Could we maybe see some Jin Ling or Ning Yingying from you?
YOU KNOW BETTER THAN TO THROW TWO COMPLETELY UNCONNECTED CHARACTERS AT ME AND NOT EXPECT ME TO SHIP THEM!! hmph!
Tumblr media
Ning Yingying had never expected Shizun to agree to sharing night hunts with other sects, yet here they were: purple-clad disciples sprinkled among the green of Qing Jing Peak—and one dressed in soft golds and yellows. Probably a guest to Yunmeng Jiang who had decided to tag along. Quite the flirt, she’d discovered during the hunt. Talented and excitable and quite unlike her shixiongs.
And he’d just invited her to visit Lotus Pier to meet his uncle…

A kiss to a scar, birthmark, injury, or other marking for the rarepair of your choice plz and thank you
Julie looked up from her book as she heard a knock at her window, seeing a familiar cheeky grin there. She was used to Reggie getting her attention this way-he'd been doing it since they were kids and he learned to scale her drainpipe.
Sometimes she would wave him off, but he usually got more insistent then, or would pop in through her window if it was unlocked-which it almost always was. She never wanted him to feel like he was unwelcome, or couldn't come to her if he needed an open ear, a refuge, or just a warm roof over his head.
Her dad knew about it of course-and even after he gave Reggie a key and an open invitation, he still appeared at Julie's window at night more often than not.
Tonight though, he was smiling, so Julie got up, peeking out at him. "What's up?"
"Come on, you're gonna miss the show!"
"I'm in my pyjamas!"
"So? Nothing I haven't seen before."
Julie scowled, but crawled out of the window nonetheless, making her way over to where Reggie was laying there, taking a space next to him. "Where's the show?"
Reggie pointed up, and Julie held back a gasp when she saw the sky full of stars. Usually smog clogged the view, so on the odd clear night, they always tried to get a glimpse of the heavens. Their hands found each other, clasping tight as they watched the sky pass by.
"There's Cygnus," Reggie said quietly.
"And Orion," Julie added, nodding to the constellation. "I think it's so cool that stories that happened or got created hundreds of years ago still exist, even get immortalized in the stars, like they get to live on."
"What, don't you believe in reincarnation?' Reggie teased.
"I don't think so, do you?"
Reggie shrugged. "I dunno, might be cool to come back in the next life as a dog or something. Plus there's a legend that birthmarks are a scar from your past life, which is cool."
"I've never heard that one before," Julie admitted.
"Yeah, some believe it's a memory of a wound of how your prior life ended. Like-" he lifted his shirt then, showing off a small dark patch on his side-"Maybe this is where my past life got stabbed or hit by a car, or-"
"Okay I get it!" Julie said, shaking her head. "That's morbid!"
"Yeah, maybe. What, you wanna kiss it better?" Reggie joked.
"Maybe I will!"
There was silence then, both of them looking at one another, dumbfounded. In all the years they had been friends, they had never even thought of kissing. But now the idea was there, and neither could wipe it from their mind.
"Go on then," Reggie dared, but his voice was hoarse and choked.
Julie leaned in, pressing a feather light kiss on the patch of skin, then pulled back. "All better?"
He nodded, finally dropping his shirt. "Do you have any place that needs kissing?"
Julie flushed, but pointed to her lips, even though they both knew she had a birthmark on her wrist that almost resembled a heart-he had often teased her about the literal heart on her sleeve.
Reggie took a hold of her hand, bringing her wrist up, placing a delicate kiss to the mark, then let the arm fall, cupped her cheek, and brought her mouth to his in a kiss that made Julie light up even brighter than all the stars in the sky.
When they pulled back, Reggie swore he could see the constellations reflected in her eyes-and kissed her again.
Maybe their love wasn't one written in the stars-but they surely had them to thank for it.

