midnight, no headlights // George Daniel- pt 1
content warnings: no smut (yet) but still some kissing so minors go away, drinking, swearing, smoking, awkward flirting and writing because I am not great at either! word count- 2500-ish
a/n: hiii so the vote came out that you didn't mind this fic being split up so, this is the first part! 2014 George has had me in a chokehold recently (thanks to @abiiors) so I had to write something for him!! this is part one of two and I have absolutely no idea when the other part will come out!! I actually kind of hate this but can't cope with it sitting in my google docs any longer. I've been in a massive writing slump lately and I'm really rusty, so if it's awful... be nice about telling me lol. anyway ill stop chatting shit now, here it is
Tumblr media
Another espresso martini, great. It seemed like all you had to do for this shift was make them for groups of obnoxious girls. To be honest, you were jealous they were able to go out and have fun on a Saturday night, you were stuck doing a shift at this shitty club for some band's afterparty. The shift started fine, a few pints here, a few ciders there but it had soon devolved into a sticky bar and overly complex cocktails with too many ingredients.
A tattooed hand stuck out from the crowd and soon the tall man attached to it wormed his way through and took a seat on the green barstool in the corner, from just his hand you had assumed you'd be getting another shitty beer but he defied all your expectations when you caught a glimpse of the rest of him.
A pile of badly blonde dyed hair sat on top of his head, either side was shaved. He had a sly look in his eyes but a gentle smile on his face, his features seemed hard individually but when you put them together you were left with a very soft look. His arms were exposed due to the white vest he was wearing, colourful and seemingly random tattoos snaked up them. You couldn't see his bottom half anymore but you caught a glimpse of his black ripped jeans, the outfit was nothing remarkable. In fact, it was kind of boring but for some inexplicable reason, he just looked fucking good.
His eyes had an alluring quality to them, pulling you in slowly. They were so alluring in fact, that whilst you were staring into them and walking over to him you tripped. Luckily, before you could fall on your ass in front of the only hot customer you've seen in ages, you caught yourself on the edge of the bar. His hand caught yours as you fell in an attempt to steady you, “Woah you alright darling? Thought you were meant to be sober on shift” he cheekily remarked.
His deep vocals sent a shiver through you, normally in a club like this you had to practically scream to hear each other but for some reason, it seemed like his voice was the only thing you heard. It sat at a different frequency that went right into your bones. You scolded yourself internally for fawning over a man who had said one sentence to you.
“Haha very funny, I’ll have you know I'm stone-cold sober. But I'm assuming that you're coming up here to no longer be that, so what can I get you?” you retort back smiling politely and leaning slightly into the puzzling man.
“I'll just have a vodka soda please sweetheart” he began but he soon looked around at the hoards of people surrounding him and quickly added, “Actually make that a double.” his correction caused you to giggle slightly. You briefly wonder what about the rowdy people made him change his order but decide not to ask and just begin making the drink.
The small cup of drink umbrellas teased you as you worked. Every time an especially manly-looking man ordered a drink you added a little umbrella, just to see their reaction. Sometimes they say nothing and just look confused but every once in a while, you get an especially good reaction. The best reactions are usually from self-described “gym bros” who are on a date, they scoff and act as if a small umbrella completely negates their manhood. It might seem juvenile, but you'll do anything to spice up a boring shift. You decide this mystery man with the “fuck me” eyes would like one so, you grab a teal cocktail umbrella and stick it in his double vodka soda.
“Here you are! A vodka soda,” you begin to hand the drink over, he reaches out but you quickly pull it away and correct yourself, “Sorry, double vodka soda” A smirk sneaks onto your face as you hand over the drink to the man. His face mirrors yours, a teasing smile overtaking his features.
"thank you, love," he smiles gratefully, going to take a sip but quickly recoiling at the sight of the umbrella in his drink. You think he'll scoff, throw it on the floor and call you a dickhead but no. he smiles, takes the small umbrella out and places it behind his ear, he finishes off the action with a wink and click of his tongue towards you.
A light laugh falls out of you at his action, not expecting him to be so cheeky about your little joke. He holds eye contact as he downs the rest of his drink, the action isn't inherently flirty but still, you feel a pulse thrum through you at the sight.
“Not such a good night then?” you remark. Despite having about 30 people you should be serving right now you remain enamoured by the man with the tiny umbrella behind his left ear.
“What gave me away huh? Chugging the drink or coming to hide in the corner?” he smiles, you can't help but feel slightly sorry for him, out to a cool afterparty on a Saturday night and he's choosing to sit in the corner and chat with the bartender.
It's then you make the decision you're gonna make this guy's night, in any way he’ll let you.
“Any reason you're hiding away? From a particular person maybe?” you ask leaning on the bar and staring at the man in front of you, “ooh are the band assholes? Wouldnt shock me if they were considering this afterparty, they're usually the overly cocky and handsy type when they party this hard” you add. The man across from you raises his eyebrows at you and his smirk grows marginally larger, you have no idea who you're talking to. And he loves that.
Soon the small amount of eye contact you're sharing becomes too much, you grab a rag and begin to wipe the bar in front of you. You figure you should at least pretend to work whilst talking to the curious stranger, still with the teal umbrella behind his ear.
“Oh no, not hiding from anyone specifically just everyone really. I was dragged here by a couple of mates but I'm hoping to make an escape soon.” he chuckled out whilst swirling the ice in his cup. Wordlessly you grab it from him and begin to make another drink.
“I won't give you an umbrella in this one handsome, not lucky enough to get two in one night” you wink at the man in front of you. The nickname slipped out thoughtlessly, you were used to flirting for tips so it felt like second nature to use them whenever you spoke. A light blush flushed your cheeks at your realisation, it didn't go unnoticed by the tattooed man.
“Handsome huh? Wow, do all your patrons get such good service?” he says looking at you whilst taking a small sip of the drink you handed him. A smile breaks over his lips as he realises it's another double, he briefly thinks of making a quip accusing you of getting him drunk but your bashful smile distracts his mind.
Your heart flutters slightly at his comment, hoping he would just ignore your slip-up. Quickly you rectify the situation not wanting him to have any more power over you than he already does, “Well when I don't know their names, yes.”
“Ahh, well nice to meet you..” he pauses briefly, indicating you to fill in the blank.
“I don't know about giving my name to a random customer… what if you're an axe murderer? I think I’ll keep that to myself” you smile, trying your best to mimic the teasing look in his eyes. The tall man opens his mouth to reply but before he can a voice comes across the bar.
“y/n! Will you stop flirting with that douche with the man bun and help? Im stuck making 25 pornstar martinis on my own!” your coworker chastises you.
You turn back to the noise of a cackle coming from the so-called “douche with the man bun” his laugh makes a mortified smile come across your features as you sigh and throw the rag you were holding to the bar in front of you.
“Calm down Tony! I'm coming you dick” you shout back in the direction of your coworker, only receiving an unimpressed glare back.
“Okay then, I'm going to work now and hopefully never see you again or I will die of embarrassment, bye douche with a man bun” you sigh jokingly at your conversation partner.
“Bye y/n” he replies with a teasing wave, you begin to walk away with your head hanging in shame but soon a loud voice from behind you catches your attention “It's George by the way, only my mum calls me douche with a man bun” he smiles cheekily, obviously proud of his comment.
In your hopeful final words to the now not-so-mystery man, you say, “Well it was nice to meet you George, may our paths never cross again” With a flourish you turn around and start grabbing ingredients to help Tony deal with the hoards of people.
Your paths did cross again, about 2 hours later in the smoker's area behind the bar. The cool air was just beginning to soothe your running mind when you heard an unmistakable voice ring out behind you.
“You got a lighter sweetheart?” he asks, the handsome man you now know as George comes to stand in front of you, with the same alluring eyes and smile but now with a cigarette hanging loosely from his lips. This was your first chance to look at him in full but you couldn't pull your focus away from the cocktail umbrella that still sat behind his ear.
‘Shit’, you thought, he asked a question and here you are just staring at him like a deer in headlights. Why is it that whenever an attractive man was within 5 feet of you, you suddenly stop acting like a human fucking being?
You cough lightly clearing your mind and your throat before silently passing over your lighter, he twisted it in his hand and admired the engraving on the silver case.
“All my love, A xx” he read out loud, “from a boyfriend maybe?” he cheekily asked before flicking it open, lighting his cigarette and taking a deep drag. You watched as his cheeks hollowed around the end of it, the deep contours of his face only becoming deeper as he breathed in the smoke. You weren't sure what it was but despite the fact you had met him not even 3 hours ago, you were comfortable.
That felt dangerous considering you weren't exactly known for thinking decisions through, especially after a few drinks.
As soon as Tony said you could clock out, you did. And then promptly had 3 shots of tequila minus the lime and salt. No time for that when you're trying to get drunk quickly. The mix of the alcohol running through your bloodstream and the enticing combination of cigarette smoke and whatever cologne he was wearing gave you the confidence to do what you did next.
“Nope, no boyfriend, you trying to sus out my relationship status Georgie?'' Once again the nickname slipped out easily, feeling like old friends already. He placed his arm on the brick wall behind you and leaned in slightly closer as if he knew what you were thinking.
“Georgie already huh? And what if I was darling, is that such an issue?” he drawled out, smirking slightly as he places the lighter back into your hands, holding them slightly longer than necessary. You were shocked at how warm he was considering it was 3 am outside a club.
“No, no, absolutely no issue,” you begin, leaning up into his face, eyes flicking down to his lips and back up to meet his unwavering gaze. His eyes soon followed suit, mirroring your actions back at you, staring at your lips longingly.
The closer you got the more sure he was, even placing his other hand behind your neck, but soon you swerve left and pluck the umbrella from behind his ear and lean back to place it behind your own.
A groan comes from the man in front of you as he places both hands on the brick wall behind your head, effectively caging you in, but you didn't mind. He looks down at you and can't help but smile at the overjoyed look on your face. The small umbrella sat behind your ear just like he had done earlier in the night.
“What a tease” he complains cheekily, leaning ever so slightly closer whilst protesting, almost as if he wasn't feeling that rejected after all. You used this opportunity to study his face closely. A very light stubble dusted his jaw. A small freckle sat under his left eye on his cheek, both of which were a rosy red from standing in the cold air with you. His hair sat crazily on top of his head but not in a messy way, in an effortless “I'm so cool and I don't even try way”. God, if he wasn't so attractive and nice, you would have to hate him.
All your staring wasn't lost on George, his ear tips going slightly red from the embarrassment of being analysed. Before he could look too bashful your drunk mind said the only thing it could think in that moment.
“God you are so beautiful,” you whisper, feeling as if you spoke too loud the air between you both would be disturbed. Just as George opened his mouth to no doubt correct you, you shoved your mouth onto his without a care in the world.
Despite you all but jumping on George, he adjusted quickly. The groan you let out at his lips on yours was hastily replaced by a shocked moan as he licked into your mouth. Despite his possibly rough looking exterior, his lips were soft and gentle as they moved over your own. It wasn't long before his hands were grasping your ass and you threw your own around his neck.
George pulled away and you whined at the loss, he breathlessly giggled at your response and asked, “You live round here?” you quickly nodded, desperate to keep kissing you but just as quickly as you leaned in you shot back and threw your head back against the wall and groaned frustratedly.
He threw a questioning look at you and you swiftly told him your issue, “My place is only about 10 minutes from here,” he began to look hopeful but you shot him down, “But my roommate has her boyfriend round tonight and I've been given very clear instructions to come home and go straight to bed. Absolutely no disturbances allowed. And I'm pretty sure a 6ft man called George is a pretty big disturbance” You patted his chest dejectedly as you finished.
“Firstly,” George spoke holding one finger up, “I'm 6ft 4 thank you very much.” you giggled lightly at his insistence to get his height correct. “Secondly, we can go back to my place it's a bit… strange. But it's got a bed so?” he asked with a questioning lilt to his deep voice.
He waited with bated breath for your answer, hoping you wouldn't as too many questions he can't answer but all you said was, “Call the Uber” before attacking his lips once again.

Sunsets and My Week in Unplanned Meals
I really had no idea what to write about this week so per usual checked my photos for inspiration. I couldn’t spin them into a blog post of their own, but wanted to share these cool sunset cityscape photos that I took this weekend. The first one was taken in Bellevue on Saturday and the second was taken in Redmond on Sunday.

