——————————————
Hi there!
After another re-watch and the head to pay attention to the small details, perhaps I have reconstructed a possible
Timeline of Helluva Boss
It would be better to define them as hypotheses. First of all, here is an outline of the episodes and their release dates.

I also included the one whose title we know, just for the sake of general overview. The theory for the moment covers 2 seasons out of 4 announced.
Here the synthetic timeline. From the estimate version I have removed the year here, we'll get to the reason.

Here I also report some of my thoughts:

Already from the first episodes there's a strong focus on clocks and time, it is much more striking in Oops, where Asmodeus' clock marks the whole day.

I'm not sure about the year, but also from the analyzes carried out later, 2021 could be the year of the narrative arc that goes from Murder Family to Ozzie's for sure.
(*) The Verosika's tour t-shirt was official and linked to the episode, at the moment I'm undecided on its validity at the year level, althought the date could be very possible.

However, my research started with Seeing Stars because it's the first episode to feature an almost specific date: the 20th of a 30-day month.
In my opinion it could be April chronologically and it's agreed with the information in the subsequent episodes.
The only problem is that the full moon would't coincide with what was marked by Blitz.
Noteworthy:
Blitz's calendar suggests that the full moon in that month is the 14th.
Stolas wrote in the Western Energy chat that Blitz was supposed to come that evening and that therefore the full moon was the 20th.
We are certainly either in 2021 or beyond given Moxxie's coin in Seeing Stars.

From the chat we can understand that:
About a month passes between the trio Ozzie's - Queen Bee - The Circus (1 moon)
About 3 months pass between Seeing Stars and Western Energy (3 moons)
Western Energy is placed a week before Oops and among these there's Unhappy Campers
From Millie's flyer we know that her and Moxxie's mission ends on Friday July 17th. We know from Blitz that this lasted a week, so it started on Monday 13th July.
According to what Striker says to Crisom, Western Energy should be set around July 11th and Oops around July 18th.
We should be in 2022 though, but in that case July 17th was a Sunday.

In Mammon's magnificent concert Blitz says on the call with Ozzie that it's a weekend.
There are two options:
It could be set on the week parallel (July 21-22th or 28-29th) to the events of Western-Unhappy-Oops.
It could be set on the following month (August).
Here we come to the gap:
(*) The Mammon's official t-shirt is clearly linked to the episode, but the date (2023) and month (October) cause the information to conflict.
So, at this point we have this options:
The official t-shirts are tied exclusively to the release date of the episode.
They are official only at the date level.
They're official and we're actually 2 years removed from Murder Family.
I think it is more canonical to consider a connection with the month of July shown in the episode and maintain the hypothesis.
Seeing Stars -> April
Wester Energy to Oops -> July
Full Moon → September or October 29th

In Apology Tour we have confirmation from multiple characters (and from the visit to Earth) that it is October 31th.
From the argument between Blitz and Stolas, it seems that it was 1 or 2 days after Full Moon. This creates some contradictions with the canonical month of the previous episode.
There are three options:
Full Moon Calendar has an "error"
It's been longer than it seems
Earth and Hell don't have the same chronological flow
I don't know which option to prefer.
From Ghost fu**ers the only information obtained is at the beginning of the episode:
Millie claims to Loona at the beginning of the episode that Blitz's crisis has been going on for over a month.
The client says that her murder occurred the day before, a Wednesday. So the current date is a Thursday.
We should be in November, if we consider that before this episode the 3 Shorts are placed probably at the end of the month.
(link Viv post about the Shors click here)
I was hoping Mastermind would give us some more details, but it seems either we're happy with the episode or we find different lines. Incredible, an episode with so many media, chats, newspapers, live broadcasts, posts and articles and not even a shred of date. We only have the usual clock that marks everything between the afternoon and the evening.
We have to wait for Sinsmas (obviously set in December) and hope that something more will be mentioned.
So that's what we now:

——————————————
As for the analysis with the theories on the trailer shown to us at the LVL UP on April 29th, for now I'll leave the post as it is. I don't think it makes sense to correct the opinions (only Sinsmas is missing), at most I'll modify it in terms of the relationship between Blitz and Stolas.
You can read it here.
I will let you now if I change it.
——————————————
In the end, I deleted Sinstagram post analytics for two reasons:
They hadn't reached this point in the serie
The Spindlehorse she disconnected from those accounts, making everything "useless"
( @timkontheunsure thanks anyway for the suggestion)
——————————————
What a mess...
What do you think about it?
Have you noticed any other details that could clarify the mystery? Make me know it and let's solve the mystery together :}
From Nem is all,
Bye~

October 6, 2017:
(Tommy is shown running across a grocery store, holding a bag of candy)
Tommy: Coming through, b*****s!
Person: What is he doing?
Tommy: Now back to more of our brand new episode of The Machine Factory! Out of the way, slowpokes!
Security Guy: Sir, could you please stop running in the grocery store?
================================================
(hey guys, IRL Davis here)
(sorry for rushing this one, was busy yesterday)
(for October 2017, we brought back the Shocktober branding that had been previously used in 2003 and 2015)
(but this time, instead of the lineup being set up by an 11-year old novice who was still learning the ropes of how CN Shocktober worked, it was instead set up by a 13-year old loser who was trying too hard to be edgy)
(and due to me having a higher rank in Great 5 Productions than I did in 2015, no one was allowed to change it via my rules)
(and with me being the way I was back in late 2017, it's not surprising that the lineup ended up the way it did; this included...)
(the lineup having mostly Great 5 shows for the event (despite us having the rights to a big chunk of CN's library))
(airing overly-edgy shlock that I made myself (including that fan-made Blue's Clues episode that I talked about last year))
(airing South Park for Monday, October 23rd (which nearly got us into trouble with Viacom because I was too stuck up to consider that airing a show we didn't have the rights to was a horrible idea))
(airing one of those cheaply-animated Christian specials on Tuesday, October 10th, which I requested to be sped up at certain points, due to the special being too long for the half-hour time slot that I scheduled it for)
(in a similar vein to the last point, we aired the Foster's Home episode "Bloooo" on Tuesday, October 17th, but I didn't realize until the broadcast that the episode was a half hour long and not 11-minutes like I thought; so, I sped that up too)
(airing It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown on Thursday, October 26th (okay, that was actually pretty good))
(another thing that I'm not entirely proud of is that every Friday, we would present 3 new episodes of a lost Total Drama season, "Total Drama Monster Hunt", from 8pm to 9:30pm)
(it kinda felt like we were just running through the episodes too quickly)
(... sorry, where was I?)
(oh right, this week)
(for this Fridays show, Tommy and Tara went out to the grocery store to buy candy early, before it was sold out)
(as for "The Machine Factory", it was a short lived series that didn't have much of an impact, probably because it was yet another Great 5 production starring me, which some viewers were getting sick of by then)
(okay, I gotta get back to working now)

my own skam remake??
hey everyone, it’s your girl here, who still doesn’t know what she’s doing.
um
so
i may have messed around and ended up writing a season for my own skam remake?
now for some explanation:
basically, in the months of april/may (i literally cannot remember exactly when) i was like, “hey, i kind of want to write my own skam, taking elements i loved from the og and remakes and still doing my own kind of story."
so that’s what i ended up doing. i started with season 3 because that’s the storyline i connected to the most, just wanting to put my own spin on a story i hold really dearly to my heart. i finished my first draft of it in late june/july and i shared it with a friend of mine - who’s writing i absolutely adore - and she had overall really positive thoughts on it. something that really struck me was that she thought that “people should watch this over 13 reasons why.” now, i’m not here to talk about the often questionable-at-best portrayals of certain things in that show. but it made me think, “i have somewhat of a platform with tumblr, maybe this could help some people, or at the very least be some more content for them while they wait for whatever remake or show they want to see. why not post it?”
and now here we are. posting it.
soon.
the first clip of season 3 is set on october 17th of this year. what i’m planning to do is schedule all my posts to be released at the time the clips are set, that way it’s almost like the og show just . . . not a tv show.
i’ll also be posting this on ao3, and i’ll drop all the clips of an episode there when the last clip of the episode is released here. i know that the og skam used to have regular weekly episodes but mine are completely chaotic (what a surprise), so while a lot of them end on fridays or saturdays, there are a few that end midweek, so it’s kind of a mixed bag.
it is written in a script style format (a lot of fun to explore since i had never done it before) but as a disclaimer, i am nowhere near being a professional writer and i’ve just been doing this as a fun project. if you have some tips or advice on how to improve, i’d love to hear it, but i just want to make sure that it’s out there that this could probably be done 10x better by someone with script writing experience.
i have been writing my season 1 and 2, and i know generally what plot they’re going to follow, so the stuff mentioned in this season should carry over well. those are set in the fall of 2019 and the spring of 2020 respectively, which obviously have passed, but if this is remotely interesting and you all want to see more, i can absolutely post those when i’m done, they just won’t be exactly matching the days they’re happening. i also want to write a season 4 and 5 at least, and maybe more if they come to mind, but i don’t want to get too in over my head,
so, i guess i should give a little bit of explanation of what it’s about.
this season focuses on ila (yes wlw representation, we love to see it). this isn’t a carbon copy of the og version (this has 11 episodes, for starters) but i really wanted to keep a lot of things because i have such a big place in my heart for the og season 3. i think i’m going to keep it as vague as that, just because there is something to be said for how fun it is to go into something a little bit blindfolded and be surprised as you go.
i did a lot of research for this entire project, but i haven’t been through everything all of these characters have personally myself. if anyone reading notices anything that is inaccurate or a poor portrayal of a certain group/topic, please please let me know. i want to make this as authentic as i can and i’d much rather redo things that aren’t good representation than leave them be just for the sake of it.
i’ve scheduled another post for a week before the first clip that gives a rundown of all the characters and both their physical characteristics (what i imagine in my head) and their personalities, so hopefully that should give you all that are reading this and planning to read the show an idea.
if you made it through this, thank you so much for reading! i am tagging all of the skam remakes because i feel like this could appeal to anyone who watches any of the remakes.
so, yeah. that’s what i’ve been up to. let me know if you have any questions or thoughts or if you think this is overall an awful idea and i should burn this entire thing (why don’t i get more self-confidence)

