How I feel about this character

At first, he has a great design but also I like how passionate he is about Spikemuth and making his community proud by just rocking out and having a good time. I love goth characters that are just chill and friendly underneath their spooky appearance. I also like how its implied the man doesnt get out much, despite being a rock star. He only does concerts in Spikemuth and the only person he talks to regularly is his sister Marnie, so the dude really needs some friends. I love how despite being the most uninterested in Galarian sports and Dynamaxing, the other Gym leaders are stoked to see him and want to hang out with him, which is so sweet. His relationship to his sister is also sweet, as he gave one of his first catched Pokemon to Marnie when she was little and supported her decision to become Pokemon Champion instead of Dark type Gym Leader.

I really hate how he acts as leader of Team Yell cos with all the grunts obsessing over his teenage sister and the lengths they'd go to keep her in the championship by sabotaging everyone else, you'd think he would clue in onto all this and seriously reprimand them or stop them from being so creepy toward Marnie with showing up everytime she battles Gloria/Victor covered in fan merch and posters of her. Like Game Freak shouldn't have made its first Dark type gym be an army of weebs cos it really doesnt look good for Piers. I get the intention was Piers wants to look out for his little sis so he asks his grunts to cheer her on while he's busy doing gym leader shit and the grunts get carried away. But they never receive any punishment for their actions and Team Yell only start supporting the player character when Piers and Marnie team up with them to stop Rose. Honestly, this is more a problem with the story than Piers himself. Cos he's a pretty chill dude as a whole.

One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon.

Make him retire from being a Dark type gym leader to become a full time musician, disband Team Yell and let Spikemuth start up a new more stable gym for Dark type pokemon, start to travel Galar and see the world, start a long distance relationship with Sonia and after Marnie's old enough to live on her own, Piers moves in with Sonia in Postwick.

Just a couple of jocks in funny clothes who really love their animal friends and love doing Sports with them.  Leon is Chivalrous Hero Himbo and Raihan is Intense Rival Himbo. Leon is somewhat more himbo just from being a bit more of a muttonhead and having no sense of direction but both are big dorks and I love them.  

And then there’s Piers, who is not a himbo due to lack of muscle but who also has about four brain cells (one for music, one for Pokémon, one for loving his sister, and one for doing his hair like that) and who is so, so very tired.  He is Punk Goth Snack.

A cute little( ha little) plot bunny post swsh.

Alexis and Raihan are hanging out in his apartment ( which is fucking huge). They're both waiting for Elliot, as she's hanging out with Sonia and Nessa before coming over. To pass the time they do what any bros do: they cuddle. Mainly because Alexis is in love with Raihan's hoodie and refuses to not get out of it, so Raihan just accepted his fate and shared his hoodie with the shorter man.

So these two stay like this for a while, idly chatting with Raihan strolls through his phone. Raihan teases Alexis about Leon, Alexis gets flustered. Raihan calls Alexis handsome, Alexis gets even more flustered and tells Raihan to fuck off( affectionately). A particular talking point was came from a question that Alexis asked:

" Did you and the others have your own cuddle piles when you were younger?"

" Did we?" Raihan thinks for a bit, eyes widening in horror " Oh Arceus, I don't think we did," Que Raihans half mocking half serious dismay with a cuddley Alexis giggling.

After a while Raihan asks Alexis for a selfie, which he agrees to( Alexis puts up a middle finger because of course he would, much to the amusement of Raihan). Raihan asks if he can post the picture, knowing how private Alexis is. Alexis allows it, but only on Raihans private account, which then starts the snowball effect.

For the next few minutes Raihan is on his phone, typing rapidly, snorting to himself. Alexis asks what's so funny, only to get a mischievous look from Raihan.

" Looks like we're getting that cuddle pile,"

The first one to come over was Piers, surprisingly. Maybe it was convenience, their respective cities are close. Or maybe Raihan flirted pestered him until coming quickly. Either way, he was here and he bright some snacks and immediately flops next to Raihan.

The downside of having Raihan and Piers in the same room isn't the homoerotic friendship that they have ( at this point, Alexis just thinks that's the vibe between all the adult men in the league), but you have to deal with Piers' bluntness and Raihan's teasing at the same time. Poor Alexis, he just wants to relax and eat snacks.

The next set of people to come by where the girls, shopping bags on one hand, more snacks in the other. Sonia laments that she wishes she could have made curry if she'd known this would have been a thing, to which Nessa comments maybe they should plan another one to be sure. It's not a bad idea.

Soon, Gordie and Milo arrive, with snacks of their own. Soon enough Raihans apartment is filled with delightful chatter, different conversations happening at once. A personal favorite from my head is Gordie finding out Elliot's girlfriend is Eva Ortiz, aka Unova's Champion.

" What is up with you two and dating Champions?!"

The final person to come was, of course, Leon himself. He looked like he rushed over. I don't think he was expecting everyone to cheer when he got over and usher him to sit down with them in their cuddle pile. Alexis, by this point, was taking a small nap, due to the comfort of everything ( he feels safe enough to rest with them around 🥺). Which means everyone and their parent was gonna tease Leon about it lol. It was all lighthearted though, and they all ended up laughing about it( Alexis woke up from the laughter was very surprised to see Leon there).

All in all, it was a very good day. They all got to hang out together after a long time. They kept the conversations light, not bringing up league stuff or previous events. Alexis and Elliot seem to fit into the friend group perfectly, and Leon was smiling, laughing, listening, relaxing, much to the pleasure of his friends. It was a very good day :)

Pokemon SwSh GPL AU: Character Analysis P2

Hey all! I was going to call this “Gym Leader Analysis”, but I really wanted to talk about Leon and Sonia too. We’re just keeping this series going! Keep an eye out for P3 (It’ll probably be posted in the same night).

LEON:

AGE: 26

ETHNICITY: Half Hispanic, Half Black

GENERAL HEADCANNONS:

Leon is definitely cool uncle friend. I know he is a hot mess and can barely look after himself, but I just feel like he is so good at taking care of other people. 

Leon is a man of many faces. He can pump up a crowd one moment and rid his face of emotion the next. It is definitely jarring when someone first gets to know him. 

Leon is pansexual. He pretty much flirts with anyone (within his age range, of course). That being said, he isn’t out to the public yet. He isn’t ashamed of it at all; he just doesn’t want his sexuality to be the only thing he’s known for. 

Speaking of flirting, there is nobody he flirts harder with than Raihan ;) 

Leon was 12 when his dad died, and it hit him really hard. Since the rest of his family took it even harder than he did, he internalised a lot of his pain and focused on trying to help raise Hop. He doesn’t really feel like he ever got the closure he needed. 

Oh boy, is Leon protective over Hop. There is a 10 year age difference between them, so he will always feel like Hop is his “Baby Brother”. 

(Fun fact: He develops a similar relationship to Gloria when he becomes her Champion Mentor). 

Leon is a bit of an adrenaline junkie. He doesn’t really process the fact that some of the things he deals with are incredibly dangerous, which is a bit concerning to his friends. On a more lighthearted note, this means that he will ride any roller coaster without breaking a sweat. 

