So a bit ago, I started rewatching the My Little Pony, Friendship is Magic series. It was a big part of my childhood. I watched the show, distinct-fully remembering the Wedding season finally, watching the Discord x Fluttershy fanfiction on YouTube, and watching a lot of cute animations. I even got the majority of the Build a Bear Work Shop plushies as rewards. So when I saw people doing redesigns, I got back into the series and made these.
Here's my redesign of Twilight Sparkle, both as an alicorn and as a normal unicorn. I based her species on a mule because she was supposed to be a normal horse but ended up having some donkey features.
I added her cutiemark going down her legs more, colored her hooves differently, and made her alicorn magic change her more so the power growing in her is more progressive. Nothing much lore wise did I change other than that her mother is a donkey and dad a unicorn. She still lives in Canterlot and was a hidden gem among the other unicorns in school which got her recognized by Princess Celestia. She doesn't have many good friends at first because she was bullied for her nerd status. I did make her autistic because in the show she definitely is neurodivergent. Sexuality wise, she's cisgender female who's biromantic asexual

HELP THAT ONE OF SONIC IS TAKING ME TF OUT 10/10 I love it
Big fan also of all the little details present on the one with all my goobers. Somehow it's both low-res and very high-effort lol
UwU
Yeah that's fair. Funnily enough I was not much of a shipper prior to SU and tbh even in SU's fandom I'm just Weird about Steven specifically more than anything else. Like I would not be this way about any other show/movie/game, it just so happens that this show has avenues for shipping my fav guy with himself lol But I'm also a Connverse lover, and for most of my AUs that is the "canonical" endgame
Normally my thing is like, dissections and examinations of a specific character over falling into the shipping pits. And I guess in a way that's why I enjoyed SUF so much, it's this giant character study of my favorite guy
Fav episode is a tough one, as im ironically not one for rewatches. I've seen SUF twice, the OG series once, and the movie like half a dozen times
I'll pick The Test, Jailbreak or Change Your Mind for the OG series (honorable mention to Mindful Education) and In Dreams, Growing Pains, or I Am My Monster for SUF.
The Test because it's, in my mind, a very important character moment for steven. It's when he stops seeing his guardians as all-knowing pillars of support for him and starts seeing them as more people he needs to be the support for. it sets a dangerous precedent for steven that doesnt blow up until much later but for the people paying attention you finish that episode and are just like "oh nooooo dont think like thatttt"
Jailbreak is a fave because that's when I started actually being INTO SU instead of just catching up when my sister asked me to. I saw that and was like "Oh baby this is something Special". Fucking criminal that one of Garnet's best moments has been overshadowed by an entirely different property but I'll spare you my ranting lmao
Change Your Mind is just fantastic and so perfectly hammers home all the themes of the show. I was screaming like a little rat watching it live, I even went to Twitter (which i did not use at the time) to see people posts about it, I was THAT hyped. I think about Steven dancing with his gem half more often than i like to admit
In Dreams was a personal one for me because at the time that episode aired I was taking care of my mom during her hospice. Steven just expressing how tired he was, how he didnt know how to exist outside of helping someone else… was like getting shot point blank in the chest. I dont often hear a character say something that hits me so hard but that took me out almost. I also love dreamcore/weirdcore aesthetic type stuff and In Dreams does a lot of that
Growing Pains is like the biggest vindication for everyone who was like "hey steven is mentally FUCKED" prior to SUF airing and it's just a good breakdown of what it actually means to do all the hero bullshit, the consequences of it. Its pretty much unheard of for a kids show to tackle such heavy ideas and I'm glad that SUF said fuck it and decided to do it anyway even if it's unorthodox
I Am My Monster is an episode I enjoyed on my first watch because it once again nails home a very big theme of SU which is restorative justice, it's about healing and helping over hurting. But over time it's meant more and more to me as someone who has been thrown into rock bottom and needed so badly for someone to pull me out of it. Sometimes all you need is for someone to give you a hug and say "I love you" and mean it.

Arcane Season 2 Act 2 thoughts!
I think there’s something to say about this show’s willingness to kill off kids that every time Isha was on screen in this act I was saying “is it now? Is this where they’re going to kill her? I know this kid is getting offed at some point the only question is when”
That said, I do like the death they chose for her - how it ties back to Powder use of the hextech gems all the way back in 103. Lot of parallels in general between Isha and Power, and it was pretty clear Jinx (and Vi) saw that.
While we’re mentioning Jinx and Vi - holy shit episode 5. Not that we have the last three episodes yet, but ep05 is definitely my favourite of the season so far, if not my favourite of the entire show. Jinx immediately going to Vi when she finds out about Vander, the parallels between their conflict and the conflict between Silco and Vander.
Also the bit of history we get of Silco, Vander and Felicia, Vi and Powder’s mum, being this trio of friends who were all envisioning a better life and wanting it specifically for these two little girls. Just adds that bit of extra tragedy to Felicia’s death, Vander and Silco’s rift, and everything that happened after.
And then we get Vi at the end of the episode trusting Jinx’s conviction that Warwick is Vander and because of that they’re able to reach that bit of consciousness left in him together. Yeah episode 5 had me feeling all the feels.
I don’t have too much to say about the other storylines lmao I’m mostly still thinking about Jinx and Vi but hey I’ll try.
Confirmation that Mel has magic! And somehow it ties to the black rose which is interesting. I liked that the rose was trying to use her brother’s image to get her to figure out her powers (paralleled nicely to the sibling theme with Jinx and Vi too) and that Mel realised that. Not much else happening there, no doubt it’s going to come into play more in the last act with the things that will be happening there.
I think the ball was dropped a bit on Caitlyn in this act? Like we see her push back a bit against Ambessa in the starts of the act, but generally she felt pretty passive up until ep06 when she decided to team back up with Vi. I might have to rewatch these three eps again (and closer to the last three eps) to get a better idea, but yeah generally I think Cait fell a bit flat.
Not much to say on Jayce, as I’m sure we’re going to learn what happened with him at the start of ep07 (and Ekko and Heimerdinger too - THERE WAS NO EKKO THIS ACT I’M SAD) - however it was very funny in our watch party as we were all screaming JAYCE NO YOU’RE GONNA FUCK EVERYTHING UP during his actions in ep06. And well, yeah lmao
All of Viktor’s cult members screaming in unison and bluescreening when Jayce killed him was fucking haunting.
I was getting kinda worried partway through this act that we’re doing to much that we’re not really going to be able to wrap up properly. I’m still a little concerned, however with the way the last episode ended I think we’ve cleared a few things off the board that will make the final act tidier.
Predictions - I think the Piltover v Zaun is going to be put into an uneasy truce at this point, as the main conflict will now be fending off Ambessa and the Noxians. Secondary conflict - whatever Jayce found out about hextech and the arcane. Also now that Jayce is back on the map and in the same area as Ambessa, its possible she’ll finally get her hands on the scientist she wants to make hextech work for her, so that’s how those two plots will converge.
I think for the most part, the Vander subplot will be classed as over now, and probably most of the Viktor subplot too (though I’d say there might be a few more effects on that part). And we’ll get a lot more Mel and Black Rose stuff going on as it relates to Ambessa. I wanna hope we’ll get a lot more Ekko too? (he’s in the opening twice, I wanna believe he’ll have a big part) Though at this stage, apart from him also going on the hextech trip with Jayce and possibly learning what Jayce did, I don’t see where too much more of him will fit in.
As for Jinx and Vi, I wouldn’t be surprised if Isha’s death and Vander’s going beyond the point of being saved might put a rift back between Jinx and Vi. Particularly with Vi reconnecting with Caitlyn and likely wanting to help her against the Noxians too. I wanna hope that won’t be the case, but I don’t really expect this show to be a happy ending type show.
Anyway, yeah! I think that’s all the thoughts I have. Until next time!

Top 5 ships in 2023?
Hi 🤗 Thank you for this ask!
I don't know if you mean real life ships, and I don't really go there. I like watching some bits of fanservice and I adore the friendships of some of those onscreen couples, but I don't ship them.
So for this list I chose some of my favorite pairings these year 😊
The latest one, but already one of the most beloved ones:
Mhok and Day from Last Twilight
They are cute behind the scenes and the fanservice is decent, but more on the friendship scale, which I really like. And those two characters... I am in love with them, indisputable. The way Mhok makes Day smile and the way Mhok looks at Day... my heart can't take them anymore. I love them so much! They give me such a good feeling and I enjoy them so much on my screen.
Next one is a couple I really like behind and infront of the camera:
Yang and Phumjai from Love In Translation
The series was such a gem. And I adore those two behind the camera so much! My TikTok-feed was full of them. They have such a deep and precious friendship and this shows on screen too... They were so comfortable with each other and the way Yang looked at Phumjai with his heart eyes... so cute!!!
My favorite side-couple is next on this list:
AiDi and ChenYi from Kiseki: Dear To Me
I don't like the taiwanese fanservice that much. There is too much skinship for me that feels very much set up and only for the views. But I adored Aidi's and ChenYi's relationship. The hurdles they had to overcome and the fact that AiDi loved ChenYi for years... it all was so heartwrenching and when they finally got together they were the sweetest psycho-husbands ever and I would defend them til the end!
Some might forgot them already, but for me they live rent free in my heart:
Kawi and Pisaeng from Be My Favorite
I love these two! There is not much fanservice, but those two can sing and there are some beautiful videos of those two jamming together! And Kawi was my little puppy from the first time I saw him on screen and Pisaeng is just the best! I love their relationship and their journeys to finally be the best versions of themselves.
I close this list with my favorite show and my favorite pair from 2023:
DongWook and DoHyun from A Breeze Of Love
Typical for korea, there wasn't that much fanservice, but as I said before, I don't care so much about that. I loved their on screen presence and they had fantastic chemistry. They wanted each other and I was so there for them wanting each other! I love the friends-to-enemies-to-lovers-trope. I can't say, what exactly makes me so weak for them, but I could rewatch this series over and over again and still enjoy the shit out of it!