While I didn’t emphasize this in last week’s post about my Sunday meal prep, I typically prepare nearly all of my meals and plan out what I’m going to eat at least a week in advance. While it’s normal for me to adjust things, this week was a bit different in that my meal plan was mostly created retroactively. Nonetheless, I still find creating and having a meal plan extremely valuable. On Tuesday and Wednesday, I participated in Aspire Start Strong and was provided with breakfast and lunch on both days. (Microsoft Aspire is a two-year professional development program for new grads and Start Strong is one of the signature events). Going into the event I knew breakfast of some sort would be provided, but wasn’t sure about lunch so packed lunch the first day just in case (which ultimately became my dinner). Sidenote, my favorite part of the program was learning communication skills from magician Vinh Giang. On Wednesday evening, Start Strong concluded with a social. While a full dinner wasn’t provided, after eating four sliders and some other appetizers found that I no longer needed to make the dinner I’d planned to.
Tumblr media
Then on Thursday, Office Product Group had our demo fair and brought in food trucks. I’d already eaten lunch (a meal-prepped rice bowl) but was able to take home some delicious pulled pork and baked beans for dinner. To be clear, getting all of this free food is not at all representative of a normal week. Unlike some other big tech companies, Microsoft doesn’t provide us with free food. We do for some reason have unlimited free beverages, but I’d much prefer free snacks.
On Friday, I attended a happy hour at Outer Planet Brewing organized by fellow OneNote folks. While the date had been set last week, the location had only been finalized a few days prior to the event. One thing that I really appreciated about this brewery is that they actually let you sample things that are on tap. I consider myself to be a cider person and typically find that I really don’t like the taste of beer. However, I was surprised to find myself ordering the sour beer (Janus The Two-Faced Gose) after sampling both the sour beer and the plum cider. On the way back to the eastside, the folks I was carpooling with and I made an impromptu stop for tacos at El Rinconsito. The tacos were pretty tasty and actually reasonably priced unlike most of the food around here.

For the first time in my personal history as well as in our history together as a couple, I attended back to back days at the Bite of Seattle. We attended back to back days at the Bite of Seattle and, just like the first of those days, we got in a bit of adventure along with a massively good time on the second.
Why?
Because Midnight High.
Because of Midnight High performing 1pm at the Fountain Stage, the day after The Little Lies performed on that same stage.
We only saw them once before and I think they only performed live once before at The Sunset Tavern n Ballard. They are brand spanking new, this band
Now our Sunday was a bit of reprise of Saturday's drive to / park at / light rail from Northgate / monorail from Westlake / to land at the Fountain Stage at the Bite of Seattle. It seems we left the house about the same amount of time before the show yet, despite a bit more driving around for a parking spot (finally got into a paid one ☹️), we landed at the Seattle Center an hour out in front, enough time to grab a meat pie and a fried chicken sandwich in the Center House and then sliiiiide over to the beer garden next to the Fountain Stage V.I.P. area for a peach hard cider and a raspberry ale we savored under the noon-day sun with the Space Needle looking down on us by the fountain.
Afterward, as the band settled into their first song, Avenue, we sat down on the grass in front of the stage and experienced Midnight High on this lovely summer day.
The first time we saw Midnight High perform, it was onstage in the back of Sunset Tavern. We were standing pretty close, so we were immersed in the performance, the lush vocal layers, that certain 80s sound transcribed through modern synthesizers, the crisp bass lines and lead guitar colors, the drumming that, more than usual, stamps each song with character, and finally the lead vocals saturating the music with a joyful retro smoothness.
I know I know. You really do have to hear it for yourself.
There's a ton here for our ears to appreciate.
So that was our first experience: indoors and up close.
Yesterday, it was outdoors sitting on the grass. A thoroughly different experience. Because in the context of a sunny summer's day, the music of Midnight High takes on a wonderful additional layer, one that adds elements of fun and delight and good times with friends. Or, in my case, a lovely afternoon with Kimmer.
And yeah. You do have to hear it for yourself. There's a lot going on in this band that goes well beyond pure instrumentation.
As a reminder to myself (but also in case you're interest is piqued), Midnight High's first album will hit the streets Saturday August 19 with an album release party at the Sunset Tavern. Tickets available right now, this very minute, at www.ticketweb.com.
So.
For the first time in my personal history as well as in our history together as a couple, I attended back to back days at the Bite of Seattle.
We did back to back days at the Bite of Seattle and, just like the first of those, got in a bit of adventure along with a massively good time on the second of those.
Why?
Because Midnight High.

A/N: HELLO EVERYONE! First of all, I would like to thank you for the response you gave the preview I posted last night. Hopefully this will do it justice. Thank you so much again for all the support you have given me! Kind of went overboard and it was much longer than I expected. Enjoy this new multi-part series!
Anon:  I don't know if this is too specific but could you do something about Angel ruining a date and later admits it because he loves them and then they have some angry smut and late night fluff

Your Tio Obispo was so lucky you love him. There was no bone in your body that wanted to go to a clubhouse party. All you wanted to do was stay home and sleep. He was lucky you decided to come even after going home to shower and change. You parked just outside of EZ’s trailer, not wanting to draw attention if you had gone all the way in.
It was a good night to host a party. The weather was quite good, not cold and not scorching hot. You didn’t wear anything special, just jeans and a shirt. It was a Barbeque, you didn’t need to wear anything crazy.
Walking in with a few other people, you made your way towards the clubhouse, but before you did, you spotted Angel sitting by the bonfire with a club hang around on his lap. For some reason, you’ve never seen him with any of them before and it definitely hit the point home that Angel would never be interested in you. He seemed like the type of guy who couldn't hide his feelings and was straight forward. Only thing he did with you was keep you company while you’re at the clubhouse and text you every now and then. You were certain that the only reason he hung around you was due to your tio’s request.
Pushing your glasses up the bridge of your nose, you entered the clubhouse in search of your tio. If you showed your face once, you could hide at EZ’s trailer for an hour or two and then head home. You’re pretty sure he’ll be wasted soon enough.
“Sweetheart,” you heard your tio call you. He just came out of Templo with Taza following after him.
“Tio, hey.” You wrapped your arms around Bishop once he was close enough to you.
“Glad you came, I thought you were just going to stay home, knowing how lazy you get.”
“Haha,” you rolled your eyes. Your relationship with your tio always seemed to be more brother-sister like than anything else. Your mother was much older than your tio, when he used to take care of you, he would teach you how to fix cars, change your oil, etc. He was the cool tio, but you still had that boundary and never overstepped it. “I wasn’t going to, but I didn’t want you to send your security after me.”
“It would most likely be Angel.” Bishop knew of Angel’s crush on you, it was hard not to notice. He always volunteered to do things when it came to you. At first he thought Angel took a liking towards you since you were new in town and he felt naive that he even thought that, but it became very apparent why he was always nearby.
“Yes, my own personal bodyguard.” You nodded your head. “Who is enjoying the women today, which works out for me so I don’t have to worry how much I bore him.”
“I don’t think you’re boring.” Bishop frowned. He knew it was difficult for you being an only child and with how overprotective your mother was, he was surprised that you didn’t want to choke her out at times. You yearn for freedom and he was certain it was the primary reason you chose to stay put in Santo Padre.
“Tio, it’s a joke, I know I’m not. But maybe you could rotate some? Angel doesn’t always have to be the one attached to me.” You two walked over to the bar, EZ manning it as always. “Give Angel a break.” EZ placed one of those ciders you liked drinking, mouthing a thank you.
Bishop was perplexed at your suggestion. He knew why Angel was always around you and he thought you knew as well. Angel was always around you, surely you had to take the hint that he had felt something towards you.
“What? Angel goes to you on his own accord. Contrary to popular belief, I didn’t actually sic any of them on you.”
“Oh,” you gnawed at your lip, a habit you developed when you were unsure of what to say or do. “I, I just thought you had Angel attached to me.”
“So that I can get an earful from you? No fucking way.” Bishop chuckled. Maybe at the beginning he did have Coco keep an eye on you, but otherwise, it was Angel’s own doing that led him to you.
You smiled as you took a sip of your cider. You didn’t want to drink much since you had to drive home. The cider didn’t have much alcohol content so you weren’t worried.
“Don’t cause trouble, I’ll grab you some meat.” Bishop left you to your own vices. He was very overprotective, but he tried not to be as overbearing as your mother. The last thing he wanted was for you to push him away.
“Where’s Angel?” EZ questioned you once Bishop walked away.
You shrugged. “Outside? He’s not on babysitting duty for once so he’s with one of the girls.”
EZ knew that Angel most likely didn’t know you were coming. Angel was definitely interested in you, but getting one in every once in a while wouldn’t hurt either. Angel was no angel after all. He had needs, they all did and it’s not like you two were official and from what he could see, it was one-sided, on Angel’s side.
“Aw, you know you’re not so bad either, besides the fact you can be an annoying smart ass.”
“Right back at ya Boy Scout,” you lifted your drink toward him, making EZ laugh.
“Y/N, hey,” you heard someone greet you.
Looking back, you saw Damien, who worked with the club from time to time. You weren’t exactly aware of what the affiliation was, but all you knew was that he was not a member of the club and was running some business.
“Hey, how are you?” You greeted him, turning so you could face him. “I rarely see you at these parties.”
“I come all the time, you’re always preoccupied by someone else.” Damien teased. “Glad you’re all alone so that I can have some of your attention.”
EZ wanted to gag at that. This guy was a quintessential douchebag. He lured girls in with his charm and usually disposed of them once he had them. The club worked with him before, but as far as EZ knew, they were no longer in business together.
“Attention? You can always come up to me, not like I bite.” You joked. You tried to recall if you ever saw Damien at any of these parties, but you were always with Angel. Hard to look elsewhere when you were with him. “Don’t worry about these guys,” you pointed at EZ. “Completely harmless.”
“Not my brother though,” EZ mumbled under his breath.
“What was that?” You turned to EZ, not quite heating his words.
“Nothing.”
You turned back to Damien. He was a good looking guy. Six foot two, muscular built, with slicked back brunette hair and hazel eyes. He was a definite eye candy.
“Are you busy next week?” Damien had to leave since he had promised his mother that he would drive down to Chino for some quality time.
“Um, depends when, I mostly just have work.” You tried to think of your schedule at the top of your head. You worked at the auto repair shop four days a week and the other days, you were at home doing orders for cakes, brownies and other baked goods.
“Saturday?”
“Should be fine, I get off work at 7, what’s up?”
“Would you like to go to the fair?”
“What?” You and EZ said in unison.
You and Damien both looked to EZ confused by his reaction.
EZ wished that Angel was here to stop it, if he even tried to stop it, people would misconstrued things and maybe this would be the fire under his brother’s ass to push him to do something.
“Sorry, Coco was mouthing something to me.” EZ looked across the room at Coco who was thankfully looking at him. He made some gesture at Coco who gave him a confused look. “I’m just gonna go see what he wants.”
You two watched him walk over to Coco, still confused by his reaction.
Damien knew why he reacted in that way and he should get an answer from you immediately before they reported to Angel. “Anyway, so, you down?”
“Are you asking me out on a date?” You haven’t been on a date with anyone at Santo Padre. Maybe it was a lack of trying on your part, but regardless, the dating scene in Santo Padre was nonexistent. You didn’t want to assume either, but it seemed like he was.
“Yes. If you want to go?” Damien knew if he fucked up, he would be six feet under. Despite the rumors, he was trying to be a decent guy and truly wanted to show you a good time. Just a plus if he scores afterwards.
“Sure, I’d love to go on a date with you.” You were kind of excited. This was your first date in years, but you kind of wished it was Angel who was asking you. Then again, you weren’t his type, so, why not explore the field?
“Everything good here?”
You thought you were hallucinating his voice, but you weren’t. Right behind Damien was Angel, holding a plate of food that you assumed was yours.
Damien turned around and backed away to the side. He was slightly afraid of Angel after seeing him fight a few times in the ring. He knew Angel was some sort of watchdog for you however, seeing the last few times you two were together, he was almost certain Angel was interested in you.
“I was just talking to Y/N. But I got to go, so I’ll see you both later.” He placed his empty beer on the bar. “See you next week?”
“Yes, see you next week.” You nodded your head, offering him a small smile.
Damien quickly made his exit. Angel’s eyes were trained on you, not paying any mind to Damien. He wasn’t sure why Damien was speaking to you, but it didn’t matter, he was leaving.
“Querida, why didn’t you tell me you would be coming? I could have picked you up.” As far as Angel knew, you weren’t coming to the party. You texted him that you were swamped at work and all you wanted to do was sleep.
