Three Little Words
Summary: “Well, this has been lovely,” Astarion said, making his way to the door leading back into the inn proper. “Anything else we should know before we head off to save the day?” He was already halfway out the door, not bothering to wait for an answer, clearly trying to make a stealthy exit.  You eyed Halsin, who nodded and retrieved the rogue by his arm before he could leave, closing the door behind both of them for good measure. “Let me go, you humongous imbecile!” Astarion pounded his free arm against Halsin’s chest before Halsin released him and refused to let him move a muscle towards the door. Astarion huffed and crossed his arms, turning his nose up at the rest of you. “Is he okay?” Isobel asked.  “This is relatively normal behavior from him, actually,” Karlach said. OR Astarion accidentally says something nice, then acts like an idiot for the rest of the day.

a/n: PART 7 IS ALIIIIIIIIIVE!!! Thank you for waiting so patiently for this one, I had more planned for it but decided to cut it in half since I already yap too much as it is. I wanted this chapter to be a fresh enough take on the beginning of Act 2, and I hope you all enjoy! This one gets really sitcom-y at certain points which was a blast to write and I hope you have a blast reading! Part 8 is already in the works and I'm VERY excited to share that one with you all!! You awoke to an empty bed. 
Drearily and with a tired moan, your arm flung out to search blindly in the dark, trying to make sense of your surroundings. Slowly, it came back to you - you’d made it to an inn in the Shadow Cursed Lands. You’d shared a passionate night with Astarion. Perhaps the vampire whose arms you were sure you’d fallen asleep in had rolled off the bed in the night? You inched your body to the edge of the bed, hanging your head over the side and blinking rapidly to get your eyes to adjust to the darkness. 
Nope. No trancing elf. Just a loose floorboard from the night before. 
You flopped dramatically onto your back, staring up at the ceiling. Couldn’t vampires technically hang from ceilings? Was it possible Astarion had somehow sleep�� vampired? And somehow found himself snoozing upside down on the ceiling?
No, that was stupid, of course he wasn’t on the ceiling. Though you did squint and stare above you for longer than you would ever admit to anyone. 
Exhaling quietly, you sat up on your arms to scan the rest of the room before your eyes landed on a silhouette hunched in front of the drawn curtains of the room’s large window. 
Astarion was muttering quietly, his arm bent behind his back. “I… F… or is it an E? Is it even a letter?” You heard him sigh and saw his frame straighten fractionally. “What damn language is this?”
You half smiled affectionately, sitting up fully against the pillows. 
“Need some help writing a sonnet, Volo?” You swung your legs over the side of the bed and turned to face him.
Astarion jumped. “Ah!” You heard a loud crash as you saw his darkened form trip backwards over your discarded backpack.
“Astarion!” you cried, springing up from the bed and joining him on the ground. “Are you alright?” You brushed your knuckles over his cheek as he groaned lowly.
His eyes were shut tight in mild pain, but they opened after a moment to blink up at you. When he saw the concerned look on your face, he sat up quickly and backed away from you until his back made contact with your overturned backpack.
You frowned. “What’s wrong?”
Astarion smiled awkwardly. “Oh nothing, darling.” After a second, he said your name softly. 
You narrowed your eyes and stood up, striking a match and lighting the candle on the table parallel to the bed. “I don’t believe you.”
He was staring at you in a way that gave you the sense he wasn’t listening. 
“Hello?” you asked, snapping your fingers. 
Astarion shook his head, regaining focus. “Apologies, dear, you caught me by surprise, that’s all.”
You crossed your arms and smiled. “That little spill of yours kind of gave that much away.”
Astarion rose to his feet and rubbed his backside. “Yes, well…” He held his upper arm awkwardly and avoided meeting your eye. Your brow furrowed, but he continued talking. “I’ve… been tracing the scars on my back with my fingers, trying to read them by touch, but I can’t. They may as well be written in Rashemi.” 
There was something weird about his body language. Like he was trying to hide something from you, but you decided to focus on what he was telling you. Maybe if he kept talking, you’d figure out what was wrong. 
You stepped closer, pausing when he took another step back. You spoke calmly, “Let me have a look.”
“I-” he sighed. “This isn’t your problem, you know.”
“Like hells, it isn’t,” you scoffed with a smile. “Your problems are my problems now.” You stepped forward again and took his hand. He looked you in the eye before quickly looking away. “I want to help you.” You brushed your nose against his.
A chill ran through his body, and you felt his hand tremble in yours. “Fine.”
Hesitantly, he slowly turned his back towards you. 
It was rare that Astarion would purposely show you his back. You’d run your hands along the ridges of his scars numerous times, but he was reluctant to let you look at the hacked flesh directly. You assumed it was linked to the poorly hidden shame he felt towards his past, but you never looked at the marks with anything but admiration for his bravery and a sign of his survival. 
Now, seeing the scars straight on by the light of the candle, you recognized the runes as a language you’d seen written many times in books and in school growing up; Infernal. The language of the Hells.
From what little you could make out, the language was fragmented and strange. This scar was just a piece of a larger text. 
“And?” Astarion probed, looking over his shoulder at you. “What does it say?” Embarrassment and hopeful curiosity coated his words. 
“Well, it’s certainly not a poem. In fact, from what I can tell, it might be part of a devil’s pact.”
His eyes narrowed. “Infernal pact? But not even the whole text?” He turned back to face you. “What was that bastard up to?” 
“Did you ever see Cazador write in Infernal before?”
Astarion thought for a moment. “No. I could have missed it, of course, but I doubt it. Whatever he’s carved in my flesh, it’s a mystery to me.” When he realized you didn’t have some sort of quip to add, he continued. “Cazador was only figuratively hellish - there were never any devils hanging about the crypt.” 
You snorted. “I wouldn’t think there would be. Though, can you imagine Mizora in a crypt? Or Raphael? He’d probably be repulsed.” 
Astarion stiffened visibly. “Raphael… yes…”
You attempted to get his attention back on you by squeezing his hand. “What about him?”
He looked at you briefly, a slight smirk on his lips. “If anyone’s going to know about infernal contracts, he will.”
“I mean… That makes sense, I guess.”
Astarion pointed towards you excitedly. “I knew you’d see the pragmatic side.”
You tilted your head, thinking. “But Mizora’s kind of all about infernal legalese.”
Astarion rolled his eyes. “Sure, but Raphael has more panache. And I doubt Wyll would appreciate us summoning his devilish pact-maker.”
“Good point.”
“Unfortunately, Raphael comes and goes on his own schedule, so we’ll just have to look out for any sulfurous odors or the sound of questionable poetry.” 
That got you to smile. He smiled back, and reached out to hold your elbows lightly. “You will help me, won’t you, darling?”
“Of course I will,” you said, bending up to kiss his cheek. You felt him flinch beneath your lips. “Are you sure everything is alright? You seem awfully on edge.” 
“Me? On edge? Of course not!” His voice pitched up uncharacteristically and broke at the end. “I don’t know why that came out all squeaky because really,” he cleared his throat and lowered his voice comically, “I’m fine.”
You smiled skeptically. “If you say so.”
“Don’t worry about me, dearest,” he released your arms and knelt to go through his own bag. He pulled out a fresh shirt and slipped it over his head. “I think I’ll spend some time this morning studying the art of infernal negotiations.” He kissed you swiftly before pulling away as if you’d shocked him. “I’ll…” you caught him look down at the ring still gracing your left pinky, “see you later.” 
With that, he quickly left the room, closing the door behind him and leaving you with nothing but the sound of Harpers patrolling outside and patrons sitting by the bar.
You exhaled loudly, staring at the door after him. 
Something was definitely wrong. 
Compared to last night, when he was blissed out on your tongue, and kissing your throat with fervent passion, there was no doubt something was bothering him.
But what?
You sat back on the bed, replaying the previous night over in your head. Had you done something wrong? Had you pushed him too hard to do something he didn’t want to do?
No. No, you were fairly certain he had truly enjoyed himself with you. 
But then again, you were very new to sex. And new to Astarion, for that matter. Was it possible he could still pull one over on you, even though you felt like you could read him pretty well by now?
Regardless of whatever was going on with Astarion, it was clear that it had to do with you, based purely on his hesitancy to get close to you just now. 
Sniffing your sleep shirt and feeling suddenly self conscious, you ran a warm bath and scrubbed yourself clean of whatever grime had clung to your body since entering the Shadow Cursed Lands. 
A short time later, you found yourself exiting the bedroom, your hair damp, and fresh clothes gracing your figure. You paused in the doorway, scanning the large, open room that made up most of the first floor. Immediately, your eyes fell on the gaggle of child criminals behind the bar that you’d sicced on Astarion at the Tiefling party.
Smiling to yourself, you took a step towards the bar, only to freeze when you heard the familiarly cool tone of a tiefling wizard. 
“...There’s another bottle of Arabellan dry back there,” Rolan practically spat. “Put it on the bar, then piss off and leave me alone.”
Zaki and Meli, two of the tiefling kids, exchanged glances before Zaki upturned his nose at Rolan.
“Jaheira said we should serve drinks, but that we shouldn't serve drunks.”
Slurring his words mildly, Rolan pointed an accusatory finger at the children. “Jaheira didn’t save your ragged little tail from the cultists. I did.”
You stepped forward and made eye contact with Zaki and Meli who smirked when they recognized you. You winked at them and they nodded before turning their backs on Rolan and focusing their attentions within the bar.
“Given the constant darkness, I know it’s fairly difficult to tell the time, but I’m pretty sure it’s a little too early in the day to get this sloshed.” You took a seat beside Rolan. 
He looked over at you and rolled his eyes. “Oh. It’s you.”
You pursed your lips at his tone and rested your head on your hand. “Hi Rolan.”
“Don’t you get tired of telling people how to live their lives?” He took a big swig from his stein before scowling at you and turning away. “If you’re here to save the day again, you’re a little late this time.”
You sat up straighter, suddenly aware of the absence of Cal and Lia. “What happened? Where’s-”
“Oh, sod off,” he hissed. “I’m only here because you ‘helped’ me and my family.”
“I-”
“I was ready to cut and run back at the Grove, but you had other ideas.” Rolan gestured erratically with his mug and free hand.
You leaned in fractionally, attempting to calm him down enough to tell you what was happening. “Rolan, where-”
“Cal and Lia were taken in by your crap,” he slurred. “You convinced them to play hero, and now they’re gone.” 
You bit your lip and looked around, feeling stupid when you obviously caught no sight of the siblings. “Do you know where they are?”
Rolan wiped his mouth with the back of his hand and whipped his head to look at you with a scowl. “Dead, for all I know. Or in the cult’s tower with the others who were taken.”
“Taken,” you repeated, your voice catching in your throat. You looked around frantically, taking note of the tieflings you recognized. Doing a mental headcount, it appeared that the kids were almost accounted for, minus Mol, who you knew was around here somewhere, and Arabella, who was probably with Mol, but there was a distinct lack of adults you’d met back at the Grove. You spotted Alfira sitting alone at the hearth, with Lakrissa nowhere to be seen. Zevlor was also noticeably missing. 
They must have been attacked on their way to Baldur’s Gate and taken to Moonrise. You hoped that was the worst of it, praying silently to whichever god was listening that the tieflings would be okay. 
As your eyes continued to scan the taproom, you spotted Shadowheart, Wyll, Lae’zel, and Karlach talking pointedly with Jaheira over a map spread out over her desk. Their attention was drawn away from the map for a moment when Astarion strode by them with a heavy tome from a wall of books, over to a table where Gale was reading what appeared to be a small book of poetry. It seemed as though Gale had just recently sat down without Astarion’s knowledge, because the vampire gathered up a stack of books resting on the table and rerouted to an empty one out of earshot from the wizard. 
When Astarion caught your eye, he froze momentarily and you sent him a small smile. His eyes flicked between you and Rolan, his brow furrowing ever so slightly. You shook your head minutely, causing him to turn back slowly towards his empty table and dust off the newest book you assumed was full of Infernal translations of some kind. You pretended not to notice him watching you closely.
Rolan, meanwhile, was still brooding over his ale. “Get the bottle,” he nodded at Meli, “give me the bottle - it’s not hard.”
Meli crossed his arms. “I don’t want to.”
“And I don’t want to give you a lashing,” Rolan slurred, “but I will, damn it.”
“Whoa,” you said, holding up both hands, “let’s not resort to threatening kids just because we’re angry.” 
You laid a gentle hand on Rolan’s arm, only for him to shake you off roughly. 
“How dare you tell me - me - how to live my life. After everything I’ve just said.”
Before you had a chance to respond, a flash of silver glinted before your eyes as Astarion slammed a dagger into the wood of the counter between you and Rolan. 
“Is there a problem here?” he asked, sidling up next to you, and helping himself to a bottle of red wine within reach. His books laid abandoned at his empty table not too far off.
“You gonna pay for that?” Zaki asked with a huff.
“Quiet, child whose name I’ve never cared to learn.” You crossed your arms and gave Astarion a look before he rolled his eyes and extended his neck towards you. “She’ll cover it.”
You rolled your eyes in return and reached into your pocket to hand the tiefling a gold piece. 
“I knew I liked you,” Zaki smirked before running off to show the other kids his loot. 
Astarion raised an eyebrow. “Gold, darling? Really?”
“I think we’ll survive,” you said softly before pulling the knife out of the countertop and laying it gently on its side. 
Astarion caught sight of the blade and refocused his attention on the bitter wizard beside him. “As I said, is there a problem here?” His words came out like a growl and his hand flexed as if preparing to strike, before realizing his dagger was on the counter, and instead opted for a swig of his overpriced wine.
“No problem at all,” Rolan said in mock nonchalance. “It’s only that your partner here led my siblings to their doom.” He slammed his mug on the counter, earning a few curious and annoyed looks from other patrons and passing Harpers. 
“Okay good, so no problem then,” Astarion took another swig of his wine.
“Astarion,” you hissed before turning back to Rolan. “We’ll rescue them.”
“If they’re alive,” Astarion muttered. He nearly choked when you forcefully nudged him with your elbow.
“Bullshit,” Rolan snapped. “If they’re alive, I can save them. They’re my responsibility.” He downed the rest of his drink before boldly turning to face you and Astarion head on. He puffed out his chest, attempting to look bigger. “You go save the world, or your own arse, or whatever it is you do.”
“Hey,” Astarion slammed down his own bottle and rose to his full height, “your useless siblings would be lucky to be saved by her.”
“How dare you,” Rolan moved closer to Astarion, but you weaved in-between them before either of them could get their hands on the other. Patrons were starting to stare. You even caught Jaheira turning to give you a curious raise of her eyebrow.
“Both of you, cut it out.” You placed a hand on Astarion’s chest to keep him at bay, and didn’t dare to touch Rolan again. Astarion, in turn, took your hand and brought it to his mouth for a kiss. 
“Listen here, you shoddy excuse of a wizard,” Astarion clutched your hand to his chest and refused to let it go when you attempted to pry it free, “if this woman offers her help, she means it. And based on our numbers, eight, I believe, as opposed to your, what? One?”
“Astarion-”
“I’d say you should take her up on that offer.”
Rolan scoffed. “As if your oafish party could infiltrate Moonrise unnoticed. I’ll have a much easier time sneaking in by myself.”
Astarion laughed airly. “Oh, please, darling, you set one foot outside the protective barrier on this place and the shadows will come for you. You’ll go mad and join your siblings in the great beyond.”
“Astarion, please,” you said sharply and finally pulled your hand free from his grasp.
“I don’t have to listen to this,” Rolan said flatly. He got up to leave, stumbling a bit as he headed in the direction of the entrance.
Astarion crossed his arms with a smug look of triumph on his face. He called after him with the finishing blow: “Do tell the shadows I miss their cold embrace when they swallow you whole.”
The comment made Rolan turn on his heel and march back, sidestepping you and pressing an accusatory finger into Astarion’s chest. “Why is it so important to you whether my family lives or dies? Huh? Do you get some sort of… boon? From whatever devil created a fanged freak like you?”
Your eyes darted back and forth between the tiefling and the vampire, smiling awkwardly at patrons who passed by and shrugging as if to say, “Can you believe these guys?”
Astarion laughed again. “Darling, I couldn’t care less about the fate of you, or any other refugee for that matter.”
A look of confusion passed over Rolan’s face before it morphed back into a scowl. “Then why do you care about this?”
“I don’t.”
“You do!”
You stepped forward, bringing your hands up to try and offer a showing of peace. “Come on, boys. Rolan, we’d be happy to look for your siblings and help however we can. Astarion, why don’t we leave Rolan to think about it for a bit and-”
Rolan shook his head. “Oh no, I’m going after Cal and Lia on my own, and you can’t stop me.”
Astarion rolled his eyes. “A mistake.”
“Leave me to my own choices, will you?!”
“Not when your choices are objectively stupid and illogical!” He took a step forward, causing Rolan to take an indignant step back. Astarion smirked and looked down his nose at his opponent. “Which is funny, seeing as how you tote yourself around as if you’re some big wizard prodigy.” He took another step forward and lowered his voice menacingly. “Why don’t you use that brain of yours and stay here, where you can’t bother anybody else?”
This time, Rolan stood his ground and raised his voice. “Why do you care?!”
“Because she cares and I love her!” 
Time froze. 
Astarion was locked in a stare down with Rolan, as if his declaration was the most obvious thing in the world and not something that had just changed everything.
I love her. 
The words replayed your mind like the most beautiful melody you’d ever heard. 
Astarion had a way of doing that; reciting words or sounds or phrases that quickly became your new favorite songs. 
But this time, you couldn’t quite believe what you were hearing.
“What?” Your hand reached out and brushed his softly.
Astarion jolted and slowly turned to look at you, sudden panic flashing over his features. “What?”
“You said-”
“Nothing. I said nothing.”
“No, you said-”
He raised his voice to speak over you. “I said something devastating to this wizard, rendering him absolutely shattered, isn’t that right, wizard?” He looked to Rolan for help, but Rolan’s eyes were wide with discomfort.
“Oh, this… was that the first-? While you were yelling at me? Yikes.” He began to back away slowly. 
Astarion lunged forward to grab him, but Rolan’s tipsiness worked to his advantage and somehow allowed him to bob out of the elf’s grasp. 
“Get back here!” Astarion floundered, but you caught him by the wrist. 
“You said you loved me!” You were smiling widely, your heart the fullest it had ever been. 
“No I didn’t!” Astarion snatched his hand out of yours and turned to face you while actively backing away. 
You laughed in thrilled disbelief. “Yes you did!”
“No I didn’t!” He crossed his arms in front of himself as if you were a demon coming to rip his unbeating heart out of his very ribs.
“You love me!”
“No I don’t!” He sounded almost like a child as he insisted he hadn’t just said the three little words you’d been so eager to hear. 
“Astarion, I-”
“Your move, Mol,” a sultry voice reached your ears, somehow piercing through your train of thought and what you had been about to confess. You scrunched your nose at the suddenly overpowering scent of cherries masking a fouler stench of sulfur. 
Astarion was frozen leaning away from you, but his eyes shifted towards the voice and then back to you before he darted in Raphael’s direction. 
“Astarion!” you called after him, hot on his heels.
He barely turned to respond. “Can’t hear you darling, important business must be attended to!”
“This is important business!” you countered.
“I have no idea what you’re talking about, dearest!” He came to a halt in a smaller room connected to the large tap room. You stopped short behind him, nearly slamming into his back. 
Immediately you spied Raphael sitting elegantly in front of a game of lanceboard. Mol was sitting opposite from him, squinting at the pieces and analyzing her current position. 
“You trapped me,” she said, annoyed. “I didn’t even want to take this one.”
“Calimshan rules, dear,” Raphael explained, and Astarion groaned quietly next to you. “The first piece touched is the first piece moved.”
“Boring,” Astarion muttered.
Mol huffed. “That’s garbage! No matter where the knight goes, I’m gonna lose it.”
Raphael’s tone became more stern when he instructed, “Then make the sacrifice useful. Guard your Mystra, or come for my Cyric.” 
“We should really talk,” you murmured to Astarion, who cleared his throat and drew Raphael and Mol’s attention to you instead.
Mol’s face instantly lit up when she saw you. “Look who made it! For once I saved your butt out there with Jaheira, didn’t I?” 
You returned her smile, stepping closer and pretending to punch her upper arm playfully. “You sure did. Can’t thank you enough for that, Mol.”
She gave you a smug sideways smirk. “We’re square now, chief.”
“I guess we are,” you laughed. 
“Say,” she said, “do you play lanceboard by any chance? It’s my first time playing.” 
Judging by the mischievous glint in her eye, you immediately clocked that she was lying to throw off Raphael. 
“Oh, he’s laid a fine trap for you, Mol,” came Gale’s voice over your right shoulder. 
“Where did you come from?” Astarion yelped and clutched his chest from his spot on your left.
Gale opted to ignore Astarion’s dramatic display and continued, “But it looks to me like his Cyric could be dethroned.”
You nodded, thinking back to several lanceboard games you’d played with Gale over the course of this journey. You lowered your voice and nodded at the pieces in front of Mol. “Gale’s right. Put pressure on him. Attack the pieces in front of his Cyric.” 
Mol gave you and Gale an impish grin before following through with the move you both recommended. She looked immensely satisfied when she knocked the piece guarding Raphael’s God of Lies from the board. 
Raphael raised his eyebrows, looking both proud and surprised. “My, the Theskan Double Counter-gambit. Vicious.” He chuckled darkly. “Exactly what I would have done.” 
With another self satisfied smirk, Mol removed Raphael’s Cyric from the board completely. “How’s that for Calimshan rules?”
“Brava!” Raphael said, spreading his arms out wide. “Lovely work. I see I was right to make you the offer I did.” 
Your stomach dropped. “Wait, what?”
Raphael didn’t take his eyes off Mol. “You will consider it, won’t you?”
Without another word, Mol got up and you watched as she returned to the other tiefling kids behind the bar.
“What a lovely specimen she is,” Raphael said as your eyes followed her. 
The hairs on the back of your neck stood up as you turned to look back at him. 
He was standing now. “A blushing apple, begging to be plucked.” He mimed the action of pulling an apple from its spot on a branch, his eyebrows furrowed to accompany his conniving smile. 
You stepped to the side, attempting to block Mol from his view. “Leave her alone, Raphael.”
He ignored your warning and changed the subject. “The Theskan move suggestion was inspired. I had no idea you played.”
Gale chuckled. “I’ve been known to dabble.”
“He’s not talking to you, purple,” Astarion spat the last word as if it were an insult. 
Gale stared at him for a moment before shrugging. “Purple has always suited me rather nicely, thank you.”
“Why are you here, Raphael?” you asked. “To play games?”
Raphael’s expression became almost unreadable. “To play the game. The vast lanceboard of souls.”
“Well that doesn’t sound legally sanctioned by the Lanceboard Committee of Baldur’s Gate,” Gale muttered. 
Astarion rolled his eyes. “I wish you would explode.”
Raphael continued, this time his voice was overly saccharine. “Don’t you worry about Mol. It goes without saying she still has the unconditional freedom to choose the only option she has left.” 
Gale leaned over to you and whispered, “Ominous, that.”
“Quiet,” Astarion hissed, causing Raphael’s attention to turn on him. 
“Now,” Raphael said, placing a hand on his hip and pointing a lazy finger at Astarion, “let’s talk about you. I sense there’s something you want to ask me.”
“I do,” Astarion said, hunching forward as if to make himself smaller, “I have a… proposal… for you.” When you turned to glance at him with wide eyes, he corrected himself. “A proposition! A request. A… deal, I suppose, for lack of a better term.”
“A proposal,” Raphael’s eyes shifted between you two, probably knowing the exact tension that was occurring between the two of you right now. 
It wouldn’t surprise you. 
He chuckled, but didn’t press further. “If you’re hoping to taste my blood, little vampling, think again. It burns hotter than Wyvern Whiskey.”
“This is serious business,” Astarion tried to sound firm before adding, “devil.”
Raphael smirked at him, but inclined his head to encourage Astarion to continue. 
“My old - well… A long time ago, someone carved infernal runes into my back,” Astarion explained. “They are a fragment of a contract. I’d like to know what the full contract says.” 
“Hmmmmm…” Raphael dragged out the sound far longer than necessary. 
Astarion straightened himself, attempting to look bravely back at the devil, but you saw the way he absently tapped his finger against his thigh. The way he blinked a little more frequently than normal.
You turned to Raphael, annoyed. “Don’t play games, Raphael. Help him out.”
“Oh, such impatience,” Raphael said sarcastically. When neither you nor Astarion took the bait to squabble with him, he continued. “It’s something very important to your master. But is it a love letter?” He looked pointedly at you and you did your best to keep your expression even. “A warning, perhaps? Or a deed of ownership? I could give you all the gory details.”
“So do it,” you growled, feeling extremely protective of the man to your left who’d just bared part of his soul to this devil. And Gale.
“Ah ah ah,” Raphael tsked. “You’ll have to do something for me first. Let me think about it and get back to you.”
Astarion stammered and held his arms out dramatically. “You’ll ‘get back’ to me? This is important, devil!” After a moment, he sighed. “When?”
“Don’t worry,” Raphael said, the cunning smile refusing to leave his face, “I’m motivated to help you. Scars often tell such wonderful stories - I think yours might be truly exquisite.” 
Before you could interrogate him any further, Raphael vanished in a sour smelling puff of smoke.
“Good gracious, that’s foul,” Gale plugged his nose and waved his hand in front of his face.
You coughed repeatedly, shutting your eyes tight to make sure whatever residue Raphael left behind didn’t blur your vision. When you opened them again, you saw Astarion hightailing it out of the small room and across the taproom.
“Astarion!” you called. “Get back here, you heathen!”
As Astarion went to open one of the side doors of the inn to escape speaking with you, he slammed face first into Halsin’s chest.
“Oh!” Halsin exclaimed and peeled the vampire off of his tunic. “My apologies, Astarion, I was just coming inside to check on things with Moonrise Towers.”
Astarion held a hand to his forehead. “It’s like you’re made of cement.”
You caught up with him and witnessed him slump significantly. 
“Oh, hello, darling.” His tone was jovial, but his expression was one of disappointment at having been caught so easily. 
You placed your hands on your hips. “We need to talk.”
“News of Moonrise?” Halsin asked.
“No, the others are discussing that with Jaheira over there.” You pointed your thumb over your shoulder towards Jaheira’s desk, where your companions were still listening to her and hunching over a map. “No, I need to speak with Astarion in private-”
“Excellent reminder, darling,” Astarion said, straightening up and walking past you, over to Jaheira and the others. “We simply must plan out our next move!”
You turned to watch him go and stood next to Halsin, sighing heavily and pinching the bridge of your nose.
Halsin laid a gentle hand on your shoulder. “Everything alright? I hope nothing troubles the ever growing bond between you two?”
You began walking with him over to Jaheira’s desk. “He’s just being an idiot. He told me something very interesting and I want to talk to him about it more in depth.”
Halsin nodded. “You heard about the night he ran into me in bear form.”
“No, he-” You stopped short and looked at Halsin. “What?”
“There’s the fearless leader these cubs won’t stop talking about,” Jaheira said loudly, causing you to turn away from Halsin and finish taking the last few steps over to her desk. 
You approached Astarion, who stared blankly ahead and made no attempt at hiding the large step he took away from you. You rolled your eyes and stepped forward to stand between Karlach and Shadowheart, observing the map in front of you. 
“You all have been talking for quite a bit.” You noticed different markings on the map, suggesting different routes to take towards Moonrise. “Have you figured anything out?”
Wyll crossed his arms and blew out a breath. “Only that our opponent seems to be invincible, according to Jaheira.”
“So says she,” Lae’zel placed her hands on her hips and repositioned her feet to stand tall. “She has no idea how lethal we are.”
“Ketheric was a Sharran,” Shadowheart said quietly, lost in thought. “He was building an army of Dark Justiciars beneath this village.” She turned her head to look at you. “I knew my Lady Shar’s influence here was all consuming, but… Dark Justiciars?” Her voice took on a dreamlike quality, “Only the very finest proved themselves worthy of the title. They’ve been silent for years but… an entire army? That must have been a fearsome sight.”
“Yes…” Jaheira side-eyed Shadowheart skeptically. She looked at you and said, “To bring you up to speed, General Ketheric Thorm, the Absolutist leader at Moonrise is a formidable foe that myself, my Harpers, and local druids saw to depose - we witnessed him dead and buried. But he’s returned. Not only does he live again, it seems he is no longer mortal. He has become, as Wyll said, invincible.”
“Chk,” Lae’zel rolled her eyes.
“I don’t fancy his chances,” Gale joked as he integrated himself into the group, causing Astarion to jump again.
“So help me gods, you must stop doing that.”
“Supposedly, the Harpers met Ketheric on the road commanding an army of Absolutists, intent on destroying Baldur’s Gate.” Karlach half smiled, proud to be relaying a new Jaheira tale to you. “Jaheira here saw to putting a fucking arrow through his fucking eye, only to watch the bastard pluck it out.”
“‘Like a splinter,’ in her words,” Wyll added helpfully.
Halsin whistled lowly. “Sounds like quite the nasty rival.”
Jaheira nodded. “He healed right in front of me, and chased us into the shadows. Things looked hopeless, but experience has taught me that no matter how bleak things look, there’s always hope.”
“Damn right,” Karlach grinned. 
Jaheira smiled at the tiefling, then looked around at your entire party. “You are that hope.”
Astarion gagged and rolled his eyes, earning an elbow in the side from Karlach.
“We’ll try our best,” you said.
“I was telling your companions here that while protected by your artifact,” Jaheira went on, “you can infiltrate his forces at Moonrise Towers, posing as True Souls.”
“A risky, but clever move,” Lae’zel smirked. “I like it.”
“If we can find out what makes him invincible,” Wyll said, “perhaps we can strip him of his advantage.”
Jaheira nodded. “Together, we assault his tower and put a final end to this blight.”
Astarion sniffed pompously. “You want to make use of our infection.” He placed a hand on his hip and gestured around with his free hand, “Some of us, not necessarily me, of course, I’m rather enjoying the sun when it’s not currently being banished by the Mistress of the Night-”
“Watch it,” Shadowheart warned through gritted teeth.
“Some of us,” Astarion continued, “want to be cured of it.” 
Jaheira watched him carefully. “Any cure starts with understanding the disease. Whatever magic Ketheric’s using to control these tadpoles, it must be at Moonrise.”
“Well,” Gale clapped his hands together, “sounds like we should get a move on if we plan on finding that cure any time soon.”
Jaheira looked to you. “I’ve already shared what I believe to be the best route to the Towers with your friends here.” She nodded her head towards Wyll, Shadowheart, Karlach, and Lae’zel. 
“Thank you,” you said. “Ketheric’s days are numbered - I’ll make sure of it.”
The Harper met you with a sad smile. “Without a cure for your infection, your days are numbered, yet you selflessly offer to spend them fighting alongside us. I like you.”
“Isn’t she the best?” Karlach clapped you on the shoulder, grinning, before clearing her throat. “I- I mean after you, of course.” She smiled awkwardly at Jaheira. 
Jaheira laughed, then addressed all of you: “I promise I will do everything I can to make sure you survive this.” 
Your companions offered their thanks, accompanied by a dramatic eye roll from Astarion. 
“Before you go,” Jaheira said, “there’s someone else you should meet.”
“Gods,” Astarion muttered, “we’re going to be stuck here forever if we keep yammering instead of doing.”
“I’m sorry,” Jaheira raised an eyebrow, “do you wish to be consumed by shadow?”
“If we have a choice,” Wyll said, “I’d prefer not to.”
“Good man,” she smiled at the warlock before looking around at everyone again. “You’re not our only secret weapon.” She rolled up the map laid before you all and handed it off to Wyll. “Isobel - a faithful cleric of Selûne, and a light in the darkness.” 
“Selûne?” Shadowheart wrinkled her nose in disgust. “Why would a servant to the Moonmaiden be all the way out here?”
“You’re lucky she is,” Jaheira gave Shadowheart a look, as if daring her to make another comment on the matter. “She cast the moon shield around the inn. It’s the only reason we’re still alive.” She moved to her right to point at a set of stairs in the small room off the taproom where you’d been speaking to Raphael. “She’s upstairs in her chambers. Tell her I sent you and she’ll see you through the shadows safely.” 
“We already have a lantern that protects us.” Shadowheart crossed her arms. 
“And I’m sure it’s very fine,” Jaheira said. “But lanterns have a tricky habit of going out when you need them.” When Shadowheart didn’t respond, Jaheira added, “Let’s not spurn what few gifts the gods choose to give us, hm?”
You had a feeling the “gods” she was referring to wasn’t the one Shadowheart had pledged her life to. 
“Well I, for one, can’t wait to see what this Isobel has to show us!” Astarion said, suddenly cheerful, and booking it up the stairs. 
Your party watched him go.
“What’s with him?” Karlach asked. 
“Very hot and cold, no?” Gale agreed. “I mean, more so than usual.”
“He’s being an idiot about something he said,” you sighed. “And it didn’t have anything to do with bears,” you pointed at Halsin before he could say anything. 
He simply smiled and shrugged, and followed everyone up the stairs.
“Sounds about right,” Shadowheart said. 
Lae’zel narrowed her eyes. “When has Astarion ever spoken about bears?” 
“He got drunk on one once,” you laughed. “But it wasn’t about that.”
“What was it about, then?” Wyll asked. “We’ve all said silly things we regret.”
“This wasn’t some silly thing, though” you clarified. “It was kind of important.”
Astarion ran out of a room beyond the balcony looking down into the taproom. “Would you all hurry up? I think I found her.”
You approached him as quickly as you could, trying to catch him off guard and reaching for his hand, but he dodged you and slipped back into the room. 
“Astarion!” you called and sped up even more to follow after him. 
You and the rest of the party entered into a large room - sectioned off to your right was a wall with two large doorways that lead into what appeared to be a study, complete with looming bookcases, a desk, and a fireplace. The rest of the room appeared to be a bedroom, based on the large bed with its headboard resting against the back wall, and a number of wardrobes. A large door that you assumed led outside stood next to the bed.
“Fancy digs,” Karlach murmured. 
You paused when Astarion thrust open the balcony door and revealed a woman with short white hair muttering incantations under her breath, surrounded by candles and white light.
“Now there’s a cleric of Selûne if I’ve ever seen one,” Gale said.
“And just how many of those have you come across?” Shadowheart sniffed.
“Quite a lot in my studies, actually. I’ve read about this one cleric of Selûne who-”
“Stop speaking,” Lae’zel hissed as you and your party made their way onto the balcony with Isobel. 
An orb of light appeared in Isobel’s hand and she spun her hands around it, making it grow bigger and brighter with moon magic. High above your heads, a full moon somehow shown down on you, despite Shar’s curse. The eight of you remained silent as she thrust the orb upwards where it met the barrier of the moonshield and reinforced the entire thing with a burst of light. 
Isobel looked up to admire her work before coughing weakly and turning around to face you all. “I didn’t realize I had an audience.”
“Really?” Astarion crossed his arms. “I mean, with me, I can understand, but they sound like a stampede of wild gnolls.” He gestured to the rest of you. 
Isobel gave him an amused half smile. “Please,” she extended a hand back into her room, “join me inside.” 
You purposely let the others go ahead of you and grabbed Astarion’s wrist before he could slip past you again. “I have things I need to say to you,” you said quietly.
“Perhaps later,” he responded, pulling his arm from your grasp and nearly tripping back into Isobel’s chambers. 
You rolled your eyes and followed him in, only to be addressed directly by Isobel herself.
“The True Soul who’s come to save us all.” She looked you up and down and smiled. “I’m Isobel. Pleased to meet you.” She finished with a small bow.
“And you,” you returned her bow and saw Karlach mimic it out of the corner of your eye. “We’ve been told you’re the protector of this inn - the banisher of shadows.” You wiggled your fingers as if telling small children about the boogeyman.
Isobel laughed lightly. “Myself and Our Lady are doing what we can to hold the line. I hear you and your tadpole will be our offense.” 
“Show us what to slay and it shall be done,” Lae’zel offered matter-of-factly.
Isobel scanned your group thoughtfully, the black paint around her eyes making her irises look piercingly blue. “All of you… free from the Absolute’s influence, yet able to walk among cultists. It’s almost too good to be true.”
“Uh, that it is,” Halsin said. “I, myself, remain tadpole free. Though I seek to help rid this land of the shadows that dwell here.”
“Then Our Lady thanks you most graciously,” Isobel nodded towards Halsin and he looked pleased by her approval. She turned back to you. “I’d be a poor cleric indeed not to avail of a blessing when I see one.” 
“Hear that?” Karlach nudged Wyll. “We’re a blessing.”
“We’ll certainly try to earn the praise,” Wyll chuckled. 
“Let me guess,” Isobel raised her eyebrows, assessing your group again, “Jaheira sent you all to beg a protection spell off her favorite cleric.” 
“You got it,” Gale confirmed. 
“If you wouldn’t mind,” Karlach added.
“With pleasure,” Isobel laughed. 
She closed her eyes as a golden column of light overtook her entire being. Lifting an arm above her head, her entire body turned gold until the light concentrated into only the hand she had raised in the air. She brought it down and held it in front of you, palm facing outwards. 
Suddenly, you were all surrounded by the same column of golden light that enveloped Isobel, and a warm calmness overtook your senses. 
Suddenly you knew that the shadows would subside and that you all would be bathed in the peaceful light of the moon once again.
Suddenly, it felt like everything was going to be okay. 
“Tingly,” you remarked.
“Perfect,” Isobel smiled. “That spell will make you immune to the lesser effects of the shadow curse, which will get you closer to the towers.”
“Thank you,” you said, observing your limbs and noticing how they now vaguely glowed with moon magic. Your companions seemed to be doing the same.
“But,” Isobel continued, “there are places it won’t help - places where the curse is darker. Stronger.” 
“And we will destroy these stronger shadows,” Lae’zel lifted her head confidently. 
Isobel exhaled slowly. “The cultists are able to traverse even the deepest shadows, though. I don’t know how - the Harpers are trying to figure it out.”
Shadowheart, who seemed to be more interested in the glowing of her limbs than the rest of you, looked up at Isobel with a scowl. “Selûnite magic. Dark Lady forgive me.”
“Good nose,” Isobel said sarcastically. “Like a nasty little terrier.”
Lae’zel snorted. “She already proclaimed herself to be a follower of Selûne. Were you not listening?”
Shadowheart shot her a glare. 
“Well, this has been lovely,” Astarion said, making his way to the door leading back into the inn proper. “Anything else we should know before we head off to save the day?” He was already halfway out the door, not bothering to wait for an answer, clearly trying to make a stealthy exit. 
You eyed Halsin, who nodded and retrieved the rogue by his arm before he could leave, closing the door behind both of them for good measure.
“Let me go, you humongous imbecile!” Astarion pounded his free arm against Halsin’s chest before Halsin released him and refused to let him move a muscle towards the door. Astarion huffed and crossed his arms, turning his nose up at the rest of you.
“Is he okay?” Isobel asked. 
“This is relatively normal behavior from him, actually,” Karlach said. 
“But please,” you waved a hand in front of yourself, “is there anything else we should know?”
Isobel thought for a moment. “Ketheric is a frightening man. But you have something he doesn’t: allies worth having.” 
You felt a wave of pride wash over you and your companions. 
“Daw,” Karlach kicked at the floorboard under her feet. “That’s very sweet.”
Isobel gave her a small smile. “While you’re all busy at the towers, I’ll be sure to-” 
She froze. 
“Wait. Do you hear that?”
The eight of you strained to hear what she could be referring to. 
Astarion clicked his tongue loudly. “I don’t hear-”
Isobel interrupted him. “Something’s wrong.”
That’s when you finally heard it: The beating of wings followed by a man landing hard on Isobel’s balcony. He wore the uniform of a Flaming Fist, and the way his wings moved seemed new and unnatural. He stood and retracted the black, feathery abominations, before exhaling and walking into the room. 
“Hello, Isobel.”
“Marcus,” Isobel breathed, “is that you? What’s happened to you?”
Halsin leaned forward. “I take it, you know this man?”
“I’ve been blessed,” Marcus said before Isobel could answer. “You can be, too. Come with me and you can hear all about it from Ketheric himself.”
“Isobel,” you said, not taking your eyes off Marcus, “who is this man?”
“He’s a Flaming Fist!” she exclaimed. “Or was. He came with the others when we created this haven.” 
“There are more Fists here?” Wyll muttered. 
Marcus addressed Isobel, “And I thank you for your hospitality.” Then he turned towards you.
You felt the familiar squirm of your tadpole being probed. Much to your dismay, Marcus’s voice rang out inside your head. 
“True Soul, my instructions are clear: take the girl to Ketheric.”
You wrinkled your nose, hating the sensation of his unwanted presence in your brain. In an act of defiance, you needled further into his own mind. 
A haunting face swam into your mind’s eye, its instructions vivid: “nothing is more important than bringing the girl - alive.”
Isobel must have seen the sour expression on your face because she turned towards Marcus aggressively. “What’s going on? If you have something to say, say it.”
“Marcus is trying to kidnap you, Isobel” you narrowed your eyes at the Fist. You looked back at your party, all of whom were already getting into battle positions. You turned to Marcus and took one step forward, bending your knees and dropping into a fighting stance. “Looks like we’re going to have to fight our way out of this one.”
Isobel’s eyes went wide.
“Pathetic,” Marcus spat. “The Absolute sees all - your treachery will be punished!” 
“The Absolute,” Isobel repeated before scowling. “Of course.” She gave Marcus a pleading look when she said, “You can’t believe them, Marcus. Ketheric will never give you whatever it is you’ve been promised.”
Marcus chuckled darkly and spread his hideous wings. “He already has.” He looked at her dead in the eyes. “Time to go, Isobel.”
With that, he reared backwards and roared loudly, far louder than any human of his size should be able to manage. You all stood in horror as you heard screeches and roars from Winged Horrors that flew abruptly into the inn and Isobel’s room. Already, you could hear shouting and screams from down below.
Isobel lifted a hand into the air. “Moonmaiden, guide my hand!”
Before she could cast anything, Marcus let out another piercing roar, knocking you all off guard.
Gale, who’d been standing out of his range, ran forward, a spell already prepped in his hand. When his touch connected with Isobel, she vanished; invisible.
“Good thinking, Gale!” you shouted, pulling your lute off your back and strumming some inspiration in his direction. 
Karlach and Lazel were already knocking back the Winged Horrors with their weapons, while Wyll thrust his rapier towards Marcus. Halsin shifted into bear form and growled at the Fist before taking a slash at him. Shadowheart summoned a circle of Spirit Guardians and rushed into the fray.
“We need to check on the others!” you shouted above the din of the battle. “I think they’ve got it covered in here!”
Astarion twirled a dagger in his hand. “Excellent idea, my darling,” he smirked before thrusting open the doors out into the inn.
To your shock and horror, you both found Raphael standing there, nonchalantly checking his nails. 
“Ah!” he said with fake surprise when he finally acknowledged you both standing there. “Just the lovebirds I was looking for. Remember that favor I mentioned earlier?”
“Right now?!” you cried in disbelief, gesturing to the chaos around you. You witnessed Jaheira shift into a jaguar and swat a Winged Horror out of the air. 
Raphael chuckled. “Oh, I think right now is the perfect time.” He raised his hand.
You and Astarion exchanged frantic glances.
“Wait!” Astarion shouted.
Raphael snapped his fingers.
And everything went black.