falling for bill hader during your snl days would include...
look, it started as this simple little thing about you and bill meeting during his snl days, and then it turned into this and i just...uhm. yeah. it’s not simple and short anymore. enjoy! (and i feel like it goes without being said, but he’s not married in this.)
your lengthy relationship with bill would start somewhere on snl. you were originally an assistant for lorne, which translated to fielding calls for him and ironing out an insanely busy schedule that made you anxious just to look at. oh, and he put you in charge of getting everything set up for wednesday night snl table reads.
the table read, a very “casual” affair made up of comedians and writers in hoodies and jeans, was never meant to be a big hoopla. somehow, though, that’s what it always turned into. before you knew it, there were seventy-plus people packed into this small room on the 17th floor on 30 rock and crowding around a table as the sketch reading for the first episode of season 31 began. with lorne sat next to the week’s host (would you believe – steve carrell), the reading commenced.
you were too busy fretting over making sure everyone was seated and engaged that you missed bill’s introduction. it was a quick “meet our new features,” and a glance over to him and andy sandberg. by the time you glanced over to them? everyone had moved on and were on to the next bit of business; seth myers was halfway into the first page of one of the possible cold open sketches.
it’s after the table read that seth introduces you. he could see how busy you were with making sure lorne had everything running smoothly, but seth was a nice enough guy to know that your week would go smoother if you had a clue who these guys were. so, you shake hands with andy and bill and smile at them before you’re running to catch up with lorne – who’s already halfway down the hall with steve carrell.
over the following months, you would catch glimpses of bill at various rehearsals and table reads, but never really had the time to think about him for more than a fleeting moment. snl was only one of the many things you had to keep an eye on while working for lorne.
okay, it was a really important one to you, the one you kept an eye on the most, but it was just another knot in the rope you had to pull on a daily basis. lorne demands excellence. you knew that from the moment you got the job as his assistant. it was the reason you had applied; if you started as an assistant to lorne, maybe there was a way to get into the dream job of an snl writer someday? and maybe there wasn’t, but at least there seemed to be a shot. but that had been close to two years ago, and while lorne was a nice enough boss, he probably had no clue about your aspirations.
so the months passed in a steady flow.
sometime after midnight on a particularly heavy tuesday/wednesday writing night, you’re leaving lorne’s office when you decide to stop in and see how the writers are doing on the 17th floor.
the season finale was this week, and the pressure was on to find the perfect sketches. as you entered seth’s office, you found him with his back on the ground and his legs against the door, holding a pencil in his teeth. bill sat in what was normally’s seth’s chair and listened to his buddy rattle on about some “baby hitler” sketch they could do.
you hand off their usual coffee and sit down in the corner, providing the comfortable silence you were very much known for on set. bill’s starting to ramble about how the sketch won’t work, and seth’s just humming so bill knows someone is listening. hitting a wall never looked so depressing. but at least you could provide moral support, so you stick around while they work through the rest of the sketch.
and bill makes you laugh. seth does too, but something about bill’s own laugh never fails to send you into a bout of hysterics — especially when you’re exuasted.
it becomes a ritual for you to come in and stick around with them on those nights, and soon enough you were helping them with sketch ideas and jokes.
the first time bill laughs at one of your jokes, you have to fight a racing heart. it’s kind of impossible though, because he’s laughing so hard that he’s slapping his leg and you can’t help but join in — which only makes his worse.
the months pass.
before the end of the season, seth brings up the fact that one of the writers is leaving the show and a position is going to open up. he practically begs you to audition.
so, you do. and it’s a hot june day when you’re standing in front of lorne, more nervous than you’ve ever been. but the moment passes like a blur, and your friends like bill and seth are waiting for you afterwords with praises.
when you get the job as a writer a few days later, you can’t help yourself from crying. you manage to hold it in when lorne comes and tells you himself, but as soon as he leaves you to process the information -- your shaking hands are shooting a text to bill and telling him the good news (as though he didn’t already know from seth).
you two end up getting drinks, and he’s a little drunk as he tells you, “you know you deserve this so much. like you work your ass off.” and then his voice drops to a whisper and you barely hear him when he says “i know you don’t need me to tell you this, but i’m so proud of you, y/n.”
and your heart stops for just a second.
he gives you the goofiest, drunk smile before he turns back to the bartender and makes sure you get another special drink. you’re pretty sure you’re drunk off of something else.
over your first season, you find yourself starting out by writing one (maybe two) sketches a week. and it’s pretty easy to see what they have in common. although kristen is the first to point it out, she’s probably not the only one that knows.
when she poked the hornet’s nest over drinks a few weeks before chirstmas, you‘re quick to backtrack. “no, no.” you hiss at her. “it’s not like that. bill’s just really talented and he can play a lot of characters.” your heart is racing because what if she’s right? what if you do like him like that, and everyone knows now.
kristen rolled her eyes, and you never say anything else on the subject. it doesn’t stop you from writing more sketches and bill being cast as a lead. you get past christmas without any issue. hell, you even get through valentines day and st. patricks day without anymore issues. but then, the jokes start again.
it’s a few weeks away from the easter episode of your first season that you start to panic, because you’re pretty sure bill thinks something is up. so, you do the only rational thing you can — stop using him in sketches. cold turkey.
you’d actually managed to go a couple of weeks without using him in one of your sketches, which had increased to about two or three a week. you thought you were on a pretty good streak, but now easter had come around and seth thought it would be a good idea if the two of your wrote another vincent price holiday special.
when you bring the idea up to bill, he’s not quite sure if it would even work. “a easter special? you really think that could work?” he has that skeptical gleen in his eyes that was common when he pitched his own sketches, but you’d never seen it directed to one of yours. when you try and explain the absurdity of it, he’s still shooing it away. “i don’t know if you want to use me.”
“what are you talking about?” you asked, incrediously. “you’re our vincent price. you have to do it.”
bill hesitated for a second. “i thought you weren’t using me in sketches anymore.” and you swear that you hear a little bit of hurt in his voice, but fred armisen is calling your name before you have the chance to ask him about what he means.
you go on and help seth write the sketch that night, so it’s ready for the wednesday night table read. but bill doesn’t meet your eye when you and seth pitch it, but at least he goes with it and it gets a lot of laughs. lorne approves it and has his new assistant write it out on a note card to use for the lineup.
something’s not right. you can feel this horrid nagging in the pit of your stomach on thursday, which only gets worse when you send bill rewrites and he still won’t meet your eye. you try and talk to him for a few minutes, but he seems to cut off any conversation and you’re too tired of this to try anymore. so, you let him go and don’t know why you’re so close to crying when you shut yourself in to yours and seth’s office.
on friday, you’re starting to get worried.
it’s costume fittings for your sketches, which means you and seth are standing in front of bill in his vincent price costume while he avoids eye contact with you. you could do 24 hours, and even 48 hours without him talking to you. but this was getting to be too much to take, and you couldn’t keep pretending like everything was easy between you two.
when seth asks the costume designer about an addition for fred’s liberache, you pull bill to the side.
“what’s wrong?”
you have to ask. it’s not like you can just keep this charade going.
he tries to wave it away. “nothing. i’m fine.”
but then you’re fighting back because obviously it’s not, and you hate that he won’t talk to you. and he can see the pleading in your eyes. and he really hates himself because bill never wanted you to feel like this. and he just sighs. “it’s stupid.”
“what?”
“it’s really stupid.” he says, like it’s a warning. “i shouldn’t have said that thing about you wanting to use me. i just let my head get the idea that you didn’t like me anymore and didn’t want to put me in your sketches.”
and you’re kind of speechless for a second. you want to say a million different things to him; he looks like he wants to, too. you can only manage to get out, “bill, you know i adore you.”
and you don’t hear how his breath catches in his throat because (of course) seth is calling your name.
the rest of the day passes without another interaction with bill. you see him in the halls on a few occasions and he smiles brightly for you, but it’s not until the end of the night when you catch him waiting for you outside your office. you’d had to stick around and finish up some things with the other writers, so the fact bill waited around sent your heart racing.
leaning against your door, with his hands in his pockets, bill was like a beautiful and tired vision. “you want to go get some coffee downstairs?” he said.
you can’t tell him no.
so, ten minutes later he’s handing you your drink and trying to explain just how much he let his anxety overtake him. you knew it could get bad sometimes, but the thought had never crossed your mind as being the reason he wasn’t talking to you. you listened as he continued on about how much he likes your writing, and how he appreciated that you would keep putting him in your sketches (even though his anxiety wanted to keep him in the background). and “i know everyone jokes about you liking me, and that’s why you write sketches for me, but it wouldn’t matter even if that’s why you did. anyone should be happy to have one of your pieces.”
you feel like he wants to say something else, but he doesn’t. he just lets his words resonate for a second, and for you to smile back at him, before he’s launching into a story about seth and one of the other writers from earlier this week.
the sketches go off great on saturday, like bill was sure they would, and when you get home somewhere close to 3am after the show, there’s a text waiting for you from bill.
[ See you @ monday’s pitch. You’re going to have another great we eek.]
and he’s right. the last few weeks for the year go off without a hitch. well, without anymore hitches than your used to for snl. as the season closes and the host says goodnight, bill’s the first to give you a big hug while the band plays everyone out. in fact, with his 6’1 stature, he practically lifts you off the ground.
there are the fifteen afterparties and the twenty goodbyes, but you’re finally heading home as you hail a taxi.
“you don’t mind if i share that, do you?” a voice asks from behind. when you turn, bill’s got his hands in his pockets and it’s as though he’s expecting you to tell him no. but how the hell can you do that?
when you two give your addresses and settle in, there’s the obligoutory chat about how you’re going to spend your summers. he was thinking of going back to l.a. you weren’t sure yet — which both of you already knew. but up until this point, bill didn’t follow up with the question, “well — there’s a room open at the place i’m staying in l.a.?”
and that?? well, we’ll leave that for another time.

