Nothing can escape its reach in one piece. Except for some silly little comedian, who is directly behind him as of this very moment. "Hi! Can I show you something?" It turns around. From a long ways off flies a perfectly aimed toby dog, which bounces off of the large red button on the Wreck's back harmlessly, and then lets out a bunch of danmaku bullshit that presses it anyway. The glow behind its visor goes dark and the fans sin to a stop. Adam gracefully steps away from the Wreck as it slumps over in place, staying on its feet yet. He & Toby Fox share similar looks of joy & satisfaction at their accomplishment. The programmer is soon at his dog's side to take a closer look at the situation. Now they have time to figure out how to get what they want done. ...Well. It's a man, not a situation. There have to be ways to refer to the limp spillage of guts and blood, dangling recklessly from a hard steel chassis. There have to be better things to do to an animatronic imitation of a human's form than trying to get your inexperienced coding fingers in its body, its nervous system, its brain. His Soul. But it was Toby's idea to try fixing things. Isn't he going to do something?

So I have a got an angsty little Good Omens AU that’s been rattling around in my head and I’m kind of thinking of writing it, but I’m still not sure. Either way, I’ve gotta share this!

Angst ahead! Seriously, this AU is angsty enough that I had to fold it into the normal Good Omens verse to keep from drowning in the angst.

Here we go:

There is a universe; slightly adjacent to, but vastly different from the canon verse, where things went Very Wrong. Let’s call it the Nightmare Universe. Notably, neither Crowley nor Aziraphale appear to be present there.

The lords of nightmare Hell have learned that the Serpent of Eden still exists in the GO verse.

In the GO verse, Aziraphale discovers that Crowley has been snatched and taken to the nightmare verse, because the lords of that Hell thought that having the Serpent of Eden might be a useful tool in their hellish armory.

So with the use of some major miracling, Aziraphale crosses the boarder to the nightmare verse to rescue Crowley. Getting there is not so bad, but he has no idea how to track Crowley down once he’s there.

Eventually he finds a gifted local who says they can guide him to the Serpent of Eden. They take him to a desolate area just outside the ancient boarder of Mesopotamia, and there, still visible despite the shifting sands, lies the great and twisted skeleton of a massive serpent. Its bones are still intact, although cracked and bleached by the sun.

These bones are very old, the local tells him, and very sad.

Aziraphale is in shock to say the least, and cannot fathom how this could have come to be. Not in any universe.

The local then tells him the myth of these bones, and it becomes clear that all it took was one little change for the history Aziraphale knows to unravel into the story of this world...

The Serpent approached Eve near the Western side of Eden and enticed her to eat an apple from the tree of knowledge. She shared it with Adam, and when their disobedience was discovered they were cast out.

The Angel of the Western Gate drove them from the garden and out into the wilderness, where they had no warmth at night, no way to protect themselves, and no hope of returning to Eden with the way back guarded by the forbidding angel and its fiery sword.

The Serpent followed Even and Adam to offer them protection in the harsh world. After all, it had given them the ability to choose, to rebel, to know right from wrong. It had faith that these humans could build something greater than heaven had ever been, now that they had this ability. The first rain fell. It was a new beginning free of Eden.

The Serpent never once encountered the Angel of the Eastern Gate.

It stayed with Eve and Adam, guarding their family and watching it grow. It was content for a time, until the day came that Cain murdered Abel.

The Serpent was shaken. It had given humans the ability to know right from wrong, and this is what they did with it? It felt its faith grow cold, the seed of its optimism whither before it could truly sprout. The Serpent coiled around Abel’s grave, and waited. It resolved to stay there until humanity proved that giving them true choice was not a mistake.

It waited for ages, and with each passing generation of violence building on violence, its despair grew. It came to understand that humans would devise atrocities far greater than any demon, and regretted ever leading Eve to the apple. Still it waited, until one day the rains started, and did not stop. Not for forty days. It was a new beginning.

