Coming back to tell you how much I love that little comic with the Chosen Hero and the Hero of Men. There's no dialogue, but it still has a strong sense of sadness and hope. And the parallels between the two are fantastic, I really wish Nintendo gave us more information about what happened between Skyward Sword and Minish Cap because now I'm really thinking about it and how whatever happened had to be pretty scary if the Hero of Men decided it was in everyone's best interest for him to yoink the Chosen Hero's sacred sword from its temple.

All those words to say your art is wonderful and I'm thinking about it and the piece of LoZ lore it represents. ❤️

Ohhhh my go yesssss I would give my life to know more about the hero of men,,, its literally crazy to me that there’s a link that’s just. There. No game no story no nothing. WHO IS THAT TELL ME?? Thinking about who he could’ve been is one of the joys of life but it tends to feel more like writing an OC than expanding on known lore, bc be barely have any,,,

Actually, Ill use this to ramble about what I do tend to think for him here, hope that’s okay!!

I love love love that u said that what was happening during the hero of men’s time had to be pretty scary, bc YEAH. To pull the sword of the first hero and first king of Hyrule (^.^) who probably would kill to not have fi be woken up is CRAZYYYY,,, either he’s oblivious or in a really bad situation,,, What is known about him leaves to believe that he was a knight tho, and they 100% knew about fis resting ground,, It is said that the world was about to be swallowed by evil, which makes me think Botw final cutscene or sksw final girahim type severity of monster floods. So I think hom (ill refer to the hero of men like this for now) link probably saw getting the sacred, legendary master sword as his only chance at saving hyrule.

Idk if he would’ve know himself to be the legendary hero reborn due to triforce mark, maybe he just stumbled across it in an attempt to hide some injured knights in the temple of hylia,,,, Side note on the temple of hylia, love the abandoned look in the comic but it doesn’t really make sense, does it? Bc why would sksw Link want fis resting place to not be well kept? Would he visit before his passing?

Anyway, he takes the sword defeats the monster hoards and gives hyrule a brief moment of safety. He’s made into a high ranking knight or maybe head of the knights (he’s probably rather young still, as that seems to be a theme for the chosen hero and priestess, so maybe late teens, and before having the master sword he was a knight in training?) and then, when the picori/minish come down to earth (i dunno from where, was that ever said? Just from the skies i thiinkkk,,,) he gets the picori blade and I think the light force from them. It’s similar use does bring up the question why hom link would use the picori blade over the master sword,, maybe because its a gift and the master sword is like this sacred sword meant to rest and that got him feeling bad hahaha,, Hom link trapped the monsters rather than killing them but I can’t remember if the trapped them in the sword or the chest or somewhere else hmm,,, the sword later turns into the four sword right? (I’m so sorry im too lazy rn to do research 😭) I don’t think hom link would’ve been able to use it as this tho, i think he never got it to a point like this, just used it to save the world once and then gave it away for the contest ^^ In one of the stained glass the sword he gets DOES look like the four sword but i am going to ignore that bc I think i can.

Also, for reasons that I can’t (don’t want to) talk about rn I personally would change it being the 50th anniversary of the Picori Festival instead of the 100th ^.^ also I think hom link would stay a close friend to the royal family partially to protect the holder of the light force which was sealed into his Zelda i think and passed down to her children and their children yk,, and don’t tell anyone I said this but he is alive during minish cap and ezlo was one of the minish that gave him the blade during the Force era ;)

I also think the minish weren’t really ever introduced to the public but instead kept in strict contact to the royal family and those they trusted, which is why during mc basically no one knows about them, and those that once did are already fairly old or dead.

I care about Rose! In fact, we started watching house of dragon (only 2 episode so far though) and it constantly makes me think of Rose because you use it as inspiration. Like obviously there’s the coronation scene which reminds me of stars. And there’s the character Willum is sorta kinda inspired by. And it’s an entirely different world, but every time I’m drawn back to Rose wondering how things will play out. (Which is not pressure to finish writing it if you don’t want to. Writer’s block can be a bitch and I get that the motivation for this project has been sucked out, but I just want you to know that I still care, and I’m not the only one.)

Also, I’ve been meaning to start my Ready, Set, Detonate analysis but I keeps getting away from me. I’m not sure there will be much to analyse, but there’s definitely fun details I want to point out. Oh and I am Looking 👀 at the fit/pac tag and kicking my feet. I don’t actually know if they are already in a relationship (I’m sure we’ll find out, but I just loved Fit’s little “Pac’s here?” That man is gone. Oh and I’m so excited for this Tubbo and to read more Bagi and the lore. Just all of it.

Then the original writing is a mood. I keep getting like a few chapters into my story before deciding it’s not good enough or thinking of something else I could do and throwing it all out. It’s this constant loop that never seems to get anywhere even though the story gets more and more fleshed out in my head every time. I think it’s because the opportunities are endless. Like there’s no characters and personalities and dynamics to stick to like there is in fan fiction. It’s free game but that does mean you have to decide everything yourself.

