Part 1 of An Entire Presentation about Bakugo Katsuki for your Discoursing Pleasure

I made a presentation because I love Blorbo from my shows and want to share him with the world! If you feel you can use it in your life, please do. In fact, contact me and I can give you the PDF. If you want me to present it myself, however... let’s talk. Don’t think I won’t be absolutely thrilled to talk about Bakugo at a con or in your living room or to your mom.

What you see here is a combination of self-guided research (particularly runoff from other shonen I like or I-need-to-know-stuff-about-Japan-in-a-general-sense writing research I’ve done) and absorption from fan discussions and other fans who have taught me so much. @rironomind @pikahlua @greenhappyseed @the-nysh and so many others, thanks so much!

I am gonna warn you right now that this is 112 slides long and spread across multiple posts. I’ve put the rest under the cut because I love you all dearly and wish to spare you. Beware of BNHA manga spoilers and BNHA Vigilantes spoilers! I’m current and dangerous.

He’s the worst! He’s an asshole bully! He’s taken the current popular anime world by storm! He’s Bakugo Katsuki of Kohei Horikoshi’s My Hero Academia/BNHA and he inspires big opinions from all who know him. If you don’t know anything else about him besides his name and his face, don’t worry: he’ll probably make you hate him in the first episode!

But not for long, apparently. His fans (that includes me!) think he’s pretty great. He’s won the Japanese BNHA character popularity poll seven times in a row (out of eight total polls) and the North American polls four times out of five. The image above is the fourth North American popularity poll results.

It’s important to note that Bakugo didn’t just win in North America. (Apparently, Bakugo doesn’t “just” win anything - be it in the series or in real life. He does it to THE GREATEST DEGREE POSSIBLE.) His votes outnumbered the second place winner by an obscene margin. There’s some practical reasons for this (perhaps the demographic of people who wanted Bakugo to die and go away earlier in the manga may have stopped reading the series because his continued involvement drove them away?), but we’re going to focus on the attributes of the boy himself rather than external factors. Please be aware that my focus is primarily manga-specific! I’ve seen the anime and I think it’s fine and dandy, but for the sake of consistency we are going to view him from a manga-centered lens!

What else can I say? We love him because he sucks.

It’s true! I don’t give a crap if I change your mind. I don’t care if I influence you at all! This is meant to be informative in that it gives you, the audience, a lens into some of the stuff Bakugo fans see. If you don’t see it, then that’s great! You don’t see it! Move on with your life! I do not expect you to agree, but I would love to hear and reads your thoughts once you’re done digesting everything I’m about to throw your way.

At a glance, Bakugo sucks! He sucks so much! He’s the worst kind of smug, entitled asshole you probably went to school with or experienced in some form in your life. Or maybe you were this person at some point? Maybe just a little bit? Just a smidge? Maybe just for a few qualities on this list? Hm?

No? Well, all the better. It’s so great to know that some people really were born perfect. Thanks for taking the time to deign to interact with the rest of us plebs. Keep your crowns up, kings, queens, and mighty sovereigns.

One of the major drivers behind why people like certain characters is in how well they understand them. Not necessarily that they agree - just that they understand them. If you are (or were) any of the things I’ve used to describe Bakugo and can recognize it in yourself, you can probably already relate to Bakugo on some level and see where this narrative is going. The BNHA story rocks his shit from the very first chapter (and before, actually, once we get more context of his childhood) like in any stock “shonen bully gets knocked down a peg or sixteen” narrative, but also takes the time to give context to the world outside Bakugo’s control and how it influences him.

I’d never exactly call BNHA biting socio-political commentary (c’mon, y’all, it’s a shonen manga and that’s what it wants to be!), but it isn’t toothless. Then again, I’m from the USA where we put just about anything on the news and say whatever we want all the time, so take that with a grain of salt.

...And while the story takes the time to put Bakugo in his place, it also adds some layers of nuance to his situation. It’s important to note that the manga’s principal character and narrator, Midoriya “Deku” Izuku (y’know, the kid Bakugo bullied) is also a child with a limited point of view. He’s aware of some of this stuff, but clueless about the rest. Some of the “surprises” the story (and Bakugo!) offer isn’t actually a twist, but just stuff that Deku didn’t realize or know about.

Let’s give it up for real-world parallels, everybody. In particular, please keep in mind that this story is Japanese and not Canadian or from the US, so not all Western-centric thinking is going to apply to the manga’s modern-Japan-reflective reality. We’ll talk more about that later.

While the slides don’t discuss this specifically, I’d like to point out that the BNHA world is obsessed with Heroes as public figures. There is an obscene amount of pressure by society that Heroes are polished and perfect just as they are competent and powerful. The BNHA world is obsessed with their personal narratives and public presentation because they are a commercialized commodity just as they are public figures. Basically, the BNHA Hero world is trying to frame its own reality as a comic book with “good guys” and “bad guys” even though real life doesn’t work that way in practice. The characters themselves are doing this, too, and not just as a cute meta-joke for the reader. It throws their world into a wild kind of half-delusion half-truth reality. It’s like modern celebrity culture gone off the rails and also married to the general media and public service. Truly, it’s a monstrous industry with pervasive reach.

TLDR: the BNHA world is one glutted with propaganda.

But back to how this ties into Bakugo specifically. One, Bakugo often refers to other characters as “extras/side characters/supporting cast.” It’s awful and rude, but he’s not actually wrong. It’s very twisted.

There is a massive amount of expectations and pressures placed on not only established Heroes, but Hero hopefuls like the students at UA. I point this out because it may offer insight into some of Bakugo’s motives as I go deeper into this presentation - particularly since he’s thrown into the public eye as a celebrity victim by the end of chapter 1 and the fallout of that affects his actions even into the Sports Festival.

Context is important.

Context is really important! Knowing your comics is important! I love deconstruction-reconstructions! I love pastiche!

And while it is a shonen manga about shonen manga, it’s also a sort of echoed reflection of the real world. You’ll notice I start color-coding words throughout these slides.

If it’s red, it’s about Japan, Japanese shonen manga, society, social expectations, the self as reflective of society, or the role of protagonist.

If it’s blue, it’s about the West, North American comics, or deuteragonists. Why? Because in this discussion, discussion of the West is secondary! That’s the hope, anyway. I tried.

If it’s orange, it’s either a general header, highlight for color difference, or specifically about Bakugo.

If it’s teal-green, think of Deku for me, okay?

Context is really, definitely, absolutely, super duper important!

This presentation is about potential reasons behind his popularity, remember? And please remember that this is centered around the manga more than the anime.

Bakugo would want me to put “main character” in his colors if only just once. I had to do it for him.

However, if anyone reading this is going to INSIST Bakugo is “the Vegeta” even after this, do me a personal favor and compare him to the older initial inspiration for the character type: Tetsuo Shima from Katsuhiro Otomo’s Akira.

We love a boy who, well, we love a boy who is a boy, you know?

Oh, beloved little gay summer costume. Only you could make it look this good even as your fans make fun of you for it, Bakugo.

It’s “edgy”. It’s cringey. It’s got massive grenades and lots of black and scary things that a teen boy would think is cool and flashy but look absolutely stupid to the rest of us. And yet he pulls it off. Hats off to Horikoshi-sensei for making a character with enough on-page charisma to do that. I absolutely love his costume for all of the things I’ve outlined about it, but also because it screamed “HELLO I AM TRYHARD SHONEN PROTAG!” from the moment I saw it.

This next part is a little more in-depth and meandering, but please bear with me.

BNHA is a Shueisha/Shonen Jump property, so these references are fair game. Horikoshi even dressed Bakugo up like Luffy in a little extra comic! Look!

Also, I’d like to point out that Monkey D. Luffy from One Piece is intentionally meant to be like Dragonball’s Son Goku. It’s a feedback loop of "shonen protagonists are like THIS!” that’s existed for decades at this point.

I also bring before you Ichigo Kurosaki from BLEACH (arguably the best-dressed shonen protagonist in the history of the genre - JoJo fans, I am ready and willing to listen to your argument to the contrary) on this slide mostly because I love him rather than because of his costuming, but he’ll become more relevant later. (The hair. The glare. The need to maintain his reputation...)

Do you know the impact of Go Nagai’s Devilman on the shonen genre? No? Well, you might know the next series I’m going to bring up, so it’s fine. I don’t think Horikoshi was necessarily thinking of Devilman when he made Bakugo’s mask look like this, but I know he was thinking of what’s on the next slide, which was definitely thinking of Devilman in the inspirational zeitgeist.

Also, do you know the plot of Devilman and how it might reflect on the plot and characters of BNHA? How it’s about a boy who is “chosen for his pure heart” to wield a great power that is also a curse (and also is a whole other presence living in his body) and is linked to humanity changing into beings with strange bodies and powers and how that causes an upheaval in society that ultimately ends with the world being destroyed? And how at the end everyone realizes their folly and that the Devilmen are really just human beings who have been denied their right to exist because they are different? What? That sounds like any given shonen? Well! Looks like you might understand how influential Devilman is.

...Or, wait, no? You don’t? Well, don’t worry about it. The original Devilman is, respectfully, the worst manga I have ever read. I’ll go to bat for Devilman:Crybaby, though.

So yeah. If you don’t know Devilman, you probably do know Naruto. And Boruto.

So, yes. It’s about the look. In summation, Bakugo’s costume is intentionally chosen and he knows it. It’s purposeful. A lot of the other BNHA Heroes and Hero hopefuls intentionally draw from existing figures - and not just because Horikoshi likes references (though he sure does!) but because the characters want to evoke recognition from the public (and the readers) about who they are and what they do. Shota Aizawa/Eraserhead is an “underground hero” who is out of the public eye. He’s a ninja. All Might, while Japanese, is modeled after, y;know, a western superhero. (He and his in-story retirement can be interpreted as an... interesting take on American military occupation leaving Japan. Particularly in that All Might the figure didn’t solve crime - he merely suppressed it and upheld what was an otherwise unsustainable system. Is this offensive? I leave that to you. This topic is not today’s discussion!)