You mentioned in one post that bombshell!reader was furious with the team for not helping Reid with his addiction (as she should be)…. Would you maybe write about her helping him thru withdrawal or thru the cravings that follow? Maybe subtly at first, then just making sure he knew he wasn’t alone? “Hi, Spencer Reid.” 
You perch on the edge of his desk with no further introduction. You’ve changed perfumes, to his immediate recognition, the rich smell of your usual parfum swapped for a less consuming scent. He detects apple blossom, and rose, the smallest hint of jasmine, a contrast to your usual vanilla and peony. The human brain can remember 50,000 scents, and Spencer can remember all of yours. Or, he could. 
“You’re not saying hi anymore?” 
“Hi, Y/N.” 
“Hi. It’s nice to see you.” You put your hand on his. Spencer isn’t sure you’ve ever touched his hand before you took it at the hospital, he’s never really let you, but he doesn’t move away. A huge winding of tension between his shoulders begins to unspool. “It’s really nice to see you, babe. I’ve missed you tons and tons.” 
He looks up tentatively. “You have?” 
“I have. I haven’t really been invited, today. I’m just here to see you.” 
“Why?” Spencer asks. 
You tighten your fingers on his hand. “Missed you. Thought maybe we should, like…” And that’s unusual, for you to use filler words, Spencer doesn’t know what to think of it. “Well, I have something to say to you, and it’s going to either sound reassuring or ridiculous.” 
“Okay.” 
You give him a withering look. “Don’t make it any easier for me.” 
He laughs. The sound alone fosters your smile. “Sorry,” he says softly, “I doubt it’ll be ridiculous.” 
“Spencer Reid, we are friends. We are. But we never do anything outside of work, so I was thinking you could come over tonight and we’d make dinner and watch TV and stuff.” 
“And stuff.” 
“I’m a bit nervous,” you confess, looking down at your lap, then quickly back up into his face, “I’m worried you won’t want to.” 
You’re kind to avoid saying what he’s sure you’re thinking; you’re worried he won’t want to spend the night with you, and instead will look down the long barrel of a small needle. Or, he thinks that’s what you’re thinking. He does it to everyone. 
“What do you want to make for dinner?” he asks. 
“What are you enjoying lately?” 
“I… I don’t know. I’m not really eating.”
“Cereal?” 
“Yes,” he laughs. “Lots of cereal.” 
You tap the wheel of his chair with your heel. You’re dressed as though you aren’t working, wearing a sweet dark dress with a starched collar and baby sleeves, stockings, and a necklace at your neck that glows with a small white crystal. You look amazing. It never makes any sense to Spencer, why you’d taken an interest in him, and why you bother now. He knows he’s hard to care for. He knows he’s making it worse. 
You look up and down his face. You must see the purple half circles beneath his eyes, the crack at the corner of his mouth, the cut he can’t stop picking on his cheek. Every time it scabs, he opens it again. One second he’s sitting there and the next he’s got blood under his fingernail. 
“Hug?” you ask hopefully. 
He goes to stand. You move in too fast and wrap your arms around him, leg slotting between his, leaning over his shoulders with a distinct sense of protectiveness. You squeeze him, a little sigh escaping you that sounds loud so close to his ear. 
“How has it been this week?” you ask quietly. 
“It’s fine.” He cups your back in his arm carefully. The other wraps tight around the small of it. He soaks you up, scared you’re gonna pull away any second. 
“How are you feeling about it? Do you need any extra help?” 
He cringes. “No,” he says. “It’s really fine.” 
“When you texted me, about the cravings? What are they like today?” 
He wishes he could breathe in the smell of your perfume and your skin and tell you they’re all better now. It would make sense; there isn’t much in his life that hasn’t been made better by your attention. He’d struggle to do this without you. You’re his only friend who actually cared enough to say the problem out loud, but you’re just a woman, you can’t work the sort of magic necessary to kick this for him. 
“Spencer?” You pull away, nudging his cheek with the back of your finger. 
“They’re okay. I’m not gonna do anything.” 
“Good, honey. I’m proud of you. I know how hard this is.” 
He bites the inside of his lip, surprised at your caring. He shouldn’t be.
“What are you two whispering about?”
You and Spencer have different reactions to Emily’s sudden question. He flinches like he’s been caught with his hand in the cookie jar and you, still vaguely pissed with everyone for not telling you Spencer was struggling and not afraid to show it, keep your eyes trained on his face. 
“Nothing,” Spencer says. 
You turn to her with a small smile. You still like her, Spencer knows. Secretly, he’s pleased you’re angry for him. It’s nice to have someone so obviously on his side. “We’re just deciding what to get for dinner.” 
“Oh, nice. Date night?” she teases. 
You press your cheek to his forehead. “Date night,” you agree, your hand unmissable where it bunches in his sweater near his heart.

your stomach turned as you sat in the front seat of Charles' Ferrari, the bright lights of Monaco passing you by in a blur. A comfortable silence had settled between you and Charles, with his free hand resting on top of your thigh, gently rubbing small circles on the skin as if he could sense how nervous you were. 
Pulling up to the red light, Charles turned his head to look at you, a smile gracing his features as he took in how beautiful you truly were. He could and probably never would understand how Lukas could have treated you the way that he did, but he had saw that you were an easy target, you had so much love to give, and throughout your childhood, had never received any back, at least not from anyone other than Max. The thought of you as a little girl broke Charles' heart, how you loved everyone around you so much, yet you were consistently hurt by the ones who were meant to make you feel loved and wanted - He wondered if Romy looked like you did as a baby, not like he would ever really know; By the time you were born, your parents relationship was all but in ruin, so no one was ever particularly concerned with capturing your innocence and early years.
"What?" You asked him, noticing how deep in thought that Charles had become, tilting your head as you pouted - It made him notice how Romy had probably picked the habit up from you, he had seen it when you would take something from her, and the two of you would laugh, your daughter not realising that the thing you had taken from her was something dangerous. He chuckled as he shook his head, pulling away from the red light.
"Nothing, Cherie, just realising how similar you and Romy are," He smiled, making you screw up your face. "Like that. She picks up a lot from you, clearly." He grinned, gently pinching your thigh to try and take the pout off of your face, making you wince and then giggle.
"Hey! Stop that," You giggled, gently nudging him, a wide smile on your face as you blushed. Charles smiled as he pulled into the parking lot of the restaurant - It was quiet, but busy enough to not overwhelm you. He had picked out the place with the help of Lorenzo, who had heard everything but the end of his younger brothers adoration for you. "Charles, this place...it looks, incredible." You smiled, looking over at him as he blushed. You made him feel like a teenager again, head over heels for his first girlfriend.
"I thought you would like it, it's not too busy but it has your favourite pasta on the menu," He said, helping you out of his Ferrari, linking arms with you as you made your way into the boutique restaurant, lit dimly yet enough by the yellow candlelight. You tucked a stray strand of your hair behind your ear as you and Charles were showed to your table, him pulling the chair out for you before his own, his hand lingering on your back as you sat down. "You look beautiful, tonight, Ma Cherie, as beautiful as always."
You hoped that in the dim light of the restaurant that Charles couldn't see the intense blush creeping over your cheeks. You knew that you were beautiful, both Max and Kelly made sure that you knew it. However, in recent times after having Romy, you found that you were bloated, broken out, and in general, not feeling great about yourself. Yet somehow, being with Charles made you feel more confident in yourself, even when you didn't feel it, he had a way of making you feel like you were the most beautiful girl in the world.
"Thank you, Charles, you look so handsome," You smiled, trying your best to avoid any eye contact with him. Meanwhile, his stomach was doing somersaults, his brain running a mile a minute as he reached over to hold your hand. "What is it?" You tilted your head, your eyes studying Charles' nervous expression. He gulped, swallowing the anxiety in his throat.
"Y/N. Well, um...well..I hope that you know that the past couple of months I've spent with you and Romy have been great, I really...really, love Romy, she is an amazing little girl. You're also the most beautiful, thoughtful, and caring person that I have ever met, you're such a good mum and I-"
"Charles?"
"Will you be my girlfriend?"
He blurted it out before he could think.
Your breath caught in the back of your throat, causing you to choke on your water. Panicking, Charles reached over to you, fear and panic in his eyes as he looked at you, nervously awaiting your answer. The air hung heavy, each minute dragging on as you coughed and sputtered. Either way, Charles knew that he would stick around, he loved you and Romy too much.
"...Yes, Charles."

