SPOILERS FOR S2 E3
Fully on board wesley kirk now! I loved this episode so much! Classic time travel episode, classic Kirk gets-the-girl! Another iteration of Khan! This is the first ep i think ever rewatched immediately after.
P.S A+ marketing for having the going-in-the-past episode released two days early

i must admit that turnabout intruder is one of my problematic faves too.
if you feel like elaborating, i’d love to hear your takes!!
I would absolutely love to elaborate! To preface this I’m exceptionally bad at writing out my thoughts so apologies if this is a little all over the place. Also this got way longer than I expected and I still don’t feel like I covered all my thoughts so sorry for the super long reply.
The tl;dr is that I think the episode is trying to show us, in Star Trek’s exaggerated way, that experiencing misogyny and internalizing is bad and that is the fault of the how society treats women and not, you know, women.
I’ve only seen the episode once so I think I definitely need to watch it again to fully sort out my thoughts. For some context I recently did a full tos watch, I mostly watch tng as a kid and a few random tos eps, and as I was making my way through I thought a lot about how the like for what makes something socially progressive shifts over time. There are a lot of episodes and themes that we have to look at through the culture context of the late sixties.
That being said I think one of the places tos, and basically every other show, really falls short is how it understands and represents gender. For me this is most clear in how every alien has the same understanding of sex and gender as humans but that is for a separate rant. This is about gender by way of misogyny. So without further ado here is my defense of turnabout intruder.
Before I watched turnabout intruder my understanding of it was that it was bad in the not well written way and bad in the misogynistic way. I think it’s important to know that I do not think this episode is free of misogyny, few tos episodes are, but I think if we all up on our critical thinking caps we can see that there is *gestures vaguely* something worth talking about.
When I finally watched it I was expecting it to be much more misogynistic than it was so I really psyched myself up, but I genuinely don’t think it makes it on my top three most misogynistic tos episodes. The only part that really made me cringe was when Scotty is talking to Bones about how he’s never seen Kirk so hysterical. I think that the use of the word hysterical is totally unnecessary to what Scotty is saying and only serves to make that line overtly misogynistic.
I think the thing that makes me not label Janice’s who character as just a poorly hysterical woman who’s purpose in the narrative is to remind us that women aren’t fit to lead because of emotions or whatever is that, at least to me, she seems more complex than that. The thing that leads me to believe that the writers had some idea what they were doing is how Janice clearly has the most intense case of internalized misogyny I may have ever seen.
The episode doesn’t want us to come away from it believing women aren’t fit to lead because they’re emotional. It want us to understand that misogyny is so poisonous that a lifetime of experiencing it can drive you to hate yourself so much that, in the case of Janice you would do nothing short of murder to escape it.
I was going to add a bit at the end about Kirk as a victim of abuse but I can’t organize my thoughts about that very well right now. Other people have written much more eloquent post about this, but I’ll say that the thing that stuck with me is that his masculinity is never brought into question. No one on the ship thinks less of him because a woman hurt him and I think, although it’s not the focus of the episode, it’s something that’s important to mention.
I have somehow managed to leave out all of my transgender thoughts from this so perhaps if I have the energy for that at some point I will make a part two with that.

deep space 9!
ok here we go:
blorbo (favorite character, character I think about the most)
it used to be odo but now by far sisko, mainly because the benny russell plotline is my absolute favorite star trek plot ever. is he sisko or benny.... if he ascended to the prophets or whatever did he create benny?? if benny russell was a real author in strange new worlds... what does that mean. "you are the dreamer and the dream" is rotating in my microwave brain constantly. odo is still my emo repressed babygirl though.
scrunkly (my “baby”, character that gives me cuteness aggression, character that is So Shaped)
if couples count, worf and jadzia. yes they can and have gotten away with murder yes i still want to put them in a little jar on my desk. they're legitimately one of the best written tv couples ever. worf is the wife and jadzia is the husband though
scrimblo bimblo (underrated/underappreciated fave)
damar, im not saying hes a good person or anything but his arc was so interesting to me and he did have his very good moments at the end
glup shitto (obscure fave, character that can appear in the background for 0.2 seconds and I won’t shut up about it for a week)
rom and leeta. roms development was also SO good and leeta is the cutest side character ever i love her. like star trek does not get better than wimpy alien man finding his passion for engineering and falling in love with his hooters waitress wife who helps him form a union. that was peak cinema
poor little meow meow (“problematic”/unpopular/controversial/otherwise pathetic fave)
i cant think of a character that's necessarily unpopular... maybe lwaxana?? i know she was like a minor villain in tng but i loved her in that ep where she hung out with alexander, and her friendship with odo later on in the show was actually super cute to me. she is a queen idc what tng says. headcanon she's still like alexanders cool aunt and worf is very tired.
also near the end... kai winn?? i do not like her or think she was a good person at all but i did feel bad for her for maybe two seconds near the end. i dont know she spent her life wanting to talk to god only for some alien guy to become emissary so while shes evil and i hate her i kinda have pity for her so shes my meow meow idk
horse plinko (character I would torment for fun, for whatever reason)
dukat for sure. i would drop dukat in hot soup. definitely the best written star trek villain though and marc alaimo is such a good actor, every time i watch a dukat ep im like how does alaimo act so well that i genuinely hate this man with a passion
eeby deeby (character I would send to superhell)
kai winn. i know i just said shes my meow meow but i hate her i hate her. same thing with marc alaimo though, louise fletcher was such a good actor that for 45 minutes i hated her like she was real dude

Fave color: hmm I've been into jewel tones lately. Like sapphire and emerald.
