okay based off that bad sex meme Irohsami sex interrupted by a phone call and Asami just casually takes the call and discusses future industry stocks while Iroh is sitting there still hot to go and shocked like:
Tumblr media
anyway i hope this made you laugh
Welp.
He's just slipped her panties off when the telephone by the bed jangles to life. Iroh can't for the life of him understand why anyone needs a telephone in their bedroom, where its seemingly only purpose is to disturb either sleep or other private activities, so he's even more shocked when Asami scoots up the bed, rolls over, and actually answers it.
"Hello?" Iroh has noticed how she never gives out her name at first. "Oh, yes, thank you. Yes, now is fine." She covers the receiver and throws him an apologetic look before mouthing the word sorry.
Iroh gazes from her smudged lipstick down past the waves of long black hair cascading over her open shirt to the appealing dark patch between her legs. His own shorts strain against him. Iroh wears nothing else. Because they'd been rather in the middle of something, hadn't they?
"Five-fifty," Asami says, as if repeating what her caller has told her. "What about on the Ba Sing Se exchange? They're ahead." Iroh runs a thumb experimentally over her ankle and the corner of her mouth twitches into a smile. "Alright, that's what I expected," she says into the receiver. "Can you give me the averages?"
With that small victory Iroh moves his hand further up Asami's leg. Her pale calf is cool beneath his palm. She's told him she loves how hot his skin feels to the touch but he's never admitted the inverse is also true. When he gets to her knee he makes another little circle with his thumb, this time adding some heat. Asami cocks an eyebrow at him. What are you doing? she mouths.
Iroh tugs a little at her knee. Just a little. She has every right to say no, to send him packing with shattered hopes and aching balls, but she doesn't. Instead she shifts her hips and lets him gently part her legs.
"We need to get it back up to seven at least by the end of the month," Asami says as Iroh presses his lips to the soft skin beside her knee, "ideally more. I'm not concerned, not yet. We" -- her breathing hitches when he nibbles the inside of her thigh -- "we have the second quarter earnings out on Monday."
Iroh takes his time, and is rewarded with the feel of Asami's free hand in his hair. She's not pulling him to her but almost. Nothing turns him on so much as being wanted yet this, this is something else. It almost feels like a challenge. The taste of her isn't nearly as sweet as the change in her voice on the telephone. Maybe her caller can tell, maybe they can't, but Iroh can. Her tone is high, breathy, with too many pauses. Asami usually speaks with such confidence.
"Then the Board will just ah um have to wait," she gasps into the telephone. "Along with... with... with everyone else." A pause. Iroh can feel her trembling. Her hips twitch with need. "Really. Will be. Fine."
She comes perhaps four seconds after she hangs up and Iroh thinks she might tear holes in the sheets. It's all he can do to stay with her, keeping it up as she rides out the wave shouting his name. Only when he's sure that she's finished does he relent.
The scene before him is beautiful. Asami lays on the bed red-faced and wrecked, her gorgeous green eyes blown wide. "You..." she pants, seemingly unable to finish the sentence.
Iroh grins. "I'd never abandon a mission."
Asami pulls her legs together and scoots to the side. Her mouth has a mischievous look that he doesn't like. "You," she repeats, nodding her chin to the bedside table, "go call your mother."

~~~
Tumblr media
Mako's been your boyfriend for about a month and honestly part of you was surprised the two of you were still a thing. You heard the stories about how his last relationships turned out; all you could do was hope he wouldn't pull the same crap with you. He seemed sweet enough, though. So you didn't have doubts.
It was one of those rare quiet evenings. The two of you lounging together on your couch. He had his arm wrapped around your shoulder while his other rested on the back of the couch. You were pretty happy being snuggled up to him, especially with him being a firebender. Mako felt like a personal heater. It was nice. Warm. Quiet.
Or at least, it was quiet. Until Korra practically kicked your door open with a massive grin across her face. "Hey, lovebirds! Let's hang out." Her fists were clenched at her chest as Asami walked in behind her. An apologetic look on her face.
"It was all I could do to get her to at least not break your door in." Asami sighed, hands on her hips as she glanced at her girlfriend. Who gave her a sheepish smile.
"Yeah, whatever." Korra rolled her eyes.
You and Mako had both been startled by the sudden break in. Mako had even gotten to his feet, ready to defend the two of you before realizing it was just Korra and Asami. His shoulders relaxed, though it was quickly replaced with an annoyed tension instead. "Haven't you heard of knocking?! What if we'd been- I don't know-!" He stuttered out, face flushed and you understood the meaning he was getting at. You couldn't help but laugh as you got to your feet, arms wrapped around his waist. Mako relaxed under your touch and placed a hand to your hip, his eyes softening as he looked at you.
"Been what-?" Korra had started to ask before realization dawned on her," ohhhh. Gross." She pretended to gag, Asami rolled her eyes and sighed again from beside her.
"Could you be anymore annoying?" And Mako's annoyance was back the moment Korra started talking again. You and Asami shared a look, both knowing how these two could get. Before Korra could retort Asami covered her hand with her mouth.
"Let's not start anything, alright?" She looked at her girlfriend, who simply huffed into her hand. But made no effort of moving.
"Korra if you're looking for something to do, how about you and I spar it out?" You grinned at the Avatar, who mirrored your grin. The tension slowly leaving the room. Mako looked relieved next to you for the change in topic. You squeezed his hand that was on your hip then moved away from his touch, heading outside with Korra. The other two following behind.
When everyone gets outside, it doesn't take long for the match to begin. Korra's always been on the more impulsive side when it comes to her fights, so it doesn't surprise you when she immediately throws a blast of fire in your direction. Luckily for you, your apartment is on the edge of the waterline. Meaning you have a hell of a lot of water at your disposal. And you're a pretty strong waterbender, so there's more than a few ways for you to use it.
You jump back and onto the railing that blocks people from the water. Without hesitation, you let yourself fall. Mako's eyes widen and he rushes forwards, only to see you explode upwards on a massive wave. His eyes widen as he stumbles back a bit. "Woah... remind me never to make them mad." Mako looks at Asami, who's trying not to laugh at his surprise.
Korra grins and jumps into the water with you," that's what I'm talking about!" She creates a wave of her own. And the two of you go head to head. Waves moving around, funnels of water launching from both of you. Trying to knock the other off their wave.
After many back and fourths, you finally manage to knock Korra off and throw your hands into the air in victory. "Yeah!!!"
Korra swims back up to the surface and looks at you with a smile," you totally have to teach me some time!" She never realized just how strong you were and frankly, neither did the other two. Mako looks a little nervous about it himself. Suddenly rethinking every decision he's ever made with you, praying that he hadn't upset you in one way or another.
You and Korra return to land, giving each other a fist bump before you walk over to your boyfriend. Completely drenched in water. Normally, he wouldn't let you hug him if you're covered in water. But after watching that fight he finds it hard to say no to you as your arms wrap around him. Giving him a kiss on the cheek. Yeah, he definitely needs to remember to stay in your good books.
bumi + lin getting caught or how everyone found out about their relationship :-))))
Title: Discretion
Note: Here’s what I have for this particular Lin/Bumi II prompt. Hope you enjoy 😊
· Pairing: Lin/Bumi II
· One-shot, post-series AU
· Rating: Teen
-----
Bumi was whistling as the hustle and bustle around Air Temple Island continued in preparation for Varrick’s wedding. Why they allowed the wedding and the party on the island, he had no idea.
He watched the tired teenagers who were hovering excitedly around the affianced. He supposed they all deserved some sort of merrymaking after what he had dubbed in his mind as the Kuvira Incident. It also was not a bad idea to have them use this time to work out their romantic entanglements, he thought as he eyed the various couples gravitating toward each other.
It also gave him a lovely excuse to meet up with his ownromantic entanglement.
The former military man faced the city pensively.
He frowned as the water lapped against the shore. The sun continued to shine brightly even as the buildings at the island across showed devastation, some still slightly smoldering days after the attack.
The Kuvira Incident did put things into perspective.
Well, that went dark quickly.
He blinked away grim thoughts and focused instead on the fairy lights being hung around the courtyard.
As he decided earlier, they all deserve some merrymaking.
---
“What are you doing skulking around?” Bumi asked the lady in green, who was looking down at a kebab that had seemed to have displeased her.
Lin Beifong scoffed. “I am not.” And continued to examine the mystery meat on the stick.
Bumi sauntered closer to her, standing at her side, joining her quiet observation of the party. “What on earth did that kebab do to you?” He waved his free hand to said meat on a stick; his other hand occupied with helping him take a swig of whatever fruity punch Varrick was serving.
She bit it furiously while rolling her eyes. “It’s a bit tasteless, if you must know.”
Bumi bit back a laugh and just hummed.
While she could eat instant noodles as well as any cadet living off rations, Lin did have her snobby side to food when it comes to social events thrown by the upper-class.
“Then again, Varrick is tasteless when it comes to most things.” Lin added, her scowl scaring off a Nuktuk-attired waiter who had the misfortune of glancing their way to offer more refreshments.
This time, Bumi let out a laugh, earning him a smirk from the metalbender.
“Well, that’s true. Let me join you in disparaging the libation too – not a single touch of alcohol in this drink.”
They stood there, at the fringe of the party crowd for a while – he sipping the vile drink, she chewing the tough meat.
“They allowed you to wear that?”
It took Bumi a moment to understand she meant his uniform. “I am a retired commander after all.” That and because he did not want to be dressed in formal wear that was almost identical to what his brother was wearing.
Lin swallowed her food. “Hmm, I've been thinking of that too…”
“Me in a military uniform?” Bumi waggled his eyebrows and received a smack on his arm. “You in my uniform?” Another smack.
“Retiring.” She said it so quietly he thought he must have misunderstood her.
He briefly wondered what could have made her arrive at a such a life-changing decision. Then again, if that meant that she would be closer to safety than danger…
“I don’t see why not?” He tossed back with a grin, noting the veiled concern on Lin’s face, worried about his reaction. “As long as it’s what you truly want.”
Lin’s posture relaxed after that.
They continued to sip and eat in silence.
They saw Rohan running at the other side of the court, weaving through the people who were starting to go to the dance floor. Huan was noticeably dragged by Ikki to dance (“Kid takes after her mother, doesn’t she?” Bumi murmured in jest, only to get an elbow to his side as Lin shook her head.).
As people went over to the dance floor, it would not be long before someone noticed the lady beside him. Chief of Police or not, she always did strike quite a figure. Without all the armor (literally and figuratively), it could be easily argued the Lin could be approachable.
He stood closer at her side. He twitched his pinky finger to touch hers.
Her eyes darted to him.
The mood of the party was happy and hopeful. He knew this feeling. He had seen this before. The sigh of relief and desperation for something good after a long hard military campaign.
His face remained cheerful and proceeded to talk about everything and nothing.
Lin’s expression softened. “Want to leave the party?” Her pinky finger hooked around his.
“Thought you’d never ask.”
As always, Lin was the only one who saw through him.
---
Propping himself up on his elbow, Bumi watched her sleep.
Lin had always been a light-sleeper. He got that – living with a constant threat hanging at their back or having a long career that required alertness and rapid reaction time does that to you. That was why it never ceased to amaze him that the metalbender manages to have long uninterrupted sleep whenever they were together.
Spirits knew how much she deserved to sleep in.
He had sighed in relief when Lin said she had lied last night. She had not just been thinking of retiring from the police force – she had already filed her retirement to both President Raiko and headquarters. And, in true efficient Beifong fashion, she had secured approval within days. He did not think she had fully recovered and taking a break (albeit a permanent one) was more than needed.
His eyes traced the dark eye bags and pale complexion. The rebuilding efforts and the ton of work post-Kuvira Incident took a toll on her.
Her skin, already marred with various scars and marks throughout the years, was much too pale. Each imperfection was linked with a story. Each story building up to who Lin was now today.
Her ankle had a small scar, almost invisible unless you knew where to look, from her childhood escapades.
There was the jagged scar, stitches very much apparent on her calf from her earlier days as a beat officer.
A smattering of bruises at her lower back was still present, souvenir from being tossed off the colossus.
Her shoulder, while exhibiting any outer trauma, was still healing from being dislocated from the same scrimmage with death.
There were more across her body, but the most recent ones were those that hit Bumi the hardest.
He was the one who found the Beifong sisters unconscious in the arm of the mecha giant.
He had been beyond terrified until found their respective pulses.
He feared it would have been too late for him, for them. Then Lin fluttered her eyes open, and, despite her shallow breaths, managed to croak out in a less than acerbic tone to help her down.
He mused now in the pale daylight that he ought to have done something then, said something then. He decided to rectify that now.
Before he could even reach over to wake her up in that delicious manner he was planning, several loud knocks beat at his door. He subconsciously tightened his grip around Lin’s waist.
“Bumi? Bumi!” Tenzin.
“We know you’re in there.” Su. “Open up!”
Bumi threw a worried glance at Lin, but she was still asleep and simply buried her face closer to his chest, ensconced under his fluffy comforter and buried under his equally soft pillows. He leaned back and closed his eyes, willing their unwanted siblings away.
Maybe if I pretended to be asleep, they would leave us alone…
Knock-knock-knock! A pause. Knock-knock-knock-knock-knock-knock!
“Bumi!”
He closed his eyes tighter.
Knock-knock-knock!
“Wait a minute, maybe it’s unlocked anyway…”
What are they talking about?
Bumi found out soon enough when the sound of the door sliding open reached his ears.
“Bumi – I can’t find -!”
He sat up quickly, making sure Lin was comfortable and quite hidden from view.
His visitors stopped at the doorway, enough to trespass but not enough to take a full scan of the room.
“Ohhh, I’m – we’re – sorry –.” Tenzin stammered, quite apologetic for bursting in his brother’s room.
Su did not have the same misgivings. “Bumi has a lady friend!”
“He does?!” A new voice called out with shock.
Tenzin and Su, he can tolerate but having the kids over – Bumi decided he drew the line there.
Fight shock with shock.
He stood up quickly, unmindful of being seen in his birthday suit.
“Oh sweet Spirits Agni! Bumi! Cover yourself!”
“My eyesss!”
The Avatar and Bolin immediately shouted over gasps of shock.
Bumi stretched languidly, pretending that nothing was amiss. He will not be embarrassed. That was their problem, they were the ones who were invading his privacy.
To be fair, he had no issues about his nudity so it was not really a big issue. It was just that with Lin in his bed – well, the situation was a bit tricky. Fortunately, her face was still hidden under the comforter. He pulled it higher, never mind that part of her leg is still visible.
“To what do I owe this wake-up call?” Bumi scratched his beard, acting as though this was a normal occurrence. He did delight in making his brother uncomfortable. They became closer in the latter years. Old habits die hard though.
“Bumi, we apologize for barging in this morning.” Tenzin was looking over his shoulder. “But could you – at least -.” He waved at the general direction of the naked man.
Bumi took his sweet time going around the room to pull on some clean shorts.
Su took this opportunity to push out the kids out of the room, who he now saw included both pro-bending brothers, Asami, Opal, and the Avatar.
“Why is the entire cavalry here?” Bumi sauntered to the door, blocking everyone’s view of the room and angling his body to stand in the way of the bed. “What’s up?”
“It’s Lin.”
A beat.
“What about her?”
“She’s missing. I didn’t know when she went home last night.” Su wringed her hands in worry. “I called her house, no one answered. We went over and she wasn’t there.”
It annoyed Bumi how they were suddenly on Lin’s case when they barely said two words to her the night before. There was bound to be a hidden agenda to this sudden worry.
“Your sister is a grown woman and she's been taking care of herself without you lot for more than a decade now.
He scanned the faces around him.
Postures stiffened, Tenzin flinched, eyes avoided Bumi’s.
Yeah¸ that’s what I thought.
Su stomped lightly. “Regardless of that,” The woman was adamant and would not back down. “We intend to go to the station to report her missing, with or without your inputs.”
Mako looked downright uncomfortable, Bumi thought the boy genuinely cared for his mentor.
“Boy, anything you’d like to add, detective?” Bumi nodded at the firebender.
“We can’t file a missing person’s case unless the person has been missing for more than 24 hours.” Mako shifted his eyes.
“There you go. Drop the matter, Su. I’m sure Lin is fine.”
Su looked like she was about to argue and Tenzin was about to say something but Mako beat him to it.
Still not catching anyone’s eyes, Mako started. “And well, what if the Chief also had a lady friend like Bumi? Or a gentleman friend?”
Bumi almost snorted.
Gentleman friend, what?
The detective was looking ill now but props to the boy.
“Lin with a special friend is highly unlikely.” Lin’s sister said decidedly, waving off Mako’s theory.
Bumi snorted now. “Right, because you’d know, ain’t it right?”
“I don’t see why not?” Suyin frowned, crossing her arms.
Moments like this Bumi was reminded why Lin still held some form of dislike towards her sister.
Asami tried to mediate. “I don’t think Chief Beifong would appreciate her private life being discussed like this.”
Bumi knew he always liked the Sato girl, he nodded and added. “Please dont do this to try to assuage your…guilt.”
As expected, there were reactions from Su and Tenzin.
“We are not -!”
“Nonetheless, Bumi, Lin is…” Tenzin’s words trailed off and color drained from his face as he continued to look over his brother’s shoulder.
Bumi knew the moment Tenzin realized who was in his bed. He quickly slid the door closed. He tried to meet his brother’s eye, but the man was resolutely looking away.
“Safe.” Tenzin managed to choke out. “Let’s go everyone, I’m sure Lin is very safe.”
Su turned on Tenzin, obviously shocked by his sudden change. “What are you talking about, Tenzin – we -.”
“If Bumi says Lin is okay, then she probably is.” Was the simple yet shifty response.
“But we need Lin to -!”
Opal elbowed her mother gently, asking her to drop the issue. It did not escape Bumi’s notice.
