Digimon Adventure 01x15 - Etemon! Grand Entrance of Evil / The Dark Network of Etemon
Previously on Digimon Adventure: On their way to Server Continent, the kids had a cleaning day after discovering Devimon's been dumping used Black Gears and old lanyards in the ocean. During clean-up, Gomamon got excited and nearly killed everyone.
Drake, meanwhile, regretted blowing that "They completed the tutorial level" crack on the episode's proper rundown. Should'a saved that.
Now, they're about to make landfall and meet the most iconic vocal performance in the entirety of the Adventure 01 dub.
It's been five days since the kids set sail. Now we open on Taichi bristling with anticipation on Whamon's back while the others snooze.
(This would be about Day 12, I believe, since they've been here. The timescale of Day 6 was a little confusing in both versions, but the kids ended Day 6 fighting Devimon. Then they had dinner and a night-time discussion about coming to Server, before building the raft in the daylight of Day 7. Five days later would put us at 12.)
He's so excited, he wakes everyone up even though they're probably still a ways out given how far that appears to be. Rude.
Taichi: Hey! Everyone wake up! It's the tairiku (continent)! We've reached Server Tairiku! Yamato: (waking) What's all the racket? Jou: (waking) What's this about about taiyaki (tasty fish-shaped pastry)? Taichi: Not taiyaki, tairiku! Look! It's Server Tairiku!
That's another one for the untranslatable wordplay pile, so the dub plays it this way.
Tai: Alright, everybody, wake up! Rise and shine! We're landing at Server! Matt: (waking) ...I was only resting my eyes. Joe: (waking) Well, your eyes were snoring pretty loudly. Tai: Come on, we're gonna be there in a few minutes! Gotta make sure we have everything we'll need!
Matt tries to play too cool dude for sleep only for Joe to swiftly undercut him. Hey, look at that; Joe got to be the deliverer of a joke instead of its target!
Not sure what Tai thinks they need to grab, though. I'm not even sure what they've been eating or drinking on this trip, since none of the shots of them riding Whamon have suggested that their oil drum filled with potable water or crates of food survived the raft's destruction. They were last seen floating in the debris, so I guess we'll just have to assume they fished those out offscreen.
(Maybe they've been fishing, providing a supply of tasty fish to both eat and drink somehow like Taichi suggested earlier.)
As they approach, Agumon demonstrates the limits of his worldly knowledge.
Agumon: Wow, what a huge island! Piyomon: It's not an island, it's a continent! Tentomon: This is my first time ever seeing so much land on the horizon!
Sadly, even getting involved with Agumon's ignorance gets Piyomon in trouble with the dub team, who blame her for it.
Agumon: Wow, that island's huge! Biyomon: I've never seen an island so big! Tentomon: It's not an island; It's the continent of Server.
Guess they didn't like the choice to have someone other than Exposition Guy correct Agumon.
Meanwhile, not everyone is quite up and at 'em yet. Palmon eagerly tries to rouse Mimi from a deep slumber.
Palmon: Wake up, Mimi! You can see Server Tairiku from here! It's the Tairiku! TAIRIKU!!! Mimi: (muttering, half-asleep) I prefer keki (cake) to taiyaki.... (rolls over and goes back to sleep) Palmon: (sigh) Oh, Mimi.
Alright, that one got me. I was not prepared for Taiyaki Wordplay 2: The Reckoning. XD
Needing a replacement joke here, the dub goes for the Valley Girl bit.
Palmon: Mimi, you've just gotta wake up and look at this! We're going to land on a BIG CONTINENT!!! Mimi: (muttering, half-asleep) Nooo... I'm getting a pedicure.... (rolls over and goes back to sleep) Palmon: (sigh) Oh, Mimi.
This is a good use for it. We've come a long way from the first couple episodes, where the show would get mad at Mimi over a character trait they made up to have something to get mad at her about. Switching "Mimi won't get up because she likes cake more than continent" to "Mimi won't get up because she's at the dream spa" is a lateral shift. Having her say this retains the goofiness of the moment as best they can and doesn't make her look any worse in the process.
Pulling up to Server, the kids disembark. It's a dangerous process; There's no docking mechanism for a whale, so everyone has to slide down Whamon's side and then kick off and jump to the cliff before they slide too far and fall into the ocean. But they make it. All but one, who remains up top paralyzed with fear.
Sora: Come on, Mimi-chan! Be brave! Mimi: Why do we have to get off here? Aren't there better places to land!? Koushiro: In fact, there is an inlet up north where it would have been easier for us to get off. Jou: That's why we had a group discussion, but decided to land here. You slept through it, though! Mimi: Don't make important decisions like that without me!
I want to feel bad for her, but honestly! Keki over taiyaki? Mimi deserves this.
(I'm really more of a pie person, myself; I can't stand the frosting on cake. I've never actually had taiyaki but I've always been curious. It sounds kinda like a cream-filled donut but made from waffle instead of cake.)
Meanwhile, in the dub:
Sora: Come on, Mimi! Mimi: Uhh, this is a little too extreme sports for me. Is there some way I can be airlifted onto the island? Izzy: Sorry we can't just move the continent for you, Mimi. Now, according to the map, this is the best beach to come ashore. Joe: Just put one foot in front of the other and you'll be fine! Really! It's as easy as falling off a log, Mimi! Mimi: Yeah? Well, I've fallen off plenty of logs and believe me, it's not as easy as it looks!
They cut the context that Mimi could have had a voice in this discussion had she not refused to wake up. That the group settled on a suboptimal landing spot is replaced by an insistence that this was the best place possible, forcing Joe and Mimi to spend their last two lines bantering.
Izzy also calls this cliffside a "beach" for some reason.
In the end, Whamon ends up being the deciding factor here. He sinks suddenly, unbalancing Mimi and sending her tumbling down his side before giving her a bump to throw her up onto the cliff. Trusting one of these lunkheads to break her fall for him.
BAM. Fall broken. Hope his computer's okay; This was probably the worst option for Mimi to land on.
His task complete, Whamon says his farewells and returns to the ocean, leaving the kids on a whole new continent. Fortunately, they're not entirely directionless.
Mimi: Where do we go from here? Palmon: Whamon said that if we continue on, we'll reach a Koromon village in the forests within half a day. Mimi: Koromon? I think I've heard that name before.... Agumon: I used to be a Koromon! Mimi: That's right! Tentomon: The Koromon should be willing to help us. Taichi: Alright! Let's go!
Taichi's so eager to go, he turns away from Agumon to address the group at warp speed. Flipping instantly from one pose to the other with no transitional animation frames between. Super jarring.
Not sure how Whamon knows much about the continent's geography past its edges. Nonetheless, it seems implied that this came up during the talk about where to land. Proximity to the Koromon village may have been the deciding factor in choosing Perilous Cliffside over Easier Inlet.
In the dub:
Mimi: So what are we going to do now? Palmon: While you were asleep, Whamon told us where to go. In the forest, a few miles from here, there's a Koromon village! Mimi: Koromon? Why, that somehow sounds familiar! Agumon: I was a Koromon the day you got here. Mimi: I forgot! Tentomon: The Koromon are a group of Digimon always willing to help out those in need! Tai: Okay, gang! Let's move out!
Tentomon's a bit more verbose and seems to be basing his idea off the biology of Koromon or something rather than a general hope that a kindly village will assist travelers.
But the bigger shift is in Palmon's line. Human walking pace generally averages about 2-4 mph. "A few miles from here" is a much shorter distance than half a day's journey.
The kids set off into Server. We join up with them trudging through the desert.
Jou: This really is a continent.... Gomamon: Why are you stating the obvious? Jou: Because we've been walking for so long and the scenery hasn't even changed a single bit! Mimi: I thought, once we reached the shore, I could take a bath.... Palmon: You can, once we reach the village! Mimi: When will we get there, then!? What hour, minute, and second? Palmon: ...uhhh....
Jou calls out that the biomes of Server are significantly larger than the ones on File Island. They've been walking for a good 8-12 hours through dry, dry desert and nothing looks any different from where they started.
In the dub:
Sora: This place is bigger than I thought. Izzy: It's simple physics. The universe is expanding! Joe: I think my feet are expanding. We have been walking all day long and there's no sign of the village yet! Mimi: Oh, I'd give anything to be in a nice clean bathtub with lots of bubble bath in it! Palmon: You can do that once we get to the village. Mimi: You honestly think they have bathtubs, Palmon!? Palmon: ...uhhh....
So much for "a few miles". Sora and Izzy's lines here are delivered in completely casual tones, which makes Joe and Mimi come off more whiny. In the original, everyone just sounds tired and frustrated by their trek.
We lose Jou's point about the size difference between Server and File, and replace it with Izzy's... random derailment? Cosmic expansion has nothing to do with why Server's desert is bigger than the Gear Savannah.
Mimi's bit is also shifted, and in a way that makes Mimi look better. We've come a long ways from changing her lines to give the others reasons to yell at her in the first few episodes. In the original, she's just talking about bathing in general; Palmon tries to be helpful and Mimi snaps at her. In the dub, she's fantasizing about a luxurious bathtub experience, making Palmon's attempt at encouragement more unreasonable.
Suddenly, Agumon smells something. Getting a sniff of Koromon in the distance, he calls Taichi's attention. Through his mini-telescope, Taichi spots the forest they've been looking for in the distance, and the group races off towards salvation.
Following a short march into the woods, they find their destination.
Eager for a chance to take a bath, Mimi races down the hill ahead of the others. While Palmon chases after her, Agumon hesitates. After a moment, he drops a bombshell.
Agumon: This isn't the place.
Dub Agumon isn't quite as certain.
Agumon: Something doesn't feel right.
Reaching the bottom of the hill, Mimi races into the village to find... Koromon?
Mimi: Hey, where are your baths? Koromon?: (They all turn around to face her at once, saying nothing.) Mimi: Huh? Did Koromon always look like this? Palmon: No, these are Pagumon.
Just so we're all on the same page about the chill running down Agumon's spine right now, the narrator cuts in with the rundown. Pagumon is a Baby-stage Virus-type Digimon. They get their names from "pagu", the Japanese word for the "pug" breed of dog. Pugmon.
Narrator: Pagumon. A Baby Digimon who loves to bully the weak and make fools out of others.
For his part, Tentomon seems at a loss for what he can say here.
Tentomon: Hmm, Pagumon. There are[sic] more to them than meets the eye.
Tentomon's rundown is a shrug emoji followed by "IDK Maybe they're Decepticons. Is that the right toy franchise?" He's so utterly at a loss, he even screws up his grammar.
As soon as the rundown's complete, the Pagumon gently knock Palmon over and run off with Mimi.
Great job, Palmon! Solid 10/10 bodyguarding happening right now!
The rest of the group arrives too late to stop them from taking Mimi. Following the sound of her screams, they make their way to a luxurious hut. A trail left behind by her discarded hat and bag lead them to the chamber she's been taken to.
The dub takes this as a perfect opportunity to add some jokes. When they find her hat, Sora picks it up and inspects it.
Sora: There's Mimi's hat! (snatches it up) It's definitely hers.
For the dub, she says:
Sora: Hey, look up there! That's Mimi's hat! (snatches it up) There's the price tag; It's Mimi's.
XD Solid. That got me.
Then, when they find the bag, we get:
Jou: Hey, isn't that Mimi-kun's bag? Koushiro: You're right. That can't be anyone else's but hers. Taichi: Okay, then! (angrily throws back the curtain) She must be in here!
The dub makes this into:
Joe: That's Mimi's purse. She never goes anywhere without! Izzy: Logically, that can mean only one thing: She's missing. Tai: (angrily throws back the front curtain) That's it!
Helpful, Izzy.
However, as Taichi approaches the rear curtain to enter the chamber beyond, Sora makes an alarming discovery.
It's a bath. The Pagumon brought her to the bath she asked for. A revelation that comes much too late for both Taichi and Koushiro, who are swiftly and furiously taken out by a thrown wash basin and shampoo bottle respectively.
Once the two intruders have been slain, Sora closes the curtain to preserve what's left of Mimi's privacy.
(Koushiro is having the worst day. XD This is the second time he's been laid out by Mimi-related projectile attacks.)
The Pagumon lay out a feast and formally welcome everyone to the Pagumon village. Singing a welcoming anthem in the background while the kids discuss.
Gabumon: Apparently this was a Pagumon village. Agumon: That's weird. I'm sure I smelled Koromon here.... Mimi: I feel like Otohime-sama when she arrived at Ryugu-jou! Jou: You're mixing up characters. You mean Urashima. Sora: (picking out apples with Taichi) You don't think these are fake, do you? Taichi: As if something like that would happen twice! (bite) Tasty! It's real!
Mimi and Jou are talking about a Japanese folk tale. The protagonist, a fisherman named Urashima, rescues a turtle. The turtle turns out to be the princess Otohime, daughter of the sea's ruler Ryujin. To repay his kindness, Ryujin grants him an audience in his great palace of Ryugu-jou at the bottom of the ocean. There's a lot more to it than that but the important thing is, as Jou states, Mimi mixed up which one was the main character.
(Imagine that, Mimi likes and relates to the cool sea princess more than the everyman protag. Representation matters, folks.)
In the dub:
Gabumon: This is definitely a Pagumon village. Agumon: Something's wrong here, Gabumon. I know what I smelt was Koromon. I'd bet my nose on it! Mimi: I feel just like a princess in a big, beautiful palace! Joe: I once had a chihuahua named Princess. Sora: Listen, Tai; You don't suppose this could be some kind of trick? Tai: 'Course not! You think I don't know a good Digimon from a bad one?
As far as compensating for untranslatable gags go, "chihuahua named Princess" is one of their weaker attempts. Don't know why they removed the callback to Devimon's feast, though.
In any case, the Digimon from there agree that the Pagumon are much nicer than their reputation.
They're right, too. The Pagumon are eerily nice. Like, they're too nice. They're clearly trying too hard to be accommodating. Comparing to the Pyocomon feast, the Pagumon have their entire population out here practically worshipping the passing travelers. It's weird.
They've crossed the line from "hospitality" to "trying to sell something". It's super suspicious if you're not eleven.
Suddenly, out of nowhere, a long-awaited event finally happens.
Poyomon evolves, once more becoming Tokomon. He's back to where he was when he and Takeru met. The kids and Pagumon all applaud, celebrating his achievement.
But then, as Day 12 comes to a close and the kids go to bed inside one of the huts, this happy occasion becomes markedly less so.
The Pagumon kidnap Tokomon, tying him up and jabbing him with sticks.
Tokomon: W-Why are you doing this!? Pagumon: Because you evolved! Tokomon: You aren't nice Digimon!? Pagumon 1: It was an act! Pagumon 2: You're all so stupid for falling for it!
The dub edits the footage to cut out all shots of the Pagumon jabbing sticks into Tokomon. This means Pagumon's first line and Tokomon's second are all cut out.
