i originally REALLY didn't want to write retriever for him because that would have been boring i mean just look at him anyone would think he's a retriever boy but i couldnt do it it was too much for me he just IS

the lucky cat cafe doesn't really have the capacity to welcome another inhabitant (hiro and tadashi are already crammed into one room!) so he doesnt have any pets.

however, when tadashi does move out into his own place i imagine he would go to the animal shelter to adopt instead of purposely looking for any breed, so he wouldn't necessarily own a golden retriever. that or he would rescue abused dogs from breeders or dogs used for animal testing. i feel like i can see him with a labrador or beagle because a lot of them are found in shelters (and the beagle's trusting nature makes them popular for animal testing :( ). while i HC him to have bad allergies i dont think he is allergic to animals. even though you can take pets to get microchipped i think tadashi puts gps tracking in his furry companion's collar or clothes like he does for hiro

shibas are bratty and mischievous and if hiro doesn't give off shiba energy then idk

tbh i dont think hiro would be a dog person. like i think he would like giving them pets and belly rubs and all that but he wouldn't be up for the responsibility of taking care of them. like it's a whole life he's responsible for but he can't even take care of himself yet if anything i think he is more of a cat person and would prefer low-maintenance animal friends. plus he has to share a room with tadashi so it's not even like he can own any pets for another like 5-10 years and we KNOW hes not gonna move out of his house at 18 not in san fransokyo in this economy with 8$ ass matcha lattes

(assuming the economic state of the world canonically is similar to IRL bh6 canonically takes place sometime in 203x the USD has to be far more inflated than rn)

i like to think when hiro does age up and move out though he'd probably be a startup founder or some super high ranking engineer at a young ass age so he'd be super invested in his work because hes a robotics nerd like so much so that he almost doesn't have time for himself let alone a furry companion whose life and wellbeing he has to be responsible for

i think gogo would have something like a pinscher or a german shepard -- large, capable and vigilant watchdogs because her house is canonically in a shitty neighborhood and i think there has been several times where her dog has gotten her out of a troubling situation--when gogo cooks or grills meat she makes sure to share some with her buddy as a reward for their service and sometimes she also takes her friend on late night drives or motorcycle rides

gogo doesn't come by her friend via breeder nor animal shelter. the dog was just abandoned on the side of the road and she came across it one day on a leisurely drive. so she let the dog in her car and drove home. originally she didn't plan on keeping it: she calls her friends and anybody she knows if they want a dog-- they have no space in the house or they are too busy to welcome another friend into the household. she goes to the animal shelter in her neighborhood-- there is no more space. so she just goes home and they become great friends. there are very little beings for whom gogo has a soft spot and readily shows vulnerability to-- her furry friend being one of them.

i dont think honey lemon is a dog owner. like she wouldn't be opposed to it but she just hasn't gotten to it. she also lives in a dorm and dorms that allow pets are crazy hard to come by, so i imagine she wouldn't be allowed to keep any pets anyway. (but apparently MIT has cat-friendly dorms and SFIT is basically californian japanese MIT so who knows maybe). when she does move out from her dorm into an apartment i could see her owning a saluki or a pomeranian and she would give them cute little accessories and bows to wear. i think she would match outfits with them for a coffee run or something. i could also see her as an aviculturist because of her care for the environment

wasabi might be tall big and extremely vigilant and careful of strangers and thus intimidating, but i think he's the type to like little animals. like a gentle giant. because of his extreme need to be clean and organized 24/7 he probably wouldn't own a tibetan mastiff cus mastiffs drool everywhere and all the goddamn time. as a matter of fact he probably wouldn't own a dog (and apparently according to one of the bh6 games he lives in an apartment so he might not even be allowed to) i do think he would own a bunny and even some frogs, whose enclosures he makes sure are neat and tidy all the time. like he'd instantly start cleaning the bunny's cage after a single dropping.

fred doesn't really mind whatever breed his furry companion is. his mom might have qualms about owning "unsightly" breeds, but he's the heir of their billion-dollar family fortune so he really doesn't give any fucks cus he has fuck you money and his parents care more about his happiness so they end up shutting up pretty quickly.