The best episode of HotD so far? For me it's Driftmark. I hated the Laenor ending, the sex on the beach was a bit cringe (because imo Emma and Matt don't really have much chemistry as a couple) and ofc the night scenes were too dark. However, the rest was really good, the score during Laena's funeral was beautiful, I liked Vaemond's eulogy, then that little scene between Jace and Aemond was also great and it always makes me sad to think about what could have been, Aegon hilarious as usual (minus the helaena comment), Aemond claiming Vhagar which was one of the best scenes in the show, the children fight, Alicent vs Rhaenyra... As for s2, I can''t name one episode i really liked. The whole season is a mess. Funny, because when I think about it, s2 of GoT was one of my favourites. I've rewatched it many times and yet I'm 100% sure I'll never again watch s2 of HotD.
Hello!
What a coincidence:) Driftmark is my favourite one as well. The two gems of that episode were Alicent going feral and attacking Rhaenyra on behalf of her son (actually, looking deeper, on behalf of all her children and herself) and my favourite HotD scene of them all - Aemond claiming Vhagar. The cinematography (night filter aside), the acting, the score - everything was great.
And what's really important, in Driftmark we saw what the Greens look like as a family: Alicent defending Aemond; Aemond and Aegon silently teaming up to protect their mother; Aemond trying to console her; Criston, while not being able to actually do something, remaining by Alicent's side and clearly being worried about Aemond and his injury; Helaena being in the background but glaring daggers at Viserys. And look what the show did to the Greens in season 2.
I have zero desire to revisit anything we've seen this season either (apart from a couple of separate scenes). Firstly, the show's quality dropped so low that at times it simply becomes laughable; secondly, my disgust about the way the writers treated the characters I love is almost palpable.

Okay so I'm rewatching Steven Universe and I got to thinking. Does the wider world know about the gems?
Throughout the show there is very little talk about what it's like outside of Beach City. We get to see that places like Empire City, Jersey, and Korea are all very similar to our reality, but we don't know about their economic and government systems or what society is like. We really don't know what the world thinks of the gems, if they know about them at all. Though I find that extremely unlikely.
The gem war is thousands of years over with, yes. But there were humans on Earth when Rose first saw more of the planet. We also know that Rose was very friendly with humans and immersed herself in human culture often. Though we never see her or any of the Crystal Gems try to pretend to be human, they never state what they are, human or not. So it's likely that these early human knew very well what Rose and Pearl are. There had to have been record of this in some way, especially when the Diamonds corrupted the planet. Even if it was just folktales.
Even if there was no record of the gems or the war or the Diamond's attack, there would have been geological or biological record. The rock around where Russia would be would have some evidence of how it formed. Plants weirdly scorched, or hey giant strawberries. Even if some academic lost their reputation because they kept insisting that this is proof of something alien. There's got to be someone. We see that Ronaldo has this sort of characteristic, constantly spouting theories about gems. We generally see that he is brushed off and his theories immediately written off. So gems are treated like aliens are in our world. That there is "evidence" of aliens, but it's never widely believed.
Okay so maybe the government doesn't know about the gems, or maybe they do and are hiding it. EXCEPT! That the government DOES know about them. May I present, Mayor Gunga. After Beach City citizens are abducted and kidnapped, she puts into place safety measures to protect them from future attacks. So Beach City's local government does know about gems. But the question is, after all this happened, does HIGHER government know? Did Mayor Gunga tell them to get disaster funding? And if they do know, what would they do about it? Would they claim the gems a threat and try to attack them? Bad idea these ladies are buff as hell. Would they want to kidnap the gems to experiment Area 51 style? Bad idea THEY ARE BUFF AS HELL!!! Okay so the government can't really do anything about it if they wanted to. Maybe they realize this and decide to let it be. Maybe Steven had to explain the situation, that outside of Beach City there really isn't necessarily any danger as long as the Crystal Gems are around. But how do you take this kid's word for it?!!!!???
Okay okay, let's move from Beach City. What about the larger world? There are gem settlements all over Earth, they must have been stumbled into (and not just by Dewey's ancestor). Are the Diamonds so wholly focused on just Beach City only because Steven is there? We see Blue Diamond visit Korea. Yellow likely has never gone near Earth except to end the war, though she sends Jasper and Peridot to it to check on the Cluster. Who's to say that people didn't see their ship? Or what about Pearl when she was using Peridot's old ship? No news outlet reports on any of these strange happenings in this one specific town?
And this is where I have to remind myself, I'M THEORIZING OVER A KID'S TV SHOW THAT'S BEEN OFF THE AIR FOR 6 YEARS!!!!! So none of it really matters and there's bound to be leaps in logic in an animated cartoon television show that starts with a magical boy crying over discontinued ice cream as his alien aunts watch as he vomits from consuming too many ice cream sandwiches.

