Sunburn
Length: 1.6k words
Genre: Fluff
Young Posse Sunhye x Male Reader
(Author's Note: Something short and sweet. Still working on that other draft I mentioned before :> Enjoy!)
【☆】★【☆】★【☆】★【☆】★【☆】★【☆】★【☆】★【☆】★【☆】★【☆】★【☆】★
“If only you applied yourself.”
“If only you paid more attention in class.”
“If only you stopped doodling in your notebook.”
The hum of the prehistoric monitor sitting before you is a familiar tune, yet one that doesn’t cease to fill you with dread. Every year, you’re met with the same song and dance about your troublesome grades, and every year, they think the best solution is to shove you into the computer lab for hours on end with the other unfortunate knuckleheads. It’s less of a summer school and more of an excuse to keep the “troublemakers” off the streets while the good little boys and girls get to actually enjoy their summer.
Admittedly, it could be worse. The geriatric dinosaur of a teacher always dozes off in the first 10 minutes of class, leaving the rest of you to your own devices. Everyone else has already formed their own little cliques that you have no desire to be a part of, so you’re content with messing around on MS paint for the better part of two hours.
You lean back in your chair, stretching out the pain in your lower back. Not your best work, but it’s the best you can do while drawing with a mouse.
“Cool drawing.”
“Hm?” Your head snaps towards the voice, being met with a soft pair of eyes and a modest bob cut, both of which are strikingly unfamiliar. “Oh. Thanks.”
“I like the shading and stuff. Makes it really pop.”
“Yeah…” you murmur awkwardly, unsure of what to make of this interaction. The girl gives you a nod before looking back at her own computer, watching some dance video with the volume muted. Has she always been sitting next to you?
The bell rings before you can linger on the moment any longer, and you’re out the door faster than the teacher can put on her glasses correctly. Right before the computer lab exits your view, you catch a glimpse of the girl snapping a photo of the drawing on your computer.
______________________________________________________________
“Hey!”
As you enter the computer lab once again, you see the same girl from yesterday eagerly waving you down. You look behind you to see if she’s talking to someone else, but nope, her vibrant gaze and buck toothed smile are aimed right at you.
“Um, hey.” You take your usual seat, which, unbeknownst to you for God knows how long, is right next to hers. “I’m sorry, do I know you?”
“I don’t know, shouldn’t you be asking yourself that?” she shoots back.
Her strange response leaves you stunned in your chair, searching your memory for a face that matches hers. Maybe she’s an old friend from your childhood or someone you’ve worked on a project with and promptly forgot about. However, nothing comes up other than the sudden interaction from yesterday.
“I guess… I don’t know you?” you say to yourself more than her. She chuckles at you, finding amusement in your confusion.
“I’ll make it easy for you: No, we’ve never met before yesterday.”
You sigh, already exhausted by her odd behavior. “Okay…” You pull up MS paint, hoping she’ll leave you alone, but of course, your prayers fall on deaf ears.
“What are you gonna draw today?” she asks, leaning a bit too close for comfort.
“Uh, I don’t know yet,” you reply, “Whatever comes to me, I guess.”
“Cool.” She nods in contemplation. “So, is that, like, your creative process or—”
“Hey, you two!” the teacher croaks out. “No talking!”
You give her an apologetic look, sinking deeper into your chair as the heat rushes to your cheeks from the unwanted attention. Hopefully the sudden spike in her blood pressure won’t keep her up longer than she usually is. The last thing you need is this octogenarian raisin breathing down your neck alongside the weirdo sitting next to you.
Thankfully, it doesn’t take long for her to knock out on her desk, albeit a couple minutes later than she usually does. A cautious glance to the side reveals the girl wearing big headphones, bobbing along to a music video on the computer, leaving you to doodle on the screen to your heart’s content.
You don’t really have a process for these things; if you’re given the luxury of time and solitude, maybe you’ll take a breath to figure out a clear picture to capture onto whatever canvas you’re working with. But on today of all days, you let the lines speak for themselves while you think about everything except drawing. What you had for breakfast this morning. What you’re planning on doing later. What the cute girl in your pre-calc class might be doing right now. Anything to pass the time that doesn’t involve more than a hint of effort to think about.