Cannot cook to save his life. 

Leon, like Hop, has ADD. That’s why he’s always getting lost/seems to have trouble keeping focus. 

SONIA:

AGE: 26

ETHNICITY: White

GENERAL HEADCANNONS:

Sonia is the smartest out of our gaggle of characters and she knows it. 

She and Leon entered the GPL together, but she dropped out before going to Hammerlock. Sonia originally joined the league thinking it was something she wanted to do because she was good at pokemon battles, but she quickly learned that the rigorous lifestyle trainers live wasn’t for her. 

Sonia had an uncertain period of her life where her best friends had all become gym leaders and she was stuck in Wedgehurst helping her grandmother. She definitely had imposter syndrome when hanging around them, so for a few years, she kept her distance. Attending University really helped her start to find her footing, though she wasn’t sure what branch of pokemon studies she wanted to focus on (until the game starts). 

She has a strong pokemon team, but she doesn’t fight with them anymore. She mostly keeps them around for company and they help her with her research! 

Sonia is super close with Hop. After becoming champion, Leon asked her to keep an eye on him. They very much have a sibling relationship (though neither will admit it). 

She is the friend that is overly invested in everyone’s love lives. Sonia is constantly trying to set everyone up together because she “just loves love”. 

RAIHAN:

AGE: 25

ETHNICITY: Black

GENERAL HEADCANNONS:

Tall boy! Raihan is freaking huge, and being around everyone else in the League only heightens this fact. He jokes that the one thing he will always hold over Leon is their height difference. 

You would think Sonia is the biggest gossip, but we all know that Raihan is. You can trust him if it’s something serious, but you have to preface that. If you don’t, you may as well kiss your secrets goodbye. 

Raihan is the best person to go to when you need help. He has big Gryffindor energy and will literally do anything you need him to. If he doesn’t, you just have to call him out for “being a coward”. His pride will definitely be the death of him. 

Raihan has the biggest social media presence despite not being champion. He is really good to his fans and will try to interact with them as much as possible. Will always sign autographs or stop to take a picture. 

He met Sonia, Leon, and Nessa through the GPL (they were all in the same season). He beat out Nessa but lost to Leon in the finals. Raihan took the defeat pretty hard and made it his goal to dethrone Leon, so he fought Hammerlocke’s previous gym leader and the rest is history. 

He really wants to impress Leon ;)

Bede once challenged his for his throne, but lost. Raihan always brings this up to him now that they’re both gym leaders just to piss Bede off. 

He really likes egging on his friends. Raihan never crosses the line, but he’ll say just the right thing to make you challenge him to a pokemon battle. 

Puts on a brave face, but definitely lets negative comments get to him.

The chaotic one in the friend group. 

PIERS:

AGE: 22

ETHNICITY: White

GENERAL HEADCANNONS:

Such a pure, soft boy. Literally the nicest, chillest person. He just scares people off with his edgy demeanour. 

He cares a lot about the people in his town. Since Spikemuth is small, it definitely feels like everyone there is a family. It was the main reason he refused to move the Dark Type Gym to a different location to obtain a Dynamax hotspot. (That, and he hates Dynamaxing). 

Speaking of, he is fairly new as a gym leader! Leon nominated him to participate in the GPL after noticing his raw talent in the GJPL (Galarian Junior Pokemon League). Piers didn’t expect to make it as far as he did, but he was truly the dark horse of his season. He made it all the way to finals and wiped the floor with the gym leaders he went up against. He did end up losing, but he used the newfound fame he received from participating to kickstart his band.

Two years later, Leon approached him again and asked if he was still interested in becoming a new gym leader. It started as a small, non league Gym, but his notoriety quickly gained Spikemuth new attention. He joined the League only one year after debuting. 

Despite being crazy talented at being a pokemon trainer, Piers really isn’t interested in it anymore. He likes the freedom that comes with pursuing his music career. (It definitely helped that his little sister shaped up to be an astounding pokemon trainer herself). 

Coolest big brother ever. Marnie chastises him for pampering her, but they are definitely best friends. They’re the type of siblings that, if one of them goes to the grocery store, the other will just tag along. 

Dad Friend. 100% a Dad Friend. Literally adopts Marnie’s friends the second he sees them. (Who are these twerps? Ok, I guess they’re my children now). Would never admit to this fact. 

Vegan. 

Piers and Marnie grew up in an artsy family with three other brothers (he is the exact middle child). They weren’t rich, but they are all super close and supportive of each other. 

NESSA:

AGE: 25

ETHNICITY: Black

GENERAL HEADCANNONS:

Looks are definitely deceiving with this one. Nessa is good at keeping a serene face, but if she loses, she is definitely seething underneath. 

So pretty, oh my god. She was scouted by a modelling agent during her GPL season. Nessa only signed after she lost the Finals Tournament. Her career started as something to keep food on the table now that she couldn’t become champion, but she has grown to respect her craft. She likes to use it to promote small businesses and make political statements. 

Nessa was trained by the previous gym leader of Hulbury (another water type trainer), so it was no surprise to anybody when she tried to hand their title off to her. Nessa refused to take it without winning a pokemon battle, fair and square. 

She is super athletic! Nessa was on the swimming team throughout school and won several region championships! Sometimes during the off season, she’ll help teach swim classes to younger kids. 

Best friends to lovers with Sonia! They met during their GPL but didn’t start to get romantic feelings towards each other until 6 years later. Everyone knows that Nessa has a girlfriend, but she keeps the fact that it is Sonia private because she doesn’t want the crazy fanboys to target her. 

Nessa takes on a big-sister-role to all of the new female gym leaders (Gloria, Marnie, and Bea). She and Melody will literally strike down anyone who even looks at their girls funny. 

Her relationship with Milo is hilarious to anyone who isn’t them. Nessa is convinced that they are rivals and must constantly train against each other in order to get stronger. Milo sees her as his best friend and will bake her treats for when they meet up. (Also, Kabu is their dad. I’m just stating facts).

Hey! I remember a while back I read a fanfic of yours regarding twilight wings- the unofficial Raihan episode. In it their was an oc of yours, and I was wondering if you have any more? I like making oc's myself and it's fun to see other people's ideas and stories.

Hi there!  You have...opened the floodgates (in a good way). I have quite a few champion OCs. I’ll focus on the various champion OCs I have since I’ve mentioned this on my blog before the champions of Pokemon remain my favorite class of characters as they have so much potential as we’ve seen with Leon in SwSh. This is going to be a somewhat long post as I have 5 champions to talk about (plus there are pics here, most of them commissions from some very talented artists that I’ve tagged as I can’t draw)

(There’s Marsha and her starter/ace Rosemary the Audino with @hayleyb100 ‘s character Richard. Thank you HayleyB for drawing this! And if you guys haven’t please check out her amazing art and stories)

I’ll start off with the OC you mentioned in your ask...Marsha (full name Marsha Miller). She’s the Alolan champion that we see in my Conviction, the Raihan twilight wings episode (also shameless plug for my fic). Like many champions she’s a mixed type trainer, but she does have a slight preference for fairy types on her team. Unlike the SM/USUM protagonist, she actually hails from Unova but her family is military (her father used to serve under Lt. Surge before becoming a lieutenant himself) and so she’s lived in Unova, Kanto, and Alola. Before she ended up becoming Alola’s champion, she was content with being head of the cheer squad at her high school while in Kanto (before her family announced moving again and she was needless to say, quite upset at the prospect of throwing away her cheer captain title). Back when she lived in Unova, she would often stop by her grandparents herbalist shop to learn about various medicinal herbs.

