moment but honey, why do you gotta say this so causally?? You’re sure as hell ain’t gonna get it back either!

I guess another reason why the manga handles this whole reunion better is that it includes everyone, not just Emma & Ray. Yeah the anime had the escapees see Norman later at that temple they were hiding at, but it didn’t feel the same. As much as I can appreciate the fullscore trio having their own little moment for themselves, I like seeing everyone’s reactions all at once since there’s a wide range of emotions on display here. Emma also looks so pleased with herself with how large their family has become.

I wish there were more chapters focusing on Norman’s time at Lambda. With how closely he was being watched, I can’t help but wonder how he managed to efficiently communicate with Vincent and Smee and how he orchestrated the whole escape without raising suspicions from the demons and Ratri clan working there. (remember when i said no human (on our side) has killed another? well, i forgot about this whole scheme.. so it seems norman has quite the kill count, even if those were done indirectly by an explosion.)

Few chapters ago I wondered if Hayato & Jin knew to look for the escapees based on seeing Norman’s ID or if he told them both what to look for, and though I believed the latter was the valid reason, I can’t doubt the first option now either since his number is in plain sight. I know he typically hides it when outside paradise when attacking farms and making deals with demons so perhaps that’s why I even questioned it in the first place.

And to absolutely no one’s surprise, of course Ray slapping the hell outta Norman is my favorite. The anime pales in comparison to the sheer amount of power and lowkey rage behind manga!Ray knocking this boy on his ass. The shock on everyone’s face is hilarious as well. At least Norman is a good sport about it.

The rest of this moment is still sweet though, like Norman quoting the letter he left Emma and seeing my boy finally break and have some tears flowing makes me wanna hug him.

To hear the boy who cursed his life and had plans to end it all come around and say he’s happy to be alive is just.. aaahh so so very important!!!!

I do like how the anime gave us a better look at his face with this line though.

And I got nothing against the panel of Emma down below (because it is adorable how she questions her sudden inclusion in the hug), but I love how relieved she is upon hearing such words from Ray.

Stupid is a term of endearment. And I wish I could say we can never let this trio be separated ever again but.. you know. Stuff happens.

Ask chapter 4

The pose is pretty boring and tells us nothing , for a character bio I did expect a pose more telling of her own character , since Ruth is supposed to be the heart of gold but harsh person I did expect something to make her more imposing and strong .

The math isn't mathing, since Ruth is supposed to be born in 1942 in 2019 she should've been 77 not 75 .

It's good for her to have this background but in Australia in order to become bouncer you need an accredited license . So I don't understand why it's not added in her backgrounds as it is important information. Also for her to be the only bouncer is very dangerous , usually you need to have at least 3 bouncer and make them rotate their turns they bounce during the week and always have 2 of them active .

The layering of that panel could've been more interesting and I don't understand why she didn't color Ruth, if there's a moment where you want to color a character it is during their bio

I think having such a large age gap is interesting for them , I hope their maturity gap will be explored more so we can understand their relationship in a more complex way ? I don't have much hope since rusty best work is always simple fluff slice of life . But maybe since this is close enough to romance we're gonna have a much more interesting dynamic between them .

I really like the anatomy here , since it's in a very stylized style it doesn't feel as off as in later chapter and shez looks somewhat more realistic here , she doesn't look as bulky or off proportions as she does in some instances . I also enjoy the fashion choices , they're simple but far from boring and make us learn details about them that can only be told trough fashion choices .

Although I dislike the color choices . Having only the tattoo colored is really weird and off putting , done that way it just doesn't fit she should've just colored everything, not necessarily in a perfect way having a messier idea for this kind of sketch is good especially when it give more content to feed your audience .

Tho I do like the fact that shez and parniya disagree on certain stuff , perfect relationship don't exist and having them having disagreement is healthy , once again

Rusty should've focused on a romance comic

I like Jaden path of discovery , it's pretty common among queer youth to discover they are queer later especially since Jaden n i are somewhat close in age when I was young it was rare to see queer people and even more rare to know about them . So it's a really interesting path choice for Jaden. Having her also focus because she didn't understand the attraction to dating until she realized who she was attracted to is really sweet as well . I went trough something kinda similar so it's really refreshing to finally see rusty do the stuff she excels at . It's unfortunate her bigotry and transphobia get in the way because she's good at writing simple Romance . The rest are topics she doesn't understand the complexity of it trough her terf tainted glasses .