You really hated it when Angel spoke in Spanish, it made the butterflies in your stomach run wild and it was just annoyingly sexy. “I wasn’t, but tio wouldn’t let me say no. Something about not wanting me to be alone.”
‘I could keep you company.’ Angel thought.
“Here, I brought you food.” He placed the plate in front of you. “I marinated the ribs.” He proudly informed you.
“You are pretty good with your meat.” You paused. You two looked at one another and smirked. “That’s what she said.” You and Angel said in unison, laughter erupting from the both of you. “You don’t have to keep me company, I’m going to take my food to EZ’s trailer, kill two hours and then go. At least I showed myself and tio doesn’t have to give me flack for not coming.”
“I’ll stay with you.” Angel was entertaining someone earlier, but as soon as Bishop informed him that you were here, he made his way over to you.
“Don’t be silly, I saw you talking to a girl earlier, just go back to her.” You tried your best to not sound bitter or jealous. You really hated that you weren’t Angel’s type, but it was the story of your life. Bad boys don’t go for the good girls as they believe in movies and television. They befriend them sure, but nothing else. “Get your dick wet.” You wanted to cringe at that one, but you always spoke to Angel with no filters, yet you couldn’t tell him you like him.
“I’m good, I’ll stay here.” He grabbed some fries that were on your plate. “I may have gotten the food for both of us.”
You laughed. “I was hoping so because I don’t think I eat this much.”
“What did pretty boy want?” Angel took the seat beside you.
“Damien? He asked me out on a date.” You took some fries and ate some as well. You mentioned it so casually that Angel took some time to reply to you.
“He did what now?” Now he was on his shit list. He had no claim on you, he knew that, but that didn’t mean he was happy about this. To top it off, now it made sense why Damien was always watching you, but he stayed away since Angel was always around. The one time he left you alone, Damien was able to slide in. Where the fuck was EZ? He knew his little brother manned the bar, he should have prevented it.
“Right? It’s kind of unbelievable, but yeah, I guess we’re going out next Saturday.” You shrugged and ate some of the carne asada on your plate. “It’d be nice since I haven’t been on a date for a while.”
“Wait, why is it unbelievable?” You haven’t been on a date in a while
“I don’t know, no one has asked me out around here, figured it was cause I was so unattractive.” Self esteem issues were a bitch. It was hard not to think that something was wrong with you when men didn’t ask you out.
“Mi dulce, you’re the most beautiful girl I know, don’t ever think that.” Angel placed his hand on top of yours.
You felt your cheeks hit up and the butterflies in your stomach just went berserk.
“You’re such a sweet talker.” You moved your hand and turned to the food so you could start eating.
Angel loved seeing the blush on your cheek. He liked knowing he had some sort of affect on you, especially since he was fucking in love with you.
Yep.
Angel Reyes was fucking in love with the president’s niece.
It wasn’t his fault. It really wasn’t.
You barged into his life and there was really nothing he could do.
He was powerless against you and he honestly didn’t care.
=====================
“This is fucking stupid.” Angel heard EZ complaining at the backseat of the van. He was driving with Gilly at the front passenger seat and Coco behind him.
“No one asked you to come Ezekiel.”
“Asked me to come? You fucking forced me in the car.” EZ scoffed. “No choice Boy Scout, you do as your sponsor says.” EZ rolled his eyes, mimicking Angel’s words. “What does this have to do with club business?”
“Feel like we wouldn’t be doing this if Angel grew a pair and spoke with his dick like he always did.” Coco shook his head.
But that’s the thing, Angel couldn’t listen to his dick with you.
This was different.
You were Bishop’s niece, he couldn’t exactly go guns ablazing. He stayed away from you cause you were related to Bishop, keeping you at arm's length. But it was so difficult to keep you at arm's length when you were so damn charming. You didn’t even do much. You hooked him with one smile and he was fucking done. He felt like an idiot, like a teenager boy with a crush, but all you had to do was fucking introduce yourself. Bishop brought you by when you first moved two years ago. His sister, your mother, wanted to be close to her baby brother, so she decided to move to Santo Padre. But your mother was only able to stand the heat for so long before she went back to Oakland. You stayed behind, liking the work you found at one of the auto shops down the street from the scrapyard. It was owned by one of Bishop’s friends. Due to the closeness of the shop and scrapyard, you were always around and it was difficult to ignore you.
“Why haven’t you told her you like her?” Gilly questioned. “It’s not like Bishop doesn’t know.”
“He doesn’t think he’s good enough for her.” EZ answered for him.
“Fuck you Ezekiel.”
“Angel, what makes you so incompatible with her?” EZ hasn’t been around long, but even he could see his brother hung onto every word you said. It was actually quite fun to see. Whenever you were at the clubhouse, Angel stuck to you. No girls, no shooting his shit with his brothers, nothing else caught his attention. Whenever you would talk about the new cookies or cake you baked, Angel listened. Whenever you animatedly talked to him about the new car you fixed the last few days, he listened. He didn’t give a fuck about the baked goods or the cars, all he cared about was listening to you. It was cute. You were the good girl that the bad boy wanted, EZ had to say you weren’t Angel’s type, but you had his older brother hooked. “She isn’t your usual type, but I figured you dabbled in every pool.” He knew his brother felt more for you than any other women around. But he could never pass up a chance to tease Angel.
“My type, the fuck is that supposed to mean?” Angel looked at his brother through the rearview mirror.
“She technically is his type, she has a pussy.” Gilly joined in with teasing Angel.
“Don’t talk about our hermana like that.” Coco scowled at Gilly. “Y/N is special, she’s a good girl, untainted. Angel doesn’t do good girls cause they want commitments, something he can’t offer.”
“I’m fully capable of holding a relationship assholes. I was with Gabriella for like,” he paused, knowing his argument was not going to hold. “Fuck, how long was I with her?”
Gilly and Coco laughed loudly while EZ chuckled, shaking his head.
“You see? Come on Angel, if you’re not serious about her, let’s just turn around.” EZ was trying to use reverse psychology on his brother. He knew Angel hated it when people doubted him, counted him out. Maybe if they pushed his buttons a bit, he would get with the damn program.
“We’re not going for her, I don’t even know where she is.” Angel scoffed. He was lying, but these fuckers didn’t need to know that. “You fuckers don’t want a night of fun at the fair?”
“At the same fucking fair that Y/N is going to?” Gilly was amused. It was fun to see Angel head over heels over a woman.
“Oh, that’s the one she’s going to?” Angel smirked. He was a bastard, he knew, but he got the details of your date from EZ. He should have pulled his head out of his ass long ago, but Damien was a punk. He portrayed himself to be a good guy, but he was a perverted douchebag.
“I feel like you could have saved us the trouble.” EZ scoffed. “Angel, what’s your game plan? What are you going to do? Just listen to her like you always do and not say you like her?”
“When we get out of this car, I’m beating your ass.” Angel threatened.
Coco, Gilly and EZ laughed. If they were being honest, they tagged along to see what the fuck their brother was going to do. It was like uncharted territory for Angel. He went for easy girls who fell at his feet, they were easy, noncommittal, easy to leave. But you, that’s not how it worked, which made him out of his element. He’s had relationships before, but this was different. You two weren’t even together but he saw your future together. It was the reason he avoided you. Seeing a future with someone was daunting on anyone but for Angel? The guy who didn’t think he would ever find someone? It was something else.
When EZ came home, he thought you would drift to EZ, you like books as much as he did, fuck you two had a hell of a lot more in common than you and Angel. But instead you two bantered like siblings and it was an actual amusing site to see.
“I don’t even know why you like her, she’s obnoxious.” EZ didn’t actually mean that, but you were the sister he never fucking wanted. He couldn’t even imagine how Angel fell for you, you definitely were not his fucking type. But his brother could have changed in the last eight years, like becoming an actual mature adult, he has still yet to see that.
“Watch what you say about Angel’s girlfriend.” Gilly looked back at EZ. “Oh wait, she’s on a date.” The three men laughed with the exception of Angel.
“Funny shit, fuck you three.” Angel grumbled.
Angel was relieved that they got to the fair and parked the car just so he didn’t have to be in the car with these assholes.
Getting out of the car, Angel smoothed out his kute and made his way towards the entrance of the fair with his usual three partners right behind him.
He wasn’t going to ruin your date, but he had to make sure that Damien kept his hands to himself.
=====================
You giggled as your date, Damien finished telling you a story about his silly dog. You were so happy this date was going well, especially since you haven’t been to one in years. You decided to wear your contacts today in case you and Damien decided to ride some of the rides.
“You should meet him some time.” Damien commented as you two walked side by side.
Your hands were in your jean pockets and Damien has been trying to hold your hands, but you just kept it in there or if it was in there, your arms were crossed. He also wanted to make sure you were comfortable before he did anything. He knew that if even a hair on you was harmed, the MC would come looking for him.
“Your dog? Yeah, that would be great. I love dogs.” You always wanted a dog, but your mother was not the biggest fan. You’ve been thinking about getting a dog, but you just haven’t found the right one as of yet.
“German shepherds are very intuitive and they’re great dogs.”
“They definitely are.” You nodded your head. “So, can I ask you a question?”
“Sure.” You two were waiting in line to get some funnel cake, thankful that not that many people were here so you can get to the sweet treat faster.
“Why did you ask me out on a date? Don’t get me wrong, we’ve met, but you haven’t exactly spoken to me.” It was always a short pleasant conversation between you and Damien. A quick hello, goodbye, how are you’s and he was on his way. It’s not like you thought you were some horrendous looking person, but it just made you wonder why it took him so long to ask you out.
“I’ve always wanted to, but your uncle can be quite intimidating and Angel basically put out word that you’re untouchable.” It was true. He was warned off by Creeper that you were off-limits. At first he thought it was Bishop, but it became more apparent it was Angel. Any man who approached you during club parties was immediately turned away by Angel. At first he wasn’t certain if Angel was acting on Bishop’s orders, but when he noticed that Angel, who usually was surrounded by women, didn’t pay attention to any other woman but you, he knew then that it was Angel’s own doing. He asked himself why he asked you out knowing Angel would hunt for his blood, but as he saw it, you were single and were free to do as you please.
“Angel?” Your heart quickened a bit and for some strange reason, you heard his voice as well.
“Querida,” it was Angel’s favorite term of endearment for you. At first you thought he called everyone that, but it seemed that it was reserved for you as of late. You knew it was his way of being charming, but you couldn’t help it when your heartbeat quickened cause of it.
You turned around and found Angel and his usual suspects with him. His eyes roamed over your body and you couldn’t help, but blush. Angel’s eyes were always so intense, yet warm. He noticed your glasses weren’t on and he thought how much better he liked the glasses on you.
“Angel,” you said in some sort of disbelief. “What are you guys doing here?”
“We came to enjoy the fair, surprised to see you here.” He looked over you and at Damien, narrowing his eyes. It was his warning to him. He may have passed by him once, but it wasn’t going to happen tonight. “Damien.”
“Angel.”
The greetings were curt and you could feel the tension rise. You were still confused at Angel’s presence, but it showed you one thing, the butterflies didn’t come till Angel came. Your mother always told you that when the butterflies in your stomach fluttered, whoever did it for you was someone you would be someone special. Your mom was a die hard romantic person. You weren’t exactly all that romantic, but you definitely didn’t believe in fairy tales.
“Y/N, you wanna go get some ribs? I just realized we haven’t eaten.” Damien had to get you away before Angel could sink his claws and interrupt your date.
“Sure.” You looked at the three troublemakers behind Angel, giving them a questioning look and the three stooges fucking shrugged at you.
Damien attempted to lead you away, but Angel grabbed your arm.
“We’re all here together, we might as well stay together. Right querida?”
You opened your mouth, but nothing was coming out. You were enjoying your date, but seeing Angel changed the atmosphere. You couldn’t play this game. Damien was genuinely interested in you and you wanted to give him a chance. You weren’t even sure where you stood with Angel, it doesn’t matter anyway.
“No, it’s okay, Damien and I are going to get ribs. Enjoy your night guys.” You gave each of the Mayans members a hug and when you got to Angel, you tried to make it brief. You hated hugging Angel, he was always so intoxicating. If you lost yourself in that hug it was a done deal.
Grabbing Damien’s hand, you dragged him away from the group. You were going to continue and have fun, fuck Angel Reyes.
