Things that scare me as a gamer:

Jumpscares.

Item Decay and Hunger systems.

Using that one special unique item and hoarding all items until the final battle, but fully expecting it to be needed for a post-game thing so still refusing to use it.

NIS games' insane Level caps which last I saw went from 9999 to just shy of one hundred million (99,999,999).

The sheer amount of Pokemon and the expectation to "catch them all" (which is why I wasn't able to play Ruby/Sapphire and dipped from the mainline games until Black/White; I've given up on "catching them all").

Romhacks and fangames that include the entire series pokedex and attempt to cram in multiple regions. One fangame I can think of has almost every mainline region and a few bonus areas. God damn, even just running each area and doing each gym without encountering any sideplot with Evil Teams will be insane.

Dwarf Fortress.

The higher level "sanity meter" hits in Eternal Darkness. The high tier sanity meter were designed to rattle the player, like making you think the game crashed or you lost your save file.

Losing my save file regardless of the reason. Looking at you, Nier.

When the freeware build of OneShot crashed. Because in the original version of the game, this killed Niko. If Niko dies (ex: poison gas field without mask) or you closed the game outside of a save point, that's it. The game refused to let you continue playing.

I Wanna Be The Guy.

Games with time limits. This can be stuff like Majora's Mask clock/schedule system or something like Pikmin's 'daily' setup or any farming sim / social game where you have to make choices based on each day (ex: Harvest Moon, Stardew Valley, Persona, Recettear, ect)

Enemies similar to Tonberries.

And the reason I'm saying all this: the idea of fighting two giant tonberries.

does anyone have recommendations for the best way to get outside and move around a neighborhood with a chronic fatigue condition? i can't do a lot of walking, and biking is even more effort, but motorized scooters are typically $300-$400+ for something decent and aren't really an option either.

i just wanna get outside more for the benefit of being outside, and i'd like to play games like pokemon go and pikmin bloom while i do, but i'm not sure if there's a way to go about it. i can't really drive anymore and wouldn't want to use gas money on this, and driving is typically too fast anyway and messes with the games above.

any ideas would be really appreciated! 🙇‍♂️

I remember a while ago, I saw a post on the internet that contained the phrase "Sometimes you have to be a little mentally unwell to be mentally well." And I'm currently in a situation that I feel applies that phrase very well.

I had a bad breakup with a friend group not that long ago and it's sort of left me feeling lost and unsure of what to do. Today, I was just really in my feelings. I wanted to get out of the house but couldn't bring myself to. Outside of the short walks I take my dog on, I was effectively stuck in the house.

So boredom takes the better of me, and I download Pikmin Bloom. The Pikmin series is one I've been meaning to get into for a while now and someone on Reddit suggested to me that I play Bloom after I asked what Pikmin game I should play.

And guys- I really didn't think much of it when I downloaded PB. I played Pokemon Go when it was at its height, I had fun, but it definitely wasn't one of my favorite games.

Pikmin Bloom has become one of my favorite games.

This stupid, magical little game, where you can PLANT FLOWERS AS YOU WALK, and make friends with these weird little guys that go *Pikmin noise* is just- idk what it is. I genuinely smiled for the first time in what felt like days, because these bug eyed little things make me feel things.

I wanna walk more around my neighborhood now! Because instead of the stupid gyms in Pokemon Go, landmarks are FLOWERS THAT YOU CAN HELP GROW WTF THAT IS SO CUTE.

Pikmin Bloom helped me rediscover a whimsy within myself and the world that I thought I lost and I am both ecstatic and so annoyed about it. Now shut up cause now I wanna play the other games in the Pikmin series.

P.S. THE MUSIC IN PIKMIN BLOOM IS SO GOOD WTF. THEY DIDN'T NEED TO MAKE THE MUSIC FOR A STUPID MOBILE GAME SO GOOD.

What's your favorite game you played this year?

Pikmin in general hit me really hard this year. I finally played Pikmin 3 in anticipation for 4 after not doing that for, like, a decade for some reason and I really liked it! Pikmin 4 was great too! I also revisited the original 1 + 2 on Switch and they definitely show age (those final caves in 2 in particular, just dire), but they hold up pretty well. Strong recommendations on all those, 4's probably my personal game of the year though!