I hint to this a bit in my Convictions fic when Marsha asks Raihan a question about him becoming champion elsewhere, but Marsha has a huge bout of imposter syndrome from being the first ever champion of Alola as she doesn’t feel like she measures up to the legends like Red or Blue or known superstar champions like Leon and Cynthia. A lot of her character growth comes after she wins the title as she learns to work with Kukui to help build up the Alola League and make it famous. Luckily she happens to be a pretty friendly, if somewhat reserved character making it easy for her to befriend the likes of Leon and Raihan (and she also gets them to be a couple). Both Leon and Raihan give her tips they’ve learned from being in Galar to help boost the reputation of the Alola League. Back in Alola she is good friends with Mallow, Plumeria and Mina as they often visit Mallow’s restaurant to eat and catch up. She ends up being a big sister friend to Gladion, Lillie and Hau (being in her late teens when she first met the kids) as well as Iris when she meets her at the champion’s conference.

The next one is my probably my most well-developed champion OC and my version of Victor/Gloria...Calla Okoro. She’s the Sword Hero of Galar to go with Hop’s Shield Hero. Calla is a baby genius with an IQ of 162 (so she’d qualify for MENSA in the real world) and graduated college at the age of 12 with a degree in chemistry, a year before she ends up taking on the gym challenge. Her favorite type is poison and she decided that she would take on the gym challenge by using only Poison types, refusing a starter from Leon to train up her Budew and other poison types she found along the way. 

Her knowledge of poison types would become very useful towards the end of the challenge and Eternatus awakening and possessing Leon , however this girl struggled so much at the beginning as the poison types she caught don’t really get good until they evolve. It was also a testament to having book knowledge of Pokemon and type advantages doesn’t equate to automatically winning a battle. She struggled especially at Kabu’s gym, resulting in her first official loss (outside of losing her second battle to Hop at Magnolia’s house due to his Rookidee being super effective against her Budew nicknamed Sabi). Calla is persistent though and patient so she worked with her team developing a killer toxic stall strategy (that helped her be the first person to take Leon down). As champion Calla uses her position to promote science and eventually goes back to school to get PhD, becoming the first Galar champion to also be a professor. When Calla is not doing Pokemon battles or giving science demos, she tends to enjoy doing backflip competitions with Gordie or rocking out at Piers’ concerts with Marnie and Hop and Bede (Bede will deny hanging out with them)

This is Jabari Revere, my Kalos champion OC and part of the Kalos 5. I’m still working on his backstory and personality as I replay Pokemon Y (I tend to replay the games for my champion OCs to build up their teams and get a sense for the personality). Jabari is a water type champion who enjoys his days swimming in the ocean and surfing on his Mantine, nicknamed Monterey. Like Serena from the anime he is a bit at odds with his mother Grace for wanting him to take up the family tradiiton of Rhyhorn racing. However unlike anipoke!Serena, he did have a goal of training water type Pokemon with the aim of becoming a water type champion just like Wallace from Hoenn. Jabari is definitely an easy going fellow, which helps him befriend Serena, Tierno, Trevor and Shauna as well as Grant and Clemont. Unlike my Galar champion Calla, he is more willing to use Pokemon other than water types, such as when he fought Korrina at the Mega Evolution tower using the Lucario who was attracted to his aura, or when he rescued Yveltal from Team flare and let it get revenge on Lysandre

Yes, you’re looking at a robot. His name is Valen and is actually my first non-self insert Pokemon OC. After watching the first Pokemon movie and seeing Mewtwo be a Pokemon trainer, and also after watching the Watson computer on Jeopardy, I came up with the idea of “what if someone made a robot as a Pokemon trainer”. Hence Valen, the world champion of my version of the Pokemon World

Created by Molayne and Sophocles at the request of Red and Blue as a new fixture for the battle tree, Valen quickly began to learn from the some of the strongest trainers how to battle (with a frequent opponent being Marsha as she needed someone who could challenge her in battle). Once he figured out how to consistently beat the likes of Red, Blue and Marsha in battle...it was a wrap. Valen travelled to every known region and soon became the undisputed most powerful trainer in the world defeating every last living champion. He even took on Leon, Cynthia and Red in a triple battle and won. Despite his absolutely monstrous skill Valen is an absolute sweetheart and always compliments his opponents in battle. He also loves bowties, with his first gift being the red bowtie he sports from Sophocles do not touch or harm that bowtie if you value your life, it’s one of the few things that will actually piss off this gentle giant of a robot.

So this is my final non-self insert champion OC,  His Royal Highness Jack, Duke of Stow-On-Side. In a discord server and on some messages here on tumblr, I’ve described Jack as the unholy combination of Caillou and Jack the Ripper.  Jack hails from a disgraced family of aura guardians who learned that they could use their aura powers to create shadow Pokemon. 150 years prior to the main Sword and Shield story line his family managed to beat back the Hammerlocke Royal family (aka the great Raihan’s family) from Stow-On-Side and Ballonlea to claim the two towns for themselves. When Peony stepped down as champion Jack ended up taking the champion title. Now Jack is actually a legitimately powerful trainer without the need to shadowfy his Pokemon, but he does so anyway to ensure absolute control and to hopefully make his royal family the absolute rulers of Galar (his actions would years later inspire Sordward and Shieldbert, the Dukes of Motostoke). He even bribed gym leaders to be extra difficult on challengers he deemed to be a threat (so Leon, Raihan, Nessa and Sonia got hit hard with this).

Jack’s misdeeds are pretty vast. The reason why Sonia is so unconfident in her battling skills? Jack ambushed her in the wild area and destroyed her in a match while mocking her. Why does Leon have that perfect image as champion? He’s trying to build back the reputation the Galar league has after Jack nearly destroyed it’s rep on the world stage with his actions. Why are Leon and Sonia so insistent on you focusing on the gym challenge and leaving the problems to the adults? The adults during their gym challenge were either on Jack’s side or were actually useless against him and his shadow Pokemon. To quote my friends in an rp server I’m in “Jack is the absolute worst”  So that’s all of the champion OCs I have. As I continue to write more fanfic will definitely see all of them pop up in various stories.

More headcanons for the boys +romance

Piers

Piers is secretly a sap for old movies. Black and white ones to be more specific. He not only finds them aesthetically pleasing, but also with their own charm. Theres a small theater in Spikemuth that exclusively airs vintage movies, and visits whenever he has time.

His and Marnies biggest bonding activity is hair night. She'll help him redye the white streaks in his hair(which is no small task). Piers will blow dry and straighten hers. They'll put on a bad movie from netflix, order take out and have a night. 