Oftentimes, the end product is a surprise to you. Whatever it is that you’ve been holding inside manifests itself onto the screen in a mess of lines and pixels. Last week, it was the piece of cake you had for dessert the night before. Yesterday, it was a character from a show you just started watching. Today, it’s…
“Is that me?”
A whisper from the side makes you jump in your seat. “W-what?”
“Your drawing.” The girl points up at your screen, wearing a thin smile and glint of intrigue in her eyes. “That looks like me.”
You scoff at her. “No, it’s not—” A single glance is all you need to learn the horrifying truth. Normally, anything you create with a mouse is subpar to what you can do with a pencil, but this - It’s way better than anything you could ever hope to produce on paper.
The soft texture of her hair, the gentle puff of her cheeks, hell, you even included the chunky headphones she’s wearing. You might as well have asked her to jump onto the screen for you.
“Th-that’s not… I-I didn’t…” you stutter, desperately searching for a reasonable explanation that you don’t have.
“It’s fine,” she says, Crushes are perfectly normal for boys your age.”
Heat rushes to your cheeks. “I-I don’t have a…! I don’t even know you!”
She reaches a hand towards you, flashing a cheeky smirk at your expense. “Sunhye.”
“Well, Sunhye,” you sneer, ignoring her attempt at a handshake, “It’s not you. It’s, uh, some other girl.”
“Right.” She raises an eyebrow at you, clearly not convinced. “Maybe you should stick to drawing, I don’t think your acting career will get very far.”
“W-whatever.” You hurriedly try to close out the window, ridding yourself of the mess that you accidentally created, but a soft touch against your hand sends a wave of electricity through your body, freezing you in place.
“Wait! Let me take a pic first!” Sunhye exclaims, her hand on top of yours. She snaps a picture, giggling to herself, while you’re left to sit there like an idiot.
“This is pretty cool, you should consider doing this for a living,” she teases.
“Uh… Yeah. Thanks.”
The bell rings, and you’re out the door before she can say another word. Not even the summer sun can compare to the heat dancing on your cheeks.
______________________________________________________________
The monotonous drone of the computers is a lot louder today without Sunhye bugging you. Peace at last, you think - but five minutes into class, before the teacher has even begun to nod off, you find yourself stealing glances at the empty seat next to you, almost expecting her to suddenly appear out of thin air.
A weird feeling finds its home in the pit of your stomach as you stare at the blank screen in front of you, void of any inspiration. You even consider actually doing your assignments for once to pass the time, but you’re not that bored. You have access to the entire world at your fingertips, yet all you can seem to do is rest your head on the table and wait until the bell rings.
“Let’s get out of here.”
A familiar voice whispers lightly against your ear, you almost believe it to be a trick of the mind. And yet, the hand nudging against your shoulder feels very, very real.
You look up, finding yourself face to face with a soft pair of eyes and a modest bob cut. “What?” you ask her.
“I said let’s get out of here,” Sunhye reiterates. “It’s clear neither of us are here to do any actual work, so let’s go.”
“B-but…” You take a quick scan of the room. The teacher is knocked out and the rest of the students are doing what they’ve always done, paying the two of you no mind. It would be so easy to just dip out without a second thought. Too easy not to raise a few red flags, really.
“Where would we even go?”
She shrugs. “I don’t know. Who cares?”
A cheeky grin grows on your face, mirroring the expression she’s been holding this whole time. You’re not the smartest person on the planet, and no amount of schooling or stern talking-to’s will ever change that. Maybe you’re not destined to be some bigwig doctor, but surely there’s more to life than sitting in front of a computer and waiting for something to happen, right?
And so, you take this strange girl’s hand and you run like crazy until your legs feel like anchors and each breath creates fire in your lungs. Your shoes squeak against the linoleum floor before meeting the heated concrete outside, each step punctuated with a kick of dust in its wake. In the moment, it feels like sweat stains and burning skin, but it’s all very picturesque in your memory, frame by frame ripped straight from a stylistic indie film. In the sea of summers spent wasting your time, this one feels like the first cold shock of dipping your toe into the ocean, waking you up to experience the rest of your life with open eyes.