Some Heroes, like Rumi Usagiyama/Mirko (not pictured), draw on figures from folk tales (she’s the rabbit making mochi in the moon!) or mythology. Oboro Shirakumo/Loud Cloud on the top right is obviously emulating Son Goku, but specifically younger Goku and the character’s Journey to the West-inspired roots. I will touch on Goku again later, but just know that, for the purposes of this discussion, Shirakumo is splitting the difference between shonen manga, classic literature, and folk tales in his choice of inspiration. Speaking as a fan of Dragonball (and Journey to the West in concept), the fact that the character who strove to follow in those footsteps is dead is deeply upsetting. And that’s just from me making the associations! That’s separate from the absolutely emotional journey Aizawa’s backstory took me on regarding this guy’s life and death!

That’s some specific taste and background on me, but it’s also a detailed example of how much of the manga-reading audience may be influenced by the characters’ choices of inspiration regarding their presentation. Much like Bakugo’s costume, the entire BNHA series intentionally draws from other sources. While it’s not explicitly stated, the characters know about these other manga, too. These figures are part of their cultural zeitgeist! Think of it like literary allusions made with other comics.

Anyway, back to Shirakumo as Son Goku/the Monkey King: since so much of the shonen genre - particularly in the protagonist role - is tied up in Son Goku specifically, one could argue that Bakugo’s shonen-protag-specific costuming choice is signalling something to the audience in a similar way as Shirakumo, too. I know it does for me.

It’s about the look.

My dear Son Goku (honorable mention for Cell Saga Son Gohan in the corner) and his series may be a major genre influence, but there are older ones out there.

So, admittedly, having background knowledge and personal connection to Astro Boy is specific to me rather than the audience as a whole, but I bring it up because it is just as - if not more! - influential on the genre and the Japanese conscience than Devilman.

Unlike Akira Fudo in Devilman, Astro/Atom is not “possessed by a devil”. Instead, he’s a robot boy who is powered by a nuclear core. Put simply: at any point in the series he could choose to blow everybody up. He doesn’t, but the portrayal of shonen power being double-edged is pretty much a genre requirement since then. Going back to Dragonball - the Super Sayan/Sayajin form was initially an ambivalent-to-dark power. It wasn’t until Cell that this portrayal was hand-waved (and even then, Gohan still had a personality change when he achieved the second form of it.)

Anyway, this association of power in BNHA isn’t subtle. Bakugo blows stuff up with his sweat and wears grenades on his hands. His initial all-or-nothing stance on “winning” meaning everything doesn’t just remind me of the pressures of modern academia and success on today’s children and how it warps them. It reminds me of WWII and post-WWII nationalist thinking rooted in fear - for any nation - which, for this discussion, is in turn echoed in modern Japan’s academic pressures. That may not be what Horikoshi was thinking as he was writing the character or the series, but it’s something always lurking in the background for those familiar with the genre.

I can’t shake it and I’m sure I’m not the only one.

I bring all of this up because, as much as I love a good shonen series, they have (and in my opinion, should be aware of) a dark core that is, in the modern day, still shaped by the fallout of World War II. Bakugo’s hero costume, with all of its black in addition to the red and orange, really does suggest the reality of a shonen protagonist stripped of all the fluff. He’s dangerous, powerful, maladjusted, and unpleasant - which is a direct and honest reflection of what a shonen protagonist would actually be like in modern society. And he does it on purpose because that is the expectation placed on him even if at the beginning of the series he doesn’t yet realize how and why that is - or how much bigger the world is and what exactly he’s asking to inherit with his chosen Hero role. THAT is an angle of exploration one can sink teeth into.

Later in the series, Bakugo refers to Deku’s One for All, which is basically a quirk bioweapon even by the BNHA world standards, as a “cursed power.” Contextually, he seems to be thinking more of the obligations placed upon the quirk holder, but he’s hit the nail on the head with that assertion.

So, you know how I said readers likely wouldn’t have a strong tie to Astro Boy? Well, Godzilla is another portrayal of great power (nuclear power) and the ambiguous nature of it. Obviously, this association was made and put forth into the world even if not through the lens of Astro Boy.

Presenting Bakusatsuo: King Explosion Murder... of kaiju! We love him, we fear him, and we think he’s a huge asshole. Can’t imagine a world without him.

Horikoshi has made no secret of the fact that he loves Spider-Man and it influences him greatly. More power to him.

Presenting: Mothku! Friend to the children and sometimes nemesis, sometimes, um, friend of Bakusatsuo. You know the discussions about how Godzilla and Mothra are the king and queen of kaiju, yes?

And no, I don’t mean American comics. Sorry.

I mean Japanese delinquents! Wow!

So, the subculture’s original “look”, the pompadour hair and (when not in non-compliant school uniform) Hawaiian shirts, was inspired by US GIs who hung around in the country after World War II and were based there during the Korean War. They definitely solidified stereotype of Americans as loud, rude, insensitive, and also as “winners”.

I’m not the right person to talk in-depth about the complicated relationship that Japan (or any other country) has with Westernization, particularly by the US, but just know it exists, okay? The point is, delinquents, or “Yankees” (y’know, like Yankee Doodle, or the term people from the US uses to refer to people from the northeastern part of the nation) became a counterculture by emulating the swagger and abrasive individuality of these GIs. Eventually, the delinquent “look” came to be anything that flew in the face of the conventional. Tattoos and dramatically shaved or dyed hair are common looks.

Usually, delinquents either fall out of the subculture and assimilate into society or they get picked up by the Yakuza.

Or, you know, delinquent types are the main characters of a slew of shonen series made in the ‘80s, ‘90s, and early 2000s. Or they’re Bakugo!

Specifically, Bakugo is going for the “delinquent with a perfect attendance record” trope. I’ll admit that when I first watched the English dub of the anime, I didn’t immediately pick up on the fact that he is leaning into this trope as hard as he possibly can because strange hair colors are normal in BNHA, his speech pattern isn’t nearly as contrived in English, their middle school teacher doesn’t hate him, and he’s such a little goody-two-shoes rule-follower outside of his mean personality. On even glancing the manga’s way, though, it hit me like a ton of bricks. There’s nothing else he could be even if he is utterly transparent about it.

Personally, whenever I watch him ham it up as a delinquent I see a kid wearing a Halloween costume in my mind. I find this self-aware overcompensating hilarious once I get over the secondhand embarrassment.

And while Bakugo’s delinquent fashion is somewhat performative...

...there’s an element of truth to the underlying sentiment.

For your reference, the Best Jeanist Award is real-world a Japanese fashion award. Best Jeanist the Hero isn’t just a fashion designer on the side. He is the PINNACLE of style and appearance for celebrities. He puts a very fine point on rejecting every nonconformist thing about Bakugo and BAKUGO HATES IT. HE CANNOT ENDURE THIS. Bakugo is a boy who blows stuff up with his sweat. Intentions aside, HE CANNOT SURVIVE IN THIS BOX PEOPLE WANT TO PUT HIM INTO. NOT BY FORCE. NOT LIKE THIS.

But BJ does manage to put him in a nice set of designer jeans that actually sit at Bakugo’s waistline for a chapter, so there’s that, too.

Delinquent characters in shonen are just classic. Even when he isn’t in costume, Bakugo is trying as hard as he can to signal “I AM THE MAIN CHARACTER!’

So, despite being so focused on individuality, he’s still play-acting. Sort of. Kind of. It’s complicated.

The world doesn’t exist in a vacuum. I suggest you do your own research on Westernization in Japan. Just know that, for our discussion, there’s a lot of internalized baggage that isn’t explicitly stated here.

Birdbox (Harpy Narancia x afab reader

For the final Halloween fic and the winner of the poll, we have Harpy Narancia!! It’s a perfect monster for him, but one I’d never even considered writing before this. I hope everyone enjoyed their holiday and these fics, and thank you so much for participating!

"BRUUUNNNOOOOOOOOOOOO!"

A loud screech echoed through the Passione base, easily identified as belonging to Narancia Ghirga. You were reading a novel in the living room while Bruno worked on something in the kitchen, keeping a large pot from boiling over. When you heard Narancia scream, your eyes met his.

"Narancia?" Bruno called. "What's wrong?"

The young man sprinted, quick footsteps could be heard dashing down the hall. He blew past you in a flurry of orange and tan, headed straight for the kitchen. A second pair of footsteps, slower than his, followed.

"LOOK AT WHAT FUGO DID TO ME"

Looking at him from the back, had it not been for his tuft of messy black hair, you might not have recognized him. Everything from his neck to his knees was covered in tan-orange feathers, some with small dark spots and others with snowy white tips. His outstretched arms were covered by wings. From the knees down his legs were bony and... scaly, almost, with three toes each and sharp spurs on the back.

Fugo emerged from the hallway, panting. "I CAN EXPLAIN! I CAN EXPLAIN, HE ASKED FOR THIS!"

“I ASKED FOR WINGS, YOU TURNED ME INTO A WHOLE-ASS BIRD!”

Bruno stepped between the two boys, knowing a fight when he saw one, and stopping it early. “Let’s all take a breath,” he said calmly, looking at both the young men to make sure they were breathing with him. “Okay, Fugo, you first, would you like to explain what happened to Narancia?”

Fugo, the alchemist-in-training, huffed. “Bird-brain over there begged me to give him wings. I warned him that messing with humans and bodies and shit is pretty advanced work, but he persisted, and I gave in. The spell… He was just supposed to get the wings, but…”

Narancia’s tail feathers flicked in annoyance. “AND NOW I’M A FUCKING HARPY! LOOK AT ME!” The wings had replaced his arms, though he had hand-like claws on the ends of them. Bruno sighed, nodding his head. “I… don’t know if I’ll be able to fix this.”

“Abbacchio is a witch, right?” Narancia chimed up hopefully, with a mumbled “warlock” added by Fugo. “He can change me back!” Bruno seemed unsure, though. “I don’t know if he knows anything about…. This, but, I’ll give him a call. He’ll be out on a mission for the next few days, so I’ll see if he can help by phone. Fugo, would you mind seeing if any of your books have suggestions or resources or… anything?”

Fugo grumbled, starting back to his room. Narancia had turned to you, snuggling up next to you on the couch. It was clear he was scared, but you did your best to calm him, petting his hair and smoothing the feathers down his back. They were surprisingly soft, especially up towards his neck, where the baby feathers looked like the down stuffing from a pillow. “In the meantime, Narancia… try not to get into any trouble.” Bruno shook his head. “I don’t know if we would take you to a hospital or to a vet.”

