tried to find the old ass WWE Dirt Sheet youtube channel and one of the things that pops up is "cm punk suspended from raw by triple h"
1. i thought he was already fully transitioned from wwe to aew so does this even mean anything
2. why is triple h allowed to suspend anyone from anything other than the top rope? did mcmahon finally step down? that doesn't seem like something he would do unless he couldn't keep going anymore
2b. if vince did step back then where does shane-o mac fit into all this?
#i haven't been in the scene since shawn michaels was working as some kind of errand boy for jb bc of the 2009 recession#i'm certainly open to actual answers but i am mostly thinking out loud#triple h should be in charge over vince mcmahon simply by virtue of him being much larger than him#i think the biggest guy should be in charge of all the smaller guys#triple h isn't the tallest wwe superstar but he might be one of the widest#john morrison was the other guy on the dirt sheet btw i had to look it up

Why RWBY can't come back
The last news we got of RWBY was all the way back in July, when it was acquired by VIZ Media.
This much serves as a hard letdown for anyone who was hoping Dillon Goo and his studio could acquire the property, as VIZ Media is owned by freaking Shueisha, aka the guys who run Shonen Jump. It is unlikely to be sold back to a smaller studio.
VIZ Media buying it was a baffling choice to begin with, as RWBY isn't nearly as eternally-profitable as some of the other ventures it's been focusing on, such as Bleach and animating its Thousand Year Blood War arc. I suppose RWBY doesn't make for an ill fit when considering that it can simply languish on a shelf generating endless merch sales at a slow but steady pace over the years--VIZ Media is in charge of many, many series, and all of its biggest properties are surrounded by a haze of particle-sized smaller properties whose only real purpose is to add to the cumulative money flow in towards the studio.
But it does mean that Volume 10 of RWBY, in sharp contrast to what diehards crowed about when the acquisition was announced, is almost certainly not coming. VIZ Media's main practice is taking control of works that start in serialization form, usually manga, and adapting them, not generating whole new content. If VIZ Media even did feel like continuing the RWBY Saga, it would depend on:
other writers being welcomed into the room, because VIZ Media is a large corporation and is very unlikely to adhere to any fandomized purist idea that only Miles and Kerry should write for it and be credited with it,
other writers actually wanting to be associated with a series that is so badly stigmatized on the internet now. If you're Rooster Teeth, it won't be hard, you can pick from a pool of fans who will sell their souls to do so (and who cares about any quality), but VIZ wouldn't even glance in the direction of a tactic like that.
And if so, there's no real telling what it would look like, which is the axe coming down for the remaining RWBY fanbase, who are volatile and hostile and protective of what they think RWBY should be (i.e., Miles and Kerry). If VIZ Media is stupid, they'll plow ahead with this anyway, generating almost no profit because RWBY's tiny remaining fandom won't associate with it and RWBY's very large ex-fandom also isn't interested in it, thus falling into that Nintendo-style hole of making something no one asked for and then wondering why it didn't sell.
It would be much more in line with VIZ' profit-lined goals to maximize the revenue trickling into RWBY with another spinoff series like Ice Queendom or the manga series, which won't actually advance the story forward but will sate people expecting a Volume 10 at some point and merely needing any form of content to assure themselves it's inevitably coming.
Unfortunately, that means RWBY as a rebooted series with actual writers is also probably off the table, because VIZ Media are unlikely to do something they view as risky even if they think profit could be generated from it; the safer option is the trickle rather than hoping to strike a renewed spirit in fans.
And so RWBY is very likely to have the ultimate fate that I had naively thought we'd avoided back in May: spinning its wheels on the shelf of anime limbo for eternity rather than rebooting or dying peacefully.

Weekly Update March 8, 2024
I didn’t do as much as I had hoped over spring break due to still being sleep deprived, but tomorrow and the next night I should be able to catch up. I’m making a good deal of progress on stuff.
I figured out animation with Clip Studio enough to make a little gif of Romeo playing piano, to go along with his theme. I’m really happy with how it came out. That’s the biggest song I have ready, but I’m really close on another (unless I decide to get more ambitious, which I might), and I do have a smaller one scheduled to go up Tuesday. I’m feeling surprisingly good about music.
The main problem I’m having is kind of a ‘just finish it’ thing, where I’m just not motivated to go record melodies or melody parts for whatever reason. That’s what’s holding back a couple pieces now, but I’m hoping that I can do some tonight or tomorrow. I’m thinking tonight because I got hit with inspiration for another character theme melody, and I don’t want to lose it while I sleep tonight, but I’d feel bad starting in that when another character theme and some other miscellaneous pieces are also awaiting melodies and recordings. I’d like to knock a whole bunch out tonight, because theoretically they shouldn’t be that bad, the annoying part is dressing them up for use which doesn’t need to be done tonight. Im not sure if I want to tonight because I also want to draw, at a minimum I’ll record that character theme melody.
The other big music thing is a vocaloid cover of a song that I’m using to test out how vocaloid works. I got the audio back from the friend with the voicebanks, and it sounds a lot better than expected! There’s a couple things I do want to tweak, but I don’t think I’d be able to do it from within the program, it’ll probably be more me fiddling with the wav file. Idk song is going surprisingly well, shouldn’t be very complicated to round up instruments, I already got all the plugins set up it’s just a matter of recording. I’ve also managed to find a guy in my area who offers Guitar lessons for cheap, which I’ve been taking and I do think the two I’ve been to are helping. Maybe if I get really brazen I can record organic guitar instead of using a vst, since it should be mostly or entirely power chords, but it’s not the end of the world if I can’t.
I do want to figure out visuals to go with it. I was a little hesitant to really put in a big effort with it, until I heard that buying a license for cover rights is ‘not actually that expensive’. I don’t know if that means 10 or 200 bucks but worst case I can hold onto it until I’m comfortable enough to drop money if it’s really that expensive. I’d like to do a simple music video with the vocaloid character, since the original song’s video is also really simple, although I need to figure out character design. Might throw a few together and put up a poll.
I’ve been trying to get more drawing stuff done too, some miscellaneous animations mostly. I’m really trying to push myself to finish up the timings I need for my commission sheet, and honestly I’m pretty close. I feel bad because I probably will have to increase prices after all, but I’m also offering other options, which can still be cheap. I’m trying not to undercut myself for my level of work, but art commissions are so expensive that I don’t want to be overcharging either. Most of the comms I have done have come with tips, so I guess people are willing to pay a bit more than I was charging anyway, but even then I don’t want to crank the prices high just because a few people are willing to pay more. I’m charging based on time, I just need to sort out how long things take.
Final point, comic writing/thumbnailing is going well, I’m at 25.5/32. Unsure how bad editing is going to be, but I’m kinda editing as I go along so I don’t anticipate it’ll be that bad. I’m expecting to be able to actually start making pages soon. What comes next could either be a continuation or a pitch for the other story. I get more questions about the other story, so I’m tempted, but I also feel like it’s a harder sell than the first. Whatever I need to finish the first one first, and that’s what I’ll do.
I’m still messed up on sleep and flareups are also picking up pretty bad, but only in the mornings, so I bet if I get more sleep they’ll go away too. Either way I do have a consult for the next surgery to deal with that in a couple months, so I should hopefully be okay. Plan tonight is to either draw some more or record some stuff

One of my biggest fears is that I’ll end up alone and that’s tied into both a martyr complex I didn’t realize I had but also my introspective gender queries.
When I was first made aware of lesbians (it took until I was 12 to learn about gay people despite living in a progressive household. Good job mom and dad), like a lot of straight guys, I felt like my options were being shrunk -which doesn’t make sense from a logical standpoint because the ratios of orientations and sexuality should remain basically constant through both gay men and gay women. The number of gay men will always be around the same as the number of gay women meaning the pool gets smaller but the ratio of men to women remains the same.
Regardless I still thought this way for a long time and that eventually evolved into a sort of romantic martyr complex where I just said “well if gay people make me lonely then I’d rather be lonely than make them go back in the closet”. Even now that I’m out as semi-bisexual I still find myself having this illogical martyr complex as a comfort for my loneliness. Like, “well I’m lonely but at least it has a purpose,” which isn’t true. There’s no reason for me to be miserable. There’s no silver lining. I’m just miserable.
Of course, all of this is woefully heterocentric. The metaphor I used earlier was a shrinking pond but that assumes that women and men pair up automatically like a chemical reaction. It isn’t like that in real life and attraction is more accurately described as consistent randomness. Every person has their own idea on what they like vs what they don’t like. Preferences are not universal and attraction is so much more than gender and orientation.
Speaking of gender, I questioned a while back if I was trans and came upon the conclusion that I am not. Not only have I never experienced gender dysphoria but I fundamentally wouldn’t be transitioning for the right reason if I was. The most common form of relationship I see on Tumblr is girl/girl which makes me feel -extremely irrationally- that those are the only relationships that women engage in. So I immediately start thinking, “maybe if I transition I’ll get a girlfriend,” but that’s not why you transition if you are actually trans. You do it to feel more at home in your own body. You do it to find love and acceptance from yourself and not from other people.
So what’s the point of this post? I don’t know. Maybe someone can find an answer to that question and give my endless wait for love an end one day. Maybe just reading about other people’s experiences with gender and love, even its absence in their life, can help people better understand their own self more fully. Maybe I’m just rambling into the void.
I’ve spent a lot of time being introspective and that’s allowed me to see what I need to work on within myself but it’s also led to a sort of impasse. I can self examine my loneliness till I die and maybe one day I’ll figure out why I think I’ll never find love (maybe it has something to do with the fact nobody wanted anything to do with me when I was young) but I can’t fix it through self examination. The only thing that can help is probably just meeting a girl and truly falling in love. Or maybe a therapist can help. I’ve been to 3 of them and none of them have done jack shit besides charge me for the honor of getting told to eat better.

There's a lot of people making these ebikes and we should start making them they're they're close and they're just really not doing it it's not that difficult it really isn't they got everything almost the way it should be they just need to make a me drive so people don't have to charge the damn thing a million times and people are not buying them because they don't go far enough for fast enough it's kind of lame because when you're cycling a professional cyclists averages about 40 miles an hour and can go upwards of 80 miles an hour and these people are worried about people going fast and they just are a bunch of suck bags and I really cannot stand them anymore it's flooding down here and then they can't really fix it but boy what a bunch of jerks I'm saying all sorts of stupid s*** and people are going to beat them to death for us to God there's the dumbest people I've ever seen and this is a swamp that he's living in it's going to change though because people are going to start mining the gold and they're going to start mining it pretty soon it's going to be a huge huge mining operation globally and fight tons of people will die going down there and we're looking forward to it so we are prepping now for a very huge huge ongoing conflict underground and we will annihilate tons of them using it and we are going to take tons of the gold and cadmium and we will have cover for advanced weaponry finally and yeah we're going to use neo up and use him as cover we're all sorts of things before he dies because of his fresh mouth he's The biggest loser I've ever heard I don't believe that I've seen anybody as stupid as that guy in my life and he he takes the cake okay his wife is not very bright but Jesus Christ she doesn't do anything like this idiot and Harris has some of it but boy he's a big spoiled piece of crap it's awesome it doesn't look at it that way and all this horse manure of course he doesn't but man what a mess up that guy is he is a complete disaster zone and annoying as hell we have a program for it and we're initializing they're going after that soft-bellied f** and we're going to take him down and we are going to use them to announce that some people have nanobots and things and we're going to do that very soon he doesn't have much time left before he's going to be erased we're talking about it all the time and we are putting it out there all the time but it is a big deal because he's enormously annoying and now not plans on the other side to take him out too and they are proceeding one of them is by Sarah and she ends up dying with him. Several of them die by disappearing and their bodies are found later and people think they're still around it's kind of a way to do people in they say all sorts of things because they're stupid
We have activity in action here in Charlotte county and we need to address it there's a lot of competitors there's a lot of fighting a lot of people are yelling and screaming to haul the boy in and we need to rectify that we need to go after this guy John remillard until he's not sheriff. These people are decimated by this battle and conflict with the max the max are getting up and going after him and they're decimating his forces in an effort to show what happens to people to do it and he is down pretty soon all over the world are going to pummel him they are doing it now in the Eastern continent but it's kind of mild but they're getting information fairly soon they're going to take it out and hit him and he's going to get hit bad and it will start in the West and he's already diminishing pretty quick and we mean it too his forces are getting smaller everyday and recently over the past two weeks and it's been about 15% and he was not really huge at the start noise pretty big good chunk of the world's population around 25% it's been cut in half but the rate that he's going is faster and is more now it's like 3% today and it's going to be more tomorrow and that's of the general population no it's of his population so if he said say 17% and he loses 3% a day he only has Days to live and a lot of that is off the island and really they're kind of stuck there they're fighting the shield in the blockade and they're getting decimated and they're sending people if there's six days at the current rate he's going to be gone in one week and we think that it's true we think that he's not going to make it people are angry at him here so that's what you remind me this cadmium down there for your Shields and weaponry and we're going after you and the white gold too we found a ton of it it's not very bright it's going on now people are figuring out it is a lot of stuff hidden here and they're going after him and the pseudo empire is going to take people down after they take stuff and what's going on right now

Hi love! How are you today? Also, I have a request for you. What do you think about, Platonic!Tommy x Reader, where they are bestfriends, and Tommy catches a cold, and gets all clingy with the reader, and ends up falling asleep in their arms. While he is asleep, reader goes live on insta, or tiktok, you choose, and “makes fun if him” for “not being clingy”. Just two best friends cuddling, ya know? 😅 (but nothing sexual)
Hello, hello dearest! I am doing pretty well, I hope you’re doing well! And I genuinely love everything about this request - it’s too adorable! Sick!Tommy definitely needs all the bestie cuddles he can get :D So I hope I do this request justice and thank you so much for the request !! <3
Platonic!Tommy x reader (I wasn't sure if you wanted C!Tommy or CC!Tommy, so I went with CC!Tommy since the Content Creators are who I've been writing for, however I can rewrite this! ) *Especially if against boundaries*
~~~~
You knew! You absolutely knew when Tommy told you about going to the water course, on a partially frigid day, something was going to happen, now look where he was… Acting like a whiny, snot-nosed toddler.
“Y/nnnnn,” Tommy’s voice trailed from your bed, making you shift in your seat to see the tall blond sprawled out against your covers, groaning and sniffling. “Tom, if you get as one drip of snot on my sheets,” your warning - of course - fell to deaf ears as he sat up, groaning from what you could tell was the sinus pressure and headache. “Would you like me to turn off the lights?” You murmured, hoping to not agitate his ache more than it already was, however, he gently shook his head.
“No, but forget your stupid editing for two seconds and come ‘ere,” he all but coughed as you winced, hearing the rawness in his throat and with the soft lights you could see his eyes were slightly red and teary, as well as nose blushed red from blowing it. You couldn’t help the roll of your eyes as you pushed your chair back, shaking your head at your ill best friend with a tut. You flopped onto the bed, causing him to jump with the impact with an annoyed huff - glancing at you with a frown. “That ‘stupid editing’ I’m doing is actually for your stupid channel, so watch it or I’ll corrupt all your files,” you bit, wiggling your fingers towards him, attempting to possible irritate him, but he just pushed your hand away and scooted back against your mountain of pillows with a groan. You laid next to him, pressing your shoulders together as you both stared at the dinghy ceiling.
“You wouldn’t dare,”
“Try me, big man,” you both broke into grins at the nickname as Tommy broke out into a fit of coughs, making you frown. Scooting closer, you wrapped him into a hug, not minding the warmth from his hoodie. He slumped into you, sighing as you both laid peacefully. It didn’t take long for Tommy’s snores to rattle you, blinking as you glanced at him - his mouth parted and a bit of drool sliding down his chin.
“Gross,” you rolled your eyes, grabbing your phone from it’s charging port with a wicked grin. Opening your phone, you maneuvered yourself to be comfortable with the weight of the lanky blonde boy in your arms as you clicked onto TikTok, grinning as you clicked the Go Live.
Viewers began to pour in as you glanced between the “hello” and “hi’s.” Since becoming one of Tommy’s few editors, and even jumping onto the bandwagon of streaming - you gained a following quickly.
“Hey, guys!” You whispered, keeping your voice a low hum as Tommy moved, somehow cuddling closer as you snickered, attempting to keep the phone steady on the two of you. “I’m a bit pinned down at the moment, so Tommy’s new video may take a bit to go out! But, how’re you all today?” You watched chat - catching a few ‘good!’ and ‘better now.’ You were thankful for the community you gained - yes, it may’ve been because your best friend was a well-known streamer, but you could care less! You were proud to be by Tommy’s side as he accomplished his biggest dreams, and you couldn’t be happier for him.
“Yes, Tommy is with me, chat - I know! Look at this absolute teddy bear! He’s like a child with a death grip on their mother’s arm!” You snickered, as the chat agreed adding a few ‘haha’s’ and laughing emojis as a few questions came in, leaving you to answer a few while adding a few jabs at Tommy for clinging to you when he always mentions how ‘big man’ and ‘macho’ he is. It was the perfect opportunity!
