#i was ENABLED by these two and their perfect headcanons

The "mistagging" was clearly not accidental, sadly. This person deliberately used the ship tag (freytos) so that the fans, myself included, would find it. Whereas the "progressive left" has demonstrated yet again how they embrace patriarchy in it's most primordial form by claiming Freya's development and "freedom" from abuse will be "downplayed" if she enters a healthy relationship with another man. This same person never received any kind of aggressive backlash or trolling when it comes to their own, completely AU and fanon headcanons about Atreus and the yaoi involving him. But they cannot extend the same courtesy to other people in the fandom, in this case freytos shippers, and refrain from using the appreciation tag for their outburst.

And as much as I absolutely hate going into that territory and playing the "Greek woman" card I cannot help but be disturbed and appalled by how Lysandra is being used as a weapon against Freytos by the people who do not - nor have they ever - cared about her. Beyond her being a "proto" Greek wife who has "fulfilled her duty" of carrying a brooding and violent man "forward" before he could find a more "advanced and developed" Nordic woman Faye who "finally fixed him". Thus, Faye has also fulfilled her duty of making Kratos into a better person and being the perfect wife and mother before dying on him. Those same people do not even recognize how misogynistic it is to reduce both Faye and Lysandra to the accessories in Kratos's story.

@rhythmsmith and @freytos already covered most of the issues with the anti-Freytos rhetoric in the replies. Therefore I will just copy and paste my own responses to their eloquent summary (you can read their comments in the reply section to this post):

This attitude stems from misogyny and the idea that women become reduced to sexual objects the moment they get involved with men. This is normalizing the society's sexist notion that romantic/sexual relationship mean an automatic loss of autonomy and agency - but only for a woman. Same notion does not extend to men and THAT is why the anti-Freytos types support all manner of ludicrous Yaoi with Kratos involved. Including Kratos and Atreus of Sparta which is absurd because Kratos would never name his son after a man he supposedly had a "crush" on let alone a relationship with. Or Kratos and Tyr and Kratos and Thor where the former has zero basis in canon and is even more fanon than Freytos (which had allusions and direct mentions of the possibility of their involvement in Valhalla). Whilst Kratos/Thor is an outright toxic ship where antagonism between two characters is being fetishized and sexualized. Those same people would bend over backwards calling an M/F ship such as this "abusive" because "dumb women" cannot resist "bad boys'" charms. But men totally can and should be paired with such bad boys.

Finally, there is the greatest evil in the form of the idea that platonic and romantic relationship should be held to a different standard.

This is why the Baldur issue only EVER comes into play when the subject of Freytos romantic involvement comes into play. This is especially offensive in the context of Freya's story where Odin's abuse of her did not exist in vacuum and was enabled and made possible by her community, her own people and both the "evil/misguided" Aesir and the "good/confused" Vanir.

Freya's own people, for whom she had entered the marriage with Odin in the first place, denounced her - including her own brother - and wrote insults on the walls of her realm in order to humiliate her for daring to exercise her agency. But both the fandom and the narrative expected Freya to just forgive and forget because this is what women ought to do.

Then the anti-Freytos types spit on abuse victims from their victim blaming, pseudo-feminist high horse when they pair Freya with Sif - a woman who raised her own daughter to consider Freya a "treacherous ex wife" of her genocidal granddaddy (but Thrud is still a "feminist icon" and should totally be friends and even "more" with Atreus who made it clear time and again he is not interested in her and who, mind you, killed her brother in cold blood; but it's totally ok, because Thrud dismissed Modi's death in an outright sociopathic manner of "we're better off without him").

Most of the anti-Freytos misogyny is repackaged patriarchy from yaoi shippers which suggests a woman loses her individuality the moment she gets involved with a man. Particularly atrocious is the rhetoric of "let Freya just be Free" after her separation from Odin and his abuse, as if commitment and romantic/marital involvement means an automatic loss of freedom and autonomy but only for women. This is both misogynistic and absolves men like Odin of responsibility for their abusive behaviors by implying that the problem was/is not them but the fact of a woman choosing to enter a relationship and marriage. And, by doing so, supposedly "signing up" for marital and domestic violence. This is a progressive version of "she had it coming".

This is also where another misogynistic claim comes into play: the idea that Freya being involved with Kratos "destroys her entire arc, their beautiful friendship and Freya's liberation from Odin's abuse". Yet again the mechanics of abuse against women is being misrepresented and implies that involvement, for a woman, comes with the inevitability of being A) abused and B) losing her freedom/autonomy. By arguing that, the anti-Freytos camp is placing the responsibility for those occurrences on women.

But a man can totally be involved with any other man because men in general have "evolved beyond" losing their individuality and freedom when they have a relationship. Only "hormonal and gullible women" do. Hence the assorted yaoi with Kratos passed off as "progressive".

The Freytos opposing crowd is so miserable they believe their "progressive misogyny" gets a pass for invading freytos tag with their "hot takes". Of course said progressive misogyny involves an insulting anti-women claim that woman's separation and freedom from her abuser (Odin in this case) would be downplayed if she enters a positive and healthy relationship with another man. And no, you do not get to play the "but Kratos killed Baldur!!11!!" card if you still "Wuv their Bootiful Friendship" and don't want it ruined by the "dirty romance" which supposedly turns women into sexual objects and robs poor men of the ability to still respect them and acknowledge their needs. Holding platonic relationship to a different standard than romantic relationship is offensive, especially when talking about a character like Freya whose marital abuse at the hands of Odin was only possible because it was enabled by the people she had platonic connections to (including her own people and her brother who had denounced her). Kratos was the only one who did not enable it.

Needless to say those progressive misogynists are totally on board with Kratos being a part of some completely fanon yaoi such as Kratos/Mimir or Kratos/Tyr or Kratos/Thor. Because men are "more complex and deep" than women and THEIR progression, development and "journey" can never be undermined if they take romantic interest in one another. Only women become servants to their hormones if they do, didn't you know?

Predictably, in order to make this progressive misogyny work and get support from the fellow "progressives" the anti-Freytos types proudly establish themselves as the "not like other girls" of the fandom who do not need to learn proper tagging.

One good thing to come out of their sexism, entitlement and lack of tagging ethic? It gives a perfect opportunity to block everyone in the notes.

Oooh this might be a controversial take (for the bireena community maybe) but I feel like I need to get it off my chest

I don’t ship sekhan, I feel like that is completely obvious, but-

I didn’t want bireena in khaos reigns either (even before it came out and sekhan became canon)

At most, I wanted them to meet, try to kill each other maybe, have no choice but to team up, and then leave off on a cliffhanger on what the future could hold. LIKE that was it. No romance yet, maybe not even an official friendship, just obscurity to set up their future.

I feel like we’re still at a point where Bi-Han needs to make a lot of personal growth first. The last thing I want him doing is putting his nasty unredeemed hands anywhere near my precious SAREEEENNNAAAA!! If they were to interact at any point in future games or kombat packs, I want the focus to be on redeeming the two (mostly bi-han) cause at the end of the day, I am a Bi-Han fan first, bireena fan second. I will even take it if they just end up as friends if that means he can finally redeem himself and not go down the constant path of evil and being someone’s side-kick.

From my time on twitter I’ve noticed the constant need of some bireena fans to attack sekhan and complain that we didn’t get bireena, which is fair they’re allowed to do that, but I think that’s genuinely the wrong way to look at this whole situation. I mean, if you wanna think in context to how Bi-han acts/ presents himself in this timeline, I actually think he and sektor make perfect sense. He doesn’t like people disagreeing with him and sektor is basically the embodiment of an enabler/ loyalist. OF COURSE, he’d be down for that (which is not to say I like sektor’s writing either, I wanted her to betray Bi-Han and push her own image onto the Lin Kuei). But I think the point of putting him with her (though I don’t want to give NRS any writing credit yet) is to show how messed up his mind is and how he goes for the wrong methods to get what he wants (like liu kang said).

I know we shouldn’t exactly take the Johnny cage announcer voice as canon but I feel like everyone is missing the “future” part in “bi-Han’s future bestie”. They still haven’t even officially met if you don’t count him kicking nitara’s ass at the Ying fortress. If they had gotten together in khaos reigns it would’ve been just as bad and poorly written as sekhan. If you wanna attack sekhan and call it forced because her entire story revolves around a man then you need to also keep in mind that if Sareena had been written as a romantic interest to Bi-Han in khaos reigns it would be the exact same thing. Sareena still has her own soul to redeem and her own past to confront. The last thing she needs is to be with a man that has all the mental maturity of a group of middle schoolers who frequent Hot Topic.