There was the hidden agenda – Su needs Lin for something.
The group scurried away as both Tenzin and Mako helped herding them away from the bedrooms.
---
Bumi figured it was too early to be dealing with anything.
He rejoined a sleeping Lin in bed, who in turn, burrowed into his side.
He will deal with the real world later. For now, he will enjoy this.
---
Ignoring Suyin who was still chattering about one thing or another (in all likelihood berating him for not supporting her call to search for her sister), Tenzin mulled over his earlier discovery.
Lin and Bumi are together.
Not just together but together – together.
He wringed with his hands as they walked to the dining hall.
How long have they been together?
He had thought that this knowledge would bother him – well, it did, he reconsidered, but not for the reasons he might have initially thought of.
It was bothering him the same way it would have bothered him to see any woman sleeping with his older brother.
He had reconciled with his siblings and the Beifongs in the recent years, but some things should have remained private between them.
Like Bumi’s sex life.
Like Lin’s sex life.
Like their sex life.
Oh, how he wished he gone back to the past few minutes when he was still blissfully unaware. Or he hoped he would have already forgotten the markings and scars on Lin’s legs in order to not have recognized her in his brother’s bed.
Ah well, Tenzin eyed Lin’s family, the Avatar, Bolin, Asami, and Mako walking beside him, here’s hoping they not find out soon.
He doubted greatly that Lin would enjoy her relationship being disclosed before she deemed it necessary.
He recalled Bumi’s stance earlier, how protective he was of an unknowing Lin.
End of the day, Tenzin just wanted both of them to find happiness. He had did them both wrong in their lifetime and was at a loss on how to rectify it. The airbender had been trying in the past years, but there was only so much he could do.
Too little, too late, he always thought.
Tenzin waved at the acolytes that were leaving the dining hall. Pema sat down beside him and smiled as she handed him the platter of food. He smiled back, thinking still how lucky he was to have her by his side.
And now, by some peculiar twist of fate, Bumi and Lin found each other.
And, if, they make each other happy and content, then, Tenzin decided then and there, he will support them in any way that he can.
---
“Bro, are you going to eat that last piece?”
Mako was shaken from his reverie. Bolin stabbed the food on his plate at his head shake.
“Are you alright, Mako?” Asami was always the sensitive and observant of the group.
The firebender tossed a look at the Avatar chatting with Bolin and Opal at the other side of the table. After making sure that they were preoccupied, he turned to Asami.
Asami raised her eyebrows at him. “Well?”
“I think I know where the chief is.” He could not help but dart a wary glance at the Beifongs. “But it’s not my place to say.” Mako quickly added.
Asami leaned back at her seat and looked at him quizzically. “How did you know where?”
Mako dropped his utensils on the plate and covered his face with his hands. He was not one of Lin’s proteges for nothing.
One of his strengths as a detective is his keen eye for detail.
And details did not evade him in that brief view of Bumi’s bedroom.
It was quite obvious to him that the strewn pieces of clothing belonged to someone he had seen in attendance in the wedding reception earlier.
And that someone is his commanding officer.
---
Said commanding officer made her presence known at the lunch table that noon, surprised at seeing everyone still on the island.
That Chief Beifong was not expecting that there were still other guests at the residential area of Air Temple Island was fairly obvious, as Bumi was walking beside her, whispering at her side with a smile.
The plan was, actually, for most of the guests to have already gone their own ways but that morning’s excursion to Republic City made everyone’s itinerary delayed and their breakfast turned into brunch.
She exchanged a look with Bumi who shrugged and tried to sit at one of the empty tables unnoticed.
Now, while Mako might have been blessed with a sense of discretion, the same cannot be expected of his brother.
This became much apparent when said brother had gaped and thoughtlessly exclaimed, “Lin! We’ve been looking for you all morning – at what corner of Air Temple Island did you sleep at? I doubt this is the walk of shame.”
This pronouncement drew the attention of everyone in the hall – attention at her (their) very late entry and at her clothes which were clearly too formal for the day.
No one dared speak up as the metalbender simply glared at the earthbender, not responding.
There was complete silence in the dining hall.
…until comprehension dawned on Suyin Beifong’s face.
Then all hell broke lose.
---end---
Note: That could have probably gone better but let me know what you think. Anon, hope that worked for you (feel free to leave a note/msg :) ) Hope everyone is doing good, at least.
Long Overdue (Bolin x reader)
Pairing: Bolin x reader
Content: some good fluff. Such a good fluffy fic
Word Count: 1.8k
REQUESTED BY ANONYMOUS: “here’s my bolin request! i was thinking an earthbender (thats my fav bending art) and him finally admit feelings for each other! idk what else add what u want:)”
I hope you enjoy this! I’m sorry it’s been a while since you requested it! I start my sophomore year of college/university next Monday, so I’ve been really busy getting everything together!
Babyboiboyega’s Masterlist of Masterlists
Babyboiboyega’s Legend of Korra masterlist
********************
*Bolin’s POV*
He felt as if he were about to go toe-to-toe with the legendary Toph herself. It sounded like a barrage of drums in his ears, the way his heart beat so intensely. His clothes were wrinkled with the amount of times he had wipes his sweaty palms on them. However, no matter how nervous he was, he would go through with his plan. It had been a long time coming, too long, really. It had been such a long time coming that when he had told his brother, Mako gave him a smile and a pat on the back before offering him an exasperated “finally”. Bolin had even walked in once on Asami and Korra discreetly planning a way for him to admit his feelings for you.
He was lucky to have the friends he had, for as soon as he had explained his plan to them, they were all more than eager to offer any help that they could. And he wouldn’t have been able to do all of this without them.
They helped with every aspect of his plan, including the encouraging part whenever he became too nervous.
But now that the day had come, no amount of nerves could distract him from the purpose of the day. Or, rather, the night.
“Hey, Bolin! Everything is set up outside, now all you have to do it go out there and wait for the love of your life to show up.”
Asami’s voice echoed through the hallway as she made her into the front room where Bolin continued to pace. Despite her friend’s worrying, she couldn’t help the smile on her face. Despite his worrying, Bolin knew that her smile radiated only a fraction of how happy he felt.
“Yeah, yeah, yeah! I’m fine, I’m heading out! Oh! Are the dumplings out there? And the fruit pie- is the fruit pie out there? What about the blanket? Was it wrinkled?”
“Yes, yes, and no. Everything is perfect, Bolin. Come on.”
Asami gently placed her hand on Bolin’s shoulder and turned him towards the door. Bolin’s feet moved as she gently pushed him through the door, into the hallway.
“Everything is going to go just fine, I know it will. I know because I’ve seen the way you two look each other. You look at her like she’s the moon, and she-“
“Actually, the moon was an actual person, you know? She was a princess of the Northern Water tribe, and I heard that she was beautiful but when I look at the moon, I don’t want to compare Y/N to the moon. Isn’t that a little rude to the both of them. They’re both really beautiful, but Y/N just makes everything around you stop when she walks in. Including your breath- is it hot in here?”
His rambling continued as Asami pushed him through the door leading to the back garden, his talking becoming more frantic the closer they came to the garden.
Asami let him continue, letting him get whatever he needed to get out. However, as they reached the setup for the evening and he continued to ramble, she stopped short, making him do the same. She simply faced him and cocked her head to the side, raising an eyebrow in question.
Upon seeing her expression, his talking eventually slowed until it stopped completely, allowing him to draw in a proper breath. His eyes met Asami’s and a sheepish smile crept onto his face. He let out a sigh.
“Thank you, Asami, for everything. Thanks for letting me use your garden. And your blankets. And your kitchen- you know what? Thank you, for everything.”
A small laugh escaped her mouth as she pat his shoulder. Before she could say anything, the sound of running footsteps reached their ears.
“She’s almost her! She’s coming around now!”
Korra’s words made him freeze in his place, only for both Asami and Korra to grab him a second later, pushing him towards the setup that he worked so hard on.
“You got this, Bolin!”
“Just be yourself!”
They both offered quick words of encouragement before running back into Asami’s home, but not before glancing once more behind them just in time to see you walk around the side.
*Readers POV*
Your eyesbrows furrowed at what your friends were planning, and you knew that they were planning something. You loved your friends, but they were horrible at keeping secrets, and it was rather easy to spot how secretive and suspicious they were acting. There was no point in asking them what they were up to because they wouldn’t come out directly and say it, but their actions said enough.
Their suspicious actions lasted all the way up until today, for some reason.
When Korra had led you back to Asami’s home only to offer a quick “come to the back in one minute” before running off, you knew that all those days of suspicion had culminated into this.
Your mind ran through the possible scenes that you could stumble upon once you followed Korra’s directions, however the second you stepped around the corner, all of those ideas quickly disappeared.
Your eyes trailed over every single detail of the setup in front of you, taking it all in while trying to convince yourself that you weren’t dreaming.
Instead of being shrouded in darkness like it usually was at night, Asami’s garden was bathed in a soft light. It didn’t cover the entire garden, but it covered enough for you to see what you needed to see.
The gazebo that stood before you prompted a gasp to full from your lips. That’s where the light came from.
You could see the lights hanging from the edges of the gazebo along with the over grown vines that snaked up the limbs of it. As you walked closer, you cold hear the faint sound of music coming through a static-y radio along with the sound of someone whispering to themselves. It made your steps slow as your mind worked on trying to recognize the vice, but the second you did recognize it, it just made them speed back up.
“Bolin? W-what’s all this?”
His eyes stayed locked on your face as you continued to look at your surroundings, trying to gauge your reaction. He’d be lying if he said that he didn’t notice the way his heart jumped as a smile formed on your face.
“It’s all for you, Y/N. I…I wanted to do something nice. You’re always doing things for me and helping me, I just wanted to tell you thank you.” Of course, that wasn’t the only reason why he had planned all of this, but he didn’t want to blurt it out. What he had to say was too important, and he would not mess it up with his rambling or bluntness.
You sighed softly, turning to look at him. Your feet carried you over to where he stood, where you raised your hand and let it fall gently onto his arm.
“You…you did all of this just to tell me ‘thank you’?”
An exasperated laugh left your mouth as you glanced around once again, causing you to miss the pure, unadulterated expression of joy that crossed Bolin’s face. You were too busy trying to reign in your emotions; Bolin’s act of kindness brought tears to you eyes. It made your heart twist in the most pleasant way.
“Well, it wasn’t just to thank you. I actually wanted to tell you something.”
His words made you pause. A mixture of anticipation and worry surged through your body as you heard the nervous quiver in his voice; it made you question if you really wanted to hear what he had to say. He had never been nervous to say anything to you, that’s how close you two were. So the fact that he was so nervous to say something made you a little on edge.
“Tell me what, Bolin? Is everything okay?” Your smile fell a little, but it stayed supportive as you looked at him. Despite the worrying circumstances, you would always let him know that you would be there for him, no matter what. You knew that he would do the same for you in any case.
“Yeah, yeah, everything’s okay! I just…um…” His words faded but his eyes never left yours. A deep breath wracked his body and it seemed as if he were trying to find the courage to tell you whatever he needed to tell you. Seeing the conflict plain as day on his face prompted you to gently squeeze his arm.
“You know you can tell me anything, Bolin. Whatever’s got you so nervous, I promise I’ll be there every step of the way of…whatever it is you’re about to-“
“I love you, Y/N. I have for a very long time but I was too scared to tell you because I didn’t know how you would react and I didn’t want to even risk ruining our friendship because I value our friendship more than you could possibly understand, but I just couldn’t go on any longer without telling you that you mean the entire world to me and that I would move any mountain and possibly, some how, learn a new element just to be with you. I understand if you don’t feel the same way, but I really hope that this doesn’t ruin our friendship because I’d rather be your best friend than be nothing to you at all.”
You’d think that it would have been difficult trying to decipher what he had just said, but you had heard every single word effortlessly. The weight of his words settled in the pit of your stomach, keeping you rooted to your spot. You’d kill to see how your face looked, because you certainly couldn’t feel it. In fact, you couldn’t do anything really, besides stand there and pray to the spirits that you had heard him correctly.
The longer you stood there, the more apparent Bolin’s expression of dread became and the more you wanted to wipe away his frown that had formed.
You had been left speechless multiple times because of Bolin, but none of them could compare to this. You truly didn’t know what to say. Well, you did, but you had no idea how to say it.
“You don’t know what to say, but you know what to do, Y/N.”
You didn’t allow another second to pass for in that second, you could’ve psyched yourself out of what you were about to do.
You moved with a speed that you didn’t even know you possessed, and before he could say anything, your body was colliding with Bolin’s, and your lips were being pressed against his. It took him a millisecond to register what was happening, and then his arms were wrapping around your waist and bringing you closer.
It seemed that your bodies molded like two puzzle pieces that fit perfectly together. It wasn’t awkward; it was overdue. You didn’t know exactly how long it had been since you two admitted these feelings to yourselves, but it had been long enough to the point where as you two kissed now, it felt as if you could finally breathe.
Yeah, it had been long overdue.
**************
Once again, I hope you enjoyed this!
I’m going to be a little busy from now on, but I’m still going to be writing! If you sent in a request, I have put it on my to-do list and I promise I’m not going to forget about it! Please continue to send in requests; y’all have no idea how happy it makes me when y’all send in requests! And the request doesn’t even have to be for a writing piece; it can be a random question, a random fact, etc.
Stay safe, y’all!
Hi ! I hope you’re having a good evening, I was hoping to request an imagine of Jinora from the Legend of Korra, I thought it could be like romantic and with fluff, where she and the female reader are girlfriends but nobody except Korra knows about it and her family discovers it and they’re like supportive of their relationship :)
Tumblr media
(This is going to go along with my other Jinora x reader)
Ever since the night you spent in Jinora’s room, the two of you had began dating. The only person the two of you told was Kai and that was because he helped cover for you when you and Jinora wanted to spend alone time together. Neither of you wanted Tenzin or Lin to find out about your relationship with how bad their relationship ended. After everything that happened with Zaheer, you and Jinora barely got to spend as much time together. The last two times the two of you actually hung out was after she got her tattoos and after Korra left for the south pole.
---
You and your mom sat next to each other at the docks on air temple island. “I just don’t understand...” You take another bite of the roast duck your mom had smuggled onto the island. “How they don’t eat meat.” You finish your sentence as you swallow. Your mom just grunts as she takes a bite of her chicken in agreement. The party food was good but it was all vegan, not that you didn’t agree with their eating style it just wasn’t for you. “Y/n?” You heard someone say your name and turned around, duck hanging out your mouth, and saw Jinora standing at the beginning of the dock. You quickly swallowed the duck in your mouth before shoving the rest of it into your mom’s hands. You stood up and gave your mom a kiss on the head as a farewell before popping a mint in your mouth and walking over to Jinora. You missed the way your mom smirked, you might have been a Beifong and could hide secrets but she was your mom. Lin knew that there was something between you and Jinora. Luckily, she liked Jinora and had no problem with you dating her, not that she would admit to that. She also wasn’t surprised that Tenzin hadn’t figured it out yet. Lin watched with a small smile as you wrapped an arm around Jinora's shoulders before playfully rubbing her now bald head. Lin liked seeing you happy.
---
You stood at the docks as you watched everyone give Korra a hug goodbye, giving her one as well of course. You watched with sad eyes as Asami seemed to deflate as the boat slowly pulled away before shaking away her emotions and leaving the dock. You felt bad for Asami, it was obvious she had feelings for Korra and that it hurt that Korra didn’t want her to join her in the South Pole. You wrapped an arm around Jinora’s shoulder as the two of you returned to the air temple. You gave your mom a hug as she left the island on a boat with a few other people before going to Jinora’s room. You knocked on the door as you arrived and opened it when she didn’t respond. The sight before you broke your heart, Jinora was laying on her bed, head pressed against her pillow as she let out silent tears. You took off your jacket and boots before getting into the bed and pulling Jinora into you. “It’s okay... Korra is going to go to the South Pole, work her butt off, and return before you can blink.” You say trying to comfort Jinora. You knew that Jinora saw Korra as an older sister figure and looked up to her. “Everything will be okay...”
---
You and Jinora did find the odd times to have dates through out the next three year as you kept the peace and tried to help out with the Earth Kingdom and deal with whatever Kuvira was doing. You and Jinora made sure that if either of you got sent on a mission outside of Republic City that you were partnered together. When Korra returned home Jinora was ecstatic, three years was a long time. You, of course, were also happy for her return but that feeling was almost immediately replaced by embarrassment.
---
You watched with a big smile as Jinora lunged at Korra, both girls sporting a big smile as they wrap each other in a hug. “Wow, you’ve gotten tall.” Korra jokes as she notes that Jinora’s eyes line up with her chin. She looks behind Jinora and her eyes widen a little. “Holy spirits! You’re a giant now!” Korra exclaims as she gives you a hug. You let out a chuckle, “Yeah I finally got taller than Mako... It must be from my dad’s genes.” You release Korra from a hug and give Asami a smirk as she subconsciously leans closer to Korra as they stand next to each other. Your smirk is quickly wiped away as Korra asks a question. “So how long have the two of you been together?” Korra asks as she motions towards you and Jinora. You did a spit take in shock and coughed a little as Jinora rubbed your back, a blush prominent on her face. “How...” Korra looked at the two of you in confusion. “Are you guys not... I mean it just seemed obvious...” Korra voiced her confusion. “No we are dating... We just haven’t told anyone except for Kai.” “Oh... I can keep a secret.” Korra said with a smirk. “I figured it before Tenzin though, right?” Korra asks and beams when you and Jinora nod your head. “I can’t wait to rub it in his face when you both come out with your relationship. Make sure I’m there for that-” Korra gets cut off by a hard elbow to the stomach from Asami, who gives her a look. “I mean... I’m happy for you guys.” Korra says as she pulls you and Jinora into a hug.