Summer Break 
“At what point does this obsession with Y/n turn from respect into love?” In their summer home, Wanda layed on her bed, staring at the ceiling. Her hands fiddled with the green crystal around her neck, a constant reminder of the girl that clouded her dreams. 
“What makes you think that I’m thinking about her? I could be thinking about school.” Wanda didn’t have to look to know that Pietro was smirking. While he knew very little about what Wanda felt about Y/n, he did know the ruckus she’s causing to get Y/n back. And that was enough to leave a big impression on Pietro. 
“School doesn’t have you paralyzed in your room for three weeks. Not only that, you don’t have any summer courses this year.” Sitting down at the open desk chair, Pietro spun around as he aimlessly looked around Wanda’s room. “And last time I checked, no other person has your eye…well not in the way Y/n does.” 
Wanda grabbed the closest pillow, chucking it at Pietro. She hated how quick he could get under her nerves. It usually wouldn’t bother her, but then again, the topic is never really about Y/n. 
Wanda hardly ever spoke about Y/n at home or to any of her friends. Of course everyone of her college friends knew of Y/n, but they didn’t know. They didn’t know how badly Wanda thought of Y/n during freshman year of college. They didn’t know how much Wanda wanted to be friends with Y/n and that this stupid rivalry was the closest thing she could get. They didn’t know how much Y/n practically encourages her to be better, to be number one. They didn’t know - no one did. 
How could she even tell people? Hey, I have this weird rivalry with Y/n that keeps up every day and night. We’re not even friends though and I may secretly feel something about this. No matter how many times Wanda rehearsed it, talking about Y/n was just as challenging as all her honors classes, maybe even more. 
So while keeping it a secret did hurt, it was better this way. Because in some weird twisted way, Wanda loved that she was the only one that understood Y/n at this level, that no one else could understand Y/n like her, even if they tried. 
Regardless of how selfish it was, Wanda could not bear the idea of someone else challenging Y/n the same way she did. Because no matter how much she denied herself, Wanda’s thoughts revolve around Y/n. And God forbid, the idea of Y/n’s thought revolving around somebody else would kill her. 
‘Does she think about me?’ Wanda sat up, the bitter taste back in her mouth at the thought that maybe Y/n was into other people. ‘I’ve never heard her speak about anybody else before.’ But Wanda was smart. While Y/n may have never spoken directly to Wanda about crushes, she may secretly have one. ‘Oh God, does she have a partner?’
Before Wanda could panic about that, Pietro broke her out of her thoughts. “What are you going to do if Dad doesn’t give Y/n her scholarship back?” Pietro was never the type to get serious around his sister often. While he knew the time and place to fool around, this felt like uncharted territory. 
Of course Wanda had her fair share of partners in the past, a mix of boys and girls. But Y/n was different. Not in the way that Y/n captured Wanda’s mind, but in the way that Y/n was the only one mentioned by their father. No one else was ever worth being spoken by. So what made Y/n so different?
Wanda felt nervous under Pietro’s stare. This was the first time she ever really spoke about Y/n and the feeling in her chest was hard to ignore. The room felt hot, her anxiety was through the roof, and the answer was something she simply could not rush. 
“Would you think I’m overreacting if I said I would transfer?” Finally taking the courage to look at him, Pietro was stunned by Wanda’s answer. He, as well as any Maximoff, knew how important Evergreen University was for the family. Many generations of Maixmoffs have gone to Evergreen University. There is hardly a generation where you can’t pinpoint at least one Maximoff. 
So for Wanda to even entertain the idea of transferring meant the situation was bigger than he could ever imagine. 
“I think that…Y/n means something to you - clearly more than you care to let anyone know.” Rolling over to Wanda, Pietro offered a small smile. “And if her not going to Evergreen University affects you a lot, then I will personally try my best to help.” 
Pietro may not understand Wanda sometimes, but he certainly will always get her back. “Thanks Piet.” 
Getting up from his seat, he couldn’t help but comment, “Nice flannel.” 
Looking down, Wanda rolled her eyes, “You could just use your words and ask for it back.” 
Wanda took the flannel off. With her hand reached out, she tried giving it back to him. Confused by her comment, Pietro slowly grabbed the flannel and held it up. Quickly confirming his thoughts, he gently threw it back to Wanda. 
“That’s too small for me. Bummer that it’s not my size because I do like it.” Racking her brain, Wanda vividly remembered having it on when Pietro dragged her from the library one night. 
‘Was I the only one there?’ The night felt too far away to really remember, but the gut feeling she had couldn’t be ignored. ‘Who else would be there on a Saturday night?’ 
Pushing her thoughts away, Wanda dismissed Pietro, her thoughts still lingering on Y/n.

“Can you tell me more about Y/n?” The siblings were eating breakfast outside prepared by the cook. Their parents were somewhere in town, enjoying company from school. 
“What do you want to know?” Pushing her plate away, Wanda overlooked the view from the backyard. A vast forest lay before them as well as acres of land, something that has been passed through many generations. 
“What makes her so important to you?” The question almost made Wanda scoff. It almost felt like a form of punishment having to fully confess to the world what she thought of Y/n. But the guilty feeling of denying what she felt about Y/n consumed her more. 
Why did she keep Y/n a secret from everybody? It’s not like Y/n was a bad person…but then again, why would Wanda want to share somebody like Y/n? Why would she share her?
“I…” There were multiple ways she could go about this. Wanda could downplay the whole thing hoping that Pietro would never ask again, but this was her brother. Pietro was a lot of things and stubborn was one of them.
Wanda sighed. Lying was going to get her nowhere, especially since Pietro vowed to help her out. “She drives me like no other.” Subconsciously, her hand goes back to her crystal, the one she rarely takes off. Not being able to see Y/n was torture and knowing next semester was still a major if caused even more pain. “It’s like finally finding the reason the world makes sense. I follow so many rules and orders from Mom and Dad that I hardly feel like I understand why things are the way they are. But with Y/n…” 
Looking at the sky filled with clouds, Wanda couldn’t help but try and feel like she was back at school. ‘Cause maybe she could somewhat feel like she was back with Y/n. 
“She makes me not hate the person Mom and Dad made me into. That being like this was a choice rather than something I was forced to do.” The pressure of being a Maximoff was tough, something only Pietro and some cousins knew. But at a very young age, more pressure was put on Wanda’s shoulders compared to Pietro’s. The two never really understood why but instead were forced to live with it. “She drives me to be better in ways that I would’ve never done on my own.” 
Looking back at Pietro, Wanda saw that he had this blank stare, like he wasn’t quite sure how to react. “She’s important because for the first time in my life…I quite like being smart. I like studying and going to class. I like being number one. I like me.” 
Quickly, her mind thinks back to the tournament and the awful letter written by Dean Holloway, and suddenly being number one was the last thing she wanted for herself. 
“She sounds remarkable.” Pietro finished his food, throwing Wanda a smile. 
Feeling herself blush from her confession, Wanda looked back down at the crystal. “Yeah…she is.”

Sitting in his office, Eric Maximoff sat staring at the offer letter he had rewritten countless of times, the moment between him and his daughter replayed constantly as he made sure to perfect this offer.
Although he realized just how stubborn his daughter was, the threat that replayed in his mind was like no other. There was no tantrum, no screaming, and no begging. That was unlike any argument in the past. This ultimatum almost terrified him if it weren’t the power he held at Evergreen University. 
So while he may have hated the idea of bringing Y/n back, someone who could easily challenge Wanda’s place, he didn’t dare entertain the idea of her going to a different university. Something that would easily bring shame to the family.
The knock at his door brought him out of his thoughts. “Come in.” Slowly opening the door, Wanda entered timidly, unsure of the reason she was called. 
Beckoning her forward, he slipped the manila envelope towards the edge of the desk. Slowly, she took the envelope and grabbed the letter inside. 
“This will be mailed tomorrow first thing in the morning.” Wanda’s eyes widened at the words she was reading. Her mind reading faster than her eyes can go. 
Y/n Y/l/n,
On the behalf of Evergreen University, we would like to grant you your scholarship back in full. Much deliberation has been made on your behalf as we have realized the mistake that was made to revoke your scholarship. We do hope you take this letter as a sign of apology for this catastrophic mistake. 
Your scholarship will be found posted for your Fall Semester should you return back to Evergreen University. Please respond to this request on your attendance. We certainly hope to see you again.

Analyzing Wanda’s reaction, Eric could feel himself relax at the sight of Wanda’s smile. He didn’t have many close moments to his daughter, so this was certainly one that he wished to be on the right side of. 
“I will let you know when my staff receives word of her response.” This was more than what Wanda could have asked for. The feelings inside her could hardly be contained as she realized that her father explicitly wrote this letter and not Dean Holloway.
‘He cares.’ Looking back at Eric, Wanda didn’t want to wait all summer to know of Y/n’s response. Racking her mind, she spoke the first thing that came to mind.
“I want to see her.” Once again, there was that fire in her eyes. Something Eric had never seen before. “Let me be the one to deliver to her.”

Freshman Year - Fall Semester 
“Hey Y/n!” A brunette sat by Y/n, someone that Wanda hardly remembered. Her overly enthusiastic attitude caught Wanda’s attention but the proximity between them held her focus. “Would you be able to tell me your address back home? Marketing majors are currently needing it to better research the upbring of our students and what possible trends we may be able to assume based on the data.”
Wanda rolled her eyes at the load of bullshit that came out of that girl’s mouth. Why in the hell would a class require that much personal information? Like full on government address? It was a trick. But what pissed Wanda off more was the fact that Y/n was willing to give out her information like this. 
And although Wanda was mad, she couldn’t help but also write down Y/n’s address, in case she were to ever use it in the future.

Wanda’s hand clenched and unclenched right before the door. Doubt paralyzed her body like never before. Her feet hadn’t moved in five minutes and by now, the sun was making her skin blaze with how long she had been there. 
Wanda Maximoff was petrified. While everything in her life usually stressed her out, something about this was different. Never in her life has something affected her this much. So as she stood right outside the Y/l/n home, she couldn’t help but think of all the what if’s. 
What if Y/n doesn’t want to speak with her? What if she doesn’t even care to open the envelope and continue to go to her home university? What if this whole thing was the most stupid idea on Earth? 
So before she could run away, act like this never happened, she closed her eyes and knocked on the door. 
Waiting on anybody to open up the door was grueling, but as Wanda backed away from the patio, she took a good look at the exterior of the house. With white and gray paneling, the house appeared to be a country style home that was right at the coast. The waves from the beach were crashing so loud, it almost sounded like it was in Y/n’s backyard. 
The drive was almost an hour away from the airport, but thankfully a money hungry cab was willing to take her but double the rate. The last major thing that Wanda noted was just how peaceful the house seemed. It wasn’t a mansion but by no means was the house small. 
There was a disconnected garage near the house as well as the nice front garden. Hardly any neighbors around and by the looks of it, the greenery coming from the forest across the road was a sight to see. 
All of it felt so odd. ‘Did Y/n actually grow up in a place like this?’
And as if the Devil called for her, the door opened wide. Wanda’s name was called by the very person she missed the most.
“Maximoff?” Slowly turning around, Wanda could feel her heart beat out of her chest. The carry-on bag she was holding suddenly felt too heavy and all she could focus on was, ‘Y/n wears glasses?’
They were simple square tortoise shell frames, yet something about them felt so innocent, like a child telling their best friend their first ever crush in life. Feeling herself blush, Wanda cleared her throat, almost forgetting why she was there. 
“Hey.” Nothing more could come out as Wanda continued to look at Y/n, her white shirt and sky blue striped shorts were harder to ignore. The cherry on top was the slightly messy hair. If Wanda could some up this whole moment, it was that Evergreen University robbed her of seeing this Y/n. And by all means, she wanted compensation. “Can I come in?” 
Regardless of how confused Y/n appeared to be, she still let Wanda in her home. The brunette could tell that her rival had a lot of questions yet didn’t want to be rude about it. Before the conversation could continue, the loud sound of heels strutting forward caught their attention. 
“Honey! I didn’t know you had guests.” Out came an older woman in business casual dress. Her face felt youthful but her eyes showed a lot of wisdom in them. Like a fish out of water, Wanda almost felt confused at the immediate hug that she was pulled into. “I’m Maria, Y/n’s Mom. And who must you be?” 
Wanda almost fainted at how quick Maria’s eyes were to analyze her. Hoping she wasn’t too underdressed, Wanda responded with, “I’m Wanda Maximoff, Y/n’s classmate.” 
Maria’s smile slightly faltered as she took a longer look at the girl in front of her. Suddenly, everything made sense to the older woman as she looked back to Y/n, almost trying to confirm if this was the girl. And Y/n hadn’t needed to even say a word, as her mother took the silent look in her eyes as the confirmation she needed.
“Oh dear, it’s finally nice to put a face around a familiar name.” Wanda refused to look at Y/n as she continued to make eye contact with Maria. The newfound knowledge that Y/n actually speaks about her to her parents was more than she could take. “I’m glad you’re finally able to visit us.”
“I hope I’m not intruding.” Maria clicked her tongue and led Wanda deeper into the house where the kitchen was. 
While Maria focused on getting fresh lemonade from the fridge, Wanda gravitated towards the view from the kitchen. The large windows that practically covered a large chunk of the wall showcased the backyard and all of its beauty. 
Correct with her assumptions, the house was exactly on the coast. It overlooked a large part of the ocean as well as the land that curved with it. From what she could tell, there seemed to be a pathway that led down to a dock with two boats anchored to it. 
“Here’s some fresh lemonade. You must be so exhausted from the flight and the drive.” Maria looked over at Y/n with a disapproving look. “You should’ve picked her up. You know better than to let guests drive from there.” 
“Oh no - this was a surprise ma’am. Y/n had no idea I was coming at all.” Maria looked over at the bag that Wanda was still carrying, motion for Y/n to grab it. 
“I’m assuming you’ll be staying here?” Wanda couldn’t tell if she was already over welcoming her stay. Reading Y/n’s expression was hard as her rival grabbed the carry on from her hands.
“Well-”
“Please, it would be an honor to have you here. The closest hotel is more than thirty minutes away unless you’ve rented a closer airbnb?” Wanda remembered the rentals nearby that offered one night stay at their detached suites. Unfortunately, the starting price was $1000.00 each night. Although her family could afford it, it was unreasonable to ask them to pay for such things. “So what do you say?” 
Wanda looked at Maria, her eyes were practically pleading for Wanda to stay but as she looked back at Y/n, she couldn’t understand what was behind those brown eyes. ‘Did she want me to stay?’ 
But before she could overthink, the slight nod Y/n gave made her smile. “I guess I have a hotel to cancel.” 
Maria squealed in delight as she grabbed her phone from the counter. “Don’t worry about that dear. I know the owner and they will be able to cancel for me. Why don’t you go ahead and settle into the guest room beside Y/n’s. How long will you be staying with us?” 
Before she could respond, Y/n finally spoke, “Two weeks. She’s going to be keeping me company while you and father go to New York.” Wanda didn’t know how it was possible but somehow, Maria’s smile grew even bigger. “Let’s go.” 
Giving a small wave towards Maria, Wanda followed behind Y/n, looking at the various walls that were decorated with family pictures. Feeling overwhelmingly alarmed by the lack of reaction from Y/n, Wanda was thinking of ways to explain her attendance. 
Was it better to go with the ‘I really want you to come back to Evergreen University for my sake because I miss you’ or ‘the University made a mistake and wants you back. They simply asked me to deliver it to you’? Regardless, no explanation or lie felt satisfactory. 
“Welcome to your room.” The door was slowly pushed open by the light coming from the backyard touched the hallway. With its warm glow, the sky blue room felt more comforting. As Wanda slowly walked in and marveled at the size of it, Y/n dropped the bag off at the luggage rack beside the dresser. 
Touching the wall the shiplaps, Wanda grew impressed at how clean everything was. “There’s a private bathroom at that door with a connecting closet. Any spare linens and towels you will need are in there. Plus, if you don’t have enough hygienic products, the drawers under the sink should provide enough options for you.” 
Y/n clicked her tongue, thinking of any other rules she needed to inform Wanda. “Since it will be just you and I, you don’t have to worry too much about how you dress. Everything in the house is free for you to tour around besides my parent’s room and my father’s office.” 
Y/n walked to the other side of the room, opening the glass door that pushed out, allowing the whole room to be open to the backyard. “We don’t really have bugs over here so if you want to have a nice breeze, just open the door like this. But at night, just remember to lock it up for security purposes.”
Y/n pulled the door back along its place causing a slight click when everything returned to normal. “I know you must be tired so I’ll let you get situated. In like three hours, I’ll take you out for dinner. Is ramen and sushi fine with you?” 
Wanda blushed at Y/n’s stare. Sure, there were countless times they’ve looked each other in the eye, but something about this felt new. Like they weren’t rivals but simply friends. “Yeah, that’s fine with me.” 
“Perfect. Let me take care of some things before my parents leave for their trip.” Y/n grabbed the door handle.
“Wait - Y/n,” Y/n looked back to Wanda, “thank you.” With a small smile, the brown eyed door closed the door allowing Wanda to finally relax.

“How am I supposed to tell Mom and Dad that you decided to take an impromptu vacation at Y/n’s? I mean, didn’t you just get Dad to accept her coming back?” Pietro groaned over the phone, feeling unbelievably stressed at the situation his sister put him in. 
“You’ll figure out a way because you owe me. You know I wouldn’t do such a thing like this at all.” Wanda got off the bed as she hung up the wet towel on the hook. She looked up at the clock noticing that she had around thirty minutes left before Y/n would come to get her. 
“That’s what makes me worry. This isn’t like you. Usually you hate spontaneous things, always preferring to know what’s going to happen in the next month with as much detail as possible.” Wanda grabbed the blow dryer under the sink, preparing to end the conversation with Pietro. His opinions echoed loudly in the room as Wanda stood trying to figure out why she hadn’t spoken up to correct Y/n earlier. 
“I don’t know why…but it’s like Y/n brings out a different side of me. It comes with so much uncertainty that it scares me.” Looking over herself in the mirror, Wanda could predict just about everything in her life. To when she’ll probably get married, receive a nobel prize, build her dream house, and start a family, everything was just so calculated. “Like what if I make a fool of myself?”
Pietro was silent for a second, knowing his words would have a deep impact on Wanda. With a sigh, he said, “Wands…I honestly do hope you make a fool of yourself. Because you’ll be one step closer to realizing that the unpredictable part of life is what makes the stress and worries so much more worth it.” 
There was a knock on the other side of the door. Pietro had covered the phone and yelled, “Coming!” 
“Look, I gotta go. I think Mom and Dad are wanting to get dinner outside. I’ll let them know about the change of plans. Just keep me updated, okay?” 
“I will. Bye Piet, I love you.” 
“I love you too.”

“I’m not getting in that thing.” Wanda stood outside the garage, the contraption that Y/n called a car by no means looked safe to even drive. 
“Maximoff, I promise it’s safe. Plus, it’s a small town meaning less likely for crashes and hardly a long driving time.” Y/n leaned up against the driver’s side. The cocky smile on her face made Wanda blush. 
“For God’s sake, it doesn’t have doors.” Wanda pointed out, hoping that Y/n would want to use the car beside it. 
��It’s a Jeep, Maximoff. That’s the whole point.” Y/n hopped in the car and put the key in the ignition. Soon, the roar of the engine and the bright lights came on. Rolling forward, Y/n stopped right beside Wanda. 
With her right arm behind the passenger seat, the messy beach curls in her hair, Wanda could’ve sworn that she was at the wrong place. Because where did the Y/n from Evergreen University go? The one that would stay in the library just as long as she did. The one that was just as focused on academics as she was. 
Because never would she have imagined that this would be the same Y/n. The one that feels like academics is just a side thing in her life. ‘Did our competition rob me of seeing the real you?’ 
“Please don’t make me drag you into this. I’ll even grab my motorcycle helmet-”
“You have a motorcycle?!” There Y/n goes again, with her ever loving cocky smile. Like she knew that Wanda was scared and was enjoying it. And if this is what Y/n looked like with a little bit of confidence, imagine what a lot would do. 
“Look, we can ride that on a different day. Now for the love of God Maximoff, please get in the car and let me take you out to eat.” 
Looking into those brown eyes, Wanda could only think one thing, ‘How could I ever deny her?’
So as much as she reluctantly wanted to get in, she took a deep breath and hopped inside. “If we crash, you owe me your life, Y/l/n.”

True to Y/n’s word, the town was close. One minute, the curves of the roads were surrounded with a vast forest. The alpine smell constantly surrounded them. Feeling the wind through her hands, Wanda almost missed the second that the coast came back. 
“Maximoff, look.” The sun sprawled on their skin with its last minutes in the sky. It was as if the sun demanded to be looked at with its blend of colors. And as they go back through a row of trees that arched over the road, Wanda couldn’t help but be entranced by it all. 
And at the very last mile of the route, right at the opposite side was the coast. Capturing Wanda's attention, she didn’t dare to focus on how close the car was to the guard rail, only trusting the fact that Y/n would never crash. Instead, Wanda focused on how at this very moment, her and Y/n shared the same view and the same admiration for the role. And that was enterally hers. 
It wasn’t until Y/n pulled into the parking lot of the ramen and sushi place that she realized the ride was over. The coast was still perfectly in view and appeared to be around a 5-10 minute walk. If she wasn’t so hungry, Wanda would have almost asked to ditch the restaurant and just sit at the beach. 
So as they walked inside, the brunette simply hoped that on some other day, they could have that talk on the beach. But for now, the food sounded amazing. 
“Booth for two please.” Wanda stood close behind Y/n as the waitress looked at Wanda with almost a surprised look. 
“Follow me this way, Y/n.” The restaurant was small in size but was filled with a lot of character. On the main side of the restaurant was a large counter that had an up close view of the chef’s making the sushi. Right on the opposite side were small booths that could fit a family of four. However, that was all the space the restaurant had. 
Seated at the back left corner, the waitress walked away to get their complimentary entrees and water. “So, what do you think? I know it’s rather small but I promise, the food is absolutely amazing. My family knows the chef personally and he makes the best everytime.” 
“It seems like your family knows a lot of people. First the local hotel manager and now the head chef of this business.”  Wanda lightly joked as the shrimp tempura and miso soup was placed between them. 
“Are you two ready to order?” Grabbing her pen and pad, the waitress mainly looked at Y/n for approval. Although there was no inkling that the girl was interested in Y/n, the sour thoughts of it made Wanda slightly frown. 
“Hey Chelsea, can we actually get my usual and can you add the tonkotsu ramen?” Chelsea flashed a pretty smile as she collected the menus, knowing it was rather pointless to have even set them out. 
“Sure thing. We’ll have that right up for you.” Y/n smiled back as she focused back on Wanda. “Sorry about that. But yeah, my family is pretty connected with the town. I think how small the population is, everyone's parents had known each other from high school. And I guess it’s the same with me. Majority of the people I grew up with either stay or leave for a bigger city.” 
“What about you? Are you wanting to leave this place?” Y/n thought it over as she finally grabbed her own boul to pour some miso soup. 
“I’ve thought about it. Leave the town for a couple years. See what it’s like out there. But I know myself. I’ll probably end up coming back here.” Blowing on the spoon, Y/n took her first sip, enjoying the rich flavor of it. 
“Coming back to a place like this must be nice. While I do love my home, something about your little part of Earth has honestly got me jealous.” Y/n smirked, enjoying the fact that Wanda loved her hometown already. 
“Life out here feels a bit more simple. Don’t get me wrong though, I do like what Evergreen does bring me.” 
Placing her hand under her chin, Wanda leaned closer, wanting to hear more about Y/n’s thoughts. “What does Evergreen have that this place doesn’t?” 
Was it delusional to think that maybe Y/n would have said ‘you’ at that very moment? Was it so wrong to want that? Because Wanda couldn’t help but feel that way as she waited for Y/n’s answer. And maybe she would have been satisfied hearing anything if it weren’t for another interruption. 
“Here is your food. One sushi platter with a side of edamame for Y/n. And one tonkotsu ramen for you.” Sliding the hot food on the table, Wanda’s appetite suddenly grew large at the ramen in front of her. 
“If you need anything else, please let me know.” Not bothering to wait for the food to slightly cool, Wanda began eating, immediately enjoying Y/n’s choice of ramen.
“I know I should be concerned about how you found me,” with cheeks stuffed with sushi, Y/n covered her mouth as she spoke with her mouth full, “but I really don’t care. You have your ways considering you are a Maximoff.”
Swallowing the food, Y/n wiped her face almost full from all the sushi and ramen they had ordered. “But what I do care about is why you decided to come?” Y/n leaned forward as she stared directly into Wanda’s eyes. “It’s a pretty long flight. Not only that, I know you live around an hour or two from Evergreen. So you coming here was not some mere coincidence.” 
Sometimes Wanda hated how smart Y/n was and in this very moment, she absolutely despised it. If it weren’t for the somewhat dark atmosphere of the restaurant, Wanda was certain that Y/n would see how nervous she was.
Stuffing more noodles in her mouth, Wanda avoided looking at Y/n, unsure of how to bring up the manila envelope sitting in her room. ‘Would she be mad to find out that I didn’t come here originally to hang out?’
Leaning back in her seat, Y/n grabbed the last piece of her sushi. While pointing the food at Wanda, Y/n said, “Well, regardless of that…I do know that I want you to stay…especially since you’ve gone through the trouble of seeing me.”

