super spies - r.c
Summary: In which reader follows her boyfriend to try and catch him cheating and Rafe tags along
Word count: 2.3K
A/N: This kinda sucks but im posting it anyways
Tumblr media
*GIF is mine*
You were almost one hundred percent sure your boyfriend was cheating on you. You thought it, your friends thought it, but you needed some hard evidence before you broke up with his sorry ass. You didn’t want to throw a two year relationship down the drain over a misunderstanding, though the niggling in your stomach should be proof enough that you were right.
You text him asking him his plans for the day and he replies saying he’s staying home as he’s not feeling well. You already know this is a lie as you’re sat in your car staring at his car from across the road, you were parked close to the town centre. You supposed he really could be ill and he had stopped off to get some medicine, but you highly doubted it.
Getting out of your car you stuff your phone into your bag and head towards the shops, not sure where you would find him but determined to do so. You checked multiple shops, no sign of him in any of them. You sigh audibly to yourself, almost ready to give up before you catch a glimpse of him from across the road. You quickly duck into an alley way, poking your head round to watch where he was going, you saw him disappear into the cafe across the street.
Checking the coast was clear you bolt across the street, sneaking up to the cafe and poking your head round the corner of it to peek through the window, it’s busy inside but you can see him at the counter ordering. He didn’t look very ill to you. You glare through the window at him, watching him smile and chat to the girls behind the counter as he waits for his order, you could feel yourself getting more annoyed by the second.
You were so engrossed on watching your boyfriends actions that you didn’t notice someone coming up behind you, their head practically touching yours before the finally spoke into your ear, “What are you doing?”
You sucked in a breath of air out of shock and spun round, glaring at the amused person behind you, “What the hell is your problem?” You yell at him, hand over your pounding heart, you quickly look back into the cafe hoping that your yelling hadn’t given away your position. Luckily your boyfriend didn’t seem to have noticed.
“Why are you sneaking around? You’re acting really weird.” Rafe laughs, hands in his shorts pockets as he waits for an answer.
You sigh running a hand through your hair, you quickly grab his arm and pull him out of view of the cafe window, “I’m watching my boyfriend.” You admit, not really sure why you were telling him the truth. Sure, you’d known him your whole life, he was your best friends brother after all, but that didn’t mean you should tell him about your cheating ass of a boyfriend.
Rafe raises an eyebrow at your confession, “That’s a bit stalkerish, don’t you think?” He asks, a small smirk playing on his lips.
“I guess,” You shrug, “But I need to see where he’s going.”
“Why?” Rafe asks, but you don’t have time to answer him as the cafe door swings open and your boyfriend appears, walking in the opposite direction with two coffee cups in his hands.
“Be quiet.” You warn the boy beside you as you head off in the direction your boyfriend was going, you could feel Rafe following behind, you hadn’t actually expected him to tag along.
“What are we? Super spies now?” Rafe laughs behind you but you just slap at his arm and shush him in annoyance.
You follow him into a small park on the outskirts of the town, keeping close to the tree line in hopes that he wouldn’t notice you and Rafe tailing him. You quickly put a hand out to stop Rafe walking as your boyfriend comes to a stop next to a bench, handing one of the drinks to a pretty blonde girl who was sat there. She stands up as he speaks to her pulling him into a hug. His free hand goes to her waist and he leans down and kisses her quick on the lips.
Your jaw clenches in anger, gripping onto the strap of your bag harshly as you shoot daggers at the pair by the bench, “I knew it.” You said through clenched teeth.
“What a fucking asshole,” Rafe fumes from behind you, “You want me to go beat the shit out of him? Cause I will.”
You glare at them for a moment longer before turning to Rafe, eyes wet mostly from anger and frustration than from hurt, you shake your head. “He really isn’t worth it.” You reply, wiping a tear off of your cheek as you begin to head out of the park.
“You’re not even gonna confront him?” Rafe asks running up behind you, his hand rests lightly on your shoulder and you don’t have the energy to shrug it off.
“No, I’m not. Let him be happy with her, I’m over it.” You huff out, the tears on your face telling a completely different story.
“You don’t look over it.” Rafe comments, falling into step beside you.
“And what would you know about it?” You snap at him, finally pushing his hand off your shoulder.
“I know that there’s a pretty girl in tears beside me because of some absolute tool.” He states, putting his hand back on your shoulder but this time stopping you from walking, “You were right when you said he’s not worth it. He was never good enough for you.”
You scoff and shrug his hand off again, “You don’t have to be nice to me, Rafe. You don’t even know me, you’re talking shit.”
“I don’t know you?” Rafe raises his eyebrows at your statement, “I’ve known you my whole life, Y/N. I know that you spend Saturdays in Sarah’s room eating ice cream and watching shitty girls movies. I know that you broke your arm when you were seven falling off the swing in your garden. I know that when you’re sad and hurt you get angry like you are now. I also know that you’re one of the nicest people on this stupid island and you don’t deserve that asshole hurting you like this.”
You blink up at him, fresh tears falling from your reddening eyes, shocked that he paid any attention to you at all, “Rafe, I-“
“You don’t have to say anything. I get it, I’m your friends asshole older brother and you hate me, but I don’t want to see you like this.” Rafe sighs out.
You take a second to process his words before replying, “I don’t hate you, Rafe. I could never hate you.”
“Yeah? Well then why don't you let me try to cheer you up?” He suggests, smiling now which only served to pull a smile onto your own lips.
“Okay.” You nod, wiping your face free of the last of your tears and following Rafe out of the park which was now your least favourite place on the island.
“So what are we doing?” You ask him after walking in silence the whole way back to the town centre.
“I’m cheering you up.” Rafe states again, “Wait here.” Rafe pulls you to a halt and sits you down on a bus stop bench before disappearing.
You knew you should probably call Sarah and tell her exactly what’s happened, let her come and pick you up and comfort you, but for some reason you were a little excited to be spending the day with Rafe. It was probably best you didn’t tell Sarah about that part. Before long Rafe returned, handing you a cone of ice cream which caused your face to light up.
You took it from him, licking at the cold scoop on top, “This is my favourite flavour.” You state as you begin walking beside him.
“I know.” Rafe states matter of factly.
You eat your ice creams in silence as Rafe leads you to his truck, by the time you climbed into the passenger seat you had finished eating and were curious as to what you were doing next.
“So, what are we doing?” You ask, buckling yourself in and watching Rafe excitedly.
Rafe shrugs, “There’s a couple things we can do. Or I could show you somewhere, if you want?”
You furrow your brows slightly, “Show me somewhere?” You asks and Rafe just nods his head in reply, “Okay, show me.” You smile and nod.
You were expecting the drive to feel awkward, you’d never really been alone with Rafe for more than a few minutes and you were worried you wouldn’t have anything to talk about, but you were worrying for no reason. The Rafe with you today was a side of Rafe that you didn’t see very often. He was friendly and open and extremely funny. He had you in stitches in the passenger seat, making comments about the stupidest things just to hear you laughing.
You were almost upset when the truck came to a stop and it was time to get out, “I could drive round with you all day.” You admit, a slight blush on your cheeks at you confession.
“Well we can do that next then.” Rafe smiles as he climbs out of his truck.
The devastation from early this morning was completely gone from your mind as you followed Rafe, the area he had brought you to looked a little run down, somewhere between figure eight and the cut, not somewhere you expected Rafe Cameron would hang out.
He reaches out and grabs your hand, “Watch where you’re stepping.” He warns you as he leads you off the path and into a wooded area, still gripping tightly onto your hand.
“Is this where you murder me and bury my body?” You ask playfully, eyes on the ground as you follow his steps so as not to fall over the many branches scattered across the floor.
“Am I that easy to read?” Rafe asks with a chuckle.
When Rafe’s feet stop walking in front of you you look up, peeking round from behind him, “Is this-wow.” You cut yourself off, fully stepping out from behind him, “This place is beautiful.” You comment, stepping in front of him to get a better look.
He’d brought you to the tiniest cove you had ever seen, the sand stretching no more than fifteen feet either way, rocks lining the edge of the sand and trees bunching together behind you. The ocean looked bluer her, like that pale blue water you imagine in exotic places and it lapped gently at the sand.