“I’ve known Tommy for awhile - we knew each other from when we were younger and sort of became inseparable,” you giggled, remembering how Tommy used to ask you for help to reach his juice cup or the cookie jar, but now you’re always asking for help from your tree-height best friend. “Plus, he’s the one that pushed me to get into editing and streaming - so we all have him to thank for pushing me out of my comfort zone.” You smiled as an annoyed groan came from beside you, making you freeze as chat began to spam ‘HE’S WAKING UP’ and ‘RUN Y/N RUN!!!’
Tommy moved to sit up carefully, his yawn even sounding scratchy as he coughed some, mindful to keep it away from you. He blinked, his eyes switching between your slightly widened eyes and the TikTok live stream, as well as chat still spamming for you to quickly book it while you still could.
“Y/n…” Tommy hummed with his hoarse voice, the scratch in it as you slowly began to sit up, moving to try and give yourself at least a small chance to run. “Why’re you live… On the TikTok community… Hm?” Each word came out a bit breathless as you could barely contain your grin, sitting up on one of your knees while your foot grazed the floor.
“Tommy, Tomathy, Tom Simons, Big Man, come on,” you giggled, moving your hands up to keep him back if he tried to grab you. “It’s nothing!”
Your persuasive argument - you really tried to get out of that one - didn’t work as he reached for you, only to be pulled off the bed as you leaned back to get away from him. A shout came from both of you as you landed on your thankfully carpeted floor - chat was spamming as you and Tommy groaned, laying in defeat beside one another as he reached over, ending your little live as you turned towards him, grinning.
“A TikTok live? Seriously?” Tommy groaned, dropping his head back against the plush carpet as you broke into a fit of giggles. “What?” He huffed as you wiped at a fake tear, gesturing towards his face as he frowned, reaching up and wiping away a thick line of drool that had clung to his chin.
Your soft laughter caused him to break out into a smile, joining in on the laughter as he rolled his eyes as you both held your sides, still laughing before you both settled into the soft flooring, your shoulders touching as you sighed, glancing outside. The sun had begun to set, leaving the room in a soft light - you knew Tommy had another vlog to do tomorrow with Jack, Tubbo and Ranboo. You turned towards him, smiling softly as Tommy glanced at you, still holding a bit of a frown.
“You’ve got a busy day tomorrow,”
“At least I’m not stuck editing,” he snickered as you punched his shoulder, making him cry out and rub at the wound.
“What the fuck!”
“I should make you edit your own vlogs, dickhead,” you groaned, moving to sit up as he followed your lead, huffing as he began to massage his temples. The reason why he came over suddenly came back to you.
“Shit, what’re you going to do about tomorrows’ vlog? You’re still sick,”
“I’m a big man, Y/n, I think I can handle a head cold-”
“Yeah, okay, not even half an hour ago you were whining and grumbling about your much your head hurt and how much you needed your best friend,”
“Aye! Don’t make me sound like a pussy!” He grumbled as you rolled your eyes, snatching your phone and flopping back onto your bed, going onto Twitter to see all of the screen records and clips your fans had gotten from your small live. Tommy sat on the floor glaring at you before standing, still glaring before attempting to climb over your comforted body.
“Tomathy!” You growled as he flopped back into his previous spot, snuggling into the comforting feel of your pillows and even your own warmth. It felt comforting for him to feel your precious, but he’s not a pussy so he’ll never admit it.
“Are you done?”
He side-eyed you, pursing his lips with a huff. Not answering as you rolled your eyes before returning to your hunt on Twitter. Tommy side-eyed you again, before scooting closer and watching a few of the clips with you. Tommy couldn’t hold back the scoff as there was a picture of him practically on top of you as you tried to speak to your chat.
“I am so sick of you,” he suddenly grunted as you glanced at him, rolling your own eyes while closing your phone and staring at the ceiling, once more that evening.
“I know you’re not, you can’t lie to your best friend, TommyInnit,” you scoffed as he sighed, closing his eyes as you felt your own body slowly become warm and comfy on your comforter, sighing as you and Tommy both began to drift asleep.
“You’re right.. But, I don’t see Tubbo here,” he mocked, his eyes still closed as you snapped open your eyes, frowning. You moved around some before snatching one of your smaller pillows and smacking it against his chest, causing him to yell out again.
“Now, I’M sick of you,” you huffed, settling in and closing your eyes as Tommy scoffed, as you two settled in, too tired for any more bickering and allowing you both to find comfort in your best friends arms once again - this time no lives, no chats, and no more annoying sniffles.
Plan a Wedding
Chris Evans x Reader
Summary: When you are asked by your best friend to help her plan her wedding, you don't know what to do, you want to help her, but have the biggest crush on the groom's best man, who also helps with the planning.
When your best friend, Kate, asked you to not only be her maid of honor but help her with the planning of her wedding, you of course said yes, without even thinking twice.
It took you about four hours before you realized what that truly meant.
It meant that you will spend a lot more time with Chris. The man you had the biggest crush on since he was introduced to you and the best part, Kate knew exactly how you felt.
So, now here you were in a florist shop, pretending that you were not blushing furiously as you tried to hide behind every bouquet.
You took a deep breath and focused on Kate instead. She was looking at at least five different bouquets and table decorations when you stepped in to help her.
"Which are the ones you do not like?" you asked.
"Hmm...The yellow ones wouldn't fit with the theme. But I don't want there to be too much white, so they might work."
"Alright, Then how about the pink ones? You want pastel colors, those are too dark. Let's get those off the table then." The florist helped you and now there were only two bouquets and two smaller decorations to chose from.
"Which ones do you like more?" she asked turning to you.
"It's not my wedding, but the place you rented for the wedding has a dark wood interior. I think the green would make it too cold. But if you use the yellow with the light pink, it could bring that spring feeling you want."
She nodded. You didn't even notice Chris and the groom, Sebastian, arriving at your side.
"I like the one Y/N said." Seb helped and Kate finally picked one. They gave the order to the shop assistant and then you moved on.
The next stop was the bakery.
Honestly, you weren't sure which couple asked other people regarding their cake, but you didn't mind it, you liked cakes.
And as the slices kept on coming, your eyes kept on shining. You only got out of the trance when Chris laughed a little.
"You really do like cake," he noted when Seb and Kate were too busy.
"I do, yes," you never really talked with him, you were afraid he might think you don't like him or something, but it was the exact opposite.
"Thank you for helping her pick flowers. I thought we will die in that store she kept on looking and going back and forth."
"She has a hard time saying out loud that she doesn't like something. She thinks it rude, but you will see, I bet she will have a harder time here."
You gave Chris a look and he smiled, both of you turned back to see Seb eating cake and Kate thinking rather hard.
"How many layers will it be?" you asked and tried to help.
"Three," Seb answered.
"Alright. I would say the biggest layer should be something like vanilla and chocolate. It's a safe choice and everyone likes it. Then you can have something fancy which tastes nice like the dark forest one. Then you can have something like red velvet or chocolate only," both of them nodded, understanding your point.
"I quite liked the pistachio one." Chris said, "It's light and nice, I think everyone will enjoy it. I agree with the bottom two layers, those are very popular flavors."
"Then we will have vanilla and chocolate then black forest and finally, pistachio." Both bride and groom agreed and you were out of the shop quicker than you thought. Now the four of you are headed to have some lunch.
You and Chris sat at a table as Seb and Kate went to use the toilets.
"What are you planning for her bachelorette party?" Chris suddenly asked.
"Oh, yes, so the idea was that we go to a bar, play some small games. I wanted to get a dancer for her, but nothing too wild or anything."
"Good, I was planning a striptease bar but then I remembered his brother would freak out so most likely we will go to a bar or have some drinks at my place."
"Sounds good to me," you smiled at him and the pair arrived back. You all ate some pizza before heading to the next place.
Your day went on like that. Going from one place to another. You ended up offering to make the invitations yourself since the place wanted to charge a lot more for them than they should have. Chris offered to help
***
Kate sent you a template of what she would like for her invites to look like. You bought everything you will ever need and more.
You made the text itself digitally then printed it out. Now, they needed to be put together, so Chris was coming over to yours to help.
Just as you finished preparing everything, your doorbell rang.
"Sorry, I'm late, traffic, but I brought the things you asked, I have an amazing scissor that cuts paper like a dream," he said as soon as you opened the door.
"Hi. It's okay, you are just in time,"
You let him in and the tedious procedure of preparing hundred and fifty invitations began.
You were about halfway done when you felt your back start to hurt.
"I will make some lemonade for myself, would you like to have some?"
"Sounds good thank you, I started to feel like my eyes will melt." he laughed and moved to the kitchen with you. "So, you have a dancer for Kate, does she know?"
"Oh, no it will be a surprise all of the girls know about him, would you believe that her mother was the most excited?" you poured some ice into the cup and moved to the living room to sit on the couch. "Why are you asking?"
"Just interested, I didn't tell it to Seb or anything."
"Good, I'm so happy for them."
"Me too. But they are both can't decide on the simplest things."
"Really? Would you be better?"
"Oh, please I have my whole wedding planned in my head, flowers and all."
"Says the guy who is still single."
He laughed. "I even know who I want to marry."
This almost made you choke on your lemonade. You felt a bit jealous but didn’t ask any questions.
"I always thought you didn't like me. I know I can be loud and annoying even, I laugh loudly which I know some women don't like. But when you accepted for me to help you today, I thought there is hope."
"I like you, Chris. A lot actually, and I like your laugh. It's loud but it gives me a smile."
You didn't notice how close he got to you only when he lifted your chin up. He waited for you to pull away but you didn't.
"All I could think about last week was you. I pretended it's our wedding you are picking flowers for and our cake you are tasting. Call me a creep, Y/N, but I am in love with you. I have been for a long time now."
"You are not a creep. And I think I am in love with you as we-" he didn't let you finish as his lips met yours in a soft kiss.
You dreamed of this moment for so long and now that it was here, you felt like you could faint. You couldn't believe this is actually happening, but it was.
***
"So, you finished with the cards, can we send them out?"
"Ooh, we got halfway done with it yesterday. I promise for tomorrow I will have all."
You and Kate agreed to have breakfast the next morning. She squinted her eyes and looked at you, then as if lightning struck her eyes opened wide.
"Oh My God, Y/N you and Chris had se-"
"Shhh!" you put your hand against her lips, stopping her. "Don't yell, please." "Finally! I was waiting for you to get together for two years now!"
"Yes, so it's not a thing."
"Great! So tell me everything! How it happened, when it happened, and where? Hope not on my invitations!" he lifted her cup to her lips and you just knew this will be a long day.
But you were happy, extremely happy now that you and Chris were together.
As you told Kate the story of last night, your phone notified you that Chris wrote you a text.
You will never forget the smirk on Kate's face as she made more sexual jokes, she will never let you live this down.
A slightly random question: how would you compare Goblin vs Hotel del Luna? (My personal impression is that Goblin is somewhat overrated, while Hotel del Luna is vastly underrated)
it's hard for me to say, honestly, because i remember really liking goblin when i was in high school and not really caring a whole ton for hotel del luna when it first aired--but as the years have gone by, i now don't really feel that strongly for goblin, but i honestly adore hotel del luna.
(also, oh god, this answer got long, hang on)
i think for me, personally, though--it's really a matter of which story has slightly stronger and more coherent themes. don't get me wrong, kim go eun and gong yoo have insanely good chemistry (a shame that . . . kim shin and eun tak fell in love while she was still in high school, when i was 16 and also a high school student, i didn't see what was so bad about that, but now i'm kinda like . . .. mm .. .. . not the biggest fan of that). outside of that, goblin also had perhaps honestly game-changing levels of cinematography and the ost really changed the trajectory of kdrama osts ever since. there are also some genuinely beautifully written lines in the show, as well as some very emotionally-charged moments (i remember crying so hard from the first episode alone).
however. at the end of the day, i think, goblin is very much so a romance-centered story, and that might be why i don't feel quite as strongly for it. absolutely no hate on the romance genre overall, but for me, personally, korean dramas (and really, any story in general!) is much stronger when they have a combination of dynamics and messages that touches all aspects of life, not just romance.
so that's where hotel del luna is admittedly stronger, i think. even though both hotel del luna and goblin are both centered around very ancient supernatural-esque beings, hotel del luna seems to stand out more in my mind because of how it touched on themes that were also so . . . very human? and that mostly has to do with the fact that the very premise of the show: a hotel run for ghosts who need to rest or heal somehow before moving to their next life--really invites those kinds of human messages. (the bride who didn't want to let go of her fiance, the father and son who wanted the driver to know that it wasn't his fault, the victim of sexual harassment who was full of so much justified resentment, even the frickin' tiger who just wanted to go home--even though even these little stories are smaller-scale, they all speak to something that a lot of people can somehow connect to.)
and, of course, there's the strength of jang man wol's character. don't get me wrong, i do love kim shin--and there are some very obvious, very distinct parallels between the two characters, but i think man wol was a little more compelling to me because she was so obviously bitter, and i think that sort of sticks more to audience members. (it's hard! it's hard to be kind to people when you've been so badly hurt! jang man wol's bitter and mean, but for some reason, that speaks to a lot of people, including myself lmao)
and, while we're at it, i think i should give a nod to gu chan seong and jang man wol's dynamic, because i feel this answer would be incomplete without it. what i liked about chan seong and man wol's relationship was that, unlike the kind between eun tak and kim shin, there was always this question about whether or not chan seong and man wol are actually bound to each other via fate. for eun tak and kim shin, it was pretty obvious (eun tak can see the sword! she is absolutely the goblin's bride! etc etc etc).
for chan seong, he was just Some Guy. no special ability to see ghosts, living a mostly normal life outside of these gosh darn flowers that keep getting sent to him on his birthday because his dad, of all people, made a dumb (but well-intentioned!) mistake. he's just like us, floating around and absolutely terrified of ghosts and also exasperated, and i don't think either he or man wol actually planned on falling in love.
(which is why it's a little bit disappointing to learn around the last few episodes that they are, in fact, somehow bound by fate. still bitter about that.)
but even if they were bound by fate, there was something a little bit more natural about their relationship--i know that hotel del luna has been criticized for not fleshing out chan seong and man wol's relationship as well as it could have (which i agree to, to an extent!), but maybe it's iu and yeo jin goo's fantastic acting, maybe it's just that i like to romanticize, but their relationship also just felt. oddly human. (because idk. i think there are a good chunk of lonely creatures who very badly want to be loved but don't know how to be loved, mostly because of their past. and i think there is also a good chunk of lonely creatures who have loved someone so wholly, even though they knew deep down that it might not end well. to love is to love in spite of that, anyways.)
#answered#anon#hotel del luna#idk i think ultimately hotel del luna is one of those shows that like . . .#hm. i don't think people can really appreciate hotel del luna for what it is#until they somehow more personally connect to the story if that makes sense?#when i was 19 and watching it for the first time#i just didn't connect to the characters or really understand them#but weirdly when i was 21 i understood them almost IMMEDIATELY and#it feels kinda pretentious for me to say this#but i think it was just because i'd experienced more things in life#like ah yes. give me a bitter and angry woman who FOR SOME REASON can't get over her first love bc of betrayal!#jang man wol is so full of trust issues + hurt + resentment#and then here comes along gu chan seong who doesn't seem to want to be around her#but he's kind and unfortunately that sticks#and that might be why i just adore them more#idk. something something 'it's rotten work' and etc
Notes: Something small I wrote in two days for the Service Dog AU, created because of this post I made. If you’re interested, you can always find some more stuff about this AU in the “service dog au” tag!
Virgil shared a few classes with Roman Sanders.
He was in his first two periods, and the only student (other than Patton) that Virgil actually took note of being in his class. Though, that was because it’s almost impossible to not notice him.
Roman was a really quiet kid, one that teachers hardly ever called on and was always excused from doing presentations (lucky bastard). Virgil had only heard him talk a handful of times, and he wasn’t exactly popular either. The thing that really made Roman stand out, however, was the giant golden retriever with a service dog vest that followed him everywhere.
He’d seen dozens of kids go up to him asking to pet his dog, met with a lot of refusal and Roman leaving the class if it got bad enough. Usually he would only sit at his desk, quietly doing his work while his dog curled around his feet and didn’t make a scene. If Virgil wasn’t a loner himself, he’d go up to Roman and maybe strike a conversation. But the guy always seemed to be calm when he was alone, and Virgil sucked at starting conversations, so they never actually talked.
It was only a month into school when Virgil had his first conversation with him. And it was absolutely not his intention.
Virgil was checking his phone at his designated lunch spot when Patton slammed his lunchbox on the table. “Virgil!”
“...Yeah?”
“There’s a cute little puppy over there!” Patton pointed to the other side of the lunchroom, but Virgil couldn’t see what he was talking about from this distance. How far do those damn glasses make you see? “I wanna pet the good boy so bad!”
Virgil kept looking where Patton was pointing. “Is it the drug dog again?”