sweat - @marauders-rarepair-fics - words: 1,094
[For @crimsonlovebartylus: their rosebones post with those pictures popped up on my feed and I felt inspired and this came from it]
There’s part of Evan that saw this coming. That has long known he would eventually malfunction in some sort of way. When you’re damaged, malfunctioning is inevitable. It is unavoidable. As inevitable and unavoidable as aging. As loss. As betrayal. As pain. As death.
There’s also part of Evan, though, that had suspected (or, perhaps, even hoped) he was so far beyond irreparably damaged that this strange affliction would never grace him. That he would never have to worry about things such as romantic attraction and love. All of those fluffy, sunshine-and-rainbows feelings that are solely reserved for lovers of fairy tales and romance novels, and idealistic teenage girls, the people who have never been touched by the cold, sharp blade of reality like Evan has.
He doesn’t know what to do with those sort of feelings. He doesn’t know what to do with feelings. He so rarely has them.
Unfortunately, though, here Evan is trapped in this potentially one-sided tug of war with this boy (this boy, Salazar, this boy with his tattoos and his piercings and his taunting smile that makes something inside Evan grow and grow and grow). And Evan just doesn’t know how to respond. How to handle it.
Beyond throwing fists and throwing spells and and drinking like a fish and fucking his way out of the emotions and into oblivion.
And so this is what he does.
See, Evan is no stranger to sex. Sex is familiar territory. It was familiar territory before he should have been doing it, before he should have even known what it was all about. It’s physical. It’s intimate. It’s ‘chasing his release’. It’s ‘feeling something and knowing he’s alive’. It’s quick. It’s ‘in and out and be done with it’. No revisits, no repeats.
Maybe, actually, that’s where Evan went wrong. There were revisits and repeats. He broke his cardinal rule.
Evan drains his glass and stares across the room. The music playing is some slightly hyper muggle nonsense that has everyone in the room dancing like raucous nymphs. The alcohol flows freely as Barty handled the acquisition of it while Regulus bank rolled him. They’ve set up this security charm of sorts to protect the room, Regulus and Barty. They haven’t gone into the specifics, but apparently there’s a spell that they’ve called the ‘Blood Eagle’.
Dorcas has run off to ensure that they’re not actually intending on eviscerating any professor or caretaker who tries to catch them in-party.
And there, across the room where Evan stares, is that boy. Salazar, that boy. That Edgar Bones. With his eye liner and his piercings and the tattoos he has hidden that Evan found and revealed and tasted. That boy and the ghost of his skin against Evan’s that Evan recalls, feels, even now.
That makes him go warm inside, so warm he thinks he might burn up.
Fuck. Fuck it all to hell.
Evan wants to climb into bed and hide from the world. He wants Barty and Regulus to hold him, the way they always insist on holding him, and to burrow himself into his little cocoon of a family and never emerge. See, Evan knows love. He has love, the eternal and unconditional sort. He just doesn’t know the conventional kind of love that's supposedly ‘written in the stars’. The mythical kind offset from reality. The ‘go grey, grow old together’ kind of love that doesn’t fucking exist.
Fuck that kind of love. Fuck all and sundry. Evan wants nothing to do with it.
‘Did you have fun?’
Evan practically jumps out of his skin. His first instinct is to punch the source of the sound. And he tries to, only Edgar is quick and dodges him, because of course the bastard saw it coming.
Evan scowls. He would go in for another punch—he wants to, he thinks that Edgar would wear the bruises and blood quite nicely—only Edgar is smirking at him and it's almost menacing. So nasty for a Hufflepuff, Evan remembers saying to him.
I’m patient. Dedicated. Hard-working. Loyal, Edgar had said. There’s nothing about needing to have all the traits.
Edgar’s stare is hard and penetrating. He leans against the wall next to Evan, so close that Evan can feel his warmth and see the bird tattoo peaking out beneath his partially-unbuttoned shirt.
‘Jealous, Bones,’ Evan says.
Edgar frowns. His intense stare is gone. ‘Yes,’ he says. ’Terribly jealous. But that was your intention, wasn’t it?’
Of course. Of course Edgar saw him leave with that Ravenclaw girl. Evan had wanted him to see. He’d wanted him to know what they were going to do, what they eventually did do. He’d wanted it to chase Edgar away, to scream at Edgar: I am not built for this game. I am damaged.
So why does Evan feel? Like there’s something growing in his chest he can’t quite identify and name. It makes his heat race. It makes him feel warm. It stifles his breath in his chest.
And he doesn’t fucking know why.
Edgar passes him a glass of what looks like vodka mixed with some form of juice. ‘Hi,’ he says with a small smile, ‘how are you doing?’ When Evan just stares blankly at him, Edgar smiles a bit wider. ‘It’s called conversation, Rosier. See, I can be friendly.’
‘You’re in my space,’ is all Evan says in return.
Edgar laughs, taking a sip from his own glass, and gestures for Evan to drink. ‘You’ve been avoiding me. Don’t give me that look. You have. And you’ve been eye-fucking me across the room all night. And then you left with Delia, so apparently you’re also fucking-fucking with me. Did she do it for you, Rosier? Or can I do it for you.’
And there it is again. The warmth that floods Evan. The way his heart threatens to beat out of his chest. The way his breath stops short in his throat. The slightly dizzy, sick feeling he can’t explain away as he hasn’t had enough to drink to cause such an affliction.
Evan just doesn’t understand.
He glances over to where Barty and Regulus are laying on the couches by the fireplace. Come save me, he wants to say, because he’s weak. Sweet Cierce, is Evan weak and utterly ruined. But they won’t come and save him. They’re so used to him sneaking off for a quick shag that they generally just leave him to it.
They don’t know about this boy who is trying to destroy Evan from the inside out.

Thanks for the tag @branwendaughterofllyr
1. How many works do you have on ao3(or masterlist)? 20
2. What’s your total ao3 word count? 568,678
3. What fandoms do you write for? ASOIAF/F&B/HOTD and ROTE (Realm of the Elderlings)
4. Top five fics by kudos? All Kings Are Beautiful; Inside a Chrysalis, Writhing; Our Fathers Clad in Red; Sunlight and Air; Unbound and Infinite
5. Do you respond to comments? Yes! I might miss a few here or there, but I try to respond to most comments.
6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending? I think it's probably My Sister's Letter, a fic I wrote that takes place several decades after the end of Assassin's Fate
7. What is the fic you wrote with the happiest ending? Sunlight and Air, probably, my ROTE post F&F fix-it
8. Do you get hate on fics? I've gotten a few weird comments on All Kings Are Beautiful, mostly people being weird about me not writing Aegon as a hardass warrior. The most recent one was someone complaining that the fic shouldn't be tagged neutral because Rhaenyra doesn't become queen lol
9. Do you write smut? I have, occasionally, but it's not usually super explicit
10. Craziest crossover? I've never written any crossovers!
11. Have you ever had a fic stolen? Nope!
12. Have you ever had a fic translated? Not that I know of!
13. Have you ever co-written a fic before? Yes! Our Fathers Clad in Red is co-written with @aifsaath
14. All time favorite ship? Braime, probably. The rest of my ships are mostly rarepairs and crackships. RegalGold still has me in a chokehold, and of course my beloved Baegon.
15. What’s a wip you want to finish but doubt you ever will? All of my unfinished fics that are published I do plan to finish. I have a WIP in my drafts for a Fitzloved fic set during Fool's Assassin that I will probably never get to.
16. What are your writing strengths? Internality, dialogue, characterization.
17. What are your writing weaknesses? Description. I can write good descriptions, but I'm more of a verbal person than a visual person. My co-writer often jokes that I'm the screenwriter and she's the director of photography.
18. Thoughts on dialogue in another language? I tend to use italics and dialogue tags, unless the other characters aren't meant to understand what's being said.
19. First fandom you wrote in? Realm of the Elderlings, if you don't count the thinly veiled Star Trek knockoff I wrote when I was thirteen before I knew fanfic existed (pre-internet!)
20. Favorite fic you’ve written? Right now it's Our Fathers Clad in Red, but I'm also very proud of my Realm of the Elderlings Modern AUs. They're niche as fuck but I think they're fun.

