Max Verstappen lived for speed. The roar of the engine, the blur of the track, the thunderous applause of the crowdâthis was his kingdom. At twenty-seven, he was already a legend, a three-time Formula One World Champion whose name was etched into the annals of the sport. And this season? It was shaping up to be another triumph. Four wins in the first five races, podium finishes for all of them, and whispers in the paddock that he was untouchable.
He had every reason to be confident. The car was a beastâprecision-engineered, relentless in its power. His team was operating like clockwork, every pit stop a perfectly executed ballet. But above all, she was there. His fiancĂ©e. She didnât need to speak to make her presence known; her calm, unwavering gaze from the paddock was like a talisman. He could feel her watching, believing in him, and it drove him forward.
After his most recent victory in Japan, he leaned against the garage wall, sweat still beading on his forehead. She approached him, her smile soft and private, meant just for him. The cameras flashed around them, capturing their moment, but he hardly noticed.
âYouâre unstoppable,â she murmured, low enough that only he could hear.
âFor you? Always,â he replied, brushing a gloved hand over her cheek before he was whisked away to interviews.
Everything was perfect. The season was his to lose, and he had no intention of letting that happen.
Six races later, the Max Verstappen that stood on the grid in Barcelona was not the same man who had claimed victory in Japan. His car was still strong, and his team still flawless. But the man behind the wheel was... distracted.
The cracks had started to show at the Monaco Grand Prix. A clumsy lock-up during qualifying left him sixth on the grid. In Hungary, he was slow off the line and struggled to match the pace of the leaders, finishing fifth.
The press was quick to pounce.
âWhatâs happening to Verstappen?â the headlines screamed.
Max shrugged it off, his trademark confidence still on display. âItâs the car,â he said with a wry smile after Hungary. âWeâre making adjustments. Itâll come good.â
It was a convenient excuse, one his team begrudgingly accepted because of who he was. But the truth was far more complexâand far more personal.
She wasnât here.
She hadnât been at the last couple of races. At first, sheâd said she wasnât feeling well, and Max had brushed it off. But then the phone call came.
âIâm pregnant,â sheâd whispered, her voice trembling. âIâI want to tell you in person, but I donât think I can travel.â
In that moment, his world shifted. Joy, fear, and an overwhelming need to protect her collided in his chest. The image of her radiant on their wedding day-to-be now came with anotherâher cradling a newborn, their newborn. And with that came a thousand anxieties heâd never anticipated.
At every moment since, his thoughts werenât on the track but on her. Was she eating enough? Was she getting rest? What if something went wrong, and he wasnât there?
But no one knew. Not his team, not the press, not even his closest rivals. To them, Max Verstappen was still the king of the circuit. He could never let them see otherwise.
It was lap 32 of the Hungarian Grand Prix, and Max was battling for third with Charles. The two cars screamed through the corners, inches apart, but Max hesitated. He felt itâhis grip loosened, his focus wavered. For the first time in his career, he wasnât sure he could make the move stick.
Charles darted ahead, and Max watched as the gap widened. His engineerâs voice crackled in his ear.
âMax, youâre losing time in Sector 2. Whatâs going on?â
âJust the car,â he lied, jaw tight. âItâs sluggish through the corners.â
He crossed the finish line in fourth. As he stepped out of the car, he pulled off his helmet, running a hand through sweat-soaked hair. The cameras were on him, the journalists waiting. But all he could think about was her.
He needed to call. To hear her voice. To know she was okay.
The season was far from over, but the battle raging within Max was one heâd never prepared for. And as he watched his championship hopes start to slip through his fingers, he knew one thing for certain: no race, no trophy, no accolade mattered more than the life he was about to build off the track.
The Belgian Grand Prix was a race Max Verstappen wanted to forget. Heâd spent the entire weekend battling the carâor so he told anyone who asked. But deep down, he knew the problem wasnât mechanical. The fault lay within himself, his mind a chaotic swirl of worry and love that refused to quiet, no matter how fast he drove.
When he was finally allowed to go back to the hotel, the first thing he wanted to do was go home. Not the sprawling apartment in Monaco that everyone assumed was his sanctuary, but the smaller, quieter house tucked away in the English countryside. The place where she was.
It was just after midnight when his car pulled into the gravel driveway. The house was dark except for the soft glow of a single lamp in the living room window. She always left it on for him. He slipped inside quietly, leaving his suitcase in the car.
She was asleep, of course. Seven months pregnant and glowing with a beauty that stole his breath even in her most unguarded moments. He found her curled on her side in their bed, one hand resting protectively over her rounded belly. Max dropped his coat on the chair and toed off his shoes before slipping into the bed beside her.
He pressed a kiss to her temple, careful not to wake her, and then rested his head gently against her belly. The warmth of her skin, the faint, rhythmic thrum of her breathing, and the thought of the tiny life growing inside herâit was everything he needed to feel whole again.
âHi, little one,â he whispered, his voice soft and filled with wonder. âItâs me. Iâm finally home.â
As if in response, there was a small kick against his cheek. Max grinned, a tear slipping down his face as he chuckled quietly.
âAlready a fighter,â he murmured. âJust like your mum.â
Her hand came to rest in his hair, threading through the blonde strands. He startled slightly, realising she was awake, her sleepy smile illuminated by the faint moonlight streaming through the window.
âYouâre back,â she said, her voice thick with drowsiness.
âAlways,â he replied, turning his head to kiss her palm. âHow are you feeling? Howâs our little champion?â
âBoth fine,â she reassured him. âWe missed you.â
âI missed you more,â he said, shifting up to lie beside her, wrapping an arm protectively around her waist. His hand settled over hers on her belly, and they stayed like that for a long moment, the world outside forgotten.
The days that followed were a giftâa rare stretch of time without races, press obligations, or the relentless demands of the championship fight. They spent their mornings in the garden, her feet propped up on his lap while he read aloud from the parenting books sheâd stacked on the table. Afternoons were lazy, filled with naps, quiet conversations, and the occasional moment when he leaned down to kiss her belly and whisper to their unborn child.
One evening, as they sat together on the couch, her head resting on his shoulder, she turned to him with a thoughtful look.
âYou should tell them,â she said softly.
âTell who what?â he asked, though he already knew.
âYour team. The press. Everyone.â She tilted her head, watching him carefully. âYouâve been carrying this alone for too long. Theyâll understand.â
Max sighed, leaning back against the cushions and closing his eyes. âI like it like this,â he said after a moment. âItâs ours. Just ours. I donât want them to turn this into... headlines or speculation. I want to keep it safe.â
She reached for his hand, threading her fingers through his. âYouâre not just keeping it safe, love. Youâre keeping it locked away. And itâs hurting you.â
He kissed her forehead, a slow, lingering gesture that spoke more than words could. âItâs not hurting me. Itâs the only thing keeping me sane. When Iâm out there, and itâs all chaos and noise, this is what I hold onto. You. Our little one. Itâs my anchor.â
Her expression softened, and she leaned into him, her hand resting lightly on his chest. âYou know Iâll support you, whatever you decide. But you donât have to carry this alone.â
âI know,â he murmured, pressing his lips to her hair. âBut for now, I want it to stay ours. Just a little longer.â
The break passed too quickly, as it always did, but for Max, it was enough. The air in Austin was electric. Max, back from the summer break and seemingly rejuvenated, had shown flashes of his old brilliance in the first half of the race. But a controversial move during a heated battle for second had earned him a twenty-second penalty. The disappointment was palpable.
In the press conference afterward, he faced a barrage of questions, his jaw tight as he fielded them with his usual composure. But his heart wasnât in it. He hadnât seen her in weeks, and the gnawing ache of being apart was beginning to wear on him.
The penalty stung less than the silence in his hotel room later that night. The upcoming triple-headerâAustin, Mexico City, SĂŁo Pauloâmeant thereâd be no chance to go home. Three weeks without her, without hearing the steady rhythm of her breathing as she slept beside him or feeling the flutter of their babyâs kicks beneath his hand. He stared at his phone for hours, tempted to call, but stopped himself. She needed rest. He could wait.
The race in SĂŁo Paulo had just wrapped up. Max won, a result he shouldâve been thrilled with, but all he could think about was getting back to England. The charter flight to London felt endless, the hours dragging as he stared out the window, replaying every voicemail sheâd left him over the past week. Each one sounded more tired, more distant, and it made his chest tighten with unease.
When he finally arrived home, the house was eerily quiet. He dropped his bags in the hallway, calling out her name. No answer. He checked the bedroom, the nurseryâthey were empty. Panic began to rise as he pulled out his phone and dialled her number.
She picked up on the second ring.
âHello?â Her voice was soft but carried an edge of exhaustion.
âWhere are you?â he asked, his voice tinged with worry. âIâm home, and youâre not here.â
âIâm at my mumâs,â she replied.
âWhy?â His voice dropped, laced with confusion. âWhatâs going on?â
There was a pause, a beat of silence that stretched too long. And then, she said it.
âI had the baby.â
The words hit him like a jolt. He froze, his breath catching in his throat. âYou what?â he whispered, as though saying it louder would make it less real.
âI had the baby,â she repeated, her tone gentle, but firm. âTwo weeks ago.â
âWhy didnât you tell me?â he asked, his voice a mix of hurt and disbelief.
âYou had a job to do, Max,â she said softly. âI didnât want to distract you.â
âDistract me?â He ran a hand through his hair, pacing the kitchen. âYouâre my family. How could you think I wouldnât drop everything to be there?â
âI know,â she said, her voice breaking slightly. âBut I also know you. Youâve been carrying so much this season, and I didnât want to add to it. You were halfway across the world, love. There was nothing you couldâve done.â
He wanted to argue, to tell her that she was wrong, that he wouldâve found a way. But deep down, he understood. She was protecting him in her own way, just as he always tried to protect her.
âIs he... okay?â he asked finally, his voice softening.
âHeâs perfect,â she said, and he could hear the smile in her voice. âHealthy and beautiful. I wanted to surprise you when you got home, but we needed a bit of extra help, so I came here.â
âIâm coming now,â he said immediately. âIâll be there in an hour.â
The drive to her motherâs house felt like an eternity. When he finally pulled into the driveway, he barely remembered turning off the car before he was at the front door. Her mother greeted him with a warm smile and a quiet, âSheâs upstairs.â
He took the steps two at a time, his heart pounding in his chest. When he reached the bedroom, he paused in the doorway.
She was sitting on the bed, her hair tied back loosely, her face glowing with a tired kind of happiness. And in her arms, wrapped in a soft blue blanket, was their son.
Max stepped inside slowly, his breath catching as he took in the sight. âHi,â he said softly, his voice almost trembling.
âHi,â she replied, smiling up at him. âCome meet him.â
He crossed the room, sitting beside her on the bed. She shifted the baby gently, placing him into Maxâs waiting arms. For a moment, he could only stare.
Tiny fingers peeked out from the blanket, curling slightly as the baby let out a soft sigh. His nose, his chinâso small, so perfect.
âWhatâs his name?â Max asked, his voice barely above a whisper.
âWe agreed on Emilian,â she said, her eyes shining. âEmilian Lucian Verstappen.â
He looked up at her, his throat tight with emotion. âYou gave him my name?â
âOf course,â she said, reaching out to touch his cheek. âYouâre his dad. And heâs going to know how much you love him, even when youâre halfway across the world.â
Max pressed a kiss to his sonâs forehead, a tear slipping down his cheek. âI love you,â he whispered, his voice breaking slightly. âBoth of you. More than anything.â
As Emilian stirred slightly in his arms, Max smiled. Heâd missed the moment of his sonâs birth, something heâd carry with him always. But here, holding his son for the first time, he knew he was exactly where he needed to be.
For two precious weeks, Max stayed home. It was just him, her, and Emilian. Those days blurred into a haze of quiet momentsâfeeding, changing, and rocking his son to sleep. He wasnât just a racing legend at home; he was a father, learning the delicate art of swaddling and singing lullabies off-key at three in the morning.
His fiancée was radiant, even in her moments of exhaustion. Max found himself watching her more than ever, in awe of her strength. At night, they talked in whispers, Emilian nestled between them in a bassinet. For once, the championship felt like a distant dream.
But as the days passed, reality crept back in. The Las Vegas Grand Prix was the next race and the stakes couldnât be higher. His rival, Lando Norris, was trailing him by just a decent amount of points, but if Max bottled it, it wouldnât go well for his title. A strong finish could secure Max his fourth championship, but it would be a fight to the very last lap.
The night before his flight to Vegas, Max sat beside her on the couch, Emilian cradled in his arms. He had spent the entire day rehearsing his pitch, trying to strike the perfect balance of persuasion and sensitivity.
âYou know,â he began, his tone casual, âVegas is going to be a big deal. Probably the biggest race of my career.â
She glanced up from her tea, raising an eyebrow. âI thought every race was the biggest of your career.â
âThis is different,â he said, grinning. âIf I beat Lando by a certain amount of points, I get the title. My fourth title.â
Her smile softened. âI know. And you will. You always find a way.â
He hesitated, bouncing Emilian gently as the baby dozed. âCome with me,â he said suddenly.
Her eyes widened. âMaxââ
âI know itâs a lot to ask,â he cut in quickly, âand I wouldnât ask if I didnât think you could handle it. But the doctors said youâre fit to fly, right?â
âYes, butââ
âPlease,â he said, his voice earnest. âI need you there. Both of you. Itâs an important race. The biggest one maybe. And I want to share it with my family.â
She hesitated, biting her lip. He could see the worry in her eyes, the motherly instinct to keep their baby safe and away from the chaos of the paddock. But then he reached for her hand.
âWin or lose, none of it matters without you. You and Emilian are everything to me. And if I do win... I want you there to celebrate. I want the world to see what really matters.â
After a long pause, she sighed, her resolve softening. âFine. But only if you promise to keep us far away from the press circus until itâs over.â
He grinned, leaning over to kiss her. âDeal.â
The Las Vegas Grand Prix was a spectacle like no other. The bright lights, the roaring crowd, and the tension in the paddock made it a night to remember. Max felt his nerves hum as he stepped into the garage, but knowing she and Emilian were somewhere safe in the hospitality suite calmed him.
The race was brutal. Max fought tooth and nail, battling it out with Charles and Lewis in a chaotic, tire-shredding 50 laps. In the end, he crossed the line in fifth place.
For a moment, he thought it wasnât enough. But then Christianâs voice crackled over the radio.
âMax Verstappen, you are a four-time world champion!â
Relief and joy flooded through him, and he punched the air, his voice shaking with emotion as he shouted his thanks into the radio. The garage erupted in cheers, but Maxâs mind was already on her and Emilian.
As the celebrations began, he climbed out of the car, waving to the crowd before pulling off his helmet. He turned toward the pit lane and froze.
There she was, standing at the edge of the barriers, Emilian in her arms. They were both wearing ear defenders, her smile wide and proud. Emilianâs tiny shirt caught his eye, and his heart melted:
My daddy is a 4-time world champion.
He laughed, running over to them as the cameras swarmed. When he reached her, he didnât hesitate, pulling her into a deep kiss. The crowd roared, and the cameras clicked furiously, but he didnât care.
He looked down at his son, who blinked up at him with wide, curious eyes. Carefully, Max took him into his arms, holding him close.
âHey, little man,â he said softly, his voice trembling with emotion. âYour daddy did it.â
Emilian gurgled in response, and Maxâs grin widened.
For the first time, the world saw Max Verstappen not just as a champion, but as a father. The images of him holding his son, his fiancée beside him, spread like wildfire. The press clamoured for details, but Max ignored them, too lost in the moment to care.
âThis is your victory too,â he said to her, his voice quiet. âI couldnât have done any of this without you.â
She leaned her head against his shoulder, her smile radiant. âWeâre so proud of you.â
As the champagne sprayed and the cheers echoed around them, Max knew this was the pinnacle of his careerânot the trophy, not the title, but the family he held in his arms.
the end.

I love ur writing sm, like I would worship you if you wrote this request, basically, you are the 9th member of skz, yall are all dating, and today, they all had a concert. The first half of it went fine, but somewhere in the second half, you all heard gunshots, you reacting the fastest, saw them heading to (member of your choice) so you shove them out of the way while you take the bullet (chivalrous ikr). The members all immediately stop the concert despite u reassuring then you could finish (with blood everywhere) then the ending is just comfort and angst bc they didn't sallow u to do anything, and you got bored. Plsss take ur time if ur going to make this, I will literally cherish this with my heart if you make it

