Today was the day, the new volume for your favorite manga came out. You were finally going to be caught up. Online there were spoilers everywhere, and you had tried so hard to avoid them. You made your way to the manga section. The bookstore wasn’t super crowded, but the aisle did have a few other people in it.

You were scanning the covers of the books laid out on display. The store would always put the new volumes out on a few tables, that way you weren’t having an issue finding them on the shelves. You scanned and scanned, looking for the blue-green haired boy with his pulled down face mask, the girl playing with his glasses. That’s when you saw it- Tonari no Stella. You reached your hand out to grab it eagerly, surprised to find your hand not grabbing a book but someone else’s who was also reaching for the manga.

Your eyes trailed up the arm to the set of eyes staring at you. His tousled blonde hair with an undercut, his teal colored eyes almost glimmering as he smiled with his mouth open at you. You quickly took your hand off of his, embarrassed. “I’m sorry, I’ll get the one under it. You take that one,” you said nervously. He laughed awkwardly as he picked up the book and handed it out to you. “No, you take it,” he smiled with rose-colored cheeks. His smile was almost too precious to bear. 

“Thank you,” you said quietly as you took it from his hand. He picked up the book that was under it in the stack and stood there for a moment. “Soo, you like Tonari no Stella, too?” he said, tapping his finger on the manga cover. “Uh, yeah I do. You… like it?” you asked confused. It was a typical shoujo manga, not really one you would expect a guy to pick up from the store. Maybe he was picking it up for someone- a sister? A girlfriend? “Yeahh, it’s kinda embarrassing. But shoujo… is my favorite,” he nervously chuckled. 

Your eyes lit up though. Finally, someone you could talk to about shoujo manga. “Really?!” you said excitedly. You paused for a second, trying to make yourself stop and calm down before you scare him away. He was cute and reads the same manga as you. You could be living your own shoujo manga fantasy right now if you played your cards right. “Yeah, I’m kind of a sucker for this kind of stuff,” he said with a beaming grin, his cheeks still dusted with a rose hue. “Do you.. want to go to the cafe after we checkout? We could talk about manga more,” he asked awkwardly, pointing in the direction of the bookstore’s in store cafe.

“I would love that,” you started to say as you both walked towards the front registers. “Oh, I almost forgot. My name is Y/N, what’s yours?” He smiled at you, he was so cute. “My name’s Chifuyu,” he said with a grin.

so, it was just the two of you which you usually didn't mind, but right now you were a bit whiny as it was super late, you were tired, a bit drunk and the single parent for your rowdy captain who was drunkly singing a shanty

"my feet are killing me, Shanks! you better buy me all the ice cream of the Grand Line to make up for this", you were fake-complaining with a loud sigh as the two of you were trotting next to each other

which was when Shanks came to an abrupt halt and starred at you with serious eyes that immediately sent a shock down your spine. did you say something wrong?

"let me carry you then, y-n. piggyback ride to the ship. let's go."

again, his face dead serious, but your brain couldn't catch up, this was absurd

"sir, aren't you missing something essential for this", you blurt out

a concious part of your brain was screaming loudly in panic while the other was deadpanning. did you just assume one of the strongest men in the world wasn't able to carry this little peach called y/n for a few miles?

what felt like an hour was two seconds of silence before Shanks was bursting out in laughter. he was gasping for air and you could prabably hear his laugh on the neighbour islands, too.

"well, i guess then you have to hold on extra tight onto me to make up for this. buckle up"

within the blink of an eye you were pressed against his broad back, your arms wrapped tight around his neck, your face so close to his that you could feel his beard stubble on your cheek, a warmth you never felt before

with your legs clinging onto him you're now looking like a baby koala hanging on for dear life on its mother koala, but this... you could get used to this.

when he puts his arm behind his back to support your bum, you're pretty convinced that this is one of your special dreams and you know how those dreams are always ending

you're blushing hard and of course it doesn't go unnoticed, which makes Shanks chuckle even more. there it was again, this raspy, warm laughter of his.

"hope you enjoy you're ride, miss", he cooed as the two of you continued your walk home

"hope it won't be the last", you teased, catching a glimpse of the future in his dimples, well-knowing.

Rukia's drawings are known to consistently resemble bunnies, Byakuya is known to draw the seaweed ambassador, which other characters are known to have distinctive art styles and what do they look like that make them so distinctive?

I strongly encourage you to obtain a copy of Color Bleach, a publication which is tremendous for any number of reasons, including the fact that it contains the worst recruitment brochure you’ve ever seen, featuring art by many of our assorted regulars. You can also see these drawings on the Bleach wiki, under the entries for the individual squads. I don’t usually mind posting some manga panels to make a particular point, but I didn’t want to wholesale repost a big section of a book, and it’s really worth every penny, but I will give my  impressions of the art that appears there.

I would not have pegged Yamamoto as that dude in your fifth grade class who loves to draw big muscle-y guys, and yet what is it I see here?

Omaeda actually has some decent art skills?? My man even has what approaches some style. Probably part of his noble upbringing included art lessons, and I feel like he was into making his own comics at some point. 

Soi Fon’s art is very stylized, but I kinda dig it. Does she draw things that are not black cats? Doubtful, but there’s something to be said for doing one thing and doing it well. 

Unohana appears to be skilled in the classical sumi-e style, which tracks. 

Momo is a very talented artist, and “drawing” is listed as her special skill elsewhere in the databook. The picture she has here is, um, a very shoujo version of Aizen. I like to think that in addition to drawing at a level where she could conceivably draw her own manga if she had the time and inclination, but I think she’s probably talented in a more realistic style, as well, and probably also does some painting, etc. 

Oh Renji, my Renji. He doesn’t have a lot of skill, but he’s got both style and enthusiasm. I think he’s a decently talented doodler who specializes primarily in Zabimarus. Imagine being a Squad Sixer and getting some paper returned to you with a little Zabimaru at the top screaming “GREAT JOB!!!” I would simply die.

Komamura. Komamura, my beloved. Okay, I can’t help it, this thing just has to be seen to be believed:

(the top one is Komamura’s, the bottom is Iba’s). I mean. He’s a dog. What do you expect? 

Iba, on the other hand has some real style going there. It reminds me a little of, like, WWII nosecone art. I’ve made a lot of jokes about Iba’s mom being into painting (namely big, Georgia O’Keefe style flowers) so she probably made him take art classes as a kid. He’s probably super-embarrassed about how good he is, but I bet the hit rate on his Squad 11 Recruitment Brawl posters was a lot better than Yachiru’s. 

Hisagi is also a pretty good artist?? I’ve said before that I think Hisagi picks up a lot of hobbies and never gets terribly serious about any of them, but since drawing is sort of a foundational skill for a lot of other stuff and he’s had, like a hundred years to get good at it, he’s, well, pretty good. I bet he draws a lot of the ads for the Seireitei Bulletin himself, like the J. Peterman catalog.

The Squad 11 offering is allegedly by Yachiru, but it’s weirdly good. It looks like one of those continuous line drawings that are way harder than they look. 