(This portion is my own headcanoning and how I want them to meet, I’ll mark where it ends)

As stated before, I think the main priority should be Bi-Han and Sareena focusing on their redemption arcs if they are to interact with each other in the future. Bi-Han needs to see the error in his ways of thinking and let go of his pride. Sareena needs to see she’s more than just an underling to Quan Chi and break free from his control. If anything, I think the best way to approach this is to maybe bring up MK Mythologies again and have them meet through that. Maybe Bi-Han gets betrayed and gets stuck in the netherrealm and has no choice but to spare a life (Sareena’s) and relies on her to help him get out. That way it would teach him the value of mercy that he didn’t understand in Khaos Reigns. And from there I think in terms of Sareena’s story she sees someone with a tainted soul and feels some empathy about that. Helping him to redeem himself- to her- would be like a way of helping her understand that no soul is too far gone and she herself can be redeemed and help others.

As far as how he would act after being “redeemed” I can’t exactly tell you how I think he would act, especially since he’s not really the apologetic type. But maybe an interesting route he can take is Kuai Liang’s old role in the previous timelines. He’s seen how fa pride can take you and how destructive it is. That way he’s the perfect perspective to redo/ remodel the Lin Kuei. Kuai Liang seems too focused with the Shirai Ryu this time around so if anyone should be redeeming the Lin Kuei it should be the guy who has taken the most mental and physical damage from being a part of it. And from that little plot line, the Shirai Ryu and the Lin Kuei can make peace with each other.

Again, THIS DOESN’T HAVE TO BE ROMANTIC FOR BIREENA. I’m more than happy if they’re just friends in the end. I just want some sort of redemption and closure for them for ONCE! They’ve been subject to so much heartbreak and evil in previous timelines, they deserve better than this one dimensional writing.

I know this may all come off as hypocritical coming from me, the most frequent poster in the bireena tag 😂, but keep in mind the type of content I post. I VERY CLEARLY do not take myself or my art very seriously and most of my art is comedy based. So before you sharpen your pitchforks and sum me up as just another bireena artist, just know I draw what entertains me the most and I’m usually not serious about it.

On Crown and Weapons and Fighting

Note/s: So I was speculating about which of the Crown members can actually fight, like who among them is actually good at it, has legit combat knowledge, and is capable of punching someone into the next century, and as a result, this post kinda got out of hand.

I initially meant this to be very chill and casual, but it turns out I have a lot to say and the ideas just ran off on their own, and I had no choice but to follow along to see where it took me.

I doubt I'd be able to make a proper headcanon post like this again soon unless someone suggested another topic, but yeah. Hope this turned out well >:3

Might be controversial, but I think William's more reliant on the use of weapons than his actual combat prowess.

As a noble, I think he learned fencing in his youth, and while he was good at it, I don't think he ever took it seriously until the day he decided to kill his father and establish Crown with Victor afterwards. He learned the intricacies of wielding a blade, and he even started to appreciate the art of swordplay during mock combat sessions with Victor.

Most of the time, though, he doesn't even need to use his sword because he can incapacitate someone easily with his power alone. His preferred method of dishing out punishment is still by ordering someone to take their own life because it serves to prove a point; it's to rob his victims of agency the same way they've done to countless innocents before they had the misfortune of being dealt with by him.

He rarely ever deviates from his trademark “Cut your throat”, but when he's feeling extra devilish and in the mood to prolong a target's suffering and instill the fear of God in them, that's when his extensive knowledge on human anatomy comes in handy. He knows all the places to cut that can effectively kill a person in a matter of seconds, so if he purposely avoids them, there must be a special place in hell waiting for you once he finally decides to send you there.

I have a gun-user Harrison agenda, and this is the perfect time to mention it! That sword that's strapped to his hip at all times is nonexistent to me. He carries a gun, bitch (maybe even two), and he's not afraid to use it. Also, his main weapon being a gun is, in my opinion, a perfect reference to his abandoned dreams of becoming a cop and joining the police force (such a real missed opportunity there cybird). 

I like to imagine he does regular target practice with Roger in the garden. They line up all manners of ceramic and clayware, then use air guns and pellets to avoid accidentally killing someone or themselves. Roger would prefer the target practice to commence at dawn, but he knows he has a better chance of convincing the Queen herself to join him in the flesh than for Harry to be up and functioning during the early hours of the morning.

Roger also probably invites him to go hunting with his dad when it's the season. It's my way of giving Harrison a proxy father figure because God knows he needs a new one, but I also just really like the idea of them being good friends. Just a couple of book-smart intellectuals with a penchant for firearms.

But combat-wise, he's in the same boat as Will in that I don't think he knows anything beyond basic self-defense and how to effectively disarm someone. Like he knows how to throw a punch, sure, but his overall martial prowess isn't anything noteworthy or that impressive, to be honest.

Liam is a bit of a wildcard when it comes to fighting. His greatest strength lies in his ability, which enables him to disappear at will, allowing him to sneak up on enemies and immobilize them even without having to make his presence known.

He can use it from the jump or even in the midst of a scuffle to neutralize a disadvantage in skill or physicality on his part by virtue of having the element of surprise and the unpredictable factor it gives him. Imagine how embarrassing it would be, too, because if he's invisible for most of the fight, it's going to look like you're fighting air and losing.

While I don't think Liam has had any formal martial arts training that would put him a peg above Harry and Will in terms of combat, he's quite difficult to defend against given the no-limit-or-drawbacks-of-any-kind invisibility, not to mention he also moves rather swiftly.

He's light on his feet, has good instincts, and possesses cat-like agility. You'd be hard-pressed not to feel a bit paranoid when you're up against him because he can easily swoop in and go for the kill to stick a knife in your back or slice at your throat, and you wouldn't even be able to brace for it. Although maybe sudden death is more merciful than the unfortunate alternative of being a victim to one of his fits.

Frail Victorian Child™. Bro is an aristocrat with an abysmal appetite. He eats so fucking little, a plant probably consumes more sustenance than him during the course of its much shorter lifespan. Every time he sneezes, the others are probably in awe at how he doesn't disintegrate on the spot.

What combat? This man is fighting to stay alive and not die of starvation and/or dehydration on a daily basis.

With that said, it's my personal headcanon that he probably took up fencing after the doctor incident as a proper way of defending himself in case something similar were to ever happen again.

Despite being constantly at risk of getting blown away by strong winds, he has his moments where the monomania kicks in and the uncharacteristic strength and energy the resulting single-mindedness lends him enables him to accomplish and acquire pretty much anything he sets his sights on (as demonstrated in his route).

I'm just gonna put it out there, this man can't fight. Can't throw a punch, an elbow, a kick—nothing. He can't throw anything, but he's probably very adept at tossing someone's salad.

He doesn't like performing any kind of manual labor because it reminds him of his atrocious childhood. And he harps on Roger for being burly and brutish because one of Roger's hobbies is learning how to beat someone up for fun.

The best he can do is probably bitch slap someone, but even then he's shaking off his hand to get rid of the sting. He's fortunate that his ability is like Will and Elbert's, where he's able to incapacitate someone without expending much effort on his part, because he is not at all inclined to build muscle or learn the art of combat whatsoever.

Can and will punch your lights out; no questions asked. He's been frequenting bars and pubs all his life; it's probably a dream of his to get into a brawl at one of them for any reason at all, but no one's insane enough to pick a fight with him on account of his immense height and intimidating build.

Fun fact: the average height of men during the Victorian era was around 167 cm. Roger's height is 183 cm. Bro is several inches taller than the average English gentleman. Not to mention he's swol as fuck, too. A good deal more muscular than a regular doctor has any right to be.

I'm pretty sure he's capable of killing a man even with just his bare hands. Like just punching someone to death, I'm sure he could do it if prompted, but it's not a level of violence he would ever sink to nor indulge in.

Weapons-wise, I think it's interesting how he's essentially the sharpshooter in Crown despite being one of the few proficient members at hand-to-hand combat. Like it makes sense because he can identify targets at a distance due to his enhanced hearing, so a long-range weapon is a no-brainer. Very practical given his ability, but at the same time, kind of funny because of his poor eyesight. Luckily, that's what the scope is for.

Has demonstrated countless times in canon that he can fight. He's tall and gangly, but swift and agile like an acrobat, and he probably trains with Roger and asks him to give him pointers on top of that.

He's employed by Jude as well as a two-in-one bodyguard/assistant, so I bet he's somewhat motivated to maintain his skills and physicality due to that fact, but I get the sense that he also just really enjoys it.