Growing up, Wanda hardly grew up with reassurance. Maybe it was because she didn’t really need reassurance. After all, her confidence in her calculated life was what gave her reassurance. So as she stared at the ceiling, unable to get over their conversation at the restaurant, Wanda realized that she craved reassurance. 
To be wanted by Y/n felt overwhelming in so many ways. But as her heart beated in rapid ways, she couldn’t help but keep the confession close to her mind and heart. To forever remember it. Because why did it feel so nice to be wanted? Why did something so casually stated have such an impact on her? 
Getting up from her bed, Wanda’s thoughts drifted to Y/n again, wondering if she over thought about things too. ‘Has she ever replayed moments of us in her head?’ 
Shaking her head, Wanda didn’t dare to go to that territory at this time. Already unable to sleep, she slowly opened the door and walked to the kitchen. Looking through the cabinets, she finally was able to find the glass cups. Taking one, she filled it with tap water as she stared at the ocean and the moon.
However, the glow from the firepit caught her eye. Feeling the need to see it closer, Wanda walked to the door and entered the backyard. The stone steps led to the middle of the backyard where the firepit was placed. But as Wanda purposely stepped on the grass, she couldn’t believe how soft it was. 
Trekking through the grass, Wanda could see Y/n’s outline sitting at one of the chairs. Once she was close enough, she spoke up and said, “Couldn’t sleep?”
Wanda sat at the free chair that was beside Y/n, enjoying the warmth that the firepit had provided. “A little bit. How about you? Missing home already?” 
The ocean was loud at night, but something about the way it was crashing up against the shore felt relaxing, almost lulling her to sleep. “My mind feels…busy. Can’t sleep with too many thoughts running around.” 
“I see…even when the summer is here, your mind stays thinking.” 
‘Yeah, but it hasn’t stopped thinking about you.’ Feeling too vulnerable to admit her own thoughts, Wand focused on the fire infront of her. 
Letting the silence surround them, the breeze from the ocean and the crackle from the fire pit comforted the two as they sat in their own thoughts. The sounds of nature almost made Wanda’s mind grow silent, like this was the medicine it needed. 
But silence could only go on for so long before Wanda grew curious. “I never knew you grew up in a place like this.”
“Well, you never really asked.” Wanda chuckled. This was the Y/n she knew. The one that was always quick witted. 
“Well, with a place like this, you must have grown up doing a water sport.” Wanda twisted her position to lay on her side, hoping to make eye contact with Y/n. 
“I didn’t do sports really growing up. They only offered the typical stuff like soccer and basketball. I was mainly interested in kayaking and water rafting from an early age.” Y/n looked over at Wanda and smiled. It was a nice feeling to just talk to each other without the constant bickering about school. “But in highschool, they offered a sailing team and I decided to join. Ever since then, it’s been a big hobby of mine.”
Pointing over at the boats, Y/n continued, “You see that sail boat right there? That one is mine.” Looking over at the dock, Wanda could easily see the all white sailboat.
“Jeez, she’s really pretty. And almost as huge as your ego.” Y/n scoffed at Wanda’s quick jab, but the smile on her face persisted. “Who taught you all of this though? Did you have a coach growing up?” There was a small twitch in Y/n’s smile that Wanda caught. Almost wanting to apologize, she waited for Y/n to speak. 
“My father taught me everything about the ocean. That’s actually part of what his business is in. So from fishing, boating, sailing, kayaking, he taught me.” There was a slight pause as Y/n looked out at the ocean, almost like she was missing the simpler times. But within a second, the smile was back on her face as she looked back at Wanda. 
“How come you didn’t major in something like this? It seems like it’s your calling compared to your double major of computer engineering and accounting.” Y/n shrugged her shoulders almost in a ‘it’s pretty obvious’ manner. 
“I do like my majors, but don’t ever mention to my father that I’m in accounting. He doesn’t really need to know that.” Wanda zipped her lips and threw the key away causing Y/n’s smile to further widen. “But I guess I wanted to keep this part of my life as a hobby…I see what it does to people when you suddenly turn a passion into a job…and it’s not the best.”
Sitting up from her seat, Y/n sat at the edge facing Wanda. “I want this part of me to be part of the reason that I need a well paying job. So that way I can support all the hobbies that come with loving the ocean. Because there’s one thing I truly love more than anything in the world and it’s being out there.” 
Reaching her hand out, Y/n got up with an excited look on her face. “Let me show you something.” 
Wanda ignored the feeling in her chest as she grabbed Y/n’s hand. She was led down further down the backyard and down the stairs and on to the dock, hand’s never breaking apart. 
Leading the way to her sailboat, Y/n helped Wanda climb up the ladder and onto the deck. “Meet my precious boat Halfway.” 
Wanda smiled in confusion of the name. “Halfway? Why that name?” The name was odd, but just like another secret, Wanda stashed it in her mind for safe keeping. 
“Stay a while and you’ll know. But you said you were unable to sleep, right?” Wanda nodded in agreement causing Y/n to go into the cabin. 
Following her inside, Wanda could barely see what was in the room with how dark it was. She did see Y/n turn on the heater as well as climb on the queen sized bed that was at the end of the room. Popping open the hatch, the light from the moon suddenly beamed into the cabin. 
“Welcome to the best sleep you’ll ever have.” Wanda had a ridiculous look on her face as she waited for Y/n to say this was a joke. But as her rival continued to smile, she knew it was serious. 
“Is this even safe?” Y/n groaned at Wanda’s apprehensiveness and pulled her closer to the bed. 
“We are currently docked so there’s no way for us to be pulled to sea. Plus, even if we were, I know how to get us back home.” Seeing Wanda’s relucantat face caused Y/n to get closer, to better plead her case. “But Maximoff you have to try it. Otherwise, you’ll always think that sleeping on land is the best thing when in fact, it’s not.” 
Wanda thought of multiple assumptions or facts as to why Y/n’s statement was in fact wrong. Getting the ‘best’ sleep was opinionated. Plus, the meer movement of the ocean would probably cause someone to get seasick during their sleep. Not only that, would bugs get in? 
The thoughts in her head spiral, but the more the moon shone into those brown eyes, she knew she couldn’t resist. 
So with a sigh, Wanda asked, “Can this fit even fit the both of us?”
“It can definitely fit the both of us. Plus, I’ll put a pillow in between incase I accidentally get too close at night.” 
Wanda started to blush again at the thought of cuddling Y/n. “If I wake up cranky, I’m blaming you Y/l/n.”
“And if I’m right, you’ll have to go kayaking with me.” Unable to back down from a deal, Wanda smirked, the same way she did back at Evergreen. 
“Deal.”

──★who’s that girl? chapter 6: trauma dump or bop lore ⁉️

that friday, you and the boys made your way to the party. you all were cramped up in sunghos car,somehow the boys had convinced jaehyun to come with and also convinced riwoo to come as well. luckily the ride there wasn’t long, because deciding to take one car here was not the best idea. 
this was your first real outing with your new roommates and you were a bit excited, wanting to use this time to get to know them better as well as get comfortable around a new crowd of people. you would have invited your own friends, but they invited you here and you didn't want to be only focused on them. 
but honestly, inviting your friends wouldn’t have been a bad thing since the moment you all walked in the boys were already mingling with other people that they knew, leaving you alone. almost alone, you and jaehyun seemed to be in the same boat, staying close to the wall and not really talking to anyone else. you thought it would be awkward hanging around him at the party, but after a couple drinks you both felt a little less tense. 
“you okay?” you nudge him when you see he’s not focused on your conversation, eyes focused on something in the distance. 
“yeah, i’m fine… i’m just nervous my ex will try and talk to me while we’re here” he smiled awkwardly. you turned your head so you could see who he was looking at exactly, but the room was too crowded to be able to tell. 
“how bad was the breakup? you still seem pretty bothered by it” 
he sighs hard, and that answers your question before he even starts talking. “she broke up with me out of the blue about a month ago, but i guess i should've seen it coming. our relationship wasn’t that healthy, but i really liked her and i wanted us to work out. the boys hated her because she made it basically impossible for me to do literally anything because it would just cause problems.” 
somehow you two turn the party into a drunk therapy session, ranting to each other about your recent failed relationships. think of it as some form of roommate bonding? he was the only one out of the 5 that you couldn’t understand, but now you realize he’s actually easy to talk to and you feel like you two would get along great in the future.

Love island Episode one: Coupling up.
a/n: it’s here! thank you to everyone who voted over this past week. here is the love island series. Mason has his pretty prince hair😍. villa is the 2019 UK love island villa, it will get better but i wanted to get the coupling up over with. anyways sorry if there is any mistakes, enjoy reading 🩰

you’d never been this nervous before. sure you’d been nervous but never this bad. you had been scouted for love island by the producers and you thought you’d give it a go. you had a pretty big following being a model/influencer with just over 500k followers and this would be the perfect opportunity for you to finally find love instead of focusing on your job.
you walked into the villa in you hot pink bikini, you picked it because it would stand out and that’s what you wanted to do. you wanted to make a good first impression on whoever was in here. you made your way to the garden and saw four other girls meaning you were the last to enter before you saw Maya Jama.
“hey everyone” you said making the four girls turn towards you and scream with excitement. they met you halfway and one by one introduced themselves to you. “i’m Molly nice to meet you” she kissed you on the cheek and hugged you closely. the next girl hugged you “hi im Chloe” she hugged you.
“i’m Anna” she hugged you and kissed your cheek and then you finally moved onto the last girl “im Amber nice to meet you” you didn’t know what it was but the girls even though you hadn’t been in there long had all made you feel welcome already.
“i’m y/n, nice to meet you all” you were still nervous as Molly poured you a drink. “so, tell us about you y/n. what’s your type?” you took a sip of the champagne before starting. “well, i’m 22, in a model and influencer. my type is tall, tattoos, brown hair brown eyes, tanned skin, someone who’s athletic and don’t think i’m weird but i love noses” the girls laughed.
“don’t worry y/n, i’m with you on that one” Chloe laughed. “tell me about you girls then, we are gonna be living together for a while” you tucked your hair behind your ear as you listened to them.
Chloe started “well, i’m 25, i’m a marketing executive. my type is anyone who is taller than me to be honest. i don’t really have a type i usually go for. i like anyone, and i do have a thing for noses” you laughed again knowing that this was gonna be a recurring thing that you would all speak about.
“as you know i’m Molly, i’m 23 and i’m an influencer. my usual type is a tall brunette but i’m open to get to know everyone here” you nodded and then Anna started talking. “so i’m a pharmacist and my usual type is anyone taller than me, because i’m so tall i want someone taller than me”
to be honest Anna was very tall so it wasn’t a shock that she’d want someone taller than her. lastly Amber started talking “i’m a beautician so i do facials, lashes, lip filler, everything like that and my usual type is tall dark and handsome, i don’t know how else to explain it” you all laughed and then you all heard a voice behind you.
“hello girls” you turned towards the voice and saw Maya standing there. a few of the girls screamed, seeing her made this experience feel so much more real. “how about we all gather around the fire pit and have a chat?” all of you made your way over to the fire pit and sat down.
“so, Amber, tell me, how are you feeling about being here? are you nervous? excited?” Amber nodded “yeah i’m excited because you never know who’s gonna come through that door like it could be the love of my life” her gordie accent thick as she spoke.
you all laughed and nodded, you really never knew who was about to come through the door. “Chloe, do you think you could meet someone here? or are you skeptical about it all” Chloe shrugged “i’m pretty skeptical but i’m optimistic about the whole thing. i’m excited to meet everyone else”
“okay well, are we ready to meet some boys?” you all cheered and made your way over to the five love hearts that were by the pool. you were on the fourth heart in between Anna and Chloe. “right, remember girls that you can step forward for the guy you like but he can pick any one of you even if you don’t step forward” Maya spoke so you understood the rules.
“let’s welcome our first boy Ovie” you all looked toward the door and saw him, he was very good looking. you all clapped as he made his way down the steps. “you girls doing alright?” you all said yes as he stood next to Maya. “so girls, step forward if you like the look of Ovie” you looked at the girls and saw Anna, Chloe and Amber step forward.
“wow three girls stepping forward already. Amber, why did you step forward?” Maya questioned “he’s just really good looking, definitely my type” Ovie was shocked that three girls stepped forward for him. he was hoping for at least one let alone three.
“y/n, why didn’t you step forward?” you blushed “now don’t get me wrong you’re very good looking but i just want to see the other options before i step forward for someone” Ovie and Maya nodded understanding where you were coming from.
“okay Ovie you have three beautiful girls who have stepped forward for you but who have you decided you are going to pick?” he was silent for a few minutes before he finally spoke up “the girl i would like to couple up with is Anna” Anna clapped with excitement that Ovie picked her. to be honest when they stood next to each other they looked perfect together.
“okay, next boy we have coming in is Toby” you all clapped again as he made his way down the steps and you heard Chloe whisper ‘oh my god’. she liked him for definite. “okay girls, if you like the look of Toby please step forward” straight away Chloe stepped forward. Chloe was the only one who stepped forward for Toby.
“okay ones not bad” he said making you frown but you quickly changed your face back to normal. “Toby you have Chloe who has stepped forward for you, would you like to couple up with Chloe or would you like to couple up with someone else?” Maya said fidgeting on her feet.
“Chloe is beautiful so i’m going to couple up with Chloe” you all clapped as Toby made his way over to Chloe and he kissed her on her cheek. Chloe blushed and smiled happily that Toby picked her.
“Molly why haven’t you stepped forward for any of the boys?” Maya asked looking at her intensely. “they just aren’t my type really, i bet they’re lovely but i’m just waiting for that spark straight away” Maya nodded “okay well i think you may like this next boy then, please welcome Tommy”
Molly gasped as he made his way down the steps, she was in shock at how good looking he was. “okay girls, if you like the look of Tommy please step forward” Amber and Molly stepped forward. “wow two girls, didn’t expect that” Tommy said smiling widely. “well, Molly and Amber have stepped forward for you Tommy, who would you like to couple up with? remember you can pick someone who has stepped forward for you, in a couple or even a girl who hasn’t stepped forward.
Tommys eyes scanned through the girls before making his decision. “i would like to couple up with Molly” she jumped a little as Tommy picked her. “thank you for picking me” Molly said as she gave Tommy a hug and he kissed her on the cheek. “you’re welcome beautiful” she blushed brightly.
“okay girls, last two boys. y/n, do you think you will step forward? you haven’t stepped forward for anyone” you nodded “i know, i feel bad but no one has really caught my eye yet” Maya understood “hopefully someone will catch you eye” you agreed.
“okay girls welcome Curtis” you didn’t even like the sound of that name right off the bat and seeing him just solidified that for you. he was not your type at all. “okay girls, if you like the look of Curtis please step forward” you were not stepping forward. you didn’t want to just step forward because you had too, you were here for yourself.
it was silent for a few minutes and sadly no one stepped forward for Curtis. his smile faltered slightly before he quickly put it back on his face. “oh Curtis i’m sorry” Maya said and he just shrugged it off “it’s no bother, they just haven’t gotten to know me yet.” he replied.
“okay well don’t worry, you can couple up with any of these girls. who would you like to couple up with?” Maya continued “i would like to couple up with y/n” your heart dropped but you didn’t show your sadness, you just had to get on with it.
Curtis made his way over to you and gave you an awkward hug. “y/n, how are you feeling?” god you hated that she had to ask you that “oh uhh, i’m glad i got picked but i just didn’t see that initial attraction but i guess i don’t know Curtis?” you sounded like you were questioning yourself.
“okay well, let’s see our next boy. please welcome Mason” you turned your head toward the door and your heart started beating. there he was and you were in shock at how pretty he was. “hey everyone” he said, even his voice was sexy. “girls, if you like the look of Mason please step forward” straight away you stepped forward as did Chloe and Amber followed.
“wow y/n, i’m shocked. you actually stepped forward for someone” you blushed and laughed. “well, it glad she did step forward for me” Mason winked at you and you felt weak. he was making you feel things you’d never felt before.
“Mason you have the choice to couple up with any of these girls, who would you like to couple up with?” Mason answered straight away “y/n” you were ecstatic. “that means Curtis automatically couples up with Amber” Curtis walked over to Amber and Mason made his way over to you and kissed you on the cheek and pulled you into a nice hug. “nice to meet you” he said as you stepped back to the heart.
“nice to meet you too. thank you for choosing me” your body felt hot, he was the perfect man by looks, and he had a nice nose. “well, you’re a beautiful girl. i’m excited to get to know you” you locked eyes with him, his eyes were dark brown but in the sunlight you could see golden hues which were so pretty.
“okay guys, everyone is now coupled up. i’ll leave you too it and remember, if you don’t get to know anyone your place in the villa may be at risk. good luck” with that Maya left and it felt even more real. “should we go over to the swing? i want to know more about you” you nodded your head and smiled. Mason grabbed ahold of your hand and the two of you headed over to the swing.

Note: Okay, so I had no idea the prologue would be so well received, seriously, I am shookith. I hope this chapter is okay, I'm not in love with it but John and the reader needed to have a chat, its more filler I think. I'm also playing with changing the POV just because it feels awkward but that could just be me (I've also played with the idea of switching it from reader to OC but I likely won't)...You'll notice the banner has changed. I've decided that depending on the the time frame we'll have young or older John...anyway I hope people like this.

Summary: John and Y/N finally get to have a chat about the soulmate thing...

Two weeks, it had been two weeks since Y/N learned that none other than Lieutenant Jonathan Price was her soulmate and they hadn’t had one moment to discuss it. They had stood in the middle of the base, the copies of the reports that Aunt Kate wanted clutched to her chest, John slowly moving closer to her with his head tilted as if he was analyzing the situation. Y/N’s heart was thumping against her chest as he reached her. She was nervous and didn’t know why, it wasn’t like she didn’t know John, maybe she didn’t know him well outside of what she’d seen on different bases, or when he’d rescued her, but she had a good idea of the kind of person that he was, and her aunt trusted him.
John stared down at her, waiting to see if she would bolt or not. His blue eyes focused on hers, he glanced down at the mark that he could just see through her blouse and nodded towards it.
“Got that this morn’ did you?”. When she nodded, John smirked at her. “Happy birthday then dove,”.
Y/N had started to respond but a siren rang out across the base, and over the PA system came the voice of the comms specialist. “All unit’s report to Briefing Room 10. All unit’s report to Briefing Room 10. This is not a drill.”
John had sighed and was already turning to run, looking back at Y/N before yelling as he went. “We’ll talk later!” Y/N had watched him run, whispering for him to be careful. That had been the last time she’d seen him as his team was off doing God only knows what to deal with the situation. As it turns out, bombing hospitals really gets the attention of the world.

Three days after his team had left Aunt Kate sat across from her as she picked at her food. “Do you want to talk about it Y/N?”.
Y/N looked up at her aunt, a little startled. “Talk about what?”
Kate rolled her eyes at her niece. “You know what, don’t give me that nonsense.” Kate took a sip of her coffee. “He’s a good one that one, always ready to fight for the cause.” She watched as the young woman pushed her food around but not actually eat it. Y/N let out a deep sigh.
“I’m happy, I really am. I have my soul mark, and I found him right away…a lot of people wait years, I know that I’m lucky. We just…didn’t get to talk and he hasn’t been back, and I just worry that he…won’t be.” She paused for a moment. “I also…well I worry.  I mean, I’m 18 Aunt Kate. He’s what? 22? He’s not going to want me. I have zero life experience, I have shitty parents, who are not happy with the soulmate thing by the way.” She was ranting a bit, and she knew it.
Kate nodded at her niece before reaching out to pat her hand. “I can’t tell you much, but I can tell you that he’s okay. John is a good soldier and a good man if I know him like I think I do, you don’t have to worry.” She said, trying to reassure her niece. After a pause she smiled. “24. He’s 24.”
Y/N nodded before tracing a line that someone had carved into the table, her eyes flickering up to look at her aunt. “I just hope that I’m enough, you know? I’m not a soldier, I’m only here because I ran from my problems at home.”
Kate hesitated for a moment, choosing her words carefully. “You are here because I asked you to be, you’re good with computers, and you’ve proven to be useful. You didn’t run from your problems Y/N, my brother and your mother are…difficult and I don’t blame you for wanting to escape them. As for you being enough, that soul mark says that you are, you wouldn’t have it if you weren’t.”
Kate paused. “Getting your soul mark is life changing, it is a lot all at once and then when you find them it’s an even more drastic change, suddenly there’s this whole other person in your life. You managed to get yours and find him in one day, that would be a lot for anyone, you had no adjustment period. Hell, when I finally found Lacey, even I was thrown for a loop. You and John will be fine. Just, make sure when you do talk, you tell him all this.”
Y/N smiled at her aunt before picking her fork up and finally taking a bite. “Thank you, Aunt Kate, for everything.” Kate nodded, satisfied that her niece was eating and not spiraling.

John was exhausted. The Russians had targeted several ally hospitals and he and his team had worked tirelessly to find the bastards and bring them down. Finally, they had caught them, managing to bring their ringleader in alive and he and his team were free to move on to Laswell’s current location to check in. When the helicopter they were waiting for finally landed he was relieved, he watched vigilantly as his team boarded the chopper before filing in behind them.
For the first time in two weeks, John finally had more than half a second to think of something other than the mission, his thoughts immediately turning to the soulmate that he’d left on base without even having a chance to talk to her about the whole thing. 6 years of not having a soul mark and suddenly she’d been right in front of him, externally he’d been calm but his mind had been all over the place. She was so much younger, she was Laswell’s niece, she was someone he had to protect…and he would. The need to protect her was already there, hell it had been there before he knew. From the day Kate had said her niece had taken it upon herself to deliver some intel and then been held hostage, he was drawn to her, as close as she was to turning 18 and getting her mark, he supposed it made sense.