That’s it for people we actually have evidence for. Here are a couple of additional headcanons:

Ikkaku is a real connoisseur of drawing dicks on things.

Yumichika draws beautifully. He uses this mostly to do fashion-design type stuff, but he also likes to do general designs. He especially likes to incorporate feathers and swirling colors.

Nemu is a highly skilled scientific illustrator. Mayuri is pretty good at drawing diagrams-- he’s very good at conveying ideas thru images, but he tends to hand things over to Nemu if he wants something for publishing and archival purposes. Akon is also a pretty decent hand at drawing. He’s one of those guys who can draw straight lines and perfect circles without tools. Akon also occasionally enjoys doing some creative art. Is “Tool album covers” a genre? Anyway, that’s what he does.

Toushiro likes building things out of ice, and he’s quite good at making detailed construction plans. He’s real into using rulers and French curves and crap like that. These plans are legitimately gorgeous, even though they are basically technical work. Every so often (usually for Momo’s sake), he’ll try to draw a person or a cute animal and it’s real bad and Momo and Rangiku both make fun of him for being a terrible drawer, because they know he isn’t. He puts up with it, as is his way.

Kyouraku likes to draw “sensual” art, which is nearly as bad as his terrible romance novel. Juushirou likes it though, it always makes him giggle.

“Please stop staring at me like that.” (Y/N) groaned uncomfortably from her seat, hesitating before looking at the girls in front of her desk. “It’s making me super uncomfortable.”

(Y/N)’s eyes shifted from the book in front of her to Rio, Kaede, and Fuwa hesitantly. Based on their intent gazes, they were planning something and (Y/N) didn’t want any part in it. She felt like they were almost always up to something, and it normally involved her and Karma.

Their antics and wanting for her and Karma to be together almost made (Y/N) feel as though she were in a shoujo manga. They often teased her in and out of Karma’s earshot, found ways to partner the two up for things. It seemed that all the group of girls had yet to try was something somewhat childish like Seven Minutes in Heaven or the Pocky Game. She wasn’t sure which was worse.

“Aw, come on, (Y/N)! We’re not staring!” Rio laughed, brushing it off and left Fuwa to continue.

“Yeah! We were just wondering if you wanted to spend the break with us!”

(Y/N) looked at the three girls skeptically, her eyes landing themselves on Kaede. It was curious that she hadn’t said anything yet. If anything, it made them even more suspicious.

Despite her better judgement, (Y/N) looked over her shoulder and back at Karma. Though it was probably in vain, she hoped that maybe he’d jump in and help her. The thought alone was enough to make her laugh, though. Karma was far more likely to join in on teasing her as opposed to coming to her rescue.

Unbeknownst to her, Karma would do anything to see (Y/N) blush, and if he was lucky, squirm a bit.

All (Y/N) got from the sadistic boy was a smirk and an eyebrow raise before he went back to his conversation with Nagisa. With a huff, the girl turned forward.

“Hey, (Y/N)?” Kaede finally speaks up. “Karma likes strawberry stuff, right?”

(Y/N) raised an eyebrow in obvious confusion. Her eyes moved went over the girls in front of her once again. “Yeah, why?”

Before she could even question the following silence, a box of strawberry Pocky was pushed into her hands and she was being shoved towards the boy in question.

“Hey, Karma! (Y/N) has a game for you two to play!” Rio announces to him as she and the other two girls make their way over to the pair.

“Oh yeah? And what game might that be, (Y/N)?” Karma had already seen the pink box in (Y/N)’s hands and was more than aware of what the girls were trying to do.

“I– I don't know what they're talking about!” The girl stammered, purposefully avoiding Karma’s eyes as she turned to glare at the girls she knew were behind her.

Karma faked a thoughtful hum. “You sure, (Y/N)? What’s with the box of Pocky?”

“Yeah, (Y/N)! Weren’t you saying that you wanted to play a game with him?” Rio cut in, giving you no way to escape.

“Come on, (Y/N),” Karma teases. “Play with me.” The smug smirk on his face ran deep, and at that point, (Y/N) had a fair amount of attention on her and she couldn’t find a way in her mind to see it as anything but a challenge.

With that thought, (Y/N) bravely sat herself in front of him on his desk as she broke open the box and the white bag inside. Karma stood from his chair to become more even with the girl in front of her, a curious glint in his eyes despite the smirk not leaving his lips.

(Y/N) pulled out the pink coated breadstick and held it up between the two of them. “Despite the situation that I’m suddenly in, I’m feeling generous. Which end do you want; cream or bread?” She could feel herself heating up, but she wasn’t about to act like it bothered her. She had a constant shadow of death around herself and her classmates at all time, possibly kissing the boy she had a crush on was the least of her worries.

“Either is fine.” Karma shrugged before watching the girl sitting on his desk gently bite on the cream covered end, waiting for him to bite at the other. As soon as his teeth dug into the bread, Karma gave (Y/N) a look, telling her to go. If he were being honest with either of them, he would have admitted that he was looking forward to the end result of this, however, in his mind, he had to make it seem as though he didn’t care.

Every small bite the two gave was met with some level of anticipation. With every bite, the two got closer, time seemed to move slower and the sound of Koro-Sensei writing in his notebook faded. The two eventually became a centimeter away from each other, and the two looked like they were challenging each other.

It was (Y/N)’s turn to bite, and with a bashful smile, she closed the gap.

A collective gasp swept across the classroom, but neither of them payed it any mind. (Y/N) and Karma were too wrapped up in each other to pay attention anyone or anything around them.

Eromanga-sensei -- Overrated -- 12 year old girl who has no cencept of social norms draws porn for her step-brother's shitty novels (also they're in love or something?). Cannot overstate how cringe this is.

Escaflowne -- SUPER RECOMMENDED -- Complete story, very satisfying, incredible worldbuilding. Girl with psychic powers gets beamed up to a second earth full of dragons and animal people and knights and princesses etc. And has to somehow stop an evil fascist regime from destroying the world. Also, there's mechas!

Escaflowne the movie -- Trash -- They butchered the character designs and story completely.

Excel Saga -- WTF -- Honestly what the fuck.

Mahoutsukai no Yome season 1 -- Recommended -- A lovely take on celtic mythology set in rural england where a special girl is rescued and taught how to manage her powers.

Maquia -- SUPER RECOMMENDED -- Bring kleenex x10000. The end had me uglycrying for my mom. A girl from a longlived race separated from the rest of the world is thrust into it and decides to care for a baby she finds. He grows up but she never ages a day. War breaks out and things get bad.

She meets a guy through the game and I guess they fall in love or something? The anime kind of leaves off where they properly meet irl, but the progression is really good.

Ore Monogatari -- SUPER RECOMMENDED -- Stupendous incredible groundbreaking sexy impressive. Huge scary dude who is actually a sweet smoosh falls in love with a tiny little cinnamon roll who isn't nearly as weak as she looks. So good, so pure.