Scholars and Slackers
Author: kpopfanfictrash
Pairing: Namjoon / Reader
Word Count: 1,802
AU: Podcast
Dialogue Prompt: "I’ll be honest, I’m not fan of how tall he is. He could be like inch shorter, really. "
↳ part of my AU drabble game
“You know what’s the worst part about this podcast?”
Leaning into his microphone, Namjoon adjusts his headset.
“No,” you say, propping both feet on his desk. Namjoon glares because he hates when you do that, but you don’t put them down. As you both know, his bark is worse than his bite. “Tell me, RM. What is the worst part about having this podcast?”
“The money. You know what they say. Mo money, mo problems.”
“Oh, right.” Seriously, you nod. “Sponsors are killing themselves to be heard on our campus-only podcast. Which – by the way.” You pause. “Drink Red Bull. This message is brought to you by… Red Bull.”
Namjoon snorts. “Yeah, you’re right. The problem is definitely not the money. In case any of you needed reminding, we’re just two broke college kids like yourself. Donate today!”
“If you’re waiting for a noble argument, we have none,” you add. “Keep us fed – or more accurately, help us get drunk at Klein’s on Friday nights. That’s where your donations are going. To alcohol.”
“We’re college kids first, humans second.”
“Anyways.” Leaning back, you wriggle your toes on Namjoon’s desk. “If money isn’t the problem, what is?”
“It’s your fucking feet on my desk.” Namjoon groans, his expression souring. “I know this is a podcast, so our listeners can’t see what Viola is doing – but she’s currently seated at my beautiful, hand-crafted desk with her shoes on top of my carefully taken notes.”
Viola is your podcast name and RM is Namjoon’s.
Viola, after the Shakespearian character of said nomenclature, your favorite of all he has written. The moniker seemed appropriate when you two began this podcast, since you met while watching the campus production of Othello. (It was terrible. You gave it two out of five damned handkerchiefs. Namjoon gave it one.)
Unimpressed, you glance at his desk. “He’s lying,” you say. “My feet are currently on top of a crumpled bag of those gross flavored Lay’s and what seems to be a diary. Ooo!” you gasp. “Anyone wanna hear RM’s deepest thoughts?”
The question is rhetorical since you aren’t live, but Namjoon snatches his notebook away like you are.
“No,” he huffs, rolling his eyes. “My deepest thoughts aren’t that exciting. Not that deep, either. One time I thought about the Mariana trench. That was pretty deep.”
“Friday, October 17th.” You mock-read aloud, in a dramatic tone. “Today I realized we’re all just wisps of time in the universe. All who came before us, all who come after and all who fail to leave their mark upon society – what was the point? Are those who altered history any happier in the beyond?”
“I’ll have you know,” Namjoon interrupts. “I’m currently seated on my bed holding my journal. Viola is reading from nothing.”
“Okay, true enough,” you say with a laugh. “That’s not what RM’s journal says. What it actually says is Monday morning, 7:00 AM. Jacked off in the shower. Monday afternoon, 4:17 PM. Jacked off in my bed. Monday night, 11:49 PM –”
With a loud thwacking sound, Namjoon hits you with his journal.
“They get the point, Viola!” he says, making you snort with laughter.
The sight of his eyes crinkled, face squished makes your heart do a backflip. Fuck, are you in love with him. You have been ever since the week of your first, official podcast.
It’s difficult to pinpoint the exact moment. Maybe the first time Namjoon ignored your rambling bullshit and pointed out exactly what you were thinking. Maybe when you ended the podcast and realized you’d talked for over an hour about nothing. Or maybe later than that, with your feet propped on his desk and his smile giving you heartburn.
Whatever the moment was, the result is a giant crush on your best friend. One you can do nothing about, since your podcast (Scholars and Slackers – two guesses as to which one you are) is a massive success on your campus. You didn’t expect it to be. What began as a mostly reviews hour – campus productions, local restaurants and the like – soon developed into something you never imagined. Namely, your friendship.
Viola and RM are known on campus, even if Y/N and Namjoon are not. Their friend chemistry is infamous and the spine of the podcast. It’d be suicidal to risk a relationship because, while Namjoon is correct and neither one of you is rolling in cash, the podcast does generate a substantial amount of income towards student loans. Things would be hard if the podcast suddenly came to an end.
Shifting forward, you crack open your laptop. “Let’s see,” you say, scrolling through last week’s comments. “I’m reading the comments from last episode and damn, some of y’all are thirsty.”
Namjoon chuckles. “Are they asking you to take your top off again?”
“No, but again.” You blink, shaking your head. “I don’t understand. You can’t even see me!” you say, as Namjoon starts to crack up. “Do you really want to subject RM to torture that badly?”
Abruptly, Namjoon’s laughter stops.
“Whoa, whoa, whoa,” he says into the mic. “I think we should ask RM what he thinks before dismissing the topic so quickly.”
“Pass,” you say, waving his suggestion aside. “Anyways, here’s a comment asking how tall RM is.” Pausing, you frame Namjoon with your hands. “I mean, he’s tall. I couldn’t fit him in a bread box, if that’s what you’re asking. I’ll be honest, though, I’m not a fan of how tall he is.”
Namjoon sits up straighter. “No?”
“Nah. He could be like, an inch shorter, really.”
“And why is that?”
“The nook.”
“I’m sorry, the what?”
“You know.” You wave a hand. “The nook! The spot beneath a person’s arm where the other person fits. It’d be ideal if you were just a little shorter, RM, since right now your nook is just too tall. It’s hard to snuggle.”
Namjoon stares at you, mouth agape. “I – what? When have we snuggled?”
“We haven’t. I’m just guessing based off height ratios.”
“I...” Namjoon makes a strange, choked sound. “This is ridiculous. Come here. I’m going to disprove your dumb nook theory.”
“Come there?”
“Yes.”
“Why?
“I’m going to snuggle you, you ass.”
“RM. You are not snuggling me during our very serious podcast, just to prove a point.”
“Why not?”
“Because!”
“Viola, shut up and let me put you under my arm!”
“You sound like you’re going to give me a noogie,” you yelp, frantically moving away. “Hard pass.”
Rolling his eyes, Namjoon flops back on the bed.
“Fine,” he grumbles, scrolling through some more comments. “Hey, look. I found another request for your top to be removed!”
“RM. That one is from your username.”
“It is not!”
The rest of the hour passes this way. You manage to get to the point eventually, reviewing a new café off campus which you felt had great atmosphere, adequate coffee. Namjoon refuted that atmosphere shouldn’t even be a requisite in food ranking and you spiraled from there.
Once finished, you remove your headset and sigh. “Another excellent podcast,” you say, sticking your hand out in his direction.
Namjoon stares at the extended appendage. “Are we concluding a business interview?”
“No, silly. I don’t want you to shake my hand, I want you to kiss it.”
Namjoon snorts, batting your arm away. As he stands and yawns, he stretches both arms overhead. The motion exposes a tanned strip of skin and, cheeks heating, you quickly look away. Rather than stare at your gigantic crush/best friend, you scroll through more comments. The oddest pattern has emerged as of late, even though you and Namjoon have yet to discuss it.
Most of the comments are related to content. People point out things they found funny, relatable or disagree with. Occasionally, people troll for someone to remove their shirt or do push-ups on air. Then, there’s the recent wave which seem to be multiplying by the week.
Jenny918: When will Viola and RM just kiss already??
hOOKEDonPhoenix: y’all if they aren’t dating within the year, I’ll eat my own hand
irredeemableDreamer: the tension is so thick in that room u need a HACKSAW to get through it
Jaw clenched, you read them all.
You can only assume Namjoon’s seen them, but he’s never mentioned their presence. He’s never said anything about them at all and so, neither have you. It does make you wonder though, if your listeners are able to hear something you don’t. They all seem to theorize a tension which doesn’t exist.
Standing up from your chair, you push this from mind. Perhaps they just don’t have opposite sex friends of their own.
Slinging your bag over one shoulder, you shut your laptop and slip this inside. “Alright,” you say, glancing at Namjoon. “I have to go finish an essay. Lemme know if you need help editing.”
He nods, one arm behind his head. Namjoon’s glasses are on, squinting at the bright computer screen.
“Sounds good.”
You wave, halfway into the hall when he speaks up behind you.
“Y/N?”
Paused on the threshold, you turn back. “Yeah?”
Namjoon’s expression is uncertain. Unusual, for him. Typically, you’re the mess and he’s the pulled-together one. Right now though, Namjoon seems to be dissecting a complicated math problem in his head.
“Would you want to…” Trailing off, he hesitates.
Although you wait for his sentence to finish, Namjoon seems to check himself. He bites down on his cheek, stifling the words.
After another long moment, you arch a brow. “Would I want to what?”
He inhales and glances away. “Uh, would you want to listen to the podcast before I post?”
Oddly disappointed by this, you nod. “Yeah, that’s fine. Just email me when you’re done.”
Offering a half-hearted wave, you leave. It could be your imagination but as the door shuts behind you, you swear that you hear Namjoon groan. The sound echoes in your mind down the hall, since you feel exactly the same.
The only difference is he’s groaning because he needs to edit an hour-long podcast and you’re groaning because you need to get your feelings for your best friend under control. If random listeners can hear the obviousness of your crush, you’re more transparent than you thought. It’s only a matter of time before Namjoon confronts you and when he does, you don’t know what you’ll say.
Thinking this, your lip quirks. Pulling your phone from your pocket, you log in with a URL Namjoon knows nothing about.
QueenMab01: RM, take your shirt off!!!!
Grinning widely, you return your phone to your pocket.

Everything I’m Going to Watch In May: AKA Time To Put On A New Shirt
Here we are again. Hope everyone is well. Are we making good food choices? Washing our clothes? Staying active? Watching our quick bites? Lol I’m jk, you don’t need to be doing any of that. All you have to do is get through each day, in whatever way you see fit. Perhaps for you this includes binge-watching television. If so, welcome, you are among friends.
Even though it may appear to you all that I am perfect, I sadly must admit I am not. Two shows that I missed telling you about and have been hyped up to me:
Unorthodox (Netflix) - An ultra-Orthodox Jewish woman runs away from her arranged marriage, complications arise. Only four episodes! My mom is really pushing this one hard.
Normal People (Hulu) - Based on the Sally Rooney books that I guess I didn’t read. Secret romance! Only 30 minute eps! Don’t watch it with your mom!
Also PSA HBO MAX is launching this month! Here’s the run down:
- It’s all Warner Brothers properties (HBO, TBS, TNT, Cartoon Network, WB produced CW shows, etc)
-Lord of the Rings, Friends, original content, etc
-If you already have HBO Now, you will be migrated over.
- No, this is not necessary, but yes, it is happening.
Now here are some premieres:
Friday, May 1st
Hollywood (Netflix)
Ryan Murphy’s first miniseries for Netflix after his bajillion dollar deal with them about...you guessed it...the Golden Age of Hollywood. Yes this feels like a classic Ryan Murphy Trap, but who amongst us isn’t desperate for a distraction. What happens to be diverting for me personally is Darren Criss in that trim little vest. We are all just trying to cope.