Y/N found herself waiting (im)patiently on the tarmac for the helicopter to arrive. She had been sitting in the rec room reading when a Private had come to fetch her for her aunt. When she’d finally found Kate, she’d been happy to learn that John and his team were on their way back, prisoner in hand, and would be landing shortly.  She would have been there anyway as Aunt Kate’s assistant, but with John as a soulmate it was a given that she’d be there, even if the only ones who knew were herself, John and her aunt.
They had been waiting only for 10 minutes when the sound of the helicopter broke through the calm sky. Y/N felt her heart rate pick up as she watched the helicopter touch down, anxious to see the man that was meant to be hers. She watched as two of his men excited the chopper, pushing their prisoner along to where the holding cells were.  She was happy to see that so far, no one looked like they had been injured…except for the terrorist who had a good number of bruises on his sneering face.
Her heart seemed to skip a beat as she watched John step out of the helicopter, his large frame imposing as he seemed to stretch himself out, rolling his shoulders before walking in the direction of herself and her aunt. Y/N watched him closely for any signs of an injury, but he only looked tired, each step bringing him closer.  With his long legs it took him no time at all to reach them.
Standing in front of the women he looked at Laswell, a serious look on his face as he nodded at Kate.  “Kate, mission successful, we have a shit ton of intel to go through.”
Kate returned the nod. “We’ll discuss it during debrief, Briefing Room 12 in 20.” She said before walking off in the direction of the briefing rooms.
John turned to look at Y/N, she was staring up at him nervously like she didn’t have the first clue of what to do or say. He almost smirked, she was easy to read. He reached out slowly, not wanting to scare her and cupped her cheek.
“Alright Little Bird?” he asked softly.  
Y/N seemed to snap out of whatever spell she was under, her eyes wide at his touch. Slowly she reached up to place her hand on his, leaning into the warmth of his hand. Swallowing she nodded.
“I’m good, you and the team, okay? No issues?”
John nodded, his thumb gently caressing her cheek where he held her. “No one’s broken, we’re all in one piece.” He paused, he didn’t have a whole lot of time before the debrief. “Listen luv, I want to get cleaned up before debrief, but after that you and I need to have a chat yeah?”
 Y/N smiled at him. “Yeah, of course. I’ll probably be in the rec room if you want to come find me.”
John leaned down, kissing her on the cheek before backing away slowly. “I’ll find you luv, go on.” With that he turned and was on his way to the showers. Y/N felt her face turn red before she turned and made her way to her room, changing into more formal clothes before grabbing the book she had been reading and making her way back to the rec room.

Y/N had been so lost in her book that she hadn’t even noticed when she was being stared at an hour and a half later. John watched from across the room as she was engrossed in her book. She was seated in one of the armchairs, legs flung over the sides as she read, her face changing with the words that she read. Her face showed him everything, nothing was hidden, and he didn’t think she could hide her expressions if she tried. She was tiny compared to him, barely over 5 feet and that just made him want to protect her more.
He moved closer carefully, not wanting to startle her. He was only about 3 feet away from where she was sitting before, he spoke. “Good book?” Y/N jumped a bit at the sound of his gruff voice. Turning to look at him, she stuck her bookmark between the pages as she looked him up and down. He was now in jeans and a military T-shirt, a knitted cap over his head.
Y/N looked down at the book for a moment. “It’s not bad, a lot of angst though, I’ve probably cried six or seven times already.”
John smiled at her. He could see her crying into a book when it got sad.  “I was thinkin’, we should grab something from the mess hall and find somewhere to have that chat.”
“Yeah, that…sounds like a great idea.” She was nervous and he could tell, her body language gave her away. They would have to work on that, if she ever got into a bad situation again, he would need her to be able to bury the emotions deep so she could fight back if the situation called for it.
John offered her his arm as she stood, she stared at him for a second before slipping her arm through his and letting him lead her in the direction of the mess hall. It wasn’t far from the rec room, and they made quick work of grabbing a tray and getting their dinner, John refusing to let her carry her own as she protested behind him. He smirked at her and simply held her tray just a little bit higher.  Instead of grabbing a seat at a table John led her outside, taking her to a secluded area that he often went to get away. It wasn’t anything special, just a little alcove hidden between the mess hall and an aircraft hangar.
Y/N looked at the spot in awe, she’d struggled for a week to find a spot where she could just be alone, a challenging feat on any military base. “You’ve been here all of what? Two hours and you’ve found the one spot where there aren’t people?”
John let out a chuckle, sitting himself down on the grass with a groan. “It’s not my first time on this base luv.” He picked up his tray and stuck a fork full of what was supposed to be mac and cheese into his mouth. His face crinkled at the unpleasant taste. “Fuckin’ hell.”
Y/N had been about to try it herself and decided against it, instead picking at the salad. She watched him closes as he, despite the awful taste, continued with the mac and cheese, even now, mostly out of uniform and relaxed the man had a commanding presence. His blue eyes met hers and she quickly looked down at her food. John said nothing but the corner of his mouth quirked in a smirk.
John quickly ate his food, used to having to eat quickly and run at a moment’s notice. Y/N could feel his eyes on her and glanced up at him. “I’d say its not polite to stare but I’d be a hypocrite.”
John said nothing, he just reached into his pocket and pulled out a cigar. “You mind?”  he asked. Y/N shook her head, her dad smoked cigars like they were the only thing keeping him alive and so she was used to it. She watched as he turned himself away from the wind to light the cigar, the movement letting her get a look at the soul mark on his arm.
She hesitated for a moment. “Can…can I see it? Your mark? I know it matches but yours is bigger.”
Holding the cigar in his teeth, John pulled up the sleeve of his shirt. Y/N scooted closer, without thinking about it she had reached out, tracing along the edges, the mark fit both of them perfectly. She stopped tracing the mark when she felt him shudder at her touch, her fingers left his mark immediately.
“Fuck sorry, meant to look, not touch.” She mumbled. He shook his head, grabbing her hand and bringing it back to the mark.
“It’s yours to touch Little Bird.”  She could see the sincerity in his eye and allowed herself to trace the edges of his mark again.
John watched her carefully; her touch was barely there but he let himself enjoy it anyway. She was off in her own world, lost in her thoughts, thoughts of how somehow this very large, bear of a man, was now attached to her very soul.
“Are you alright with this luv? Me being your soulmate?” Despite his confidence as a soldier, the lieutenant was uncertain about how this was going to work, not only was she younger, not by much, but enough, but he was a soldier, one who was quite literally all over the place and in danger daily. It was not going to be easy for either of them. Without a soulmate, he didn’t have to worry about himself as much, now he was going to need to be more careful.
She smiled shyly at him. “I’m happy, I thought it would take forever to find my soulmate and well… there you were, and I know you a bit. Aunt Kate was very happy about it. “She paused. “I’ve been more worried about how you felt about it, I’m not exactly anything special and you have more important things to worry about.”
John frowned, hearing her say she wasn’t special didn’t sit well with him. John moved his cigar to his left hand before reaching out to take her much smaller hand in his. “Luv, I would be lyin’ if I said it was part of my plan, the last couple of years I stopped thinking about getting a mark and finding my soulmate.”
John took a long drag off his cigar. “As for you not being somethin’ special, I don’t want to hear that again yeah? For some reason life has decided that yer perfect for me. That makes you pretty damn special to me.”

summary: You’re missing Joel and a certain mare seems to be picking up on your sadness—or at least that’s what you think is happening when there’s a sudden change in her behavior. Why else would Stella be acting so strange around you?
warnings/tags: 18+ ONLY, MINORS DNI. angst, horses, and a lil more angst. reader’s pregnancy is lightly being implied, but it has not been explicitly stated yet, only hinted at. no Joel, he is only mentioned in this one. Dina makes an appearance, i threw in some comedic moments to try and balance out the angst. ends with a horsey hug.

a/n: so this is meant to be as a bit of a filler fic before chapter 9 is posted and shit hits the fan. i knew i wanted to do a short drabble that touches on how reader is doing after the confrontation she had with Joel. i also asked people to send in short prompts for the series to do some no pressure writing exercises, and this particular prompt that was sent in was just incredible and i decided to incorporate it. It makes me nervous to post a fic with no Joel in it, but my heart wanted to write it so fuck it, I just wrote it. chapter 9 is almost done and will be posted soon. @eyesneverbeensoblue i hope it’s okay to tag you in this and tell you thank you so much for the idea!

Summer slowly, but surely comes to an end.
The days are long, but the nights without Joel?
They’re even longer, at least, that’s how it feels.
You miss him. Oh God, how you fucking miss Joel Miller.
He’s all you can ever think about.
Every second of every minute of every single day.
You miss Joel so much that it physically hurts. Every part of you just aches for him. Aches. 
Your insides feel like they’re on fire, and you can't put it out.
The heartache is agonizing, almost unbearable—it’s unlike anything you have ever felt before.
In front of others, you hold it together pretty well. But when you’re alone, behind closed doors? 
That’s when you fall apart. Crumble into pieces.
Losing Joel is something you will never heal from. Never.
Traces of himself he’d left behind—would you ever be able to wipe yourself clean of them? Of him? Or would you have to spend the rest of your damn life trying to get over the man who fucking adored the hell out of you and who loved you so unconditionally?
“He misses you, you know,” Ellie says, quietly. She stands beside you and diligently runs a hard, bristled hand brush along Jasper’s side to clear his golden coat of dirt and debris. The palomino is just one of several horses that needed tending to after that morning’s patrol shift. Realizing you’re too busy jotting down notes in Jasper’s handwritten file you keep for him—you kept a file for every single horse in the commune—Ellie clears her throat and then speaks again, louder this time. “He misses you.”
You wince and stop mid scribble.
“Ellie—” you trail off, your throat going dry.
Even though you’d asked her about a hundred and one times not to talk about Joel, Ellie was hellbent on bringing him up to you as often as she could. At first, it seemed innocent enough. She stuck to just letting you know how his recovery was going.
“His shoulder’s healing really well.” 
“Donna came over to help with physical therapy.” 
“He’ll be back on patrol in a couple of weeks.” 
So you’d given her a pass. Besides, you would be a liar if you said you didn’t want to know how he was healing after his injury.
However, Ellie then began to wander into more sensitive and dangerous territory.
“He asked me about you.” 
“He was drinking again last night.” 
“He looks so fucking miserable.” 
You know why she’s doing it.
It’s not to make you feel guilty for hurting Joel.
Hell, she knows that you’re hurting just as badly. She loves you and she loves Joel—the two people Ellie cares about more than anything are suffering without each other.
You hate that she’s essentially been pulled right into the middle of this mess that you’ve created.
Ellie is collateral damage. This is all hurting her too.
“He misses you a lot,” she adds after a minute.
You exhale sharply. Her words feel like a punch to the gut and they knock the wind out of your lungs.
Finally, you look up from your clipboard, turning to her. “Ellie,” you say her name warningly. “Stop it. We’re not going to do this today. Okay?”
“I’m just saying,” she mumbles, placing a hand on Jasper’s side. “If someone was missing me, I think I would want to fucking know.”
You feel the lump steadily rising in your throat.
“Ellie, please don’t—”
“I’m here, I’m here, I’m here!”
The sound of Dina’s voice fills the horse stables.
The teenager whips herself into Jasper’s stall, skidding to a stop in front of you, sweaty and breathless, as if she had just run across the settlement.
“I’m so sorry I’m late!” She apologizes, setting her bag down on the ground. Pulling a scrunchie from the back pocket of her jeans, she throws her long, black hair into a messy bun as she explains herself. “Talia asked me to help her out in the library this morning and I totally lost track of time. And then on the way over here, I bumped into Mrs. Miller as she was walking home from the market and I mean, I could not just let a pregnant lady carry all those heavy bags across town—”
“Dina, breathe, sweetheart.” You hold up a hand to stop her. “It’s okay. As long as you show up, that’s all I care about. Especially since Tommy and Maria moved Logan to patrol duty. That’s another stable hand gone, so I need all the help I can possibly get around here.” Slipping your clipboard under your arm, you glance from Dina to Ellie. The emotions from what had happened just seconds before your niece had run in are bubbling, threatening to boil over. “Listen, I have to go do a routine examination on Stella. Finish up with grooming Jasper. I have a couple of horses that are due for baths—Luna and Bandit. Then it’s feeding time. Got it?”
Dina smiles brightly. “We’ll take care of it, won’t we, El?”
Sensing your urgency to leave, Ellie gives a subtle, small nod of her head. “Yeah. We will.”
“Good. I’ll come check on you girls when I’m done with Stella.” Spinning around on the muck caked heel of your boot, you hastily leave Jasper’s stall and nearly fly all the way down the stables and into Stella’s.
You rush inside, closing the top and bottom half of the Dutch door before sagging back against the wood. You toss your clipboard aside on the floor of the stall and lift both your hands, covering your face as you choke back sobs of pure agony.
He misses you. 
As you will yourself to keep yourself from falling apart, you feel a warm muzzle dig lightly into your lower stomach. Dropping your hands from your face, you glance up only to see Stella peering at you with clear and unmistakable curiosity in her big brown eyes.
“Hi there, my gorgeous girl,” you murmur softly to the pregnant mare. A tear slips out from the corner of your eye and you quickly wipe it away with the back of your hand.
Stella lowers her head and sniffs at your stomach, right where she had dug into you. Her ears prick forward and she nuzzles the same spot again.
You shoot her a strange look. You’ve never seen her exhibit this type of behavior before.
“Stella, what are you doing?” you ask, almost as if you expect her to speak and give you an answer. “Why are you being so weird?”
Stella sniffs you again, then nips at the hem of your tank top.
“Hey! Cut that out.” You can’t help but let out a watery giggle as you carefully pull the fabric out of her mouth. Realizing the strange behavior must have something to do with the mare sensing the intensity of your negative emotions, you gently place both of your hands on either side of her muzzle. Inhaling a deep breath through your nose, you slowly exhale it through your mouth before touching your forehead to hers. “I’ll be okay, girl. I’ll be okay. There’s no other choice—I have to be okay.”

An hour later, you’d finished the examination.
Stella had continued to act oddly around you, her behavior becoming more and more peculiar as time went on. You were bonded to her of course—you were bonded to just about every single horse in the commune—and so it didn’t really surprise you that the mare was so in tune with your emotions and could feel that something was off. She was extremely attentive to you as you worked, her eyes never leaving you, not even for a second.
Stella also continued to sniff you, nuzzling you in the stomach any chance she had. For as bizarre as it was, it brought you an off sense of comfort and it made you feel less alone.
“Hey auntie.” Dina opens the stall door, poking her head inside. “Can we come in?”
“Of course.”
She pushes the door open further and walks into the stall with Ellie on her heels. Both of them are almost completely soaked from head to toe. 
Your eyes widen. “Um, girls, I’m pretty sure I told you to bathe the horses—not yourselves.”
Ellie lets out a small scoff. “Ha ha. Very funny.”
“Bandit wasn’t having it,” Dina chuckles. “But he’s all clean, and so is Luna. We just came in to tell you we’re going to go dry off and change our clothes. We’ll be back for feeding time.” She glances at the mare. “How’s our sweet mama-to-be doing?”
“Good. She’s as healthy as a horse.”
The teenagers roll their eyes, but laugh.
“You’re so lame, auntie.”
“Just a little equine veterinarian humor. My dad used that one on me all the time.” You grin at the memory. “Stella’s doing really well. In about seven or eight months, we’ll have our new baby.”
“Well then, I think someone deserves a little treat since she’s doing so good.” Dina reaches into the bag she has slung over her shoulder and pulls out a crisp, red apple. She walks over, holding the fruit out in the palm of her hand for the horse. “Here you go, girl.”
Stella gives the apple a sniff, then takes it from her. 
Usually, she wolfs it down in just a few chomps—but what she does next surprises all three of you. Apple still between her teeth, the mare turns and pushes her muzzle into your stomach.
“Oh shit,” Ellie cackles. “No fucking way!”
“Oh my god,” Dina grins. “Is she—she’s giving it to you?”
Shocked, you lift a hand and delicately take the apple from between her teeth. “Stella, you silly girl! What are you doing?” You hold it out for her. “This apple is for you, sweetheart. Here, take it.”
She tosses her head in the air.
Dina snorts into her hand. “She just told you no!”
“She wants you to have it.” Ellie shoots you a teasing look. “Come on, princess. Take a bite.”
You look at her, then down at the apple, which is covered completely in Stella’s slobber.
“Um, no thanks. I think I’ll pass,” you mutter. 
“Auntie, don’t be rude,” Dina jokes. “It’s bad manners to refuse her offer.”
Rolling your eyes at your niece, you turn back to Stella and tell her, “I’ll eat it later. When it’s washed.”
“We’re starting to smell like wet horse,” Ellie makes a gagging noise as she takes a whiff of her shirt.
Dina lifts the collar of her blouse to her nose. “Oh, gross. We are starting to smell like wet horse.” She reaches out with her opposite hand, grabbing one of Ellie’s. She laces their fingers together. “Come on, let’s go change.”
You can’t help but notice the way Dina looks at Ellie—with the sweetest, most adoring little smile.
You raise an eyebrow, cocking your head slightly.
Ellie’s eyes meet yours and she blushes deeply.
If you ever had a chance to give Ellie Williams shit, this was it—but instead, you just give her a subtle wink from where you stand. Her face instantly goes from red to maroon.
“Be sure to be back in an hour for feeding time!” you call as Dina pulls her out of the stall. “I’m not feeding all these horses alone!”
“We will!”
Once the girls are gone, you turn to Stella and wrap your arms around her neck. “Thanks for trying to cheer me up today, pretty girl.”
She rests her head on your shoulder.
You feel more tears coming and hug her harder.

After last night conversation with Theo, you felt lighter. His words had eased some of your worries, offering a flicker of hope that things might eventually return to normal.
The smile on your face hadn’t faltered since. Not when he’d asked you to meet him at the library today, despite it being a Saturday, and not even when he walked you back to your common room, his voice low as he whispered a goodnight.
The playful comments from your roommates this morning about your brighter appearance had only made you more aware of the shift in your mood. You couldn’t help the smile tugging at your lips as you weaved through the corridors, murmuring apologies to others as you make your way to the library.
You spotted Theo near the entrance, partially hidden by the fountain. His head was down, attention fixed on his hands, oblivious to your approach. A flutter of nervous energy hit, you felt yourself quicken your steps toward him.
You were almost there, just one staircase away, when your name rang out behind you. Reluctantly turning, hoping it was something that wouldn’t take long, and saw Cormac jogging toward you with a determined look on his face.
“You’re hard to track down these days,” Cormac called out, his voice carrying that usual cocky edge as he jogged up to you with a smirk plastered on his face.
You were a little confused, wondering why he was even looking for you in the first place. “I didn’t know you were trying to find me.”
“Well, now that I’ve found you,” he continued, his tone making you uneasy, “I was thinking—since you’re back on the market—how about you and me, Hogsmeade tonight?”
The phrase “back on the market” left a sour taste in your mouth. When had you ever been “off” in the first place? The nervous flutter you felt before seeing Theo was now replaced with an entirely different, uncomfortable feeling.
“Oh, um… I don’t know,” you replied, trying to be polite but feeling more awkward by the second. “I’ve just got a lot going on today.”
“Come on,” he pressed, stepping closer, his smirk still in place. “Just one hour? You can spare that. I promise I’ll make it worth your while.” He winked, and you had to fight the urge to roll your eyes or find an excuse to leave. The last thing you wanted was to be stuck anywhere with him.
You forced a polite smile, preparing to decline once again, but before you could get the words out, he continued. “I mean, it’s not like you’ve got any other offers. You’ve been looking a bit lonely lately. Thought you could use some company.” He chuckled as if he’d said something clever, clearly enjoying the idea that he had the upper hand in this conversation.
Merlin, could this get any worse? You bit your lip, trying to find a way to end this without causing a scene. “I really don’t think—“
Before you could finish, a shadow loomed behind you, and you felt an immediate shift in the atmosphere.
“McLaggen,” Theo’s voice cut through the tension, low and cold. His tone carried none of the warmth you were used to. You glanced over your shoulder to see him standing there, jaw clenched, eyes dark with irritation.
Cormac’s cocky expression faltered for a split second before returning in full force. He turned, completely unfazed by Theo’s interruption. “Nott,” he said, his voice dripping with amusement, clearly enjoying the confrontation. “I was just asking Tesoro here on a date—until you rudely interrupted.” He stretched out the nickname, like he knew it would upset Theo more, and you had to fight the urge to roll your eyes.
Theo let out a cold, humorless chuckle that sent a shiver down your spine, completely different from the warmth you’d heard in his laughter just last night. His jaw clenched, and his fists tightened at his sides. He took a step forward, his eyes darkening, but before he could close the distance, you quickly grabbed his arm, a silent plea for him to stop before things escalated.
“As much fun as this has been, Cormac,” you interjected, forcing a bright, insincere smile, “we really have other things to do.”
Without waiting for a response, you turned and tugged Theo with you, pulling him away from Cormac and his smug grin.
As you walked away, the weight of Cormac’s presence finally lifted, though you could still feel Theo’s tension beside you. He was quiet for a moment, clearly still simmering, his steps heavier than usual.
You glanced up at him, giving him a small, appreciative smile. “Thanks for that,” you murmured. “I wasn’t sure how to get rid of him.”
Theo’s jaw remained tight, but his gaze softened as he looked down at you. “You okay?” he asked, his voice quieter now, the anger from moments ago dissipating.
“Yeah,” you exhaled, the tension slowing leaving your body. “I just don’t know how to deal with people like him sometimes.”
“You don’t have to,” Theo muttered, his jaw still a little tight. “Not with me around.”
You couldn’t help the small smile that tugged at your lips as you both continued walking down the steps to the library.

“Why isn’t there a spell to reverse a memory charm?” you groaned, slamming the third book shut and leaning back in frustration. Hours had passed, and it felt like you were getting nowhere. Theo sat across from you, equally tired, his brow furrowed as he flipped through pages of an old, dusty tome.
“They probably thought it was too risky,” Theo muttered, rubbing his eyes. “You can’t just undo something like that. If memory charms were easy to reverse, people could expose things that were meant to stay hidden.”
“Yeah, well, that’s just stupid,” you muttered, flipping through another useless chapter. “There’s always something people want to undo. Why isn’t there a spell for that?”
Theo sighed and closed his book. “It’s not that simple. Memory magic is delicate. Even creating a counterspell could cause more harm than good. You don’t just restore memories—you could scramble them, or worse.”
You let out a long breath, feeling your frustration bubble over. “So we’re stuck? There’s nothing we can do?”
Theo looked at you, and his gaze softened. “I know it feels like we’re running in circles, but we’ll figure it out. You just need time.”
Time. The one thing you didn’t have patience for. You rested your head in your hands, exhausted.
“I just… I want my life back,” you said, your voice quieter now. “I feel like I’m losing pieces of myself, and every day it gets harder.”
Theo didn’t say anything for a moment, just watching you with a mixture of concern and helplessness. “Tesoro,” he said softly, the name slipping from his lips as if it were the most natural thing in the world.
You felt your heart skip a beat, but unlike when Cormac used that name, this felt different. It was gentle, full of care, and it brought a sense of comfort you hadn’t realized you needed.
He leaned forward, resting his hand lightly on the table between you. “We’ll get through this,” he said, his voice low but firm.
“Let’s take a break, yeah?” Theo suggested. He pushed the book in front of him aside and stood, offering his hand. You looked at it, surprised by how quickly he’d made the decision.
“Where to?” you asked, your brow furrowed in curiosity, but you slipped your hand into his without a second thought. His touch was warm, grounding.
“Hogsmeade,” he replied, his eyes flickering with a hint of nostalgia. “It’s been a while since you’ve been, hasn’t it?”
Hogsmeade. The name sent a flicker of something familiar through you, but it felt distant, memories blurred by time. You frowned slightly, trying to pinpoint when you had last visited the village. But your mind was a maze, and any attempt to retrieve a clear memory seemed futile. “I guess it has been a while…” you muttered, trailing off as frustration gnawed at you. Why couldn’t you remember something as simple as a trip to Hogsmeade?
Theo squeezed your hand gently, bringing you back from the swirl of your thoughts. “It’s ok we’ll figure this out, but for now we can make new memories,” he said, his tone light but reassuring. “Besides, a break might help you think more clearly. We’ve been drowning in books all day.”
A small smile tugged at your lips as you nodded. He was right—stepping away for a moment might be exactly what you needed. “Alright. Let’s go.”
As you stepped out into the crisp autumn air, the cool breeze brushing against your face, you felt the tension in your shoulders begin to ease. The path to Hogsmeade stretched out before you, and for the first time in what felt like ages, you weren’t focused on what was missing. You were just… here, in this moment, with Theo by your side.
“Do you have any place in mind?” you asked, slipping your hands into your pockets as the two of you began walking down the path toward the village.
“Well, there’s always the Three Broomsticks,” Theo suggested with a slight grin. “Or we could go to Honeydukes, stock up on sweets. Whatever you’re in the mood for.”
You felt a small laugh bubble up at the idea. “Sweets sound good, and maybe Three Broomsticks?” you said, feeling a little more at ease with every step you took.
Theo chuckled. “As you wish, Three Broomsticks then Honedukes so we have sweets on our way back.”
As the village came into view, its familiar buildings lined with lights and warm, welcoming windows, you felt the knot of tension in your chest unravel just a little more. You weren’t sure if today would bring any answers or if your memories would come rushing back. But for now, it didn’t seem to matter. You were with Theo, and for the first time in a long time, that felt like enough.