Tokomon: What'd I do!? Why are you picking on me!? Pagumon 1: Because you Digi-volved! Pagumon 2: You were so easy to fool! What a bunch of losers!
Now, I enjoy beating babies with sticks as much as the next person so obviously the censoring makes me sad. But the dialogue still flows smoothly and hits all the key points. It's a simple enough exchange that it can be easily covered in three lines.
They don't get very far into Tokomon's bullying, however; A trio of Digimon call out to them, demanding to know what's happening here.
These are Gazimon, a Child-stage Virus-type Mammal Digimon. Their name comes from gazigazi, the onomotapoeia for eating.
Narrator: Gazimon. They have a vicious and aggressive temperament. Their special attack, Paralyze Breath, is a mass of electricity that numbs their opponents.
Paralyzing lightning breath. Well, that's fucking ominous. This is not the cavalry here to save Tokomon; These are very bad bunnies.
Tokomon handles the diegetic rundown himself.
Tokomon: Look! Those are Gazimon! On the evil scale of 1 to 10, 10 being bad, these Digimon are 12!
Really? Where would Devimon rank on that scale? Because the Gazimon have steep competition if they're going to trump him in badness. I agree with the sentiment but you may be overselling it a little.
The Gazimon promptly question the Pagumon about all this.
Gazimon: Where'd that Tokomon come from? Pagumon: H-He came with a bunch of humans.... Gazimon: Humans?
They weren't prepared for that answer, exchanging looks among themselves.
The Gazimon have the Pagumon bring Tokomon to a cave behind a waterfall. There, they lock him in a cage.
Pagumon: Stay quiet in here, you!
The dub Pagumon express jealousy for earlier.
Pagumon: Not so special now, are you?
From the cage, Tokomon sees many red eyes light up from deeper within. The sight of it frightens him, but we move perspective to the Gazimon watching from outside.
Gazimon 1: Who would have guessed the Chosen Children would show up here? Gazimon 2: I'll go tell Etemon-sama about this. You guys take care of the rest!
After torturing and imprisoning Tokomon, now seems like a good time for the dub to drop in a tension-lightening gag.
Gazimon 1: One of us has to tell Etemon that the DigiDestined humans are here! Gazimon 2: I'll go. I gotta ask him for time off for a harecut anyway!
While the Pagumon are instructed to keep an eye on the kids and not to let them leave.
We follow that Gazimon as he races across the landscape. On the dawn of Day 13, he reaches his destination. Spotting a Monochromon hauling Etemon's trailer around, he approaches the trailer and we are introduced to this piece of work!
Introducing Etemon-sama! Perfect-stage Virus-type Puppet Digimon and pop star extraordinaire. This guy turns in the single most memorable vocal performance of the entire dub by being a major villain voiced entirely and unapologetically as a full-blown Elvis Impersonator.
For the next season or whatever, we are going to be fighting Evil Monkey J-Pop Elvis. That is the plot. Digimon is wild.
Etemon: YEAH YEAH!!! Who is the strongest in the world!? That's me, ETEMOOOOOOOON!!!
Two things to note here: First, "YEAH YEAH" is in English for added stylishness. Second and more importantly, when Etemon says "strongest in the world", he specifically says "Konoyo de saikyou". That's an interesting choice of words: Konoyo.
We've previously seen the world referred to as Digimon Kai and Digital Sekai. The words there, kai and sekai, are ways of referring to the physical reality around us. It doesn't necessarily mean "Earth", mind you; Dragon Ball for instance uses kaio, "World-King", to refer to godly beings who govern the entire universe. "World" is different from "planet".
Konoyo is more of a spiritual term; It exists in opposition to anoyo, the other world beyond death. Etemon proclaims up-front that he is the strongest Digimon in the world of mortal life. He's our Frieza, um... according to him, anyway.
Meanwhile, the dub gives us our first impression of his Elvis tones.
Etemon: Yeah! The concert sensation of the Server Continent is back! ALRIGHT, it's Etemon the King!
I like that he calls himself "the King" right up front. Not even pretending. Uh-huh-huh.
Yeah, there's no way to actually make his voice come across through text. But if you know it, y'know. In any case, that's not really added; Gazimon calls him King of Digimon right after the narrator's rundown, which is probably where the inspiration to make him Elvis came from. I mean. He's a music sensation called the King, there's only so many directions you can go with that.
Narrator: Etemon. A Digimon who claims to be the strongest. His two powerful attacks, Dark Spirits and Love Serenade, support that claim.
For the rundown, the narrator even centers on the fact that Etemon's status as Strongest in Konoyo cites only a source of like, your opinion, man. While nonetheless stressing that he has the might to back it up.
Tentomon has to warp over to handle the diegetic rundown, because we're now officially at the point where doing it diegetically doesn't always work anymore.
Tentomon: There is nothing entertaining about Etemon. He has the power to control anything electronic through his Dark Network.
Spoilers, Tentomon!
Though, in a rare twist, the dub's rundown is more informative and useful than the original's, giving us an early explanation of the way Etemon's abilities work.
Hard disagree about that first line, though. Dub Etemon is amazing.
Once Etemon's intro is out of the way, Gazimon attempts to broach the topic of the kids with him.
Gazimon: HAIL ETEMON-SAMA!!! King of Digimon! Etemon: (punches Gazimon in the skull) Shut up! You're too loud for this early in the morning! Gazimon: ...maybe you should take your own advice.... Etemon: SHUT UP!!! SILENCE!!! According to my calculations, the Chosen Children will be landing here soon. I'll ambush them here and crush them all! A fine plan, if I do say so myself. But if you're too loud, the children will hear you!
He gestures to a map, where a blinking blue light indicates the kids' location. As a nice detail, you can also see the inlet further up north that Mimi would have preferred to disembark at.
(You can see the gears turning in his head here if you think about it. That spot on the map is probably the jagged cliffside. If the GPS places them there and they're on a raft, they're going to need to find somewhere nearby that their raft can actually come aground at. So Etemon's waiting at the nearest beach.)
This is a good plan, thwarted by the circumstances of the sea voyage. The Whamon encounter was a fucking miracle. Due to how much faster he was than the raft, we arrived a full day sooner than expected. And we were able to disembark directly onto the jagged cliff (or inlet) rather than this raft-accessible beach. Whamon single-finnedly made the entire rest of this series possible.
This also sets the tone for the kind of villain Etemon is going to be. Devimon had to be cautious and calculating because a 6v1 Adult-stage dogpile intimidated him. He wasn't confident he could win that.
Etemon is Perfect-stage and allegedly Strongest in Konoyo so his plan is to just tear these kids apart with his bare hands. There is nothing he can throw at them that will be more effective than himself.
Over in the dub, he continues to Elvis.
Gazimon: EVERYONE HAIL ETEMON, THE TRUE KI-- Etemon: (punches Gazimon in the skull) Now, son, you're way too loud for an early morning time like this, understand? Gazimon: But you're the one using the amplifier, sir.... Etemon: Now let's get something straight, sonny-boy; I'm the Monarch of Rock and Roll. Your jives make me happy! The humans will be here soon! You see now, once I start making my fabulous music? Well, those kids are gonna be mine! They'll just have to come over and see what great star is singin' like that!
Without mentioning that they're coming ashore here, it's less clear why he expects them to show up at this spot. I think you can still put it together from context - we got a big shot of the beach on Gazimon's approach - but that threw me as a kid.
I do, however, like the dub's addition to his plan: He was going to rock out and bait them into coming to their doom of their own free will. History suggests this would have gone off without a hitch; Children are gullible and our kids have proven to be no exception.
Overall, Etemon has a solid plan. There's just one problem with it.
Gazimon: The children won't be here. Etemon: Hm!? Gazimon: The Chosen Children arrived yesterday and landed somewhere else. They're at the Pagumon village right now. Etemon: W-What!? HOW!? WHY!? Gazimon: (points to the map) That's not up-to-date.
Etemon slams his fists down on the console, causing the data to refresh. The blinking GPS light changes to a new location on the map. Devimon lets out a hysterical shriek at the sight of it.
Etemon: AHHHHHHH IT'S TRUE!!! My plan is ruined! I'll never forgive them for this! Remember that!
Etemon releases the Monochromon and detaches the harness from his trailer. He then summons his Dark Network, causing a set of cables to emerge from the earth for his trailer to drive along.
Gazimon asks Etemon about his intentions.
Gazimon: Will you gather your subordinates? Etemon: I'll be more than enough for Chosen Children on my own.
But Etemon has no intention of leaving this task to others.
In the dub:
Gazimon: There's just one thing wrong. Etemon: Huh!? Gazimon: Just that those seven kids are already here. They've been at the Pagumon village since yesterday. Etemon: What!? Just what are you saying!? I had it all worked out, kid! My whole plan's flawless! Gazimon: Well, somebody forgot to tell those humans! Etemon: No! It's just not fair! (Etemon slams his fists on the console, causing the light to move) Etemon: I am the King here! They gotta learn the hard way what you already know: They can't be messin' with the royal one! I expect my plans to be followed, uh-huh-huh!
Once he gets his trailer moving, the exchange is:
Gazimon: This will be your greatest performance yet, boss! Etemon: It's not easy being a superstar, little bunny, but somebody's gotta do it!
This exchange conveys so much less information. Etemon doesn't even bring up the movement of the blinking light, and he seems to pound the console out of frustration rather than to refresh the data. Combined with him failing to mention the kids' landing, it's not super clear in the dub what that light even represents.
They also cut the explanation that he a) has subordinates he can bring against the kids but b) is choosing to do this himself. Entertaining as the Elvis persona is, it's replaced much of the plot laid out in this scene.
On the plus side, Etemon being furious with the kids for not following his plan to murder them is a great extrapolation from the original "I'll never forgive them!" moment.
Back at the Pagumon village, the kids search frantically for Takeru's missing Partner.
Mimi: I thought I could finally take a break. I wish he wouldn't make us go to so much trouble! Gomamon: And who do you think's given us the most trouble all this time? Mimi: Jou-senpai. Jou: Ack! He means you! Mimi: EHHHH!?!?
Honestly, I'm with Mimi. I mean, Mimi once threw a tantrum because Koushiro was ignoring her for a long time, but Jou once melted down at the entire group over how they season their eggs. Jou's dogged insistence that there's humans to take care of us just around the next corner has also landed us in trouble multiple times, including being the reason the kids fell for Devimon's trap.
Gomamon's Partner biases are showing. I love Jou, and the way he behaves makes perfect sense when you consider the pressures he's under. But if we're gonna talk "Who keeps getting us into jams?" and "Who's the hardest to be around sometimes?" then the finger should be pointed that-a-way.
The dub takes this as an opportunity for a Valley Girl joke.
Mimi: Can we hurry this up? I'm scheduled for a mud pack and a facial in half an hour. Gomamon: Tokomon should know better than to interrupt your beauty treatments. Mimi: You're so right. Joe: Huh? He's being sarcastic. Mimi: WHA--!?!?
I think the dub version of this flows better because Mimi's the butt of both jokes but here it feels more deserved. There's no ambiguity here; Mimi's being shallow and Gomamon gently ribs her for it.
With everyone searching for Tokomon, Koushiro draws a map of the village in the dirt with a stick so he can mark everywhere they've looked. While the kids are searching the village, the Pagumon check the waterfall and report back that he wasn't there.
However, while everyone else is checking the village, Agumon returns to the forest. He's interested in pursuing that Koromon scent that did not lead in the village's direction earlier.
He follows that smell all the way to the waterfall, where he finds not only Tokomon in a cage but something else.
Agumon: Koromon! Why are you all locked up in here? Koromon 1: This is our home! Koromon 2: Two or three days ago, the Pagumon came here and took over our homes! Agumon: Then those guys are-- Tokomon: Wicked liars! You have to tell everyone!
Over in the dub, Agumon's kneejerk reaction to seeing Koromon in cages is to quip about it.
Agumon: Koromon! Boy, you guys gotta get a bigger apartment; Maybe some place with a few more bedrooms. Koromon 1: The Pagumon came and locked us in these cages! Koromon 2: About three days ago, they came in and took over our whole village. Agumon: Then we were really right after all! Tokomon: I appreciate chatting as much as the next guy, but if you untie me, we could go warn the others.
Dub Agumon and Tokomon are both unsettlingly casual about this predicament. Though the Koromon don't seem amused by any of this.
Agumon tries to free the Koromon, but he doesn't get very far before he's interrupted.
It's the two Gazimon who stayed behind while the third went for Etemon. They've been guarding this waterfall cave.
Agumon: I'll get you out of here quick! Gazimon: Oh, you're not allowed to do that. Agumon: You guys are... Gazimon! Gazimon: We'll be offering the Chosen Children to Etemon-sama! Agumon: Etemon? Gazimon: We'll dispose of you here!
Agumon barely has a chance to defend himself. The Gazimon lunge for him together, shoving him to the ground and raining punches down on him.
In the dub:
Agumon: I'll have you out in just a minute. Gazimon: I really don't think so! Agumon: Hmm? But you're Gazimon! Gazimon: Exactly right. And we're going to be giving those humans of yours to King Etemon. Agumon: No, you're not! Not quite! Gazimon: Why don't we teach the little lizard a lesson?
Between this and the last bit, I think Dub Agumon's high. His lines throughout this waterfall cave scene are atrocious. My favorite part is the way he delivers, "But you're Gazimon!" as if it's abnormal for Gazimon to behave this way.
Back in the village, the kids confer about the disappearances, but one person hasn't shown up to regroup.
Koushiro: Tokomon is still a baby, so he shouldn't have been able to go far.... Taichi: He's late... Where is Agumon searching?
Which the dub plays straight.
Back in the cave, the two Gazimon nail Agumon with their Paralyze Breath. He collapses to the ground, seeming to lose muscle control as we've been told the attack does.
Koromon 1: Two against one isn't fair! Koromon 2: You've got this, Agumon! Agumon: Taichi... let me evolve.... Gazimon: It's useless! No one outside can hear you! Agumon: Damn, if only this waterfall wasn't here... Waterfall... That's it!
The dub calls the Gazimon's move "Electric Stun Blast". Otherwise this is unchanged.
Suddenly, Agumon stands up again and lets off a Baby Flame. The Gazimon sidestep his shot, but he wasn't aiming for him; He hits the waterfall behind them. Then he shoots another Baby Flame. And another. Letting off shot after shot while the Gazimon ridicule him for his bad aim. Sending up steam into the air, which Taichi sees and points out from his scouting position with his mini-telescope.
Seeing the steam in the distance, the kids decide Tokomon must be over there. This sends the Pagumon into a panic.
