💔 Is there a fic of yours that broke your heart?

Without a doubt, the Alternative Endings to Husk, in particular the Rayla ending.

Considering the tags, it’s not spoiling to say killing off a character isn’t the easiest, but considering everything Callum and Rayla went through in Husk, it was a particularly bitter pill to swallow. Which is why they are the alternative endings, rather than the “real” ending.

The sequel to Out of Time is also killing me, which is why its still in in first draft stage. And, like the Husk alt endings, this was really more how I saw the “real” ending, but I wanted to be nice to my babies. Someday I might finish and post it, even though I feel super bad writing it. They did deserve their happy ending, but, well, life doesn’t always work out, does it.

I am also going back and editing my dark magic AU in preparation for posting to AO3, and very lonely, touch starved Rayla is making me super sad. While I have been joking with people about her hugging rocks and the like, a long time in Rayla POV in most fics, but especially here is a sad place.

Thankfully, it will ultimately carry my favourite tag (angst with a happy ending).

🙋‍♀️ Do any irl people know you write fanfic?

My husband does (and technically my eldest, because she writes fanfic in her journal!) and a friend who also got back into his creative hobbies during the pandemic but that’s pretty much it.

🥺 Is there a certain type of moment or common interaction between your characters that never fails to put you in your feels?

I really love the little quiet moments between characters. So, someone knowing you almost better than you know yourself. Knowing that when the other is upset to give them space and a cup of tea or a hug, if that’s what they need right there and then. Or seeing a gift or something and knowing the other person would like it and getting it without thinking. Preparing a favourite meal or doing the laundry because the other person hates laundry.

It doesn’t have to be traditionally romantic, but, to me, doing those kind of things shows a depth of caring and understanding.

I do prefer love in the little moments over big, grand gestures. Love rooted in friendship, fondness, respect and admiration.

Tristan

Physical touch

Growing up pain was often associated with touch for Tristan so he grew up longing for soft hugs and gentle squeezes. Due to his bitterness and reluctance to be vulnerable, he has trouble expressing verbally what he feels so he prefers to do it silently through touch. This might also be why sleeping with Libby was when he first realized he had a crush on her and that this crush started when they stopped time together which required a lot of touch.

Nico

Words of affirmation

Nico needs verbal affirmation. He needs to be complimented and praised or he will not be able to function. Sure, he knows he's the best but it's very important to him that someone tells him that.

Callum

Physical touch

Have you seen how touchy this guy gets when he's manipulating Tristan and Parisa? He 1000% expresses affection through touch, especially when it's cannon that he's scared of manipulating people. His words are his best manipulation tactic, so when he's expressing care he does so through touch. He just wants someone to give him a hug🥺

Reina

Quality time

Reina isn't really into being touchy with others and certainly doesn't care for verbal expressions of love. She prefers to express she cares by hanging out. That's likely why she felt like she had gotten so close to Nico because they were always sparring together. And also why when she was mad at him she started not spending any time with him.

Parisa

Acts of service

It used to be physical touch before that became more like a job to her (and her brother's thoughts about her ruined it). Now, when she cares about someone, she'll do so by helping them. For example, allowing Nico into her mind so he can rest and warning Tristan about Callum (though that could've been her manipulating him to choose her over him I still think it's because she cared about him).

Words of affirmation

Libby gets very embarrassed when people tell her that she's done a good job. But she craves it, considering how much of a people-pleaser she is, she very much wants affirmation she's doing okay. She's also very anxious, so I feel like she'd be would second-guess other's actions if they expressed they cared through touch, gifts or anything more ambiguous that her anxiety could twist into something else.

IMHO, only Callum and Ezran fully comprehend the tremendous losses that Rayla has endured. I love Soren, but he and Amaya judged Rayla without seeking to know or understand why or think about the hurt and loss she went through. Which is not right. Even though I get what she did, it was wrong and they were calling her out because of how distraught and hurt Callum was. Even then, we've seen time and time again that Callum has and always will come to Rayla's defense. He has a right to be upset with what had happened, but he has never and will never hold it against her. He wants to show Rayla that he's completely different from her parents and wants to be her confidant, supporter, and devoted, loving ally. He's really the only one who has truly defended her.