There it remained as the waters rose, biding its time between the grave and the floodwaters’ surface while it listened to the raindrops whisper of a world washed clean.

Maybe this time they would do better.

When the floodwaters receded, the Serpent was still there, waiting at the grave of humanity’s first murder victim and hoping there would never be another.

The day the first person was slaughtered following the flood, the last of the Serpent’s hope died with them. It rolled over, and willed itself to waste away...

Now, all that’s left of the Serpent in this world are its bones.

Of course, Aziraphale cannot accept that Crowley, any version of Crowley, could just be gone like that. So he does what no one else on this Earth could do; he calls him by name.

Not Crowley, this serpent never became Crowley, but Crawly.

Lo and behold, the bones still hold some life in them. But this is Crawly, who never met an angel that showed compassion. Who never had someone to commiserate with, to discover the world with, or to come to love humanity with all of its flaws with.

Crawly’s human shape is emaciated, skeletal thin, with cracked and scaly skin. He is bleached of all color like his bones, and his eyes are blinded; whether this is by the sun’s exposure, or his own desire to see no more of man-made suffering is anyone’s guess.

His body twists as if he believes he has spine in more places than it could actually fit, and he doesn’t even attempt to use his legs.

When he turns to face them, he sits like a snake faces the charmer; swaying unsteadily back and forth.

Aziraphale entreats him to help them and let them help him in turn. Crawly responds with more hiss than voice that it would be pointless, all things go to ruin.

Aziraphale begs him not to give up on humanity, but Crawly is fixated on one thing: They Know Better.

And that’s really all I’ve got! I don’t know where the Aziraphale of this nightmare verse is. Only a vague idea of how this Hell is trapping Crowley and how Aziraphale can save him. But I had to share the angst!!! (Also, @poplitealqueen and @thatdemonboi really need to never stop encouraging me!)

just a small list of fic recs

Earlier this morning my friends asked for some fake dating phan AU fics and I realized that making a fic rec list might be a good way to show some appreciation for fanfic author appreciation day!

I don’t have all day free like I wish, so I asked my friends for a few smaller catagories that I could shift through and find a few fics to rec from, that way I can get a good mix of fics for people to enjoy, and find as many authors as possible to thank! 

Of course, I can’t possibly have read every fic out there ever, so if you aren’t on here that’s no like, disrespect to you or anything. Every single person whose ever written and posted a fanfic deserves to be recognized and loved for what they’ve produce for us, so just know that I appreciate every single one of you, on or off this list!

To add to this, I tired to pick some older, or smaller works that people may have not seen before to give the authors a little lift if possible :)

Fake Relationship:

Our Threadbare Lies - @ramonaspeaks -  Dan is eighteen years old and newly single. He's ready to come out to his family but he thinks it would be a hell of a lot easier if he had a boyfriend to help him through it.

This is like one of my all time favorite fake relationship fics of all time. Honestly it was so well done and really realistic and the writing is just superb. I can’t even begin to tell you how many times I’ve re-read this fic, (as well as most of the authors other works) because it was just so well done, so thank you, thank you, THANK YOU to the author for all the hard work they put into it! On top of that, it holds really, really close to 2009 timeline (as we know it) and manages to make things work that might not have worked in their AU if they weren’t so smart about it

Maybe, Possibly - @cafephan -  Phil’s mother is adamant that he should be settling down, so invites one of his turbulent exes to an annual family get-together the following day. In a moment of panic, he tells her he’s already dating someone. With no other options, he turns to Dan.

aldjflkas I fucking love this fic so freaking much. I’ve read it like ten million times. Everytime it shows up on my dash I open it to read it again. It’s just really funny and sweet in a strange way, and captures an essence of dnp that I really enjoy. I like how easy it is for dnp to pretend to be together in this fic, and how easy it is for them to then transition to ACTUALLY being together. It’s the perfect kind of non-dramatic get together fake relationship AU ever and I really, really do love it. Again, massive thank you to the author!

friends dont treat me like you do - @internetakeover (i think i got your @ right) -  Why had Dan agreed to this? Pretending to be Phil’s boyfriend at his ex’s wedding had seemed like a nice idea at first, a way to meet some of Phil’s old university friends while helping him avoid humiliation, but already Dan’s on edge. If Dan allows himself to relax for a day, lets himself watch Phil as much as he wants, touch Phil as much as he wants, carry on their flirtatious banter when normally he’d laugh it off... he’s worried about what Phil might see.