Anyway, best original writing advice I can give is remember the drafting process. There’s going to be a shit ton of drafts, which feels different for you because you’ve been mostly writing stories and posting them as you go, which means some minor or major editing, but leaves you without a chance to do a once over. It’s a sort of pressure to get everything right the first time. Meanwhile, original writing is something you keep close to your chest. There’s different drafting stages ranging from the zero draft (aka excessive daydreaming about all the possibilities) to the final draft (where you just go through and kill all your darlings and pour over ever single word to find the right one).

I’m struggling a lot with the first draft, which is literally just getting words onto a page. It’s a somewhat coherent mess that just allows you to shape the story and its structure so you can work off of that and edit it later on. I don’t know if this actually helps, but yeah, the first draft sucks and then it mostly gets easier. Just write, is kinda shitty advice, but it’s mainly, just get words onto a page, you will get a million chances to fix it, you don’t need to be happy about what you wrote right now.

Ohhhh, that's a good one! I'm not sure if anyone knows this, but the first fanfic I ever published was on ffnet!

HOWEVER, the first fanfic I ever wrote (which was on an old legal yellow pad written in sharpie) was for Sharkboy and Lavagirl.

Yes, not even joking.

If I remember correctly, I think I wrote about Sharkboy and Lavagirl having a child (forgot the gender???) and how their child was going to save the world. It's basically a next gen au that was badly written and never saw the light of day hahaha!

14. what’s your worst writing habit? 

Oohhhhh! I already wrote an answer to that exact question! (That is to say, I don't do rewrites even thought that is pretty beneficial and pretty much necessary for people who aspire to be publishing original fiction). However, I'll give another worst writing habit!

Since I mostly focus on writing fanfic... Sometimes, I write fanfic for fandoms that I haven't touched in years. Like, I'll write something for Hetalia or Death Note and I just go off the memories and the feelings that I get from when I used to be obsessed with them. Of course, there are times when I need to rewatch certain scenes or look up quotes, but most of the time, I don't go and rewatch animes, reread books, or rewatch playthroughts of the fandoms I write fanfic for.

(I have yet to be called out for mischaracterization, so I must either have a good memory or my writing is just that good!)

66. when have you felt the most confident in your writing? 

Never???

I mean, I don't feel trepidation when writing or uploading my fanfic, but at the same time, I don't feel overly proud or confident in my work? It's not that I'm proud of myself, but I feel like... I've reached a plateau?

Like, I know I write well. I know that I have the skill to fully convey what I have in my mind's eye and transcribe it into written form. I know what my writing is worth and I'm satisfied with it.

If you mean an aspect of my writing and not the publishing-for-the-entire-world-to-see aspect... I think I write dialogue, setting, and background lore well? All of them took years to hone, but I think I'm correct in saying that I have improved over the decade or so I've been writing my work.

73. how do you visualize scenes? do you see it like a movie in your head, or do the words just flow?

Another good question! It's a combination of both! S

ometimes, I'll get.. not visions, per se, but I'll see characters blocked a certain way, saying certain things that I need to write them down. Other times, my internal monologue will be overtaken by what seems to be an ever evolving script that I can hear and will only go away once I put that monologue into actual, tangible writing.

It's one or the other at times, but it's pretty fun, especially when my hands finally join in the fun and get to pick out what stays in my head and what actually gets transcribed onto the page.

28. handwritten notes or typed notes?

Oohhhhh! I'm not sure if this is common knowledge or not??? I feel like I've told people this, but I write my stories on paper first! And then I transcribe them into Microsoft Word/Google Doc once the majority of the story has already been written!

Handwritten notes seem more personal? And I'm not distracted by the bright lights and the open ended nature of a laptop.

That said, there are times when my hadnwriting is a trial in and of itself when I have to reread them lol.

Do y'all like fantasy? A potential E2L plot? Interesting side plots being set up?

This might be the fic chapter for you! We start off right in an action tense scene, little bits of exposition fed to you as our main character starts their quest. It's such an interesting way to start off the book and I found myself quickly getting into the action rather than wading through mellow scenes which really helped with getting me right into the world Ella's weaving!

And I am so curious about the world building we do get! In the bits and pieces we get, I find myself wondering and wondering about the ways in which the world has been set up! There is so much lore we get and even with the stuff we get, I find myself super curious about what the world is like! Don't give me Tolken level lore but I cannot wait for more lore!

Thoughts on Dark Fortress #2

(This post is under a cut due to spoilers.)

So late with this one! some stuff irl was keeping me really busy and hyper-distracting me lately, but it’s finally over now so I’m back on my bioware bullshit. :D

Overall there were a lot of beautiful or awe-inspiring scenes in this issue, and a lot of great, meaningful / poignant character interactions and moments between characters. It’s pretty impressive actually how much was able to be packed in. I posted some of my favorite panels here. also omg! the action sequences! the big reveal! the ending!! woww

cool scene-setting, panned out shot of Neromenian and behind it, the Dark Fortress, to immediately pull you back into the world and ‘where we left off’. the combination of ruined dead trees, red lights, lightning and fire/smoke is very atmospheric and hints at what’s ahead

“From this... city, if we can call it that” is a sick burn and reminds you that the Qunari are technologically more advanced than most of the rest of Thedas, from their cannons to their aqueducts

more individually distinct Qunari soldiers, sth I again appreciate

! last issue there were big ‘You haven’t seen the last of Tractus!’ vibes, naturally, but I didn’t expect him to escape by stabbing and killing the Qunari using a chair-leg..!!

the last panel on the first page of Karasten is really good. the way it’s colored, the way it’s lit, the light and shadow, the fiery backdrop, cinders floating, the details of his expression.. 👌 it also makes me think to the possible future, to DA4 when mainland Thedas may be continuing to face the entirety of the Antaam

in Vaea’s acrobatics scene on the bridge, I know rationally that she’ll be fine but couldn’t help but worry for her. again I like how they don’t shy away from showcasing Vaea’s specific abilities. also the attention to detail - you’d think some rocks are just some rocks, but it highlights the risk she’s undertaking that if she falls it’s into rough seas which could dash her against the jagged rocks :’S. Vaea, gooooo!