The click-clack of Narancia’s talons as he paced across your bedroom floor was an odd sound, filling the otherwise silent room. He would stretch his impressive wingspan, letting all his feathers show beautifully, before pulling his wings in tight to his body and ruffling up, like a bird in the winter chill.

“Maybe a shower would help clear my head,” he said, thinking out loud. “But…. I don’t….”

“The feathers,” you spoke his thoughts for him.

“Do you think I can shampoo them, or what? What about that one part of my back I can’t reach?”

“How about I shower with you?” you offered, earning a smile from Narancia. It was nice, a little sense of intimacy and normalcy, Narancia was comforted by your presence. Even through, well, whatever this was, you were by his side. In the bathroom Narancia stripped down while you ran a hot shower for you both, but you froze when you heard him gasp.

“Nara?”

Narancia’s shout rang throughout the entire base.

“FUGO GAVE ME A PUSSY!”

The silence that followed was deafening. Sure enough, his dick was still there, but his balls had been replaced by a slit and some folds, covered in a tuft of soft feathers. It… it looked like a pussy. A muffled shout came back from across the base, “It’s called a cloaca! Research it!”

It had been a few nights since the Feather Incident, and Fugo was no closer to finding a way to reverse Narancia’s body back to normal. Giorno had called in some foundation his extended family was connected with, who allegedly had access “to like, all knowledge, they’ll find something”, but who knew how long that could take. For now, Narancia was snuggled in your arms, unable to quiet his mind down enough to fall asleep. The change in his body was just too weird. It didn’t feel wrong, exactly, but it wasn’t right either. His nervous shifting caused you to stir from your rest, opening your eyes, gazing at him softly. “Can’t sleep?”

Narancia shook his head. “Brain won’t shut up. Freaked out that Mista might call me birdbrain for the rest of my life.” You chuckled in reply, pulling him up a little closer so you could reach him for a soft, sleepy kiss. You could feel your boyfriend relaxing, practically melting in your arms. “Little better?” you asked, once you had both pulled away for a breath.

“A little,” Narancia replied, before a little grin crossed his features. “But I think I could go for a little more.”

Soft kisses and gentle caresses quickly grew into bold makeouts and full-on groping. Navigating around Narancia’s new wings and tail was a bit of a challenge, and he had to touch carefully so as not to scratch you with his claws. At least you didn’t have to worry about his hawk feet-- Fugo had whipped up a knitted pair of thick, wooly socks, shaped perfectly for talons. “Consider them apology socks,” he had grumbled.

Narancia pulled away from your kiss, a little breathless and cheeks flushed pink. You could feel the tent in his sweatpants, but… something was on his mind, you could tell.

“Question,” he asked. “You know more about, well, these kinds of parts than I do.”

“I know nothing of cloacas, but go on.”

“Right, but. Uh. Does it always feel this weird and sticky when you’re horny? I want to be horny, not sticky.”

You let out a sharp peal of laughter. “Yes, I mean. I don’t know if ‘sticky’ would be my first word to describe it, but yeah, sticky works. It doesn’t sound as hot though.”

“You put up with so much for me,” he whispered lovingly, before you two fell into a shared fit of giggles.

“It’s worth it, I promise,” you replied, leaning in to kiss him. “In fact…. I think I might be able to show you.”

Narancia watched carefully as you rummaged through your nightstand drawer, producing a black bag with a golden tie. A present, one Narancia had gotten for you a year or two back. Big but not too thick, long but not painfully so, it was your favorite vibrator.

“Ok, bef--”

“I want to try it!”

You were silent. Here you were, about to go on a spiel about how Narancia didn’t have to do it if he didn’t want to. “When am I gonna get the chance for something like this again?”

He had a point, it wasn’t like he would have a cloaca for much longer. Hopefully. It looked like a vagina to you, but with his penis where a clit would be. I didn’t think it was possible to love Jean more than I already did but this chapter proved me wrong. I was so glad he finally learned what happened to Marco and at least got that closure.

Before they can reach Eren, the Alliance needs to first get past the Jaegerist. Only 12% of respondents expect this to be easy. The vast majority (63.8%) are anticipating an Alliance win but at the cost of major character deaths. On the other end of the spectrum, close to 20% expect the Alliance to be defeated but think they will reach Eren another way. The tiniest percent (4.1%) think that the Jaegerists will win this battle and Eren will be successful.

I hope isayama wont nerf the alliance so hard in the upcoming battle. and pls no stupid death. make it glorious.

I also kind of hope that now that they've figured out the trick to stop fighting and finding diplomatic ways that they don't directly resort to violence but at least try to find a way to talk with the Jaegerists. If they don't try to talk and find a way around then the lessons learned won't have meant a thing. I'm super happy with the direction of the story

Meh this arc has really a lot of problems with the characters, basically i dont care for anyone at all except eren and reiner, and that's a major flaw.

[Yelena] pointed everyones hypocrisy out that they aren't just victims who did nothing wrong. Everyone, except of Falco, has cover they hands with blood. It's not just ""muh Marley, muh Eldia or muh Yelena"". Everyone have started sins and are to blame for something. It was a really necessary wake up call, not only for the characters, but for this fandom as well. No matter if this was her intention to create more drama in the group or make them realize that they and not different from each other. GREAT MOMENT and Yelena absolutely slaying 👑

Since the end of the second world war, japan was reconstructed almost entirely by young people, so probably this story will end showing that with some analogy. making that previous statement, i think it won’t be eren, or any of the older characters, since they lived and did the horrors they did and must somehow pay for it(and specially the PTSD most would have, so they’ll be probably incapacitated in some way), i think it will be Gabi, or maybe Falco or someone else, because they are just lost, Gabi changed her mind and personality so well(progress, developed it), so that’s why i think it would or maybe even should be her. am i expecting too much from Isayama?

I believe in the Time-Loop still. But ya, hope Final Battle is with Levi and Eren teaming up. (Also Mikasa a bit before...)

Prompt: Could you please do a Justin Foley imagine where his sister got kicked out after he left so she’s been staying with Bryce because she doesn’t know about the tapes and he’s always been there for her and Justin and in the school fight scene, Bryce makes a comment about her which causes Justin to lose it? X

A/N: And the winner of the poll is Scott Reed!! Thank you to all who participated and I hope you even the series :) At this point, i’m not sure how long it’ll be because I don’t really know where i’m gonna take it lol. But, I can’t see more than like ten parts.

Please don’t plagiarize my work!

In hindsight, you were glad you left.

Maybe running from your feelings hadn’t been the best choice. Maybe, just confronting them would’ve been easier. But seeing Justin, after all this time, just there, standing there like he hasn’t been missing for months... it left you with a sick feeling. One you weren’t ready to face.

And, if you had stayed, you knew now you would’ve been caught between crossfires. Why your brother hated Bryce so much, you’ll never understand. The two had once been brothers, closer than possibly even you and Justin. It was why you came to Bryce in the first place, because your brother had trusted him so much. Even if, towards the end, things had seemed odd between the two, you thought it would always be that way.

But given the rumors floating around the hall, talk of some big fight right here in the middle of the school, Bryce and Justin being the ones to start it; you figured that was no longer the case.

Bryce had told you not to listen to the gossip that seemed to spread around the school like a plague. That it was all just lies and you were better off just sticking close to him, and ignoring what anybody else had to say. But this was near damn impossible to ignore, and for once, nobody seemed afraid to whisper it around you. It was opposite of what usually happened when you walked down the halls and everyone, other than Bryce’s own friends, ignored you. Practically shunned you.

Even now you still didn’t understand why.

If you’d been there for that fight, you would’ve had to choose between your brother and Bryce. And in this moment, you weren’t sure who you’d choose.

“Hey, Y/N.”

Turning, brows furrowing, you blink at the sight of Bryce rushing towards you, a familiar looking man following behind him. Then, it clicked; his lawyer. Something must be happening with the trial.

Once Bryce reaches you, he leans in closer, not necessarily trying to keep the conversation from the ears of his lawyer but to give the both of you just a little bit of privacy. You let him do so, only half-consciously noticing the way his hand falls on your wrist, glancing around the both of you once before letting his eyes meet yours own once more. “I won’t be able to drive you home, Monty will.”

You ignore his words, eyes falling on his lawyer; “is something happening with the trial?”

“Yeah,” Bryce nods nonchalantly, “but it’s fine. I’ll see you when I--”

Then, you cut him off, voice small. “Maybe I could come with you?”

There’s a moment of pause, Bryce just blinking at you. You knew it was a stupid question to ask, given that Bryce had never let you come to one of the trail meetings before. It was worth the shot, though, you figured. Though, given the expression that crosses his features, you already know the answer before he even says it. “Y/N, I think it’s best you just go home.”

You decide to fight it, even just a little. “Why?” You question, brows furrowing. “I mean, I still don’t even know what the trials are about. Not a lot anyway. Noticing the shift in his expression, you add, quickly; “and i’d like to be there to support you.”

“Justin’ll be there.”

You pause, confused; “has he been before?”

Bryce grimaces then, “yeah. When he first came back.”

You then take a step back, pulling your hand from his as your lips part; “he’s been back for a while? ...And you never told me?”

Bryce briefly glances at his lawyer, “you weren’t ready.”

Scoffing, you cross your arms over your chest. “I--”

“Bryce,” his lawyer calls, interrupting the both of you. One glance at him and you can tell he’s irritated by having to wait. “We should really get going. The trial starts in just a half hour.”

Glancing back at you, Bryce frowns; “wait for Monty, okay? He’ll drive you home.”

You give him a short nod, not bothering to put anymore effort in your response. Then, with one last glance your way, Bryce walks off, leaving you there in the hallway. You hesitate, staying rooted in your spot, mind wandering. How could it not? Not only was your brother back from being missing for like six months, it turns out he’s been back for longer then you’d thought and you’d had no idea. Not to mention, there’s something suspicious about Bryce’s case that’s been bothering you for a while.

But you won’t push it because you don’t want to be homeless. And, besides, you don’t want to anger Bryce. Ever.

The sound of a door opening pulls you from your thoughts. You blink, raising your chin only to see Clay Jensen, Tony Padilla and... Justin Foley exit the classroom just a little to your right. The same class Bryce had left a little while ago. Detention’s class.

They, more specifically Justin, notice you right away.