His natural athleticism gives me the impression of a kid who used to climb up trees in their yard growing up, even though his parents kept telling him not to. I think it's cute to imagine him as a rambunctious kid with a surplus of energy that he had to burn by climbing trees as high as he could and constantly chasing his twin brother around, or else he'd be restless and making his parents lose sleep come nightfall.

Ellis' gentle demeanor actually works to his advantage because it's hard to imagine someone so calm and soft-spoken being able to commit murder so swift and easily at the behest of someone else. Jude could order him to carve someone up like they're cake about to be served at a birthday party, and he'd do it with an air of perfect serenity.

You must have a death wish if you want to square up against this motherfucker. Ellis isn't even necessary, the man is fully capable of winning his own battles. The only reason he has Ellis as a semi-bodyguard is because he doesn't have the time nor the patience to knock someone's teeth in himself.

Like, oh, you have a personal vendetta against him and are looking to settle the score? Yeah, well, so does everybody else; get in line and kindly wait for his assistant to duke it out with you. Very sorry that he can't address your grudge personally; he has places to be and people to extort—I mean solicit.

If you insist on having your grudge satisfied by him and him alone, so be it. Although, truth be told, you might've preferred being handled by his assistant had you an idea of the sheer hell your persistence would be awarded with beforehand. Jude knows how to fight and he's not at all reluctant to get dirty with it.

If you think he's above kicking someone who's already down, you're wrong. If you think he knows when to call it quits and stop to say someone's had enough, you're wrong. If you think lopping off a limb or two just 'cause he can is extreme and twisted and kind of psychotic, you're right! But he doesn't care; this is what you asked for, and he's all too happy to finally silence the buzzing of persistent pests.

Jude is already menacing and dangerous on his own; weapons just multiply his deadliness tenfold. He'd be the type to wear steel-toed boots as his everyday work shoes just to make it hurt all the more for whomever is at the receiving end of his kicks. He enjoys causing pain not only as a result of his Curse, but also because of the cruelty the world has imbued in him. He's looking to repay that hurt to anyone foolish enough to cross him.

Victor is bit of an enigma. He's a weapons enthusiast in canon and has what I assume to be an impressive collection of varying blades and daggers and guns and even unconventional weapons like axes, machetes, and whips. The real question is whether or not he knows how to use all of them or if he's only mastered a select few and is actively working to have the rest down pat.

He doesn't go on missions anymore like he used to when it was just him and Will because it's no longer necessary after acquiring so many new and deployable members, and it's better for him to be able to attend to the Queen's every beck and call as her trusted aide.

But on that front, I like to think that what William lacked in combat prowess, Victor had in spades. Apart from helping Will hone his skills with a sword, Victor taught him how to trade blows, evade punches, and the fastest way of knocking someone flat. It's been many years since Victor joined him on the prowl, but Will is still mindful of his lessons, and he even shares them with the others whenever the opportunity presents itself.

Also, if you missed out on certain events, he has this thing where he touches the back of someone's neck and they immediately crumple to the ground, unconscious. I don't know if that's his special ability or if it's just a neat trick he knows how to do, like the metaphorical button on someone's jaw you can hit in order to make them go cold. Either way, Mister Grim Reaper, sir, please tell us more of your secrets.

Ok, starting off. A lot of people think he wouldn't like to be touched. But i think it's the opposite.

He is extremely touchy. Not it that kinda way he just likes to give you lots of hugs and stuff along those lines

He just really loves stuff like that.

But he does it a lot in public, and he doesn't understand the concept of PDA being frowned upon.

Well actually your not sure it he's actually confused or just doesn't care.

But that's the fun part you never know with him.

Another thing he adores is doing your hair. And he's surprisingly good at it.

He knows how to do a bunch of intricate hairstyles, and it's one of the few times you get to see him truly focused besides when he's touching us his stitches or trying to draw.

Speaking of stitches.

He would probably want to give you some to match his. And if you agree, he gets really excited.

If not, he will drop it for a little bit . I will probably ask you again every once in a while.

Just cause he acts a bit childish does not mean he's clueless.

And he really likes to make you remember this. It's his favorite thing to watch you look at him in a bit of shock when he says something smart as hell.

You could be confused about something, and he will just pop up behind you, give you an answer, and run off with a laugh and a smile.

On the other hand, though, he gets more confused when it comes to social interactions.

You do a lot of the talking.

If you didn't, there would be a lot more drama surrounding yall cause juuzou has zero filter.

Come home from a long day at work, and either he's waiting for you to tell him the tea, or he's got the most jaw-dropping shit to tell you.

Apparently, they are messy as hell at the CCG 😭.

And it's perfect because people tend to get the impression that he's not listening to what's going on around him when he spaces out.

Yeah he is listening to EVERYTHING.

You two are like that couple who are just best friends, honestly.

Always together, always on the same page. It's lowkey adorable. Sometimes a little creepy. But it's whatever.

I will say this

Personality wise, if you are a calmer person it's really nice cause you balance him out a bit, and your personality mix together a little so he might chill a bit more and you might gain some of his energy, which makes life a bit easier for everyone including you guys.

But if your just as hyper it's a whole thing. You guys are crazy together. Lowkey be enabling each other into doing dumb shit on the daily, and that can get a bit dangerous as juuzou has a high pain tolerance, so 1. If you dare him to do something stupid and he gets really hurt, he might not notice right away, and it could cause issues. Or 2. He dares you to do something, not aware of how painful it should be, and you end up getting hurt.

Either way, somebody is injured.

It's ok though at least yall are happy together. 😭

+ Sponge is a neat freak and Sandy lives in organized chaos. This drives the other crazy a little bit

+ Sandy has always been “too much” for people, just like sponge. Do you have any more headcanons about the Senju?

Here is a loooooong post with assorted collection of Senju clan HCs for you! They main apply to the Warring States era and early Founders Era. Some of them are new, some I've picked up from some of my older posts.

Disclaimer: This is HC's of the general culture. People are people and won't act in perfect alignment with the norms or social etiquette that is encouraged, may interpret them differently or disagree with them entirely.  Hashirama and Konoha also brought drastic change which ended or drastically changed some of these traditions and norms.

CW for a bunch of stuff including but not limited to war, injury, pregnancy, childbirth, sex, abuse, death and more. Reader discretion is advised.

As far as religion goes the Senju lean more into Shinbutsu-shūgō (Syncretism of Shintoism and Buddhism), but a number consider themselves to have little to no attachment to spirituality. Ancestor worship is the most commonly displayed spiritual practice among Senju.

Ashura fought and worked hard for his abilities and gained much from the support of others, and the Senju towards the end of the WS era have managed to breed certain beneficial traits into becoming extremely common within their clan. This includes possessing a genetic anomaly that gives 9/10 Senju a natural affinity for two of the five basic chakra natures, as opposed to just one which is the universal norm (with the exception of a handful of clans with rare kekkei genkai).  Another incredibly common trait in Senju was in fact passed on from their ancestor Ashura, which is immense physical strength, stamina and energy (see more notes in next point). Their natural physical strength and muscle density is immense, allowing them to achieve feats that would otherwise be incredibly difficult or impossible to achieve without enhancing your ability with chakra and pushing the natural limits of your body. Stamina can be used to mold into chakra for performing ninjutsu techniques. Having lots of stamina allows them to perform many or stronger techniques while still having energy left to remain physically active. Their strong life-force, which they share with their relatives the Uzumaki, makes them hard to kill. They can be severely injured but still cling to life, even if they may not be able to keep fighting at the time. These traits have allowed them to keep up with the rival and otherwise unmatched Uchiha clan. Their average is what others would consider impressive.  