Writing Patterns
Rules: List the first line of your last 10 (posted) fics and see if there’s a pattern!
Tagged by: @doggernaut and @montrealmadison my besties!!! I am so touched!!!!! and aren't we lucky that I just hit 10 posted fics?? And because I can't stop yapping, I put a little note about each of them.
austin (check, please!, bitty/jack)
"Jack comes to Georgia like a summer thunderstorm."
(this one is alternately titled 'I went through a lot of breakups last year and got into country line dancing and it shows')
call of the champions (check, please!, lardo/camilla)
"It’s Lardo and her board."
(THE FUCKING FIC. I AM SO PROUD OF HER. and also I bought a sick salt late city 2002 olympics leather jacket because of it and it's basically my whole personality)
creation myth (check, please!, bitty/jack)
"It goes like this."
(this is me and @montrealmadison's magnum opus, and I learned how to bind books just to immortalize it)
sloshed with gold (check, please!, bitty/jack)
"Jack’s phone starts ringing halfway through his Tuesday morning jog."
(if you like nhl!bitty and photographer!jack, she's your jam. not sure if I will ever like the way I wrote this one but eyyyyyy it exists)
rocket man (voltron, keith/lance)
"The fireflies were flickering above Keith’s dark hair to light the path. He stood on the porch as Lance looked out from the doorway. There was a moment of silence. “You will help me keep him here this time, won’t you?” he asked."
(I won't apologize for voltron. I am too far past the shame. i wrote a paper on voltron queerbaiting and it got me into college. I owe her everything.)
season of the witch (check, please!, bitty/jack)
"Sometimes, Bitty gets carried away with baking."
(um fun fact there's apparently been a typo in the first line of this one for the last THREE YEARS ?????? its fixed now but dear god. I would delete this if it didn't have the second most hits of any check please fic i've written. I cant reread it it makes me want to die.)
don't waste another mile or minute (not kissing me) (voltron, keith/lance)
"Light. An unusual amount of light. Keith throws his elbow over his face as he peels his eyes open, wincing as the sun blasts through an open window."
(an OLD banger that I wrote at my first internship because it was so boring. some clever lines but my writing has improved tenfold since 2018)
and all I can taste is this moment (voltron, adam/shiro)
"There is absolutely nothing like flying, Takashi Shirogane, sixteen, almost-professional pilot, assumes. He assumes because he hasn’t been allowed to fly (yet), but if the simulator gives him any idea of what flight is like, Shiro is going to be hungry for it for the rest of his life."
(my magnum opus before creation myth, and the longest thing I've ever written (48k). yall ever yolo on a rarepair and write a biblically accurate cold war fic? no? just me? ok.)
last sunrise in the wasteland (voltron, keith/lance)
"The first time that Keith kisses Lance, the sky is the color of cotton candy. "
(this is my fic with the most hits which is great except there's a softcore porn scene in it I forgot about and subsequently subjected my grandpa to when he was reading it and making edits for me. so now it makes me want to die a little thinking about that. no he never brought it up.)
In my veins (carry on, baz/simon)
"On the worst day, Baz wakes up in Simon’s arms, the cursed tattoo glaring at him in the morning sunshine. Simon is still passed out, body curled into Baz, chestnut curls bouncing with each heady breath. The mark bitten onto his neck from the night before flashing like a highway sign on his neck."
(once someone bookmarked this with the tag 'out of character' and it has haunted me every single fucking day since I read that. WHY DID THEY BOOKMARK IT IF THEY DIDN'T LIKE IT. sorry it drives me crazy. I DONT UNDERSTAND.)
Tagging (no pressure, and anyone else can also jump in!): @justlookfrightened @bittysthesis @chaoskiro @zimbits-my-love @parseisflat @a-very-gay-disaster @dessertwaffles