I ended up re-reading this after I stumbled across it again just now hahaha I really love this fic. It’s super cute and a little sappy cause WEDDING FIC but that’s what makes it so worth the read. I love that both Dan and Phil realize how easy their relationship is, and the fact that they’ve technically been dating for a long time and that they love each other. I love that they realize this the way that they do, and it just makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside, so thank you so much to the author <3

Asexuality

Between Us - @winteredspark who doesnt appear to have a tumblr :( - "I think I'm asexual," Dan breathes against the crook of Phil's neck, blinking back tears.There's a pause, then -"Nice to meet you, asexual. I'm Phil," says Phil.

This is the asexual fic that helped me to realize that I’m asexual and that asexuality is a spectrum that isn’t limited to one version or another. I remember leaving a really long thoughtout comment to the author but I can’t not rec it here as well. It’s just such an amazing asexuality fic and it’s a little bit of a different take not it considering the character exists on a different part of the spectrum than most ace fics portray. I will always be grateful to this author for this fic!

let’s save up for something new - @deletablebird -  Phil wakes up shivering the morning of October 19th, 2009. Today is the day he meets Dan. Fluff, 3.5k

I love this author with my whole heart and I’ve read everything they’ve written lol. This is just a really, really cute and lovely take on 2009 with the asexual aspect included and it really made my heart happy, so thank you so so much for this fic!

Theater

Disguises - @ramonaspeaks -  Phil auditions for a play at a local theater and meets Dan, who spends most of his time acting whether he’s on stage or off.

Again, another fic from one of my favorite authors of all time. This is like my actual favorite theater au of all time. I am completely in love with the whole thing. It feels so real, and their characters are so well fleshed out, and each scene is just actually fantastic. I solidly recommend this one and I am soooo thankful to the author for bringing it into existence!

just touched down in london town - @phanetixs - "Hamilton is actually really nice and the plot is very interesting and okay, well, there’s this guy."In which, London is not as bad in the summer, a cute guy dies considerably in Act III and Phil has actually lucked out for once.

Look not only do I stalk all of this authors fics, but this is one of my all time favorites of theirs. They managed to take an idea that almost seems ludicrous and make it into something not only super hot, but super realistic and really, really, really fun. I absolutely adore this fic and I give you all the kudos my wonderful author. Thank you for writing such a wonderful au!

Which as they kiss, consume - @irrevocablys which for some reason it wont tag you :( -  Dan’s an aspiring actor, and Phil’s so over studying Romeo and Juliet.

This was one of my first theater au’s and I truly adore it. its just like got this super cute undertone to it thats incredibly wonderful? I just love the way the characters interact and the ease and flow of the writing <3 thank you for giving us something so beautful

Supernatural Elements

Ride with the moon in the dead of night - @mooksie01 -Phil seriously needs to buy some allergy medicine or something. Or at least open a window next time he performs a demonic ritual. He wouldn't have thought that one little sneeze could've messed up a spell so bad, but now he has a demon on his hands and only six days to get rid of it before he's stuck with it forever....And maybe the demon is acting like a total cinnamon roll, but Phil is positive that it's all just an elaborate ruse.

ajdlsfkjasdlkjfls omfg I love this fic so much. I actually adore fics with supernatural elements in them and this is one of those fics that always stands out to me. It’s just really hilarious and well written and is just overall a fun take on witch phil. I just, i really love it, and I’m so grateful it exists. Thank you wonderful author <3

Reflections of the Heart - @butterflyphil - “Being told to dress up in a dinosaur onesie and have cereal catapulted at your face is a little odd. Waking up to find that you and your best friend have switched bodies? That’s fucking bizarre.”(Or, the multi-chaptered, slightly smutty bodyswap fic that no one asked for. Featuring whiny/annoying!Dan, sassy/beguiling!Phil, unintentional innuendos, intentional innuendos, unnecessary kitchen supplies, and just a pinch of magic).