Even though all 4 of her parents never, ever meant to cause Rayla any trauma or abandonment, even if they only had pure, good intentions, I know without a doubt that they're devastated, haunted and hurt by the painful reality of losing the bond and life they had with Rayla. Feeling unbearable guilt and regret for having failed and disappointed their beloved daughter. Yes, Rayla made a bad decision. But it came from a place of trauma. With Callum, Ezran, and Soren, they want to help, guide, and support Rayla by seeking understanding, showing compassion, and empathy for her situation. While giving her the confidence to truly grow, learn, and prosper in healthier, wiser ways.

I also truly believe the reason why Rayla's relationship with all four of her parents is severely stained and portrayed so negatively because there's no backstory, no development, no important flashbacks and no major focus/quality time spent with them. Like we got with Harrow and Viren. I hope that changes, even if it's a spinoff series about the Moonfam. Which I would personally love.

I genuinely hope that we get some resolution and development with the moonfam in S6. Because they deserve to have their daughter back in their lives. As well as sharing so many moments of them crying, hugging, kissing, and apologizing to their daughter for so many things. It's not gonna be easy for them to heal and reconcile with each other, but I have strong faith that they will overcome these obstacles. They need and deserve this so much more than anything or anyone. 🥺🥺😭😭❤️💜💙🧡

Seeing people crap on arc two Rayla genuinely makes me sad. I don't think many people truly realize the depth of Rayla's isolation. What happened to all the characters in arc one was horrible (I am not down playing that), Callum and Ezran lost their father, and Soren lost his family, but they all had Katolis to go back to. Their home. Rayla lost EVERYTHING. She lost the assassins who she grew up with and trained her, she lost her home, and worst of all she lost her parents. She lost Runaan and Ethari in one go, only months after her parents. And all she had to remember them by was what they taught her. And they taught her self sacrifice, they taught her to do questionable things in the name of protection and the greater good. Viren threatened everything she loved which WAS Callum and Ezran, and she thought he was still alive. She was stuck in fight or flight mode, she was bathed in trauma. And she had a point in TTM, everyone was just moving on, and didn't take or let her have anytime to truly grieve. She was in such a dark place in TTM and it influenced her decisions. She knows she did something wrong, she knows she hurt Callum. She hasn't brought herself to apologize yet, but why did we stop treating her as human? (Or elf, as it were)

“Charlie you came!” Charles hears the moment they step through the door of the small coffee shop. The warmth wrapping around them like a welcoming hug as they leave the ice cold outside.

I mean, I don’t think Callum would really react all that much, because he knows that. He knows what her mindset was in leaving, he knows she wanted to, he knows she felt like she had to, he knows why she left him behind. It just doesn’t make it hurt any less.

How does Charles come out to the club?

So Lance, after his own little wobble, is just so in love with the fact that Esteban and Lando researched so much about bottom surgery, and that they found a company owned by a trans man to get Lance's custome strap made so that it matches his skin tone, looks proportionate and that it even has a system that allows him to 'cum'. It makes him incredibly confident and happy, he loves that he can now end a scene with his 'cum' on Lando and it just feels good. He would definetaly talk to Callum about it during their meet ups because he just can't believe that there is something like this out there.

Callum appreaciates the strap (Lance tries it with him during a scene where Mick is handling Lando), but realises he is quiet okay with his body right now and it's a great feeling. He feels confident and sexy and he feels himself. He has stepped away from defining his gender by what body parts he does or doesn't have. He loves those meet ups with Lance, and going to support groups for trans people. It just reaffirms for him that he is who he is and no one can take that away from him, and he even makes friends with one or two more feminine trans men that do drag and understand exactly what happened with his wobble

As for Charles, they would come out to the during one of the meetings they have to check in with everyone and discuss business. It's just all of them gathered around long before the club opens with food Lance and Esteban ordered in and talking about schedules and different things and when Lance asks "Is there any changes to be made?", Charles who is cuddling with Max just stands up and goes "Yeah, I need my pronouns changed on my profile. I'm not comfortable with he/she so I'd like it if everyone referred to me using they/them because I'm genderfliud"