“How did you find this place?” You asked, finally turning away from the view to look at the boy behind you.
Rafe shrugs, “Needed to get away one day, somehow found this place. I come here whenever I need to be alone.” He admits.
“Thank you, for bringing me.” You smile, “I promise I wont keep turning up and ruining your peace.” You laugh gently.
“I wouldn’t mind.” Rafe admits, he moves to sit down in the sand and you follow suit, sitting beside him and looking out across the water.
“It’s so peaceful here, I can see why you come.” You mumble out, fingers burying themselves in the sand.
You spent the whole day in that cove with Rafe, laughing, messing around, having heart to hearts. You never imagined Rafe would have such a soft side to him, you were sure he would never want anyone else to find out.
“Are you cold?” Rafe asks, reaching over and wrapping his arm around your shoulder and pulling you into his side, you smile up at him appreciatively before looking back out across the ocean at the sun set, pink and orange glowing across the glittering water.
“Would you call me crazy if I said considering I caught my boyfriend cheating on me this morning I’ve had the best day ever?” You laugh softly at how stupid that sounded.
Rafe shrugged lightly, “I wouldn’t call you crazy. I’d just say you’ve learnt he was an ass who isn’t worth shit and moved on pretty quickly, it’s admirable.”
You look over at the boy sat next to you, “You think I’m admirable?” You ask.
Rafe’s eyes meet yours, the sunset casting an orange glow across his skin, “I think you’re incredibly strong, I always have.” Rafe admits.
You smile softly and don’t stop yourself when you feel yourself leaning forward, you rest a hand against his chest as your lips meet his. The kiss was soft and gently and didn’t last nearly as long as you would have liked it.
“I’m sorry-“ You start.
“Don’t me.” Rafe cuts you off, his hand coming up to the side of your face and pulling your lips against his again, this time with kiss was longer, his lips pressed against yours with more pressure. Before you knew it you were laid back against the sand, Rafe’s body hovering over yours as you got lost in the feeling of your lips together.
That’s how you spent the rest of the night, laying in the sand, pressing kisses against each others lips, noses, foreheads, cheeks. Lost in the feeling of each other and not caring about anything else, not needing anything more.
From that day onwards that became your spot. It’s where you held most of your dates, having picnics and drinks by the sea, it’s the first place you slept with Rafe and the first place you shared I love you’s and you couldn’t be more thankful to your ex for giving you the opportunity to let Rafe into your heart.

Words: 1839 Chapter Summary: After defeating Hawkmoth, there are still a few things Team Miraculous has to round up. A month later, everyone is still coping, but there are things to look forward to. Author's Note: oh my gosh...the last chapter of this story! I've been writing this for over a year and I love it so much. Thank you so much for sticking around and reading, I appreciate it more than you know! Make sure to check back in a few weeks for the mini sequel!!
Prev / Mini Sequel part 1 / Masterlist
Epilogue
---
One Month Later
"Don't be bemused, it's just the news," Nadja Chamack's voice rang through the TV, much less energetic than usual.
The five heroes sat on Marinette's couch, dressed in black, and emotionally exhausted. Everyone had tear-stained faces, and no one was saying anything, just sitting and coping.
"Just two hours after Emilie Agreste's proper burial, Gabriel Agreste has been found guilty for multiple counts of public endangerment, and multiple counts of kidnapping. We have reporters on the field seeing him being taken away," She reported, and the video turned to an overhead view of Gabriel Agreste in handcuffs, leaving the courthouse in the back of a police car. Adrien shut his eyes for a few seconds until the screen changed again.
Nadja continued. "His assistant, Nathalie Sancoeur, has also been charged with multiple counts of complicity but could be released early because she claims she was forced to help him. That is currently being investigated. We want to send a heartfelt message to our heroes to say thank you for keeping Paris safe and continuing to do so. The public will always support you, and we hope to see you at the statue ceremony in a few days."
Marinette squeezed Adrien's hand to remind him that she's there for him, and they would get through this together. All five of them were a mess, and just glad it was all over.
"This broadcast is dedicated to Emilie Agreste, may she finally rest in peace," Nadja said, and the TV went to commercial.
Adrien started crying again, not sure how much more he could cry before he ran out of tears. They all looked down, and Marinette shut the TV off, still holding Adrien.
---
Marinette focused her camera on her friends and pressed record, then took her seat. They definitely weren't ready to be on camera all the time, but they knew this video had to be made.
"Hi, I'm Marinette," She began the video, less energetic than her videos were used to. "And I've got my team with me. Today we're doing a final Q&A about being superheroes," Marinette said. "Like before, we will choose the questions to answer, as we still have to protect some things. But most questions will come from Twitter and YouTube," She clarified.
The team was still going through a lot, emotionally and psychically. Initially, they weren't going to make any videos until they were back to normal, or as normal as they could be, but once they all agreed to take a step back, a final Miraculous video needed to be made.
"There are still some sensitive topics," Alya piped up. "So Marinette and I have already chosen the ones we will be answering, and not all of us may answer every question," She explained, hoping it would keep people from commenting anything rude.
"Are we all ready to begin?" Marinette asked the group with a soft smile, and with a round of yes, she asked the first question. "Thank you guys so much. How are you doing? We care about you and value you more than you know," She read. "I'll start. I think it's safe to say we're still kind of a mess, but we're getting better every day. It feels like one weight is off my shoulders, for now, at least," Marinette said.
There were a few nods around her, agreeing. "My head is still a mess from everything. But we've been working through it together," Alya added. "It helps that we're all together, definitely."
Adrien cleared his throat. "Marinette said it straight. I'm a mess, and I can't be any more clear than that. But having a new schedule and helping around The Bakery keeps my mind busy, but there is a new stress of starting school," He said, forcing a chuckle at the end.
"Very true!" Chloé echoed. "At least then we'll all be focusing on something to keep us busy!" She said.
Nino didn't answer as most of the emotions were covered. "Speaking of school," Alya said. "Our next question asks what's next for you guys now that the Akuma threat is gone?" Alya asked.
"I guess this is as good a time as any to announce some updates for all of us!" Marinette said and took a deep breath. I'm sure you've all noticed my lack of uploads, for obvious reasons, and they will not be going back to how they used to be. That's because I will be busy studying at my top school for design!" She said, excitedly. "I do want to get back into uploading more fashion videos, and I hope I'll be able to incorporate stuff from school into them, so keep an eye out," She winked.
Marinette looked to Adrien to let him talk about his plans. "I am going to school to study business, so I can fully take over Agreste Fashion in a few years. Right now, it is being run by the CFO, and I will be working with him and his team to help me prepare for that responsibility. In a few years, the Agreste Fashion, you know now, will be completely different, and I hope the best designer out there will be willing to tag along," Adrien nudged Marinette with a smile.
She brushed it off with an eye roll and looked to Alya next. "The Ladyblog really took off with everything going on, and I have taken a job as a full-time reporter as well as going to school for writing!" Alya said. "It will be a change of pace, but I'm really excited. Chloé?" She directed.
"Plain and simple, I'm going to study politics," She said, not elaborating anymore.
"And possibly our most exciting one...Nino?" Marinette smiled wide and turned to him.
Nino jumped when he heard his name. "Oh yeah!" He said. "I'm going to be taking a year off because I'm going on tour with Jagged Stone!" Nino said and put his fist in the air in excitement.
Jagged Stone made the offer to Nino only a few days before, and everyone was excited for him, though sad he was going to be gone for so long. The questions continued on, asking about favorite things to do as heroes, what changes they would make to their costumes, if they could switch their Miraculous for another which one would it be, and some that weren't related to superheroes at all.
They talked about how their relationships with each other have changed, and also what they wish they could have done in high school.
"Now for what I'm sure you've all been wondering, why is this the last Miraculous superhero-related video?" Marinette said, and everyone's mood changed from having fun to being somber. "We, as a group, have decided to take a step back. At least for a little bit," She said. "Hawkmoth and the Akumas are over, and crime rates are very low. Plus, it gives us a chance to focus on something different," Marinette explained.
"We love being superheroes, but it's time," Adrien added, followed with nods form the team.