UHM, THIS IS ONE OF MY FAVE FICS? Lol. I just really freaking love body swap fic and you did such a good job with this fic. it’s honestly just super fun and a little hot and really cute and beautiful overall. I really just, really cant thank you enough for this fic and rec it really really highly!

Vampires & Werewolfs

High - @icandigelvis -  Just the ordinary story of Dan and Phil, except one little detail. Phil isn't human in this one. Expect biting, bickering, playlist live, blood, bad jokes and sex.

ajdslfkjasl listen I love vampire fic and this one is just so good. it’s so true to dnp’s personalities and just like, accurate to who they’d be tbh. And like, the fact that it sticks so close to reality aside from the vampire difference is what makes it even better so thank you so much to the lovely author for writing it. It’s everything I ever needed and more from a vampire fic

Taking Every Chance I’ve Got All - @nagirci - Dan wanted was to get drunk, really. Have a good time, meet a few new people. He didn’t really think about getting involved with someone as dangerous as Phil Lester (someone as cold, as pale and, well, as not alive), and he definitely didn’t think that one trip out to a bar would change his life forever.

This is like a really older fic that’s from one of the first phandom big bangs but it’s one of my first favorite vampire fics of all time as well and it’s just. really good and really well thought and the collaboration work on it is incredibly flawless. I honeslty would tell anyone to read it at any time because it comes together so well

Sharp Teeth - @theshyauthor -  AmazingPhil is a Youtuber and a vampire and according to Dan Howell, he is the nicest person to exist. From their first meeting in 2009 all the way to that one incident in the elevator at the BBC, this is their story.

Again this is just such a good take on 2009 and the reality of dnp with added vampirism tossed in. Plus the author is a beautiful wonderful person and I really enjoy their writing so its a total please go read this kind of fic x3 Thank you darling for writing something so wonderful <3

be sure to ring the doorbell - @frostbittencheeks -  Dan’s a tired sports reporter, Phil’s a friendly vampire with no real sense of boundaries and a propensity for bad Dracula jokes as well as leaving his unconscious victims in Dan’s kitchen. This isn’t how Dan thought courtship goes, but he’ll take it.

Can you tell I love vampire fics? This one is so well done, I literally re-read it constantly. I love the whole idea behind it, specifically the fact that Phil’s version of courtship is literally ridiculous and he doesn’t even think that they need to talk about it hahahaha I just love how funny and adorable it is and it’s just totally worth a few minutes of your time

a puppy sort of love - @symmetricdnp -  Dan's supposedly a werewolf. Phil has doubts.

I honestly want to beg this person to write me more of this fic cause the permise is just that good. There are so few werewolf fics in the phandom, and especially ones that are this cute, thoughout , and well written. I absolutely adore this fic and I totally rec it to all of you. The author is wonderful, thank you so much for writing this fic <3

Okay but like this story always sticks out in my memory and I think on it often. It’s one of my all time favorite soulmate au’s and blind au’s, because it was just structured so well and the characters make your heart fall for them really, really fast.  “We’ve just received reports of a body discovered just a few meters south of Ilsan Bridge.  Officials from the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency have yet to release an official statement but many are speculating. Could this be another victim of the recent serial murders in the city? Is the same group responsible for these heinous acts of violence? Stay with us as we…..”