one day fred randomly thought about getting a non-human sidekick so heathcliff brings him a tablet displaying a bunch of purebred breeders near them. except he looked at all of them for a few seconds and got bored and headed for a nearby animal shelter. he goes there to see all the animals they have and he instantly looks at this basset hound whos minding their own business and napping while every other dog is jumping and clawing at the gate of their room. thats sooo me duuuude fred thinks and instantly tells the shelter worker that he wants that one

anyways, they've both been heads of state and both of them are well versed in political science and economics, which leads to both some very fun conversations and some less fun arguments. (wilbur might enjoy it a little)

ok so yes I agree with that take in the context of the smp, but it's also important to point out that minecraft "capitalism" is what those capitalists who want to convince you it's good claim capitalism to be. Food is abundant, shelter has little requirements to be functional, you can literally just dig a little into a hill and you're set, and then make a farm from things you can find anywhere. Anyone can mine, anyone has access to anywhere that isn't already someone's exact base, food is easily accessible and renewable, etc etc.

What Quackity's doing is he's actually providing a luxury service which isn't at all necessary. And Las Nevadas deserves to earn a profit from people using its facilities, cause they've been carefully and deliberately made to provide entertainment. Quackity doesn't have monopoly on food, shelter, land, resources, etc. Anyone could make their own small version of LN if they had the want and time to. So it isn't fair putting cQuackity in the same box as idfk bezos or musk, cause in cQ's case it's deserved, earned, and not a monopoly that causes everyone but him to suffer. Translating that into real life is just simply much more difficult than taking it at face value

As a sidenote I think that while Quackity is like that on the outside, he still wouldn't ignore someone needing help. Like, he's definitely got that built up resentment of "I had to work for all of this so hard, I've gotten through so many hardships. Why should someone else have it easier??" but then when the push comes to shove he's still end up helping, even if just a little bit.

WIBTA for using my cousin's weed habit to convince my dad to let me go live on my own, making him pay higher rent? Hi so this is kind of a silly idea i had but wanted to see if it would be assholeish. Also it is not the only way out or anything, just a bit of a thought experiment. So i (24x) moved from mexico to the usa for grad school (2 years). For this first year i've been living with my cousin A (23F), A's college friend B (23F) and A's childhood/family friend, C (25F). Now they're lovely and really fun roommates, but honestly not very good to live with on an everyday basis. B and A are really messy (leave everything lying around - dirty plates, clothes, trash, you name it), and none of them are very clean. Other than them occasionally wiping the kitchen counters, emptying the dishwasher, or taking out the trash, i've done all the cleaning so far on my own (kitchen, 2 bathrooms, living room, hallways). I've made my frustration pretty clear (and even gone on strike lol, but i can't deal w a dirty toilet for more then 2 weeks), but nothing changes!! At this point i'm really fed up, and want to move elsewhere next year, preferably to live on my own. The problem is that we live in san francisco, and rent is... well, it's pretty expensive. Sorry californians you really got it rough. However, i've looked into the university's accommodation for grad students and it could be an option. I would be paying about $250 per month more than right now, but i would save on utilities (about $40 per month). The thing is, my dad is the one whose been paying for my living expenses ever since i went back to school. We used to have a rocky relationship (he was really frustrated with me not meeting his expectations; coming out as a homo, being a leftist, doing some weed as a teen...) and i think he sees this as 'making it up to me'. I really appreciate the way he has been trying to fix out relationship, and i'm obviously extremely thankful for the economic support. So i feel really guilty asking for more than he is giving me. Here is where my plan comes in -- my dad haaates drugs, and my cousin A has a pretty intense weed habit. WIBTA to complain about it ('waa the house smells like weed, theyre blazing it all day every day') to my dad, in order to convince him that me moving to the grad dorms is a good idea? EXTRA INFO: Would my cousin get in trouble? - not really i think. Its legal, and her parents are aware of her indulgences (i dont think they're happy with the amount she smokes, but they're pretty chill). I worry that if i complain to my dad, he would tell his sister (A's mom) and make it a huge deal, but as I said A's parents are pretty tolerant, and know of her 'addiction' anyway. Don't i have any money of my own? - not anymore lol, at least not enough to pay californian rent. I'm getting a job over the summer, but with visa restrictions (half time) i doubt i would make enough to make a difference. Working during term time is not possible for me (personal limitations). Also the increase in price would not bleed my dad dry or anything. Can't i just sort it out w my roommates? - they've proven to be admirably immovable objects on the cleaning issue. I mean, i can tough ot out, but at this point it's also the spirit of the thing that is pissing me off so much, rather than the cleaning itself. Do they just dont care?? I have LOOOTS of hcs for the both of them!! Ive been fixated on these two for four whole years i genuinely have too much to mention in one post lol so if you have any specific questions about specific hcs, do tell me!! Its a bit difficult to answer very broad questions like this bcs i dont know where to begin haha;;