Currently reading: i fucking wish i was reading. i keep staring at my copy of Under the Whispering Door by TJ Klune and I'm trying to will the energy to read into existence.
Last song: The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face by Gordon Lightfoot. I was listening to my current favs playlist.
Last series: To My Star 2! It was decent. I liked the first season and I think there were interesting character and relationship development choices in the second.
Last movie: oh god i cant remember the last movie I watched.
Currently working on: I currently have 7 kimchay fics I'm working on cndjkcdsjk.
1.) A canon divergence fic where when Porsche calls Porchay in the Side Story/Ep 7, he decides to tell Porchay the truth and bring him to the main family house. I just really want to play with the idea of Chay trying to keep a secret from Kim but Kim knows the truth but if Kim calls him out then Chay will know that he was lying. 2.) A fic where the Kittisawad's and the Theerpanyakul's grew up together. And Chay leaves for a year and half to study abroad and when he comes back Kim has a crisis because "oh no chay got HOT" 3.) a part three to my virginity series where Kim bottoms for the first time. 4.) a fic where I project my thirst for Kim's fighting skills onto chay. 5.) A fic im calling "Everyone's Oh Moment" where the main cast all realizes how serious Kim and Chay are about each other. 6.) an untitled fic where so far it's just Porchay and Porsche finally actually talking about their issues. 7.) an abo fic with omega kim and alpha chay (don't judge me I'm being bullied (lovingly) into writing it).
Share 10 different favorite characters from ten different pieces of media in no particular order, then tag 10 people 🎥🎬📺
1.) Kim Theerpanyakul from KinnPorsche (who is shocked he's here) 2.) Pat Jindpat from Bad Buddy 3.) Prapai from Love in the Air 4.) Lan Wangji from MDZS/The Untamed 5.) Morrigan from Dragon Age 6.) James Kirk from Star Trek 7.) Will Byers from Stranger Things 8.) Abigail from Stardew Valley 9.) Nick Nelson from Heartstopper 10.) Ann Takamaki from Persona 5
I tag @xillanelle, @pcrrycox, @jeffsaturr, @alwaysandforeverlost, @daethsticks, @andherra, @katebushgirlfriend, @vegussy, @backhand-of-the-divine and @vaughndotexe

Oh yeah, DS9 is my fave series overall in terms of actually good writing, but I can't not love all the ridiculous bad Star Trek episodes like Threshold and the one TNG ep where they turn into kids for some reason. Like my first big original story that I wrote when I was like 8 was about evil alien cabbages invading the Earth, so basically cheesy terrible sci fi is my true first love.
there's also that one in TNG i think where they get that disease that makes them revert back to their pre-evolution selves and i just
star trek can really bring on the emotions- "The Inner Light" being one of my favorite sci-fi episodes in anything ever, but sometimes, sometimes?

sometimes its nothing but tribble

we know that bobby only watched ds9 and dean watched the tos movies for sure which implies he's seen tos as well (plus he calls jack spock). so what do you think everyone's favorite trek is? sam is without a doubt a tng fan first and foremost. i think out of all tos movies cas prefers the wrath of khan because he Feels Things when kirk and spock do the ta'al through the glass. charlie has definitely seen some trek (we've seen her llap), do you think she's into tos first and foremost? anyway let's talk about star trek nights in the bunker.
OKAY SO I HAVE. MANY MANY THOUGHTS ABOUT THIS. SORRY THIS IS SO LONG.
like. like of COURSE bobby only likes ds9 of course he does i could have told you this without the show becuase like. bobby is That Bitch. i think rufus will have watched TOS at least because leonard nimoy worked hard on linking jewish faith and practices into the vulcan lore and i think that would mean something to him. bobby will catch rufus smiling at him sometimes while they’re watching ds9 and ask him what all gruffly and rufus will smirk at him and say something about sisko with jake and bobby with dean and bobby will just cough and take a swig of whiskey and rufus will raise his eyebrows but let it slide. rufus definitely makes a comment once about dean&cas being like jake&nog that totally flies over dean’s head but bobby is all knowing eyebrow raise about.
i think cas and jack would really like discovery. while it has some issues with inconsistency, pacing, being a little dark, it also does better than the other TV treks at utilising the nature of film as a medium to instill a sense of wonder, at space and the world, and that’s something they’d really appreciate. i have my own issues with disco, but an obol for charon is as close to the central core of trek that disco ever gets. cas and jack also like that one in particular because they like listening to all the different languages being spoken. they all love michael (everyone loves michael). cas’ faves are stamets and reno because they’re mean and gay, jack’s fave is tilly because she’s excitable and bright and he latches onto that. dean likes reno because she’s got spunk. sam’s fave is airiam and he will never forgive them for killing her off. sam, cas and dean all feel an uncomfortable kinship with both ash and culber - they’ve both been the one with monster teeming under the surface, controleld by something not themself, but they’ve also all spent that time in hell/purgatory, separated from everyone they love.
thinking about episodes that would really get to them all, darmok is. THE ONE. i have a whole unfinished essay about darmok as the platonic ideal of star trek; the perfect distillation of everything trek is SUPPOSED to be about. it doens’t always get there but by god it tries! that speech michael gives in the disco s2 finale - “There's a whole galaxy of people out there who will reach for you. You have to let them. Find that person who seems farthest from you and reach for them.” - that’s what darmok is about!!! it’s all about a situation where real communication seems impossible, where everything we know about talking and learning has broken down. and picard says, okay, i will find another way. i can’t relate to you, you can’t relate to me, but by god i’m going to try. we all meet people we have trouble communicating with in our lives, and often, those people will not care about changing their own ways to accommodate us. for people with autism, adhd, psychosis, the list goes on, this is a very common occurrence. it’s exhausting and frustrating and alienating. darmok is all about crossing that barrier. about reaching for someone through a world of difficulty and learning how to talk. learning how to share something with someone who seems out of our reach. it’s beautiful, it’s heartwrenching, it means more to me than i can easily put into words!
