So the fight is really over...my glorious four armed giant spider is gone. Yuji really was foreshadowing about the slime thingy heh. I'm so happy to see the trio back and together again like you tell me this a year ago this is what was going to happen and I'd just give you a maniacal laugh. But I still don't know how to feel about Sukuna's end like we all knew he was going to die and in perspective it does feels satisfying. Sukuna being ripped apart from Megumi and his little convo with Megumi...yeah dude really is walking contradiction. Always saying he's living to die but actually doesn't want to die. Indirectly answering Kashimo's question. But his end just seems...eh? Like at first Kenjaku's end seemed like that to me too but it made sense later on. Kenjaku came in silence and went like that but Sukuna he was never like Kenjaku or Mahito so his ending being parallel to Mahito didn't really sit right with me and i actually wanted him to get anything but a glorious death but this feels...stale somehow? Idk he's still the same untrue to himself. Wish we could get more of his thought process. Or maybe this was it to show Sukuna's denial became his defeat. I just hoped for more emotionally charged defeat of his..but it's GeGe story I'm happy they're telling it like they want to.
Also Uraume and Hakari was funny too they fought all this time bonded, praised and just dipped. Makes me think if they had a binding vow with Sukuna too? Sorry for all the yap and incoherence. I'm just feeling underwhelmed? Overwhelmed? what are your thoughts regarding this chapter and Suku's end?
"my glorious four armed giant spider is gone" took me out sksksksk he's really just a bug when you think about it lol.
anyway thank you for sending me your ask. I really liked reading your thoughts and how you called suku out for being contradictory and a hypocrite till the very end AS YOU SHOULD THANK YOU!! honestly, this fact alone makes the whole chapter all the more special to me but on this in a sec cause I'm guessing the reaction to his demise is quite... well I guess ppl are not really happy with it..??? I mean some of them probably are and by "some" I mean *cough, cough* the haters *cough, cough* but well... I wouldn't know cause ONE I'm actually (and maybe surprisingly) super pleased and satisfied with this chapter and TWO, I didn't go and check others reaction to it lol I'm planning to keep it that way for now. I'm really not a big fan of twt fandoms spaces in fact I can't stand them... too much negativity and toxicity *shudders*.
so my thoughts... to put it simply, I loved it more than loved it actually. and yeah yeah sure he turned into a slimy lil bug which probably put many people off but hey let's not forget sukuna was basically like a parasite possessing megumi's body, so it makes sense that once peeled off only curse-like residues would remain... but I can understand why some stans didn't like that part. I personally found funny but that's just me lol.
and yeah the final seemed quite underwhelming, but I think that's what makes it so good. I didn't want sukuna's death to be the most interesting thing about his character and well it's not. rather than having a big an "after life" moment like jogo, gojo or kashimo, he spent his last moments with the only person who cared about the human sukuna so stubbornly tried to burry inside him.
I actually found his conclusion to be quite beautiful and moving, cause instead of being looked down upon by yuuji as many stans thought would be the case, he was offered something else entirely. something no one ever gave him - kindness and love. yes, I'm using the "L" word here cause in the end that's what it was... yuuji showed sukuna the true value of love. he accepted him and ask him to live with him despite everything sukuna has put him through. despite all the chaos chaos and distraction he caused him, yuuji still accepted him. he not only showed sukuna genuine empathy and compassion but also recognised that sukuna is really... just like him. when yuuji looked into (blop) sukuna's eyes (my beloved) he could only see himself. he realised that under different circumstances, he could've turned out like sukuna if he didn't have his grandpa by his side. he realised that if he could have turned out like sukuna then sukuna could've turned out like him too, that if only sukuna had someone who loved him and guided him and accepted him, he most likely wouldn't have turned into a curse, which is another thing I loved and cry about in this chapter.
sukuna only saw himself as a curse :")). he acknowledged yuuji and finally called him by his full name but in the end he still only think of himself as a "curse" not as human, not even as a god or king of curses but only a curse :")).
the reason why I loved just how "underwhelming" his death felt like is because instead of framing and defining his entire character by his his final moments, gege made the rest of his moments in the manga stand out EVEN MORE. instead of having a moment of reflection and introspection in this chapter as well as in chapter 265 or 266... and oh well entire shinjiku showdown basically, his character started to trip and reveal just how contradictory he is. sukuna claimed he was satisfied with his life and doesn't care about dying, he also claimed he doesn't care about ideals and even despised them, he also claimed he doesn't feel anything and he doesn't need others to satisfy him and then you have all those small moments when you realise "wait, that is not right" and you look back and rethink everything. sukuna does feel and he NEEDS others to satisfy him, cause that's what his entire "philosophy" hinges on.