DIAMOND CUTTERS/CRACKED DIAMOND AU HEADCANONS PART 1: SLINGER (AND SLANGLE)
Tumblr media
JUMPSCARE! YOU'RE ABOUT TO GET A CRAP TON OF HEADCANONS FOR THE DIAMOND CUTTERS AND MY SILLY CLUSTER OF AUS ABOUT THEM! RAREPAIR AND OBSCURE CHARACTER ENJOYERS, GET YOUR FOOD!
First up, the flirty gender pilled ocelot with the gay little gun tricks!
Slinger Headcanons:
they're genderfluid and transfem (partly because I thought she was a girl when Mimic first shapeshifted into her.) This also means shipping them with Tangle is still yuri (important.) I dub her they/she + "gun" as a neopronoun for fun. Also let her wear whatever clothes they want.
She's also Mexican/Central American! Very clear accent, occasionally splices Spanish words into their dialogue, much like Tangle’s now-agreed-upon Italian. Says “Vamos!”, “Dios mio!” and “Que?” a lot. Also insults Badniks and other opponents in Spanish.
Pansexual apocalypse, easily INTENSELY flustered, they had a stupid celebrity crush on Sonic before the betrayal/actually meeting anyone. (Old idea I’m keeping alive, heck, maybe have another sub-AU for that.) Then in her “survivor” timeline, she finally meets Tangle and the epic 100k idiots to lovers slowburn yuri is real.
They’re EXTREME ADHD. She juggles, she keeps at least two fidget spinners on hand always, she needs to toss and twirl things or he’ll explode. She and Whisper and Tangle stim together a lot.
Backstory! The “mysterious past” reference doesn’t exist if I don’t look at it, so she and Claire were actually sibling-dynamic friends as far back as Slinger can remember, having grown up together in a jungle treehouse village. (Definitely didn’t come up with that just because ocelots and howler monkeys live in the same place, haha.) Things happened in the Forces war, next thing you know they both met Smithy (and soon after Whisper) and were inducted into the mercenary found family.
THEY’RE A CAT. Younger than Big and wayyyy more impulsive than Blaze, they do MANY MANY CAT THINGS. They have whiskers, they’re a liquid, they lick themself clean, they act like it’s daytime when it’s pitch black out, they miiiiiight have eaten a couple of mice, they purr when rubbed, all of it. This is also how you tell her apart from Duo, who is a fake cat and clueless to cat behavior.
Slinger, past and present, is still super cool and suave in battle, but a complete and utter LOSER in casual times, more than Claire, more than Whisper, they're such a fucking girlfail
They were definitely the “kid” of the team, moreso even than Whisper. They pulled pranks, did stupid stunts, and worried Claire and Smithy sick. In the timeline where they survived, they were VERY okay on their own! So utterly okay!
AU-Specific Headcanons:
Tumblr media
They were never “shut-in” as the Guardian Angel - they still tried their best to act cool and suave, in spite of the anxiety below. They completely hid their appearance beneath masks and hoods, but still taunted and quipped at their adversaries and would sometimes talk rather openly to Resistance members lucky enough to interact with them long enough, though still never giving any context to who she was or what her deal was - or a clear view of his real face.
She wouldn’t use the same Wispon as canon Whisper - a gigantic rifle just isn’t their style. Instead, she’s gotten a lot better at physical combat to compensate for it - she managed to teach herself to Spin Attack, and can even do a crazy "Panjandrum" move where they fire their laser guns wildly while rolling. They’re decently fast now, but not as fast as any “speedster” character - think more like Amy, Tails, or heck, a realistic interpretation of the Forces Avatar.
They talk to their Wisps a lot. She constantly feels alone and doesn't want to be, and forever thanks Smithy for giving them a way to always talk to their companions somehow. She needs people to talk to, she really does, heck, give her a bit of a Yakko Warner complex if you want. Fortunately, Tangle logically helps with that a lot.
They FIRMLY saw Mimic as a father figure, and are FUCKING PISSED at him for stabbing and discarding everything they had. Him fucking around IMMEDIATELY cuts off Slinger's silly goofy mode and activates IMMA FIRIN MA LAZAH mode.
In Slinger’s timeline, Mimic’s Duo disguise was the feminine-androgynous “Duo the Hound,” using Whisper as the basis. Slinger got to pistol-whip him repeatedly and then dump him into the sea, don’t worry.
Tumblr media
Tangle in this timeline is… girl-leaning panromantic. Blaze cemented her queer awakening, but Slinger, whose gender is fucked as hell, is the one she fell for hard. Slinger would get VERY worried about whether she feels the same towards them or not, but it doesn't matter what's in their legs or their head to Tangle - they're Slinger.
Slinger’s love language turns out to be the same as Tangle’s - doing stupid and dangerous things to impress her crushes. Ultimately Jewel and Lanolin have to LOUDLY tell them that they’re in love with each other and should kiss and go out on a date before they both get themselves killed beating around the bush. (That, or they just full-on kiss at the conclusion of Urban Warfare or even the Metal Virus, considering Slinger is much more open.)
Slinger is just as willing and encouraging to talk to Tangle about her fears as vice versa, in a direct manner at least. It is not “moon gets hurt and sun comforts her,” they’re kinda both cloud-obscured suns who goof off but also traumadump to each other.
Slinger can cook and prepare Mexican cuisine just fine. Them trying to cook anything else results in a kitchen-sized laser explosion (don't even ask how.) Their food living together basically amounts to alternating Mexican and Italian with Tangle occasionally baking something she found online in between.
Tangle comforts or supports Slinger whenever they have gender issues, she figured out they were genderfluid basically the moment they got the chance to try new clothes. Slinger silently, awkwardly asked her if she could try on a really twirly dress and she was just so understanding and said they looked absolutely beautiful and AGHHHHHHHHHHHH and now it’s their girly comfort outfit.
tangle is significantly taller than slinger. height difference. (slinger is significantly taller than sonic though lol, big tangle supremacy)
Slinger and Tangle cuddle super tight and warm and fall asleep together BOTH PURRING do you get my vision
Big headcanon posts for the other Cutters and their sub-AUs coming at some point.