Summary: Request!
â©âË.ââŸââșââ§
It happened so fast.
One second, Y/N was standing next to Felix and Han, laughing and joking around with them, and the next, there was a blood-curdling scream that shattered the lighthearted atmosphere.
"Guys, duck!" Y/N screamed, her voice sharp and urgent.
She barely had time to process what was happening before instinct took over. In a split second, she shoved Felix and Han out of the way, her hands landing on their shoulders with enough force to knock them off balance. The world seemed to slow as they stumbled back, confusion still clouding their faces.
"Y/Nâwhatâ?" Felix started to say, but his words were cut off by the deafening sound of something heavy crashing against the floor.
The moment she pushed them away, Y/Nâs eyes darted to the source of the danger. She had been watching themâFelix, Han, and the rest of the groupâhaving fun, playing with the toys and gifts they had gotten from STAY. It was supposed to be a lighthearted day, a sign-meet with fans, some laughter, and silly moments. But something had felt off all day. The atmosphere felt thinner, like the air itself was stretched too tight, and Changbin had been out with a stomach bug, so the energy was lower than usual. They didnât want to do the event, but it had been scheduled. They had no choice.
Theyâd gathered so many toys and gifts from STAY that it seemed like they were almost swimming in them. But right now, they were just strolling on stage, talking casually to the fans in the crowd. Y/N had been teasing Chan all dayâplayfully, of course. Then she had moved on to teasing the members of the Racha subunitâFelix and Hanâjust like she always did.
"Y/Nnie, look," Felix giggled, suddenly putting a pair of bunny ears on her head.
Y/N laughed, shaking her head in amusement as she grabbed a pair of oversized sunglasses from one of the gifts. "I look ridiculous," she said, still smiling.
"Let's take a picture!" Han beamed, grabbing the selfie stick and clicking a few shots, each one more ridiculous than the last.
Y/N held up a tiny pony plushie in front of them, laughing at how tiny it was. "Look what STAY got me," she giggled, passing it to the two of them.
The pair squatted down, completely entranced by the toy, their faces lighting up with genuine curiosity. Y/N snapped a few pictures of them, capturing how adorable they looked. She smiled softly, feeling a deep warmth in her chest. These were the moments she treasuredâthe small, quiet seconds when everything felt perfect.
Her gaze shifted over to Hyunjin, who was laughing with his usual carefree energy. She raised an eyebrow, confused, before her eyes landed on Chan.
The sight that met her eyes made her stifle a laugh. Chan, their leader, was wearing a tiara. It was completely ridiculous.
"So silly," she thought, shaking her head with a grin. She opened her mouth to call out to the crowd.
"Stay, don't you think our leader is a little too old to be a princess?" she teased, her voice light and playful.
Before she could even finish her sentence, she heard Chan yell, "Hey!" into the microphone, and a few giggles escaped from the crowd.
STAY responded with loud, drawn-out "nooo's," their laughter ringing out. Y/N rolled her eyes playfully at them but kept her focus on Han and Felix, who were still deeply engrossed in the tiny pony toy.
But something didnât feel right. A strange sense of unease settled in her chest, making her skin crawl. She was on high alert now, her body rigid as her eyes scanned the surroundings. She couldn't shake the feeling that something was wrong.
And then it happened.
A sound.
It was faint at firstâa click, barely noticeable over the laughter and chatter around her. But it was enough to make Y/N freeze. The sound sent a jolt of adrenaline straight through her, and her military training kicked in. She had been through safety drills before debut, and she knew exactly what that sound was.
A gunshot.
Before she could react, a blur of motion caught her eye. A figureâclad in a large hoodie, with Felixâs SKZOO merch clearly visibleâstood up from the crowd. The personâs face was obscured, but their intent was clear. The girl was shaking, tears streaking down her face, but her hands were steady as she raised the weapon in their direction.
Her heart hammered in her chest. Y/N didnât have time to think. The world moved in slow motion as she lunged forward, adrenaline flooding her body.
"NO!" Y/N screamed, her hands pushing Han and Felix out of the way just as the girl pulled the trigger.
The loud bang of the gunshot reverberated in her ears as Y/N threw herself onto the ground, the sharp, metallic scent of fear thick in the air. Felix and Han hit the floor in a tangle of limbs, their faces contorted in confusion and terror. But Y/N barely noticed.
Her eyes were trained on the girl. The gun had been aimed at the boys, and Y/Nâs body had moved before her mind could even catch up.
Everything happened so fast. One second, they were all laughing and smiling, and the next, Y/N had just saved their lives.
But the danger wasn't over. The moment her body hit the ground, she heard the sound of people shouting, running, and chaos erupting all around her.
Security was swift, moving through the chaos like trained professionals, their hands outstretched to clear the crowd and usher the members away from danger. But in the chaos, Felix crawled toward her, his face twisted in panic. His hands grasped at her arm, pulling her closer as he let out a strangled yelp of distress.
"Y/N! No, no, no!" he cried, his voice breaking.
She could barely move, her body feeling heavy and unresponsive. The adrenaline rush was fading, and all that was left was pain. As security worked to move her out of harm's way, Y/Nâs side felt like it was on fire. It stung with every movement, sharp and unbearable. She forced her eyes open, her vision hazy, and thatâs when she saw it.
Blood.
It was seeping through the fabric of her crop top, dark and spreading quickly. Her breath hitched in her throat.
"Y/N?!" Hanâs voice was frantic, barely audible over the chaos, but she could hear the terror in his tone as he tried to reach her. His voice cracked. "Oh my God⊠Y/N!"
Through the blur of bodies and flashing lights, she saw Chan, Hyunjin, I.N, and Seungmin being pushed away, separated from the group. But even from a distance, Y/N could hear Chan's voiceâloud, desperate, shouting for them.
"Do something!" Felix screamed at the security guard who was already dialing 911, his voice thick with panic.
"Y/N? Can you hear me?" Han sobbed, his hands trembling as he tried to pull off her tight clothes to check the wound, his movements erratic in his panic. Felix had moved to her side, gently cradling her head in his hands, trying to keep her conscious.
"We need backup!" the security guard shouted, his voice tense as he spoke into his radio.
Y/N could barely register what was happening. Everything was moving too fast, and she felt too much, too much pressure, too much noise, too many people around her.
"Guys? Where are you?!" I.N shouted, pushing through the commotion, his voice filled with alarm as he searched frantically for his friends.
"Get Chan, I.N!" Felix yelled, his eyes wild with fear. "She got shot! Get him now!"
I.N froze for a second, stunned by the reality of the situation. His gaze swept over Y/Nâs body, the blood staining her clothes, and his eyes went wide in shock. "What the hell?!" he gasped, his voice shaking as he took a step back.
"Get Chan, now! Go!" Han shouted again, his voice hoarse from the panic that was threatening to consume him. He reached down, trying to stop the bleeding, but his hands shook too much to do anything useful. He was a mess, just as terrified as Felix.
"Ow..." Y/N gasped, the pain intensifying now that the adrenaline was wearing off. A sharp, searing ache shot through her abdomen, and she couldnât stop the scream that tore from her throat. It was raw, desperate, and filled with a pain she couldnât even understand.
Everyone was crowding around her, too many hands, too much noise, too much pressure. She couldnât breathe. She couldnât think. She wanted them all to stop.
"Felix? Han?" she gasped, her chest rising and falling in shallow, panicked breaths. She felt like she was suffocating. "Please... please, let me go." Her voice was weak, barely above a whisper. She couldnât stand itâeverything was too much. She wanted space. She wanted air.
"Baby, weâre right here," Felixâs voice was soft, but there was desperation in it. He was cradling her head, his fingers gentle against her skin. "Weâre not going anywhere. We're right here, okay?"
"Chan... Chan..." Y/N whimpered, her hands trembling as she reached out for anything, anything to grab onto. Her fingers found nothing but air. She could feel the pain growing, spreading through her body, and she knew she couldnât last much longer without him.
"Chan..." she repeated, her voice breaking as she squeezed her eyes shut, willing herself to hold on.
The paramedics were on her now, their hands moving quickly as they hooked her up to various machines, pushing IVs into her arms, trying to stabilize her. Y/N barely felt it. The sharp prick of the needles was nothing compared to the agony she felt in her abdomen.
"We need space!" one of the paramedics barked, his voice cold and professional, as the others worked to stabilize her. The security guards, looking frantic themselves, began pushing Felix and Han away to give the paramedics room to work.
"No!" Felix shouted, struggling against the security guardâs hold. His heart was hammering in his chest. "I need to be right here! Sheâs claustrophobicâdonât you see? Sheâll panic if you take us away!"
"Please, we need space to work!" the paramedic insisted, his voice hardening as he tried to maintain control of the situation.
But Felix wasnât backing down. He twisted in the guardâs grip, desperation clear on his face. "No! You donât understand! Sheâll freak out! She needs us! She needs me!"
"Where is she?! Where is she?!" Chanâs voice rang through the air, raw with panic as he shoved his way through the crowd. His eyes were bloodshot, his face streaked with tears, and his entire body trembled with rage and fear.
I.N had reached him, breathless from running, and before he could say anything, Chanâs eyes locked onto him, wild and frantic. "Where is she?!" he demanded again, his voice breaking.
"Sheâs over here! Sheâs over here!" I.N shouted, pointing through the crowd. "Theyâre working on her, Chan. Theyâre trying to save her."
The scene in front of him was like a nightmare. Chanâs heart stopped for a moment as he caught sight of Y/N, bloodied and pale, surrounded by paramedics, with Felix and Han still hovering anxiously at her side. His chest tightened, and for a moment, he couldnât breathe.
He had to get to her. He had too. He couldnât lose her.
With one final push, Chan broke through the crowd, his eyes wide, his breath ragged. "Y/N!" he cried, reaching for her.
His hands gripped hers with a desperation that didnât care about the blood soaking into his clothes. The warmth of her skin, so pale and lifeless, felt like the last connection he had to her.
"We need to transfer her now," the paramedic said, his voice steady but urgent. "Iâm sorry, sir. You can ride with us if youâd like."
Chan barely heard him. His focus was on Y/N, on her cold hand slipping from his as the paramedics gently lifted her onto the stretcher. His grip faltered, but he didnât want to let go. Please donât leave me, his mind screamed, but reality was moving too fast.
âY-yeah, Iâm coming,â he whispered, wiping his face with the back of his hand, trying to clear the tears, but it didnât matter. They kept coming. He took a shaky breath and stood up, his legs feeling like they might collapse beneath him. He had to move.
âI need Lee Know. Where is he?â Chan asked, his voice hoarse as he searched frantically for a familiar face.
One of the managers, still on the phone, glanced up from her conversation. âHis changing room. He doesnât know anythingâs going on right now,â she said quickly, cutting off the call. âGo get Lee Know now,â she ordered another staff member, who immediately ran off in search of the missing member.
Chan nodded, turning to go after Y/Nâs stretcher, but a shout stopped him in his tracks.
âHyung!â
His heart skipped a beat. He turned, finding Felix in I.Nâs arms, his face streaked with tears, his body shaking violently. Han, still in a state of panic, had managed to get through the crowd and was now crumpled into Chanâs arms, sobbing uncontrollably.
âThis is my fault, hyung! This is all my fault!â Han choked out between gasps for air, his voice thick with guilt. âShe wonât forgive me, she wonât forgive meâŠâ
Chanâs heart broke for him. He pulled Han closer, trying to soothe him, even though his own chest felt like it was being crushed. âHey⊠shh,â he cooed softly, brushing his hand through Hanâs hair. âStop. Itâs not your fault. You hear me? None of this is your fault. Donât think like that.â
Hanâs sobs only grew louder, and Chan, desperate to calm him, took off his sweater and wrapped it around Hanâs shoulders. He was only wearing a vest, and Chan could see how shaken and cold he was. âLetâs go to the hospital, yeah?â Chan said, his voice firm but gentle.
Han nodded slowly, wiping his face with a trembling hand. âYeah⊠yeah, hyung.â
Before they could move, another voice cut through the commotion, sharp and full of rage.
âHyung?! What the hell?!â
Chan turned to find Lee Know standing at the edge of the crowd, his face flushed with anger and confusion. His brow was furrowed, and his eyesâbloodshot from lack of sleep and stressâwere scanning the room in disbelief.
âWhy wasnât I told before? Where is she? What the hell happened?â Lee Know was seething, his voice low but furious, and Chan felt his stomach drop.
âSheâs with the paramedics,â Chan said quickly, trying to keep his voice steady despite the chaos. âI need you to take the kids and meet me at the hospital. Please.â
Lee Know barely seemed to hear him. His eyes were still darting around the room, searching for something, anything, that could make sense of the mess. âOkay, but if she dies, I swear to GodâŠâ His voice trembled with emotion, a dangerous edge creeping into his words. âIâll sue this company. I donât care about my image. If anything happens to herâŠâ
âLee Know, not now, pleaseâŠâ Chan interrupted, his voice pleading as he grabbed his phone from the assistant who had been trying to help him. He needed to leave. He needed to be with her. âJust take care of the kids. Get them to the hospital.â
Lee Know nodded sharply, his face tight with a mix of anger and worry. He didnât say anything more as he reached for Han, pulling him gently out of Chanâs arms. âI got you, Han. Letâs go.â
Chan didnât have time to process it all. He was already rushing through the crowd, trying to catch up with the paramedics. His mind was a blur, thoughts racing too fast to make sense of them. All that mattered was Y/N. He had to be with her.
As he finally caught up with the paramedics, his heart skipped again. He sat in the back as he watched them work. He could hear them talking to each other, medical jargon flying over his head, but he didnât care about any of it. His eyes were fixed on Y/Nâs pale form, her chest rising and falling with the aid of an oxygen mask. Her face was still, and the blood on her clothes haunted him, more than any words could.
"Y/NâŠ" he whispered, his voice cracking. "Please, stay with me. Please."
One of the paramedics glanced at him, then at Y/N. "Weâre almost there, sir. We need you to stay calm. Weâll do everything we can."
But Chan barely heard them. His grip on his phone tightened, his thumb brushing over the screen as he dialed Changbin, his mind only focused on one thing: whoever did this had to pay.

"That's not how you're supposed to do it."
You sighed, movements halting and your eyes closing in annoyance.
Turning to face the culprit of the comment, you reopen your eyes, ready to snark at the exact person you were expecting.
"Do you have to be the bane of my existence?"
He chucked at that, nodding at you to turn and face the mirror located behind you once more. It was foggy due to the inhuman amount of heavy breathing exchanged in the practice room, but you could still easily make yourself on it. And Jungkook too, of course.
Standing behind you, â with an offensive lack of distance between your bodies â he grabbed onto your arms from behind, helping you position yourself to perfection, even to the exact inch, of the move you were trying to perform. His eyes found yours on the mirror, giving you a short smile before beginning to guide you through the small transition you'd been struggling with.
"See? Like that," he said once finally letting go of you after walking you through it a few times. By the end, you had gotten it as perfectly as your choreographer had described to you a few hours ago.
"Thanks, Kook."
"Thought I was the bane of your existence?", he chuckled as he bent down to collect a water bottle, taking a sip before handing it to you.
You were usually more worried by boy germs than this, but Jungkook proved to be an exception through the past few years.
You swallowed your sip, "Yeah, but I still have manners."
"C'mon, we should head back to the dorms. You've been at this all day. You beat Jimin at hours logged into the practice room this week," it was meant lightheartedly, but it was true. You'd practically been living here for the past few days.
"Where are the guys?", you wondered out loud as you followed him out.
The dorms, as Kook had called them, were really just a small living space located within the building. There were talks of moving onto a larger building within the next couple of years, but for now you were content with your living arrangements. Despite all of you either owning property or having family outside of the company building, you and a few other members usually opted to stay there due to convenience. You and Jungkook were the main ones to do so.
"Well, we technically have the next few days off, so I'm pretty sure they went visit family while they can. We probably won't be back in Korea for a while after promotions start."
It was true. You were soon due to head to America to promote your newest comeback. This was the first time you'd be taking promotions out of Asia and into the west, which made all of you incredibly anxious. As the most fluent English speaker in the group, the task of being the group's representative should've fallen on you, but luckily Joon had decided he'd be taking the brunt of it for you.
Still, you were terrified to open yourselves up for a way bigger audience.
"You good?" Kook interrupted your thoughts.
"Yeah, Kook. Don't worry about it."
The two of you headed over to the elevators, pressing the button leading you to the floor where your rooms were located. It was likely no one else was in the building at this time â holy shit, was it really 3am? â meaning that you and Kook would likely get some well-deserved rest in the privacy of the dorms.
That was one of the few nice parts of belonging to what once was a very small company. You had no sibling groups as of yet, which kind of made you own the place (or at least that's how Taehyung would put it sometimes). Late at night, it was just you and your group mates with the occasional presence of staff. Though more commonly, it was just you and Kook opting to stay together into the depths of the night.
"Nervous about flying to the U.S?", he voiced when the metal doors closed in front of you, caging you in with your friend.
"Maybe. You're not?"
He shrugged, "It's just like any other performance. You should be the least nervous. You speak English. You already know what America's like."
"Me? I'm the only girl in the group. I'm gonna stand out like a sore thumb," you whined, earning a chuckle from him.
It was a rare situation, being a girl in a group full of men. Other co-ed groups existed within Kpop, but they usually held a better boy-to-girl ratio.
But this wasn't really the reason you were nervous.
Opening yourselves up to an entire new audience within a mere five years since debut was an entire new battle you'd have to face. Worst of all was that no other Kpop group had ever truly promoted in the west before now. You were given accolades as trailblazers, but at what cost?
"Hey," Jungkook called your attention again, gesturing you to follow him into the hallway that would lead you to your room, "C'mon, let's find something to take your mind off of this."
Leading you into his room rather than yours, he sat you on his couch as he went back out to peruse the kitchen of any food he could get for the two of you for an impromptu night indulging yourselves. You relaxed as you waited, appreciative of Jungkook immediately noticing your lack of ease and working towards getting you cooled down again.
He always did have a way of being in tune with your emotions that no one else did.
His room was spacious and tidier than the average for a man in his early 20's. It was common for you to spend time here rather than in your own room. You had always been one to wander in search of your bandmates, and Jungkook just so happened to be the most receptive to it of them all.
The click clank of bottles bumping into each other was your first indicator of his return, making you look up from the couch, unable to withhold a smile when you saw him balancing various bottles of soju in his arms while also attempting to carry a few packets of spicy ramen.
Getting up to help him, you aided him in setting down all his snacks on the coffee table, moving aside any remote and controller that was in the way. Your usual set up was established then, as it had countless times before. It consisted of you and Kook on his old couch (that he refused to replace from the old days in which you could barely afford any luxuries) with a variety of alcohol and snacks accompanying you through the night.
He took a seat on the floor while you remained on the couch. It was common for him. Something about being at optimal proximity to the food on the table.
"We've got two more nights left in Korea. What do you wanna do to spend the time? And no, practicing isn't allowed," he interrupted you before you could respond.
You huffed, shoulders slacking before going back to their usual posture, "Well, then I guess just this."
"Just this? My dorm and some soju?"
"Yep. We're going to be overwhelmed by people and schedules as soon as we leave Korea. Might as well enjoy the quiet alone time," you reasoned.
Jungkook hummed in pensiveness, "Does it really count as alone time if it's together?"
"I like my alone time better when I'm with you," was your response.
And you meant it too. The quiet sometimes became too quiet if Jungkook wasn't around. You'd known him since you were 15 and had been unable to imagine an existence without him since.
It was joked around by members and fans alike, that the two of you were attached to the hip. Some people would even call you a dynamic duo due to how often you were together with no distance between you. Of course, you were shipped and speculated as a couple, but that did nothing to deter your friendship.
Had you been a smarter person, you would've noticed Jungkook's bashful smile at your response. But you'd grown so used to his constant company that the idea of anything further than platonic did not compute in your brain. You weren't even sure if you were opposed to it; it was just nonexistent to you. It was as if he'd spawned as your friend one day and you never once stopped to question it.
"Well, let's enjoy it while we can," he finally responded as he handed you a now-opened bottle of soju.
Clanking bottles, you each took a small swing, settling in for a night that you'd likely not spend sleeping. You settled closer to Jungkook after that, letting yourself slide off the couch snd knocking shoulders with him as you took a seat on the softness of the rug under you.
"What do you wanna do to spend your last few nights of freedom?" you asked after some silence.
"I'll do whatever you want," his head fell to your shoulder, "We can just camp in here til they come get us for our flight on Monday."
You hummed in absentminded agreement, sipping at your drink a little more.
Jungkook turned to look at you then, slight bunny smile showing through.
"So, is tonight a blackout drunk night or do you wanna stay up and watch some movies?"
"Hmm. Maybe a mixture?", you suggested.
With a grin, he raised his bottle for yet another clink before taking a drink from it in tandem with you.