Into the Night (Netflix)
What if THE SUN started killing people?!? A timely reminder that it could always be worse: you could have to fly ceaselessly into the night on an airplane to escape a Death Sun. The Belgians made it so its only 6 episodes!
Friday, May 8th
Dead to Me Season 2 (Netflix)
A lot of people recommended this to me, did I watch it? No. But I trust them enough to pass that recommendation along. The circle of life.
Tuesday, May 12th
Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt: Kimmy Vs The Reverend (Netflix)
Bringing back Kimmy Schmidt for an ~*~*~ interactive ~*~*~ special ala Black Mirror: Bandersnatch. If you interacted with that show then you will know it was totally fine! But it did take up a nice solid block of time! Also you can choose to make out with Daniel Radcliffe in this one soooo (still, just trying to cope).
Friday, May 15th
The Great (Hulu)
Another show in the ‘quirky history’ trend, this time starring Elle Fanning as baby Catherine the Great (before she was Great). A satirical period piece with vague girl power themes? That sounds like maybe I’m making fun of it, but seriously sign me up. This is genuinely all things I want.
White Lines (Netflix)
The new show from the Money Heist creator, except instead of robbing a bank we are doing my other favorite activity: solving a cold case murder! If it even has half the flash (the victim is a DJ) and twists and turns of Money Heist (there is a group of likely suspects) it will still be time well spent.
Sunday, May 17th

Snowpiercer (9pm on TNT)
Y’all, I truly never thought we’d see the day. To say the Snowpiercer TV series (based on the Bong Joon-ho movie) has been ‘embattled’ is the understatement of the frozen television landscape. This show was announced five years ago, has had two different showrunners, a total pilot redo, and was supposed to be on TNT, then TBS, now TNT again. No idea if this will be good, or even anything at all, but it’s become such an object of curiosity how could you not want to take a peek. Also it’s already been picked up for a season 2! Absolutely wild. Thrilled to be on the journey.
Wednesday, May 27th- HBO Max Day!
Along with that library of WB content, HBO has some original series dropping today that I will now briefly preview for you:
Craftopia - Pre-teen crafting competition.
Legendary - The voguing competition that began the great Jameela Jamil Battle of Twitter.
Looney Tunes - Self explanatory!
Love Life- A rom com anthology from Paul Feig. Spend a season watching Anna Kendrick search for love- or don’t! Whatever you’re into.
The Not Too Late Show With Elmo - Elmo hosts a talk show!
I will say this for HBO Max: their offerings are clear and concise.
Friday, May 29th

Space Force (Netflix)
Remember like two years ago when it was announced we would have a Space Force? Well this Greg Daniel’s workplace comedy series (wonder if he’s any good at those) starring Steve Carrell will commemorate those simpler times.

Central Park (Apple +)
An animated musical comedy from the makers of Bob’s Burgers about the battle for the soul of Central Park. Looks fun, zany, etc. Boy, I would really like to go to a park...
Okay out of an energy now. Feel free to tell me what I missed and if it’s something turns out to be good I’ll humble myself with a correction next month (pending continuation of civilization). Now get out of here, scram, back to the couch with ya.
(JK love you)

It’s been exactly one month (and a day) since Kirby Morrow has unfortunately passed away - I still don’t know the reason for it, so if someone knows and could tell me, that’d be nice. 🙂
I was watching Ninja Warrior Germany on a Friday evening when I got this Youtube notification of TannerFishies that immediately told me his newest video wouldn’t be about something nice or cool, I knew it. (...) 🖤🤍
On November 17th after midnight, I finished the first ten episodes of season 12 on DVD and it was all nice and cool and fun and I enjoyed it as always. 💙 It was perhaps the third or fourth time I watched Prime Empire. 🎮👾 I think I watched it in German, so I didn’t hear Kirby Morrow voicing Cole but even if I did, I would’ve enjoyed it very much because I loved Kirby Morrow voicing Cole. 🥰 At this time, I didn’t think of the sad news we would all get just two days later.
It definitely was a surprise for all of us and I was shocked, I just couldn’t believe it. It just couldn’t be real, it seemed so unreal like a bad dream you just wanna wake up from. 😳🙀
After hearing those news, I kinda felt like “avoiding” Ninjago like “taking a small break” from it because everything would just make me even more sad than I already was. 😔
I didn’t cry - so far I still haven’t but I am still surprised, shocked and sad this is real and not a bad dream - but when I took a very long minute to realize and somehow process it all, I got very sad and really felt like crying. 💘💔😥
Since then, I haven’t watched any Ninjago videos or read any Ninjago one shots and fanfics on AO3 and FanFiction.Net like I usually would do.
But I realized that in the end, you can’t “avoid” it or “take a break” from it forever, now can you? I love Ninjago and being a fan too much to do that. ❣️
After some time, I pulled myself together to watch season 13 again since I wanted to do that anyway after I finished my DVD. 🖤 The third time felt the same as the first and second time; it was hilarious, surprising, shocking, heartfelt and fun as before. 😻🥰🤩💓💗💖 Fortunately, I didn’t think of the fact that Kirby Morrow is gone and will no longer voice Cole, maybe because I watched MoM in German as well and I had so much fun. Thinking about it, would’ve just make watching it so much more sadder and I didn’t want that or feel sad while watching it and maybe even cry though I wouldn’t have minded that. I was kinda hoping I’d cry at some point, especially at the end, tbh, because I love the ending of Master of the Mountain but I didn’t. 🙈
I’m still kinda “avoiding” and “taking a small break” from Ninjago but I’m trying to stop which probably won’t be easy because I love being in this fandom and everything too much. ❤️
There have been many reasons and times when I wanted to come online again and post something but since it’s been more than a month since Kirby Morrow died, I finally decided to write this and come online again.
I know, this post is a mess kinda, I tried to let my thoughts run free and to sort them out at the same time, but I just wanted to tell you that.
I don’t know if I should make another, separate post about how I find out about Kirby Morrow’s passing, how it made me feel and how I’ve been feeling and doing since then? Maybe I will do. 🤷🏻♀️
It’s after one AM here and I feel like I’m going to get a migraine very soon, so I probably go to sleep now.

VRAINS WEEKS “LINK-14″ - Daily Prompts 2019
Hello again Minna-saaaaaaan!
How are yooou? Did you miss me? Did you miss the 2 weeks we were talking about Vrains and Vrains only? Yes I missed them, too. =D So I sat down and started thinking about the prompts for these year’s Vrains Weeks. But first a little information! As some of you remember I asked for another name for the Vrains Weeks because...”Vrains Weeks” sounds too normal and kinda boring even if any of you understand what they are. (I had a minute I wanted to call them Double Week but that was even worse.) So I asked around if you guys have an idea how to call them and actually... One person had the perfect idea! So first let me introduce to you the new name of the Vrains Weeks:
Link-14 (Weeks)
And I think it fits. 2 Weeks have 14 days and everyone in the Vrains fandom knows what you mean when you say “Link-”. My special thanks for this name go to @mythicalartisttm Thank you so so much, my brain never ever would have thought this way!
Thank you! Danke! ありがとう!
Before we start with the newest Vrains Prompts for 2019 let’s take a look at the rules again (So noone can say they didn’t read or find them!)
NO Bashing of ANY content! That means no BASHING or INSULTING over any Headcanons, Theories, Shippings, Works and and and.
NO NSFW. Sexual and / or Gore content or similar for some people in a fandom are exciting ofc but since I can’t control the age of this blog’s followers I have to keep this free for minors. Also I hope this will keep triggers away from some followers.
NO Copying, Stealing or Reposting of other people’s work! Not even with credits! This is unfair and really NOT a way to show YOUR content. Also you hurt the real artist with this and we don’t want and don’t need this. YouTube Videos musiclinks or similar for special topics for a day are excluded as long as credits such as the directlink are included. (Please contact me if someone reposted your art over the #vrainsweek or #VRLINK14 tag)
Don’t forget! If you break one of those rules you will be banned from VRAINS WEEKS! Also I want to inform you that every content is allowed as long as it doesn’t break the rules. Drawings, Cosplay, Theories, AUs, everything aslong as it fits with the topic!
About the tag you have to use to find your work you can use 2 tags now:
You can still stick with the #vrainsweek from last year or use #VRLINK14
I will look at both of them to check your guys’ works. Just don’t forget to tag! Ok, here we go! Ready for the 2019 prompts?
Monday (15th July 2019)
“Favorite Headcanon” To start the Link-14 weeks let’s begin with something easy. Show me your most favorite Headcanon you had so far after 2 years of Vrains. Draw something, describe it, whatever you like! It doesn’t matter if this headcanon is old or brand new just show us you always wanted to show all of us!
Tuesday (16th July 2019)
“Androids” Wouldn’t it be great if we see the Other Ignis as Andoids as well? Or even Yusaku and the others? I wonder how they survive in the real world? Do they eat like normal humans? Will they ever feel tired? How would the Ignis look like? Aaaah so many questions~
Wednesday (17th July 2019)
“Happy Hot Dog Day!” Of course the newest LINK-14 Week again is the same date as the National Hot Dog Day as well! And again you can do whatever you like aslong as it includes a Hot Dog (I am sorry if it sounds a bit NSFW But I DON’T MEAN IT THAT WAY ///)
Thursday (18th July 2019)
“Babies”
Last year we had a prompt which I wanted you to put our favorite characters into adults. This time let’s go back in time and show them as little kids and babies.
I think Vrains has too less of some past shots from when our favorites where small and cute, let’s change that!
Friday (19th July 2019)
“Memories”
Thinking of the past can be beautiful but also pretty cruel. We all know that everyone of us thinks of the past knowing that it made us what we are today. So do Yusaku and the others. They think of the past and appreciate every memory they have no matter if they are hurt- or beautiful.
Saturday (20th July 2019)
“Gaming Champs”
Ok ok so... I played some League of Legends a while ago and suddenly I thought: “How would Yusaku look like as a LoL champ?” I went too far and even thought about his skills but hey! Wouldn’t that be a great prompt as well? If you guys are actually gaming something why don’t you put Yusaku or Ryoken or whoever you like into a game? No matter if it’s an MMO or something like Super Mario or Sims 4 or whatever you like. Maybe...I will design Yusaku as a LoL champ as well *laughs*
Sunday (21st July 2019)
“Vacations” We all are soo thirsty for a beach episode but it looks like we never get it...sadly ... *cries* BUT That’s why the LINK-14 Week is here for so let’s get the boys and girls into some sweet vacations! They really REALLY need a break! It doesn’t have to be the sea, send them wherever you want them to be. Another place, another country, wherever you like!
Monday (22nd July 2019)
“What if?” What if Ryoken / Revolver never was able to save the children from the Lost incident?
Tuesday (23rd July 2019)
“Share some music”
Music is my way to happiness I always say. What are the songs you relate the most to when you think of Vrains? It can be anything, songs to some AUs or to a special character or shipping or a scene you liked the most.
You can share Spotify playlists or YouTube Links or just the title and singers of the songs (Please don’t upload music files).
If you want you can use this prompt as well to show some relating from Vrains characters to music (For example Hanois as a band)
Wednesday (24th July 2019)
“Me when I watch VRAINS”
I am curious and maybe this prompt is a bit stupid but Vrains and the LINK-14 week only works with the people who actually watch Vrains. And I want to give you a “stage” cause you matter a lot! What do you look like when you watch VRAINS? (Describe it or draw it or even take a photo of it haha)
Thursday (25th July 2019)
“VRAINS goes Hollywood” So I have two tasks and whatever you like more is what you gonna do: Drawers: Redraw a movie cover / movie poster from whatever movie with Vrains characters. Writers: Take a scene of a movie you love and rewrite that scene with Vrains characters. Those movies can be anything (Disney, Marvel, Ghibli or other Animes, Romance movies or Hunger Games stuff) as long as they still fit with the LINK-14 Rules.
Friday (26th July 2019)
“VRAINS Manga”
I don’t know how long we will wait till we finally get a VRAINS Manga But we all have a lot of imaginations of how it will be. So share!
Saturday (27th July 2019)
“Happy Birthday!”
Imagine it’s Yusaku’s birthday. No other comments needed just be creative ;D
Sunday (28th July 2019)
“???” This day will be a surprise. Just wait till 28th July to see what’s up.
AND ALWAYS REMEMBER!! DON’T FORGET TO TAG YOUR POSTS WITH #vrainsweek or #VRLINK14!!!!!!
See ya in July Minna-san!!
Choco
Note: I got the render pic of Yusaku for the header from here: LINK ME