Taichi: That's weird.... Yamato: What do you see, Taichi? Taichi: (points) I see smoke over there. Jou: What's that? Takeru: It's Tokomon! (All of the Pagumon collectively flinch) Pagumon 1: That can't be true! We just searched that waterfall! Pagumon Group: WE SEARCHED!!! WE SEARCHED!!! Koushiro: But he might have shown up after you finished searching. Taichi: I'll go take a look. Pagumon Group: YOU CAN'T DO THAT!!! Sora: Why not? We're just taking a look. Pagumon: Uhh... Because....
Suddenly, Mimi lets out a horrified scream, pulling everyone's attention away from the rising steam.
Somehow a Botamon has made its way into Mimi's lap.
Mimi: W-What is this thing!? Tentomon: It's a Botamon. Palmon: How would a Botamon be here? Yamato: What do you mean? Gabumon: Botamon is the Digimon that evolves into Koromon. There shouldn't be one in a Pagumon village. Taichi: Then this place is really....
The Pagumon launch into a reprise of their Welcome song, welcoming the kids to Not the Pagumon Village while scurrying away.
Over in the dub:
Mimi: Eww, what is this thing!? Tentomon: It's a Botamon. Palmon: Why would there be a Botamon here? Yamato: What do you mean? Gabumon: Botamon is the small egg form that Digivolves into Koromon and then into Agumon. Taichi: Then the Pagumon lied to us!
The only noteworthy thing is that Gabumon calls Botamon a "small egg form", which is an odd choice of descriptors, and adds that Koromon evolves into Agumon. Technically, due to branching evolution paths, not necessarily always the case. But it's not wrong either, and branching evolutions aren't a thing that's been introduced to the show anyways.
Yet.
Putting those soccer legs to work, Taichi sprints full-speed to the waterfall cave. He arrives much sooner than the rest of his group and their various levels of athleticism, giving Agumon what he needs to fight.
(Sometimes it's nice to sit back and appreciate how big Adult-stage Digimon are. Good news is that the rushing sounds of the waterfall will drown out the Gazimon pissing themselves.)
Sweeping the Gazimon into the river with a single shot of Mega Flame, Greymon quickly puts an end to this. The kids enter the cage, releasing Tokomon and the Koromon from their cages.
Takeru: Thank goodness you're safe! Tokomon: I'm sorry for worrying you, Takeru!
The dub calls back to Tokomon's recent reincarnation.
T.K.: Tokomon! I thought I lost you again! Tokomon: I'm like a boomerang; I keep coming back!
Aww, that's sweet. So far, the original's been unclear about whether Tokomon remembers his past life with Takeru or not. We haven't spent enough time with him yet to know. But the dub's putting it all up-front that this is the same guy and he was just resting. He speaks in longer and more complicated sentences, and now he's quipping about his revival.
But then an ominous voice calls out over loudspeaker.
Etemon: Chosen Children, can you hear me? Koromon Group: IT'S ETEMON!!! Etemon: How dare you make a fool of me!? Since you pissed me off, I'm going to destroy everything in this village! Taichi: Everything in the village!? Koushiro: There's no way he can do that!
In the dub:
Etemon: You measly little DigiDestined humans, thank-you-very-much! Hello! Koromon Group: IT'S ETEMON!!! OH NO!!! Etemon: You little bratty kids messed up all my big, beautiful plans so now I'm gonna have to punish you all by playing a little number that I just wrote. It's called "Wrecking the Whole Place". Taichi: "Wrecking the Whole Place"!? Izzy: Do you think he can actually do that?
What, play the song? Sure, he seems talented eno-- OH, you mean, can he wreck the place? Dunno. We just met him right now, and the nature of his threat's a bit harder to follow than when he said in no uncertain terms, "I'm going to destroy this village."
Etemon puts his Dark Network where his mouth is, raising cables from the ground to form a network in the sky above the Koromon village.
The Network sends jolts of destructive energy down into the various huts, obliterating them one by one. In the original, he simply calls out "Dark Network!" to summon the cables, but the dub calls it Dark Network Concert Crush.
The Digimon evolve to resist Etemon, but he's ready for them.
Etemon: I won't let you do that! LOVE SERENADE!!!
Jamming on his guitar, Etemon plays a killer beat that forces the Digimon back into their Child-states. As long as he's playing his Love Serenade, evolution is impossible.
In the dub:
Etemon: Well, you say you want a Digivolution? Guess what, the answer's ~noooooo! Dark Network Concert Crush!
I guess this, too, is Dark Network Concert Crush. Versatile move, that.
Taichi: What's wrong with you guys!? Agumon: I-I can't feel any power! Tentomon: His Love Serenade drains you of your abililty to fight! Koushiro: Is there any other way to fight against him? Tentomon: Not while we're in this state. If we could evolve to a higher level.... Yamato: If Garurumon evolved to a higher level, it would be possible? Sora: So this is why Gennai-san told us to find the Tags and Crests. Jou: It's too late to realize that now!
Tentomon speculates that evolving to Perfect-stage would give them the ability to fight back against Love Serenade, but as Jou points out, it's a little late to start looking for Crests now.
The dub needs to squeeze a commercial break here, so they cut up the footage just a bit. The commercial lands after Tai's initial line, at which point they splice in footage of Etemon's Concert Crush to re-establish context upon return.
Tai: Something strange is going on! (Commercial) Etemon: Dark Network, YEAH!!! (A bolt of dark energy blasts the river just outside the cave) Agumon: Concert Crush took our power! Tentomon: Does rock and roll have that effect in your world? Sora: Only on our parents. Izzy: So there's no way for us to fight this monster? Tentomon: As we are? No. If only we could Digivolve a step further. Matt: A step further? Sora: That must be what Gennai was referring to when he told us about finding the Crests and Tags! Joe: I think it's just a little late for that now, Sora.
Nice rock & roll quip, Sora. Hahaha we're going to die in here.
Out of options, the Koromon lead the kids deeper into the cave. Unfortunately, they run right into a dead end.
Taichi: What's this? Koromon: There's a legend that says if anything were to happen to our village, we should escape from here!
In the dub, it's more of a hidey-hole.
Taichi: Huh!? What's this? Koromon: This is a safe place where we hide when anything bad happens to our village!
Oh, y'all get attacked a lot, I take it?
This wall presents a problem for our escape. Fortunately, Taichi's Tag begins to react to it. A bright orange light surrounds everyone, and the wall with the symbol shrinks, forming into a Crest to slot into Taichi's Tag.
Taichi: This is a Crest! Yamato: What? Taichi: I have a Crest! Yamato: Alright!
The dub delivers the same idea, but is slightly awkward in its delivery.
Tai: I think I know what this is! Matt: Okay, what? Tai: A Crest! Sora: A Crest? Tai: Exactly! Now we've got a Crest! Matt: How awesome!
The way Tai delivers "Now we've got a Crest!" makes it sound like Etemon's drowning in Crests and we're just now picking up our first to even the playing field. We are, and it is to even the playing field, but not because we're trying to match Etemon in Crest count.
Not only do we acquire a Crest, but when the glow recedes, we're in a different cave entirely.
Jou: Th-This is.... Koromon: We're in the mountains far, far away from where our village is. Jou: Then we're saved! Yamato: Looks that way. Mimi: I'm so glad! Taichi: A Crest... I finally have one! As long as I have this, Etemon is no threat at all!
Careful of that cockiness, Taichi. It might lead you into trouble.
In the dub:
Joe: ...didn't this used to be a wall? Koromon: Yeah, but the Crest must have brought us here! These mountains are a long way from our village! Joe: Alright! Frequent flier miles! Matt: This place is the bomb! Mimi: It's beautiful! Tai: Hmm... With this Crest, we can do anything we want! You know, guys, I think this is the first step on our trip home!
I like how Tai is overselling the Crest's capabilities but in a completely different way. Ironically, he'll actually be right about that prediction while Taichi's in for a rude awakening.
This is the second time frequent flier miles have been brought up. These preteens care an awful lot about thrifty cross-country transit. It's almost like middle-aged adults are writing their dialogue or something.
(Back in the 90's, frequent flier miles were all over cartoons and sitcoms. Writers were certain that worrying about thrifty cross-country transit was a universal concern. I knew that frequent flier miles were desirable before I even knew what planes were.)
However, as the kids discuss their newfound safety, a cable of Etemon's Dark Network feeds their location back to Etemon's trailer.
Gazimon: AUGH!!! Etemon-sama, the Chosen Children-- Etemon: The Chosen Children have been torn to pieces by now. Gazimon: They were suddenly sent somewhere else. Etemon: WHAT!?!? (Etemon turns and looks at the map) Etemon: You're right... How strange to see them over there. I'll need to stay on my guard with these children. But that's what makes defeating them worthwhile!
Etemon is surprisingly chill about the kids' teleportation. At least, after the initial shock, anyways.
In the dub:
Gazimon: Um, Etemon? About the human children-- Etemon: Yes, little bunny, trapping them all in that cave is more fun than learning how to lip sync! Gazimon: Maybe not, boss; They're missing! Etemon: HOW COULD YOU LOSE THEM!?!? Let me see! (Etemon turns and looks at the map) Etemon: They got away! This bunch is a whole lot more clever than I thought they were. I'm gonna have to think about this one, then defeatin' those kids is gonna earn me a standin' ovation!
Etemon was trying to blast them into bits and pieces? Nuh nuh nuh, the plan was to trap them in the cave the whole time. Nobody ever went in after them and it's not like there's any bars to prevent them from leaving, but he's still shocked they left the cave.
We close here, with Etemon plotting his next move against the Chosen Children while they flee into the mountains of Server. Both Etemon and Taichi anticipating a chance to meet again.
Assessment: This is a strong intro for Etemon. Like Devimon and the mansion trick, Etemon is given a powerful introduction to set him up as a force to be reckoned with. He brings tremendous peril to the table, which the kids only narrowly escape with their lives.
There but for the grace of Whamon, he would have had them. He nearly did anyway; Much of the back half of this epsiode is spent showing off what his pet project the Dark Network can do. Its effects are creatively distinct from Devimon's Black Gears, and menacing in a variety of ways.
And yet Etemon himself is a lovable goofball. Rather than trying to match Devimon in calculating chessmaster menace, Etemon keeps things light and fun. He's a silly villain with big reactions who is no less threatening for it, and he makes this section of the show a lot of fun.
The dub, unfortunately, cuts a lot of the Why's in this episode. Context is being stripped away left and right from various scenes which is a hard negative. Their jokes are hit-or-miss, but there's a higher saturation of jokes that work than ones that don't. And Etemon... is Etemon. So the dub of this one is lesser, but entertainingly so.

Full Episode Commentary
2x8: Rose
When Elena's abductor delivers her, Trevor feeds on him. He doesn't even bother to cover up his kill, he just leaves him there. I really love vampires lol
Damon: Wait, did you see Tyler's eyes turn yellow? Caroline: They were more gold with amber highlights.
I'm pointing out these random little conversations Caroline has with Damon because her hate doesn't come out until Elena falls for him, and it gets worse when she finds herself attracted to Klaus. So yes, she's perfectly fine with Damon here. "A bite from a werewolf can kill a vampire, so don't be his friend! Do you understand me?" Damon is extremely protective of her, and I feel this is rooted in his friendship with Liz. I'll show what I see in the cut when I get to 2x13. "If you want to drop the hint to your mom, that Aimee's body is at the bottom of a ravine with a cracked spine. Might save your mom some time." lol… well at least this was one of Katherine's kills.
Tyler is at school, carrying guilt for killing Sarah while looking at missing photos of Aimee. He has no idea that vampires exist, he's gonna assume Caroline is a werewolf. I think it's fantastic what the writers did with Tyler and Caroline. Similar to Stefan when he was in transition and Caroline breaking bottles at the carnival, Tyler is unaware of his own strength. He breaks the lock off his locker without even trying. Jeremy and Stefan realize that Elena is missing. Not just missing, but missing since the masquerade ball because her car is still parked at the Lockwood estate.
I love the lighting in this house where Trevor and Rose are staying. Lit this way because they don't have daylight jewelry. This is a great set to film. The boarding house is a great set, but I love it for Damon's bathroom because I'm a sucker for nice bathrooms. Black clothes, black shades, black gloves, black hat. Trevor look like a badass in his lack of daylight jewelry. Like the brothers, he imagines what Elena tastes like because she looks like Katherine. Rose stops him from sinking his teeth in. Yeah, probably best you don't feed on your ticket to freedom. "Buzzkill." lol… he already sounds like Damon. Rose takes a Damon-like approach. She doesn't want to captor bond with Elena because if she starts to care, she'll give up her freedom to save her. Woman wants her freedom, so she slaps Elena hard enough to put her out.
Stefan can't make up his mind. It's as if he's trying to put Elena's disappearance completely on Damon. He does that a lot... assumes the worst of Damon. He tries to blame him for not putting Katherine in the tomb, to which Damon ensures he put her in the tomb. Stefan then tries to blame him for not taking Katherine's threat seriously, to which Damon explains he doesn't know when to believe her or not because she lies. When Stefan finally accepts the reality that Elena's disappearance isn't on Damon, he believes he can get information from Katherine to rescue her. Obvious that Stefan isn't thinking clearly. Hand Damon a plan that makes sense, and he'll be all for it. He's not gonna turn to Katherine for help because he knows it's pointless.
Caroline starts acting shady with Tyler, pretending like she has no idea he's a werewolf. I feel it's the worst time to play with Tyler, honestly. He finds out that he's supernatural after spending episodes dragging it out of Mason. Now that he's triggered his curse, Mason is gone and he has no one. That's not something he should go through alone, and he's getting upset that Caroline is forcing him to go it alone.
Elena: Who's Elijah? Rose: He's your worst nightmare.
Elena tries to sneak out of the house to escape just like she did with Ben and Anna. Trevor and Rose are an older, stronger duo. Rose warns her that there isn't anything around for miles, so she has nowhere to run. Elena is naive to the fact that neither vampire has daylight jewelry, so she has no idea that they can't leave the house without sheilding themselves as Trevor did. Like Damon, I fell in love with Elijah from the moment he appeared on screen. He's everything I imagine a vampire would be. "Yeah, but Damon's right. She's not gonna tell you anything, not without something in return." Damon is almost always right. Sometimes he's right even when he's wrong, that's how often he's right. Stefan is asking Bonnie to remove the spell on the tomb when that's the entire reason her grams died. Like what? Just as idiotic is the fact that Stefan can think of doing a locator spell when Elena is with Damon in 1x11, but he can't think to do a locator spell in 2x8? Bonnie is the one that has to come up with the idea. Like seriously? I'm glad they didn't write Damon to be this stupid. Bonnie uses Jeremy's blood to do a locator spell on Elena. They're biological cousins, so his blood works. Stefan is bothered just by the sight of Jeremy's blood. He's such a blood junkie. Bonnie's nose starts bleeding because she's using too much power.
"It's Elena." Damon has no problem with good plans. But no, he doesn't want Katherine out of the tomb lol. Tyler is playing basketball when he catches sight of Caroline. omg these confrontations are insane. When he grabs her, she physically assaults him. He's like… you're stronger than me? lol uh, yeah. Tyler is getting pissed because no one will be honest with him, and he's alone in it.