Everyone is so supportive. Lance is grinning and hugs him, he offers to let him join in on his and Callums talks because he knows that being gender-fluid can come with as much dysphoria as being trans does and they can support Charles. It makes Charles's eyes tear up. Seb hugs them and tells them that they're brave and he is proud of them, and everyone is just so sweet and loving, asking questions about whether Charles wants them to change the way they talk to him during scenes to be more gender neutral or if they want to be referred to in a certain way when they are feeling feminine or masculine or neutral

callum ends up getting lexi a little present that's just from him bc he's a nerd (and the LOOK ben gives him when he finds out, the man is just so in love) and he gives it to her when they're all together and he's so so nervous because he's still a bit insecure about being a dad figure to her, but she's so happy about it and she gives him a massive hug and then opens the present and it's a pink ukulele and a little notebook with her name on the front because 'I know you like singing, lex, so I thought maybe you could learn to play that and maybe you could write your own songs one day' and she's just so happy and gives him a massive hug then runs off to show lola and callum turns to ben and is like is that okay I know I should've run it by you first I'm sorry I just wanted to get her something and I thought Imit would be nice and ben just stares at him in awe for a minute because he's just how did I get this beautiful man and kisses him and just whispers thank you, I love you in his ear and hides the fact that hes almost crying in callum's shoulder until lexi comes back to open more presents I am soft 🥺

At the point only Este, Lando, Callum and his 2 regular clients know but he’s struggling with hiding it so one night when they’re having a ‘team evening’ (just a night where they all hang out, get food and drink and relax) he finally tells everyone.

He’s very nervous and is worried about their reactions but when Max comes over and cuddles him telling him he’s the best ever he knows there’s nothing to worry about

Lance would be so nervous to tell everyone. He considers them family but he's terrified to tell them. His coming out as a teenager wasn't a welcome one and there was so much hostility that Lance has just never felt the need to tell anyone that he was born the wrong gender.

He has so much support from Lando and Esteban. Esteban helped him through most of his transition and Lando has never seen Lance as anything but Lance. He knows the team will be supportive of him but it's still terrifying.

Telling Callum had taken so much energy. Lance knew it was a good thing that he told him because it helped Callum so much. It helped him as much as it helped Callum and that's what drives him to tell everyone because its the first time outside of his boys and a few clients that Lance has felt himself fully

So he tells Esteban and Lando that he wants to tell everyone. Lando just hugs him tight and Esteban holds his hand and tells him that they're proud of him and they love him and he should only do this if he's ready but Lance is

They invite everyone over to their apartment. They have food and drinks and it's fun and relaxed. It's just a normal bonding night for them to vent about clients or university and life outside the club and then Lance clears his throat and tells them. He explains everything from why he kept it hidden to how and when he stops he's just terrified that they're going to hate him

But then Max is hugging him, nearly crushing his ribs and telling Lance he loves and supports him. Sebastian is smiling proudly, as are the other older members of the club, Charles is there holding his hand and when he turns, Callum is watching him through happy tears and his boyfriends are both watching him proudly

It's hit Lance then that he might have started the club as a safe space for doms and subs, but somewhere along the way he created a family that'd love him unconditionally

My soft trio 🥺

Marcus would absolutely worry about how to dom Callum at first. He has dommed with Mick who is a switch. He has watched Mick dom Callum but Marcus is a little scared he will say or do somethign wrong.

Callum worries at first that this means that Marcus is here just for Mick, especially after they get together as a trio. He's done scenes with them both, but normally their is an experienced dom involced and Marcus tends to let them take the lead with Callum

Mick, forever the levelheaded one of the three of them, notices how nervous they are around each other and sits them all down. Outside of scenes, the three of them are all uddly and Marcus loves nothing more than having Callum in his lap as they make out but its just when they enter a possible scene that things get tense

Marcus admits after a few moments of gentle questioning that he's scared to say the wrong thing or misgender Callum. That he will mess up in the heat of a scene and say something triggering without meaning too and it breaks Callums heart because Marcus cares so much that he's scared to hurt Callum.

Callum would just crawl onto him and cuddle him. Reassuring him that Marcus would never intentioanlly harm him, and that they can start it slow with scening. Callum admitting he was a bit worried that maybe Marcus was supportive in theory of Callum being trans but that he figured out he wasn't attracted to Callum when he saw the scars or his body which has Marcus clinging to him because 'you and Mick are the most beautiful people in the world to me, and I want you two so badly. I'm just scared I'll mess up'

It gets better after that. Mick and Callum gently help guide Marcus through domming Callum, Lance (who Marcus and Mick don't know is trans) sits in under the idea that he's dommed Callum before and can show Marcus how to speak and react to Callum when he is feeling feminine without dismissing Callums identity

After Callums wobble, Marcus admits to Mick one day when Callum is asleep that this terrifies him because this is what he was afraid of at the begining, that he'd say something that hurt Callum and his view of his masculinity and gender and it hurts to see someone make Callum wobble (he even has a few nightmares that it was his fault which Mick helps him through, and later Callum hugs him tight because 'you were never like them even when you were afraid')

There was a frenzied knock on your door that put you on high alert. You grabbed the small dagger you kept by your nightstand as you slowly made your way to the front. “Violet, I know you’re in there. It’s me. Open up!”