Marinette took a deep breath. "But! We do have an exciting announcement. This Saturday, we will be doing a stream with Jagged Stone to finally listen to his album and talk about all the work!" Marinette said, and everyone else murmured things about it. "Check the information below to be sure to listen with us!" She said. "But I think that's it for today. Thank you all so much for watching, and I hope you'll check out our social media," Marinette took a deep breath. "Bug out."
Marinette had the video out as fast as she could, and the comments flew in.
oh man, catch me crying right now i love you guys so much
i know this is an important step for them but im still sad that its the end of an era
BUG OUT BUG OUT BUG OUT
she said BUG OUT this cant be the end of ladybug and chat noir
I hope you guys know how much we love and value you! I hope you guys are feeling better and keep getting better. Excited for everything in the future!!
OMG CONGRATS GUYS on all your achievements! Can't wait to see what you all do! ESPECIALLY YOU mari and i cant wait to see what adrien does with Agreste Fashion!!
ugh i love you guys SO MUCH
i love that mari would choose to be chat like,,, can i see that please?
I'm so buying tickets to Jagged mostly for Nino !!
thank you guys so much <3
To say they were pleasantly surprised with the comments was an understatement.
---
Right after the video was uploaded and the team read through the comments, they sat in Marinette's home, waiting for their visitor. There were mixed feelings, and no one knew what to say. When there was a knock on the door, the air in the room grew thick.
"Hello, Master," Marinette said as she welcomed Master Fu into the home. The Kwamis floated behind their holders, clearly sad to be leaving, and not saying anything.
"Are you all ready?" He asked.
No one spoke, just looked at each other. "Well, that's good, because I would like to say something," Master Fu said. "You five are the best Miraculous holders. I am very proud of all of you for what you've accomplished while also having the stress of life," He said, and grabbed the Miracle Box out of his bag. "Which is why I want to pass this onto you, Marinette."
All five gasped, and Marinette was shocked. "W-what?" She asked, her jaw on the floor.
“My time as guardian of the Miraculous is up. I have been guarding these since I was just a boy, and Marinette and Adrien, you two were easily the best Ladybug and Black Cat there has ever been. You work well together and are true leaders. All five of you have the best teamwork I could have ever imagined, and after all you have been through with Hawkmoth, it is clear that it is time for a change," Master Fu said and handed the Miracle Box to Marinette, which she hesitantly grabbed. "Marinette, you were made to be Ladybug. You were made to be a Guardian."
Her friends began celebrating with wide smiles, clearly excited for Marinette. The Kwamis were exchanging confused looks as to what this meant, and Pollen was the one to speak up.
“Does this mean we can stay with our owners?” Pollen asked.
Marinette turned around, holding onto the Miracle Box tight. She took a deep breath and formed a smile. “You know, it’s probably a better idea to not have them all in one place. Who knows, maybe the world will need us again," She said, and everyone joined in a group hug. After all this stress, emotional and physical pain, it was time for them to live their lives, with their best friends (humans and Kwamis alike) by their side.
THE END
edit: (except now there’s a sequel)

Need (3)
Pairing: Professor!Rogers x Reader
Summary: The professor realizes just how mich he wants you.
Warnings: stalking, mention of blood.
A/N: This part will mostly be in Steve’s point of view. Kinda. I’ve decided reader wears glasses and idk why I wrote this, this way.
**********
Tumblr media
**********
‘Why am I doing this? I shouldn’t be doing this.’ Steve thought as he kept following her from a safe distance.
**********
He wasn’t following you at first; he stayed back in his office for probably an hour...or three. He didn’t keep track. He needed to turn in a book, a history book for revision, and comparison. He is writing his own book, telling what actually happened while in the Howling Commandos.
By the time Steve got to the library the sun was setting, and it was a complete ghost town inside. Only spotting two people on his way to his destination. One of them being a janitor. The top floor of the library is where he needed to go, it’s where the special collection is kept. Normally these kinds of books aren’t allowed out of the library, but being older than most of the books in their library has its perks.
Putting the book back in its respective place, and about to return the checkout card, that is when I sees you once more. Hiding out in the back corner, at a table that is covered in notebooks and colorful pens and highlighters. Looking so deep in focus, biting your lip, and flipping through papers only to turn back to your notebook.
Hair tossed up in a messy bun. Glasses hanging at the end of your nose. You look at little bit more disheveled than what he remembered from a couple hours ago. White V-neck t-shirt under a navy blue cardigan. You looked beautiful.
Deciding to stay, Steve began to look through more history books, encyclopedias, and records that would help with his little project. If he was going to stay he might as well get some work done too.
He sat at a table across a very long isle from you. A seat that made sure he could still watch you, without you seeing. If he had, to he could just scoot his chair forward and he would be out of sight.
Steve is there for another 40 minutes or so before he sees her putting all of her notes away. He quickly stacked everything and put it all in his bag, then walking out before she sees him. Waiting by the entrance for you.
‘Why is she out this late? Doesn’t she know this is a dangerous city?’
Then he realized. He shouldn’t be here, he could get fired.
‘Why am I doing this? I shouldn’t be doing this.’ Steve thought as he kept following her from a safe distance.
He was going to turn back, he really was, but she just seemed so vulnerable. How far does she live? ‘I’ll just make sure she gets home safe.’ He decides, but he truly know that now he’s hooked, and he’s not going to stop.
And he didn’t. He not only followed her home but he found out what apartment she lives in. First floor, not very safe, at least the windows to her home are high. Less of a chance of robbery. He also saw her roommate, he recognized her from the coffee shop. Watching her clean up her room Steve realized something.
He’s got it bad.
**********
He held himself back from following her again. Not really by choice. He didn’t see her at the library again. He also avoided the cafe she works at. Not wanting himself to get too close, too fixated. It has been three weeks though, and he doesn’t know how much longer he can keep himself from you. Of all of his classes, yours was his favorite.
You have his class twice a week, every Tuesday and Thursday. Both scheduled at 4:30. He has kept his distance and she has been nothing but a model student.
Steve needs a teachers assistant, and he thinks he’s already found her.
**********
The essays Steve had assigned are finally almost done being graded. Deciding to leave yours last. When he was done going through, your essay was nearly perfect. Maybe he was biased, but he really thought that you’re paper deserved an A.
A grade he rewarded to only six other people. He was going to write an A when an idea struck him.
He grabbed his red marker and marked the paper with a C, writing “see me after class”.
He smiled at his plan and quickly filed it into the bottom of the stack of essays to hand back as students began filing into his classroom.
It’s Thursday.
**********
You got to Mr.Lee’s class 15 minutes early as per usual. You like being a little bit more than punctual. This was one of your favorite classes to be in but to be honest you’d be glad when it’s over. Math made sense to you but it took work. A lot of work.
Last class, there was a test and you were dying to see how you did. Mostly because he said that this test will be just like the mid-term and a good chunk of the final. You tried really hard, going to the library more often than usual. Well, it isn’t a big accomplishment, you only go the the library once a week. For like 4 hours, but still.
You’re practically bouncing in your seat all class period, since the average score on the test for this class was 82% Mr.Lee thought that we can have a reward. It’s his top priority that his students are understanding his material, and that’s why you like this class.
We are currently watching a movie and those who wanted to leave could, but they would have to wait longer to view their score. You stayed because you worked too hard to wait any longer.
But finally the end of this class was drawing near, and Mr.Lee just checked his watch and was pulling out a big stack of papers. Trying to stay calm just in case your score was bad, and why did this class have to be so big?
He was finally get to you, and he set your packet face down on your desk. Did he put the other students tests face down? You weren’t even paying attention. Now that you have your test, you can leave the class.
Pulling out your phone you call a familiar number, “Wade?” You met him on you way to a book store last year, he actually saved you from being mugged when you thought it was a good idea to take a shortcut through a back alley.
“My common sense it tingling,” you hear him the material of his mask being moved around, “What did you do this time Y/N? Something that shows you’re intelligent I bet. That’s the main trope of your story’s character.”
“You know you don’t sense sometimes, but maybe! I took a test the other day and I’m scared to look. I was hoping a call to you would help calm my nerves.”
“Would an in person meet and greet help?”
“What do y—” you couldn’t finish your sentence before a body landed in front of you on the sidewalk. You let out a loud shriek, then you heard a voice.
“Holy fuck knuckles! That shit hurted.” And you realized who it was.