It takes Elena getting abducted for these brothers to take a road trip together even though Damon asked for one back in 1994. So yeah, you can already see how she's bringing them together. Again, Stefan assumes the worst of Damon. "Oh, come on Damon. We both know that you being in this car has absolutely nothing to do with me anyway." I consider him an ass that way most of the time. Why can't Damon be taking that trip for both reasons. Surely Stefan doesn't think he'll rescue Elena by himself.
Stefan also acts an ass about the pros of Damon being in love with Elena. He's basically admitting that he benefits from Damon being in love with her because that means Damon will be helping him protect his girlfriend. But so you know, it's also the beauty of Stefan losing Elena. The problem with Stefan is that he wants to benefit in all ways. He knows that by respecting Elena's choice, she's gonna die by drowning in 3x22. And it's because of Damon's blood that she's gonna survive the drowning. He actually believes he should benefit from that, but he won't. If you let your girlfriend die, then you let your girlfriend die. Damon would rather Elena be alive than have her respect, put it that way.
In this episode, Stefan is literally benefitting from Damon being there because Elijah would've killed him, and Elena would still be handed over to Klaus. Damon being in love with Elena pisses Stefan off, so I have no idea why Stefan would push Damon to get emotional with him about it. The elephant in the room will become an issue later... in a scene where Stefan doesn't stand to benefit from Damon being in love with Elena. He's only happy with it on their road trip because he needs the help to save her.
What I like about Defan's road trip is their "beauty of" parallel. Damon can't walk away from Elena in 2x8 the way Stefan walked away from Damon in 1x5. It's the road trip vs the car wash. You'd have to look back through their scenes to find these parallels, but I will say that Delena is perfectly written in their Beauty of the Dark soundtrack.
Bonnie is so sweet. Jeremy is worrying about Elena, so she has him helping her do a spell to send Elena a message. It's a nice distraction for him. Her nose starts bleeding again, and she passes out when she finishes the spell. Jeremy tries to wake her. "Again with the questions. Haven't the Salvatores been teaching you your vampire history?" The Salvatores don't know about the Originals because Klaus compelled Stefan to forget.
"A hundred years back, a friend of mine tried to set me up with Stefan. She said he was one of the good ones. I'm more of a sucker for the bad boys, though, but I digress."
lol... Elena basically gets the same thing from Rose that she got from Isobel. Why Stefan, why didn't you go for Damon. Every time they use "suck" in their dialogues, I always consider the alternate meaning because vampires are bloodsuckers. So when Rose tells Elena she's more of a sucker for the bad boys... the same can be said for Elena.
"You're the key to breaking the curse." How insane it must be to find out you're the key to breaking a 1000+ year old curse, and breaking it requires you die. Tyler confronts Caroline in her house, slams her against the wall until she reveals her vampire self. That boy is terrified when he sees her fangs lol. They make their female vampires strong as hell, and I love it. "Doppelicious" is a good nickname for Elena, I actually like it. I feel sorry for Trevor and Rose, running for 500 years because of Katherine. With as many people as Katherine pissed off, I'm surprised she didn't have a team of vampires hunting her down. Bonnie is sweet. If Damon knew about Bonnie's weakness, he would protect her more than anything. Not to be rude, but he likes having a witch in his corner. In some ways, I view Bamon's friendship as I view Delena. Just as Damon makes Elena feel like anything is possible, I think Bonnie makes Damon feel like anything is possible. It's the difference in their powers, really. Damon is limited to vampire powers, Bonnie isn't.
Stefan has no idea that Damon is the reason Elena has been feeding him her blood. But Damon does now that Stefan told him. You have to compare this scene to the scene in 2x5 to see it. "I wonder if Elena would be so quick to open her veins to that guy." Ripper Stefan is written alongside 1864 Damon. Just in knowing this, fans should know what Damon does to Elena in season 3. "Yes, Stefan, exactly. Back when you put blood into me so I could be a big bad vampire." This is why Stefan apologizes to Damon at the end of the episode… though not the only reason. I'll explain at the end of the episode. "I guess he found something else to live for." Stefan had 145 years to find something else to live for. His character is beyond ridiculous to me.
Rose: Hey! What are we? Trevor: We're family, forever.
Trevor and Rose are so beautiful. Elena realizes they're scared. When you have 500+ year old vampires scared of a vampire… you have to know something's up. It's because they're scared of Elijah that Elena is scared of Elijah. Elijah was my reason to watch The Originals. I love him almost as much as I love Damon.
Rose: I have her doppelgänger. Elijah: That's impossible, her family line ended with her. I know that for fact.
I always refer to this scene because if not for the tomb being opened, no one would've known about Elena. Technically, Stefan is the reason they found out Katherine survived because he's the reason all the vampires got out. Once those vampires got out, word spread of her suvival. So yes, if not for Stefan going into the tomb, Sheila wouldn't have dropped the seal. Poor Rose doesn't consider Elijah's words because he is a man of his word. He said he would pardon her. He didn't say he would pardon Trevor. This is something Elena picks up on pretty early. "Human. It's impossible."
Damon: Wait, I got a lot more experience than you do with those sorts of things. Stefan: What is your point?
Damon is reasonably terrified of going in to face a vampire that's older than Katherine, more in knowing that they just barely survived her. But that's not Damon's initial point. He flat-out told Stefan that he has more experience with this sort of thing. Stefan plans to storm the place without a plan and without care to his own life. Great to save Elena, but that doesn't require dying. "I can't think of a better reason to die, but if you want to stay here, I'll totally understand." So Stefan again assumes the worst of Damon. In truth, it's not about Damon dying, it's about Damon dying when surviving is just as easy with a plan. Stefan is going in half-cocked like he can't spend five minutes talking strategy... which was the entire reason Bonnie's grams ended up dying ffs. All it took was Elena screaming, and he went in half-cocked like he needed to. It's for this reason, Stefan is likely to die. Just as Damon is emotionally impulsive, Stefan is heroically impulsive. He doesn't think, he doesn't plan, he just does. That's why he was the one that suggested they get help from Katherine to find Elena, and pushed it with Bonnie even though Damon was right. In going after a vampire that even Katherine is terrified of, probably best to have a plan. Otherwise they'll die and lose Elena anyway because they're dead, but Stefan doesn't think that far ahead.
"Please, don't let him take me." This is why Rose wanted Elena to be quiet. She started to care, now she's having a hard time.
They're lucky she dies from a werewolf bite. She would've changed the game, and that's me being honest. Their ages go like this... Rose is older than Pearl, Pearl is older than Katherine.
Elena tries to leverage the moonstone for her freedom. "What is this vervain doing around your neck?" lol… so much for your protection, Stefan. I always refer to this scene whenever I talk about Damon. If he wanted to compel Elena, he could have at any time.
"Excuse me. To whom it may concern. You're making a great mistake if you think that you can beat me. You can't. Do you hear that? I repeat, you cannot beat me. So I want the girl. On the count of three, or heads will roll. Do we understand each other?"
OMG he's fantastic. I can't help but love him. Damon is busy keeping Rose busy... the sucker for bad boys and the bad boy.
I love Damon's eyes here.
Stefan pulls a football ram on Elijah. When Elijah goes in for the kill, Damon steps in and stakes him with the wooden rack Elijah planned to use on them. Yeah... Damon saves Stefan. You then get a stairwell scene to coincide with Damon's signature moment, the Miss Mystic pageant. And of course, this pretty part...
Jeremy and Bonnie are laying in bed, waiting for Elena to come home. tbh, I'm not a fan of the Jeremy/Bonnie ship. I actually hate them together. But I love the Gilbert sibling hugs.
"You know what? I've never said it out loud." This Defan scene with Stefan's apology pushes Damon's scene with Elena. If he compels it from her memory, then it's as if he never said it out loud. This is where I point out what I was talking about earlier. Stefan is never about Damon. He's about Damon when it's convenient for him. When he apologizes to Damon in 1x14, it's all about finding Elena. When he apologizes to him in this scene, it's all about protecting Elena. Even when he gets the cure for Damon, he leaves town to protect Elena. They even tarnish the hell out of his sacrifice in the series finale. It's not about Damon, it's about Bonnie and Enzo. Stefan never does for Damon simply to do something for his brother. It's always a dual thing for him. So anyway... Damon is gonna take his selfish moment with Elena just as Stefan took his selfish moment with Damon in 1864.
It's a shame that Caroline has to lie to Tyler to protect Damon and Stefan. She's really trying to help him, yet she's not actually helping him. It's such a difficult position to be in, you know?
"Lexi once told me that you're one of the good ones." Rose reveals that it was Lexi who tried to hook her up with Stefan. That's your open and close of the episode. "A hundred years back, a friend of mine tried to set me up with Stefan. She said he was one of the good ones. I'm more of a sucker for the bad boys, though, but I digress." Rose talks to Stefan because, well... Damon is at Elena's house. But also because he's the bad brother, so she's not sure what to make of him yet. Better she talk to the good brother. Once Damon staked Elijah, Elena had to stop him from going after Rose. But yeah, Rose admitted she knows of them, but she doesn't know them. You can see the obvious differences in Damon. He cares more about Rose abducting Elena than he did with Anna abducting Elena. He hadn't fallen in love with her yet. That's why he's willing to kill Rose simply for abducting Elena lol. So Rose is there to tell Stefan it's not over. It's just getting started.
"I don't need your help, but I think you need mine. Elijah may be dead, but this isn't over. It isn't over. The originals, they'll come for her. They have to. They're doing it for him. Klaus."
Rose is so damn fantastic. She's there to help protect Elena, period.
Damon's not gonna let what happened with Katherine happen with Elena, so he can't be selfish with her. It's because he can't be selfish with Elena that he compels her to forget. The compulsion itself, a selfless act. He leaves her with only one thing... the necklace that represents hope for her and Stefan. If you don't know why I'm saying all this, I'll make it real simple... Elena basically relives her birthday on her deathday by remembering this compulsion. That's why he cries when he compels her. "I knew how much it hurt him. But he did it."
I feel the soundtrack and the kiss on the forehead is all about 2x1. And they switch it up. In this scene, it's Damon's soundtrack. When she remembers it in 4x1, it's Elena's soundtrack. Damon's selflessness is specific. He's not gonna let Elena come between him and his brother the way Katherine did... which is the point. It isn't Damon who lets Elena come between them, it's Stefan. That's why you get this...
Stefan: We let Katherine come between us. If we let that happen with Elena, we're not gonna be able to protect her. Klaus: You know, Stefan blames me for trying to tear him from his brother. But I think we both know who really came between them. You.
Damon will be able to protect her BECAUSE he didn't let her come between them. That's what Dr. Fell is for. What you eventually get is two fake deaths... Katherine's, then Elena's. Just as Klaus gets his hands on Katherine in season 2, he gets his hands on Elena in season 3.
Yeah, that kill was too easy lol... get ready for the Originals.

join the sleepover!
"Shh, you don't want the others to hear, do you?" Adrian had one hand clamped over your mouth, the other holding your leg up against his side as he fucked into you in the dark room.
The team was meeting for a brief, but unbeknownst to them, you two had shown up an hour early and decided the best way to spend your time was fucking in the storage closet. You both blamed daylight savings time.
Your arms were coiled around his back, digging into the fabric of his costume, one of your hands also gripping his mask.
Shaking your head, you swallowed the moans that came with each slow, hard thrust.
"Okay, I believe you." He pulled his hand from your mouth, and you were quick to bury your head against him, biting the space near his shoulder to quiet yourself.
Adrian clamped his mouth shut when you did that, his own whines sitting in his throat as he fucked you.
He pet your head with his gloved hand, bucking his hips up and in and excruciatingly slow. Hitting your center with each agonizing, full thrust.
You clawed at his back, scrunching the fabric tighter and tighter as he brought you closer to your finish. It was always better for you when he went slow like this, when you could feel the need he had for you, and watch the control he was exhibiting by the look on his face.
Adrian was always torn between wanting to fuck you senseless and wanting to be inside you for as long as possible.
Now, though, you were pretty sure your time was coming to a close when you could hear Chris grumble "Where the fuck are those clowns?" from the main room.
"Fuck me faster, Adrian. Please." You knew you needed to hurry up, but also you just wanted Adrian to give in and fuck you the way he wanted.
He obliged, thrusting up faster and harder, and you had to bite down deeper on his outfit, drool soaking into the fabric.
This time it was Adrian who was having a hard time being quiet, and you tapped him on the back to get his attention.
He pulled away from you, letting your leg down and staring at you with his eyes pleading and his dick twitching between your bodies.
You slid to your knees and took him in his mouth, one of his hands flying to your hair to knot it around his fingers.
"Oh," He whispered, "Good girl—that's a good fucking girl."
He watched you work on him, your tongue sliding around his tip, one hand squeezing the base of his shaft.
You took his entire length in your mouth, sliding back and forth and stopping to suck around his head.
Adrian had already been close when he was fucking into you, struggling to keep quiet, and now you tasted the precum that barely had a chance to dribble out before you were lapping it up.
You pursed your lips around his head, continuing to suck as he struggled to shut up.
"I'm gonna fucking—"
He didn't even finish before he was finishing in your mouth.
You swallowed his orgasm, and tucked his dick back into his costume with a gentle pat, standing up to give him a small kiss and fix your own outfit.
The two of you snuck out of the closet and walked to the back door, opening it and shutting it as loud as possible.
"Hey, team!" Adrian waved a hand at them, his other one holding yours.
They all looked at you with their arms crossed.
Chris pointed firmly at you two.
"Cut the shit, we saw the Sebring when we all got here."
Well, fuck.

admin... please write 'Mukami Ruki Daylight fake good end' 💔
Daylight Vol. 7 – Fake Ending
After we arrived home, I accompanied her to our private room. Despite her good health today, I ordered her to rest. I was about to go prepare something to eat when she suddenly embraced me tightly.
Ruki wrapped his arms around her.
Ruki: "I see that a simple kiss really wasn't enough for you. Your sudden embrace tells me everything. You seek my attention and I'm more than willing to give you what you are looking for. I make those fantasies of yours come to live now."
That was the last time I could give her my attention as lover. Since that day, her health has steadily deteriorated. She was no longer able to leave the bed. Afflicted by the fear of losing her forever, I never left her side for a moment. I was preparing to leave this world together with the woman I love. While she slept most of the day, I held her hand and read my books to her. My thought was that she would hear my voice and then knew she wasn't alone. As I read to her, my brothers suddenly came to mind.
Ruki: "I wonder if my brothers received my letter. I'm really surprised that there hasn't been any reaction from them so far. Did they just accept my decision like that?"
Ruki continued reading.