“No, it’s a different one!” Patton seemed to be vibrating with excitement where he was standing, jumping up and down with the biggest grin on his face. He seemed to be fighting a fruitless internal battle before he loudly announced “I’m gonna go pet the puppy so much!”
The moment Virgil realized what was happening was almost in slow motion.
First, he saw a secluded table away from all the others, right behind the table Virgil thought Patton was pointing to. There, he saw Roman Sanders eating his lunch, his service dog under the table just like how it was during class. Patton ran across the lunchroom to go to the secluded table, dodging any kids that got in his way. Virgil realized in horror that Roman wouldn’t be able to stop Patton before he dived under the table just to pet a dog. And doing so could fucking kill Roman.
Virgil sprung up from his seat and shoved everyone out of his way to get to Patton in time, no matter how many bitchy remarks the other students made. Roman didn’t have time to look up and notice Patton approaching before Virgil pounced on his friend, nearly toppling them both to the ground with the force of him smacking himself into Patton. The security guards looked at them both as if preparing to break up a fight, but looked away when it only seemed to be two guys being kids.
Roman may not have noticed the bubbly kid charging at him before, but he certainly did now, looking up to see Virgil and Patton basically wrestling each other.
“Patton, don’t pet the dog!” Virgil yelled.
“Awwwww, but why not!?”
“It’s a service dog, you can’t distract a service dog or you could literally kill someone!”
Patton relaxed in Virgil’s grasp, “...Oh.”
“Yeah, oh.”
“Uh…” Virgil and Patton both looked at the poor kid that almost got attacked, “Do you...need something? Or…?”
Patton’s eyes lit up. “Your dog is so cute! What’s his name?”
Roman smiled shakily to hide his flinch. “Her name is Princess.”
“Princess? I love it! What breed is she?”
“Golden retriever…?”
“She’s such a good girl! I love her, she’s adorable!”
“Uh, thank you.”
Virgil let go of Patton, but still kept a hand on his shoulder. “Don’t scare the poor dude, Pat.”
“Oh! I’m sorry, I just really like dogs, and Princess is so cute and fluffy! I have two dogs of my own, but they’re a lot smaller, and I’d have a bunch of cats too if I wasn’t allergic.”
Roman’s voice gained a little more confidence. “Princess is the only dog in my house. My brother has a bearded dragon, though.”
“A bearded dragon sounds awesome! I don’t know much about reptiles though, and I’m always scared to hurt them because they’re so tiny. They’re super cute though!”
Virgil rolled his eyes. “Don’t mind him, he really likes animals. I’m Virgil, and this is Patton.”
“Oh yeah! I forgot to mention that! I’m Patton, do you how do?”
Roman laughed, but didn’t mention the reference. “Roman.”
“You’re in my first two classes, aren’t you?” Virgil asked, “With Mrs. Jones and Mr. White?”
He nodded. “...Didn’t you like...yell at Mrs. Jones a couple days ago over assignments?”
“She’s a bitch and deserves to know it. Who the fuck assigns three giant-ass chemistry packets due in three days?”
Patton waved his finger at Virgil disapprovingly. “Now Virge, just because the homework they give is ridiculous doesn’t mean you get to cuss out a teacher.”
“I didn’t say I cussed her out.”
“I know you, Virgil.”
“...The detention was worth it and I’m not sorry.”
Roman laughed again, and Patton smiled so wide that Virgil thought he would start jumping through the roof. “Hey Roman, can me and Virgil sit with you? I’d love to keep talking!”
Virgil noticed Roman’s leg begin to bounce violently. “Uh, sure…”
“Great! I’ll get our lunches!”
“Do you have any, like...allergies, Roman?” Virgil asked. Anything I might have in my lunch that could accidentally kill you? I don’t wanna kill you. Patton already almost did that. Let’s not give a second close call.
Roman shook his head, so Patton walked back to their previous spot to get their lunches. Virgil took a seat directly across from Roman, and once he did, Princess rose up from her place at his feet and lied across his lap. Roman started petting her with both hands, and Virgil felt a sense of panic rise in him. Please don’t fucking die. “You okay dude?”
Roman nodded, but Virgil pushed just in case. “Do I need to get like...a teacher? Or the nurse?”
Roman shook his head, then took a couple deep breaths in and continued to pet Princess’ fur. Virgil kept watching him carefully just in case, but it felt awkward sitting at the table with no conversation or food to focus on. Instead, Virgil mindlessly searched through Tumblr for the thirty seconds Patton was gone, placing his own lunchbox and Virgil’s tray on the table with a smile.
Virgil put down his phone and instead started eating some of his food, but Roman didn’t talk for a while. Princess still had her head on his lap with his hands combing through her fur, and the more she laid on him, the more Virgil began to worry. Why is she on him?
Well...only one way to find out. “So, Roman…”
Roman lifted his head up to look at Virgil. “Yes?”
“What kind of service dog is Princess? What does she help with?”
Roman turned his attention back to Princess, but he still smiled a little, so Virgil considered it a slight win. “She’s a psychiatric service dog. She does a very good job of helping with my anxiety.”
“Oh, mood.”
Roman raised an eyebrow. “You...have a service dog?”
Virgil’s face somehow became more pale than it already was. “Uh, no...I mean, like, I have anxiety too. Obviously not as bad as to have a service dog, but like...solidarity.”
Virgil took Roman’s second smile as an even bigger win. “Solidarity, I suppose.”
“How long have you had Princess?” Patton asked.
“About two years, I think. She was in training for a year, but she’s been my full-time service dog for this past year. I had another dog before her, but he’s retired now.”
Patton let out a loud horrified and upset gasp, “The poor baby! I’m so sorry!”
Roman’s eyes widened. “Not like that, no! Simba’s still alive, he just isn’t a service dog anymore! He keeps my grandparents company at their house.”
“Oh, good! He sounds like such a sweet puppy!”
“He is. I visit him sometimes, and he’s gotten very lazy, but he still jumps around and gets excited when he sees me.”
Patton covered his mouth with his hands excitedly. “Do you have a picture of the good boy, by any chance?”
Roman nodded and took out his phone. After a bit of searching, he tapped on a photo to show it to Patton and Virgil, causing Patton to gasp and squeal again. “Oh my goodness I love him! He’s such a good little puppy!”
“I would hardly call him a puppy anymore.”
“He’s an amazing puppy.”
“Just let it happen, dude. Pat insists every dog is a puppy.”
“They’re all babies!”
Roman smiled at the two bickering over his old dog, wondering if he should butt in with a witty quip of his own when Princess scooted off of his lap and back onto the floor. He definitely felt better now. Not completely calm, but nothing panic attack worthy. Right at the second he decided not to push his luck (saying what was actually on his mind was always harder around strangers, and he had just calmed down), the bell to signify the end of lunch buzzed through the entire school. Virgil stepped up to throw his tray away and Patton packed up his containers in his lunch box as Roman did the same.
“It was nice meeting you, Roman!” Patton exclaimed, holding out his hand for Roman to shake, which he did extremely stiffly and pulled away after only a second. Patton smiled anyway and didn’t seem to mind.
When Roman stood up to head out, Virgil came back and stood alongside Patton. “What class do you have after this?” He asked.
“Oh, uh...I actually go home after lunch. I do the rest of my classes online.”
“Damn, I wanted to bother you while you walked to class so I could skip gym.”
“Virgil, go to class!”
“It’s fucking gym, he doesn’t give a shit. I’m passing and that’s all that matters.”
Patton sighed but didn’t push it. It seemed he’d gotten used to it after this long. “Well, hopefully we run into you tomorrow, Roman.”
“Uh, actually…” The two looked at Roman and waited for him to speak. Princess pawed on his leg to warn him he was getting too worked up, but Roman ignored it this time. Definitely not his smartest idea. You can do it. Just say it. “...If you two wanna sit next to me, maybe, I wouldn’t really, uh...mind…”
Patton smiled, soft and reassuring. “We’d love that. See you at lunch, then?”
Oh hell yeah! “Yeah...see you tomorrow.”
Virgil walked ahead and waved a hand at Roman from behind. “See ya.”
“See ya, Roman!”
With that, Roman was left alone again, but this time he didn’t necessarily mind. His heart was beating out of his chest, and he couldn’t tell if it was from adrenaline or a sign of an attack, but he still considered it a win. No more sitting alone at lunch.
Roman and Princess walked through the crowd to exit the building through the main office. When he got into his car with Princess in the passenger seat, he took a minute to calm down before he started driving down the road. Princess stepped over to the driver’s side to comfort him one more time today, practically sitting on his lap and letting Roman comb his hands through her hair. The ball in his chest slowly grew smaller as his breaths became easier to take, though his arms still felt weak as they shook.
But yet, this kind of anxiety was worth it. Just this once.
When Roman did start driving, pushing Princess back to her side and taking off, he had a smile on his face the whole time.
***
“Yo, bitch!”
Roman groaned at the sound of his brother coming through the front door. “What!?”
There was no verbal response, but Roman heard the footsteps coming up the stairs before his bedroom door swung open. Remus posed dramatically in the doorway. “What’s up?”
“Just finishing up some online stuff, why?”
“Who was Mr. Ebony Dark’ness Dementia Raven Way and his friend Fluttershy?”
“...You mean the kids with me at lunch?”
“That’s the bitch.”
“Well, their names are Virgil and Patton, not whatever the hell you just said.”
“In my defense, of course the Raven Way guy is fucking Virgil.”
“What are you even talking about!?”
“Don’t worry about it!” Remus walked over to Roman’s place at his desk and threw his arms around him. Roman scoffed, but didn’t protest. “But why were they sitting with you? Do I have to commit murder? I know a guy.”
Roman tried his damn hardest not to smile. “Patton wanted to know about Princess, so we just...talked. It was actually quite nice. I even invited them to sit with me again tomorrow.”
“Roman Sanders? Making friends? Surely, you jest!”
“Says the guy who only has had one friend his entire life.”
“Janus is my ride or die and if you dare to insult him again, I’ll rip out your teeth and shove them up your nose.”
“You do that. Now get out, I’m working and you smell awful.”
Remus backed away with a gleeful smile on his face. “I rolled around in a giant puddle of mud!”
“Take a damn bath!”
Remus was out the door with a large slam before Roman could continue to argue. “I can’t hear you! But remember, if you need to bury a body, tell them you know a guy!”
Roman rolled his eyes and basked in the sudden silence. Princess looked up at him from his bed, and he couldn’t resist taking a small break to pet her. “He’s so weird, Princess.”
Although Princess couldn’t agree with her mouth, she absolutely did with her eyes.
***
A week had passed since Patton and Virgil started sitting with Roman at lunch. It had become his favorite part of the school day for more than just the ability to go home. He had friends. He was talking to people who he not only enjoyed talking to, but people who seemed to enjoy talking with him. Some people would consider only two friends too little, but Roman considered it the biggest of wins.
(His mom also seemed shocked but proud of him for socializing with people, so it was an even more amazing win than before now.)
Roman was perfectly content with his two friends. So long as he kept them, he would be more than fine. Sometimes his anxiety would act up and tell him that they’re only gonna leave him again, but he tried not to think about it. For right now, they were his friends. It was all that mattered.
What he didn’t expect was for him to get a third friend.
It was his fourth period class, right before his lunch where he was able to eat and have a good time with some company. He’d noticed the new kid that joined the school two weeks ago, but of course he never talked to him. He acknowledged his presence when the teacher introduced him, but that was it.
He was doing his math work when the new kid sat next to him. At first, Roman paid him no mind. Maybe he was getting distracted by the other students and wanted a more quiet place to work, or he liked how Roman’s table had almost no one sitting at it. It wasn’t until the kid spoke up that Roman gave him attention.
“Forgive me if this is too personal of a question, but how exactly did you train your service dog?”
Roman looked over at the kid. Oh yeah, hi, my name is Roman, what’s yours? “Oh, uh...some things I had to hire a personal trainer for, but I did some of the training on my own…”
“How long does it take to train a service dog?”
“Usually about six months, I guess...but it took me a year to make double sure she was ready.”
“Is she a medical alert dog?”
Why all the questions? “No, a psychiatric one.”
“Ah. I’m aware of psychiatric service dogs, but I have a little more knowledge when it comes to medical alert and seizure response dogs. However, I’ve never actually met someone who has a service dog. I’ve only done my own research out of curiosity, especially with my own disability.”
Roman got the courage to look up from his work at that. The kid had nerdy, square glasses over his eyes and straight black hair shifted to the right side of his face. Despite the fact that it wasn’t even fall yet and they lived in Florida, he still wore a purple hoodie that almost completely engulfed his body. The hoodie read I don’t look sick? You don’t look stupid! in white and purple letters, and on his wrist, a silicone band saying Alert! Epilepsy with a red medical symbol on both sides of the words.
Roman almost said Oh aloud. He’s not trying to be rude. He’s probably trying to find someone like him, especially if he’s new. Come on, Roman, be polite! And don’t freak out for once! “...You do have quite the epilepsy hoodie there.”
The kid looked down at his hoodie and smiled slightly. “Yes, well...it encompassed my kind of humor, and I am rather intolerant to the cold. Under this I have a Doctor Who shirt.”
“I, uh...don’t have any service dog shirts, but Princess has a lot of patches.”
“Is it alright if I look?”
“Sure, just...don’t pet her or anything.”
The kid waved it off. “Don’t worry, I know better than to get her attention.” He ducked under the table carefully, like any sudden movement would alarm Princess. He rose back up after a few seconds and gave his attention back to Roman. “She has a lot of Disney-themed patches. Where did you get them?”
Roman’s heart started beating faster. “...I actually, kinda, um...I made those ones myself.”
“You did a good job with them. They’re very intricate.”
“Thanks…”
“Oh! I apologize, I never actually introduced myself. I’m Logan.”
Roman gave him a nervous smile. “Roman.”
The bell rang, and everyone in the class started to pack up their stuff. Roman put his unfinished paper in his homework folder and stuffed it in his backpack while Logan did the same. When they both stood up, Logan addressed him one last time. “I have to go to lunch, but I hope we can talk another day.”
Roman felt that same desire come up in his throat. The desire to ask, to say something he usually would never consider asking. He couldn’t stand speaking to people, especially acquaintances, but Logan had a different energy to him. He was calmer, understanding, and a lot easier to handle than someone like Patton. Not to mention that his therapist did mention he can only get better if he pushes himself…
Princess didn’t alert Roman of a possible panic attack, so he considered that some kind of improvement. “Actually, Logan?”
“Yes?”
Come on. Do it. Say it. Three, two, one… “...Would you, uh...maybe wanna sit with me and some of my friends? Today?”
Logan’s face didn’t give him any hints to his emotions. “I would appreciate that.”
“I can...show you where it is, if you want?”
“Sure. I’d be happy for you to show me.”
The two walked out of the classroom, Roman and Princess in front of Logan to lead the way to the table. The two had a moment to situate themselves before Patton and Virgil came over, and with such a small table, Roman felt like the place was all the more crowded now. All the more welcoming.
Admittedly, a million times better than always sitting alone. He saw Remus staring from another table with those mischievous eyes, but he didn’t pay him any mind. When they were home alone, then he could bug him about it.
As always, right underneath his feet, Princess was curled into her ball, ready for any signs to jump into action. Instead, Roman looked at her under the table while the others went to get food. Apparently, he thought, you are a very good conversation starter when I need it.
“Good girl.” He whispered, although Princess didn’t seem to comprehend that he was talking to her. Instead, Roman took a mental note to give her a treat when they got home.
For Want of a Skeletor
Entrapta hosts a Princess Alliance meeting at the Crypto Castle and absolutely nothing goes wrong. More Skeletor stories!
*
The lights were on late in Dryl.
Stars shone outside the windows. Entrapta sat hunched over her desk, studying datapads and readouts. A polite cough from the laboratory door caused her to look up from her work.
“Oh! I’m sorry Hordak, did I wake you?”
Her partner stepped softly into the room and shook his head. “Imp did. You know how he gets when either of us take too long to come to bed.”
Hordak crossed the cluttered floor and joined Entrapta at the desk. He was holding Imp in his arms, and the smaller, winged clone whined plaintively when he saw her. Entrapta kept her screens on, but leaned gratefully into Hordak’s side and curled a tendril of hair around his waist. She yawned, despite herself.
“I know. I just want to make sure I get everything right before the other princesses come over tomorrow.” She glanced back at the data, nervously tapping her fingertips together. “I’ve never hosted an Alliance meeting before! And this rescue will be our biggest mission since… well, you know. I don’t want to mess anything up.”
Hordak smiled. “Your diligence is admirable. But I also seem to recall someone telling me that imperfections are beautiful.”
Entrapta stuck out her tongue. “No fair.”
“I’m afraid the science is sound. Come to bed, my dear.”
The scientist scoffed, but she did not protest when Hordak gathered her up in his arms. She wrapped more of her hair around him, and Imp settled sleepily in the resulting nest. Entrapta could already feel herself drifting.
“You will be a shining star tomorrow,” Hordak promised, as he carried his family back to rest.