---
 “Go dance with her.” A person says as they put a hand on your shoulder. “Huh? What?” You say as you turn around and your eyes go wide as you see your mother standing there in her green dress. “C’mon kid, I’m not blind like your grandmother and even she could see that you and Jinora are together.” Lin says with a roll of her eyes and a slight smile. “You’re... You’re okay with it?” You ask nervously, you wouldn’t admit it but your mom’s approval meant a lot to you. “Does she make you happy?” Lin asks as she takes a seat across from you, making you hold eye contact with her as you answer. “All the time.” Lin shrugs her shoulder, “Then I don’t see the problem.” “But you and Tenzin...” Lin let’s out a groan. “Look I might not show or tell you this often, but I do love you y/n. You’re my kid and all I want is for you to be happy. If that’s with or with out Jinora, I have no problems.” You tear up at your mom’s words, happy she was so accepting of your relationship. “Spirits, weddings must make you emotional.” You jest as you stand up and fix the tie around your neck. “Wish me luck.” You say before heading towards Tenzin’s table that held his family, Korra’s family, and Asami. “You don’t need luck, you’re a Beifong.”
You could feel your hands shake more and more the closer you got to the table. You knew Jinora was ready to be out with your relationship and it was you that was scared of people’s reactions... Well not really other people’s reaction, just your mom’s and Tenzin’s. But if your mom was okay with it then Tenzin was going to have to be too. You made eye contact with Korra and Asami as you walked up to the table, both girls sending you encouraging smiles. “Ah, Y/n, you clean up nicely.” Tenzin says with a small smile as he notices you walk up. “What can I help you with?” Spirits, it’s so hot in here. You felt like you were sweating buckets at this point. “Actually...” You voice shook a little with nerves and you pulled the collar of your shirt some away from your neck like it was choking you. “Actually...” Deep breaths, you got this, calm, cool, and collected. You kept repeating to yourself over and over again, calming your nerves. “I actually came over to ask Jinora for this dance...” You state as you turn to look at your girlfriend, who was hiding the shock on her face, so you didn’t have to see Tenzin’s reaction. “I would love to.” Jinora said with a big smile before grabbing your hand and dragging you to the dance floor.
“I think I’m going to pass out.” You state as you and Jinora start swaying side to side in rhythm with the slow song that was playing. Jinora giggles at your statement before looking up at you. “I’m surprised you even did that.” “Yeah well, turns out I can’t hide anything from my mom.” Jinora laughs again as she rests her head against your chest. “Well my dad doesn’t seem to freaked out.” She states and you take a second to look over to the table you had just been at. Korra and Asami were gone, Korra’s parents were still talking to each other and eating, you could see a frowning Meelo handing money over to Ikki, and Pema held a big smile on her face as she tried to discipline Meelo and Ikki about betting and making sure Rohan didn’t make a mess. Tenzin, of course, was still in a state of shock. You nod your head, “Yeah could be worse.”
---
“So the two of you are in a serious relationship?” Tenzin asks as he stands next to you. You nod your head as you watch Jinora mess with Rohan at the table while Pema was dealing with Ikki and Meelo. “I'm in love her.” You state adamantly, “I have been for eight years.” Tenzin’s eye went wide, “Since you were fifteen?” “Yeah but don’t worry we’ve only been dating for three.” You say with a proud smile that didn’t go unnoticed by Tenzin. Tenzin places a hand on your should causing you to look at him. “I was definitely shocked earlier when you came and asker her to dance but I know you are a strong individual and capable of taking care of my daughter... If you don’t I will make sure some spirits will come and deal with you.” Tenzin says threateningly. “I would try in throw you in jail but I don’t think Beifong would go for that.” He states like it was an afterthought. “Okayyyy...” Jinora says as she breaks into the conversation and grabs your hand. “No more threatening my s/o please.” She says as she dragged you onto the dance floor for the second time that night. “He didn’t say anything else did he?” Jinora asks as she looks up at you worriedly. “Nothing to concerning.” You jest as you lean your head down towards Jinora and give her a goofy grin. “I love you.” Jinora rolls her eyes in response before giving you a smile, “I love you too.”
Chapter One: Childhood Memories
Asami was never the kid to idolize heroes. Sure she thought they were cool, but she had no desire to become one. Even when the doctor made a comment about how she would make a great hero, the day her parents took her for her check up after getting her quirk. She had no desire to become a hero. She did however want to teach at UA High, and help people become heroes. It was a conflicting idea, but one she held onto.. She just didn’t see herself as a hero, but definitely as support.
“Hi mom!” Asami yelled rushing in the front door, kicking her shoes off before running up the stairs. She changed out of her school uniform, and rushed back down the stairs. Her mother was standing in the kitchen, cutting up the vegetables for dinner. She always made it home before everyone else to make sure things were clean, and dinner was ready by the time her husband made it home. Life for the Kurai family was very mundane, but strict in their ideals.
They were not supportive of the hero society. It was not an uncommon thing in this day and age. People were starting to lose interest in the heroes, and beginning to see them as nothing more than glorified celebrities. Both Mr. Kurai and Mrs. Kurai were relieved when Asami said she just wanted to be a teacher like them. She wasn’t old enough for them to explain that heroes are a dying culture, and that she shouldn’t idolize them. Asami still had her favorites though, so they let her hold onto ideals.
“I’m going to go to the hill to explore for a little bit to solve the mystery of the burnt grass!” Asami proclaimed, standing behind her mom who was still cutting up vegetables for dinner.
“Okay, just be back before it’s dark,” Her mom smiled at her overly curious daughter. Asami nodded her head, darting out the back door.
Through the small grove of trees and to a back hill. Asami had been coming here forever, and then a few months ago she started to find pieces of burnt grass. Sure someone could just be coming up here to have a campfire or something, but the burns seemed different. From what Asami could gather, the flames would’ve had to been stronger than just a camp fire. After all the grass wasn’t just burnt in some spots, it was as if the ground had been disintegrated.
“Whoah, what’re you doing?!” Asami froze, she never saw any other people up on this hill. There he was though, a boy with red hair that had white pieces flicked throughout it. He was glaring at her, and carrying a bag. Asami’s entire face went red at how close she was to the boy. He kept scanning over her face with his eyes, but he looked irritated.
Asami finally noticed the surroundings. The hill had smoke coming off of it, and the boy was covered in burns. It all started to click in her head, this boy was the one causing the burnt grass.
“You’re hurt!” Asami exclaimed, rushing forward. The boy tensed up as she touched the burns on him. She looked at the marks for a second, noting the other scars that were on his arms. Asami sighed, looking back up at him, “If you’re going to burn the landscape, you could at least try to not burn yourself,”
“Tch,” The boy yanked his arm away, “What would you know? My quirk is just so awesome, and it needs a little more training,”
“Your quirk hurting you isn’t awesome,” Asami rolled her eyes, “Come on, I’ll take you back to my house and get the burns cleaned up,”
“I don’t need some girls help,” The red and white haired boy glared, and Asami glared right back, knocking him up the side of the head.
“Do you have any manners?” Asami huffed, grabbing his hand trying to avoid the burns, “My name is Asami Kurai, and I’m going to help you with your burns,”
“You’re so annoying,” The boy mumbled, but still let her drag him along, “I’m Touya, Touya Todoroki.”
Asami led Touya back to her house. She held a finger up to her mouth, signaling for him to be quiet. They went in through the front door, both quietly sneaking up the stairs. She led Touya into her room, and he had to fight back the snicker at the small All Might plushie that was on her bed.
“You know Endeavor is the better hero right?” Touya smirked, “And when I’m bigger I am going to be even better than both Endeavor and All Might,”
“Well I’m sure you have a long way to go,” Asami laughed walking into the bathroom connected to her room to grab the medic kit, “After all you’re only like five right?”
“Huh?!” Touya yelled, and Asami smacked a hand over his mouth, both of them freezing to listen for if her mom heard her.
“Keep quiet!” Asami hissed, and opened up the med kit to get out the ointment. Touya watched as she carefully dabbed it onto his burns.
“I’m seven for your information,” Touya whispered, his face turning red when she looked up at him with a grin.
“Same age as me, sorry you just seemed small for our age,” Asami apologized, as she started to wrap his burns, “You’re Endeavor’s son right? You said your last name was Todoroki,”
“Yeah, yeah I am, his first born,” Touya said it proudly, “I am the one who will surpass him and All Might, it’s the goal he gave me himself,”
“Seems like a pretty big goal,” Asami giggled.
“Yeah well when I reach that goal, you can have a job at my hero agency, so you can always be there to bandage me up like this,” Touya said proudly, and Asami again just rolled her eyes.
“I’m not going to be a hero, I’m going to teach just like my mother and father, I’ll help at UA to train the next round of heroes,” Asami explained to Touya who looked at her completely confused, “I just don’t think my quirk would be good as a hero,”
“Well what is your quirk?” Touya looked at her, not understanding how someone could not want to be a hero. Everyone his age wanted to he a hero.
“I’ll show it to you another day,” Asami sighed, “After all its getting dark and I need to eat dinner soon,”
“Oh yeah okay,” Touya hopped off her bed, staring at her still, “Uhm, I uh train at the hill a lot if you want to come watch.”
And so she did. Everyday she would sneak off to the hill to watch her new found friend train. Bringing along the med kit to make sure if he got hurt she was right there. This became their ritual, and after an amount of weeks that turned into a year.. They were friends. Best friends actually. Touya eventually opened up to Asami, about everything. About why he was pushing so hard to become a hero, to keep using his quirk. Despite the burns.
“Mom had Shoto, his hair is split perfectly in half” Touya mumbled one day, sitting on the hill. Asami frowned at him, sitting down on the spot next to him. The sun was setting on the horizon, and she knew she needed to be home soon. Right now though, Touya needed her more.
“I guess that is what your father wanted?” Asami sighed, looking at her best friend, “If he would just see how far you’ve come, I mean really you’re getting so much better!”
“Thanks Mimi,” Touya used her pet name, but his voice was sad, “He’s just marked me as a failure in his eyes, and I don’t know if I can change his mind,”
“No, Touya you listen to me,” Asami demanded, “You are going to be an amazing hero, I’ve been doing research there are support items, ways for you to use your quirk without it damaging you!”
“Asami, you’re an amazing best friend, but maybe he’s right maybe if I stop obsessing over this,”
“You can’t give up on your dream Touya, promise me you won’t let him ruin this dream!” Asami yelled at Touya, “Come on, show me your flames!”
“Asami-”
“Touya, show me!”
Touya did show her, and his flames were ridiculously strong. Strong enough he was burnt more than ever before. The burns were so bad, but Touya was so excited. Asami tried her best to clean them up, but she just couldn’t. So he had to rush home. That night, Touya snapped for the first time. Almost hurting Shoto. Guilt filled him, but he also felt almost.. Disappointed?
After the incident Touya began focusing more on things like playing with his siblings and Asami. Finally the parents were allowing Asami to play with Touya at his house. After all, they were thirteen now. Growing up, and feelings adjusting to their age. Asami’s parents even referred to Touya as her boyfriend constantly, making both of their faces turn bright red. There was never any denying from either of them though, just silent red faces. Both of them knew that they had a crush on each other, so they were able to just hang out and have fun.
“Asami!” Fuyumi squealed, launching herself at the purple haired girl. Asami giggled, squeezing the girl, and then ruffling Natsuo’s hair. Touya walked into the entry way, smiling at Asami proudly.
“How was school today?” Touya grinned, he had stayed home due to not feeling good.
“Good! Weird without you, but good!” Asami grinned, “It’s so quiet in here today?”
“Yeah, the old man is gone,” Touya mumbled, “He and mom left, so the nanny is with Shoto,”
“They gave her strict rules to not let him anywhere near us,” Natsuo pouted, “I wish he could just play with us, just this once!”
Asami paused for a second. Before finally smiling proudly, coming up with an idea.
“He can.”
Touya looked at her for a second, before finally letting it click in his head. She was going to use her quirk. Asami had a quirk called Alternate Reality, basically she could make anyone believe they were somewhere else. As long as she didn’t hold it for too long, then she would be fine.
They slid open the door, earning the attention of both of them. Shoto looked confused, and the nanny annoyed. She went to shoo them out of the room, but fell directly into Asami’s trap.
“Shoto right?” Asami grinned, smiling at the boy. He nodded his head, cowering a little bit. Asami noticed the bumps and injuries on him. He looked exhausted.
“Big brother?” Shoto whispered, looking at Touya who was biting the inside of his cheek. Touya nodded his head, leaning down to his brothers eye level.
“We only have a little bit, so come play with us before he gets back,” Touya whispered, holding his hand out to Shoto. The youngest brother placed his small hand in his oldest brother’s. That was the first, and last time Shoto would interact with his siblings before everything fell apart.
Endeavor never found out about that day, but a few weeks later Touya went off the deep end. He distanced himself from Asami, and began training again. When winter break rolled around, Asami was close to giving up on him. Till she saw smoke coming from their meeting point. A lot of smoke, and bright blue flames. Asami took off out of the back door, her mother screaming for her. When she got to the hill, all she could see was it was engulfed in flames. A crowd was gathering, and within it all, she could hear Touya’s screams.
“No!” Asami screamed taking off towards the flames, someone grabbing her before she could go into the flames, “Touya! Touya please, no, just hold on!”
“Mimi! Please! They’re too much!” Touya’s voice was cracking, his throat going raw from screaming.
Anyone who was on the scene that day, would note that even when Touya’s screams faded out, Asami’s were just as haunting. Her parents finally coming to the hill too, grabbing their daughter from the stranger. Endeavor showed up on the scene, trying to go through the rubble, looking for any sign of his son. All they found that day was a piece of his jaw.
Endeavor approached the Kurai family, looking sadly at the girl. He knew that she was his best friend. He had watched them together.
“Asami-”
“This is your fault,” Asami yelled, shoving the larger man away from her, “All you had to do was be his father, to support him, to see him!”
“Asami!” Her father yelled, grabbing his daughter back. She smacked his hand away from her.
“You listen to me Endeavor, I am going to carry on Touya’s dream, but with my own twist, I am coming for you.”
Asami turned away from the scene. Wiping away her hysterical tears. Doing her best to keep it together. She walked back to her house, silently sobbing to herself. When she got back into her room, she began her plan. She didn’t give a damn about becoming number one, all she cared about was beating Endeavor.
In any way possible.
A Definitive History of Bubbline
Tumblr media
With “Obsidian” coming out in two days, it really is time for a definitive history of Marceline and Bubblegum’s relationship. And by that I mean the tumultuous road that led us to “Obsidian” from a production and fandom point of view. For a list of Bubbline episodes, check out my Bubbline Guide (and part two) - which I need to update, I know I know. For this post, I wanted to highlight how far this pairing has come and what Bubbline means to queer representation in children’s cartoons.
This is less of an analysis and more of an overview with links to more information on specific incidents to keep it (relatively) brief. I say it’s a definitive history but it isn’t an exhaustive one, so do check out the links included to learn more about how we got here. I realize not everyone cares about these kinds of things but I think it’s important to know how hard Adventure Time’s creators had to fight. Bubbline is a pioneer ship in many ways but it doesn’t always get the recognition it deserves.
Initial Concepts
As is the case with much of Adventure Time, the initial concept of who the characters of Bonnibel and Marceline were going to be is very different than what we ended up getting. @gunterfan1992 explores this and other production tidbits in depth in his book so I do recommend checking that out. The short version is that these two were created to be opposites and with a Betty and Veronica type dynamic in mind where they would both be love interest to the protagonist, Finn.
This didn’t quite end up being the case but remnants of this concept are seen in “Go With Me” (March, 2011), the episode with the first on-screen Bubbline interaction. As Marcy helps - and sabotages - Finn in asking Bonnie out, she also becomes a potential love interest for him but she shuts him down immediately. So while Finn’s crush on PB continues, the notion that Marceline would be part of a love triangle is dismissed. Instead, this first Bonnie and Marcy interaction established that the two already know each other and there’s some bitterness in that past.
“What Was Missing” and the Mathematical Controversy
A potential preexisting relationship between the two was further explored in “What Was Missing” (September 2011) just a season later. The episode was written and storyboarded by Rebecca Sugar and eventual showrunner Adam Muto. Sugar was responsible for much of the character depth added to Marceline and later even played, quite aptly, her mother in the Stakes miniseries. It was Sugar who wrote the now beyond iconic “I’m Just Your Problem” based on personal experiences and suggested that Marcy and Bonnie be queer characters with a complicated romantic past.
“What Was Missing” was hugely important in how it hinted at a complex relationship through character interactions, Marceline’s song, and the last scene twist with PB’s shirt. The AT crew were supportive of the idea and sneaked in plenty of queer subtext, but this is where I have to point out that 2011 was a very different time and it’s thanks, in part, to Bubbline that things have changed. Autostraddle’s article from back when covers what is now known as the Mathematical controversy. Audiences picked up on the subtext and Cartoon Network was not having it. The popularity of the ship soared but the execs were not taking to queer implications kindly.
Great Bubbline Drought
So, the ship has sailed but controversy looms over it. “What Was Missing” s subtle by today’s standards but it was enough to keep Marceline and Bubblegum apart for two years on-screen. Each character went through wonderful development in the meantime, as did the show itself, but there’s a certain sense of bitterness to what came to be known as the Great Bubbline Drought. CN got so afraid of the potential backlash that they waited two years to have a new episode featuring the pair, “Sky Witch” (July 2013), by which point Sugar had left AT to work on her own show, Steven Universe. I’m happy that Sugar got to create her own show and push for even more queer representation, but it’s also sad that she never got to write more for the ship she pioneered.