Error 404: (Self-Aware!AU, Sylus Edition) â Pt. 3
Summary: A LADS self-aware!AU featuring Sylus and a (now skeptical!) player. Thatâs it, thatâs the plot. A/N: Iâve already outlined the entire thingânow itâs just a matter of writing it, so donât worry! Even if some chapters take me longer to update, Iâm gonna finish this one way or another. Promise. *fingers crossed* Tags: player!reader x sylus, fem!reader x sylus, reader x lads, self-aware!au, strong language, reader thinks sheâs losing her marbles because of a certain someone
Pt. 1 - Pt. 2 - Pt. 3
âAlrightâokay, donât be stupid,â You chant to yourself as you pace restlessly from the kitchen area of your studio, to the coffee table where youâve set your phone lying facedown. âJust open the damn thing.âÂ
Youâve just arrived back at the condo a little past seven PM after a, frankly, productiveâif not slightly distractedâday of running errands. Youâre home, and you havenât even got to unpacking the two paper bags (and a box) worth of groceries that were all but thrown carelessly on the kitchen counter, and already, youâre back to stressing over all the weird shit that's been happening lately.
Throughout the afternoon, you tried your hardest to resist the urge to check your phone, especially whenever you see the screen light upâwhether it was in your hand or stashed away in your half-zipped fanny pack.
Itâs at the most random times too, but always when you act on your unfortunate tendency to monologue your thoughts out loud.Â
Sure, it could just be some random push app notifications. Text messages from the few people that hit you up on the weekendsâinvitations to hang out, maybe. A few newsletters you forgot to unsubscribe from, if youâre unlucky.Â
But you think the timingâs far too deliberate to be purely coincidental.Â
âDo I get a dozen eggs or just half? What do I even need a dozen for?â (Phone vibrates)
âOh, hey, Indomieâs on sale if you buy in bulk. How much for a box?â (Screen flashes. Twice.)
âWho the hell is holding up the line, damnâoh, itâs an old lady. Better hurry the fuck up, grandma.â (Screen flashes) â...Sorry! I didnât mean that.âÂ
âUghhh⊠my tummy hurtyâŠâ (Phone vibrates) âWhatââÂ
âEverythingâs perfectly normal. Just your average, sunny Saturday! You are an independent, capable adult⊠whoâs fucking losing it.â (Screen flashesâafter a minute interval)Â
Of course, you have an inkling as to whatâsâor whoâsâblowing your phone up; in fact, heâs never left your mind since this morning.
So presently, youâre in the middle of having a small existential crisis over what that means, for you and your sanity. No big deal.Â
You puff out your cheeks for a couple of seconds before letting out a deep breath. Donât be a pussy. Iâm sure thereâs a logical explanation to all of this. Youâreâyouâre not crazy.Â
Landing heavily down in front of the low table, you finally grab your phone, hand shaking with the teensiest amount of trepidation. Not giving yourself any more time to think and second-guess, you flip it over, switching it back to Ring mode as you swipe up to seeâ
âa barrage of notifications; one popping up after another.Â
Some of them are what youâve expected: plain, old push notifications from banking apps, others from varying socials. Thereâs one from your mom. A reminder to email her the flight tickets you still havenât gotten around to booking yet.Â
And. Six banner notifications from the game. From⊠fromâhim. Itâs something youâve already braced yourself for. It doesnât prepare you, however, for what they actually said.Â
A knot grows in your chest, spreading rapidly like slithering twine as your mind tries, and somewhat fails, to make sense of what your eyes are seeing.Â
Grab a dozen, sweetie. It wonât add much to the total cost, and you need that protein every morning. Cerealâs not gonna cut it.Â
You really ought to lessen your sodium intake, kitten. (and) Do NOT get the box. Stop.Â
Haha. A feisty one, arenât you?Â
Mmm, poor baby.
Iâ we can talk about this later when you get home.
Each notification contains a completely unique dialogue youâve never seen before. A play-by-play commentary specifically in response to youâ to your personal remarks from earlier, spoken out loudâ that there is absolutely no way anyone could still pass it off as simply being system-generated.Â
A faint ringing echoes in your ears as you slowly draw back, putting some distance between the onslaught of text and⊠you. You canât seem to tear your gaze away from the screen, though. Even if the back of your head bumps against the seat edge of the sofa behind you from how far youâve already leaned back.Â
Blinking in stunned silence, the only thing you could croak out is a strained âwhat the fuuuck.âÂ
... Ping!
Still mustering the courage to face me? Donât keep me in suspense, darling.Â
The sudden message jolts you back to reality. You suck in a deep breath.
⊠Despite everything, you canât help but find his nonchalant response to your gradual spiral into hystericsâbecause he knowsâa little amusing. Also rude. But mostly funny.Â
(Itâs also probably just your brainâs last-ditch effort to find some semblance of control, but whatever.)
At this point, you know that youâre merely delaying the inevitable. Swallowing, you press on one of Sylusâ messages and it immediately boots up the game.Â
Instead of soothing your nerves like it usually does, the orchestral background music from the loading screen puts you more on edge; your anxiety builds up to a crescendo, harmonious to the heralding of what you know will undoubtedly change the trajectory of your life.Â
Dramatic, but true.Â
48%... 82%... 98%...
Thereâs a hollow drop in your stomach when the screenâfinallyâreveals the familiar sight of the cafĂ©. The golden ambient light enters your field of vision for a split second before your eyes flit reflexively to the man standing in the middle of the screen, whose presence commandeered your full attention.
Heâs wearing his motorcycle jacketâthe black one with the red and white thorn(?) accents, paired along the pair of leather pants with the iconic double zipper. Aside from the black zircon studs, heâs not wearing anything out of the ordinary. Nothing is looking out of the ordinary, actually.Â
Holding your breath, you wait for the other shoe to drop.Â
âAre you waiting for me to say hello? Thenââ Sylus muses with an amused lilt to his voice, sauntering closer to flick âmyâ forehead. Thereâs a beat before he continues: âThatâs my way of saying hello.âÂ
⊠Huh?Â
Thatâsâthis isnât how itâs supposed to go. You⊠you donât know what you were expecting, but this wasnât it.
The man in front of you doesnât look any different from how he usually does; the way that his⊠character animation (Should you call it that? It doesnât seem right, given the circumstance, but you donât know how best to describe anything anymore) flows is soâ-so infuriatingly⊠normal. As if itâs just like any other day that youâve logged in the game.Â
Where did the sentience go? Why is he reciting lines heâs programmed to say? None of it adds up.
Your mouth tries to form words, but nothing comes out. With wide eyes, you helplessly gape at him. Speechless. For a moment, you feel like youâve actually gone mad.Â
A small âwhatâs happening?â slips past your lips. Your eyes dart across his face, trying to analyze every microexpression, any hint of sentience on himâin his eyes, in his movements.Â
You find none.Â
Mechanically, you exit the game.
âWhat the actual fuck?â You whisper-shout at nothing in particular, and maybe to the biggest cause of your current disconcertion; one who you thought⊠Who you were sure wasâ
-
-
Fuck it. Itâs time to put your detective skills to work.

READ VERSTAPPEN!YN HERE
The neon lights of Las Vegas blurred through as you rushed through the paddock, your heart torn between two directions. Behind you, the thunderous celebration at Red Bull's garage continued â your brother Max had just sealed his fourth world championship. Any other day, you'd be right there, spraying champagne and screaming until your voice gave out.
But right now, all you could think about was Charles.
You found him in the Ferrari cooldown room, still in his race suit, head in his hands. He looked up when you entered, those green eyes stormy with frustration.
"Mon coeur," he whispered, and despite his evident pain, his lips curved into a small smile at the sight of you. "You're here."
You crossed the room quickly, wrapping your arms around him. He buried his face in your neck, breathing deeply. "Of course I'm here. Always."
"I had it," he mumbled against your skin. "I had the pace, the position... everything. Then they called me in at the worst possible momentâ" His voice cracked slightly.
You ran your fingers through his hair soothingly. "I know, baby. I watched the whole thing."
Charles pulled back slightly, cupping your face with both hands. "You should be celebrating with Max, though. It's his championship. I don't want to take you away from that."
"You're not taking me anywhere," you said firmly, pressing your forehead to his. "I choose to be here."
He kissed you softly, gratefully. "Je t'aime. What did I do to deserve you?"
"Existed," you smiled against his lips. "Come on, let's get you out of here."
As you were leaving the cooldown room, hand in hand with Charles, you nearly collided with Max in the corridor. Your brother was still in his race suit, championship cap askew, smelling of champagne and victory.
"YN?" His voice was smaller than usual. "Where were you? Everyone was asking... we were all celebrating and you just disappeared."
Guilt twisted in your stomach. "Max, I'm so sorry, Iâ"
"She was with me," Charles said quietly, squeezing your hand.
Max's face fell slightly, though he tried to hide it. "Oh." He looked between you both, jaw working like he was trying to find the right words. "I thought... it's the championship, YN. Our fourth championship."
"I know," you said, stepping forward to hug him tightly. "And I'm so, so proud of you. You were incredible out there. But Charles needed me."
Max returned the hug, but you could feel the tension in his shoulders. When he pulled back, his expression was complicated â hurt mixed with resignation.
"Sure, whatever. Stay with your boyfriend." He shook his head, jaw clenched. "It's fine. Not like it's my fourth world championship or anything."
The sarcasm in his voice cut deep. Before you could respond, he turned on his heel and walked away, leaving you and Charles standing in the corridor.
The next morning, you found Max in the hotel gym, pounding away at a treadmill despite probably being hungover from the celebrations. You knew your brother well enough to recognize when he was working out his frustrations physically.
"Max," you called out softly.
He didn't look at you, just kept running. "Shouldn't you be with Charles?"
"Can we talk? Please?"
He jabbed at the treadmill controls, slowing to a stop. When he finally turned to face you, his expression was guarded. "About what? About how you ditched your own brother's championship celebration to comfort your boyfriend? Because he finished P4?" He grabbed his towel, wiping his face roughly. "Real nice, sister."
"That's not fair and you know it."
"Kelly already gave me the whole speech last night, you know," he said, "Something about 'understanding love' and 'being supportive' and how she'd do the same for me."
"And?"
"And I told her she's supposed to be on my side," he said, but there was less heat in his voice than before. "She just laughed at me."
You sat down on a nearby bench, and after a moment, he joined you. "I'm still mad," he admitted. "And it's still weird as hell that my sister is dating Charles bloody Leclerc of all people."
"Could be worse," you tried. "Could've been Lewis."
"Don't even joke about that," he groaned, but you caught the tiny smile he tried to hide. His face turned serious again. "Kelly made some good points though. About how she'd choose to be with me if I was struggling after a race, even if it meant missing something important. Still doesn't mean I like it."
"I really am sorry about disappearing like that."
"I wanted my sister there," Max's voice cracked slightly. "You've been there for every important moment in my career. Every single one. Until yesterday. It's like ever since you started dating him, I'm losing my little sister bit by bit."
"You're not losing me, Max. You're my brother, nothing will ever change that. But Charles...I love him."
Max was quiet for a long moment. "You really love him that much? It's that serious?"
"Yeah," you whispered. "It is."
He sighed deeply, running a hand through his hair. "I still don't like it. And I'm still mad about yesterday." He paused, then added grudgingly, "But I guess I need to get used to sharing you. Just... don't disappear on me like that again, okay? I had to listen to Helmut asking if you were sick or something. Do you know how awkward it was explaining that my sister was too busy consoling a Ferrari driver to celebrate with us?"
"Did you actually tell him that?"
"No, I told him you had a headache. You're welcome, by the way." He paused. "But seriously, YN. I get that you love him or whateverâ" he made a face at the words, "âbut you're still my sister."
"And you're still my annoying big brother," you leaned against his shoulder. "So... fourth championship, huh? Getting a bit boring now, isn't it?"
"Never," he grinned, then added more seriously, "Would've been better with you there though."
"I'll make it up to you. Plus, there's still family dinner tonight."
"Yeah, about that..." Max's expression turned mischievous. "I might have told Mom to make that really spicy Indonesian dish Charles couldn't handle last time."
"Max!"
"What? If he's going to be family, he needs to build up his tolerance," he said innocently. "Besides, it's payback for making me miss my sister at my championship celebration."
"You're impossible."
"Yeah, but I'm a four-time world champion impossible brother," he smirked, pulling you into a headlock like when you were kids. "And don't you forget it."

The next few days blurred together as the courtroom became a battleground. The air was thick with tension, the walls seemingly closing in around you as each new revelation about Ward Cameron was brought to light. The stakes were higher than they had ever been before. The pressure to win, to protect Willa, pressed down on you like an invisible weight, and the only thing that kept you grounded was the unwavering support from Rafe by your side.
Each morning you walked into the courthouse, the same grim faces of the Cameron family greeted you. Ward was there, his presence looming over the proceedings like a dark cloud. His smugness hadn't faltered, and even though he was under intense scrutiny, he still acted like he was above it all. He never once looked at you or Rafe directlyâonly ever speaking to his lawyers in low, controlled tones, as though his guilt was something he could keep hidden.
But it wouldnât last.
Today, you were ready. You had no intention of backing down. You had the truth on your side, and that was something Ward could never escape.
âŻâŻâŻâŻâŻâŻâŻâŻâŻâŻ
The courtroom was packed as usual, and you sat in your chair, feeling the weight of all eyes on you. Rafe, though his jaw was clenched and his eyes narrowed with focus, sat beside you. The final moments of this battle were drawing near, and today was the day you hoped would shift everything in your favor.
Wardâs lawyer had spent the last few hours trying to discredit the evidence youâd found in the atticâclaiming it was old, irrelevant, that it had nothing to do with Willaâs future. But the judge had seen through those arguments, and as you waited for the next moment to arrive, your heart beat steadily in your chest.
Rafeâs lawyer stood, clearing his throat as he prepared to present the final piece of evidence. A stack of photographs, medical reports, and those damning letters Sarah had written in secret. Rafe held your hand under the table, a gesture so small yet filled with so much meaning. You squeezed his hand in return, a silent promise to him that you would do your part.
âYour Honor,â Rafeâs lawyer began, âweâve gathered new evidence that clearly shows the abusive history of Mr. Ward Cameron. This evidence is not just hearsayâit is documented, it is real, and it is a direct reflection of the environment in which Rafe and his sister, Sarah, were forced to grow up. These letters, these photos, they paint a portrait of emotional and physical abuse, a history that has haunted the Cameron family for years.â
The lawyer presented each piece, and the courtroom fell into a tense silence. You could feel Wardâs gaze burning into you, but you refused to look back. This was it. You were done being intimidated.
When the lawyer finished, the judge nodded, his expression unreadable, but there was a flicker of something in his eyesâa flicker of doubt now cast on Wardâs credibility.
And then, it was your turn.
You stood up from your seat, your legs shaking but your resolve as solid as ever. You walked to the stand, the weight of the moment sinking in. You could feel the tension rising, the murmurs in the courtroom fading as all eyes turned to you. You took a deep breath, gathering your thoughts, and then you spoke.
âYour Honor, I know youâve heard a lot of things about Rafe Cameron in this courtroom,â you began, your voice steady despite the emotions swirling inside. âI know what people say about him. That heâs angry, that heâs dangerous, that heâs just another spoiled rich kid who doesnât care about anyone but himself. But thatâs not who he is. And thatâs not the person heâs been to Willa.â
Your eyes searched for Rafe in the crowd, and when you found him, there was a look in his eyes that you couldnât quite placeâa mixture of vulnerability and strength that you hadnât seen before.
âIâve known Rafe for a long time. And yes, he has a pastâone thatâs been shaped by a father who made him believe that love was something earned, not something given. But thatâs not the Rafe Iâve seen over the past few months. The man who sits here today is a man who has stepped up for his niece, a man who, despite his own hurt, has taken responsibility for her, for them. And Iâve seen him with Willa. Iâve seen how he cares for her.â
You turned slightly to look at Rafe again, your heart swelling with something you couldnât quite put into words. You had seen him grow into a man who loved fiercely and without hesitation. A man who would never, ever let someone like Ward tear apart what he was trying to build.
âIâve seen him comfort her when sheâs scared. Iâve seen him stay up all night with her when sheâs sick. Iâve seen him put aside his own pain to make sure sheâs okay. Heâs been there for her in ways that no one ever was for him. Heâs been a better father figure than Ward Cameron could ever be.â
Tears pricked at the corners of your eyes, but you forced them back. You werenât going to break nowânot in front of the court, not when you were so close.
âYou want to know the truth?â you continued, your voice rising with emotion. âThe truth is, Rafe Cameron is one of the most caring people I know. And he has done everything in his power to make sure that Willa grows up with love, safety, and stability. He is not like his father. And he is not the man they say he is.â
You paused, your chest tightening, but you pushed forward. âIâm not just here to testify for Rafe. Iâm here to testify for Willa. She deserves a childhood full of love and protection. And I promise you, Your Honor, that is what Rafe will give her. Iâll give her too. We will do this together.â
The courtroom was silent when you finished, the weight of your words hanging in the air. You could hear the sharp intake of breath from those who had been skeptical of your testimony. Even Ward seemed taken aback, his smug expression faltering just for a moment.
You sat back down, trying to steady your breath, your hands trembling. You didnât know what was going to happen next, but for the first time in a long time, you felt hope.
âŻâŻâŻâŻâŻâŻâŻâŻâŻâŻ
After a long deliberation, the judge returned to the bench. You could feel Rafeâs tension beside you, his hand gripping yours as he waited for the decision.
The room held its breath as the judge spoke, his voice calm but firm. âAfter reviewing all the evidence, including the newly presented documentation of Mr. Ward Cameronâs abusive behavior and the heartfelt testimony regarding the current guardianship situation, this court finds that the best interest of Willa Routledge lies with her current guardiansâRafe and [Y/N]. The court hereby grants full custody to the guardians of the child, effective immediately.â
For a moment, you couldnât process what you had just heard. And then it hit you, crashing through you like a wave. You had won.
Rafe, who had been so stoic, looked at you in disbelief. His grip on your hand tightened, and for a moment, all the pain, all the struggle, all the long nights of worry faded into the background. You had done it. Willa was safe.
Tears welled up in your eyes as you looked at Rafe. You had fought togetherâand now, for the first time since Sarah and John B. had passed, you both had a reason to believe in the future again.
Rafe squeezed your hand, his voice thick with emotion. âWe did it. We really did it.â
And as the gavel came down, sealing the decision, you finally allowed yourself to breathe again.
âŻâŻâŻâŻâŻâŻâŻâŻâŻâŻ
The courtroom was still buzzing with the aftermath of the judgeâs ruling. The gavel had just come down, the words of victory still echoing in your ears. Willa was finally safe, and you had wonâtogether. You and Rafe exchanged a look, one that held a mix of disbelief and relief. There were no more battles to fight. The war was over, and you had come out on top.
But just as you thought you could breathe again, the door to the courtroom swung open with a heavy slam. Ward Cameron.
His face was a mask of rage, his eyes burning with fury as he stormed toward the front. The room fell silent, the tension thickening again as people shifted uncomfortably in their seats. You knew this wasnât over. Ward wasnât the type to let go of a loss easily.
âYou think youâve won?â Ward spat, his voice dripping with venom. His eyes locked on Rafe, and for a moment, it was like the room itself shrank. His presence alone seemed to warp the air around you, making the world feel smaller. âThis isnât over, boy. Iâll make sure you never get to raise that child. You donât deserve her. None of you do.â
Rafe stood up immediately, his jaw tightening, fists clenched at his sides. âYouâre the last person who gets to tell me what I deserve,â Rafe growled, his voice low but laced with fury. The anger between them had been simmering for years, but now it was a live wire, crackling between them.
You could feel Rafeâs anger radiating beside you, but you stood quickly, placing a hand on his arm. âRafe, itâs done. The decision is made. Youâre not going to change it by causing a scene.â
Ward sneered at you, his eyes narrowing in disdain. âYou think this is over, huh? You think just because you got some courtroom victory, Iâm going to back off? Youâre both fools. Iâll fight you every step of the way.â
Before you could respond, Ward turned his eyes back to Rafe. âYouâre weak. Just like your mother. Just like Sarah. Always the disappointment.â His words were sharp, like daggers aimed right at Rafeâs chest, trying to cut deep.
You could see the tension in Rafeâs posture, his muscles tensing, but before he could say anything, Ward took a step forward, getting dangerously close.
Thatâs when security stepped in.
âMr. Cameron, thatâs enough,â one of the officers said sternly, moving toward him with authority. âYou need to leave now.â
Ward didnât seem to care. He stepped closer, jabbing a finger toward Rafe. âIâm not finished with you. Not by a long shot.â His voice was shaking with rage.
But before he could take another step, two security guards moved in, grabbing his arms and pulling him back. Ward tried to shove them off, but they held firm, dragging him away from the front of the courtroom.
âYouâll regret this, Rafe!â Ward yelled, his voice echoing through the room as he was escorted out. âIâll make sure of it!â
The door slammed shut behind him, and the room was filled with an uncomfortable silence. But slowly, the tension began to ebb. People exchanged glances, whispered amongst themselves. There was no question nowâWard Cameron had lost. But the question remained: would he ever truly accept it?
Rafe stood there, his body rigid with anger, his fists still clenched. You could see the way his hands shook, the way his jaw clenched tighter with each breath. But he didnât say a word. Not yet. Instead, he took a deep breath, his shoulders sagging slightly as he turned to face you.
You walked over to him, your heart heavy with everything that had just happened. His face was pale, his eyes distant. You reached out, touching his arm gently, but he didnât pull away.
âAre you okay?â you asked quietly, knowing full well that the words didnât do justice to the storm that was brewing inside him.
Rafe exhaled slowly, a long, tortured sound. âYeah⊠I will be.â He paused, then added in a quieter voice, âI just never thought it would be this hard. To finally win⊠and still have him out there.â
You nodded, understanding all too well. âIt wonât be easy. But weâve got each other. And weâve got Willa. Thatâs all that matters.â
Rafe looked down at the floor for a long moment, his hand running through his hair. âI hate that he still has this hold on me, on all of us,â he murmured. âI hate that even after everything, he can just show up and make me feel like Iâm still that kid. Like Iâm still the one who doesnât deserve anything.â
You stepped closer, placing a hand on his shoulder. âHe doesnât control you anymore. He never will again. Youâre not that kid anymore, Rafe. And youâve earned the right to protect Willa. You are her family.â
Rafe didnât look up immediately, but the words seemed to sink in. His breath was steadier now, his expression softer. Finally, he met your gaze, his eyes filled with a mixture of exhaustion and something deeperâsomething you had seen in him all along, but only now, in this moment, could you truly recognize.
âWeâll keep fighting for her,â he said, his voice firm, though still weary. âNo matter what it takes.â
You nodded, knowing that together, you would face whatever came next. The fight wasnât over. Ward might not have given up, but neither had youâor Rafe.
You turned to the door, where Willaâs social worker was waiting for you, her smile soft and reassuring. It was done. Willa was safe. And despite the lingering presence of Ward, despite the obstacles still ahead, for the first time in a long time, you felt like maybeâjust maybeâyou could finally begin to heal.
And together, you would build the family that Sarah and John B. had wanted for her all along.