Another day of agonizing waiting passed. Gradually I was at the end of my strength and put the book I was reading to her aside. Suddenly I heard a loud noise. I struggled to get up to see what was causing this rumble. Feeling guilty about leaving her side for that brief moment, I ran straight into my brothers' arms.
Ruki looked surprised.
Azusa: "Ruki! You are...fine!"
Full of despair Azusa closed me in his arms. Kou came closer and glared at me angrily. He was so agitated that his magic eye shone continuously.
Kou: "How dare you! And then just a letter? You don't even have the courage to tell us this stupid decision to our faces? I'm really disappointed in you. My brother is a coward. He just gives up. And that after everything we've been through together..."
Azusa: "Kou... We said...we wouldn't...blame him."
Kou: "Let him know what we're thinking. If he wants to leave this world like a coward, let him do it knowing that we don't agree."
Azusa: "But...Kou..."
Ruki put his hand on Azusa's shoulder.
Ruki: "Azusa, leave him. He has every right to be angry. But I would still like to explain it to you. Face to face."
After describing the situation and my feelings about it, I wrapped the two in an embrace. With a broken voice, Kou started cursing.
Kou: "I won't let that happen. You're not just gonna take the easy way and leave us here alone. We forgave you for leaving the house with M-neko-chan. But I won't forgive you if you really do this."
Azusa: "Calm...down Kou. Yuma...will be there...soon...and then...everything...will be fine."
Ruki looked confused at Azusa.
Ruki: "Yuma? Where is he? What are you going to do?"
Kou: "Unlike you, we didn't just give up. We've been looking for a solution. And we have a plan."
Kou's words hit me hard. It hurt to hear what he thought of me. I couldn't hide my disappointment and raised my voice against him.
Ruki: "So you really think I didn't look for a solution myself? Do you honestly think I would just give up the love of my life without a fight? But how can I save a dying person? What kind of plan is that supposed to be? Tell it to me! I would do everything to not lose her!"
???: "Really everything? You would really go that far for this troublesome woman? What a drag."
Ruki turned around and looked surprised at Yuma and Shu.
Ruki: "ーー!! Sakamaki Shu!! What are you doing here?"
Shu: "Your annoying brother decided not to leave me alone until I help you guys."
Yuma: "Tchーー It wasn't easy getting his lazy ass out here."
Ruki: "And why exactly is Shu here now?"
Shu: "I always thought you were a smart guy. I'm surprised you didn't come up with this idea yourself."
Ruki: "Good grief... What idea? Can someone please explain to me what's going on here."
Azusa: "Shu will...turn...Eve."
Ruki opened his eyes wide in shock.
Ruki: "Whーー!? Turn!?"
Kou: "If you had let us know about M-neko-chan's health sooner, you would have been spared a lot of grief."
Ruki: "Butーー"
Azusa: "First...we wanted...to ask Karlheinz-sama...for help. But...we already owe...him so...much. So...we asked...Shu...to do it."
Ruki: "Karlheinz-sama will never forgive us for this betrayal. If Shu turns her, his plan will be destroyed. And you want to make his eldest son and heir an impostor too?"
Ruki looked at Shu doubtfully.
Ruki: "Besides that... Why would you do this for her and me? You would get no benefit from it."
Shu: "Who says I don't get any benefits from this? This is how you can create loyal subordinates. And I don't care about his plan. Also, this project failed one way or the other. Either she dies or I turn her now. Your decision."
Yuma: "What you were planning is cowardly. Where has your fighting spirit gone?"
Kou: "You won't leave us here alone."
Azusa: "Ruki... You love...Eve. You...made a vow...before God. You both...deserve...to have...a happy life...together."
Ruki: "Haah... Spending eternity together with the woman I love..."
Ruki looked seriously at Shu.
Ruki: "Well... Shu is right. Karlheinz-sama's project failed. Nevertheless, I hope that he will also recognize this fact and forgive us this betrayal at some point. So... Sakamaki Shu. Turn her. If you do it, I will forever be in your debt."
Shu: "A wise decision. Where is she? I finally want to get this over with. I'm tired and want to sleep."
Ruki: "She's in the bedroom. I'll take you to her."
The day I feared so much had now come. Her heart stopped beating. But it wasn't the end. Biting his wrist, Shu shared his blood with her. And brought back the woman I loved so much from the brink of death. She was no longer human. Her warmth was gone. But her love for me remained. That day, Shu didn't just save her life. He saved mine too. Once again I received the favor of such a powerful being. I swore my allegiance to him and from then on I always stood by his side. My brothers forgave me for wanting to go the easy way without them. Karlheinz-sama didn't accuse any of us of betraying. He immediately understood that his project had failed. Still, I could see a glimmer of hope in his eyes. I was sure that he had already made new plans. She and I celebrated our wedding together with our family according to human tradition. In the presence of witnesses we said our vows again. More than happy I embraced her in my arms. Now I no longer had to be afraid that she would leave me. She was mine. Forever.
The End

Hi seeing as you seem to be the only sorta active britin blog I can find lol I wanted to ask you about some of your favourite moments for them, as I'm kinda new to the fandom whatevers around lol, and would like to hear peoples thoughts on them if you don't mind answering 😊
Hey there! Sorry I am answering so late, but WOW this is a big ask because there are SO many favorite moments.
So I have narrowed it down to my Top 5:
1. Prom (obviously)
Okay this is a no-brainer. This is literally the most romantic sequence in all of television history. I still have not found something more beautiful, moving, triumphant, loving, and groundbreaking than when Brian and Justin danced to 'Save the Last Dance for Me' at prom. Obviously barring the horrific events of what followed, this scene transcended all stereotypes and barriers and allowed us as the viewers to feel pure happiness and pride as queer people. I remember seeing it for the first time at 14 and feeling so unadulteratedly happy and validated. This was a scene of two gay people unapologetically showing the world that they did not give a shit what anyone thought of them. The only thing that mattered was this thing between them; this unspoken understanding, solace, love, and pride. I still moves me to this day whenever I watch it, no matter how many times I do.
And of course we must talk about the implications of Brian's character in this scene. Throughout season 1, he has been an emotionally stunted and cold individual who does not believe in love, relationships, or trying to make other people happy. Here, in the finale, we see Brian finally putting away all his ego bullshit ("I wouldn't be caught dead in a room full of 18 year olds"), and going out of his way to make someone he cares about happy. The fact that he even showed up at Justin's prom is a direct U-turn from the moral principles he has been reinforcing all season. And by dancing to a "ridiculously romantic" corny song, waltzing, and kissing Justin in front of everyone without giving a shit — that is pride. That is one of Brian's long-accustomed walls tumbling down.
"And don't forget whose taking you home and in whose arms you're gonna be..."
2. When they make love for the first time after the bashing
Now these scenes...how do I describe the sheer profundity? After Justin's bashing at prom, Brian is left in shambles. He blames himself for everything, and it is just further proof that Brian's love always causes further destruction. Justin has lost all memory of that night at prom, and this is one of the big tragedies. Justin had promised that he'd never forget it, and that it was the best night of his life. That proof of Brian's love that he had for so long been longing to experience — has disappeared as if it never happened. Now, Justin's confidence and surety of the world has been distorted. He is no longer sure of anything, including himself and Brian. He needs reassurance and things spelled out for him.
When Brian and Justin sleep together for the first time after the bashing, it is not like all the other times they had sex. This, in fact, is the first time they make love. Justin is telling Brian that he trusts him wholeheartedly, enough to allow him in his body again after his own agency had been ripped away from him. This is where Justin absolves Brian of his guilt. He takes the blood-stained scarf off his shoulders, lets it fall to the ground. He gives Brian the forgiveness that Brian cannot offer himself.
"Like the first time?" Brian asks, because it is the anniversary of their first meeting, but at the same time—it is nothing like the first time. Now, they are not strangers. They are more acquainted with each other than they have ever sought to be; know each other in such profound depths. They are forever linked by this thing they have both experienced, but it is not just that shared trauma. It is based off deep understanding and love. They have, somehow along the way, become more each other than themselves. They know that they have become irreplaceable and inseparable parts of each other. And Brian has been holding onto that guilt for so long that it has become rooted deeply within him. SO when Justin absolves him of it, Brian allows himself to truly feel for the first time since the bashing. He gives himself to Justin, in that moment, as Justin gives himself to Brian. It is a brilliant and tender scene of trust, devotion, acceptance, and absolution. Something they both needed to soothe their troubled souls, and a new basis for their relationship.
3. When Brian helps Justin walk down the street after the bashing
Again, this is Brian showing nurturing, care, patience, compassion, and selflessness to another person. Justin trusts him enough to rely on him, and Brian doesn't take this trust lightly. These are some of the sweetest scenes of the whole show, because this is when Brian is completely focused and devoted to Justin. He wants to help him, more than anything, to get better. And he accepts and takes up this role of carer, not because he has to, or because he is obligated or forced to. But because he will do anything to ensure that Justin will be okay, and that he gets the life he deserves.
Specifically, my favorite scene is when the song 'Grand pianos crash together, when my boy walks down the street...' is playing. Justin is walking through a crowd and Brian has his arms outstretched. When they come together, they hug deeply and easily. This scene is so simple and pure, so chaste, but it shows the true essence of their relationship, beyond all the facades and bells and whistles. At the heart of it, Brian and Justin care about each other more than they care about themselves. They have established a stable foundation of trust that they can rely on. And it also perfectly encapsulates just how far Brian has come once again. He is showing such selfless care and devotion to a boy in public daylight, kissing and hugging him and not wanting to let go of his hand. Season 1 Brian would have never even considered that. This just shows how much the events of the prom changed him, and shows how his desire for responsibility of another person has matured him. He had been forced to face his inner feelings, fears, and truths. Now, they are out in the open for the first time and Brian accepts this. This alone is a huge development.
Brian is also afraid to let go of Justin. When Justin says he can walk back himself and says 'Later,' Brian repeats it apprehensively as he holds Justin's hand until he can't anymore. Then, he watches Justin go, walking through the crowds. The look on his face is wistful, a little troubled. He hasn't wanted to face just how much he enjoys Justin's presence and how much happier and content he is when Justin is with him. He hasn't wanted to face just how afraid he is to lose Justin again. Their words of 'Later' are a direct mirror of their last words on prom night, just before Justin got bashed. Brian had watched Justin walk away, too. And a second later, he was gone.
4. Pride
This is probably one of my all-time favorite scenes in television ever. I have cried each time I've seen it. There is something so pure, essential, liberating, triumphant and tender about this scene, and the song that plays (Chiquitita by ABBA) certainly shows it. Firstly, Justin accepts Brian in his entirety and doesn't expect him to change. He knows how much Brian has been devoting to Justin in his recovery, and how strange that role is for Brian. Here, he tells Brian to 'go find a stud, ask him to dance,' — because he knows how much Brian has been sacrificing for him. This alone shows Justin's maturity and inner strength. He loves Brian, so he will not try to change him or shackle him. He wants Brian to be free to choose and live the way he wants, and that is what he fell in love with.
But when Justin shows this sacrifical and detached love for him, Brian realises that there is nothing he wants to do; no one he wants to be with more — than Justin. He is aware of the myriads of choices he has. But he chooses Justin. (Technically, for the first time, perhaps aside from prom. But even at prom, he had been running from something [turning 30]. Here, he chooses Justin without pressure for the first time.)
So, he follows him outside. He ask him "Hey, stud. Wanna dance?" Justin doesn't believe him at first, because he is not used to Brian choosing him by his own volition. He cannot imaging Brian passing up getting laid, especially after being celibate for the whole day. He also feels like a burden; like Justin's recovery has been inflicted on Brian, stopping him from living his life normally. Justin loves Brian enough to let him be free, but the biggest part? Brian loves Justin enough to choose him in that freedom.
So this marks another checkpoint in their relationship. Not only is there trust, understanding, and love — there is also desire. Sure, they have always desired each other. But this desire is not the physical kind or one born out of loneliness. This is desire for the other person as a whole. This is desiring another person's company because theirs is the only company you want. This is desiring to be with someone when there are so many other options. This is real desire — the kind that originates from the heart and not the flesh.
"I promise you won't forget this one." Brian is promising Justin that this dance will be theirs, just theirs. Not to stick it to anyone, to show anyone anything, to make some kind of point, or to make somebody happy. This dance is theirs, for the reason that Brian wants Justin to have this: this moment where Brian only wants Justin, where he dances with him simply because he wants to. And he wants Justin to have this memory, to overcome all the vague blurriness of their past. He wants this dance to be the one he remembers when he questions himself. And so they dance, and they sway, and they kiss, and they press their heads together, and the lights are bright and colored on Liberty Avenue, and everywhere people are free and joyful, and there is nothing to prove, no one to run from, nothing to hide. Their arms are wrapped around each other and the sound of 'You'll be dancing once again...and the pain will end...you will have no time for grieving...' tumbles through the air and all around them. 'But the sun is still in the sky and shining above you.' Now: there is nothing to be afraid of, and everyday life is full of reasons to be alive. To be proud.
5. Their reunification
This is one of their main checkpoints. This scene is the moment they finally become equals. Justin had left Brian for the reason that Brian could not give him what he needed to be happy, which was: reassurance. After the bashing, Justin lost all sense of who he was. There was a huge gap in his memory, therefore a huge part of himself he could not claim. He had lost partial use of his dominant hand which took away the only thing that gave him solace; his drawing ability. He was no longer sure of anything and needed things spelled out for him. He needed to talk about it.
But Brian was not willing to do that, because he himself was struggling with trauma from the incident that he did not want to face. Where his love language is in acts of service (letting Justin live with him, paying for his tuition, helping him recover) — Justin needed to hear the words. He needed verbal affirmation to prove that he wasn't crazy and just projecting his feelings onto Brian. He could no longer trust his own perception and interpretation of things whereas in the past he could read Brian's mixed signals easily without needing confirmation. This is the part Brian failed to understand. He was not willing to concede his identified notions of 'relationships' and 'love' — no matter how far he came. He had not accepted that his feelings for Justin were love, and that scared him. So he refused to compromise with Justin, believing that his actions were enough when they weren't. But all Justin needed was to be heard, and for someone to love him enough to give hime what he needed sometimes (which was, verbal and emotional affirmation).
So their relationship ended, and Justin thought he could get what he needed from Ethan, which proved to be another big lie. So at the end, Justin still cannot trust his own perception, but — he finally knows what he wants.
He comes to the realization that while Brian could not give him the words, he gave him honesty. He learned from Ethan that words without action had no meaning. So he prioritized what mattered more to him: hearing that Brian loved him? Or, knowing that Brian loved him. So he chose honesty.
And this is when they could get back together without that imbalance and insecurity.
"And you are never to play violin music in my presence again." This single line is the only thing Brian needed to say to indicate to Justin that he was hurt by Justin leaving. Brian has been putting up a front of indifference for their entire break up, only indulging in pain management in private. Justin leaving him irrefutably hurt him more than he could have ever anticipated. But he did not show it.