There’s a moment of still silence, no one moves, but Clay seems eager to rush off; in the direction Bryce had gone actually. Yet, he seems to know enough not to rush Justin as your brother simply just stares back at you, lips parted, eyes wide, uncertainty in his gaze. Your jaw clenches instinctively, trying to keep yourself composed, not to let him see how actually hurt you were by what he’d done. Besides, he probably could guess it all on his own anyways.

Then, with one brief glance back at Clay and Tony, Justin takes a step towards you. “Y/N--”

You step back from him, shaking your head. “Don’t.” Is all you can manage, voice pitching in distress as you bow your head, not willing to let yourself meet his gaze. You just had so much pent up anger and rage inside of you, towards Justin and you weren’t sure what you’d do if he didn’t walk away now.

Who was he to stand there, looking all victimized, without some sort of explanation? An explanation as to why he left you, there.

“Y/N,” Justin calls again, voice more pleading. He holds his hands out before him, reaching for you. “Y/N, just listen to me--”

“I don’t want to hear it.” You swallow thickly, gathering all the courage you have to raise your chin and meet your brother’s gaze head-on, unwavering. You square your shoulders, clenching your jaw. “I just don’t.”

“I-I can explain,” Justin rushes, desperate for you to understand. “I’ll ex-explain everything, from the beginning. But... But, you have to get out of that house.”

It’s then you pause, stunned. “Excuse me?”

“You can’t be in there. You can’t... I mean, Bryce? It’s not safe for you there, Y/N--”

“Just, just shut up!” You interrupt, voice harsh. Narrowing your eyes, you shake your head at Justin. “I don’t want to hear it,” you say simply, shoulders falling with disbelief. “I don’t want to hear anything. Especially not from the brother who abandoned me.” Never letting your eyes leave his own, you let out a breath of relief when you hear the door open again and Monty and a few other of Bryce’s friends step out. “Now, if you excuse me, i’ll be going now.”

You glare at Justin one final time before shoving past him, not bothering to glance at either Clay or Tony on the way and instead head straight for Monty. Along the way, you catch brief sight of Scott Reed, another one of Bryce’s friends, leaving the detention room.

Briefly your eyes meet, you offer a small smile. He returns the same to you.

Monty’s attention turns to you as you fall next to him, “hey.”

“Hey,” Monty nods simply, eyes wandering on Justin for a moment before turning to you, “ready to go?”

Clenching your jaw, you nod.

Swallowing thickly, you raise your head as Bryce steps into your room. Or really, it was the guest bedroom that Bryce and his mother had been nice enough to let you occupy for the last few months. Anything you really had, had been from Bryce.

“How was the trial?”

“Good,” Bryce nods, shrugging nonchalantly as he takes a sip of the drink already poured in his hand. “Chloe was testifying against me.”

“About?”

Taking a seat next to you on your bed, arms brushing against one anothers momentarily, Bryce shrugs off your question; “doesn’t matter.” He says simply, turning to meet your gaze. You can tell by his hazy gaze and heavy-lidded stare, he’s already a little drunk. Tipsy for sure.

You feel your heart sink; that can only mean one thing.

You set down your homework in front of you, leaning on your left arm, the one closest to Bryce and sigh. “It must though,” you say softly, keeping your gaze downwards, hesitant, unsure. “I mean, she is your girlfriend after all. Testifying against you, that must hurt.” Testifying against him for what, you didn’t know. You wish you did.

Bryce moves to take another sip of his drink; “in the end she stayed loyal to me, that’s all that matters.”

Your shoulders fall at another failed attempt at trying to figure out just a little bit more about this case. Briefly, your eyes fall to your cellphone laid on your night-table. Your cellphone that had a tab open of those tapes Hannah Baker had left behind that had been posted online. Your cellphone that had been tempting you for days now.

You were just scared of what you’d find out and what Bryce would do if he found out you had.

“Hey,” Bryce mumbles, voice low. You feel the tip of his fingers fall under your chin, guiding your gaze towards his own as he leans forward. For a moment, your eyes flicker to his lips before returning to his eyes, swallowing thickly. “You okay?”

“Just a long day,” you whisper, already knowing he knew what you meant by that without having to explain it. It was pretty obvious.

Bryce, however, smirks slightly at your words, leaning towards you as his hand now moves lower. He sets his hand on your bare thigh, only a pair of pajama shorts on, rubbing softly at the skin as his lips become only inches apart from your own. He reeks of whiskey, but your hands are frozen by your side, un-moving. “I think I might know how to cheer you up.”

His lips are on yours in the next second, without warning. You freeze, but only briefly as this isn’t something you’re exactly unaccustomed to. By now, it was only like routine.

Chloe testified against me today.

Freezing, you set your hand against Bryce’s chest, pushing him back. “But, Chloe...”

“It’s fine,” Bryce brushes off, moving his hand to your waist and tugging you forward. It’s quite harsh, you stumbling over yourself before Bryce sets either of his hands on your hips and helps guide you where he wants you. Before you know it, you find yourself straddling his lap, hands held out before yourself unsure as Bryce presses kiss against the length of your neck. Between kisses he manages to mumble; “it’s never been a problem before,” and then, he pulls back, grinning up at you. “Besides, you owe me remember?”

I didn’t know where else to go...

You can stay for as long as you need, Y/N.

We’ll find someway for you to repay the favor.

You didn’t want to be homeless.

With a simple nod, you let Bryce pull your shirt over your head, leaving you in just your shorts and a sports bra. You don’t fight him as he leans forward, gripping your hips hard, sucking aggressively against your neck, a small moan leaving your lips as he does so.

And even though you don’t fight him, even though your body responds to him, you feel disgusting. Shameful.

Those tapes... the trial... Bryce’s secrecy...

But you don’t want to be homeless.

Just as Bryce moves to take off your bra, the sound of distant voices interrupts the silence. It’s enough to catch Bryce’s attention, as well as yours, given that it doesn’t just sound like someone passing by. The voices don’t fade, if anything, they grow closer, and both of your heads snap towards the window.

Suddenly, Bryce is pushing you off of him, rushing towards the window.

“Who is it?” You question, moving to pull on your shirt again.

Bryce doesn’t answer, instead, he waits a moment, just peeking through his blinds before turning without a word and walking out of the room. Your eyes follow his figure, greatly confused, before fixing your shirt, pushing yourself up to your feet and moving towards the window.

Your eyes widen when you see what Bryce had.

“Justin?”

Oh yeah since the Playoff Committee Rankings don’t come out until Tuesday I’m just gonna have to keep using the AP Poll. Oh well, at least it’s consistent.

The Top Ten Games of the Week

10. #4 Clemson 9-0 (6-0) at NC State 4-4 (1-3)

Ok they aren’t all winners. Clemson is probably gonna grind NC State into powder. The Wolfpack is really falling off.

9. USC 5-4 (4-2) at Arizona State 5-3 (2-3)

USC can claim the South Division if Utah slips up in these final weeks, so the Trojans have to navigate their own way through the end of the season to do so.

8. Missouri 5-3 (2-2) at #6 Georgia 7-1 (4-1)

This one was looking a bit more interesting a few weeks ago. Missouri was on fire until inexplicably falling off a cliff in the past two games. Georgia has now reclaimed momentum in the SEC East following their win in Jacksonville.

7. #20 Kansas State 6-2 (3-2) at Texas 5-3 (3-2)

The Big 12 race is definitely getting more interesting now that Oklahoma has been taken down a peg. Kansas State and Texas are trying to come from behind and force their way into the conference championship game. The loser here will probably fall too far behind the pace, but the winner will stay alive for one more week.

6. #22 Wake Forest 7-1 (3-1) at Virginia Tech 5-3 (2-2)

Wake Forest is having their best season since 2006 and the Demon Deacons are again in the hunt to make the Orange Bowl (under slightly different circumstances). Wake isn’t quite a world beater, the Deacs have scraped by a number of times and will need to do so one or two more times to really ensure themselves that trip to Miami.

5. Iowa State 5-3 (3-2) at #9 Oklahoma 7-1 (4-1)

I shouldn’t have to remind anybody what happened the last time that Iowa State visited Norman. The Cyclones are trying to repeat their upset against Oklahoma and fully push the Big 12 race into chaos.

4. #11 Baylor 8-0 (5-0) at TCU 4-4 (2-3)

It’s the 115th playing of the Revivalry and the stakes are high. TCU is likely too far behind in the Big 12 race to make the conference championship game, but the Horned Frogs can play spoiler to their detested rival. Baylor is undefeated, but that has come with considerable luck. The Bears have won several games by slim margins and TCU is gunning to knock them off what some see as an undeserved prominence.

3. #18 Iowa 6-2 (3-2) at #16 Wisconsin 6-2 (3-2)

It’s the 93rd playing of the Iowa-Wisconsin rivalry. For most of the year these two were the favorites to win the Big Ten West, now Minnesota has thrown their hat in the mix. The winner here still stands a good chance to beat the Gophers and win the division, but the loser will basically be eliminated.

2. #5 Penn State 8-0 (5-0) at #13 Minnesota 8-0 (5-0)

It’s a battle of undefeateds in the Big Ten. As far as anybody can tell, Penn State is a true Playoff contender, whereas Minnesota is lucky to not have a couple of losses. If the Gophers want to prove that they belong, here is the golden opportunity.

1. #1 LSU 8-0 (4-0) at #2 Alabama 8-0 (5-0)

Well duh. LSU and Alabama enter the game as the #1 and #2 ranked teams in the country, echoing the famed 2011 matchup which previewed their rematch in the BCS Championship Game. I’m not sure that the Committee will put them at #1 and #2, but we’ll see what happens. The loser has a pretty good chance to go 11-1 and make the Playoff, so we could see another rematch in the Playoff.

5 G5 Games of the Week

This is a pretty MW heavy G5 list, but that’s what happens when the AAC has bad games.

5. UAB 6-2 (3-1) at Southern Miss 5-3 (3-1)

UAB, Southern Miss, and Louisiana Tech are making the C-USA West race pretty interesting even if the conference as a whole is pretty boring.

4. Nevada 5-4 (2-3) at #24 San Diego State 7-1 (4-1)

San Diego State has a clear lead in the MWC West race, but the Aztecs still have to face all three teams competing to take the crown away from them, starting with Nevada.

3. Miami OH 4-4 (3-1) at Ohio 4-4 (3-1)

The 96th Battle of the Bricks will probably decide the MAC East, if you care.