treasure box | percy jackson
አpercy jackson x reader አwarnings: none! አwc: 757
âHurry, get into my room before my mom sees you and starts talking your ear off!â She giggled as Percy held her hand, gently pulling her after him.
They stepped into his room, and she couldnât help but smile as her gaze landed on the familiar blue walls, the car posters, and the soft gray comforter she hadnât seen in what felt like ages.
If she loved anything more than her own house, it was being at his place.Â
They sank to the floor, their backs leaning against the bed. Percy instinctively moved as close to her as he could; those two weeks sheâd been away on vacation had been agonizing for him.
âPlease, tell me everything. What are the beaches like?â
They started chatting, with her describing her trip and him listening carefully, asking a question now and then to make sure she kept talking. He had to admit, he had missed hearing her speak more than he cared to say.
At some point, when Percy was in the kitchen getting them some drinks, she remembered the little something sheâd brought for her boyfriend. She hurried to her backpack and dug out the blue seashell sheâd picked up.
It was lovely, with different tones of his favorite color and tiny white specks that sparkled. Definitely pretty. She stared at it for a while, suddenly realizing how silly the gift seemed.
Come on, he could probably dive to the depths of the sea and collect a whole bunch of them.Â
âOh, whatâs that?â Suddenly, the boy entered the room, setting the glasses down on the bedside table and moving behind her. He rested his jaw softly against her shoulder and peeked at what she was holding.
âOh, itâs nothing.â She tried to tuck it away again, but he covered her hands with his, stopping her. She sighed, a little flustered. âItâs a gift. Itâs kind of dumb, really⊠I donât know, I saw it and thought of you-â
âItâs the prettiest seashell Iâve ever seen, love.â He interrupted her, and though she didnât turn, she felt Percyâs smile against her neck, followed by the lightest kiss pressed there. âI love it!â
He held the gift, studying it carefully under the loving gaze of his girlfriend, who had turned to look at him.
Without a word, he made his way to the desk, opened a drawer, and pulled out a white wood box. She moved closer, her gaze following every movement as he used a small key from the drawer to unlock it.Â
âWhat do you have there?â She asked, her voice filled with intrigue. Percy turned to face her, lowered himself onto the bed, and gently patted the space next to him, encouraging her to sit by his side.
âLook,â he said once she was beside him. âthis is like my little collection of you. Gifts, things you leave behind, things that remind me of you⊠See this? Itâs the bracelet you made for me a few months ago! And this earring? You left it here when you lost the other one âI held onto it, just in case you ever found its match.âÂ
He carefully showed her each item inside: photographs from the early days of their relationship, ticket stubs from every date, and even the smallest gifts she had given him. He had kept everything, every little detail they had shared since they met.
But what stunned her most wasnât the collection itself, but the way he remembered each detail; each memory, each moment, and even the feelings those tokens had stirred in him.
She stood on the brink of tears when he finally finished showing her everything.
âThis is so beautiful, I never expected anyone to do something like this for me.â She said, watching him as he slid the seashell back into the box and set it back in its place.
âWhy wouldn't I do that?â He crouched in front of her, holding both of her hands in his and caressing them tenderly.
He truly couldnât understand it; this girl deserved the world, and anything she offered should be protected and cared for like a little piece of herself she was giving him.
âI love you, and I love everything that comes with you.â He finished, giving her hands a kiss. "Every thing, moment, and detail I share with you is a treasure -I need to keep it somewhere, don't I?"
She smiled, leaning in and wrapping her arms around him tightly. Her eyes closed as she held into the moment, murmuring a small 'i love you' in his skin. As response, he held her closer, leaving kisses in her temple.
She had always thought these kinds of things only happened in fairy tales, that guys like that didnât really exist.
So glad Percy wasnât just any guy.
everyone has, like, a memory box, right? RIGHT? ok but do i want to be in love or just prove that i can be loved?

For Me?
Vi x Piltover! Reader
Vi deserves the world and a partner that cares about her. Being from Zaun comes with its insecurities when being with someone from Piltover. Luckily, you know exactly how to counter them.
A/N: You guys wont have to worry about that much angst from me for a while, I need to cope from act 3 by giving Vi the best life possible and all the fluff imaginable because oh my god??
There were times when youâd think back to when and how you and your girlfriend met for the first time. Such a chance of it happening was very slim given you two belonged to two different cities, you Piltover, her Zaun. You never thought the girl who rammed into you after fleeing from an explosion from an unauthorized lab would one day come back into your life.Â
The story of your reunion however was quite the convoluted one. Once again, a meeting set by nothing but pure fate and chance.Â
You werenât supposed to be at Zaun at the time. In fact, you werenât supposed to be in Zaun at all. You went on your own, against your family's wishes, for the sake of immersing yourself in a culture that is not your own. You were raised to believe that the people of the undercity were monsters, the filth under Piltover's feet, nothing more than animals. It never felt right to you, there had to be more to it. After all, they were people too.
So, you went to see for yourself how awful these âanimalsâ really were.Â
You knew better than to walk in expecting everything to be rainbows and unicorns, but you refused to let go of your optimism as you traveled around the labyrinth like maze of streets and alleyways.Â
It wasnât until the smell of a peculiar type of food filled your senses.Â
You didnât know what it was, it was very different from anything you had ever tried before, so you decided to check it out. Â
Once there, you were greeted by a fairly jolly fish-like man with a large smile. He laughed heartily, gesturing for you to take a seat and gave you a list of things to choose from. There were so many options, you had no idea where to start, and it wasnât until you heard someone else set directly beside you did you finally have an idea.Â
You looked to your left and were quickly met with a head of bright pink hair. Quite a unique shade which you couldâve sworn youâd seen before, but you brushed the thought off. There were probably plenty of people with the same hair color, besides if thereâs one thing you knew not to do in Zaun, it was to stare.Â
You heard one of them, a woman, order something specific off of the fish manâs list, whom she referred to as Jericho. He happily took her order before turning to her friend who denied wanting anything, and then turning back to you.Â
âIâll have the same.â You said with a polite smile. Jericho nodded before turning around and getting right to work. As you waited, you couldnât help but sneak a glance at the girl next to you once again, there was something familiar about her despite her back being turned to you for the most part.Â
That was until her friend noticed you staring and began to pull her hood over her eyes which grabbed the pink haired girl's attention. She quickly turned around to face you with an angered look on her face, clearly ready to fight if need be.
âCan I help y-â She began, but before she could finish it finally clicked with you.Â
âYouâre the girl.â You whispered, having not realized that maybe saying that to a girl who looked, for lack of a better phrase, like she could rock your shit, probably was not a good idea.
âIâm sorry?â She asked, clearly confused, but still clearly not happy about your interruption.
âThat girl, from the explosion, that was you.âÂ
Her reaction to your realization was less than friendly, and you couldnât blame her. You hadnât known at the time but she had just gotten out of jail for that same crime. She didnât know who you were, she didnât know what you wanted, and she didnât want to involve herself with more pilties than she needed.Â
And yet despite everything, here she was, now living with you on her days when she wasnât in Zaun. You had quite the rocky start in the beginning but you became useful to her quest for her sister, and the more time you spent with her, the closer you two got. At first she was a bit standoffish, not believing someone from topside was capable of showing so much empathy, if any. Yet somehow you proved her wrong. You chipped away at that stone wall she built around her heart all those years away in prison and became one of the few things she coveted most.Â
You two didnât live together all the time, but your house was always open to her as you had now managed to move away from your parents. You knew Vi could never stay topside for too long, and youâd never ask her to do such. So there were a few days here and there where she would stay with you, then go back to the undercity to continue to help out, then come back up with you.
Now today was the day for Vi to come back, so you decided to surprise her to the best of your ability with the dish she got from Jericho the day you two met once again. It was quite a feat that required you to go to the undercity a fair amount of times to visit Jericho and ask for help. Luckily the sweet man was more than happy to let you in on a few of his trade secrets for the sake of a thoughtful gift.Â
You werenât the biggest fan of this type of food, youâve tried it on more than one occasion, but it very clearly wasnât for you.Â
But it was what Vi liked so that was enough.Â
As you continued to cook, you heard your door open, without even needing to look you knew it was your partner walking through the door.
âWelcome back.â You greeted warmly.Â
Just then, You felt two hands wriggle around your waist before the weight of her head rested on your shoulder. She tilted her head slightly, her face now moving towards your neck, enough for you to feel the light feeling of her breath wafting over your neck.Â
You ignored the feeling to the best of your ability but you couldnât ignore the small smile that made its way to your face, this of course didnât go unnoticed by Vi as she mumbled against your neck,Â
âWhat are you making?â She asked, pressing her body a bit more into yours. She had a tendency to be clingy after being away for long periods of time, which you didnât mind.Â
âSomething new. Just got the recipe, I think youâll like it.â You said with a smile, which earned a short chuckle from your girlfriend who turned to begin peppering light kisses against your neck.
âIf itâs made by you Sunshine, of course I will.â She said sweetly, despite the fact she was trying to âdiscreetlyâ distract you. It wasnât actually very discreet but she thought it was and you werenât going to correct her.
âIt smells familiar.â She said quietly after pausing for a moment to look back over your shoulder.
âMeans Iâm doing something right then.â You said happily, glad that it was going well. Her confirmation that she at the very least was beginning to recognize it was enough to motivate you to continue. However despite your motivation it was clear your girlfriend still had other plans in mind.Â
Her hands slowly began to move their way up from your waist, pulling you impossibly closer as her face remained by your neck.Â
âCan I at least finish the food first?â You asked with a laugh as your left hand went up to lightly brush against Viâs face, acknowledging what she was trying to do.Â
She once again mumbled quietly against you before finally pulling away.Â
âFine.â She said with an overly dramatic sigh before continuing,Â
âYouâre no fun.â She teased as her hands slowly, reluctantly, left your sides as she moved to the counter next to the stove you were using to cook. She leaned the back of her waist against it, her arms crossed in front of her chest, as she looked at you with a look you could only describe as a lighthearted pout.
âSave that for later you just got back. You have to eat first.â You said in a somewhat stern manner, not looking away from the food cooking in front of you.Â
âWho says I canât have a bit of dessert first?âÂ
âVi!â You exclaimed as you walked her softly with a cloth that you had placed by the stove. She laughed, a full genuine laugh, which she felt like she could only do near you. You were the only one to really bring it out of her at this point.Â
âJust⊠go sit down, the food is almost done.â You instructed, turning back to the food as she chuckled once again before walking back towards you. Her hand made its way back to your waist once again as she leaned towards your ear,
âCanât wait.â She whispered cheekily before giving you a quick kiss on the cheek and walking towards the dining room.Â
You, being from a family who had lived in Piltover for quite some time, were able to afford a house with multiple furnished rooms with ease. It always threw Vi off just the slightest bit, the difference in what the two of you grew up with. It got to her more than sheâd like to admit. A few times she believed herself to be holding you back, you came from a life of glittering buildings, and she came from nothing but metal scraps.Â
You were so different and yet you always managed to remind her that it didnât matter. She loved you for you and you loved her for her, wherever you came from had no effect on that.
Vi sat down in one of the few chairs in your dining room, looking around at the paintings that littered the walls, her previous thoughts remaining on her mind before she was interrupted by a plate of food entering her view and landing in front of her.
âTada!â You exclaimed into the silent room, the only other sound being that of the plate lightly hitting the table. Vi sat in silence for a moment as she looked down at the food before her, it took her a moment before she recognized it.
âWait. Did you-â She began to ask.
âFind the recipe to your favorite dish from your favorite food stand? Maybe.â You responded with a proud smile as you sat down in the chair next to her, eager to have her try it.Â
âHow did you get the stuff for it?â
âWell, I visited a friend.â You said with a shrug. Vi looked towards you, her eyes wide with shock. As each moment passed she realized just how much effort went into this one dish.
âYou hate this kind of stuff, why would you-â
âCause I know you like it and I wanted to make it for you.â You said simply as you placed your hand atop hers.
Suddenly Vi couldnât think of a response. Her sudden silence worried you almost, was she mad? Was she upset at you?Â
You then looked at her eyes and watched as they softened, the powder blue irises glistened as water lightly began to form in them.
âHoly shit.â She said quietly, entirely taken aback as she sat back in her chair. For someone with such a tough exterior you could see the walls slightly begin to crack as she looked down at the food before her. It meant more than the world to her that you had put so much effort into something she liked, for her, and for no other reason.Â
Just because you cared.
It had been a long time since Vi had been truly reminded she was loved. Just having such a simple yet, such a powerful reminder in the middle of nowhere by the one person she truly loved was almost disorienting. You went out of your way to get ingredients you couldn't get easily in Piltover, a recipe you had to go to a specific stand for, her favorite stand no less, and then put it all together?
âVi?â You asked quietly, your other hand going up the cup to her face so she would look at you a bit more as you looked at her with a bit of concern. You didnât expect such an emotional reaction from your gesture that you were worried you had done something wrong.
âAre you o-â
Before you could finish your question, Vi had turned to you quickly and engulfed you in a hug. This took you completely by surprise. In the time that you and Vi had been together, more often than not when it came to specifically hugging, you were the one to initiate. She just never seemed like the hugging type unless it was an occasion where she truly meant it.
And in this case, she did.Â
âThank you, Sunshine.â She said quietly as she squeezed just a bit tighter. Your hands rested against her back as you smiled, feeling as if you had done a job well done even without her trying her dish. You knew Vi had been through a lot over the years and while you didnât know the full extent of everything just yet, you knew you could at least try to offer her some sort of comfort. So thatâs what you strived for and it seems like that's what you succeeded to do.Â
Once she pulled back from the hug, you reached up to wipe her tears, the smile still present on your face as you spoke.Â
âWell, are you gonna try it?â You asked, to which she smiled and let out a slight chuckle. She then eagerly turned back around towards her plate and dug in as she usually did in the undercity. She knew you didnât care about the messy nature that often came with Zaun cuisine, even if it wasnât what you were raised on, it meant a lot to her that you at least tried it out. With one taste she immediately released a sound of pure bliss and dove back in for more.
You laughed, knowing that was Viâs way of saying you had done a perfect job, even if she didnât pause from her eating to just tell you so herself.Â

