thinking about. how merlin brings out the best in arthur and on the other hand arthur brings out the darkest parts of merlin. how arthur always tries to be better and do the right thing because merlin believes in him and he wouldn't want to disappoint him. because he believes merlin is good and he wants to be good for him. how merlin always ends up making the worst decision in his desire to protect arthur, doing things he never thought he'd do. how from saving arthur's life because that's a right thing to do, he goes to putting his life above any of his own morals.

while im absolutely devastated to have finished Dungeon Meshi, i kind of really love how ended with things not being "perfect".

Mithrun wasn't magically healed and will most likely continue rely on other to take proper care of himself. Marcille's lack of desire to care for her hair, which seemed rather important/helpful to her magic skills, might cause some issues in the future. Falin's appearance has been altered in a way that might never be reversible. Laios is forever cursed to never have his greatest desire (encountering monsters) fulfilled, while also having been tainted by the Winged Lion's own desire to eat, causing him to never feel full ever again.

those things can't/won't ever be fixed, mostly because it's most likely impossible. it gives a tinge of bittersweetness to it all, but it also sends such a profound message; this isn't the end. Mithrun's case is the best example, because he's still alive. it's not over yet! he can still live a life! maybe not the way he once expected, like any of them expected to live their life – but they can still continue to live it. the epilogue featuring Laios tells us that despite everything, he went on to be a great King, who cared and wanted to see the land prosper. that despite everything, he still went on to live a life.

there is just. something so comforting about it all. this bittersweetness, the hope, that despite disappointments, failure and hardships, you can still live a life.

wish we knew more about what vivienne was like as first enchanter of her circle. her insistence that the most dangerous thing to a mage is lack of knowledge is soo... cronching on it. i wonder how she handles the harrowings in her circle, since they traditionally rely on secrecy. especially given how badly her own harrowing rattled her and she was so young when she underwent it. many thoughts.

Does anyone else think about the ways the merge impacted the world beyond just a cultural/societal sense? Bc my geosci student ass is sitting here like ohhh so all their soil is fucked. Mixing of soils from diff realms is probs like introducing like a million more invasive species than anyone realizes (do you have any idea how alive soil is?) and fucking with the soil microbiome and agriculture is probably going to go to shit in one way or another. I’m sitting here like ohhh so all those dragons in the lava wastes might have kept developing wasting disease post-merge because volcanoes spew up different toxic shit depending (in part) on local geology and now that the volcanoes are in a new place they’re probably spewing new shit the dragons haven’t evolved to withstand. I’m sitting here like ohhh so with all the new chunks of land shoved haphazardly into Ninjago’s land by the merge has probably created new fault systems, subjecting places (which were previously seismically quiet) to earthquakes that their architecture and local psyche have never had to withstand before. Like ohhh okay their world is screwed whether or not the ninja stop mergequakes from happening. Like. Being a lego is not going to be very fun in the next few decades.