Ramadan Diary
Ramadan is a month of fasting, prayer, and self-reflection for the world’s two billion Muslims. The observance of Ramadan is one of the five pillars of Islam, a central tenet of the faith. The holy month itself commemorates the start of the recitation of the Qur’an to Mohammad, culminating in Laylat al-Qadr, the Night of Destiny, which celebrates the very first revelation.
The date for Ramadan varies from year to year, as the Islamic calendar is based on the movements of the moon, not the sun. This year, it began on the night of Sunday, May 5th, when the religious authorities glimpsed the thin crescent of a new moon.
I decided, after some encouragement from my students, to fast for all of Ramadan as a kind of personal challenge. This is a diary of my progress.
Monday, 6th May
Today was long, and hungry. I didn’t eat a morsel, nor drink a drop, all the livelong day. It wasn’t easy. I thought about food quite a lot. Bron, my roommate, is also fasting so we can do iftar together. An app tells me that the evening call to prayer, called maghrib, is at 19.27, but it began a small bit later — an agonizing two minutes — at about 19.29. Maryam, my other roommate, and raised Muslim, told me we have to wait until the prayer is finished, bless the food bismillah, and then eat. I broke the fast with some water and some dates, as is the custom, then devoured a chicken curry.
Tuesday, 7th May
Small bit easier today. Didn’t think of food so often. I was noticeably more tired though. I slept for an hour when I came home. Some strange reactions from some of the teachers to my fasting, but a lot of encouragement from fellow-fasters. Advice from other fasters includes waking at 3 or 4 AM for suhur, the pre-dawn meal, and easing into the iftar in the evenings with soup and salad. I decided against suhur, for reasons of laziness, so my fast is actually more extreme, having one meal, as opposed to two meals, per day. Broke the fast with some dates, a lot more water, and the last part of my chicken curry.
Wednesday, 8th May
Getting into the swing of things now, the hunger isn’t so obvious throughout the day, but much less energy. I’m in a very good mood, though. I’ve decided to make a fattoush salad, with the help of my Syrian friend Majd, who’s Christian and thinks I’m crazy for fasting. He also helped make lentil soup, another staple dish, with Bron, my roommate. So, this was a proper iftar: dates, soup, salad, and bread.
Thursday, 9th
Talked with the Biology teacher, who’s also fasting. He tells me that people ought to re-orient their mind towards other people during Ramadan, and that it’s not about feasting once the sun goes down. Look out, not in, essentially. More advice received: do not eat an even number of dates. Mohammad used to eat three. Broke the fast with (three) dates, and water. I made my own fattoush, which worked out very well. We also had leftover soup from yesterday, and I bought chicken tawouq, which I ate with bread.
Friday, 10th May
Today is International Day at school. The worst event for people fasting. There was food from every country on the planet. I had to borrow a tupperware container to bring the food home. Worse, today is Friday. The weekend is here. I have to go on a trip to Batroun for a bachelorette party with my friends leaving Beirut at about 5pm. Drink will certainly be taken. I can’t avoid it. Anyway, I’m not doing the fast for religious reasons, so once the sun goes down, I can eat, drink, and be merry. The hangover will be tough without a lot of water to compensate, though. We arrived in Batroun at 19:30 so I hopped out of the van, chugged some water, had a few dates, then started into the champagne. I managed to squeeze in a chicken burger in between the drinks.
Saturday, 11th May
The hangover wasn’t so bad, actually. In spite of this, I broke the fast for the first time — to drink a small bottle of water. As sins go, not so heinous. I was just so thirsty day after the night before. Religiously, you can break the fast if you’re pregnant, or menstruating, or sick. Maybe a hangover is a type of sickness? Anyway, spent the day on the beach, mostly under cover, and rested. Broke the fast back in Beirut with dates, some tuna fish, and pasta.
Sunday, 12th May
Apparently there’s an exemption on fasting if you’re traveling. I could’ve done with this on the road to Batroun! It also excuses my breach the day of my return to Beirut, I reckon. Broke the fast with dates, water, tawouq, bread, and pasta.
Monday, 13th May
People are always giving you advice when they hear that you’re fasting. Some of it contradictory. Bron was told not to drink so much water before eating at iftar. We decided to try it. Broke the fast with dates, no water, and chicken curry. Then copious amounts of water after. No obvious difference.
Tuesday, 14th May
Bron makes a strong point. Those who alter their body clocks by sleeping during the day and eating all night are cheating in a way. They’re just moving their day around, and sleeping through the hunger. It’s not a proper fast if you can’t feel the hunger. Broke the fast with chicken curry, round two, and lots of water.
Wednesday, 15th May
I feel hungrier today, not sure why. More advice with recommendations for iftar. The mindfulness coach thinks I ought to break the fast with some warm water, not cold, perhaps herbal tea, as this prepares the stomach better for eating, to be followed by three dates. He’s also of the opinion that people should be humble during Ramadan, no talking about their fast, no feasts at iftar, certainly no Instagram pictures. Broke the fast with a chicken burger from Smoked Bun, post-dates. Ridiculously nice.
Thursday, 16th May
I have a day off school today, for the funeral of Patriarch Sfeir, a Lebanese Maronite Cardinal. It was more difficult being home, actually. At work, even though I’m much more active and using more energy, at least I’m kept busy. Today, I caught myself watching cooking videos on YouTube. Broke the fast with (three) dates, and beef fajitas, but made with Lebanese bread.
Friday, 17th May
Broke the fast with a gorgeous mujaddara, a spicy mix of lentils, rice, and onions, made by a chef friend of Bron’s. Eaten with some of his delicious homemade bread, and some 961 Red Ale. Today is my good friend Enzo’s last night in Lebanon so drink will have to be taken again. What choice do I have?
Saturday, 18th May
Asma, Maryam’s friend from the UK whose working with a medical NGO in the Beqaa Valley, came for iftar. She’s a practising Muslim, so we had to lend her a Qur’an and find the Qibla, the direction of prayer. It was nice to get some more insight into the traditions. Apparently we can eat as soon as the call to prayer begins. We ate three dates, some ripe peach, and drank water, followed by mint tea. Dinner included pasta, fattoush, and more mujaddara. We also had ayran, a traditional kind of sour yoghurt drink. After dinner, we drank some Turkish coffee, then some Indian desi chai, made with ginger and milk. Finally, we had some traditional sweets, heloweyat. A proper iftar!
Sunday, 19th May
No hunger pangs at all today. I think my body has fully acclimatised to fasting. A small group of us went to see some childrens’ theatre in Tripoli, directed by a friend of ours and starring some kids from a Syrian refugee camp. It was really entertaining. The boys put on a production about a couple of swindlers selling dodgy seeds. The girls had a modern take on Cinderella. I could understand most of it, so I’m happy. We rushed back to Beirut for iftar. I decided to order a Ramadan Combo from Malik al-Tawouq: lentil soup, salad, and chicken tawouq platter, and a date cookie called ma’moul. Plus, a Miranda tamarind soft drink. The guy who delivered it was fasting and so forgot to take any money! We also ate some traditional Ramadan cheese sweets, heloweyat al-jibn, made with clotted cream called ashta, which we bought in Tripoli. They were spectacular. There’s a beautiful full moon tonight, which means: we’re half way through Ramadan! Ramadan Kareem!
Monday, 20th May
I genuinely don’t feel hungry during the day any more. Intellectually, I know I need to eat, but there are no hunger pangs. It’s not an obvious hunger. My sense of smell is more active, that’s about it. I decided to make chicken biryani today, which worked out really well. No big communal iftar today, as the final episode of Game of Thrones is available. Some things are more important.
Tuesday, 21st May
Bron invited two work friends over, a Syrian Muslim and a Jordanian Christian, and we also invited Dennis from downstairs. Bron made another batch of lentil soup, which was nicer even than the last one. She made fattoush as well. I contributed the remaining biryani. We had a huge variety of ice-creams with cones for dessert.
Wednesday, 22nd May
I didn’t eat so much today. I think my stomach is getting smaller. Broke the fast with three dates, some of the leftover lentil soup, a Mexican bean and tuna fish mix, and some fried haloumi. Fried haloumi is my new favourite food. Also, had a little pot of yoghurt.
Thursday, 23rd May
The routine now is to break the fast with three dates, and follow this with warm tea, usually mint tea. This really helps the transition to eating. Today, I had a big plate of pasta, some fried haloumi, and a yoghurt.
Friday, 24th May
It’s 38° today. It’s so hot that the cold tap runs warm. It’s at times like these that you appreciate the true value of something as simple as a glass of water. Tonight we’re hosting iftar on our balcony. Maryam made a Palestinian vegetarian maqluba, meaning upside-down, which is made with layers of fried vegetables, potatoes, and rice, which is then flipped before serving, and topped with fried cashew nuts. It was delicious. I made fattoush for seven people, complete with fried pita bread, and it was my best one yet. I was relieved, as I was serving Arabic food to Arabs. My friend Shadi brought his fiancé all the way from Damascus. We eventually made our way to Mezyan in Hamra, where I was rewarded with a free drink for boldly asking for one. It’s Ramadan, after all, the season of good will.
Saturday, 25th May
Myself and my house mates, Maryam and Bron, went to the Beqaa Valley to meet with Asma, who had invited us to iftar with her boss, Doctor Fares, and his extended family. It was such an amazing evening. Typically Syrian. First, we sat around half-talking, half-watching Arab dramas, like Al-Hayba and Khamsa Wa Nos, while the family cooked. People were coming and going all the time. We then went for a short walk with the good doctor’s kids, who were adorable. His eldest daughter, Lamar, had very good English. Then we moved to the garden where we played cards, a version of Trumps. I managed to cheat a bit with help of the kids. Finally, as the sun went down, we ate in a big group in the garden, sitting on cushions around a selection of dishes. There was soup and salad, alongside three different meat dishes: chicken, lamb, and fish. The flavours were superb. The family were a lively bunch. At one point, Doctor Fares insisted on feeding us from his hand. I also discovered that they knew one of my colleagues in Eastwood. Lebanon is a very small place! We sang happy birthday to one his kids and topped it all off with cake. It was the best iftar experience so far.
Sunday, 26th May
Went to Souq al-Ahad, the Sunday market, with Bron. Such a crazy place. We bought some spices, some olives and maqdus (baby aubergine stuffed with chilies, and then pickled) from Aleppo, and salvaged an old backgammon board. It’s a great place to wander for a couple of hours. At one stage I was offered a taste of something, and when I said I was fasting he immediately said (in Arabic): “Me too, I’m Muslim. Are you Muslim? Are you Sunni or Shi’a?” I had to disappoint him by saying neither. It was at this point that he said, with utmost confidence: “It’s only a matter of time.” We broke the fast with a vegetable curry, alongside some maqdus and some Lebanese bread.
Monday, 27th May
I was a small bit busy with work tonight so I had three dates followed by a simple pasta with pesto rosso, onions, and tomato. Naturally, had some mint tea and gallons of water.
Tuesday, 28th May
Today, I had the least amount of food yet. I just had a simple pasta with spicy tomato sauce and cheddar cheese. I couldn’t even finish it. I think my stomach has shrunk over the course of Ramadan. I’m definitely losing weight.
Wednesday, 29th May
Today was a tough day. I was in a bad mood for some reason. I think it’s to do with not having enough energy. Usually, during the whole of Ramadan, my mood has been positive. I think I need to eat enough to maintain my energy levels. Tonight I made chicken vindaloo with egg noodles.
Thursday, 30th May
I had more energy today, back to my normal self. I broke the fast with the remainder of my chicken vindaloo. Also, the requisite number of dates and some mint tea.
Friday, 31st May
Another Friday is upon us. The last, in fact, of Ramadan. Tonight is a big night for Muslims around the world. No-one is quite sure exactly when Laylat al-Qadr is supposed to fall, but most believe it’s the 27th day of Ramadan, which is tonight. It’s also a Friday, so it’s a big deal. We had our last group iftar in the apartment. This time we had three Syrians with us, so we had plenty of help with the food. We had a rice and aubergine dish, a water melon and feta salad, a tabbouleh salad, and some fried haloumi. Later, I nipped downstairs to say goodbye to some friends, before moving to Strada 51, a local bar, and winding up in a swimming pool in a club at 4am. Your typical Laylat al-Qadr.
Saturday, 1st June
I had Arabic class with my friend Majd, from about 2pm. He spent half the day preparing a chicken and rice dish to break the fast with at 7.45. Bless him. I broke the fast with this and some delicious Ethiopian soup made by our friend Jodie, called shiro. It was spicy, and the perfect match for the chicken. I followed this with a few drinks with an Irish guy visiting Lebanon for a week.
Sunday, 2nd June
I broke the fast with three dates, some water, and pasta, alongside some fried haloumi. The end is nigh.
Monday, 3rd June
I had to work today, but I’ve been given the rest of the week off work to celebrate Eid al-Fitr, the Festival of Fast Breaking. Today might well be the last night of Ramadan, but we’ll have to wait for the religious authorities to check on the phase of the moon. It will end either tonight or tomorrow.
If Eid begins tomorrow, Muslims will gather for special prayers called Salat al-Eid, which is usually followed by a small breakfast, the first daytime meal in a month. Eid is usually celebrated by visiting relatives, where gifts are exchanged, and zakat is given to the poor. The kids will get a tidy sum of money. Unsurprisingly, food is very important. After a whole month of fasting, all sorts of delicacies will be eaten.
It’s official. Eid begins tonight. The fast is over. I broke the fast by going to Tariq al-Jadida, a busy part of the southern suburbs, with Bron. We then went to Dahieh, where we had some saj with jibneh and zataar, before walking through the market in Sabra and Shatilla. We ended up back in Tariq al-Jadida looking for heloweyat. We weren’t very successful, but we were given free street food: foul with lemon, and seasoned corn. Tomorrow, I’ll go for breakfast in the morning, and then hit the beach.
Epilogue
This month has been really amazing. I’ve learned so much about the traditions of Islam, I’ve met so many different people, I’ve tasted lots of new foods, and I’ve had some great experiences.
It was trying at times, but the effort was definitely worth it. Ramadan really focuses the mind, and makes you very thankful for what you have. It’s also helped me to think more about portion size and also about my own health. Lastly, it’s helped me bond with others who are fasting, and brought me closer to my Muslim friends and students. I can now say with pride that I made it through the full month of Ramadan.