Escaping You.
Short summary: After spending incredibly tedious days alone in the cabin, they finally came back for another round. Though again, they disappeared in a hurry. Little did they know they left behind just what you neededâŠ
Warnings: 18+ only! threesome, oral m!receiving, unprotected p in v, slight degradation
A/N: so sorry this took so long but every time I opened the document I questioned my sanity
wordcount: 2,2k
Read part 1 before!
Itâs been three days since they had left you behind in the cabin.
You paced around the room, panicking. After trying everything in your power to get out, you gave up, accepting your fate. If you had a wand, it would have been easy to get through the wards, but well, they took it from you. At least they were considerate enough not to let you starve. Three times a day a meal would appear on the wooden table next to the front door, and as soon you were finished the plate vanished.
Sadly enough, guessing what they would come up with next for you to eat was the most interesting part of the seemingly never-ending days. It was torture, really. There was nothing for you to do except either sit there or uselessly wander around the tiny space. Never had you imagined you would ever wish to read a book, but that was exactly what you craved most. Distraction. Anything.
Todayâs lunch consisted of pastries, some sort of bread with your favourite spread andâ
You furrowed your eyebrows. How did they even know what your favourite was?
Shaking your head, you went on to finish your second meal of the day. It was not like you could ask them anyway.
Although you thought you had basically seen everything in the cabin, a strange looking wood panel caught your attention. It was just beneath one of the beds, barely peeking out. You quickly made your way towards it, and as you lifted the detached panel, a book and loose notes became visible. Quickly, you picked up what you had found and tried to make sense of it.
As you opened the book, you froze. Handwritten notes about Order member profiles, secret locations, frequently used spells and maps of Hogwarts were expertly put together on the paper. As you continued reading, more details came to light.
They knew everything.
Every single detail about Order movements, meetings, your research about Horcruxes⊠they had it all noted in that silly book. If they knew of all this, they could have erased the entire Order by now. The worst part was that you recognized Dracoâs handwriting, meaning they must have gathered the information themselves. You shuddered as you flipped through the pages and you found a page which had your timetable on it, every single lesson you took accurately sketched out, as well as routes you normally took through the castle to get to the classrooms.
If they had done this for every Order member, you wouldnât have been as creeped out, however it seemed to only be you who they made this effort for.
Someone from inside must have been leaking information, there was no way they could have found out all of this by themselves you thought. Just as you were about to study the notes, a loud creak of the front door had your head shoot up. Two familiar figures entered the cabin, taking off their masks on the way. You quickly tried to hide the notes, but it was too late.
âI thought you had learned your lesson about snooping around?â Tom asked, slowly making his way towards you.
âHow did you get all this information and what do you need it for?â
The brunetteâs mouth twitched, stopping right in front of you to take the books and notes from your hands. âThat is none of your business, darling.â
Your eyebrows furrowed, lips trembling as you stood up, ready to confront them. His taller figure still towered over you, his piercing gaze meeting yours. The brunetteâs expression was as always controlled, not a single emotion visible on his pale face.
âWhat did you think I was going to do? Sit there and reminisce about former times? Back when I wasnât locked in this tiny cabin with nothing else to do? If you thought I would just give in after whatever happened between us, you are wrong. I will never defy the Order. Not until my very last breath.â
Your tone was sharp, drawing their attention to you. Tom turned around to face Draco as they exchanged a glance. âWe thought you would say that. But as we said, you arenât getting out of here. Not until itâs over.â The blonde said, coming closer as well.
As you were about to complain, the last sentence got caught in your head. You tilted your head, turning your attention to Draco, slowly walking towards him.
âUntil what is over?â You questioned, voice controlled, barely above a whisper. Tom sighed defeatedly, closing his eyes as he pinched the bridge of his nose, turning away from you two. âMalfoy, you are quite possibly the most stupid person I have ever had to work with.â He muttered under his breath, slowly shaking his head.
âUntil what is over?â You repeated, eyes flickering between your capturers.
None of them were looking at you anymore though, Dracoâs gaze was following Tom, who was pacing around the small cabin.
âGuys talk t-â your attempt to speak was cut off by Tom swiftly locking his eyes with yours, approaching you. Taking a few steps backwards didnât help, as you were stopped by the bed behind you. âYou liked what we did, didnât you? You enjoyed it?â He questioned calmly, his eyes staring right into yours, breath hot on your face.
As you didnt reply but rather avoid his strict expression, his hand wandered to your face, squeezing your cheeks almost painfully.
âAnswer me.â
âYes I did but-â you complained, however  you were cut off again.
âGreat. Thatâs all.â Tom loosened his grip, taking a step back with a sly grin on his face.
âYou tell me what is going on. Why did you bring me here?â You hissed, though neither of them seemed to care. They were looking for something, and as they spotted one last sheet of paper you had managed to hide from them until that moment, the blonde snatched it, his lips perking up in a smile. âGot it.â He said, handing it over to Tom who also seemed satisfied.
You shook your head and huffed. âIf I ever get out of here, you two should hope the Order show mercy. You have been spying on them for Merlin knows how long.â
âOrder, Order, Order. Itâs always just the Order with you, isnât it? May I remind you of your blood status and who is in this very room with you?â Draco asked, though not necessarily in an offensive way, not like you were used to at least.
A scoff escaped your slightly parted lips as you shook your head in disbelief. âThe Order is my family. However, I canât help but ask myself,â your legs carrying you ever so slowly towards the blonde, âWhat would your dear families think of you getting with a muggle-born, hm?â Finally stopping in front of him, crossing your arms over your chest as you raised your eyebrows. Two pairs of eyes were now staring directly at you, the room having fallen into complete silence.
Draco closed the distance between you two, capturing you in a passionate kiss. Your first kiss together. His hand sneaked up to your neck, holding you close to him. âIf you think we care about that you are mistaken.â He breathed, pulling away from you.
âWe had an agreement, Malfoyâ Tom warned, approaching you two.
âTell her.â
The brunetteâs hand softly wrapped around your throat from behind, pressing his chest against your back as he leaned in, placing a small kiss on your ear. âThis whole thing was never about the Order, darling.â
âA- About what is it then?â you breathed, tilting your head slightly as Tom trailed soft kisses down your neck.
âIt has always been about you. Your safety.â Draco answered huskily, his lips meeting yours again before you had the chance to reply anything.
âYou two are so infuriating.â You said as you broke apart.
âThatâs why you love us.â
Soft moans escaped your mouth as the two Slytherins worked your body, the blonde ridding you of your trousers while Tom pulled your shirt over your head, leaving you in your matching set of red underwear. âSo pretty for us.â Draco encouraged, his hands roaming over your exposed skin, cupping your breasts over your lace bra at last, while Tom worked to open it. As soon as the material hit the ground, the blondeâs lips closed around your hardened peak, twirling his tongue around it before gently dragging his teeth over the sensitive skin. Tomâs hand travelled over your waist to your tummy, slipping inside your panties to find your swollen clit, drawing lazy circles on it.
Any doubt in your mind had long vanished, replaced by the pure bliss of pleasure spreading through your body. Just when you were about to reach your much needed release, your palm closing around around Tomâs arm as your head rested on his shoulder, the brunette withdrew his hand, leaving you teetering at the edge of your climax.
Your eyes fluttered open, a whimper falling over your lips at the loss of his touch. âPleaseâ you whined, but as always, they didnât listen to you.
âPatience is virtue, darling. Now, kneel for us.â
You did as you were told, sinking down on the cold wooden floor, eyes locking onto Draco. Excitement started rushing through you at the sight of your capturers, who stripped themselves of their black clothing, switching positions.
âItâs my turn try your sweet pussy today.â Draco murmured, lining himself up with your soaked entrance after collecting some of your slick. You both gasped as he slowly pushed his tip inside of you, stretching you just how you liked it. The brunette in the meanwhile watched you two hungrily, and just after you had adjusted to the blonde, Tom tapped his cock against your plump lips. Your eyes met his, your tongue swiping over your lips seductively. The brunetteâs brows furrowed slightly as he watched you, all while getting fucked by the other Slytherin. âDirty girl. Come on, open up now. Let me fuck that pretty mouth of yours.â
You stuck your tongue out, letting him slide his hard length past your lips. Just about over halfway in, he hit the back of your throat, having you gag around him. âOpen up wider, slut. I know you can. Saw it last time.â
It took a few thrusts until both Slytherinâs had set a steady rhythm, Dracoâs cock pushing into you from the perfect angle which had you seeing stars, while Tom mercilessly thrusted into your mouth, using hid grip on your hair as leverage. âSuch a good girl for us. Doing so well.â The blonde cooed, fingertips digging into the flesh of your hips as he sped up, his tip kissing your cervix with almost every thrust. âYou like this, donât you?â
âMmhm-â you agreed best you could as the lewd sounds of Tom hitting the back of your throat filled the cabin. Dissatisfied with your reply his fingers tangled in your curls, pulling you off his cock, a string of saliva connecting to your lips. âAnswer him properlyâ he demanded, his darkened eyes staring back at yours.
âY-Yes I do! I love it!â You blurt out, groaning when the blondeâs hand sneaked towards your clit to rub on it. âThatâs right, good girl.â Tom growled, pushing back into you.
Your hips moved back against Dracoâs for extra friction, feeling the waves of your high about to break the dam that had been holding it back for so long, eager to find release.
Both of their arms jerked back with a hiss and they exchanged a glance, halting their movements. âWhy did you stop?â you blinked a few times, the feeling in your lower stomach slowly fading.
âI fear we have to go. So sorry, love. We will make it up to you, I promise.â Draco explained, getting up. They dressed themselves in a hurry, not paying you any more attention.
âYou canât be serious. Stay! Donât even think about leaving me here again!â You yelled, however both of them had already put on their coats, exiting the cabin at once.
The door was locked. They had left you behind yet again.
You sank down against the door, exhaling sharply. Your eyes roamed around the place, and just as you were about to get up to dress yourself, you spotted something familiar. It was your wand, which they had apparently lost in their hurry. Quickly you got dressed and picked up your wand, feeling relieved to finally have it back.
With the help of some spells, you were able to work your way through the wards, and the door opened. A smile formed on your face at the first breath of fresh air in days. You contemplated leaving behind a note but decided against it. If they werenât going to tell you why it was important to stay in the cabin, you wouldnât. The Order needed you.
You made your way out of the small hut, checking whether it was safe.
Then, you ran.

happy birthday, handsome. tags : fluff!! wc : 900 masterlist
-
There was a period in Wriothesleyâs life where time did not seem to have a significant meaning. Being a convict meant experiencing more or less the same usual routine until he didnât need to throw a quick glance towards a clock in order to know what time it was. His body adjusted automatically, his stomach always starting to growl around the same time every day, his twitching hands and fingertips signalling that it was time for his daily training, and his drooping eyes and yawns telling him that it was time to head back to his cell.Â
Life as the Duke, didnât change Wriothesleyâs perception of time for the better since he ceased to distinguish between day and night. The automatism and biological clock of his body disappeared, making him eat whenever he had time, sleep whenever he finished his duties, and head to the Pankration Ring whenever his thoughts and emotions seemed to get the best of him.Â
All of a sudden, Wriothesleyâs eyes started to trail more frequently towards the old grandfather clock in his office. He looked forward to every Tuesday and Friday, when you were sent to the Fortress of Meropide on behalf of Neuvillette in order to take care of administrative matters. You always showed up around the same time, and on the days that you didnât, he couldnât help but impatiently pace around his office, or sit in the cantine with a bouncing leg while shooting a look over his shoulder every once in a while in fear that he would miss you.
Luckily, the awkward greetings and occasional small talks mixed with fluttering hearts and sweet smiles very soon turned into planned dinners and dates, until you became a huge part of his life as much as he became of yours.Â
-
It was late in the evening when Wriothesley threw himself in his chair with a deep exhale. With only a few tasks of which he had all already taken care of, it had been a quiet day so far, and usually those were his favourite kind of days. When he could aimlessly stroll through the fortress, work out whenever he felt like it, sit peacefully in his office and listen to music or read a book. But with you out of town, sent to Liyue for official affairs, it was simply a boring day.Â
The fact that it was his birthday didnât necessarily make anything better, though he had to admit that he felt silly. There had been days when his birthday had as much significance to him as any other day, until your loving self stepped into his life, threw everything upside down and made every single day significant.Â
Leaning back into his seat, Wriothesley pondered about how he could possibly spend the remaining time of the night before going to sleep. He hadnât been home in days, ever since you left, and he had no intention of doing so until your return, preferring the uncomfortable couch and throw-blanket over your shared bed. Home never felt the same without you.Â
âShit, shit, shit. Wriothesley!â You werenât supposed to return for another few days.Â
Heâd recognise your voice everywhere at any time or place, but there was no denying that those quick stomps and breathless profanities that you spewed were yours as you climbed the staircase up to his office.Â
âI-Iâm not late, am I? Itâs still the 23rd, right?â His chuckle warmed your cheeks as your dishevelled self seemed to be quite amusing to him, hair a complete mess, and not too far away from an asthmatic attack while you braced your hands on your knees. Â
With a heart so unbelievably full and beating irregularly, Wriothesleyâs eyes automatically flew to the clock across the room and his lips stretched into a soft smirk. Of course, you didnât miss it.Â
âYou have exactly one minute left, love.â His tall form stood up but before he could even take another step in your direction, you had already pounced on him. Arms tightly wrapped around his neck, chest against chest, hearts so close that their beats synched into one single melody-Â
âIâm home.â You breathed into his ear, and Wriothesley was about to utter the same phrase before he settled for a simple hum instead and squeezed your waist tighter, pulling you further against him. His body relaxed entirely in your presence, the trail of kisses you left along his neck and up to his chin softening his knees until he swore he could hardly stand.Â
âHappy birthday, handsome.âÂ
You breathed each other in like air. And you smiled against his lips when you noticed that he tasted the same as ever, still smelled so good, and still kissed so good. Wriothesley deepened the kiss, leaving you no choice but to brace yourself on him, hands flat on his broad chest. It was impossible to tell which one of you was having the upper hand as your grip on his shirt was as desperate as Wriothesleyâs low sighs and groans that filled the quiet room.Â
His thumb and index finger on your chin held you in place, and allowed you to pull back only when he himself was starting to get low on oxygen. Your skin was a little colder than his when he leaned his forehead against yours, heavy breaths mingling and your noses brushing one-two times, leaving love sick smiles on your faces.Â
Yeah, you were definitely home.

okay disjointed thoughts about the wicked movie 1 day after watching it lets go
-first of all, my movie theater put speakers outside and was just blasting the entire soundtrack on repeat. we could hear it down the street as we were driving up. that's just simply insane
-the opening establishing shots of the land were great but honestly. the very clearly animated dorothy and gang really annoyed me lmfao like I'm sorry it cannot have possibly been too hard to get a few extras to stand in front of a screen for point 5 seconds lol. it was so fast that I Know I'm being dramatic about it but they looked more cartoon than the flying monkey's did
-baby elphie and baby nessa are the cutest things I've ever seen in my life...
-I kinda...like the more human/animal hybrids that the stage show and the original movie had. sorry. like I Get they were only like that bc you can't make a real life goat sing and dance but they're just more interesting to look at than normal-looking animals who happen to talk!
-jeff goldblum's face being hidden every time he had a dance number...I have a sneaking suspicion that he wasn't really dancing lmfao
-whoever decided to bleach ariana's eyebrows deserves jail time
-when jonathan bailey first showed up on screen my mother leaned over to me and whispered 'he's HANDSOME...'
-when cynthia finished the 'wizard and I' I had to actually stop myself from applauding. it felt so weird and rude for there to be dead silence after that performance my GOD.
-also omg the part where she's singing about the wizard de-green-ifying her and the colors in the suncatchers were canceling out the green so she looked normal....inspired!
-madame morrible had these HUGE crystal ball looking rings and I just want them so much lmao
-glinda's friends were really funny the bit were she was like 'I need to lie down' and they immediately picked her up like a plank of wood and carried her off while the one was screaming 'WE NEED A PASTRY!!! IT'S AN EMERGENCY WE NEED A PASTRY!!!' had me cackling
-I wish there was more time between them moving in and 'what is this feeling' starting? like I wanted more time to see them bickering and then also more time seeing them getting along after the ball??
-'dancing through life' was BEAUTIFUL however two complaints 1) why would they cut the line 'what's the most swankified place around?' I Quote That Often and 2) at the end when glinda and elphie dance together like...it's beautiful and everything but from what I remember after their solo moment fieryo joins them?? and they have a cute three way dance moment??? and I'm very pro "they're all in love with each other" so I missed that lol
-also just in general would of liked to see more of fieryo with the girls! like it felt like ball->lion cub->emerald city, in the course of a couple days, and idk I just feel like they could have slowed it down a bit?? especially since they broke it into two movies?? like I don't think that Actually all happened in the span of a week, but they didn't do a good enough job establishing how much time was passing so it Felt like it. which is dumb bc then it just doesn't seem realistic that elphie and glinda are THAT attached to each other by defying gravity like it feels like not enough time has passed for them to really know each other
-boq felt very mild tbh I know ethan can be more unhinged than that
-would've liked to see glinda in magic class!!
-I was a little underwhelmed by elphaba's costumes? like there were clearly patterns on the material but it was all the same shade of black so you couldn't make anything out. it felt a bit flat. and I love the idea behind the freckles I agree with freckles I am pro freckles HOWEVER her's looked very obviously drawn on. like, I have seen way more realistic fake freckles before. so that was a bit annoying
-other than the lunchmeat dress glinda's costumes were good! especially loved the flower shaped one she wore to the ball
-the whole trying to escape in the hot air ballon scene was cool as hell but as the flaming remains of it fell to the ground I couldn't help but be like wow...she really just killed all those guards huh!
-also lmfao the bit in the woods with the lion club and fieryo has like a scratch on his temple. genuinely thought to myself 'is that his lobotomy scar' lmfao
-still trying to get over the part in dancing through life where people were dancing on the spinning gears in the clock tower...bitch
-the flying monkeys were correctly horrifying
-when I saw the broomstick I was like 'won't that be really uncomfortable between your legs' but then she just held it next to her like they do in the stage show and I was like....okay I guess you win that one? lmfao like I don't mind it for when she's hovering but when they had her like supersonic zooming on the broom it was weird that she wasn't actually riding it
-overall I just don't understand how it's an adaptation of act 1 but it's the length of the entire stage show?? lmao like I wish they took advantage of the split and added so much more but really really it was still just such a solid great movie. 5 stars. I can't keep talking about it right now I'm gonna start screaming.