"Every human has a unique and fleeting taste... which makes devouring them a perfect way to pass time until death"
he DID get excited when maki became the first person to ever give him a role
This is a first. You're the only one who ever forced a role upon me. (while grinning like a maniac)
and then megumi lied his bs out in the open and revealed that sukuna was afraid of death too, despite believing otherwise
Even something like you fears death...
this only goes to show that sukuna convinced himself (and many other readers) that he is not human, that he is above that, that he doesn't care about the things they do... but if even "something like him" feared death, got excited to be given a role, praised and encouraged others for their talents and skills and connected to them in one way another only to "pass time" or knew about flowers and caught a crayfish then that means... he must be human too.
and even if sukuna and the rest of the world couldn't and didn't want to accept that, there was one person who did. someone sukuna hurt the most, someone who saw him at his worst and at his weakest. someone who in the end still decided to show him love, because he belived sukuna is still worthy of love, despite everyone and maybe even sukuna himself, believing that he no longer is worthy of such thing.
"Even if no one else will accept you... I'll live with you" "Itadori Yuuji... don't underestimate me. I'm... a "curse"!

Thoughts on JJK chapter 271 - the last chapter (spoilers)
Tumblr media
I did a live reading of this chapter you can find here if you're interested how my panel per panel thoughts progressed while reading it 😄
This very last chapter we start where we left off in ch 270: with the mission where the woman can't see the face of her boyfriend correctly anymore.
The first year trio are hard at work thinking through their options on what to do and how to pull that curse user out of hiding. We get a new sort of funny faces from the idiot duo, for them at least, I think these faces appeared in the Kenjaku/Takaba fight as well
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The trio enacts their plan now and they catch the perpetrator really fast. Nobara does some funny yet unnecessary property damage in the process and we first get a cool panel of her and Yuji together than another silly panel of them not able to see their faces properly.
The perpetrator btw is a no name never before seen character created just for this mission so the guys can have one last low stakes adventure together.
We get a Gojo flashback giving Yuji a talk, saying his students should become better than him and forget him too, at least one of them. It isn't out of character for Gojo to say that but the placement and the build up for it is somewhat unsatisfying.
Yuji shows how he internalized Gojo's last words by encouraging the criminal to be better.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
We get a cool Megumi pose with Kon after he showed us why he was the brains in the group but unfortunately that's basically it for him. Even though he was possessed and tortured by Sukuna for a month there is nothing left of that on him except superficial scars.
When Sukuna took him over Megumi was turned into an object meant to suffer. Now it feels like he's still that: an object but this time meant to be happy in a forcefully conflict free way.
When the readers believed in the dream theory, elements like that was where our thoughts came from. This forceful happy ending for everyone, a genre shift from what JJK had been at this point 🤔
Tumblr media
Now we get a surprise Mahito and Sukuna interaction in the space before souls move on. Their conversation is interesting as is the reference to Sukuna's past and what he chose for himself.
In a way it was always apparent that Sukuna was bullshitting the people around him when he talked about himself and what others should do and not. For me it was the speech he gave to Yuji after possessing Megumi about how Yuji should stifle his misery because he was born low.
That immediately stood in stark contrast to what he later said to Kashimo about being born unwanted and cursed because now he admitted that he was in Yuji's position once too and still he developed that insanely arrogant self image.
My problem here is that this interaction references things that were not implied before like what his two paths above were supposed to be. Every time I look at that I get new ideas on what it could've been he's talking about.
It's good to have room for interpretation on someone's backstory. But to this degree it's just confusing. I thought the woman on the left is his mother, others said it could be Kenjaku or Yorozu. Whoever that is, the meaning of what Sukuna says changes drastically here.
His relationship and history with Uraume is also insufficiently explored. This scene unfortunately does not have the emotional impact it could've had if Gege had planted the correct seeds previously.
Sukuna walking away from the curse that represents human hatred however is meaningful. That part was halfway build up during the Yorozu fight when Sukuna said he would be willing to accept defeat.
Tumblr media
We get the end of the manga the way it started: with Sukuna's last finger back in a box in a small shrine. It's poetic but the path towards it, these last chapters and the last arcs...
...it felt underwhelming, not gonna lie. Towards this ending were those unneeded scenes with the NSS and even the majority of this chapter was unnecessary and wasted time. What could've been a better last chapter than this while still hitting all the same beats would've been one solely from Sukuna's point of view.
Sukuna from before his birth, his infancy, his childhood. Showing us the path he talks about here. Giving us a glimpse on what the Calamity was, his relationship with Uraume, showing us why he accepted Kenjaku's offer. Then the canon timeline but all of it from his view. His thoughts on Megumi while he possessed him. Even the talk Yuji had with Gojo could've been shown because of the established resonance between Yuji and Sukuna.
Then should come his talk with Mahito. Then we would've understood and sympathized with it without problems .
We did not need the trio's last mission. The end scene of ch 270 was enough to make us imagine that mission on our own. This chapter could've been about sth with more meaning and the exact ending of it could've still been achieved without problems, all e.g. with Sukuna's last thoughts narrated over the happy faces of Gojo's students 😣
Overall I liked the chapter but I felt like sth was missing from this entire ending. It was safe for Gege to write I guess but it was also boring in a lost potential kind of way...
...and then I see that fucking time on that one panel and I think again about Gege wanting to troll us!