“Sky Witch” still happened, though, and featured even more subtext, from PB’s side this time around. The shirt returned and there was hope as Marcy and Bonnie were seen hanging out together more often (”Red Starved” and “Princess Day”). Another controversy threatened to emerge in August 2014 when Olivia Olson, Marceline’s voice actress said that creator Pendleton Ward had confirmed a pre-show Bubbline romance. It was a messy ordeal with deleted tweets and questions about whether the two could get together again in the series. Fortunately, though, things changed in the three years between 2011 to 2014 and another Bubbline drought didn’t follow.
The Season That Changed Everything
It took another two years after “Sky Witch” but the ball was finally, inevitably, relentlessly rolling. “Varmints” premiered in November 2015 and three episodes later, the Stakes miniseries kicked off. What season 7 meant wasn’t just breadcrumbs and (not so) subtle songs anymore: suddenly, there were too many Bubbline moments to count. “Varmints” served as a follow-up to “What Was Missing” and a final reconciliation, and though Stakes was primarily about Marcy, it also developed her relationship with Bonnie. Afterwards, it became clear that Bubbline was heading somewhere.
It’s worth noting that the cultural context also changed between when “Sky Witch” and “Varmints” aired. In December 2014, The Legend of Korra ended with Korra and Asami beginning their romantic relationship, and Rebecca Sugar was making Steven Universe more and more explicitly queer by the day. Adventure Time started the ball rolling but now it wasn’t alone as a popular Western cable cartoon with queer characters. However, Bubbline was still very much subtext at this point, just with significantly more hope of becoming more.
Late Series Entanglement
But at what point does subtext become plain text? Bubbline fans sure did have fun with that question between Stakes and the finale. Bonnie and Marcy became near inseparable, with most of their major appearances involving one another from this point on. These included the meet the adoptive dad date “Broke His Crown” (March 2016), the Elements miniseries (April 2017) and the nigh on obnoxiously on the nose “Marcy & Hunson” (December 2017). In fact, all but two of Marceline’s major appearances from season 7 on included Bonnie - the exceptions being “Everything Stays” as part of Stakes, and “Ketchup”, which really wasn’t any less gay.
Bubbline moments really did become too many to count, with the vast majority of them having romantic implications. And with queer representation becoming more and more prominent in Western animation, canon Bubbline romance seemed like a question of when rather than if. I’d like to point out here how this was often frustrating, though. After the very rocky start, this relationship was thriving and was really basically confirmed, but that last little push to make it undeniably a part of queer history was still needed.
“Come on!” - The End and Beyond
The almost three years that passed between Stakes and “Come Along With Me” (September 2018) were much more tolerable than the Drought; after all, there was plenty of Bubbline content in the later seasons. The big question as the finale came was whether Adventure Time would fizzle out on its early pioneer of a wlw ship or follow through, once and for all. Almost four years after LoK ended and just before season 1 of She-Ra and the Princesses of Power dropped, Marcy and Bonnie had an emotional moment, kissed on screen, and ended the series together.
The intricacies of why a kiss was needed as a signifier of romance is a discussion for another day. But wouldn’t it have been strange after almost a decade of build-up for them not to seal the deal with a kiss? And to think it almost didn’t happen, as by that point it was so obvious they were together. Again, I direct your attention towards Paul Thomas’s book, he explains how it was storyboard artist Hanna K. Nyström’s call to add this final detail. Because, come on! Sometimes, you need to be as clear as possible, and that’s the case with queer representation in animation.
Since the finale, the comics have been continuing the Bubbline train - which are not technically canon but one can have fun regardless. In any case, the existence of Marcy and Bonnie’s relationship, of their queer identities, is not something that can reasonably be denied. It was a long road, and, make no mistake, an arduous one, but this is the story of a win. A win for storytelling and a win for wlw relationships.
We’ll Build Our Own Forever
So, there you have it, a Bubbline timeline of sorts. In March of 2011 we had the first on-screen interaction and now, in November of 2020, we’re getting a 45-minute-long special with the two of them as the central characters. They’re canonically in love, with King Princess covers of Bubbline songs and more. I tried to contain myself, for once, and not write too much. I think it’s important that people have a general idea of just how monumental all of this is and how, even just 9 years ago, “Obsidian” would have been totally inconceivable.
Some of this might have come as a surprise to you. It’s certainly not been easy to get to where we are now with Bubbline and it’s yet to be seen how open “Obsidian” will be about the relationship. I’ve been talking about Bubbline for years and attempted to chronicle their relationship many times so I’m happy I’ve finally done it from this perspective as well.
Adventure Time: Distant Lands “Obsidian” is streaming on Nov 19 on HBO Max. If you can, stream it so we can show that there’s popular demand for stories like that of an angry vampire and a despotic piece of gum.
LOOKS LIKE WE’RE SOULMATES
@korrasami-valentine-exchange this is my fic for the exchange! I’m Soulmates A. I hope I’m posting it correctly.
Summary: With Valentine’s Day drawing near, Korra and Asami just want to find their soulmate.
Read on ao3
KORRA SLUMPED BACK on her pillow, growling at her computer. She absolutely hated essays. Give her a model to make or a poster to design and she’d have it done in minutes, but essays took her centuries. At this point she would drop out if it meant she’d never have to write another essay.
“Essays again?” Opal, her roommate asked from her bunk below.
“What, like I’d be complaining about anything else right now?” Korra retorted, leaning over to glare at her friend.
“You’re either complaining about essays or not finding your soulmate yet.”
Korra rubbed her wrist, where her soul mark was. It was a dark crescent moon that would change color after she met her soulmate. It was as dark as ever. “I’m totally walking into this, but it’s just unfair! You found Bolin years ago, and Mako found Wu soon after! I’m the only one in our friend group who hasn’t found them.”
Opal sighed and set down her book. They had this conversation practically three times a day, and each time Opal suggested something new that Korra would refuse. Today was no different. Glaring at Korra, her friend stood from her bunk. “Maybe if you didn’t cover your wrists all the time, you’d find them.”
Korra shrank back. She always covered her wrists when she left her dorm, either with bracelets or long sleeves. Most people her age were blissfully happy with their soulmate by now, and she didn’t need the embarrassment of being alone. “What if they don’t even live nearby? What if I go my whole life without finding them? What if — what if they’re dead?” Korra choked out the last question. She didn’t want to think about her soulmate being gone. She didn’t even know them, and yet the idea of never meeting them — of never being able to meet them — was unthinkable.
Opal sighed. “You’re overthinking this. You’ll meet them eventually. It could take a long time, but you won’t live your whole life without them. It’s practically impossible.”
“I hope you’re right.”
-
ASAMI CURSED AS she dropped her wrench. Twisting around to grab it without getting out from under the car, she half-expected someone to offer her help or ask if she was okay — like her father normally would.
No one came.
Which was expected, since she was the only one currently working, but it still got lonely. Ever since her father had died a year ago, she had been forced to run the mechanics shop with few employees and questionable schedules.
And with no friends, it got incredibly lonely all the time. Before, at least she had had her father and the few other employees. But after he had died, they had all gone to different companies. Companies that could pay better. And so now, she was alone.
Often, she wondered what it would be like to have found her soulmate. To have someone who loved her no matter what. Someone who was destined to be with her, to love her. To have someone always there for her, who wouldn’t ever leave her. It was starting to be a foreign feeling.
Her gaze landed on her gloved wrist that held her soul mark — a dark crescent moon. She checked it daily after work on the off chance that one of her customers was them, and was always looking for someone with the same mark. So far, she’d had no such luck.
Asami went back to her job, thoughts of finding her soulmate in increasingly unrealistic ways filling her mind. When she finished, she pushed herself out from under the car and started putting her tools away, freezing when she caught sight of someone standing in the doorway.
That someone was a very pretty girl. Her dark hair was cut short around her shoulders, framing her face and making her friendly smile and blue eyes look even prettier. Her skin was a warm brown, and she wore sweatpants and a blue Republic City University hoodie. She looked mildly familiar, but she couldn’t place why, and it didn’t explain why her heart started beating faster or why she felt the urge to make sure she had no grease stains on her face.
“I was starting to think no one was here,” said the girl, looking around. “It’s really empty.”
“I’m the only one working today,” Asami responded. “You can always knock, and if no one repsonds just give us a call and we’ll get back to you as soon as we can.”
The girl smiled as Asami approached her. She played with her gloves, nearly taking them off before realizing her soul mark would show, and she didn’t want this girl to see it — didn’t want the pity. So she settled for resting them by her sides.
“What can I do for you?” Asami asked.
The girl jerked her head in the direction of the parking lot. “My car has been making weird noises for the last few days.”
Asami nodded. “Which one is yours?”
The girl led her to her car, an old blue thing. “This is it.”
Asami walked around it, looking at it from different angles. “I’ll probably have to keep it overnight and look at it tomorrow. It’s almost closing time.” Asami looked up and met the girl’s eyes, and quickly looked away, hoping her blush wasn’t noticeable. “How should I contact you?”
“You can call me or send me a text,” the girl said. “I’m Korra, by the way.”
Of course she was Korra, Asami thought as she handed her her phone. Korra was the star player on the soccer team, and incredibly popular. They had a few classes together, but had never really spoken.
“I’m Asami,” she said, taking her phone back from Korra.
“I know,” said Korra, then quickly added, “I mean — it was on the information site. That you owned this place.”
Asami smiled. “I do.”
The silence dragged on, neither making a move to end it.
Korra cleared her throat. “So, you’ll call me when you’re done?”
“Yep.”
“Great, I can’t wait!”
-
KORRA RAN FORWARD and kicked the ball. And completely missed the goal.
She growled. She didn’t know what was going on, but she’d been off balance ever since she had taken her car to Future Industries Mechanics. She couldn’t shake Asami out of her mind. Her green eyes, the way her hair shone in the light and looked really fluffy. They say she kept playing with her gloves, the grease stain across her cheek. She wanted to know Asami Sato, and she wasn’t sure why.
“That’s the third time you’ve missed the goal today,” her coach, Kuvira, said. “What’s going on?”
Korra sighed and rubbed her forehead. “I don’t know. I’ll do better tomorrow, I promise.”
“You better. We have a game next week, and we need you in top shape,” Kuvira said with crossed arms. Then she lowered her voice and asked, “Did you find your soulmate?”
If it was anyone else, she probably would have punched them, but Kuvira was almost a friend to her — a friend who happened to be her soccer coach, but still. “No. At least, I don’t think so. I haven’t checked.”
“Ah, so you met someone who you hope is your soulmate, but you’re too scared to check in case you’re let down.”
“Yeah . . .”
Kuvira smirked. “Well, then I guess it’s a good thing practice is over.” She jerked her head toward the locker rooms. “Go figure it out. I’m sure it’ll all work out.”
“I’m sure it’ll all work out.” That was the phrase that Korra had been hearing more and more the older she got, the longer she went without a soulmate. Right, because it was easy to think things would work out when you had been happy with your soulmate for years. But to Korra, it was hard to think she’d ever find them. Everyone around her had found theirs, so why couldn’t she? Sure, there were people who found them when they were in their thirties or even older, so she hadn’t lost all hope, but it was still her soulmate. Of course she wanted to find them as soon as she could.
She sighed, and entered one of the shower stalls. She pulled up her sleeve, not expecting anything different, but froze when she saw that her soul mark was not the same as it had been before. Instead of the same pitch black it usually was, it was a mess of different colors. There were pinks and blues and reds and greens and oranges and yellows and colors she couldn’t even name.
A wide grin grew on her face as she realized what this meant. She had found them! She had found her soulmate, after all the years. And she knew just who it was.
Deciding to shower later, she stuffed her belongings back in her bag and ran. She passed by Kuvira in the hall, who simply smiled knowingly.
Korra headed to the parking lot before remembering her car was still with Asami — funny that her car was where she wanted to be, but not her. She hesitated for a second, trying to decide if she wanted to run there or wait for a bus.
“Fuck public transportation,” Korra said, sprinting down the street. She’d get there faster on her own anyway.
Everything blurred around her as she ran, only her destination in her mind. She was dimly aware of traffic and horns honking and annoyed glares around her. Not that she cared. She was going to get to Asami if she had to trample everyone in her path.
By the time she entered the mechanics shop, her bag was hanging off her elbow, and she was sweatier than before, causing her hair and clothes to stick to her. Still, that didn't stop her excitement from creeping into her voice as she yelled, “Asami!” in time with her bag sliding off her arm and hitting the floor.
There was a muffled crash and a curse, and then Asami appeared from behind a car, rubbing her head. Her hair was tied back in a ponytail, a few strands falling into her face. She wore the same mechanics uniform from before, riddled with grease stains.
Asami furrowed her brows. “Korra? Your car isn’t ready yet. I said I’d call you when it was.”
Korra crossed the room, practically flying with excitement. “No, I know. It’s just, well, this.”
She held her wrist up in Asami’s face. Asami looked confused at first, unsure why she was showing her her soul mark, before her eyes widened in realization. Asami scrambled to pull off her work gloves. “Spirits,” she breathed, staring down at her identical wrist. She looked up and met Korra’s eye. “I don’t — how?”
“How are we soulmates?” Korra said. “Easy. We just are.”
Asami shook her head, though she was smiling. “No, I mean, how have we not figured it out sooner? We have classes together.”
Korra grinned and leaned her elbow on the car in front of her, staring Asami right in the eye. “But have we ever talked before?”
Asami shook her head.
“Exactly.”
Asami studied her arm for a few seconds before looking up at Korra. “So, if we’re soulmates . . .”
“We should probably talk about it,” Korra finished. “Tomorrow night. Valentine’s Day. We go on a date. We talk about the whole soulmate thing. We live happily for the rest of our days.”
Asami snorted. “Sounds perfect.”
“Good, because I wasn’t going to take no for an answer.”
-
“YOU WON’T BELIEVE what happened!” Korra yelled, slamming the door to her dorm behind her.
Bolin, who was holding a bowl of popcorn, jumped and dropped the bowl. “Would it hurt to give a little warning next time?” he grumbled and he knelt to clean up the mess.
Mako snorted from the couch. “Maybe you should know she’ll do that stuff by now.”
“Oh, shut up.”
“Guys please,” Korra said. “What happened today.”
Wu snapped his fingers and pointed at her. “You learned that we’re all living in a simulation and nothing is real.”
“. . . no?”
“You learned that fairies are real and we’re all giants,” Bolin offered, earning a glare from Opal, who was in her bunk.
“Let her speak,” she said.
Korra rocked back on her heels, before blurting out, “I found my soulmate!”
Wu gasped. “That was going to be my next guess!”
Mako snorted, tightening his arm around his shoulders. “Sure it was.”
“That’s great, Korra,” Opal said. “Who is it?”
“Asami Sato.”
Bolin sat down next to Opal, having given up on popcorn. “Isn’t she in some of your classes?”
Korra nodded slowly. “A few, I think. But I’ve never actually talked to her until now.”
“How’d you meet her?” Mako asked.
“Car problems. Obviously.”
“Right. Obviously.”
“You know,” Opal said. “Her dorm is in the same building. She lives on her own, I think.”
Korra grinned, and her eyes seemed to brighten. Her soulmate living in the same building as her? It was the next best thing compared to actually living with her. Still, it would make seeing her easier. She wouldn’t have to worry about her car breaking down — though that would give her an excuse to see Asami whenever she wanted. “Does she?” Honestly, it was surprising that she hadn’t figured it out sooner. There had been so many opportunities for them to talk, but they only did when Korra’s old car broke down?
“Yeah. You should go talk to her.”
Korra shook her head. “I just got back from talking to her. We’re going out tomorrow.”
“Valentine’s Day?”
Korra grinned. “What better day to get to know your soulmate than the day of love?”
-
ASAMI PACED AROUND her small shop. She was supposed to be closing up, but all she could think about was what had happened earlier.
She had found her soulmate.
More specifically, she had found out Korra, the star of the soccer team, one of the most well-known girls, daughter of the mayor, quite possibly the most beautiful girl she’d ever met, was her soulmate.
Of all things, she was surprised they’d never met before, but with how different their lives were, she honestly wasn’t surprised.
Asami locked the door behind her as she left, and headed to her car. She paused when she passed Korra’s car.
Trailing a hand over the hood, she was overcome with fantasies of the future. Of dates with Korra in the front seat. Of snuggling up on cold days. Of laughing and joking as they rode to classes. Of seeing Korra when her car was finished.
This car, Korra’s car, was a mark of the future, and it was one she would forever be grateful for.
-
VALENTINE’S DAY CAME, and Korra was freaking out.
“Korra, you look fine,” Opal said for the fifth time.
Korra tugged at her collar again. She had decided to wear a blue suit, with a black shirt underneath. She had left her jacket unbuttoned, open to hang at her sides, but now she was questioning if it was the right choice. “But what if I picked the wrong color suit and our outfits clash?”
Opal rolled her eyes. “Since when have you cared about your appearance that much?”
“But she’s my soulmate!” Korra protested. “I want everything to be perfect.”
Opal stood from her bed and crossed the room. Placing her hands on Korra’s shoulders, she stared into her very soul. “Korra. You are taking her out for dinner and then stargazing. Your date plan is fine. She is your soulmate. She’ll like it regardless. Look, I know your first date with your soulmate is nerve wracking. I’ve been through it. But you’re going to be fine. You’ll be laughing halfway through and wonder why you were ever so nervous. You’ll be fine.”
Korra took a deep breath and shook her nerves away. “You’re right. We’re going to dinner. We’re going to get to know each other and talk about this whole soulmate thing. It’s going to be fine.”
Opal grinned. “Good. Now get going. Bolin is going to be here any minute and I don’t want you here.”
Korra laughed and crossed to the door, winking at Opal — who rolled her eyes — before leaving.
There were plenty of couples in the hall, all heading out to do their couple-y thing. It was weird to think that after years of moping at home and wishing to all the stars she could remember the names of, that she would be joining them soon.
Weird, but absolutely exhilarating.
Korra stopped in front of Asami’s door. Taking a deep breath, she steeled her nerves and knocked.