OH I WANNA RAREPAIR! heres one I think about Iida × Bakugo LISTEN
Imagine bakugo sits on the desk and any other annoying thing because hes trying to get iidas attention Bakugo is not verbal when he flirts normally he says whatever he wants but he is very shy when it comes to these kinds of things at first. So he just keeps doing these little things to tic him off everyday at school until iida finally confronts somehow it turns into something where this line can be used by Bakugo "You wanna kiss me so bad it makes you look stupid" and then they actually do kiss.
My second and most preferred way is that when Bakugo and Iida kiss it's in the classroom after everyone has left already and they start talking about something doesnt matter just something that leads the conversation to Bakugo going "just do it then." And they are so close Iida leans down a little and kisses Bakugo who kisses back and when they pull apart they just stare at eachother like, did that just really happen? Did we kiss? And the first thing Bakugo says is "you better not ever tell Deku about this" and Bakugo goes home that day so stricken with confusion that he actually may really like Iida
Down the road of their friendship developing he preferable calls him glasses over four eyes cause it's a little nicer and one day they actually talk it out and start dating and only the bakusquad know and maybe Tsu and Uraraka but not Deku and Uraraka keeps trying to make mention to Iida to tell Deku and he doesnt know how to tell him so hes been putting it off.
The reason he doesnt wanna tell Deku is because everyone and their grandma knows Deku has a little crush on Bakugo and Bakugo just fell out of it couldn't mutually feel those feelings for him MEANWHILE deku fully just knows about Iida and Bakugo cause he knows everything about Bakugo there ain't nothing he can hide Deku doesnt see HE SEES HOW THEY STARE AT EACHOTHER BEFORE CLASS.
One day he accidentally catches them kissing outside the classroom and Iida's talking real fast like. "MIDORIYA I CAN EXPLAIN we were going to tell you it just-" he stops him with his hand and just goes. "I know already I have known for a while now its okay"
I can go on but this ask is long enough.
okay, first of all, I am on my knees to apologize for not responding to the asks sooner, just life is crazy and I'm in another country so I hardly have time to sit and read! but I'm here now please don't hate me <3
now second of all, I have never thought about this pairing before, I'm usually a hardcore bkdk with occasionally tdbk or krbk but the way u worded it makes me fall for them a bit!!!
no matter how wrong people say this is (and they might be right) but bakugo flirts with insults and being a little shit it's just who he is sawrri, so I can definitely see him not knowing how to properly convey his interest and just resulting to annoying iida and insults here and there, nothing too much cause he's not fucking stupid !!
the kiss scene.. I'm all behind u on that, def like a "just do it then" kiss, as a izuku stan I'm so happy you included him somehow in the narrative cause yeah no matter what they gonna be in each other's lives, and I think he would be the first one to admit defeat because he would be the first to realize bakugo had a new crush (even before the man himself!)
he wouldn't actively push them to each other but I think he would back off a little and just let life run its course and when it happens he would assure bkg a lot (and cry himself to sleep after).
but anyways, I can see the appeal of this pair, it's interesting to see how many different combinations exist in the fandom, send me more yall!!

Everyone knows I'm deranged about Digimon Survive, but here are some unhinged things I did while in other fandoms!
MHA:
Was a leader on the kiribaku amino.
Amino.
Amino.
Let that sink in just a little longer.
Participated in a secret santa event in said amino by compiling the most requested prompts by all the members and writing for all of them. Why did I do that to myself!
Hetalia because yes I was that cringe:
Opened a short story collection to requests, forgot to specify things I didn't want to write, didn't want to turn down my first request, and wrote abo smut. I think I was like 15 at that point ksjskd I cannot express strongly enough how much I do now and did then hate abo
...changed my pfp to a sfw screenshot from an nsfw comic because I thought it was funny that no one could call me on it without admitting they recognized where it was from💀 yeah I was...one of those kids 💀💀💀💀
Kingdom Hearts:
Wrote 200k words worth of fic for that fandom. For reference I've only done ~40k for Survive.
Most of it was for a rarepair that never met in canon because something is very wrong with me! A lot of rest was for pairs that have met but are still also rare because again something is very wrong with me!
I reread. The entirety of Roxas's diary from 358. Just so I could emulate his writing style for a fic.
Actually ran a gimmick account for a while! I haven't done that before or since!
Temporarily replaced my entire personality with really loving Vanitas. Kinda like how I am with Kaito rn but somehow even worse. Somethin about a fucked up black and red color scheme boy 😔😔😔
Talked about it SO MUCH irl that two of my friends literally stopped wanting to talk to me anymore cuz they were so sick of hearing about Roxas
Genshin Impact:
Wrote a joke fic for a ship I hate but accidentally took it too seriously to the point where it was not clear that it was a joke and it became my second most popular fic not on that account but of all time and I'm STILL angry about it
Wrote one of the first 5 fics to ever exist for, you guessed it, another rarepair
I...see this isn't about my behavior in the fandom necessarily but it's kinda embarrassing how feral I went over Thoma. Like,,,spent money on the game for the first time just to get a weapon that matched his outfit, built a whole ass shrine to him in my in-game home, GOT MY EARS PIERCED DO YOU KNOW HOW EMBARRASSING THAT IS, listened to nothing but his theme song for a very very very long time, bought entirely too much merch of him/him and Ayaka, refused to take him off my team no matter how useless pyro was even in floor 12 spiral abyss, and perhaps most embarrassing of all...read x reader fanfic for the first time since I was literally 11 💀 That man DID something to me y'all
Sasaki to Miyano:
Knew the manga so well that I could tell you exactly what chapter any given scene was from
Sent a different picture of Sasaki to my irls' gc every day for over 200 days
Got better at baking and learning recipes for friends as a way of expressing affection because that's what Sasaki does

reviving a meme I previously got from @swinging-stars-from-satellites
1. How many works do you have on Ao3?
158 (one currently unrevealed).
2. What’s your total Ao3 word count?
103,185. I cracked 100k recently!
3. How many fandoms have you written for?