2. Utah State 4-3 (3-1) at Fresno State 4-4 (2-2)

Utah State and Fresno State were two of the standout G5 teams last season. They’ve both lost talent and have taken a step back, but they’re also both still in their respective division races. The loser here will probably be eliminated from competition, while the winner keeps their hopes alive.

1. Wyoming 6-2 (3-1) at #21 Boise State 7-1 (4-0)

The Mountain Division still has four teams in a dogfight, including the front-runner Boise State. Wyoming has played their hard-nosed brand of football and can supplant the Broncos with a road win.

FCS Games of the Week

4. #23 New Hampshire 5-3 (4-1) at #2 James Madison 8-1 (5-0)

The winner here should get the CAA’s auto-bid to the Playoff as the conference champion. The loser will still make the Playoff in all likelihood.

3. #22 North Dakota 5-3 at #3 Weber State 7-2 (5-0)

North Dakota is trying to crash the FCS Playoff as a football independent, but they’ll have to beat Weber State to have a good chance at making the field. The Wildcats are a standout team of the FCS this year, having still not lost to an FCS foe.

2. #11 Illinois State 6-3 (3-2) at #4 South Dakota State 7-2 (4-1)

The MVFC always provides at least one good game a week.

1. #10 Princeton 7-0 (4-0) vs #13 Dartmouth 7-0 (4-0) in New York, NY

I don’t know how they planned this out but the Ivy League’s champion is likely going to be decided at Yankee Stadium when undefeated Princeton and Dartmouth face off.

Pumpkin Patch part 2

Pairing: Tom Holland x Best Friend!Reader

Part 1

a/n: so i wasnt going to do a part 2, but i realized my first one shot kinda left it on a cliff hanger soo..here we are!

Getting back to Tom’s flat, you gently nudge Harrison awake.

“Wake up sleeping beauty, we’re back,” you whisper.

His eyelashes flutter awake and he stretches his arms.

“That was a bloody good nap,” he yawns.

“I’m glad you had a good rest,” you reply wittily.

The three of you walk into Tom’s apartment, each of you carrying your medium sized pumpkins.

You set them down on the kitchen table and rub your hands on your jeans.

“Oh! My big and small pumpkins!” you gasp, going back to the car to get them.

“She’s not going to be able to carry that big one back in here,” Tom recalls, smiling towards the front door.

Harrison notices his stare and smirks.

“So why don’t you go help her out?” he offers.

Tom looks at him bewildered and quickly shakes his head.

“Tom, you’ve got to start making moves, you wanker,” Haz chuckles.

“M-make moves? For what?” Tom fidgets, crossing his arms.

“Don’t make me say it. Anyway, you’re losing daylight!” Has points towards the door, causing Tom to raise his arms in defeat and make his way to you.

When he got to the front door, he took in the sight of you trying to carry both pumpkins. You were leaning on your left leg for balance, carrying the bigger pumpkin and slowly reached for the small pumpkin.

He shuts his eyes and chuckles, shaking his head at your attempt to carry both.

“You know, you could have asked for help, love,” he says, jogging down his front steps.

You turn to see Tom and let out a sigh.

“Oh thank god, I’m starting to lose feeling on my left side. Here,” you place the bigger pumpkin into Tom’s arms.

Your fingers lightly graze his arms, and you quickly look away. Even though he was wearing a sweater, you don’t want to be distracted by his toned muscles and unbelievable strength.

You grab the small pumpkin and lead him back into the house.

“So, pumpkin carvings; want to do them tonight?” Harrison suggests.

“Absolutely!” you shout.

“Perfect, I’ll get the knives and cutters out. Tom…you can just hang around,” Harrison jokes.

“Are you implying I can’t handle myself with a knife?” Tom scoffs.

“Tom, you can barely handle a scissor,” you laugh.

“Anyway, let me go change into something less cute so I don’t get pumpkin guts all over me,” you say, running upstairs.

Harrison grabs the utensils needed and brings them to the living room table.

It’s better to cut the pumpkins there considering you’ll all have more room to maneuver.

Tom grabs towels and lays them on the floor and on the wooden table.

“So, what's your plan, hm?” Harrison asks after a few minutes of silence.

“Plan..?” Tom furrows his eyebrows.

“You know, how are you going to tell Y/N you fancy her?” his teeth graze his bottom lip.

“Oh, fuck off, Haz,” Tom swats the air and straightens out the towel on the table.

“Did you really not think I’d notice?” Harrison asks, offended.

“Well, no, I-I guess not. But I thought you liked her?” he questions.

“I did, but I don’t like her nearly as much as you do. You practically drool over her when she does the slightest thing as look your way!” Harrison adds.

Tom shakes his head, grinding his jaw.

“Don’t pretend like I’m not right,” Haz raises a brow.

But he was right, and Tom knew it. Tom loved absolutely everything you did, and found the smallest things adorable and admirable. You had him insanely whipped.

“And I think she might like you, too,” Harrison spoke up again, plopping on the couch.

“Right, and my name is Bob,” Tom rolls his eyes, sitting on the floor.

“It’s quite amazing how smart and talented you are, yet your common sense is lacking,” Haz laughed.

Tom frowned, shooting him a glare.

“Oh, take the piss once and a while mate. Even though it’s true,” he smirked.

Meanwhile, you were upstairs getting changed into something more comfy. You grabbed a black sweatshirt that might’ve belonged to Tom and snaked it over your head.

The scent lingered in your nose, and you knew right away that it was, in fact, Tom’s.

You smile at the thought, but quickly shake your head.

You can’t like Tom. He’s your absolute best friend, along with Haz. You all have a great thing going, you don’t want to ruin it with false feelings. Besides, he didn’t like you back anyway, right? Right?

There was that one time his hug lasted a little longer than it had; and that day you all went to breakfast and he insisted on sitting across from you. You could have sworn his eyes were burning a hole through you, yet you didn’t mind.

But all those feelings were pushed back when you were set into reality.

It simply wouldn’t be possible to date Tom, with him in the spotlights and expanding his career.

And you’d never hinder his growth with your selfish wants.

You slide on leggings and throw your knotty hair up in a bun. It was about time your hair got out of your face.

You jog down the stairs and see the boys in the living room.

“You ready to carve some pumpkins?!” you exclaim.

The boys yell “Yeah!” making you gush and smile wider than you had been.

You sit on the floor next to Tom, and he scoots over to give you more room.

“Shall we make this more interesting? Maybe hold a contest?” Harrison asks.

“I like it! But wait, there’s three of us here, who’s gonna judge?” you ask.

Harrison pulls out his phone and points it towards the table of pumpkins.

“Okay, so Tom, Y/N and I are about to carve pumpkins. It’s up to you, the viewers, to vote on who’s pumpkin turns out best!” He points towards each pumpkin and when he’s finished recording on what you assume was his instagram video, he begins to frantically tap on his screen. Tom pulls out his phone as well, situating himself in front of the pumpkins and turning his phone facing him.

“So, as you saw in Harrison’s story, or if you’re just viewing my story, Haz, Y/N and I are carving pumpkins. When we’re done I’m going to show them all and you get to pick your favorite!”

Just then, you feel your phone vibrate, signaling a tag from Harrison on his story, and Tom’s follows shortly after.

“I better win...wait, what does the winner get?” you ask.

“Bragging rights..” Harrison says, beginning to carve the top of the pumpkin and remove the seeds.

“No! It should be something legit,” you shake your head and start to ponder.

“Bragging rights AND this pumpkin seed,” Harrison holds up the insides of the pumpkin, causing you to frown.

“Agh, I hate this part of carving!” you yank the top of you pumpkin off and begin to carve inside to remove the slimy seeds.

“How mad would you be if I just put all of this in your hair?” Tom asked cheekily.

“Very mad, Thomas, don’t you dare!” you screech, sliding away from him.

Tom laughs and throws the remnants of the pumpkin into the garbage.

You all decided on carving a traditional face into the pumpkins, but the true test was who’s would look more professionally done.

There was a silence in the room, concentration at an all time high.

“There’s a reason why I’m an actor,” you hear Tom whisper sing-song-like, and you giggle.

He looks over at you and smiles, proud of himself for making you laugh.

He sneaks a glance at your pumpkin, and notices you are doing exceptionally well.

“Well damn, Y/N, when were you going to tell us you had a keen eye for art?” Tom asks.

“A true artist never reveals her secrets,” you wink at him.

Tom could feel a blush creeping up his neck, and quickly looks away from your stare.

Harrison watches your interaction unfold in front of him, baffled at the fact neither of you knew each other’s intentions.

It was about an hour later, and Haz and Tom decided to post pictures of all 3 of the pumpkins on their story, along with a poll.

In the end, your pumpkin came in first, Harrison’s came in second, and Tom’s came in third.

“Rubbish! You guys are supposed to be on my side!” Tom cried on his instagram story.

“Don’t be mad! Your fans recognize true talent!” you taunt, shooting the camera an award winning smile. Tom made a mental note to save that story to his camera roll later.

You and Harrison start cleaning up the mess while Tom adds his finishing touches to his instagram story.

“Your fans are going to go nuts over all the new content,” you note.

“Good, now you won’t be canceled, Tom!” Haz sneers.

“I don’t even know what that means,” Tom folded his arms, “so your words mean nothing.”

“Why don’t you two put the pumpkins on display out in the front? I’ll wash up everything,” Harrison insists.

“You sure, Haz?” you pout.

“Yeah, yeah. Go on,” he shoos you two away.

You look at Tom and shrug, grabbing your pumpkin.

Harrison nods your way to Tom, as if to say “now’s your chance.”

Tom follows you outside with his pumpkin.

The night sky is illuminated by the stars and waning moon, the cool breeze sending shivers down your spine.

“Is this my sweatshirt?” Tom asks, lightly pulling at the hoodie.

“Oh, yeah. You don’t mind, do you?” you ask hesitantly.

“No, course not. What’s mine is yours, darling,” Tom assures you.

You give a cheeky grin and sit on the steps. You pat the spot next to you and Tom complies.

You sigh, looking up at the stars.

Tom takes this time to take in your profile, his eyes darting from your eyes to your lips.

“You’re awfully quiet, Tommy,” you whisper, eyes still glued to the stars.

Tom clears his throat.

“Just taking in the view is all,” he admits.

You bring your attention to the brown eyed boy and smile.

“Y/N...there’s something you have to know,” Tom trails off.