anyway i think the bunker fam would experience a lot of emotions watching it together. there’s defintiely a lot of hugging eachother, sam cries a lot and won’t look at anyone until after the episode ends. jack just asks a lot of questions and talks about his progress learning sign language with cas. dean snakes his hand into cas’ halfway through and doesn’t let go. doesn’t show the emotion on his face, but he clutches harder at the emotional beats. cas runs his fingers through jack’s hair and thinks a lot, and decides not to say anything unless dean talks first. its just a Lot for everyone.
dean def makes them marathon all the TOS and TNG movies. it’s an experience everyone needs at least once. i think you’re right about cas and TWOK with the ta’al through the glass, but also ‘this simple feeling’ and the hand hold would make him feel crazy. bones being the one that spock entrusts with his katra DEF makes dean feel some type of way because as much as destiel is kirkspock-coded, dean IS bones, and seeing spock trust bones so completely despite how at odds they were when they first knew eachother would dig deep into dean’s psyche and make him more than a little bit nutso. the movies are way too long for jack so he mostly sits and plays animal crossing while they watch and looks at the screen when everyone else gasps or when something exciting is happening that holds his attention for a while. sam’s fave is nemesis precisely because it’s terrible and he loves how camp it is.
dean has definitely seen all of trek. i refuse to believe someone who watches as much tv and films as dean wouldn’t sit and watch the whole shebang. i think he’s probably seen TOS and the TOS movies more than the others because its easier than sitting through 7 seasons, but i think rather than that being his favourite he’d just have really strong opinions about the best episodes of each one? like if you asked him what his favourite is he’d say you can’t answer that because they’re all so different from eachother
VOY - bride of chaotica, non seqitur, macrocosm for the favourite episodes. seven, janeway and tuvok would be his favourite characters. he think toms a bit of a knob but also feels a kinship with him for the similar brand of bab dad-ism but he wouldn’t be able to put that into words. he’s also a fierce defender of threshold being a good episode (he’s right for that)
DS9 - our man bashir it’s our man bashir. he doesn’t dislike ds9 but its very plot heavy and he didn’t care for it when he was younger. rewatching it after living through multiple supernatural wars he’d probably appreciate it more. i know for a fact he cries every time there’s an episode about sisko being a good dad. jadzia and garak are his faves
TNG - he LOVES q. he also absolutely will not be caught dead referencing how much loves q after cas comes into his life because sam will do the little brotherly knowing eyebrow raise at him and he will die of embarrassment. he regularly references ‘there are four lights’ because he’s a fucking nerd. he has made cas watch elementary my dear data and fistful of datas a half dozen times each at LEAST. cas KNEW how dean was going to be about the cowboy hat he’s defintiely got into full cowboy getup at home just for watching movies and in cas’ head star trek is fully to blame.
TOS - oh there are so many good TOS eps to choose from. obv he loves most of the series becuase TOS has MANY banger eps, his favourites are probably like. mirror mirror, amok time (baby dean defintiely had some kind of crisis watching it for the first time; i know the rituals are intricate). i know deep in my bones that dean watched the conscience of the king (introduction of the tarsus iv massacre) once and then spent his entire teenage years writing fic about that in his head, whether he posted it or not. dean related too much to those experiences of shared hunger. city on the edge of forever is one of everyone’s faves for a reason (and i’m STILL mad we never got a closer take on that episode in spn it could have been so fun).
ENT - he definitely thinks enterprise is stupid and he’s not wrong but he has also definitely watched it and been very repressed about the whole thing. mans was like oh i feel a kinship with malcolm reed the obviously repressed queer man. i will never examine this feeling ever again thank you <3 he also makes fun of archer for being obsessed with, of all sports, water polo. shran is his favourite character because he’s a little shit and makes him laugh, and t’pol, because t’pol is a badass and he’d appreciate that. i can’t remember the title of a single episode off the top of my head though lol.
i can see what you’re saying about sam being a TNG stan. i’m conflicted though, I feel like TNG’s generally the favourite of 1) obnoxious nerds who think knowing trivia facts makes them smart, 2) men desperately trying to seem masculine and 3) people who’ve watched it three times and have extremely complex thoughts on the personhood and rights of robots. i could see sam fitting into the third group, but people who are in it for the robot feelings are a coin flip between voyager and tng being the fave, and i just have a feeling that voyager would be his favourite. i know kid sam is getting gender envy watching voyager in shitty motels while dad and dean are out, trying to find the words for it. his first semester at stanford he talks a friend into giving him the janeway haircut and rides that high for months. sam’s favourite characters are seven and EMH.
sam and dean have definitely had dozens of long drawn out debates about philosophical topics in star trek. do the holograms deserve rights and if so which ones. are the romulans and vulcans still meaningfully the same people. was spock right for trying to foment reunification by going undercover on romulus. can the borg be redeemed. etc etc.
i haven’t seen any of picard at all so i can’t comment. i also think sam and dean probably read a lot of the trek books? they’re pretty common to find in secondhand bookstores and cheap, would have been even cheaper back in the day. sam probably doesn’t care for them much, dean has a few solid faves though. i’ve only read the disco books so i can’t comment anything specifically (besides the fact that i think dean read dead endless and cried like a baby), but some of the TOS and DS9 books are gay as hell and i know dean was eyes emoji-ing that shit.