Notes on Physical Energy - The Senju and the Uzumaki Life-force I interpret this as the strength of the bond between the body and the soul. Having strong life-force enables you to stay alive even when your body is put through trauma or illness that can be lethal. It doesn’t mean you are immortal or invulnerable, that you won’t feel the pain or other symtoms of the trauma, or not needing to recover, only that it won’t kill you as easily as it might another. It’s what maintains life within you. Associated with both the Senju and the Uzumaki, but the latter in particular Vitality I interpret this as the energy that drives you to do stuff, to be active. If life-force is the energy that maintains your fundamental state of being alive, vitality is the energy that drives you and makes you feel alive. It’s what allows you to feel healthy and capable and energetic. It’s the energy that gives you the strength and enthusiasm to do things. It is the drive to act, to grow and develop. You could describe a person with lots of vitality as someone who is spirited, passionate, as vigorous, as lively or energetic. The opposite of vitality could be lethargy, sloth or apathy. Associated with both the Senju and the Uzumaki Stamina I can keep doing X activity for Y amount of time at maximum and high intensity before I start to feel tired.  It’s about maximizing the energy you put into an activity. Eg. How long can you keep running at the speed you started at before you begin to feel out of breath, your legs burning and feel the need to slow down or take a break? (Can also be applied to mental stamina, but the Yang energy, which is what Ashura’s descendants inherited, is specifically associated with the physical body) Associated with the Senju Resilience Is your physical ability to withstand or adapt and maintain function through changes in circumstances, adversity or difficulties such as illness, injury or other difficult physical demands, and then recover once it has passed. How quickly and effectively you will ‘bounce back’, such as recovering from an injury, or adjust and adapt  to the altered circumstance, such as managing an acquired physical disability because of an injury. (Can also be applied to mental resilience, but the Yang energy, which is what Asura’s descendants inherited, is specifically associated with the physical body) Associated with the Uzumaki Physical strength What is sounds like; the force or resistance your muscles are able to exert on physical objects. How much can you lift? How hard can you punch or kick something? If you are being pushed how hard can you push back? This strength manifests in the density of their musculature, which is insane. Not only does their musculature allow them feats of physical strength and endurance, but it also makes their bodies sturdier to an extent; as it supports and protects the integrity and stability of joints and bones. (IRL Muscle density refers to the amount lean muscle tissue in comparison to the amount of fatty tissue in your body. Specifically the amount of fat between the fibres of muscle. Denser muscle with less fat between the fibers allows for increased strength as they can contract more efficiently and with more force. Does not translate to the size or mass of muscles however, or even how 'fit’ you may appear aesthetically. You can have visually large muscle mass but have low muscle density and vise versa.) Associated with the Senju.

They are typically run by primogeniture, where the oldest child, regardless of gender, of the current clan head will by default be raised to become the heir. However, if the current or future clan head displays physical or mental weakness, inability to lead or doesn’t seem to put the best interest of the clan’s current and future welfare and survival before their personal ones, then they can be deposed and replaced by someone the clan deems more fit for the role. So the Senju has no ‘main branch’, although in some cases the line of succession within a specific family has remained unbroken for several generations. As is the case with Hashirama's family. 

The Senju is a clan large enough that nobody knows everybody, but small enough that everyone can recognise anyone, and new faces do stick out.

One is typically most familiar with those who are of their generation and age group, as they would have all been trained together from a young age.

The Senju have a tradition of gifting girls and women jade bracelets. A girl will receive her first bracelet by her father when she's young, and might be larger so that she can grow into it, one from both her parents when she comes of age at sixteen, one from her mother the day she gets married, and one from her lover before she marries as a symbol of enduring love, loyalty, and willingness to care for and protect the recipient. The jade bracelet gifted from her lover is the only piece of adornment that tells the world a Senju woman is in a committed relationship. She may also be gifted one by her new father-and mother-in-law when she marries, and another by her husband when she has given birth to a child. Some Senju women only possess one bracelet, while others have many. It is no requirement to always wear them, and some are maybe unable to wear the ones they received as children. Most also remove them for training, assignments or activities where it may be damaged. Others choose to always wear them and rarely, if ever, remove them, and some would have to break it order to get it off. But not wearing it at all regularly was seen as bad luck as the stone was seen as living and needed to be cared for and connected with to obtain the benefits.

It is typical to wear these jade bracelets on ones non-dominant hand, and can be in the form of solid bangles, hinged bangles or beads on a string and tied onto the wrist.

Jade was seen as a symbol of prosperity, success, good fortune and longevity, as well as love, beauty, sincerity, physical strength and health, clarity of mind and purity of spirit. All aspects and traits one would want to attract for the wearer throughout her life. Jade was also heavily associated with the earth, its color and connecting the Senju to their forest.

Jade is also valuable overall so they are precious gifts that can be sold if the woman and her family runs into financial difficulties.

The Senju does allow non-Senju to marry into the clan, but not often and not casually. Still about 20% of all Senju are actually outsiders who were adopted into the clan when they were very young. Adoption is the far more common way for an outsider to be accepted into the Senju. Many of them were not raised to become shinobi the same as any child born a Senju was, though some were, it would depend on the child in question. This has on occasion given the Senju a reputation as child stealing, although these children have usually been orphaned and displaced by the war. Not to say it has never happened that a child was taken in against the wishes of their parents, or snatched from another shinobi clan.

Whenever a non-Senju marries into the clan they are almost always a civilian with no shinobi background.

If you as a Senju did wish to marry within the clan, as a rule choosing anybody that is closer to you than at least five generations removed (i.e. your closest shared ancestor is your great- great- grandparents) will be considered unsuitable and is discouraged, if not straight-up forbidden.

Having shinobi from other shinobi clans marry into theirs is very rare because of the risks it can entail to bring shinobi into the heart of their home. Clans were far too often pitted against each other by employers regardless of any alliances they may have, so it was risky to bring in new members who's loyalty could easily be swayed by sentimental feelings and loyalty for their original clan. Mito was allowed to marry into the clan because the Senju and Uzumaki have historical ties and an overall good to neutral relationship, and because she was the one Hashirama chose so an exception was made.

Respect for your parents and elders is an integral part of social etiquette.  Seniority can trump rank. A younger member with a high rank is still expected to respect and take into account an older member's input and experience. The parents of a child are responsible for teaching their children about this etiquette, as a child being disrespectful towards an elder, be they a sibling, parent, distant relative or otherwise, will shine a bad light on their family. Hashirama’s public and loud display of anger towards Butsuma during Kawarama’s funeral broke both the etiquette of respecting your elders and parents, and respecting the dead. 

Teamwork and comradery is highly encouraged and the Senju are known for their efficiency when working in squads of five to ten individuals. Their tactics and ability to quickly regroup and adapt to a situation as a unit is drilled into them from a young age. Some of these tactics have been specifically formed to deal with Uchiha who have the sharingan, exploiting the weaknesses of the dojutsu such as blind spots and any disproportion between the sharingan taking in information and the body being able to act upon it. Though some find them predictable because of this, it's nonetheless acknowledged that they are highly efficient and dangerous when they are working together, which is why opponents may attempt to divide the group. (Also one of the reasons why I believe the Senju died out. They had thrived on their methods during the WS era but were uprooted by the new mixed team system and became weaker for it, dying more frequently in combat.) 

As the Senju put a lot of emphasis on camaraderie, they promote relationships of trust and devotion between peers over strictly familial or filial ones. Treat and love all your peers as your brothers and sisters.  Get along, be respectful of each other, and stay close. Love and support each other for life. 

You are considered an adult by the age of 16, at which point you can attend clan meetings get a say in how the clan is being run. At this time making it to 16 boosted your chances of living to 40 to about 80%. (Before the years of the plague around 790CE, about 200 years before Hashirama, which resulted in what was necessity and desperation turned into a tradition of deploying children as young as 6 and 7 into war, those under 13 would rarely be given missions, much less be a part of open combat. If they were brought into the field, their involvement in actual combat was minimal at most, and instead served to help out at the campsites, help care for wounded and such things.They were still trained hard from early childhood, and were expected to be fit for combat by fifteen at the latest, but by then most would have been able to form enough strength and ability to actually keep up reasonably well with the adults. But once Hashirama became clan head he pushed for strictly refusing anyone under 15 to be given missions, and nobody under 16 was to be made to participate in war campaigns and had to go through an evaluation of their skills before being allowed to do so.)  

You are considered eligible for marriage by 18 for boys, and 20 for girls. 

Having children before that point is absolutely not encouraged. The desire was for one's body to be fully developed, strong and healthy before you decide to have a child, regardless if you are the one who will be pregnant or the one who impregnates. The average age for having your first child was somewhere between 20 and 25 for women.

Menstruation and contraceptives HC

The Senju does not practice polygamy or concubinage, and having children outside of marriage is discouraged as it makes keeping track of who is related to who far more difficult.

A woman could have children without being married or even have the father involved in her life at all, and it wasn't considered bad as much as impractical, but it would be expected of her to still know who the father was so that the child's lineage could be accurately recorded for future reference. In these cases the children would be recorded as members of the bloodline she was born into, but still with a note of their paternal ancestry.

Contraceptives and abortifacients were considered incredibly common medicines and widely used by the Senju so unexpected or unwanted pregnancies carried to term were rare.  Procreation however is your duty to the clan, and there is a general expectation and pressure that all members should sire and raise at least one child in their life, and becoming a parent would boost one's social standing within the clan a bit. 