4. Top 5 fics by kudos?
Skipping kudos bot victims:
Ms Smith (13 and Sarah, fun with fake names)
don’t worry, he’s with me (Ten and Donna five-times-fic)
Vicarious (Six & Martha drabble)
Time Flies Like an Arrow (witches fly on a broomstick) (Discworld, Lancre Witches, having a philosophical conversation about time) (I have come to detest this title but I’m glad people enjoyed the fic)
to all our nights and days to come (Seven/Romana Time War AU)
It’s helpful to include extremely popular, well-known characters in your fics. Or, apparently, to write a slightly darker twist on your rarepair OTP and happen to plug it one day on a relevant popular post.
5. Do you respond to comments? Why/why not?
I do, because I love getting comments and I am always genuinely grateful to hear that someone has enjoyed my work!
6. A fic you’ve written with the angstiest ending?
Wow, last time I did this meme I said it was That Which We Call. That’s changed. It might actually be to all our nights and days to come, or else one of the Six-post-Trial ones.
7. Do you write crossovers?
Apparently! But not much, and not well.
8. Ever received hate on a fic?
Nope, touch wood.
9, Do you write smut?
Not my thing.
10. Have you ever had a fic stolen?
Not that I know of.
11. Ever had a fic translated?
Yes!! @sci-firenegade translated Making History into Portuguese! It is so cool.
12. Have you ever co-written a fic?
Sort of, with Moki! We more tend to write sequels to each other’s stuff, but we also have listed ourselves as co-authors on a couple of things.
13. All time fav ship?
Seven/Romana.
14. WIP you want to finish but don’t think you ever will?
Never say die! Probably the Eight/Charley babyfic AU, though. If I go back to it it’ll be as a very different writer and I’ll probably want to rework what exists and it’ll be technically a different fic.
15. Writing strengths?
Character voices & dialogue. Also, focalization. I always know what A thinks of B and what B notices about A, which is hilarious as I absolutely do not know any of this in real life.
16. Writing weaknesses?
Used to be length; I’m still very brief but I feel like I have more control over the length of a fic now. Like it comes out more or less the length I expect it to; I can tell what size something’s gonna be. Probably now I would just say plot. I’m not great at Things Occurring. And like everybody else I get hung up on how to describe basic actions like walking across a room.
17. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in a fic?
Don’t do it if you can’t get the other language right (as well as how code-switching actually tends to work). Also, translation convention exists for a reason. Probably don’t pull an ‘opening lines of War and Peace’ unless you are in fact Tolstoy, in which case you don’t need my writing advice. Nothing inherently wrong with it though.
18. First fandom you wrote for?
Officially, DW. Unofficially, probably something as a kid before I knew fandom existed. Redwall or something.
19. What’s your fav fic you’ve written so far?
to all our nights and days to come, probably.
Not tagging anyone, but memes are for stealing!

20 Questions for Fic Writers
Tagged by @frankenjoly omg thanks i just got home from school i need this
1. How many works do you have on ao3?
I have 57 rn and i still can't believe i have that many fics,, it used to be more than that but i had deleted some of my older fics for an old fandom i was once in
2. What's your total ao3 word count?
127,635 words (and counting hopefully once i get out of this slump)
3. What fandoms do you write for?
Right now i mainly write for BSD. I used to write for the fantastic beasts and where to find them fandom from 2018 to the first half of 2020 but i stopped cuz i left (you can still find my fics for that fandom in my ao3 and wattpad profiles)
4. Top five fics by kudos
Bored (BSD) - a little domestic fluff fic feat. Ranpo being perpetually bored while Akiko is busy working
A Night at the Scamander Household (Fantastic Beasts) - wherein the Newt and Tina are awoken in the middle of the night by their youngest son who's unable to sleep
Tattoos and Soulmates (Fantastic Beasts) - newtina soulmate au where you have matching tattoos with your soulmate

Yes, but not always. I like interacting with those who read my fics and seeings their comments just motivates me to write more
6. What's the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?
i mostly write fluff but i have tried my hand at writing angst although i'm not sure if those fics count as that cuz i feel like i don't have the skill to properly convey the angsty feelings for it to be considered angst
but if i had to choose out of all the attempts i made at angst, i'd say If "Happy Ever After" Did Exist, I Would Still Be Holding You Like This and Con Flores (Te Llevaste Mi Tristeza Con Colores)
7. What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
again, i write fluff so basically all of them have happy endings or are just generally happy overall. i can't really pick one of them dasjkgkas

i think i tried writing once although it wasn't a fanfic. i cringed hard and never tried writing smut for a fic again. but if you guys saw my character ai chats involving my ships-
10. Do you write crossovers?
no
11. Have you ever stolen a fic?
i hope not. i always try to make sure all my works are original, but if i do take inspo from another fic i always make sure to ask

yes! i think i had two or three fics translated some time ago by other people online (with my permission ofc) and that honestly makes me feel so proud??