Youtube recced me this trailer for a drama called Phoenix warriors and I thought maybe this is something that you can dig youtu.be/ZZPgD2A9voE I haven't watched it, I don't know if it's worth watching or not, but only for the scifi in ancient fantasy China set up is worth a shot.
first of all, OKAY LOOKS LIKE I'M CHECKING IT OUT
i have not heard of this, and there is always the chance its a total hot mess. you are completely write though in that I rarely ever see sci fi cdramas let alone fantasy combo ones (sci fi fantasy mash is my fave genre and of course to no surprise Guardian is near and dear to my heart)
Phoenix Warriors trailer: https://youtu.be/ZZPgD2A9voE
Phoenix Warriors ep 1: https://youtu.be/DSX6D-tsdX0
However - idk how much we will like it. so i will maybe just check out one ep :c I just looked it up on mydramalist and apparently the alien spaceship is in only one scene, the sci fi elements are rarely mentioned, and the drama is mostly Historical/Romance/Tragedy. Now... this was a mydramalist recommendation though so who knows if the show's way better than that, which is sometimes the case. Reviews do say the lead actress did amazing. They also said the overall story is good, the ending is sad which was most people's mixed opinions. For most people the lack of sci fi wasn't an issue (though I kind of lol want sci fi ToT)
(i am always up for mutant, sci fi, sci fi/fantasy mash recommendations if you see any! I already know of: Guardian - very good mix of sci fi/Fantasy and one of my fave shows ever, Bureau of Transformer - sci fi modern era very Star Trek or In The Flesh esque and written intensely well, Rattan - pretty grounded about the mutants premise and very realistic vibe in general, Fairyland Lovers - actually this ones SUPER good they actually kind of play with the extraterrestrial idea and a mix of comedy/heaviness, Demon Girl - I heard its a mutant premise in republican era but haven't seen it yet)
For a sci fi fantasy mash I DO know is a fun time: L.O.R.D. Critical World. Featuring Zhang Ming En as the cutest bastard joxer-like character ever, surprisingly gay, includes a bdsm princess who won't chill whom I love, includes the girl who was in a romance with Sunglasses from the Lost Tomb Reboot who plays a badass here, just in general has some intense Xena smashed with Drakengard vibes. Zhang Ming En's character is kidnapped a lot, the show is comedy and darkness combined and will just be so ridiculously dumb then punch your heart. It's by no means the 'best quality' but its entertaining and Something and managed to suck me in. It's also the only 'old fantasy'/sci fi mashup I cdrama I can think of - which is part of why it reminds me of Xena (old-fantasy/historical-ish but also gods and magic) and Drakengard (heavy fantasy-historical esque vibes but some weird sci fi stuff throughout). Also just the tone - slapstick comedy in a bleak af reality, that sometimes gets to your heart (Drakengard's fucked up party members and dark setting but comedic at times, Xena being so slapstick but set in a warlord torn world with character losses that shatter you, pretty gay).
also apparently??? Main Lord Silver in LORD Critical World is ALSO a main guy in Phoenix Warriors! (Maybe he tends to pick sci fi/fantasy mash stories, in which case I should look into his works more lol)

April 30: 2x17 A Piece of the Action
Today’s ep was A Piece of the Action, one of the greatest of all time. Honestly, as far as feel good episodes in particular go, it’s one of my ultimate faves.
Uhura seems to be having a lot of fun listening to Kirk trying to communicate with this alien.
Yes, Kirk, please explain how it took you a hundred years to get back to this alien society.
I actually like this whole back story a lot. If the Horizon met the Iotians 100 years ago, and the planet is on the edge of the galaxy, it must have been one of the earliest contacts between the Federation and another planet. Or did it even pre-date the Federation? I’m too hungry to try to figure out timelines lol but still, the plot kind of relies on it being an early contact: pre-Non-Interference Director, pre-modern communication methods.
Also just really curious about the Horizon in general. What kind of ship was it? What was it doing out there? What was that first contact with the Iotians like? I do not want subsequent “Star Trek” to explain this to me, I just want to speculate.
Woah who is this guy filling in for Spock? He looks like a Spock impersonator.
Kirk just turns Spock and McCoy around: “We’re beaming down now!” Has to take his BFFs on the mission.
The aliens are SOMEWHAT imitative?? This doesn’t look somewhat to me.
“Home was never like this.” Lol well he’s from Iowa so it’s probably missing some corn fields I guess.
This is clearly an open-carry state. Are they imitating Texas?
Spock is truly not bothered by anything at all. He’s so chill.
Heaters.
Baby blue eyes. McCoy looks so offended at that. It’s a compliment, Bones!
This is a great triumvirate ep because you can see their very different reactions to the whole thing, basically on a spectrum of chill (Spock) to alarmed (McCoy)
“I distill it myself.”
Compared to all these suits, the Starfleet uniforms really look like pajamas.
Ah-ha, Spock has found something interesting!
Published in 1992?! I want one.
AOS Kirk would have actually played pool with this alien gangster.
“This is the contamination, Captain.”
These “fancy heaters” lol.
The way the Iotians interact with the Federation aliens is honestly so interesting to me.
Come on, man, Kirk isn’t an arms dealer.
What’s this? It’s a cell phone, obviously.
What would these aliens do with an iphone? It would probably destroy them.