Piers can play guitar. But it's more for personal use than anything. He finds it relaxing to just sit an play while he writes songs. It's only for very specific songs that he'll play in stage. They're usually the very emotional ones that mean a great deal to him. Every piers fan knows, if he's holding a guitar, the crowds tears will follow.

Ever see that video of a dog relaxing while his owner plays the pokemon theme on an acoustic guitar? That's Piers and his pokemon.

Obstagoon is like a big bratty dog. Always wants treats, always wants attention. And will whine when it does not get them. When it was a zigzagoon, it would give big pouty eyes for treats and table scraps, and it always worked on young piers. He was a chubby little thing back then.

When skuntank was a stunky, it was biter. Nothing was safe. Furniture, clothes, fingers. Piers always had little red mark's from the teething pokemon. A quarter of all his money always went to replacing toys Stunky had destroyed.

Romance

 Piers has always been bashful around  people he genuinely likes. *coughraihancough* he'll do his damndest to play it off. But he's always been terrible at hiding a crush. Especially if he blushes around them. He's so pale any color on his face will be very evident.

Half the time he always assumes the other person has no interest in him. But he isn't dense enough to not be able to tell when he's being flirted with. He feels better talking to someone when he knows/feels like his attention is wanted. It makes him less nervous.

Isn't one for initiating pda, but is not opposed to it. He likes having his arm around his s/o shoulders though. 

Has written breakup songs before. No you can't hear them. They're private and locked away in his desk. He has just enough self respect to not air his relationship drama on stage.

Play with his hair, he'll be putty in your hands. 

Has never understood people who stay in relationships with someone who does not get along with their loved ones. Marnie is all Piers has, and if someone cannot get along with her or makes her uncomfortable, they are out. Plain and simple. Unless Marnie says it's ok to keep seeing them, Piers won't pick a relationship over his sister.

Piers is always busy with gym responsibilities or performances and practice. As fun as it can be to bring his s/o to events, his favorite date night activity is to stay home with them. He'll make them a nice meal, put on a movie and relax on the couch. 

Is actually a big cuddle bug. He loves snuggling on the couch. His head on your lap. Holding them in bed. Piers is touch starved and needs attention, please give it to him.

Start giving him good luck kisses before a performance, it'll be his favorite thing.

Raihan 

Raihan acknowledges he can be very vain at times. But the one being that out vains him at every turn is Duraludun. If it sees Raihan filming or taking a photo, it will butt in and try to take over the whole shot. It has become very good friends with the Rotom in his phone. When they get bored they'll stage a hostile takeover of his instagram andTwitter. It become a monthly thing.

Not so secretly a bookstagramer. Raihan always ends up in the vaults and libraries of Hammerlocke. He saw one of his gym trainers, Camilla, taking pictures of the books she was reading and asked about it. She showed him a lot of aesthetically pleasing pictures of books, and libraries, and artfully cluttered desk and wanted to try. It's not a secret, but he does try to keep it separate from his hyper dragon man gym persona. Sort of business vs. Personal deal.

He dresses very well. Despite that more often than not he is in his favorite hoodie and gym uniform, when Raihan wants to dress up,damn son. He spends a lot of time online and is friends with Nessa and Sonia, he knows what's up in fashion and what looks good on him.

He and Gordie are the Meme Team. Everytime they have a conversation it will descend into quoting and reenacting vines. Only the younger gym leaders know what they're saying, they just refuse to encourage it. Except Alister. Hes a little kid that hears these cooler older dudes being funny and try to join them. Hes they're third member now. Poor Bea, she couldn't save him.

Out of all his pokemon, he's had flygon the longest. Raised it from a trapinch when he was a kid. That's why he wears that orange hat/headband thing, to honor his buddy. 

Takes very good care of his skin. Partially because his face is always on camera, but also because his skin dries out easily and always need moisturizers. Nessa showed him all her favorite brands. He likes chilling out with a face mask, it's very soothing.

Romance 

Raihan is a very confident, attractive, and friendly guy, he pretty much never has trouble getting a date.

That being said, sometimes he gets a bit too confident and ends up coming on too strong for some people. 

This was definitely a problem in his teen years. He would just say the wrong thing with all the bravado he could muster and whoever he liked would scoff and walk away. He grew out of it, but it could be downright painful to watch young Raihan flirt.

Raihan is pretty laid back and generally takes rejection very well. Only when it was someone that he REALLY liked and had for awhile is when he gets truly upset. And when that happens he just hangs out at home for a bit or go out to the wild area, Spends time with his pokemon. Generally just wants be alone with his thoughts till he can bounce back. 

When Raihan is dating someone, he surprisingly doesn't want to post about it for awhile. If they're still together after a few months is when he'll post selfies and cute couple pictures. He's learned the hard way how certain types of fans will react to him dating, and once they go public they wont have as much privacy. He likes to have that grace period of just being a couple without all eyes on them.But once that initial hurtle is over. Its photo city with him.

Is a big fan of "good morning" and "good night" texts. Also loves falling asleep over the phone when you can't spend the night together.

Honestly just text him a lot in general. A lot of gym things take up a large chunk of his time. Text that you miss him, or a picture of one of your pokemon sleeping on the couch, ask if he wants pizza later. Literally anything will brighten his day. He'll definitely return the favor. 

Loves taking s/o out on the town. From league events, to friends parties, or just dinner and shopping. He wants to show them off. If you aren't comfortable with it, tell him sooner rather than later. 

Is a giant tease. Loves to whisper whatever he can in your ear or send something risque over text to make you blush and then act completely innocent.

Leon

Has a room in his house just for Hop. Hop used to love visiting him every summer in Wyndon. Otherwise he would never see his brother. The visits got less frequent over the years. But Hop always has a place to stay with Leon.

After he had been champion for a couple years was when the merch train really got rolling. Tshirts, posters, stationery. You name it, it had Leon's face on it. As a kid he lost his shit over it and but over the years got less enamored. Although he does have a soft for the Leon toys. After all, who doesn't want an action figure or doll made of them?

Leon does his best to keep himself and his pokemon in shape and on a daily routine. That all gets thrown out the window when he visits home or family comes to see him. All his pokemon get treated like spoiled house pets. FromHaHaxrus  being a test taster for his mom to Hop flying around the neighborhood with charzard. Its takes over a week to get everything back on track after.

Charzard is obviously the leader of all the pokemon next to Leon. All the newer pokemon always look up to them for guidance and charzard is always friendly and helpful. They are also very fond of kids, it loves events like visiting schools or children's hospitals. He's like a drampa in charzard skin.

Haxorus is a diva. She loves attention and shiny things. She adores Sonia because when she was just an Axew, Sonia always gave her a little trinkets, like sparkly hair pins or a pretty rock. She also loves to be complimented, Leon always calls her his pretty girl. Theres pile of shiny stuff that no one is allowed to touch at Leon's house unless she allows it. 

Whenever leon visits home, he always tries to go out with his old friends. Usually they have a few drinks at the local pub and have dinner. Oddly enough, Leon can get lost going next door, but can stumble home no problem when he's drunk. Go figure.