I can very confidently say though, Illumi is absolutely nowhere near shy. At least-- not by the definition. In my eyes, Illumi is a very blunt and straightforward person with no social filter. I do like to think when it comes to hisoillu in general Illumi gets flustered here and there when dealing with his husband like any normal human in love is to be. But when it comes to being an actual shy introvert like hisoka-- absolutely not. You can tell the difference between how Illumi deals with people vs Hisoka. Hisoka is like the textbook definition of an introvert-- someone who constantly avoids people unless he wants to be the center of attention (mainly negative attention so it keeps people away anyways)

General hisoillu hcs would be... I like to humanize them. I like giving Illumi moles, stretch marks and arthritis from his transformation and eyebags from the amount of times he stays up for his missions. Also scars from his training that are faded. For hobbies I like to think hes extremely interested in learning. Just learning. Whatever hes learning doesnt matter, but knowledge is a very prominent fact about him and the zoldycks in general. So while I hc hes extensively knowledgable about anatomy and the economic and political states of the world (those pretty much canon tho lol) and the world in general, I like to always write him extending his knowledge in fics like learning a new language in his spare time or reading books in general. I could expand much more on hobbies including people watching and hanging out with his siblings but i feel like if there is a tumblr word limit i would 1000% exceed it lol.

I like to give Hisoka freckles on his tan skin (in the manga his skin is quite tan) that he hides and many more scars that are also hidden like he'd hide his arm scars after machi healed them. also the one time togashi drew him with hip dips. I liked that! I like to give him a human backstory like initially having a family that he either abandoned or was abandoned by to go on his own journey (not necessarily tragic, though i do not think tragic backstories take away from a character no matter how evil tbh. If anything, I strongly believe that babies are blank slates when it comes to morals until theyre taught otherwise by their environment.) And positive hobbies like cooking for himself because he only ever relies on himself and doesnt trust anybody else, which also goes with the hc of him not being a fan of taking any medication so hes a "tough it out" girlie. which also consequently affects other hcs like my trans hisoka hc and him not getting top surgery until after he married illumi because he does not trust a mf to put him under during it but he does trust illumi-- ITS A LOOONG STORY

I also like to consider their reoccurring personality traits as symptoms for neurodivergence. Like Illumi's bluntness and overly honest personality being autism and his highly emotional sides to him being BPD (i do have a thread on that!) and for Hisoka his hyperactivity and addiction for stimulating fights as ADHD (the adhd video i made abt him covers some of it lol) and you could argue a personality disorder for him as well to match with his hubby.

Also the queer hcs like i mentioned, transmasc genderfluid hisoka that doesnt mind all pronouns that i also hc as demiaroace and pansexual/bisexual while for Illumi I hc him as gay demiaroace agender, etc. These help a lot in figuring out their identities too.

Stuff like that are just the "layouts" for them in my brain that help me immensely when writing fics for them. You have to know everything extensively for the actions that they make to come naturally so when you throw them in a situation, you immediately know how they'd react (ex: sick hisoka would refuse to take meds, or more specifically like in my fic tolerate me darling hisoka was cramping and refused to take pain meds for it so illumi had to use his pins etc etc)

Those are pretty much the surface hcs i have for them that I always consider when it comes to any scenario or extra hc or fic/art or anything. For anything very specific, you'd have to ask about it for my brain to remember ehehe ^^

I think Camila used Eddie's feelings for her, to avenge herself of Billy's infidelities on the show, that many people considered It Queen behaviour 🙄, but to me Its not : If you can't forgive him then dump him, Its one of my mottos.