Oh, Scotty, so confused, trying to keep up with the slang.
I like how the secretary looks up like she can see the ship.
I feel like if you looked up “heater” on the Enterprise language banks, it would not be helpful. Imagine Scotty personally making and the beaming down 100 space heaters.
I love that Kirk knows so much random Chicago history. True Midwestern Boy.
Love those old pinball machines in the back of the room.
Lol Kirk trying to subtly get Spock to shut up and stop being truthful. “Don’t mess this up for me, babe.”
Fizzbin is a true classic moment in television. I love how much fun Kirk is having with it. And Spock nodding along like this makes sense to him. Adorable, supportive boyfriend. Also, I feel like fizzbin is a particularly effective strategy for this culture because they are imitative. A chance to learn a new game?? Amazing.
Kirk is so great in this episode.
“Mr. Spock--Mr. Spock? What are you doing on this frequency?” He’s on it because he finally figured out how to work the primitive radio.
I feel like real Chicago gangsters didn’t have “Boss” engraved on plaques next to their front doors.
“I never been arrested my whole life!”
“How’d you get back up there?” Lol. Well at least he remembered Spock was supposed to be a hostage.
“Why would he put a bag on our Captain?”
I realize that it is correct to refer to the gangster aliens as indigenous but it still amuses me.
Kirk is going to save himself while Spock is working on saving him. My boy is so smart!
“Ship’s log. Incredible as it seems, Dr. McCoy and I have been fooled again.”
You can tell Spock is trying super hard not to laugh here. His lips in that very thin line.
Kirk saves the day again!
It’s hilarious to me that in the time Kirk was kidnapped and escaped, Spock and McCoy got all the way up to the Enterprise and then all the way back down.
“I admit logic won’t work here, so let’s go wild with some cosplay instead.”
I love that Kirk canonically cannot drive and I think about this EVERY time he’s forced onto a motorcycle in AOS.
TOS Kirk has never been on a motorcycle in his life. But TOS Sarek definitely does own one.
But CPine would look good in this blue gangster suit.
AOS Kirk can’t drive stick any more than TOS Kirk can but he would be way more confident about thinking he can.
Spock is definitely going to veto Kirk buying an old car.
“I’m calling you a babe.”
Wow but I love Kirk and Spock and their adopted alien son. This kid is smart and bold; he is a good K/S surrogate child. And I definitely appreciate that when he calls for “daddy” two men show up.
I am now going to refer to the Federation exclusively as “the Feds.”
Kirk is having so much fun with this whole thing and I love that for him. “The whole ball of wax.” “Sawbones.” “Spocko.” The exaggerated accent.
And Spock is... just trying his best. I love this nerd. He wants to play but he’s just not got the hang of it.
Scotty and Uhura just hanging out, as they do. She definitely gets what Kirk is doing before Scotty does.
Scotty’s so proud of the term “concrete galoshes.” Well, close but no cigar.
Honestly I really want to know what the cars on Vulcan look like.
Kirk calling Scotty “baby” and “sweetheart.” Confirmed space bi.
Even Spock is getting into it. He even said “You’s.”
I have PTSD from the phrase “run government like a business.”
Spock and Bones are definitely Kirk’s boys.
“Now we have hostages again.” There’s something legit hilarious to me about that line.
“Isn’t that logical?” He hopes he’s pleased his space husband.
Is it really fair to say that the mobs are a criminal organization when, as far as we know or have seen, there is no actual government? Like what laws are they breaking?
Don’t at me about the paternalism of using the Feds’ “cut” to somehow inch the Iotians away from mob governance.
That ending with McCoy and the communicator was great lol. The image of the imitative Iotians taking apart the communicator and just going to town makes me happy.
I’m quite serious when I say I want this ep rebooted with the AOS cast for the costumes alone, as compensation for having to sit through yet another film about Khan.
Also I really love these aliens. They might be among my favorite aliens. I just like how they attach themselves to things they find interesting and then make them the centerpiece of their culture. Like, what were they doing before the gangster thing? Besides farming?
Also I love how they have no problem at all with the aliens showing up in their big ass space ship. They just think ‘oh, maybe they’ll give us stuff, like last time.’ I kinda feel like they weren’t weirded out by the Horizon, either. They know what they’re about.
My new stance on Kirk and cars is that probably, being from Iowa, he can drive, just not stick, but since he’s lived in San Francisco and space his entire adult life, he probably hasn’t driven since he was 18. Thus why he thinks he’s better at this than he is.
Spock has never been behind the wheel of anything, ever, though, in either universe.
Next up is The Immunity Syndrome. The only thing I remember about this is that all the Vulcans on the Intrepid die. And I think it’s the one where Spock flies a little ship into the amoeba and Kirk and McCoy rescue him? In other words, I remember the beginning in and the end, and nothing in the middle. So, should be fun!

Star Trek Voyager for fandom ask!
Ooh, this’ll be difficult since I don’t have the same passion for Voyager as you, blue-mint, but I’ll answer all the questions nonetheless.
1. my beautiful cinnamon roll too good for this world: Tuvok; he is, by far, the smartest person on this ship, and I just feel so bad for him that he has to put up with all these emotionally-driven, illogical humanoids, especially that nattering Talaxian Neelix.
2. my trash-shit fave: Lon Suder. Because, of course, I’m a sucker for serial killers in fiction.