The door opened immediately, like Asami had been waiting for her. Korra’s greeting stuck in her throat. Asami looked absolutely beautiful. Her red dress hugged her waist and danced around her like feathers in the wind. The sleeves flowed around her arms and cinched around her wrists. Her hair tumbled around her shoulders, her lips painted the same shade as her dress, her eyes lined with black. She was even more beautiful than Korra thought.
Korra was shaken out of her thoughts by Asami laughing. “You’re staring,” she said, causing Korra to blush. “But you look very pretty yourself.”
Korra grinned. “Really? I was worried the blue was overdoing it.”
Asami laughed again. “It goes well with red.”
“Does it? I had no idea.”
“It does. Are you going to tell me what you have planned for tonight, or is that a surprise?”
Korra bit her lip. “I can tell you we’re going out to dinner, but after that is a surprise.”
“Dinner sounds nice.”
Grinning, Korra looped her arm with Asami’s and led her down the hall. “You’re going to love it.”
-
ASAMI DID LOVE it. Korra had taken her to a diner with mostly outdoor seating. The seating area was filled with plants of all sorts, with flowers of all different colors. It almost looked like the garden was one huge soul mark. Lanterns lined the walkways, making her feel like their path was glowing.
Korra led her down one of the many pathways, grinning widely. That grin was one Asami could get used to seeing — she was quickly falling in love with it.
“Wow Korra, this is amazing,” she said, stumbling slightly as Korra jerked her around a corner.
“Sorry!” her soulmate-maybe-girlfriend squeaked. “Our table is up here.”
Asami looked around, noticing they hadn’t passed any more tables in a while. “Why are the tables so spaced out anyway?”
“This restaurant is for soulmates who have just met to get to know each other. The tables are so far apart for privacy. Each table is supposed to have a bowl of conversation starters with weird questions. Get to know the small stuff before what they do for a living, I guess.”
Asami laughed. “This is amazing,” she repeated.
Korra raised an eyebrow. “Really? It’s not that creative.”
“To be fair, we only met yesterday.”
Korra stopped. “This is us.”
The table was in a small alcove surrounded by flower pots. It was a typical outdoor seating table — metal, with chairs that would probably be uncomfortable after a while. The center of the table had a small bowl with different slips of paper sitting in it. Conversation starters.
Asami unlooped her arm from Korra’s and sat. Her soulmate did the same.
They spent a few seconds staring at each other and grinning. Spirits, Korra was pretty, with her short hair and minimal makeup that looked like it had been put on last minute, and the blue suit that matched her eyes.
She could have spent hours staring into those eyes that seemed to hold the depths of the world within them. They were the ocean and the sky and warm rain.
Asami looked away and cleared her throat. “So, should we use these conversations starters, or should we go through the basic ‘get to know me’ questions?”
Grinning, Korra placed her chin on her hand. “Tell me about Future Industries.”
Asami grinned. She could’ve talked about anything just to talk to Korra, but talking about one of the things she loved most was even better. “It was supposed to expand from one small mechanics shop to a whole company, but my father died before he could finish all the business stuff, and I’m not in the place to do it on my own. A lot of the employees quit after he died, looking for better work, so I don’t have enough money — or time, with school. I want to expand in the future though.”
Korra nodded. “Seems important.”
“It is,” Asami agreed. “Forgetting about the fact that I love the work, my father started the company and I feel like I’d be forgetting him if I didn’t make it worth it.”
Korra smiled softly. “You wouldn’t be forgetting him.”
Asami shrugged. “What about you? What do you want to do with your life?”
“Okay, so I know I should know by now, but I’m not completely sure. I mean, I focus a lot on soccer and martial arts and could easily do something with that. But I could also help my dad in politics, which would be fine.”
“As long as you’re doing what you want,” Asami said. “And something you went to school for.”
Korra laughed. “Anything other than Future Industries I should know about you?”
“What, like a secret identity I hide behind to fight crime?” Asami said with a laugh. “Nothing that huge. Basic stuff you’ll probably know with those conversation starters. I don’t really have any friends. I major in mechanics. I run Future Industries. I want to expand. That’s it really.”
Korra nodded. “Well, you should know my roommate and friends can be annoying. I was the last to find my soulmate, and they teased me for it a lot. And they’re just annoying in general.”
“I think I can deal with annoying roommates.”
“Good, because you’ll be dealing with them a lot,” Korra said, playing with the slips of paper. “So, those conversation starters.”
-
KORRA TOOK ASAMI to the roof of their dorm building. Korra wasn’t sure Asami would like it, but by the way Asami gasped and turned in a slow circle to look at the view, she was pretty sure she did.
“I know I said dinner was amazing,” Asami started, “but this is amazing.”
“Never came up to the roof before?” Korra asked, setting a blanket that she’d snagged from her dorm down on the ground. She sat and patted the ground next to her.
“You’re allowed to come up here?” Asami asked as she sat down and leaned her head on Korra’s shoulder.
“Er — no, not usually,” Korra said, rubbing her next. “But a family friend runs this place, so I get special permission. Figured I might as well use it.”
Grinning, Asami leaned back on her elbows and looked at the sky. “I wish I could see the stars.”
Korra leaned back too. “You can see them better in the country, at my family’s farm.”
“Your family has a farm?”
“My grandparents. We visit every summer.”
Asami hummed. “Do you know a lot about the stars?”
Grinning, Korra reached a hand up to the sky like she could pick a star out of the sky. “I sure do.”
Asami sighed. “Tell me everything you can.”
“Everything?”
“Everything.”
And so the two laid there, Asami’s head on Korra’s chest and Korra’s hand tangled in Asami’s hair as Korra told everything she knew of the stars. Asami listened, and though she didn’t understand much of what she was listening to, all she cared about was that it was Korra, her soulmate, talking, and that was all that mattered.
At long last, both girls had found their soulmate.
fake dating: 12 with korrasami!
trope writing prompts: send a number and a pairing :)
“I almost thought this was a real date”
-
For the longest time, Asami had been trying to get Mako to notice her. She assumed it wouldn’t be so hard, the other boys had thrown themselves at her countless times when she got to high school. She casted them aside, told them, “I’m not looking for a relationship right now.” or “You’re very sweet, but I’ll have to decline.” She hated seeing those boys so sad, so heartbroken from rejection, but she wouldn’t say yes unless a certain someone with wild eyebrows popped the question.
It was all Korra ever heard about and she hated it.
Korra was only a year younger than Asami but after the two girls got paired together in their gym class to play badminton, they were inseparable. It wasn’t long before Korra developed feelings for her and she would’ve tried her luck with asking, had she not seen the trail of broken hearts left by Asami. If only the heart Asami wanted was hers.
With Asami being a senior now, it felt like the minutes ticked away faster and Korra would be saying goodbye to her at graduation within the hour. Asami was the smartest person in her class, quite possibly the smartest in the school district. She’d be leaving for an elite, fancy academy in Zaofu; too far for Korra to visit regularly, too advanced for her to try and get into. Even with the history presented in front of her, if she’d get anything at all from Asami, maybe a broken heart wouldn’t be so bad.
The annual Spring Festival was taking place in Republic City and as usual, the girls spoke of how excited they were to be going. They were eating lunch in the cafeteria, Korra noticed Asami’s sly glances to where Mako sat with the other soccer players.
It hurt to speak, but she did anyways, “You still want him to ask you to go, don’t you?”
Asami sighed, bringing her eyes back down to her sandwich, “Have I been dumb, Korra? I mean, I’ve been stupid, right? Waiting on a boy who can’t seem to make it clear whether he wants to be official or not?” She leans forward, “I mean, we text but not all the time, we hang out but only ever once in a while. Do you think I did something wrong? It’s been years, Korra, and he still hasn’t asked me out.”
Korra shook her head, “What? You, dumb? It’s actually illegal for those two things to even be in the same sentence.”
She looked over at Mako, who was chugging his Gatorade while his friends cheered him on. She never understood what Asami saw in him, but she always wanted Asami to have what she wanted. “Clearly Mako doesn’t realize what he has...” A thought struck in her head, one far too crazy, too insane, but maybe that was what she needed. “What if we make him realize it? He’ll definitely make things official if he thinks you’re about to be off the market.”
“How? None of the other guys in the school want to go with me to the festival, and even if there are, I probably turned them down,” Asami frowned. It was one of her greatest flaws, turning others away for an out of reach person; she knew it.
Korra knew it too, yet it never stopped her heart from pounding faster when they would walk hand in hand at the mall, never stopped the butterflies that ravaged her tummy, never soothed the ache in her cheeks from smiling when she was with her.
“...What if I took you?” It was almost a mumble, the nerves kicking into overdrive. “I mean, we’ll already be going together, and if we just up the PDA and stuff, he’ll get the message.”
Asami stopped, her eyes falling softly, “You’d do that for me?”
Korra gulped, I’d do anything for you, “Well, yeah. So, that’s a yes?”
With a few furious nods, Asami threw her arms around Korra; it was the most bittersweet hug Korra ever received.
At the festival, Korra made sure to always have Asami’s hand intertwined with hers. If it wasn’t, her arm was wrapped around Asami’s waist. Asami tried to look around for Mako but Korra assured her she had it covered. She told Asami to enjoy herself. Korra bought her all the festival foods and even won her a few prizes from the game booths. Korra noticed Mako following behind them after she won Asami a third flying bison plushy. That was when she placed a gentle kiss on Asami’s cheek.
She thought she saw Asami blush, the girl looked away and pushed a piece of hair behind her ear. Korra told herself it was what she wanted to see and whispered in Asami’s ear if what she did was okay. Asami smiled and nodded, giving Korra a hug for another stuffed toy.
The fireworks were always the best part of the festival, so naturally, Korra and Asami were going to stay to watch them. Korra bought another round of meat skewers and the girls sat at one of the picnic tables.
“You’ve been so sweet, Korra,” Asami said through her bites. She looked over at the prizes on the other end of the table: three flying bison plushies, a fire ferret plushy, a mini otter penguin doll, a giant bag of sugar candies, and cheap, but admittedly cute, sunglasses. “I almost thought this was a real date.”
Korra choked, coughing lightly in her seat. Asami offered her some water, which Korra took and sipped in desperation. When she settled, she let out some uneasy laughs, “Real date?” I want this to be a real date. Oh, fuck it, “Well, I--”
“Hey, Asami,” Mako ran up to their table. He looked over, “Korra.”
Asami stared up at him expectantly, almost dropping her skewer in anticipation.
“I was wondering if you wanted to watch the fireworks together? I know a good spot.”
Asami peered over at Korra, she’d never looked like that with her. Korra felt a sting in her chest, giving a small nod. Asami quickly got up, taking the offered hand from Mako, and left the picnic table.
“I was hoping this could be a real date,” Korra mumbled. She looked at the plush toys, “At least I have you guys.”
Regrets - Chapter Seven
AO3 Link - I’m feeling a bit better about this fic so I’m posting an update on here. I’d say this one is almost halfway done now
“Chief! Chief I found something!”
Lin turned from the board of papers and photographs she had set up across one of the walls of her office to see Detective Chen come running into the room, nearly sliding across the floor as he came to a stop. It had been two days and Lin hadn’t slept at all as she flung herself into researching everything she could about the case. Chen held a small black book in his hand.
“What did you find?”
Chen was catching his breath as he handed it over to her.
“It’s a diary. From Jia, the woman who…”
Kidnapped my daughter.
Lin finished the sentence in her head as she flipped through the pages. It appeared to be a diary of sorts. There was an entry that had evidently been bookmarked, most likely by her detective.
“I worked at the hospital part time and was approached by a man to kidnap a baby after it was born. At first I said no but he offered me more money than I make at the hospital in five years. I knew how horrible it was but figured I could just treat it like a job and tried not to think about it too much after I said yes.
The day came and there were complications. I had the opportunity to say the infant didn’t survive. I thought this would make things easier for my boss. But then I couldn’t follow through. I couldn’t hand this perfect little girl over to him. I don’t even know what organization he was from.
I didn’t know who the baby belonged to before I agreed to the job. And I’m ashamed to admit that even after I found out I couldn’t bring myself to come forward. She was my daughter now.
The Avatar’s son moved on and had kids of his own and I saw how busy the Police Chief was with her job. She didn’t have time for a child anyway.”
Lin stopped reading, flinging the book across the room before she damaged the evidence. There was a pressure building inside her and thought her heart was going to beat out of her chest. This was undeniable proof that this missing girl was… that her daughter wasn’t…
She slammed a fist down on her desk, the whole thing buckling in on itself as the metal crunched and twisted. Chen didn’t say anything as he stood quietly, waiting for his Chief to gather herself. It took a couple minutes of slow, steady breathing before Lin found herself able to speak.
“Are there any leads on the girl’s location or who may have taken her?”
“No, Chief. I’m sorry. We haven’t found anything.”
Lin walked around her mangled desk and slumped into her chair.
“Thank you, detective. Let me know if you get any leads.”
“Yes, chief!”
He left and Lin carefully picked up her phone from the ground. It only took two rings for Kya to pick up which meant she must have been waiting near it.
“Lin?”
She felt a lump in throat, trying to steady her voice but it still cracked when she spoke.
“Kya, it’s her. It’s really her.”
Lin let out a gasp, quickly pulling her face from the phone and covering her mouth to stop the sob that threatened to open a dam of emotions she was struggling to contain. Kya didn’t speak for a moment and when she did her voice was soft and kind.
“We’ll find her, Lin. I promise. Will you please come home? Just for tonight?”
Never promise the victim’s family that you’ll bring their loved one home safe because that’s not a promise you can always keep. The bitter thought was automatic. The very basics of dealing with missing persons cases. Lin never imagined she’d be on this side of things and yet here she was.
“I’ll be home in a bit.”
“I love you, Lin.”
“Love you, too.”
They hung up and Lin walked to her case board, carefully unpinning a photo of the dark haired girl and studying every inch of her.
Rei.
Her daughter.
 ____________________
The next day Lin was back at the station before the sun had even come up. She had spent the morning in a terrible mood, yelling at anyone that crossed her path and unfairly belittling her own officers for not having more information for her.
She retreated to her office and started reading more passages from the diary they had recovered from the girl’s apartment. There were dozens of passages, mostly the random thoughts of the woman who wrote them. But there were also many excerpts about her daughter.
“Rei said her first word today. I was hoping it would be mama because she’s been so close but instead she’s been repeating the phrase “uh oh” over and over again. I’m not sure when she picked it up but it melts my heart every time I hear it.”
“She’s an earthbender!! I was sweeping the back steps today when I tripped and cursed at the stairs. Rei was sitting nearby and waddled over. She yelled at the stone stairs for hurting her mommy and then proceeded to make a dramatic and sloppy movement with her arms that caused the entire top stair to break away and go flying across the yard. I’m so proud! I’m going to have find someone to teach her pretty soon, though, otherwise she’s going to start doing some real damage.”
“We saw Chief Beifong today and I’ve never been so scared in my life. Rei and I were walking down the street when a bunch of police cars came flying up the street. The car they were chasing lost control and I quickly grabbed Rei and braced us for impact as it came right for us. I felt something wrap around us before we were yanked away. The Chief came up and asked if we were okay before running to the car that had nearly killed us, dragging a couple of bank thieves from within. I didn’t stick around. I just picked up Rei and ran home.”
Lin was frozen as she reread the passage again and again. She remembered that day. She remembered pulling the woman and child out of the path of that car. Once she knew they were safe she hadn’t even paid them another moment’s notice. The date indicated that Rei had been 4 years old at that time. Shouldn’t she have recognized her? Why didn’t she recognize her?
There was a soft knock on her door and Tenzin came in, robes billowing behind him.
“I saw her.”
“What?”
He had stopped dead in his tracks, looking to her in confusion. She got up from her desk and handed him the book opened to the passage she had just read. He scanned the page, slowly stepping back and sitting on the couch she kept in her office. Neither of them spoke as Tenzin sat quietly and Lin started pacing, lost again in thought and a renewed sense of guilt.
She could feel Tenzin looking at her, watching cautiously as she continued to pace back and forth. She always paced when she was upset. He used to joke that if she were a firebender there would scorch marks on all their floors from where she paced.
Lin stopped, leaning against the edge of her desk with her back to Tenzin. They were missing so much of the puzzle. Why had they wanted their daughter all those years ago and why did they decide to take her now?
“Lin… you need to read this one.”
She turned to him and saw that his face had paled. He got up and handed the book back to her.
“I’m so scared right now. It’s been all over that these powerful prisoners have escaped and are trying to hurt Avatar Korra. I didn’t get many details but one of them is called Zaheer. The man who hired me to kidnap Rei once talked about someone named Zaheer. They all still think Rei died the day she was born but I’m still worried. Rei is a teenager and just wants to hang out with friends but I’m so scared something is going to happen.”
Lin’s eyes snapped to Tenzin’s her mouth slightly open.
The Red Lotus.
Before either of them could speak there was a sharp knock on the door. Lin turned to see one of her rookie officers standing there, looking completely terrified as she held up a white envelope.
“S-sorry to interrupt, Chief. You just said to let you know if you got any mail.”
Lin beckoned the nervous officer in and took the letter from her. There were no markings on the envelope except for the words “Chief Lin Beifong” written in a swirling script. She didn’t even bother dismissing her officer before ripping it open.
She scanned over the words a few times before crumpling the paper in her hands, letting out a frustrated growl. She thrust the paper at Tenzin before he could open his mouth. He read the note, backing up slowly, rubbing a hand over his head.
“Bring us the Avatar if you ever want the chance to meet your daughter”
Lin was angry now as she resumed her pacing. Apparently there were still remnants of the Red Lotus that were still loyal to Zaheer and his ideologies. Somehow they now knew that she knew the truth about who Rei was. And they were going to use her daughter to try and get to Korra.
“Do you know where Korra is right now, Tenzin?”
“She went with Asami on a business trip to the Fire Nation.”