The Three Broomsticks was alive with chatter, warmth radiating from the walls as you and Theo found a cozy corner to settle into. It was the kind of night where the world outside felt like a distant memory, the clinking of glasses and hum of voices a gentle backdrop to the feeling of comfort settling over you.
Theo returned with two frothy mugs of butterbeer, sliding yours across the table with a playful smile. “One butterbeer, as promised.”
“Thank you, kind sir,” you replied, lifting the mug in a mock toast. “To a night without studying.”
Theo chuckled, clinking his mug against yours. “I’ll drink to that.”
As you sipped, the buttery sweetness filled mug, you caught Theo watching you, his gaze warm and a bit thoughtful.
“What?” you asked, raising an eyebrow.
“Nothing,” he said, leaning back with a small smile. “Just nice to see you actually relaxing.”
You rolled your eyes but couldn’t help smiling back. “I’m pretty sure I remember how to relax, Nott.”
“Is that so?” He tilted his head, looking skeptical. “Because last I checked, you were about ready to hex anyone who looked at you the wrong way.”
“Oh, and you’re such a beacon of calm?” you teased, nudging his foot under the table.
“Touché,” he admitted, laughing. “But seriously, it’s nice to see you smiling. I like your smile.”
The words lingered in the air between you, and for a moment, you felt that familiar warmth of something deeper—something unspoken. You brushed it off with a soft laugh, steering the conversation back to safer territory.
“So, what’s the plan for the rest of the evening?” you asked, tapping your fingers thoughtfully on the table. “Are we just enjoying the sights, or do you have more surprises up your sleeve?”
He grinned, a glint of mischief in his eyes. “Well, I thought I’d spoil you with a stop at Honeydukes next, but if that’s not impressive enough…”
You laughed, shaking your head. “I think Honeydukes sounds perfect. You know, the way to my heart is through chocolate.”
Theo leaned forward, mock-serious. “Noted: chocolate bribes to keep you happy. I’ll remember that,” he grinned.
“Honeydukes it is,” he said, standing up and holding out his hand to help you up. “Though don’t blame me if you leave with more sweets than you bargained for.”
You took his hand with a grin, feeling a lightness you hadn’t felt in weeks. “Consider yourself warned—I’m taking full advantage of this candy run.”
With his hand still in yours, you left the warmth of The Three Broomsticks behind, stepping out into the crisp evening air.
“Tesoro… hey.” Theo’s voice broke through the haze, soft but insistent, as he gently squeezed your shoulder. You blinked, realizing you were sitting in a quieter part of the pub, the buzz of the crowd faded in your mind.
“What… what just happened?” you murmured, still feeling the faint pull of the memory.
Theo’s brow was furrowed, worry evident despite the calm expression he tried to maintain. “I’m not sure. One minute we were sitting here, I’d just gotten drinks, and when I came back, you were completely zoned out.”
Your stomach twisted in embarrassment. “Oh, Merlin, that’s awkward. I didn’t even realize.” You gave a half-hearted laugh, trying to brush it off.
“Did something come back to you?” he asked, his voice low and careful.
“Maybe?” You closed your eyes, reaching for the full memory that felt just beyond your grasp. The ache still at the edges of your mind. “It felt real. I thought it was happening until you brought me back.”
Theo gave you a steady look, the kind of look that reminded you he could be endlessly patient. “Do you want to tell me? Maybe it’ll help.”
You hesitated, rubbing a hand across your face. “Alright… just don’t laugh.”
“Never,” he promised, a glint of reassurance in his eyes.
You took a deep breath. “It was… sort of like tonight but busier, louder. You and I got a table and drinks. We were talking, and I told you that chocolate is the way to my heart.”
Theo’s eyes brightened. “Chocolate bribes,” Theo cut in, his eyes glinting with recognition. “You definitely took me up on that.” A small, genuine smile crept onto his face, clearly lost in his own memory of that night.
You couldn’t help but feel relief at his reaction, almost like a puzzle piece falling into place. “So, it did happen?”
“It did,” he confirmed, smiling at the memory. “We bought a few bags of candy. You were horrified at the amount, tried to insist we put some back, but I wasn’t having it. I carried all the bags while we walked back to the castle.”
His voice was warm, his gaze growing softer with each detail. He remembered so clearly, while you were still trying to reclaim that same ease and warmth from fragments that only half-made sense.
You smiled, feeling a strange mix of sadness and comfort. “And then?”
Theo’s face softened, as if he were measuring his words carefully. “I walked you back to the castle. And at the entrance of your dorm… I told you to get some rest, then we said goodnight.”
Something in his voice left the words hanging, like there was more that he wasn’t saying. But you appreciated what he offered nonetheless.

“You didn’t have to buy so much candy again,” you protested with a laugh. “This is way too much; half of it’s going to go to waste!”
Theo only shrugged, looking completely unconcerned. “You worry too much. Besides, Pansy and the guys will probably ‘sneak’ some anyway.”
“You’re too generous, but I’m hoarding mine,” you teased.
“Not even sharing with me?” Theo’s smirk caught you off guard, the playful glint in his eyes making your heart skip a beat. You weren’t sure if he was just joking or flirting, but it was still enough to make your cheeks heat up.
“Fine, only because you bought it and insisted,” you replied, trying to sound indifferent.
“Oh, how very kind of you, milady,” he grinned, reaching over and snatching a piece right out of your hand before popping it in his mouth.
“That was high treason!” you gasped, feigning shock but quickly dissolving into laughter. Theo chuckled, clearly pleased, and you could feel a warmth settling over the moment, knowing he’d been the one to bring out this side of you.
As the laughter faded and the evening settled, you and Theo strolled back to the castle, the cobblestone path quiet under the soft glow of lanterns. He carried the bags of candy effortlessly, swinging them by his side as he walked in step with you. The two of you chatted easily, letting the night stretch just a little longer, and every now and then, your hands would brush against each other.
When you finally reached the entrance to your common room, you paused, not wanting the moment to end. Theo shifted, handing over your stash with a faint smile. “Well, here you are, candy queen,” he said, gently nudging the bag toward you.
“Thanks for today,” you murmured, a little embarrassed at how much you meant it. “I didn’t realized how much I needed this.”
He gave a small nod, his gaze softer. “Anytime,” he replied. “Seriously.”
There was a comfortable silence between you, but Theo’s expression grew more serious as he took a half-step closer. “So, you’re good here?” he asked, glancing at the entrance and then back at you as if giving himself an excuse to stay a second longer.
“Yeah,” you replied, biting back a grin. “Though I might need you to help me carry the candy all the way in.”
He laughed quietly. “I’d better not tempt fate.” he said, his voice soft as he slowly shifted a little closer, his fingers brushing your cheek in a way that made your pulse quicken.
There was a moment—a heartbeat, suspended—where he leaned in, his face inches from yours. His gaze softened, his eyes tracing the curve of your smile, the glow of your eyes in the low light. But then, almost reluctantly, he drew back, his expression conflicted, as though he remembered something bittersweet.
Theo took a slow breath, and his fingers lingered on your cheek before he finally let his hand fall. “Goodnight, Tesoro,” he murmured, his voice warm and soft.
A hint of longing passed over his face as he stepped back, leaving a feeling you couldn’t quite place. “Goodnight, Theo,” you whispered, watching as he turned and walked down the corridor, glancing back just once before disappearing from view. And even as you turned to enter the common room, you couldn’t shake the flutter in your chest or the sense that something important had almost happened.

Chris is laughing because, well, what else can he do.
He was pretty calm when Eddie moved to El Paso, all things considered. Abeulo told him theres a big difference between being 13 and being 14, like this piece of your brain unlocks and you learn to think all over again. It's like, yeah, theres this new shelf somewhere in his brain. He can feel these thoughts now - hes been able to do that this whole time, he thinks, but with that new shelf in his brain he can see that both I'm just a kid and I've dealt with so much in my life its irrevocably changed the way I interact with the world. Nothings really just a shrug anymore, even when he tries.
Just a week ago he watched Lego Ninjago with tía Sophia's toddler and it's like his brain pulled out all his knowledge up to that point of the series and he genuinely thought to himself: "are these filler episodes?" On his cartoon? Filler? And there it found itself, sat on that new shelf - this thought - that suddenly this episode could be taken out of the show completely and the final battle would still be breathtaking and the story to get there unfettered. The next episode feels much the same and Chris disengages, nearly hysteric, as Lloyd the ninjago pauses his, up to this point incredible, character development to do a sick kick flip on a dodgeball court. He does another, then runs off the screen and does one more move then ends with a knowing wink to Chris as he slides his little Lego body on that new shelf.
So, his dad showing up and staying in a nice Airbnb - done. Not even on the shelf.
He misses him, objectively, lovingly. Its tense because, duh, but Eddie takes him to the lake and shopping and introduces him to a bbq place that Abeulo said was a total tourist trap. It's delicious, a total trap, and Chris walks away with a Polaroid of them both smudged with sauce and beaming through their ruined bibs. That sits on a shelf on his wall next to a discarded pair of swim goggles. Sometimes its turned down, when his stomach tears in knots and he finds himself unable to picture Eddie without a clouded storm of his dead mother over his shoulders.
Eddie staying for more than a quick trip - fine. He's a grown man, he can do what he wants. Chris isnt grown but Eddie let's him do what he wants. Odd. But oh well. He can see how his dad is so nervous to tell him, the way his shoulders tense and his back is stick straight even in these funny wooden chairs his family's passed on for generations, how he keeps flicking his eyes to the doorway where his grandma is definitely snooping on the other side.
That's the first shelf thought he dares to filed away under Dad. Eddie's not only nervous in front of him, his son, who he's let flee. Hes nervous in front of his parents. His mother. Who he fled from. Is this where he sat when he told them about Chris? Did he twist his fingers the same way - was his back this tense before the army changed him - was Shannon there? Theres a picture somewhere of his parents at this table, exhaustion evident in their figures, with Chris on a little bouncer on the table between them. Did she like this table? These chairs?
Eddie tells him "I'm here, mijo. I cant - I wo - I'm here. I love you too much to miss you, Chris." And theres Eddie, again, filed firmly on that shelf next to the child version of himself who's dreading telling his secrets. Chris can't articulate it well. Instead, he swallows the lump in his throat and nods his head and ducks away when he gets the chance. Voices fill the space he's abandoned and he hears his grandmother's voice grow shrill and he can envision his dad still tense in that chair and he files that away too. Some shelves have shelves, he finds.
Eddie's place is nice, even though he lied about his stay at first. Theres a dip in the shutters on the west facing wall and a few gaps where the caulk wasnt applied properly on the window seals and theres a drawer in the kitchen that pops put from behind the island and doesnt close properly. Both bathrooms have walk in showers and Eddie shows him these minuscule divots in the hallway where the previous owner had rails installed, removed, and covered with cheap spackle. "In case, you know, we ever need it," he says with far less nerves than Chris expected. Files that thought on the shelf. He intends to stay in El Paso.
Not ideal. El Paso is - temporary. Knew that going in. Acts on that even when he's having the time of his life with the vaguely rebellious teens from his new social circles. No plans for the summer under his watch, no sir. Hes got comraderie in chess club with this girl with green hair who's an orphan because I live with my grandparents too, it's kinda lame, isnt it? She invited him to her birthday, tentatively planned for some safari a 30 minute drive away at the end of April, and when he tells her he should be home by that time her face twists up in a familiar manner. Can see her file that information away on a shelf of her own.
So - look - he sees it all in a new light, is what hes saying. His grandparents arent hovering they're worried. Hes not just a kid who's experienced trauma hes a person with life experience some people couldnt find in their nightmares. His dads not difficult hes complex. Hes got layers.
That version of his mother he saw that night wasnt a ghost. Shannon's more than that, and so was she. He cant imagine why she was there, why she looked like a ghost, but some adults cant explain why they choose the everyday things they do - he cant expect either parties involved to sit with him and tell him with clarity why that evening was happening in the first place.
And that thought, it's not - filed away, per say, but it stops guiding his actions. He stops wishing he had an answer the more Eddie picks him up from school, stops pulling that want to understanding off the shelf to admire when he finds Eddie's face in the crowd at chess club. They play among us one night with his cousins and he doesnt even consider using yeah well you abandoned me emotionally as a retort when Eddie (rightfully) calls Chris sus for killing while lights are off. His little alien flies into the vast abyss, unbothered.
Inhibitions, released. Maybe he can learn a thing or two from that silly little alien.
And today - oh, today. Today he's roped his bisabeula into making lasagna. Its not as good as Bucks, another thought hes found on that shelf, but it reminds him of that loft and the LA air and what it's like to stick his hand out of the window to flow with the air during that short drive over. Bisabeula's house is small, two rooms the size of closets decked out with different themed blankets for each great grandkid opposite her own tiny master and a shed out back housing all her prized heirlooms to pass down one day. Last time they were all here, Eddie dug out a rocking horse for tía Sophia's aforementioned toddler.
Eddie's probably hungry. Yeah. And he'd love a reminder of LA.
Bisabeula folds easily, drives him over with a happy little grin on her face, and she idly carresses her course chin hairs - whiskers! his abuela scolds - as she tells him she's got a bridge meeting she forgot about so you'll have to take this in, and I'm sure your dad can take you home later.
Yeah, he wont wait up.
He puts the bag with the casserole dish on the swing on the porch and waves her away as he digs for the spare key in his pockets. No keyring, he just - carries it, totally normally.
Opens the door, finally, and -
Thing is, no quick abandonment on either of their ends. They promised.
So instead of fleeing, Eddie stands. Frozen. Instead of fleeing, slamming the door and therefore all the effort that's brought them here, Chris gapes.
The guy standing behind Eddie, though, arms circling his dad's chest and head buried in his neck - he seems to not get the message. His hold squeezes his father and Chris can see one of his legs between the pair in front. Theres low music playing from somewhere, a Spanish tune he recognizes from his abuelo's shows, and the guy is trying to sway with it. That must be what pulls his focus to the rest of the room, when his head dips a little lower on Eddie's clavicle and he finds the man under his arms stock still and he chuckles, deep but still finding it's way to Chris across the room. "Not giving up now, are you?" He says and then finally comes up for air and flings himself from Eddie's back.
Its quiet, the confusion, even through the hasty movements as the guy - taller than the archway behind them, curly hair cropped tight to his head and decked out in dressed-down business casual - scrambles away from Eddie and gathers his things from the coffee table. He says something and Eddie idles like he has a response but cant form the words. Chris's hold on a crutch wanes a little.
Eddie snaps out of it first - expected - because hes got this guy that's obviously trying not to get too close to either of them as he flaps his hand and babbles to the both of them what Chris can only imagine is an excuse to make this all fade away. Hes mentioning something about Church of all things when Eddie finally pulls his eyes from Chris, flushes even further, and tells the guy to "go out the back. I'll uh - I'll talk to you later."
The guy disappears out the back. The change in pressure makes the front door bounce on its hinges, knocks into Chris's crutch.
The shelf is not stable. In fact, Chris thinks this shelf in particular, housing all things Edmundo Diaz, firefighter, father, has completely vanished. Spilled all these thoughts and ruminations on the floor like a spilled lasagna. He cant stop a giggle. "So this is what we do now?"
Eddie's voice is hoarse. "Chris - I -"
Chris brushes him off, pushes into the house with pointed clicks and clacks on his way to the dining table. "Theres lasagna on the porch." He slides into a seat and shucks off his crutches and turns to find Eddie still there, looking towards the front door. Rolls his eyes. "Its not as good as Buck's but bisabeula made it so you cant tell her that."
That knocks Eddie back to life, for some reason. He retrieves the lasagna, plates up two servings, slides them in the microwave and taps his finger on the counter as he watches them dance around each other inside. Stops every few seconds, takes a breath, and doesnt turn to check that Chris is still there. When they're done the beeping cuts through the room like a bullet and Eddie takes it like a champ, bleeds out as he sets the plates and forks and cans of coke on the table between them.
His back is tense and his face is pinched and his cheeks are red and Chris knows that he wishes he could run right now. It reminds him of when he read his moms letter about why she abandoned him. Sometimes you have to love from far away. They both know how to do that.
God but hes tired of the action.
"I'm not mad at you."
"You should be."
Chris scoffs. "Of all the things I can be mad at you for, this doesnt even tip the scales." That's kind of a lie.
Theres a piece of Edmundo Diaz, father spilled onto the floor that catches his eyes. Eddie on one side, Buck on the other, Chris in the middle miserably losing a round on Mario Party. Eddie's chuckling, his arm is extended behind Chris. Not on his shoulder. Bucks couch doesnt have a high back. Wheres his hand?
"That's - um - okay. Good?"
Chris shrugs. "Its not Buck's but it's alright."
"Mijo." Eddie says it like a prayer. He prays now, sort of. He goes to the church with bisabeula and lights those tall candles around the house. Tía Addie pulled him to the table during a round of bullshit and Eddie went easily, signed the cross when he was given a hand and reminded everyone with a shaky breath that hes not competitive. Total crock of shit. He doesnt know the specifics but he remembers Eddie coming home with all those steaks that one time. Buck cooked them - Eddie was only allowed to sear them. Inside. Supervised. Beaming like he'd caught a golden goose.
"You're into guys, dad, it's not, like, prohibition times anymore. It's fine." Chris takes a long drink from his coke. "Just dont be surprised if I never use the front door again."
Eddie chuckles, rye, and pokes his hunk of lasagna. Tries but fails to look at Chris.
Edmundo Diaz, firefighter. Chris started doing laundry a couple years back, strictly one load a week. Dad caught him rewearing underwear because he had to do two loads, once, and decided he'd never live a life where he needed that again. Small closet, comfy clothes, nothing more. Dad had a small closet but still did laundry every day, rain or shine, on account of the smokey smell. Even when he was at dispatch. He said it lingered.
"I'm sorry I didn't tell you, Chris. You deserve - "
"Can we not - "
They both fall silent.
"No." Eddie finally says. "The two of us, kid, we're better than that. I'm sorry I haven't - that I. I trust you, Chris, so much. You're so grown up and somehow you're so well adjusted and I - huh - I am doing my best to be better for both of us. So you can keep being, dios, such a kind, smart, amazing guy. And I can be someone that you trust, too."
He used to just say "You and me then everyone else." That phrase comes to him, shuffles on a shelf that does exist, then settles in the air.
"I should have told you... it was never my intention for this to happen, Chris, god. If you want to get rid of your key you can."
And that's - firefighter, who holds him tight at the end of a long shift. Wakes him up to fried eggs and crispy bacon and sugary mini waffles and still floats through the house like a zombie through it all. Huh.
"I don't want to leave you over this, dad." He runs away once, jeez.
This is all familiar, in ways it's not. His shirt is similar. Chris is ganglier, hangs his body differently, thinks more profoundly. Eddie's none of those - has a solid presence that saves lives, one that used to wrestle with him against his grandparent's wishes and hovered when they tested crutches. Has that stability in him that Chris used to cling to the moment he was home from school and found his father there, ready and waiting. Breathing. Alive. Dumb as a bag of rocks, bless him.
Okay, this is enough.
"Just... can we go home already."
Eddie takes a deep breath. "You just said you didn't want to leave."
"Not!" Chris grasps at his hair, clenching and unclenching. "Not you, dad. Not back to my abuelos and not to bisabeulas, or to tìas or Buck's or the park or where-freakin-ever! I want us to go home." He punctuates the end syllable by syllable, pounding an open palm on the table.
"You - ok, yeah. Yeah. If you're sure. We can start moving some things in, maybe get -"
"This isn't home, dad, this is a shell of a house." His voice echoes in the room.
"This is where I live now, Chris. This is home."
"No it's not."
It's a challenge. They both hear it. Good ole Diaz genes and all.
Eddie's lasagna is pulled apart like hes doing open heart surgery on that table. Chris finished his, somewhere along the line, and their forks are sat in mirroring positions against their plates. If he looks to the left - oh, right. Buck's not there. He's usually already up by this point, to be honest, offering Chris another helping. Hes not at the fridge either. It's still so odd.
Eddie follows his eyes and swallows something.
"I want to go home too, mijo."
"Can we? Please?" Eddie tears up. Doesnt look away. "Dad, please take me home."
Its quick, after that. He's quick - quicker to show and accept affection, quicker to use his words and explain himself coherently and catch onto those looks the adults around him share when they think he's an invalid or something. Its quick and easy saying bye to his friends and its quick when he tells his abuela he's going home and hes quick when he tells abuelo that yes, I'm certain this is what I want and no, dont get rid of my room and hey, maybe we'll be back for a visit this summer. He's still using his old duffle and hes quick to separate his clothes and his El Paso clothes. He hasnt grown that much. Hes not - without.
Dad's slower, but not in opposition to him. His house was barely unpacked so he doesnt need to rush. He calls Bobby just a day later and hes got the job before he's even asked, finishes the call behind watery eyes and in a different room. Buck sent him down with some kitchen gadgets he never used so he has his sisters over to take them away. They drink wine and bicker over a bread maker and say things like shame you're on your way out now that I kinda like you and now everyone in my book club has a gay brother in LA and dont forget us again.
They're almost back to LA and somewhere on the road, Chris finds that those pieces of Edmundo Diaz, firefighter, father are still scattered everywhere.
His dad is right here, though.

A few days ended up turning into a few weeks, and I could tell that Jayce fell into the same trap that I did. I had come here for comfort and ended up liking the interaction so much that I couldn’t leave. Jayce had come here to do something uncomfortable and ended up not being able to do it because he knew that the people around him loved him. He hadn’t intended to stay long but ended up falling into routine with us, the same way that I had when it was only Viktor and me.
The three of us had even started to sleep in bed together. Before now, Viktor would occasionally cuddle me if one of us was in a bad mood. He initiated affection often when I was tired or uncomfortable, but other than that, he wasn’t much of a cuddler at all. However, ever since Jayce came, we had all been inseparable. Jayce usually slept in the middle—sometimes swapping with me—and held onto Viktor as I held onto him. It was nice. It was comfortable. It did, unfortunately, remind me of our old trysts, though.
This was one of those days that I had woken up before the others. It didn’t happen often as Viktor would usually rise early to finish a lot of the simpler chores and make sure that we had enough food for breakfast. However, I was grateful for when it did happen because I got to look at the two men next to me and just… think about the situation I was in. I had found out some of the most horrible, traumatizing information about myself after being kidnapped. I ran away to find the only person who could understand me. I told off my mother. And then my ex-lover had found his way to us and joined us in our little community.
Things had come about in a rather awful way, but I couldn’t say that I wasn’t content with the way things were going. I really liked being reconnected with Jayce. He and I ended on the wrong foot, but I never truly stopped caring about him—I cared about him a little too much, actually. And I wasn’t quite sure if his decision to stay was a testament to his still having affection for me or his liking for Viktor. I feared that it may have been the latter, but I didn’t mind.
I had also started to feel myself become drawn to Viktor. I had realized this before Jayce joined us at the commune, but the feelings definitely became more potent after watching the man I had grown to be affectionate with caress the man that I had bedded in the past. Although the interaction was never anything but wholesome, it made a pool of warmth fill my gut.
I’d been left wanting a lot lately, not having much time to myself. Although I was still in bed with the others, I figured that maybe it would be okay just this once, since they were asleep and all. I held my hand in front of my face, wondering if I should really go through with what I was thinking… My nails had gotten quite long since coming to the commune, and the color was starting to chip. I would have to ask Viktor to get my nails done when he woke up.

“Well, not all of us are able to go months without release,” I huffed, trying to get my hand out of my pants, but Viktor pushed it back.
He hummed and closed his eyes, “Don’t stop on my account. By all means, do whatever you need to do.”
“You are not asking me to masturbate in front of you,” I scoffed and rolled my eyes, tugging on my hand once more. He didn’t fight it this time, clearly not wanting to make me uncomfortable despite the playful banter.

Jayce huffed and laid his head on my shoulder, “You didn’t have to leave me out…”
“I can make it up to you later,” Viktor rolled off of me, laying his head on my other shoulder as he moved his slick hand to Jayce’s bicep. “You know you’re not mad at me. Not really.”
Jayce leaned over me to place a gentle kiss to Viktor’s mouth—which was the first time, to my knowledge, that they were physically involved. Viktor didn't hesitate to deepen the kiss almost immediately. A moan escaped Jayce’s mouth as Viktor reached his hand to the other side of the bed to grab Jayce’s ass, pulling him close to my side and forcing me to feel his morning wood press against my skin. This was going to be a long morning.