Primrose Quartz Maheswaran-Universe
So I rewatched Steven Universe and caught up on the last season along with the movie and Steven Universe Future. You guys know me, I love giving canon character babies so it's time for the daughter of Connie and Steven! (When they're all grown up)
~*~
“Ladies, gentlemen, and gems of all ages!” Greg said. “After years of being away from Beach City, finishing college, and getting married, our favorite couple is back with a new addition. May I present to you Primrose Quartz Maheswaran-Universe!”
Greg opened the door to Steven’s old house, and polite clapping was heard as Steven entered with Connie. Their three-month-old baby, Primrose, was wide awake and taking everything in. When she saw Greg, she reached for him, and Greg took her, making everyone in the room go, ‘Aw.’
“Oh, let me see her; I must see her!” Pearl said. “Oh, look at her! She’s so perfect and chubby. Look at her little cheeks!”
“Primrose, this is Aunty Pearl,” Greg said. “She’s going to teach you how to be proper and, possibly, teach your sword stuff when you’re older.”
Primrose reached for Pearl. Pearl gasped and took her. Steven watched, unable to hide his smile. Primrose had proven to be friendly. Of course, she loved Greg. There were times when Steven had to fight to get his daughter back. She’d be curled up on Greg’s chest, her little fingers clinging to his clothing. She’d sometimes cry when Steven would take her back. Connie squeezed his hand, and he looked at her.
“I told you she’d love them,” Connie said.
“Okay, you were right,” Steven said. “It’s just a lot of people to meet. In the book I read, babies can get overwhelmed easily.”
“Hello, Primrose,” Pearl said. “As Greg said, I’ll be the one to teach you many things. Of course, you’ll be going to school. We’re going to make sure of that.”
“My turn, my turn, my turn!” Amethyst poked Pearl in the side. “I wanna see her!”
“Amethyst, stop that!” Pearl said. “I’ll give her to you, but you better hold her properly. Support her head at all times.”
“Yeah, yeah, yeah, give her here!” Amethyst demand.
Pearl reluctantly handed Primrose over. Primrose stared at Amethyst; she stuck out her tongue, and Primrose giggled.
“Hey, kiddo, I’m Amethyst! I’m going to be the fun aunt! Just wait until you get older! I’ll show you how to cliff dive!”
“You will not!” Pearl said. “That is out of the question!”
“Wow, this sounds familiar,” Steven chuckled.
It was like he had been taken back in time. He remembered how much Pearl had worried about him and her squabbles with Amethyst. God, he had caused so much trouble when he was younger. It was surreal thinking about his younger years. Here he was, married with a baby. Time really flew by. As Pearl argued about safety, Garnet reached down and plucked Primrose from Amethyst’s hands. Primrose cooed, grabbing hold of Garnet’s finger.
“Tiny hands,” She grinned. “My one weakness.”
“I still don’t believe that thing came from Steven,” Peridot finally spoke. “It doesn’t look a thing like Steven. And why isn’t it called Smaller Steven or Lesser Steven? It would make more logical sense!”
“I see Peridot is still having trouble understanding what a baby is,” Connie chuckled.
“She’s not Steven. She’s her person,” Garnet said. “Humans create other humans, but they’re not copies of them. Primrose will grow up to be her unique person.”
Peridot was about to argue when Garnet grabbed her by the hand and took her to the couch. Peridot was confused when Primrose was handed to her. The gem looked terrified as she held Primrose away from her. Garnet gently pushed Primrose back and then fixed Peridot’s arms so she had the baby correctly.
“Ah, what do I do? What do I do? Steven, guide me!” Peridot begged.
“Just hold her,” Steven said. “Talk to her.”
“Um--Peridot glanced down at the baby. “I’m Peridot. I’m a part of the Crystal Gems. I mostly reside at Little Homeworld. I met your father when I tried to destroy the planet.”
Primrose cooed, and then she gave Peridot a huge smile. Peridot stared at her before hugging her.
“This is my human now,” She declared. “You can’t have her back.”
“Hey, you can’t steal my grandbaby!” Greg said.
Steven burst out laughing. He had missed this chaos. Being on his own had been fantastic. Traveling the United States, meeting new people, and seeing the world had been cathartic. He had done that for a few years before Connie had started hinting she was ready to settle down. Steven had been waiting to hear those words from her, and after they got hitched, a baby was the next step.
Part of him had been terrified. Steven had no idea if his baby would be part Gem like he was. Rose Quartz had made an enormous sacrifice by having him, and Steven was scared it would be the same. Thankfully, the pregnancy went by without any issues. The only weird thing was Connie’s pickles, ice cream and sauerkraut dinners. Steven had been with Connie for every step of the process, from the classes to the doctor’s appointments. There had been no weird gem issues, except Primrose had been born with curly, pink hair. Other than that, everything went fine.
The warp pad glowed; Lapis and Bismuth had arrived. Bismuth was carrying something huge that was wrapped in mismatched wrapping paper.
“Sorry we’re late,” Lapis said. “We had to bring the gift.”
“Where is she? I want to see this baby,” Bismuth said, setting the significant gift down.
“Garnet had to steal her back from Peridot,” Connie said.
Sure enough, Garnet had plucked Primrose from Peridot’s tiny hands. She walked over to Lapis and Bismuth.
“Whoa, she’s tiny!” Lapis said.
“But look at that hair! She has the Quartz curls,” Bismuth chuckled.
Primrose reached up and grabbed Bismuth’s nose. Bismuth chuckled again, making the baby smile.
“That’s one heck of a grip you got there,” Bismuth said.
“You’re too close!” Peridot said. “Move back; you might have germs! I’ll go find the disinfectant!”
Steve watched as Peridot went to find some spray. He was surprised that she was the one who was more neurotic than Pearl. He glanced back to Bismuth, who was now holding Primrose. She brought the baby to the present.
“Ready?” Bismuth asked.
Bismuth grabbed the paper and tore it off. Underneath was a gorgeous silver crib with a mobile. Primrose’s name was engraved on it with a gemstone for the ‘o’. Both Steven and Connie gasped.
“Bismuth, that’s beautiful!” Connie said. “You made this for Primrose?”
“Yep!” Bismuth said with pride. “And watch this!”
Bismuth pressed the gemstone. The crib shook before transforming into a toddler bed with a pillow and blanket. Primrose gurgled, wiggling about in Bismuth’s grasp. Connie walked over to the bed and pressed the gem. Sure enough, it went back to its crib form.
“Bismuth, I’m speechless,” Connie said. “This has to be the most thoughtful and beautiful gift.”
“I did some research on human babies. I thought this gift would be the most helpful,” Bismuth. “What do you think, squirt?”
Bismuth placed Primrose in the crib. Primrose sat down and took in her surroundings. She then lay down in the crib, snuggling into the mattress. Peridot burst into tears.
“She’s so cute!” She bawled. “I love her so much!”
Steven couldn’t stop grinning. He was so happy Primrose had the Crystal Gems in her life. She may not have to save the universe or fight monsters, but she will always be loved.
“Whatcha thinking about schtu-ball?” Greg nudged Steven.
“I’m just happy,” Greg said. “I knew they’d love her, but seeing them love her just---feels right, ya know?”
“How could we not love her? She has the Universe charm,” Greg wrapped an arm around Steven. “Our family is known for making cute babies.”
Steven laughed.
“Peridot, get out of the crib,” Bismuth said.
“NEVER!” Peridot had climbed into the crib with Primrose.
“Oh boy,” Steven chuckled. “This might be a problem.”

Ahsoka Show Episode 1 - Spoilers/Thoughts
I have several important thoughts that I will be giving their own posts, but below is a rundown of my thoughts watching the first episode of Ahsoka last night.
As a background for my thoughts on the show going forward: Ahsoka is one of my favorite characters (aside from the Bad Batch). Her and Obi-Wan, equal and forever embedded in my heart. Her journey as Anakin's padawan, the lessons she learns throughout the Clone Wars, her strength in choosing her own path and figuring out who she wanted to be and what she stood for, her consistent pursuit of the light and truth and justice, but from a caring, empathetic, and compassionate heart, are traits that I always look to as inspiration. (My tagline Daughter of Light comes from a pin design of Ahsoka and Morai that the incredible Pinbutlersco created). I have enjoyed Rosario's portrayal of her in live action so far, and have been both eagerly hoping for and also extremely nervous about this show. I don't think there's anything that could ruin her character, but it is nerve-wracking to have a beloved fan favorite in live action when she has never been showcased there in the extent of what she is normally capable of in animation. Plus, the live action shows have been hit or miss lately except for Andor, and my hopes have been lower since Mando season 3 came out. I think I've accepted at this point that animation has a stronger pull on me than live action does at the moment, so that of course will inform some of my reactions.
As for the Rebels characters, I love them a lot. I just rewatched some of the essential episodes and was crying in almost every single one. They just tug on your heartstrings as a little found family almost immediately, along with how essential they are to the rebellion and the ways that the show explores the Force, familial and emotional bonds, and inner struggles. That said, Rebels is not my favorite Star Wars show, and therefore my understanding of Hera, Sabine, Ezra, and even Thrawn, is not as in depth or as emotionally entangled as Ahsoka or other characters. Therefore, if you want to take my opinions on them with a grain of salt, please do so ;).
And of course all of this is simply my personal opinion and reaction to watching the show as it comes out! I don't know yet if I'll end up doing any heavy analyses like I do for TBB but we shall see :)
Alright, all of that out of the way...let's see how the first episode turned out! (Episode 2 will be a separate post bc this is hella long already and you are a gem if you've read this far! <3)
SPOILERS BELOW THE CUT! DO NOT SCROLL IF YOU HAVE NOT WATCHED THE EPISODE YET! YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!
That opening crawl is super cool, and it's not a Star Wars opening without a good pan over an amazing ship out in space.
*sigh* I really don't want to be negative right off the bat, but these New Republic uniforms 💀 come on guys. It's one thing to try and show that the NR doesn't have a lot of resources/is brand new, but you could at least make them look lived in for the universe. It seems like this is the main spot where the length of the budget for costumes was apparently the opposite of a CVS receipt. Idk. Not a great look. And the ranking buttons 😭
Baylon and Shin showing up to free Morgan was obvious but still very cool to see them get the best of everyone on the ship. Baylon already has his hallway moment and we barely know them. Also RIP to Captain Hayle, he had the right idea to not trust them, maybe just not the right idea to go out and meet them.
Interesting that Hayle calls them Imperial "trash". We saw this in Mando season 3 with Dr. Pershing too...how the reintegration of imperial-aligned people back into society certainly wasn't helped by the prejudices of those on the "right" side. No matter how right or righteous you or your cause is, treating others with the same evil you claimed to be fighting against is never okay.
Also also, I still love those ridiculous elongated egg helmets of the Rebellion and the New Republic.
There's a lot of nice little touches, like the burn mark on a guy's thigh from a lightsaber wound or the lock to Morgan's cell spinning as Baylon uses the force to open it.
I immediately thought of the Mortis gods when Ahsoka steps into the temple and begins to unlock the pillars, with the figures and the map etched on the wall. I also appreciate that Dave let this scene take time to play out. Yes also Indiana Jones yes also Kurosawa yes also Treasure Planet.
Capes on assassin droids. Spooky. And did they sound slightly like Kylo Ren's modulated voice? Lol. And Ahsoka's "ahh shit" face when she realizes they're about to set off an explosion is pretty great.
HUYANG! HUYANG! HUYANG!!!! He's BEAUTIFULLLLL. I seriously can't believe how good he looks! It's also not a Star Wars show without a snarky droid keeping everyone in line, (or attempting to) and surprisingly it's not just Chopper. New fave for sure. David Tennant the man you are.
"Let's just say I didn't follow standard Jedi protocol"
I have to admit that I was hesitant about MEW for Hera but I'm liking her so far (costuming, not as much. The contacts and makeup and length of her lekku are throwing me a bit). I was surprised that she assumed Thrawn died in the battle of Lothal.
Ryder Azadi!!! and Jai Kell! So cool to see them. "Get out there and say something." "What?!"
Love the badass entrance for Sabine. The sass in this show is top notch. Also the blend of sound effects and soundtrack is really good, especially in these scenes.
NEED. LOTHCAT. NOW *grabby hands*
Unfortunately the recording of Ezra didn't do much for me. He looked pretty awkward and I would like to see how Eman portrays him in a live scene. I think again the costuming felt off rather than lived in/formed to the person wearing it.
OKAY WHOA HOLD UP NOW. Morgan is a nightsister??? A survivor? That's a rare rare thing. It will be interesting to see where Dave is going with this.
All of Ezra's helmet acquisitions strewn around the tower.
I'll be saying it more times than this, but Natasha is impeccable as Sabine. Both this current iteration of Sabine, where she is mourning and isolating herself, as well as channeling all the badass, artistic, creative, loyal, caring, snarky, cut to the chase versions of her from Rebels.
Natasha and Rosario convey SO MUCH in their silent glances to each other before getting down to business.
I kind of love the domestic intimacy of Ahsoka throwing her cloak over her bunk and grabbing a mug of tea before they sit down. Like they've done this a million times before.
I will comment on the "Master" "I should have made a good Jedi" "force sensitive Sabine?" track in episode 2.
I knew that map was doomed the second Sabine absconded with it lol.
The little "purrup" from the lothcat as it jumps off the table 😻
LOL Ahsoka being so annoyed at being in the Master position instead of being the difficult apprentice herself. Also the obvious guilt she still carries :/ "Sometimes the right reasons still have the wrong consequences." Oooof.
Not the cat signaling the presence of intruders
Again, Sabine is badass and incredible. Her athleticism and Mandalorian training is showing through. But girl maybe put on some armor??
Okay, don't take my tone the wrong way here (there will be a separate post about this): I HATEDDDDDDD the lightsaber stab. Hate hate hate. I swear they have got to STOP having people survive lightsaber stabs to the gut area. Just no. Pick any other body part to wound/end a fight with. Qui-Gon and Satine are rolling over in their graves 💀
Finally, I want to LIVE inside those credits ❤️ ❤️ The typography and design and colors are beautifulllll. And the score is of course stunning.
Overall, really great intro, it's amazing to see these characters in live action. A few qualms but I'm looking forward to where this is going.