“Tomorrow,” echoed Imp.
*
The next day saw the Crypto Castle’s largest meeting room filled with princesses, dignitaries, and other honorary Alliance members. While Scorpia and Perfuma admired the tiny refreshments laid out for everyone, Mermista split her time between groaning at Sea Hawk’s boasts and trying every available chair to find the most comfortable one. Glimmer and Bow stepped uneasily around the edges of the room, watching carefully for anything that might be a trap, and Frosta followed their lead. Netossa and Spinnerella tried their best to find a chair Swift Wind could sit in.
Adora and Catra, wearing increasingly baffled expressions, were conversing with two domestic-looking robots who sat at the head of the table next to Entrapta. One was tall and skinny, and the other wore a welded-on handlebar mustache.
“Entrapta has parents?” Catra was asking, her face a galaxy of disbelief.
“Adopted, technically. Or adapted,” the skinnier bot explained. “We’re Entrapta’s parental units. She built us when she was six. You must have seen the painting in the foyer.”
“Yeah, we’ve been here pretty much the whole time,” the mustachioed model added. “You kids sure made a racket during your last few visits. What was that all about?”
“Uh,” Adora faltered.
To her immense relief, Hordak swept into the room at that very moment, flanked by Imp, Emily, and the reprogrammed Horde drone Entrapta had dubbed ‘Skeletor.’
“Welcome, everyone,” Hordak boomed, bringing the gathering to a respectful hush.
“Witless fools! I’m in charge now! And if you know what’s good for you you’ll do as I say!” Skeletor shouted.
Hordak scowled and shooed the fussing robot away from the table. “Pay no mind to that one,” he grumbled once he’d regained the floor. “Now then. Please allow me the honor of introducing the unparalleled mind who has made this operation possible, Princess Entrapta.”
“Thank you all for coming!” Entrapta started, while everyone took their seats. “I know you’re all excited about what we’re planning, but there’s still a lot of preparation to do before we can take off. As the chief science officers for this mission, it’s vital that Hordak and I gather as much data on your abilities as possible! Interdimensional travel is severely unpredictable and —”
“Hold on,” Mermista interrupted. “Exactly how high are the chances of us getting mutated by cosmic space energy or whatever? Because I only want cool mutations, not gross ones.”
“Maybe thirty, thirty-five percent?” Entrapta guessed. She shrugged. “A lot of this is theoretical. You guys will be like my guinea pigs! By which I mean the small robotic animals in the castle I protect and care for. And experiment on, sometimes.”
She laughed heartily. Glimmer and Bow shared a nervous glance. Perfuma turned slightly green.
Entrapta regained her composure and pointed back to the display board. “Ahem. Anyway, the good news is we already know some things about where we’re going! Probably.” She shuffled her notes, gaining confidence as she spoke.
“Before Adora found the Sword of Protection, historians debated ancient records of She-Ra. Some claimed she was called ‘Her-Ra’ and fought for the ‘Power of Grayskull.’ But I theorize that what those archaeologists actually uncovered was evidence of —”
“I have a question!” Frosta yelled. “Will there be hunky guys in the other dimension? I’m asking for a friend.”
“It’s funny you mention that, actually,” Entrapta replied. “Listen, just let me finish and…”
Unfortunately, anxious impatience had already gripped the assembled Alliance members. They clamored with questions, all talking at the same time. Entrapta shrank back in her seat and pulled her welding mask down, seeming to reach for something under the table.
Hordak stood up. Just as it looked like he was about to do something violent, a loud alarm sounded and the lights in the room flashed red.
“Uh-oh.” Entrapta glanced around at the assembled company. “Um, get ready to tuck and roll everybody!”
“Get ready to what?” Mermista cried out, but it was already too late. Multiple trap doors swung open across the meeting room floor, and with flailing limbs and startled shouts the guests were sent tumbling down chutes in every direction. In moments they had all vanished.
“I always feel so much better after doing something bad!” Skeletor cackled. “Now we begin phase two!”
*
Adora and Catra, who had clung to each other as they fell, landed with a bump in a darkened, underground space. As soon as they arrived, bright lights flickered to life and a huge screen lit up against the wall.
Entrapta’s face appeared on the monitor, larger than life. “Oh good! You’re alive,” she chirped when she saw the other two.
Adora clambered to her feet. “Entrapta! What’s going on?”
The scientist glanced away. “Well, I guess Skeletor didn’t like that we were ignoring him. So he stole my map of the castle and activated the security systems! Which means we’re all lost in the labyrinth until I can catch him. Isn’t that great?”
“It’s something,” Catra groaned, rubbing her head.
“Exactly! Now, without my map I can’t come find you. But if you can make it through the traps, the hallway you’re in should take you back to the meeting room. Then you’ll be safe until I can fix things!”
The screen dimmed again before Catra or Adora could protest. Left with few other options, they turned to get a good look at whatever dangers lay ahead.
They were standing at one end of a long corridor. Square blocks floated along its length, suspended in midair with anti-gravitational tech. An interrogative punctuation mark flashed on one, while a squat robot with painted-on angry eyebrows shambled slowly back and forth beneath it.
Catra took it all in. “You have got to be kidding.”
Adora had already drawn her sword and begun to venture forward. Catra was about to follow her, when something made her ears flick. A suspicious frown crossed her face.
“Hey, Adora!” Catra called. “Listen!”
“What?”
Catra pressed her ear to the wall. “There! Do you hear that?”
“Obviously not,” Adora huffed. “Now stop dawdling, the first puzzle looks pretty easy.”
Catra stayed where she was. “Hold on a second. This part of the castle feels familiar. I remember walking through here back when, uh, back when it was still Horde territory.” She coughed awkwardly, and then reached up to tilt the frame of a big-eyed kitten painting. “Look!”
Something clicked and the wall slid open, revealing a new passageway. Distinctive laughter could be heard coming from the other end of it. A purple neon sign reading “Secret Entrance!!!” buzzed to life.
Adora sighed and rolled her eyes.
“One time Entrapta had me and Scorpia over for a life-size Snakemen and Ladders game that got a little out of hand,” Catra explained as they entered the tunnel. At the far end there was a brightly lit office; inside, it was filled with laboratory equipment, video monitors, and a humble but dignified desk.
Hordak was sitting at the desk, in what appeared to be a smaller version of his old Fright Zone throne. It swiveled. Entrapta was sitting on the desk, and she waved as the other couple entered.
“Myaah! Sleep gas and stun-rays only, my evil minions!” muttered Skeletor, who was busy working the video monitors. On closer inspection, Adora realized that each of them showed some of the other princesses as they traversed the castle labyrinth.
“Welcome to mission control!” Entrapta sang, spreading her arms wide. “Hordak didn’t think you’d find us, but I had a hypothesis you might.”
“It was a ruse!” Adora gasped, scandalized. “You’re not lost at all!”
“You really need to hang out with Entrapta more if that still surprises you,” Catra observed. She looked at the monitors. “Ah, are they gonna be okay?”
“Better than!” Entrapta sprang off the desk, hanging by her hair as she showed off multiple datapads. “Everyone was getting a little… distracted upstairs, so I just decided to speed things up a teensy bit! The princesses using their powers to escape the maze will let me get all the readings we need, and then we can have a nice little party! I had the baker make tiny cakes.”
“I made sure Hordak’s doomberry pie was especially tasty!” Skeletor piped up.
“And it’s all perfectly safe!” Entrapta promised. Discreetly, a ribbon of hair reached out to push a blinking button. On the monitors, Mermista and Sea Hawk were rescued from a robot shark attack by a convenient change of the currents.
“This is hilarious,” Catra laughed, looking more closely. On one of the screens, Swift Wind was gleefully running loop-de-loops along a curving racetrack. “I think they’re actually having fun in there. Can we stay and watch?”
“I’m afraid not,” Hordak said. She-Ra’s — and your — assessment is the most important of all. But we’d love to have you over to the castle for dinner soon. Shall we say eight o’clock next week?”
“That sounds nice!” Adora chimed, before Catra could stop her.
“Splendid. I’ll cook,” Hordak concluded. Then he pressed a button on his desk, and a trapdoor sent the younger women plummeting through the floor.
Catra and Adora yelped in surprise, only for their fall to be cut short by an enormous pile of pillows on the level below. They struggled to their feet. Another corridor stretched away in front of them, filled with further challenges. Floating gold coins, each about four feet tall, indicated a pathway.
“Try not to have too much fun,” Hordak called good-naturedly as the trapdoor slid shut.
“Use the warp zone! It’s faster!” Entrapta added.
“Have a nice trip down!” said Skeletor.
*
Hordak settled back in his chair (it had soft armrests, and a cushion for lumbar support) and watched his partner at work. Entrapta flitted from screen to screen, taking notes and making adjustments. On one display, Bow and Glimmer had met up with Netossa and Spinnerella while navigating a cage minefield. On another, Frosta was making an ice bridge to help Perfuma and Scorpia cross a slow-moving spike trap.
“I’m sorry you had to use your backup plan. They really are utter fools if they ever doubted your genius,” Hordak mused.
“Different people have different strengths and weaknesses,” Entrapta replied, without looking up from her work. “And a good scientist collaborates whenever they can! Even if that requires a little creativity sometimes.”
Hordak nodded. “Fair enough. Nevertheless, I would not blame you if you wished to have nothing more to do with the Princess Alliance. Even their attempts to help you can seem… insensitive. You’re not obligated to forgive that.”
Skeletor looked up from his control panel and shook a fist. “Don’t you get awfully tired of being a hero all the time? Don’t you ever feel like doing something evil?”
“They’re trying to be good friends,” Entrapta defended. “And so am I. And if I really did need their help, maybe things would be different. But I’ve got it all under control!”
She vaulted across the room, flipping switches and turning dials along the way. On the monitors, Perfuma’s fall from a tall platform was gently broken by a sudden anti-gravitational field.
“Besides, forgiveness isn’t always about the person being forgiven. It’s also about taking back potential energy that was lost.”
“Did you learn that in my brother’s therapy group?” Hordak asked.
Entrapta smirked. “Actually, he got it from me.”
A pleasant ding sounded and Entrapta clapped her hair. “Hooray, everyone made it back! I’ll calculate the high scores and then we can continue the social experiment!”
“You astonish me every day,” Hordak purred as he rose to follow her. Entrapta put out her hand, and he took it.
“Wait for me!” Skeletor cried out. “You might get lost by yourself!”
*
One week later, a much smaller gathering of royals met in Dryl.
Catra and Adora sat together in one of the Crypto Castle’s least intimidating dining rooms, listening with barely-contained delight as Entrapta’s parental units thoroughly embarrassed their former boss.
“...And so I said to him, ‘I have charging ports Hordak, can you download raw data offa me?’ Ha! Oh, you shoulda seen his face!”
Hordak slouched in his chair. “I do not think we need to bore our guests with the details of this particular story,” he protested, feebly.
“Oh, I’m not bored at all! I want to hear everything,” Catra said. She leaned forward, grinning. “So, was this before or after you hooked him up to the lie detector?”
Entrapta giggled, and gave Hordak a gentle pat on the shoulder as she reached for another helping of his tiny quiche. All things considered, the night was going surprisingly well.
It was exactly what Entrapta wanted.
After dinner, wheeled bots carted away the leftovers and dirty dishes. Hordak poured coffee for himself and Adora, and the parental units retired to wherever it was they lived in the cavernous castle. Entrapta, lost in thought as usual, felt a familiar feline presence approach her.
“Thank you,” Catra said, sincerely. “Not just for this. For everything. For being so nice all the time. For making this mission happen. It means a lot to me.”
Entrapta smiled softly. “To me, too. Everyone makes mistakes. It would be a shame not to learn from them when we can.”
“Did you say something?” Skeletor squawked, suddenly materializing in the doorway.
Entrapta, unbothered, immediately produced a datapad. “Oh we’re just talking about the big rescue mission! Actually, you should probably take a look at my data, Skeletor. I haven’t told you much yet, and we might need you!” She held the blinking screen out happily.
Skeletor looked at the datapad. At first he seemed confused; then he boggled as he registered the information in front of him. “Eternia?” he gasped in disbelief. “Grayskull?”
His voice rose to a fevered pitch. “He-Man!”
For once, Skeletor had no words. He shrieked incomprehensibly instead, fists shaking.
Hordak chuckled. “It’ll be just like the old days!”
Skeletor screamed.
5 People Who Should Not Be in The Gaming industry
Our choice of entertainment, when we choose video games has nearly endless potential, with works that are inspiring from varying genre’s, to varying resources, and many people who work on these games are as inspiring as they are instrumental to the industry’s continued growth and success, these 5 people, here are none of these things, and are nothing short of a detriment to it. Whether it’s because they broke the law, multiple times, clearly don’t care about the people who work under them, or are simply unable to tell their fans the truth, here are 5 people, who simply should not be here. Be warned, I may trigger you one way or the other depending on where you stand, and I’m not sorry about it if you want to defend these losers. Oh and, one final note, my lists aren’t usually ranked by how important an entry is, or in this case, how messed up they are, but rather by how much I want to talk about them, so do keep that in mind.
5. David Cage.
David might be the least unworthy person on this list, depending on how you look at it, (I think he’s one of the worst people here, but you do you) but he’s also possibly the biggest A-hole. Running the company Quantic Dream, most regarded for their game Detroit: Become Human, the company, Cage, and another key member have been under investigation for years, for mistreating their employees, and violating contracts. Most famously with Elliot Page, back before when he was known as Ellen Page, as the game Beyond: Two Souls, did have a fully nude model that for a time could be hacked to be visible in the game, which was a violation of the contract Elliot had signed at that time. Other accusations include, bullying, anti-woman rights shown in the work place, and harassment of employees, namely of the female variety. This isn’t mere speculation either, as Quantic Dream did a few years back, lose a case against a former employee in court, and if one thing most people have learned about abuse or mistreatment of others these days, is that if there’s one case, there’s probably more. While things have been quiet on this front in light of COVID-19, the investigation, is still on-going.
4. Randy Pitchford.
The laundry list of offenses this man has committed should have seen him end up in jail, but money talks, and he settled his crimes out of court. What crimes did he commit you ask? Let me see if I can remember everything. He, supposedly had child pornography on a flash drive, for which he was acquitted, with that never being shown in a way that can be confirmed or denied, he refused to work with Troy Baker on Borderlands 3 who played Rhys in Tales from the Borderlands, because Troy has joined the closest thing to a union within voice acting, which meant Pitchford would have had to follow certain guidelines, that he wasn’t willing to, he stole 12 million dollars meant to be bonuses for employees of Take Two after completing Borderlands 2, and the opening funds for Borderlands 3, which he seemingly used to pay off his court case, he assaulted Claptrap’s original VA when they were still working together, and refused to bring him back in Borderlands 3 because he wouldn’t do the voice for free after leaving like he had before, he refused to pay a musician for work done on Duke Nukem Forever, and while not nearly as heinous as the rest of these, refuses to acknowledge that any criticism against Alien: Colonel Marines is legitimate. So yeah, complete A-whole. Kind of makes you wonder how people like this stay in the industry, instead of in jail where they belong.
3. Todd Howard.
Todd Howard, is to put it lightly, a habitual liar, and often tries to play up his good guy persona while lying through his teeth. Fallout 76 is a key example of how he can lie, as just about everything he said about the game when it was announced, was untrue, though he’s used to that as he also lied about Skyrim, Fallout 4, Elder Scrolls Blades, Elder Scrolls online, seemingly favoring single player games while 76 was still not known to the public, the list goes on. Todd Howard, for as bad as his voice is for it, is basically the hype man for everything major Bethesda does, and usually seems to be in charge for finding a fall guy when his lies don’t come to fruition. It’s not really shocking per-say that he lies, but man, it would be nice if he could just tell the truth, if anyone could believe anything he says. Never, have I heard so many untrue things said about a game from one man, and yet, you literally have to question everything that comes out of his mouth, and assume all of it is overplayed nonsense, because Bethesda seemingly pays him to try and make us believe that he can say anything of factual value. But alas, he can’t, he even lied about the paid mods controversies Bethesda tried to pull, both times they did it, and nothing came of it. Someone who cannot seem to tell the truth, should not be in this industry.
2. Marcin Iwinski.
This may not be a name instantly recognizable to many, but Marcin is co-founder of CD Projekt Red, and is it’s most prolific liar. Unlike other CEO’s who have people below them spread lies so fans go after them instead of the guy at the top, Marcin has been Cyberpunk 2077′s voice in a manner of speaking, as he was the one told all of us the lies surrounding the game. He tells people what to say about the game, so he’s responsible for the lies made to retailers, fans, and of course Sony and Microsoft, and he even tried to get ahead of a piece written by Jason Schreier, with a non-apology that was actually more damage control for the horrible release of Cyberpunk 2077. While he’s by no means the only person who has committed these sorts of acts in this industry, his recent example of what a CEO will do to save face for his company, regardless of much BS there is within, makes him a prime target for fans to show those who run massive game companies, that lying to people for years, be it about how a game is running, or how it’s being made, shout out to all those people he said weren’t crunching, and then trying to downplay it when we found out, is not okay. Letting people like that go, only incites more to do the same.