It was considered more acceptable for a woman to have several children by different fathers, than it was for a man to have several children by different mothers. Again it comes back to maintaining the bloodlines. Just one man somehow persuading multiple women even in a short amount of time to have his children could spell a great deal of trouble down the line, if there were too many half-siblings catching an interest for each other. A Senju displaying behavior like this and carelessly undermining the lasting well being of the entire clan for his own gratification could end up being severely reprimanded, as in have his ability to ever have any more children removed. Permanently.

Marriage traditions are overall practical and uncomplicated. Very rarely a grand affair and was typically small and intimate. At it's most basic the couple more or less just has to state they take each other to be their respective partner in marriage, in front of a witness, and it's considered legitimate once the couple has been noted in what can be described as a family registry. Having a small celebration with close friends and immediate family is not unusual though.

There is a lingering tradition of asking for the father's permission to marry a daughter, but more often than not the prospective couple have already entertained a relationship for a while, and frankly asking for permission is just a curtesy and display of respect. If the family dissaproves then elopements are common. And the clan overall usually don't care much for such drama, unless one of the pair is a non-Senju or is a Senju but turns out to be too closely related to the other. If it's the latter case, then the pair's marriage will be considered void and they will not be allowed to live together, and that however can create some significant drama.

While procreation is is very much promoted as a duty and necessity for the clan's future, sex is also seen by the Senju as entertainment and socialization, and something to be enjoyed between equals, regardless if it's between casual lovers seeking a moment of escapism during a campaign, or a married couple in their shared home. Known for their open hearted and casual view on the topic which some find uninhibited and offensive. Although no self-respecting Senju would be caught dead in a brothel or ever dream of paying somebody for sex, they are often known to be unabashed flirts, both towards other Senju and outsiders, and to outsiders they would seem to not strictly limit themselves to their marital partner, and premarital, relational, recreational and casual sex is normal. Some non-Senju find this alluring and enticing, others are appalled and see this behavior as licentious and inappropriate.

The Senju however often also think other clans are too stiff and restricted in the way they are allowed physical expressions of love, sexual fulfillment and even just platonic affection.  Life is way too short for that.

While polygamy was not accepted within the Senju, polyamory was generally fine, and both men and women could have consensual extramarital relationships and lovers and most would look the other way. As long as it was done discreetly and with one's marital partner's consent to such an arrangement, without humiliating them by publicly favoring their lover, and you still respected, honored and performed your role as a husband/wife or father/mother. Having at least one child with one's spouse was also generally a requirement for others to be accepting of a couple seeking any emotional or physical fulfillment or other connection that could not be found within their marriage. And again. Having children outside of one's marriage was strongly discouraged for bloodline and record reasons.

While polyamory, sexual and romantic relationships outside of marriage weren't necessarily frowned upon, and one was overall expected to be discreet, attempting to actively hide and deny the existence of these relationships very much was. It signaled shame for what they were doing and likely was doing something that was not a part of the agreement between them and their partner, and was seen as manipulating and betraying the mutual trust and respect between a married couple.

Divorce was a possibility, but rare. If one partner started favoring their extramarital lovers and relationships over their marital and familial ones, or mistreated their family, then the other partner or even their relatives could bring up the issue and demand a separation. Although during the era of warring states, a marriage usually didn't last long enough for a divorce to come up as a necessity, as one or both of the pair were likely to die in the line of duty fairly young. When that happened, it was not at all uncommon, encouraged in fact,  for the surviving partner to remarry if they so wished.

The “Will of Fire” before Hashirama came along was a philosophy of the Senju, but it was different. It centered the current and future prosperity of the clan and the bonds you had with others within it and it alone, for your family and friends, not a village. A Senju during the WS era and early founders era would speak of the Will of Fire and in doing such mean something song these lines: “Fight for each day, never relent but if you believe you are going to die ensure you don’t go down without a fight.” “I will stay alive for the prosperity of my clan, I will fight to let all those I love thrive for one more day, but if I have to die in the process of securing their future I will take my enemies down with me.” “Fight to stay alive for the future of your clan, let that drive burn within you…but if you see the end ahead of you, make sure you let your enemies burn down with you.”

Speaking ill of or disrespecting the memory, resting-place or places for memorial of the dead is deeply frowned upon

Disciplinary action can be physical and very unpleasant depending on the offence.

'Tough Love' is the dominating norm, and coddling children too much is considered deeply detrimental to their future.

Honor your clan. Wear your crest with pride and dignity. When you wear your clan's crest, you represent it, so never act in a way that will bring shame upon it and all others who wear it, have worn it and will wear it in the future.

Life is fleeting and impermanent, and death is an inevitable part of life. Everything ends one way or another. Accept this irrefutable truth. Train hard, and fight with discipline and vigor and with the anticipation of death, and seize and enjoy the time between. Celebrate the things you fight for, love deeply, and find pleasure in the simple things when you can.

Don't speak without thinking, and speak only when you have something worth saying. Senju can be considered blunt, but overall sincere.

Do not waste food or drink. If you really do not wish to eat or drink what you are offered for some reason, accept it politely but leave it without eating or drinking it. Food was frequently scarce during the WS era, so refusing food was not only impolite but also just plain wasteful. 

Maintain good hygiene. When in the field, take all opportunities that are offered to wash up.  Keep your clothing and equipment clean, neat and maintained as well. Treat your belongings well, or they might fail you when you need them, and they may not be easy to replace. Treating your belongings poorly or having a dishevelled appearance can not only be cause of disapproving looks, but even disciplinary action. You represent the Senju and a higher class of professional soldiers, you should look and act the part.

Variations of games such as capture the flag, dodgeball, episkyros and tag are a common part of training in order to promote dexterity, teamwork, strategic thinking, perception and taking swift decisive action based on the circumstances.   

Some acts of disobedience are more acceptable than others, and it is usually rather a matter of if you get caught doing it. For example, if you get caught sneaking out of the house at night you'll get scolded or disciplined for being caught, rather than the act of trying to sneak out itself.

Shinobi children often had many siblings, and parents that could be away from the home for extended periods of time or die suddenly, so being able to help care for their family by performing domestic and household tasks and being self-sufficient was important regardless of gender. This responsibility particularly falls onto the oldest child, but everyone is expected to pull their weight when needed and however they are able. The parents or closest living adult relative are the ones expected to make sure their children gain these skills.

A shinobi will have to do and endure terrible things, you are expected to be relentless, cold, and uncompromising in battle, but you should always separate who you must be on the battlefield from from the one you are at home. You have to learn this. If you get consumed by anger or pain or grief and can't function off the battlefield, or start engaging in antisocial behaviour and needless cruelty towards fellow Senju, civilians or even enemies in some cases, you are a burden to the rest of the clan.

It is alright to grieve, but you should not let it, or any other emotion for that matter, consume you.  That makes you a problem. Don't be a problem.

Treat guests with respect and hospitality. Although the Senju rarely bring outsiders into their settlement, they are excellent hosts when they do. And once the village was founded and you visited a Senju household, you would always be offered to at least sit down and have some tea before you left.

If possible the Senju prefer to bury their dead respectfully in coffins, but are also frequently known to also burn them if they can't bring the remains with them to be buried. In those cases a portion of the ashes are typically retrieved to be buried or spread elsewhere. Worst case the remains will be left where they have fallen if circumstances makes them unrecoverable. Sadly that is an all too common reality. Regardless of how or if they were given a proper burial or sendoff, the dead are primarily honored at household shrines and in memory groves.

There are a two memory groves in the Senju's forest, several centuries old but the clan does its best to maintain them, because they are very important to them. They are essentially parts of the forest that has become places for honoring and remembering the dead. After the remains of fallen members of the clan who couldn't be retrieved and buried properly are burned, a portion of the ashes will be gathered and brought back home then buried or spread in these groves. But those who's remains couldn't be found or retrieved, buried or burned at all are also given space for remembrance. There are no headstones or markers, but like the rest of the forest there are statues of Jizo and the Buddha, as well as shrine-like formations set up where lanterns can be lit, incense, offerings, and such can be placed. The Senju visits these mossy groves to remember and honor their fallen friends, family and ancestors, named and unnamed, to pray and to meditate in the quiet and peaceful setting.

When you visits it is customary to treat the grove with care and respect, to keep the space cleared of branches that may have fallen from the trees, perhaps take the time to clean the statues and shrine, remove wilted flowers, burned out incense and offerings worn out by the elements. Children are frequently brought to the groves and allowed to help keep them maintained and to gain an appreciation for the significance of the sacred space. Food offerings are not left in these groves as it attracts wildlife, so such offerings are typically left at a household shrine.

During Obon these groves gets extra attention and visitation.