“Wow, that went well.” EZ commented. He couldn’t help it, it was rare he could pull Angel’s leg like this.
“Ezekiel, not fucking right now.” Angel watched you walk away, with Damien turning back to throw him a grin. “Motherfucker has me fucked up.” He took out a cigarette and lit it up.
“So what’s the game plan?” Gilly questioned.
“We enjoy the fair.”
Somehow, they knew that wasn’t exactly what was going to happen.
You were starting to get irritated. At every corner you turned, the Mayans were there. You were certain that your tio didn’t send them since he already threatened Damien at your apartment. But you never know, he may have had a sudden change of heart. You just wished it wasn’t four fucking members. That was like half of their charter.
“Is it me or are Angel and the other members following us?” Damien turned back and sure enough, there they were just hanging around.
Angel was leaning against one of the poles that was holding a game together, smoking his cigarette just looking at you. He winked at you and you scowled at him. You would like to think Angel was a friend, why was he here?
“Don’t pay them any attention.” You brushed them off.
“Why won’t I win you a prize, get you a memorabilia of this fun night we had?” Damien offered.
You laughed, nodding your head. “That sounds like a plan to me.”
Damien led you to a knock the bottle game. He knew he had this, he was a star baseball player back in the day, if it wasn’t for an injury, he would have been big time now. He had this. After four tries, Damien won you a small bear, which was very sweet. You appreciated the effort.
“Here you go beautiful.” Damien handed your bear to your
“Such a small prize for such a beautiful girl.” Angel whistled, sitting beside where you stood, shaking his head. “I can win you a bigger one preciosa.”
“I’m good Angel, you know it’s not always about the size.” You smirked at him, even throwing a wink.
“Perhaps, but for the record, mine is pretty thick and long.” He licked his lips and you swear to god, you wanted to smack that annoying smirk off his face. “Come on, let me win you one. I always told you that if we go to the fair, I would try to win you a prize.” Angel was talking to you as if Damien wasn’t a few feet away. And your attention was on Angel, as much as you hated to admit it. But this was a conversation you had before, he told you that if you two ever went to the fair, he would win you a prize. You two had spoken about how you thought it was sweet when guys won girls prizes, it was very sweet.
“Fine, you get one shot.” You don’t know why you gave Angel the okay, but you figured if Angel didn’t get any hits, it would bruise his ego and he would leave you alone so you could enjoy whatever was left of your date.
Angel took some money out of his pocket and gave it to the worker. Angel got three balls to get the bottles that were stacked together.
“Which one do you like, baby girl?” Angel questioned.
“Surprise me.” You looked over at EZ, Coco and Gilly who were far too amused by this whole situation. “Are you three going to try too?”
“No, this is all Angel hermana.” Coco took a bite out of his churro, enjoying this whole situation. He always advised Angel to just bite the bullet, but as always, Angel was as stubborn as they come. “Just watch your man win you something.”
You bit your tongue, not correcting Coco. You pretended you didn’t hear him.
“Wanna give me a kiss so I can have some good luck?” Angel playfully teased you, offering his cheek to you.
“Just throw the ball Reyes.” Damien finally spoke up.
You turned to him and gave him a sheepish smile. “This will be done soon, he won’t hit anything.”
Angel smirked at your words. He threw the ball and all the bottles were knocked out. Damien’s mouth slightly dropped along with yours. Coco, Gilly and EZ all cheered him on, yelling out their congratulations.
“I know them down two more times and she gets the big one?” Angel questioned the teenager that was working the booth.
He nodded his head.
And Angel did it. One throw for all of them. He smugly looked over at you and held his arm out towards the booth.
“Whatever you want mi dulce.”
You didn’t want to give him the satisfaction, but you were quite impressed. “I told you, surprise me.”
Angel chuckled and nodded his head. He wasn’t sure what you were trying to play at, but he knew you, after taking a random trip to the San Diego Zoo, he knew every fucking animal you liked. “Let me get the giraffe.” He handed it over to you, the giraffe had a long neck and was surprisingly soft. You couldn’t help but blush and look down at your feet. It was a habit you had, it was hard for you to look at the person you like in the eye. “You want more?”
“No, she’s good.” Damien had enough of Angel showing him up. This was his date, he wasn’t going to let Angel ruin it. “You want to go to the ferris wheel before we leave?”
“Sure,” you nodded your head. “Thanks Angel, have fun with whatever else you guys do.” You couldn’t exactly tell Angel that you really appreciated the gesture, especially since he remembered your favorite animal was a giraffe.
As you walked away, you tried your hardest to not turn around and look at Angel. You would have just ran back, besides, Angel was just being nice. He was always nice to you, very sweet as well. But you didn’t want to assume that he had feelings for you. A similar situation occurred to you a few years back and the guy was just being nice to you due to your connection to the Mayans charter in Oakland. It stung, but you promised yourself then that you would not assume things and always wait for confirmation from the person’s mouth. No telephone game, people misconstrued things and that’s what led you to believe that the guy had feelings for you.
“I’m really sorry, I don’t know why Tio Bishop sent them here.” You apologized to Damien as you two made your way to the Ferris wheel.
“It’s okay, they’re like the older brothers you’ve never had.” It was true. You had mentioned it to him that the Mayans felt like and extended family to you. A bunch of misfits that you never would have thought would become your family but they did. The charters up north always took care of you and your mother, checking on you weekly to make sure you ladies were taken care of. Damien was trying to be understanding of the situation, but he knew what Angel was trying to do. And he couldn’t let him win.
“Yeah, they are.” With the exception of Angel, cause that would be odd.
They were close to the Ferris wheel, Damien figured he could make his move on you then, no Angel to distract you. There was no line so you and Damien were slated to go next, but you weren’t exactly sure how it happened. The next thing you knew, you and Angel were in one of the capsules making its way up.
“What the fuck are you doing?” Damien growled out at the Mayan members.
“You know she’s Angel’s girl, you knew this was going to happen.” Gilly wasn’t exactly sure what Damien expected out of this whole situation, but everyone who hung out at the club knew that you were off-limits. If being Bishop’s niece didn’t drive them away, it was Angel’s closeness to you that should have.
“They’re not together. He doesn’t even know if she feels anything for him.” Damien didn’t want to push his luck, but he was also getting annoyed. He wasn’t going to let them push him around.
“Doesn’t matter, you fucked up.” Coco scoffed.
“It’s interesting how much shit you’re spewing out when Angel isn’t around.” EZ smugly pointed out.
“Angel can go fuck himself. I’m sorry he didn’t have the balls to ask her out on a date, but tough shit. He’s not the only one interested in her.”
“What are you trying to gain from this? You think you're gonna bed her like your other girls?” Coco was curious as to why Damien decided to ask you out. He’s seen him lurking around, but he never tried to make a move since again, you were always with Angel, Gilly or himself. It was hard to penetrate that wall.
“That’s none of your business.” Damien venomously spat out at them, looking at the ferris wheel.
“Don’t make it our business, be smart about this then.” EZ warned.
You looked at Damien who was being held by Coco and Gilly while EZ waved to you and Angel.
“This is absolutely ridiculous.” You scolded Angel. “I’m on a date! I don’t know what my lovely tio told you, but please leave so I can enjoy what’s left of it.”
“Come on amor, you know you’re not enjoying yourself.” Angel scoffed.
“I was, till you and your three stooges came.” You slightly turned your body away from Angel, crossing your arms and looking out the windows in the Ferris wheel capsule.
“You were really having fun with Damien?” Angel knew you weren’t very happy with him, but he didn’t give a fuck. He was saving you from this asshole.
“Yes, I mean he’s a decent guy Angel, it’s a date not a marriage.” You refused to look at him. You kept getting mixed signals from Angel and you weren’t exactly brave enough to ask him questions about it.
“Look, I think I should be honest with you here.” Here it was. Angel was going to tell you that he was just messing around and that he was just following orders. No biggie. You weren’t going to be affected at all since you expected it. “I like you.”
“And I like you too when you’re not being a prick.”
“No, I like you, as in I have feelings for you. Seeing you with Damien is driving me crazy so I followed you here to make sure nothing happens between you two.”
It was silent for a few moments between you two which made Angel nervous. This wasn’t the first time he confessed to a woman, but this felt different. The air was heavier if that made any sense.
“Angel, this is going above and beyond my tio’s orders.” You spoke up, happy that the ride was making its descent.
He gave you an incredulous look, eyes wide and confused. “Orders? You fucking think I developed feelings for you through an order? The fuck do you think this is? Is it so unbelievable for me to have feelings for you?”
“No, it’s just, why would you like me? I’m not your type.” That was such a weak excuse but from what you gathered you weren’t his type.
“My type? How would you even know my type?”
“Observations? I don’t know.” Your knee began to shake, an indication that you were becoming anxious, something Angel picked up with all the time he spent with you.
“You have nothing to be nervous about.”
You felt the walls closing in around you. Escaping this option was not an option right now since you were still at least six feet above ground.
“I’m not nervous, I,” you sighed. “This shouldn’t be hard, but I always thought you hung around me cause tio requested for you to do so.”
“Believe me, your tio requested for Coco and Gilly to do it, I was drawn to you because of you.”
“Did Coco tell you about my crush on you? Because I feel like there’s a way to let me down without leading me on.”
Crush? You had a crush on him?
“Querida, what are you talking about?”
“Stop, don’t call me that. The pet names make this all that much more confusing.”
“What? Y/N, I’m not leading you on.”
The door opened and you immediately got out with Angel hot on your trail. “Damien can you take me home?”
“No, she’s good, I’ll take her home.” Angel stepped in between you two.
You glared at the back of Angel’s head which was seen by EZ, Coco and Gilly.
“I would really like to end my date at my house Angel, thank you for the offer.” You stepped away from Angel and walked over to Damien, grabbing his hand and making your way towards the exit.
Angel watched your disappearing form and let out a yell of frustration.
“She’s fucking insane!” He yelled out.
The three tried to keep their laughter in, but it was just so difficult for them.
“I’m glad you are all having fun at my expense.” Angel walked away from the three, grumbling under his breath.
“How was the ride?” Coco questioned.
“I told her I had feelings for her and she told me that I was going above and beyond my orders. The fuck is that supposed to mean?” Angel took out his sixth cigarette in the span of two hours.
“You’re smart bro, you know what she’s insinuating.” Gilly patted his brother on the back. “Maybe it’s time to take a different approach.”
“Again, if you just ask her out on a fucking date, this wouldn’t be so difficult.” EZ really didn’t know why his brother has been playing this game for years. It was like he was so afraid to be rejected. If he didn’t play confidant and immediately asked you out, then you two would be together and they wouldn’t be playing this game for Angel.
“Like what?” Angel questioned Gilly, ignoring EZ.
“You should play hard to get.”

One Lonely Weekend
A self-ship fic with Lapis and Peridot
Friday morning started out like any other. I got up, made breakfast, took a shower, and headed for work as I looked forward to the weekend. Lapis, Peridot, and I were planning to head into the city and visit a few bars. Peridot didn’t drink, but Lapis did occasionally. We’re definitely not heavy drinkers, just enough to get a little loose or buzzed at most.
While I was at work, Peridot was working in the garden. She had gotten up before Lapis, which was normal since Lapis typically slept in. However, usually Lapis would be around by late morning. A few hours of gardening later and there was no sign of Lapis. Curious, she took a break and went inside to find her.
Peridot looked in every room where Lapis would usually be, and checked our bedroom last. Surprisingly there was Lapis, still laying in bed with all but her hair covered by a blanket.
“Lapis,” Peridot said quietly.
“Yeah,” Lapis responded in a somewhat groggy voice.
“Have you been laying in bed this whole time?”
“Mhm.”
“Are you planning to lay in bed all day or...?”
“I don’t know. I’m having difficulty motivating myself to get out of bed.”
Peridot sat on the edge of the bed and stroked Lapis’s hair. “Are you feeling okay? Do you need something?”
Lapis thought for a moment and then shrugged. “I don’t know.”
“Okay, well, I’ll let you rest,” Peridot said and got up after softly patting Lapis on the head.
Meanwhile at work I was trying to stay busy to make the day go faster since Fridays tend to feel longer than the other weekdays. My busyness paid off as the day was over before I realized it. I excitedly headed to the train station and didn’t have to wait long for the next train to home.
After gardening, Peridot went inside and browsed the internet to pass the time. She became interested in chess and quickly became an expert at it. She checked in on Lapis periodically, and Lapis was still laying in bed, having barely moved.