3. my I love to hate them fave: Janeway; she goes out of her way to do some exploring in the Delta Quadrant when, really, her primary fucking mission should be getting everyone aboard her ship back to Earth since it was her fault that they were all needlessly stranded 75,000 light years from home. And then she has the fucking gall to condemn Captain Ransom for not upholding Starfleet ideals because his ship is falling apart while hers somehow manages to stay pristine and clean and with a functioning crew? My only bet is that Q somehow keeps the ship from falling apart so that he can watch their adventures for his own amusement because he got bored with Jean-Loc.
Sorry, I needed to vent.
4. my I hate to love them fave: The Doctor, because, by all means, he would be the kind of guy I would despise if I ever met him in real life. However, Robert Picardo’s performance just makes him likable.
5. my I wouldn’t piss on them if they were on fire non-fave: Neelix; all I have to do is remind myself of that scene where Tuvok chokes the shit out of the holographic version of Neelix in the ep Meld and I get happy.
6.  my I didn’t care about them either way at first but the fandom makes such a big deal about them now I can’t stand them non-fave: N/A; I can’t think of any characters on this show, main or guest, that I can think of that fit this profile.
7.  my I could take them or leave them kinda non-fave: Harry Kim; ‘nuff said.
8.  my I will go down with this ship and I won’t put my hands up and surrender, there will be no white flag above my door. I’m in love and always will be fave ship: well, given the fact that I’m not into shipping in general, I can’t say I have one. :(
9. my dirtybadwrong fave ship: see 8.
10.  my they’re cute together and I dig them but I’m not all that terribly invested kinda fave ship: Paris/Torres.
11.  my I didn’t care about this ship either way at first but the fandom makes such a big deal about it now I can’t stand it non-fave ship: I’m not enough into Voyager’s fandom to be put off by any shipping; but, again, see 8.
12. my MAKE-IT-STOP non-fave ship: Neelix/Kes; I don’t know what the fuck she saw in him to begin with, but I’m so glad that the Warlord got her outta that relationship.

obligatory tng update:
1. unfortunately still going slow. im not sure if its wholly bc of my irl shite getting in the way (very likely) but despite the episodes being GOOD now, like fully good, i still dont feel the same draw as i did with tos which is :(. but the eps ARE getting GOOD!!! like babey thnk u mwah. there’s been some bangers in a row ya kno
2. ok minor minor minor. idk im so... neutral abt troi/riker as an item right now!! i htink i could warm up but its also like. thus far theyve just... like i feel like theyve not given any actual moments between them. do yoou know what i mean, girlie. like i swear i rarely ever see them interact and i genuinely thought it was gonna be, like, a thing they brought up in the pilot then literally just FORGET abt bc like... theyve just literally been all tell and no show. like theyre like “oh they were a thing and theres still sth there” but then havent rlly... like they havent actually done tht much together? do u kno wht it means? like its just like the show has told us they have chemistry without really letting them demonstrate... anyways.  and idk i dont have a PROBLEM with that, actually. like im fine with that, bc its been super unobtrusive ya kno- and what i actually wanted to say is that!!! im rlly GOOD with it in a way.
like im neutral on them as a Couple and whatnot (also in part bc i do LIKE riker&troi, i do, but im not obsessed with them yet)  but omg idk... its like i said its been pretty unobtrusive does tht make sense. usually tht shit is crammed down ur throat in some manner, like- even if its just in terms of jealousy or whatveer but... on MULTIPLE occasions, it feels like, both troi and riker have like shown interest in the New Character of the Week. and i realised it with uhhhh the ep (runs to check) THE VENGEANCE FACTOR. bc its like him and troi were sat there eating together and the girlie of the week came over and she, like, got up and was like :3 i’ll leave you to it- AND I DONT KNOW? I KNOW THIS IS LIKE. BARE MINIMUM BUT ITS JSUT... REALLY NICE TO SEE CHARACTERS WHO ARE, LIKE, OPENLY KINDA INTERESTED IN EACH OTHER BUT ARENT, LIKE, A THING-THING  AND YET THEY WONT BE LIKE. RANCID IF THE OTHER PERSON IS SHOWING INTEREST IN OTHER PPL. DOES THT MAKE SENSE. like theyre chill and calm and like i said. i do think i could warm up to them if i got to see more of them.... I FEEL SO WEIRD im stillnot sure how i feel abt EITHER of them and im unsure why . i really am. like i feel like ah i like you guyss! but thts abt it. i think i still need to see more. anyways
3. also bc it comes up sometimes similar talk i think i wanna talk about Wesley . get him off my chest. i dont hate wesley. im the epitome of neutral on wesley as well. but like if you took s1 wesley and put him into s3 i’d be in a fucking rage. like i think the thing is, s1 wesley fucking sucks but also its like... in general  all the writing in s1 was fuckign bad and frankly he just ended up turning out very annoying becuase of it but ultimately . do u kno wht i mean. like its just s1 antics. wesley, now, in s3 is still not like a big fave but bc the writing is better i’m like okay! youre here! BUT if they wrote an ep with him in the same way they used him in s1 THEN i’d be mad. anyways.
4. I HAD MORE THOUGHTS BUT THIS ISNT EVEN TNG I WENT TO LOOK UP STAR TREK EPISODES AND FOR SOME REASON I WA SLOOKING AT RELEASE DATES AND I WAS LIKE OH OH OH AND THEN I ENDED UP LOOKING AT TOS AND REQUIEUM FO METHUSUSAL I CANT SPELL IM SO SORRY BUT THAT EP WAS RELEASED ON VALENTINES DAY AND IM THINKING ABOUT SPOCK AND THAT MEMORY WIPE HAPPY VALENTINS DAY GIRLS JESUS WHERE WAS I
5. god i love data and geordi so much though i feel bad but i jsut... OKAY MAYBE THATS IT. WITH TROI AND RIKER. I FEEL BAD LIKE I DONT HATE THEM IM JUST MORESO NEUTRAL BC I JSUT... I JUST WANT TO SEE DATA, GEORDI AND WORF SOOOO MUCH AHHHHHHH LIKE GIVE ME YM LEGENDS. NONSTOP.