I hadn't realized the hundreds of hours I put into 2 as a kid would just have my brain reactivate after all these years with https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2yQJAGtk8X8 playing on loop in my head for hours after every play session and I had to, like, stop playing before bed cuz I was losing sleep, lol.

Also big shout out to J.J. MacField and Night in the Woods; shorter, emotional narrative games that I really enjoyed, but not necessarily for their gameplay.

Also don't wanna inflate your ego or nothing and I've already gushed about it to you on several occasions, but i did really enjoy Retrush! It has it's rough patches, but everything on my list does. Honestly, other than maybe Pikmin, probably the game that I most kept turning off, thinking that I was done, only to quickly start back up until it was 100% done. Which is really something considering it was on PC and not on it's own dedicated device. Very excited to see whatever other projects you get involved in!

My amount of gaming hours this year pales in comparison to last year, more varied though. For some of those lost hours I picked up a new hobby with pixel art and that's kinda related to gaming and I really like it, so special shout out to that too!

Actually, that's pretty much all the games I played this year that I hadn't prior to this year. Another special shout out to Metroid Prime Remastered which was also great and that this is among the years "least favorites" proves I played only winners this year!

...uh, what else did I play, lol... pokemon *anything*'s a given... Shanghai Pocket for the Gameboy Color!!!! (I got this one cuz it was cheap and I liked the cute pixel art you get to see after completing a level. Turns out you can be bad at Mahjongg).

Hi there! I don't watch anime/shows that often and there a good handful I've checked out, but one anime I often drew inspiration from is Rozen Maiden. Other than that, I usually pick series that have kickback-n-let-loose humor that I don't need to invest too much time for like Osomatsu, Pop Team Epic, or Asobi Asobase.

People wouldn't really find me talking much about it, however.

Those are the only two gachas I play. I play other mobile games, namely Pokemon GO and Pikmin Bloom because I love their AR casual-traveling aspects. I used to play Grimoire of Souls (totally legally) but I no longer have access to it despite its official release.

I prefer not to overload my phone without too much games especially since I already play two Niantic games. They're battery eaters.

Pick these Pikmin-like Pokemon for Pokemon Unite!

This post is being made very close to the release of Pikmin 4. As such, I'm going to celebrate the release with a poll and put in all the Grass Type Pokemon that just so happen to share some qualities with our favorite little troopers and see how they'd fare in a popularity poll, especially if it'll get them into Pokemon Unite.

Now, these comparisons are based on the typing of the pokemon itself, so it isn't quite exact, but they're close enough for me to consider them.

The comparisons to Pikmin with the pokemon on this list is only based on the typing and is otherwise superficial, though I did try my best. If you think other pokemon are better suited to the poll, don't be afraid to let me know.

Anyway, I know Ludicolo is already in the game as a Wild Pokemon, but nobody, especially the Pokemon Unite devs, has ruled out that wild pokemon can't become playable.

Also, I had to pick Victreebel for the spot of White Pikmin even though I know Roserade probably would've been the better choice. But given that it won the last poll it was in, I thought it would be too popular and draw away votes from the other pokemon.

Lastly, if you voted for Parasect, then you'll be happy to know that I did make a hypothetical moveset for the little guy a while ago. If you wanna see how it could play, give that post a read.

admittedly the main reason i dug up my wiiu was so i could emulate gamecube games bc i thought it was backwards compatible w the gamecube (it isnt INHERENTLY but i read somewhere that there is a homebrew app that lets you emulate gamecube games though 👍) it's mostly gamecube games. rn im really looking forward to playing metroid prime 2 and 3, pokemon xd and colosseum, killer7, pikmin, and paper mario thousand year door :] for non gamecube stuff im mainly excited to try playing splatoon 1 and modded botw! and im sure ill think of more stuff i wanna try out especially w wii emulation

as for the 3ds i mostly just revisited games i already loved like mh4u or the ace attorney series but for stuff i hadnt tried before i really enjoyed playing pokemon platinum renegade, kirby squeak squad, and steamworld heist :]