1. Andrew Wilson.
Yet another name you might not know off the top of your head, Andrew Wilson is the CEO of EA, a company that is so corrupt under his watch, that they tried to break Belgium gambling laws because they just...thought they were above it? I don’t know the whole story there, but I do know that EA, under his run as CEO, clearly thinks it can do anything it wants, and feels like they can lie about whatever they choose, regardless of how poorly it reflects on the industry, or how it hurts smaller developers just trying to turn their passion into a career. Killing off beloved studios like Visceral games, Black Box Studios, Origin, and Playfish to name just a few, EA has become the killer of studios, and every time Andrew Wilson’s face is on screen, smart people began to worry. Mr. Surprise Mechanics himself may not have committed any crimes that we know of (aside from again, breaking Belgium law because he thought he could get away with it), nor has he lied his way to success in the public, but killing off studios loved by all in order to force everyone under his employ to mainly focus on games as a service, a move that is more harmful than good in the industry, is cause enough for him to be forced out.
And that’s my list, what did you think? It’s not often someone actually calls people out in this industry, and I honestly think more people need to do it so there’s some of that. Let me know if you can think of anyone else who deserves being a swift kick out the door, reblog this if it interested you, and feel free to leave a note.
Time Will Tell: Part Three
note: this is for @peppermintschnappss , who requested a part three (read part ONE and TWO here) so here we go, enjoy :)
words: 3k
warnings: swearing, smut
“The jury finds the defendant not guilty of the accused charges.“
Hearing the verdict felt like the biggest weight had just dropped off your shoulders, you were so relieved that you could barely make out the judge dismissing the court over the sound of your pulse hammering in your ears.
You had just won your first case for your new employer, it had been the first client you had dealt with all on your own, a case of alleged tax fraud, and you had nailed it.
With a big smile on your face, you quickly congratulated your client and, after a short talk with the prosecutor, made your way out of the courtroom, a spring in your step.
Just before you reached the door, the sound of a familiar voice behind you made you stop in your tracks.
“You did it, champ.”
Turning around, you came face to face with your colleague, but more importantly, boyfriend, Chris.
You were surprised to see him, and immediately threw your hands around his neck to kiss him, not caring about the fact that you were technically still in the court room.
“Chris, what are you doing here? Did you watch the trial?” You asked after breaking the kiss.
“Of course I did. It was your first one for the firm, I wouldn’t miss it for the world. Actually, I’m here to pick you up. We’re celebrating.”
+++
“You did this all by yourself?”
You took in the living room of Chris apartment with wide eyes. He had put up a beautiful dinner table, and there was a delicious smell coming from the kitchen.
“You’re such a sap.” You said, a bit choked up. „Thank you so much, baby. “
“Only for you, superstar.” Chris replied, leaning down to kiss you deeply. You wrapped your arms around his neck and pressed your body to his. He was warm and solid, and when his hands wandered down to squeeze your ass, dinner wasn’t your top priority anymore.
"Do you think we can maybe re-heat the food later?” You gasped against Chris lips, pulling his shirt out of his trousers to run your hands over his abs.
“Fuck, yes.” he murmured, grabbing your hand and dragging you to the bedroom.
+++
“Oooh here she comes, trying for the outside jump.” Chris exclaimed, before bursting out laughing as you totally missed the hoop.
“Sweetheart, I‘m so sorry, but that was pathetic.”
You flipped him the bird, running to collect the ball and throwing it at Chris with all the force you could manage. He effortlessly caught it and shot it through the hoop like it was nothing.
“Show-off.” you murmured, sitting down on the bench on the side of the basketball court. You were done, Chris had tried to teach you his favorite game for hours now, but you didn’t manage to make any progress. You just weren’t cut out for ball sports.
“Don’t beat yourself up, baby. It took me forever when I first started playing.” Chris said, slumping down next to you and wrapping his arm around your shoulder to pull your close.
“Stop it, im gross and sweaty.” You giggled, trying to push him away, but he just laughed and pressed a kiss to your head. His laugh was your favorite sound in the world, so you stopped wriggling and leaned against his shoulder.
“Who taught you to play like that anyway?” you asked, looking up and noticing a far away look on Chris‘ face.
“My dad did.” He said, his voice oddly quiet now. “It was our favorite activity when I was a teenager.” He paused for a moment, and you decided to wait and let him speak. “For a long time, it basically was our only one. You know, with him being governor and everything, he wasn’t around a lot, or had any free time.”
“I’m sorry, Chris.” you whispered.
“It’s alright.” He dismissed you, still sounding a bit strained. “My big brother stepped up for a lot of stuff, you know. Homework, making sure I didn’t get in trouble, he even helped me with my college applications and everything. He’s an ass most off the time, but I still love him, and I’m grateful for everything he has done for me.” He chuckled. “But he can’t play basketball for shit.”
“Sounds like he and I have something in common then.” You noted, trying not to sound awkward. The topic of Chris’ family was still foreign terrain, you hadn’t met them yet, and had decided to give Chris space and wait for him to bring it up himself. You were also slightly nervous, because there was no way Chris hadn’t told them about you, his college nemesis.
Deciding to change the topic and cheer your boyfriend up, you picked up the ball again.
“Do you still have enough energy for another round, Cuomo?” You asked smugly. “If you’d rather go home and take a nap, just say so, would be totally fine.”
Chris laughed, and snatched the ball right out of your hands with ease. You were happy to see him lighten up.
“Please, as if playing against you would require any energy.”
+++
The topic of Chris childhood didn’t come up for another few weeks, you had noticed that he avoided talking about it and were wise enough not to pressure him.
Everything was going fine until Chris lost a big case for a very high-end client. The man had clearly been guilty, and not even your boyfriend had been able to get him out, despite his talent as an attorney.
It was the talk off the whole firm the next day, Chris hadn’t lost a case in ages, and never such an important one. He had been on edge ever since the trial, but it was what happened in the morning meeting that made him snap.
The reason was Smith, another associate and Chris’ number one opponent for the spot of the next junior partner of the firm. You hated the guy, he was vile and clearly only in it for the money. He couldn’t keep his mouth shut, and started to attack Chris during the morning meeting.
“Great job you did yesterday, Cuomo.” he snarled, his voice sounding through the whole conference room. “I wonder how many clients your incompetence will cost us. People are already talking.”
You could feel Chris going rigid beside you and carefully put your hand on his back in an attempt to calm him.
“Don’t let him get to you.” You whispered “He wants to rile you up.”
When the man continued to speak, you could see Chris’ jaw going tense, which was never a good sign.
“Seriously, boss, Cuomo is a basket case, how is he still working for us after that fuck-up? Oh, wait, I know it, I’m sure daddy pulled some strings for his little boy.”
You couldn’t prevent what was happening next. Chris surged forward with a angry growl, already taking a swing at the guy.
“Shut your fucking mouth!” he hissed, backing Smith up against a wall. He was considerably larger, and the fearful expression on the guys face paired with Chris raised fist made chaos break loose as multiple people were trying to get him away from the smaller man.
“Gentlemen, stop this!” your boss thundered over the agitated voices of your fellow coworkers “Smith, see me right away. I won’t tolerate this kind of behavior. Cuomo, take a walk and then get to work. Come to my office after you’re done tonight.”
Chris gave Smith another deadly stare before storming out of the room. You shot your boss an anxious glance, but he just nodded, signalling you to go after Chris.
You hastily followed your boyfriend, only to see him disappear into his office at the end of the hallway. Carefully, you approached the closed door and entered without knocking.
Chris was slumped in his chair, face buried in his hands. Seeing him like this made you want to go back and punch Smith in his stupid face.
“Hey.” you whispered, gently reaching out to put your hand on Chris shoulder.
He raised his head, and the look of fury and sadness in his eyes almost broke your heart.
"Fuck, I should not have lost control like this back in there.” he said “But this guy has been testing me for so long now, always with the same bullshit.”
He got up from his chair and started pacing around the small room.
“You know how often I’ve heard this crap before, Y/N? That I’m just where I am because of my family name? That my father paved the way for everything I’ve ever succeeded in?”
You swallowed, a churning feeling in your stomach. You knew exactly what he was talking about, because for years you’ve been one of the main people saying just that. You wanted to speak, but Chris interrupted you.
“Those people out there, they know nothing about me. They don’t know how it was to have a father who was absent all the time, to be constantly teased in school. To be ripped out of the life you knew to move to fucking Albany, this stupid one horse town where everyone knew your name, and go to this school full of pricks who all made fun of me and bullied me because of my family. I never asked to be in the fucking spotlight.”
By now, Chris was almost screaming, and there was a kind of emotion in his voice you’ve never heard before, he sounded desperate and sad in a way that made tears well up in your eyes.
“Still, I worked my ass off in that stupid school, and I got into Yale. Only for people to say the exact same shit about me again, and this drags through my whole life, Y/N. I can never get rid of this, I avoided politics and tried to do my own thing here, but everything I’ll ever be to people is the son of the fucking governor, who in their eyes, never worked a day in his life.”
You were frozen to your spot, just watching Chris through a veil of tears. Guilt and dread were clawing in your stomach, it had never occurred to you that all the things you said in the past had not only been far from the thruth, but had also hurt Chris so profoundly. He had always seemed so cool and unfazed during your arguments.
“Chris.” You began. “You’re more to me. You’re a brilliant attorney, the boss has talked about how great you are at the job the second I arrived here and hasn’t stopped since. Smith is jealous because he knows he’ll never reach your level, not as a lawyer and much less as a person. You are kind, and the most intelligent and dedicated man I know. You’re everything I always thought you weren‘t, and that I am one of the people who hurt you this way makes me sick. I cant even begin to tell you how sorry I am for being so shallow.”
You were crying now, tears rolling down your face. Chris looked devastated, hurrying to you to pull you into a tight embrace.
“I’ve forgiven you a long time ago, baby. You’ve been my rock ever since we’ve met again, and that makes up for every silly row we had in college.” He pressed a kiss to your hair, and you sighted, nuzzling your face into his chest, your tears soaking into his dress shirt.
“You probably have to change this.” You whispered, tugging on a wet patch on the fabric.
“I have a spare one in here, don’t worry.” Chris replied, taking your face into his hands to kiss you deeply. “We’re not the people we used to be, Y/N. Don’t beat yourself up, and I’ll try to do the same, promise.”
+++
Soon afterwards, you had to leave to meet up with a client for your current case. You had been running around the whole day without a break, and without hearing anything from Chris.
It was almost eight by now, and you were starting to get worried. Pacing your living room, you were anxiously waiting for Chris to arrive. He had told you to not wait up at the firm but promised to come to your apartment as soon as his talk with the boss was over.
The sign of the bell made you spin around and run to your door, yanking it open. Chris was standing outside your apartment, and the big smile on his face erased your anxiety in a heartbeat.
“You’re looking at a freshly promoted junior partner, sweetheart.” He grinned, and whatever he wanted to say next was interrupted by you throwing yourself at him, wrapping your arms around his neck with a squeal.
“Oh my god, baby, congratulations.” You exclaimed, pressing a kiss to his lips. “Tell me everything!”
Chris followed you into your flat, discarding his suit jacket and letting himself fall onto your couch.
“I still haven’t fully realized what happened.” He began. “I was sure the boss would kick my ass for the way I behaved this morning, maybe even suspend me for a while. But he just told me off really quickly, and then he started talking about how that case I lost was impossible to win anyway, and how good my work has been for the past years. And then he offered me the junior partner position, just like that. I accepted of course.”
He smiled, and there was a mischievous glint in his eyes. “I can’t wait to rub that into Smiths stupid face. One of the paralegals told me he got a big ass whooping by the boss after the meeting this morning.”
"Serves him right, that little asshole.” You replied, before leaning over to kiss Chris again. “I’m so proud of you, you deserve this like no one else. Now that I think about it, how does champagne sound?”
“Wow, so were going to be fancy tonight?” Chris chuckled.
“If you becoming a junior partner doesn’t call for champagne, what does?” you responded, getting up to fetch the drinks from the kitchen.
You handed Chris a glass and clinked your own against his. “To you, Mr. Big Shot lawyer.”
The champagne sent a pleasant, fuzzy feeling through your stomach, and you let your eyes fall on your boyfriend, taking in how good he was looking in the warm light of the room.
“You know, I always had a thing for attorneys.” You murmured, setting down your glass to put your hands on Chris chest.
Chris laughed, and set his glass aside as well, leaning down to whisper in your ear. “Is that so, huh? Well today is your lucky day then, I just got promoted and I’m in the mood to celebrate.”
His hot breath sent a shiver down your spine, and you tilted your head, exposing your neck to Chris, who instantly started kissing and sucking the smooth skin. You moaned softly and started to unbutton Chris shirt with shaking fingers.
“Bedroom?” he asked, and you nodded enthusiastically, taking his hand to pull him to the other room. Both of you quickly shed your clothes before you dropped to your knees in front of Chris, closing your lips around his already hard cock.
“Jesus, Y/N.” he murmured, stroking your hair as you fully took him into your mouth. “So perfect, baby.”
You wrapped you hand around the base of his length, stroking him while moving your head up and down. Suddenly, Chris hand grabbed your hair and softly pushed you away.
“If you keep it up like that, this will be over soon, and I’m not done with you, sweetheart. Get on the bed, baby.”
You quickly complied, laying down on the duvet and looking up at Chris expectantly.
He climbed on top of you and started stroking your inner thighs with his fingers, softly nudging your legs apart.
“I bet youre already wet for me, baby.” He murmured, voice smooth and dark as his fingers dipped between your legs. “I knew it.”
“Chris.” You whined at the feeling of his fingers brushing over your clit. “Fuck me, please.”
“Patience, baby.” Chris replied and continued to tease you, softly circling your bud with increasing pressure until you were sobbing, legs shaking as you fell apart under his touch.
While you were still riding out your climax, Chris slid between your legs and pushed into you. You cried out as he started to move, you were still so sensitive that you could feel yourself already approaching the next orgasm.
“Shit, baby, you’re tight, I’m not gonna last.” Chris grunted, his thrusts were already getting more erratic.
“Let go, baby.” You whispered, your voice breaking as you reached your peak again, pulling Chris with you this time.
+++
Afterwards, you laid next to each other, Chris arm loosely slung around you as you played with a lock of his hair. His blue eyes found yours, and you had to smile, your heart fluttering when he smiled back at you.
“It’s funny.” Chris suddenly said, “So many things happened today, but the only thing I care about right now is that you’re here with me.”
He propped himself up on his elbow to properly look at you.
“I would’ve never thought that this” he gestured between the two of you “could happen.”
“Not in a thousand years.” You agreed, laughing softly.
Chris face got serious, and he reached out to softly stroke your cheek.
“If you want, I’d like to introduce you to my family this weekend, Y/N. You know that I’m a private person and talking about emotions isn’t exactly my strong suit. But you make me really happy, and I want everyone to know.”
“I’d love to meet them.” You whispered, and the smile that took over Chris face made you forget your nervousness.
Everything would be fine.
Izumi’s little sister! Reader. Pt. 4. Street act and thoughts
-
“Wait, you mean THAT'S why everyone keeps Masumi from talking to me?”
Izumi laughed awkwardly inside her coat, small clouds coming out of her mouth due to the cold. “It's fine, Y/N. He’s a good kid and most of the time it only gets a bit weird.”
“Most of the time?”
“Anyway!" Izumi clapped her hands and looked at you with a big grin. "I'm so excited you are staying tonight. We should have done this sooner!"
You raised your eyebrows. It was as clear as day she was trying to get out of the conversation. Sighing, you decided to humor her and let it aside for now. “Are you sure it’s fine though? You said the winter troupe was rehearsing for the upcoming perf-”
“Of course it’s fine! Everyone was delighted when I told them you were coming,” she insisted as you both crossed the Veludo district. “Besides, thanks to you we’ll even get to have curry sooner than I counted for!" as she lifted some bags, you couldn’t help but laugh at her expression.
“You look more excited about the spices and ingredients I brought than me staying over, you know”
“Hey! Not true" Izumi pushed you lightly with her hips, making stumble and giggle. You had been sceptic, but it felt nice having some sibling quality-time with your sister again.
A few minutes later, you two finally arrived at the dorm’s entrance. Izumi took out the key to enter when someone slammed the door so loud you even let out a shrill screech.
“Yes! Yes, I am deeply sorry!” you blinked with a mixture of worry and wonder at the manager of Mankai talking on the phone feeling a deja vu. How could someone bow so fast while moving around? “Of course! Yes, I'm already on my way!"
“Matsukawa-san?!” Izumi called out worriedly, but he was already out of her reach. The man did seem to hear her though, turning slightly but not stopping.
“Everything’s fine, director! Please don’t worry, I’ll make sure…!”