When I came home Peridot was in the living room on the laptop.
“I’m going to have a quick snack and then we can head out,” I said.
“Well... there’s a problem,” Peridot said.
She brought me to our bedroom where Lapis was laying in bed.
“She hasn’t gotten up the entire day as far as I know,” Peridot said quietly as we went in.
Peridot and I sat on the edge of the bed. “How are you feeling Lapis,” I asked quietly.
“Right now my mind is asking me what’s the point in doing anything. I just... don’t have any motivation. Not even to get out of bed.”
“So I’m guessing you don’t want to go to the city tonight?”
“Oh shoot, I forgot about that. I- I’m sorry, I’m just not in the right mood for it, or for doing anything.”
I gently stroked her hair. “It’s okay. I’ve been in that mood plenty of times before.”
“You two go ahead and enjoy the night.”
“You sure you don’t want us to stay here and keep you company,” Peridot asked.
“I’ll be fine. I just need to rest.”
“Okay, if you need anything don’t hesitate to call or text me,” I said.
Lapis nodded and moved her hand out of the blanket to give a thumbs up.
“See you later Lapis. We love you,” Peridot said softly.
Lapis waved and then tucked her hand back under the blanket.
Originally we were planning to take the train, but we decided Peridot would fly us to the city and we would just go to a couple bars. Both bars we went to had a relaxed atmosphere, which I liked. They also served hard cider, which I really liked since I never developed a taste for beer.
After a couple drinks at both bars we walked around the city, which was surprisingly quiet for a Friday night.
“You think Lapis is doing okay,” Peridot asked.
“Well, no and yes. Right now she’s not since she’s having a depressive episode, but I’ve had those too and it just takes time to recover from them. We’ll be there to support her and do our best to help her feel better, but if she wants to be alone that’s okay too.”
“How long does it take to get out of these depressive episodes?”
“It varies widely. Sometimes it only takes a few hours, or a few days, or... months.”
Peridot had a nervous expression on her face.
“But as long as we’re there for her she’ll be okay, though I should see if she would be interested in coming with me to a therapy appointment.”
“Is that what you do when you have a depressive episode?”
“Not every time, but if I feel like I need some assistance getting out of it then I do, but also there are times when I’m feeling okay but see my therapist anyways. Sometimes it’s good to talk stuff out with a professional.”
“Interesting. Well we’ll see how she’s feeling for the next few days. Obviously no pressure on her to feel better.”
“Right. Positivity and support from us is what will help her.”
Peridot nodded. “So, anything else you want to do before we head back?”
“Want to sit at the park that overlooks the tracks and watch trains for awhile?”
Peridot smiled and wrapped her arm around mine. “I’d love to.”
After a little over an hour we headed back. Lights were on in the house, but there was no sign of Lapis. We checked our bedroom and surprisingly she wasn’t there, so we checked her private room and sure enough it was closed. We were kind of disappointed since we wanted to see how she was doing, but we respected her choice of wanting to be alone.
For the rest of the night Peridot and I played chess. Although I had longer experience with chess she was able to beat me quite easily.
“Not gonna lie, the fact you’re already an expert with this makes me kind of jealous,” I said with a chuckle.
Peridot giggled. “I should challenge Pearl sometime. I have a feeling she would get close to beating me, but I would still be champion.”
We laid in bed and cuddled, though still thinking about Lapis. She had a bed in her private room though, so we took comfort in the fact she was probably just sleeping in there.
On Saturday Peridot and I went on a bike ride around our area. She didn’t quite understand the purpose of biking, especially when it didn’t involve going to a destination, but she did enjoy the breeze and the ability to move faster than on foot. Lapis was in her private room when we left, and it appeared she had been in there all day since her door was still closed when we got back.
Although there were times Peridot and I got nervous enough that we wanted to knock on Lapis’s door, we knew we shouldn’t. We had all agreed that when someone was in their private room we were not allowed to disturb them. Lapis likes her alone time and we respected that. However, occasionally we would walk by her door to see if it was open.
While I made myself dinner, Peridot tended to her garden. After finishing my meal and watching the sun start to set I could see Peridot standing with her feet in the water at the lake.
I went outside to check up on her. “A little chilly isn’t it,” I asked.
Peridot turned and gave a soft smile. “It’s not that bad.”
I dipped a finger in the water and just that gave me a shiver. “Well maybe to you, but for a human that’s way too cold.”
“How about some warm water then?”
I grinned. “Jacuzzi?”
Peridot nodded.
“Sounds good to me.”
We rested and cuddled in the jacuzzi for a couple hours. The warm water and Peridot’s soft body felt quite comforting.
“What should we do tomorrow,” I asked as I nestled my face in Peridot’s hair.
“Hmm, well first let’s see if Lapis leaves her room, and then we’ll go from there,” she replied and intertwined her fingers with mine.
“Alrighty,” I said and kissed her on the cheek before nestling my face back into her hair.
After we dried off we went to bed. In the middle of the night I woke up and couldn’t help but walk to Lapis’s room. The door was still closed, and I quietly sighed. Just being out in the dark and silent hallway for a few minutes felt lonely, so I was quite worried about Lapis. Even though I really wanted to see her, I would just have to wait. When she was eventually going to come out of her room there was going to be a lot of hugs and kisses for her. Hopefully she wouldn’t mind.
I tiptoed back to bed and fell asleep shortly after.
Sunday arrived, and still no sign of activity from Lapis. Peridot and I decided to go out and get brunch. Peridot didn’t eat, but she was always a nice presence to have while I ate.
“Did the server give me a weird look when I said I wasn’t getting anything,” Peridot asked.
“Yeah, I noticed that. I guess they prefer everyone who’s in here buys something, but whatever. With the amount of food I’m eating they’ll get enough money to look like we both ordered food.”
“Human culture can be quite weird sometimes.”
“Trust me, having lived with human culture my whole life, I can say that it’s weird all the time.”
Peridot giggled. “So, anything else you want to do today?”
“Part of me wants to stay occupied with other stuff so I don’t worry about Lapis, and part of me wants to stay home just in case Lapis wants to see us.”
“Well, what if I stayed home and then you can do whatever you want to do?”
“You sure? If you wanted to do something I could stay home.”
“Nah, it’s fine. I’m exhausted from the weekend we had.”
“If Lapis comes out of her room can you text me?”
“Of course.”
After finishing my brunch, Peridot and I hugged and kissed before parting ways. While she headed home I decided to go for a hike in an area I haven’t seen much of. I ended up at an amazing viewing spot with rolling green hills and meadows surrounding a small lake. I knew I had to bring Peridot and Lapis here sometime. Even though I tried not to, I occasionally checked my phone to see if Peridot sent anything. By the afternoon as the sun began its descent towards the horizon I decided to head home. However I took a long and scenic route back both to kill time and see more picturesque views.
After getting back I assumed Lapis was still in her room since Peridot hadn’t sent a text. I sighed and went inside.
The rest of the day was uneventful. Peridot went to her private room to work on projects that required a lot of concentration. Meanwhile I browsed the internet, and as quickly as the weekend started it was now coming to an end. Even though I didn’t have to get up early for work I decided to try to get to sleep early.
When I woke up my nose was pressed against Peridot’s gem. I giggled and gently kissed it before getting up. As I walked to the kitchen I passed by Lapis’s room. For a moment I kept walking but then stopped and turned around. The door was open. My heart started racing and I ran into the kitchen. With her sitting on the couch, almost immediately Lapis and I made eye contact.
“Hey,” she said with her beautiful smile.
I ran to her and nearly knocked the couch over as I threw myself at her for a hug.
She snort laughed and held me tight. “How are you?”
“I should be asking you that!”
“I’m feeling better, especially after I realized my motivation for getting out of bed and living life.”
“And what was that?”
“Seeing my two wonderful partners and being with them,” she said and kissed me on the cheek.
“I’m really glad you’re feeling better, and that Peridot and I indirectly helped you through this.”
“Me too, and I’m sorry I wasn’t around this weekend.”
“It’s alright. I know how you felt and sometimes it’s best to take a mental health break. Also, if you’re ever interested, my therapist may be able to help with depression episodes. She’s helped with mine and other issues I’ve had, so if you ever want to give her a chance let me know. No pressure of course.”
“Yeah, I’ll definitely keep it in mind, though for me I think it just simply helps to be alone for a little bit to think things through. But now that I’m better all I want to do is spend the day with you and Peridot.”
“Well... I have to go to work since it’s Monday.”
“Oh yeah, that’s right,” Lapis said with a slight frown.
“Hmm, I do have paid time off though,” I said with a grin.
“Is- is that a good thing?”
“It means I can take today off and still get paid.”
She became starry eyed. “Do that!”
I chuckled. “Alright, the three of us are going to spend the day together, and we’ll do whatever you want to do.”
“I would love that very much.”
As we continued embracing each other we heard footsteps quickly coming down the hallway. Peridot rushed in and practically attacked us with a hug, and it was enough to knock over the couch.
For a moment we were shocked but then laughed as we laid on the floor hugging Lapis. For awhile we just laid there and cuddled together before eventually getting up and starting our day.

Did I read in one of your posts that you're a bartender? If so, what's your favorite drink to make for others, and your favorite to drink yourself?
You did!!
And TBH, that DEPENDS a LOT. Okay, for context, I work in a VERY high volume, high paced bar. Like, 90 % of the time, I start at 4:30pm, I get a pee break around 7pm when my second comes in, and Saturday’s especially, there isn’t even time to think about taking a. Bathroom break or eating until WELL past 1am, sometimes you don’t stop moving until 2:30 am and everyone’s EXHAUSTED.
SO, in *that* sense. I’m gonna love you for ordering a bottle or can of beer, or a simple high ball (aka, a rum and coke, gin and tonic)things that require the minimum effort so that i can get your drink out at prime speed and move on to the next one, and keep people happy.
That being said. At our bar we have the “Pretty in Pink” as a signature cocktail, if (girls specifically) don’t know what they want, I recommend it, it’s peach schnapps, watermelon vodka, cranberry and pineapple juices. Delicious! Fruity without being TOO sweet.
My “Katt” cocktails that are BOMB and I make for friends are: red sangria: red wine, ounce of scotch, ounce of watermelon vodka, pineapple juice, ginger ale, orange juice, splash of cranberry juice. Toss in all the fruits, bonus points for strawberries and cinnamon stick. Toss it in the fridge (sans ice) for the shift and let it mingle, that shits gonna fuck you up at teh end of the night. I also make a damn good ceaser.
For myself: I’ll make a sangria if I can get it in a pony, and leave it in the fridge as mentioned. Otherwise, I like to just pour myself a cider, or grab a scotch (we get one free drink per shift, so i go for those). We don’t have mojitos at our bar (again, too time consuming to make) but I LOVE them, so I’ll usually get one of those if I’m out.
At home: it’s gonna be white claws right now tbh (grapefruit or lime, if I’m feeling like i want a bit more sweet, I’ll get the watermelon ones.) they’re just nice and light, lower calories per can, and it’s a good summer drink. I used to be big into red wine, but swapped to white cause darker alcohol triggers more anxiety/jitters the next day. Though I’m very off the wine right now….

Hey there! Could you maybe do toasted marshmallows, bonfire, and see your breath in the air as as prompt for whoever? If not that's totally fine. Your stuff is all really good and brightens my day all the time! I'm so excited that you have that masterlist now! Have a great night!
Drinking is mentioned.
The sun peeked through the trees as a light breeze swept through the yard. Race gazed up at the old house he and Spot had purchased a couple of years ago. They had spent the morning raking leaves, only for their dog, Spud, to jump in them and make a mess. And now it was time to sit, relax, and enjoy the gorgeous day.
October was here and it was the perfect day for a bonfire in the yard. With mugs of hot apple cider, Race sat in a lounge chair while Spot got to work building the fire. “You sure you know what you’re doing?”
“I mean it’s not hard to catch some leaves on fire before putting some wood on top.” Spot grinned. “Besides, unlike you, I did a few years of Scouts and the number one rule of Scouts is Be Prepared!”
Race chuckled. “Just get the fire started, Spottie. I need my heater over here to keep me warm. And your apple cider is getting cold.”
They both waited several seconds with baited breath before the leaves caught fire along with several sticks that were thrown in the fire pit. “Ha, in your face Racetrack. Doubting my skills.”
“Alright, my Mr mighty fire builder, come over here and keep me warm.” Race opened his arms for Spot to crawl into his lap as he nestled his head into Spot’s warm chest. “We should roast marshmallows.”