Hello everyone!
Some news before we begin, if you didn’t know this will be my last Zexal Month hosting, you can read the information here. Also @yaminoamber will also not be apart of the Zexal Month team, as she is too busy. So for this year, it will just be @pyrachan and I. Because of us leaving, Pyra will be alone for the other years to organise, which cannot be the case.
In which case, If you would like to be apart of the Zexal Month team, feel free to send Pyra a PM. There are no real requirements for this, just to be apart of the Zexal fandom and be willing to discuss with Pyra prompts and information to keep this month going every year.
Now for 2018 Zexal Month!
For this third year, Zexal Month will be a tad different. I have organised 60 prompts. This time, all of you have your own free mind in what to do for selected days. However, every Friday will have a selected prompt, or theme (Mostly a fun game). Prompts include a saying or message which will then allow all of you to do whatever you like to participate.
How you choose to contribute is entirely up to you.
For example, you could gif, draw, write, edit etc. The options are endless. Participating every day is not required!
With these as well, feel free to mix prompts up together, use more than one a day or use any character from the Zexal series or manga. You can also use your OC’s if you would like, as long as they are related to Zexal.
Rules:
DO NOT REPOST ART FROM OTHER SITES WITHOUT PERMISSION. This includes artists on tumblr. Do not take their work without permission. These include sites that most reposted art are found. (E.g Paintbucket and sites like it, pinterest, instagram etc.)
Respect everyone’s work, headcanon etc.
Please respect any OC’s, fan characters, self inserts etc. Even if you don’t like them, they would mean the world to the creators. I’ll be tagging as ‘zexal oc’s’ if you would like to blacklist that.
Please tag ‘nsfw’ things as they are. Or triggers if you feel the need too.
ALL PROMPTS AND INFORMATION UNDER THE CUT
Wednesday 1st and Thursday 2nd include regular prompt days.
Friday the 3rd includes:
All of your favourites, including:
Favourite Character Favourite Friendship Group or Friendship Pairing Favourite Episode(s) / Manga Chapter(s) Favourite Moment(s) in Anime/Manga Favourite Duel Monster / Non-Human Character (Barian/Astral etc)
Plus any other favourites you would like to share.
Saturday the 4th - Thursday the 9th includes regular prompt days.
Friday the 10th includes a special prompt called ‘BlahBARIAN’:
I originally got this prompt from writers digest but I changed it up a bit since it was fitting.
A scene/s or anything that includes a character speaking a different language, speaking in a thick accent or otherwise speaking in a way that is unintelligible to the other characters. (Note: Be creative with the languages, it could be your own language that isn’t Japanese or English.) Such as, maybe each Yugioh series has a ‘different language’ and Zexal characters try and communicate with them.
Saturday the 11th - Thursday the 16th includes regular prompt days.
Friday the 17th includes a Yuma Day:
Since it is Tasuku Hatanaka’s birthday today, this Friday will be a tribute to anything and everything Yuuma.
Possibilities are endless with this one. Yuuma is in everything, shipping, AUs etc. Go for it. Favourite moments, things Yuuma inspired you about, Yuuma videos, fanfics, art and AU’s. Or if you would like to share any in real life Kattobingu life moments. Nows your chance!
Unfortunately Hatanaka has actually been said too taking a hiatus from his twitter.
Saturday the 18th - Thursday the 23rd includes regular prompt days.
Friday the 24th includes a little fun game called ‘A Game of Reactions’. (This again was from writers digest but I thought it would be fun to try out).
Writers digest originally said this: “A character’s reaction to something without explaining what it is. See if others can guess what it is.” HOWEVER, we could include the fandom as the ‘others’. Such as someone posts a picture from an episode and all of us guess what episode it came from, OR it can be as what it says there and do the content of for charades between a character and the fandom, or a character and another character.
Saturday the 25th - Thursday the 30th includes regular prompt days.
Friday the 31st includes a phrase called ‘Duelling Opposites’.
Again this phrase can be interpreted differently. You could switch personalities or decks, or even switching series. Consider this as a cross over prompt perhaps.
REGULAR PROMPTS ARE AS FOLLOWERS
1. “Do you love me?”
2. “It hurts..”
3. “You are my world.”
4. “I can’t.”
5. “Help me.”
6. “There’s too much blood!”

My first Year as a Fic Writer!