17. What are your writing weaknesses?
procrastination, my inconsistent english grammar, and constantly setting standards that are a little too high whenever i write something
18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language?
i'm fine with it ig? englsih is my second language and i don't usually write full dialogues in another language. i usually only include words in another language but never full dialogues

your post about mailee says everything i’ve felt about how this fandom (and many others) treat female characters, especially in the context of sapphic shipping.
i could never personally get into mailee due to the annoyance that is it’s fandom. the constant bashing of certain sapphic ships by proclaiming them as toxic (as if that isn’t the appeal) was so annoying to see in 2020 that it sadly left a sour taste in my mouth.
it also just fits into the most boring stereotypes of cute and fluffy sapphic ship!! something that tends to be the case nowadays.
but even with all that aside it’s obvious why mailee exists. they’re a side pairing for more popular ships and oh what a surprise, it’s a mlm ship leading it. i can’t deny that zukka fans mostly contribute to mailee content because they do but also how deeply annoying it is to see this pattern of wlw side pairing for mlm over and over again.
especially with atla of all shows. a show that actually has a complex female character whose unintentionally lesbian-coded but people will not bother exploring her queerness because shes “mentally ill” or “too much” or “she doesn’t need that rn” or whatever excuses people come up with.
it’s a shame to see all this play out but i’m not surprised. at the end of the day it’s always going to be mlm or f/m at this point.
oh wow i'm glad to hear i'm not the only one feeling this way!! like i mentioned in my previous post, i honestly don't really like mai, but i've tried to get myself to over the years. in 2019 i had rewatched the show and thought "hey, mai and ty lee are kinda cute together, i still don't love mai but maybe i could if i try to think more deeply about her character and see if i can find some meta and fics and such that flesh her out and examine her good points. maybe ty lee could be someone who really understands her and brings out the good in her". but mailee was very much a rarepair back then and i could only really find fluffy drabbles to read. i like fluffy drabbles and all, but they just weren't what i needed in this case. so then in 2020 the show gets put on netflix, i come back from a tumblr hiatus to see there's been a massive fandom renaissance, and now mailee is so popular it's getting to high numbers on weekly fandometrics lists! great!
so then i again look for content about them and see that a ton of it is either zuko-centric or zukka-centric with them as a side pairing at best, and zukka just isn't for me. i have a close friend who ships it so i understand the appeal, but i'm always and forever a zutara stan. i could've multishipped (i do reblog cute fanart of them on occasion) if i didn't keep seeing things from the zukka side of the fandom that really frustrate me, this being one of them. and every time i choose to dive back into the fandom and see if things have improved it's still the same, i should not have to go through 53 of the most kudos'd fics in mailee's tag before i find a fic about them especially since they have less than 1/5th the amount of fics as zukka in the first place, and it just makes me sad that this is an issue in almost every fandom. i may not like mai, but you would really think the people making shippy content involving her would like her and be willing to actually focus on her in said content!
as for the constant bashing of other more "toxic" f/f ships and unwillingness to examine another female character's complexity and potential queerness while using her mental illness as an excuse... i believe i know exactly who and what you're talking about it's an issue with certain mailee content for me as well. see, even though i've loved ATLA since i was a kid and have been on the internet just as long, i used to always dismiss the concept of tyzula because i myself never appreciated azula enough and wasn't interested in ships with her (and because frankly i really hate how azula's voice actress sexualizes the ship). but on my current rewatch of the show i've started loving azula a lot more and now like to imagine her redeemed and happy, repairing her damaged relationships with her family and friends and maybe even falling in love. i've realized that part of the appeal of tyzula for me is that while, yes, azula's entire dynamic with both mai and ty lee is toxic and messy during the show, i don't personally think it always was. i think the three of them were genuine friends until things gradually got fucked up because of how ozai's treatment of azula fucked her up. and i think that if azula were to have a redemption arc, the 3 of them could salvage what once was and have a healthy friendship again.
a lot of mailee fans do not seem to agree with this, though, because i've seen several metas and headcanons that rely on the idea that the two of them were always just afraid of evil, nasty azula and that they can bond over how much they hate her. i am not here for that, and yeah, i'm also not here for the whole "this ship would never work because [insert character] just isn't ready for a relationship, i ship them x therapy!!" thing fandoms love to use as a way to demonize certain ships. mentally ill people can be in happy, loving relationships and they can go to therapy while in said relationships. they can even use therapy to--gasp--figure out how to keep their mental health issues from getting in the way of continuing to have healthy relationships! this happens in real life and i fully believe it can happen in a fantasy cartoon for children. also, i know some people use the comics to justify the idea that mai and ty lee have just always hated and been afraid of azula, because apparently it's implied in those that they were fake friends? but fuck the comics, they're OOC and horribly written lmao.
this ended up being a much longer reply than i initially intended but yeah, all this is to say that i 100% agree with you and thank you for sharing your thoughts, anon. sapphic ships and the female characters within them deserve just as much space in fandom as m/m and m/f ships get, to be fully explored and appreciated in their own right and even to sometimes be complicated and imperfect.