“Oh my gosh, you’re pregnant?” you gasp teasingly.

“No, seriously,” Tom averts his eyes and turns his body to you.

“What’s up, Tom?” you ask, growing concerned.

“I haven’t been able to stop thinking about you for..quite a while, actually,” he laughs breathily, “and I feel like if I don’t tell you now, it’s just going to consume me. Your presence consumes me, Y/N.”

You blink at him, slowly letting out a breath you didn’t know you were holding. Did Tom just confess his feelings to me? You thought. The corners of your mouth quirk up.

“Well, that makes me feel better about feeling the same way, then,” you confess.

His face perks up at your words and you can see his boyish smile shine through the moon’s light.

“I was hoping you would say that,” he said.

You smile up at him and lean your head on his shoulder.

Harrison watches from the living room window and sighs out, “Fucking finally,” chuckling to himself.

Tom owed Harrison big time for this one.

What’s in the bathtub? (G.D.)

Summary: Y/N loses a bet with the twins and now has to be in one of their videos.

Warnings: cursing, fluff

Word count: 2523

„We're back!“ Ethan and Grayson stuck their faces right into the camera and slowly backed away to sit at the bathtub.

„And this week, we're doing something you guys voted for in our Twitter poll“, Grayson starts.

„That's right!“ Ethan continues and both of them finish off with „What's in the bathtub part 2!“

„For this video, we brought in a special guest“ Grayson says and motions for me to enter the frame and take my place between the guys.

„(Y/N)! Our best friend who just happened to volunteer for this task!“ Grayson exclaims squeezing my cheek and I turn to him with a serious look and roll my eyes.

„I lost a bet..“ I state to the camera and slap Grayson's hands away from my face and he lifts them up in defense.

„You sure did“ Ethan smirks.

„Guys, never ever bet with either of them on anything that involves food. They would eat rocks as long as you heat them up and slap some sauce on them!“ I exclaim lightly punching Ethan's arm as he gives Grayson a weird look.

„Okay, so, for those who didn't watch the first part, here's how this works.“ Ethan says, a little too loudly for the little space we crammed ourselves in.

„Each of us will take a turn in the bathtub with a blindfold on and the other two will each put something inside and you basically have to guess what it is.“ Ethan finishes off and Grayson takes over.

„The loser has to get a tattoo or a piercing, depending on what the other two decide. The location and type of the tattoo or the piercing will be determined by the winners and the LOSER CAN'T SAY ANYTHING ABOUT IT!“ Grayson yells into the camera approaching it slowly, emphasizing each word.

„So, I'm screwed!“ I say and Ethan laughs.

„Don't give up yet, (Y/N).“ Grayson says and lightly nudges me. I turn to him and kiss him on the cheek. Ethan gets up to check on the camera and lighting.

„You'll have to cut that out.“ I tell him and he lightly kisses my lips.

„This too, then...Can't have anyone knowing you're my girl, even tho' I wanna shout it from the rooftops.“ He whispers huskily and his voice alone sends shivers down my spine.

„I know“ I whisper against his lips sadly. I hated being kept a secret, but I understood. The fandom would split into three parts:

One: those who are truly happy for Gray,

Two: those who are sort of happy, but would love for us to break up,

Three: those who will send death threats and hate every day, not only over the internet.

Grayson fought his feelings for a long time, and when he finally gave in, we agreed to lay low. I'd be introduced as a best friend if we're ever seen in public together, which was unavoidable because we were inseparable. He protects me like this, I know. Just because I understand, doesn't mean it isn't hard. It's incredibly hard watching other girls flirt with him, jump into his arms and wrap their legs around his waist, like I do, on daily bases. I get it, he wants to be nice to his fans, but oh my God, sometimes I fear I might lose it and grab at their hair screaming GET OFF MY MAN.

„Stop being all cute and fluffy and let's get this thing going“ Ethan says taking his place once more.

„So, we agreed I'd go in first because I'm the oldest“ Ethan says and smirks.

„Stop smirking and put this on“ I give him a purple blindfold.

He sits inside and puts the blindfold on and Grayson leaves the room.

„Which one of you is going first?“ Ethan asks warily and now I smirk.

„Brother dearest“ I reply and he groans.

Grayson comes in, carrying a stuffed fox and puts it in between Ethan's legs.

„Don't move too much, you don't want to scare him“ Grayson adds and Ethan starts to freak out.

„I swear to God!! Grayson if there's a snake inside this tub now, I'll kill you!“ Ethan starts yelling, still not moving an inch. Suddenly, one of his legs brush up against the fox and he starts jumping up and I stifle a giggle.

„Is it furry?! It's furry! It's a racoon!“ He shouts taking off his blindfold as Grayson and I fall to the floor laughing.

„WHAT? A stuffed fox, this is why I freaked out?!“ Ethan looks at us in disbelief.

„When you, hahha, jumped up, haha“ I say through all the laughter.

„Your turn!“ Ethan pipes up and covers his eyes again.

I sneak out and grab a little white mouse I got from a friend and slowly set it on the edge of the bathtub.

„Do not move Ethan! I mean it“, I order him sternly and he gulps knowing I never bluff.

„What the hell is it?“ He says quietly and Grayson puts a hand over his mouth to stop himself from laughing.

„Grayson, you wouldn't let her kill me, right? You love your brother, don't you?“ He asks as he uses his hands to slowly tap around himself, stopping once he lightly taps the mouse on it’s head. He takes him in his hands and pets him, feeling his tail his lips curve into a smile.

„A mouse?“ He asks and I groan.

„Hey little buddy“ Ethan says tugging off his blindfold.

„His name is Barry.“ I tell him and he looks at me with a dumbfounded look.

„Now I understand why you and Grayson hit it off.“ Ethan says and Grayson gets into the tub.

„Be gentle with me“ Gray begs and I give him a mischievous smile.

„Oh, no...I see an evil glint in your eye and I don't like it!“ Grayson exclaims and Ethan throws the blindfold in his direction.

„Ethan, want to take your revenge first?“ I ask him and he runs out to get his things with a wicked smile.

„Here...I'd be quiet if I were you.“ Ethan says and puts in a big cactus.

„Why?“ Grayson asks, his voice just above a whisper.

„Guess“, Ethan replies.

Grayson uses Ethan's technique and his finger touches a non prickled part of the cactus and I wince slightly. He moves his hand a bit up and he pricks his finger on a spike.

„It just bit me!“ Grayson whisper-shouts and backs away to the far end of the tub.

„Gray just guess“ I tell him while Ethan laughs his ass off.

„It's a.. I don't know...A rabbit?“ Gray asks and takes his blindfold off while Ethan and I look at him like he's crazy.

„A bunny?! You're allergic, why would there be a bunny in the tub?!“ Ethan shouts and lets out a loud sigh.

„I don't know! It's the first thing that came to mind, okay?! I just wanted out!“ Grayson exclaims and tells me to get my secret object.

I bring in a heating pad and put it next to his arm.

„Okay, this one's fun!“ I say to the camera and watch Grays hands move around the tub, occasionally putting them over the edge just to brush up against me. He always has a need to be as close as possible to me...to touch me as often as possible, and no, I don't mean sexually, although that applies too. I asked him why and he said it was a form of reassurance that I was still there and not going anywhere, reassurance that I'm real and not a dream. It sounds cheesy, but his words would make anyone mushy. He respected me, trusted me, always made sure I was safe and protected and that I knew I was loved.

His hand grabbed the heating pad and he inspected it.

„Is it a heating pad?“ He asked and I confirmed. I knew he'd get it, after all he did buy it for me.

„Yeah!! So, Ethan and I are tied, but we still have (Y/N) and if things go right, she'll be getting some ink on her body later today!“ Grayson's excitement was clearly visible to us all and I sighed. I did want a tattoo, but I always chickened out. This was their way of giving me that final push.

Sitting in the tub I felt nervous and a bit nauseous. I knew they could get a little crazy with their surprises and it made me uneasy.

„Okay, gonna put this blindfold on and let these guys scar me for life now. Wish me luck“, I say to the camera.

Not seeing anything also freaked me out..darkness was not my friend.

„This is the real definition of fun“ I hear Grayson's voice on my left and instinctively turn towards it. The sound of his voice brought me comfort, but his words however did the opposite.

„Okay, try and guess this!“ Grayson shouts and I flinch at the sudden loud sound.

Slowly going over the surface of the tub I find a bunch of weirdly shaped, sort of squishy things. They were small, definitely not moving, thank you Grayson! I decide to go ahead and smell it and it helps me realize what it really is.

„Gummy worms?“ I say taking the blindfold off.

„Damn it!“ Both of them yell and I laugh popping one in my mouth.

„You'll have to do better, because if I get the next one, you'll both be losers and I will do my magic on your bods!“ I say playfully leaning back and put the blindfold back on.

I hear them engage in a whisper fight outside and there are a few weird sounds, but I can't really tell what's happening.

„Uh..Did you forget about me or something?!“ I question and they come in.

„Nope, just had a little dispute.“ Ethan says and Grayson huffs.

„Ooookay..“ I say quietly.

„Don't move a muscle“ Ethan says failing to stifle his laugh. It wasn't a normal laugh, no..It was more like the Joker type of laugh..you know? Evil villains type.

„Why not?“ I say through gritted teeth and freeze instantly. I should have know that Ethan was the one I should fear. Grayson loved me too much to put me in too much distress.

„Just don't move and let me move your hand for you.“ He adds and my blood runs cold.

„Grayson, what the fuck is in here with me?“ I ask in a deep, low voice.

„Not with you, on you!“ Ethan adds and that's when I feel my anxiety reach it's peak. I slowly take the blindfold off and I see a big, black, hairy tarantula on my chest.

With my eyes widened, breaths ragged and harsh, my hands trembled and covered my mouth to stop the screams that built up inside. Tension grew in my face and limbs, thoughts accelerating inside my head.

„Gray, Gray, Gray, Gray“ I repeat over and over hoping he'd get it and take the damn thing off me.

Thankfully, he does. He grabs it, swiftly putting it in it's container. I know he's scared of spiders too, which only shows how much he loves me.

I still shake, barely able to breathe, curling up as I feel his arms encircle me, pulling me into him. I inhale his scent and focus on the sound of his breathing. He's saying something, but the beating of my heart is still too loud inside my ears to be able to tell what. It took me a while, but I managed to come to. I could finally hear his soothing voice telling me he loves me and I'm safe, that things will be okay. I pull away and look up at this beautiful man and kiss his chin.