Because of their habit of adopting outsiders into the clan, the physical appearance of the Senju can vary greatly and the clan has seen everything from very dark skin to very fair, from black hair to white, and everything in between such as hues of red, brown and golden blonde, including rarities such as light blue, purple and green. Though brown hair and dark eyes are the dominating features.

The birth of a child is a momentous occasion that will be celebrated more than most others. It is one of the occasions where the father of the unborn child (assuming he's alive and that the mother wants him there) is expected to drop everything and be present for the birth and any siblings will be called home. The father of an expectant mother in the late stages of pregnancy will usually not be given assignments that he can't easily return home from, and if he still knowingly accepts such an assignment it may make him look bad. The father will be present during the birth to support the mother and will be expected to help if he's needed, but a midwife or an experienced mother or other trusted female relative or friend will be the primary attendants of the birth.

After the birth, the placenta will be wrapped in cloth and buried, returned to nature, by the father and any siblings of the newborn.

It is typical that the child's name won't be shared until it is a week old, at which point available friends and family will celebrate the strength, efforts and continued health of the mother and the new addition to the family and the clan with gifts, talismans and blessings. But from the moment the baby draws breath, it should not be touched by anyone other than the mother, father, it's siblings and the midwife who delivered it for a month, as to make sure it is strong enough to not catch any illnesses.

While giving new clothes to a couple for their wedding day is considered optional, and is usually skipped in favor or simply thoroughly washing and mending their best garments to wear, it was definitely encouraged and seen as auspicious to gift new blankets, swaddles, bedding, and clothing to a newborn.

Although life expectancy was short and that it was rarely easy or kind to shinobi, it did not stop people from celebrating and hoping for the child to live a long, happy and prosperous life.

During that first week the family would be given time of solitude and bonding, and the mother should be allowed to rest. She may walk around if she's feeling ready for it, but she should refrain from doing much else than caring for herself, her needs and those of her new baby.

While the mother recovers from the birth and tends to the infant, the father will get all the responsibility to look after her and the rest of their family by doing household chores, making sure the mother is fed hearty and nutritious food so that she may regain her strength, that she gets opportunities to bathe, he'll look after their other children, and so on. While others are meant to offer space and quiet to the family, close relatives like the parents of the mother and father or their siblings may visit to offer support and help with these tasks, or be there in the place of the father if he's for some reason not in the picture, but if he is he's the one expected to be there for the mother and their family at this important time. Shrinking away from this very important responsibility paints him in a bad light which can be cause for separation and affect his social standing within the clan. The long, laborious and dangerous but invaluable undertaking of carrying and birthing a child into world, to the clan, should be treated with nothing less than respect, support and celebration.

Unless circumstances demand otherwise, the mother will remain at home with the infant for at least two months before she's expected to return to her duties as shinobi. She's typically not expected to take on assignments that takes her away from the infant for extended periods before the child is at least 18 months or so old. The time between a mother's later stages of pregnancy, the first few months and two or so years of the new child's life would likely be the longest mostly uninterrupted time she would get to spend at her home with her children, before missions and campaigns would keep her away from them for sporadic and often extended periods. The case was worse for fathers. Sadly this could create distance and tension between the children and the parents if efforts weren't made to stay in touch and really treasure the time they did have with them. Which usually wasn't easy.

As the child grows older and less dependent on the mother, other family-members such a grandparents, aunts and uncles, cousins, older siblings, neighbours and family friends and so on will help in looking after each other when the parents were not around. As mentioned previously, if none of the parents were around and no other senior family members were present, then the oldest sibling held responsibility for the younger ones.

If the child was a girl, she will typically receive her first jade bracelet between the age of 3-7

How do you think Erza's relationship with Natsu and Gray changed post-Tower of Heaven arc? I know we see it in small ways (i.e. Gray being more open with her in one-on-one heart-to-hearts, Natsu trusting her to win her fights and live in the Battle of Fairy Tail arc, etc) but I was wondering if you had any specific headcanons I guess. Thanks :]

I wonder how long this ask has been in my inbox... sorry for taking so long! I think you might not even remember this ask either, but I'll answer it anyways, thanks!

Now-

I guess the most notable one would be that Erza goes from being the strict mediator of Natsu-Gray fights-- into someone that actively jumps into fights, too. She drifts from her role as the stern, serious knight into a playful enabler. I think this also happen because Lucy is in the fray now. I like to think that as a child, she was always put into the role of the mature, selfless, protective big sister of the group, and so continued it in Fairy Tail all the way to Phantom. After that (after she learned that she doesn't need to lead the battle, doesn't need to sacrifice, doesn't need to be strong, because she can be protected too by her friends--) she learns to let loose and be as cheeky and playful and whimsical as she likes. Like the young girl that used to want to do silly things like fly in the sky on a witch's broom, after TOH, she lets herself play and have fun. Her barrel-surfing at the bar during GMG is a good example.

Another point is her attitude towards love. (I have mixed feelings about Erza becoming local wingwoman in canon, but let's not talk about that today.) Before TOH, she didn't seem all that interested in romance anymore because of what happened to Jellal-- maybe a passing fancy, a sort of 'hey, that's cute' or 'oh, you're a couple, good for you' kind of detached attitude towards it. But after it, I'd love to think she starts jumping into being supportive of romances around her. She's much more perceptive to love between others because she's been holding back her own for so long thinking it was impossible, and she doesn't want anyone else to go through the same pain she did when the world kept getting in the way of her and Jellal's relationship. She naive and innocent, but when it comes to love, she's aware. She knows Alzack and Bisca like each other--- everyone does! She talks to Gray about returning Juvia's feelings. This insightful nature in Erza, borne of being heartbroken many times before--- is why Jerza's the only big four that actually have a long, genuine talk about how they want to advance their relationship each step of the way. This makes Jerza the most well-handled of the big four in my opinion. Not perfect, but it's a rocky, painful relationship that actually feels in some way like a realistic progression between two people trying to take a step towards a future together, considering if they're ready for a relationship before progressing.

Alright, enough Jerza, next.

Following on that Gray point. I really love the way Gray and Erza have a relationship where they truly let their hearts open to each other. Before TOH, it seems as if Gray is always chasing after Erza. From childhood, to TOH, Gray is always going after her, trying to break through her facade of strength to get one over her. It evolves into care after he sees her cry. Erza doesn't start returning this until Galuna, when she point her sword at him and threatens his loyalty Fairy Tail if he doesn't stop. She didn't try to see his perspective, and he threw it all back at her with the threat of 'kill me, then'. That was likely the first instance Erza truly felt Gray actually angry at her. He's been cranky, childishly competitive, and fearful of her--- but never so disappointed and broken. She sees Gray's anger with the same shock as Gray did, when he saw Erza's tears when they were young. Natsu's absent during their backstories, so Erza and Gray are the ones to hear each other out, (including Lucy, our insert character) and they are the ones to truly stand by each other and understand each other in their most vulnerable moments. They fight to get to that point in each other, and to me, they feel closer than they do to Natsu, even though Natsu is undeniably a third piece in their puzzle. It's just a sense that they always go together in a sentence, even though they're not a parallel like Natsu-Gray or Lucy-Levy. Even in Edolas, they come as a set piece naturally, as the two reliable saviours that show up in the nick of time. TOH is where Gray's chase for Erza finally reaches her heart. That's where the pinnacle of the Gray-Erza dynamic is reached, and they become a pair of perfect deuteragonists to Natsu and Lucy.

I'm sorry, as usual, I ramble too much and fail to answer the question.

I do think the easiest way to see changes in Erza after TOH is by how she really becomes a little more 'lax' in things. She joins them in messing around--- first seen in Fantasia, when she pulled out the gothloli. What she chose to show the world wasn't armour, which she's most proud of, she easily sheds the shell around her heart and puts on something silly, something she knows the general public will go crazy for, something brazen. And for some money she doesn't really need. It's just mischief, and she continues this trend into her fight with Evergreen, where she doesn't actually punish her for what she did. Even though she had all intentions to go through with consequences back on Galuna with Team Natsu, enough to abandon a crisis so they could learn their lesson about betraying the guild master. Evergreen truly betrayed the guild master, but she gets off with a slap on the wrist, because Erza learned the value of life, of unconditional care for friends, and being betrayed by Jellal didn't dull her ability to have grace for her enemies and forgive them.