Origin, spirits of the past -- Recommended -- Plants grown on the moon attack earth and destroy it! Sounds crazy but it's really cool fantasy.

Oshiete Galko-chan -- Recommended -- Curvy plus-size gyaru girl has an answer to everything from sexual health to food to first aid, hairdos, cooking, etc

Ouran High School Hostclub -- Recommended -- Silly and fun but the ending is meh. Brokeass girl gets gum in her hair and hacks it off before joining a school for the richest elite on scholarship. She dresses like a dude and gets mistaken for a dude, and after breaking something insanely expensive, is conscripted into the host club to pay it off. Everyone in the hostclub is disgustingly rich and out of touch with reality in the most outlandish ways.

Everything goes tits up when they attempt to escape, but one kid makes it out and joins the human resistance to destroy all vampires.

Wolf's Rain -- Recommended -- Complete story, pretty satisfying, pretty sad tho. Wolves know where the end of the world will be and how to find paradise beyond. A girl born of a flower is their guide, but obviously the rest of humanity wants a piece of it as well.

hey everybody im gonna ramble about art styles for a bit b/c everyone's asleep <3 LOL

PREFACE: THIS IS LITERALLY JUST MY OWN PERSONAL PREFERENCES AND OPINIONS!! i dont want to sound like i think im an authority on this stuff at all so dont take it as such. im just stream-of-consciousness rambling here

anyway on to the ramble

so occasionally i like to drown myself in nostalgia by going on deviantart and browsing old ms paint art of people's fursonas and such. tonight i was doing that and it got me thinkin about art styles and how theyve changed over the years! like, back during the time im talking about (like early 2000s-very early 2010s), the anime style was very popular at least in the furry deviantart community i was a part of. although i think that extends to human art as well, which i'll get into in a moment. but ya like, ive noticed that ppl would draw their furries all anime-y with big eyes and swirls in their very spiky fur...fur was a lot more detailed as well! there was a distinct style goin on. and over time it's kinda shifted into a less anime and more western cartoony style it feels like? sure theres still anime influences but its not Blatantly Anime anymore if that makes sense. its more squishy and cutesy i guess. of course this is just a lot of what i see, theres exceptions too here and there. as for human art the early 2000s/2010s anime art styles were just. so choice. i miss them so much actually

to get into general art styles tho, i was looking at style evolution charts for anime from the 80s to the 2020s and it was rly interesting to see!! id like to say my fav eras of style were the 90s-00s specifically, and honestly my opinion carries over to western cartoons as well. now here's where im gonna get Conch Reversal i think. bc im one of those people who--god i hate that i probably sound pretentious for this--prefers the Older art styles to the modern ones? if you follow me u know im a big fan of stephen silver's art, particularly from the danny phantom era. i love the early art styles that were goofy and cartoony and bouncy but had sharpness to them, like they were pretty angular? and nowadays it seems like everyone's into that spongey soft round style (not to bring up steven universe but like. steven universe-esque) which is appealing in its own way but not in the way that i personally would choose yknow? thats why im rly into danny phantom and stuff like that i guess

ive been told that art styles like that are outdated and maybe they are! but i find such a particular enjoyment in looking at them u_u its really hard for me to give them up. the 90s shoujo anime styles, the 00s angular cartoon styles...idk. they appeal much more to me than modern anime and toony styles :( and that probably makes me sound like an old pretentious fart but whatever LOL thats my onion and you are free to disagree i dont rly care

but ya like. idk. as an autistic person, art has always been both my biggest special interest AND hyperfixation, so i feel super strongly abt stuff like this and it makes me happy to share my feelings so !!! there u go <3 sorry this is extremely long lol

Fall 2020 Anime Overview

I started out watching the a ton of anime for the Fall 2020 season, but then ended up not being caught up with most of them by the the time the end rolled around. I still pretty much intend to catch up with Yashahime Princess Half Demon someday (I do like the three leads, it just the plot’s been dull as dirt and the fights aren’t very inspired either) and though I dropped Wandering Witch after bad press started rolling in (I CANNOT deal with pointless tragedy in my current state of mind) I might check out a few more episodes someday just to from my own opinion. For now, let’s just quickly review the anime I DID manage to finish on time this season.

Sleepy Princess in the Demon Castle

Sleepy Princess in the Demon Castle is exactly what it says on the tin: Princess Syalis isn’t too bothered about being captured by demons and locked in their castle, but she does value a good night’s sleep, and she is absolutely ruthless when it comes to getting it- so ruthless, in fact, that the demons realized it might not be that she’s trapped in here with them, but that they’re trapped in here with her.

Sleepy Princess is top tier comedy comfort food. It rarely got a huge belly laugh, but it always but a smile on my face and was a great thing to watch before going to bed. Syalis’s single-minded search for some shut eye is a joke that could have gotten old very quickly, but the show consistently found creative ways to expand on the gags and build it’s world and a fun cast of characters along the way. 

Though Syalis is downright brutal to the demons when it comes to getting what she wants (and has a knack for getting herself killed at well), thanks to a demon cleric that offers easy resurrections, you never feel too bad for anyone involved. In fact, the demons and Syalis form a strangely heartwarming bond over the course of the show , and it’s clear by the end that Syalis definitely has the ability to come and go if she damn well pleases and just finds this castle a fun place where she can find respite from her princessly responsibilities. 

A nice bonus for those of us who like a little subversion is that the show has a lot of fun playing with standard adventure tropes- the demons often lament that Syalis is not at all what they expected from a captive princess, for one, but my favorite fun little twist is how Syalis feels about the hero currently on a (seemingly endless) quest to rescue her- she manages to both hold him in contempt AND consistently fail to remember his name. That level of disregard takes some impressive effort.

The show has the same director as the Gekkan Shoujo Nozaki-kun anime and as such has a similarly nice comic and visual flourishes throughout. It definitely gets two sleepy thumbs up for me.

Jujutsu Kaisen

Jujutsu Kaisen follows a young man named Yuuji Itadori who, after tangling with a demon, ends up with one inside him. With a death sentence hanging over his head, he’s inducted into a school for “jujutsu sorcerers”, and begins training to use his newfound powers to defeat demons and curses.

Jujutsu Kaisen quickly tells you on no uncertain terms it is Action Shonen, introducing a huge cast of a characters and powers and super high stakes and hey there’s even gonna be a tournament arc soon. It is really, really pretty to look at, with a killer opening and ending, some seriously great animation and cool visuals for the fights especially. But is it particularly memorable otherwise? Noooooot really, so far. The sea of technobabble it tends to descend into when trying to explain how the various powers work often has me zoning out and wishing they’d just let me watch the pretty punches. The villains and the general plot isn’t particularly compelling. The characters are nice enough, but haven’t given me much to be attached to so far. Though I do appreciate this one dude who is the embodiment of millennial ennui:

I’ll keep watching though, because it is a visually stunning, action-y thing to my turn your brain off to and god knows I want to turn my brain off all the time lately. 