Druitt POV 
*2 weeks later*
I was in catering with Bi and Jade right before Raw started tonight. We had just sat down near a table with our food.
Jade sighed as she sat down "I can't wait for this break we are about to get, I need some rest"
"Girl same" I agreed "I haven't seen my bed in what feels like forever"
"Once we get this break, Tez and I taking the kids on a little vacation" Bianca said as she scooped up some of her food.
"Ooh a vacation sounds bout nice" I nodded as I agreed with Jade. 
We continued our conversation as we ate. After we were done we all walked out. I checked my phone seeing it was almost time for the show to start.
"I'm bout to go to find Jey before the show starts, I'll catch up with y'all in a bit"
They nodded their heads and went the other direction, while I went to look for Jey.
After a few minutes I finally found him in his dressing room.
He looked up from his phone as I came in "Hey beautiful"
"Hey main event" He stood up and engulf in a hug, giving me a peck on the lips. 
"What's up with you?"
"Nothing, me and the girls were talking about this break coming up for us, and plans we're making"
"What you got planned?"
"Nothing really"
"Good," he nodded "I wanted to ask you if wanted to come down to Atlanta, I really want you to meet my mom and son" he said in a nervous tone.
I was shocked myself, my eyes slightly widen "Do you think it's the right time?"
"I do, I know we haven't been dating for long, but I see a future with us"
I blushed when he said that "Well in that case, I would love to meet them" I smiled at him as he smiled right back at me. 
"Why don't you fly back with me tomorrow, Joe lending me his jet while he's out"
"Ooh ok, that sounds good to me" 
"Bet, I'll see you after the show," he pulled me into another kiss, his hand gripping my backside "don't have me waiting for long"
"I won't, see you later Main Event" I pecked his lips again before walking out.

Jey POV
I had just got done with my match for the night, which was the main event. I walked into my dressing room and quickly freshened up. I grabbed my things and walked out starting the search for Druitt.
I've eventually found her talking to Bianca and Tez. I walked up next to her as she let out a laugh.
"What's up uce" Tez said and we dapped up. 
"Nothing much man, tired as hell tho" He nodded in agreement. 
"Yeah I feel that, we bout to head out ourselves"
"We need to link up later uce, whoop yo ass in some games" 
"Oh please, I whooped your ass in madden last time" he laughed "I'll take you up on your offer"
I nodded, and turned towards Dru, as her and Bianca said their goodbyes. 
"You ready to go love" 
"Yes I'm ready" I grabbed both her's and my stuff as we walked out to my rental car. The drive to the hotel was short, and we made it up to the room fairly quick. We both took quick showers, and spent the rest of the night cuddled up together til we both fell asleep. 
*The next morning*
After waking up, getting ready, and quickly grabbing breakfast we were finally on the jet heading back to Atlanta. 
"This jet is super nice, I've never flown in one before"
"Well get used to it, going to be plenty more of where this came from" I grabbed her hands, pulling her into my lap. "How you feeling?"
"I am excited but nervous," she sighed as she leaned back into me "do you think they will like me?"
"I don't think they will like you, I know they will love you" I kissed the top of her head as she relaxed a little more. 
We spent the flight watching a couple movies and snacking. We landed a few hours later, making our way to a driver that will drive us to my house. 
Druitt POV
After about an hour drive we finally arrived to Josh house

I was amazed at how beautiful it was. "Jey your house is incredible"
"Thank you, I really credit my mother on taking care of things when I'm on the road"
He grabbed both of our bags as we walked up to his beautiful front entrance. Once he opened the door the inside took my breathe away. The inside was just as gorgeous as the outside. 
"No fair, your house is way more gorgeous than mine" I couldn't help but to pan around to the living, and office, Jey laughing behind me.
"Your house is dope to" suddenly noise came from the kitchen area. 
"Joshua is that you?" Soon a beautiful woman walks out the kitchen with a towel in hand. Based on resemblance I recognized her as Jey's mother. She came over and gave Jey a big hug then turned to me with a smile "Hi, I didn't know you were bringing a friend home, I'm Talisua, how are you beautiful?"
"I'm good, I'm Druitt, but you can call me Dru, it is nice to meet you" I smiled as she brought me into a hug.
"It is very nice to meet you, are you hungry? I just finished cooking" She grabbed my hand and brought me to the kitchen, which was just as beautiful as the front area of the house. I looked back at Jey as he smiled.
"Ima take our things upstairs" he stated before venturing up the steps, leaving me with him mom. 
"So you wrestle as well?" she asked as she started fixing me a plate.
"I do, I've been wrestling since I was 18 fresh out of high school, I'm the current champion"
"Oh, congratulations!" She set the plate in front of me and suddenly I was really hungry. 
"Thank you" I said a quick prayer and started eating, I closed my eyes once I took a bite and moaned "Ms. Talisua this is really good"
"Oh please, you can call me Mama T, I have a feeling you'll be around for a long time" My eyes widen at her statement, as she laughed "I know you guys are dating, you seem like a sweet girl, I like you" I blushed and looked down.
"Thank you I appreciate it" I smiled, then that's when Jey walked in with his son right behind me. 
"What y'all in here talking about" he came and sat right next to me at the island, stealing a scoop of my food.
"Hey! This is mine, get your own" I slid my plate away from him as he smacked his teeth. 
"Oh like we don't share all the time" 
"Not when it's your mother food, this is way too good to share"
"Mom can I get a plate?" Talisua was cleaning up with her back turned towards us.
"Make your own plate" Jey let out a dramatic gasp.
"You fixed hers and not mine," He looked between the both of us with his eye brow scrunched together "I see that you stole my mom from me just that quick" he shook his head. "By the way this is Jeyce, Jeyce this is dad's friend Ms. Druitt"
"Hey what's up" I let out a small laugh.
"Hey little dude, heard you like call of duty, I beat your dad at it"
"That was only one time" I shook my head. 
"Yeah one time, then a time before that, and a time before that" 
Jeyce began laughing "ok bet, we should play it while y'all are here"
"Just set it up and let me know" I nodded, everyone sat down and enjoyed dinner together. Afterwards I helped Mama T clean up, and followed Jey upstairs to his bedroom. I did my night routine and clothes and took a quick shower. 
Once I was done I headed back into the room, seeing Jey already in bed with a movie paused waiting for me. I laid down beside him and cuddled up, wrapping his arms around me. 
"So how was it meeting my mom" He rubbed small circles on my hips.
"It wasn't bad, she said she liked me"
"I told you she would, Jeyce likes you already to" making me smile a little.
"I'm glad, I was nervous they wouldn't but it all worked out" I admitted, feeling the weight come off me.
"like I knew it would" he kissed the top of my head and laid back more. We watched a couple movies til we called it a night.

You tuck your letter away under your placemat as you eat, not wanting to open it up in the middle of lunch, even though the others had done so.
Truthfully, you were dreading whatever news your dad had for you and you would rather read it in private, knowing he rarely wrote to you so it must be some form of news, most likely bad.
George kept flicking his gaze to you at he ate, clearly checking on your well-being but you simply pretended that you were fine even though you could feel the pit on anxiety building up inside.
After lunch, you'd all decided not to go back to the lake but to shower and chill in the house as the sun was at its peak and quite frankly, you couldn't sit in it much longer. Hermione had packed already and had everything ready for her leaving later that afternoon, so you took some time to just spend her last few hours all together.
You were all sat around in the lounge, the coolest room in the house, some of you reading, some playing exploding snap and others just chatting. It was nice just to all spend time together even if you weren't all interacting as you escaped the heat in the coolest room.
"Wanna play a game? Like truth or would you rather or something?" Ginny asks after winning another round of exploding snap. "I'm not doing dares with these two here," she says, nodding towards the twins.
"What's that?" Ron says, confused.
"It was on a muggle movie we watched, they take turns and ask each other questions," she shrugs, not really able to elaborate further. "Sometimes it's like would you rather chose A or B."
"We're in," the twins say in unison, moving to sit closer around the coffee table.
You, Hermione and Harry were sat on the sofa, Ron in the armchair and Ginny and the twins were sat around the table on the floor, padded out with cushions.
"Yeah sounds good to me," you say, placing your bookmark into your book and placing it down next to you on the floor.
Everyone mutually agreed and you all began huddling round, deciding on the rules.
"Okay youngest to oldest," Ginny says, hearing immediate protest from the twins. "You chose first yesterday and today, time for a switch up." You laugh at her bossiness, having to sometimes remind yourself that she was the youngest but the twins, Fred especially, had a soft spot for her and actually didn't protest further.
"Right, Harry, truth or would you rather?"
"Umm, would you rather," he says, touching his glasses nervously.
"Would you rather spend the entire day with Draco or Dudley?" She asks, tucking a strand of hair behind her ear. He huffs out a little nervous laugh as he thinks before answering Dudley.
"Ron, truth or would you rather?"
"Would you rather," he says confidently.
"Would you rather, er, throw up slugs again or dance with Snape at the yule ball," Harry says with a devious grin. You had to admit the last one was good but it was much tamer than you originally had thought it would be.
"Vomit slugs, easy," Ron says, brushing his hair out of his face. "Hermione?"
"Um, truth?" She says, unsure of herself.
"Oh erm, ughr," Ron mumbles, not knowing what to ask. Immediately the twins begin to mock him and you even inwardly groan, finding the game boring already. "How many books have you read this summer?"
You roll your eyes and openly groan along with the twins, all three of you finding the questions too boring.
"I'll answer that for her, too many," Fred says, jumping in. "Right I'm switching things up." He immediately stands and walks off, coming back a few minutes later bringing an empty bottle with him, necking the last of the drink before he puts it on the coffee table.
"Whoever it lands on has to answer the question, then they get to ask the next question," He says, spinning the bottle until it lands on Ron.
"Ronald, still a virgin?"
You have to hold back a little chuckle at the sudden shift in tone at Fred's brash words and even without looking you know that Ron is beet red.
Ron manages to huff and puff, squirming in his seat as he does indeed turn bright red.
You found yourself dissociating away from the game as others answered, trying to squirm away from the harsher questions the twins were coming out with. You excused yourself and walked to the kitchen, feigning getting a drink as you sat at the table, pulling out your letter, unable to wait any longer.
"Dear y/n,
Your friend has written you a letter but did not know the address of the friend you were staying with; so please find their letter inside. Hope school is going well and you are staying out of trouble. Best wishes, dad.
You almost rolled your eyes at the bluntness of the note, feeling overwhelmingly relieved that it wasn't a true letter from your father. Casting the note to the side, you pulled out the second letter, written on both sides of regular notebook paper that had been folded somewhat neatly, the girly but messy writing already making you smile.
"My dear y/n,
We miss you so much, when are you coming back to see us? You've not really missed much, apart from Johnny has a girlfriend now! Weird right? It's actually kind of disgustingly cute. School is shit, just like normal but only one term left before college. Everyone misses you, the band just isn't the same without our rock chick.Dad's taking me to London after work on Friday, remember that coffee shop we found last time? I've made him promise to take me and he said that he'd eat the banana bread that you loved so it would feel like you were there with me! Hope to hear from you again soon. Love you! Val, Still your best friend x
You reread the letter multiple times, perfectly envisioning her voice as you read it. You missed her terribly, along with all of your friends, but Val had always been you're closest friend back home.
You sensed a presence behind you and turned to see George watching you with concern. You smiled at him and he looked instantly a little relieved, moving forward to stand behind you, placing his hand on your shoulder.
"Is everything okay with your dad?" He asks cautiously, knowing that the relationship was rocky and sometimes a sore spot for you. You snorted a laugh and nodded in reply.
"He was just forwarding a letter from my friend," you explained.
The beginnings of an idea were forming in your head as you looked at George, a rising hopefulness gathering in your belly.
"What time are your parents taking Hermione to the train station?" You asked, looking up at him questioningly, before craning your neck to look at the clock near the staircase.
"Um about two I reckon, why?" George asks, moving to sit beside you at the table in Arthur's usual spot.
"Do you think they'd let me go with them?" You asked and George immediately looked bewildered, "not to catch a train, I wanted to nip into London."
"I don't see why not, why do you want to go to London though?" He asked, thoroughly confused.
"My friends going to be there, I was hoping to surprise her and to be honest I could do with some new stationary before we get back to school," you explained, "maybe a new textbook or two."
"I don't like the idea of you going alone angel, can Fred and I join you?" He asks, warming your heart a little more at his concern. You burst into a smile and nod enthusiastically, it would be nice for you to go with the twins.
"I'd like to meet my friend alone though, no offence," you said, treading carefully. He smiled in understanding.
"Of course angel, you can meet me and Fred after, it would make me feel a lot more comfortable that way," he says nervously and you immediately reach over to kiss his cheek at his sweetness.
"Oi! Fred!" George bellows suddenly as you pull away. Fred walks out not a minute later after hearing his twin calling for him.
"Wanna go to London this afternoon? Y/n wants to go," George says, nodding towards you.
"I'm in," he shrugs, sitting down next to you at the table.
And that is exactly how you found yourself in the centre of a bustling and muggy Diagon Alley on a Friday afternoon with most of the Weasleys. Molly had jumped at the chance to go shopping and Arthur had gone along with it for the sake of his family. You knew where Val would be later that afternoon and hoped to be able to catch her but until then you strolled around Diagon Alley with the twins, having dropped Hermione off at the station and then broken away from the others as you weaved in and out of the stores.
Your first stop was Gringotts to exchange a muggle cheque your father had sent at the start of term for your school supplies before heading to Flourish and Botts for some new supplies.
"Wonder if they still sell Lockhart's shit?" You laugh as George opens the door for you.
"Doubt it, though fiction books always sell better," he laughs, following you towards the textbook area with Fred lingering behind.
Seeing a potion book you didn't own, you briefly flicked through it before putting it back on the shelf, realising it was utter trash. You briefly wondered if Professor Snape would let you borrow any of his own books this year, knowing that though they were much more advanced, they were immeasurably more informative.
You picked up a new textbook that you needed for your defence against the dark arts class and began wandering towards the back section when an overly excited Fred ran up to you and George, wielding a book.
"Twelve fail-safe ways to charm witches!" He says excitedly, laughing whilst flicking through the pages to show you a few diagrams and read out a couple of passages.
"And you need that why?" You asked defensively with a frown, not finding the underlying meaning very funny. He immediately senses your displeasure and his eyes bug out as he stumbles over his words as he tries to explain.
"Not for me princess, obviously, merlin, I meant for us to give it to Ron!" George immediately laughs at the plan and you absently nod, feeling a little off from the whole thing. You begin wandering away from them, making your way back to the potions area as they excitedly flick through the book.
"Professor?" You say smiling, spotting a familiar face within the potions section, his characteristic black hair and flowing capes always recognisable.
"Miss y/l/n," he says, turning in surprise at your voice, an almost smile tugging at his lips in recognition as he looks down into your basket. "I would have thought you already owned a copy of the necessary textbook for my class," he says with a hard but familiar tone, as if there's humour buried deep within it.
"I do sir, I was hoping to find something more advanced but they're all utter drivel," you said honestly, gesturing to the green book you'd looked at earlier. He huffs out a little puff of laughter though he tries to hide it before turning away to look up at the shelf. "Yes," he says, drawing out the syllable of the word before reaching up to the top shelf and pulling down a small, leather bound book that was hidden between two much larger books. He checks the spine and briefly flips it over before handing it to you with an almost smile, "this should be of use to you, it is well beyond the ability of a typical sixth or seventh year but you've exceeded all of my previous expectations, what's one more."
"Thank you Professor," you say as you reach for the book, trying desperately not to blush at his praise.
"Angel- oh, Um, Professor Snape," George says as he bounds around the corner, coming to an immediate holt as he spots the Potion master. Fred, clearly not anticipating his brother's sudden stop, barrels into George from behind as they both look up to see you and Snape conversing.
"Anyway," Snape says, his tone and features immediately hardening as he looks at the troublesome twins before looking back at you, "good day."
You follow him with your eyes, looking down at the book he'd given you before looking up again, just in time to see him cast one last glance at you before exiting the store.
"What did old Snapey want?" Fred said, throwing his arm around your shoulders.
"He recommended a book for me, said it would help me with my NEWTS," you shrugged, not directly trying to knock Fred's arm off of you but also not actively trying to keep it around you, still feeling a little uneasy about the misunderstanding with the book from earlier.
You walked and paid for the two books before shoving them into your little crochet shopping bag and walked over to Quality Quidditch supplies with the twins so that they could fawn over the new brooms and array of merchandise.
Checking the time, you briefly wondered when you should set off for the little muggle coffee shop just outside of Diagon alley that you knew Val would be visiting and decided to have another thirty minutes with the twins before going.
You ran into Molly and Arthur who were sat outside one of the tea shops sharing a pot of tea. They waved excitedly at you all and carried on with their little date that mainly consisted of people-watching and laughing.
You nipped to fetch a new quill and some parchment before eyeing up a new school skirt in Madam Malkin's but couldn't justify spending the money when you're old one would do, at least for the rest of this year. Fred, true to form, had quietly muttered some sexual innuendos about never having enough skirts and how much he liked you in them but you ignored him and instead left without the skirt.
"Okay, I'm going to meet my friend, not sure how long I'll be, where will I find you?" You turned, addressing the twins.
"Take all the time you want. We'll probably be in Gambol and Japes, if not we'll meet outside Ollivanders or come to you?" George said, pointing towards the joke shop on the corner. You nodded and reached out to subtly grab his other hand as you said goodbye. You turned to Fred and he subtly leaned in, looking like he was whispering in your ear and kissed the side of your head gently.
George then reached up and grabbed your shopping bag off your shoulder with a smile, "don't want her seeing any of this do you?" He slung it over his own shoulder and you had to bite your lip at seeing the 6 foot 3 Weasley boy lugging around a rose patterned crochet bag, but it didn't even faze him after wearing a lifetime of Molly's knitted creations.
Walking towards the coffee shop, your nerves were all over the place, firstly hoping that you could catch her and secondly that she would respond well to the surprise if you had your timings right.
Walking in, the little bell above the door chimed and you took a moment to look around at the customers, not seeing her signature blond hair anywhere.
"What can I get you love?" The barista asks and you ordered a caramel macchiato, something that you would never be able to find in the wizarding world. You reached for your little coin purse of muggle money and paid with the change, waiting to collect your drink at the end of the bar. When your drink was ready, you walked over to a table near the window and were immediately thankful that you'd bought along your book so that you'd have something to distract you and that the coffee shop had working air conditioning. Each time the bell chimed, you looked up in hope but then went straight back to reading your book, waiting for the next time.
"You have to get the banana bread!" You heard as the bell chimed and it immediately alerted you to the voice. You grinned as you spotted a shirt female with familiar blonde hair stood beside her absurdly tall dad who had dark brown nearly jet black hair.
They ordered their drinks and cakes, paid and then moved to wait by the end of the bar just as you had. Seeking an opportunity, you stood and walked over to them discreetly before putting on a voice, "excuse me?"
They both turned around with polite but confused smiles on their faces and you couldn't help but laugh at the reaction as waves of recognition passed over them.
"Oh my god!" Val squealed as she threw her arms around you, not a single care in the world about her absurd volume. You beamed and laughed as she rocked you in her arms, thankful you were able to see her again. "What are you doing here?! I thought you were in school? Did you get my letter?" She began to say frantically as she pulled away to look at you. You simply laughed and nodded, not even knowing where to start. She pulled you in for another hug and you held her just as tightly; only realising now how much you'd missed her.
You looked over her shoulder to Adam, her dad, seeing him smile widely at you both. When you pulled apart, he held out the plate of banana bread towards you, gesturing for you to take it as he pulled you into a side hug, having been close since you were five years old.
"No I can't, you have it," you said, trying to protest. He chuckled and ran his hand through his hair, "I don't even like it, I was just doing it to shut her up. It's really good to see you, kid."
He walked off with his drink to sit down near the table where your stuff was, happy to give you both space and to flick through his mobile phone for a while, something you hadn't seen in a long time.
You were desperate for a catch-up with your best girl friend and truthfully, you needed some one to talk through your problems with, someone with an unbiased, outsiders perspective; someone who didn't know the twins at all. The whole Amortentia incident was still fresh in your mind, only worsened by smelling the whizzbang smoke the other night and you were more conflicted than ever about your feelings for both of them. Val was the only one who wouldn't judge you for what you were doing, who you knew you could trust to talk openly to, at least without mentioning the magic.
Val grabbed her drink from the counter and moved over to your original table so that you could chat. She went first, immediately telling you about how she was seeing a guy at school and that her dad didn't know so you had to be cool about it. She told you more about what college she had picked and how the rest of your friends were doing and some chatter about new muggle movies and music you needed to experience
"So, what about you?" She asks, picking the last little bits of her cake off the plate. You huffed out a sigh and placed your drink back down on the table. "Oh no, what happened with Fred?"
You'd told her all about your crush on Fred a few years ago but had never mentioned much about his twin, though you'd spoken about him in a friend way. You figured there was no time like the present to offload all of your complicated feelings.
"It's, complicated," you say, picking at the lid of your coffee, "did I tell you that Fred told me he had feelings for me?"
Judging by her almighty gasp, you assumed not. "Problem is, so did his twin brother." Another almost comical gasp.
"Then I realised that I might also have feelings for you George and things are now a little complicated, to say the least." You were quiet now, just a little above a whisper to avoid someone overbearing.
"So what did you do?" She asks attentively, giving you her full attention. You sighed and looked up at her as you replied.
"I'm kind of dating both? For now, please don't judge me."
"I would never!" She says reaching her hand towards yours, "so you have to decide eventually?"
You nod. "That's the problem. Every time I feel like I'm starting to decide, something tips the scale and I'm right back to the beginning."
You rub your hands over your face trying to relieve some of the tension but of course it doesn't work.
"Who do you see a future with?" She asks, keeping her tone even as she takes a sip of her coffee.
"Well that's the thing, I've been staying with them this week and both of them have said the cutest things about the future and it's got me even more confused. We had separate dates earlier this week and I had a night with George first, well kind of the day and night because Fred was sick and we talked about what we were doing after school and how we both wanted one or two kids etc, and it was such a nice thought. Then the other morning I came downstairs and he was in the kitchen reading the newspaper, shirtless and looking hot as fuck and it made me think that it could be my future you know, husband in the kitchen making breakfast blah blah blah." You took a breath and carried on explaining as she listened to you, "but then with Fred, the other night, he was saying about how we'd live together and he's hold me every night and bring me cups of tea in a morning and god the constant marriage references," you took another breath, trying to remember not to overload her and forcing yourself not to mention the Amortentia outright.
"The thing is, I love them both but in different ways. George brings me comfort, he's gentler and more sensitive, real proper husband material. I can see our future completely and I'd be happy but then there's Fred. We'd have a happy, fun filled life, it would never be boring and I'd be happy with him. But now I know what it's like to be loved by both of them and I can't even bare to think of choosing one and losing the other."
Silence lingers around you both as you finish offloading your thoughts. The weight of your words hangs in the air and you have to shoot a look at Val to check that she's still with you, and then around to check no one was listening.
"What about quick fire questions? We write out the answers or tally them and you can see who you favour?" She asks and to be honest, it sounds like a good plan.
"At this point I'd do anything."
She immediately scoots over to sit beside you rather than across from you and leans down to pull a notebook and pen from her bag. She flicks it open to a blank page and draws a little tally chart with their names at the top.
"So I'll ask you a bunch of different questions and scenarios and you have to say the first one that comes to your mind," she explains as you enthusiastically nod along with her. She suddenly leans in to whisper in your ear. "Quick one, have you slept with them both?"
You nod slowly, feeling as if she would judge you but she simply nods with a neutral expression, as if it was just a regular thing to ask someone.
"Okay, who's messier?"
"Fred."
"Who's grumpier?"
"Fred."
"Who's the most romantic?"
"George."
"Who's funnier?"
"Fred."
"Who's more sensitive?"
"George."
"Who hugs you more?"
"George."
"Who kisses you more?
"Fred."
"Who's hornier?"
"Fred."
"Who gives better head?"
"George."
"Who has a bigger dick?"
"Fred," you say, quickly adding, "only by a fraction though." She nods, then begins changing tactics.
"Does Fred want kids?"
"Yeah, but he wants more than George."
"Who's more attractive?"
"They're identical twins," you say blankly but she reaches out and flicks you on the arm.
"And you can tell them apart so there must be differences," she reasons and you can't fault her logic.
"Um Fred? George's nose is a little bigger and his features are a little sharper I guess."
"Okay next set of questions," she says, looking up from her notes, "If you did chose one, who would take the rejection worse?"
"George," you reply, your heart doing a little twang of sadness at the very thought.
"Okay, fast forward five years, it's a Saturday morning, no work, no plans, explain what it would look like with George," she says, preparing to make notes again.
The memory of him in the kitchen the other morning, shirtless and reading the newspaper flashes into your mind.
"I wake up and he's not in bed but there's a hot cup of tea on the bedside table. He's in the kitchen, sat shirtless at the little table, reading the newspaper and sipping his tea. He pulls me into his lap, rests his head on my shoulder and reads the sport scores out to me and any news bits he knows I'd like. I make breakfast for us and we sit and eat at the little table laughing and chatting until we inevitably end up back in bed," you say, listing out each part of your little dream.
Val let's out a little 'aww' as she makes her notes before looking back up to you with a smile, "same scenario but with Fred."
"I wake up and he's sleeping next to me, still holding me from the night before. He wakes up and we don't leave the bed for another hour at least. He makes me tea and we make breakfast together and then we sit watching terrible tv, mocking the actors and awful storylines. He pulls me closer to him to cuddle on the couch and we spend the day just like that."
"Okay different tactic again, I want you to give me the pros for dating Fred or listing his best qualities," she says, flipping over the page and starting a new one entirely.
"He's funny and mischievous, kind to me, very protective. Hot obviously, like little stupid things like running his fingers through his hair or rolling up his sleeves. We're best friends so there's no weirdness and most people think we're dating anyway."
"Okay now George."
"Funny, sensitive and sweet, more considerate than Fred and more likely to notice somethings wrong. More likely to think ahead, and to apologise. He's comfort for me."
"And now worst qualities of Fred."
"Doesn't always think things through, can be impulsive and not think of the consequences. He can be a little mean, to his brothers and stuff, just a little more brutal than George is. He can be a little grumpy sometimes, usually about other guys or whatever like he's a little possessive. Not always the most responsible and can be a little unreliable."
"And George?"
"Follows Fred diligently, a little insecure, not as confident in himself, same as Fred that he doesn't always think of consequences."
"Okay last one, what are the pros and cons of being in a relationship with them in general?"
"Pros; wonderful family, great parents in law, I get along really well with their other siblings, share the same friends. I'd be happy."
"Cons?"
"Um well I guess there family isn't rich or anything, not that it bothers me, but for some maybe that's a thing? The only con is hurting the other brother."
"Right, your conclusion," she says, adding up the tally before looking back at you.
“You’re screwed.”