Its one of the few times I truly felt sorry for Eddie, cause It was obvious that his love for her was true, Camila was wrong , I'm sorry not sorry with that plot point, go argue with a wall, if you want to cheat on your husband, at the very least be smart about It and don't do It with someone Who loves you (and that you don't love) especially knowing that he does love you... Choose an ex or a hot stranger ffs!!! (Like she did in the book...Way better).

To fix It : Camila and Eddie are Friends (they met on class if dont remember wrong). Eddie loves Camila (what else is new/ Who wouldn't). Then their feelings explode after the Daisily affair. Then you can have whatever in this Au, either a divorce and everyone is Happy (or you do not have It and then you enter on Edaisy zone...)

See? That's how you do It, there I would've rotten for Edmila, create a cute crush/friendship previous link, (you can develop It with like 2 flashback scenes!!! Its not that hard), then the show scenario with them would be awesome! But It was sooo bad developed, and I think It was made on purpose to show Camila on a bad side, cause she hurt both Billy and Eddie in the process and the viewer perception about her too. its weird being in feminist spaces online bc on the one hand, we all understand that women have womens shelters because they actually worked towards gathering resources and opening these physical spaces. like they did actual work and didnt just wax poetic about the necessity. but then you have discourse about womens clothes and its like. you guys know there ARE brands out there creating functional clothing for the female form, right? and they end up shutting down due to lack of support? because we arent putting any action behind our words? and are just wishing good womens clothing into existence? like there are no mens shleters bc men didnt make shelters. there are no good female clothing brands because we 1) dont make them and if we do, 2) they dont get enough patronage to stay afloat. so yea guys, keep making tumblr posts about the lack of functional female clothing instead of seeking out and supporting those businesses. ill keep wearing my dads hand-me-downs because im economically and ecologically based.

Ooh anon we're playing with fire here... Alright everybody, feelings caps off and critical thinking caps on. This is in reference to a post I made a few nights ago about how I don't quite believe how many women claim they are incapable of wearing men's section clothes, a post which was itself in reference to another post that made the rounds on tumblr earlier this year. I wrote it after having had six beers and I'll be the first to admit, it was pretty inflammatory and worded in a way that lead a few people to reply defensively and angrily, so I turned off RBs and deleted it when I woke up the next day as damage control. The general gist of my post was that there are shitloads of options in the men's section that are far comfier with better quality materials than women's section clothes, that oversized clothes are easily adjusted for functionality ie. rolling up cuffs and wearing a belt, and that I think a lot of the women claiming they couldn't possibly wear men's section clothing are maybe just unwilling to "look bad," but again I wrote it in a way that obviously would not inspire good faith interaction with those whose choices I criticized. I'd like to take the opportunity to try again with this ask.

First of all, I also had a couple people say that they've had to wear the men's uniform at their job and it was ill-fitting and sucked. Of course I'm not arguing that women should not be accounted for in creating work equipment and PPE omfg, that's not what I'm talking about at all! That's a matter of safety and equality in employment, completely not what I'm saying. And I'm also not saying that women SHOULDN'T have clothes that are comfortable, functional, and properly fitting that are made with them in mind. We should be demanding this! What I am saying is that... we don't have that right now. Anon points out that there are businesses that have tried to do this and couldn't find enough patronage to stay afloat. Of course I want these clothing manufacturers to succeed, it would be the best case scenario, but in the mean time, we have two options: uncomfortable, flimsy, revealing, shit-ass-material that won't keep you warm women's clothes; and men's clothes that are possibly ill-fitting.