Back to the point about Erza being the big sister, protector. She was the Jeanne d'arc of the tower-- the leader of the charge, the one that had to fight so everyone could continue, the one that motivated the battle to the end. Even though she didn't want to fight, she selflessly fought, for everyone's freedom. This continues all the way to TOH, but we most prominently see it in the first few arcs. She hears of a rumour in a bar and leads a team out to fight Eisenwald. She didn't have to, but she did, because she knew someone had to. She threw herself in front of Jupiter knowing it was reckless, and came back to fight Aria, too. She was ready to die when Jose had her. TOH even more so. She always charges ahead, thinking she was the strongest and thus she had to. But in Fantasia, that changes. Here, she willingly back down against Laxus despite knowing she was a much better fight--- she entrusts the role to Natsu instead, because she's learned that she doesn't need to fight the biggest enemies anymore. She knows she can fall back and watch someone else do the job instead. If that isn't growth from the pacifist that was forced to be Jeanne d'arc, I don't know what.

Hi! If by knowing my stuff you mean being extremely pedantic and having strong opinions on lore and contiuity mixing and characterization (especially regarding Optimus) the yeah.

Always love to shout out my faves. Since you didn't specify anything you want, I'll just try to give you a wide range in hopes you like something. But let me know if there's something in particular you're looking for. I haven't been reading TF fic lately, too focused on TGCF fic, so maybe I also need recs, but here are some from the top of my head!

the land of the living series by @megatron-fucks was a vague G1-ish continuity that got soft retconned into being strictly IDW1 that only diverges in how the Cybertronia presence on Earth went. Anyway, the first fic Lesser Evil is about the Matrix forcing a sparkbond between Megatron and Optimus and them dealing with the aftermath of this horrible violation and figuirng what it means for the war. Not usually a fan of sparkbonds, but I really love how it's used here to create conflic and even in its sequel Peace is a Dead Rat, it's not used as a get out of jail card to solve conflict. Ruin's prose is great and she has a way of portraying Megatron that's hard to describe, simultaneously pathetic and irrational but also a force of nature so sure of himself that seems to make perfect sense. And her Optimus!!! I love him so much, she really manages to capture all aspects of him, the good and the. Series also includes a really good Pharma fic.

Read everything by Ruin, really, but I also want to mention a new and dreadful form, which is about the megops eating Primu's spark to adquire the power to defeat Unicron, they bleed, suffer, are transformed and have pnp sex while they're at it. Again, the prose is amazing and the fic hits all of the right spots for me.

The Art of Kneeling (and Stabbing Yourself in the Back) by @soundwavereporting a fic about how IDW1 soundop are tragically suited to enable each other's worse traits. There isn't much stuff out there with them, but this fic makes up for it by sheer quality and Getting It.

Escape Velocity byt trajectory. A fic that explores the IDW1 Combaticons dealing with their shadowplay and Blast Off's betrayal post-canon. Really thoughtful characterization, the sort of very questionable relationships where it's like, this is the best we can expect from this people. Oddly heartwarming and a great way to fill fulfilled after that storyline got cut short.

leave my lips charred by oriflamme. The IDW1!Arcee fic. Ok it's more like IDW1 to the left, but still, it explores Arcee's past and I have added so much of this fic into my personal headcanons. Especially love the portrayal of her relationships with Galvatron, how despite him being... Galavtron, he was there and it contextualizes Arcee's canon complicated mourning.

Keep It Secret, Keep Him Safe by not_whelmed_yet. Backstory Chromedome fic that seeks to answer what was Prowl trying to blackmail him with that. It's satisfactory without completely recontextualizing the CDRW relationship the way the scrapped plot of CD knowing about Dominus and needling Rewind would have. Also featuring Chromedome's previous conjuxes and it makes sure you really feel for them before their deaths.

To anyone stupid enough to actually think the war is over by @polyhexian. Absolutely fascinating interaction between Prowl and Brainstorm. Two guys that hate each other, but have surprisingly many things in common and Chromedome to link them. Also Nate has written a lot so really check out their stuff, especially if you want more CDRW, they've done like, 1/4 of all of it. And omg, their Whirl fics.

Half a Same Mind by @honestlyvan When I say no one gets TFP Bulkjack and Wheeljack like Van, I mean it. Read all of their stuff while you're at it, but the tension and reward of this fic is aaaaaaaaaaaaaggggh. It's so carefully constructed, the soft melancholy, the they both know that they know where they stand but still remain mmmmmm, just read it!

Will you give me yourself? will you come travel with me? by @sroloc--elbisivni. I'm always reccomending this fic as my absolute favorite portrayal of TFP!Orion. Just how Megatron realizes that there is more to him than he previously gave him credit for while you the reader can actually see how this is a person that will one day become Optimus Prime, the soft doomed megop and that end that shows Megatron does get Optimus better than anyone.

A Miracle Opened Wide by neveralarch. Vague G1-ish continuity where Ratchet offers to spot Jazz so he doesn't hurt himself while trying kink. Jazz fails at communication and it's really cute, I love him, his overcompetence backfiring and making him too paranoid. Also I just love everything it does with not-sticky truly robot sex, always good to read. Also, it's hot.

Right now I'm following Rhinestones in lieu of Diamonds by fowo which I'm really loving!! Vague continuity where Megatron having lost his sense of meaning now that the war is over end up in a support groups. Then Optimus shows up and naturally, he can't be chill about it. Optimus tries to be the bigger person ofc but he is also weird about Megatron. Absolutely adore the characterization and there's hardly anything I love more than taking the war away from these two and having them deal with the subsequent crisis.

You should also read Come here, baby, tell me that I'm wrong by me!!! A fic about IDW1 Optimus and Whirl having a... complicated relationship. I think it fucks hard. Also completely canon compliant bc it's me we're talking about. Also also, you can look at my tf bookmarks from my Ao3 and see if there's anything there not mentioned here that interests you (tho I always forget to bookmark alas OTZ)

Thoughts on JamiAzu? And headcanons?

We love them a lot!

If we didn’t have like 1478914 ships, we would’ve drawn and posted these two more often, their dynamic is super enjoyable. I love how desperately into Jamil Azul is and how Jamil wants absolutely nothing to do with him… It is fun, it has a lot of both comedic and smutty potential. They are also quite nice together visually: their colour schemes look pretty, the octopus motif and the snake motif are very cool when used together.

Just in case, I’ll note that it’s Azul/Jamil for us, with Azul always being a top. With that in mind, let’s proceed with the headcanons.

While Azul isn’t 100% delusional when he says that he and Jamil could’ve been an unstoppable power couple, he is like at least 85-90% delusional about his chances. He really believes that Jamil is playing hard to get, and that Jamil also thinks that Azul is a much better pair to him than Kalim. Thus, Azul is going to keep pursuing him and being very stubborn about it. The fact that Jamil really doesn’t want him only makes Azul desire him more.

Azul is very attentive to all the signals and hints Jamil sends his way, even though there are literally no signals other than “I am not interested, please leave me alone”. This signal is surprisingly difficult for Azul to read, mostly because he is in denial about it. If he’s lucky and persistent enough, at some point he’ll make even Jamil question whether he’s serious about not wanting to giving Azul a chance…wait, of course he is serious, wait-!

Azul’s personality is the main turn-off for Jamil. Jamil doesn’t even want to consider the possibility and entertain the idea, but if we’re being totally honest, if Azul wasn’t as much of an… Azul, Jamil would’ve given him a chance. He doesn’t think Azul is completely unattractive, let’s just say that. The fact that Azul is a quite proactive and responsible leader is also something that Jamil would’ve been very drawn to, if Azul wasn’t so freaking annoying.

Azul is absolutely infatuated with Jamil. He is super into him: his looks, his intelligence and his skills. He spends quite a lot of time staring at Jamil, and this is one of those things that leave him with his head in the clouds, which is very unusual for Azul.

In his regular Azul fashion, Azul rationalizes his feelings towards Jamil by thinking that them being together would be a great perk and that they are objectively perfect for each other. He seriously spends time thinking about how good they would’ve looked together, how great of a fit they are for each other, how he is so much better for Jamil than Kalim. Rationally, it makes zero sense, because Jamil being close to Kalim would also be a huge perk, but Azul is yet to find a rationalization to this intense jealousy he’s feeling. Poor Kalim isn’t even aware that they are fighting over Jamil or whatever…

Azul flirts with Jamil during classes pretty much every day. Sometimes it’s pretty subtle, like him saying “right, Jamil-san?” after answering a question, or him picking Jamil as his partner before he gets to say anything. He always smiles at Jamil, chuckles playfully and even winks from time to time. Sometimes he gets pretty shameless though and plays footsie with him (when they’re sitting close to each other, of course), touches Jamil’s fingers, gets uncomfortably close to his face. Even though Jamil always brushes him off, the tension between them is slowly building up.