Neither of you got to hear the end of the sentence, the silhouette of the man getting smaller and smaller. You saw your sister looking at the distance with a tired expression “You don’t look surprised”
Izumi shook her head at your comment, pulling the door knock and allowing you to enter “If I had to question everything that happens around here I... Anyway, let's-“
“Here comes the tour guide! Here comes so don’t move another step!”
She pressed the bridge of her nose.
-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-
“Ah, welcome back you two,” you heard Omi’s voice coming from the kitchen as Izumi opened the lounge door with you behind. “You arrived just in time. I’m finishing some scones.”
“Omi-kun, did Matsukawa-san say…”
“Y/N-pi!” Kazunari’s voice vibrated from the living room’s couches. “Come here, we missed you! I’m sure you’re looking as bomb as always though!”
“Took you long enough, Wild Currian Performer.”
Tenma turned to you as well to talk but stopped halfway. “What the hell.”
Looking up, you were thinking the same. Kamekichi had yet to move from your head “Uh, thank you for… bringing me inside.”
The bird flapped its wings vigorously. “Of course, took you long enough! I am the tour guide!” after that, he took fly and left.
You stared at the hallway visibly confused. What was up with this dorm.
“Wait, was he waiting at the entrance all this time?” a blond man with a phone frowned from the couch. “No wonder I couldn’t find him to bring me- shit, advertisements,” he groaned, glancing at you and then turning his attention back to the screen. “Anyway, nice to meet you in person, Y/N-san. Although Citron and Sakuya talk so much about you I feel like I was there the first time.”
“Uh… thanks?”
As if summoned, the spring leader popped his head into the room “I heard the door, did- Y/N-san! Welcome back, I’m so happy you could come to visit us again!”
You smiled at the boy.
“Okay everyone, help yourselves, there’s more if you want.” Omi walked towards the table and left the plate of scones in the middle, allowing everyone to grab a piece.
You took one, humming delightedly at the sweet flavor. The autumn member chuckled “Would you like anything special for tonight’s dinner, Y/N?”
“Ah, we already covered that, Omi-kun! Y/N brought spices from home, this curry will feel so nostalgic!”
All the actors in the room flinched.
“I see…”
“F in the chat. Why am I not surprised” Itaru mused to himself.
“I-I am sure it’s really good…!”
“You two really are family uh…no, wait!” Tenma shook his head. “Forget about curry!”
“Hey! What’s with everyone dissing curry?” you frowned as you cleaned the rest of the crumbs from the scone, raising your eyes to everyone in the room.
“That’s not what I mean” he rubbed his forehead. You and director were too alike. At your confused stare, he pointed at you indignant “You owe me a street act, remember?”
“Ah, that!” taking another scone and biting it, you nodded. You hadn’t really done street acts before, but you would lie if you said you weren’t interested. “Sure, if you still want?”
“You bet I do.”
He had heard Taichi and Juza commenting on your acting during that autumn rehearsal too- there was no way he would pass the opportunity to test it himself.
“U-um!” Sakuya stood up, his eyes shining “If you are going out to do a street act, I’d like to join too!”
You tilted your head at the boy, curious why he seemed so eager. Didn’t they usually do acts outside?
“All right then, let’s do this.”
Tenma smirked walking towards the door, looking somewhat excited too. Well, they wouldn’t be living in a theatre dorm if they didn’t enjoy acting after all, you concluded shrugging it off.
“GG guys.”
“Tenten, do your best!”
“Yeah, try not to embarrass yourself, hack.”
“What does that mean?!”
-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-
By the time you all three walked out of the dorm, jackets and everything on, the sun had started to set up. You shivered. Maybe you should have brought more clothes.
“Was the winter troupe in rehearsals?” you turned to the troupe leaders walking alongside you “Izumi told me they are doing a mystery play of some kind.”
“Yeah, Hisoka-san is the lead and whenever he’s not sleeping he’s pretty good… so they’ve been going all out.”
Sakuya agreed at Tenma’s statement “I’m excited to see them perform!”
As you all continued sharing some light talk, you arrived at Veludo. Looking around, one could see winter was almost there. There weren’t many kids around, just adults and teens returning home walking faster than usual given the time and cold weather.
A bit later, you finally decided to stop on a roundabout next to a fountain to perform.
“What do you guys usually do?”
“We normally just pick a theme and go along with it!” the spring member answered smiling while Tenma stretched. “Do you have anything you’d like to do, Y/N-san?”
You looked around humming. You weren’t usually given the freedom to choose so nothing really came to mind except… “How about doing something similar to the winter troupe? There are not many people around, but maybe we can engage them.”
Sakuya might as well have started jumping.
“A winter-like street act sounds perfect! I don’t think I’ve ever done something similar to what they do. What do you think, Tenma-kun?”
“Not bad. Let’s go with mystery for our theme.”
“Wait, I know I just said that but if the point of a mystery is to solve it, shouldn’t we plan how to-”
Ignoring you, Tenma walked to the middle of the road and turned to you and Sakuya knowingly. His eyes shone with expectations.
You frowned confused still. None of you hadn’t decided anything, was he really-
“You can’t be serious!” Tenma’s tone of voice changed, cutting through the somewhat calm street like a knife. You also noticed his whole demeanour turning hostile, making people look his way. "I have better things to do than wait here to be murdered!”
Even faster than you had anticipated, Sakuya ran to him. "P-please wait, uncle Miles! I won’t move from here until I know who killed my brother. I’m sure the detective must have a reason for having us stay here!"
“Oh?”
“What’s this, a play?”
“Hey, these guys are from Mankai!”
As expected, people stopped noticing the performance.
You felt a thrill in your stomach, engines already turning inside your head. So you had indirectly gotten the part of the detective and therefore in charge of being the one to solve it uh.
Walking slowly, building anticipation, you placed yourself in front of them, blocking out the noise.
Tenma and Sakuya were awaiting, as well as the crowd surrounding you now and it was a strange feeling, if you were honest. Who knew what their next sentences would be after you spoke? You had no idea what could happen, and somehow, that made you smile. This really was a street act.
And so, you chuckled dryly but with elegance “I can assure you, gentlemen, this won't be a problem.”
She’s good. "HA!” Tenma crossed his arms, looking grim “Bet this is just another plot, typical of Marshall and his-”
“Uncle, please!”
And so, it began.
You didn’t notice how long you had this push and pull of allegories, fake names or places. At this point you were just a detective in charge of solving the death of Marshall Jones, a fraud who had been the successor of the Jones Industries.
...And that the biggest suspects were the two people in front of you; his younger brother, William Jones and their uncle, Mr Miles.
“This is stupid, I have men working for me on the government! They will turn a blind eye if I command it I-!”
“Just tell us who did it! I need to know who killed Marshall!” Sakuya trembled anxiously.
You just nodded calmly at both of them “You are right. This has taken too long and I apologize for it.”
Tenma and Sakuya both held their breaths. Acting with you was being a mental workout to keep up, but none of them could dismiss the thrill that came with it.
“However, I feel like I shouldn’t be the only one apologizing. Isn’t that right, Marshall?”
‘What?’
Confused, Tenma followed your pointing finger towards the crowd, and Sakuya almost let a gasp when a shadow made his way towards them. The crowd whispered furiously at the sudden change of flow of the act.
‘M-Misumi-san?!’
‘Since when was he there?!’
While they stared at the summer member, Misumi didn’t look that surprised, to which you inwardly breathed in relief.
Everyone’s eyes laid on him, his attitude perfect for the act, gloomy and mysterious.
Nothing like the happy young man who had wanted to show you triangles the first time you met "I was wondering if you would call out for me at some point, detective."
"Thought I would let you enjoy yourself for a while" you shrugged, and Misumi laughed huskily at your comment.
“Thank you for taking the job.”
“Yeah, yeah. Next time just try to not hide in such a melodramatic way.”
“B-brother? Is that really you…?" Sakuya walked slowly to Misumi, almost making it look like he was about to break into a cry.
Tenma took advantage of the situation to step in. He wasn’t about lose there "Y-you were supposed to be dead! I made sure of-!" he stopped half-way, covering his mouth. "Shit."
“Turns out you should have stayed in the room to check the works of the poison, Mr. Miles.” you made it look like you pulled two sets of handcuffs “As tender as this familiar reunion after death might be, I'm afraid you will have to accompany me. You are both been placed on a charge of murder… and inflicted fraud.”
And scene.
A few seconds passed and you swallowed. Had this been too much?
As soon as the first stupor faded, the now quite big surrounding crowd erupted in applause.
“T-that was amazing!”
“Wait, what?!”
“Didn't think another actor would be hiding!”
“That was Mankai, right? Wanna check their next performance?”
After thanking the audience, you hurried to the boy with a triangular earring, embarrassment running through you, noticing now what you had done. “I-I’m sorry for pulling you in! My body moved on its own and when I saw you…”
Tenma just scoffed, but you could tell he was proud. “Yeah, well- if there’s someone who shouldn’t have any problem with what you just did, it’s him.”
“It really was great!” Sakuya approached you both. “I almost broke character for a second there. Where you watching the whole time, Misumi-san?”
“Not really! I was looking for triangles and then I heard Tenma’s voice… and when I got closer I saw you guys acting!”
“Still, sorry for...”
“Mhm! It’s okay, it’s okay!” suddenly, Misumi started patting your head. “Good job, detective Y/N.”
You felt a blush rush to your cheeks at the touch and so you stepped back, laughing embarrassed. “I-I was also surprised how good everyone is! I mean of course you are, you guys are real actors but-”
"Let’s do another one."
“Uh?” you squeezed your eyes at Tenma. Maybe you hadn’t heard correctly. “But we just-“
“We have time. Misumi, you stay too."
“Okayyyy!”
Turning back to Sakuya the boy laughed nervously, but didn’t look surprised.
Ah, you were so screwed.
-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-
The streetlights started lighting up when you made a decision to finally head back to the dorm.
“That was great!” Sakuya was moving as if he had received a burst of energy “It’s so much fun acting with people outside Mankai, isn’t it!”
“Everyone’s applauses were really suuuper loud too!”
“…and you say you only go sometimes to your theatre club?" Tenma saw you nod and shoved his hands into the pockets of his winter coat, groaning. "Just what's up with people like you and Misumi?"
"Hmh? Y/N and I are similar? Yaaaayy!"
"Misumi? it didn't sound like a compliment to me."
Sakuya laughed at the exchange. It truly had been an amazing experience. "Did you do theatre with director when you two were younger?"
You hummed, thinking about it. To be honest, theatre had always been around but you hadn’t really... When was it that you started acting again?
A scream stopped your train of thought.
"M-Misumi-san?!"
“You scared the daylights out of me, Misumi!"
Turning to the young man, you noticed him making a triangle with his hands and, while using it as a telescope, suddenly speeding up the pace. "It's a triangular cloud!"
"Misumi-san, please don't follow the cloud, we’ll be late for dinner!"
"Tri-triangle, tri-tri-triangle…!"
"Oi Misumi, quit singing and stop! I know you can hear us!"
Watching the interaction, you couldn't help but laugh, running after them.
They were a weird bunch… but in an endearing kind of way.
-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-
“Oh? If it isn’t our cute Y/N” Azuma smiled softly as you all walked in.
“Did you guys go do street acts?” Tasuku lifted his head from the script in his hands. Sakuya nodded eagerly at the older actor, explaining the performances and the audience reaction.
Tsumugi laughed after the spring leader finished. “Seems like you all enjoyed yourselves out there.”
“Ah, youth! If only time would let us stop our bodies to enjoy the real pass of time of our souls!”
“Arisu… you’re annoying...”
“Okay everyone, let’s call the rest and start plating everything, okay?
You spent the rest of the night with the majority of the dorm.
You had a banter with Masumi about not giving your blessing, being cut by Citron’s weird proverbs and him being at the same time stopped by Tsuzuru. You laughed at Banri’s and Juza’s not so passive aggressive comments, heard some more stories about everyone and of course, you talked about acting and performances.
You shook your head amused. They really were acting addicts.
By the end of dinner, you excused yourself to go to the bathroom.
Closing your eyes, you splashed water in your face, deep in thought. “Living in this dorm must be amazing though…”
They all seemed to work so hard on any act they did… that it confused you. Izumi had always been insistent about you doing theatre and, while you appreciated it, you never took it seriously.
You enjoyed it, sure, but was it maybe because it came naturally to you? …What if you chose to act for real and then didn’t feel the same way after seeing the bad aspects of it?
Your mother was another matter too. She had made it clear she wouldn’t say anything, but you could tell it didn’t… exactly enthusiasm her. She barely mentioned Izumi’s work at home.
However, acting with everyone in Mankai had been fun. Every time.
Even you were surprised. Just how many street acts had you done after the first one today? You hadn’t practiced that much improv in a long time, not even in your theatre club.
It wasn't as of you didn't enjoy your own theatre activities, but surely there had to be a reason why you found yourself so awestruck by everyone here.
Or maybe not. Your mind was a mess. Closing the bathroom door, you sighed before noticing a figure walking towards you.
“Hey, I got the money ”
Without skipping a beat, you ‘tch’ed at Tenma. “First you’ll have to show me the body.”
“I have to see the money,” he pointed at you with his chin.
“First the body… or yours.” A few seconds passed and you both finally sneered. Tenma sighed, shaking his head.
“Thought I could get past you, dammit. You really should consider acting.”
Bullseye.
“Actually- Tenma, I was thinking” you faltered. “Um, did you… always want to be an actor?”
“Well- I was pretty much always in the industry since I was young, so yeah, I’d say so?”
“You never thought it could have been your parent… you know, telling you how you had talent what might have made you start acting?”
The summer leader thought about it, looking at the ceiling. However, he soon shrugged “If so, what?” noticing your confusion, he kept talking. “I mean, I guess they did have some influence… but in the end it was me who decided to stay. For me, not for them.”
You nodded. That made sense.
“Why the question?”
“Ah, nothing it’s just- I think Izumi tends to overreact saying I am like dad, you know, with acting and all. I didn’t think much about it until these acts made me feel…”
“Fulfilled?” The summer leader finished for you. Seeing he was right by looking at your face, he shrugged again in response. “I don’t know Yukio-san to say you are a copy of him, but yeah, you are good. Still though, you should do what you want above everything else.”
You nodded again.
You both headed back to the living room as a heated karaoke discussion between Citron and Banri while a few others tried to act as mediators.
Izumi turned to you and smiled “Everything okay?”
You faced her. The thoughts about acting and theatre could wait. As Tenma said, you didn’t have to rush and for now. You decided to let it aside and enjoy the warm feeling of being reunited with your sister and her weird, but lovable group of actors.
You took her hand and squeezed it. “Yup!”
A New Life Ch. 9
Work Chaos
Yancy stuck to Illinois’ side as they followed Wilford into a very large room, the door opening to the sights and sounds of organized chaos;
The room only had a long table and a few couches as furniture, the decor was just different kinds of maps and marked clocks on the walls, showing the layout and times of everywhere in the world.
Wilford made his way over to one end of the table where JJ, Yandere, Bim, Jackie, and Chase were at. Wilford gave JJ a kiss on the cheek and grabbed one of the many guns and started looking over it. Yandere giggled as she talked in a soft voice to Bim, casually sharpening a knife that was almost as big as her face. Bim was doing the same with a much smaller blade. Chase and Jackie were chatting as well. Chase was loading bullets into a gun while Jackie wrapped the handle of a blade with dark tape.
“Hello!” JJ greeted as Yancy and Illinois walked over to the table as well.
“This is...a lot,” Yancy commented.
“This isn’t even half of it.” Wilford laughed. “We have a lot more and scarier in the armory.” Wilford handed the gun he was looking at to Yancy. Yancy made a face and gave the gun to Illinois, who had no discomfort with holding it.
“We also have more fun stuff.” JJ placed a hand on top of the bowler hat he was wearing and took it off, twitching his hand and blades popped out from around the rim.
“The fuck?” Yancy curled while Illinois titled his head.
“Everything’s a weapon.” Wilford winked.
“Are you guys like the weapons department or something?” Illinois asked with a little laugh.
“You could say that,” Jackie answered with a shrug.
“Everyone’s got their own gig,” Chase added.
“Look around, check it out, you’ll end up somewhere.” Wilford went back to work.
“They’ll probably be in Mare’s group,” Bim said with a point towards the end of the room where the maps and clocks were. Mare, Mad, Phantom, and Marvin stood together, split into two groups while Mad and Marvin looked at the maps, and Phantom and Mare glanced at the clocks while they wrote.
“What makes you think that?” Illinois asked.
“Yancy is all about schedules and you know how to explore new places.” Yandere said bluntly.
“Why does everyone think-” Yancy stopped himself. “Whatever.” He huffed and walked away.
“Do you want this back?” Illinois held the gun towards Wilford. Wilford chuckled at himself and took the offered weapon. Illinois nodded before following Yancy.
“They’ll need to be sent first if they want the cover of night to help,” Mare said. “Oh, hey guys, you have fun talking with my brother’s boyfriend?” Mare said the last part with a look at Phantom.
“Not my boyfriend.” Phantom stated and took the paper Mare was writing on, adding his own notes to it.