So, Justin smiles — a little nod of awareness — because that is all Brian needed to say. And he says, "I promise."
"And it's time...that we...grow old and so some shit..." plays in the background (Lover's Spit) as they start to undress each other, because they are now on the same playing field. They have no illusions, misunderstandings, and misinterpretations anymore. They are starting anew; a little older and a little wiser than before. Brian knows how painful it is to lose Justin. Justin knows how skewed his perception had been, because he had been so caught up in his isolation that he could not see the truth of Brian's actions.
But they both know at least one thing: that life is better together than apart.
Tbh I could go ON and write a dissertation about each of these individual scenes, but I hope this made sense and gave a little more insight on these scenes and characters. Thank you for the great question!

You know what always bugged me about Jaune attacking Oscar (aside from the obvious)? It felt like he took advantage of the fact that Oscar was a defenseless child. I doubt he'd have the gall to attack Ozpin in his previous body. Now with Qrow on the other hand, I'm not too sure. One of his more consistent traits is picking fights when he shouldn't.
I don’t know, Jaune didn’t have any trouble charging at Cinder, or lashing out at Qrow around the campfire (though he didn’t attack him physically.) It seems like Jaune was willing to lash out at anyone who might have possibly sort of contributed to Pyrrha’s choice and he seemed more controlled by his grief more than logic or power complex. Idk, thinking he’d be just as physical with adult Professor Ozpin doesn’t seem too far off base. He was pretty illogical. Like, not trying to throw shade. And he did get it right to blame Cinder, obviously, although I feel like Jaune of all people charging at Cinder should’ve resulted in more injury to him than it did. His actions were frustrating, but were at least understandable for someone (especially a teenager) dealing with grief. But Oscar deserved a sincere apology from him and I’m so glad we started moving on from that.
...If Penny’s death triggers an ‘aggressive Jaune trying to find someone to blame and lashing out at everyone 2.0′ I’ll be very annoyed.
As for Qrow, I didn’t think he’d punch Oz at all before it happened and it confused the living daylights out of me. His fight with Winter was when he was seemingly in a pretty good mood and it seemed like a mutual grudge match he was more or less enjoying. And even though Winter seemed to take it much more seriously, there were moments where she was acting like it wasn’t all that serious too.
Qrow Vs Winter really read like an anime fight where you knew the stakes were low and they weren’t really out to hurt each other - and the person that actually got the closest to breaking that feeling was Winter. Qrow’s other conflicts like his spat with James and his arguing with Raven, those were all verbal fights. Qrow and Winter was (if I recall correctly) the only time we saw him actively get physical with an ally or even a former ally who hadn’t revealed themselves to be working with Salem yet, and again, Winter was the one who first started trying to deal blows and she’s the one who seemed more violent.
I mean, this is Qrow with Raven pre-her working with Salem.
And this is Qrow when she showed up at Haven with Cinder to help her steal the Relic.
So the understanding I at least was working with was that Qrow - while prone to arguments and being rude and disrespectful - wasn’t just a violent person. He fought with Winter because they had some messed up understanding linked to their school-rival-like relationship, and she was the exception, rather than the rule. Outside of her, he only seemed to get physical when the situation demanded a fight.
So Qrow just punching an ally - and longtime friend - because it’d been revealed that he’d lied to Qrow - albeit, about an important detail - seemed really out of left field for me considering the prior established thresh-hold of who he’s willing to attack. Qrow didn’t even reach for a weapon with Raven in the bar while she was getting in the way of Oz’s life saving plans out of selfishness and cowardice and being dismissive of Yang’s pain to his face plus acting kind of aggressively herself. But he was ready to shoot her the minute he thought she had gone to Salem. But Oz wasn’t revealed as having done some horrible, evil, non-understandable thing. He was revealed to have lied out of desperation about something admittedly important in his effort to do what he could to save people. Although I would’ve liked Qrow to take his side from the beginning, it makes sense for his character to have been mad, upset, and to have lashed out. Like I said before, what Qrow is known to get into is serious verbal fights. But punching Oz? When Oz clearly wouldn’t defend himself? When he’s in a body of a child? When his abuse at the hands of Salem was just revealed? That so didn’t even feel like Qrow!
In my opinion, the punch wasn’t a trackable, Qrow-like reaction that made sense. The punch was what started the whole ‘Qrow is violent’ spiral. It was so out there that I had tried to come up with an explanation (like 'maybe there was an Apathy near by they just didn't know about?') And then I started trying to reason that Qrow seeming to slide into deeper depression and drinking heavier was because he felt super bad about it and he was going to give a big heartfelt apology in Volume 7 when Oz came back, which obviously didn't happen. And then the writers randomly had Qrow fight Clover with Tyrian and decide James was at fault for it and get determined to kill him for most of a season without even having gotten the whole story, plus picking fights with Harriet, only to try and talk her down in the next scene he's in?
Qrow punching Oscar felt like an isolated incident that I was willing to consider a really weird and bad mistake on the part of the creators without throwing out the character, but then in seasons seven and eight, he got more violent and less loveable. But confusingly, sometimes Qrow acts like he used to. He waffles between Good Qrow and Bad Qrow sometimes, and sometimes on a scene by scene basis. Good Qrow would totally try and talk Harriet down, whereas Bad Qrow would totally knock her to the ground and taunt her about getting that fight she wanted. It's so weird to see such disjointed writing that makes characters feel so back and forth. It’s not just Qrow, the CRWBY writers have a tendency to just write whatever they think feels valid in the moment without considering the larger character journeys, I think. And once they start hearing complaints, sometimes they double down, but sometimes they start trying to write their characters to act differently without addressing the flaw itself. Like having Yang act like Summer is her mom again, or having Blake suddenly acting like she's really close friends with Ruby, or having Winter suddenly act like she was against the things she’d been totally fine with last season. So there's every chance they're just gonna pretend Qrow never did the violent things he did, and never address the punch or how he helped fight Clover or how he wanted to kill Ironwood. It's possible season nine or ten will feature Qrow acting like his Volume 3 - 5 self again and the writers just expecting everyone to roll with it.
... I spent way too long talking about Qrow. XD Oh well.

Too drunk to fuck pt 10
♡ Part one| Previous
You couldn't believe it, that not even a month could go by without having to worry about Mark. You woke up several hours after you got that text, and couldn't help the way your heart sinked, you had to get up and shower with the coldest water to be ready for the upcoming long day, calling said unknown number to ask for an explanation.
“Who's this?” ask back as you make your way to the door.
“Y/N? It's Jisung! Do you not have my number saved?”
“Jisung, it doesn't matter right now!” although you knew that it would be a big complain from him later “What happened to Mark?”
“He's alright now... Do you want us to pick you up so you can see him?”
“Well, yes, that's why I called, but what happened?”
“Wait, I'll tell Jeno and Jaemin to pick you up, they must be close to your place now” and he hung up, avoiding the question you made him.
You sat on the sidewalk, waiting for the car to arrive, writing a text for your mom apologizing for leaving suddenly and so early. The streets were barely lighted by the daylight, but when you saw the car lights shining in your way, you knew immediately who it was, you stood up quickly and walked in their way, Jeno rolled the passenger window down and both him and Jaemin smiled sweetly at you, you almost forgot where you were going, and jumped in the back seat. The ride to the hospital was full of laughs, you even stopped in a convenience store to buy coffee and snacks because none of you have had breakfast. Jaemin parked and the tension in the air made its way back to the moment, suddenly feeling too awkward and guilty to hold hands with Jaemin when he started brushing his fingers on your palm while you three walked to the hospital.
You've never stepped in a hospital before, when you were younger you were over protected, you never got [physically] hurted, nor did you go with your parents when someone did have an emergency, and everything overwhelming; families waiting for news of their loved ones, people who looked in pain, doctors and nurses who probably went home crying from too many emotions at their work place, you couldn't even imagine how Mark would look laying in those uncomfortable beds.
“Mark Lee” Jaemin says walking to a lady in a counter
“Are you his family?” she says in a monotone way, not even turning to look at him “only his family is allowed to see him”
“His family doesn't leave here, I'm his roommate”
The lady types Mark's name, not questioning anymore, probably feeling compassion over that young boy being alone all night , having no one else for him than his friends, who had been annoying her since she started her shift. She tells him he's not taking visits, but he's gonna be allowed out in a couple hours.
Jaemin makes his way back to you and Jeno, both unsure of asking, he just sits in the waiting chairs, his body too tired, not from today, rather than everything becoming too much.
“I'm going out for a smoke, do you want to come?” his friend asks, noticeably stressed with the hospital environment, Jaemin looks at you and shakes his head, Jeno palms his back and rushes out.
“You should go, I can wait here” Jaemin can't help the grin forming in his face when he hears your voice, he thinks it's adorable how not even in a time like this he can't be unhappy if you're there.
“No, he's just-” he realizes he's spilling too much “he doesn't like hospitals”
“I mean, who does?” you sit next to him, placing your hand on his thigh “are you okay?”
Jaemin thinks of opening up, he trusts you and he knows you'd understand his emotions better than him anyway, he wonders if it's easier to lie and say he's alright, but tired, and eventually decides that whatever he says is useless anyway.
“Aw fuck, did you tell your parents you were coming?”
“I left a note, I told them Mark had an emergency and to call me when they read it”
“I shouldn't have brought you here, I shouldn't have brought you yesterday, I just keep dragging you into this mess, I'm sorry Y/N” he hadn't even realized himself how guilty he had been feeling, for the longest time, none of it was him, but he made it him anyway, he'd never been violent, neither did he enjoy the things he did, he just did them anyway, but after a couple years of losing himself, he forgot that too, and having someone that cared for him as much as you did, he felt guilty over making you a part of his life, over stealing Mark's chance, your chance to leave him and leave the whole thing, he never meant it, he'd never do that to you “I'll take you back, Jeno can wait here and-”
“You never even told me what happened” you cut him off and he wonders if you were able to listen to the rant on his head “no one has told me what happened and I hate making up scenarios of this, just tell me what happened, I'm gonna find out anyway” your voice was full of anger and fear, but you couldn't handle it any longer, you hated that feeling of being kept from the whole thing, it made you feel like they didn't trust you at all.
“He, uh, a lot happened, actually” he takes a deep breath as he dives in deeper waters of guilt “you saw him last night, we kinda got into an argument before you left, he's not himself when he's drunk, he's a good guy, you know, but, he got a little bit out of his mind, he had been drinking, he had been smoking with Jeno prior to that, and when we left he tried to leave too, he crashed, but that's not why he's here, he, uh, got up, too numbed to realize that he hurted his ankle and got some lines of coke, too many, actually, he got overdosed and they took him here” Jaemin didn't notice the moment tears started rolling down his cheeks, it was guilt that was swallowing him alive, thinking of how he was the root of every single problem they were having “I didn't know that, I didn't know he was doing all that in a single day, I didn't know he'd try to follow us, I would've taken his keys, I would've said sorry, I shouldn't have taken you there, I shouldn't even be talking to you right now”
And you can't help but cry when he does, knowing how emotional and empathetic Jaemin could actually be, knowing how he tends to take credit for everything that goes wrong, hell, he probably blames himself for climate change, and knowing how sorry and scared he must have been feeling.
“Jaemin, it's not your fault. Mark makes hus own choices, maybe all of them are bad, but those are his” you swipe away the tears off his face with your thumbs “you didn't force him to do any of that, and I know you mean so much more to each other than you say, but you can't keep taking everything he does just because he's broken or whatever you're telling yourself” but you noticed mid-sentence that this was something you needed to tell yourself too “I'm sure he's grateful for you, but you can't keep fixing his mess every single time”
He feels like a weight has been lifted off him, knowing that you can see him for him, you can see how he cares for Mark, and understands what you mean, but it doesn't feel right at all.
“Yeah, i know that” he sits straight again, he looks like he never had that breakdown “Anyway, he's alright now, somehow, do you want me to buy you some coffee?”
You spot Jeno coming back, probably just because it was cold outside. “No, but I could use a walk, the environment is weird here”
You stand up as Jeno makes his way to the chair next to Jaemin.
“Can you take a shift waiting? She's feeling sick and we're taking a break” Jaemin asks his best friend “or you can come, he's probably taking hours to be free, he can wait anyway”
Jeno shakes his head, assuring Jaemin that he'd rather be inside, and that Mark could get kicked out any minute if he was awake.
There's not much to see in the surroundings of a hospital, nor in the parking lot, but the pain of all those people, mixed with Jaemin's and your own was getting overbearing. Jaemin takes a cigarette in his mouth and skillfully lights it real quick, you try to remember if you've ever seen him smoking, but you couldn't remember, nor could you remember his car of his clothes smelling like he did. He's quick to finish it, taking big puffs and barely taking it away from his mouth. He noticed you were staring at him.
“Do you want one?” he forgot his whole lecture on why he was guilty over dragging you into his life and suddenly he remembered as he was sure you were about to say yes “please don't say yes, I didn't mean to offer you one, actually” but he takes out another one, places it on his mouth and lights it, too quickly.
You couldn't help it but remember Mark, because the truth was that anyone who met Mark, would never be able to leave without thinking about him, he was too special to forget. Yes, Jaemin was the sweetest person on Earth, and granted, you'd choose him any day over any other person, and that's why your heart sunk when you remembered what the days hiding in abandoned place with Mark were like, full of uncertainty, but exciting anyway, how his strong leather and tobacco scent would pierce into your nose for the whole day, how he'd make you feel when his fingers ran through your thighs. You loved Mark, you've loved him for a while now, but now you loved him in a different way, you told yourself. There was no use in comparing the two of them since they were absolutely opposite to each other, but you'd love to forget what you felt for Mark anyway.
You take Jaemin's hand on your own, stealing a puff of his almost finished cigar, blowing the smoke directly to his face and smile fondly when he laughs it off. Something about Jaemin always felt right. He throws the rest of it, not risking a burnt when as he rounds your back with his big arms. He could swear he sees a whole galaxy in your eyes, the way they shine is absolutely stunning and it makes him feel warm and fulfilled. He gets closer for a kiss, a sweet kiss, but with the taste of tobacco in his mouth, it becomes easy to forget where you are. You can feel someone walking in your direction as you get away from each other. Jeno and Mark are walking slowly to the car, you remember how Jaemin said he hurt his ankle and giggle at Jeno smiling at Mark's struggle. Both you and Jaemin walk to them, but Mark doesn't care at all, you expected him to be less of an ass by then, and he expected it too, knowing well how much everyone cared for him, but too bitter seeing Jaemin with you, convinced that it should be him who's kissing you and taking you out every Friday night.
Jaemin drives you all to Mark's place, you've never been there, and you don't want to be there either way, so you wait in the car while they make sure Mark can survive a couple hours alone, he can't help but feel defeated, owing his literal life to Jaemin but still pretty annoyed about his new relation. Jeno decides to stay with Mark, promising he'll call someone to take a shift later, and now Jaemin has a some more time alone with you.