Ohhhh, I'm so jealous you could go to a cup sleeve event! The closest one to me is almost 4 hours away. 😂 It's amazing that there was so many people! Ahhh, our Ateez are famous~! ✨
The lack of Korean fans blows my mind every single time I think about it. They have been so beloved globally from day one (and even before day one) but they still don't have that in their own country. It's insane! I'm glad they've embraced the 'global idol' title though. Everytime i hear it in an interview intro I'm like 'at least Korea knows they're truly loved elsewhere'. But the way they do sooooo much for K-tiny and still can't get the traction. It's crazy. No one is doing more.
Guerilla is such a good MV! What a great introduction! And it sounds so cool~ I really love that their songs span genres. I feel like there must be four or five different styles in Halazia alone. (Also, I agree. I'm typically not into summery, softer songs or slower ballads. But I actively listen to all of Ateez's songs. In fact, some of my consistent faves fit right into this category!)
Their story/lore is incredible. Sometimes I feel like I understand everything less than most of the members (😂) but I'm alllll about it! It's so cool that they have this one arc. That it's been the same story this whole time. Truly amazing. Concept kings. I'm gonna need a film one day. It's all so cinematic and intriguing.
Ateez, Stray Kids, and Taemin is an AMAZING (and very tempting) line up. But you should definitely hold out. Because then you get to see Ateez for 3 hours and that's 🥰🥺. And you know they actually know what a 'world tours' is. So, it's just a waiting game!
I saw them in London. It's always London for me!
Yessss, I did see the stats! They're grown so much, even in six months. And the first day sales looked amazing! I've been streaming on Spotify and having a great old time. Really, Atiny have done so well. Especially with buying passes for Korean platforms. It was so cute when Wave was number one because everyone was practicing. 🥺
I hope voting goes well and they win most of the music show awards they'll be up for. I want them to see that their efforts pay off at home!
Haha I don't know what questions you'd even ask me really. Best livestream where they were all decending into madness? The best Seonghwa third wheeling Woosan vlive? The closest Hongjoong came to just being DONE with looking after the 99s? 😂😂 Yessss, I'm always ready to chat Ateez tbh. They're the only group I've kept up with the whole time. 🧡
Have you watched their Treasure Film series/show on YouTube yet? I was rewatching it the other day and I forgot how much I love it! So gooood! And funny! 😂
Ah this took ages to answer lol - sorry; I was rearranging my room this weekend 🙃 and my app never notifies me of asks.
Anyways, yeah the cupsleeve was so nice. I'm lucky to live on one side of a pair of decently sized cities with a diverse population here, so we get a handful of nice events (one of the local gay bars hosts a kpop night monthly, for example).
I've been to a cupsleeve for Taemin, Stray Kids, and then I helped my friend host one for OnlyOneOf - they were all really fun but did not even begin to prepare me for the intensity of the Ateez one. I was baffled; the Skz one was held at the same location and it was a graveyard by comparison. I didn't take many pictures bc I was caught up chatting and there was no way to take them without a ton of people in the photo lol - but these are the few from the event;

I agree with you, regarding the global idol title; I think it's really well deserved and is serving them well. They really deserve more notice in KR though; it sucks that they get overlooked just bc of not being a Big 4; if anything people should pay more attention since those are the hidden gems, you know?
Bouncy has a kpop sort of vibe to it though, moreso than some of the other title tracks of theirs I've heard, so hopefully folks pay a little more attention this time around. I heard they got their first win for Bouncy this morning though! So that's something positive.
Halazia was unbelievable; I was impressed when I heard it and even moreso when I saw the m/v. I finally sat down and listened to their entire discography this weekend while doing cleaning and realized I genuinely can't find a skip song with them for the most part. 😭
Also yes!! 100% on a movie - this would make an amazing full length film or hell, even a miniseries; it's such a complex and well written storyline. I'm mad I didn't pick up the diary version of Outlaw bc I need to know what happens next. (I have all 3 versions coming but they won't be here for a while bc they're being sent with my albums from SHINee's comeback at the end of June; I could only afford one of their albums from the store here bc they were so much more expensive than they are in the KR shop I use. >.<)
Seeing the way atiny treat the group and each other and work together is so heartwarming. It's interesting, to have it be largely on the international fans' shoulders to push them to the spotlight in both the wider world and KR; but the teamwork is super fun to see. I haven't been this actively involved in a kpop fandom since I quit doing it for my og group (just stuck mostly to the sidelines, reblogging pretty pictures, etc for my other groups) - but I'm enjoying it so much more so far; I don't feel the same kind of guilty pressure that I've felt elsewhere.
They have so much content too holy - I've been trying to catch up and I feel like I haven't even scraped the surface yet lol - Every time I think I've managed to finish one section I realize there's x or y other things I missed lol. I did not even know the Treasure Film series existed until you mentioned it 😂 - but it looks like M2 did it; I love the games/variety type shows that company has done, so I'm eager to watch it! Thank you for mentioning it!
Rn I'm working my way through Wanteez between the new stuff for these promotions; these guys have done so many variety series jfc lol.
Also Woosan. Bless those two. They are so dumb. I love them so much. I would like to point out, that I did not want them. I specifically pointed out San to my friend when we watched Guerrilla and said "anyone but that one". (He startled me by resembling someone in an unsettling way when I first glanced at him and I didn't like it lol - he doesn't resemble said person now that I recognize them all tho thankfully).
But I apparently had no say in him, since he was the one that kept sticking out in everything and his personality is exactly what I gravitate to in a bias (the big oaf with a loud mouth and a heart of gold, always a little confused but he's got the spirit, scary duality) -- normally I do find a second bias within a few months that vibes with my first, but I didn't even get a say in that since not only did San tell me 'no, I'm right here and you're going to pay attention to me', he did it while dragging that scrappy little devil along by the hand V_V I couldn't just adopt him without Woo. (I was quite disgruntled about that one too - I don't bias visuals or dancers dammit - I have avoided them in most of my groups so far.
Plus! Where's my rapper bias??? I thought I'd add HJ as my second but nope, instead I get the 'friends as far as the altar' Tom and Jerry pair and 6 bias wreckers since none of them can stay in their damn lane for more than a few minutes at a time. 😂 (My friend said that'd happen tho so I can't say I wasn't warned).
(Do you have a bias btw? A favorite mv or performance I (likely) may have missed?)