Fenris’ “Enterprising girl” line has big “Clever girl” meme energy :D

my heart can’t take Fran and Autumn leaning over the edge after Vaea in worry ;; or Aaron looking back in concern over his shoulder ;; or Fran’s tender reassurance ;; or Autumn’s Worried expression ;; the care and bonds which have grown between this group of characters ;;

notice Aaron starts drinking when Vaea’s away from them and they’re beginning to grow worried about her safety. the poor man’s nerves and stress levels

Fran touching the vegetation while she’s considering if she could use her magic to open the entrance from the outside is a nice touch

did Marius leap in front of Fenris and Fran there when the entrance opened?? damn, he’s quick. and the three of them look all scary and formidable here ready for combat. notice how the curve of the door and the spikes that go into the ground, and the composition of this panel, make it look like they’re standing in front of an opened dragon’s maw? ‘teeth’, a rumbling ‘roar’.. some nice foreshadowing here.

the reunion panels are so cute. Autumn’s lil tum as she jumps and Fran and Fenris’ lil smiles of relief and at Autumn’s reaction to seeing Vaea, then a rare happy beam from Aaron.. feel.. the love ;__;

red lighting in the tunnel sets a dangerous, dramatic build-up mood

👀 more info on Fenris’ past, on the specifics of the process which gave him his markings. in the panel where he says that it took a long time, his shadow on the wall behind him reminds me of the shadow of his past that has dogged him for so long :(

Autumn is such an intrepid little explorer and alert scout, tail and ears up, head forward. good girl!

“I just... worry about you, my girl”  ‧º·(˚ ˃̣̣̥⌓˂̣̣̥ )‧º·˚  I’ll be so sad if these are death flags for Aaron and he doesn’t make it out of here. also note Fran in this panel, who recently had to kill her own father and is still dealing with that, watching the strongly paternal moment between Aaron and Vaea :(

love Vaea’s faith in Aaron and her sense of humor. also I don’t know why, maybe it’s because Vaea met Sebastian, but her “Maker, no!”, although in a completely different and light-hearted context, reminds me of Sebastian’s “Maker nooo!” at the end of DA2 hh

the reference again to Hawke, who Fenris saw haunted by what they tried to do - save their mother - and couldn’t :’(. also with the shadow in this panel, here’s another person struggling with the shadow of his past qq. this is later emphasized again in Aaron when he continues to talk about his past and in the panel is a chain and manacle. smart visual metaphors, a must in the comic medium with limited space

It’s about their impact” - he’s misty-eyed here as he thinks back to Ostagar.. does this line btw seem almost meta to anyone else btw? :D it feels like a meta reference to the experience of DA players and PCs, who are always having to deal with the impacts of their choices

I wanna point out that I was right on reading issue #1, when I said “I’m positive that in panel 2 here, it’s the exact moment when he sees Cailan die” ;;

So Aaron is also a veteran of the Battle of Denerim

reference to the Hero of Ferelden - “Those were someone else’s battles”. I’m being captain obvious here but I can’t help but [heart pitter-patter] at any and all references to the HoF

I like the.. parallel? is that the word? Aaron’s stories were him trying to inspire people to make a change, or him trying to convince himself of that. and now here’s Vaea, inspiring Aaron with her words in these panels. the little guys can make a difference! in the world of Thedas, you don’t need to be a big bombastic hero or a Player Character to have an impact 

lmao Fenris right on cue. the moments of humor/light-heartedness are nice because they break up the tension and are sprinkled throughout without derailing build-up or taking away from dramatic story impact. yknow?

👀 lore-drop! so ancient elven arcane warriors used lyrium-infused swords. this seems to confirm the sarcophagus is an ancient elven artifact, no? makes sense, wasn’t it said that the sarcophagus’ design was based on the architecture/outfit-design type elements of a specific faction, and that this was done intentionally? it looks kinda ancient elfy in make, right? also about the lyrium-infused swords of the arcane warriors, well well well.. remember that the Evanuris and the ancient elves mined the bodies of Titans for lyrium, for power and to use as a resource. here’s an example of that use

lore-wise what are the implications here? when Fenris’ ritual was being undertaken, the sword and the sarcophagus were bombarded with magic, fire spells. in this one they aim to have the dragon bombard it with fire-breathing. is it just fire that makes it work/powers it, or is there magic in dragonfire, in dragons? it reminds me of “Your heart beats with the old blood, as well. Where do you think it comes from? It sings of a time when dragons ruled the skies. A time before the Veil, before the mysteries were forgotten. Can you hear it?”

and separate to the above, some speculation based on the cover of Issue 3: the piece of metal looks like a broken collar coming off Shirallas, like the one there was on the cover of Issue 2 coming off the dragon. also he’s all bulky now with draconic talons/claws (reminds me of in-world legends of Reavers who dug too deep of their own power after drinking dragon blood and whose bodies consequently began to manifest subtle reptilian traits actually). I’ll be interested to see what results of this allusion between Shirallas and the dragon!!