Melly, if you draw on the computer/pc, do you actually connect a drawing tablet to it do you literally just use MS Paint???
I don't usually draw on my computer, I usually use procreate on my ipad, but due to being too lazy to go grab it, I just did shitty bill drawings I basically never use my computer, I used a mouse for that tho

alterhuman journal - #1 - "common" theriotypes
I've decided I'm gonna start typing out my thoughts when it comes to being alterhuman because I still feel like there are a lot of things I still haven't figured out yet. :'D this is just the most convenient and quickest way I get to jot down thoughts and feelings. Feel free to read, no pressure to interact but a like is appreciated!
A huge problem I have with the therian community in recent times is the emphasis on "common" and "uncommon" theriotypes, like being a wolf/cat/dog vs any other animal. It really upsets me because I'm sure it makes a lot of people insecure about their theriotypes, including myself. :(
As of lately I've been feeling a drift between myself and my maned wolf theriotype. I get a feeling that it doesn't fit anymore, or that it never fit in the first place and I just didn't want to be "like everyone else". I knew I had a canine theriotype, but of course I didn't want to go to the gray wolf immediately because "everyone is a wolf", right?
It also got me thinking about how my theriotypes are even a thing. Like, how did I end up this way? I've been reflecting on it a lot recently and I think I'm starting to create a better picture of why I am the way that I am.
I think I experience therianthropy in the spiritual AND psychological way for different species. I believe my deer theriotype to be spiritual, 100%. I was a deer in one of my past lives; to me, that's what makes it make sense. But I believe my canine theriotype is different, I think it may be psychological?
I believe it stems from when I was young, with unrestricted access to the internet, lol. I didn't have many friends as a kid and spent most of my summers alone, at home. I took comfort in YouTube, watching artists animate their OCs and write stories of wolves and cats and dogs. I would draw my own on MS Paint with a mouse. It's all I really had, since I didn't have much in the way of toys either. The toys I did have were of course also animals.
Basically, I think I kinda imprinted on animals? I rarely was interested in media that had human characters as a kid. I only cared about humanoid characters if they were anthros, or an elf or something. Perhaps it stems from how other humans treated me as a child? I'm not sure. But I know from a very young age that I just couldn't relate to humans the way I would with animals in media. A lot of talk on why wolf/canine theriotypes are so common comes down to the media, and I do agree. Canines have been a close human companion for a long time, and I believe humans and canines share more similarities than people realize.
I don't really know where else to go with this entry, but that's what's been going through my head lately in regards to therianthropy. I'm still trying to find my canine theriotype, but for now I usually tell people "wolf", even if it isn't entirely accurate (yet). Don't be afraid to let your identity flow and ebb, otherwise you're just chaining yourself to the past.

Draw it again challenge.
Kori's second design ever, being from October 24, 2013. It was a 'fancier' outfit so her hair, which was usually rough, was smoothed back in this design, and she wore a long coat. The buckles and ribbons in her hair were different than her uniform outfit, with one ribbon instead of two, and no red buckles present this time.
Besides the dragon wings getting swapped for her dragonfly wings, and her eye color switched to her official one, the intent of the design has stayed the same from original to redraw. This time, however, I have the artistic ability to draw it. Original was drawn in MS Paint with a mouse. Redraw drawn in Paint Tool SAI with a drawing tablet.
#kori has always been my dress up oc it seems.#im gonna be honest though i did NOT know how eyeshadow worked. that is an entire graphic liner kori. put that down.#anyways i love doing draw it again challenges. theyre so fun and i live seeing the improvement. in this case its a whole decade!#thats gonna be strange going forward. up until now i havent really had human oc art to compare to from a decade ago.#bc my first human ocs as a proper try was in late 2013#im proud of my improvement this decade. looking forward to many more.#drawing#artists on tumblr#drawings#manga#anime#artist#mangaka#original character#rkgk#original character art#kori omoide#myrios series#2013 art#draw it again#draw it again challenge#redraw#old art#oc art#oc artist#oc drawing#art improvement

okay I gotta tell yall about my composition sketches lol
so
before I start a big art piece, I do a composition sketch. this is just an extremely quick, extremely low quality doodle, usually on snapchat or ms paint, where I lay out the figures in the drawing so that when I do the actual sketch, I’ll have an idea of where to put everything. I don’t really show people these because they look really dumb, and seeing one while I’m working on a big piece is kind of like looking at a guy half into a disney mascot suit without the mickey mouse head on. nobody wants to see that. however, they’re so hilarious next to the finished pieces that I kinda have to share them
so here we have
beetlejuice
sweeney todd
and now I just started one for a “psycho” piece
this one’s gonna be fun

hey guys, so I recently broke my phone, which is what I usually use for Tumblr and art. I won't be able to respond to asks, messages, and reblogs as fast as usual. Regarding Zote, I will continue to draw him every day until my phone comes back fixed, but art will have to be made in MS Paint with a mouse.

Hey I’m trying to get into digital art and wanted to know if you know any good free apps for laptops that you would recommend?
hiya! :D krita is one of the best ones available rn since you can both draw and animate on it, i usually just use ibis paint on my phone but if i ever switch to my laptop krita’s one of my favorites (crumb cuptoast uses it too)
there’s also firealpaca but personally it’s not my favorite to use, and gimp which is basically free photoshop but it can be complicated and overwhelming for beginners (even if you’re used to photoshop) but if you’re looking for something similar there is photopea! (web browser only i think?)
i use ms paint 3D, blender, and block bench from time to time for 3D things but i think paint 3D is the easiest of all of them (it’s meant for work / school so it’s not the best program but it’s pretty neat)
honorable mentions: cursor.cc the website for making your own mouse cursor icon and whiteboardfox another website for drawing that’s just meant for work things (you get to draw with other people)
glhf!