He brushes his nose against mine and leaves a small, gentle kiss on my lips and I smile, content to be in his arms.

„I'm really sorry, (Y/N).“ I hear Ethan say and I turn to look at him. Guilt was written on his face and I decide against torturing him any longer.

„I forgive you“ I say and he lets out a relieved sigh, running his fingers through his hair.

„But, this means we're all losers“ Grayson says and I turn to Ethan.

„Not exactly.”

„So here we are, at the tattoo parlor and Ethan is about to get a new tat as punishment for using (Y/N)'s fear of spiders against her!“ Grayson explains and points the camera towards me. I give him thumbs up and send an evil smile in Ethan's direction as he gulps.

„I want you to give him a tiny bird tattoo behind his ear!“ I tell the tattoo artist as I clap my hands in excitement.

„That shit will hurt like hell man, you sure you want to do this?“ He asks Ethan and he nods. Turning to the camera Ethan makes a crying face and takes his seat.

„Okay guys, so this is the end result! I played dirty and got punished, but now I have a new tattoo and it's kinda cool! Thanks (Y/N)!“ Ethan says showing the new ink and I wink at him.

„So, remember, fair play pays out!“ I add.

„We'll see you guys next Tuesday!“ Grayson says and together we finish with their signature: „PEACE!“

The video did well, however, the guys used a lot of the footage where Grayson and I were too chummy and the fans seemed to notice. There were a lot of comments about us and our possible relationship.

„What now?!“ I ask Gray exasperated.

„We tell them the truth...If you want..“ He trails off and I could tell he meant it.

„Okay.“ I tell him.

„Okay?“ He asks surprised.

„Yeah..I don't want to hide anymore. I want to be clingy in public, but most of all I want you to be clingy in public!“ I add with a smile and sit on his lap.

„Ethan?!“ Grayson calls his brother.

„What?“ Ethan barges in.

„Next week..we're doing one of those honest videos. I'm coming clean about us.“ Grayson tells his brother.

„Long overdue bro...But we need to figure out how to do it..We can do a challenge and the loser has to answer any question the winner asks. You lose, I ask about you two and you come clean?“

„Works for me,“ Grayson says, nuzzling into my neck as Ethan leaves.

„I'll finally be able to tell the world I love you.“ He whispers, leaving butterfly kisses on my neck.

„Just tell me you love me now and take me to bed.“ I tell him honestly and I see the hunger in his eyes.

„I love you.“ He says and picks me up, my legs wrapping around his waist. Kissing my forehead, my nose, each cheek and chin, he sets me down on the mattress and smiles.

„You missed!“ I whine and tangle my fingers in his shirt.

„I'm waiting for you to tell me you love me!“ He imitates my whine and I giggle.

„I love you!“ And with those words his lips finally crash onto mine and we give into a night filled with love.

Angel and her Stray Kids

Summary: When Skylar looks at her friend in complete shock, she never expected he’d ask her something so outrageously tempting she’d think to break her resolve. Right?

Word Count: 751. Sorry it’s not that long. But there will be more things popping up by the end of the weekend!

A/N: I asked the question and got the answer! Here’s the winner for the poll.

Staring at the pleading face in front of her, Skylar arched an eyebrow and crossed her arms over her chest. “You’re telling me, you want me to help you with a group. By being part of it?” She asked incredulously. Pouting lips and eyes half hidden behind hands clasped together faced her as the guy practically whined. “Pleeeeaaaaaseee. You’re the only one I trust enough. And you have the experience. I know you wanted to be a Solo artist but can you at least think about it?” He pleaded, falling to his knees with a pout still on his face. Skylar rolled her eyes and motioned him to stand up. He refused with a shake of his head. “Please!” He cried. She sighed and leaned against the wall while pinching the bridge of her nose. She could feel his eyes watching her as she continued thinking to herself. And when she finally had enough of the staring he stood up and grabbed her hands. “It’ll be fuuuuun. You can even have final say of the members.” He told her, hoping it might help a little. She snorted and shook her head while grinning like crazy. “Dude, you’re going too far. I was just messing with you. Yeah I’ll be part of the group! I’m lead vocal though.” She told him with a wink, laughing a little at the dumbfounded look on his face. He was about to say something but nothing came to mind for quite a few seconds until he finally gave her a half-glare and chased after her figure disappearing down the hallway. “How’d you get there so fast?! Come back here! I take back your nickname! It’s not Angel, it’s Devil!” He shouted while throwing a fist in the air. She stopped in front of JYP’s office and glanced back. “Come on Chan, let’s go tell the big man your decision.” She told him with a smile, holding her hand out for him to take. Bang Chan smiled at his first official member and grabbed her hand, following her into the office to tell JYP about what he wanted for the group, and how she would be part of it throughout he show and beyond.

To say the “big man” was annoyed was an understatement. He gave them a look as Chan explained what he wanted. “You want to make her, the solo artist I had high hopes for, be apart of your group? I don’t understand. How could you just decide that without asking me first?” He sighed out finally. Skylar bit her lip to keep silent while Chan tried explaining his vision for the group. “You have to admit, Sir, she fits the image quite well. She’s more of a stray rebel than half the kids picked for the show. I think she’s perfect. And she says she’ll willingly join as long as she’s a lead. If she’s a lead vocal then she can still have her solo moments to shine.” He suggested, watching JYP’s face for any change. JYP just looked to Skylar expectantly as if she would add in something to the conversation. “Sir, I just want to help make this group as good as it can be. If Chan thinks it’ll be a good idea for me to be part of the group, I have no issues with it. I trust him as much as he trusts me.” She told him simply. JYP sighed and nodded his head finally. He could never say no to her, especially when she’d give him the same look she had on her face in that moment. “Fine. Fine you both win.” He groaned out, giving into their idea. Skylar smiled a little and glanced at Chan, seeing the completely happy and almost euphoric look on his face as he grinned at their boss. She sighed quietly and put her fingernail up to her mouth, gently chewing on it in a nervous habit. She wondered how the boys would react when they realized she would be in their group. At that thought she tilted her head. “I think the boys are gonna have just as bad a reaction as Bossman.” She said to herself in English. Chan reached over and ruffled her hair. “It’ll be fin in the end. They love you.” He responded in his Australian accent. A glare was all he got in response to her hair being ruffled. “ Oi! Not cool mate.” She teased in his accent, scrunching her nose in amusement when he cringed.

Western Illinois, Year 20, 2026-2027

The Western Illinois Leathernecks begin Year 20 in our simulated dynasty in College Hoops 2K8.

Welcome back to our simulated dynasty with the Western Illinois Leathernecks in College Hoops 2K8. You can find a full explanation of this project + spoiler-free links to previous seasons here. Check out the introduction to this series from early April for full context. As a reminder, I simulate every game in this series (even the ones we watch on Twitch) and only handle the recruiting and coaching strategies.

Before we start Year 20 of Coach Rick’s tenure at Western Illinois, here’s a recap of everything that has happened last season:

Coming off three straight seasons that ended in the Elite Eight, the Leathernecks enter the new year with two returning starters and a team rated as a 97 overall. We went 6-6 against a difficult non-conference schedule before going undefeated in conference and again claiming the Summit League tournament championship. We enter the NCAA tournament as a No. 12 seed at 26-6 on the season.

We faced No. 5 seed Cal in the first round of the NCAA tournament. We lost, 90-87, when our potential game-tying three at the buzzer fell short. Read the tournament + offseason recap here.

We landed three new players on the recruiting trail.

Western Illinois, Year 20, 2026-2027

Here’s a look at our roster coming into Year 20:

It feels like a new era at Western Illinois with only two returning starters and just one senior on the roster. This squad might not have the experience we’d ideally prefer — reflected in the game’s ‘team unity’ ranking — but we do have size and shooting at every position with some emerging young depth on the bench. If nothing else, I’m hoping we can set the table for an even better season a year from now depending on few NBA draft decisions.

Let’s run through the starters real quick. As something new this year, click on the names for a link to their player cards with full ratings.

PG Tron Whaley, redshirt junior, 87 overall: Tron enters the starting lineup for the first time as a junior after being a key piece off the bench last season. He’s grown two inches to 6’4 since committing and now looks like a steady lead guard with size and shooting ability. Has a 86-rating in three-point shooting, which is tops on the team. Former No. 128 overall recruit with C+ potential.

SG Mathew Alloway, redshirt freshman, 82 overall: The former Mr. Basketball out of Minnesota becomes the rare freshman starter for the Leathernecks. The 6’6 shooting guard doesn’t have a signature skill yet, but looks solid across the board. Rated as a 94 in speed and a 78 in three-point shooting. Former No. 31 overall recruit with B- potential.

SF Wilky Henry, redshirt senior, 93 overall: Henry needs to be a superstar this year for this team to play up to its potential. I think he can get there. Moving back to his natural position of small forward after starting at shooting guard last season, Henry is a massive 6’8, 242 pound wing who can shoot from three, rise above the rim for monster dunks, and handle the ball like a guard. We need him to be our go-to scorer on the perimeter. Former No. 80 overall recruit with C+ potential.

PF Allan Cunningham, redshirt junior, 89 overall: Cunningham is already on his way to becoming one of the most beloved players in program history. A standout in NCAA tournament games since his freshman season, ‘Ham’ is preposterously large (6’11, 289 pounds) with a refined skill set that includes legitimate three-point range. He’s a skilled inside scorer and rebounder while having an A grade in three-point shooting and an A- grade in speed. He should be a stud this year. Former No. 67 recruit with C+ potential. Projected first round pick.

C Pat Giddens, redshirt junior, 91 overall: Giddens is tied for the best potential rating in program history, per reader Evan’s Leathernecks Recruiting Database. This is his big chance to translate that potential into production on the court. Giddens moves into the starting lineup after being sixth man last season. He’s a bit short for a center at 6’9. but he’s impossibly strong at 290 pounds. Him and Ham up front is a supersized front court we’re hoping will be a great advantage for us all season. Former No. 115 overall recruit. Projected lottery pick.

There was some thought given to starting Henry at shooting guard again (where he goes down one point) to get sophomore Wilbur Ager in the starting lineup, but we prefer putting Henry at his best position, throwing Alloway into the fire, and letting Ager be one of the the better bench players in the country.