From the replies I did get, sounds like the biggest problem is with the hips to waist ratio, in men's pants the waist is too big when the hips fit. Yes, I get it! But I was also surprised to learn how many women are completely opposed to wearing belts?? I always thought belts were a wardrobe staple for most everyone, my Mom always wears one, I've been wearing one when necessary since middle school age. But happily for the non-belt-wearers, I've discovered that many men's pants actually have drawstrings, sometimes they're inside behind the buttons and zipper, so you can make them as tight or loose as you like. I have four pairs of pants like this, I wear them to work where I walk around and bring heavy things up and down stairs all day, they are sooo comfyyy.

The other thing is all my pants are from the men's now, and I have to tell you: sizing discrepancy is popularly framed solely as a women's clothing issue, but it's not really. Last week I bought two pairs of men's jeans from the thrift store, both size 34, without trying them on. One pair fits quite tightly around my thighs to the point that I will probably only wear them to events and not all day at work, while the other is the perfect size and so comfy I could sleep in them (don't worry, I won't.) It's trial and error all around when it comes to finding clothes that fit properly. There's not One Shape of men's pants. The changing room is your friend! Hang out in thrift stores long enough and you will absolutely find items that fit you wonderfully and feel comfortable.

So then we come to my main point: There are a lot of women who claim that men's clothes are just too big for them to wear and therefore they must resort to women's section clothes which supposedly fit them so much better... *FROM MY POINT OF VIEW* it seems a sort of convenient excuse to look the way a patriarchal society wants you to, in the same way that "sensory issues around body hair" is now a common stated reason to continue shaving and participating in sexist beauty culture without having to examine why you feel compelled to do so. I think when some women say they're unable to wear men's clothes, it's because they can't wear men's clothes and look as conventionally "good" as they do in women's clothes. And it's true, men's clothes are gonna be a bit looser and a bit more formless, but men aren't expected to be shrink-wrapped into their outfit like women are anyway. I understand the pressure to "look good," often women are treated poorly when they don't, but it's in your best interest and in the best interest of other women to resist that sexist pressure, or at least question it honestly.

Do I think you're a bad person for choosing to wear exclusively women's section clothes, absolutely not. I don't think women who shave or wear makeup or heels are bad people either. But I do think it's worth examining why you really feel like you couldn't branch out from the women's section.

Men's pants have a baggier crotch and ass area, but women's pants are often so tightly compact in the crotch that they can cause gynaecological problems. Men's shirt sleeves are quite roomy and may need rolling up, but many women's t-shirts have tiny sleeves that pinch your arms and draw your attention to the fact that your arm fat is being compressed. Men's pants can be quite long for a short woman, but cuffing them is simple: like anon said you can easily hem them, and if you don't sew like me, you can literally just cut them shorter and roll up the cuffs twice and KABOOM they become as short as you like. I want to reiterate that I do think women deserve to have clothes that are made with their comfort in mind, and I hope we do someday soon. But with the options we do have, there is a clear winner in terms of functionality, dignity, and quality. Men's clothes are made to be worn, women's clothes are made to adorn, decorate, be looked at.

Last point, when I hear someone say they're just too short or fat for men's section clothes... I can't believe them because I have seen A LOT of short and fat women wearing men's section clothes and doing just fine. You all have never met a short and/or fat butch lesbian? Ever? They look damn good in men's section clothing. I have a coworker who is 4'11" and shops 50/50 mens and womens clothes including pants. Like... I'm seeing short women wear mens clothes with slight alterations and zero problems. I really believe you can do it too. I believe!!!

In the end, I'm just a random tumblr blogger typing on my random tumblr blog, and you the reader have no obligation to take anything I say with more than a grain of salt. I know that we usually hc as a Marin biology kinda guy but I genuinely think that he wouldn't be too fond of the workload but instead want to work towards being a teacher and being the kind of teacher he needed as a kid, y'know? Annabeth: Architecture. I really don't think I need to explain this one to y'all but yeah she's an architecture girly. But if we want to branch out I can also see her studying law and working in the area of Child Protection.

Leo: Astrophysics. I have this head canon of him panicking because of the sheer amount of choices that he's presented with and choosing the first one of the alphabetical list. Lucky for him, he's insanely good at it AND it'll pay well in the future. He minors in mechanical engineering and realises that although he has all the practical knowledge because of his father, his theoretical knowledge isn't as strong lol.