And the characters do have potential- the One Girl of the main group, Nobara, has a really fun personality in that she’s a total shitlord doofus brawler who can thus doof around with our equally dumbass protagonist, which is an pretty fun, unusual personality for the One Girl to have! Her interactions with Maki, the weapons expert senpai girl, are promising too. I’m just waiting for her to actually, you know, DO something that really shows off her skills- I’m told she DOES eventually get to (gasp) win fights on her own and do cool stuff, but so far show has kind at that of failed miserably and underused her like most action shonen underuse their girls. Plus, taking Yuuji out of the group for such a long stretch seems like a weird choice, we’ve been deprived really seeing him for relationships with his peers. The pacing seems off. But maybe the upcoming tournament arc will make up for that and actually be worthwhile!

Talentless Nana

In a world where kids with superpowers are sent to island schools to fight mysterious “enemies of humanity”, one class of such kids is thrown into chaos when they find themselves targeted by a deadly force.

It’s pretty much impossible to talk about Talentless Nana without discussing how it deviates dramatically from what its premise appears to be in episode one, so I’ll just say if you like stories with superpowers and intrigue, you should definitely sit through that first episode and see if the plot that’s eventually revealed is something that you’re here for. But if you want to avoid spoilers, DON’T GO BELOW THE CUT, because I’m about to get very spoilery.

Basically, Talentless Nana pulls a bait and switch, starting it’s first episode posing as generic superhero anime where the protagonist appears to be your standard meek-but-powerful anime boy (Nanao) who just needs some support and encouragement from a pink haired mind reading manic pixie dream girl (Nana) to unlock his self-confidence and ~true power~ (ugh)...only to take SHARP swerve when  Nana ruthlessly murders Nanao and reveals she’s been sent by the government to take out the superpowered kids one by one because THEY are the considered the true enemies of humanity. Oh, and she doesn’t have any superpowers, or “talents”- she was just able to sus out everything Nanao was thinking through basic deductive reasoning because he was so flippin’ obvious and basic.

As my love for a certain character in a certain game may have clued people into, I am ALWAYS delighted when what appears to be a generic, underwritten girlfriend character is then revealed to be an interesting, ruthless mastermind. And having an anime appear to be about a bland boy with a Dream Girlfriend but then actually turn into a show about a deeply cynical, morally dubious girl who’s clearly holding down a lot of messy feelings as she considers everyone her enemy...well, it may be a cheap trick to some, but it also feels a little bit like justice for all the underwritten female characters sacrificed to bland male leads. It’s still rare enough that I dig it when it happens. And the metatext of Nana zeroing in on this kid as the most standard of main character boys, assessing him as the biggest threat because of it and knowing the perfect way to take him out, is pretty inherently funny to me.

But if the show JUST banked on that twist and was about Nana brutally and cynically slaughtering these kids, it would get boring quickly and Nana would be a bland character herself. Fortunately, it doesn’t go that route. Nana struggles and grows a lot over the course of the show. She finds opposition in transfer student Kyoya, a stoic (and socially awkward) young man who pretty quickly becomes suspicious of her. A lot of the tension from the early episodes comes from her sweating as she tries to outmaneuver him and she makes plenty of mistakes along the way. She also slowly but surely starts to question her mission, and we get an idea of her backstory and how the government specifically has groomed her into believing people with powers to be evil. That belief is one that’s challenged by her friendship with another girl, and it’s pretty rewarding to watch Nana’s feelings and world expand little by little.

The show is definitely a little schlocky-some of the plots (as well as the general premise of the government thinking this is the optimal way to get rid of their superpowered kids problem) fall apart if you think too much about them, and some of the kids Nana goes up against are sleazy and unlikeable in over the top ways (which makes it easy for her to stick to her convictions all these kids deserve to die at first). In particular, I have to give a heads up for some sleazy guys doing and saying sleazy things, though the show never gets too overbearing or graphic with it (and the gore is generally PG-13 level as well). 

Basically. There are some truly ridiculous happenings in this show. But how ridiculous and pulpy and over the top it is can be part of the appeal, and it’s fun to just sit back and watch the spectacle of Nana and her peers head-scratching machinations. 

So, while certainly not an anime with airtight construction or flawless quality and depth, I found Nana an overall entertaining watch, especially as a fan of cat-and-mouse murder-y shenanigans, and thought it has a very compelling main character and managed to end on a heartwrenching (but earned) note. I definitely wouldn’t say no to a second season and would be interested to see where things go from here.

“GAHHH! i’m so excited” mina squealed as she shook you back and forth, it was no regular night in the 1a dorm, tonight was a special night. it was movie night.

every friday, class 1a watches a movie together, it all started because iida said that your class needed more “bonding” time, whatever that means. in all honesty you weren’t really sure but you went along with it anyway because it was too much work to even try disagreeing with him.

the person who got to choose the movie rotated every week so everyone had a chance to pick the movie (everyone but mineta, that privilege was taken from him because of an instance that you really don’t feel like looking back on). the decision was made by putting everyone's names on paper slips and picking one from a hat, the name was picked thursday night at dinner so the person had a whole 24 hours to decide on a movie title.

tonight was mina’s turn to choose the movie and she had picked out the cheetah girls: one world and because it was the third in the series she had to give the class a short presentation to catch everyone up to speed.

the scene was quite comical, it had you holding onto kirishima’s shoulder attempting to hold in your laugh while todoroki and tokoyami asked in depth and thought provoking questions about the cheetah girls. your favorite coming from todoroki along the lines of “so at no point, do the girls actually become cheetahs?” he was quite disappointed to hear that they do not infact turn into cheetahs at any point in the movie.

when mina’s choice was announced, bakugou immediately attempted to get out of watching the movie but you and kirishima were able to convince him to stay. you were able to do this by threatening to tell everyone about his hidden shoujo manga collection while kirishima said that he wouldn’t stop you.

so here you were, with kirishima to your left, mina bouncing up and down in anticipation to your right, and bakugou slouching on the floor against the couch in front where you were sat stuck with denki and sero on either side of him. when bakugou began grumbling under his breath about how “stupid” this whole thing was, you made sure to lean down and remind him of the blackmail you held against him. did it seem like you were holding him hostage? maybe. did you care? not one bit. mina was having a good time and that was all you cared about.

you and mina grew up together and even attended the same middle school. the two of you were honestly inseparable, spending every waking moment together. the perks of living next to each other it seemed. while mina was definitely your favorite person from middle school, kirishima was a close second. the two of you had initially met when you were tasked with a project together in one of your subjects. you ended up really enjoying his company and making sure to hang out with him almost as much as you did with mina.

up until the very end of middle school you only saw him as a friend, but then one day butterflies began to erupt in your stomach everytime he was nearby. not even just when he was nearby, sometimes you would just be sitting in your room and his bright ruby eyes would flash in your memory and you would feel a blush develop on your cheeks.

you had no idea that he even wanted to apply to u.a. until the two of you had run into each other at the entrance exam. you had known that he wanted to be a hero of course, he made you sit and watch the old videos of crimson riot with him. it was obvious to yourself that he was hero material, from his impressive quirk to his golden spirit, he was just made to save and inspire people. one of the many reasons that you adored him. even with all of that you were still shocked but excited to see your friend going after his dreams of being a hero and he was thrilled to see you there too.

obviously the exams went well because here the two of you were, with the rest of your class, ready to watch the cheetah girls at one of the most prestigious hero high schools in japan. the thought made you giggle as you looked around the room, everyone getting comfortable before the movie started.

