it’s so important to me when optimus and hot rod don’t have a mentor mentee relationship and optimus would never in a million years actively chose him to lead the autobots. i feel like that’s where a lot of other successors fail in appeal to me- like hot shot or smokescreen- because the matrix is essentially gifted to them.

#1986 movie…… *deadman floating*#i think a very valid interpretation of the 1986 movie is that the matrix was waiting for hot rod to become a valid successor #and that over the course of the movie by learning through his peers and from his own mistakes #(ie listening to kup’s universal greeting & him noticeably training to fight better on the ship)#(and more)#he becomes worthy #i don’t feel like anyone else has that true underdog charm #if optimus likes you ur a failure of a successor (JOKE)#but only a half joke #anyway.#i think it’s also an interesting portrayal of optimus. that he CHOOSES ultra Magnus.#who is ultimately not prime material #it’s an inherently flawed decision. I think it’s neat that optimus is wrong in a sense.#tf rollback