So I found a walkthrough of “The Phantom Fable” and its reaction time

I like how connie has no patience for the townies.

It also has just a lil bit of plot like lore about the various magitech artifacts (It's interesting that gems from Peridot's generation aren't really that familiar with them anymore) and Steven is still recognizeably in his season 4 slump. Also even though the book is supposed to be super old there's a lot of those triangular sigils around - is the book so old that it's from before PD came to be?

Really excited about the potential for lore speculation from these new locations! So they were researching magic in this place! It does look like your archetypical mage tower with all the bookshelves and aqueducts though the apocalyptic log on the computer says "mad science", and it seems like some mage gem went behind the Diamonds' backs because even they thought this was too dangerous. One always wonders how the weird magic artifacts from the early seasons fits into the greater canon. 

Video games tend to be good at this "environment-based storytelling" but this is actually presented pretty well in a sorta melancholy haunting manner between the BGs, the music, the "ghost" of that unfortunate Pearl, various scattered hints that only sort of form a whole. Perhaps the uppity mage gem was Lonely Pearl's master....

OUCH from what I'd read it seems like they just "forgot" her/ didn't care enough to go back for her before the corruption attack but this seems like a way more complex story, like more of an individual act of cruelty/ deliberate punishment. 

The mage gem deliberately "forgot" her while leaving the outpost, but it was HER who betrayed the empire. The mage gem was deliberately cruel, too, telling her that she would be coming back. 

Lonely Pearl was basically being an upstanding citizen, reporting foul play to the Diamonds. 

That is, if they even had the right "traitor" at all. Did they just assume it was her because of something like a “gossip hen” stereotype?

But from how she acts she seems pretty devoted like her master was her whole world - maybe they got the wrong traitor and she was innocent all along. Or she tattled because she was concerned about her master's own safety. In any case they really done her dirty

In any case I’m not even sure this took place on Earth. Did she just go nuts/feral all by herself? If so this is the first time we’ve seen that, seems like it was more some recording of wherever the magic book was made. Was this a recording? Is the real her still trapped out there or did the book absorb her out of pity? Where is she now if she’s anywhere at all? Or was it all an illusion?

It’s a nice Detail that it couldn’t capture Steven and Connie because, as Lapis and Peridot theorize, it doesn’t know how to ‘categorize’ them. 

The taglines for the GUYS and GALS were genuinely funny IMHO

It does seem to be earth tho. The desert too. Come to think of it, were the structures in the desert Pink Diamond’s former palace? Since she parked her ship there and was lurking around there without telling the others. Eyeball DID use to be part of her guard. 

If this all takes place on Earth this means Lonely Pearl is either still at the research facility or in the bubble room/ set to beuncorrupted. 

The rest of the squad was Era II tho none of them had really heard of PDs shattering, Leggy was implied to be fresh from the ground. (Which implies that both Rebel Ruby and Eyeball are in fact relatively old for Rubies. As footsoldiers it figures that they’d have one of the higher attrition rates)

And as usual their lines are comedic gold and full of personality Sand in my shorts lol

Perhaps in reality it was actually eyeball, but with a different squad of Rubies that are now long dead. 

Maybe i’s an erised/ Xion type situation. Steven sees the Ruby Squad, Garnet might be seeing CG Ruby’s old comrades. 

In any case they seem to be guarding an artifact - presumably the book - so it “wont fall into rebel hands”. Interesting. 

This whole level has a very zeldaesque feel to it, there’s even pots to smash! I suppose the first one could then be likened to final fantasy. 

No wait that’s the era II sigil. So this here is definitely late in the war.

“Glyph of Illusion”, hm? So now the trippyness shall become interactive

UGH there’s bits of uncessesful specimens all over. 

Note that there’s those red, vein-like “powerlines”, but they look more like the ones in the temple than the ones seen in various Era II structures

So they were sent to gather the last remaining research data and leave not witnesses - I mean clearly the Rebels never found out until Peridots arrival

Too bad we won’t know which of them said which of the Megaruby’s lines

In the end our heroes are not sure how much of this was real - but we all know there were fusion experiments. Maybe even the book only knew so much

Kinda curious where Amethyst has gotten to. Since we did both the distant past and the middle of the war. The sequence breaking in the forest and the beach is also kinda interesting.

Looks like somewhere cold. There’s some random Quartzes but otherwise not much plot here. It’s like they ran out of ideas

I like the common theme that for each level the first half was named something vaguely mystical as it might look to an outside observer, and then the second bit is a crisp, spartan designation once the MCs figure out what it is. The duality of man gemkind, I suppose, though they really are kinda spartan as whole at least the mainstream/monarchist faction. 

Figures that there would be more kindergartens than just the two since we haven’t seen he one where the earth-grown Rose Quartes came from. Since this is delta that one must’ve been Gamma. Might not even exist anymore. 