Tumblr media
That's the same time we saw in ch 269 and I have no idea what it's supposed to mean. So now I'll make one last fucked up prediction, partly meant to be serious, mostly meant to entertain me these last few hours before the official gets released:
The digital release of chapter 271 is going to be a different chapter than the magazine release.
Why???? Because wtf not?? Shueisha and Gege probably too hate the leaks and don't you think this is only a problem in the anglosphere. Of course the Japanese side distributes these leaks around as well. From one small glimpse I saw, Japanese fans are wondering if JJK was cancelled because of this ending.
It would also fit with the dream theory or just my own thoughts from above about a differently structured last chapter.
So like, why not troll the fanbase? Many of whom have shown with Gojo's death chapter how they can't keep their eyes away from the leaks. Previously my own thoughts had been that WSJ could release final chapters like this exclusively on digital first to nip the leak problem in the bud.
But like, don't take this theory too seriously 😄

Was it ever explained why Tsumiki, in particular was chosen to be a vessel to a reincarnated sorcerer? I've yet to reread the Culling Games so I may have forgotten or didn't notice the explanation, but on the chance that it was never cleared up, don't you think it's way too convenient how it all played out? That the 'opportunity' Sukuna was waiting for happened because Yorozu (his glorified simp) reincarnated in the body of Megumi's sister?
Makes me wonder what was Sukuna planning to do if Yorozu possessing Tsumiki was out of the equation? Cause we know he can't harm anyone because of his pact with Yuji. Maybe he'd have Uraume kidnap/kill Tsumiki. But I doubt that would be enough to get Megumi to succumb completely though. Since it wasn't until Sukuna killed Tsumiki with the TST that Megumi relented and I doubt having someone else kill his sister would have the same effect.
It also raises the question of how involved Kenjaku was in this whole ordeal? Cause pretty sure he's the one planting these reincarnated sorcerers and picking their hosts. I'm aware he had suspicions that Sukuna has his eyes on one of the students (though I'm not sure if he knew it was Megumi that Sukuna took interest in) but I don't think he and Sukuna were in cahoots in this at all (at the very least they didn't make any mention of it in any of their conversations we've seen). So does that mean, Tsumiki have always been a vessel ever since she fell into coma. Did Kenjaku just get lucky when choosing a vessel or did he purposely target Tsumiki because of Megumi (maybe he kept track of them because they were related to Toji)?
Then there's the fact that way back in chapter 1, Megumi who was sent by Gojo to retrieve Sukuna's finger just so happens to also be a compatible vessel. Like we all know, with Yuji Kenjaku was pulling the strings in the back. Didn't Kenjaku say that it didn't matter if Yuji swallowed the finger then cause he'd still find another way to make Yuji eat it? But what's the case with Megumi?
Is it really just coincidence, that in a one in a million chance, he so happens to have the capability and compatibility to host Sukuna as well? I remember someone mentioning it before but looking back at chapter 1, it seemed like Gojo and Kenjaku were both sending their 'champions' to retrieve a famed treasure (Sukuna's finger) and it's just so funny cause in a way it reminds me of Kenjaku's beef with the 6 eyes and limitless users. No wonder they were the bane of his existence 😂.
But back onto the question, is it fate/destiny? Cause the concept seems alien in JJK's standards. I wonder if aside from Kenjaku there's someone else orchestrating their own scheme behind the curtain.
It's just, there's so many suspicious stuff surrounding Megumi's increasing 'connection' to Sukuna that I wonder if this is somehow a play on fated souls or something else completely. In any case, I would really love to know your thoughts on this, and pls do correct me if I was remembering things wrong.
Wait... just... um... just saying that I love Yorozu lol. This is a Yorozu certified friendly blog lmao.
She's my crazy bitch I love her.
AND to your point, I'm not sure anymore. Like, let's say it was a twist that could be under way, or it could totally just be thick ass plot armor and Gege didn't think too much into it lol.
But....
Tumblr media
I hope it's the former. Perhaps it was a coincidence that Sukuna happened to take an interest in Megumi, but something about Tsumiki being chosen feels like it could potentially be an obvious attempt at getting the Zenin kid with 10s ct involved in a major conflict like the Culling Game.
Tumblr media
To be fair, I think it's still to soon to tell, but in retrospect, it really does look like Sukuna saw a shiny object (10s) that he decided he wanted to take for his own gain.
I do still feel like Sukuna acknowledges Megumi's potential, which goes back to what you said about the lengths he had to go through to break Megumi's will.
If there is a fated soul connection here, I think it comes back to how Megumi has to overcome Sukuna. Sukuna represents what Megumi could be if he got out of his way--Sukuna's mindset is unburdened by love and reason and so he is free to be himself.
In that sense, Sukuna has been a catalyst for Megumi's growth from the beginning.
Idk I'm having a hard time grounding this idea but I totally see what you mean. It's something that feels like it was a coincidence, but wasn't really a coincidence lol.
Ah! Sorry anon, that's kind of all the thoughts I have on the topic atm. Not sure if that helps. Let's keep this in mind tho, not only is it good brainrot, the theme of fate is running in the background in jjk.
Thanks for stopping by!