The Adventure Beyond. - JJ Maybank X Reader
A/N: A mini-series (Sort of) inspired by the Dad!JJ or Family man JJ fics i've been seeing. Also have been using an AI writing assistant to help with some grammar and hopefully to better the flow of my writing. I hope you enjoy. This is for everyone in need of JJ Fluff after season 4.
Summary: An epilogue of JJ's Story. His life is one huge adventure. Told in time-skips and memories.
The Outer Banks was always a place for wild memorable adventuresâsurfing, treasure hunts, and late-night bonfires with your friends. It was home. But this was a different kind of adventure, one that JJ Maybank never expected, yet found himself excited for in ways he couldnât quite describe. It was the kind of adventure that lasted a lifetime.
You were sitting on the porch of Poguelandia, staring out at the ocean. The sound of the waves crashing against the shore usually calmed you, but today, your thoughts were far from peaceful. Cleo & Kie had gone to brunch together and Cleo and Pope were with John B enjoying an early morning surf. You were alone, except for JJ who had previously been sleeping on the couch. You hand found your head. You had been feeling nauseous for weeks now, but you brushed it off at firstâchalked it up to stress or maybe something you ate. But now, with the test in your hand, the reality was clear.
You were pregnant.
Your heart raced as you thought about the next steps, the future, and how this would change everything. But more than anything, you wondered what JJ would think. He wasnât exactly the "settling down" type, and you didnât know how heâd react to the news. You had to tell him, but you didnât know where to start. After uncovering his true parentage, JJ had been acting strangely whenever you mentioned marriage or family. He was insecure about the topic.
The sound of footsteps on the wooden deck behind pulled you out of your thoughts. You looked up just in time to see JJâs familiar figure walking toward you, his signature smirk plastered on his face. He was always so carefree, so full of life, but today, there was something different in the way he looked at you.
"Good mornin', Baby-girl." he said softly, his voice full of warmth as he took a seat beside you on the steps. His arm brushed against yours, and you felt a shiver run down your spine.
"Hey," you replied, trying to sound casual, but your nerves were obvious. You felt the test in your pocket like it was a weight you couldnât escape. You had no idea what he would say or how he'd react.
JJ noticed the change in your tone, the way you seemed distant, and his grin faltered just slightly. He placed his hand over yours, his thumb gently rubbing the back of your hand as he searched your eyes.
"Whatâs going on?" he asked, his voice softening. "Youâve been acting weird for a few days."
You took a deep breath, the test still weighing heavily in your pocket. This was it. There was no turning back now. It was now or never.
"JJ," you began, your voice shaky. "I need to tell you something. Something big."
JJ turned his body toward you, his gaze intense as he waited for you to continue. The wind picked up slightly, blowing strands of hair into your face. You pushed them behind your ear and swallowed hard.
"It might change everything." you giggle slightly nervously. "Hey, whoa, i'm right here," JJ reassured you.
"Iâm⊠Iâm pregnant."
The words felt like they were hanging in the air between you two, heavy with uncertainty. For a moment, JJ said nothing. He just stared at you, his expression unreadable.
"Pregnant?" he finally repeated, his voice low, almost like he was testing the word on his tongue.
"Yeah," you said, nodding slowly. "I just found out. I didnât know how toâ"
Before you could finish, JJ pulled you into a tight hug, his arms wrapping around you like a lifeline. You froze for a second, stunned by the sudden closeness, but then you melted into his embrace, feeling the warmth of his body against yours.
"Hey, hey, itâs okay," he murmured into your hair. "This is⊠This is crazy, but weâll figure it out. Weâre in this together."
You looked up at him, surprised by the calmness in his voice. JJ had always been a whirlwind, a guy who lived for the next thrill, but in this moment, he was steady. He was here for you.
"Youâre not mad? Or, Or- upset?" you asked, your voice barely a whisper. You had been worried that heâd be overwhelmed, that heâd run like he always did when things got serious.
JJ shook his head, a small smile tugging at the corner of his lips. "Mad? No. Freaked out? Yeah, a little. But mad? Nah. This is big, but we can do this, Y/N. Weâve always figured things out before, havenât we?"
Tears welled up in your eyes as you nodded, feeling a weight lift off your chest. JJ may not have been the most conventional guy, but he had a heart bigger than anyone gave him credit for. And he wasnât going anywhere.
"Weâll be okay," you said, more to yourself than to him.
JJ pulled back just enough to look you in the eye, his face softening. "We will. And hey, Iâm not exactly an expert on this whole parenting thing, but Iâll be there. Iâll be there for you and for this little one, no matter what." You stay stiff for a moment, glancing down at your hands and fidgeting for a moment before meeting his eyes again as he continues. "Baby Maybank is going to have the best aunts and uncles in the world, and-" JJ stops himself and his expression sobers up. "I know I want to do better than My dad or Luke ever could."
"JJ-..." Your heart swelled with emotion, and you couldnât help but smile. "You mean that?"
"Yeah," he said with a confidence you hadnât expected. "I do."
For the first time in a long while, JJ Maybank was serious. And you realized that even in the face of something that would change everything, you werenât alone. You had each other. And maybe, just maybe, this would be the greatest adventure yet. It was only the start.
. . . .
It had been roughly 9 months or so since you told JJ about the baby, and while the news had initially thrown him for a loop, it was clear he was more than ready to take on fatherhood. Heâd been there for every doctorâs appointment, every late-night craving, and every moment when you needed reassurance. And now, as your due date grew closer, you both found yourselves feeling the weight of what was about to happen.
It was a quiet evening when it started. You were sitting on the couch, your feet propped up, and JJ was next to you, watching some random show on TV. The sound of the waves outside was soothing, and for a moment, everything felt like it was in its right place.
Then, you felt it.
A sharp pain radiated through your lower abdomen, making you wince. You tried to ignore it, but then another one came, stronger this time. You winced in pain and groaned.
"Hey, are you okay?" JJ looked over, noticing the shift in your expression. His eyes narrowed as he sat up straighter. "Y/N?"
"Iâ" you gasped, clutching the edge of the couch. "I think itâs almost time."
JJâs eyes went wide with realization. "No way. Youâre⊠Youâre sure?"
You nodded, trying to keep your breathing steady. "Iâm sure. The contractions⊠theyâre getting closer."
JJ leaped to his feet, looking around like he didnât know where to start. "Right. Okay. I⊠Iâm gonna go get the car! Wait here. Donât move, okay?"
You grabbed his arm before he could go running off in a panic. "JJ, slow down. Weâve got time. Call the hospital first."
He took a deep breath, clearly trying to calm himself down. "Okay, okay. Iâve got this. I know what to do. You just breathe, alright?" He reassured. He had read that in a parenting book he had gotten, and he was suddenly trying to recall several books worth of information. He wanted to know exactly what to do to be the best dad he could, better than his own.
You smiled, despite the pain. "Iâm not the one freaking out, J."
With his usual energetic (and slightly chaotic) demeanor, JJ grabbed his phone, calling the hospital to let them know you were on your way. Then, he hurried back to you, his face full of determination.
"Alright, baby. Weâre going to get you there. Everythingâs going to be fine." He kissed the top of your head and grabbed the bag you had packed weeks ago.
The drive to the hospital felt like the longest ride of your life, but JJ stayed calm, keeping up the reassuring chatter, telling you that you were doing great, that this was just the beginning of your new adventure together. The way he held your hand and squeezed it between contractions made you feel grounded, even as everything around you seemed to be moving too fast.
When you finally arrived, the nurses quickly whisked you into a room. JJ stayed right by your side the entire time, despite the chaos of doctors and medical staff running around. He even tried to joke with you between contractions, telling you that you were doing better than he wouldâve expected.
"Iâd probably be the one freaking out if I had to do this," he said with a grin. "But you? Youâre amazing, Y/N."
The hours felt like a blur. The pain was intense, but JJ was right there, holding your hand, whispering words of encouragement, and reminding you that you were almost there. You were in such pain that your head threw back, and the last thing you remember of those seconds before was the ringing in your ear, the bright wash of cool white lights from the ceiling, the sweat on your forehead, and release.
And then, when it seemed like you couldnât take any more, you finally heard it.
A cry. A tiny, beautiful cry.
You blinked through the tears in your eyes, your heart racing as the nurse placed the baby in your arms. JJ leaned in, his eyes wide with awe as he gazed at the tiny bundle being handed to you, the doctors cleaned the baby's eyes and nose.
"Look," he whispered, his voice cracking. "Our kid."
You looked down at the little one in your arms, the feeling of love and joy washing over you in a way you never thought possible. The babyâs small fingers curled around yours, and you felt a rush of emotions you couldnât put into words.
JJâs hand rested on your shoulder, his gaze never leaving the baby. "We did it," he whispered, the disbelief in his voice turning to wonder.
"Yeah, we did," you said softly, smiling as you looked up at him. "And I wouldnât want to do this with anyone else." he whispered.
JJâs face softened, his usual carefree attitude replaced with a tenderness youâd never seen before. "You and me," he said quietly, as if making a promise. "Weâve got this. Together."
JJ reaches to hold his baby, and once she is in his arms, it becomes real. The baby let out another soft cry, and JJ, in his own awkward yet adorable way, gently rubbed the babyâs little back. "Hi Baby girl, It's your daddy..." he coos. "I love you so much already kiddo," he murmured, eyes glistening. "Youâve got the best parents in the world. and uh, No pressure, but you better be ready for the best adventures."
. . . .
A year had passed since you and JJ had welcomed your little one into the world. Life had changed in ways you never couldâve imagined. Parenthood had its challengesâ sleepless nights, endless diapers, and adjusting to a new routine. But through it all, you and JJ had grown stronger, learning how to navigate this new chapter of life together.
One night, after the baby had finally fallen asleep in their crib, you and JJ found yourselves sitting on the porch again, just like you had when you first told him you were pregnant. The sky was painted with the colors of the setting sun orangey, peachy, faded into a deep sea color, the sound of the waves crashing against the shore adding a peaceful hum to the evening. The cicads just starting their song and the breeze settling in your hair.
"You know, I've been thinking," JJ said, his voice unusually quiet.
You turned to him, raising an eyebrow. "About what?"
He was staring at the horizon, a thoughtful expression on his face. "Us. Everything weâve been through. The baby, our little family. And how much I love you. I donât want to just talk about it forever, you know?"
You smiled, a warmth spreading through you. You had no idea where he was going with this, but you could feel your heart racing anyway.
"I love you too, JJ," you said, your voice soft. "Iâve never been more sure of anything in my life."
JJ took a deep breath, his usual cocky smirk fading into something much more serious. He turned to you, his eyes filled with that intensity you loved. "Then I want to make it official. I want you to be mine, always. I want to be your husband."
You blinked, your breath catching in your throat. Did he just say what you thought he said?
He reached into his pocket and pulled out a small box, opening it to reveal a simple, yet stunning ring. "Y/N, will you marry me?"
Your heart skipped a beat, and you felt a rush of emotions flood over you. JJ Maybank, the carefree, wild guy who never seemed to settle down, was asking you to marry him. There had been so many moments in the past when you doubted if he could ever truly commit to something like this. But here he was, asking you to be his forever.
You examined the ring, it was in a shiny velvet dark red box that was worn. The initials in a faded gold cursive 'LG'. It was something of his mothers'.
Tears welled up in your eyes as you reached out for the ring, holding it in your hand. "Yes. Of course, yes," you whispered, your voice trembling with happiness.
JJ grinned, looking both relieved and ecstatic at the same time. He slid the ring onto your finger, and for a moment, it felt like time stood still. You leaned in, kissing him gently as he wrapped his arms around you, pulling you close.
"I promise, Iâm going to love you every single day," he murmured against your lips.
. . . .
The weeks leading up to the wedding were a whirlwind of excitement. You and JJ had agreed on something small and intimateâjust the two of you, the baby, and a few close friends. The thought of having a big, extravagant wedding didnât feel right; it was about the two of you, your family, and this new life you were building together.
When the day finally arrived, you stood on the beach where you and JJ had shared so many of your first moments, the waves crashing gently behind you. Your heart pounded in your chest as you gazed out at the horizon, feeling the same nervous excitement you had felt when you were first pregnant, unsure of what the future held but knowing you were ready to face it together.
JJ stood at the end of the makeshift aisle, dressed in a simple yet handsome suit. His eyes never left you as you walked toward him, a grin spreading across his face. The moment you reached him, he took your hands in his, the same hands that had held yours through every high and low.
"You look perfect," he said, his voice full of awe.
"You clean up pretty well yourself," you teased, fighting back the tears that threatened to spill.
The officiant, a close friend of yours both, non other than John Booker Routledge, smiled at the two of you. "Weâre gathered here today to celebrate the love and commitment between these two peopleâŠ"
But you hardly heard the rest of the ceremony. All that mattered in that moment was JJâthe way his hand gently squeezed yours, the way his eyes softened when he looked at you. The sea breeze, the smell of marsh and the glow of the sunset. You could feel the promise in the air, the certainty that this was where you were always meant to be.
When the officiant pronounced you both husband and wife, JJ didnât hesitate. He pulled you into his arms, kissing you deeply, his heart and soul laid bare in that simple moment. The world around you faded away as you held each other, knowing that no matter what life threw at you, you were ready to face it together.
As you walked back down the aisle, hand in hand with your new husband, you couldnât help but feel the overwhelming joy.
. . . .
It was a perfect summer day in the Outer Banks. The sun was high in the sky, casting its golden glow over the beach, and the ocean was calm, its waves gently lapping at the shore. You and JJ had taken your little one out for the day, and while you were content to lounge on the sand and soak up the sun, JJ had something else on his mind.
"Daddy!" Your daughterâs voice rang out, high-pitched with excitement as she splashed around near the waterâs edge. "I want to go further! I want to swim like you!"
JJ grinned from ear to ear, watching his daughter run toward him with her tiny swimsuit bouncing as she ran. "You sure you're ready?" he asked, crouching down to her level.
"Yeah!" she exclaimed, her face full of determination and a little mischief, just like her father. "I want to be like you, Daddy! I want to swim in the big waves!"
JJ chuckled, running a hand through his tousled hair. "Alright, cupcake," he said with a wink. "Letâs start with the basics. You trust me?"
She nodded, her blue eyes wide with trust, mirroring his. It was clear that she adored her dad, and JJ, always the carefree and energetic guy, was more than happy to pass on his love of the water to his daughter.
"Okay, hereâs the plan," JJ said, scooping her up and carrying her toward the water. "Weâre gonna take it slow. First, weâll just get your feet wet, then weâll move on from there. Donât worry, Iâve got you."
You smiled as you watched the two of them interact. You knew how much JJ had grown since becoming a father. The wild, unpredictable guy who once couldnât sit still for more than a few minutes was now patiently teaching his daughter something as important as swimming, all while making her laugh, and cracking jokes to entertain both of you.
As JJ waded into the shallow water, holding his daughter carefully, he turned to her and said, "Okay, listen. The first thing you need to remember is to keep your head above the water. No matter what, keep your eyes on me, alright? Iâll be right here."
She nodded eagerly, gripping onto his neck as he gently waded deeper into the ocean, letting the water rise up to their waists. She giggled as the cool waves splashed over her legs. She was scared, but like her father she wouldn't admit it. That Maybank firceness.
"This is fun," she squealed, her voice high with excitement.
JJ smiled at her, his usual confident smirk turning softer. "Iâm glad you think so. Now, ready for the next step?"
You could see his nerves underneath the surface, but he was determined to make this moment count. You knew he was a natural when it came to making people feel safeâespecially his daughterâand you could see the bond between them growing with every moment.
"Okay, weâre gonna practice kicking," JJ explained. "You want to kick your legs like this," he demonstrated, giving her legs a gentle nudge to show her the motion. "Big, strong kicks, just like a dolphin."
His daughter laughed and kicked her legs, splashing water everywhere as she mimicked him. "Like this, Daddy?" she asked excitedly.
"Exactly like that!" JJ exclaimed. "Youâre a natural, kiddo."
You watched as he continued to guide her through the motions, his voice calm and reassuring. "Good job. Now, letâs try floating on your back, alright?" he said, holding her securely in the water. "Youâve got to trust the water, trust that itâs going to hold you up."
She hesitated for a second, her tiny hands gripping his shoulders tightly. "But what if I fall, Daddy?" she asked, her voice small but brave.
JJ's face softened with understanding. He looked her in the eye, his hand gently smoothing back her wet hair. "You wonât fall. Iâve got you. I wonât let you go. Youâre safe with me, okay?"
She looked up at him, her trust unwavering. "Okay, Daddy."
And just like that, she let go of her fears, leaning back into the water with JJâs arms supporting her, guiding her to float. You could see the relief in her face as she finally relaxed, her tiny body gently bobbing in the water.
"There you go," JJ said, his voice full of pride. "Youâre swimming, just like I knew you could. That's my girl."
. . . .
It was a warm Saturday afternoon when JJ came home from work, pushing through the front door. The moment he stepped inside, he noticed the scent of freshly baked cookies drifting through the house. But that wasnât what caught his attention. No, it was the sound of his daughterâs giggles from upstairsâher voice light, teasing, and clearly way too excited about something.
He had taken a job that paid the bills, kept his family safe and fed. taken care of, even if he didn't really like it. an office job was boring, but he got to give his expertise on treasure hunting, and he worked with a lot of fun young archaeologists.
"Hey, kiddo, whatâs going on?" JJ called out as he kicked off his shoes and made his way to the staircase.
Your daughter appeared at the top of the stairs, looking unusually... polished. Her hair was done in cute little braids, and she was wearing a floral dress you mustâve helped her pick out. JJâs eyes narrowed as he gazed up at her.
"Dad!" she grinned down at him, clearly excited. "Iâm going on my first date!"
JJ froze. He blinked, taking a moment for his brain to process what she just said. "Wait, what?" His voice was barely above a whisper, but the edge of disbelief was undeniable.
"Yep!" She bounced down the stairs, twirling around in her dress as if she were some grown-up at a fancy dinner. "His nameâs Tyler. Heâs from my history class, and heâs super nice."
JJâs eyes widened, and he crossed his arms. "Hold up. Tyler? Youâre going out with a guy named Tyler?" He shot a look at you, who was standing in the kitchen, trying (and failing) to hide a smile at JJâs growing concern.
You stifled a laugh, seeing the protective father in action. "JJ, sheâs just going on a date. Let her have fun."
JJ didnât seem to hear you. Instead, his gaze stayed locked on his daughter. "How old is this Tyler?"
"Heâs 17, Dad. Just a year older than me!" She said the last part like it was supposed to reassure him. But to JJ, that was exactly the problem. He had been that age once too. he could remember when he was all over you.
"Seventeen?" JJ muttered, his tone a mix of disbelief and concern. He wasnât angry, but he was definitely... apprehensive. "I donât care if heâs 25, youâre my little girl, Cupcake, and Iâ" He paused, trying to find the right words. "Are you sure about this?"
His daughter rolled her eyes, but there was a fondness behind her teasing. "Dad, Iâm fine! Heâs a good guy. You can trust me."
JJ stood up straight, his protective instincts kicking into overdrive. "Trust you? Of course, I trust you. But him?" He rubbed a hand through his hair, pacing for a second. "Youâre my baby girl. What if he does something... something dumb?"
You couldnât help but chuckle at the sight of JJâusually so calm and laid-back, now pacing like a lion in a cage. "JJ, sheâs 16, not 5. She knows what sheâs doing."
Your daughter crossed her arms, giving her dad a look that could only be described as an eye-roll combined with affection. "Itâs not like Iâm going to be out past midnight." she was just as sassy as he was.
You smiled softly, walking over to JJ and placing a hand on his arm to stop his pacing. "Sheâs going to be fine, love. Itâs just a date, not a life-altering event. And youâve raised her wellâshe knows what to look out for."
But JJ wasnât entirely convinced. He turned to his daughter, his expression softening, though there was still a protective edge to his voice. "I want you to be safe. Text me when you get there, and when you leave, alright? And no funny businessâno getting into cars with anyone, especially some dude named Tyler. Got it?"
His daughter snorted, clearly amused by his protectiveness, but she nodded. "Fine, fine, Dad. Iâll text you constantly so you can feel better."
"And no sneaking away or doing something crazy. You aren't some grown-up," JJ continued, his tone light, but there was no mistaking the worry behind his words.
"Got it," she said, shaking her head with a smile that screamed, âI love you, but youâre impossible.â JJ exhaled sharply, running his hand through his hair again. "And if you need me to come pick you up, for any reason, you call me. No questions asked."
"Dad, Iâll be fine," she reassured him again, now with an extra layer of affection in her voice. "Tylerâs cool, I swear." JJâs face softened, his voice quieter. "I just... I just want to make sure youâre safe. Thatâs all. Youâre my girl, and I love you more than anything."
You could see the softness in JJâs expression, the deep affection for his daughter that made his words sound so heartfelt.
"Love you too, Dad," she said, hugging him tightly. "And Iâm gonna be okay. Promise."
JJ hesitated for a second before hugging her back, lifting her up for a moment like she was still his little baby, even though she wasnât. "Alright, alright. But if anything feels wrong, you come straight home, understood?"
"Understood," she replied with a smirk. "Can I go now?"
"One last thing." He ushers her to step forward, she shares his golden curls and has a few pieces astray that JJ pushes behind her ear in a loving way. "I just wanted to say that you look beautiful hun." JJ let her go, still looking a little too serious for your liking, but clearly trusting her judgment, even if he didnât quite trust Tyler.
"Okay, but one last-last, thing," JJ added, running his hand through his hair again. "If he makes you uncomfortable at all, or if heâs not respectfulâ"
"Dad!" Your daughter groaned, cutting him off with a laugh. You chuckled as you watched JJ try to hold it together, clearly still struggling with the idea of his little girl dating. "Have fun, sweetie," you said, trying to ease the tension. "Youâre going to be fine. Just be careful and enjoy yourself."
JJ watched her leave, his arms still crossed, eyes scanning the door long after she was gone. You could see the wheels turning in his head, but you knew it would take him a little while to relax completely.
As soon as the door closed behind her, JJ sighed deeply and flopped down onto the couch, running a hand over his face. "I swear, Iâm going to need a drink after this."
You sat down beside him, wrapping your arm around his shoulder. "Sheâs growing up, JJ. But sheâs strong, and sheâs smart. Sheâs going to be okay."
JJ let out a long breath, resting his head back. "Yeah, I know. Just... give me a minute to breathe, okay?"
You laughed softly, kissing his cheek. "Of course. Iâll be right here. Donât worry."
. . . .
It was a Saturday evening when JJâs phone buzzed on the kitchen counter. He was at home with you, the two of you enjoying a rare quiet moment after a busy week. Your daughter had gone out earlier in the day, saying she was meeting some friends at the park for a âsocial event.â Sheâd been passionate about certain causes recently, always talking about how she wanted to make a difference. You and JJ had talked about it, of courseâyour daughter was growing into a young woman with strong ideals. Still, the way she talked about it all made you both a little nervous, especially when you didnât always know exactly what she was getting into.
She was just as mischieveious as her father was at that age, but less reckless. The Protesting was something she had been talking to her Aunt Kie Kie about recently. she was passionate, firey and full of life.
JJ was just pouring a glass of orange juice when the ringing sound cut through the silence again, followed by the unmistakable sound of an incoming call. He glanced at the screen, his brows furrowing when he saw the caller ID.
"It's the police," JJ muttered, a sinking feeling in his stomach. "Y/N, ...something's wrong." You stood up immediately, your heart leaping into your throat as JJ answered the call, his voice tense. His free hand ran through his hair, clearly trying to maintain his cool. "Whatâs going on?" You held your breath as JJâs face changed from concerned to something darker, more protective, as he listened to the person on the other end. Finally, after a long pause, he hung up, his face pale.
"JJ?" you asked, worry flooding your voice. He turned to you, his eyes wide. "Itâs our daughter... Sheâs been arrested." Your heart dropped. "What? What happened?"
"Theyâshe was protesting at a rally downtown," JJ explained, his voice shaking with barely contained anger. "It turned into a bigger protest, and things got out of hand. They arrested her forâ" He stopped, shaking his head. "For disorderly conduct. Y/N, sheâs in jail." Your daughter? Arrested? A thousand thoughts raced through your head. Your daughter, your sweet girl, had always been so passionate about causes she cared about, but you never imagined sheâd get caught up in something like this. Your protective instincts kicked in, just as JJâs had, but the question was: How did we get here?
Without another word, JJ grabbed his jacket and car keys. "Letâs go. We need to get her out of there." You nodded quickly, grabbing your purse and following him out the door. As you drove toward the police station, neither of you spoke much. There was nothing you could say to calm the growing sense of dread.
When you arrived, JJ wasted no time. He stormed inside with you following closely behind, his steps heavy with determination. The receptionist at the desk looked up with a weary expression as JJ slammed his palms onto the counter. "Iâm here to get my daughter out. Sheâs been arrested. What do I need to do?" JJ demanded, his voice low but full of authority. The receptionist blinked but quickly typed something into the computer.
"Name?" she asked, clearly used to dealing with situations like this. "Maybank," JJ said, his voice not softening in the slightest.
After a brief exchange, the receptionist handed over some paperwork for JJ to fill out. The moment he finished, you both sat in a cramped waiting area, the silence between you only interrupted by the occasional footsteps echoing down the hall. JJ was vibrating with tension, his fingers tapping impatiently on his knee, his jaw clenched as he stared at the door leading to the holding cells.
"Sheâs gonna be okay, alright?" You asked quietly, even though you werenât sure you believed the words yourself. JJ let out a breath, trying to calm himself. "I donât know. I just⊠I never thought sheâd be in a situation like this." He shook his head, frustration and fear clear in his eyes. "She was always so careful. Always so smart."
You could see his mind running through a dozen worst-case scenarios. He was terrified, and it broke your heart. You knew how fiercely protective he was of their daughter, how much he loved her.
"Sheâs strong, JJ," you said gently. "Sheâs been through tough things before. Sheâs a fighter. and she's just like you in that regard. Sheâll be okay." Just as the words left your mouth, the door to the holding area opened, and a police officer appeared, followed by your daughter.
When JJâs eyes locked on her, his breath hitched, and he shot up from his seat, rushing toward her. "Sweetheart," he said, his voice breaking, as he reached out to hold her. She looked tired, but she was alive and, more importantly, unharmed.
"Dad, Iâm okay," she said softly, her eyes brimming with tears. "I didnât mean for things to escalate like that. I justâ"
JJ pulled her into a tight hug, his voice rough. "I donât care what happened, baby girl. Iâm just glad youâre okay. Donât ever scare me like that again." You joined them, wrapping your arms around both of them. You could feel your daughterâs shoulders trembling, and you squeezed her tighter, knowing that she probably needed reassurance as much as JJ did.
"I'm so sorry, Mom, Dad," she whispered, her voice full of guilt. "I didnât think it would go this far. It was supposed to be peaceful. I swear, I didnât mean to get arrested."
JJ pulled back, his hands still on her shoulders as he looked at her. "I know you didnât mean for this to happen, but youâve got to be careful. Youâre my little girl, and I donât want you getting involved in something dangerous. You couldâve gotten hurt."
Your daughter nodded, tears slipping down her face. "I just wanted to make a difference. I thought this was the right thing to do. But⊠I donât know anymore." You wiped away a tear from her cheek, your heart aching for her. "You are making a difference. But we need to make sure youâre safe while you do it, alright?"
JJ nodded, his voice much softer now, but still full of that protective fatherly instinct. "Weâll figure this out together, okay? But for now, weâre getting out of here. And next timeâ" He shook his head, unable to continue. He pulled her into another tight hug. "Next time, you text us first. No more surprises, okay?"
She nodded, her arms squeezing him tightly. "I promise, Dad." As you all walked out of the police station, JJâs arm wrapped protectively around his daughterâs shoulders, the weight of the world still lingering on his shoulders. He hadnât expected this moment to come so soon, but you knew that no matter what, he would always protect his daughterâjust as fiercely as he loved her. Even if she reminded him of himself.
. . . .
You both sat on the porch once again, this time many many years in the future, graying and old. The cicadas still singing the same, the waves still lapping in the same old rhythm. The mosquitos out in full swing and the breeze tangling your silver hair. The moonlight is brisk.
You turn to the love of your life, the man who has been your everything since you were young once. You cut through the comfortable and loving silence finally. "JJ," you whisper. "Yes love?" His voice is now deeper, aged. It's raspy. "As our adventure comes to an end," you say. "I just want you to know that I love you." you say softly.
"I love you too." JJ says, "I wouldn't have wanted to have this life with anyone else. You are my everything." He smiles. You look out into the yard and remember all the highlights, highs lows and all, every moment up until now.
You gently rest your grayed head on his shoulder, the same as you did when you were young, and close your eyes.