That would mean there were four. One orange, one purple, one pastel, and one for the actual!rose quartzes. 

There’s a mean Jasper but it’s not OUR mean Jasper. Why are eye gems all.. like that?

Ahhh I see. They’re hunting a group of off-colors. Possibly rebellious off-colors.

So far I was thinking that maybe the book spirit, excuse me, Fable, decided to record shameful occurences or maybe parts of gem history that were not so great aside from just recording the glory, perhaps even out of sympathy/emphasizing with the outcasts but as of now it seems more like she’s simply lonely

Poor Steven, it was mindfuckey how she offered to let him see his dead mom. He sorta feels pretty ambiguous about her so he’d probably be more frighteed by that prospect, but I’d say this would have worked on many a Standard Protagonist, like if this were Harry Potter or Shinji Ikari? napped.

Book-ception?! Fairly typical twist at this point but it would’ve been a waste not to do it. So they were napped after all, and put with all the humans in beach city

It’s interesting that she perceives Steven as “being unable to resist an adventure” but framed more in terms of the thrill than just chronic-hero-syndrome.

Now we are getting bullethell-sy for the final battle. Even the music is vaguely undertale-ish. i mean with how you have to get the one green bomb to defeat her that does kinda seem deliberate

Ashes of the Old World Session Branch 13-B Part 1

Time: Sometime after Session 12 Characters: Zealous Terminator

Starting things off for the hell of it, Zealous, You're in Anxe, a city known for being really tall and built out of mostly towers, the excited comradery and celebration of the populace is fairly loud after the wierd spider invasion has been fought off recently in part thanks to your "friends" , Your "friends" are currently having to deal with tarnocks trial coming up, something about a guard going missing, as you might have been told by uncle ashara, either while he was drunk or slightly less drunk, either way you have free reign to explore, what do you do? 

"Hm, I wonder where everyone is at right now?" I wonder quietly as I step through a door, looking about himself to get an idea of what the whole place looks like at this time of the day. At this very moment, I felt like actually exploring the library for some books on famous wrestlers. Hopefully I can find some interesting lore.

The library is a dusty bastard, people with pointy hats and vaguely important looking educational based cloths filling these halls, probably from various schools and colleges, while not a large buidling its pretty sizable and presumably chock full of books on various subjects, >Roll some hot saucy Investigation check to look for your desired books

While few books you find have the term "Wrestler", You find atleast five in total revolving around arena games and pit fighting, One actually going into a specific biography about one of these participants in these games "Sexy Fred" detailing how sexy he was and the force at which he ripped opponents in two and danced beautifully after victory, two of the books have two different accounts by two seperate authors about the start of competive fighting stating there own home town as the start of it, contradicting each other atleast every respective chapter, The remaining two are ledgers holding lentghly lists of known "wrestlers" or "arena fighters"

"This sounds fun." I stated as I flipped through the pages, "This Sexy Fred sounds quite livid." After few minutes of reading into it, I had already begun to form ideas in my head. This... "arena games" and "pit fighting" sounds like something I should look into. I turn to the nearest coneheads which are also deemed as guardians of the library. "Hey, where can I find pit fights?" I ask.

The nearest conehead, A halfling with freckles all round thier face and bright orange hair almost going down to thier feet, confusidly looks to Zealous, she looks tired trying to determine if shes even awake after just glancing at him for a couple seconds, with the only immediate response being, "....what?"

I sigh out of exasperation. I do not know why this young lady is telling me her troubles with school and finances. I just want directions to a pit fight, or an arena. "Right... I don't know what an algebra is either, but if it's important, you might as well learn it." I stroke my orange beard out of frustration. Right then, I might be best be off to find a place that sells or gives information about maps. Wait, I am at library. I slap my forehead and began to search for maps.

Yeah don't even roll for that, they got maps, theres even a large sign saying MAPS, at the reception desk

I pick up the map and began to look through them for locations of the pit fights and arena games. I am on a mission ladies and gents! Zealous Terminator is coming!

There is actually several in and around Anxe, Roughly Thirteen competing ones in the lower city tier, Three in the mid city tier and one large one in the highest tiers

Assuming I am already on the lower city tier... I am going to go ahead and visit one of the thirteen pit fights then work my way around from there. Hm, I wonder if I should be concerned with Tarnock's trial? I should be looking for evidences to help him break free. Oh well! TO THE PIT FIGHTS!

The Richard Butter Slam, Is the fighting pit you come up to first, it looks a little bit in disrepair, wooden boards covering atleast two destroyed windows,

A small line out front, A bugbear with yellow spots, A father and his five children, An elf, and various more nameless npcs  large bouncers standing at the door 

I sure hope these bouncers don't recognize me. By their sizes, I should be able to slip by easily between their legs!

With a prideful grunt, I walk into the fight club! As upon entry, what do I see?

Zealous should be able to gaze upon, A bunch of chairs and tables filled with people, Surrounding a platform created by just having a bunch of crates pushed together, there is what looks like a fishing net at each side of the crate platform, This building clearly wasn't intended for this kind of activity but was makeshiftedly turned into it.