star trek: tos season 1
I’ve been rewatching Star Trek: The Original Series instead of starting anything new (of course) and I have some thoughts about season 1! I love this show. Here are some random things I love.
1. Kirk and Spock wordlessly communicating. They’re in love, okay.
2. In ‘The Naked Time’, everything is falling apart, the bridge is in chaos, Kirk loses his temper, Uhura loses her temper. Then Uhura takes a breath, and she is immediately back in ultra professional mode, damn whatever she’s actually thinking and feeling. And Kirk immediately apologizes. It’s amazing.
3. I appreciate random shirtless Kirk. And that time Sulu was randomly shirtless and attacking people with a sword. (The look on the two dudes’ faces when he is brandishing his sword at them in the corridor is PRICELESS.)
4. The unicorn dog. Fave.
5. Spock playing the ka’athyra, and then Uhura sings with him, and she’s totally good-naturedly poking fun at him the whole time, and Spock accepts it with such good humor and he has no feelings my ass.
6. Obviously Kirk’s shirt tearing all the damn time, sometimes with no plausible reason. My favorite is when McCoy just rips the shoulder open to jab him with a hypo on the bridge.
7. There’s some pretty nice work done in the pilot establishing that Kirk and Mitchell have a long history and a deep friendship, and that makes what happens in the episode so much more tragic. I also love Spock’s easy acceptance of Kirk wanting the record to state that Mitchell (and Dehner) died in the line of duty.
8. Uhura competently taking over other positions on the bridge at a word from Kirk. The implication that all members of the bridge crew/senior staff have their specialties but learned all necessary functions in case of emergency is really nice. (I’ve noticed Sulu taking over navigation sometimes, too, and Scotty’s taken the helm at least once, and Kirk himself operates various positions.)
9. One of my favorite things about Star Trek is its optimism, and also the enduring sense of hopefulness and compassion it and the characters embody. In ‘Charlie X’, even after all the shit he did to them, you can see that they are nevertheless moved by Charlie’s genuine terror and Kirk tries to come up with a different solution that will help him. Or in ‘The Corbomite Maneuver’, after the alien has threatened to destroy them, and he puts out the distress call, Kirk’s response is still to help.
10. Kirk is in love with the Enterprise and the show doesn’t even try to be coy about it, it just comes right out and says so. Multiple times. <3
11. It’s clearly a product of its time and some things are... not great, but I love that it tries, and it honestly wants to portray a future where everyone is treated the same and things like race and gender don’t matter, even if it isn’t quite there in the execution of it. (Yeoman Rand in particular gets some wince-worthy moments in the first season, unfortunately.)
12. Evil!Kirk wears eyeliner, because of course he does. LMAO.
13. The green shirt! I love Kirk’s green shirt. (Actually I love the TOS uniforms in general. Best Trek uniforms, fight me.)
14. McCoy and Spock making fun of each other. <3
15. The number of times Scotty tells Kirk he needs hours/days to fix/accomplish something and Kirk is like ‘you have ten minutes’ and Scotty is just like ‘...fuck, okay’.
16. In ‘What Are Little Girls Made Of?’ Kirk sabotages his android by thinking negatively about Spock because THAT’S the thing he knows will make it clear something’s wrong. OMG. And then Spock makes fun of him for using an unsophisticated insult. Hearteyes.
17. Every time Spock calls Kirk Jim. Also, every time Kirk calls McCoy Bones.
18. Their food is hilarious, it always just looks like little colorful blocks. And their idea of futuristic fashion is completely ridiculous and also the best.
19. Kirk is so charming, but it’s so genuine, which is I think why it’s so devastating. When he’s looking at people, and smiling at them, you know he really genuinely gives a shit, and actually cares about them, and tbh I think I’d do anything he asked if he looked at me like that, lol.
20. McCoy is a gift. He’s so grumpy! And he calls everyone out on their shit, especially Kirk, and he’d never say so but he cares so goddamn much.
21. I just ship Kirk/Spock so fucking hard, OMG. Every time they interact I’m just like YESSSSSS THEY’RE FUCKING IN LOVE DAMN.
22. “Fascinating.” <33333 Oh! And the eyebrow raise! Especially when he does it at Kirk. Or McCoy.
23. Kirk’s absolute faith in Spock at the beginning of ‘The Menagerie’. It’s a bit heartbreaking, considering. And the moment you can see Spock choose Pike over Kirk, at the end of Part 1, stabs me right in the heart. And when Kirk agrees that Spock is guilty during the “trial”. (Also I love that they found a way to use the rejected pilot and turn it into what’s really a compelling pair of episodes.)
24. ‘Balance of Terror’ is so good. It’s just a battle of wills between Kirk and the Romulan commander, with how difficult the pressure of command can be for Kirk, and that look into racism with the navigator who distrusts Spock.
25. McCoy and Spock having a battle of wills over Spock needing/not needing medical attention and raising their eyebrows at each other. Love. I understand the Spock/McCoy shipping. (Speaking of, in ‘Operation Annihilate’ when McCoy doesn’t want Kirk to tell Spock he said he was the best first officer in the fleet but Spock overhears and says thank you, McCoy’s face, lmao.)