“Fuck I hate you sometimes.” You sighed.
“I’m hilarious so don’t hate. And that was about as much fun as a sandpaper dildo,” he sits up at looks at you, “wanna kiss it better?” He says gesturing to his backwards foot.
You bend over and turn it back around, despite his cry of pain. Then you offer a hand so he may stand.
You looked down, “ah shit you got some blood on me.” It was only a drop, probably the size of a quarter on your white boyfriend cardigan. Wade pokes his arm and draws a smiley, using the dot on your sweater as an eye.
“Gross.” You smiled.
“Hydrogen peroxide will get that out.” You nodded and began unbuttoning it to take it off. Leaving you in your baby pink cami that was tucked into your high waisted back jeans.
“So... Wanna see my score?” You held out the packet.
“Ah... mhmm... yes.” He mumbled through his mask as he flipped through the pages. “Y/N I’m sorry to have to tell you this but it looks as thought you’ll have to drop out.”
You hit him, “Shut up, let me see.” You snatch it out of his hand before you finished your sentence. By it before you look at your score you smiled at him, “I guess your ‘inperson meet and greet’ did help.”
93%. You were struggling in that class and this will surely boost your grade back up. Squealing you jump at Wade, hugging him. He twirled you around.
“Celebratory chimichangas?” He put you back down and began walking, knowing you’d follow.
“Yeah actually I have roughly an hour and a half before my next class.” You said you you looked down at your phone. “Where should we go?”
“There’s this beautiful woman that has a restaurant somewhere that way.” Wade said point in a general direction.
You didn’t really believe him but two blocks in the direction he pointed was a small restaurant. You wouldn’t have noticed it if Wade hadn’t pointed it out. The lady that ran it was a sweet little old woman.
The food was great, and Wade was able to keep you occupied the entire time. You didn’t even realize how much time had passed before there was only 5 minutes before your next class started.
“Oh SHIT! Fuck IM LATE!” You scrambled pull out your wallet, but end up spilling everything. Wade starts to help you pick up everything that fell out, he stood up with five of your notebooks.
“I paid ahead of time. Sorry read ahead in the script. But let’s go!” He waved at the little lady behind the counter. “Goodbye, my princess.” And blows her a kiss.
“Come on we have to run, slow ass.” he starts pulling you to go faster.
“Jesus, I’ve never been late before. Oh my god.” Starting to get out of breath. About a block and a half closer.
“Really? Never would have guess that.” He says sarcastically. You two are back on campus, and you need to pass two more buildings.
“There! It’s right there,” you say running faster, you get to the front of the building. Wade hands you back your notebooks. You lean over trying to catch your breath.
“4:28. Why was it so important to be on time to this class?”
“Well turns out Mr.America is also Mr.Punctuality.”
“Cap is your teacher? I better skedaddle before he try’s to cut off another arm. Goodbye sunshine.” He taps your nose. “Boop.”
“Bye!” You waved and headed inside, going to the second to last classroom on the left.
You check the time again 4:29, you weren’t late. But it looks like the teacher is going to be. All that worrying for nothing. Not knowing that you were the reason for his tardiness.
**********
Mr.Rogers did show up for class but was about five minutes late. Other than that class went on like normal, you took your notes and worked. Used to the feeling of somebody staring at you, you didn’t want to know who thinking that acknowledging them will encourage them.
‘Wow she looks so adorable, pink suits her well.’ He thought as he watched her, but he began to grow angry as he realized that these boys were looking at his girl.
It was nearing the end of class, so he began passing out the essays. Saving yours for last. Today’s class was small, most students skipped his class once they realized that he wasn’t going to talk about Captain America or the avengers.
Once he got to you he placed your essay on your desk face down gently. He felt a little bad, turning around quickly so he didn’t have to see the disappointment on your face.
You forgotten about the essay, but you thought you had done well when you turned it in. You were having a good day, but this just ruined it. A big C on the corner of your paper. You felt tears beginning to well in your eyes but you blinked them away before they could fall.
You look at the clock and there is 2 minutes left, but the professor dismissed everyone already. You begin packing your stuff up, when you feel a little chilly. Sighing you pull out your cardigan and look at the smiley. Maybe you’ll call Wade again after this. You put it on hoping people will think it’s just a cute little design.
The class was now empty and you walk to the office connected to this classroom. It was more plain than you’d expect, and a lot cleaner too. Almost every other professor’s office you’d been to had been a complete mess. He was sitting behind his desk.
“You said to see you after class?” You say timidly. He gestured to the seat in front of his desk, and you take a seat.
“Yeah let me see that,” he holds out his hand and you lean forward to give him your paper, “I just needed to talk to you.” He crossed out the C and wrote an A right next to it, and stood up.
“What did you need to talk about?” You felt a little better with an improved grade, but a nervous pit in your stomach began to form. We’re you in trouble? He walked around and leaned against his desk in front of you, handing your paper back.
“I have been needing to choose a TA for the semester, and I was wondering if you would like to fill that position?”
“Oh my gosh really? I would love to! What would I need to do?”
He smiled, “Well, regular TA responsibilities like grading, tutoring or mentoring students if and when they need help, stuff like that.”
“Wow, thank you for this opportunity.” At this point you wouldn’t be able to stop smiling.
“It’s no problem. This job will suit you, I can tell.” He sighs and rubs the stubble on his face. “But, you will have to sign a few papers.” He slid walked back behind his desk and pulled a small packet out of his desk drawer. “This isn’t what you would sign with other teachers, but I’m sure you’re aware of my previous profession.” You nodded. “This is just protecting my privacy and it’s basically saying that you won’t do anything that would take away that privacy.” He slid the papers over to you, then putting a pen on top.
“Yeah, okay.” You didn’t read through it before signing, as Mr.Rogers just explained it to you. You put the pen down. “What now?”
Yes, what now? Steve thought.

pt: 2 ___
“So I guess it’s just you and me till Friday.”
It was like every cell in your body started to reek havoc. Friday? That’s another 5 days alone with Baekhyun, not to mention that you had literally just watched him touch himself to the thought of you no longer than 5 minutes ago; and now you would have to spend 5 days trying not to attack him.
“That’s 5 days. What are we going to do for food?”
Baekhyun put his phone down onto the island that stood in the middle of the kitchen, “I guess my mom left us $200 in emergency money, so that should be good enough, right?” The last word left his lips a little shaky.
“Yeah that should be fine.” You started to walk towards the window, trying to hide the fact that your face had turned a bright shade of pink.
You heard Baekhyun take a deep inhale in, and then his footsteps heading in your direction until he was standing right beside you, looking out towards the lake and many trees.
“Is… Is that okay?” Baekhyun questions, “Because if it isn’t then I understand, I can call my mom and tell them to come home immed…”
He was cut off by your words “Baekhyun it’s okay, I promise. I could really use 5 days to get away from my mom’s constant dancing and blabbling and my Dad talking about golf literally 24/7” you giggled turning to see that Baekhyun was laughing along too.
“Yeah and my Mom’s terrible songs she makes up when she’s doing random tasks,” he starts to tap the glass of the window “or how my Dad literally falls asleep everywhere that he sits for more than 10 minutes.” the way he laughs is only making you laugh harder, “and don’t even get me started on my brother’s constant ‘I’m an athlete mom, not a housemaid’.” he says in the deepest voice he can possibly manage. He sighs “Let’s just make these next five days fun.“ he says turning to meet your eyes, and once again you find yourself melting by the sight of his smile, it really is your favorite thing about him.
You turn back to the window, "Agreed.”
Baekhyun stops tapping on the window and puts his hand down, accidentally brushing yours. You fight the chill coursing through your body.
You turn on your heel to head to the various cupboards displayed across the kitchen, “well first we have to figure out what were gonna eat for lunch.” You shuffle through the various canned items.
During your search for at least something that could possibly work to eat, you felt Baekhyun’s hands on your hips behind you, you freeze. He looks over your shoulder as if this was an innocent act.
“Why don’t we have some ravioli?” His grip on your hips loosened till they were no more.
“Yeah…” with shaky hands you grab the two cans “…sure.”
Baekhyun takes a seat at the island, “Is everything okay?” He asks with fake confusion in his face, he knew what he was doing.