Spot chuckled. “That sounds like a plan. Let the fire die down some and we can do that. Is there anything else we need to do today?”
“Nope. Chili is simmering on the stove, fire built, Spud’s down for the count. Kat and Jack said they might stop by later along with Blink, Mush, Albert and Finch.” Race sighed in contentment.
Taking a sip of his apple cider, Spot nodded. “Sounds like a solid Saturday afternoon.”
They both watch Spud wiggle next to them in the grass with a laugh before hearing a car door slam. Spud was on his feet barking heading to the front of the house before either of them could move.
They waited for whoever had arrived to make their appearance. In the meantime, Spot leaned down and kissed Race. “Happy autumn, snookums.”
“It’s been a pretty spectacular day, huh?” Race grinned, seeing his brother and Kat walk around the corner of the house with Spud at their heels.
“Hey you two.” Jack yelled, as Spud took something from Kat’s hand and went to lay down. “Yard looks good.”
Spot gave him a look. “Thanks but you’re rewarding the dog that messed it up this morning.”
“In what way?” Kat gave him a look, sitting in one of the chairs around the fire pit.
Race watched Spud chew on the rawhide that the two had brought him before looking at the happy couple. “We were raking leaves and mister decided to run through them and make a mess. It’s a good thing we love him.”
“Awww he probably didn’t mean to.” Kat reached over and gave him belly rubs.
Spot and Race both chuckled, shaking their heads at how spoiled their dog is by friends and family. “What have you guys been up to?”
“She made me clean bathrooms today.” Jack cried dramatically, giving his wife a look. “Other than that we went to the farmer’s market before coming here.”
Race patted Jack’s shoulder sympathetically. “I feel your pain, Jackie. Spottie makes me clean the bathrooms too.”
“Would you rather wash floors or dust?” Kat gave him a look, raising an eyebrow. “You complain when I make you wash dishes or vacuum. You’re pitching in around the house, somehow - laundry, vacuum, dusting, or bathrooms. Pick your poison.”
Spot gave Race a look. “Don’t give me that look - you’re in the same boat as your brother. Pick your poison.”
Kat held her arm up for a high five as Spot obliged. Jack and Race looked at their spouses. “I believe we’ve been set up.”
“Way to go Captain Obvious.” Spot grinned at his beloved before looking at Jack and Kat. “Pleasure doing business with you Kat!”
They heard more car doors close as Jack looked at the two. “Expecting more people?”
“As our house usually is, it was an open invite. We texted you two but I may have let it slip to Albert and Blink as well.” Race grinned, watching the two walk around the corner of the house with their better halves. “Hey guys! We have chili simmering on the stove and s’more stuff for later.”
Greetings and hugs were exchanged before everyone got cozy around the fire, which Spot had put another two logs on. Race tilted his head back and blew air from his mouth grinning. “Hey I can see my breath.”
“How old are you again?” Albert asked, giving his best friend a look.
Race stuck out his tongue and laughed. “Today, I’m 6 but on a normal day, 25.”
The group laughed, while Spot nestled deeper into Race’s lap. A discussion about football started up. The local university was playing away that day so Albert and Blink had their phones out with the updates coming through.
Race stood up from the chair, gently depositing Spot in the chair before backing Kat to come with him into the house. He went to the stove and stirred the chili and gave her a look. “Will you gather the stuff for s‘mores?”
They were silent as they attended both of their tasks - him gathering stuff for chili while she found all the s‘ more stuff. “Race, how’s it going?”
“Good. We have a home visit next week and that’s the last step before we’re officially adoptive parents. Once that’s done, we can start adopting or foster.” Race grinned, as she stopped and hugged him.
“That’s so exciting. You two have been waiting for this for the last two years.” She grinned. “Are you going to foster or go right into adoption?”
Race grabbed a few bowls from the cupboard before shrugging. “I think we’re leaning toward adoption but there’s quite a waitlist for adoption so we may foster first. We have an option where we could foster and adopt if it’s a right fit.”
“I’m excited for you two. Jack and I are here if you need anything.” Kat put everything on a tray before putting it on the kitchen table.
“Thanks. We really appreciate it. Your character reference letter you did for us was more than we could’ve asked for.” Race hugged her again
She grinned, swallowing the wave of emotion that surged through her. “You’re welcome. Jack and I’ll do anything for you and Spot.”
Race nodded, grabbing the sour cream and shredded cheese from the fridge before looking at the counter. “Can you let those yahoo’s know chili is ready?”
She walked out to the wrap around porch, yelling at the ones in the yard. He heard everyone before he could see them. They gathered around, grabbing bowls and ladling them up with chili and all the fixings. Spot pulled Race close, kissing him before grinning. “This looks good. Thanks for making it.”
Shouts of gratitude and thanks were yelled as everyone headed outside. Silence fell over the group as everyone dug. “That’s the best chili I’ve had.”
“Only because you didn’t have to make it.” Race quipped, giving Mush a look. “Besides, from what I’ve heard, you’re banned from the kitchen.”
Albert and Jack both chuckled. “Not sure why you’re laughing, boys. Heard you’re not allowed in either without supervision.”
“It was a teeny tiny fire.” Jack said before putting another spoonful in his mouth.
Spot raised an eyebrow. “Then why was the fire department called?”
“They were called for precaution. Just to make sure everything was alright.” Jack argued, giving the group a look. “I’m usually on grilling duty.”
“That way the house won’t explode.” Kat broke in as the entire group busted into laughter. “But I still love you, sweetie.”
Wiping tears from his eyes, Race grinned at Spot. “I guess I’m the lucky one that both of us can hold our own in the kitchen. And he bakes too.”
Blowing on his nails before buffing them on his shirt, Spot grinned. “Did you grab the cookies for tonight?”
“No, Kat grabbed all of the s’more stuff but I’ll grab them when I bring that stuff out.” Race promised, sighing in contentment.
Spot added a couple of pieces of wood to the fire. A conversation about work and future plans was started as Race and Spot started picking bowls and heading back into the house. “Will you grab a couple of blankets while I grab the s’more stuff?”
With a nod, Spot grabbed the clear bucket of bonfire blankets, meeting Race in the kitchen with a kiss. “Love you.”
“Love you too Spottie.”
Heading back out, Race set the tray of s’more stuff on the little table before collapsing in a chair with a sigh. “There’s marshmallows, graham crackers, cookies, and various chocolate to make your own s’mores. The marshmallow sticks are in the bucket.”
“Thanks Race, Spot for hosting us.” Albert raised his beer bottle in thanks.
“Anytime.” Spot said grinning. “Actually, we might need your help soon.”
Albert raised an eyebrow with a grin. “Name it.”
“Race and I are thinking of putting in a garden in the back part of the property next spring. Something small to start but we might need your Rototiller to break up some of the grass and dirt.” Spot explained.
Albert nodded. “Yeah absolutely. Do you know what you want to plant?”
Albert and Finch had put in a garden over the summer and filled it with carrots, radishes, peppers, tomatoes, watermelon, and were currently growing pumpkins now. There had been many times that Albert and Finch had made dinner from the contents of their garden.
“We figured we’d start small, maybe carrots, lettuce, or radishes and go from there.” Race shrugged. “We want to be able to manage it and not have it take up every free second we have.”
Finch nodded. “Let us know when you want the rototiller and it’s yours.”
Race moved from the chair to grab a stick and a marshmallow before sitting closer to the fire. His tongue poked out of his mouth in concentration, as he slowly toasted his marshmallow for the perfect hue. “Just stick it in and burn it, Racer.”
“Just because you like tasting carbon when you eat your marshmallows, doesn’t mean the rest of us do.” Race gave Jack a look. “Besides, this is how I like my s'mores .”
Spot had two graham crackers and a piece of chocolate waiting for him as he pulled his marshmallow from the fire. “Look at that beauty! Stunning work of art.”
He crafted his s’more before taking a bite and moaning in delight. “Pure Heaven, right here.”
The rest of the group made their s’mores, Jack critiquing their marshmallow toasting strategies. “If you think you can do it any better, how about you roast one youself, Jackie.”
“Maybe I will.” Jack stood up, grabbing a stick and a marshmallow before sticking it in the fire for a few seconds, waiting for it to catch fire before pulling it out and extinguishing the side by blowing on it. “Ta da!”
Spot and Race both cracked up laughing at the black, burnt marshmallow. “Any monkey could do that. It takes skill and determination to make a marshmallow as perfect as mine.”
Jack gave him a look. “Well we can’t all be as tedious as you are.”
“Thank goodness for that. There’s room for only one Racer in the world.” Albert grinned, nudging his best friend.
Race laughed, nodding. “Thanks Al.”
“We were all thinking it, I just said it.” Albert smirked.
The rest of the night was spent trading stories around the fire while toasting marshmallows, enjoying each other’s company. Laughter lit up the night like the flames. It was a great night and one that Race would look back on with nothing but fondness.
Thanks @deliciouspeachpirate for the prompt. Hope you enjoy it!!!

these chapters certainly are getting longer, yeet. let @kalypsichor and i know what you think and if there’s anything you want to see!

What can you say? Between his sweet personality and those bluer-than-blue eyes, Ringo always gets his way. You’d tried as best you could to avoid any more pure, unadulterated John-related chaos, but Paul had teamed up with Ringo for an unbeatable duo of puppy-dog eyes. They’d cornered you in the kitchen one day until you finally relented, damn them.
So, that Saturday night, you’re all squished around the table in the living room as Ringo slams down a comically large board game box. From the way his eyes light up as he looks at it, you’d think it would be glowing gold and sparkling, Cave of Wonders-style.
“Fuck’s this about?” John’s brow furrows at the name on the box. He’s already gone through half his first drink of the night: a vodka tonic with more vodka than most people would go for. Paul’s hanging over his shoulder with a beer, also a bit tipsy.
“Clue! It’s my favorite game of all time!” Ringo’s excitement is endearing and sunshine-yellow, as always.
“Thought we were playin’ Monopoly.”
“We’re trying to mend friendships, John.” Ringo fixes him with a false-stern look.
“Yeah, John, Monopoly is a game that only ends in violence. ‘Sides, I actually like Clue,” you say.
“A board game nerd too. Who knew?” George smirks. He’s got a beer in his hand as well. Though you’re overall not thrilled to be forced to participate in another night of John Lennon ruining the apartment, you can certainly say that a pro is that you’re next to George. You’re sharing the overstuffed armchair because John and Paul have claimed the couch (“for canoodling,” Ringo accused), and you can feel the warmth of George’s thigh even through your jeans. How is this boy so warm?
For a second, you catch yourself thinking of the last board game night, which ended with you and George next to each other not so unlike tonight. Unfortunately, it had been in a dark closet during a drunken game of Seven Minutes in Heaven, and you’d been too awkward even with the alcohol to try anything.
Thankfully, you’re brought back to reality by Ringo unfurling the instructions across the table. They’re nearly too large for him to fully open with his arms extended and you have a sudden vision of him as Clark Griswold from National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation.
“Right!” Ringo declares, now unfolding the game board. “Everyone pick a character. There’s six, so everyone gets their own, no teams.”
“Red!” John lunges across the table for the red, but misses slightly in doing so and scatters the other pieces across the board. He’s met with a chorus of indignant cries and Paul smacking his bicep. “Sorry! Got to have me color!”
“Right then, John’s Miss Scarlett.”
John dramatically reclines on the sofa with girlish flair.
“Paul! Paint me like one of your French girls!” Paul rolls his eyes, muttering something about the importance of nude modeling to the art world and how John would take advantage of it.
George quietly takes the green piece and places it on his starting square, then turns to you.
“It matches my socks,” he says with a smile. Your heart flutters as you see that he’s wearing said fuzzy green socks right now. Don’t blush, please don’t blush, for God’s sake.
Instead, you grab the nearest piece to you (blue) and place it on your spot.
“I’ll be Miss Peacock.”
Ringo picks Colonel Mustard and George and John goad Paul into being Professor Plum (“Professor Paul! It fits, you’ve bloody GOT to!”). As Ringo deals the cards, Paul whispers something to John and heads to the kitchen, claiming he’s getting a drink. He does come back with a six-pack of hard cider, but he also places a phone down in the center of the board, on top of the Top-Secret envelope with the winning cards.
“Is that where my phone was? I’ve been looking all day for it,” George asks as you crack open your can of cider.