Ever heard of a sneaker head? Well Leon is a hat head. Whenever his favorite brands come out with a new hat design, you can bet your ass he'll be line for the release or online waiting for the listing to show up. The wall of caps at his moms house is but a humble sample of his collection.

Played softball as a kid. He throws his pokeball the way he was taught to pitch. As a kid leon liked to think if he couldn't be a trainer, he would like the be a baseball player. 

Romance 

Leon can't flirt for shit,and I mean this in the nicest way possible. His idea of breaking the ice is asking if you want a battle. 

Leon was especially hopeless as a teenager. He spent so much time with the league, an environment of mostly adults, being around anyone his age was a damn miracle. 

Sonia and Raihan would always take him to parties to socialize. But anytime someone tried to make a move on him, Leon would just think they were being friendly. 

Raihan has always been his wingman.

Raihan: My friend over there thinks you're cute. *points at the damn champion waving awkwardly from across the room.*

Even Now, they still do this. And it still has 50/50 shot of working.

Has been in a couple relationships, but both have ended badly. They were ultimately with Leon for his title and not him.

Leon wants to be with someone, he just finds it's harder for him than he realised. When he does find someone, it's going to be a bit of a slow go to know them and be sure they aren't using him. When that wall breaks he going to be the happiest man around.

Leon is affectionate and will always find a way to touch his s/o. From a kiss on the cheek, to random hugs, to lightly touching their back as he passes.

This man has never half Assed anything in his life. Leon's a go big or go home kind of guy, so when he wants to make a romantic gesture, he'll put his all into it. From picnics on the stadium field, to a special camping spot in the wild area, dinner on the top floor of the battle tower. Even just flowers will be from the best florist in in the city. Leon wants to show how much he loves you and nothing but his 110% best effort will do. 

As extra as Leon is, it's always the small quiet moments that get him. He'll wake up early and see his s/o peacefully asleep, and he'll just melt and stay there for awhile.

 You could try to make his favorite meal and burn everything and he'll still be touched. It's very much the thought that counts for Leon, because it shows you care enough to put the effort in.

King of cheesy lines. Will say the lamest pick up lines or something he heard in a movie to try and make you laugh. It usually works because he always says it with a straight face.

nessa is a marine biologist! marine life is her ultimate passion and she just loves everything about it so its the perfect job for her!

idk what leon is yet think hes probably still champion (idk if vic/gloria exist in this au ill figure that out later) but hes very good friends with nessa and sonia and is gay for a fish hahaa

bea is still just a gym leader i think but sometimes shell hang out on the beach with allister theyre very good friends and sometimes she even carries him around in a wagon lol but yeah she probably saved him from some fishjing net situation he got trapped in bc again he. cant see for shit buyt yeah hes basically only alive because of her if she wasnt there on the beach that day he wouldve died :[

So naturally once Golden and Kabu are dating (and maybe even before that) she meets the other gym leaders! I imagine the gym leaders are actually a pretty tight group and they’re really excited to meet me since Kabu is kind of a mentorly figure to a number of them. Some of them are also like spits coffee that age gap???

SO GYM LEADERS and how they get along with me!!!

Milo - I HC that Milo, Nessa, and Kabu are especially close. Milo is THRILLED to meet me. He’s real nice about it and tries to be cool but he’s clearly really really happy to see that Kabu has someone special to him. I have to say that I’m personally interested in Turrfield and it’s ruins, so I end out there fairly often (Milo invites me the first time), and I always end up helping him out with the Wooloo herd or whatever he’s doing that day. Sometimes he tells me sweet stories from when everybody was a lot younger, and how kind Kabu was to him as a mentor. We definitely bond and get along :D

Nessa - Nessa is an official platonic fave (...think I need to update carrd still) :p she’s clearly as thrilled as Milo that I’m around, but still wants to see for herself that I’m worthy of her beloved friend and mentor. She challenges me to a battle immediately lol. She’s surprised by how tough I am. We definitely end up bonding over men trying to tell us how to live our lives/casual misogyny ksjafhjskd neither of us are here for that shit and we will back the other up. We also get along for plenty of other reasons though, and I start getting invited to go hang out with Nessa and Sonia which is pretty cool :D

Bea - I’m totally floored that there’s someone so young in the gym (even if it’s a shared title). I try to treat her with respect though and not patronize her, which she really appreciates, even though she doesn’t show it much. She wants to fight me and despite trying to treat her like an adult this makes me nervous - but we have a good battle and my respect for her grows. When I’m in Galar she’ll often request I come train with her. She knows my schedule is pretty open outside of spending time with Kabu and seeing friends. We don’t talk much other than that (other than me telling her about some of my team that I left behind in Ecruteak and how we train), but that’s how Bea likes to friendship so I am good with it! I admit, I want to be a bit of a mentor for her, even though she’s clearly already at my level, hehe.

Allister - BABY SPOOKY BOY. He notices the Haunter in my shadow immediately. That’s the only real reason he decides he’s okay with talking to me at all and doesn’t run off. Haunter is thrilled to meet him and his ghosty pals. It takes a lot of strength for him, but Allister definitely picks up on the fact that Haunter is...weird. He’s probably the only person in Galar (outside of Kabu) that I tell about the silver wing I suspect is inside Haunter. Allister is too familiar with ghost types - he knows something is weird, and the fact that he was curious enough given how shy he is makes me feel like he deserves an answer.

Opal - She teases both Kabu and I about our relationship at first hehe. She also tries to convince me to take over her gym (before Bede, of course) but Kabu helps make it clear I’m not interested in that. She thinks that’s a pity, because my Togekiss kicks ass. I see her as a potential mentor figure, even though it takes a while before I’ll fully admit that to myself. We generally get along pretty well and she naturally falls into that role.

Melony - Melony is so sweet! She’s another one who seems really over the moon for Kabu, which in this case since she’s similarly aged to him, makes him a little embarrassed. They have a pretty casual friendship. Part of her that really likes Golden wants to sort of adopt her to compensate for the fact that she doesn’t talk to Gordie much these days, but she also feels that would be weird since I’m seeing Kabu, who is her age...so she settles for being a bit distant but still clearly interested in supporting me. Despite not being super close, I think I probably end up going to talk to her when I have a serious problem - I can imagine I go to her when I’m trying to figure out how to handle the fact that I don’t live in Galar and don’t want to, but I do want to be with Kabu. She seems like she’d be happy to give advice ya know?

Gordie - I should admit I don’t have much of a grasp on Gordie’s personality since I played Shield and he hasn’t had a Twilight Wings ep! I think Golden is a bit thrown by the fact that he has a really dedicated fanbase and seems to lean into that popularity. I feel like they probably don’t talk very much, though they do get along fine.

Piers - He’s happy for Kabu for sure, but I wouldn’t see Piers and I become particularly close. He’s a little intimidating, honestly! That doesn’t mean we aren’t friends though. We have a friendly battle and he seems pleased by it. He also seems like the type that once he lets Marnie step up as gym leader, he might just show up in Johto to visit without warning me ahead of time. That’s the point where I’m like, 100% certain we’re friends. Before that I’m always a little bit unsure because he’s hard to read. :p

Raihan - Raihan likes to tease both Kabu and I. He thinks it’s great that he can finally get under Kabu’s skin a little. Up to this point Kabu was basically unflappable as far as Raihan was concerned, and he really likes teasing people as a show of friendship. It’s especially easy to make me flustered on the subject. But Raihan is also really curious to hear about my encounters with Lance in Johto and Kanto, since Lance is also a dragon type user...in any case, he decides we’re going to be friends and it happens. I’m not able to defeat him in battle, but he does like to invite me to do double battle training with his team, and even for doubles exhibition matches (a new concept I just invented because I wanted to).