For this panel the lack of color make sense , I would've colored Jaden skin darker but since it's black and white I'm gonna let this panel pass as simply a quick sketch

I really like that for Riley she always kinda knew and just didn't realize it , tho the execution of this panel isn't the best . It's easily misinterpreted as "Riley wished she looked like the mannequin" perhaps showing her looking at a poster or a magazine in a window would've been a better alternative to let no place to misinterpretation . I also like how small they are putting emphasis on the fact she realized her attraction at a very young age despite not knowing what it was exactly. I like how they're experiences are so different.

It would be interesting to have another one (maybe violet realizing she's actually a lesbian and not bi) trough learning about comphet maybe in that instance , blaire could be useful and more be a Grey zone character in the morality of the comic . If the comic is really meant to be lesbiancentric I'd really love to have more diverse lesbian experience about them . It could be interesting and appeal to a broader public than the niche of experience rusty try to cater to (privileged white cis woman)

Haikyuu!! Chapter 247: Day 02

I really like the cover for this chapter. It’s a good choice by putting both Kenma and Hinata together. The rivalry between Karasuno and Nekoma are truly important for all of them. Ukai pretty much gets it. (While I cannot help laughing at the snickering Kuroo and stink-eyed Daichi, these two captains probably takes the whole rivalry more seriously than the rest)

It is what motivate them to keep going and aiming for the previously impossible dream. I believe that’s not going to change anytime soon with Karasuno facing their greatest hurdle yet.

Inarizaki High School. Previous runner up of the Inter High and Miya Atsumu’s school. Honestly, the way Ukai describes the team really gives us the sense of how formidable this team is. I wonder what kind of strategy Ukai comes up with. But I cannot help be amused by certain people’s reactions.

Kageyama and his matter of fact explanations and obliviousness to the reaction to his words.

The Idiot Duo™ simplistic and optimistic approach (feat. unimpressed Tsukki, that’s one hell of side-eye).

And surprise, surprise, there are two Miyas!

Are that different hair color and parting line intentional I wonder? What’s up with the twins in sports? Daiya has twins as a battery pair too.

While all of those are interesting, the highlight of this chapter for me is the Ukais. I’ve been wanting to see more of these two. I wonder what the old, experienced coach of a grandfather thinks of his unexpected coach of a grandson, who manages to get to the Nationals in his first year as a coach. Now that put it down in words, Ukai is as surprising as his players. The old Ukai even points out how bad he is as a player, but at the same time he notes how good he is as a coach.

While he’s still rough at the edges, Ukai’s really getting the handle of this coaching thing. He can stand his ground as seen from the above panel. He quickly picks up that Takeda is gonna get steamrolled and immediately intervenes. He is likely the youngest and the least experienced coach around, but here he’s asking an experienced coach to help with their warm-up instead. He’s as gutsy as his players, honestly.

What also catches my attention is the championship bracket.

There should be 6 rounds in total CMIIW, and Karasuno will meet Nekoma in third round and Itachiyama in sixth round or in the finals.

Somehow… I doubt Karasuno will get that far. I’m not being pessimistic, I’m just being realistic. The first round against Tsubakihara has pretty much established how high the level of skill of the high school teams in the nationals. While Karasuno managed to win straight two sets, it doesn’t change the fact that they’re still scraping by (I’d say the same for Nekoma, too). They have the potential of growth, and they have grown through the matches against strong opponents, but there’s so much growing you can do during matches or even a championship. Then there’s that edge gained from sheer stubbornness and persistence usually in form of momentum or luck.

The third round match against Nekoma will be the most difficult match for Karasuno because of what it means for both Karasuno and Nekoma. The fulfillment of a promise, the long-awaited match, the settlement of the score, and the appeasing of the old coaches. There’s so much riding on a single match that I don’t doubt that both teams will give their all, throw their heart and soul into that game. They are not likely to think to play it safe, and to think of long term. They will push themselves to the limit. Whoever ends up winning the battle of trash heap, they will be completely drained. They will struggle to pick themselves up, not only mentally but physically. If they manage to do so in the fourth round, there’s a chance they can forge ahead, but winning the championship? Well….

That’s just a thought really. I trust Furudate-sensei to have everything planned, and so far Sensei hasn’t led us (or probably just me) astray. So I’ll just enjoy the ride. I wonder how good the second strongest team in Japan is.

SO. I JUST READ TOMODACHI GAME CHAPTER 125 AND I NEED TO TALK ABOUT IT OH MY GOD. SPOILERS UNDER THE CUT

So. First off. Yuuichi. My baby boy. He did no wrong

JUST LOOK AT HIS FACE IN THIS PANEL IT MAKES ME SICK.