“Yeah I’m fine. Uh… do you want orange juice or canada dry?”
“Canada dry is good.” He sits up straight. “So about the room situation…”
You turn to face him.
“I think it’s too cold at night for us to… sleep apart.” You flush at his words.
You turn back around so you could finish making the food, “Yeah, it really was freezing last night.”
“I felt like I was gonna get frostbite.”
“Yeah I could tell, you were strangling me.” you laugh.
“YAH at least you were warm!” he smirks, “You were enjoying the sight too.”
You flush. “Shut up!” You throw an ice cube at him from the freezer.
He throws his arms up in defeat, “Okay okay, you were just strangled… totally not staring at me while I slept.”
You had no words. Glaring, you threw another ice cube at him.
“Hey! Stop that!” He laughs covering his body to block further cubes.
You place the Ravioli in front of him, “Your majesty.” You say with a bow.
“Thank you my humble servant.” Baekhyun says returning your bow.
You two sit at the island. “Weren’t we supposed to have PB&J’s?” Baekhyun asks turning to you.
You laugh “I totally forgot.” ___
You find yourself laying on the couch, reading Fahrenheit 451. A pouty Baekhyun enters the room, “y/n I’m bored.” He lifts your legs from the couch and sits, placing them in his lap.
‘This little shit’ was all you could really think.
You sat up, legs still in his lap. “Well what would you like to do?”
He pauses, thinking for a second “Hold on.” Baekhyun takes your legs off his lap and stands, placing them back down on the couch, and heads into your shared room. He returns with his portable speaker and stands with his phone in hand, trying to connect it. Out from the speaker blasts Strawberry Afternoons by Lonely Benson.
He holds out his hand, “Dance with me?” he asks with puppy dog eyes. You sigh, placing your bookmark back in your book and putting it on the table to stand. You take his hand and he starts swinging you, twirling you, and moving all over the cabin with you. You both are laughing as you dance together. Just as Baekhyun goes to twirl you, within an instant both of his feet fly up from beneath him as he lands on his back. You couldn’t contain your laughter and had to get on the floor as you held your stomach, tears streaming from your eyes trying to ask if he was okay through your cackling. Baekhyun groaned but as soon as he saw you he started laughing too. Soon you both were rolling around on the floor laughing so hard it had almost become painful.
“That was” you heave “the funniest thing I’ve seen in a long time.” still on the floor. Your abs and face hurt.
“Shut up.” He smiles, pushing your shoulder.
Brushing some loose strands of hair out of your face You sit up, “What time is it?”
Baekhyun sits up for a brief second to look at the clock on the stove, “2:07am″ he lays back on the floor, massaging his cheeks from the laughter.
You stand, “come on, I wanna show you something.” You put out your hand. Hesitating for only a second, he takes it, allowing you to lead him.
You climb the wooden ladder that leads into the loft, with Baekhyun right behind you “your brother showed this to my sister and I a couple years ago and made us promise not to tell you about it.”
He pouts, “What, why?”
“You were being a quote ‘little asshole’ that day I guess.” You giggle, finally reaching the loft. You head towards the little walk in closet just to the right of the room. Walking inside you look up, a small trap door placed in the middle. You turn to Baekhyun, “give me boost will ya?” Giving him your leg, he cupped his hands and hoisted you up. You grabbed the little latch on the trap door and pulled it down, a wooden staircase falling down with it.
“What the hell” Baekhyun whispered.
You started to go up the stairs, until you climbed into an attic. It was small and smelled of dust and who knows what from over the years. The room was shaped like a triangle with a window to the left and various boxes that covered the floor.
You turned around to see Baekhyun studying the room, “why did you bring me up here?”
As your answer, you opened the window. “You trust me?” he nods, “then come on.”
You climb out of the window. The view is absolutely stunning; the moon shines on the still lake perfectly, and you could see all the lights going down the mountain, lighting up the forest just a bit.
“This is the roof.” Baekhyun states after climbing out the window too.
You nod, “Your brother used to take my sister up here when he had a crush on her Junior year.” You laugh a little, still staring at the scenery around you.
He turns to face you. “What now?”
You sit, and look out, your hands finding the wood beneath you to fiddle with the broken off pieces and Baekhyun takes a seat right next to you, “So tell me about life…” you blink up at him. “You know your favorite things, how life’s going, where you want to travel. You know things like that.” He adds, waiting for some sort of answer.
“Well, life’s pretty good. I’m top 2% at our school and I just got offered a scholarship for Golf from NYC and an Art scholarship from UCLA.”
“Besides focusing on school every second of your life, what do you like to do?” Baekhyun presses. When you look at him, his attention is fully on you, he actually wants to hear about it.
“I don’t know, I uh… I like to draw and paint, and music is sometimes my everything. I really like plants so I care for my garden. And writing, Oh I could write or read, or maybe even both for hours,” you babble “and I really really like to watch movies.”
Baekhyun smiled, “Which movies?”
“I don’t know there’s so many,” You look up at the sky, thinking. “I fall in love with practically every movie I watch. I guess mostly 80′s movies.”
Baekhyun lights up, “Really? Me too!”
You smile at his enthusiasm. “My Dad and I always watch 80′s movies, like hmm… The Karate Kid, Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, The Breakfast Club, Rocky 1-a friken million, Full Metal Jacket, Pretty Woman. All those movies.”
“Or The Outsiders, Back to the Future, Pretty in Pink, Ghost Busters, A Christmas Story, The Goonies…” he continues with his eyes closed trying to think. “Oh! or the Princess Bride, Stand By Me.”
“Yes! All those!” You squeal.
Baekhyun smiles and you shiver, half from it being like 15 degrees outside, and from his goddamn smile.
“It’s cold.” You murmur, hugging yourself.
Baekhyun stands, “Hold on, I’ll be right back.” Disappearing into the attic. He reappeared about a minute and a half later with a thick flannel blanket. “It’s the thickest one I could find.” He sits as close to you as he can and wraps the blanket around both of you. You melt into his warmth as you both sit in comfortable silence, looking out at the lake.
“Hey,” Baekhyun breaks the silence. “I just.. Look. I’m sorry for being so mean to you all these years. I know that I was cruel and you don’t have to forgive me, just know that I’m sorry.” He’s looking up at the stars, trying to avoid eye contact.
“Baekhyun,” He looks down at you. “I forgive you. I knew it wasn’t the real you.” You smile sweetly at him, giving him reassuring eyes.
“Thank you.” He says before wrapping his arm around your shoulders, pulling you into a hug. “So what kind of music do you like?” ___
You can see the sky turning different shades of pink and blue, the signs that the sun is about to rise.
“What time is it?” Baekhyun asks, he had his head on your shoulder playing with the fringe at the end of the flannel.
“Erm…” You take your phone out of your pocket. “Approximately 5:43am.” You state, tucking your phone back into it’s previous place.
Baekhyun shifts so he can look at you. “Are you tired?”
“Not really.”
You and Baekhyun had spent hours just talking about life in general, about people, about the world, everything. It was nice to finally see him for him.
“Do you wanna go swimming?”
You look down at him, his head still on your shoulder. “Right now?” he looks at you and nods. “But isn’t the water freezing?”
Baekhyun sits up, “So, it’s freezing all day, what’s the difference? Please please please.” He implored, giving you those puppy eyes again.
You give a long dramatic sigh, “Fine, I guess the sunrise will be beautiful from the water.”
Baekhyun shoots you a toothy grin before grabbing both the blanket and your wrist to drag you downstairs.
As he starts to walk towards the door you stop in confusion, “Wait. Are you not gonna get your trunks?”
Baekhyun turns around, “No” a smirk is played across his face.
Dear god.
You walk out the door and follow Baekhyun as you reach the lake. There’s a small wooden pier that Baekhyun takes you to the end of.
“Do you want to go first?” He asks as you look down at the water.
“Were going in fully clothed?” You ask confused.
Baekhyun looks at you, you watch as his fingers hook underneath the hem of his shirt before he pulls it off. “No, were not going in fully clothed.” And there it is again, that damn smirk that you can’t seem to get away from. Baekhyun continues with his shorts as you watch, frozen. It wasn’t until he was about to pull off his boxers you turn the opposite direction, until you hear a splash. You turn around to see a happy Baekhyun swimming in the light blue water. “Come on y/n, it’s almost sunrise.”