Bonus Leon - he heard from Oleana and Rose that I’m kind of a big deal in Johto (which is only sort of true anyway) so he was super curious about that. I find it hard to keep up with him. He seems to have boundless energy. I’m like no wonder he’s the Champion, he’s freakin indefatigable.

These are just some initial thoughts, subject to change. Open to any suggestions or headcanons if people have any but no pressure! The games leave us a LOT of room for personality interpretation and clearly some characters I have better ideas for than others!

Pokemon Sword/Shield headcanon dump

Surprise I have a lot of geographical/public transit headcanons. Good mind to write a story that centres around it tbh.

Galar is probably not big, from the fact that flying by Corviknight from Hammerlocke to Postwick is negligible enough that it kinda just cuts from one to the other in the game. I imagine it’s still quite a bit of time, like 2 hours perhaps.

The reason people don’t just take the flying taxi all the time is that it’s expensive compared to the trains.

Also, based on Twilight Wings, you can get from to Postwick to Turffield in an afternoon (I assume there’s a train ride involved) so it’s probably a 6-hour ride from north to south at the most. It’s not a long trip but it’s enough that no one wants to take it daily.

I do think there’s one train line serving Hammerlocke to Wyndon specifically, it passes through the mountain range and I imagine it’s maybe a 2 hour ride. And a different one runs from Hammerlocke to Wedgehurst through Motostoke, this one’s more like 4 hours. There’s a third line from Wedgehurst to the Wild Area meetup spot, this one’s 1 hour at the most.

Player character and co:

My Victor's signature Pokemon is Vikavolt just because of the name. But he also has an Arcanine, and he probably picked Sobble.

My Gloria’s signature Pokemon is usually Coalossal, I dunno I just like Coalossal and think it fits her. She also usually has a Roselia/Roserade because it’s fun for the visuals. Normally I have her pick Sobble, but the AU where she and Victor are twins, she picks Scorbunny.

(Hop usually picks Scorbunny, but in the twin AU, he gets Grookey. I like the direction of the type advantages, and also Victor with Sobble.)

My Victor is reserved and very no-nonsense while Gloria is a bit of a goof, but determined when it comes to it. That way the trio has a nice balance of personalities

Victor and/or Gloria probably moved to Postwick when they were kids, maybe 6 years old, which is why they’ve never met Leon. Where they moved from is anyone’s guess, but I tend to imagine it’s a city off the map that’s closer to the north, or even an unnamed neighbouring region.

Victor also wins the champion cup but idm stories where Gloria does, I see them as equals in battle prowess. My HC Victor has his head firmly on his shoulders and would have the most humility when he wins. I like the idea that Victor is a  strategist while Gloria relies on high speed/attack

Rivals:

Hardcore supporter of Sonia and Hop having a big sister/little brother relationship. Sonia is just “smh” at Leon never being around, because she has always wanted a younger sibling so how is it he can stand to never visit his bro. She takes up that role more and more over time, especially after Hop becomes her assistant. They are both loquacious and lack a filter so they end up telling each other about every last problem on top of complaining about work. They also have no qualms voicing annoyance at each other.

Marnie sees through bullshit, kind of like my HC Victor does, but she also has no qualms being firm about telling people off, unlike Victor. All of them keep Marnie’s contact number on hand and probably hang out with her when they need a good talk about something serious or if they need defending against a bully (like Bede).

I especially like to imagine Hop and Marnie are great friends. Hop trusts Marnie enough to vent to her, and Marnie finding him a breath of fresh air and hangs out when she’s sick of gym leader responsibilities. I imagine she had a hand in snapping him out of his insecurities about living up to Leon, she’s like “look he probably doesn’t want to be put on a pedestal” because she Knows. They complain about their brothers.

Speaking of which, Leon and Piers are just complete embarrassments to their younger siblings. Marnie and Hop probably hang out whenever the two are on live TV just to mock everything they do onscreen.

Bede is still a bit nasty after becoming a gym leader, like he’s not as bad but he doesn’t completely reform. He is absolutely a drama starter, he doesn’t even have to try, and half of Galar kinda lives for it even though it’s unpleasant at times.

Bede gets the ratings on any TV programme way up, so he’s constantly appearing on TV. And in the news. He just rides around Galar on his sparkly Rapidash like some fancy bastard and all the people who love glam assholes are falling over their feet for his autograph.

I HC both Leon and Hop as having ADHD. Especially Leon because of his vibe of being extremely competent in somethings but completely hopeless at others (relatable). Plus they’re always running off ahead of everyone else, they get super focused on things, Leon always loses his way, Hop is always barging in without thinking, etc.

Ever since I found out about them, I like the idea of Leon and Hop’s middle names being their French names, Tarak and Nabil.

Gym leaders:

I like to imagine that the gym leaders sometimes drop by each other’s and bring food from their town. The Corviknight taxis make it possible to do that without food getting cold.

Piers relies on people (especially Marnie) bringing him food or else he just. doesn’t eat. He’s probably passed out from not eating. (this is also relatable)

They probably also just hang out a whole lot. I like to imagine being a gym leader is a 4 day work week at worst, it’s good money and they get hella free time during the off-season. So that means all those “AUs” where they all just hang out and do silly shit together are totally valid and canon in my HC.

On that note I imagine that Sonia and Nessa have weekly lunch dates. They absolutely vent and shittalk people during those, like we see in Twilight Wings. Every week it’s like “hey so what’s happened since the last time we talked” and there’s always a whole new story because being a gym leader is so much drama.

Speaking of drama, there is absolutely drama among Piers, Raihan, Nessa, Gordie and Leon, and it gets 10x worse when Bede becomes a leader. The others stay out of it, lol.

No one can get any shit by Opal. She’s clearly very perceptive but she is also immune to people’s attempts to faze her. She probably saw the Darkest Day and was like “oh ha no big deal I’ve seen worse“

Face-To-Face: chapter 4

"Damn it Rai open up! It's been almost an hour!"

It has been a week since Keira had moved in and she thought she got the hang of Raihan's showering habits but apparently she was wrong. After a couple of more bangs the door finally opened and Raihan stepped out in nothing but a towel. His usual cornrows were undone and his curly hair was still dripping wet. Keira could feel the heat rising in her cheeks but she still kept her grumpy face.

"Well finally! Now if you don't mind, I need a nice cold shower."

She pushed past him as he chuckled and shut the door behind him as he walked out and to his room. Keira turned on the shower and set in after undressing and worked on washing her hair. She silently scolded herself for still getting flustered seeing Raihan half naked. Ever since she started living with him she learned quickly he loved walking around shirtless. The only time he really wore one was to go outside. She was pulled from her thoughts when she heard the bathroom door open. She had thought Raihan was just grabbing something he forgot but that thought was quickly proven wrong when he pulled back the shower curtain.