    Inseong sighed, closing the tab with the live news footage of the newest body; the sixth one. There hadn’t been any new or useful information, not that news reporters were ever helpful to begin with. Tapping away at the keys, Inseong’s eyes darted back and forth between three different monitors (he really had five but two of them were strictly used for surveillance purposes), several windows popping up only to be discarded a second later.

    I need to find the connection he thought. Normally Inseong wouldn’t bother with such child’s play, but evidence had been found at the scene of the third murder. Evidence, that for some reason or another, had implications of the Red Dragons. Youngbin had been beyond furious when he’d found out and immediately ordered everyone to find the bastard that was trying to frame them. All of them, minus Chani, had left to meet up with various clients in hopes of gathering intel as well as reassuring them that the Red Dragons had nothing to do with it.

    Chani had offered to stay behind to help Inseong do research on the digital side, especially since he wasn’t a particular fan of field work. Inseong glanced to his right and smiled at the sight of Chani typing away furiously on the laptop he’d gotten him as a Christmas gift. Inseong was proud of how quick a learner Chani was, and admittedly having an extra pair of eyes really helped.

    Turning back to his monitors, Inseong typed out a series of codes and fed them into several different database systems, watching as multiple digital copies of case files, criminal profiles, and CCTV footage appeared across his screens. It would take hours to read through everything in detail, and then they’d have to skim through all the video footage.

    Inseong swiveled his chair around so that he was now facing Chani. The youngest had been looking into autopsy reports and lab analyses of the evidence in hopes of finding something that the officials had potentially looked over. “Chani.”

    “Yeah?” Chani replied, tilting his head slightly in acknowledgement, eyes still fixed on his screen.

    “I’ve pulled up all the case files, profiles, and video footage from SMPA’s database. Can you look over the criminal profiles for me and see if anyone stands out to you. Cross reference it with our database of clients and check bank deposits and withdrawals within the past eight months. Whoever’s trying to frame us knows our methods and if they’re smart enough they would have hired someone else to do all the dirty work. If that is the case I want to know who.”

    “Got it. I’ll run them against cell phone towers and GPS satellites to see if any of them were in the vicinity of the crime scenes at any given time.” Chani looked up from his laptop this time. “We’re not going to lose anything because of this are we?”

    “No we won’t. Not if I can help it.” Inseong said, turning back around. He’ll be damned if he let someone ruin his family like this. He’d do whatever it takes no matter the cost.

    “Hey Inseong.”

    “Hm?”

    “One of the reports I’m reading mentions that the most important evidence was a key witness who saw the entire fourth murder happen.”

   “And? The witness was most likely hired as well.”

    “Well here’s the thing. There’s no mention of this witness anywhere else. All I have is a grainy shot of their face and that’s it. No name no nothing, and all of the other reports make it seem as if this witness doesn’t even exist. Heck, there’s even a missing chunk of time in the CCTV footage for the fourth murder. Which doesn’t really make sense because if the person framing us wants us to take the fall for the murders wouldn’t they want their witness at the stand testifying against us? Unless…”

    “Unless the witness was just someone in the wrong place at the wrong time and saw everything.” Inseong turned back to Chani so fast he almost spilled his coffee. “That means this witness is the key we need to find out who’s behind all of this. Chani send me the picture.” 

    Within seconds Inseong was enhancing the photograph, tapping his fingers against his desk impatiently as he waited. He didn’t recognize the girl, but finding out her name would be as easy as counting to three. It would take several minutes for his system to run facial recognition against everyone currently in Seoul, and that’s with location filters. Turning back to the other case reports, Inseong searched for any mentions of a witness, or a name that didn’t quite belong. He clicked through report after report, so much that his eyes were burning slightly.

    He’d just clicked through another one when he noticed something. One of the names in the report seemed familiar, almost as if he’d seen it before. Going backwards a few, Inseong finally found what he was looking for. The same name had appeared in another report, one where the public version had the name blacked out. At the same moment facial recognition beeped, but Inseong already knew who to look for as he grabbed his jacket and left, already tapping away on his phone.