It took a few minutes for Lin and Tenzin to figure out where the couple were staying and Lin immediately picked up her phone as soon she tracked down the correct contact number.
“I’ve got food!”
Kya entered the office holding up a couple bags of food. She had been making it her personal mission to do whatever she could to take care of Lin and not add to the increasing amount of stress weighing down the woman she loved. Tenzin shushed her loudly, gesturing to Lin and the fact that she was using the phone.
Kya set the food down perched herself on the arm of the couch.
“I’m sorry to bother you, Korra, but I need you to come back to Republic City. I know… I know. I’m sorry. Korra just… please…”
Kya reached out for her brother’s hand and squeezed it tightly as her heart broke a little at the desperation in Lin’s voice. Korra must have heard it too.
“Thank you, Korra. Please be safe. Come right to the city. I promise I’ll explain everything.”
Lin hung up the phone and collapsed back into her chair again. She didn’t look to them, staring blankly as her thoughts raced.
“Korra and Asami are their way back. They’re going to meet us on Air Temple Island.”
Chapter 1: The Runaways Run Away
Tumblr media
Word Count: 1.7k
Originally Requested by: @amateurwriterbigdreamer
A/N: love that Onawa was requested to be in this! I’m not giving her a huge part until she turns into a villain so that it’s centered around Y/N for now! These are all gonna be short chapters since there’s not a whole ass movie to cover. Hope you like it!
“I said no!” You yelled at the STAR Labs scientist, who had been trying to hook up a machine to you, to observe your brain waves. The other kids you had escaped the Reach with were watching from across the room, waiting for instructions. They watched with their eyes wide in fear and concern as the scientist cornered you.
“Y/N, you have to calm down.” He told you calmly, despite the annoyed tone of his voice.
You crouched in a defensive stance, snarling at him to tell him to back off. Two security guards grabbed your arms, and you thrashed in their hold, warning them to let you go. Your heart rate began to pick up as they held you down, and the scientist picked up a needle. You knew the drug wouldn’t work on you, none of them did, but you had to act like it would.
Your plan was to be calm and act out of it once they “sedated” you, so that they wouldn’t see you as dangerous. Then, once their guard was down, you’d attack.
“No! Stop!” You yelled as the needle stuck into your arm, and you slowly pretended to get tired. You made your eyes droop and breathed very slowly, so that when he checked your pulse it would be at the rate it should be with sedation in your veins.
“Put her in a straight jacket.” The scientist ordered a guard.
“You can’t do that!” Virgil Hawkins stood up.
“That’s way out of line!” Tye Longshadow glared at the scientist.
“She’s far too dangerous.”
“She obviously doesn’t want your help. You can’t just force her to do stuff!” Eduardo Dorado Jr. snapped. The scientist ignored him as the guards put your arms in a straight jacket, then sat you down in the last chair. You pretended to be half asleep, but when no one was looking you winked at the other 6 kids before they were called over. You shut your eyes and your head fell back against the wall, you figured you’d might as well rest. Your thoughts wandered to your father, and the horror stories about Stryker and the Weapon X program.
Your father was James Howlett, AKA The Wolverine, and your mother was Jean Grey, another X-Man. She had died half a year ago, destroyed by the Phoenix Force. You had run away from the X-Mansion because of it. You were treated different by the other kids, and even your team, Excalibur. Nightcrawler, Gambit, Rogue, Colossus, Lockheed, even your best friend, Kitty Pryde, treated you differently than before the Phoenix killed your mother. They treated you as if you’d turn on them any second. As if you’d attack them. As if you were an animal. A monster.
Your father had become even more distant and angry than before, which was something you didn’t think was possible. You didn’t know how to comfort him, and he didn’t know how to comfort you. Nobody was there for you while you grieved for your mother, and you felt feared and unwanted. So, to make things easier for them, you left. You planned to just wander, maybe even steal a motorcycle and follow in your fathers footsteps. You had been waiting for a bus when the Reach kidnapped you. When you woke up, voices were talking in your head. You were terrified, but then you heard your mothers voice. Whether it was actually her or just your subconscious, you didn’t know, but she helped you control the other voices. You were extremely intelligent, so it didn’t take long for you to get the hang of telepathy. When you finally escaped, you were put back into more testing. It made you anxious and panicky, since you knew what happened to your father and many mutants when they were tested on. You remembered the mutants that died being experimented on by Trask, and the lifelong trauma it brought your father.
“If we let you out, do you think you can handle getting some food without throwing a fit?” A security guard asked you, mocking you as if you were a child.
You lifted your head and nodded slowly, manipulating his mind to think your pupils were dilated, a sign of sedation. Once he was satisfied he unbuckled the straight jacket and helped you up, but you convinced him you could walk on your own. You walked out to the hallway and stopped at a corner, watching the others who were listening to Eduardo Jr and Eduardo Sr arguing very loudly. They looked away when he storms out, slamming the door.
“Uh...we should get lunch while we have time.” Virgil suggested.
“This is so messed up.” Tye snapped. “STAR is as bad as the Reach and worse than home.”
“Wouldn’t go that far.” Onawa Longshadow, who you figured out was his sister, mumbled.
“But STAR wants to help us.” Neut, some other escapee said quietly.
“Whatever, Neut. I just know I can’t take much more of this.” Tye said through his teeth.
“You won’t have to. Cause we’re busting out. Tonight.” Virgil says with determination. This perks your attention, so you walks towards them.
“And how are we supposed to do that?” Eduardo asked. “This place is a fortress.”
“You’ll need me.”
They all spin around and see you, perfectly awake and not sedated at all.
“You faked it, didn’t you?” Tye asked you, grinning.
“That’s what he said.” Virgil whispered, Eduardo snickering while Tye rolled his eyes.
“Drugs and medicine don’t work on me.” You shook your head. “The doctors are idiots.”
“Is that your metahuman gene?” Eduardo asked.
“No. That’s my X-Gene.” You shake your head as you looked around to make sure there’s no guards spying on you guys.
“Wait...” Tye mumbled. “I thought you were a telepath?”
“Holy shit! You’re like Wolverine, right? With a healing factor!” Virgil exclaimed.
“What?” A guard overheard from the other hallway. You rolled your eyes and erased the last few seconds from his mind, then created a “mind link” with the others, translating for Asami at the same time. Not Neut though, you knew he wanted to stay and report you. So you erased his mind as well.
‘Don’t yell. Talk to me through this.’ You ordered as you all started walking towards the cafeteria. ‘Yes, Wolverine is my father. My X-Gene developed when I was little, but the Reach activated my meta gene as well.’
‘No fair, so you’ve got like, a hundred powers?’ Virgil asked.
‘Can you even count? She’s got two.’ Onawa rolled her eyes.
‘So you know how to get us out of here?’ Tye asked. He seemed to be the most restless and adamant about leaving, which you took note of.
‘We leave tonight. I’ll take care of everything.’
“Please, tell me you're not serious about running. Running, escaping, whatever you want to call it, we're gone. This is serious. I nearly blew up Central City. My powers may be gone now, but what if they come back, you know, escalate out of control all over again? What if your powers escalate? Dude, you can't control them now. Look, I know Wilcox is a pain. STAR is a pain, but they're trying to keep us safe. Or at least keep the world safe from us.” Neut tried to reason with you.
“I’m outta here..” Virgil scoffed as you led him towards the door.
“Oh yeah.” Tye nodded, his sister following behind.
“Adios.” Eduardo waved to Neut.
“Are you coming Sam?” You asked her.
“I think so?” She tilted her head.
“That might mean yes.” Tye and Eduardo both led her towards you.
You spun around when alarms suddenly blared, and you saw Neut at some control panel.
“Sorry. But I can’t let you do this.” Neut narrowed his eyes.
“Bold of you to assume you were letting us in the first place, punk!” Onawa glared at him, starting to charge at him before her brother tugged her back.
“Let’s go!” You shouted at them, rushing down the hallway. Virgil and Eduardo sprinted ahead of you, right at the door. Virgil tried to open the door, but it was locked.
“The alarms put the whole place on lockdown!” Virgil alerted you.
“Great! Now what?” Tye asked.
“No idea.” Virgil admitted.
“Well what was your escape plan?” Eduardo asked.
“Uh...I didn’t really come up with one.” Virgil rubbed the back of his neck. “Y/N, weren’t you supposed to be in charge here?”
“I am. Just wait for it.” You told them. You knew guards would be at every exit any minute, and you wanted to show them something.
“Ed? Can you teleport us out?” Virgil asked, trying to figure out why you were just standing there staring down the hall.
“Haven't you been paying attention? I can only teleport myself and only along sight lines. Which makes escaping from a windowless, locked hallway somewhat difficult!” Eduardo shouted, accent becoming thicker in his anger.
“No problem! Tye can do his thing, right?” Virgil turned to Tye.
“Wrong! I can’t control ‘my thing’! It just happens!” Tye shook his head.
“Onawa? Can you do some magic or something?”
“No way! If I try to tear apart the door I could tear you apart too! I don’t have control yet, you-“ Onawa opened her mouth to say some god awful curse.
“That’s enough.” Tye smacked her arm.
“Look out!” Asami pointed.
You grinned when some guards ran up, channeling your inner Wolverine.
“You kids need to come with us!” A guard warned.
“Don’t think so.” Eduardo said darkly.
You charged at the guards, finally sheathing your claws. You made sure to not cut any vital parts, only making flesh wounds to keep them down. You snarled at them, baring your sharp teeth. Once they were all down, you turned around and charged towards the others. They all jumped aside as you went for the door, easily tearing through the layers of metal. You retracted your claws, standing straight and feeling your shoulders and back crack loudly. You turned around, everyone staring at you in shock and fear.
“Let’s go.” You say calmly, before running off into the night.
Heaven Disclaimer: I do not own LOK
Summary: She has to be honest with herself, before Bolin’s question last night, she had never really thought about heaven much or what it would possibly look like after they had all passed on. Bolin even played the song for her so she could get a better understanding to what he meant when he said that Opal was his heaven.
Everybody's talkin' 'bout heaven like they just can't wait to go They're sayin' how it's gonna be so good, so beautiful Lyin' next to you, in this bed with you, I ain't convinced 'Cause, I don't know how, I don't know how heaven, heaven Could be better than this, mm Heaven Kane Brown
Korra would be the first one to wake up in the mornings. Her blue eyes opening slowly, her arm muscles popping as she stretched them out above her head, yawning as she rub the sleep from her eyes. She chuckled quietly so she wouldn’t wake up her beautiful raven haired girlfriend Asami who was sleeping next to her, her hair spread out across the pillow that she was sleeping on with her mouth slightly open. She chuckled again because she wanted so badly to take a picture of her sleeping but knew that there would be serious consequences if she did that to her.
She sighed happily in content, still couldn’t believe that her and Asami have been together for a full year!
The two of them had decided when they first started dating to keep it a secret from their friends and family after they discovered their bisexuality. However, one of their friends Bolin had noticed that the two were dating right away but promised them both that he wouldn’t say anything until they were ready to tell people first on their own. Which to them, was a surprise because usually he doesn’t know when to keep his mouth shut most times.
Korra turned over in the covers to look at her lovely girlfriend once more, admiring her beauty, the way that her mouth was still hanging open as she slept. She was surprised that she was not talking in her sleep like she would usually do whenever they had a sleepover after a night out with their friends.
Speaking of her friends, her mind wondered back to a conversation that she had with Bolin last night at their bonfire hangout. She sighed as she wrapped her arms around Asami and looked up at the ceiling above her. It was a strange conversation she has to admit to herself but the more she thought about it over and over, the more she somewhat understood it.
Korra stared at Bolin as he blew out the burning marshmallow at the end of a stick that he was holding, shoving down the whole thing in his mouth and swallowed it without even chewing it first. She chuckled at him. “ Dude! Slow down! There’s plenty more in the bag!” she told him, pointing at the bag that was sitting near the bonfire. “You are going to make yourself sick if you keep doing that!”
Bolin wiped his mouth using the back of his hand before reaching down to grab another marshmallow from the bag and putting it on the stick and placing it near the fire, “sorry! It’s just so damn good and chewy!”
Korra rolled her blue eyes and shook her head at him, knowing for a fact that he won’t listen to her reasoning and he would just have to learn the hard way. She raised an eyebrow as he took another bite, smiling as he swallowed it, “whatever dude, I’ve tried.”
Bolin waved her off as he sat his stick down next to him, glancing over across from them at his sweet, adorable girlfriend Opal, who was laughing and talking to Korra’s girlfriend Asami, their heads close together as Asami told Opal something in her ear which made Opal laughed again. He smiled when Opal looked at him briefly with a huge smile on her face before looking back at Asami.
“Hey Korra,” he muttered, as he turned away from his girlfriend, looking deeply into the orange flames of the bonfire in front of him, “do you think about what heaven would be like after we all had passed away?”
Korra stopped mid chew of her marshmallow at Bolin’s strange and weird question. “What do you mean?”
Bolin shook his head in embarrassment at how strange his question had sounded just now, laughing nervously at the strange look Korra was giving him. “It’s nothing weird I promise!” he told her hurriedly, putting up his hands in defense. “ I know that you don’t listen to country music and neither do I, but, there’s this song by this singer Kane Brown and it’s called ‘Heaven’ and it’s a beautiful song!”
Korra raised an eyebrow at him, still highly confused about his question, still have no idea where this conversation was going at this point, “what is the song about Bolin?”
Bolin sighed as he ran a hand through his hair, clearing his throat before he explained it to her, “basically he talks about heaven and how everyone is so excited about going there because it’s supposed to be really beautiful. However, if you listen closely to the song, it’s actually about his wife, about how beautiful she was even more beautiful than heaven,” he sighed as he glanced back at Opal, who was still laughing and talking to Asami. “I think I’ve found my heaven Korra, and she’s so beautiful and kind.”
He sighed dreamily when he looked back over to Korra with and raised eyebrow, “my question for you is, ummm, do you see Asami as your heaven too?”
Korra remembered not answering his question right away when he had asked her that, unsure at how to answer him when she was put on the spot like that.
She remembers looking at Asami after that question, watching her as she laughed, watched when she gave Mako a giant hug when he finally showed up to the hangout. She had always told Asami that she had a beautiful laugh, always telling her how beautiful her smile was and how it would be always cute watching her talking in her sleep. She would always tell her that she had a lovely demeanor, always telling her at how thankful she was when Asami had taken care of Korra when she was sick a few months ago.
Korra blinked out of her thoughts at the soft sighing of Asami next to her. She looked down to see if she had woken up and smiled when she saw rear her eyes were still closed.
She has to be honest with herself, before Bolin’s question last night, she had never really thought about heaven much or what it would possibly look like after they had all passed on. Bolin even played the song for her so she could get a better understanding to what he meant when he said that Opal was his heaven.
“Korra.”
Korra looked down to see Asami looking at her with loving and adoring eyes, smiling at her as she snuggling up closer to her.
“Yes Asami?”
“I love you,” Asami whispered before going back to sleep, “so damn much.”
Korra gasped when everything had dawned on her at that moment just now, everything to what Bolin had said was true, everything to what he talked about Opal and how he explained the song to her was also true! She finally understood what Bolin was trying to tell her this whole time!
Korra bit her lower lip as she kissed the top of Asami’s head, smiling down at her, “I love you too, my beautiful heaven.”
AN: sooo this is my first fic of korrasami!! I truly love this pairing and I absolutely love Kane Brown so I decided to do a fic about his song Heaven! Truly hope that you guys loved it!!
In These Arms | Chapter 14: Point of Action
Tumblr media
Summary:
You just got starling news that the Red Lotus got to Air Temple Island and now you and Team Avatar need to rush to save them.
“We need to leave now” you command as you join the rest of the group. “Where is Lord Zuko?” Tonraq questions and Korra explains “He left to go back to the Fire nation to protect his daughter”.
Once everyone is in you bend the cables off the ship and fly out of the city. The ship crew in the control room start heading in the direction of the temple. You put your arms behind your back as you tap your foot anxiously while your thumb tugs on your cuff. Su comes up beside you “You’re always checking on everyone. Has anyone checked on you?”
“I’m fine” you mutter as you tug on your cuff some more, looking ahead at the dashboard overlooking the pilot. “y/n, You’ve lived under my roof long enough for me to know your moods. Don’t think I didn’t catch you checking up on everyone. Opal told me you spoke to her about Lin and moving to the temple - and I have a feeling you might have talked to Lin about Opal.”
“Yeah, I did. I’m sorry...”
“Don’t be sorry. You helped reconnect my family.”
“It was the least I could do. I will always protect your family as my own” you offer a smile and Su side hugs you causing you to stiffen up a bit. Your guilt about Opal and your worries for the airbending family and the air nation is eating you up inside. You clear your throat “Let’s head to the war room. We need a plan of action,” you head into the room as Su calls for Lin and Tonraq.
*
The adults huddle around the map as Team Avatar paces in another room of the ship. After many failed suggestions of how to attack the Red Lotus you sigh,
“We’ve gone through every angle of this map. Nothing seems to work….” you mutter as you fold your arms resting your hand on your chin.
“I’m not going to give up my daughter!” Tonraq raises his voice at you and your lips twitch, getting irritated just as much.
“I don’t like the idea of having to watch Korra offer herself any more than you guys. But look at it from Korra’s perspective! What choice does she have?!” you walk towards the window and look out watching the clouds darken as night approaches the sun lowering behind the mountains of the valley.
“Plenty which is why we’re trying to think of one right now.” Lin comments as she leans against the table looking at the map,
“It would help if you’d think of one” Tonraq sneers and you look at him from the corner of your eye, and sigh deeply. “I’m not giving up on Korra” you’re deeply saddened by the realization of what is going to happen even if the rest of the adults don’t want to come to terms with the situation. “But It’s one life versus the lives of many, Tonraq” you look down, your voice grave. “It’s easy for us to toss around solutions, but think of the amount of pressure Korra is feeling right now.” you turn around and look at the room which has gotten quiet - the others looking at one another before looking back at you.