There is two people fighting inside the platform currently one with a club and the other punching him real hard, loud cheering from the crowd

I have urges rising inside me, warrior's blood boiling, screaming me to join in the fight. However... I think I am going to look around or hear anyone talk about this... "Sexy Fred". I walk about in the arena, also looking for something to eat. I am not just being here to revel in the fight, I am also here to eat food and pick up on the lead on the guy as well.

There is alot of Butter stands like selling whole sticks of butter, in The Richard Butter Slam arena, As well as barrels of ale, Bread stands, A stand deep frying bread using ale, wierd stuff

Hm, I think I am in mood for some Buttered toast and a glass of ale.

Costs about 12 copper in total, most of the price coming from the butter, its not very expensive down here and thats probably because everyone is poor as fuck

Yeah the two fighters are distributing a whole wallop to each other, While the club wielder have the clear damage advantage the fist fighter is moving around to dammed fast,making it hard to land anything on him, sliding around each swing and bopping the club wielder's nose, after a couple good snoot boops Club user finally collapses onto the platform, an announcer shouting, "Ohhhh! and thats another win for Legs Leviticus, The Club Conroy is going to be mad about that when he wakes up"

"END HIM!" I shout from the chair, shaking my fist violently as I spew butter and bread from my seat.

Legs makes his way to the end of the platform looking down at Zealous "What is with this....Sassy lost child?"

"I AM ZEALOUS TERMINATOR!" I shouted from the distance.

"Well you aint gonna be shit after I'm done with you" Legs motions upward with his thumb as if to challenge Zealous, Club is being picked up and dragged away by staff

"THAT'S A CHALLENGE I SMELL. I SHALL TAKE YOUR CHALLENGE!" I shout and charged toward the clearing, entering the ring by doing some sort of acrobatics for a dramatic entry.

You look like your about to make a glorious  amazing and majestic flip entry, Right up untill you hit into the fish nets you've apparantly completly fogotten about, Legs seems concerned motioning to where Club is being carried out, theres apparantly a small flap where in fighters enter and leave the platform

I hurriedly remove myself from the net to face the Legs more properly. I also make mental note that there's a small flap in case I should inspect it. "Alright, just... give me a second here." I muttered quietly as I attempt to get myself upright.

Task is simple enough not to require a roll, since the net is fixed to the crates and the cieling, There is very little way to get tangled, inless you break it

Nah, no need to break it. Anyway! I get into the clearing and face the Legs more properly. I size him up from the ground, assuming he probably got a huge size advantage on me?

I could go on… but instead I shall actually talk about the fic with more words.

A challenge and often very intentional thing when writing is where to start the story. What is a good place to enter and start telling the stories of one’s characters that will draw readers in and ease them into the story. This fic opens with just the main character. She’s getting ready to return to work after her vacation. This is such a wonderful spot to start! It gives us space to learn about the main character a bit, her past, some tension, and some direction. It’s wonderful!

Through out this story, Day shows masterful skill of pacing and world building. Easing readers into different characters, showing us their dynamics (with and without the main character present), highlighting their personality, and really making them feel whole even though we only see them for one night. Our main character has this same treatment and we manage to see multiple facets of her personality! They had me laughing (mostly in my head because I am p sick rn but also out loud), cooing, and angry. So wonderful!

Now. World building. This fic is so masterfully crafted! Omg. All throughout the story, we get nuggets of the lore and the characters past sprinkled throughout. There is clearly so much care and thought that went into creating the lore and the story. Just about each interaction had space for there to be lore to be revealed and it was wonderful finding and learning more and more about it!

Lastly, I want to talk about the ending. Ending fics are hard. So hard. How much information should one give? How many more scenes should one add? Obviously, one doesn’t want it to drag on to the point that readers aren’t engaged, but one doesn’t want to end it too soon that it leaves readers unsatisfied. It is a careful balance. For me, this ending was such a perfect sweet spot! It left me giggling and excited. I am very satisfied with this ending! Intentions and wants were laid out throughout the story and with the ending I am left this idea of what will happen next. It allows my mind to stew and this fic to linger in my mind. I love it.

A/N: Got totally sidetracked. Originally began writing this for the “Vampires are always like, you know I could kill you, right?” post, but it got way bigger than intended. As per the norm.

This late at night, dull street lights and the low rumble of cars somewhere far away were your only companions as you hurried along the cracked sidewalk, your jean jacket pulled tightly around you. An outside observer might have thought your quick stride had something to do with fear – the time and the infamy of the neighborhood would have made that a decent guess – but in reality you were just late for work. Late and getting later.

At least if you sweated enough while practically sprinting by the looming, dark buildings, Namjoon might not be able to smell anything else. And he’d definitely know you’d tried hard to get to the bar quickly.

You glanced at your phone, cursed softly under your breath. Tried, and failed.

Some petty part of you wanted to claim that it was all Hyunwoo’s fault, but in reality, you could have hung up on him at any point in time during your hour-long argument. That didn’t change the fact that he was an asshole, but still, the furious thoughts marching through your head had little holes of guilt in them – guilt and self-loathing.

Why the hell did you keep accepting his calls, texting him back? You guys were finished, done, over, and yet some part of your brain seemed to have missed the memo. It was pitiful, and the only thing you could console yourself with was the fact that you’d steadfastly refused to meet with him no matter how often you’d agreed to talk over the phone.

It’d been three weeks since you’d learned he’d cheated on you, and it’d been three weeks since you’d seen him, too.