“How is he not?” Mad joined the conversation, Marvin tacking along to enjoy the gossip. “You two were very close this morning.”
“We’re friends, Mad.” Phantom tore the paper out of the notebook and handed it to Marvin.
“You were really touchy for just friends,” Marvin said with a giggle.
“You can fuck and not be dating.” Phantom rolled his eyes. “It’s called friends with benefits.” Mad blinked and turned his head to watch how Illinois and Yancy reacted to that. Yancy looked down at the ground and rubbed his arm while Illinois kept a neutral face but Mad would feel that he was having almost the same thoughts as Yancy. Mad took note and stepped away to actually write it down.
“I give it a month,” Mare said
“A week.” Marvin corrected.
“I’m getting some, that’s it, nothing more.” Phantom blew a raspberry.
“So, what are you guys doing?” Illinois asked, wanting a change in conversation.
“We help with the whole mapping out the locations and making sure times line up,” Mare said.
“We prefer to do things in the night and night is at a different time around the world,” Marvin added.
“And there’s trouble.” Mare laughed as Robbie and Blank walked over to them, both holding the ends of a plastic bag.
“Paper pickup!” Robbie said with a loud giggle.
“You guys working hard?” Mare rubbed the top of Blank’s head, messing up his hair.
“Daddy!” Blank squealed, using his free hand to swat away Mare’s
“We work very hard!” Robbie puffed out his chest.
“Good.” Marvin did the same thing to Robbie’s hair by added a little kiss.
“Papa!” Robbie wiggled in protest.
“Papers for the shredders.” Phantom plopped a pile of paper into the bag.
“Thank!” Robbie perked up. “Gonna go ask daddy for more.” He added to Marvin before he and Blank took off. Yancy and Illinois watched the two rush off to Chase and saw that CJ and RJ were with Dark, who was sitting at the head of the table with Host, holding a bag just like Robbie and Blank were.
“I think I got this,” Illinois said. “Robbie, Blank, CJ, and RJ are in charge of shredding any documentation you have.”
“Anything paper really,” Mare said. “They want to help and it’s the safest thing for them to do since we rarely ever send them out of missions.”
“Marvin is Robbie’s papa, Chase is Robbie’s daddy, Mare is Blank’s daddy and Mad is…” Yancy was counting off his fingers as he spoke, letting his voice trail as he looked at Mad.
“I-” Mad just went stiff.
“He’s just Mad,” Mare answered for him. “I made Blank long before we were a thing.”
“Wait. Made him?” Illinois caught the phrasing.
“It’s compli-.” Mare caught himself. “Long story I can tell later.”
“I need to actually start writing all of this down,” Illinois said.
“My brain’s gonna explode.” Yancy started to chew on his cuticles.
“Oh!” Mad went over to a bag and pulled out what looked like a large red Lego. “Here.” Mad gave Yancy the Lego and Yancy found that it was solid.
“What?”
“It’s a Chewy.”
“What?”
“It’s something you can bite on to help with stimulation, anxiety, or nail-biting habits.” Mad reached down the collar of his shirt and showed he was wearing a purple one as a necklace.
“Oh...thanks.” Yancy flashed a polite smile.
“What does Dark and Host do during this?” Illinois asked.
“They just make sure everything is in order. We’re kind of working in separate groups and they check that we’re all on the same page.” Marvin said. “Technically Chase, Mare, and Google should be with them, but often forget.”
“Is that a diss to me, Google, or your husband?” Mare asked.
“Yes.” Marvin’s response got a loud laugh from Phantom.
“I think Henrik and Edward are making med-kits.” Illinois pointed as he spoke, the two he had mentioned sitting together on one of the couches, organizing bandages and gauze into packs.
“Interestin’.” Yancy hummed.
“So that just leaves Google, Bing, and Anti,” Illinois said.
“Does King not do any of this stuff with yous?” Yancy asked when he noticed his gym buddy wasn’t here.
“I’m shocked you know who he is.” Mare chuckled. “But no, not really, he’s not the biggest fan of this but does help if asked for specific things.”
“I’ll ask him about that,” Yancy said and went towards the last little group, not seeing the look of confusion Mare made. Illinois just ignored it and joined Yancy.
“Tech stuff?” Yancy asked, standing next to Bing.
“Hey, dudes!” Bing greeted. “And yeah! We got the tech stuff. Googs does a lot of the hacking, I take care of the social media stuff and Anti helps out with both.”
“So...what kind of ‘missions’ do you guys actually do?” Illinois finally asked.
“Depends on the pay.” Bing shrugged. “Assassination, reputation ruining, framing-”
“You guys kill for hire?” Illinois felt like he should have seen it coming but it was still strange.
“It’s one of the things we do.” Bing was too casual for Illinois’ taste.
“Yancy’s killed before, this should be nothing,” Google stated.
“No, no, no, what I did wasn’t this.” Yancy gestured with both arms. “I was a kid, I was defending myself.”
“Whatever helps you sleep,” Google said.
“Googs.” Bing nudged Google with an elbow. “Not cool.”
“Not cool?” Google repeated and chewed on his lip, thinking about what he had said.
“We got a hit.” Anti finally looked away from the laptop he had been typing on. “We have to move now or we miss it.” Anti saw Yancy and Illinois. “We’ll talk shit about Google together later.” He said with a wink before disappearing and reappearing beside Dark.
“Wrap up and head out,” Dark called out and he stood. “Yancy, Illinois, you may leave and continue with your day.”
“I need to work out,” Yancy grumbled and walked off.
“You just need to never talk to him.” Illinois scoffed at Google and left as well.
“I need to reread their files,” Google said while Bing rubbed his arm.
“You need to not be a dick,” Bing said with a little smile.
“I’m not trying to.”
“I know, we’ll work on it.”
Cold Snap: Chapter 2
Chapter 1|
*******
Dave was driving the ambulance down the towards the river road, approaching from the center of the city, when the call came through.
"All available units, major incident on river ferry, requesting all available units respond to docks nearest Tippers Point and North Inglebank." There was a pause as the technician dialed in straight to them. "3008, you're closest. Can you initiate triage protocols on scene?"
Dave looked at Lucy, who simply nodded, then picked up the radio receiver.
"3008 to control. We can do that. Do you have further details?" she asked.
"Not yet. You are to liaise with river patrol and assess the situation on scene. Use your judgement." The radio goes silent.
"That's a lot of help." Lucy sighs. The ambulance reaches the outskirts of the business district, turning onto the river road. Without skyscrapers in the way they can see the expanse of the river, the black plume of smoke clear and obvious, below it the water taxi, limping across the surface of the river. From this distance they could just make out people on the upper deck, waving their arms, and a speedboat, a red and blue strobing light flashing from a pole. Dave guided the ambulance between the traffic, which thankfully relented easily with everyone aware of their destination. He guided it off the road, onto the small dock.
They jumped out, already hearing other sirens approaching. Dave grabbed his radio, tuning to the emergency channel. "This is 3008, taking control of Inglebank incident." A properly trained team would be on their way, but that would be ten minutes. "All units report in upon arrival."
Lucy was looking out the imperiled boat. "I don't think she's going down. She's taken on water, but I don't think its totally fatal, not soon anywhere." She paused. "I should go out there."
Dave looked at her, seeing that she had thought it through, then simple raised the radio again. "Calling all river patrol, please divert 1 to North Inglebank Dock to take on medical passenger."
Jones held tight to some of the hand holds on the rim of the patrol boat as it bounced and skipped along the river towards The Beetle. He was able to make out the design of the boat. It was long, with a stepped profile. The passenger compartment rose two levels, to better look out across the river. Towards the front, he could see a wide interior staircase leading down to the proper deck, flanked by doors to the lower level. Towards the rear, a number of windows had been blown out of the lower deck, with smoke billowing forth. The smoke was thick and black, and also running into the upper deck. The product of incomplete burning. If there was a fire, it was most likely just smoldering the oils and grease that must have been within the engine bay. Fuel would be burning much hotter, and would have taken out much more of the boat. That didn't mean it couldn't change.
With the smoke filling the interior, all the passengers had escaped to the front deck. It was crowded, and agitated, but not a complete panic. Yet. As the patrol boat eased up next to the taxi, close to an access ladder, Jones threw out a rope to a man in a high vis jacket, expecting it be one of the crew. The fact he immediately tied off the rope was a decent sign Jones was right. Winton was talking on the radio, so he climbed the metal rungs, and pulled himself onto the deck, appealing for calm as he tried to make sense of the situation. He approached the crew member, seeing that he's an older man, with a white beard and matching hair.
"You are?" He asks.
"The captain, sir."
"Good. I’m officer Jones, what's the situation?"
"Catastrophic engine failure. Couldn't get eyes on but I don't think it's fixable. We're dead in the water."
Jones bit back a flash of anger. "Is the boat sinking right now?"
The captain sighs. "Yes, but slowly as far as we can tell. My lads are trying to get access, find out more, but as it stands, she'll stay on the surface for plenty long enough."
"Ok." Jones turns to the crowd. "Help is coming, so please stay calm, we'll get everyone to safety." He scanned the crowd, seeing plenty of bloodstains and dazed looks, but nothing too major.
* * *
Lucy had made a quick boarding onto the patrol boat that pulled up at their dock. Sirens had been approaching, but she trusted Dave to organise everything on this side. She double checked her bags as they skimmed across the surface, effectively deputising the one of the cops on board the patrol boat. She showed him a set of large colour coded tags. "We tag everyone!" She shouted over the sound of the motor. "Green for no signs of injury. Blue for cuts and scrapes. Yellow for broken bones, burns, anything you would expect to need treated." She explains each colour.
"Purple for conscious head injury, right?" The cop checked, having been part of major incident responses before now.
Lucy nodded in reply. "Anything worse, you point to me. Those will be priority one, understand?"
The cop gave her an acknowledgment, pocketting the stack of tags, and they made the rest of the journey in silence, both thinking about what they may find onboard the damaged vessel.
A few short minutes later they pulled up alongside The Beetle, other patrol boats backing off to allow them access to the ladder. Lucy climbed up first, not hesitating for a moment. Reaching the deck she saw that things were not as bad as she feared. There were plenty of injuries, but the fact everyone seemed to be sitting or standing, and no one immediately tried to grab her, suggested there was nothing critical.
She waved the cop she had commandeered towards the crowd of passengers, who she noticed were mostly organised into the correct categories anyway. She spied one cop who seemed to have taken charge, on the opposite side of the deck, marshalling kids onto a patrol boat, and headed over.
Shona’s ears rang. Her nostrils were filled with smoke. Where....What....
Sensation began to return. Her whole body ached with pains and pressure, but one pain kept growing and growing. Her leg. Her leg felt like a constant sharp pain, like a spear was jammed in it. She tried to open her eyes, but her vision swam, and a wave of nausea crashed over her. I took a moment for it to pass, before Shona tried to open her eyes again.
It was better, not by much, but not sickening. She was looking at whitewashed, decades old wooden boards. The ceiling of the lower cabin of the water taxi, and the doorless frame of the luggage compartment. That answered the where.
She started to look around, there was smoke, a lot of it, thick and black, flowing up the stairs. Something seemed off though. The smoke was rising at an angle, heading to the wall first. The boat wasn't level. It was tilted to one side. Which must mean. Sinking. The boat was sinking.
Instinctively she tried to move, to flee. But the pain seared through from her leg, and the rest of her could barely move either. She looked down, having avoided doing so up to now, only to see a whole luggage rack lying across her legs, pinning her, with smaller bags from the sides scattered over her top half. She could just see which bag was on her excruciatingly painful, almost certainly broken, leg. She almost laughed hysterically. It was her own.
The case prompted more details to came to mind. "Jack?!" She shouted, pushing away a couple of the smaller bags, trying to get a clearer view of the nearby floor. She saw him, crumpled in a heap, not far from her. They must have both been thrown down the stairs when the engine exploded. He wasn't pinned, but a trickle of blood ran from a cut in his scalp and he was clearly unconscious. "Jack!" She shouted again, grabbing a lighter bag, and throwing it at him. It had the desired reaction, he stirred, moving slightly and groaning.
His groan grew to a shout of pain as he pulled himself up. Shona watched him as he turned slightly, and she saw his right arm. More specifically she saw the bone sticking out of the skin above where he held it. She realised the implication immediately. There was no way he could help her remove all the bags. Especially not her own. "Jack!" She shouted again, trying to get his attention. He looked up, squinting slightly as he looked for who shouted his name. He was clearly dazed, working through things just like she had.
He looked around and Shona could see him piecing things together, before his head snapped back to her direction. "Shona? That you?" His voice was a little slurred
"Yes. Jack. Listen. I'm trapped. I need you to get help, to get these bags off me. I think the boat is sinking, so please hurry."
He squinted at her, shuffling forward on his knees. "Trapped?" He asked. "I..er...I can." His voice was off, still feeling the effects of the head injury.
"You can't. Your arm. Just go. Up the stairs, get help. Please!" Shona pleads, using short phrases in the hope it might help.
It seemed to work. Jack nodded. "OK... OK." He took a few deep breaths, reaching out with his good arm, grabbing the door frame of the luggage area. He pulled himself up, hissing with pain as he did so. His eyes found hers. "Hold on." He said.
She nodded. "Hurry..." She whispered. He nodded, then turned, stumbling towards the stairs on the listing floor, but reaching the stairs. He gripped the rail, then began to climb. A moment later he disappeared into the thick smoke, leaving Shona alone.
"Ok Winston, that's all the kids." Jones looked to the small faces, many with tears rolling down their cheeks despite reassurance their parents would be with them soon. "Winston here is going to take and nice and steady for you guys! If you ask nicely he'll tell you about all the fish he knows!" Jones looked pointedly at one of the older kids, a girl, maybe 15, who nodded at him.
"I think thats a great idea!" She said loudly."What's the biggest fish you've ever caught Mr. Winston?"
Winston gave Jones a quick salute, before setting the patrol boat in motion. "Well, that is a story! Have any of our been out to west? Into the lakes? It's be, oh, 10 years ago..." Jones turned away, almost colliding with the paramedic.
"Lucy Branthwaite. You in charge?" She asked, rather abrupt, an annoyed look on her face.
"Apparently. Matt Jones." He held up a hand, forestalling her. "I know what you're going to say. We checked them for injuries. Greens and blues only, but i've directed them to the triage dock anyway. There should be enough time for your people to give them a once over before we make them busy."
Lucy's stony gaze on him held for a few moments, then softened. "Ok," she said. "What else have we got?"
"Mostly minors, a few bumps to the head though. I want to send those next with your permission, then work our way through the rest. We don't have safe capacity for everyone in a single go, but the captain says we should have plenty of time, before the boat becomes dangerous."
"Ok, agreed. Do all your boats have spineboards?" She asked, recieveing a nod in reply, get them all on deck, I'll assess the head injuries, immobilise those that need it I can have some of your man power."
"I wouldn't call them mine, but I'll spread the..." he's cut off by a shout, as crew members come running out onto the deck. "Hold!" Jones shouts, bringing them up short. "Report!"
"Fire! Fire in the engine bay, we couldn't put it out." The crew member shouted, causing a ripple of alarm through the crowd of passenger.
The captain came closer. "Quiet you fool. How bad is it?"
"Caught a fuel leak sir. We managed to clamp the lines before we got out, but its burning in that direction."
"Officer Jones, our time just became more limited. If the fuel tank blows we'll be under within ten minutes."
* * *
The officer looked at her. It was hidden, but she could see the panic in his eyes. "Can we send the head injuries without immobilisation?"
Lucy ran her hand through her hair, looking at that small cluster of passengers, then she nodded. "I think so." She pointed to one bag, there's a dozen neckbraces in there, they'll have to do. I'll go with them in one boat, slow and gentle. Can your other boats handle the rest?"
"They'll have too." Jones replied. Before turning and barking orders, the air of command returning as soon as the decision was made, getting the less injured onto the first available boat, making best use of time.
Lucy made her way to the head injuries, and began fixing the collars, before handing them off to some officers who were helping them into the patrol boats as gently as they could. Lucy finished with last one, and looked around for Jones to tell him they were going, when she saw a new figure stumbling down the stairs inside. She saw the gruesome spur of bone sticking from his arm and rushed forward, pulling the door open for him. He almost fell into her arms.
"Help her...Plea..."
The fire reached the fuel tanks.
“So, what happened this time?” Foolish sighed, walking alongside Karl and Sapnap. Karl nervously giggled.
“I wasn’t, uh... I wasn’t paying attention and a creeper snuck up on me.” He sheepishly grinned, rubbing the back of his neck as Sapnap snickered, growing quiet as Karl elbowed him. “I’m sorry about taking so much of your time, Foolish. I’ll pay you handsomely though!” The curly-haired man flashed a toothy grin, making Foolish chuckle.