“She’s probably feeling the weight of needing to save Opal, Tenzin, Bumi, Kya, Pema and the kids as well as the rest of the airbenders. As much as we try to understand, Korra is the one Zaheer is after and the brunt of this situation has fallen on her shoulders.” you look at each of them as they hang their heads.
“I’m pretty sure if we all put ourselves in Korra’s place we would sacrifice ourselves to save them….Tonraq if the tribe was in trouble, you would do it with no hesitation. The tribe is our family and we look after our tribe.” you look at him and he groans understanding.
“Su, if anyone came between you and your family…”
“I would save them by any means necessary” Su finished your sentence, you turn to Lin “And Lin… with your sacrifice--”
“--I would do it again.” Lin interrupted as she looked up meeting your eyes as Su looked at you and Lin, her brows furrowed in confusion.
“We would sacrifice ourselves if it meant saving someone else, because that’s what we do. Without a second thought.”
“I’m not going to persuade my daughter to that decision”, Tonraq looks up and meets your gaze as you lean onto the table
“You shouldn’t. None of us should. Only Korra can. We just have to do our job to protect her as best we can when and if she does decide.”
“So we agree. None of us will persuade Korra to make that decision” Lin looks at everyone and each one of you nod.
“Until then we keep looking for a way to save Opal and the airbenders” Su joins in looking at Lin
“And save my daughter in the process” Tonraq comments.
“Whatever means possible so that we ALL come out of this alive.” you finish and everyone nods in agreement.
*
As the ship races to the Northern Air Temple the adults continue going over the map and Team Avatar joins in.
“So any ideas?” Lin looks around the room as the crew walks into the room,
“I say we make our approach from the West, drop down from the airship on cables. Ambush these Red Lotus lowlifes before they know what hit them.” Tonraq and Lin turn to Su and you peer over at Korra and notice her gravely staring out of the window.
“It will never work. That Combustion Lady will pick us off one by one.” Lin rolls her eyes thinking back to the attempted kidnapping in Zaofu,
“You have a better idea how to save the airbenders?” Su retorts.
“Yeah. We come up from the valley, scale the side of the mountain, and take them off guard.” she points to the map,
“That could work.” Tonraq agrees with Lin’s plan.
“ And give them the high ground? No! If their lavabender spots us, he'll melt the mountainside and us with it.”
“Wait!” the adults turn to Bolin “I got it. I'll disguise myself as a lost hiker. And once I'm in the temple, I'll distract the Red Lotus with my bird calls. Caw! Caw! Caw! Caw! That's when you all strike!”
“Bird calls? Really?” Mako raises an eyebrow along with Asami,
“Well, I haven't noticed you offering any suggestions.”
Korra starts to speak and everyone turns towards her “It doesn't matter. None of these ideas will work. The second Zaheer realizes we're up to something, he'll wipe out the airbenders.”
“And Opal is one of them. Believe me, I understand what's at stake.” Su rests a hand on her chest and you shake your head.
“That’s not what she’s saying, Su…” Su looks up at you furrowing her eyebrows “...if I’m understanding what you’re thinking, Korra….”
“y/n…” Tonraq’s voice calls you out as he grips the edge of the table,
“I didn’t say anything Tonraq, but…” you click your tongue as you look down covering your face with the palm of your hand. Now Lin has caught up with what you’re picking up from Korra.
“Then I think you'll agree. The only plan that will work is for me to give myself up.” Korra looks at you and you slowly nod as much as you hated to agree.
“What?” Mako eyes widen.
“Korra, no.” Lin shakes her head.
“We'll figure out another way.” Tonraq quickly speaks and looks at his daughter. You look up, removing your hand from your face to look at him, “Tonraq, we’ve gone through every way-”
“-No, y/n. There has to be another way!” Tonraq raises his voice a bit and Korra butts in -
“I talked it over with Lord Zuko, and I've given it a lot of thought. I have to do this.”
Asami looks worriedly at Korra “You can't expect us to sit by and just let Zaheer take you.”
 Korra pleads with everyone as she speaks “The World has been out of balance for far too long. It needs the Air Nation back again. I can't let Zaheer destroy it and everyone we love. Help me save the airbenders. Then you can worry about saving me.” She closes her eyes and opens them with fierce determination. Tonraq and Su share a look as you and Lin look at one another for a moment before returning your attention to Korra.
“We're with you, Korra.” Tonraq answers his daughter as Su nods “Yes, whatever you need. We're here.” Asami nods in the background as Mako and Bolin look down. “All of us” you look at Korra with determination. “I'll go radio Zaheer.” Korra walks off sadly, opening the door and walks into the room, leaving the group behind her. You look at Korra until the door slams shut soon after.  “Excuse me for a second” you slowly pull away from the group and walk out the room.
*
Looking out the window in another room gripping the railing, you take time for yourself when Lin steps inside setting something down as she approaches you.
“y/n”
You stay quiet as you try to focus on the horizon
“You look like your head’s about to explode” Lin says dryly,
“You could say that” you let out a laugh.
“What’s on your mind?”
“A lot of things, but I’m fine. Just processing and mentally preparing,” You shake your head as you close your eyes, putting your fingers in the corner of your eyes.
“You’re not.” Lin sensing you’re tense, she reaches for you but stops herself not wanting someone to walk in.
“No, I’m not” you finally reveal it outloud, Lin looks over at you as you turn around folding your arms leaning against the dashboard. You look like you’re about to talk but then take a moment to gather your thoughts before doing so,
“Am I a horrible person for being okay to agree on letting Korra go?” you look up at Lin before looking away feeling conflicted. Even though Korra is the Avatar she is still a teen, she shouldn’t be thinking about sacrificing herself for a group of people let alone at 18. At her age, your only worry was just making sure you were clothed and fed.
Lin looked at you and noticed the conflict on your face but was unsure on how to console you when she tried to say anything you started to speak again. “The attack on the airbenders is solely to get Korra and nothing seems to work to save her - or Opal, I encouraged her to leave Zaofu if anything happens to her or the kids...” you look down in distress
“Opal leaving isn’t your fault. Su and I also let her go. We can still come up with a plan” Lin looks up at you and puts her hand on your arm causing you to look over at her “We’ve looked from the air, ground, and we have no sea, Lin. There aren't any large bodies of water in the area.” you turn back around and look out at the area, nothing but mountain peaks.
“There’s still time.”
“Lin…”
“No”
You sigh looking down “I know you care about Korra. I do too.” Lin looks up at you, her eyes softening at the possible outcome, “There has to be another way”.
“Like Korra said, save the Air Nation then we can focus on saving her”. You step forward as Lin looks down, “Korra is probably back…we should go” you walk out of the room and head back to the war room waiting on Korra as Lin follows.
Korra walks back into the room with determination as Tonraq turns towards his daughter “Did you speak to Zaheer?”
Korra looks in dismal “Yes. He told me to come to the top of Laghima’s Peak at noon. Alone. Once he has me, he’ll release the airbenders over to you at the temple.”
You look over at Asami who looks worried for Korra then look out the window trying to find some sort of answer through the scenery. Su’s voice breaks your thoughts as she, Lin, Asami, and Mako are by the map. “I think I figured out a way to play this…” Korra and Tonraq walk up to Su “…so the airbenders and Korra all come out in one piece.”
Your ears perk up and turn around to face the group as Lin turns to her sister “How?”
Zaheer doesn't know how many of us there are. So we have the numbers advantage.” She picks up two figures in each hand “I say we split into two teams.” Mako, Bolin, and Asami will take...” places the airship figure on the Northern Air Temple on the map “...the airship up to the temple.” she then places a figure of the Zaofu guards helmet on a plateau a distance away from the temple “Meanwhile, my metalbenders, Tonraq, y/n, Lin and I will get into position below Laghima's Peak. Su turns to Korra who nods at the plan.
“Sounds like we have a p.o.a. Let’s get ready” you look at everyone determined and head out to the bunks.
*
As you finish putting your medium length hair in a messy high ponytail someone walks up behind you as you roll up a sleeve to bend on your forearm guards ”Wear this” you look over to see Lin handing you a chest plate.
“Did you pry that off Su?”You smile, a chuckle escaping your lips as you proceed to roll your left sleeve up,
“y/n. Wear it” she presses the chest plate onto you and you hold it. “Please”
You stop and look at her, even though she isn’t showing it there was a hint of worry in her words. You nod and bend your back piece off so you can bend the metal chest plate on before adding it back on over the plate. “Thanks”
Lin gives you a curt nod as she looks you over she starts to head out the door, “If we make it out. I want to see you back at the station, Chief”
Lin stops and turns to look at you, “We will, Captain”.
You look down for a second biting on your lip, “Lin...”Lifting your head to look over and look into her light jade eyes “...I…”
“No” Lin said sternly at you, shaking her head to stop you from completing what she felt what you were going to say
“...love you” you continued on giving her a light smile before looking down to fix your belt and tucking your shirt in.
*
Lin felt her heart stop when she heard you say those three words, “...I love you”. Why the hell did you have to tell her this when the both of you are about to fight four crazy criminals. “Do you mean it?” she stepped towards you as you finished and turned your body to face her, “yes, I know the timing is shit, but I wanted you to know, just in case….we get blasted”.
She wasn’t about to say the same words back like some dramatic romance novel. Lin knew better than that, but she’s come to learn that you would jump in the line of fire to save anyone. Lin didn’t want to think about how far you were willing to go, it seemed to be a sick joke from the universe. Have her falling for someone with the same sense of duty as her. Though the words scared her, she knew that her actions would speak louder so she approached you while you were fumbling with your belt. She leaned in and kissed your cheek, you looked at her then leaned in and gave her a full kiss causing her to return the gesture. You rested your forehead against hers holding her hands as she pulled back.
*
“You don’t have to say it back. I know….” you whispered softly as you slowly let go of her hands but stayed close looking at her eyes. Trying to remember those eyes and engrave them in the back of your mind.
“Uh…” You and Lin drop hands “...sorry to interrupt.. but uh..we’re about to reach Laghima’s Peak...” Mako calls out and both of you nod. Lin walks out and you eye him before following but stop and turn to face Mako debating whether or not to say something.
“I didn’t see anything” Mako states looking at you and you purse your lips then nod “Right” before heading towards the hangar bay.
*
The ship arrives on the ground below Laghima's Peak. You strap a radio on your shoulder and give Tonraq a nod as he walks down the ramp with a Zaofu guard. Lin hands Korra a radio, Radio the second you see those airbenders.” Korra and Mako strap their radio across their shoulders,
“I will, Chief. Good luck”.
Lin gives a silent nod to Mako and walks down the ramp as the teens watch her go. Asami gives Korra a hug, “Be careful, Korra.”
“You too.”
Korra turns to Mako and throws her arms around him. He is surprised for a split second and then returns the hug. Bolin catches Korra by surprise by hugging her from the side with tears in his eyes. Korra rests her head on top of Bolin's. Once she pulls back from Bolin you step up and give her a hug, “We will get you back, Korra” whisper softly and she nods hugging you back, you both part and you give her shoulder a slight squeeze with a gentle smile before walking down the ramp.
Korra walks down the ramp. Once she touches the ground, the airship's ramp rises up and closes, taking off from the ground. Korra looks up at the airship then looks over to father who is gazing at the airship. He closes his eyes before turning his attention to his daughter.
“Korra.”
Korra speaks gently, giving him a smile “Don't worry, Dad. I'll be alright.”
Tonraq places a hand on her shoulder “I just want you to know how proud...” he pulls Korra into an embrace as the hand on her shoulder moves up to the back of her head and his other hand rests across her shoulders. “...I am of you. The risk you're taking to save the Air Nation will be remembered for generations.”
Korra closes her eyes and rests her head on Tonraq's shoulder, “I love you, Dad.”
“I love you too, sweetheart.”
You didn’t flinch. No reaction. You heard that word and thought you were going to react negatively, but nothing happened. I guess that word doesn’t have power over me anymore. Your lips curl up glad for that to be over glancing at Lin then look back at the duo.
Tonraq takes a step back with both hands on Korra's shoulders. He looks at her for a second and then walks away towards the group
“And, Dad. Watch out for Zaheer. He's not very fond of World leaders.” Tonraq turns to Korra
Tonraq gives a smug smile “I can handle him. Just stay focused on your mission.” He turns back to the mountain and runs towards it. Everyone follows his cue. Your metal cables shoot up to it and leap up the mountain into the fog. Tonraq jumps into view with both of his hands covered in ice as he uses them to scale up the surface. He swings from one side to another and propels himself into the fog. You catch up to Tonraq and grab his attention “Let’s scale to the other side of the mountain. They won’t expect it.”
Tonraq looks at the other guards then back at you and nods “Let’s go”
You and him end up separating from the rest of the guards and scale over to the other side.
Lin radios “Everyone at position?”
You grab the receiver “Tonraq and I changed routes. Headed to the opposite side, over and out”,
Putting the receiver back to the radio, you grit your teeth as you keep moving up and spot another airship. You stop as you’re hanging off the side of the mountain, listening to the radio for the command.
“It’s a trick! Go! Go!” you put down the radio looking at Tonraq as he listened in to the command. You start metalbending upwards on the cables and propel yourself along with a determined face. You reach the top with Tonraq nearby underneath “Grab my cable” you command him “What?”
“I’ll propel you up!”
Tonraq grabs hold with his water arm and you look over at the airship’s ramp and grunt as you launch him towards the ramp. You watch him fly up as you cable up to the edge of the mountain and propel yourself up to the peak. you hit the edge of the mountain breaking a piece of earth with your foot and kick the slab to Zaheer “Surprise” you grunt as you land on the ground in an attack stance while Tonraq saves Korra. You immediately propel yourself off the ground with your cables to avoid the air blast from Zaheer. Zaheer air kicks at you and you slide under bending a slab up to block the attack. He kicks a rush of air to come around the slab hitting you in the side causing you to slide against the ground. The contact from the chest plate sparks against the ground. You grab onto the ground, skidding to a halt as Zaheer runs forward to the airship. Korra pops up in front of him, kicking her legs at him with firebending. You kick up while Zaheer extends an arm out to airbend the flames away but is too late as he gets knocked back by one of your earth kicks. Korra lands on her back and quickly pushes herself upright. Tonraq water cuts the ropes and causes the airship to float away. You earth launch yourself over to Tonraq and stand beside him as you get into a fighting stance as Tonraq stands protectively in front of his daughter.
“Nowhere to go, Zaheer!” He shouts then swings his water arms around and aims at the criminal.
You and Korra each kick a slab of earth at Zaheer and he does a tuck and roll as Tonraq jumps above the both of you and lands, sending his water arm to punch at him. Zaheer uses his airbending to guide the chunks of rock off course before extending his palm to break the water arm with air. Tonraq side steps and the blast of air sails harmlessly above his shoulders and hits you causing you to slide across the ground. You quickly get up and watch as another air attack is sent at Tonraq and he swipes it with his water arm.
 Zaheer air punches and quickly moves to the side to avoid your metal cables shooting out at him. A rock flies at him and he kicks it to the side. He sends a series of airbending attacks of which Tonraq manages to swipe away the first four blasts but is hit by the fifth.
Korra comes rushing to protect her Dad and she jumps up to avoid an offensive jab by Zaheer. As she lands on the ground, she punches it and sends a trail of earth at him, to which he just leaps up to avoid being hit. You launch yourself toward him and as he is in the air, he avoids your cables but you manage to grab his wrist. Zaheer grits his teeth as he manages to grab hold of the cable and bends an air vortex to get you up in the air as he lands on the ground. “You’re of no importance to me” you hear him tell you as you try to hold onto Zaheer’s wrist by your cable but you lose control and your grip loosens and he thrusts his palm out and the vortex is moved over the edge of the cliff. You fall down over the edge toward the other side of the fight, “Korra!” you scream as you watch him kick a blast at Korra. She pushes herself off the ground to avoid it. You hear Korra’s voice as you fall down “y/n!”.
You hurry and bend your cables to grab onto the side of the mountain and slam into it on your left side. You groan out at the pain as the rock slams into your once dislocated shoulder. Your hand gives out, and you almost lose your grip but you grab hold with your right cable. You manage to stay suspended and catch your breath from that near fall, looking down at the ground then around at your surroundings. Shit, I almost lost it there . Despite the fog you notice he threw you toward the other side of the Peak so you scramble to scale back up to the edge.
You watch as some of the security force get blasted off the Peak but manage to grab hold on the side of the mountain. “Where are Lin and Su?” you bark out, one of the men tilts their head up “They’re still up there - but when we got blasted they were getting pinned down!”. Your eyes widen and you look up, grit your teeth and keep climbing. If Lin gets hurt you will never be able to live with yourself. You have to get there before that combustion bender gets to either one of them. They just reconciled you’re not going to allow either one of them lose each other again. “There's no way around her! She’ll just blast you away!” you hear the men yell out but you keep climbing. You see someone sliding near the edge of the cliff as you approach you notice the gray hair. You can’t wait anymore so you propel yourself up and see the combustion bender, “P’Li!” you shout in the air as you front flip, landing on the Peak with a fist to the ground. Landing in front of Lin, “Fight someone closer to your own age” you sneer at her as you bend daggers from your forearms. P'li smirks at you, glad to take you on - “You’re nothing against me”. You smirk back and start to charge at her then notice her start to combustion bend, “No!” Lin yells out as she struggles after you.
You put your arm up getting ready to attack when your eyes widen when you notice a metal object flying toward P’li from the corner of your eye. You skid to a stop as you watch it encase around P’Li’s head. “y/n!” you hear Lin yelling your name as you cover your face. You feel the combust hit your arms as you avert your eyes from the flash of light coming through the seams of the armor.