Thank you for the tag, @wellntruly! Due to the fact that I lived my life as a fool, I didn't write down all the films I watched for the first time in 2024. However, I can post my top nine first watches with little blurbs <3
Hagazussa: A Heathen's Curse (Feigelfeld, 2017) Folk horror film, but the horror really figures most in the isolation of the main character amid the German Alps during the early modern era. Cruelty and ignorance are monsters. Salò, or the 120 Days of Sodom (Pasolini, 1975) The Girls, Guts, and Giallo podcast patreon tier I'm on has extra screenings, and we were treated to a small antifascist film fest on November 7th. I'd been a bit afraid to watch this, but now I can say that it's the best film I saw all year. Notorious for its relentless depiction of rape, forced coprophagia, and other tortures by a powerful few against a captive group who are systematically and brutally un-personed, it is equally beautiful and important. Quietest, most chilling Carmina Burana jumpscare. This will become a rewatch for me. Straight on till Morning (Collinson, 1972) I love a creepy connection between two deranged freaks who want to live out their childhood fairy tale power fantasies. Salvation! (Beth B, 1987) It's the 80s! Things are zany! Televangelism! Rampant sex! Trash maximalism! Obscure alternative tunes! Viggo Mortenson and Exene Cervenka! The cinematography and design are really fantastic. Ganja & Hess (Gunn, 1973) I watched this twice and it's the kind of material that takes multiple viewings, so we'll be back. Trying to describe this movie is a challenge for me. It is immersive, surreal, political, erotic, existential. Marlene Clark is an utter icon, glamorous, haughty, witty and daring, and when she shows a bit of vulnerability? All those qualities captured my heart completely. She deserved more roles and accolades. The Color Wheel (Ross Perry, 2011) This is a gem. Uncomfortable in many ways -- the brother and sister leads are both obnoxious characters. Their relationship is the point, though, and wow does it pay off. I was deeply moved. The incestuous romance develops with surprising tenderness given how abrasive the duo can be. American Fiction (Jefferson, 2023) I went into this film knowing nothing about it, and it was solidly amazing. Funny and bleak. You get the broken lovingness of families and a scathing satirical treatment of racism in the publishing industry. Design for Living (Lubitsch, 1933) What a romp! Everyone knows about this one on tumblr, because it's a Pre-Code throuple romcom. Delightful chemistry between Frederic March, Miriam Hopkins, and Gary Cooper. Everyone should watch Lubitsch romantic comedies. The Destroying Angel (De Rome, 1976) From the brief age of arthouse hardcore gay pornography, this is a lurid, trippy sex tragedy very loosely based on a tale of terror by Poe. A priest takes leave of his vows to explore his desire for abjection and transcendence through sex with men. He also tries some mushrooms, to varying effects. I found it unsettling and hot. I want a proper recording of it, but have had no luck finding one. If you get the pinklabel streaming service, you can watch it.
This was fun, and now I'm making sure to write down a list as I watch movies in 2025.
I'd love to know what everyone's favorite movies are, blurb or photos not necessary!
I was tagged by @memory-for-trifles for my top first-time watches in 2024 of movies not from 2024, and also by @door for my nine favorite movies of the year, which I am combining to nine non-recent releases. Thank you buddies!!
Also NOT thank you, as it seems I watched 190 new to me, pre-2024 movies last calendar year, and rated fully 45 of them five stars.
....so here is a representative nine categories (blood! tears!!), and then the whole list of older movies that fucking rule.

Disney characters as zodiac signs : Mulan
Hello everyone ! I'm back back back again with another analysis of a character. This time we'll do Mulan. It was such a pleasure to rewatch that movie again. Such a gem. This will be solely based on the animated movie, as I didn't watch the live action and I'm not planning to. E n j o y !
Sun sign ☀️
When I saw Mulan, the first thing I could notice about her is how she was using her mind and intellect to solve the many obstacles she faced. Quick on her feet and adaptable, I feel like Mulan really shows the side of Gemini many people refuse to see. I know there's a stereotype of Geminis being really talkative, bubbly and exhuberating and that simply cannot be applied to Mulan. But, there's also a kind of Gemini which all of that mental stimulation and energy is kept to themselves (and turns into overthinking lmao) and I feel like that can be applied to her. She is always thinking of a way to make things more efficient and better. For example, when Shang gave the task to retrieve the arrow at the top of the pillar, after using strength and failing, she decided to use logic and physics to retrieve it and succeeded. Every single time she succeeded in the movie was because she used her quick thinking to solve the problem. I will get more into this in the Mercury segment.
2. Moon sign 🌙
Another reason why Mulan is not the stereotypical bubbly Gemini could be explain by her moon, which to me, is definitely in Capricorn. Mulan has a deep fear of disappointing people. She knows she is "not like the other girls" and that her family might lose face because of her. This fear of being her family's disappointment haunts her, and because of that she is extremely hard on herself. When Shang and the rest of the army discovers she's in fact a woman, she immediately puts the blame on herself and gets disappointed in herself. Capricorn moons tend to put a lot of pressure and responsibility on their shoulders and fail to recognize how others are sometimes to blame when things go south. Another trait of Cap moon that I could see in Mulan is how she seems to believe that her worth is linked to her accomplishment, which in fact, makes her always a little bit insecure. She is also not really the emotional type, as this could be explained not only by the mix of a an Air sun and Earth moon, but also Cap moons in general having a really hard time opening up. Sure, we see her cry in the movie, but it's after feeling like she let her whole family down. She pretty much keeps to herself and tries to push through, otherwise.
3. Mercury sign 🔍
Obviously, Mulan is a Gemini sign. This should come as no surprise. Like I stated earlier, she uses logic and wit to solve and analyse life's problems. She is also really quick on her feet and trusts her intellect enough to go through her ideas. For example, on the snowy battlefield where her army was trying to defend Shan Yu, she thought of aiming the cannon at the peak of the mountain to create an avalanche and kill all the soliders, instead of only aiming at Shan Yu. She also doesn't really plan things out and just follows the flow of her intuition, which makes her pretty impulsive. Her deciding to simply dress as a man and join the army was most definitely on a whim. That's pretty Gemini to me.
4. Mars sign 🔥
Determinate, gritty, courageous and headstrong, Mulan is the definition of an Aries mars. She simply does not give up on a task, not matter how sucky she is to begin with. After all, at the army training, she was the worst soldier and she just kept trying and trying despite the humiliation and bullying. Also quite funny that she succeeded in retrieving the arrow right after she got kicked out of the army. That damn Aries' ego. If there's one thing you cannot do with a Aries is tell them what to do. They do things on their own terms.
5. Venus sign 💗
A side of Mulan that is less seen in the movie is her sweet and caring side. She reminds me of a Taurus Venus in the way she is willing to give literally everything to the one she loves. A side of Taurus venus that is not talked about enough is how they do always want to look good for the people they love (romantically and platonically) which I feel can be applied to Mulan. She wants to make her father proud. She wants to prove to Shang that she is in fact, a good soldier. Also extremely protective and loyal, she never lets people down until the very end. Even after being literally abandoned in the snow by Shang and his army, she comes back to save them (and all of China too, lmao). Although it takes quite some time for Taurus Venus to actually get attached, once they are, they never ever let go.
6. Rising and her chart 🅰️
Cancer rising
Reserved, protective of the ones she loves with an introverted nature.
Sun in 12th
Sun in 12th makes her more prone to isolation, self reflection. She needs to be aware of hidden enemies (the army turned on her because of her gender even after winning the war and saving Shang). Prone to self sacrifice (I mean, this one is obvious).
Moon in 7th
Very adaptable to people's need. Depends on people's validation and actively seek for it. The people in her life are really important to her, to the point where they influence her happiness and feeling of security.
Mercury in 12th
Extremely secretive. Needs to be self aware, or the mind can turn against her. Deep need to reach self fulfillment.
Mars in 10th
Extreme intensity (added points for it being in Aries) in going after her goals. Career that involve sports.
Venus in 11th
Love is directed at the community. She feels good when surrounded by the people she loves. Community is a big aspect for her and is never neglected for the self.
-----------------------
That is all for me today, y'all. which character should i do next ? i really don't know. I started watching Pocahontas, but I got sick. I couldn't finish it, I hate how they romanticize the whole thing. So i'm open to suggestions.

Okay so I do have a certain habit of creating mutiple sketches and never finishing them so I decided to post them and add some context as well because why not?
1. This drawing is just a ship art from the cartoon pilot of 3 Dog Band which was a pilot that submited along with some other pilots on a contest to see which one would make it to a show and Regular Show won. I did watch Regular Show but I was unaware there was a competition with also other pilots and that 3 Dog Band even existed, I rrally like the concept and my favorite is the german blonde dog seen in my ship art with a random fox lady that was present dancing in the pilot. The pilot is avaliable on youtube too for those more curious:
https://youtu.be/SNx8WwiOwzM
2.
This is another ship art this time from french comics named "Les Nombrils"(The Bellybuttons in english)which is about 3 friends and their dramas Jenny,Vicky and Karine. Its really good to read and I have read it online and love it, and this girl in blue Vicky is in love with the goth girl that her parents forbid her to be with because they are homophobic. If u want to really undersand anything that I just said the better to do is to read the actual comics:
https://readcomiconline.li/Comic/The-Bellybuttons/Issue-1?id=57950
I have also wanted to read another french comic but so far I cant see to find "Le blog de Tamara" anywhere online in english so, guess Ill have to wait.
3.
Not much to explain, I created a SU gem called "moonstone"the basic backstory about gems that live on the moon completly unaware of human life, they also seem to be directly created by moon dust and rocks. However, they are not happy about the regime in the gem empire and decided to stay hidden on the moon.
4.
A sketch about 2 of my OCs that I lost inspiration to continue, they were dacing, they ar a sheep who is a singer named Hilda and a mean wolf called Arthur who is a mafia boss and rules over the city(this takes places in the 50-60s). Hilda is requested to sing at a night bar in visit of Arthur who is considered someone really important and dangerous, so Hilda is forced to sing and Arthur begans to have interest in her and later fall in love with her.
(Not gonna give up spoilers about the full story but there is a plot twist in it)
5.
I like Euphoria and Metal family and once I saw the actor of Cassie doing a photoshoot to Paper Magazine I could only think of Lydia so I decided to draw Lydia as her. They look realy alike.
6.
This might sound immature but when I was little I used to watch a lot o LPS and even own some (I used to own 50 to 60 LPS but ater gave them away as I grew up), and recently rewatched the whole LPS Popular series and still liked it.I was suppose to make Savannah and Brooklyn as human in their prom outfits(I also ran out of inspiration on this one after finding out theres a massive cliffhanger and the series were left unfinished 3 years ago and to this day theres not much information about it continuing ever again so.)
7.
I really like Pickles, especially the fem version made by @mtllica (I love their art) and all they make about Pickles HCs and AUs is perfect <3 inclusing their octopus/demon versions of Pickles liKE PLEASE-
9,10,11.
Its all SNB Pickles BBECAUSE IDK I LOVE HIM SO MUCH? AND IDK I HAVE BEEN TRYING TO MAKE A SPECIFIC POSE WITH HIM AND FALLING AND I JUST LISTEN "Lost in the fre BY THE WEEKND AND I JUST IMAGINE PREKLOK PICKLES SINGING AND SEDUNCING PREKLOK NATHAN SOMETIME BEFORE PICKLES QUIT THE BAND AND THEY JOINED DETHKLOK?? ?? ok Ill shut up now...
11.
Just a silly sketch of my character sleeping :)

