I'm on a Barty brainrot these past 2 days and I can't stop thinking about Barty who grew up somewhere in eastern Europe or just generally in a culture that has a very rich and flavorful cuisine being absolutely appalled at the 1970s bland British horror of a cuisine. Imagine everyone else is just, vibing eating their half salted mashed potatoes and beans and he's like ??? where's the personality guys?? where's the flavor where's the boom what the fuck???

i usually hc barty as eastern european, specifically romanian, as i touched upon here (and in general under the romanian!barty tag) and this is so something i can picture. especially because i think it was his mother who was eastern european and he adores her and truly loves his heritage because of her — so to be not only without her home cooked meals but with only “british” meals?? my man is in hell

i can imagine this being particularly rough around christmas times, as i don’t think barty ever goes home for christmas (i usually hc his mum as dead, or his dad is just too awful to be around for the visit to be worth it. or even granted? i can see senior just demanding barty stays put.) when he is used to having lavish and flavoured christmas dinners, something of true cultural importance, only to be presented with dry turkey and mashed potatoes must be rough

this also applies to latino!barty — if i got minced pie for dessert instead of natillas i would riot