"Hey Keira did you-"

"Rai! I'm naked!"

"And I'm half naked and hungry now did you eat the last of the chips?"

Raihan ducked as a shampoo bottle was thrown at him.

"I bought more chips yesterday! Check the top shelf!"

"Oh sweet! Thanks babe!"

He closed the curtain and left the bathroom. She could feel her blush returning as she returned to washing her hair. After she finished her shower she dressed and found Raihan watching TV and trying to straighten his hair.

"Why do I get the feeling that you'll end up burning yourself trying to straighten your hair blind. Give me that, I'll do it."

Raihan grinned as he passed her the straightener. She worked on straightening his hair while he took a selfie.

"If you post that I might accidentally burn your ear."

He chuckled as he posted the selfie.

"You know you love me too much to do that."

She rolled her eyes as she finished straightening his hair and began redoing his cornrows. 

"It's your fault if tomorrow's headline on tabloid news feeds are "is Raihan seeing previous champion Keira?!" Because you know how your fans get."

He laughed because he knew she was right. The same day Keira first came to Galar there were rumors started that they were dating. 

"What? You wouldn't want to date me? I think we'd make a cute couple."

Keira snickered as she finished his hair and hopped over the couch to sit next to him.

"Let's be real, if I rated everyone I'd date it would be Piers, Leon, Nessa, Milo and then you."

Raihan gasped dramatically and clung to her waist.

"No way! There's no way Leon is better than me!" 

Keira laughed and swiped the remote to change the channel. She knew he wanted attention and the best way to tease him was to ignore him.

"Oh so Leon can't be better than you but Piers can?"

"Well yeah, it's Piers. Can't beat a bad boy musician."

Keira laughed harder because it was completely true. She tickled his side to get him to let go of her. Best part of Raihan walking around shirtless, it's easier to tickle him.

"Alright e-boy get up I'm supposed to meet Nessa and Sonia for a shopping trip."

"Ooh girl time, enjoy!" 

Keira climbed over the couch to grab her bag and headed out while texting Sonia she was on her way.

"So, how is it living with Raihan?"

Keira looked over at Nessa as she was looking for a new hoodie. 

"It's pretty good, the guy doesn't know personal space but I'm used to it."

Sonia giggled as she stepped out of the changing room in a floral sundress.

"That sounds like Raihan. Even when younger he never understood personal space."

Nessa nodded as she passed Keira a hoodie she thought Keira would look good in.

"I thought your plan was to look for your own place? Don't tell me he charmed you into staying."

Keira blushed as she tried on the hoodie. It was an eevee inspired hoodie with a fluffy collar and ears on the hood.

"Of course not, I am looking. It's just nice being able to see him face to face. I've known him since I was a kid and it's just fun being able to talk with him everyday instead of texting."

Nessa and Sonia gave each other a knowing look as Sonia pulled out her phone. She showed her phone to Keira which had Raihan's selfie on his rotogram.

"So that's not you doing Rai's hair?"

Keira raised an eyebrow at the photo.

"So? The dork was watching TV and trying to straighten his hair. I offered to do it so he didn't burn himself."

Sonia smirked.

"Raihan never lets anyone touch his hair. I've offered to do it to make it easier for him but he always says no!"

Keira blushed and pushed passed a giggling Nessa so she could buy the hoodie.

"Just because I did his hair doesn't mean anything!"

"We didn't say anything. You're the one making assumptions Keira."

Keira turned to look at a smirking Nessa.

"Don't you get all phycological on me. He's my best friend and nothing more."

Keira left the store with Sonia and Nessa laughing behind her. She was still hung up on what Sonia said. It had to be because Rai trusted her, that's why he let her do his hair, nothing more than that. Keira stopped in her tracks when her path was cut off by a group of Team Flare grunts standing in her way. Sonia raised an eyebrow at the group and tried to walk past them but was pushed back. 

"You're not going anywhere."

Keira glared at the grunts as Nessa took out one of her pokeballs. Inari, sensing Keira's agitation released herself from her pokeball and readied her wand.

"There's no need to fight if you just surrender your pokemon and come with us Miss Keira."

The group parted and from the group came a woman in a white suit with gold trimming.

"Who the hell are you?"

The woman ignored Sonia as she pointed at Keira.

"If you don't come with us we'll have to take you with us by force."

I went with a “few” headcanons for the year Leon himself went on the gym challenge with Sonia and Raihan, let me know if you want anything about the other gym leaders!

Raihan only had a few months on Leon, and both of them had a year on Sonia. Trapinch and Charmander had a blast when they’d pitch their tents and hang out, Trapinch especially loved digging holes and catching Charmander. They had a game they made of it, sometimes Flygon and Charizard still try to play it. Not as easy at their sizes.

Like Hop, Leon was constantly battling Raihan to see how well they were both learning. They almost always had very close battles that ended with Leon barely pulling the victory. There was a handful of times Raihan won, but those times usually came with a status effect that caused Leon’s pokemon to either faint or be unable to dodge Raihan’s attack.

Flygon and Goodra went on to become Gym Leader Raihan’s pokemon, and Goodra was caught as a Goomy shortly after Raihan received the Stow-On-Side badge. Leon caught Honedge before headed to the Spikemuth gym, and he has remained and become his Aegislash. Sonia’s Yamper had an everstone to keep it from evolving, and one of her other pokemon was a Yamask.

They battled Opal, though at the time she was obviously younger and sprier. Raihan struggled against her due to his team make up, until he decided to give his Amped Toxitricity a chance. He won against her in his fourth battle, and she commended him for the switch up. Leon struggled against the previous water type gym leader and Piers’ uncle, while Sonia didn’t really beat any gym leaders past Kabu’s predecessor.

Gordie is a few years behind them, so unable to go through his gym challenge that year. He watched their battles against his mother intently- especially Raihan’s. He was their biggest fan during the challenge and begged his father to take him to Wyndon that year to see the Champion Cup.

Leon steamrolled through most of the gym leaders, though as I mentioned, Nessa’s predecessor and Piers’ uncle gave him some trouble. Piers would be going on his challenge the next year, so he watched the battle and it was him to give Leon the tip to lead with Hitmonchan.

Their challenge year was the last year Raihan’s predecessor would be the Hammerlocke gym leader. Raihan was the last one to battle him before the kid that cheated, and they were still in the stadium when the incident happened. Piers had traveled to Hammerlocke with his mother a few days before they left Spikemuth, Raihan still had to battle his uncle first.

Raihan moving into action to calm down the terrified and confused Haxorus is a big part of why he was chosen to be the next gym leader. He wouldn’t take the place for a few years, but his swift action to stop more damage from occurring is what proved to the old man that he was the right choice. He was already being considered for how fierce he was in the battle.

Leon rocked the Champion cup, defeating the gym leaders once again with a battlefield authority that shook the Galarian Gym Challenge to the core. While two gym leaders were shaken by the incident, they used it to strengthen their resolve, and Leon still defeated them a second time, only to become Champion. It was his first sold-out match, and every single one has been the same since.