*sees your tags about being salty about suf spinel*
YOU CAN'T JUST SAY THAT AND NOT SHARE YOUR SALT /LH
Okay, but I'm warning you, you asked for it.
LONG POST WARNING.
LIKE A REALLY, REALLY LONG POST WARNING.
Dimonds456 Presents: How They Did My Baby Dirty: An SUTM and SUF Analysis on Steven and Spinel (Told by a Progressively More and More Angry Narrator)
THE CONTEXT: There was a post talking about how you think a character will fix everything, but then they wind up making it works. My tags were "#*looks at suf spinel* #I am still salty about that like the bitch I am fghdjskgfa"
Grab some water, guys.
Let's start by talking about Steven for a moment. In the original show, when we were following him as a 12-14-year-old, we watched as he built up trauma and then learned how to hide it expertly well, to the point that most of the audience didn't even realize he was struggling.
You can actually pinpoint the seconds he makes those decisions, too. The best example is in "The Test," when he's storming up to the gems. He's pissed. His fists are clenched, he's got that anime eye shadow overlay on his face, he's frowning, all that. the Crystal Gems are clapping for him and lying to his face, and he KNOWS they are because he overheard them talking about how it was "impossible for him to fail" that test (- Garnet).
And yet... he also overheard them saying that they're just trying their best. They don't know what he needs. They never really have. No one is sure. So, Steven realizes that by picking a fight, he would just be making it worse for them because they would know they messed up, and nothing gets solved, and everyone gets more depressed and Amethyst and Pearl go back to fighting each other and- well, you get the picture. He doesn't have a full understanding of what's going on, so his kid brain went "so I can either be angry at them and cause problems, or I can tell them I did a good job to make them happy."
"I can lie to make them happy."
He storms down there angry, still mulling this decision over. He drops to the floor, frowning and pissed, and says "I can't believe you guys." He is so close to yelling at them, and yet, when he looks up at them...
"That was so... INSANE!"
You never would have been able to tell. It was right there. That moment. And then he never stops. For the ENTIRE REST of the series, he NEVER STOPS. He puts the Crystal Gems above himself every time. Think Rose's Scabbard, The Message, The Return/Jailbreak. The Cluster. Peridot. Dealing with Jasper. The zoo arc (ESPECIALLY the zoo arc). Aquamarine. Then pretty much the entirety of Season 5.
(NOTE: I went back and rewatched that scene for the screenshot. There is a blink-and-you'll-miss-it lip tremble in there too! D,: )
He lives for the people around him, and not for himself. Almost never for himself.
Put a pin in that.
Now, let's look at his maturity. People thought that was just him being mature, right? That he grew up. No. That was not it at all. He was learning from his own behaviors as well as the people around him, and building up this idea that he had to "fight to be everything that everyone wants [him] to be when [he's] grown" (- Steven, the extended intro).
Yes, he matured, but not because of that. He started making various decisions to benefit the group that oftentimes he wasn't fully comfortable with, but something he believed would be better for everyone.
Put a pin in that.
Then, later in Future, we see it all manifest. He is selfless to a fault, to the point that he can't think of himself in a positive light in the sense that he's good. We see it a couple of times, but especially in "Prickly Pair," when he vents to Cactus Steven about everything that happened. He feels useless, which is taking a toll on his mental health.
"Why do I need to be needed?" He needs to be needed because that's everything he was as a kid. His entire IDENTITY rests on his ability to help other people, no matter what happens to him. He literally sacrificed himself for them countless times (the big one of course being the Aquamarine incident), and now as a teenager, his whole sense of self is wrapped up in this need to get up and do something to make the world better.
And when he can't make the world better, his world falls apart.

Put a pin in that.
Now, let's talk about Spinel, the moment we've all been waiting for.
Spinel, as a gem, was made specifically to be a friend. That is her niche, and her purpose. Her reason for existing. At first, she and Pink Diamond got along very well, as shown in the flashbacks right before Drift Away plays (I headcanon she has illusion powers and was literally projecting her trauma, but that's a completely different post).
She and Pink vibed together for who knows how long, until one day, Pink started to not like being around Spinel anymore, finding her annoying and childish. We don't know what really caused the switch, just that it did happen (but of course, I have headcanons for that, too). Spinel never realized until it was FAR too late.

Steven actually describes his younger self as annoying at one point during the Diamond Days arc, when he decides to throw the ball, so I'm legally allowed to make this comparison.
Steven and Spinel were the SAME. They were both young and dumb, and something that at least a few people found annoying. People put up with their BS though, since they cared about them. But, while Steven realized this and matured because of it (or bottled up his emotions, to each their own), Spinel never did. She never matured. She was never given a chance.
In the movie, we saw her as a child, and watched as she played with Pink and never tried to be or do anything else, to the point that Pink Diamond thought to realize she might be struggling (and maybe Spinel didn't, either!).
She lives for the people around him, and not for herself. Almost never for herself.
And when she can't be friends with this one person, her world falls apart.
Sound familiar? It should. I literally pulled from things I said earlier lol.
Spinel and Steven are mirror reflections of each other. Reset!Spinel is 14-year-old Steven, completely devoting her entire self to one idea. Steven's was helping others no matter what, Spinel's was serving Pink no matter what. Spinel is like a combination of 14 and 12-year-old Steven in this sense, honestly. Goofy, without a care in the world, except one thing: the people around her. She would do anything for Pink, just as Steven would do anything for his family.
Now, Pink Diamond left Spinel. We all know this story. She left Spins there in the garden for 6,000 years because she grew more mature and started a rebellion, effectively forgetting about this one gem she kinda stopped caring about standing there.
Personally, I don't think Pink had any malicious or even intentional intent in that, but this ain't about her. This is about how Spinel continued to sacrifice herself for Pink, even when Pink didn't need her to anymore. She wanted to please Pink 24/7, all day every day, to the point she self-sacrificed and stood perfectly still for her for millenia.
Now, back to Steven. The gems don't need him anymore in Future, right? They've all grown up and matured and headed off towards their own futures, effectively stranding him alone in terms of self-identity and self-worth. But he stays there, ready to assist at the drop of a hat, or- in Future's case- the call of a phone.
Episode 6 anyone? The one everyone says shouldn't be in Future? That it should have been cut to allow more focus on Steven himself? The fusion episode? YEAH. THAT. He is running himself RAGGED to try and help others, to give himself a purpose. He is self-sacrificing. (He's a professional, don't worry. /j)