Hey guys so I wrote this a while ago! This is a Henry one shot it an OFC because I'll die on the self insert hill! LOL it gives me so much comfort. Is that weird IDK. Anyway this story is kind of heavy. I wrote this to get out some feelings about an SA that I had experienced. I've always been someone that if I'm stressed I rewrite the situation with a comforting outcome or a better outcome to release the stress or make myself feel better. I wanted to sort of write myself a way to get some comfort from the trauma. And I hope having a character like this sweet soft version of Henry may help some of you too. I never reached out for myself for help and maybe I should have but if you experienced something please talk to someone. If you need someone to talk to or just want a place to let it out my DM's are a safe space <3 Just as disclaimer this doesn't mention any of the actual situation that happened to me. Just a filler to get out the emotion. Still this is a fluff with lots of love and sweet gentle young Henry bc I just know in my soul this was and is how he is as a person!

I stared at myself in the mirror one more time. I needed to leave soon. If I looked any longer I would find something I hated and talk myself out of going. So I grabbed my bag and turned off my bedroom light. Nervous didn’t begin to describe how I was feeling. I’d never been to a party like this before. Sure I’d been out a few times in high school. But it was usually theater cast parties. And one time my friend and I stole some captain morgan from her parents liquor cabinet. But this was on an entirely different scale. 
Most of my drinking was a night in with the girls with wine or movie night drinking games. God I sound so boring. It’s not that I don’t enjoy partying. I was genuinely excited to be invited out tonight. Lilly and I had worked together for a few assignments in class. And we would say hi when we ran into each other in the dorms. But, I never expected to get a text this afternoon inviting me to her boyfriend's party. Purdue was an incredibly large campus. Upwards of 40,000 plus students. Yet somehow Lilly’s boyfriend Riley Hardesty seemed to know everyone. He was known for throwing huge parties all year. They weren’t exclusive. You could just be driving through the neighborhood and stop in.  But she told me a friend of  Riley’s had asked her about me. 
Matt Parker. I know of him. He’s in my English 204 lecture. But we’ve never talked. But he is really attractive. So maybe something good would come from all of this! I decided just to walk as my dorm wasn’t far from the house Riley and his roommates lived in. It was a cool night in mid october and I was definitely regretting the little black denim skirt I was wearing. I was smart enough to wear a cardigan but it was still cold. Thank God it's only 2 blocks down. I bit my lip nervously. Am I even going to know anyone here? Anyone I actually talk to? It’s too late now. I already got dressed and ready. I walked here. I have to go through with this. 
I took a deep breath and walked inside. Things were already full swing. I could hear the music outside before I even opened the door. No one seemed to notice me and honestly I was okay with that. I looked around scanning the room. Almost everyone had a drink in hand, standing around in groups talking. The smell of  pot hit me immediately as I started to walk through the house. I wasn’t  the least bit surprised. I made my way to the kitchen where I found multiple drinks, alcohol and mixers available. I kept it simple and grabbed a wine cooler. Something fruity. I was definitely going to need a buzz if I was going to be here longer than 5 minutes.
 I pushed my way out of the kitchen and found a quiet corner to drink and observe for a while. I was busy listening to some guys talk about last weekend's football game when I heard someone’s voice. And I realized they were talking to me. I shifted my eyes seeing a guy standing next to me. He was maybe 6’1, blue eyes, and brown hair with soft curls. I gave him a gentle smile,
“I’m sorry, what was that?” I asked. He smiled and chuckled softly. His smile was beautiful. 
“I uh, Just noticed your shirt. Are you a Def Leppard fan?” He asked. I looked down. I completely forgot that was the shirt I was wearing. I just thought a band t-shirt would look cute with the skirt. But
“Yeah! Well I know a few of their songs! My Mom was in her 20’s in the 80’s and she loved them!” I said. 
“She has good taste! They’re awesome! Are you here by yourself? Not trying to be creepy I just noticed you were by yourself over here and I wanted to make sure you were alright,” He rambled. I nodded.
“I look that out of place huh? Yeah, I um. I’m friends with Riley’s girlfriend. Well not friends necessarily. But I know her. Anyway she invited me because of some friend of Riley’s but I don’t know this isn’t normally my scene. Wow that was a lot,” I blushed. “Sorry,” I mumbled. 
“For?” He smiled, raising an eyebrow. “We’re talking. I like getting to know people! And I totally get it. This can kind of be a lot sometimes. I actually came with some friends but I needed to step away from all the crazy for a second. I’m Henry by the way.” He smiled, extending his hand. I took it and He squeezed mine softly. 
“Alayna!” I said. 
“It’s nice to meet you!” He smiled. “Which one of Riley’s friends? If you don't mind me asking,” He raised an eyebrow. 
“Matt Parker,” I said bluntly. “You know him,” Henry took a sip of his beer and nodded. 
“I do, He’s alright. We’re sort of friends I suppose. He may have good intentions. Listen, I know you don’t need my advice, but just be careful around him. I don’t know what you were expecting with him or hoping for. But he can be a little, well, if I had a daughter I wouldn’t trust him with her. But I could be wrong. I’m sorry, that was a bit much. I don't want to ruin your evening,” He said. 
“For?” I smirked copying his face from earlier. “You seem to have pure intentions. Just looking out for someone. That’s really kind of you actually. I honestly don't know what I was expecting. But I can handle myself. I didn’t really come out tonight for him. I wanted to actually let loose and have fun for once. I’ve been trying to have more adventures, meet new people, make new friends.” I smiled looking him in the eyes on that last part. He gave me a big smile and held out his beer bottle to cheers me. 
“To new friends,” He spoke and we clinked our bottles together. “I like you, I mean talking to you.” He said. 
“I like talking to you too! I was honestly super anxious about coming tonight. I was worried I’d be too anxious and awkward to have fun or it would be too much. Because this is a lot. I’m 100% sure I saw someone do coke off the kitchen counter. But I’m actually enjoying myself. Right now anyway.” I laughed. Henry chuckled. 
“Good! Well, I’m going to go find my friends but, what's your number? I’ll send you a text real quick and if you get overwhelmed or uncomfortable  or need to escape all of this for a bit come find me! Or text me. I’d be happy to be there for you.  And we can just chill out for a while.” I smiled and gave him my phone number. It was nice to meet someone as kind as Henry. You don’t meet a lot of people that… genuine and gentlemanly in places like this. He gave my shoulder a gentle squeeze before he walked off to find his friends. I wandered off to get another drink while I was standing in the kitchen waiting to grab another wine cooler. I felt someone lay their arm across my shoulder. 
“Hey gorgeous,” I recognized Matt’s voice. I gave him a soft smile. 
“Hi,” I spoke. 
“I’m glad you came tonight, You having a good time,” He asked, clearly buzzed. 
“Yeah,” I said tentatively “One hell of a party!” I laughed. 
“For sure!” He smiled and moved to the side of me taking his arm off my shoulder. “What are you drinking babe?” He asked. 
“Just Mike's lemonade.” I chuckled awkwardly. 
“Aw come on girl you can do something stronger than that huh?” He joked. I shook my head.
“I probably could but I’d rather not get sick.” I said. 
“Aw well come on at least do a shot with me?” He asked, giving me a puppy dog face and pouting. “Just tequila, we got training wheels!” He added. 
“I don’t know… I don’t wanna get too crazy,” I said. 
“Nah, it’ll be alright, it’ll just loosen you up a bit!” He spoke already pouring the shots. He slid one over to me. And a piece of lime. “Ready?” I picked up the shot and stared at it questioningly. 
“Alright,” He smiled. We clicked the glasses and hit them against the table before taking the shot. It was super bitter. I immediately followed it with the lime. But it didn’t help much. When I looked up again Matt had gotten me another Mike’s from the cooler.
“Atta girl!” He smirked. He took a step closer and I took the drink from him. Then I heard someone call his name from across the house. They were starting another game of beer pong. “That’s my que babe, but wait for me yeah? I’ll come back to you after this game!” He smirked and left a wet kiss on my cheek before running off to join the boys. 
Charming is certainly not a word I would use to describe him. But he’s nice. And he’s just trying to make sure I have fun. There’s no harm in that. I wandered around the party again. I opened up my new bottle and tossed the cap on a nearby coffee table. I thought about watching the beer pong game but I honestly wasn’t interested. I found the door leading to the backyard and saw there was a bonfire going. I stepped outside and found an empty seat by the fire. I watched it crackle for a bit and took a long sip of my drink. I felt a warmth inside me and knew it was coming from the alcohol. I started to relax as I listened to the fire and the white noise of the people chatting around me. It was a gorgeous night.
“Hey!” I heard a voice from behind me. “Funny meeting you out here!” Henry spoke, pulling up a chair next to me.
“Hey!” I said excitedly. “It’s calm out here. I like it!” I said. Henry smiled. 
“I do too, I love a good fire. Fuels the soul.” He half joked. 
“ I love the smell! Is that weird?” I laughed. 
“No,” He chuckled softly “Not at all! So, besides the band on that very cool shirt, What other music do you like?” Henry asked, leaning back in his chair and taking a long swig of his beer. 
“Oh all kinds. I’m a big lover of the stuff from the 70s though! Elton John, Heart, the Beatles, I guess they’re technically 60’s. I know it’s kind of old school but. I feel like they just don’t make music like that anymore.” I explained. 
“Classic! I like it,” He smiled. 
“What about you?” I asked. 
“Oh I’m all over the place too. I’m actually a big country fan!” He smirked. 
“I wouldn’t have expected that from you but I respect it. It’s not my favorite genre but there are definitely some good ones there!” I smiled. Henry and I chatted for a while. We talked about our majors. He's a history major. Where we’re from, he has an accent but I didn’t want to ask and be weird about it. He told me he’s from the UK. We talked about books, history and our friends. It was nice. A little while later I felt an arm around my shoulder again. I knew it was Matt. 
“There she is! Did you think I forgot about you babe?” He asked. 
“No,” I smiled blushing softly. He smiled. 
“Hey Henry! Are you having a good time, man?” He asked. Henry nodded and finished his beer. 
“Yeah! Actually I should go get another one. It was nice talking to you Alayna!” He smiled at me before he got up and left. I don’t know why but I could tell Henry wasn’t the biggest fan of Matt. He said they were friends earlier but I think he was just trying to be nice
I was shaken from the thought when I heard Matt’s voice again. 
“Hey, follow me!” He said enthusiastically. 
“Okay,” I smiled. I got up and followed him back inside. He led us upstairs and down the hall to what I assume was his room. 
“Too many people out there, I wanted to be alone with you,” He smiled. 
“That’s really sweet! It is pretty crowded.” I said. 
“Yeah,” He said blankly. “Are you enjoying the party?” He asked. 
“I am,” I said half telling the truth. I enjoyed talking to Henry. 
“God you’re so gorgeous,” He said. “I always want to talk to you in class but you always leave so quickly I never get the chance.” He said. 
“Thank you,” I blushed. 
“Can I kiss you?” He asked. I don’t know if I wanted it or if it was the alcohol but I nodded. He smirked and leaned in kissing me on the lips. It was gentle at first but then he quickly started using tongue. I felt kind of awkward. So I backed away. “Oh sorry, you okay?” he asked. 
“Yeah,” I lied. He just nodded and went back to kissing me. I kissed him back a bit but then I felt him start to feel me up. I froze. I really didn’t want that. He moved his hand under my shirt and I stopped him. 
“Uh Matt, I really don’t know about this.” I said nervously. He pulled back 
“It’s fine, nobody's gonna come in, don't worry about it.” He said and started kissing my neck. Oh god this sucks. 
“No I mean. I don’t… want to do this.” I stuttered. 
“Come on, it’ll be fun babe, it’ll be alright.” He kept feeling me up and continued kissing me. I felt stuck. He pushed himself against me, grinding into me. He moaned. I swallowed hard. Fuck, I really didn’t want this. 
“No, Matt, I really don’t want to.” I said again. 
“Shhh just go with it.” he said, shushing me. “You’ll enjoy it, I promise.” He said, sliding his hand under my skirt and rubbing his fingers against me. 
“No, stop Matt,” I said again, my voice quivering. He was definitely stronger than me. He used his other hand to take himself out of his shorts and he grabbed my hand putting it on him while he kept touching me, forcing his fingers inside. It hurt. I don’t know how but finally I found the strength to push him away from me. He stumbled back and fell against the bed and I ran out of the room. I could feel the tears stinging in my eyes already but I had to get out of this house. I quickly ran down the stairs and out the front door. Matt was pretty drunk so I don’t even think he tried to follow me. I walked a little way down the street and stopped letting out a sob. What the hell just happened. How did I let that happen? How could I have been stupid enough to trust him or follow him? I didn’t know what to do. I probably should have headed back to the dorm but I didn’t want to be alone right now. I took to my phone trying to think of who to talk to. 
I saw I had a text. It was Henry. “Hey it’s me! Henry I mean lol feel free to text me anytime.” I sent him a quick text taking a deep breath and trying to pull myself together. I didn’t want him to see me like this. I was so stupid. He tried to warn me. 
“Hey, it’s Alayna, where are you?” I sent it. To my surprise he responded almost immediately. 
“By the fire, You okay?” it read. 
“Would you wanna go on a walk with me?” I asked. There’s no way I could go back there. 
“Sure :) where are you?” 
“On the front sidewalk like 3 houses down toward campus.” 
“Be right there!” true to his word about 2 minutes later I saw him walking down the sidewalk toward me. 
“How are you?” He asked. 
“Good,” I nodded absentmindedly. 
“Were you leaving?” He asked.
I um,” I stuttered “Yeah, it was just… too much. I was gonna head home. I feel stupid I was just gonna walk home. I'll be fine, I’ll let you have fun. I don’t wanna interrupt your night.” I rambled. 
“No! Please do! I’d be happy to walk you home. Talking with you was the most fun I had tonight actually.” He stated simply. I smiled weakly.
“I’m glad.” I said. 
“Are you alright?” He asked me. I sighed trying not to get emotional. 
“Yeah, just a little overwhelmed and tired.” I lied. We walked in silence for a bit. I couldn’t believe how kind he was. The fact that he would leave his friends to walk me home. He was genuinely concerned about me. That feeling made me even more overwhelmed and finally after everything I could help but start crying. I felt like I had no control over my body as I started to sob. I felt my shoulders start to shake. Henry stopped and put his hands on my shoulders.
“Alayna what's wrong?” He asked me. I tried so hard to speak.
“He wouldn’t.. And I said… no, but he kept…” it all came out in broken sobs. Henry didn’t say anything. He just pulled me into him and hugged me tightly. After a few seconds. I started to calm down and tried to steady my breathing. 
“Shh it’s alright,  just breathe.” I heard him say. I slowed my breathing. “Did he touch you?” He asked gently, trying not to upset me again. I couldn’t speak, I just nodded. Henry went stiff. I looked up and saw his jaw was clenched. “Mother fucker,” He mumbled quietly under his breath. Then he spoke louder “Do you want to go talk to someone? Like report it?” He asked. Again his voice was gentle. I shook my head. 
“I can’t, I know I should but I really can’t, not now.” I said. He nodded. 
“Okay, well let's get you home.” He said. I started to walk again. Henry kept an arm around me as we walked. We were quiet the whole way there. He walked me all the way to the door. Wanting to make sure I got in okay.
“Thank you,” I said. But just as he turned to leave I grabbed his hand. “Wait, please don’t go.” I said, trying not to sound desperate. Not that I had the energy to care. 
“You want me to stay?” he asked. I nodded. 
“Yeah, no, I .. I don’t .. You don’t have to, I’ll be okay.” I said. 
“Hey,” He paused, grabbing my hand. “It’s okay, I don’t mind.” So I took off my shoes and slipped into the bathroom to change into some shorts. I laid in my bed and Henry sat next to me. “Do you want to watch something?” He asked. I nodded. And turned on my TV scrolling aimlessly. I stopped on some old 90’s sitcom. 
“Thank you, for staying,” I said. 
“You shouldn’t be alone right now. And I meant what I said. I had more fun talking to you tonight than with anyone else.” He smiled sympathetically. 
“I did too,” I said.  I sat up going to kiss him but he stopped me.
“Not tonight, darling. Believe me I would love to kiss you. But I think you’ll regret it later if you do this now. I like you. I’m not going anywhere. Let's take this slow. You’ve been through a lot tonight. I’ll still be here when you’re ready. But I think tonight you need to rest.” he said. The universe gave me Henry tonight. If I hadn’t ran into him. I’d have been alone after being sexually assaulted by a guy I barely know. Any other guy wouldn’t have treated me like him. He was so gentle and respectful. He was genuinely looking out for my best interest when he could’ve taken advantage of my vulnerability. I just nodded.
“I’m sorry that was stupid.” I sighed. 
“No, it wasn’t” he put his arm around me pulling me into his side and I naturally rested my head on his chest. “You don’t need to apologize. Try to get some rest.” He spoke gently. I could hear his heartbeat and my breath slowed to match the rhythm. Eventually so did he. I looked up to find him asleep with his arm still around me. I settled in snuggling into his side. All the noise around me slowly faded away and I finally got to rest, falling asleep in Henry’s arms.

*Long, exasperated sigh*
Ok. Chaos Theory season two review.
Spoilers below the cut. This might be a long one.
When this show was first announced, I was thrilled. The characters that meant so much to me would be coming back in a new series. I almost cried once after the first teaser leaked because I was just so excited to see Darius again. I was admittedly a little nervous too. Camp Cretaceous ended on such a good note. Did we really need a continuation? Going into the first season, I was cautiously optimistic.
Then it came and went. I liked it fine, but it wasn’t the same as Camp Cretaceous. In the following months I felt the years long grip JWCC had on me start to loosen. So by the time this season two came around, I was the least excited I ever had been for a new season.
For all of its run, Camp Cretaceous was so good because it simply refused the flaws of the current Jurassic movies. Where the JW trilogy prioritized action, JWCC prioritized the characters and their bonds. Where JW treated dinosaurs like scary monsters, JWCC treated them like animals. Where JW didn’t know when to end, JWCC ended when its story was finished.
Chaos Theory feels like this side story finally adhering to the rules of the franchise. The characters take a backseat to convoluted plots and mature dinosaur action. The story continues even though it doesn’t need to.
I’m not saying the season is horrible or even bad. I just feel like this show, despite its many strengths, hasn’t yet justified its existence to me. If you’re going to uproot the amazing ending of the first show, it has to be for good reason. And I’m just not convinced yet.
First, what I liked about the season:
-The first episode was genuinely so good. Like seriously amazing stuff. Great atmosphere and tension and sets up the rest of the season nicely.
-Brooklynn!! My least favorite camper in JWCC was my favorite this time around. Her flaws were layered and interesting and her motivations were compelling. Her flashback episode was my second favorite. Her relationship with Ronnie was good, and I consistently found myself drawn more to her side of the story.
-This kind of goes without saying but the art direction is still just so good. The lighting is so perfect, the models and the way they move are perfect, everything is just really nice visually.
-I liked the ending. I was worried that everyone would be happy and reunited by the end of the season and it would be too easy, so I’m glad they’re stretching out the conflict.
-The video call scene in episode three. It was just really cute. Good cute moment.
Ok. And now what I didn’t like so much:
-I feel like nothing happened this season? Like all the information in these ten episodes could have been condensed to five. Just really frustrating pacing. Felt like a lot of filler (a whole season of filler).
-I’m just really upset with how the characters were written. Why were none of them (except Brooklynn) interesting? Who even are these people? Why do they have the most generic dialogue ever? Like, I’m expected to care about Kenji, but that’s just literally not Kenji. He doesn’t look, sound, talk, or act like Kenji. Why is his character just being angry and making bad puns now? Why is Ben so boring? Arguably the most interesting character in JWCC is just some guy now? I know a lot of people will disagree with me on this but I can hardly be convinced to feel for these versions of the Nublar Six.
-The new characters were ok at best. They were all serviceable and likable, but I just couldn’t really understand why they were there. Zayna was completely fine, but I saw no reason for her to tag along the entire season. I really just don’t think she contributed much besides acting as a tour guide. The scientist guy was just completely one dimensional. Evil scientist. That’s the character.
-And the best new character from last season just never came back. Where was The Handler? She was such a highlight last season and she had one scene. Bummer.
-The Camp Fam finding out that B is alive was so underwhelming? It felt random and undeserved. There was little build up so what should’ve been a really important moment didn’t have much gravity for me.
-I get what they were trying to do with the hippos and lions but I just don’t really care, sorry. I’m watching Jurassic World, I want to see dinosaurs. I at least appreciate the thought though.
-I wish Brooklynn’s plot hadn’t been faking being bad to get cozy with Santos. It felt like a rehash of Darius pretending to be with Kash in season four of JWCC. A much better rehash, yes, but a rehash nonetheless. I just wish they’d done something more interesting there.
-There were several plot points from last season that were hardly/never brought up. Darius’s crush on Brooklynn, Ben’s girlfriend, Sammy and her family, etc. Why?
I have more stuff I could say but I don’t want it to seem like I think this is the worst season of tv ever. Or even the worst season in JWCC/CT. There’s a lot of genuinely good stuff in here, I just feel like it gets meddled with all the junk being in a franchise comes with. Camp Cretaceous avoided it to an extent, but eventually, it caught up. I know a lot of people like this show and I’m happy for them, but I’m just not one of them. I hope my complaints are addressed in future seasons, but honestly, I won’t count on it.

The Democratic National Convention was an incredible night. It was so fun to be there and so fun to share it along the way!
A few highlights:
Obviously, the most meaningful and incredible part of the night was Joe Biden's speech, and the nearly 5 minute ovation he got when he came out. People were so moved seeing him, and it genuinely was really hard to settle down and listen! I've seen many politicians speak, including Joe himself several times, but I've never seen the sitting president speak, and I don't think anyone outside that room will ever see a president speak in such a meaningful moment after what Joe did for this campaign. He was as sharp and charming as ever, and I would have been proud to vote for him again, but I am thrilled that he is handing over his operation so seamlessly. Just a beautiful moment.
Kamala came out on stage about halfway into the night and I screamed like it was the beatles.
Doug loved waving the signs just like everyone else in the crowd.
We were a bit nervous at the start bc the show "started" at 5 and the arena was maybe 1/3 full, and even at 8pm there were large sections that were empty. But by the end of the night it was PACKED and no one was leaving ahead of Biden, even though it ran way late. The energy was just INSANE and I am so happy that if I only got one night to go, it was for the Biden keynote.
Seeing Jesse Jackson was so, so special. People were really moved when he came out!
Jason Isbell!! I love him so much and he wore a tuxedo and looked and sounded so great and I hope he can entice the kind of democrat we need to have come back to the party!
The section on abortion was insanely moving and these families and women were so brave to share their stories.
I thought there would be more filler and deadtime but outside of the two musical performances, which were just one song each, a few taped messages, and some emcee work by Peggy Flanagan and Tony Goldwyn, it was all business. Just boom boom boom.
The infrastructure of this thing was breathtaking. From the protest management to the Secret Service tent to the volunteer network to the rideshare system on the way out, it was just incredibly smooth. I am very glad I've been through the secret service tent before (a few times, but the most similar to this was the ticketed area on hutchinson field in grant park on election night 2008), bc my little traumatized nerve system may not have loved it if I hadn't taken part in something like that before. But I felt super safe!
I always say I could never join a cult but baby I sure could have last night!! Maybe I will go around the country giving keynotes about how much fun I had last night being a democrat, in an effort to recruit more democrats.
Anyway it was thrilling and special and made me feel so proud of my country and my party.