“No, no it’s alright! Besides, I needed to come and speak to you all about the cherry blossoms you wanted added in,” the tall God trailed, motioning for the pair to follow. “I was thinking about adding some further out - y’know showing where the land could begin,” his voice trailed as the wind blew up, causing Sapnap to squint before watching as a crumpled sheet tumbled from Foolish’s pocket. The Blazeborn scooped it up, straightening it out before calling out. “Hey! Foolish! You lost-'' his voice died as he scanned across the sheet, his brows creased as he slid his thumb across the bold, red letters “Las Nevadas'', followed by smaller black letters, “meet tonight’s main entertainment that is sure to rock your world!” His lip turned into a frown as he glared at the dull white, focusing on the letters at the bottom signed BQ.
“Las Nevadas..? BQ..? Oh, shit-” he quickly crumpled the flyer into his own pocket, rushing towards his fiancé and friend. “Karl, I’ll be back! I forgot I needed to go help George with something!” The raven-haired man rambled off, pressing a quick kiss to the brunettes’ cheek before retreating backward and giving a quick wave as the two watched him disappear before returning to their conversation.
“Is Sap always that… Rushed?” Foolish snickered, looking back to Karl who frowned, his brows knit tightly together. “Karl? You alright?” The totem God asked, patting the brunette’s shoulder making him jump.
“Hm? Oh, uh, yeah! Yeah, I’m fine! Let’s get this finished and get to work on those cherry blossoms!” Karl grinned, moving ahead of Foolish, who quickly followed and yet hadn’t seen the look of hurt flash across the fiancé's face.
“So, this is where you’ve been hiding..” Sapnap huffed as he stood in front of the towering entrance. Black stone and quartz stood tall as he moved closer, eyes glazing over each block, each light, each flyer that looked identical to the one he retrieved. The bright neons flickering and buzzing with life, even in the late afternoon sun, welcoming him even with the eerie feeling breathing down the back of his neck.
Striding up the steps, he watched as other patrons followed through the large doors. Excitement and sudden thrill-filled his veins as Sap was pushed and maneuvered into the chilled foyer. People pushed and shoved around him, taking off towards the games or towards the sitting areas where a few girls walked through, their clothes bright and alluring while shimmering from the pulsating lights. It felt like a dream..
“First time?” A soft voice called over the roar of the crowd, catching Sapnap’s attention quickly as he moved towards the desk.
“Uh, something like that.. What the hell is this place?” He laughed, shock evident in the wispy breath.
Niki smiled, sitting up more as she flicked some of her pink hair out of her eyes while turning towards the crowded floor. “Las Nevadas is a country that Quackity made, he made this for people to come in and just leave reality for a little bit. He built this place to be safe- no judgment, but no idiocy either. The Casino is one of the biggest organizations right now and I know Mr. Quackity has some big plans for Las Nevadas, so I’m excited to be a part of it.” She explained, tilting her head back towards Sapnap as he blinked.
“He built this?” He blinked again, a huff passing his lips. “Like - Like Big Q, our Quackity, built this place? Not just this, but an entire country?” He flabbergasted, causing Niki to curiously glance at him.
“Well, he wanted to make a good place? I mean from what I’ve learned about Mr. Quackity’s past, he deserves this.. I mean, he’s worked hard! He deserves the happiness returned after giving so much for others to feel happy, don’t you agree, Sapnap?” She flashed her teeth, the small bits of glitter shimmering and shining on her cheeks and nose as he gulped, flashing a quick grin back.
“Everyone deserves happiness, sure, but.. Should it really be at the expense of the people he loves the most?” He scoffed as Niki knitted her brows together, leaning onto the desk as Sapnap frowned.
“I believe you mean loved - past tense, Mr. Halo.” She grit, shifting to sit back down with a huff. “His office is up the stairs and down the hall, I don’t think you’ll miss it.”
Sapnap glared for a moment before moving towards the hallway and disappearing into the neon basked way. Perhaps he’d get answers, or perhaps it’ll be even more heartache…
~~~~
The dark oak door came into view, the fluorescent neons highlighting the cracks and dents as he gulped, feeling the sweat build-up and trickle down from his forehead. Standing there, he frowned as he heard voices coming from inside, the commotion getting louder with every second passing.
“Sir, just give us a few more weeks-” A voice quivered as two laughed, one causing flashbacks to a sweeter, easier time and the other causing a shift in Sapnap’s gut.
“I have given you an extra three weeks! I think that’s plenty of time to make up your side of the bargain.” The second voice coughed, yet you could hear the snarled grin behind it. Sap leaned closer towards the door, lifting his hand and wrapping it against the dark oak. Pushing it open as the room goes silent for a moment.
“Uh.. Hope I’m not interrupting?” Sapnap coughed, standing in the doorway as Quackity cleared his throat, standing from his desk with a crooked smile.
“Sapnap Halo! Long time, no see.. And allow me to finish this up and we can visit.” Big Q sapped, clicking his tongue as he turned his attention back towards the quivering man. “If you’re not willing to meet my demands, then I’m no longer in charge of what he commits..” The scarred man sneered, leaning against his palms as the man shook.
“Sir, please I just need-” a hand shot up, silencing him.
“You’ve had enough time. I’ve given you enough time. I have no control over what he chooses to do with your town, Mayor Liek.” Quackity chuckled, a maddening grin splitting across his face as Sapnap frowned, taking a step back.
“I can come back later-”
“No. He was just leaving.” Big Q grit, his eyes shift towards Punz, who steps out of the corner. “Punz. Escort him to the foyer, I’m afraid he’d get… Distracted.” Punz’s lips split into a grin as he stepped towards the man, clasping a hand on his shaking shoulder before dragging him out of the dark oak chair.
“Of course, Q.. Wouldn’t want him to get lost among these walls.” The blonde snickered, tugging the Mayor towards the door before shoving past Sapnap, flashing the bandana wearer a toothy yet sickening smile. Sapnap stood there, shock evident on his face as he watched the doors close behind Punz. He turned his head back towards Quackity, who settled back into the large leather seat, his hands folded in front of him.
“Sap, please sit.”
“Uh, nice place you got here..” Sap gulps, his gaze continuingly shifting around the room, taking in the pulsing neon lights, the dark oak desk that the dark-headed man sat, and two large windows behind him, showing off the casino floor and it’s patrons.
Quackity breaks into a sly grin. “Thanks, it, uh… It cost me some pretty rings.” Sapnap’s gaze moved back towards his ex, his brows furrowing. His eyes snapped towards Quackity’s left hand, eyes widened at the sight of ring-shaped tan lines.
“What?” He barely uttered, his fingernails curling into the dark oak chairs’ arms. His lips curled into a snarl. Quackity frowned, standing with the roll of his eyes. He stepped around the desk, his fingers grazing the few glossy playing cards on top. “Listen, an.. Extravagant life like this?” Quackity gestured around them, breaking into a large, prideful grin. “It doesn’t come cheap.”
“So, you - you sold our engagement rings?! Are you fucking serious, Big Q?” Sapnap snapped, standing abruptly. Quackity’s smile fell, his hands falling to his sides.
“Why would I want to keep memories of the people who abandoned their own fiance?! You must be living in fucking paradise, pal, because the moment you began construction for Kinoko was the day you chose I meant nothing.. Why would I want to remember that?”
Sapnap stared at him, eyes wide and lips parted before scoffing. “Who the fuck said you meant nothing to us - let me remind you, you walked out on US.”
Quackity squinted his good eye, tsking. “I was making this for us. I was making somewhere safe for our futures together and you assumed I left before I was even gone.” Silence swelled over them, each daring for the other to continue their verbal assault. Sapnap’s mouth opened, only to shut when the doors slammed open revealing a disordered Punz. He gulped loudly before straightening up, running a hand through his blonde hair.
“We have a situation.”
~~~~
“Sir, please,” Charlie sighed, rubbing a napkin across his forehead as he glanced down at the multi-colored cards sitting in his green, shaky hand. “The private dances are to be made upfront at the receptionist desk. You can pay forward and ask Niki, the said receptionist, to call upon the girl of your request.”
“Well, I’m requesting the one right there,” the drunkard slurred towards the girl on the stage. Her hips moving to the upbeat, organ-moving music thumping through the surround sound speakers. Glittering eyes darted towards the pair with a sneer, glossed lips pulling into a pout. Strutting around the metallic pole, she clicked her tongue before wrapping her dominant leg around, keeping a loose grip as she spun, her eyes catching on the pair below her.
“Sir, I understand that you want to request her, however, she’s not available for private dances,” Charlie uttered, clearing his throat. The burly man coughed out a laugh, suddenly leaning into Charlie’s space, flashing his gnarled teeth before spitting. “I can’t understand you when you mutter.”
Charlie flinched as the saliva landed on his face. He cleared his throat, using his napkin to wipe away the alcohol-stained spit. “My apologies, sir,” The slime kin spoke. “What I said was she’s not taking private fucking dances.”
The man flashed a mean grin, his hand shooting out towards Charlie’s collar, wrapping it into a tight fist and lifting him to where his shoes barely grazed the carpet. Charlie’s slimy hand shot out, wrapping around his assaulter's wrist as a whimper left his quivering lips. The man’s unoccupied hand raised as if to strike Charlie before a voice above them called out.
“Excuse me,” the dancer chimed, towering over the two males with a fierce grin. “Can you pretty please drop my little slime?” The man scoffed, dropping Charlie to the carpet with a grunt.
“Oh, so the little whore DOES have a voice! How intriguing.” The man laughed, stepping over Charlie’s trembling body, leaning against the stage where his dollar bills still laid. He reached out to scoop up the ones closest before a glittering maroon heel stamped into the top of his wrist, trapping it against the polished black stone stage. The man cried out, his free hand snatching her ankle, glaring up. “You little bitch! I’ll fucking kill you!”
She furrowed her brows, clicking her tongue before glancing around the casino floor - everyone was watching. Her eyes darted down to the hand on her ankle before shooting back up to his beat red and sweltering face; she scoffed.
“I could say the same about you.” Yanking her leg free before rearing back and slamming her heel into his nose, blood splattering onto the dollar bills and the finely polished stone. “Next time, I’ll charge you extra for wasting my time.”
~~~~
“There’s a situation on the floor,” Punz murmured as Quackity sighed, glancing back at Sapnap, who had yet to leave, before turning back to Punz.
“How bad is it?”
“Blood was spilled.” Quackity’s eyes widened, sneering. “Fuck.. Alright, Sapnap, you need to leave. I have some business to attend to. Don’t let the door kick you on the way out.” He waved off his raven-haired ex before quickly following his second-in-command down the hallway. Sapnap grew wide-eyed only to race after them, quick to complain.
“Like hell, I’m leaving! I don’t care what kind of business you have, Quackity. We’re not done discussing-” he stopped as both the males ahead stopped and turned towards him, causing him to sputter.
“We have nothing else to discuss, Halo.” Quackity spat, staring at his ex - the one who promised him the best future. A future of love, compassion, and safety. He was left to pick himself up and put himself back together. He stared, and stared, and stared before turning and continuing down the hallway. Punz stood there watching Sap for a moment before following after Quackity, this allowing Sapnap to silently yet swiftly follow behind the pair.
Quackity strode across the floor to meet with Purpled and Charlie to discuss the events that took place. His eyes landed on Charlie, who looked shaken up, Purpled offering him a drink. “What the fuck happened.” He sighed as the pair looked at Big Q and his right hand, along with the tail.
“Ace got into a fight-”
“I fucked up and Ace stepped in,” Charlie quickly jumped in, sniffling as Quackity frowned.
“How’d you fuck up, Big C?” He asked carefully, lips twitching into a frown as he squatted down to meet Charlie’s eyes.
“I.. I read the card! I read it just like you and Niki showed me, but he - well, the guy didn’t like that and I think he drank too much and he - he was an angry drunk..”
“C, you’re monologuing..”
“Sorry.. He grabbed me and tried to hit me, but Ace stepped in..” Charlie sighed, shifting his attention to the floor as Quackity nodded, standing straight before glancing at Punz.
“Where’s the dickhead?”
“Already taken care of. Waiting for a private session with Big F.” Punz snickered as Big Q nodded, grinning slightly as they looked up to meet the glimmering eyes of Ace herself.
They both nodded towards her as she stepped into the booth, tossing a bloodied tissue onto the tables’ plastic cover before scoffing. “I need new heels now.” She grits through her teeth, crossing her arms over her bust.
“Of course, Princesa, anything for our main attraction.” Quackity clicked his tongue, grazing his fingers across her bare shoulder before resting at the base of her neck; a comforting touch. She grinned, her lips sparkling under the lights. She reached a handover, resting it on top of Charlie’s with a gentle pat.
“Are you alright, Lil Slime?” She whispered, giving his slimy hand a firm squeeze as he shot her a comforting smile.
“I’m okay, thanks to you, Ace.” His toothy grin caused her to smile widely, gently leaning forward and pressing her stained red lips onto the back of his hand. “We’re a family, Slimy! We’ve got to look out for one another.”
Quackity’s fingertips scraped up her shoulder, reaching up and tucking a loose hair behind her ear, his finger catching the dazzling earring and watching it glitter. “So, Mi Carina.. How loud was the crunch of his bone beneath your heel?” His bottom lip caught between his teeth as she turned towards him, a shit-eating grin spreading across her lips.
“You should’ve heard it, Quackity! I think I scared Purpled.”
“Because you did, Sparky,” Purpled scoffed, knocking a rag into the bloodied tissue and into the bin in his hand. “And Big F is gonna have your head for that blood on his stage - y’know he doesn’t like spilled blood.”
“Well, security should’ve been on the floor,” Ace sang in a sing-song voice, as Punz snorted before stepping around Sapnap, who blinked at the group, his gut twisting as he watched the exchanges.
“I had my best guys on the floor! Besides, I was helping the Bossman.” He spat, no real threat behind it as he moved to lean against the wall next to the booth. Sapnap took a step closer, causing them to shift their gaze to him.
“And whose loudmouth?” Ace snorted, followed by Charlie, Punz, and Quackity with their own chuckles.
“Uh, Amada this is-”
“Quackity, I didn’t come here to meet your side piece or whoever this fucking is,” Sapnap spat, stepping closer and leaning onto the table, making Purpled and Charlie glance at each other, Punz’s brows furrowed as Quackity grew quiet, holding his gaze with the black-eyed Blazeborn.
“I came here to talk about us. And I’d rather not discuss any of this in… Mixed company.” Sap finished his piece, straightening his stance as Quackity stood, his lips pressed into a crease.
“Like I said before, Halo,” he spat the man’s last name, bumping their chest together as Sapnap’s mouth curled into a frown. “We have nothing to discuss. There is no us, and obviously, there never was an us. And this ‘mixed company’, is the best thing that’s happened to me, and if you, or anyone for that matter, tries to come in here and ruin that?” Quackity snorted, leaning close and pressing the pads of his fingers into Sap’s shoulder and shoving him back. “I’m not responsible for you not returning to your little kingdom.”
Sap stepped back, sneering at Quackity while glancing at the others - they all shared the same confident stare. Huffing, he licked his lips before nodding, coughing out a laugh. “I don’t even recognize you, Quackity.” Punz suddenly snickered, causing Sap to turn towards him with a frown. “What the hell are you laughing at, Blondie.”
Punz coughed, halting his laughter before pushing off the wall, now moving closer as Quackity took a step back, holding a smirk of his own.
“I’m laughing because you don’t recognize someone else and, yet, you’re going after an ex. I mean, it’s a little funny, along with a little sad, Sap.” The blonde grinned as he took a step towards Quackity, as Sapnap frowned. “What the hell are you talking about Punz?”
A scoff came from behind the two, making Sap move to look around them as Ace scooted out of the booth, standing beside Quackity whilst shaking her head. “I think you’re right, P.. I think someone’s memory is being influenced by his fiance.”
“How the hell-”
“What? Don’t remember me? That’s a little harsh, Sappy! Bad wouldn’t be happy about this one.” She giggled, leaning further into Quackity as Sap’s eyes grew wide before shooting towards her collarbone. A gnarly and pale scar sat across the thin skin, standing out from her soft tone. An accident that happened back in the Nether - he hadn’t meant to hurt her.
“Y/N..?” His voice was barely about a whisper, tears prickling at the corners of his eyes as she shot him a short, soft smile. Taking a step towards him, he suddenly stepped back, his face retorting into one of disgust. “What the fuck happened to you? You.. Oh, God, you look like a whore-”
“Sapnap,” Both Quackity and Punz growled as Y/N shook her head, taking a step closer with a smile.
“I may look like a whore, but at least I’m a loyal one.” She spat, turning back towards the two men as Sapnap arched a brow, scoffing.
“What the hell is that supposed to..” His voice trailed, his eyes switching between both Big Q and his sister. She pressed herself into his side, wrapping her arms around Quackity’s shoulders with an award-winning smile. “Mean… Are - Are you fucking dating my ex-fiance?!”
Y/N broke into a small grin, leaning close to Quackity’s side and pressing a chaste kiss to his scared lips, his arms wrapping tightly around her waist, keeping her pressed against him as she spoke, “well, Dad always said I had… Better and more expensive taste, Sappy.”