Steven metaphorically planted his feet down and decided that he was going to devote himself to the people around him.
Spinel's feet were literally tied down soon after she made that very same decision.
Okay, enough with the backstory. Time for the salt.
In Future, Steven is at his lowest low. He is running to the Diamonds for help, to see if there is SOMETHING they can do to help him. And we first see Spinel.
Spinel has been through the ringer on a lot of the same mental problems Steven himself is facing. She self-isolated, watched as everyone grew up and left her, and then began to lash out because of it. She understands what he's going through. We even see her concerned as Steven starts to tell her why he's there.
Spinel takes him from Diamond to Diamond, until he's running out of White's room in a blind panic. Spinel is able to catch up with him, and Steven realizes the same. SHE GETS IT. He turns around and says "Hey, you used to have vengeful thoughts!"
Spinel replies "Ohhhhh yeah, but I don't have 'em anymore."
"How did you make them stop?"
She then goes on to sing Change to him, effectively cutting that conversation short.
On paper, that sounds very in-character for her. She's goofy! And that is what worked for her! But the problem is that they had to dumb her down in order to make that character decision work. In the movie, she was shown to be observant and able to put two and two together, even if she often jumps to conclusions (see her being the one to figure out that the gems needed to remember their "pieces," as she remembers the Garden, her re-realizing what Pink did, and her meltdown later when she reactivates the injector).
Spinel is smart. It should have been in character for her to realize that Steven was panicking just as she had been, and needed to be talked to gently. But no. Instead, she starts belting out Change, which given Steven's situation, would not work for him.
At the very least, she would have started doing little tricks or started trying to get him to join a game, which would have taken his mind off of it (to her anyways, that wouldn't have worked either), which then could have prompted further discussion.
Then, once they finally start talking, Spinel could have been able to share some legitimate advise. She was hurt and lashed out. What worked for her was opening up to others and letting them in, learning to trust again (which Steven also has problems with- he can't trust that the Gems won't break down the second he turns his back. Trust does NOT equal love, there is no doubt he loves them to no end), and allowing other people in.
That is what Steven needed, too. He needed to let his guard down and just talk to someone. Sure, Spinel was not going to be a fix-all, but she could have at least offered some insight on what to do.
She UNDERSTANDS him. They are a reflection of each other.
But instead of offering help, Spinel made it worse. She was dumbed down to allow the rest of Future to happen, to make Steven feel even worse. Because- and here's the kicker- because the one person who MIGHT understand him doesn't, that means there's no hope for him.

At least, that's how he sees it. And so, the denial- and "Everything's Fine"- begins.
Here's the thing, though; they DIDN'T NEED to make that decision. If the Crew wanted to have Spinel not understand Steven, then draw the line of her being a Gem from Era 1, used to the Diamonds shattering people.
Steven has killed Jasper and revived her at this point, so maybe Spinel offers that at least he's trying to get better, just like the other Diamonds! See, they're doing so great now! And then that makes him feel worse since he IS trying to do better, but is only failing, while the Diamonds- who were MADE to be nasty dictators- are doing better than him.
The Diamonds shattered a lot of people, and they're doing better than Steven, who has only shattered one person, and not even on purpose. How horrible is that?
Then boom. THERE'S your angst, with a much smarter, more helpful Spinel.
Look, I knew going in that Spinel wasn't going to be able to help. The finale had to happen somehow, and we hadn't seen Wormy Boi yet. I have always been a storng believer of the corrupted Steven theory, so I knew it was bound to happen. But I was hoping that Spinel would at least try. But she really didn't. She just brushed him off, offering really loose advise that didn't even fit his situation and thinking that would be enough.
No. It's not.
I can see where the Crew was coming from. I still love that episode, and I love seeing Spins in it (until that exact moment). This is probably the only thing in SU that genuinely gets me mad. Or, well, maybe not mad, but definitely annoyed and- you guessed it- salty.
I have an unfinished fic where I kinda delve into Spinel's head for that episode called "A New Start". If you really want my thoughts on where Spinel's head was at, there's a bit in there that really explains it. In the fic, Steven decides to rejuvenate himself and brings Spinel along with him, and that's all the context you need for this.
I cannot explain that moment in the climax of the episode, though. Maybe she thought it would make him feel better, or that maybe he really did just need to open his eyes and see the error of his ways (which doesn't make sense, he KNOWS what he did). Maybe she thought that being silly would help somehow.
But you'd think she'd learn from her time with Pink as she grew more annoyed with her, but apparently not. Or maybe she would realize for a second that being loud and annoying was bad. Or maybe she doesn't learn.
Either way, it- and she- was dumb. And they did my baby dirty.

apologies in advance for an absolute essay about the "fusion is sex" thing in your inbox;; theres a tldr paragraph at the bottom but i encourage you and anyone else to read through the whole thing
if we can all agree that, despite what lily claims, the violate arc in pokemadhouse is an allegorical rape (a severe breaching of privacy and boundaries for the sake of creating a "mating bond," a concept in the comics universe that isnt necessarily a sexual relationship but that brings that idea to mind outside of the comics universe based on the name/context), then cant we agree that the sardonyx arc in steven universe is an allegorical rape? i think that were hesitant to call it that because its such a strong word and a harsh concept for a show like steven universe, and we want to call out lily for being wrong or inappropriate at any opportunity, but the fact is: pearl violated garnets trust and her boundaries to fuse, with fusion as a whole being a representation of romantic/intimate relationships, among others (garnets is romantic love, malachites is unhealthy/toxic/abusive relationships, id argue smoky quartz is like a sibling relationship—and along those lines, we see steven fuse with ALL of the crystal gems, his surrogate mothers/sisters, and his own dad, so its safe to say at least that fusion is not ONLY an allegory for romantic/intimate relationships)
i think that lilys language when describing it ("pearl rapes garnet and excuses it by saying garnet is just so stoic and she wanted her to step on her," paraphrased) is pretty reductive and insensitive, but based on the actual content of the arc and what other analysts, particularly black ones, have said about it, i think its a perfectly justifiable way to describe that arc
pearl, a character with no strong racial coding in any direction but who can be seen as white based on that fact plus her white skin, violated a character with strong and intentional black coding, for the sake of her own ego. she used a black woman, with little regards for that black womans feelings and boundaries regarding fusion (a deeply personal and intimate thing for that black woman, whether we see it as explicitly a sex allegory or not), for her own gain. to a lot of people, this speaks way too strongly to the idea of a white woman using a black woman for sexual and personal satisfaction while not recognizing or ignoring the black womans personhood and ability to consent (pearl lied to garnet about needing to fuse to form sardonyx to "stop peridot," even though pearl was the one committing the acts she blamed on peridot). i think its the lying part that pushes it into a rape allegory more than not, since pearl was withholding information about why she wanted to fuse and garnet could not meaningfully consent to the fusion because she was deliberately not given all of the information. garnet herself says pearl tricked her, so it wasnt the act of fusion that bothered garnet, it was pearl lying about why they were fusing and garnet feeling betrayed that pearl gave her false pretenses
i think lily is wrong about A LOT of things—i rewatched the steven universe is garbage video the other day and so much of it is just so… wrong, or blatantly misunderstood and under-researched and charged by a personal parasocial hatred of rebecca sugar—but i dont think shes wrong in the conclusion she draws about the sardonyx arc. mostly because i personally think shes just parroting black analysts talking points about it again, like she did in the original video, only this time shes being more careful to not explicitly steal racially charged words from black analysts (unironically calling sugilite a brute and "ape-like" in the original video because she maybe saw black analysts describe her that way… yikes)—she even says in the original video that she depends on other people to explain a characters coding to her because she just doesnt see it, so id be completely unsurprised if we learned she didnt think the sardonyx arc was a white woman raping a black woman until she saw black analysts critiquing it through that lens, because SOMEHOW she just. didnt see garnet as black. until someone told her. which is pretty fucking stupid and unobservant of her imo
tldr: i dont think fusion is sex in a 1:1 way, and i dont think we can say lily does either just because she talked about one instance where fusion can be read that way. lily DOES have an issue with oversexualizing things and projecting sex onto stuff that doesnt have it, but in this particular case, i dont think thats whats happening: i think shes just parroting what black analysts have said/felt about this arc. black viewers felt betrayed by this arc because a black woman is shown to suffer at the hands of a white womans insecurity, and the black woman is forced by the narrative to not only accept the white womans white tears as justification for being violated, but also forced to commit the intimate act again under the threat of death (forming sardonyx to escape a shrinking room). pearl and the narrative stripped garnet of her emotional agency and ability to consent to an intimate act, twice, and its a MAJOR violation whether we choose to see fusion as sex or not
i feel like this is still kinda reductive of both narratives.
on pokemadhouse G formed a mating bond with a sleeping underage CLO, who she knew had a crush on her at the time, to get what she wanted. but what was what she wanted? to avoid death, which means that the author really sat down to think about a excuse in which this violation, this metaphorical rape, was actually a perfectly understandable and justifiable decision for G to take.
to drive this point further, LO later writes her own fiancee at the time to tell her to go forgive her abuser or else she'll become the same as her abuser, who in multiple other ocassions is described as a monster who almost destroyed LO. regardless of what you think about LIzzy and how truthful LO is about her retelling of the events, that is the story we're meant to take as true for this fictional universe. after CLO is confronted with this abuse apologist rethoric, she agrees completely with it and tells G that they'll be fine. from that moment forward no one talks again about the metaphorical rape. you could miss the entire arc entirely and nothing of value would be lost, because nothing of weight changed because of it.
take into considering that this whole thing of life spans, bonds and everything else are things that LO completely made up. she made them up to force this situation to happen and then refused to deal with it's consequences.
it's not just about a "violation of trust", it's the whole situation, it's the way that it's written to try to reframe this "violation" as a necesary thing that had to happen or at least a reasonable decision to make, to then later framme the victimas an actual monster for rightfully wanting some space from her rapist.
there's no real way in which you can argue that this isn't a rape metaphor, since mating is already a pretty explicitely sexual term, a term that LO deliberately choose to use, and G deliberately took advantage of a kid she knew had a crush on her during a time where she couldn't consent at all. at some point G actually explains that the mating couldn't have worked at all if CLO didn't had this crush, which just pushes further the rape apologia with the old excuse that "she wanted it all along"...
after all of this, G then continues to keep pushing her romantic feelings onto CLO, no matter how many times she says no. the narrative keeps pushing this romance situation between a rapist and her victim, to later have a brief moment where CLO admits she does still love her rapist but can't have a relationship because it's illegal... rather than because that was the creature that raped her as a kid and permanently modified her mind for the rest of her life, so she never has any privacy on her own head or can be free from G.
the narrative tell us that CLO, the child on this situation, would have agreed to that mating bond (a life changing permanent change she could never take back without killing someone) if only she had known about it.
all of this should be the worst nightmare of any victim. to reduce all of this to simply a mating bond done without consent and not look all the other narrative elements that actively push for a rape apologist conclusion is a disservice.
if we want to add a race perspective... how does it look if we take into account that CLO is supposed to be a indigenous child while this was happening to her and G could be codified as white, precisely because of her lack of any other racial coding?
as for SU, i feel like this conclusion "the black woman is forced by the narrative to not only accept the white womans white tears as justification for being violated, but also forced to commit the intimate act again under the threat of death (forming sardonyx to escape a shrinking room). pearl and the narrative stripped garnet of her emotional agency and ability to consent to an intimate act, twice, and its a MAJOR violation whether we choose to see fusion as sex or not" it's not entirely accurate to the situation. this is my own personal reading of the show so i'm not claiming any of this to be objective or the entire true. i absolutely see what you mean, anon, and i understand what those analysts go for... but if we're going to make a direct comparison between that episode and the arc violate, we have to first see that they're not actually comparable at all.
violate's ultimate message is "an author wrote a situation where a full grown adult had to take advantage of a child for the sake of saving her own life and ultimately this was for the better because the rapist and the child became best friends, so the child now grown up has to forgive her rapist because else she's going to be a hateful monster. the rapist only did what she needed to do and any accountability is cruelty towards her."
the message of that arc is "pearl did a horrible thing that really hurt garnet, no matter if her own inferiority complex (born from being created to be a literal slave) got the best of her, there's no excuse for it, and she has to learn to do better" (a message that it's literally brought back again by having jasper wishing to fuse with lapiz so she could feel greater than herself). there's at least three more episodes that deal with the aftermath of it. in one of them garnet actually unfuses because the two part of her can't decide how to even feel about the situation: Ruby rightfully wants to be angry, while Sapphire chooses to numb herself because it's easier than deal with the pain. then on the episode where pearl and garnet fuse again, that happens three episodes later, the fusion is undone just as quickly because it was made for practical reasons... as actual fusion are treated as in homeworld and they both grow up understanding it, so they're both familiarized with the idea. it's not an intimate act, nobody treats it like that, but done purely for survival and mutual agreement.
before that we have multiple characters commenting on how tense the situation is at home, so we can infer clearly that garnet absolutely is allowed to still be upset during this period of time and nobody tries to convince her to let it go any faster, especially not for Pearl's sake. garnet explicitely tells pearl "i can't forgive you, there are consequences for your actions" and they both agree that what Pearl needs to do is to stop trying to make everything right immediately, and just let things keep their course. they'll be fine but not now and not because pearl is sad about it.
even when sapphire says to ruby that they have to forgive pearl, the story still makes a point for Sapphire have a moment to realize that's not correct, that Ruby is allowed to be angry and upset now if she feels like it, and it was bad from her to expect her to get over it quickier.
i already saw a story where all of those things actually do happens and it was on pokemadhouse, written by the same woman who claims to care about this while having multiple allegations of people having their consent and boundaries disregarded by her.
i have my own issues with SU, and problems with this arc as well, but that doesn't matter because whatever Sugar did on the show, including this, is still miles better handled that the mess that LO wrote in pokemadhouse and she defends to this day.