Shit. You start with your shirt, crossing your arms to pull it over your head. You close your eyes praising yourself for deciding to wear a cute bra today. Next you unbuttoned your shorts, pushing them down your legs, kicking them off when they reached your ankles. You turned away from Baekhyun to unhook your bra, letting the straps fall down your arms and then throwing it aside, covering yourself with your right arm. You look behind you to see Baekhyun’s eyes trailing up and down your backside.
“Hey turn around!” You scold, blushing at his intrusion. When he turns around you pull down your panties and try to slowly ease your way into the ice cold water. It was just shallow enough so you could stand, but also deep enough to cover your chest. As you refocus your gaze, you see Baekhyun turned away from you, looking at the pink sun just now peeking out from behind the trees. The sky was a beautiful mixture of pink, purple, and light oranges. You hike up the courage and swim till you’re standing right beside him. Suddenly Baekhyun puts an arm around your bare waist, constricting so that you’re close to him, your entire body heating up with something close to embarrassment. His hand travels up and down your side, feeling your skin beneath his touch. You’ve never experienced anything like this before, his touch, the feeling of his flesh pressed against yours is driving you over the edge. As you look down you can see his cock below the water, inviting you to touch, to taste. Your mouth starts to salivate knowing that he can probably see you just as well as you can see him, making you press your legs together as you remember the way his cock looked in his hands yesterday. You blush at the dirty thoughts that flood your mind, at how hard you’re pressing your thigh together. Just as you thought he was going to make a move, he swims in the opposite direction.
Goddamnit he’s such a tease.
“Ah I’ve never felt so free.” Baekhyun dips his head below the water, wetting his hair. “Y/n, this is the best idea I’ve had in ages.”
You start to swim around too, splashing Baekhyun occasionally when he decides to be an ass. ___
You rush inside going straight to the bathroom so you could peel off your cold wet clothes. You start to panic when you realize you don’t have any extra clothes with you and both towels are currently in the wash.
“Baekhyun.” You peek your head out from behind the door.
He comes out of the room and stands in the hallway, laughing lightly at your appearance.
“Can you bring me some clothes?” You ask trying as hard as you possibly could to not let him catch a glimpse of your body behind the door.
Baekhyun smiles a mischievous smile. “Sure.” He heads into the room and you could feel his smile radiating through you as he entered the hallway and gave you the small wad of clothes in his hand.
“Thanks.” You say high pitched and fast as you close the door almost too fast. When you unravel the wad of clothes you see that it’s just a large white plain t-shirt and a pair of pink panties. “Are you fucking kidding me.” you whisper to yourself. But its all you’ve got, so you put them on, tugging down the hem of the shirt as you walk out of the bathroom.
When you walk into the room Baekhyun is laying down on the bed, scrolling through something on his phone. When he looks up at you he smiles and opens his arms for you to come and lay down next to him, “C’mon, let’s at least get a couple hours of sleep.” You smile, crossing the room to crawl into bed with him, forgetting entirely about your lack of clothing. Baekhyun wraps his arms and legs around you just as he did the previous night, and you found yourself falling asleep faster than you had anticipated. ___
You wake up to an empty bed. Grabbing your phone from your nightstand you read 12:57pm. You stretch your limbs and think about the events that took place yesterday and this morning. It’s so crazy how literally a couple days ago Baekhyun was just the guy that hated you, that always made it certain that he didn’t care for you, the guy that you avoided to spare your own feelings.
You’re knocked out of your thoughts by a couple noises coming from the kitchen. You unwrap yourself from all the blankets and go to your suitcase to look for some shorts and a clean bra to put on. When you’re finished dressing you head out to the kitchen where you see Baekhyun sitting peacefully playing on his laptop at the dining room table.
He looks up to see you standing there “hey.” he says, standing to walk towards you. As he reaches you he places both hands on your waist and looks down at you, your face beet red as you stare up at him. Jesus Christ, what’s with him always grabbing your waist if he’s not gonna do anything further.
He smirks and lets go of you, walking into the kitchen to open up the fridge. He pulls out a Canada Dry and a string cheese. Still smirking he turns to face you. “You know you sleep talk.” ________________________________________________________________

The last day of the month only meant one thing to Joshua: it was time to clean. It wasn’t like he minded, it was routine for him. That, and he didn’t have anything better to do majority of the time. Every person under the roof was busy in one way or another, so he took the liberty of making sure they wouldn’t get consumed by the mess that accumulated in their rooms every month. He had cleaned up every room so far, and the final room left was the lone door at the end of the hall: Jihoon’s room.
Joshua gently knocked on the door and waited for a response. Upon hearing no footsteps, he carefully twisted the knob of the door and entered, mumbling a “sorry for intruding” under his breath as he did so.
He walked over to Jihoon’s desk and sorted out the piles of paper to make neater stacks and placed the pens and pencils back into their appropriate holders. He drew back the curtains and opened up the windows, allowing for a fresh breeze to blow into the room.
Jihoon’s room was never too messy, so there wasn’t much he needed to do. He quickly scanned over his surroundings before heading back over to the door. Just was he was about to exit, he realized that he had forgotten to change the sheets. He briskly walked over as he stripped the bed, neatly folding the sheets and placing them aside.
He lifted up Jihoon’s pillow and began to remove the case until he heard a clatter against the ground. He winced at the sound of the impact and got onto the floor, curious to see what could have dropped. He reached under the bed, feeling around until his fingers touched a smooth, cold surface. He furrowed his brows as he pulled it out from underneath the bed and held it up to his face. It was an empty glass vial.
His eyes widened upon realizing where exactly it came from and he immediately got up from the floor, quickly leaving the room. He walked in strides to the end of the hall where Jeonghan’s study was and threw the door open, not even bothering to knock. Jeonghan jumped in his seat at the sudden entrance and frowned at Joshua.
“You know you should always knock when I’m in my study, Joshua,” he said.
Joshua said nothing and walked up to Jeonghan’s desk, placing the vial right on top of his current work. “Look what you did,” he said accusingly. “There isn’t a single drop of that emotion left in this vial.”
Jeonghan picked up the vial and examined it all around. “Oh. You’re right.”
“Do you realize what you just did? Jihoon literally downed an entire vial of emotion and all you have to say is ‘oh’?” Joshua glared at Jeonghan, his frustration rising. “This was too dangerous, but you decided to play around anyways!”
“Don’t worry about it.”
Joshua’s eyes widened, and he had to sit down in order to process what Jeonghan had just said to him. “What did you just say? Who even let you be a witch?”
Jeonghan waved his hand. “I had everything planned out. The charm I gave him was supposed to nullify whatever intentional or unintentional effect that Y/N happened to put on him. That vial? Mostly useless,” Jeonghan said nonchalantly. “The green tea that you told me he made should already be lessening the effects since it’s already been a week. But because he drank the rest of the vial, he’ll probably have one final emotional outburst before it’s out of him completely.”
“Of course, classic Jeonghan. Making things more complicated than they need to be.” Joshua narrowed his gaze, positioning himself so that his legs dangled off the armchair of his seat. “What about the party? How’ll you think that’ll go?”
The witch pursed his lips, his attention returned to the work in front of him. “I don’t know, but it’ll be fun.”
Chan tugged at the collar of his dress shirt, the fit suddenly being too tight. He let out a sigh as he smoothed down his blazer, examining his reflection in the mirror. He gently pat his hair that he so meticulously gelled up and looked over to the wall clock. It was time to leave for the party.
He quietly stepped out into the hall and peered down both ends, making sure Soonyoung’s master wasn’t home. He then briskly made his way to the staircase and descended, quickly leaving the house. He let out a breath he didn’t realize he was holding once he was outside, taking in the cool evening air. The sun almost touched the horizon, streaks of orange filling the sky that faded into soft pinks and purples. Despite the beautiful scenery, it only reminded him that he had until midnight to fix everything.