“It’s the prize,” John says, his mouth curling into that wicked, Grinch-like smirk once again. As stupidly smug as he is, you’re a bit drunk and it’s hard to keep a grin off your face. “Whoever wins gets to decide who gets the phone.”
“It’s my phone, though. I bought it, I paid for it.”
“Doesn’t matter.”
“Does too!”
“Well, now it’s a part of the game! We play for it.”
George, rolling his eyes, goes to reach for the phone, but a hellish shriek from John and Paul’s protest stops him.
“Thou shalt honor the game!” Paul cries.
“And what if I don’t?”
“Bad things!” Paul’s grinning widely now and you’re biting your lips to keep from smiling. “Like in Jumanji!”
“Yes, we get sucked into a jungle world for years and years until someone finishes a board game that we left in the attic and releases us and we have to fight all the animals they unleash too.” Ringo’s smiling now too, and George reluctantly agrees to play for his phone. “Then we’d best start now! Usual rules, plus each time you move, you drink.”
“Don’t worry,” you whisper to George, feeling a bit bold from the warmth of the alcohol already. “I’m pretty good at this game. I’ll win it back for you.”
The smile he gives you increases that warmth in your body tenfold.
***
It turns out you are not, in fact, pretty good at Clue. It has a lot to do with your cards, and thanks to Paul’s subpar shuffling skills, you have a shit hand. Several turns in, and you’re not at all close to solving the murder of Dr. Black. Your lack of strategy also may have something to do with the fact that you’re onto your second drink (rum and Coke but with diet Pepsi because it’s cheaper). However, you’re relatively confident in winning, as John both does not know the rules and doesn’t currently have the capacity to learn them.
“Then... then I’ll use that portal. The secret passage,” John slurs, and Ringo shakes his head adamantly.
“No, you can’t, John. The passage is in the greenhouse. You’re not in the greenhouse.”
“Well then, where am I?” Ringo points at John’s red piece in the ballroom.
“How the hell did I get over there?!”
“Honestly, John, are you high as well as drunk?” You ask with a smile. He takes a liberal slug of his vodka tonic before responding in a deadpan: “This is my personality.” Behind him, Paul mouths “a bit high,” and you giggle.
“Oi, you’re one to talk!” John shoves Paul with his shoulder, still with that easy smile on his face.
“Look, y’know, the people have right to know, it’s-”
“The people! The people? What fucking people?”
“What’s all this?” Ringo looks up from his expertly technical dice roll.
“They’re drunk,” George laughs.
“Can we get on with it, lovebirds?” You shift in your seat and are suddenly reminded of being pressed against George’s whole side. You can practically feel him breathing.
“Yeah, some of us are trying to win here. The stakes are high,” George grins. “So if you two could pull your heads out of each other’s arses-”
There’s a chorus of laughter around the table, and John drops his cards with a hilariously restrained “oh shit.”
With a good deal of direction from Ringo (“‘S like herding cats, the lot of you!”), gameplay continues.
“Alright… John, do you have… the rope?” Ringo bites his lip, glancing over his cards and his scratch sheet of paper. John gasps.
“What? How’d you know that?” He cries, and you laugh, leaning towards George a bit more without thinking. You let your head fall onto his shoulder and suddenly you’re back in that darkened closet again. You’d sat just like this on the floor, but with your knees curled up against your chest. Your head was on his shoulder, and his hand was so close to yours-
George stiffens a bit, and as if you’d been shocked, you sit straight up. You make eye contact with Paul accidentally, and for a second, that infamous pout curls into a smirk. You hear an echo of his voice in your head. I’ll get the truth out of you one of these days, y’know. Your eyes fall to Geo’s phone lying on the board, and you suddenly realize that it was Paul who’d gotten it from the kitchen, not John.
“Conspiracy!” John shouts suddenly, both echoing your thoughts and shaking you out of them.
“It’s not a fucking conspiracy, John, you guess, it’s how you play-” George argues.
“Ringo must be cheating!”
“How do you not know how the game works?” Paul teases, and John scrunches up his nose at him.
“Well, I was doing just fine until you-”
“Don’t blame me for your incompetence-”
“Incompetence!?” John practically shrieks, and Ringo snorts, covering his mouth with his hand.
“Off with his head!” George says, and pantomimes cutting his own head off. He lets his ‘severed’ head loll back onto the armchair’s cushioned back, exposing his neck. He’s got such a lovely neck, more slender than one might expect. It’s long and the tendons and muscles are defined, and his collarbones peek out just a bit over the neckline of his shirt. He’s been wearing his hair curly for the past several days, and it goes in waves past his ears, ending in a little flick just below his earlobe. The sun has set by now, and in the lamplight, his skin looks like gold. Your eyes travel back up his hair, and you suddenly notice-- oh, fuck, he’s looking at you.
You snap your head back to the game so fast you nearly give yourself whiplash. John and Paul are still arguing, and you just barely catch Ringo sneaking a peek at John’s cards while his guard is down.
“Hey! Hey… do you wanna fight?” Paul says, and leans close to John’s face.
“... no.” John’s tone is sheepish but he’s smiling widely.
“Good.” Paul leans a touch closer. You swear John almost stops breathing.
Your eyebrows nearly hit your hairline as George snickers.
“God, get a room,” Ringo sighs, and John leaps up from the couch, Paul not far behind.
“Gents, fair lady, I’ve forgotten something in my room, and I’ve got to… get it.” With that, John stumbles down the hall towards his and Paul’s bedroom.
“I’m… helping him.” Paul rushes out too.
“Then there were three,” George says after a beat of silence.
“Two,” Ringo says, standing and stretching. “S’pose that’s the end of it, so I’m going to put my headphones on as quickly as possible.” He bids you and George goodnight and then heads to their shared room, taking the fleece blanket from the couch with him.
“Smart move,” you say. “Poor Freddie upstairs said his bedroom’s just above John and Paul’s. He’s about to get a free show.”
“With surround sound,” George says, and you snort. Reluctantly, you force yourself to get up, detaching from George’s side and busying yourself with picking up the cups, cans, and bottles littering the various surfaces in the living room. As you release your armful into the kitchen sink, George’s sudden shout from the living room startles you.
“You idiot bastard! That’s what this was about?” You turn to see George still standing in the living room, hunched over his phone and calling down the hall to John and Paul’s room.
“You put fucking TINDER on my phone?!”

AN: Lots of stuff happening. Also I wrote most of this after emptying an entire bottle of cider by myself so I take no responsibility for any mistakes (yes I sunk that low)
Warnings: probably swearing (idek anymore), alcohol?
“I’m in trouble Lisa, he’s definitely trouble”, I said to my best friend as I stood in my closet, phone pressed to my ear. Ever since the party my thoughts had been running wild and I had come to the realization that I couldn’t handle being just friends with benefits with Tyler. Right now it was more like friends with one-sided feelings.
“Yeah I saw that coming from a mile away. What changed?”
I told her how I’d been the last one to leave Tyler’s house at the party last week. After dancing around with Roope and Jamie I’d sat outside for a while to cool off, Tyler joining me on the sofa not long after. He’d started pestering me for juicy details of my threesome, but Lisa and I had promised each other to not tell any specifics. As soon as he realized that I wouldn’t tell him who it was with he gave up on the topic, switching to something less intrusive instead.
We’d spent the rest of the night there, only leaving once to grab more blankets as the temperature dropped. With my legs tucked underneath me and his arm around my body, apparently I’d looked like I was cold, we’d spent hours talking and trying to see the stars dimmed by the city lights. As the time had passed I’d found myself snuggling closer and closer but at one point I practically couldn’t keep my eyes open anymore.
He tried to convince me to stay, but with my house only being a five minute walk away there was no logical reason to accept his offer, even if I really wanted to. The dogs had all found comfortable spots on his couch to sleep and the sight was so domestic that it almost broke my heart to wake Yogi up so we could leave.
Tyler had insisted on walking me home again and as I hugged him goodbye I knew that I was in some deep shit. It wasn’t like I’d actively tried to avoid falling for anyone up to this point, I’d just had a more it’ll happen when it happens approach, meaning I didn’t particularly look for anyone either.
In hindsight I should have seen it coming with the amount of time we spent with each other and the way he reminded me of the one guy I’d ever had feelings for but yet it still took me by surprise.
He’d texted me a couple of times while being away and saying that I wasn’t looking forward to his snapchats would be a lie.
“So what are you going to do now?”, Lisa asked after listening to me telling her about what happened. I had thought about this a lot, especially since Tyler had asked me to come over for a bit before his first game of the pre season tonight. I wanted to go and watch in person but Mia wasn’t free tonight and I didn’t want to go by myself, so I promised I’d cheer on him from the confines of my couch.
Mia, Jason and I had finished working on our first day together an hour ago and I had just stepped out of the shower when Lisa had finally returned my calls.
“I don’t really have a choice, either it’s just friends or something more and I’m pretty sure that that isn’t what he is looking for right now.” I didn’t want to ruin our friendship by admitting anything to him prematurely so my only option was to wait for him to take the first step.
“You don’t know that.”
“Well no but I don’t know, seems highly unlikely.”
I put her on speaker as I put on some yoga pants and a loose shirt and when I looked at my screen I saw that I had a message from Tyler.
Ty: I’m cooking do you want some?
Me: Depends on what you’re cooking because I’m not in the mood for food poisoning
Ty: Funny as always..
Ty: Pasta, salmon and some salad I think even I can handle that
I hadn’t eaten lunch yet either, so I called for Yogi and then told Lisa that I had to hang up now.
“Go get your man.”
“Fuck off Lisa.”
The weather was nice today so it came as no surprise that Gerry was enjoying the pool, Marshall and Cash still wet from having taken a dip themselves sometime before we arrived. Yogi was more than happy to join the action and I already dreaded having to brush out the tangles in his fur tonight.
The food actually smelled really good and this time I let Tyler tell me what to do, as I didn’t want to mess with any pre-game superstitions. He did let me make some adjustments to the pasta sauce though. We took our meals outside so we could properly enjoy the sunshine, something I knew we both liked to do.
I tried to act normal and I was pretty sure that I was doing a great job or at least Tyler didn’t let it on if he picked up on something being off.
It was crazy, ever since my realization my feelings had snowballed and now I found myself overthinking every little action, trying to figure out what was going on in his head while also being confused of the mess that was my thoughts.
Afterwards we settled in the media room to watch some kind of animal documentary that Jamie had recommended, but we ended up mostly just talking and laughing until it was time for his nap and for me to go home again. Time always seemed to fly with him.
“I won’t wish you good luck because you’re definitely too good for that. Have fun tonight Ty, I’ll be watching closely.”
“Thanks, I’ll try my best to put one in the net for you.”
I hugged him closely and he pressed a kiss to my temple, making my thoughts go crazy. Perhaps him leaving for over a week on a roadtrip after the game would give me some much needed distance.
Tumblr media
He didn’t put one in the net for me that night and I felt bad for him because of the loss, even if it was still only a pre season game. The team had been doing well after that, winning the following two games but Tyler hadn’t been on the ice for those.
Mia had asked me to go out with her because Elias would be staying with her grandparents for the weekend and without having any say in it I found myself in a crowded country bar on a Saturday evening. I’d even donned some boots that Mia had dug up from somewhere but I drew the line at the jeans shorts and a flannel, opting for long skinny jeans and a normal shirt instead. The boots were cute but I was nowhere near a country girl so the full get-up would only feel phony.
Mia taught me some dance moves and I even tried riding the bull-thingy, unsurprisingly not lasting very long. It did make me thirsty though so I made my way over to the bar, which offered a broad selection of beers to my delight.
“I could give you some lessons if you want me to”, I heard a voice next to me. I turned to my left and recognized the guy who had sat on the bull before me. While the time he lasted on the damn thing was impressive in itself, I’d been more captivated by his looks.
He had given me a ‘The Longest Ride’ vibe from the moment I laid eyes on him, a dark haired version of Scott Eastwood. For a second I contemplated shooting him down, but he gave off genuinely nice guy vibes with his bright smile and I could really use the distraction right now.
“How about we start with a drink instead?”, I asked, giving him my best smile. He chuckled but waved over the bartender nevertheless, ordering a round of shots and beer after taking a look at the bottle that I had in my hand.
His name was Mark and he had to lean down to hear me because he was so tall. This made me miss my heels but I also kind of liked the way he had to get close to me during our conversation at the bar.
“I’m actually here with a friend though and I don’t want to abandon her.”