A New Face (Pt.4) | Home
pairing: Tara Carpenter x Reader
summary: after eight months, you and Tara are closer than ever. Her playful texts pull you away from a project, and you spend the night cuddling, reassuring her you're not going anywhere.
word count: 981
a/n: hi guys this is literally so short bc I didn't want to ruin it + I'm already working on another part for who hurt you. this can read as a oneshot by itself hence the extra title; anyways I hope u guys like it, any feedback is appreciated and I'm proud of myself for figuring out how to do this collage thing below xoxo
Itâs been 8 months since you and Tara went on your first date and started dating; since then, youâve shared countless memories, learned more about each other than you ever expected, and your bond only has deepened, making you both excited to see what the future holds together. Thereâs been a mix of growth, fun and intimate moments; and although thereâs a few challenges, thereâs always playfulness and banter in the relationship.Â
Tonight, youâre focused on finishing your project, eager to submit it at least a day before the deadline so you wonât have to rush and send in poor quality work. But then, a ping on your phone distracts you.
Tara <3
can you come over? i miss you and Iâm bored

You
sorry babe, I canât. i have a project due in a few days

Tara <3
guess iâll just sit in bed..alone,cold
all by myself
w nobody to cuddle with. allll alone
You
oh shut up Iâm putting my shoes on
Sent at 11.55pm
This usual banter happens often. Honestly, you didnât mind how clingy Tara is, you knew what the younger Carpenter has been through. She decided to let you know about her past after a month of dating, with what happened to her and the core four a year ago; and you comforted her with cuddles and kisses with soft whispers for being brave and having to go through all of that.
Itâs almost midnight, but the way Taraâs playful messages cut through the tranquil night, itâs hard not to smile. You know her well enough to recognize when sheâs pretending to be dramaticâand when sheâs genuinely feeling a little lonely or vulnerable. The little banter between the two of you has become a ritual, a comfort. But beneath it all, thereâs that deep understanding of each otherâs lives, pasts, and fears. You know Taraâs history, and you know sheâs been through a lot. You could never understand how anyone would willingly put her in harms way. A single glance from her could make you melt into a puddle, as if the weight of the world disappeared in the softness of her eyes, leaving you both grounded and utterly undone at the same time.
You know that when you get to her place, all the tension in your body will melt away. As you head out, a small part of you canât help but reflect on how far youâve both come in just eight monthsâhow much youâve both grown together. Every little moment, where you can simply drop everything and be there for each other, makes all the difference.
Taraâs got a special place in your heart, and tonight, itâs all about making her feel seen, heard, and loved. For so long, the idea of "home" felt like a distant concept, something that belonged to a life you couldnât fully reclaim after your parents passed. You thought youâd never feel settled again, that kind of deep connection, the feeling of being truly seen and understood. But with Tara, itâs different. Itâs effortless, the way she makes you feel both grounded and free. Her presence fills spaces in your heart you didnât know were empty.
As you may your way to her place, a soft smile tugs at the corner of your lips. Itâs funny how simply being with her, in her space, cuddling under the blankets, or sharing small moments of laughter, feels more like home than anything else ever has. When you knock on her door, sheâs already standing there, as if she already felt your presence from a block away; wrapped in a blanket, her hair falling messily around her face, and that familiar twinkle of mischief in her eyes. âYouâre late,â she teases, her voice a soft mixture of playfulness and a hint of relief. Ever since you both got together, Taraâs been more anxious, fearing that Ghostface might pop out and take you from her. Sheâs expressed her concerns to you, and youâve made sure to constantly remind her that you arenât going anywhere. âIâm not going anywhere, Taraâ youâre stuck with me, no matter what.â Besides, you donât mind constantly texting her and sending pictures of whatever youâre up to.
âLay with me? Please?â You fold almost instantly, allowing her to pull you into her bedroom while making sure to keep quiet, since Sam is asleep. Just as you settle onto her bed beside her, Tara does her little grabby hands and you pull her against you, her legs over yours and hugged your torso, resting her head and smiling into your shoulder, inhaling your scent as she had always associated you with safety. You smiled fondly, caressing her thigh with your hand before leaning forward to place a kiss on her forehead. Taraâs eyes fluttered at the gesture, and you can feel your heart soar at how adorable she is.
âI love you, so, so much. Did you know that?â You whispered close to her forehead. The warmth of your whisper sent a gentle shiver down her spine. âI know, but I donât mind hearing you say it again, and again..â You chuckled softly at her statement.
âI donât mind it either, because Iâll keep saying it; every day if I have toâ You smiled softly, the words lingering between you.
Before you could say more, she pressed her lips to yours, soft and gentleâthe familiar taste of strawberry from her lip balm making you sigh in content. The kiss was warm, comforting, like coming home. When she pulled back, her eyes fluttered open, a shy smile tugging at her corner of her lips. âI love you more,â she whispered, her breath mingling with yours.
It was safe to say that you didnât manage to finish your project anytime soon. But with Tara in your arms, you wouldnât have it any other way.