Piper: Food Science. I'm trying to be unique here because yeah, she could do environmental studies but I also think it would be super cool to see her learning about food and developing new vegetarian versions of food because it's something she's visibly passionate about in the books.

Nico: I can see him getting a history / philosophy related degree for his bachelors just for him to get a  doctor of philosophy (Ph. D.) in mythology or folklore. His hyperfixation runs deep and he sure as hell is going to fuel it as much as he can.

Will: From what I can see in the books, Emergency Medical Services degree seems like the right field for him. He's already basically a paramedic at Camp Half Blood so he knows it's naturally the right step for him. On the other hand, for something a little different - he seems like the kind of guy who might be interested in studying cinematography or art history maybe.

Travis: He studies Economics because he's so fucking convinced that he can become the next Elon Musk if he studies this. Alternatively, he studies music because he wants to travel the world and like sing with the wind and all that shit.

Connor: he's a communications major because he's a really popular youtube and technically doesn't really need to go to college but oh well he can study communications.

Drew: She goes to cosmetology school as the first step to start her own makeup and skincare empire. She's super nice to all of her clients and helps out all of the other students when they're having trouble with something! I will not tolerate any Drew slander let my girl breathe.

I know Matthew plays hockey, but does he ever want to just give up whatever his government job is and take playing hockey to the olympics or at least pro level? I mean it's got to be more fun than whatever secretarial, front man type corporate job he normally has to deal with when working with the gov right? Or maybe getting into farming or something. I honestly think most of his time in any government post is like the twice-a-decade he gives enough fucks to be involved. Like, what is he going to do in an office? Stamp government documents? Since WW2, Matt's financial well-being has been so tied to Alfred's. I had an economics prof who joked that when the US economy stumbles, Canada breaks its neck, so there's some fuckery there, but let's be honest; Matt just occasionally gives Alfred the 'you have hurt my feelings' eyes and gets what he wants and like 500 apologies.

When I look at Alfred, I see someone who likes to work when it's something he's interested in. But Matt... always struck me as a bit French. Not that we don't work hard, but Matt hit the "they pretend to pay me, so I pretend to work' attitude sometime in the '70s. And he's half insane? Like man's wandering around the woods half feral for months on end in at least one of my timelines. He comes back needing anti-parasite meds, three kinds of antibiotics and Alfred going over his checkbook like 'what the fuck did you do with your dividend this time?" Like Afred's his own kind of batshit, but he's got a good head for numbers on his shoulders.

But yeah, the best way to keep him human is to let him do shit that actually appeals and keeps the depresso level below catastrophic so hockey, forestry, etc. Working in an office in Ottawa happens but it's rare, and when it goes on too long in tandem with being as lonely as he can be with only one major border, he ends up missing half his humanity and eating raw raccoon liver in the woods. Letting him slapshot Ivan in the face at the Olympics every now and again is good for the budget lmao.

Based on your reading of the characters I have a few questions if you dont mind answering them

Will Tommy have a new love in the movie?

Did S6 make it clear that Lizzys trajectory and her relationship with Tommy has ended?

I hope not? In 3 hours max, there is so much else I would like to see than giving him a romantic arc. I also don't think erotic or romantic love is all that much of a driver for him, so to devote time to a new erotic or romantic arc would feel very strange - *familial* love is important to him. I hope the movie is about family, especially Charlie. And given the era of focus as just prior to WWII, I think there's opportunity for some very interesting setup that takes Tommy out of the claustrophobia/inner focus of the last few seasons and starts to more cleverly use the zoom in and zoom out of family and political context. I mean, I *do* think they'll probably throw Tommy into bed with someone because that, too, is a significant part of who Tommy Shelby is, but I just don't see all that much room for a "love" arc. (Also I hate the idea of "find the right woman = all his problems solved!" because of what it does to women as well as an outcome that just doesn't exist in the real world -> I think if they did throw in a new love arc in 3 hours it would be very difficult to avoid that shortcut of Fix the Broken Man with the Love of a Woman being made. That's such a crappy motif :/)