Michael Adamthwaite Gets Thoughtful About ‘War for the Planet of the Apes’ and 'Supernatural'

One of the new films that had a presence at Comic Con was "War for the Planet of the Apes," which opened two weeks ago and had a panel showing off the artistic and visual effects of the film. As a long time fan of the entire "Planet of the Apes" series of films (I even read the book by Pierre Boule and loved it), I was excited about the last in the sequel trilogy. The film focuses on Caesar and the war between his quest for revenge and his innate empathy, as well as on the actual fight between humans and apes. It also introduces the de-evolved young human girl Nova, a familiar name from the original series of films and the first group of sequels. The movie tackles deeper themes than might be expected, which makes it even more intriguing to me. So having an opportunity to chat with Michael Adamthwaite, who played Caesar’s lieutenant, Luca, was a real treat. [caption id="attachment_48557" align="aligncenter" width="450"] 20th Century Fox[/caption] Lynn: I was a huge fan as a kid of the original films and even read the book. Michael: Oh, so you’ve got a lot of the lore down, okay! Lynn: What I remember anyway, which makes this new film exciting to me. One of the things that has really evolved as the films have evolved over a long period of time is the portrayal of the apes. There’s just so much expression and emotion imbued in them now, which is amazing. Michael: Yeah, it is a huge thing to behold. The emotionality, the quality of that emotion comes directly from the performance. We’re just so grateful that we have such artistry and such technical wizardry. I can’t even call it anything other than that, to be able to put all this together to convey the raw natural emotion. And a lot of people have been asking me online hey, are we ever gonna see a cut of the movie where there’s no rendering, and it’s just you guys in suits? Some people have been calling for that, but I’m telling you, they’re going to see the same thing. The emotion comes through directly from Steve and Karin and Terry and myself, and it’s a huge privilege to watch it transform that way. Lynn: That’s so fascinating, and actually I do think that would be cool to see. I have no doubt that you’re right, but the whole process is just fascinating. Michael: Oh it’s next level every day. Lynn: So tell me about how you went about the process of really bringing Luca to life. [caption id="attachment_48558" align="aligncenter" width="696"] 20th Century Fox[/caption] Michael: Well, thankfully I have Terry Notary to rely on, probably the best motion choreographer working today. He’s got everything to be porud of. He’s created a tremendous world with characters that – for me, even in the last several years, working on Warcraft and BSG, creating these characters, they’ve come from a place that Terry just pulls out of the actors. You show up in a state and Terry takes you apart and puts you back together, and before you know it, there’s a beautiful sense of self. And you don’t think about anything, you drop in, and you’re not thinking, you’re present. And that’s the gift that animals have, they’re totally biology, so it’s next level for sure. Lynn: Were you also familiar with Planet of the Apes and had you seen any of the original or sequel films? Michael: I am a huge fan in all of its forms. I’m on the younger end of the spectrum, so some of the older properties haven’t been onscreen for a long time, but I really love the world created by this one question: what would it be like if it was a planet of the apes? That to me, it can beautifully be explored. So yes, I’m a huge fan. I was so excited just to get to audition let alone be considered for the role, let alone find myself playing Luca. So this is all a dream come true. Lynn: I think as a psychologist I’m sort of fascinated too by why we find this both fascinating and terrifying. Michael: So true. Lynn: There’s something in us as humans that always makes us question our place among the rest of the animals, and especially those that share like 99% of our DNA. There’s an ambivalence there that makes this extra interesting and maybe has that core of anxiety there to pull from too. Michael: I think that regardless of what species you are, you can achieve some kind of sentience and knowledge, some awareness outside of your biology, then you’re gonna question how long it’s gonna take for something to try to take you out. That’s nature/nurture, right? Lynn: Yeah. Michael: We survive, no matter the language, parents communicate to their children, we must survive. So yeah, it’s a pretty close to home idea for sure. Lynn: What makes this particular film special and appealing, because it seems to be pretty popular? Is it the fight scenes, the story, the way the apes are portrayed? What’s your take on that? Michael: My take is quite frankly that the power of story trumps any visual because we’ve seen films where the money has been tipped towards one area, like the visuals or the fight scenes or the explosions, and there’s no story! And it doesn’t work. Call them bombs or flops or whatever, but people don’t respond. But if you can take a couple of guys and a wonderful lady and put them in pajamas and get this kind of response, I think people should wake up and stop spending their money foolishly just on effects. We’ve seen so much, we’ve been completely desensitized by all the visual exposure, we don’t care anymore. Where’s my narrative? Who do I root for, who do I love, who do I hate? Give me story and give me performance, don’t just blow stuff up and tell me I’m supposed to give a crap! Lynn: Oh, I couldn’t agree more, it’s all about the story. That makes me want to see this movie like yesterday. There has to be something to anchor your emotions around. Michael: Life is often visual first, and if you can find yourself in an audience full of people and you can connect with what you see onscreen even for a moment, you have transcended, and it has transported you, and that is a gift. That’s what you pay your ticket price for. Otherwise, you feel empty afterwards because there was no connection. So you and me are on the same page. Lynn: Agreed. Do you have any behind the scenes anecdotes? I’ve read some things about the comedic aspects of Steve Zahn’s portrayal of “bad ape.” I don’t know what that means, but it sounds interesting… Michael (laughing): I have to say, there were times when Steve just naturally just dropped into his love of play and his love of theater and craft. He really is just someone who almost sometimes forgets where he is for a moment and just has fun, but man oh man, that scene in front of the fireplace, he was Marathon Zahn for sure. I think he got upwards of like 37 takes. Lynn: OMG! Michael: God bless him, he’d be like with legs throbbing, but saying I’m okay I’m okay, just this absolute tour de force of leg strength. He’s a very physical comedian and a talented actor; I love him. Lynn: That’s impressive.  