This is Yuuichi knowing he's going to die. This is Yuuichi trying not to make his friends suffer because of his death. Trying to seem like the worst scum ever so they don't have anything good to remember of him. So that they're almost relieved he's dead. This panel hurts me to my core (just like the entire chapter did)

He just knows he's gonna die in this one. He's grateful he did. Sacrificing himself for everyone. It just feels so real. Following Yuka's rule of friends being the most important thing in the end. Literally sacrificing himself for them.

And this. All of his old friends just giving him up. Not understanding him. Seeing him just like he wants them to see him. In the end, they always saw what Yuuichi wanted them to see of him. Just the mask he put up, nothing else.

Only to be immediately contrasted with Kei. Now if you know me a bit, you know I am a hardcore Kei x Yuuichi shipper so OF COURSE I bawled my eyes out, but this is out of topic. Kei and Satone, both people who don't know Yuuichi for nearly as long as the others do. Both people who constantly try to see below the mask he puts up. Satone, with her "instinct" and all that shit, but most importantly, Kei. Ever since Yuuichi agreed to work with him, Kei has been trying his hardest to try to learn stuff about Yuuichi. His past, his psychology, everything. He was absolutely fascinated with this dude. So much so, that he understands him better than any of the people who have known him for years do. Sees behind the heartless manipulator facade he has been putting up all game, despite not even knowing how he was outside of the game.

And this. Kei cares y'all. He cares a lot. Ever since he was born, he saw everyone as idiots, never understanding them truly. But now he finally found someone who he understood. Someone he actually liked. Got along with. Found interesting. Smart. Someone who, also, could understand him. Only for that someone to be misunderstood by everyone. Making Kei resort back to saying everyone are idiots, just mad they don't understand the one thing he did understand.

I don't even have anything to say about this one, it was just so satisfying. Such raw emotion coming from Kei.

HE HAS JUST BEEN GOING THROUGH EVERY EMOTION IN THE BOOK. NOW THAT HE LET HIS ANGER OUT, ALL OF THE SAD HE BOTTLED UP EVER SINCE HE REALIZED YUUICHI'S PLAN IS COMING OUT. He started to feel in the norm again. Slowly. With his basketball team, but even more over the course of the game, with Satone, Tenji, but of course mostly with Yuuichi. And now, he is terrified of falling back to where he came from. A part of me believes Kei found a sense of belonging over the course of the Tomodachi game, so the idea of it ending hurts. And of course, there's the elephant in the room, Yuuichi dying.

Kei has always considered himself a genius, not needing others. Yet, he admits that he needs help in this very moment. Even asks for it. I wrote something bigger and shit, ask me in my ask box if you wanna talk about it but Tumblr deleted it and I am too lazy to type it

And of course, despite the choice of who head give the win to not mattering, Yuuichi deliberately chose Shiho. A final present, even though he knew she'd hate him and that he wanted her to hate him.

I like to think of it as the administrators testing if Yuuichi changed over the course of the game. Which he proves he didn't. Not only sacrificing money this time, but also his own life.

Sukuna says “did kenjaku… or rather tengen… do this ironically?” what does this mean. This sounds like tengen and kjk are like the same being under different names (???) or maybe that one of them was the one who wanted to make the mummy and asked the other to do the work for them??? Idk

When gojo says “its just the three of us” referring to himself shoko and ijichi shoko answers “there’s one who hasn’t fully recovered yet.” Id jump on the chance to say its nobara but i think they’re talking of people who went to school with them so who? Nanami is dead for sure bc they confirm it one panel later. Mei mei and utahime were i think both older than them (already professional sorcerers while they were students) and anyway neither of them received any major injuries in shibuya and they haven’t fought in the culling game. I see now why ive seen an increase in people saying yuuji has kjk’s bodyhopping. Honestly it could be also bc i dont understand what else could possibly be going on . Naruto re-read XXVIII

335) Itachi told Sasuke that he should kill his best friend to obtain Mangekyou, and guess what Sasuke is trying to do? (here) also (here). Naruto wants to test this “best friend” claim of Sasuke with the aid of his Rasengan. The clash of their powers sent them both flying (x), Sasuke take this as a personal loss as Naruto “outgrew him” when he learned Rasengan (x, x) while Naruto saddens at the idea that Sasuke was being truthful on his claim (x, x).

336) Sasuke can easily use fire based jutsu when he’s twelve (he learned it when he was six!) x

337) Naruto remembers his first thoughts about Sasuke (and look, girls are cheering him on and he looks annoyed, x) and how glad he was that he found a boy with a similar background to him (x). “You were my Idol, and so… hearing that… I was never happier, with those words, for the first time… you acknowledged I was good.” (x) Can’t make it clearier here Sasuke’s relevance on Naruto’s life and the importance of him staying, of him acknowledging Naruto.