You raced to the lock, trying to open the door as quickly as you could. “Rhodey, what’s wrong? What are you doing here?” you asked puzzled. You hadn’t seen Rhodey in two months. Not since that video call where you asked him where your brother was stationed and if he could connect the two of you together.

“Just got a call from Cap. The Cap. Says one of the jets went missing. And the flight chart says they’re heading straight here. Now, one Avenger wanting to see her dear brother, I can believe. But three more coming this way after your supposed ‘holiday?’ What’s going on Vee?”

Three? “I-I can’t. Rhodey, please don’t tell him I’m here!” you said holding onto your stomach.

“Him? Him who?” Rhodey looked down at your figure. You could see the wheel of questions turning in his head before he let out a breath a decided it would be better if he didn’t know. “You need to hide then. Now.”

“O-ok,” you nodded.

“Lock all the doors and don’t come out till either Callum or I get you. You got that?” He instructed. You nodded your head. Your eyes followed his retreating figure onto the Humvee and he sped off. You latched every lock and turned every deadbolt you could.

“It would be past midnight when we land in a half hour. Have you gotten any rest?” Bruce asked through the headphones in the cockpit.

“I can’t sleep, Bruce. Not till I know she’s all right.” Bruce simply nodded.

“We would need clearance. Just because we’re the Avengers doesn’t mean we can barge into an American military base without cause.”

“We do have cause!” Loki argued.

“Not one that’s important in the eyes of the government. Or sanctioned for that matter.” Loki huffed his annoyance. He is getting inside that base, and no one is going to stop him. “Let me speak with the Lt. Colonel in charge before you barge in, OK?” Bruce pleaded.

Not long after, the jet was given special permission to land inside the base. Bruce, Thor, and Loki stepped out to a small battalion of armed soldiers. Heavy artillery aimed at the three men as they walked down the gangplank. Their hands raised in surrender.

“Rhodey? What is all this?” Bruce asked as he made his way to Lt. Colonel Rhodes.

“I’m wondering the same thing, Bruce. I was in Germany when I was told to get my butt over here because you three would be landing here in a few short hours. In a stolen jet, no less!”

“Borrowed!” Thor corrected.

“I was also told that HE does not have the authorization to leave American soil, let alone New York,” Rhodes pointed to Loki.

“We’re looking for Agent Moreau,” Loki yelled out.

“And what makes you think she’s here? Last I heard, she went AWOL after…” a stolen beat. Silence had entered Rhodes’ mind as he tried to decide what to say.

“After what, Colonel?” Loki demanded. From the corner of his eye, Loki noticed someone familiar. The same large eyes and facial structure as Violet. Callum. Loki watched as he exited the vehicle he was sitting in to get a closer look. When he noticed who had arrived on base, he took a big sigh and slowly started to make his way back to the civilian row, where you were.

“Why do you need her? If she’s even here that is.”

“That is none of your concern Colonel,” Loki yelled.

“Rhodey we just want to speak to her and then be on our way,” Bruce added.

“She’s not here,” Rhodey said. “I suggest you get back on that jet and go back to New York, gentlemen.”

“Lies!” Loki yelled. “You know where she is. And so does he!” Loki pointed to Callum who stopped and froze in his escape.

“Colonel Rhodes, we mean no harm. All we want is to set some things straight with Agent Moreau. Then we’ll be on our way.” Thor tried. “Would you deny us council with one of our trusted teammates?”

“Uh-huh, sure. Bruce, what is this really about? Why did you bring the smash brothers here on my base?” Rhodey asked.

“What else would this be about Rhodey? Loki came here to talk to Violet. He risked his ‘parole’ so he could see her!”

“To talk? That’s why you, The Hulk, are here? And why Lord of Thunder is here too?” Rhodey said disbelievingly.

“Would you rather I not be here to look after my brother?” Thor said impatiently.

Loki had kept an eye on Callum. Watching him retreat backward ever so slightly. Go on rabbit, lead me to where she is, he thought. Loki watched from the corner of his eye, as Callum took off to warn Violet of his arrival.

“I will do what I came here to do, and none of you can stop me.”

“Loki,” Thor warned.

“And what exactly did you come here to do?” Colonel Rhodes yelled. Loki disappeared in a cloud of smoke and reappeared not too far away. Whenever he materialized he ran in between soldiers and avoided hits and gunshots before he would disappear again making it hard to catch him.