Hard to say. Structurally, Lizzie was in every season, and we know end of S6 still left her with significant power in the business as well as custodianship of Charlie, so I really hope she's still in the movie - except with a major power shift. CEO Lizzie is absolutely my bag and that's what I would totally want to see, and her moving up the social/economic ladder in every series would structurally support that kind of leap in the movie. That in itself necessitates a relationship between her and Tommy, but I'm kind of impartial as to whether it's sexual, whatever - what I'd like to see is a different relationship, because every season also showed a very, very different evolution of a Lizzie & Tommy relationship. To show a final evolution where she is the one with the power would be interesting. I think a 'marriage' arc for them is done, though. Personally I never like arcs that end in marriage as the 'goal' - I've been more interested in how S5 and S6 showed marriage as a daily thing not as a goal - so to move beyond that and show a very different relationship filter would make structural sense as well as be interesting to me. I think if Charlie comes into the movie, it'd be hard to cut Lizzie out, too, but I can also see a scenario where she doesn't come back, because within that time constraint of a movie they'd have to be really careful picking a focus.

yesterday i read that long article by Lila Shapiro about Neil Gaiman but OP turned off reblogs on it so I couldn’t really share my opinion on it, not that I have a following or anything that adds value to the conversation, but I still wanted to express myself on the subject. I won’t share explicit details but ignore this if reading about abuse in general is difficult for you.

I knew who Neil was, at one point I think I followed him but to be honest the only work by him I was familiar with was Coraline and like many I liked it but that’s about it. I was curious to see good omens but never got around watching it. I think my impression of him aligned pretty well with the facade he was trying to pull off

I saw a lot of people saying the article was horribly written and while I do agree it was very graphic (maybe more than it needed to be?) I kept reading it in spite of not planning to invest too much of my time in it (took me about an hour and a half) and not out of morbid curiosity but because for me (as a person that has english as a second language) the actions and how they connected were really clear to me and it helped me understand the severity of it all. Could it have been explained any other way and still fulfilled the same mission? Probably, but often when reading articles explaining similar topics I end up feeling a bit confused so it was a first time for me to understand so much of a situation and who was involved and how things developed. Is it written in a way that people with trauma would most likely get triggered because of how explicit it is? Yes, there should be alternatives to that article and a source that explains high level the events without being so detailed but this article is not one of them and I wouldn’t recommend reading it in general

The length of how atrocious the situation is doesn’t only include sexual abuse, its also child abuse, gaslighting, cheating, economic manipulation, homelessness, some parts include mention of blood, piss, shit and vomit (that last bit was uncomfortable to me as I have emetophobia but reading about it doesn’t make me tense enough to not continue reading), scientology stuff, and many more difficult subjects so echoing what many are saying, you don’t have to read all of it or any of it all to condemn Neil Gaiman. Even if you were his fan. Its a lot and you dont need to punish yourself by putting yourself through that. You dont need to punish yourself at all, we collectively didn’t know these things about him and it makes sense so many people connected with his stories at one point. Its ok to keep a high level understanding of his actions and not a in-depth one to decide that what he did was not ok. Take care of yourself. You don’t need the details to decide that what he did was awful.

I do hope Neil doesn’t ever have access to someone that he could abuse, I don’t know if he’s capable of true change but it’s not on me to decide that, I just hope that while it doesn’t happen, no more people go trough his horrible ways and I hope the victims of his abuse can find peace, retribution for the damage and a support net (it seems like at least the last one is a reality). Unfortunately there’s still a child involved so currently that wish we all have is still not secured and I really wish that kid eventually is somewhere safe and receives help and support as damage has already been done and what’s scary to think is that possibly more beyond what has already came out into light.

Through his fiction he led on the idea he was somehow either the hero or the victim of his stories. Having the full picture it’s clear he was the hero for many because of his work for a long time, he also was the victim for a long time in his bringing up, but ultimately made the choice to be the abuser so he’s been all 3 at some point but no matter how much he could’ve been the hero and how much of a victim he was, it will never justify that he chose to be the abuser he so much portrayed in his work so he was fully aware of the magnitude of what he did (and most likely, unfortunately, still does)