We’re going with a nine-man rotation this season: Ager and freshman center Kevin Brazzle will each get about 15 minutes per game, while freshman point guard Jamie Burke and freshman power forward LF Neal each get about 10 minutes per game. That means junior guard Vitor Andrisevic (79 overall) is out of the rotation. He will go down as the biggest recruiting bust in program history.

We also welcome three new incoming recruits to the team. All of them will redshirt.

PG Koko Reeves out of San Antonio, No. 52 overall recruit: 73 overall, C potential. Reeves is the smallest recruit we’ve ever had, but he’s already grown an inch to 5’11 since committing. His C potential grade is disappointing, but he looks like an absolutely elite shooter, already rated as an 82 from three-point range.

SF Jitim Dupre out of Chicago, No. 91 overall recruit: 76 overall, C+ potential. Dupre is a tall, lanky wing at 6’9. He’s a bit disappointing as a three-point shooter with a 72 rating.

C Artie Snipes out of Riverside, No. 177 overall recruit (No. 10 center): 75 overall, B+ potential. The 6’11 center is the heaviest recruit we’ve ever had at 282 pounds. Looks like he’s going to be another outstanding big man for the Leathernecks.

Recruiting

We only have one scholarship to recruit for this year. I want to hit the JUCO market to find a five-star shooting guard or power forward to join timeline of last year’s three-man class. I use my first two visits on these players:

6’2 shooting guard Edwin Wolfe out of Federal Way, WA

6’4 shooting guard V.J. Roberts out of Chicago

JUCO recruits aren’t numerically ranked and don’t have AAU stats, but Wolfe is the top shooting guard among JUCO players when the class is sorted by recruiting stars, so we offer him the scholarship.

Also we have to create a player for the winner of last season’s bracket contest, Isaac Springer. I asked Isaac to give me some details the player he wanted to create, and this is what he hit me with:

I actually had a small idea if I won: would it be possible to create Jon Bois instead? I’m not a huge college basketball fan (or much of a basketball fan in general), so I don’t really know anything about stats or positions or what’s good. But Jon is my favorite content creator online, and he’s what’s helped me find SB Nation and all of the great work that everyone is doing there. I think it’d be fun to introduce him into the Leathernecks universe.

Say no more, my man. Jon Bois, five-star shooting out of Louisville, is officially in the Leathernecks Universe. We’ll follow Jon’s recruitment and his career wherever he ends up. As a reminder, we don’t go after created players at Western Illinois to preserve the integrity of the game.

Finally, it’s time to begin the season. We start the year unranked in the polls and rated as a 96 overall. Let’s go!

First game: @ Illinois

I’ve had this game circled on my calendar since the Illini shocked us in the opener last season. We run this state, and we’ve proven it multiple times in the last decade. It’s time to issue the Illini an emphatic reminder of that.

Loss, 83-62. Oh my god. The Illini smacked us from the opening tip-off and there was nothing we could do to recover. That is not how we wanted to start the season. Ager had a good game and pretty much everyone else struggled.

Next up we have Georgetown. The Hoyas are rated as a 91 overall.

Win, 76-50. There we go. Look at Cunningham ball out with 23 points and six rebounds on 3-of-4 shooting from three-point range. That’s why this man is an icon. Read our beat writer Matthew Morrow on what makes Cunningham so special. I’m gonna need my guards to do better than shoot 1-of-13 from the floor, but thankfully it’s a long season and they should improve along the way.

As I sim to the next week, I noticed that my backup option on the recruiting trail V.J. Roberts really likes us. If he commits by the early signing period, we’d get a coaching point for landing our first five-star recruit in season. I decide to pull the scholarship from Wolfe and give it to Roberts. If he doesn’t accept it, I will probably re-offer Wolfe, assuming he doesn’t hate me now.

Next game is against Louisville, who enters at No. 1 in the polls. We decided to watch this game on the Twitch stream. The Cards enter at a 96 overall. The game will begin when you press play:

Loss, 111-105. Damn, we almost had them. I feel a lot better about my team after watching them go toe-to-toe with No. 1 in the country on the road. My freshman shooting guard Mathew Alloway looked terrific offensively, finishing with 24 points on 1-of-18 shooting. He also picked up a nickname on the Twitch stream: All Day. Let’s just decide not to talk about his defense. Cunningham was again phenomenal, Wilky Henry was solid, and we found a new breakout player in backup center Kevin Brazzle. He’s huge at 7’1 and was immediately more effective than our starter Giddens, who got into early foul trouble.

Our defense was just terrible all around. Louisville shot 50 percent from the field and 43 percent from three. They also forced us into 18 turnovers with their press. We’re going to need to close-out on shooters and take care of the ball if we want to make a deep run.

As the early signing period begins, we have a rematch with Cal, who knocked us out of the NCAA tournament in the first round last year. I’ll take one hot serving of revenge, please.

Win, 91-63. Eat it, Bears. Cunningham carried us like always with 20 points, Henry puts up a 9-9-9 line in a game where he shoots 2-for-11, Tron goes 5-for-5 from deep to score 18 points, which I believe is a career-high. Hell yeah. We’re 2-2- on the year.

We have our two early conference games on the final week of the early signing period. We blowout both UMKC and IUPUI to make us 4-2 on the year. Unfortunately, we don’t land the commitment we were looking for from Roberts. Since Wolfe appears to be the higher rated prospect and still doesn’t have any other suitors, we pull the scholarship from Roberts and re-offer Wolfe.

In other news, Jon Bois commits to Dayton!

Next up we have Stanford. The Cardinal are 3-4 on the year and enter as an 87 overall.

Loss, 77-75. Woof. Giddens and Henry played well, but that’s a team we should beat. It’s tough to get an at-large bid in the Summit League when you’re losing to likely non-tournament teams like Illinois and Stanford, so we’re probably going to need to win the conference tournament again to punch our ticket.

We have a tough week coming up, too: we travel to face Michigan and Duke in true road games.

The Wolverines are No. 17 in the polls and the defending national champions. Can we get back on track?

Loss, 86-74. Ugh. My center Giddens only playing seven minutes because of foul trouble wasn’t ideal, and neither was his backup Brazzle also getting into foul trouble. Great game from Henry with 23 points — we need more of that. It’s become apparent that this team isn’t as good defensively as we typically are.

Alright, Duke time. The Blue Devils are ranked No. 9 in the polls entering the game.

Loss, 99-60. Zero combined points from my backcourt seems less than great. This regular season is not going how I had hoped.

Next up we have Dayton, who enter at No. 11 in the country. The Flyers are led by Matt Boswell, the player we ever created for the first ever winner of our bracket contest. Dayton has not made the tournament yet since Boswell’s arrival, but it looks like they’re going to do it this year. This would be a nice win if we can get it.

Loss, 74-60. Boswell with 14 points in the win. We have left ourselves zero margin for error in the conference tournament.

We only have one more non-conference game left: @ Vanderbilt. The Commodores are led by one-time Leathernecks recruiting target Stane’s Hobson, who is a 93 overall as a senior point guard.

Win, 106-102! Hell yeah. We really needed that heading into conference play. Cunningham killed it (23 points on 9-of-14 shooting), Tron Whaley is turning into a dynamic point guard (18 points, six assists), and Brazzle gave us a nice lift off the bench with 10 points. I love the three-point shooting and the assists. Let’s keep it going to finish out the year strong.

It is now time for Summit League play. We have gone undefeated in the Summit the last two seasons. Can we do it again?

Yup. We finish off the perfect slate in conference play to enter the conference tournament at 21-6. Here’s a look at the end-of-season stats:

Great year for Cunningham. He’s just so damn good; the fact that he’s our primary option on offense is the thing that has me feeling optimistic about our tournament chances. Having four starters finish in the teens in scoring average feels pretty good, too. I also have to note our three-point shooting numbers were through the roof this year. Here’s what we did from deep:

Tron Whaley: 47 percent on 117 attempts

Wilky Henry: 40.3 percent on 114 attempts

Allan Cunningham: 47.2 percent on 74 attempts

Mathew Alloway: 50.7 percent on 63 attempts

I wish there was a way I could tell my team to shoot more threes. Getting up enough 3PAs is going to be a big key going into the postseason.

But first, we have to win the Summit League conference tournament again. We again enter the field as the top seed. As I’ve noted, I really don’t think we’ll have enough juice to get an at-large bid after our shaky non-conference schedule. We can’t have a letdown here.

Summit League tournament

First game is against Oral Roberts. They enter at 7-22 on the season.

Win, 123-62. Henry scores 24, Giddens scores 22, and Cunningham scores 20. We hit 12-of-19 threes in this game, too. We have UMKC next.

Win, 81-61. Henry plays arguably his best game of the season, finishing with 28 points on 12-of-17 shooting in the win. We out-rebounded them 36-19. Seems good. Now we have Fort Wayne in the title game. Why am I so nervous about this?

Win, 86-52! Tron just crushes it with 26 points, seven assists, and 6-of-8 shooting from three. Ham put in work like always, too. I am more relieved than excited — but hell yes, we’re going dancing again. I’m hoping for a single-digit seed, but I doubt our resume was good enough for it.

2027 NCAA tournament

We’re a No. 12 seed against No. 5 seed Minnesota in the first round. Wow. We haven’t faced the Golden Gophers in this simulation before, so that should be fun.

Here’s a look at our roster heading into the tournament:

It’s going to be Wilky and Cunningham leading the way. We just need Alloway to not actively hurt as our lowest rated starter in years as an 85 overall. For the record, I liked what he showed in the Louisville game and I’m super optimistic about his future. We also need Giddens to finally play up to his rating, especially as a projected lottery pick and what appears to be the highest rated junior in the country.

This is going to be a really tough test for a first round game. We’re going to watch the simulated game together on Sunday, Aug. 16 at 8:30 p.m. ET on Twitch. We’ll talk about that more in a second. But first, let’s get to this year’s bracket contest.

How does scoring work?

We use a standard scoring format. You get one point for correctly guessing the winner in a first round game, two points for correctly a winner in a round of 32 game, four points for correctly guessing a winner in a Sweet 16 game, eight points for correctly guessing a winner in an Elite Eight game, 16 points for correctly guessing a winner in the Final Four, and 32 points for correctly guessing the national champion.