“hey, what’s so funny?” kirishima whispered into your ear, his warm breath making you squirm a bit from how close in proximity he was.

“oh it’s nothing” you whispered back glancing up and to the side at him. feeling him lean back on the couch, you turn to get a better look at him, the butterflies you had grown accustomed to visiting your stomach once again. kiri had his hair up in one of the headbands that you just adored, his hair looks so fluffy and soft. all you wanted to do was run your hands through it. sure, he probably used a decent amount of gel to make it stick up but it still looked silky.

before you could stare for too long, mina announced that the movie was starting, squishing into her spot right next to you before leaning her head on your shoulder causing you to let out a light laugh.

45 minutes into the movie you felt something fall into your lap. glancing down you saw kiri’s kind eyes staring up at you.

a breathy giggle left your lips “hello there.”

“shhh” kiri mumbled, turning over to face the screen “pretend i’m not here.” before he fully moved away you caught a glimpse of a faint blush spreading across his face and the tips of his ears.

you wanted to focus on the movie, you really did, but with kiri layed on your lap you just couldn’t. it physically wasn’t possible for you to look away from him. you desperately wanted to lean down and give his forehead a soft kiss while holding him close.

the obvious was there as well, kiri’s hair was inches away from your fingers and you could just imagine just running them through it. the temptation was immense. of course he was used to your antics at this point so he wouldn’t mind but for some reason you were too nervous to ask.

breaking you out of your trance you felt kiri look up at you with a puzzled expression, “y/n, is there something on my face?”

still in a bit of a dazed, you hummed in confusion, blush creeping its way onto your face.

“you just keep staring at me…”

choking on seemingly nothing, the blush that had originally begun to stir from getting caught staring increased at a rapid pace, you could feel the heat of it. “fuck, i’m sorry, i didn’t realize i was being so obvious.” you sputtered looking away. “there’s nothing on your face, i promise.”

he chuckled at your reaction and asked another question, still not sure what was up with his friend. “then why the staring?”

taking a deep breath you felt there was no better time than the present, you lowered your voice and admitted “… honestly? i just really want to play with your hair.”

letting out a joyful laugh kiri beamed up at you grabbing your chin, your head still facing away to hide your flushed expression, he gently turned your face towards him so he could meet your eyes and whispered with a smile. “y/n of course you can play with my hair.”

with his hand still cupping your face you flashed him a smile and reached your hands down to run them through his red hair, it feeling smooth to the touch. you heard him release a deep sigh dropping his hand from your face as you continued to comb your fingers through it. you could feel the teen relax under your touch as you moved your gaze back to the movie.

by the time the movie had ended, kirishima looked to be fast asleep on your lap. before the lights could get turned on you, feeling quite daring, glanced around at your peers, and then pressed a light kiss to his forehead then whispered “you’re just too adorable kiri, and i promise i mean it in the manly way.”

your movements to shift away were halted when his eyes suddenly shot open and he gently grabbed your face to bring it down to his level, he muttered with a lopsided grin, “honestly y/n, i think you’re way cuter” before placing a small kiss to the corner of your mouth.

you had no idea he was awake when you leaned down to kiss him, the surprise of that paired with the fact that he kissed the corner of your mouth had you malfunctioning where you sat. a thousand thoughts rushing through your frazzled mind. your hands shot up to cover your burning face as you frantically moved his head from your lap and ran up to your dorm, managing to completely trample bakugou and confuse the rest of your classmates on your way out of the common room.

“WHAT THE HELL” bakugou shouted at your running figure, “WATCH WHERE YOU’RE GOIN’ YOU DAMN EXTRA!”

as he got up to chase after you, kirishima placed a hand on his shoulder stopping him, chuckling “don’t worry bakubro! i’ll go talk to her.” he waved goodnight to the rest of his classmates before heading up to your room.

gently knocking he sighed then called out “y/nnnn, i’m super sorry if i made you uncomfortable. that’s super not manly and-”

the moment you heard him start to apologize for no apparent reason you ran to throw your door open. “don’t you dare apologize eijiro” you scolded looking up at the now nervous teen boy, seemingly forgetting that he was the reason you had run off in the first place, “you have nothing to apologize for. i was just a little spooked and a tiny bit flustered…” lowering your voice to make sure that last part was whispered.  

“is that why you ran off?” he asked in a gentle tone, concern lacing his features.

“i mean i guess, you just caught me off guard. i’m sorry if i scared you or something…” you apologized looking down at your feet.

“hey now… you can’t just apologize after lecturing me about it. it’s not fair.” a small pout forming on his lips. one thing kiri knew was that as long as the two of you have been friends, he can always get his way when he begins to pout. he’s not sure why it always works on you, but it does.

“oh stop, don’t start with the puppy face. i know it always works but i don’t like how it affects me.” a small smile developing on your face as he continues to pout at you, leaning down a little to make sure you see it. the pout, his biggest weapon against you, it always makes you melt.

a tension filled silence falls upon the two of you as you stand in the hallway, your eyes locked as he continues to pout down at you.

“now what i don’t understand” you begin, “is what you think to gain from continuing to look at me that way.”

“well… i just hope you know that i don’t plan on tonight being the last night of you playing with my hair” a playful tone laces his voice as he moves down even closer to you.

that action made you even more flustered than you were before, causing you to avert your eyes. “and what do you mean by that?” the question coming out more nervous than you intended it too. you had hoped that he would give you an answer to this question but by the time you had looked back at him he was right in front of your face, his warm breath fanning across your face as you held eye contact with him.

he glanced down at your lips before asking in a trance like tone “y/n, can i kiss you?”

the moment felt like it was from one of your dreams, afraid that you wouldn’t be able to form a sentence you nodded fully showing that you absolutely wanted him to kiss you.

he gently cupped your face and leaned in. the warm sensation of his lips met yours as you reached up to wrap your arms around his neck, tilting your head to deepen the kiss. his warm lips tasted of buttery popcorn and the cinnamon candies he was devouring earlier, and as you kissed the scent of his cologne, mahogany teakwood, filled your senses. attempting to hold you closer, his hands moved from cupping your jaw and slowly crept their way down to sit on the curve of your hips. your lips danced in sync for a minute or two. those few minutes truly making you feel like you were on cloud nine.

as you moved away to catch your breath you looked up to see kiri, a grin plastering his face that stretched from ear to ear. you dropped your sight and pushed your head into his chest to hide from his view, a red tint gracing your features.