“No need for that, why don’t you just bring her over to our booth over there?” He pointed over to a small group of guys that could have made up the cover of a cowboy calendar. Mia would be more than happy to spend some time with them.
She didn’t mind at all, of course, only telling me that this reminded her of our days in college when we didn’t have to spend any money at all and still stumbled out of the club drunk.
Hours later I was still dancing with Mark but what had started innocently was not so innocent by now. He had taken off his flannel long ago and his cowboy hat was now firmly planted on my hair while got to enjoy his tan skin and muscular built, results of hard work on his horse ranch.
I hadn’t gotten laid in almost two months and all the confusion from the situation with Tyler made me want to go further than I usually did with random strangers. It also helped that he could be the lead actor in any country romance movie. Mia seemed to really get along with one of his friends who promised to take good care of her and gave me his address so I could hunt him down if needed. Let’s just say it wasn’t like she minded me disappearing either.
It wasn’t until the next morning, after seeing Mark out, that I realized that I had forgotten to check on Tyler’s game, his messages from last night still unopened and portraying the frustration he felt after playing and having to watch Minnesota put six in the net.
Tumblr media
Tonight I would finally get to watch Tyler play. I had to miss the game on Thursday because I had to attend some meetings for Bumble in Austin yesterday but now it was finally time.
After a brutal workout at the gym I’d gone over to his house in the morning to make breakfast after his morning skate, something that had somehow turned into our weekend routine.
It was the last game of the pre season and against Denver out of all teams. Mara had texted me earlier to tell me that while she was still rooting for the Avs, she wouldn’t be mad if they lost tonight, which was a compliment in itself.
Mia had arranged for a sitter so she could come to the game with me and I insisted on going over to AAC early so we could watch the warmups, wanting her to get the full experience for her very first ice hockey game. I didn’t have a Stars jersey but I did own a hoodie in victory green. Tyler had offered to hook me up with some merch but I declined because I honestly couldn’t handle wearing his jersey right now.
Mark had been an alright distraction but as soon as I saw Tyler again after the trip I was reminded of the mixed feelings that I was desperately trying to get in order.
The sex with Mark had been fun, although not mindblowing, and under different circumstances I probably would have hooked up with him again but I needed to get my shit together first. While throwing myself under someone else to get over whatever this thing with Tyler was sounded very appealing, I knew that it would only distract me for so long.
Mia honked from my driveway, ripping me out of my thoughts and I checked Yogi’s food and water again before grabbing my things and making my way out of the door. Following Emily’s recommendation I had installed a doggy door that would only open when a chip in his collar got close, meaning he was free to roam the backyard as he wished while still not enabling any instrusions. It was kind of ugly but I’d figure out a way to make it look good. This way he would be fine on his own for the next couple of hours at least.
I could tell that Mia was excited, her choice of music only pumping her up even more. I was really looking forward to this as well. My last hockey game had been during the playoffs in Denver and while watching the games on TV so far was fine, nothing beat watching them live.
We were early enough to still snatch a spot up at the glass for warmups next to a family, something I’d never experienced either. Whenever I’d go with the girls one of us had always taken longer than planned so by the time we’d make it to the arena we could only watch from our seats.
Mia and I had seen each other almost every day of the week so far, but yet we still found things to talk about until the guys finally stepped onto the ice. After passing some pucks Tyler skated a lap around the rink, stopping in front of us when he finally spotted me.
“Look who finally made it”, he teased and I was tempted to flip him off but I was also very aware of the many eyes watching our every move so I only stuck my tongue out at him.
“Yeah and you better win tonight or I’m not coming again.” I was kidding of course.
“I guess I have no choice then.”
“I know you’ll do great. Go ahead and crush them”, I said and he looked like he wanted to say something, but then stopped himself, which of course only made me curious. It was times like this where I was almost convinced that perhaps he liked me back as well but I knew how unlikely that was. I might not be a professional athlete but I did understand the perks of not settling down as well.
He was called over for some drills, effectively breaking the look we shared right now and he shot a quick smile at me before tapping his stick to the glass and then skating off.
“Just friends my ass”, Mia whispered in my ear and I elbowed her in turn. I was surprised that she’d picked up on the weird tension between Tyler and I. We’d talked about him a couple of times during the week, especially as we’d made plans for the game tonight, but I hadn’t told anyone but Lisa about my current dilemma. She sensed I wasn’t in the mood to elaborate though and quickly let it go after that, which I was really thankful for.
After the warmups we decided to grab some food and drinks before finally settling in our seats. Katie had asked us to join her and the others up in the box but I declined, wanting to spend some one on one time with an old friend during the game. Besides I’d be up there during opening night soon enough.
The game wasn’t off to a very good start and while the first period was action packed on both sides, it left the Stars trailing behind by two goals. Mia was a bit confused at first but I gave her a quick crash course and soon enough she picked up on the mood in the arena, following the lead of the other fans on when to cheer and when to boo.
I used intermission to wait in the ridiculously long line for the restrooms and to check my phone, Mara flooding the group chat with messages that were practically a play by play of the game. I shot a quick text to Tyler, even if I knew that he probably wouldn’t get a look at his phone until after the game.
It was different to watch a game when you actually knew the players on the ice. I probably hadn’t been this on the edge of my seat during any sporting event since the soccer world cup finals in 2014.
After Tyler finally scored my screaming could probably be heard by Mara all the way in Denver. Mia and I were hugging each other, way too excited for the Avs still being in the lead.
Colorado scored again in the third and at this point I was already considering my options on how to cheer Tyler up. Mentally I was already going through my cute animals folder to pick out the cutest puppies to show Tyler afterwards, something that always made me feel better.
With less than four minutes left the Stars scored and Tyler had the assist so it was back to screaming and jumping for Mia and I. By the time Jamie scored to even out the score we were practically wrapped around each other, hoping for one last goal.
It didn’t happen and overtime wasn’t any better, not for lack of trying though.
“Your first time watching a hockey game and you get to watch a shootout you lucky bitch.”
“I’m just glad because this time it will be easy to follow the puck, the stupid thing moves so fast that I lose it every few seconds.”
At this point we couldn’t even stay seated if we wanted to, not that we did, because everyone else was on their feet to see what would happen. Shootouts were always brutal and not for the first time that night I was glad that I’d put on some lipstick because otherwise my lips would probably bleed from constantly biting them. Life hack by the way.
With the sound of the final buzzer I was pulled into the arms of the middle aged man to my left that I had never seen before, but I didn’t mind because I was so happy that the Stars had won. For this being only a pre season game things surely had escalated quickly.
Mia was still buzzing by the time we made our way out of the arena, enthusiastically recounting her favorite moments of the game. She would probably never watch games on TV but I knew from experience that it was hard not to fall for hockey when you got to watch games live. Perhaps I could take her again sometime, I had a feeling that she’d like glass seats even better.
The amount of fans trying to leave at the same time had slowed us down quite a bit so we were still at the parking garage when I felt my phone buzz with a call.
“Hey Ty what’s up?”
“Sorry I just got out of the shower or I would have called sooner but I wanted to ask if you want to come out with us tonight. You should bring your friend too, we’re celebrating the end of a good pre season.”
I really tried not to think of him dripping wet from his shower but it still took me a couple of seconds to relay his invitation to Mia.
“Sorry I can’t, the sitter can’t stay over that late but you should definitely go out with them.” I didn’t want to abandon Mia in the parking lot like this, but she practically forced me to say yes and not soon after I was led through the arena by a security guard that Tyler had sent.
There was a group already waiting outside the locker rooms when I arrived, some of the guys greeting me enthusiastically. Roope even went as far as to lift me up so he could spin me around, saying that I was their good luck charm. I didn’t spot Tyler yet but I did see some of the girls so I made my way over to them. Some people must have already left, especially the players with kids, but the group was still big due to some of the rookies coming along as well.
I was just talking to Katie and Dominika about the game when I felt strong arms wrap around me from behind. By now I was very familiar with Tyler’s scent so I didn’t even hesitate before reaching up to put my hands on his forearms, tilting my head so I could smile up at him.
“We won so that means you can never miss a home game again”, he said and I laughed, not quite remembering that part of the agreement but also not willing to protest either.
The group must have finally been complete because now everyone was walking towards the exit, making a lot of noise and drawing looks from the few remaining employees.
I’d gotten my fair share of VIP treatment, money does solve a lot of problems after all, but yet I never really got used to the judging looks of people when security guards usher you through. The bouncers didn’t even question the presence of the rookies, even though some of them were definitely still underage, yet another bonus. It was the same club I’d been to with the girls a couple of weeks ago but up in the lounge everything was much more relaxed and the tables were actually clean.
“First round of shots is on me as a thank you for being so nice to me ever since I met all of you”, I called out before handing the waitress my credit card, loud cheering erupting from the rest of the group.
“Ooof our sugar mama, look at that shiny black”, Katie whooped and I just winked at her, receiving a kiss on the cheek in return. Meeting Tyler had been great in itself, but the friends I had made through him were a close second. I’d endure an eternity of unrequited feelings if it meant getting to keep everyone else in my life.
Several rounds of shots later I was out of breath from all the dancing, choosing to take a break in the lounge once again. Our group was split up by now, some lingering up here and others still tearing up the dance floor. I’d done my fair share of dancing as well, jumping around with the boys and pulling out the sexy moves with the girls. Hockey players definitely came in clutch for that part, as not a single guy came up to bother us, too scared of the human fridges that always kept a watchful eyes on us.
I’d danced with Tyler the most, his slight lack of rhythm being a great excuse to make him wrap his arms around me so I could ‘guide’ him. Perhaps I was a masochist after all.
I could spot Esa and Anna having a dance off with Klinger and Fanny from my spot against the railing and I watched them for a while before looking around some more.
Tyler was standing close to the bar, currently talking to one of his friends that had arrived some time after us. Tonight had been the first night where I could see his NHL fame in full action and it was both mesmerizing and terrifying to watch.
At all the other parties he’d known the other guests to some capacity at least so it wasn’t as bad, but tonight I got to watch girls literally throw themselves at him. Yes literally, I’d watched one of them ‘accidentally’ trip so he had to prevent her from falling not long ago. Some waited until I left his side, some just straight up didn’t care, interrupting our conversations or dancing without any regard for me. To my surprise I’d seen him turn down every single one of them so far but it was like a Roman battle formation, others always stepped up to close the gap. They were hot, there was no doubt about that and if I’d swing that way I’d definitely pick up some of them myself.
“I’m surprised Tyler let you out of his reach.” Roope’s voice ripped me out of my people watching trance and I looked up to him in question.
“I just overheard some of the rookies talking about how you’re fair game because they think that he hasn’t locked you down yet. I kinda want one of them to make a move so I can watch him put them in their place, he knows what’s going on.”
“You’re being mean. You were a rookie not so long ago.”
“Yeah and I had to deal with lots of shit so now it’s my turn.” I only shook my head at his ridiculousness, not really wanting to respond to his statement. Technically they were right and no matter how much I tried to convince myself of the opposite, that definitely stung a little bit.
“I’m being a good friend right now so I’m telling you that there’s this girl who’s been looking at you all evening and she looks like she’s nice. You could even braid each other’s hair,” I deflected, pointing towards the girl in question. Roope shoved me before flipping me off but his smile said that he’d go down to talk to her either way.
I chugged down the last few sips of my beer, quickly making my way back downstairs before any of the rookies could act out on their stupid idea. I doubted that Tyler would actually lash out at them if they did but I also didn’t want to tempt fate. Tyler waved me over as soon as he saw me walking down the stairs and I slowly made my way towards him, the writhing sweaty bodies and my height, or lack thereof, not helping at all.
I wasn’t even surprised anymore when he pulled me towards him as soon as I finally made it. Despite his bad boy looks I knew by now that he was a big teddy bear who loved to cuddle, the alcohol only making it worse. Or better, because he gave amazing hugs. He’d introduced me to his friend a while ago and I seamlessly slipped into their conversation until Tyler took me by surprise when he asked me if I was ready to leave yet. A closer look made it clear how exhausted he really was, his tired eyes not something I’d noticed up until this point.
“I honestly would’ve just gone straight home after the game but the others practically forced me to invite you along so I had no other choice because I wanted to spend some time with you”, he said once we had made ourselves comfortable in the backseat of the uber.
My heart was doing somersaults of course but my brain told me that it couldn’t keep up reminding me for much longer that there was no way he actually liked me back. I’d never been on this side of feelings and I definitely wasn’t handling it well.