Leon’s Haxorus is the same one that was part of the incident. There was a huge debate about what to do with her, most people were calling for her to be punished for the casualties. Leon knew it wasn’t her fault, so the very first thing he did as champion- besides go home and take a nap- was to offer to take her. She became his pokemon, and her former trainer was forever grateful to him for saving her.

Sonia continued along with her friends as moral support. And to cook for them since Leon burned everything and Raihan was always too distracted playing with his team. Yamper and Yamask had a great time helping her cook.

Hello! Just popping by to ask about Calla! I've reread your oc post for the hundredth time now, and she just so interesting! Like what's her relationship with everyone and such. Not to mention she reminds me of Kipo in a way.( She seems the optimistic sort, not to mention insanely smart)

Also if you haven't, pls watch Kipo and the Age of Wonderbeasts. It's animated, but it has a good story and music. Majority poc cast is a bonus.

I have definitely watched Kipo and the Age of the Wonderbeasts, although I need to finish it (after I get done with studying for the MCAT, that test is *shudders*). I can definitely see Calla reminding your of Kipo they do have some similarities (there’s also one other champion OC of mine that has similarities to another Kipo character) Definitely putting everything under the Keep Reading tag because this is long.

Her outgoing, friendly nature is also very much in part due to the fact that as child genius she didn’t really get a chance to spend time with children her age as she went to college at 8. So she’s been kind of lonely and thus always eager to make a new friend. She can be a little too blunt with her words, but she’s aware enough to know when she might have crossed a line and will apologize profusely afterwards

Obviously her closest relationship is with Hop. Calla actually lived in Wedgehurst and not Postwick but Hop spent a lot of time Wedgehurst (because that’s where the primary school). They became friends over the summer at the berry shop and pretty much became joined to the hip when Calla wasn’t away at Motostoke University doing her chemistry degree. Hop (being a budding science nerd himself) enjoyed hearing from her about what she was learning in college and he would share stuff about Pokemon that he learned from Leon’s college textbooks. The two also bonded from being lonely with Calla being isolated from people her age because of being a child genius and Hop was ostracized for being Leon’s brother (in the fact of the kids in Wedgehurst loved Leon, but they found Hop annoying and only pretended to care about Hop if he mentioned something about Leon coming home). Calla was the first kid he met to be interested in Hop as a person, and not as Leon’s little brother so their friendship means the absolute world to Hop. They balance each other out as Hop is known to be impulsive and patient whereas Calla is far more cautious and deliberate. You would think given those descriptions Hop is the Sword Hero and that Calla is Shield Hero but it’s actually the reverse. Throughout their journey Hop and Calla learned the value of the way the other acts. Hop learns to be a little less impulsive (as his impulsiveness combined with his tendency to get flustered cost him many battles). Calla learned that’s okay to make bold decisive moves without meticulously planning them out which helped her in the long run against tough opponents (such as Rose who has a steel type team that walled her poison types or Leon who has a team fast heavy hitters that even with poison set up could still absolutely maul her team given the chance to do so) Also I should note Calla is not a Victor/Gloria stand-in. Victor and Gloria very much exist in my “Pokemon canon” but they were some of the fake friends to Hop who secretly thought he was annoying. Basically Victor and Gloria in my universe are those Pokemon fans who hate Hop and find him annoying. :(

Speaking of Leon, Calla of course was a fan of him from the start. She did get a little upset with him constantly keeping her and Hop away from the berserk Dynamaxed Pokemon, thinking that he didn’t think they were capable of helping out. Which wasn’t the case it’s just and this going into some of my broader personal headcanons, Leon and his cohort (Piers, Sonia, Nessa, and Raihan) were at the mercy of a jerk Champion (my OC Jack, the last champion on that OC Post). He didn’t want to take away from their gym challenge like what to happen to his. Of course once the Darkest Day and Sordward/Shieldbert arcs are over Leon and Calla ended up working well together as fellow champions and friends. As I alluded to in my oneshot Midnight Snacks (shameless plug) Calla has a tendency to be a night owl and if she’s stressed she’ll call Leon over to one of the battle cafe’s to have pastries and chat. Leon loves listening to her science theories (and yes he actually understands her rants on chemistry and toxicology) and Calla loves having a cool older brother she never got (she’s an only child). They also end up as in-laws when Hop and Calla get married at 23. Leon is also very protective of her, giving her less responsibilities than Rose gave him and helped to warm the public to her as some of them didn’t take too kindly to her using Eternatus in her champion matches. 

But in terms of the adult she most looks up to, that’d be Sonia. Strong battler (unlike in canon, we get to see why Sonia used to be Leon’s rival in my personal Pokemon verse) and a smart scientist lady. Calla was immediately awestruck by Sonia and always enjoyed her time talking to Sonia helping her with her theory about the truth of the Darkest Day. Sonia, Hop and Calla end up being the science trio once the SwSh events come to a close. Sonia was the one to encourage Calla when she becomes 18 (and has now held the title of champion for 5 years) to go back and pursue her PhD in Toxicology giving the Galar region their first ever champion professor! If Leon is the big bro she always wanted, the Sonia is definitely the big sister she always wanted. 

As far as the league goes, Calla is pretty much on good terms with everyone not named Klara. Klara choosing the poison type as her go to because it wasn’t as  popular as other types and she thought she’d have no competition in that realm. As someone who is very much passionate about breaking the negative stereotypes of the poison typing, she found Klara’s reasoning to be absolutely insulting.

When it comes to the league, Calla in particular is close to Marnie and Bea. You can often find Calla, Marnie and Bea hanging out together shopping for clothes or eating pastries at a battle cafe. Gordie, Nessa and Calla frequently have competitions to see who can do the best backflips or the best splits. It did take Calla a bit to warm up to Bede at first given how he treated Hop and how he almost wrecked her the first two battles (if wasn’t for her Stunky she would’ve been wiped by psychic trainer Bede), but they are kind of like how the player is with Gladion in SM/USUM. Not friends but not enemies.

Calla has mixed feelings on Rose and Oleana. Rose actually gave her a scholarship to go to Motostoke University when she was 8 (her parents wouldn’t have been able to afford it otherwise) so she’s indebted to him (he saw her as he saw Bede, Oleana, Leon- talents that can help the future of Galar). And on a personal level Rose was never rude to her. Oleana also kind of took her under her wing because of them both being science gals. But seeing how badly they miscalculated everything really shook her to the core. 

As far as my other champion OCs go, Calla gets along with everyone but Jack (but then again no one gets along with Jack). Calla and Marsha have a particularly close bond as Marsha taught Calla how to cornrow her hair and play spades (Calla was not blessed with parents who knew how to cornrow...or play spades). Marsha is another big sis for her. Calla and Jabari bonded over being type specialists (Jabari is a water type specialist) and Jabari taught her how to rollerskate in exchange for Calla teaching him how to do cartwheels. Calla was of course very interested in meeting Valen (a talking robot who’s a skilled trainer? that’s a dream come true for her). They delight in battling each other and eating Alolan Pancakes.