“sooo y/n…” the red-head began, moving on hand from your waist up to cup your chin, his warm touch bringing you immense comfort “is that a yes to playing with my hair again?”

all the first years standing in neat, organized rows, listening to the principal give a welcoming speech

at least, that’s what you were supposed to be doing

“oh? test me,” you grin, scooting closer to him

if tsukki could major in ignoring you people, he’d have straight A’s

you try not to let the amusement show on your face, but you can’t help it

glaring at you, he pulls his headphones off his head and puts them on yours

“mm~” you chuckle

a couple hours later, you pull into the parking lot of nekoma

the friend groups pair off, and kuroo makes a beeline for tsukki, only to catch sight of you

“hey four-eyes— who’s this?”

tsukki glances down at you, to which you shoot him a sugary smile

“dunno,” he says, and walks off

you wave to kuroo with a sunny grin

“i’m y/n~! i’m tsukki’s personal assistant and future wife~”

his eyebrows rise, and with a quick bow, you bounce after the blonde

once the group is all in the gym, practice jerseys are handed out and you help yachi and shimizu prepare the water and towels

you’re about to make a beeline for tsukki, when someone calling your name stops you

“y/n! wanna get me some water?” kuroo calls

you only blink for a moment before hopping to it, darting across the gym

for the rest of the day, kuroo is constantly calling for you—

“y/n! can you wipe the sweat off my neck?”

“hey, y/n, get me some water~”

“y/n!”

“y/n, over here!”

and by the time the several hours is over, you haven’t gotten to speak to tsukki once 🥺 snnff :(

when you finally get a free moment, you look around for him, but he’s nowhere to be found

sad face :(

and then !!!! turns out nekoma paid for bbq for everyone 🤩🤩 cats are so generous

and somehow??? you find yourself surrounded by nekoma players???

“here y/n, want some of my bbq?”

“no, take mine!!!”

“do you want any fruit?? i have some!!”

“you were so helpful today!! how’d you stay so energetic the whole time??”

you flash a smile, ready to charm the shit out of them, when a voice interrupts:

"hey, personal assistant.”

your eyes light up, bc you’d recognize that salty ass voice anywhere!!!

the guys around you part to reveal—

“tsukki!!!” you squeal, maybe a little too excitedly

“aren’t you supposed to be assisting me?? get me some food.”

you shove your plate into the free hand of one of the nekoma players (his name was... liam? lief... lev?) and dart to get tsukki something to eat

when you hand it to him, you flash him your most dazzling smile

“eat up! you worked hard today~”

he eyes you silently before digging in, and you smile absentmindedly while watching him

“why are you staring at me like that?”

“because i like you,” you respond without hesitation

he averts his eyes, but doesn’t say anything mean 

your stomach flips a little 

i’m coming for you, tsukishima kei.

on the ride home, you’re once again sitting next to him, and he gives up his headphones without a fight this time

you’re so tired from running around helping kuroo all day that you find your eyelids getting heavy as tsukki’s music plays in your ears

you try to subtly lean on his shoulder but he pokes you away 

you glare at him, pouting, but settle for leaning against the headrest

and then, you’re drifting off

..

and you’re having a strange dream

a pleasant dream, with fuzzy corners and honey-colored light streaming across the scene, but still strange

in this dream, he’s kissing you

it’s not like you haven’t had dreams like this before, it’s just that this one feels so much more vivid

and yet blurry at the same time

“y/n—” he tries to cut in, but you bulldoze right over him

an unannounced locker-search discovered several exam cheatsheets almost exactly like the one tsukki found in the locker of a student, and the school realized their mistake <3 how nice of them

and that meant you were free to return to school, name cleared!!!

the volleyball club was eagerly awaiting your return

so when they saw tsukki arrive for practice, they expected you’d be following right along behind him

“Alright! That should be the last of ‘em!” You wiped sweat from your brow after placing down the last of your boxes. “I think we deserve a break, can I get you something to drink? Water? Tea? I bought some Caplico yesterday at the dollar store.”

“Tea sounds great, thanks y/n,” Ichiro grinned from the couch, pushing some of his bangs up out of his face. You told yourself not to stare from over the counter. 

After pouring two cups of cold tea, you walked back to the living room and handed Ichiro a glass before sitting on the opposite side of the sofa. The two of you sat in an awkward silence as you sipped your drinks, avoiding each other's eyes. 

“So uh,” Ichiro cleared his throat, “Do you want to start unpacking some of your boxes? Or would you want to go out and grab some lunch and walk around for a bit?”

You choked a bit on your drink, swallowing hard before placing the cup in your lap. “Sorry,” you chuckled embarrassedly, “But yea, I’m starving! I don’t know much around here though… I guess that’s why I have an expert here with me, huh?” You gave Ichiro a smile. 

“That is what I’m here for I guess,” he laughed along with you, a hint of pink clouding at the top of his ears, Ichiro prayed that you didn’t notice. You did. 

“Alrighty then! I just need to go grab a sweatshirt out of one of my boxes of clothes…. I’ll be right back! Don’t go anywhere!” You decided to shove the image of Ichiro’s blushing ears out of your mind. It was probably only because the two of you had been sweating by moving boxes around all day… yeah.

You close the door to your bedroom and pressed your back against it, smacking your blushing cheeks with your palms. Pull it together! God, what was this? A shoujo manga? No, this was real life, not some Otome game… Ugh, curse Ramuda for setting this all up!  You sighed and walked over to one of the boxes on the bed and fished out a random sweatshirt from the bottom. Without looking, you pulled it on over your head and hurried out of the bedroom. 

“Ok! Ready to go!” You chirped enthusiastically, grabbing your bag from behind the couch, freezing when you looked over and saw Ichiro grinning. “U-Uh… is there something on my face?”

“No, no, I was just admiring your Godzilla sweatshirt. You didn’t strike me as a fan, that’s all.”

“What? I work in video games, you didn’t expect me to be into giant fighting monsters? Gimme a break!” You teased, hoping that your confident attitude would hide your blushing face. 

“Well, I guess that’s true,” Ichiro pondered, “Are you a serious fan or just here for the aesthetic?”

“Bold of you to assume I would be simply swayed by pure aesthetics. I may work in design but I happen to be full of surprises. One of those happens to be my love for giant sea-lizards….” Might as well shoot out an embarrassing fact since you already exposed yourself with your clothing choice. “I have every movie on DVD, limited editions too…”

“I see you’re a woman of culture as well,” He chuckled, “You’ll have to show me your archives sometime, I’m impressed!”

You had to concentrate hard not to blush. “Sure! Not today though, I gotta make sure you wanna come back and see me.” 

“Hmm, I’m surprised you thought that would be an issue. I wasn’t planning on helping you move in and then leave you in the dust, no need to worry. We could have a marathon sometime!” Ichiro paused, “Ah, maybe that was a little forward… I’m just excited to have someone besides my brothers that’s interested in the same things.”

“No you’re fine! That sounds like a great plan! Uhm, but for now I’m hungry. I think I could eat an entire barbeque!” 