Wow. Yeah. I just realized that it's over a year since I posted my first Skamfic. :) I posted my first chapter of Don't leave me (alone) June 17th last year. And I think I’ll celebrate by patting myself on the shoulder, lol. I have written (posted) 492498 words this year. Damn, that’s much more than I thought. :D With the help of some amazing beta readers I have written 14 fics (1 of them is still a wip). I’ve received almost 3K kudos and lots of lovely comments. It’s pretty cool, really. <3
Actually, I feel like I should celebrate and brag about my fics a little. So here goes (I have parted them up in the three categories I could think of; A hint of magical realism, the apps of love series, and randm is awsm). I would love it if you check out one or two of them!
A hint of Magical Realism:
Don’t leave me (alone)
Slightly magical AU where Even never transferred to Hartvig Nissen, but Even and Isak meet as adults. Isak has some strange déjà vu’s, and it’s like he senses glimpses from another Isak and Even from another world. Altering POV. Chapters: 6. Words: 106,674.
Drunk on Your Colours
Friends to lovers AU where Even is in third year at Hartvig Nissen when Isak starts in first year. Isak has a strange gift that makes him see colours in certain people’s eyes, and the colours reflect who they are and how they feel. Isak’s POV, but also some parts in Even’s POV. Chapters: 5. Words: 71,500.
Trollbundet/Spellbound
A summer fling soulmate AU. Isak has graduated from Nissen and he’s attending Trolsk (Enchanting), an alternative Fair/music festival with his friends. When he meets a guy called Even, they bond. However, Even is reluctant about bonding. Is a summer fling all they will have? Isak’s POV. Chapters: 1. Words: 15,425.
The Apps of Love Series:
The Fake Boyfriend App
AU where Isak is desperately pining for his flatmate Even, and downloads a fake boyfriend app to get over him. When he discovers that the Fake boyfriend is a human, and not a bot, he is sceptical. Isak’s POV. Chapters: 1. Words: 7,305.
The Very Personal Shopper
A shopping service AU. Isak is too lazy to shop his groceries, and too fed up with Eskild’s complaints, and finds that a shopping service would be perfect. But what can he do when his personal shopper turns out to be the most gorgeous guy he has ever seen? Altering POV. Chapters: 2. Words: 21,986.
My Very Personal Ski Trainer
A different meeting AU and sort of a 4 + 1 (Four times Isak and Even don’t talk for real, and one time they do). It’s before Christmas 2016. Even never transferred to Nissen (but Eva transferred to Bakka). Even’s doing his last year at Bakka. Sana has invited Even and her other friends to a Holiday cabin trip, and Even needs to get in shape so that he can beat his buddies in Sana’s planned ski race. He tries out a personal ski trainer app and meets the hot ski trainer Isak Valtersen. Alas, Even struggles to focus only on the training. On the cabin trip, when Even arrives early, a surprise guest turns up and a snowstorm threatens to snow them both in. Even’s POV. Chapters: 5. Words: 28,181.
The Secret Santa App
In this world, Isak and Even met at Nissen, but they were never brave enough to do anything. Isak (25) is a stressed-out salesman for playground equipment. Even (27) is a freshly educated, burned out and lonely children’s psychologist. They meet again when Sana, Eva and Vilde arrange a Secret Santa party. Without knowing it, Isak and Even end up as Secret Santas for each other. This story shows snapshots from the four Sundays before Christmas and Christmas Eve. Isak’s and Even’s altering POV. Chapters: 5. Words: 25,591.
Around the Corner (My Very Personal Christmas Shopper)
A Holiday movie AU (inspired by “The Shop around the corner”, 1940). Isak (22) works in a record shop for Jonas. Isak’s best colleague and friend is Eva, who works in the shop, too. Even (24) comes and asks for a job. The two get off on the wrong foot, although Isak finds Even irritatingly attractive. To complicate things, Isak has just gotten a personal Christmas gift shopper, who turns out to be a very romantic gift shopper, and who doesn’t shy away from a little flirting. Chapters: 4. Words: 51,000.
The Cuddle Snuggle App (WIP)
Halfway through Even’s third year, he has a major episode and is diagnosed with bipolar disorder. When Isak is 16, he moves away from his troubled mother. Both boys have turned their lives upside down, and their new lives are more or less lonely and touch deprived. They meet when Even downloads a cuddler app (mostly for his film project, but also because he needs the touch) and Isak is his professional cuddler. They are both determined to keep the cuddling friendly and platonic, but it proves to be difficult. Altering POV. Chapters: 2/12. Words: 81,647/? (so far).
Randm is awsm:
Different, but same
A canon divergence future post break up fic. Isak and Even has broken up almost a year ago, and Even is devastated. At Easter he tries to get over it and goes on a ski holiday with Yousef and Elias. At the cabin he meets a guy that looks like Isak, except his dark, buzz cut hair, well trained body and rough, charismatic personality. The fact that he calls himself Markus Simensen is even more confusing… Altering POV and time jumps. Chapters: 2/2. Words: 31,620.
A Fucking Bet
– Being fuckbuddies without developing feelings is impossible, Isak. Fucking always leads to trouble.
A fuck buddies AU/ Canon Divergence in Isak’s POV (and one chapter in Even’s POV). Isak and Even are just friends. They make a bet and decide to fuck only five times and then go back to being friends again. Isak hopes that he might be able to fuck his crush out of his system, once and for all. Who knows what Even’s motives are. ;) Chapters: 7/7. Words: 32,793.
To Write a Good Ending
This is my first non Evak fic. Canon divergence, 5+1: Five times Sara kisses someone for the wrong reason, or one time she kisses for the right, or five times Sara is a part of someone else’s story ending, and one time she writes her own ending). Sara’s POV. Chapters: 1/1. Words: 13,205.
My Poison of Choice (Druck)
Matteo has an intoxicating crush on his best friend, Jonas. They have a smoke. Jonas wants to try shotgunning. Matteo’s POV. Chapters: 1/1. Words: 2,456.
An Early Friday Morning
This is a future fic/ drabble. Eva and Jonas wake up and take the chance of a quickie while the kids are busy. That's it. It's a emotional pwp, basically. My very first! Yay! Eva’s POV. Chapters: 1/1. Words: 2,115.
#I can thank my beta readers for this really#skam#skamfics#my fics#fic writing#fanfiction#damn#i can't believe that I have written 1349 words a day#in English!

2020 STRIKES AGAIN
WF THOUGHTS (11/18/20).
There's an old saying: "Timing is everything." Sometimes, timing is a matter of life or death.
Old Mother Time has screwed with millions of people in 2020. Some people, after years of saving money, opened a new business in January or February. They got screwed. Others had long-planned events, like weddings or golden anniversary parties, scheduled for June. They got screwed too. One way or another, thanks to Covid, almost everyone experienced some "bad timing" in 2020.
If you want to feel a little bit better about how timing walloped you in 2020, listen to the story of Lisa Montgomery. Because of some timing issues, her life is on the line.
The start of the story is gruesome. In 2004, when she was 36, Lisa murdered a woman who was 8 months pregnant. Then, Lisa surgically removed the baby. Lisa was caught the next day. The baby was fine.
Lisa was prosecuted in federal court, under a section of the Federal Kidnapping Act, for "kidnapping resulting in a death." Lisa's defense was that she was having a psychotic episode on the day of the tragic event. She claimed that she suffered from various personality disorders, severe depression, and post-traumatic stress disorder. She attributed all of her problems to severe abuse, including rape, at the hands of her deranged and alcoholic parents.
The trial concluded in 2007. The jury didn't believe that Lisa was having delusions during the event. Lisa was convicted, and she was sentenced to death.
At that point, Mother Time did Lisa a favor. In 2003, due to concerns and lawsuits regarding the lethal injection drugs, the federal government had adopted an informal policy that suspended all executions. Lisa certainly wasn't going to be executed quickly, and she might never be executed at all.
Mother Time has a way of catching up to people. In the past year or so, time caught up with Lisa.
Attorney General William Barr is a bad combination of corrupt and mean. In July of 2019, he announced that he was terminating the informal moratorium on federal executions because he was satisfied with the new lethal injection drug. On June 15th of this year, he announced that four men would be executed on July 13th, July 15th, July 17th, and August 28th. Those four men have been executed. They were the first federal executions since 2003.
As 2020 marched on, Barr's killing spree continued. There have been three more executions since July, and there is an execution scheduled for November 19th.
Time caught up with Lisa on October 16, 2020. That Friday night, Barr announced two additional executions for 2020. Lisa's execution was set for December 8th. The youngest man on death row, he was convicted when he was 18 and he's now 39, was scheduled to be executed on December 10th. (The year 1952 was the last time the federal government executed an offender who was 18 at the time of the crime.)
By the time Barr finishes with 2020, he will have executed 10 Americans. That's the same total that the federal government executed in the 66 years before Barr. What's wrong with that picture?
Lisa's execution will be notable because the federal government hasn't executed a woman since 1953. She's the only woman on death row in the federal system. She will be only the third woman to be executed by the federal government since 1865.
Let's focus on Lisa's "bad timing" issues.
Because of the informal federal moratorium, Lisa had been avoiding execution for years. With 60 federal death row inmates to choose from, it's not known why Barr decided to add Lisa to his 2020 killing spree. I guess she just ran out of luck. She's probably not totally aware of her precarious situation. Now 52, she has been diagnosed with bipolar disorder, post traumatic stress disorder, epilepsy, and cerebellar brain dysfunction. She's not always lucid. If she had avoided an execution date for another few months, she probably wouldn't be executed. It's very likely that the Biden administration will restore the federal moratorium on executions. (Twenty-two states have permanently banned executions.) Mother Time caught up with Lisa.
Mother Time walloped Lisa in another way too. When Barr scheduled Lisa's execution on October 16th, he gave her lawyers until November 16th to file a federal clemency petition. In a clemency petition, a federal prisoner asks the President to change the sentence that has been imposed. In this case, Lisa's petition would ask that her sentence be changed to life in prison. Preparing a clemency petition is a massive undertaking. To begin the clemency paperwork, both of Lisa's lawyers went to her prison on October 19th, October 26th, and November 2nd. Mother Time waved her evil hand again. A few days later, both of the lawyers were diagnosed with Covid-19.
They have severe symptoms. They were unable to complete a comprehensive clemency petition. They submitted an abbreviated clemency petition, and they asked that the execution be postponed for a few months so they can recover and submit a full clemency position. Nobody expects any leniency. MotherTime has spoken.
Has 2020 hit you with some unpleasant scheduling or timing issues? Be thankful that you're not Lisa Montgomery. Because her execution has been scheduled before Biden's inauguration, and because her lawyers caught Covid-19, she'll be put to death next month. If the timing was slightly different, she probably wouldn't die. Think about Lisa when you think about your 2020. For most of us, maybe 2020 wasn't so bad after all.