Already here with another chapter. Much shorter, but last one was long, so what do you expect?
au by @hermitcraftheadcanons and @helleborusangel gets tagged in my writing.
Thousands of people waited on bated breath as they tuned into what was likely to be the next episode of Hermitcraft Recap. Pixlriffs and Zloy had already made a public announcement that they had no idea about the new season or what happened to the hermits, only learning when they themselves watched the day one recap.
In fact, the two of them were on their couch, ready to watch another episode. Their hope was that this was some sort of elaborate prank and this week there would be no weekly recap and instead a reveal. But luck didn’t seem to be on their side, as a new clip started to play.
As a clip of Joe and Beef seeing a giant structure that had suddenly appeared started to play, both the recappers got notebooks ready. The intro started just the same as before, Zloy quickly writing down the names of Noah, Goofball and Valentine so they could look into their player records later.
From there, they again went from hermit to hermit, recapping all that had happened, though there was one thing that stood out to the recappers. In a few clips, a new structure was featured, one near most of the hermits. But it was completely ignored, other than either Noah or Goofball saying the hermit had ‘found something’ and then not elaborating.
A worrying detail was the fact that mob hybrids seemed to be acting more towards their instincts, such as Zedaph munching on wheat and Ren attacking Etho when he was hit. The other that a few of the hermits were gaining traits of the area they were stuck in, like Wels growing tusks or Bdubs becoming black like the void.
Speaking of those two hermits, both of them had found someone new. Wels of course had found his evil copy in the crimson forest, but the footage was cut off before he could be talked about much. Bdubs on the other hand had found someone hanging onto what looked like a mix between an end gateway and the things that had been appearing near others. Again, they couldn’t get much of the hermit’s reaction due to a cut taking them elsewhere, but it was enough to take note of, getting a description of a person in pink armor and white hair.
There were also two other new people who hadn’t interacted with other hermits, though these people the new recappers actually covered, them being Pearlescentmoon and Geminitay. Apparently they weren’t there on day one, but had been there most of the week. Gem was in a better situation than a number of the hermits, not being stuck somewhere or in a death loop, though she was still stranded who knew how far from spawn.
Pixl and Zloy took as many notes as they could, then the presenters said the thing they wanted to hear. “Now, rolling things back a little, some things have appeared at everyone’s spawn, the question is what they are.”
“With a few minor exceptions, every player has had these pillars appear at their spawn made of different blocks depending on the spawn.” Goofball was speaking, explaining the structures. “For example, in the deep dark, Xisuma’s pillar is made of deepslate. Meanwhile Hypno’s has birch and honeycomb.”
“Right now, the pillars only show each person’s spawn,” Noah picked up. “But over time they may lead to something more. Though right now, there are three exceptions.” Noah paused as there was a little bit of whispering. “Right. Four exceptions. The first two of these four are the most important, those being Beef and Joe’s pillars.”
“As you saw.” Goofball spoke up again. “The two of them found a large tower in the middle of spawn that was not there before. The pair briefly explored the tower to see what was inside, finding a parkour course leading upwards. Instead of following that up, they tried to build up with little success, and shortly after found a number of their harder to find items missing.” And the audio paused to show a clip of Beef and Joe finding all their diamonds and other similarly rare items gone.
“Possibly in the future they’ll try getting up there again. But eh, who knows when that will be. And with that marks the end of today’s Hermitcraft Recap. I was Toon Noah-”
“And I was Mysterious Goofball and our writer was Pin Valentine. If you’d like to see original content made by us, you can find us if you already know where to look.”
“Don’t forget to give this show a good rating and tune in next week for the next episode of Hermitcraft Recap. Thank you all so much for watching and goodb-”
The recappers had already both looked up at the television when the outro started, so many questions still left unanswered. If they hadn’t, they would have suddenly looked up when the audio cut out. Though it seemed to have stopped, the panorama of footage from the new hermitcraft season, if it could be called that, was still playing. Zloy was about to get up and check their sound when there was suddenly another noise from the tv, the sound of a crash that seemed to come from off camera.
Then one of the new recapping pair spoke up. “What are you doing here? Look, if you’re angry about-”
“Angry? Why would I be angry?” A new voice spoke up. It was familiar, but for the life of them, neither Pixlriffs nor Zloy could figure out who it was. “No, it’s a wonderful idea! In fact I want to help out with your recording next week. I assume you have general scripts for the upcoming events, yes?”
“I mean, yeah.” Goofball spoke. “But shouldn’t you-”
“Great. Now I think I want to talk about these player files. They shouldn't be- oh, you’re still recording, aren’t you? Shut that off.”
And a moment later, the episode finally finished, leaving Pixl and Zloy sitting quietly on the couch with their notebooks.
“Pixl, you were recording this, right?”
“Yeah. Want me to replay it?” He asked Zloy, who nodded. Pixl pulled up the recordings and replayed the recap episode, only to find it very different from before. The entire video was now replaced with a black screen and purple text scrolling across the screen.
‘Sorry for the inconvenience, but this episode cannot be rewatched. -Xelqua.’
“I’m guessing we want to add that one to the player list.”
“Already writing it down Pix. We’re taking this up the ladder tomorrow, right?”
Pixlriffs nodded. “At this point, it might be better to go now.”