I really love your drawings and just wonder how did you learn to draw like that?
I'm so happy to know you do enjoy my art, it really makes my day a bit better so, thank you very much for letting me know that! <3
Well, I don't know if ever mentioned it before but I'm a self-taught artist like many other people in the art community.
I started drawing as soon as I was able to hold a pen in my hand haha soo.. pretty early I guess. Throughout my childhood I've been drawing traditionally and by the age of 12 (when my mom bought us the first computer) I discovered MS Paint (software that I've been using all these years until today). Due to financial reasons I've never had a graphic tablet (still don't have one today even tho now I can go buy one, I don't need one anymore lol) or any fancy tablets/ devices to digitally draw sooo... I had to learn all the tough work with nothing but a shaky hand and freaking mouse.
I've been passively studying art (anatomy, proportions, shadowing/lighting, color pallets, etc.) just by looking at other digital artist's works for years. I'd always try to understand and memorize their concepts to later apply them in my own art to reach the same effectiveness??? or to basically be able to look at my own art for more than 3 seconds before I irreversibly throw it in a Folder of tears and shame lmao.
Finding a satisfying original style wasn't easy either as I've been fluctuating a lot through years and even months. (there's a big difference in how my drawings looked just 2 months ago and how they look right now). For a very long time I had a 'cute animu' phase... style? that I used to enjoy then it slowly turned into a more 'dramatic/ angsty' style then into a more semi-realistic style that's my current artstyle. I guess I finally found what works the best for me as I'm slowly starting to enjoy my drawings lol. I'm the worst critic to myself but I'm working on it.
Practice.
I make sure that no matter what, I draw something everyday. This is the holy concept that I make sure to apply every single day. It doesn't matter if I'm not in the mood or bored or whatever, I always make time to at least sketch/ doodle something. It helps greatly in the long run and I usually come back to thank myself for doing that.
That's pretty much all I do since I was a kid and discovered digital art. 'Gaze at other's art and practice, practice, practice.'
Hope that's a 'good enough' answer, anon! Have a great day! ^^

Old Art Time!
This was the first piece I ever did in fire alpaca. I didn't have a tablet yet, so I was still using a mouse. This was my attempt to see if I could make what i usually did in MS Paint work in Fire Alpaca.
I liked the piece but didn't end up making the switch to fire alpaca until I had a drawing tablet. Partially because it took 3 times as long to draw and really hurt my wrist.

Have you ever tried drawing in MS-paint with a touch-pad/mouse?
The result may not be perfect, but it might get the ideas out of your head, until you can get something better to redraw them with later.
Totally did, totally will do later. No time u-u
Also I tend to not come back to things I already drew. Usually I use the mouse when I'd actually like the art to look bad or wonky. I like to have fun with it! On this blog both mouse art and non-dominant hand art can be found.
Both are used for either comedic or unsettling effect ^^
#Usually I use ballpoint pen or pencil or graphics tablet#I also just. Don't have much time for art rn#Ask post#Me usually making one-time or 2-3 session arts with no redraw value is prolly why colored art is so rare#I know how finished/full art should go and I haven't had energy for that one in long long Years#I did a couple anyway ^^#Zine art and comm art are some of those

Oh! That explains a lot!
Whenever I draw, and I finish it, I always think "yeah, this is great!", but looking at it later (like, a day or two later) the whole thing looks like I drew it in ms paint with a mouse instead of with a drawing tablet with professional software T-T
And ik I'm not the best artist at all but it's really disheartening... and I've usually already posted it or I just won't go back to fix it. But I think you're right... I'm not looking at it from an outside perspective or looking at the things I did right, I'm looking at all the things that were wrong.
Sooooo, thanks op! I think maybe... my next piece won't be such a headache.
I just had a small epiphany why you might like other people’s art more than your own:
It’s the lack of suspension of disbelief.
When you see something someone else has drawn or painted, you take in the content faster than you take in the technical aspects. You experience it as pseudo-real, the same way you stop perceiving animated characters as drawn or book characters as written as you get into the story.
On the other hand, when you yourself have made something, all you see is the machine behind the theater, so to speak. You’re probably thinking about lines, shading, coloring in a “does this make sense? Is this the best decision I could have made?”-kind of way.
I think that’s also why sometimes, pictures you haven’t looked at for a long time starts looking nice to you again, à la: “Hey past-me was unto something! Why can’t I replicate it nowadays?”. It’s probably specifically because you’ve forgotten the process of making it that you are now seeing it with fresh eyes.
Art is an illusion, but a magician has a hard time tricking themself. So don’t be so hard on yourself: it’s probably just that you can’t see the magic right now, but that doesn’t mean it’s not there.