BBC presenters share their lockdown entertainment tips
Haprz Kaur, Will Gompertz, Hannah Peel and Mark Radcliffe
With England in lockdown once more, and plenty of others elements of the UK enduring extreme restrictions, folks need to movie, books, music, on-line artwork, podcasts and extra for his or her cultural kicks.
Right here, BBC presenters and journalists share their lockdown picks. It is an eclectic checklist of options for the place to look subsequent when you fancy some inspiration.
Mark Radcliffe
Veteran broadcaster Mark Radcliffe presents BBC Radio 2’s Folks Present and 6 Music’s weekend chat and music present Radcliffe and Maconie .
The Trial Of The Chicago 7 (Netflix)
youtube
I like a courtroom drama, I have to say. For individuals who do not know the Chicago 7, they had been college students and hippies and anti-Vietnam protesters who picketed on the 1968 Democratic Occasion Conference and had been arrested for inciting riots.
For those who do not forget that 12 months, it was a extremely highly-charged time. Martin Luther King was assassinated in April, after which Bobby Kennedy in June – so that is a rare snapshot of these instances. It nonetheless has a resonance, significantly in how the one black defendant is handled. Within the time of Black Lives Matter and the George Floyd protests, it reminds you that not the whole lot has modified, by a great distance.
Shuggie Bain by Douglas Stuart (Picador books)
That is set within the time of Thatcherism, and it is a tragic story of this younger lad Shuggie Bain, who’s defending and caring for an alcoholic mom, dwelling in excessive poverty. It is moderately Thomas Hardy-esque, in that everyone seems to be doomed to disappointment or dying, but it surely feels very actual. And just like the movie, one suspects life hasn’t modified very a lot for lots of people.
The novel is nominated for the Booker Prize, though I do not typically take that as an enormous advice. I’ve actually introduced Booker-winning novels and thought they had been dreadful.
The Queen’s Gambit (Netflix)
youtube
Anya Taylor-Pleasure performs Beth Harman, who’s in an orphanage at first of the movie, and is intrigued by the janitor who performs chess. He step by step agrees to show her and it seems she’s an absolute prodigy. It is based mostly on a novel by somebody referred to as Walter Tevis but it surely feels prefer it should be true. It is in regards to the connections you make as an orphan – friendships and connections and adoption. And there is plenty of chess.
Story continues
The truth is, we began taking part in chess at house, impressed by it, and my spouse is miles higher than me and she will see a number of strikes forward. We do not play anymore. It obtained too annoying.
Harpz Kaur
The Asian Community presenter has hosted its breakfast present since 2017, having joined the station in 2015 from neighborhood radio.
Strictly Come Dancing (BBC One, iPlayer)
Watching my subsequent door neighbour Clara [Amfo] completely bossing it on display is superb. I am an enormous fan of BBC One’s Strictly Come Dancing anyway, however seeing Clara shine like a Queen is nice. Rooting for her little doubt. And I often discover something music or dance associated to be therapeutic for me. It is enjoyable, a straightforward watch and it is an effective way to wind down. Seize some munchies and sit on the couch whereas having your individual social gathering. It is excellent.
Made In Heaven (Amazon Prime)
youtube
I’ve additionally simply completed watching season certainly one of Made In Heaven. A few colleagues have been that means to get me into it and now I am hooked. It is extra of a drama sequence, but it surely’s so good and retains you on the sting of your seat on the finish of each episode. Cannot wait to begin the second season.
Sister Sister (Netflix)
And thirdly, I am watching Sister Sister, a 1990s US sitcom about twins Tia and Tamera who had been separated at beginning and reunite 14 years later. It is introduced again my youth. And you may by no means get sufficient. For those who grew up watching Tia and Tamera, you already understand how good it’s. For those who fancy a giggle, put them on.”
Bobby Friction
DJ Friction has been on the BBC airwaves since 2002, and is now presenting the Asian Community’s night present.
House movies (YouTube)
It is the largest type of escapism – neglect pandemics, let’s discuss 1,000-year journeys to different galaxies.
He devours YouTube sequence by scientists and futurists John Michael Godier and Isaac Arthur, who use science reality to look at what may truly be doable past Earth.
They will swing between stuff that is taking place in our photo voltaic system to actual mad stuff like, what is going to the universe appear to be a trillion years from now? After which they will break it down utilizing actual physics and actual science.
The Actual Housewives of America (Sky, ITV Be, Amazon Prime Video)
youtube
I do not watch a lot TV or actuality exhibits,” says Friction. “However I fell into this gap of watching The Actual Housewives of Atlanta and The Actual Housewives of Potomac. It wasn’t till the summer season that I went, ‘Wait a minute, they’re the one two actuality exhibits from that franchise that function black girls. Each different present options white girls.
I am subconsciously coping with Black Lives Matter, race and the whole lot that is taking place this 12 months through these actuality exhibits. Imagine me, I’ve fallen so deep into them. Anybody who asks a query in regards to the seasons or the episodes, I’ve the reply.
The Beatles
Friction has been rediscovering The Beatles by listening to all their albums back-to-back once more.
“I simply obtained again into it and thought, my God, how did these guys write practically each style of music that we’re nonetheless listening to? And also you’re telling me they launched The White Album and Yellow Submarine and Sgt Pepper inside the area of 18 months? It is ridiculous.”
Will Gompertz
Will Gompertz has been arts editor for BBC Information since 2009 and earlier than that was a director on the Tate Gallery.
What I Love (podcast)
I am loving this podcast, introduced by the award-winning theatre director Ian Rickson. It has a easy format: one visitor with whom Rickson has labored selects three issues she or he loves. Chiwetel Ejiofor included a Michael Kiwanuka tune, Kae Tempest picked a e book by William Blake. Good listening.
Strata: William Smith’s Geological Maps (Thames & Hudson)
Some books are lovely, others are enlightening. Strata is each. Full of beautiful illustrations, it presents the work of William Smith, a 17th Century geologist, who was the primary individual to comprehensively map the earth beneath our toes. It is the most effective non-fiction e book I’ve learn in a very long time.
Name My Agent (Netflix)
French TV would not get that a lot consideration for some purpose – however they produce some nice programmes. Spiral is the most effective police procedural on telly, whereas Name My Agent is the right lockdown escape: uptight actor’s brokers coping with uptight actors in a Paris workplace the place they find yourself both bickering or sleeping with one another. Or each. Tres bon!
Hannah Peel
Musician Hannah Peel presents late-night Radio three present Evening Tracks, which ranges from classical to up to date music. She was Emmy-nominated final 12 months for her soundtrack for HBO’s Video games of Thrones: The Final Watch.
Notes On Blindness (Obtain, Netflix)
youtube
This can be a documentary in regards to the author John Hull, who went blind simply earlier than the beginning of his son and began to make a diary of audio cassettes. Within the movie you hear all of the precise recording, and it is simply unimaginable.
You are immersed in a world of sound, as a substitute of being completely bombarded with visible info. It sounds prefer it must be a podcast, but it surely actually works as a movie – delving into the thoughts and the physique and desires and reminiscence. I feel it is a masterpiece.
Bandcamp (Unbiased music retailer)
I am Bandcamp all the best way, for the whole lot. They do an incredible factor as soon as a month referred to as Bandcamp Friday, the place each artist will get 100% of the revenue on their merchandise or downloads or CD gross sales. It is the one place that does that within the music business.
The very last thing I purchased was a compilation by a beautiful little indie label referred to as Salmon Universe, who put out plenty of ambient, digital music. I like compilations since you’re led to artists from all internationally, from Ohio to Japan. It is superb.
Islands (RTÉ podcast)
That is made by the world-renowned sound recordist Chris Watson, who’s teamed up with the author/presenter Luke Clancy to take a journey throughout the atlas of distant islands, from Ross Island to the Galapagos to the probably legendary isle of HyBrasil.
It is filled with tales and sounds, and it is lovely. I similar to the best way you need to use podcasts to specific one thing emotional, moderately than factual. So that you get a way of ethereal escapism inside that.
Mark Savage
Mark has been the BBC’s music reporter since 2015, and introduced 6 Music’s Historical past of Video Sport Music final 12 months.
Ted Lasso (Apple TV)
youtube
After Schitt’s Creek ended, I used to be desperately trying to find a TV present that hit the identical candy spot of belly-laughs and heart-warming humour. That is that present.
Starring Jason Sudeikis, it tells the story of an American Soccer coach who involves London to supervise a fictional Premiership workforce, regardless of figuring out nothing about soccer. Unbeknownst to him, the membership’s proprietor (performed with scrumptious relish by Hannah Waddingham) is making an attempt to get the workforce relegated to spite her adulterous husband. I will not spoil the plot, however the present’s relentlessly optimistic tone is simply what I wanted in lockdown.
Pikmin three Deluxe (Nintendo)
Pikmin is not as well-known as Nintendo’s larger franchises, like Mario and Zelda, but it surely’s been made with simply as a lot care and a spotlight to element. You play as a crew of astronauts, stranded on a hostile planet, who need to enlist a crop of plant-like creatures to assist them discover the lacking elements of their spaceship.
You command as much as 100 of the little Pikmin, every of whom have completely different talents (some are fighters, some are swimmers, others are impervious to electrical energy) to resolve a bunch of more and more difficult puzzles towards a time restrict. It is concurrently enjoyable and panic-inducing; however I have been specializing in finishing the much less worrying problem mode with my 10-year-old, who simply likes throwing the Pikmin round and laughing at their cute noises.
Dua Lipa – Future Nostalgia (Warner Music)
youtube
Rush-released in the beginning of the primary lockdown, that is nonetheless my favorite document of the 12 months. A sweat-glistened hymn to the dancefloor, it by no means fails to raise my temper.
The album is getting the dwell therapy later this month, with a digital gig that is been dubbed Studio 2054 – with Dua promising (deep breath) “a kaledioscopic, rocket-fuelled, journey by way of time, area, mirrorballs, curler discos, bucket hats, belting beats, throbbing basslines and an absolute slam-dunk of the most effective instances in international membership tradition”. See you there. Hotpants elective.
Elizabeth Alker
The BBC Radio three broadcaster presents late-night present Unclassified, which showcases music by composers who may need a classical background but in addition draw from pop, rock, jazz, and experimental music.
Ms Ice Sandwich by Mieko Kawakami (Pushkin Press)
The Japanese writer’s novella is evocative however breezy, conversational and unsentimental. She’s coping with the difficulties and complexity of human life however in a extremely relatable, heat and humorous method.
It is in regards to the relationship between an adolescent and their mom. It is a coming-of-age story and in regards to the anxieties of being a youngster, however you get to see it from either side. You’ll be able to sense what the mom’s feeling as properly. She’s a fortune teller and their grandma’s ailing upstairs. It is a household story about feminine identification in Japan.
Fats Out Fest (YouTube)
The annual music competition from Salford-based underground and different promoters, Fats Out Fest occurred dwell on-line this 12 months, and they’re now placing units on YouTube each Friday over the subsequent month.
They actually do take it to the sting. On 20 November they’re broadcasting Lone Taxidermist – her exhibits are wild. It is efficiency artwork in addition to music. Her new present Marra begins along with her singing alongside to a cattle market. An precise cattle market. Her voice is synced with the auctioneer and Maxine Peake is within the video. It is on the market.
Radiophrenia (Streaming)
Radiophrenia is a Glasgow sound artwork radio station that is streaming 24/7 till 22 November. I used to be listening to an Italian sound artist referred to as Tobia Bandini. He’d interviewed all these folks asking for his or her response to the apocalypse after which he’d combine their tales – they’re all in Italian – with digital soundscapes.
If you wish to tune out of the information then this can be a very nice place to flee to. There’s all types in there, and plenty of it’s simply actually pleasing and fairly hypnotic.