for a good cause | Rollo x reader
summary : While having fun at the festival with your friends, you're oblivious to your own guilt and grudge. Luckily, he's here to show you the truth.
warnings : reader is Yuu and she's implied to be a girl ; swearing
a / n : HAD LOTS OF FUN WITH THIS ONE Y'ALL WO!!! Yuu betraying the NRC my beloved. Also I was definitely NOT writing this AND watching the event at the same time and that's definitely NOT why is it so short haha...
A TOAST TO @pomefioredove FOR INSPIRING ME!! Hope you like it <3 đ«¶đ»đ©·
P.S : maybe some grammatical mistakes or weird wording, sorry, English ain't my first language :')
The horrors, the stress, the neglect about every single thing involving your mentality and your body... all of these curses that came upon you when you first set foot in the halls of Night Raven Collage could never be cured, could they? That's what you thought before you met him. He said he can save you...
Can he? Please, you have to let him save you...
The beautiful scenery in the main hall of Nobel Bell Collage never failed to catch your eye. The way the light of the sun illuminated the beautiful stained windows could never not be pretty. Compared to the dark halls of NRC, this school was twice as pretty, that's what you thought since coming here, but you'd never dare tell anyone, you didn't need another reason for people to look down on you as they always do.
âSomething must've caught your eye for you to stop in your tracks like that, no?â The voice coming from behind you was as calm and neutral as ever. You caught with the corner of your eye the figure stopping right next to you, looking where your eyes did just a moment ago. âWell, you're never wrong are you?â You let out a silent laugh, at which the figure moved his eyes in you. âThe glass...is beautiful. It never fails to amaze me. You don't see this at Night Ravenâ Your eyes went up to look at the glass again, the one next to you looking in the same place you were. âHm, your comments make me think that Night Raven Collage isn't that amazing of a school that everyone would die to go inâ You snorted at his snarky remark right before covering your mouth. You'd think he hates everyone from that school, but again, maybe he is, at how is looking at them, who can say he doesn't? âDidn't take you for the humorous type, Rolloâ
Ah there it is again. Ever since you came here, Rollo can't seem to get tired of the way his name rolls off your tongue. He's heard about you, the magicless prefect who's came from another world. And goodness, you're... perfect. Everything about you, is absolutely perfect. Your face, your voice, your silhouette, everything about you... and on top of all you're so... pure. So pure, he can sense it, the essence of it right in your soul, he wishes to keep it to himself forever, he'd never let anyone touch something so pure and beautiful. Stain it with their dirty magic.
He looked at you again, your form snickering oh so close to his body. âWas it really that funny? I was simply saying what is on my mind...â Your laughing came to a stop, now having your attention fully on him. âI know, it's just the way you said it is all. It was funny. And I mean, you are kind of right. Sure Night Raven is a big school, no denying that. But! I guess you could say the inside is a bit... boringâ At your words Rollo let out a laugh himself. âHmph! Boring? I've known you for a day and I'm sure you can find a better word than boringâ âMeh, I don't wanna be mean is allâ Your kindness was also something Rollo adored about you. He can see who you are under all that fake kindness you put on for your little friends at NRC. Right under all of that, the essence of your soul is naked under his praying eyes. He knows you're tired, tired of that school. Maybe he can use that for himself.
The songs and happy voices of the many people surrounding you were loud but not entirely unwelcome. After each group that was made earlier today finished their stroll through the busy streets, it was now time for everyone to gather in one place for the big show. You were currently sitting next to Rollo, watching from far away the boys who were having fun creating fireworks for the townfolk.
You couldn't help but scowl at the sight. It was so irritating, but why exactly...? âAre you alright?â Rollo's voice snapped you out of your thoughts. âJudging by that scowl on your face, I'd say you're ready to rip everyone's heads offâ You looked at him, he was looking at you from the corner of his eye, and just for a second, you caught a glint of amusement in them. He was joking. How is it that he only does it when he's with you? You've been observing his actions ever since you came here and he seems to be a totally different person when he's with you. The handkerchief that always seems to be present when he speaks with other people, he never has it when he's with you.
Isn't it weird?
You gave him a reassuring smile. âI'm ok. I just...well...â The silver haired boy turns his head to fully look at you, waiting for an answer âI just... don't like the loud music, at all. It always gives me the biggest headacheâ Rollo let out an almost silent hm, and looked in front of him again. A minute passed before he spoke again.
âWho are you trying to lie to? Me or yourself?â
...what?
The weight of his glace almost crushes you. You could feel his sharp emerald eyes looking at you, no... looking through you, you knew damn well that right now the one called Rollo Flamme was looking straight into your soul, ready to burn it to ashes at any moment.
You turned your head away from him, unable to return the gaze. âI... don't know what you're talking about, Rollo. I'm not lying to myself at all. I told you the truthâ He didn't stop looking through you. âIs that so? Because when your eyes are directed exactly to your little friends over there, it's hard to think that it's just the music that's bothering youâ You were at a loss of words.
He was right wasn't he?
He knew
Of course he did
After all why bother hide it anymore?
You hated their guts...
You HATED that school
You hate THEM
YOU HATE IT
YOU HATE THIS DAMNED WORLD.
This time, you looked him straight in the eyes. And he knew, Rollo finally realized he got it. He was almost shocked at how easy it was to crack your fake facade. You were like him weren't you? You hated magic just like he hated it. You loathed the evil-doers of this world, the magic users. He knew he was right, he knew he was right to fall in love with you.
He couldn't help but smirk when he saw your eyes. So much hatred. My, how he loved that look of yours. âAnd what do you plan on doing now?â Your voice took a much more serious tone than earlier. He simply let out a laugh. âMe? Why nothing at all. All I need you to do â Rollo fully turned his body to you, slowly leaning to look into your eyes â is to listen to what I have to sayâ
The music of the festival could be heard even from the depths of the wall of the waterway tunnels. Rollo was guiding you, with a lantern in his hand, through what seemed like an endless darkness. And after what seemed like an eternity, you were the first one who spoke. âSo what exactly do you plan on doing? You haven't explained anything to me at all Rolloâ He kept walking, not saying a word. More minutes passed and you were getting more and more annoyed, when was he going to- âWhy is it that you hate your friends so much? When I first saw you I could hardly tell you hated their gutsâ You fell silent at his question, why is it that you hate them? After all ever since you came here- ...oh, that's right. You know don't you? âYou want the truth? I'll tell you. I simply hate their guts. Ever since I came here I have been nothing but an obedient little dog to them. Cleaning all the mess they did after every overblot I was the one to clean the mess. Trouble? That idiot Crowley has me going to solve it. Students fighting? Of course, I'm the one to blame. I'm fucking tired, I'm so damn tired of all of them. No one, not a single one at that school has ever cared to check on me, because who cares?!? I'm a magicless student aren't I? I don't have feelings or anything right? I'm just a damn MAGICLESS HUMAN WHO LISTEN LIKE A FUCKING DOG!â
Rollo didn't flinch at the sudden punch you landed on the wall next to you. You stopped walking a while ago, fully turned to you, Rollo watched your actions carefully, seeming to enjoy how you slowly became a victim to your own hatred, sinking deeper and deeper into the dark hole you made for yourself ever since stepping into this world. Stepping closer to you, Rollo raised your chin to look him in the eyes, the light of the lamp allowing you to see his beautiful yet empty emerald eyes. âSee now? That's exactly why I guided you here. Your hatred for them is exactly what I need. So beautiful and so dangerous it isâ Moving closer, he grabbed your waist and pulled you closer to him, burying his face in your hair. âWhat are you?-â âSo pure and so beautiful you areâ You widened your eyes, your face growing warmer at his somewhat bold statement. He let go of you, grabbing your face once again, this time his being closer than it was before, the lamp illuminating half of his face as you saw the look in his eyes.
Predatory admiration. You could see it in the way he looked at you. Eyes burning with an intensity that sent shivers down your spine. Raw hunger that felt almost otherworldly.
âTell me now, Y/N. I can save you, get rid of all those dark thoughts from your head, give you a better life. I can protect you. All you need to do, is give me your word. Let me be your sanctuaryâ Your breathing became heavy...can he? Can he truly save you? You'd wished to escape this for so long, you're so tired. You'd let him-
âPlease, Rollo... â you grabbed onto his clothes, afraid that if you'd let go he'd abandon you just like the others â I'll- I'll let you. Please, be my sanctuaryâ Rollo's eyes flickered with raw desire. âVery well thenâ
The lamp in Rollo's hands dropped on the floor as his hand held your chin so you could look in his eyes. His other hand entangled into your hair, finally pulling you for a long awaited kiss. The moment his lips touched yours, every ounce of self control disappeared. He'd been waiting for this longer than he dared to admit. If only you knew what you were doing to him. You eagerly returned the kiss, your hands diving into his hair, careful to not let his hat slip off his head, lips moving in perfect harmony as you've done this hundreds of times before. And when you parted for the first time, your panting echoed through the dark halls.
You looked at him with red cheeks, and before you could stop it you let the words âI love youâ spill from your mouth. You knew your confession came out in a trembling voice, even if you didn't know why. Rollo looked at you and once again he kissed you, this time harder and urgent. He knew you knew he was telling you the same, that what he can't put into words he'll put into this kiss.
A long while passed until you two parted. Damned oxigen, you thought. The silver haired in front of you brought you closer to his face so that your foreheads touched. âHow can you be magicless when I can swear that you bewitched me somehow. I'm not myself when I'm with you, did you know that? The things you do to me...â You giggled at his remark, kissing him once more which he happily returned. âYeah? Well, I'm glad it's me. I'm glad you chose me Rolloâ He smiled softly at you, placing a kiss on your forehead.
Picking up the lamp from the floor, he took your hand and guided you now towards the light that shot up at the end of the tunnel. âCome now my dear, I'm sure you'll like what you're going to seeâ
The many candles in the Nobel Bell Collage hall illuminated brightly. The students who came for the symposium were all gathered in the hall, waiting for whatever was to come. Suddenly, the loud sound of the bell echoed through the whole school. âThe Bell of Salvation? At this time of the night?â Silver looked around him surprised by the tolls of the bell. âIf I recall, we were told that the bell tolled there times a day no? Once in the morning, then evening and night. And I'm pretty sure we heard the toll for the night some hours ago. So what could the reason for this one be? Riddle's face twisted in confusion, his brows furrowing trying to figure out what's going on. âU-uhm, am I the only one who's seeing t-that?â Upon hearing Idia's voice, everyone looked in his direction.âWhat's that? A flower??â In front of them, growing from the ground, there was a beautiful crimson flower, one that had its petals beautifully colored just like wild flames. âWhat's a flower doing in the middle of the-â *crack* Another one made its way through the floor, cracking the tiles in the process. And then another, followed by thousands slowly covering the whole hall. âWHAT IS THE MEANING OF THIS?â Sebek's voice echoed through the hall now full of crimson flowers. âEvreyone! They-they passed out!â In the blink of an eye, every single student who got close to the flowers had passed out cold and they couldn't be woken up.
Fire Lotuses. Dangerous yet beautiful flowers that supposedly went extinct centuries ago. These flowers grew by feeding themselves with magic, sucking it out of people leaving them with no ounce of magic to live with. The methods of extinction were not revealed, therefore there was no way to stop them.
âStanding in this hall while everyone else is passed at your feet is quite pitiful. Don't you think?â
Fighting and fighting, the students tried but there was no end to those flowers, if they can't use magic then they can't do anything. âY/N! Make sure you stay beh-...what?â Deuce had called for you, but he now realized...you were nowhere to be found. âY/N?!? NO! SHIT! WHERE ARE YOU?!â Hearing his calls, the others looked around them, you were nowhere in sight. âGRIM! Did you not see where she went?!?â Sebek picked up the panicked cat, who had thought you came back with him, your quietness being a normal thing at school so he didn't bother checking if you were truly there, blaming himself for your disappearance. âI-I don't know! I thought she was behind me I swear!â On the verge of crying he started shaking in Sebek's arms, the boy putting him down taking pity on him. âWE NEED TO FIND THE PREFECT NOW! AND SEE TO WHAT CAUSED THESE FLOWERS TO APPEAR!â Next to the loud green haired boy, Malleus was looking up the stairs in the hall. âHm, perhaps, we should ask himâ Sniffling, Grim looked in the direction of Malleus' eyes. âHim? Him who?â And just after, steps could be heard on top of the stairs, indicating who was watching from afar.
And there he was. The students looked at the stop for the stairs that now revealed Rollo's steady figure stepping out of the shadows. âYOU HUMAN! DID YOU DO THIS?â Sebek's voice boomed once again in the halls, at which Rollo merely laughed. âWhy? Well it's quite simple. I did so I can rid this world from this magic of courseâ âRiding the world of magic? THAT'S ABSURD!! You damn wicked villain!â âSHUT IT! â the first time Rollo's voice was raised, the halls trembled at the sound â ME?! I'M THE WICKED VILLAIN?? What about you? You mages tricking the world with your stupid little magic tricks?! You mean nothing but trouble! But I!- I will rid this world of your kind, making it a better place!â He laughed as he talked, the looks of the ones amongst the flowers now flaming with anger. âYou're a coward! Come the fuck down and face us if you're so determined of getting rid of us!â âNo time for that Deuce! â Riddle grabbed the first year's shoulder â we need to find a way to get rid of these flowers before their thorns find a way into the soilâ Another laugh from Rollo could be heard. âToo late for that! Just as we're speaking, the whole city is getting covered in flowers, and soon enough the whole island! You've got nothing left to do!â The flowers slowly started getting closer to them, leaving them helpless, just then, Deuce had realized what was missing from Rollo's speech. âYou- WHAT THE HELL DID YOU DO TO Y/N?!â Rollo's calm and collected eyes met Deuce's angry ones, smiling at his expression he let out a silent laugh. âHah! Ask her that yourself won't you?â
Step step step
One by one, the expression of the students went from anger to shock. You. It was you who was now next to Rollo standing straight and looking down on them from the stairs, the same flowers that were now surrounding them, was present in your hair. âY-... Prefect...?â Deuce couldn't believe it, what were you doing, what-what are you doing with him? âPrefect?! What do you think you're doing?!â Sebek's voice boomed once again. âYou're with the enemy you filthy traitor?!â Looking right back into Deuce's eyes seeing his despair, that didn't sit right with you, Deuce has never done anything wrong, but again, did he really care...?
âI truly am so sorry Deuce. You did nothing wrong, really. But I'm so tired you know?â âW-what is that even supposed to mean Y/N? Is it me? Did I do something wrong? I'm sorry if I did I'm sorry! But why would you do such a thing?â âBecause I can't take it anymore. I'm done, Deuce. I've been treated like a damn dog every second I stayed at that school. No one, not a single person has ever thought of checking up on me, seeing if I'm ok, not even you did. I needed to be saved, Deuce, and Rollo, Rollo told me he'd save me. And he did! I feel so much better now that he didâ Empty eyes were staring into scared blue ones. Deuce understood, in a way. And the fact that he hadn't even thought about checking on you earlier... maybe if he did none of this would've happened. âGrim. I really am sorry. This time I can't accompany you anymore. Seems like you'll have to become a great mage without meâ Shaking next to Deuce's legs, was a crying Grim. âHench-human...â
This time, the looks you gave to the ones left was boiling through them. âYou all deserve this. You all are some egoistic monsters you know that?â Malleus' steeped forward trying to reason. âChild of man this is not the-â âQUIET! You don't get to talk Malleus. You're just like them after all, you've always been haven't you?â Rollo was enjoying this too much. The expressions those idiots Night Raven Collage students had on their faces was priceless. But as much as he'd love to stay more, you both had work to do. âNow now Y/N. I'm afraid we have to go. We have work to do, rememberâ He put a reassuring hand on your shoulder, which you responded by putting one of yours in his. âEnjoy your last momentsâ
And with that, the floor around them was gone, leaving them to fall in complete darkness.

Drunk Call
warning: alcoholic beverages, being unconscious
characters: jude x reader
summary: when you call him in the middle of the night because you haven't gotten over the breakup
may contain spelling and translation errors!
It was a silent night in Madrid and Jude was sitting on the sofa in his apartment, his eyes fixed on the television, but not really paying attention to what was playing. His mind was somewhere else, or rather, with someone else. You. Since the breakup, things had never been the same for him. He knew he needed to move on, but how? When everything around him seemed to have your memories embedded in it? The sound of his cell phone interrupted his thoughts. He looked at the screen. It was you. His hand hesitated for a moment before answering, his heart pounding in his chest.
âY/n?
His voice came out cautious, almost fearful.
âJude... âYour tone was slurred, tearful, unmistakably drunk. âPlease, donât hang up.
He sat up straighter, a wave of worry taking over him.
âY/n, whatâs going on? Are you okay?
âNo... âYou sobbed, and he felt the lump in his throat tighten. âI... I'm horrible. I can't do this anymore. I can't live without you, Jude.
His heart sank. He wanted to tell you that he felt the same way, that every day without you was a constant struggle. But he knew you weren't in the right state to hear that right now.
âWhere are you?
He asked, trying to stay calm.
âAt home... âYou laughed humorlessly. âAlone, as always. Honey... can you come? I know I shouldn't ask this, but...
He was already grabbing the keys before you could even finish.
âStay there, okay? I'm going.
When Jude got to your apartment, the door was already unlocked, which only increased his concern. He walked in and found you sitting on the floor in the living room, holding a half-empty bottle of wine and with your eyes red from crying so much.
âY/n...
He approached slowly, kneeling in front of you.
You looked at him, your eyes watering, and suddenly started laughing.
âYou came. I can't believe you came.
âOf course I did. âHe put the bottle aside and held your face in his hands. âWhat's happening to you?
You shook your head, tears starting to flow again.
âI'm broken, Jude. I know I was the one who broke up, but... I didn't know it would be like this. I didn't know it would hurt so much.
He swallowed hard, feeling the weight of your words.
âSweetie, you're drunk. We should talk about this when you're better.
âNo! âYou held onto his shirt, almost as if you were afraid he would disappear. âI need to say this now. Jude, I love you. I've always loved you, and I was an idiot for thinking I could live without you.
Your words hit him like a punch to the chest. He loved you. He always had. And hearing it from you now, even in that state, made everything inside him want to scream that he felt the same way.
âY/n...
He started, but you interrupted.
âYou can hate me. You can ignore me tomorrow. But today, Jude, please, just hold me.
He couldn't resist. He pulled you into his arms, holding you tight, as if he could protect you from all the pain you were feeling. You cried against his chest, sobbing, as he ran his hand through your hair.
âI never hated you. âHe whispered. âNot for a second.
You pulled away just enough to look at him, your eyes shining with a mix of sadness and hope.
âThen stay... just for today.
Jude nodded, unable to deny you anything at that moment. He helped you up and took you to the bedroom, where you lay down, still holding his hand as if it was the only thing keeping you on the ground.
âWill you be here when I wake up?
You asked, your voice trembling, before closing your eyes.
He squeezed your hand gently, feeling a new wave of emotions rise within him.
âIâm not going anywhere, Y/n. I promise.
And that night, as you slept, he stayed by your side, watching you, fighting his own demons and wondering if, perhaps, you could still have a future together.

Introducing: What None Saw
As I'm finished writing and now just in the editing stage of the final chapters of She'll Wait No Longer, I have begun work on its prologue: What None Saw. This will be a dual-POV mostly canon-compliant multi-chapter Elriel fic leading up to ACOSF Solstice. I wanted to explore interactions with them that we didn't get to see in the first four books, and I've been having so much fun writing it. It's unfortunately not smutty, but a whole lot of mutual pining, angst, and fluff. We're talking a WHOLE lot of soooooooft Azriel and blushing Elain. Preview below ;)
đš: padawan.carol, commissioned by stephdaydreams
âAnother question?â Azriel asked her, as if he could sense that void still pulling on her. Elain nodded again.
Azriel considered for a few moments.
âWhat did you dream of becoming, when you were a child?â
Elain blinked. She gazed down into her tea again.Â
âI donât know,â she answered truthfully. âWhen my mother was still alive, she expected me to marry and unburden the family of my care, I suppose. Or perhaps bring them further fortune. I was only ever encouraged to think, act, and look like a highborn lady. I played the pianoforte, I learned to read and write with my tutors, and I attended society events. I was never told I could be anything other than a wife and mother.âÂ
A pang of guilt swept through Elain at the thought that Feyre did not get that chance to learn to read and write, and that she and Nesta had done nothing to teach her.Â
Azriel only watched her, impassive, so she continued.Â
âWhen we lost our fortune, I had no time to dream. I became quite skilled with sewing, as we could not often afford new clothes and ours always needed repairs. I gardened seldomly, only when I could afford seeds and had the time to. I helped keep our cottage in working repair and cooked in my fatherâs stead, because he was injured. The only thing I ever allowed myself to dream about was falling in love and marrying. Partially because it was something I desired, but also because it was a way out.â
Elain had never admitted any of this to another before, and she didnât know why she did now.
But Azriel just listened, so quietly and thoughtfully, and the words falling from her felt likeâŠa relief. A grounding. He listened to her without judgment or concern, only honest curiosity.
âWhat did you dream of becoming as a boy?â She asked him.
Azriel kept his cool, collected mask on his face, even as Elain swore she saw something flicker through his eyes.
âI had no dreams as a child.âÂ
Shame flooded Elain at what an insensitive question it was. Azriel had just told her he was locked in a dungeon for eleven years. Of course he wasn't thinking about becoming a warrior or a courtier or an artist. He was just trying to survive.Â
Azriel must have seen the guilt on her face because he considered.Â
âI suppose I dreamed of freedom.âÂ
Elain let out a breath.Â
âAs did I,â she answered.Â
Their gazes locked and they simply stared at each other for long moments.Â
âWhat is your favorite dessert?â Azriel asked her. Elain felt the smallest semblance of a smile tug at her mouth.Â
âDo you enjoy sweet things, Azriel?â She asked him, surprised once again by his question. She couldn't imagine the warrior eating a slice of chocolate cake or lemon tart.Â
Azriel grinned a bit, too. âI do enjoy sweet things, Elain,â he answered, holding her gaze with intensity.Â
And despite everything, despite her doomed engagement and the unfolding war and her stolen life and her daunting mating bond, Elain felt a blush kiss her cheeks.Â
She looked down, feeling bashful.Â
âStrawberry shortcake,â she told him.Â
Azriel grinned a bit broader at that.Â
âStrawberry shortcake,â he repeated, nodding thoughtfully. âI have never had that.â
âReally?â Elain asked. âIs it not eaten here?â
Azriel shook his head. âNo, I have never heard of it.â After a few seconds he added, âPerhaps I can try it one day with you.âÂ
Elain fought a blush once more.
âAnd you?â She asked, curious now.Â
Azriel leaned back, considering.Â
âHoney biscuits.âÂ
And despite herself yet again, Elain swallowed a laugh. Azriel raised a brow at her reaction, which made a true giggle escape her lips.Â
âI'm sorry,â Elain laughed.Â
Azriel's mouth twitched at her amusement. âWhat is it?â He asked her.
âItâs just,â she chuckled. âHoney biscuits are rather aâŠa youngling snack, are they not? A snack for a hungry toddler stomping his feet?â
Azriel chuckled a bit himself then, smiling truly. Shadows flitted around his head as if in response to his laughter.
"Yes," he answered, leaning back and crossing his arms. "I suppose they are."
Elain giggled once more. She imagined Azriel munching on honey biscuits in a secret Spymaster lair and laughed harder still.
"But can you deny their perfection?" Azriel asked her with an amused smile.
"No," Elain answered, shaking her head with a smile. "No, I cannot."
Azriel's smile seemed to falter as he gazed at Elain's face.
"That's the first time I've heard your laugh," he noted.