After a couple of seconds you peer your eyes out and see P’li’s body slowly falling down to her knees before falling down. Blinking your eyes, you attempt to clear your mind of the horror you’ve witnessed in front and notice the blood splatter hitting your clothes. Forcing yourself back into action, you get up and turn around to Lin. She has scorch marks on her face and armor as Su runs to her older sister hugging her while helping her to her feet. Lin and Su walk over to you, Su checks on you since you’re still in a state of shock “You good?” and you slowly nod “Yeah”. Lin shoves your chest “What the fuck was that!” she yells as you stumble back, catching yourself as you focus back and look at Lin “I wasn’t going to let her get to you!” you explain desperately, you arm burning in pain.
“No time….Korra!” Su yells, interrupting the both of you as she starts running toward the airship and you and Lin follow suit. The three of you climb to the upper peak on cables landing behind him. With Korra slung over one of his shoulders he turns around to face the three of you standing on the edge of the cliff.
Su gets in an attacking stance “It’s over, Zaheer.” Su calls him out and he starts closing his eyes “Let go of your earthly tether.”
Lin raises her fists “Release the Avatar!”
“Enter the void”
You analyze him seeing if he’ll attack as you get into your stance “Nowhere to run, Zaheer!”
“This is your last warning!” Lin chimes in,
“Empty and become wind” Zaheer opens his eyes and he takes a step back and slips off the edge with Korra.
You look on with shock “Korra!” you yell,
“No! Stop!” Lin yells as the three of you run toward the edge, you slide and peer over just to see Zaheer casually floating above the fog without anything holding him. You three metalbend your cables at him, but Zaheer flies upwards. He gives you three his regards before flying off with Korra.
You rub your eyes as you look on in disbelief  - your mouth hanging open,
“Did he just….fly?”
“That can’t be....That’s impossible” you stand up as you answer incredulously.
“Well he’s doing it” Su looks on, flabbergasted at the scene.
“How do we stop a flying Red Lotus leader?” you answer neither Lin nor Su know the answer as you look on and see Zaheer and the airship looking smaller as they fly away. Shit now what do we do, both Korra and the airbenders are gone.
Note
hi!! congrats on 2.5k!! i was wondering if i could get a ship for atla, lok and into the spider verse (if that’s okay ofc!!) ?
i’m a 5”3 bisexual girl. i’m pretty sure i’m an enfj and i’m a leo (with an aqua moon and leo rising if that helps in any way!)
i tend to love/crave attention but i tend to be very insecure once in it (and just in general). i love meeting new people, i have a slight tendency of selfishness but i will do absolutely anything for my friends. i’m not a fan of taking a backseat in many things, including life. i like to poke fun at people but am always terrified of hurting their feelings. i also value peoples perception of me a lot.
i like to read, write, hang out with friends, learn new things, sleep, spend time with friends, photography, and going to concerts. i play basketball and work out on my own time.
hopefully that’s not too much/too little. thank you in advance and i hope you have a wonderful day/night!!
ATLA:
I ship you with Katara!
alright, so i think that katara would be a great match for you because you are both fiercely loyal and independent in life, but you also carry a softness with you that makes you feel vulnerable and insecure.
there is a bit of turbulence in both of you that would be disastrous when paired with someone incredibly turbulent (like zuko) or someone incredibly steadfast (like toph), so you both need someone who recognizes the struggles you face and gives them merit, but is also actively working for stability and peace.
you and katara would be good together because you will both do what it takes to save each other, no matter the cost. it’s good that you both have this attitude because when the other does something terrible in the name of saving everyone, you understand and don’t judge them for it.
you’re both natural leaders with a fair amount of altruism, so you both strive to do what is best for everyone, taking charge in many situations. you are the parents of the group - making sure everyone is alright and doing what needs to be done.
if you have trouble making decisions, katara is wonderful to lean on because she always has an idea, and she’s acted like a mother for so long she has what it takes to make the decision. oftentimes you can be caught between two decisions, but by taking to katara, you can figure out what path would be best.
both of you are extroverted and love to be in the thick of things, so i imagine the two of you are a bit of thrill seekers - i have no doubt that katara would go to concerts with you and would play basketball with you (although she’s not very good and would much rather cheer you on from the stands).
i have this idea that in a modern! au the two of you met at a party or something similar - maybe you’re a friend of zuko’s and you force him to go to a party he was invited to, and you meet katara and the two of you immediately hit it off and hang out for the rest of the night.
or, both of you are photographers and in a high school! au you’re in a photography club together, and the two of you are tasked with getting pictures of some school event or another, and she drives you there, and afterwards you stop to get fast food and end up talking late into the night.
either way, the two of you are a force to be reckoned with, when you team up. you’re both supportive of each other and determined and reliable.
you are a little more tolerant than katara, so you are definitely one to talk her down, esp. when she’s holding a grudge against someone, and she trusts your judgement. you may not always get her to back down completely, but you do get her to back down just a little.
LOK:
I ship you with Asami Sato!
alright, so here is a power couple if i have ever seen one
you and asami are wicked smart with the outward confidence to change the world (while still being vulnerable to your own insecurities) and hearts big enough to want to save everyone.
both of you love learning and coming up with new ideas, so when you are together, your creativity just flows and you come up with cool, new ideas together.
you guys also have a tough side to you - neither of you will turn down a challenge, and your dedication to your friends is unparalleled.
i see you guys as being the cool aunts - you are the voice of reason in your friend group, sure, but you also let them run wild with weird plans and interfere after the worst of the damage has been done. and it’s always like,,, you just go along with this ridiculous plan? “yep. because if we don’t, they’ll do it without us and that would be disastrous.”
okay, but i also just love the quiet moments between you two. you play pai sho together, and even though asami wins every time, you insist that at some point, you are going to win and continue to play anyway.
i also think that asami gets pretty competitive? she loves winning, and even though she always asks you if you’re sure, she’s secretly very glad when you insist on playing (and losing).
and she’s also so supportive? she would love to read your writing or hang up your photography. she’s a proud girlfriend™ and will not hesitate to tell you how great you are.
you, in turn, are constantly talking about how cool your girlfriend is - because have you met asami? she’s talented. she’s kind. she’s tough. she will kick you in the face, and then you’ll thank her for it.
oh, and 100%, asami will make sure that both of you find the time to sleep. both of you love having lazy weekend mornings where you stay in bed until noon, waking up when the sun filters through the windows but staying in bed, talking tiredly and laughing at each others jokes, intertwining your hands and playing footsie under the covers. you drift back off to sleep in asami’s arms, and when you finally wake up and decide to start the day, the two of you go to get brunch and then go for a drive.
and going for a  d r i v e  with asami is peak sweetness. you drive slowly through the city, hand in hand, and when you make it to the more deserted roads, asami goes fast. and spirits, you swear that she is the most beautiful thing you’ve ever seen when her hair is blowing in the wind and she has that determined but thrilled smile on her face.
Into The Spider-Verse:
I ship you with Miles Morales!
first of all, both of you have big hearts and believe that you can make a difference. you also carry that same bit of doubt and insecurity, so whenever you hype the other you’re not out of touch - you just truly believe the world of each other, so you are sincere in your belief that the other is capable of anything
you guys are also artistic, and that’s a source of bonding for sure. you both find things visually beautiful and you both have a way with words, so you two often hang out and just create together. you write while he draws, and then, on the weekends, you take photos while he puts sticker around town, or when he’s doing graffiti.
you’re also wicked smart - both of you. i imagine that the two of you love to team up on projects together because you work really well together, while still having fun. miles plays music for you while you’re working on the project, and the two of you debate over what artists are better.
miles probably introduces you to a lot of music, and the two of you plan to go to concerts together, if you ever save up enough money.
but if you are a superhero too, you definitely just put on your masks and sneak into venues and listen from the shadows. 100%, someone has caught the two of you, and so now concerts will save a spot for their friendly neighborhood heroes - they mark it off with tape and everything.
i feel like you and miles will spend a lot of time just.... chilling. hanging out, talking about whatever comes to mind. you’re lives are often going so fast - with him being spider-man and everything, so it’s good when the two of you can just hang out, sprawled out on the floor while playing video games. you bring the snacks and miles provides the entertainment, and the two of you can just be kids.
you can both be idealistic and selfless when it comes to the people you love, and while that can sometimes be a dangerous combo to have, you are both constantly saving the other after they do something recklessly noble, so you keep each other in check.
you also lean on each other a great deal. you both trust each other’s judgement more than anything, and so you often have open dialogue about the choices you have to make, and what the best course of action would be.
also, something i think is cute is that both of you like to tease, but you worry about taking it too far. so both of you will say something and be like, “but i didn’t mean it— are you alright? because it was just a joke— a pretty stupid joke, actually, i don’t know why i thought it would be funny—” and the other is like. “i promise it’s alright. yes, you’re fine i swear. i’m all good, i guarantee.”
The One with their Baby Ducklings
Tumblr media Tumblr media
pairing: namjin x maknae line (ft. uncles sope)
summary: after the disaster, nobi realizes that they are all namjin’s baby ducklings that have been following them since the very beginning
Yelling.
That was the first thing jungkook heard when he woke up. judging by the sound of the voice, it must’ve been jin and he was angry. this time, he was very pissed off and jungkook wanted to stay inside his room to avoid the wrath of jin, even though he doesn’t even know what caused it. the words sounded muffled and he was confused with what happened but something inside told him it was something he wouldn’t want to hear.
“SERIOUSLY! YOU SHOULDN’T DO SOMETHING YOU DON’T KNOW WITHOUT SOMEONE WHO KNOWS HOW TO HANDLE THE SITUATION IF TURNED FOR THE WORST!”
“YOU COULD’VE GOTTEN HURT! THANK GOD THE CABINETS ARE NOT WOODEN OR OUR HOUSE WOULD’VE BURNED DOWN!”
“YOU SHOULD’VE CALLED ME TO TELL ME WHAT YOU WERE WANTING TO DO SO I COULD TELL YOU HOW TO DO IT PROPERLY AND SAFELY!”
“DO YOU KNOW HOW MY HEART STOPPED WHEN JIMIN CALLED ME ALL FRANTIC AND SCARED?!”
“I CANNOT BELIEVE YOU!”
a knock from his door made him jump and he burrowed under the covers to hide from his oldest hyung but peeked his head out when he heard the second oldest’s voice.
“Kook?” Yoongi’s voice came through from the other side of the door. “you awake?”
“ah hyung, i think he’s still sleeping.” That was the voice he recognized to be hobi’s.
“are you serious? after all that, he’s still sleeping.”
jungkook stood up to go to the door and he slowly opened it to peek out and see the faces of yoongi and hoseok.
“oh, jungkook!” hobi whisper-yelled and jungkook smiled. “can we come in? we’re not exactly comfortable being out there right now.”
the youngest made way for the older two to enter and they sat on nobi’s bed while jungkook laid on his.
“what happened?” jungkook asked.
hobi laughed while yoongi let out a small chuckle. “it appears while hyung and i were out, the other 3 caught the kitchen on fire.”
with the mention of ‘fire’, jungkook turned around and wildly looked at them. “fire? is nobi okay?”
“seriously, we tell him the kitchen bursted into flames and the first thing he cares about is nobi.”  yoongi’s quiet complains made jungkook quietly growl causing yoongi to wave him off quietly. “yes, she’s okay. but right now, i think she most prefers the flames over her yelling mother out there.”
“apparently, to what we heard jimin say, they wanted to make chicken but they left the oil for too long and caused a grease fire,” hoseok explained.
“ah, seriously. asami sakura,” jungkook groaned and slapped his hand against his forehead.
“you know, when we passed by, nobi was close to crying.” yoongi hit the back of hoseok’s head for the careless confession.
“yah, don’t say that to him,” he quietly scolded causing the younger to mumble an apology. they nervously looked at jungkook, expecting a glare due to how territorial he was to the girl.
“what he meant to say was that nobi’s feeling sorry and i think she was just shaken up.”
“i’m going out there,” jungkook stood up but the other two held him down.
“no. you’ll be roped into a situation you have no business in being in so just stay in here until everything is re-solved,” hoseok reasoned. it didn’t go well with the youngest.
“if the 3 of them almost burned the dorm to the ground, don’t you think it’s an issue we should re-solve by talking it out as a group?”
yoongi and hoseok looked at each other in defeat, knowing that there was nothing else they could say without jungkook arguing with them.
...
nobi sat on the beige couch, fingers fidgeting slightly and hair fanning the sides of her face as if it was an attempt to hide in shame. taehyung and jimin were both looking at the floor, head hanging in shame.
“what were you all thinking just cooking something like that out of the blue?” jin asked angrily, draped over the loveseat with his leg on top of his knee. his voice was hoarse from all the yelling and scolding. “you could’ve gotten badly hurt! burned!”
“it wasn’t their fault, hyung.” nobi looked up to meet his eyes. “i asked them and it’s all my fault. i couldn’t wait for you to come home and i really wanted to try something new.”
“what do you mean ‘something new’? you help me cook all the time!” jin said.
“i wanted to cook something for you and showcase what i’ve learned from you,” nobi mumbled. “i’m sorry, hyung.”
namjoon looked at jin and he nodded. “listen, you three. sure, we’re angry and we’re mad. but we were just worried because you didn’t know how to put it out and we don’t know what we would do if you got hurt. you’re more than our members and co-workers. you’re our family, you guys. do you understand?”
tears gathered in her eyes at her leader’s words as there was no one else she wanted to impress. he’s her idol and him telling her that was enough to get the waterfall to spill down her face.
“i understand that it was an accident and you were just trying to eat something. but, dear god, i will never forgive myself for leaving you here and being hurt because i wasn’t here,” jin sighed.
“your lives are our top priority and we will do anything to keep you from hurting yourselves anymore than you have.”
the appearance of the last 3 members from the hallway made everyone look at them and jungkook immediately stuck himself beside nobi on the space that taehyung made by scooting to the edge of the couch and wrapped an arm around her shoulders.
“sorry i wasn’t awake to help,” he mumbled to which she just smiled softly.
“you would’ve probably made it worse.”
“i’ll just ask this: are you guys okay?” yoongi asked, the slightest tone of worry in his voice.
“yea,” the maknae line, minus jungkook, replied quietly.
“a fire. thank god for the fire extinguisher,” jin kept muttering.
“that must’ve been the feeling that we felt!” hoseok giggled at the unfamiliar dread in the pit of his stomach earlier. “yoongi-hyung and i had this weird sense of dread and we thought we were going crazy!”
“i think something was trying to tell us it was a fire since the song played in my speakers,” yoongi added.
“maybe fate was trying to tell us you were in trouble?” hoseok wondered. “sorry your uncles weren’t there to help, kids.”
“you’re not our uncles, hyung.” jimin’s comment made the self-proclaimed uncles look at him wildly causing him to stutter out, “more like,,, cousins?”
“either way, we apologize for not being there to help you.”
“shouldn’t you have called me first though, asami sakura?” yoongi pointed, fake hurt plastered on his face.
namjoon and jin shared a look that meant they were done with this whole thing. but they appreciated the others’ attempt of lightening up the mood.
“you should be punished for this whole thing,” jin said causing the three to deflate. “but since it was an accident and you didn’t meant to, i won’t make it very harsh. just cleaning up this mess and dish duty for 3 months, one for each of you. and you 3 aren’t allowed to be at home without one of us to stay behind.”
surprise was evident on their faces as they were expecting something harsh like cleaning the whole dorm but hey, they’ll take just dish duty. they were grateful for jin’s understanding as the situation wasn’t in their control and they couldn’t help the fire from happening.
“namjoon, you stay here while i go take a bath. good lord, i need a nice bath to calm myself,” jin stood up and walked to the hallway. “my heart is still beating.”
“i woke up to him. but at least he got it out of his system by screaming and yelling,” jungkook explained.
nobi was still quiet but she moved closer to his side and he tightened his hold around her.
“i think i’m spiderman,” hoseok massaged his chest, on top of where his heart was supposed to be. “like i got his instictual feeling!”
“no, you are anpanman.”
jimin’s quiet retort made the others chuckle and namjoon observed his little family.
the mood has turned from dark to light in a matter of minutes and jin returned with his signature pink hoodie and grey sweats while running his hands through his hair.
“since you’re hungry and you weren’t able to eat, we’ll just order chicken. no cooking from now on! you’re not allowed to be near the stove! 6 feet apart between you and the stove!” jin warned and the three nodded.
“accidents happen, you guys. but we just have to continue moving forward while making changes to make sure this doesn’t happen again,” namjoon smiled which soothed the remaining fear in her stomach.
jimin, taehyung, and nobi thought the same thing as they looked at their mother and father simultaneously.
something flashed in their eyes and it was the same exact memory from when they were still trainees and suffered at the mere thought of debut.
when the 6 of them, including yoongi, were crying and having a mental breakdown, namjoon and jin were the only ones who kept their cool and offered their hands to pull them out of that hole. when their doubts and worries overtook their minds and caused the biggest arguments in their group, namjoon and jin were the ones who stayed up many nights, figuring out ways for broadcasts to give them a chance to debut and keeping the group together.
despite their ages, they were still just children and people who were naive that got angry at the simple thought and acknowledgement of disappointment. but namjoon and jin were the ones who forced themselves to mature so they could help the others and make their dreams come true.
in a way, they dragged the others from their slump and dark thoughts and made them trail behind jin with his words of encouragement while namjoon stayed behind to make sure no one strayed away and succumbed to the temptation of sadness and giving up.
they were namjoon and jin’s little ducklings, following behind but refusing to leave the line even though they were more than capable of being their own ducks and spreading their wings to fly.
they were a family and they will continue to stay on that line until they die.
they will always be the baby ducklings since their trainee days.
a/n: maybe this wasn’t what you guys wanted :(. but i personally thought this was cute and if i did that, i think my parents would actually kill me