    You were scared shitless to say the least. Who wouldn’t be after witnessing a man dispose of a body? Of course you’d tried explaining to the police, but when that one specific man questioned you in the precinct you knew something was off.

    “So miss, you say you saw a man dump a body into the river?”

    “Yessir.”

    “And you’d be able to point him out in a line up perfectly? Without a shadow of a doubt?”

    “Yessir he was directly under a streetlight so I saw his face and everything he-”

    “And you’re sure it wasn’t any of these gentlemen?” He’d handed you nine photographs of  different boys, all of whom you didn’t recognize.

    “No sir it wasn’t any of them.”

    “You’ve been through a great ordeal. Perhaps the shock is hindering your thought process at the moment. Rest for a bit, I’ll be asking you again shortly. I’m sure you saw one of these gentlemen.”

    You’d left after that, feeling extremely uneasy. Why had that man been so adamant on you identifying one of those boys? How were they even involved? Whatever was going on, it was much bigger than you had anticipated, and you didn’t want one part of it, even though something in the back of your mind already knew that there was no escaping now.

    Hurrying down the street, you figured you’d stop for some food from one of the many street vendors before heading to a friend’s place to stay for the evening. After seeing what you saw, you really didn’t want to be alone.

    Turning a corner, you let out a small squeak as you ran into someone, nearly falling backwards before a pair of hands gripped your waist, preventing you from landing on your ass. You opened your eyes slowly, embarrassed beyond recognition. The boy you had run into was much taller than you had anticipated and you found yourself craning your neck upwards to see his face.

    Cute. Was the first thought in your mind, causing a small blush to creep up your cheeks. Light chestnut colored hair poked out from underneath a black beanie, the tips just barely brushing against his eyes. His eyes. As you looked at him you couldn’t help but shiver. Something about his expression made it seem as if he knew everything about you; knew all the secrets you might have had.

    “[Y/N] is it? Listen we need to ta-”

    “How do you know my name?!” You broke free of his grasp, taking several steps backwards.

    “Listen I can explain just-” The boy glanced around. “We can’t talk here it’s not safe.”

    “Not safe? Just who are you?” Your eyes widened as realization struck you. “You’re one of the boys from the photographs.”

    “Photographs?” He frowned, clearly not enjoying this piece of news. He looked as if he had been about to say something else but was cut off by his earpiece. “What direction?”

    You watched as he looked past you, towards the opposite side of the street. Turning, you saw a group of men making their way towards the two of you. As they walked, the wind blew back their coats slightly, allowing you to see the sunlight reflecting off the metal. “Oh my god they have guns!”

    “[Y/N] listen I need you to trust me right now please. It’s for your safety. Those men are here to either kill you or bring you to a place you really don’t want to be at. My brothers and I can help you I swear on this.” He held out his hand and for a moment you couldn’t register anything. How could so much happen in less than twenty four hours? How could a simple walk at night lead to all of this?

    “But, I don’t even know who you are, how can I possibly trust you?”

    “Look me in the eyes and tell me if you think I’m lying within the next ten seconds we have before those guys cross the street.

    You did so, and even though every part of your body screamed danger, you knew he was being genuine. Besides you needed answers to what happened at the precinct, and this boy was your best chance. Taking a deep breath, you slipped your hand into his. “Can I at least know your name?”

    He paused, as if calculating the risks in his mind before looking at you again.

    “Inseong. Kim Inseong”

    And with that, the two of you took off running.

Apathy Grimm! Blake AU Concept

Did I make a Tumblr blog just to make this post? Yes, yes I did, but the concept stuck in my head so I wanted to write it out.

NOW I love Blake, hence you see the name of this blog but I started think of this a bit more when I was thinking about the Apathy Grimm and all sorts of spooky potential for this.