“Well, lucky for you I know a great spot for that!” He shot up from the couch, “It’s not that far from here, actually. I think it’s a five minute walk?” Ichiro pulled out his phone to check.

You peeked around his shoulder as he showed his phone to you, “Damn, not bad at all!”

The conversation between you and Ichiro didn’t lag as the two of you had lunch together. From the walk to the restaurant and throughout your meal, there wasn’t a dull moment. You and Ichiro seemed to have a lot in common. While he was a bit timid to admit it at first, he never really was a super social person. He used to be involved in some pretty bad stuff as a kid, so he never really had a normal, friend-filled childhood. The only two people he had as a constant were his two younger brothers and his teammates, Jiro and Saburo. Ichiro didn’t elaborate on it much, but he briefly mentioned his start in rapping and his road to where he was now. In turn, you shared your story. It was nowhere near as impressive or elaborate as the other’s, but you shared nonetheless. The two of you discussed favorite niches, anime, and games to which you shared similar tastes. You asked about his music and he asked about your designs. It was nice to just… talk to someone about what you liked and have them be interested. Ichiro also talked a lot about his brothers, proudly showing you photos of them and laughing while sharing stories. You didn’t have any siblings of your own, so it was nice to see what that life was like. By the time lunch was finished, the two of you had stayed in the restaurant till their four-o-clock closing time. Neither of you realised. You were too busy laughing to tears and enjoying yourself. You couldn’t remember the last time you felt so… happy to talk to someone. Sure you always had Ramuda to lean on and chill with, his teammates too, but there was some sort of barrier there between them. With Ichiro… that barrier didn’t seem to exist. You pondered on that realisation as the two of you walked back to your apartment. Maybe it was the similar interests? The closeness in age? No, it couldn’t be the age, Ramuda and his posse weren’t too much older. Whatever it was, the two of you just… clicked. 

The two of you continued talking as you entered the elevator up to your third story apartment. You so badly wanted to reach over and push all the buttons so you could spend more time talking with him. It was getting to be well into the evening and you knew he had a family to get back to. You stopped in front of your apartment door and turned to him. 

“Thanks for all your help today, Ichiro-sa– Ichiro. I really appreciate it,” You said with a smile and a slight bow. “I would invite you in for dinner but…. I haven’t gotten any actual groceries and your brothers are probably waiting at home for you. Some other time maybe?”

“That would be awesome! Maybe we could uh watch some of your Godzilla collection too?” He smiled bashfully. 

You nodded enthusiastically. “That sounds like a perfect plan!” Your heart was pounding in your chest. 

Ichiro’s phone rang and he sighed, “That’s my queue to get home,” he sent the call to voicemail and returned it to his pocket. “It was great getting to know you today, text me and we can plan something soon,”  He waved with a grin as he turned on his heel and walked down the hall. 

After he was out of sight, you let yourself into the apartment and slid down against the door. You placed your head in your hands and screamed softly. This was bad, you couldn’t be falling for someone so easily. 

Ramuda totally knew that this would happen. That bastard. He was setting you up! He always liked to try playing Cupid with you. Ohhh you were going to kill that little pink man.

a/n: this took so long to write! i’m getting over another bad case of writers block and i’m not sure if this was something you were looking for, def not my best work. i’m really sorry it took a while to get it posted, so enjoy!

you believed it was the way you had never thought of becoming friends with someone as juvenile as terushima yuuji that was the cause of your daily migraines. to his constant thunderous childlike behavior or how he would flirt with literally anyone if he was bored enough. terushima liked to think you and him were close—best friends even, but with the amount of times he had hit every nerve by flirting with you and teasing, you thought the complete opposite.

the two of you had gotten into a little argument again earlier this morning.

it was callow and stupidly unnecessary, anyone who knew of your usually quiet and aloof personality knew you wouldn’t even spare energy getting into one with terushima. you didn’t even want to think about it as granted, it was about his usual antics of flirting with a random first year the moment you two walked onto johzenji high. it was so unlike you to care so much about him flirting with someone other than yourself. perhaps it was the way a foreign feeling of raving moths that ravaged your gut when you watched him ask for that girl’s number like it was nothing. 

it’s not like he’s gonna call you anyway, you thought selfishly to yourself as the first year walked away.

and as icy cold as you were, you were always the type to still give a little too much effort and care into things that most wouldn’t (not to you anyway). and surely, you shouldn’t be worrying about not apologizing to a boy who started your verbal quarrel in the first place when you opted to giving the cold shoulder afterwards. you had nothing to apologize for anyway and yet there you were—resting on a far from comfortable chair in your classroom during lunch alone as you stare outside.

feelings like this were far too foreign to you, far too dangerous as you even had the audacity to write a letter of your compiled forms of withering memoirs, serendipities you yearned to achieve, and even the surprising downpour of jealousy you wished you never felt. you assumed that writing them all down would suffice in ridding yourself of such feelings.

you dropped the pen as you bore holes into your hand with your hard gaze. crescent-shaped lacerations had divided your skin as even the lingering sting of wounded flesh didn’t really affect you. you cursed under your breath as you grabbed a tissue out of your bag to quickly wipe up the blood.

the padding of shoes against the floor of the loud classroom had gotten louder as if someone was approaching you, hitching a breathe within you as you swiftly shoved the slightly bloody paper under your english textbook. johzenji’s setter, takeharu come into view as he threw you a calm smile while you quickly hid your hands under your desk.

“hey, sorry to bother you (y/l/n), but are you okay?” the setter gently asked, yet it was laced with hesitance and caution as they were talking to you.

you shrug you shoulders, muttering through your teeth. “could be better, but i’m fine.”

“oh okay, that’s good.” takeharu response in the same awkward tone. could you tell you two hadn’t talked much? “you and terushima have been ignoring each other,” he then adds.

“really?” you scoffed, “i haven’t noticed.”

a soft chuckle left takeharu’s lips as he scratched the back of his head, “well, um, he’s been kinda annoying us lately. he’s been asking about you all day, but refuses to talk to you.”

your gaze flickers towards the setter, curiosity kindling within you. “why is he so stubborn about it?” you miffed.

“you tell me, (y/l/n).” there was something persuasive about his articulation, that even if takeharu was implying some sly arrangement, you couldn’t help but play along with it. “you two have petty arguments all the time that end up not being that serious, what happened this time?”

“the usual misunderstanding,” was all you could reveal, anything else and you would’ve landed yourself a one-way ticket towards absolute embarrassment.

takeharu scoffs, “of course it is. now, listen, terushima is acting weirdly and obviously that’s going to affect our volleyball practice, like i seriously don’t want extra drills just cause you keep ignoring him.” his thoughts lingered for a second, “i don’t know what you two argued about, but i think you two should talk and clarify some things and just become friends again.”

“we were barely friends to begin with, takeharu.” you asserted, your gaze finally turning to meet his in your usual deadpan expression.