As he began to walk down the sidewalk, he felt the invitation in his pocket getting heavier. Although he did want to return to you as Dino, the fear that you didn’t like him as Chan still lingered in his mind. How would you even react to the news? He recalled the path to the mayor’s home, making a left at one intersection, turning right at another. The large villa came into view, the sound of orchestral music reaching the streets. He approached one of the men at the gates and pulled out his invitation. Once looked over, he was admitted and the gates were closed behind him. There was no going back. He had to kiss you before midnight.
Despite being sick the week before, Jihoon had insisted that he walked you to the party. He told you that he didn’t want you getting lost, and you appreciated the kind gesture. Once you were admitted past the gates, you stopped to converse with another individual who complimented your dress. When you looked back to your right, Jihoon had seemingly disappeared.
You shrugged it off and assumed he had gone off to talk to someone he knew. You didn’t mind. You figured you would go look for Chan, seeing as he was supposed to be your date. Your eyes scanned through the crowd in the ballroom, mainly looking for the suit that matched your outfit. You let out a huff of frustration. He was nowhere within your line of sight. With nothing better to do, you decided to explore the mansion. You decided that you’d have better luck finding Chan that way instead.
“Don’t steal anything, Jun.”
“I wasn’t planning on it,” Jun responded with a roll of his eyes.
The pair found the ballroom a bit too stuffy for their liking and resorted to walking around the halls and mindlessly wandering in hopes of finding something that piqued their interest. Initially, they didn’t plan on going to the party. They weren’t invited. However with the knowledge that it was d-day for Chan, Minghao managed to get both him and Jun inside undetected. They knew he’d need help, and they were correct. Jun stopped and stuck his arm back, stopping Minghao.
“Someone’s in the halls, too. They have an aura,” he said quietly.
A figure walked into the hall the pair were in, but they didn’t seem like they had a destination. They were wandering, just like them. When the individual came closer, that was when the two realized it was you. Despite confidently sneaking into the party with the goal of helping Chan, the pair froze up on the spot. That was when they realized that they didn’t actually have any sort of plan.
You were walking with your eyes trained on the marble tiles, paying very little attention to your surroundings. It was until you heard the hitch of a breath when you looked up and your eyes met with two other pairs. It was an awkward staring contest from there, neither party knowing what to say. You didn’t know why two fairly attractive strangers were looking at you. Jun and Minghao didn’t know why you were examining their faces for so long. Your head slowly began to tilt to the side, your eyes narrowing.
“D-do I know you two from somewhere?” you stammered.
That seemed to break the spell, resulting in Jun elbowing Minghao sharply. Minghao turned to glare at Jun, but the familiar’s eyes had a look that screamed “now’s our chance”.
Minghao cleared his throat and stood up straighter. “You’re friends with Chan, right?”
“I am,” you replied slowly. “Who are you guys?”
“We’re also his friends,” Jun interjected. “He actually told us he was looking for you awhile ago.”
The confusion on your face was replaced with a bright smile. “Really? Where is he?”
“He…” Jun’s voice trailed off, unsure of what to say next.
“He told us that if we were to find you – which we coincidentally did – to tell you to meet him on the balcony on the second floor,” Minghao said, a forced smile on his face.
“Oh, okay, thank you!” you chirped, turning back around and walking back the way you came.
Once you were out of their line of sight, the two let out a simultaneous sigh.
“I’m not even sure if this place has a balcony on the second floor,” Minghao groaned, rubbing his temples.
“Whatever, we have to go find Chan right now,” Jun mumbled, grabbing Minghao’s arm and tugging him in the opposite direction you went. “Hopefully she gets lost looking for that balcony.”
Chan stood at the top of the steps that lead down to the dance floor. He leaned onto the railing, hoping that he’d be able to find you at a higher elevation. He looked down at his suit and scanned the crowd for a matching dress, but the giant mass of vibrant colors did little to help him in his search. He let out a dejected sigh and left the steps. Knowing you, he figured that you’d probably be wandering right about now.
The orchestral music began to fade away as he walked further from the ballroom, the empty halls only amplifying his tendency to overthink. Just when he visualized you getting on your broom and leaving him behind, he collided with another individual. He shook his head profusely, removing the thoughts from his head. He looked up to realize that he didn’t bump into one individual, but two: Jun and Minghao.
His eyes widened. “What are you two doing here?”
“Helping you,” Jun replied almost immediately. “Y/N is somewhere on this floor of the mansion looking for a balcony. We told her you would meet her there.”
“You ran into –”
“No time for questions,” Minghao interrupted, grabbing Chan by the shoulders and turning him around. He then began to push Chan forward. “She’s not on this side of the building, we’ve made sure of that. Check the other side.”
“W-wait just a second –” Chan stuttered, all the information coming at him too quickly for his taste.
“Chan, it’s a quarter to eleven,” Jun said urgently.
“Please tell time like a normal person,” Chan groaned, turning back impatiently.
“Ten forty-five,” Minghao clarified. “You have an hour and fifteen minutes.”
And with the time given to him, Chan took off down the hall, a “thank you” echoing off the walls.
Chan let out a frustrated huff as he passed a painting he swore he had passed at least six times before. He ran a hand through his hair, his initial sprinting now more of him dragging his feet. He glanced up at the wall clock he had also passed at least six times to find that exactly fifteen minutes has passed. He had been going in circles for fifteen minutes, yet you were nowhere to be found.
He reached the same godforsaken intersection for the seventh time and weighed his options once more. Left lead him in a circle. Forward was a dead end. Right lead back to the ballroom. There was no winning. He turned left once more with the sliver of hope that there was yet another intersection that he could have possibly missed. Just as he did, he saw two figures coming his direction. It wasn’t Jun and Minghao for sure, as one of the figures was visibly not as tall as the other. As they neared, he realized it was Jihoon and Joshua.
“E-excuse me?” he asked, hoping that he didn’t seem too out of breath from running earlier.
The two stopped and gave him a once over. It was Joshua that spoke first.
“Chan, right? You’re Y/N’s friend.”
“Yep, that’s me,” he responded nervously, avoiding their eyes. “I hope you don’t mind me asking, but have you seen her around? I’m supposed to be her date –” Chan stopped mid-sentence to better his choice of words – “no, her plus one, but I haven’t seen her all night.”
“She’s on the balcony. Go straight down and make a right at the end of the hall,” Jihoon said curtly, looking at Chan with some sort of disdain in his eyes.
Chan seemed to shrink under Jihoon’s gaze. He managed to stutter a small “thank you” before excusing himself down the hall, but Jihoon stopped him before he could even get two steps away from the pair.
“You like her, don’t you? It’s obvious.”
Chan froze, the tips of his ears heating up. He didn’t dare turn around.
“I just wanted to say that I don’t think she’d be interested in a rascal like you,” Jihoon continued. “She clearly likes that boy Hansol more. I’m sure you know who he is. Give it up.”
Joshua quirked his brow at Jihoon’s statement. Chan balled his hands into fists, digging his nails into the palm of his hands.
“That’s a bit harsh, don’t you think, Jihoon?” Joshua said quietly.
“I’m only stating facts so that Chan here doesn’t get the wrong idea,” Jihoon replied, saying Chan’s name as if it were some sort of poison in his mouth. “I don’t want him to get disappointed.”
“That doesn’t give you the right to –”
“I know.”
Joshua stopped and turned his head to look at Chan, whose shoulders were shaking.
“I know she’d never like someone like me. I know I’ll never be able to impress her or be anything more but a friend to her,” Chan whispered, his voice quivering. “But you clearly don’t know how much she means to me to have me running after her like this.”
Before the two could say anything else, Chan quickly made his way down the hall and turned left. Joshua let out a hum before returning his attention back to Jihoon, who had his brows furrowed in confusion.
“W-what just happened?” he asked slowly. “Did I say something to make that kid upset?”
“Don’t worry about it,” Joshua responded reassuringly, draping an arm over Jihoon’s shoulder and leading him back to the ballroom. “Everything from here should fall into place.”
It had taken you forever to find the balcony, and you let out a large sigh of relief as you felt the cool night air blowing down the hall. You followed the breeze leisurely, happy to have found Chan before the party was over. You did want to get one dance with him before it ended. After all, he was supposed to be your date. You reached the balcony, grinning when you saw a figure standing at the railing and looking out to the sea. You were about to call out Chan’s name when the figure turned around, revealing themselves to be Hansol.
“What are you doing up here?” he asked as you stepped onto the balcony.