He followed Callum as fast as he could as he lead Loki down a small street with bungalows on either side. It was a small neighborhood of civilian housing for active-duty personnel and the families that stay with them. She’s here. In one of these houses. I just know it. “Violet!”

Soldiers gathered behind him. Bruce, Rhodes, and Thor leading the way.

“Violet! Violet, Where are you?” Loki yelled out. His time was short. He needed to find her quickly. By now he’s sure that the Colonel has alerted the Captain. In turn, he would’ve alerted Asgard.

“Darling, please,” his voice resonated throughout your body. Like the deep toll of a church steeple beckoning you home. You hadn’t heard his voice in months. You hadn’t felt that richness, the depth of pain and history. You heard the sorrow and longing in his timbre, and you ached to go to him and comfort him.

You shut your eyes, hoping that this nightmare isn’t happening. That it’ll go away if you squint just hard enough and not listen.

“Loki! I’m warning you to stop this instant or I will be forced to use drastic measures!” You heard Rhodey say.

“Violet!” Loki yelled as he passed your window. You looked through the slit of the curtains onto the street. Loki stopped and turned. As if he knew where you were. As if a rope was tied between you two and he felt it recoil, pulling him back to you.

“Loki Laufeyson. You are hereby under arrest for unlawful trespassing, violation of your parole in New York, and disobeying orders from your superiors.”

“I am a prince of Asgard and the rightful king of Jotunheim. I AM THE SUPERIOR!” Loki growled. You heard shouting and a scuffle ensue. If they weren’t careful, they could all get hurt. You know how strong a rampage Loki could get in if he wasn’t careful. All these people would be injured if you didn’t do anything soon.

“STOP!” you cried out banging the door open. “Stop! Please.” You saw a whole crowd of soldiers gathered around Loki, standing in the center. Their guns pointed in his direction. Loki’s outstretched arms ready for battle as his seidr smoked out of his hands.

“Violet…” he whispered. His eyes were tired and sunken. His cheeks had gotten sharper and more defined. He hadn’t been taking good care of himself and it showed. But even with all the grief and agony written on his face, he was still the most beautiful thing you had ever seen.

His eyes held onto yours as he watched you make your way through the crowd. A huff of relief escaped him, and he almost cried with joy at having seen your face again.

He noted how you had looked more radiant. More voluptuous as you made your way past the guards. There was a brightness in your eyes and a glow on your skin that he craved to touch.

Two things happened simultaneously. The first was your brother, Callum, holding his arm out to stop you from getting closer. As you reached the front, Loki took in your whole figure. Including the prominent bump that was now exposed for him to see.

The second was Colonel Rhodes using Loki’s momentary distraction to place magic-dampening cuffs on his wrist.

“Vi…Violet?” You could see Loki’s eyes, cold and confused. Thoughts flickered past his mind as he tried to assess what was happening. You were still pregnant?! But how?! “How?” His eyes squinted and his breath lashed as he watched you hold on to the precious life that was growing in your belly.

“Loki, you know the rules. You can’t just march in here like you own the place.” You could barely hear Rhodey and the monologue he was saying. He was reiterating what would happen if Loki were to ever step out of line.

You kept your eyes on Loki as his eyes darted up and down your body. “I’m sorry,” you mouthed to him as you started crying. You didn’t want him to find out like this. “I’m so sorry.”

The last thing that happened that night was something Loki didn’t anticipate happening so soon. He thought that he would at least have a day with you to reconcile. But The Fates work in more mysterious ways than he can foresee because the last thing Loki saw was you screaming for them to let him go.

“No! You can’t do that!” you screamed as your brother held on to you. “Let him go, please!” You began to sob.

More tears. More heartache. Loki had had enough. He didn’t want to see you like that again. He wanted to run to you. Comfort you. Tell you that everything was going to be ok.

But instead, a spectral light shone down on him, keeping him in place. Loki looked up confused. Everything was happening so much more quickly than he wanted.

Looking back down, he spotted you again in the crowd, “Wait for me. I’ll come back for you.”

“No, Loki. Please, stay. I’m sorry,” you cried. “This is all my fault. My fault,” you held on to Callum, trying to convince Colonel Rhodes. “Please don’t do this. Don’t let them take him.” Your breath hitched and hiccupped. The pain in your chest was all-encompassing and tearing at your heart.

“I love you,” Loki mimed before he was taken by the Bifrost, back to Asgard.