Warning for character death in this scenario, but this is just me spouting off an alternate scenario to the Apathy Confrontation which then changes the end of Volume 6. It’s therefore gonna slightly spoil some things so if you somehow have yet to see the end of Volume 6, don’t read. This is purely for me to get the idea out my head before I forget it, and also cause I’m in the mood for angst.

SO.

Everything happens as normal up until ‘Alone In The Woods’. Team RWBY and Maria are in the basement. The Apathy continues to scream at them. Blake goes down. Ruby flashes her silver eyes, however when the power fades and the Apathy have backed off slightly -

She sees Blake isn’t there anymore.

The scene carries on the same. Maria helps Ruby with her eyes, Yang breaks open the cellar door. The only difference is...Blake doesn’t escape with them. In the blind panic to get out of the farm house, The rest of the group don’t realise Blake didn’t make it out until the farm house is in flames. Struck with fear, panic, and having to keep forcing Qrow to go on, the group reluctantly leave since they have no other means of fighting off this enemy right now.

But Blake isn’t dead.

Oh no she isn’t dead. Among the debris and the flickering cinders, Blake’s will is being feasted upon by the Apathy. She’s in a state where she can’t fight, she can’t run...and she doesn’t even care. But unlike the members of the farm who probably never unlocked a semblence or had a strong enough aura, Blake doesn’t just ‘die’. She becomes something far worse. She essentially becomes a husk of herself, drained of her will but now drawn to the very strong negative emotions of her former team fleeing from the farm.

She’s become a Grimm. Blake is now a weird hybrid of Faunus and Grimm - for the most part she appears the same, save for her skin now being deathly pale as well as her eyes being completely black without a slither of colour still there, as well as wisps of black smoke lingering from her body. Leaving the ruins of the farm, she slowly begins to track down the rest of the group, the rest of the Apathy dragging behind her.

Fast forward to the attempt to shut down the radio tower. Yang goes on her own instead and SHE is the one confronted by Adam. He doesn’t exactly know what happened but he knows at some point in their journey, Blake is suddenly not in the group. He tries to use this to taunt Yang as they fight, goading her over the fact that of course Blake would never stay by her side - Blake is a coward after all. Yang is barely keeping Adam at bay when she sees someone near the waterfall where they are fighting.

Adam thinks its Yang getting her shakes again and he’s preparing a Moonslice when slowly he feels his hand become lax, he isn’t sure why. Why doesn’t he want to grab at his weapon? Yang is right there, he can finish her off - then he hears it.

“Adam”

Instead of the horrid wail of an Apathy, Grimm!Blake’s voice sounds like several different versions of her speaking at once - whispering, sobbing, screaming. All at once they say his name and Adam isn’t sure what to think. He had been determined to have his revenge against Blake, all this torment in this heart, this rage and spite he had ready to unleash on her - he feels none of it now. The more she calls his name, the less he feels. Its dying in his chest. Yang realises what is happening and she does her best to stay out of range of Blake’s call.

Blake doesn’t even walk, her body just slowly hovers forward toward the now will lacking Adam, the claws and bodies of the rest of the Apathy now following behind up the cliff face. She is still calling his name in that twisted voice and the closer she gets, Adam drops to his knees, he can’t even reach his weapon. Blake plucks away his blindfold, he doesn’t even resist as his good eye barely focuses on her. Despite knowing what is going to happen, Yang can’t tear her gaze away - until Blake’s black gaze meets hers.

In that brief moment, she thinks Blake is giving her an out. Blake is giving her a chance to end both their nightmares once and for all. Whether this is all in Yang’s head, whether Blake is still somewhere in there, she knows this is her only chance. Yang aims her bike toward both Faunus, shooting it just as it plows into them and the hoard of Apathy, causing an explosion. The Apathy scream, Blake howls...Adam doesn’t make a sound.

Yang runs. She doesn’t look back, she fights back tears as she runs to join her sister. She doesn’t know if the nightmare is really over. She’ll keep it with her, even if its behind her. She won the battle but she didn’t win the war.

Not now and nevermore.