What was your favorite scene to film? Michael: Oh that’s such a hard question to answer! Every scene has such a relevant contribution to the overall arc; it’s hard to pick out one moment. But as a performer I really looked for those times when the frame kinda gets a little blurry, and you sort of forget the world and who you are, what you are, where you are, and you’re just alive in a body in a moment and that moment for me was giving Nova the flower. My wife thankfully was present that day and was able to watch filming, and it was beautiful. At times, I was just a being on a mountain with a girl showing her compassion in what was a really difficult and dangerous and horrific reality. That was pretty big for me as an actor. Lynn: And again, that basic human emotion that comes through, those are the moments we all relate to, that are memorable. Michael: Yeah it definitely was for me. Lynn: Switching gears for a minute, I write a lot about the television show Supernatural, I’ve written five books about the show, so can I ask you a Supernatural question? Michael: Ohhhh you’re a super fan, right on! Lynn: Probably an understatement. Interestingly, you’ve been on the show, and Ty Olsson and Aleks Paunovic have also been on Supernatural and are in this film. Michael: Yeah, we’re fortunate local boys.  We know the rules; if you want to work, get on Supernatural! They are not messing around, and lucky us for having them. Lynn: So you had a scene with Jensen Ackles and with Felicia Day too. And apparently, it became a meme?? Michael: (laughing) It was a wonderful little scene, and of course the rule is there’s no such thing as small characters, only small actors, and this was at the time, it felt like a nice little role, but to see it blow up as a meme and to be part of all this, and asking Jensen Ackles a series of questions was really fun, and Felicia was really great.  I think at one point she was miffed that her video game wasn’t loading on her phone which was really sweet and we all laughed about that. Lynn: (laughing) Michael: She’s a true fan and just an absolute gamer goddess, so it was great to hang out with her, she’s such a huge part of fan culture. We’re just all geeks on the inside trying to have fun. Lynn: Absolutely. Somebody needs to send me that meme! Michael: I think it’s on my twitter, it’s just me and Jensen and Felicia and of course what’s added isn’t dialogue from the show by any means, it’s just this interesting three-way meme by implication. Lynn: I’m so gonna stalk your twitter! And I had no idea you were on another of my favorite shows too, Dirk Gently! Michael: I was very fortunate to be on Season 1 of Dirk Gently, playing a really fun character by the name of Zed, who of course they defended the machine, they sought the kitten, they created havoc, and that was the role. Lynn: I didn’t know who you were then, but that was so awesome! Michael: You have to be invisible for things to work, so I take pride in that. And stepping out with Apes right now, I couldn’t be prouder about that. Lynn: Last question, what was the most challenging part of filming this movie? I can imagine some of it was quite challenging. Michael: Well, of course, I have to acknowledge the logistics of filming and some of the conditions we were in – the snow, the sleet, the rain – all of that was incredibly difficult on the crew and cast. But that wasn’t the hardest part for me. For me it was just letting go and dropping down and doing away with everything that was afraid of things when they happened or commenting on things when they happened or thinking I didn’t want to be vulnerable at this moment, it was really just doing away with myself. Not me as a human but doing away with fear and cautiousness. You have to become an animal, and ape or alligator it doesn’t matter, there are certain behavioral patterns you have to work towards, so you have it give it everything you have.  Finding Luca was a big thing because, in a way, I found myself, and that was the biggest challenge. Lynn: There’s always that need to put your own identity aside to play another character, but is this sort of an extra layer of challenge, putting aside your humanity as well? Michael: Yeah, even devaluing labels and not getting my mind locked in by the titles and names of things and what we call things and how things get fed into a hierarchy, but instead how does this make me feel? Then feel it or trust it or defend it. Regardless of where the emotion goes, it all comes from the same place. There’s this center, your power cell we all operate from, and for me the challenge was doing away with everything that got in the way of that. Lynn: Is a take away message of the film that there are a lot of similarities between the humans and the apes and at the core more is the same than different? Michael: I think it’s a central theme but not the be all end all. The idea that we as conscious creatures, having a higher consciousness in a fictitious world, we definitely blend the line for sure and start to see both the similarities and the differences but really, if it was about any one dynamic, it’s about the self. There’s a very old saying, the lion who conquers a battlefield is not nearly so accomplished as the lion who conquers himself. It’s really about that war within Caesar, that war for humanity and for peace and that sense of mercy. It’s a very complex film; I’m really excited for you to see it. Lynn: Did Andy Serkis do a really kickass job portraying Caesar? Michael: Oh man, kickass is like the greatest understatement ever. If Andy doesn’t get an Oscar, there’s going to be a huge army of pissed off people, me included.