They are the type of pair that would end up hooking up at least once, with Jamil feeling instant regret right after, not because he didn’t like it or anything, but because the consequences of all this are definitely going to be overwhelmingly horrible, with Azul getting even more clingy, pushy and annoying. Congratulations, Jamil, you’ve just allowed yourself to enjoy intimacy with someone, the only problem is that by doing so you’ve enabled the worst simp in the world to continue pestering you.

I can picture them having sexual encounters from time to time once they’ve crossed that line. Of course, they would frame it as something of a quid pro quo manner, nothing personal, but Jamil is very aware that this is a dangerous game to play with Azul, and that Azul could easily use this against him. Azul is just having fun though, at least for now…

When it comes to sex, Azul is a “give him a finger, and he’ll bite off your entire arm” type of guy, and Jamil knows it. He always swears that he will never allow Azul to do more than they’re used to, but for some reason Azul gets more and more greedy every time, and pushing back gets pretty much impossible. And Jamil hates that he doesn’t mind it as much as he should. Ideally, he shouldn’t be doing all of this with Azul at all…

Ironically, if Jamil was to take some initiative with Azul, Azul’s reaction would’ve been confusion and “Alright now, what do you want from me?”. Azul is 100% ready for it when it’s him who is flirting with Jamil, but not vice versa: even though he wants Jamil super badly, he doesn’t trust him at all.

Headcanon that the only real reason why Mongolia and Russia go out drinking with each other sometimes isn't because they're bffs - it's because they both enable each other's bad habits. 

Usually friends tell other friends to stop if they've had a bit too much but these two don't and that's why they do it - they know they can get away with it when they're with each other + it helps to be with at least one other person while drinking so you don't look like a loser. 

Overall I think Russia and Mongolia have a toxic friendship (If you can call it that) situation going on because I personally think this reflects their history the best. 

There are good sides to their relationship. Russia did help Mongolia maintain its independence from China, Russia did help with industrialising Mongolia and with education etc.

Mongolia depended on Russia to keep its independence, Mongolia helped Russia enormously during World War 2 with the supplies it gave.

But it's important to acknowledge that their relationship isn't  perfect. Mongolia turned to Russia as a last resort to defend itself against China, Russia saw strategic value in Mongolia's existence rather than it being out of pure kindness (though I think Russia for an unknown reason did want to see Mongolia stick around but mainly for the strategic value). The Stalinist purges of the 30's were devastating on Mongolia, Mongolia having to use Cyrillic, cultural suppression, what Russia did to the Kalmyks and Buryats (Mongolic people), annexing Tuva, Lake Baikal etc.

There's also the issue of how Mongolia is dependent on Russia for quite a few things due to being landlocked between Russia and China. Mongolia doesn't really have a choice but to interact with him.

If you really want to go back, of course there were the Mongol invasions and the golden horde but I honestly think that aspect of their history is so overplayed by this fandom and it's usually to demonise the golden horde and Mongolia. The history of Russia and the golden horde/Mongolia during that era is a lot more nuanced than what this fandom makes it out to be. So yeah. Russia, though he still is a little butthurt about it sometimes (not often but probably when he and Mongolia argues), acknowledges the Mongols legacy on his history and to an extent, sees the ordeal as part of what makes him a nation today so he has come to somewhat appreciate it.

I'm saying this without glossing over how it did hurt him but it was so long ago, and again I feel like the fandom overplays this part of history to take away Mongolia's victimhood under Russia in the modern era and to play out age-old stereotypes of the big evil Mongol. Rochu shippers also do this when they portray Mongolia as the archetype of the evil Asian man / Fu Manchu/ evil Mongol archetype (because of the Mongol Empire) and China as the delicate lotus flower who needs a big strong white man (Russia) to come and save him.

I think it's important to see both sides of their relationship because often in the fandom it's either, Mongolia is the one who is demonised based on one part of history which is usually never even studied properly by people in the fandom, or people act like their personal relationship would not have any issues at all despite politics and I find that to be disingenuous. Though this post is brief, I just wanted to summarise why I believe Russia and Mongolia would have a toxic relationship/friendship in the modern day and to convey why I feel discontent with how a lot of the fandom portrays their relationship.

okkk i am sorry this took sooo long to answer but ohohhohohhhoooh yeees yes i do have lot and you dont know how glad i am you asked

the thing with the vanserra brothers is that since so little is known about them anything anyone might think is quite personal and ungrounded in fact and its no different in my case. the way i picture and attempt to portray the five unknown brothers is in a way that i think would fit the so little facts we've got and in a way that i think would make for an interesting and fullfilling narrative within the autumn court and vanserra storyline. i have names, personalities, dynamics, personal allegiances and stances about autumn politics But its all fairly immaginary since there really is nothing to go on.

let's get started then. i'm not going to discuss eris or lucien right now beacause they're...well they're eris and lucien. you know them. I'll post some explainer notes on the drawing later if anyone is interested but the broad strokes are. The second oldest (after Eris) is called Bayard, then the twins Raegan and Enyo, the fifth is Alvar then Taryn and Lucien after that. Also should mention that the name I give to the LoA is Aìne. The is some reason why I chose those names, but nearly not as much as there was when I chose the names for Tamlin's siblings or Thesan's lover's name. Mostly based of the fact that Beron and Lucien are french names, Eris is a greek name and Aìne is an irish name. So Bayard french name, Raegan irish name, Enyo greek name and Taryn irish name as well, Alvar is nothing to do with this m.o. The origins of the name obviously denote where the loyalties lie (except Lucien but he doesnt really count) between the three 'heads of family' Beron, Eris and Aìne.

From what we know, two brothers are dead, one killed by Tamlin and one by Lucien. They are Bayard and Enyo respectively. The reason why I thought it should be them is that it makes more sense to me for the older siblins to have been leading the hunt for Lucien and therefore be the ones to die, Bayard by virtue of being older would have been more powerful so he faced off against Tamlin while Enyo went up against Lucien. I also really enjoy the dead twin trope.

Onto personalities, the little we know is that Under the Mountain Feyre described the four brothers in Amarantha's throne room as being two courties and two warriors. Eris has obviously been established as one of the courtiers, and the other one would be Taryn, the youngest before Lucien. That leaves Raegan and Alvar but I consider Alvar to be a warrior in the sense that I consider Lucien to be a warrior, y'know.

-Bayard: being the second oldest he probably always felt most entitled to fight for the throne. I see him as a violent and angry boy, deeply obssesed with his fathers approval. Not necessaraly intelligent but viciously clever in the way of men who are dangerous and powerful and always have been. Militar through and through, the perfect soldier and a genune threat. Beron's favourite dog.

-Enyo: the more impulsive hotheaded twin. Not as intentionally cruel as Bayard but prone to rage and with a tendency to take things too far. The kind of childhood barbarism boys are expected to grow out of, he grew into. A scary person to be around like most of his brothers but in a particular way. Unstable and predicatbly unpredictable. Something about a temper like a fire that can't be put put.

-Raegan: his brothers enabler. Can be just as bad but only with a crowd to back him up. He's a toff as long as the numbers are on his side, unlike his twin who would fly off the handle the secind he lost his rag. If you get him on his own he can be a sweet boy. After Enyo's death he tries his best to emmulate his brother, who hes made up into an idealized memory in his mind. Means hes acts tougher, meaner, badder than he would have or probably wants to. Grief does strange things to people. He never forgave Lucien.

-Alvar: like his name, he does his own thing. he doesnt want it, any of it, the throne the conflict the hatred. He the kid that covers his ears when the shouting starts at the dinner table. And when Feyre and Lucien were attacked there were only three brothers, because Alvar wasn't there, He usually isnt is he can avoid to be. H doesnt talk back doesnt fight or call any attention to himself. he just does his best to fade unnoticed into the background. We each do what we can to survive

-Taryn: and here is Eris junior. Another pretender to the throne and another true player of the Autumn politic games. Taryn is obssesed with Eris in the way that little brothers sometimes are when their big brothers are cool and do things and seem to have everything under control at all tomes. The problem is in many such cases whenever the big brother ever so slightly slips from his pedestal (as people do, in either a true failure of something perceived as a failure but the little brother) the little borther can feel betrayed and it can lead to resentment and it can lead to hate. And Taryn is a deeply resentful and hateful person. Really all he wants is Eris' attention and to be taken seriously. One day he may understand that attempts on his brothers life are not the way to his heart. Probably.

There is of courseee soooooo much more but this is already fairly long so im leaving it here for now. I'll write some notes on the drawing and post them tomorrow if anyone is interested. And again thats for asking ! i wanna know your headcannons !! Honestly getting messages in my inbox is the only thing that motivates me to draw and actually post, so I welcome it. xx