338) Kakashi returns from his mission and learns of Tsunade’s decision (x) and sends his summons after Naruto and Sasuke (x).

339) “I don’t want a thug like Orochimaru to ruin you…” (x). Sasuke pierced through Naruto’s shoulder and lung (x) and since Naruto is out of his own chakra (yellow), he uses Kurama’s (red) x. Great panel.

340) “Sasuke, Orochimaru can’t have you! I’m gonna bring you home safe if I have to break every bone in your body!!” The contradiction is hilarious.

341) Sasuke thinks of his family when fighting Naruto (x) and asks him what can he possibly understand when their experiences even as orphans are so vastly different. It’s an understandable point, as Naruto, while parentless, never knew what is like to loose his family (much less in such a traumatic way as Sasuke’s brother killed both his parents and tortured Sasuke), as he was just born when Kushina and Minato died (Minato even died out of his own volition, as he sacrificed himself to seal Kurama inside Naruto so Konoha wouldn’t loose the nine tails): “You were alone to begin with!! What can you know about me?! This pain is born from my family bonds! How could you ever know what it means to lose anything!!” (x).

Naruto’s response to this is also understandable from his standpoint (even if it’s meaningless for Sasuke’s own perspective), as he imagines Iruka as a father (x) and Sasuke as a brother (x) -SNS was found dead-. His consideration of Sasuke as “part of his family” (x) is intrinsic in Naruto’s characterization, yet for Sasuke, who had a family and who experienced loosing them, this notion isn’t well received, so he seeks to break this particular bond, never verbally reciprocating Naruto’s feelings (x). After this confession, Sasuke finally acknowledges Naruto as his equal (x, x), as he wears the hitae ate to fight him one last time.

342) An example on how the Sharingan sees movement (x).

343) Alright but Sasuke’s chakra control is superior? (x), he’s supressing Orochimaru’s curse, using his three tomoe Sharingan and fighting Naruto by using chakra nature transformation all at the same time. And yes, the Sharingan consumes a lot of chakra, that’s why Uchiha have immense reserves to compensate (x). Kurama states that Naruto by himself is weak and he completely depends on him to fight against Sasuke (x).

344) Sasuke won (x), yet Naruto was able to scratch his hitae ate despite Sasuke claiming he wouldn't be able to (x), this not only signifies Naruto’s growth and Sasuke’s complete deflection (as the band falls from Sasuke’s head), but also Naruto’s influence on Sasuke, who decides to fight in his own terms against Itachi (x, x).

345) Zetsu makes an appaearance after Sasuke’s deflection! (here). Sasuke was always seeked by Zetsu!

346) Nara’s clan continued their research and studied medicine creation (x, x)

347) Shizune, alongside other medics are able to perform surgery to regenerate Neji’s lost tissues x (organs, skin, etc) by using his hair as a medium (guess for DNA purposes) -here-. This technique is similar to mitochondrial regeneration but when used on other person besides the user, it takes so much chakra that it needs a group of medics (at least five) to perform the ritual (plus fuinjutsu).

348) Shikamaru sucks and Shikaku is no better than his son (x, x). What is wrong with this man? Chöji and Neji are dying in the next room and all he can do is scream at his child that he shouldn’t quit?! (but Fugaku is such a bad father for congratulating Itachi for his Sharingan!!) (x).

I do want to have Ozymanzous be a silent comic to sell the book. Using random splash panels and longer sequences (than usual) of charades (charades-type) and color coded thoughtbubbles (one color for imagined futures, one for remembered pasts) where the thoughtbubbles are visual. But then like. Part of the story is just debate vs argument and it's just about Kouragra is like "Latin doth be kind of Italian right" and Enalore is like "you're adorable. did you just call our grandpa [grandpa] lord god in heaven [our father]?" because deep down I'm just like Tolkein. so there's just gonna be random splash pages of grandpa as god. no but listen once you get used to it. it will work

this is how to do filler guys. this is it. 2 pannels to one page. Obviously it's bad but I could have drawn the trap imaginings in the gutters and moved the speech bubbles around AND I should have drawn pannels around the bottom part. And obviously you'd be redrawing it. I'm not trying to disrepect Ryoko Kui by, like, having there be 2 marcille's as if she wasn't communicating it well enough by having it be just once her waving it behind his head. Us watching his hand gesture will see her wand. But the thing is, comics ARE about drawings and text and I think we relay a lot on text as an audience. and you can see she's talking about her magic, which humans have represented this mysterious power in wands and staves. but it has to be more charades-y or your eyes will start to glaze over.