Your mom was worried after she read that note, following your instructions and calling you as soon as she saw it.
“He's alright mom, he hurted his ankle, that's it”
“Are you sure? We can bring him something and pay him a visit”
“I think he is tired, besides, I want to spend some time with Jaemin, can I come home later?”
She agrees, too enchanted when Jaemin was mentioned, and diving more into the idea of you setting down with him. Boys were never a priority to you, and somehow it made her happy you were with him. You had already hung up when Jaemin came back to the car, not sure if he should ask you out on a spontaneous date or wait until you suggested it.
“Are you busy, like, right now?” you ask before he can decide on what to do
“Not really, why?”
“I don't know, I wanted to go out, but now I'm thinking I'm more in the mood for a movie at home”
“Do you want me to take you home?” you laughed at how naive he could be sometimes
“I want to go to your place” you confess “well if you don't mind it, maybe we could go to my room and cuddle there”
Jaemin thought of the scene: his mom would definitely be surprised, he couldn't remember if his room was clean, but he sure wanted his mom to meet you, he wanted to have dinner together, he wanted to show you the cool stuff gathered in his room. “Well, we can go to my place”

................................................
Any sign of the scepter?" Natasha was the one to ask this time, usually it was Steve and sometimes it was Tony. But they were both unusually quiet. not that you can blame them, Hydra goons surrounded Cap and shot at every part of his body they could see poking out from underneath the shield he was currently hiding under like a senior enhanced super turtle. Tony was much too busy hacking into their files to even notice Natasha asked him something.
Thor mumbled a quick "nothing" and continued taking down dozens of hydra agents with ease. Clint didn't have it that easy, every step he took some agent would fly at his throat. Hulk disappeared about half an hour ago and Natasha herself was taking down hydra's men like they were hungry teenagers and she had "made dinner at home."
Tony was typing code after code until his fingers hurt, then suddenly... power outage. The lights flickered for a second and then went out. He had been so close. now, it didn't matter, he wasn't gonna start over again he could just as well help Capsicle. "Smart move Cross, smart move..."
Except Steve, no-one noticed the power outage. He didn't mind however, he could use a distraction. He waited until all the soldiers stopped firing and quickly turned over so that now he was lying on his back. He waited a couple of minutes until one particularly stupid goon checked if he was dead. When the goon was hovering over his body, he kicked the shield up in his face and jumped to his feet. He catched the thing right in time before they started firing their guns. He ran at the nearest exit, hiding his face behind the shield and taking down anyone and everyone in his way. Once he was past the soldiers blocking the exit, he turned around and walked backwards until he reached the open doors leading to the labs. He knew this was the only entrance so he mentally cursed himself for not running down the hall instead.
He stopped in a blood stained cell, one single table in the middle. The table had four holes in it, under the table were four handcuffs with heavy weights. Whatever took place in this room, he did not want to know. He heard a loud noise right outside and hid behind the giant steel doors.
He saw something move and made some impressive move turning around and threw the shield at... "Tony!" Tony stumbled back before regaining control over the heavy armour. "Steve!" He mocked. Steve picked up his shield, somewhere deep inside he wished he had knocked the iron man unconscious. His annoyed voice echoed of the blood stained walls, "check the lab, I'm going to check for storage rooms."
Tony tilted his head and stared at steve. "What's it tony?"
"Do you really think the scepter is here, it sure as hell doesn't seem like it."
He was right, Steve knew that but they had to look for it at least. Tony took his silence as a sign to start his search. Twenty minutes and they gave up, it was as clear as daylight that the scepter wasn't here. Tony was ready to take flight when he noticed a crack in the wall next to him, it would've been normal in a place like this if the crack wasn't perfectly straight. He didn't even think before blasting the thick concrete wall, the dust made it impossible to see for a few seconds.
"Tony we're leaving now." He heard a tired voice groan, looks like they found Bruce.
He heard some commotion at the other side of his comms so he turned them off. To his annoyance there was still groaning, he checked the comms. Off, the groaning came from the dirty hole in the wall. He stepped in the tiny room, it was just big enough for two very small people. His helmet touched the ceiling and both his shoulders touched the walls. The room was dark and cold. It felt like he stood in a grave. The groaning was louder now, it was more like crying. But there was no one crying, maybe he really did just destroy a grave.
But he knew someone was in here, and that theory was proved right almost immediately.
"What the hell?"
......................................
"Tony, is- is that a child?"
He carried the small figure inside the quinjet and put her down on the seat next to bruce, he knew that he wouldn't judge. He knew that he wouldn't object.
A girl no older than 13 sat in the chair, knees up in an uncomfortable position.
Goldish red scales covered almost all of her arms, she had sharp fingernails and- and a long tail, swishing anxiously as everyone stared at the child before Clint loudly disrupted everyone's thoughts.
"What the fuck Tony, we left you alone for one hour!"
Thank you for reading, feedback is always welcome. I'll try to update the story as often as possible

Colter - Eastward Bound
Arthur had never been so happy to be moving. He, as well as the rest of the gang, were sick of the snow. The numbness, the insomnia, the brink famine, was all about to be left at Colter. His body craved sunshine and whiskey, which he hoped a town was closeby wherever they were going. He dismounted his horse as he met up with Dutch to discuss further plans.
"Oh, for Lord's sake! Put that book away and go help!" Miss Grimshaw barked within Arthur's earshot. It didn't take him long to figure out that she was scolding Mary-Beth Gaskill, one of the women in the camp who reminded him a lot of Lenny - she preferred reading or writing over robbing and killing, but could do so if need be. She was also one for romance, taking a liking to Arthur in particular, at least, that was the rumor. He had always thought that she liked how nice he was to her and nothing more than that.
"So, we getting out of this Hellhole?" Arthur asked as he joined Dutch and Hosea.
"We're gonna try, weather seems stable," Dutch assured.
"And we just robbed a Leviticus Cornwall train," Hosea added.
"We got money in our pockets...the worst is behind us, gentlemen! So the question is, where now?"
"I know this country a little," Hosea assured the worried leader. "I told you, we should set up camp in Horseshoe Overlook near Valentine. We'll be able to hide out there no problem as long as we keep our noses clean."
"Well then let's go! Clean noses and everything else!" Dutch commanded as he watched the rest of the gang load up the caravan. "Arthur, you're in that one, bring Hosea, I know you two like to talk about the good old days and what's wrong with old Dutch."
Arthur chuckled as he shook his head, following Dutch's orders as he loaded himself up onto the wagon, Hosea alongside him.
The caravan made its way slowly down the trail. The scenery of lush, white snow slowly turning to dewey green grass. The wind was still cold, though, as it still had a strong breeze, but to Arthur, even that was warm. He let his mind wander to where they were heading. Was there a town where he could have a hot meal other than Pearson's stew? Was there whiskey? Was there laying low for a long while instead of running? Was there hunting ground? Was there any more chances to run into Minnie Barlow? He shook the last question from his head, scolding himself for thinking of her and how he shouldn't think about her, but his mind continued to wander. There was something about her already that he needed to reassure himself on.
Arthur's thoughts were quickly interrupted by Dutch shouting from ahead, sighing a breath of relief that he was only shouting for Lenny and Micah instead of announcing there was trouble ahead.
"Lenny! Micah! Get over here!"
"Yes, boss?" Micah replied as he obeyed Dutch's command, along with Lenny.
"You two ride up ahead, make sure there's no surprises," Dutch ordered. "We've had enough of those."
"Me, with the boy?" Micah responded, almost insulted.
"Just go!"
"Come on, kid," Micah sighed as he spurred his horse into a lope. "You can buy me a whiskey!"
"Get us out the stream!" Hosea panicked as he felt the wagon shutter as they had now crossed into New Hanover. Arthur repeatedly tapped the harness leather across the horse's backs as they pulled the wagon through to the other side, only to be stopped by the rear left wheel buckling and keeping the wagon at a halt.
"Ah, shit!" Arthur shouted.
"Okay, let's take a look," Hosea sighed as he lept from the wagon, walking around the back.
"You alright back there?"
"Does everything look alright?" Arthur argued as he too dismounted from the wagon.
"Well, what's goin' on?" He heard Javier ask.
"I broke the goddamn wheel!" Arthur shouted, scolding himself.
"Alright, let's get it fixed!" Hosea assured him as Charles rushed over to help, pairing with the old man as they lifted up the rear of the wagon as best as they could as Arthur rushed to push the wheel back into place.
"You still strong enough to hold up a wagon?" Arthur teased as he tightened the joints.
"Shut up!" Hosea replied gruffly.
"I'm just sayin'!" Arthur replied.
"Well, say less!"
"See, you ain't so useless after all!" Arthur teased as he helped Charles and Hosea pick up the items that had fallen off.
"Not quite!" Hosea chuckled as he picked up a suitcase, seeing that Charles had noticed the other eyes that were on them, watching from the cliffside ahead...
"What you think?" Arthur asked hesitantly.
"If they wanted trouble, we wouldn't have seen 'em," Charles assured the two as Hosea waved a sign of peace to them. "Poor bastards... We really screwed them over down here. Come on, let's not push our luck,"
"What happened?" Arthur asked.
"Well, get in, I'll tell ya on the way," Hosea said as the men quickly loaded themselved back up onto the wagon. "Not too far now, stay on this trail. We'll follow the river then cut left inland," Hosea directed. "So... Yes, the Indians in these parts got sold a very raw deal. This is the Heartlands we're going to, good farming and grazing country, they lost it all. Stolen clean away from them it was, even every blade of grass. Killed or herded up to the reservations in the middle of nowhere." Hosea explained.
"And how's that different from everywhere else?" Charles asked.
"Well, maybe it's not. I just heard some of the army out here was particularly, uh, unpleasant about it."
"Unpleasant? How do you rob and kill people pleasantly?" Charles questioned. "We don't, in spite of Dutch's talk."
"I fear I was perhaps trying to simplify something more complicated for the benefit of our blockheaded driver here." Hosea teased.
"Hey, don't blame it on me!" Arthur replied. "Never forget, this here's a conman, Charles, born and bred. Just 'cause it sounds fancy don't mean he knows a damn thing about what he's talkin' about." Arthur explained.
"Oh, but I sure know about that there 'wanted' poster you're keepin' on you," Hosea chuckled. "You plannin' on goin' after her, aren't you?"
Arthur scoffed, "No. Like I said, you don't know what you're talkin' about."
"Are you still talking about that Minnie Barlow woman? What's the deal about her anyway? Lenny told me that she saved your hide back on that train." Charles intervened.
"Oh, did she now?" Hosea asked, raising his grey brows. "I didn't know about this!"
'Shit!' Arthur thought to himself. He was now going to have to talk about her. He looked at the smug grin on Hosea's face as he loved to try and land him a relationship that he would never settle for. He had already tried with Mary-Beth, which now made things almost awkward in camp. "I don't think it was her," Arthur grit, tapping the harness leather harder on the horse's backs.
"Yeah?" Hosea questioned. "Anyway, Charles, Minnie Barlow is known as Bandit Barlow around here. By what I've read, she used to work for some feller who is employed with the Pinkertons. Apparently, she knew too much and her supervisor tried to get her killed. After she found out about it, she turned around and robbed him, then became an outlaw!" Hosea explained, chuckling.
"Does she have a gang or what?"
"No, she runs alone," Hosea replied. "I reckon she had a small gang a few years ago, but they knew about her bounty and tried to have her captured for the payment. According to the poster Arthur is dearly holding on to, she has eight-thousand dollars for her head," Hosea snickered. "I don't know much about her past, just by what I've read or heard, but I do know she robbed the Lemoyne National Bank in Saint Denis, robbing a well-known tycoon as well. Some Italian feller. Robbed him and that bank in broad daylight and nobody knew until she was long gone,"
"Sounds like I need to buy her a drink and have a few hours of her time just to hear the stories!" Charles replied, intrigued. "When did the bank robbery happen?"
"A couple of years ago," Hosea replied. "By what I read, the robbery took up to three months to do without anybody knowin'. She got a job there, made it well with the bank manager over time, and got a promotion to a loan manager position and the fellers she was runnin' with would come in every few weeks to "take out a loan" of a few thousand dollars when she would just walk into the safe and give them as much money as she could. After the bank was running low on funds, they didn't question her as she covered her tracks. Once time got scarce, she had one of her boys take out another big loan before she made a break for it."
"Sounds like she and Dutch would get along," Arthur replied, smirking at the thought of how smart the woman was.
"I'm sure," Charles said. "So, how did nobody catch her?"
"She used a fake name to get the job. The only thing that messed her up was that she got the wrong men for the job. They were giving details to the Pinkertons the whole time. They turned her name in for the bounty after she gave orders to rob a train goin' towards Rhodes. Big roadblock over the tracks, but Minnie took wind of it and made a break for it, leavin' her two guys to fend for themselves. They ended up getting arrested and are now in a state penitentiary. Since then, only her tracks have been discovered, but no sign of her. She's slick, now," Hosea warned.
"Sure," Arthur replied. "I'm sure she won't be that hard to find..."
Hosea chuckled, "Let me know how that goes." He teased.
"So..." Arthur cleared his throat, taking in all of the new information he had just learned of his apparent crush. "What happened to your tribe?" He asked Charles.
"I don't even know if I have one," Charles replied. "Least not that I can remember. My father was a colored man. They told me he lived with our people for a while, a number of free men did, but when we were forced to move from our lands, the three of us fled. I was too young to really remember much. All live I've been on the run. A couple of years later, some soldiers captured my mother, took her somewhere. We never saw her again. We drifted around... He was a very sad man and the drink had a mean hold on him. Around thirteen... I just took off on my own." He explained.
"That was about the age we found young Arthur here, maybe a little older," Hosea said. "A wilder delinquent you never did see. But he learned fast."
"Not as fast as Marston, apparently," Arthur replied, his jealousy spiking yet again.
"Wait... I don't understand," Charles said, confused. "What's the problem between you two?"
"Arthur?" Hosea said, insisting for him to explain.
"It's a long story," Arthur sighed. "We still heading the right way?" He asked, now shifting during the awkward silence.

"You okay, pa?" Minnie asked her father as she woke from a midday nap, something she never did unless she needed it. She gripped her shawl tighter as the wind from the Cumberland Forest engulfed the cabin.
"Somethin' don't feel right," He replied, gripping his rifle as he continued to stare out the window. She knew this wasn't anything new as he had been acting like this for a couple of years, but she too got the odd feeling in her gut. She needed to prepare.
"I'm sure it's nothin', pa," Minnie assured as she stepped closer to her father, patting his shoulder. "Want me to cook ya somethin'?"
"No, I'm not hungry. Night's comin' soon. Best get some rest. I'll be out on the porch."