“I don’t know, what are you doing up here?” you asked playfully.
Hansol rolled his eyes. “I live here.”
“That’s fair,” you said, nodding. You two then burst into a small fit of giggles and you joined him at the railing. “Chan told me to come up here. I was expecting him, not you.”
“I guess you could say I was expecting someone else, too.”
“Are you disappointed?”
“No. Are you?”
You let out a hum. “Nope. The more the merrier, I guess.”
You and Hansol stood there for what you assumed was at least thirty minutes. Thirty minutes and there was no sign of Chan. Just when you were about to give up and go back inside to continue your search, you heard someone step onto the balcony. Your face lit up and you turned around in hopes of seeing your best friend, but luck just didn’t seem to be on your side that night.
“Hansol?” a girl said softly, taking cautious steps towards you two.
“Umji!” Hansol exclaimed, motioning her to come closer.
The girl smiled shyly as she stood next to Hansol and gave you a small wave. “You must be Y/N. Hansol talks about you a lot.”
“He does? That seems like news to me,” you remarked. “What’s your name?”
“Her name is Yewon, but I call her Umji because there’s another Yewon in our class,” Hansol explained. He then slowly took her hand into his, a shy smile appearing on his face. “We also… started dating a while back.”
Umji began to blush and used her free hand to hide her face. “Don’t just say it like that!”
“How else would I say it?”
“Aw, how cute,” you mused. “I guess I’ll leave you two alone then, I need to go look for Chan.”
“Oh, wait!” Umji exclaimed. “Is he wearing a suit that matches your dress?”
You nodded. “Did you happen to see him?”
“Well, he was walking away from the balcony when I came,” she replied. “He was thinking out loud. I heard him mumble something about leaving and someone being right, but I could have heard incorrectly.”
“If he’s thinking out loud then that’s definitely him,” you murmured, pursing your lips. “Thank you, I’ll see you two around!”
Hansol and Umji bid you goodbye as you made your way back into the mansion. You didn’t know why Chan wanted to leave the party so early, but you did have a feeling that you knew where he was headed.
Chan sat at the edge of the docks, his socks tucked into his nice shoes and placed beside him. He had rolled up his slacks just enough so that they wouldn’t get wet while he let his feet dangle in the water. He bit his lower lip as he looked up at the moon. In about five minutes, it would be midnight. In about five minutes, he’d be stuck as Chan forever.
He then stared at the water, watching the moonlight sparkle against the soft waves. He felt his heart ache a bit, being reminded of the time you and him walked along the shore. It only hurt more when he realized the same smile on your face that night wasn’t special to just him. He saw with his own eyes. You gave the same smile to Hansol.
He felt the back of his eyes sting, but he was all out of tears. He just wanted things to be over with. He inhaled deeply and shut his eyes, waiting for the town clock to signal that it was midnight. In about four minutes, it was all going to come to an end.
He felt someone take a seat next to him, the shift in the wooden plank being the giveaway. He heard their feet dip into the water, and silence ensued after. He let out a sigh, his eyes still shut.
“I’ve failed, Soonyoung.”
Soonyoung didn’t reply.
“She’s with Hansol. I never had a chance, and I don’t even know why I tried so hard. Was it the circumstances I was in or was it something more? Either way, I’m an idiot, Soonyoung. The world’s biggest, hopeless idiot.”
Chan then tensed when who he assumed to be Soonyoung gently placed their head on his shoulder, the feeling being all too familiar to him.
“I may not be Soonyoung, but I don’t think you’re an idiot.”
Chan opened his eyes, his cheeks burning up when he realized you had heard his whole spiel. You were sitting right beside him, your arm linked around his. Your temple rested on his shoulder and you stared at the sea with a content look on your face.
“Though, you are an idiot for leaving the party without even letting me know.”
“Y/N, I –”
“You’re an even bigger idiot for thinking that I’m with Hansol,” you continued, a smile playing on your lips. “And you’re the biggest idiot for thinking that I don’t like you, because I do. But still, I don’t think you’re an idiot.”
You removed your head from his shoulder and looked at his now flushed face. You grinned and reached up with your free hand to pinch his cheek gently.
“Cute.”
“W-was it obvious?”
“No, not really,” you hummed. “I didn’t notice it. At least until Hansol mentioned the possibility, of course.”
“So you don’t like Hansol?”
“I don’t. I like you.”
Chan felt his stomach burst into butterflies that flitted all throughout his body. Hearing you say those three words made him feel as if he was on another plane of existence. However, he was brought back to reality when he realized there was only two minutes until midnight.
“Y-Y/N.”
“Hm?”
“I need to tell you something really important,” he said quietly.
“Go ahead.”
“Something that might change your whole view on me.”
“Yes?”
“Something that might –”
“Chan,” you interrupted. “Make your point.”
“R-right,” he stammered. “I only have around a minute and thirty seconds to explain but basically…” his voice trailed off at the end of his sentence.
“Basically?” you repeated slowly.
“Basically the first night you were here you said you wanted to understand me better so I snuck out and found Soonyoung who gave me a spell that turned me human except I won’t be able to turn back into a cat unless I kiss the love of my life within thirty days and it just so happens that the love of my life is you and I guess what I’m trying to say is that I need to kiss you before midnight if I ever want to be Dino ever again,” he said all in one breath, bracing himself for whatever you had to say to him.
He felt you unlink your arm from his and readied himself for the worst, but much to his surprise, he felt your hand gently touch his cheek. What happened next felt surreal. Your touch trailed to the back of his neck and you gently pulled him towards you. You stopped when his face was only centimeters away from yours, a gesture that you both knew was not hesitation, but an innocent form of consent.
“Why didn’t you just say so?” you whispered.
With that, your lips met his and the space between you two that felt universes apart ceased to exist. Chan felt himself melting into your touch, the chime of the town clock worlds away from the two of you. It was eleven fifty nine when you two kissed. It was eleven fifty nine when Chan had kissed the love of his life.
“Did you make the tea?”
“Chan made it,” you said proudly, reaching over to pinch your familiar-slash-boyfriend’s cheek. “And he didn’t set the kitchen on fire,” you cooed.
Chan pouted and scooted away from you. “But I didn’t start a fire last time!”
“You almost did, trying to use your magic.”
“Steeping takes too long.”
“But that’s what makes it good!”
Jihoon rolled his eyes. “You two bicker like a married couple.”
“We could be,” you joked, batting your eyelashes at Chan, who was rubbing his red cheek.
“You wish, witch.”
“I am what I am,” you shrugged, getting up from your seat. “I’m delivering books today. Does Chan want to come or does Dino want to come?”
Chan grinned at you. “I would rather stay home, but Dino’ll come if he can take a nap in your satchel.”
“Typical Dino,” you sighed, unhooking your satchel from the back of your chair. You moved a few of the parcels aside and held it open. “Whenever you’re ready.”
In a blink, the boy in front of you was replaced by a black cat. Jihoon watched curiously, the book in front of him forgotten.
“I still can’t get used to that.”
“Hansol and Umji can’t either,” you joked. “‘Oh my god, you’re dating a cat?’ No, I’m dating a boy that can switch to and from a cat. There’s a difference. It gets so tiring.”
“I don’t think they’re even used to the idea that you’re a witch,” Jihoon remarked. You heard a meow of agreement from Dino and you giggled.
“I’m sure they’ll get used to it sooner or later. I mean, his dad was nice enough to remove the whole witch ban thing.”
“I suppose you’re right,” Jihoon concluded. “Anyways, have fun delivering. Safe flying.”
You beamed at him in response and gave him a wave as you left through the garden door. “Thanks, Jihoonie!”
You walked over to your shed and retrieved your broom that rested against the wall. You carefully positioned yourself over your broom and shut your eyes. In a matter of seconds you found yourself in the air, the bookstore being the size of your hand.
“Where to first, Dino?”
He meowed and you groaned in exasperation.
“Really? Her?”
Another meow.
“Fine. I guess we can pay Soonyoung a visit while we’re there.”
Meow.
“Yes, his cat form still gives me the spooks,” you sighed, leading your broom in the right direction.
There was a slight pause before he meowed once more. You smiled, your cheeks heating up ever so slightly.
“I love you, too.”