“really?” he inquired, testing the waters he knew was perilous to trek on. “that’s not what i remembered when i saw you two skipping class that one day, or how you two are always with each other during lunches—”

a slight warm sensation reached your cheeks as you shook your head, “you’re looking to far into it. terushima’s the one who comes up to me and i just talk to him because i’m bored and have nothing else to do.”

“right, of course.”

a smirk melted upon takeharu’s visage and to what you would usually want to wipe that smug look off his face, you only turned away to hide the blush rising on your expression. “and that’s all it was,” you concluded. “besides, i’m pretty sure he has a massive crush on karasuno’s volleyball manager.”

“oh yeah, i think everybody knows that.” the setter laughs as if it were to lighten up the mood a bit more, but the look on your face when he said that made him recoil a bit. “b-but since he finally found someone he actually goes to school with and is actually his age, maybe—”

“maybe nothing,” you immediately cut him off, “are you forgetting how much of a fuckboy he is?”

“personally, i think he’s more of a playboy since he just flirts and doesn’t sleep around, but I get what you’re saying.” takeharu mutters matter-of-factly before continuing, “and obviously i’m not forgetting that fact, but based on how differently he acted today now that you were giving him the silent treatment, I think you actually have a shot.”

you brows furrow, “a shot at what?”

“taming the infamously untameable volleyball captain, terushima yuuji.”

you audibly scoff, feigning yourself from bursting out laughing at the idea. 

“think about it.” the setter starts again as you two look at each other attentively, “almost everyone here knows that you and terushima have a thing going, whether or not you two actually like each other. not that i’m saying you should live up to the peer pressure, but you two literally look like the epitome of opposites attract in a shoujo manga. what do you think would happen?”

“something unfortunate, that’s for sure.”

takeharu could only roll his eyes again, amusement lighting up his features as he shook his head at the notion. “i still think you should talk to him. lunch isn’t really over yet, either.”

you audibly groan as the setter suddenly forces you to get up out of your chair, “do i have to?”

“yes!” he exclaimed, “please, he’s being so annoying.”

the school’s crowded hallways surrounded you. you typically liked having your personal space, so having to be casually bumping shoulders with others as you walked through the hallway was literally your worst nightmare. perhaps it was the simmering and leftover fervor from your argument that your jungle-mind was too clouded with the thought of having even an inch of feelings for the volleyball captain. despite knowing where terushima’s classroom was, you weren’t even trying to find him anymore, instead, you wandered the labyrinthine corridors in self-indulgence until you managed to stumble upon the restrooms. they were right near terushima’s classroom.

you relieved yourself before cleansing your hands from the wet crimson that dried into a burnished brown. you didn’t have any bandages on you and you certainly weren’t in the mood to walk all the way to the nurses office, so you opted in wrapping your hand with two layers of toilet paper before trekking back out into the hallways.

a sigh escaped from your lips as you stepped into terushima’s classroom.

to your surprise, he was actually sitting at his desk for once and not walking around his classroom talking to others. rather, he did have others around him making conversation, but it wasn’t like terushima was active in their talkative endeavors in the first place, anyway.

“i’m here to make amends,” you announce, folding your arms over your chest as the students who surrounded the volleyball captain noticed your blinding presence and backed away slightly.

“did takeharu send you?” terushima questioned as he arched a brow at you.

“yeah,” you immediately answer only to be responded by the tilting confusion of terushima’s head in disbelief. “...but it was on my own accord as well.”

a chuckle emits from his lips as he nods, “okay then, you can continue.”

the hint of playfulness in terushima’s voice made it difficult for you to speak of your apology seriously. with the sense of lightness within the air, suddenly bringing up their past argument would surely eliminate the casual aura. “i...” you almost hesitates and you didn’t know why. fuck it, you thought. “i wanted to apologize for overreacting this morning. i honestly don’t even know why i got so affected by you flirting with others when i shouldn’t even care.”

the words spilled out of your mouth faster than anticipated and you immediately felt embarrassed. you weren’t used to apologizing despite certain faults in your past, you would never get used to it. you would certainly never get used to the hard gaze terushima’s expression fell into the moment you offered some form of remorse. and to what you assumed would be another form of reciprocated antagonizing of your character, a simple, yet small grin tugged at terushima’s lips as he looked at you. for a moment, you felt your heart stop.

how charming.

“it’s alright,” he replied positively, taking you aback. “it’s quite funny, though—how you acted. i was genuinely surprised, (y/n).”

you raised a brow at the boy before you, “really?”

“well, my feelings have always been a product of being played by you.” terushima slyly suggested a fact that you weren’t even aware of. he shifted his weight upon his chair as you remained speechless, “i always thought my feelings were obvious for you, (y/n).”

your eyebrows furrow into confusion as you noticed how everyone suddenly gave you and the volleyball captain space. “they were jokes, weren’t they?”

“and how would you know they were jokes?” he tested.

“you flirt with everyone.”

“only to get you jealous enough to like me back,” he fired back as you were found speechless once more.

your gaze that fell to the floor had flicked upon terushima, sighing as you shifted awkwardly from your stance in front of him, “i don’t get it.” you said when you leaned your weight against a desk behind you. “why me?”

terushima shrugs, “you were a challenge—a confusing one that is,” he confesses, “usually, people would either be too easy to win over or reject me straight up. meanwhile, you neither gotten easily won over or had rejected me, so i continued to be by your side until you noticed i was serious about my feelings for you.”

“you know i hate it when people aren’t being straight up with me, yuuji.” 

yuuji, the way your voice said his name was music to terushima’s ears as it kept repeating it in his head. he was so obviously wrapped around your finger, you didn’t even notice. you rarely called him this, but when you do, you were being serious. “i know, i just figured at some point you could’ve just completely told me to fuck off if you really wanted to... but you didn’t.”

you really didn’t. that was your complete downfall and realization that you possibly had feelings for johzenji’s volleyball captain. it filled you up with so much ichor, you assumed that maybe your feelings of annoyance for him was simply a facade. perhaps you hated the fact that you actually enjoyed terushima’s boisterous presence that you even felt you heart steadily quicken the more and more he poured his feelings out to you. god, you were a mess on the inside, but on your exterior, you visage was still as deadpanned as before.

“you’re right,” you finally spoke from a brief period of silence. “perhaps you’re not as annoying as i thought you were.”

“so you’re not mad at me?” he asks innocently.

you shake you head, “why would i? i was the one who got jealous in the first place.”

terushima could feel the corners of his lips tug into a smirk, “is this your way of confessing to me, (y/n)?”

“yes and that’s all you’re getting from me, yuuji.” at that point, you couldn’t help but put a small smile on your face as he offered his hand for you. graciously taking his calloused hands into you soft ones because you thought you two were doing your signature hand shake, terushima had actually pulled you into an embrace.

you two held each other for a good second, almost in awe as this was both out of your characters to be in each other’s arms, but it honestly felt nice. you and terushima had almost forgotten the tense air that was between you two the entire school day until it was interrupted by the loud ringing of the school bell.