She nodded and shook her head, not daring to inform her father that it was only early in the afternoon. She went to the chest at the end of the bed, retrieving her gunbelt and tightening it around her waist before walking out of the cabin, passing her father who was sitting in the rocking chair. "I'm gonna go feed the chickens and get the eggs, but we'll need some more food soon. Want me to go into town later?" She asked.
"No need, dear. I will. I need to get out of here for a bit. Those mountains are taunting me." He replied, taking a drag off of his pipe.
"You'll need a horse, take Trace." She suggested as she pointed to her buckskin Quarter Horse.
"You sure?"
"Yeah, he'll take care of you. He always does." She smiled.
"Okay, well I'll take him out first thing in the mornin' to Valentine and get some more food," He nodded, a grin appearing on his face as he was excited to ride a horse again, but the lurking doom he felt coming never did settle in his mind. He didn't want to leave his daughter alone tomorrow, but whatever was coming, he knew they both couldn't escape. At least she had a fighting chance.

I'm not really good at prompts but here goes nothing.
Claudette is beside herself when she finds out she's pregnant. For most people, this would be fantastic news. Hell, it would have been great news for her if there weren't a few significant issues. The first being that's she's stuck in an almost constant state of peril—second being that she has to find away to keep now not only herself safe but also her unborn child. The last issue but definitely not least is that the father of her child isn't exactly the friendliest or even friendly to begin with.
Claudette/ Frank or (whoever you pick I can't pick between Michael ,Evan ,Frank ,Kazan ,or Pyramid head)
It’s on ao3 if you wanna read it there too. I decided to do Pyramid head cause I like him and it was more interesting compared to some other killers for me
https://archiveofourown.org/works/24712846
For the first time after being trapped into the Entity, Claudette cried. She honestly thought all her tears have dried out by now. Every trial being an all too familiar torture she couldn’t even produce tears for anymore, but leave it to the Entity to find a new way to torture its inhabitants. In the end she can’t even blame the Entity for her mistake, it was even kind enough to grant her odd and unusual wish for a pregnancy test after she started getting sick. The dreaded object sat tossed aside carelessly near the log that she sat at, hidden away in the deepest part of an unexplored wood in order for her to feel comfortable enough to take it. It was her fault for not being careful, her fault for not thinking you could even get pregnant here, and her fault for even sleeping with the man in general. Despite everyone else she could try to blame, her newfound torturer was herself.
She tried to reason with herself a little, every act of negligence on her part did have a very valid reason to it. She never had her period since coming here, she’s had unprotected sex multiple times since being here, and if she was gonna be honest, she wouldn’t have even guessed that Pyramid Head was fertile. He seemed more like an entity himself rather than a regular human being. She would’ve been more concerned if she had slept with that Legion boy instead of him, but in the end she’d slept with him and was now facing the consequences of their actions.
There was nothing particularly bad about the man, except for the fact that he was a monster, and that was something that pained her more than usual. It was a somewhat ignorant thought that she would have never had otherwise, but in her grief, logic and empathy was starting to evade her. Claudette knew he was an intelligent beast. He responded to natural human conversation and was definitely capable of deeper thought despite his inability to speak them. They’ve had quite a few deep conversations before they started sleeping together, but for some reason Claudette felt a little disgusted with herself. Almost like she had slept with an animal and somehow found herself pregnant. The thought felt grotesque in her brain, and when she was more like herself, she felt that she should apologize to the man for even having such a thought cross her mind.
She hiccuped and cried harder into her hands. In a deeper part of her mind, she just knew her harsh and untrue thoughts were because of what he was to her. He was indeed monstrous to her both in stature and in nature. A born killer who preys upon the undeserving with no conviction would never make for a good father. She wished Jake had gotten her pregnant instead. They’ve had a few hook ups here and there towards the beginning of being trapped into the Entity.
Claudette couldn’t call it romantic, it was two people who were desperate for contact who wanted to feel a connection with someone they trusted. Their relationship remained platonic despite what they’d have done, and they were both fine with that. Claudette would’ve felt bad if she had thrusted a child onto him for something so inconsequential to both of them, but at least it would’ve been easy. It would’ve been a whole hell of a lot less complicated if it weren’t for the fact that the real father was a non verbal killer. It would’ve been one less situation to torture herself with.
She knew the father wasn’t Jake. They haven’t slept together in what seemed like years, and Claudette hasn’t had sex with any one else recently except for Pyramid Head. Oh God, to think that her baby daddy doesn't even have a name, just a title to call himself, made Claudette feel sick again. Once again, she shouldn’t be attacking him for things that he neither is, nor can he control, and she would definitely apologize to him later, but her child’s growth and future would absolutely be affected negatively by their bloody heritage. It’s already horrible enough to grow up in a place like this, but to have a visible murderer and torturer as your father doesn’t help.
She wonders if the baby would even make it. She’s so lucky she hasn’t died recently, but luck in this place dies just as quickly as the inhabitants it affects. Who knows what’ll happen to the baby if she dies, especially if her killer damages her stomach in the process? She knows that she’ll come back ok, but what about her unborn child? If her baby dies from her inability to protect it, the grief it will cause her would kill her again. She wouldn’t even know when she would have lost it. Prenatal care is almost impossible in this place, even more so with the fact that the only hospital in this realm has an ultra sadistic tormentor guarding it. She would have to wait to either miscarry in or out of a trial, or wait and see if her symptoms go away and she never grows bigger. She’ll sit and wonder if the Entity never put her baby back together like it did her after she died, just to start grieving for something that was dead months ago.
Even if her baby did survive, would they be healthy? Claudette could only imagine what it would be like to have continuous trauma to her womb during pregnancy. It’s not that she would love her child any less, quite the contrary actually, but she would always feel that it was her fault that her child wasn’t born as healthy as it could be. She also hoped that her child wouldn’t be afflicted with the same… condition as its father. She took the time to pause in her tears to laugh dryly. She could only imagine the torture of both carrying and birthing a child with a pyramid head. All of the cute little milestones of the baby moving around in her womb would slice her stomach open, or at least cause extensive, possibly irreversible damage to her. If it got bad enough it would probably be for the best to get an abortion, but God did she want this child. Despite every bad hand that's been dealt to her, she still loved this baby. She still wanted to make it work. She still wanted to see if she and Pyramid Head could be a family.
A family. That’s truly what she wanted at the end of the day. She definitely thought of the other survivors as her makeshift family, but this was different. To love someone dearly and have them love you back in such a way that only parents and their children could share. That’s what she wanted for herself. She wished she could’ve planned everything out better. If she was still going to have a child with Pyramid Head, she wanted them to be in love with each other. To at least have a romantic relationship before being saddled with a child. She wanted to have him love her, if not for her, then for the child. She’s seen what parents who hate each other’s guts do to children born between them, and she didn’t want another thing to add onto the child’s list of hardships. It’s not that she couldn’t have a loving relationship now, they’ve talked a lot and enjoyed each other's company many times before, but the chance that he wouldn’t love her in that way or would want anything to do with the child was far too high.
She’ll find out soon enough. It was for the best if she told him now before things got too deep. Her tears started to subside and before she knew it, she was already getting up to try and find a path that leads to Silent Hill. She only vaguely remembered the way to the confined hellscape, the killer being too new for habitual familiarity, and she hoped she didn’t stumble into any other killers territory. Afraid of what they could do to her if she walked into a particularly hostile domain, she started to feel herself tremble from more than just the tears.
She hadn’t even thought about it, but all of the extra stress that gets put on her could cause her to miscarry. Who cares if you escape a mad man’s clutches, when that same mad man scares you so past your wits that your own body kills the life inside it. Not to mention even if she survives the miscarry danger zone of the first few months, the further along she gets, the harder it is for her to run, hide, or help her friends. Try as her friends might they couldn’t do much for her if she couldn’t do it herself. None of them could face a killer toe to toe, and even as a group they can only save and protect the people who could help themselves out of a chase. If a killer truly wanted to kill a specific survivor, they will, and everyone who tries to stop them will only get hurt in the process. She can beg for mercy from the more kind and moralistic killers. Wraith, Legion, Huntress, hell maybe even the Oni may be more willing to turn a blind eye to her would be rounded form, but she knows for a fact that killers like Clown, Micheal and the Doctor would relish in the new ways they can torture her and would specifically seek her out in trials.
Her breathing got rapid and irregular. She was at the beginning of a panic attack and she knew it. This was all becoming too much for her. All this heartache, for a child that she wanted to keep. She needed to calm herself, knowing that it would do more harm than good if she let herself spiral, but her grief weakened mind couldn’t handle the onslaught of emotions. She paused in her steps, before falling to her knees. She didn’t even notice the startings of the familiar blood stained concrete, or the large figure walking towards her from a distance.
The ground shook slightly with the weight of Pyramid Head’s steps, small tremors getting stronger the closer he walked towards her. The even shaking gave her something to synchronize her breaths to, making her calm enough to at least be aware of her surroundings. Something must have gotten her there quicker or maybe she was just walking faster than she thought, either way she’s glad she made it here and not panicking alone in the forest. The sight of Pyramid Head clambering towards her would’ve scared her a month ago, but they’ve met up with each other like this a lot since then. It especially loses its impact after you’ve slept with a guy. Plus she had bigger fears on her mind than a man who seemed more concerned rather than bloodthirsty.
Claudette didn’t look up to him as he came to a stop directly in front of her. Her breathing had calmed down some, but she could still feel herself shaking violently. Only when the man kneeled down and put his hand on her shoulder, did she look up to him. She wondered how he could see with that thing on. If it were some sort of helmet, he would definitely only be able to give her a sideways glance, as he had to turn his head in order to not hit her with the metal contraption. He tilted his head even more to the side in concern, obviously asking a silent ‘What's wrong?’ To her. She knows she must look a mess to him, tear stained face and hyperventilating while sitting on the ground.
Her attack had mostly passed, but it’s disappearance did nothing to quell her shaking. She was definitely going to start crying again, and she didn’t even tell him what happened yet. The silence was starting to kill her. She wished either of them could speak to break the spell. She wished that she was strong enough to just let it all out. She wished that even when she did tell him that she was pregnant with his child, he could respond back and tell her exactly how he felt about the whole thing. She wished that she could’ve gotten pregnant under normal circumstances. Tears started to flow down her cheeks again as she whimpered softly.
Pyramid Head let out a startled low whine as he quickly shifted from letting go of her, to frantically waving his arms in front of her, then finally settling his large hands on her cheeks to both wipe her tears and let him have a clearer view of her face. He was definitely not used to comforting people, Claudette now knew that for a fact, but his genuine concern and eccentric way of doing it made Claudette feel a little better. She managed to let out a short teary laugh and put her hand up to hold his arm.
“Thank you,” She leaned into his touch and sighed. “I'm sorry... For the things I thought and said that you didn’t deserve. I’m sorry that I forced you into this position. I’m so sorry for everything.”
Now he looked even more confused than before. He paused in his ministrations and only seemed to stare at her. She knows he’s probably tired of her beating around the bush. She hasn’t said anything or done anything of substance since seeing him, only bawling her eyes out and panicking. She might as well get it out already, especially since, as a new killer, he gets called out often and could leave at any moment. She looked down, took a shaky inhale of breath, and licked her lips. Well… here goes nothing.
“Pyramid Head, I don’t know how it happened, but…” A pause.
“I-,” She looked back up at him. “I’m pregnant.”
She could feel him go stiff and even tighten his grip on her cheeks. As he made no further movements, Claudette felt the need to go on. To explain herself, to hear anything but the silence and the lack of clear emotion from the man.
“I asked the Entity to give me a pregnancy test, and it was positive… I want to keep it, if you don’t mind, but I don't know what to do. How we could survive, if we could survive. How I could raise them in a place like this,” Her eyes darted to and fro wildly, her hands following. She couldn’t help but to ramble. She needed someone there to listen, and here was just the man who needed to hear it. “God do I want this kid! I really do, but this is going to be so hard. And I don’t know if I’ll be raising the child alone or-”
Pyramid Head quickly grabbed her shoulders and shook them with a strong grunt. She finally looked up at him to see his large helm quickly swaying back and forth. This was somewhat unexpected to her, considering his lack of a positive reaction initially. Does he want to help raise the child? If so could her little fantasy of a happy family be closer to a reality? The thoughts ran laps around her mind. She felt her hopes starting to bubble up inside her. She wanted to see just how far she can press her luck.
“So… would you be willing to raise it with me?” A nod as his hand went down to softly palm her belly. She was starting to feel a smile coming on. “Well I don’t want to ruin what we have going on right now, but I was wondering if you wanted to.. I don’t know. Maybe start dating?”
There was a short pause that made Claudette’s heart drop a bit. She was going to backtrack on her words, but a confused grunt stopped her. She looked at him curiously as he pointed between them, made a lewd gesture with his hands, then formed a heart after he was finished. Claudette could feel her cheeks heat up at his display before questioning its meaning.
“Where we already dating when we had sex?” A curt nod was her only answer. She blinked stupidly for a second, then laughed at her ignorance. She was apparently worried about their relationship over nothing. She’s at least glad that she had one thing going positively for her.
“Sorry I didn’t realize. Most of the times I’ve had sex was mostly just flings, and to be honest it wasn’t a lot…” He put a hand on her shoulder and rubbed it, trying to comfort her.
“Well that’s at least two of my worries gone, but what about the more pressing issues. I don’t know if the baby could survive an attack or me dying. I know you wouldn’t hurt me, but what about the other killers? You can’t always be there to protect me,” They both looked down darkly at the grim situation. “I mean I could ask some killers not to target me. I know at least a few who wouldn’t hurt me-”
Pyramid Head gave a low growl at that. So that was a hard no, but they didn’t have a whole lot of options here, and Claudette knew that neither of them wanted to test the Entity’s rules on pregnancy death. Suddenly Pyramid Head made another noise as he then gestured to himself, then towards the sky. She took a moment to think about what he was trying to say.
“Are you gonna ask the Entity yourself?” Another nod. A killer asking the Entity for a favor worked out a lot better than a survivor asking for one, but Pyramid Head was new. Who knows if the Entity will trust him to keep promises or not, although he does have a good track record for kills so far. Claudette made a face. She didn’t like to take her chances with the Entity, but this was the only shot they got.
“Well… it’s worth a shot. I sure hope this works out.” She gave a reassuring smile as he rubbed her shoulder again. Eventually he pulled his hand off her shoulder, and opened up his arms to her for a hug. Claudette wasted no time taking him up on the offer, and quickly threw herself into the well needed hug. His hold was strong yet mindful of her small form. Strong bloodied hands lifted her carefully as he stood with her still in his arms. He walked them towards the main building, most likely on his way to the library, as was their usual hangout spot. The familiar scenery of the book filled room made Claudette feel the same sense of euphoria as when she’s in a garden. They definitely have a lot more to talk about, as difficult as some of the conversations may be they must be had. At least they had 9 months to think about the details.