26. When they find Kirk’s brother dead in ‘Operation Annihilate’ Spock actually attempts to offer comfort!!! Also Kirk holds Spock a couple of times in that ep, it’s great.
27. Every time Spock gets offended because they’ve accused him of having a human emotion or reaction. <3333
28. I think ‘City on the Edge of Forever’ works not just because it’s a truly compelling question of not holding one life, no matter how dear, over the lives of millions, but because Edith herself is genuinely lovely. You can see the tragedy in the death of a woman like her, and the soft romance between her and Kirk is beautiful.
29. And even in the midst of what’s easily one of the strongest (if not the strongest) of Kirk’s relationships on the show, you get Edith saying that she can see that where Spock belongs is by Kirk’s side. My heart.
30. The Gorn. Come on. Iconic.
31. As compassionate as Kirk is I also love the moments that remind you that part of the reason he’s such a good captain is that he’s ruthless when he needs to be. He will make the hard decisions firmly and surely and he won’t let his crew know if he’s internally struggling with them.
32. Kirk’s fighting style!! He’s just throwing himself at people and hitting them with his ass and clinging onto their backs and I LOVE IT.
33. In 'Court Martial’, I think Kirk’s lawyer ex might wear a female dress uniform for the only time ever on the show (certainly the only time in the first season). All the times when the dudes are wearing them, the women are all still wearing their regular duty uniforms. It’s sort of hilarious to me that the men’s look so fancy but hers is just a slightly different collar and a longer skirt, lol.
34. When Spock mindmelds with the Horta in ‘Devil in the Dark’! It’s so sad, and I think that’s the first time we really get a look into what it means for Spock to meld, to share so deeply with another being.
35. I’m into how Kirk looks in that old-fashioned suit in ‘The Return of the Archons’ but definitely nothing beats him and Spock in short tunics and tights in ‘Errand of Mercy’. Plus Spock gets a half-cape!
36. ‘The Conscience of the King’, responsible for so much woobie Kirk backstory, even in AOS fic where it’s not even canon, lol.
37. McCoy strolling out with those women at the end of ‘Shore Leave’, all “well I am on shore leave”, lmao.
38. Of course McCoy’s iconic declarations of ‘I’m a doctor, not a ‘insert occupation here’.
39. The computer programmed to seductively purr at Kirk is hilarious.
40. The origin of the redshirt. Classic.

Star Trek!
Send me a fandom and i’ll tell you… Status: Accepting! @ltbroccoli
the first character i ever fell in love with: Sylvia Tilly. My friend showed me an intro clip of her, and that’s what convinced me to watch this entire series.
a character that i used to love/like, but now do not: L’Rell. That ONE SCENE ruined her character for me. Consent is key, friends.
A ship that i used to love/like, but now do not: I don’t dislike it, but Michael/Ash just doesn’t have the same chemistry as Michael/Book. I love them, ur honor
my ultimate favorite character™: Tied between Adira and Tilly. They’re both me in different ways
prettiest character: Clearly Michael Burnham. Yes, because Sonequa is naturally beautiful, but also because she’s the one who most closely resembles my own partner, and I’m *hearteyes* for my bae <3
my most hated character: Tough one... Honestly, maybe that W.oody A.llen looking dude from season 3. He’s obnoxious and gets under my skin. Oh! And Connolly! He was awful! I only know his name bc I literally just saw it in a fanfic. In all my tags, he’s just Mansplainer.
my OTP: Adira/Gray, Michael/Tilly, Tilly/Rhys (Favs are hard to choose, okay??? I love love)
my NOTP: May/Tilly. I’m sorry, but possessing someone is clearly not consensual (it’s a theme here, friends). Same with L’Rell/Voq-Ash
favorite episode: I have a feeling the upcoming episode will end up being my favourite, but I also really liked Context is for Kings (Intro to my girl Tilly!), Sanctuary, and Su’Kal.
saddest death: Gray’s made me the most upset. Hugh’s and Airiam’s were terrible, too, but I think Gray’s being after Hugh’s was not a parallel that I appreciate.
favorite season: The current one
least favorite season: Instead of season, I’m going to go with two arcs, and they are both Mirror arcs. Mirror!Verse is one of the few squicks I have, and I get REALLY anxious whenever it’s on screen. It’s a good thing it’s so damn pretty, and I’ve figured out that it’s Ok to fast forward shit.
character that everyone else in the fandom loves, but i hate: I don’t hate her, but MU!Georgiou just never clicked with me, which is a shame because I love Yeoh, and I love ladies who could kick my ass. But I think MU!Georgiou gave me too much of “I’m not like OTHER girls vibes, and I really don’t want to be reminded of me from 15 years ago.
my ‘you’re piece of trash, but you’re still a fave’ fave: I literally can’t think of someone who fits this description. They’re either trash, or I love them XD
my ‘beautiful cinnamon roll who deserves better than this’ fave: Grayyyyy and Adiraaaaa!!!! Michael and Hugh also beautiful and CLEARLY deserve better, but I wouldn’t call either of them cinnamon rolls
my ‘this ship is wrong, nasty, and makes me want to cleanse my soul, but i still love it’ ship: I keep wanting to ship Po/Tilly, and then I remember Po is 17 and NOOOOPE! Not doing that!
my ‘they’re kind of cute, and i lowkey ship them, but i’m not too invested’ ship: I’m actually highkey invested in them now, but previously wasn’t as invested in Owosekun/Detmer, and I wasn’t super invested in Michael/Ash when those eps were airing