Dear JatP,
You know it's weird, I've been in fandoms before. Lived through Glee and all it's ridiculousness when it came to the ship wars, the RPF, the writers literally making us a punchline in the last season.
I made some good friends in that fandom, most of whom I have sadly lost touch with, but I think it's the fandom that really got me writing. Sure I had written stuff for fandoms before, but very little I'm proud of. And some of my Glee stuff isn't great, I'll be the first to admit.
I didn't expect any other show would ever supplant Glee in my heart.
But then you came along. You silly little ghost show with your ghost himbos, your boppy music, your representation, my sweet babboo Jeremy Shada (this show has made him a real problem for me-hence the hashtag), and you captured my heart.
I wasn't expecting you to. Honestly it took me months to finally check you out, and I wasn't sure I would like you. But then... Now or Never started playing, and I was hooked.
So I watched the whole show over the course of two days, and then watched it again, just the music. And again, and again, and again.
I loved the story, the music. I loved the found family, the characters, and well, that goes triple for Reggie Peters.
And well, I got an idea for a fic, and was like, this'll be it for this fandom. It's not an amazing fic, but I had fun branching out into something new.
But then I got introduced to the Julie/Luke/Reggie ship, and well, the rest is history.
75 full fics, and 650 ficlet later...
Julie and the Phantoms what have you done to me?
I'll be truthful, I haven't done a full rewatch in a while, and there are some songs I skip when they come up. But I still love you with all my heart.
Thanks to this show I have become a better writer, and an incredibly productive one at that. I can't believe how much I have written for this fandom, and though I am taking a small break right now, I'm not done yet. I still have lots of ideas, and if my schedule allows, there may be another NaNoWriMo fic in me this year!
But more than that, this fandom has given me another set of friends, all of who I love dearly. Who have been there for me these past few years in ways you can't imagine. Who are some of the most creative, supportive, kind, beautiful people I've ever known.
So on the third anniversary of you first airing, despite the fact that you deserved more, deserved better, I wanted to thank you.
Sure, sometimes it hasn't been easy (the blacklist, the dying fandom, the fun of being into a rarepair or three) but this fandom has been so good for me, despite all that.
I love you JatP, so thank you for making my life better, fuller, and for just existing.
<3 Bethany

Hey Tabby! how's your day going/ if you're reading this at night—how was your day? i hope you had a good one!
i think I saw you mention once that you don't get to read as many fanfics as you'd like to?(sorry if I'm remembering wrong tho🥲) so when you do, do you have preferences in ships or maybe AUs?
but I mainly wanted to ask if there were certain rarepairs(idk if I'm using the right term here, I'm kindof a noob when it comes to fanfic slang🥲even tho I've been reading them for years now) that you enjoy?
I once read a Feyre×Gwyn fic that I really enjoyed even though I'd never thought of the ship before/come across it. and then there were these 2 fics that were Feyre×Lucien that I really liked (but couldn't find more of🥲), which ik might sound kinda weird after acomaf but I think I'd read it right after the first book?? so😶... there are a few more that I can't think of at the moment but do you also have ships that might seem a little odd at first but you personally think have potential or are just a guilty pleasure?
also, what's your favourite ship to read or write about in general? thoughts about TamSand?(sorry if this has already been asked before)
—🫀
Hello hello!!
My back and fingers are aching but I’m good for the most part! I think my cycle is coming up though which I’m not looking forward to—I’ve been having trouble sleep this last week :/
‘i think I saw you mention once that you don't get to read as many fanfics as you'd like to?(sorry if I'm remembering wrong tho🥲) so when you do, do you have preferences in ships or maybe AUs?’
That was me, yes 🫠
So on the rare occasions I have the time and inclination to read fanfics, it’ll usually be by someone I trust? If that makes sense 😭 If I’m reading to relax, I want to know the writing will be good and the story will be enjoyable, so I’ll stick to people I trust for that. But if I have time and I’m interested in having a nose about, I’ll usually be more interested in female characters rather than the male ones (since, well, you know👩‍❤️‍💋‍👩🤭) I’ll also read some female character x female character fics instead of x reader from time to time if I can’t find anything new, but I struggle to find those too 🫠
‘but I mainly wanted to ask if there were certain rarepairs(idk if I'm using the right term here, I'm kindof a noob when it comes to fanfic slang🥲even tho I've been reading them for years now) that you enjoy?’
Girl I’m with you there, I have no idea about proper tags 🫠 I only recently (this week) found out apparently there’s a happy ever after tag? So people I guess can settle into a fic knowing the ending?
Anyway, I guess gwynlain? If I came across a fic with that pair I’d probably give it a go, but it’s not often my interests go in that direction :) though I’ll stay away from male x male character fics since they just rub me the wrong way for personal reasons—as a general rule :)
‘there are a few more that I can't think of at the moment but do you also have ships that might seem a little odd at first but you personally think have potential or are just a guilty pleasure?’
Not really, I don’t think? I mean again, I quite like gwynlain but I don’t frequently or actively search for things under that tag :)
I do think it’s fun however when people have their own corner of chaos where you can find some odd ones (I would consider Amarantha x Lord Devlon and odd one—though I don’t know if that actually exists or not 🤭)
‘also, what's your favourite ship to read or write about in general?’
Favourite ship to read would probably be Feysand? And to write about it would probably also be Feysand :) pretty straightforward 🧡💛
‘thoughts about TamSand?(sorry if this has already been asked before)’
I enjoy seeing fanart of it, but I think I’m more on the side of it would be nice if they began mending relations so neither of them have to constantly deal with their resentment to one another since I think it takes a lot of energy to hate someone :)

year end fic thoughts
@elder-flower tagged me for this a few days ago, and I've been thinking about it ever since. Some of these were definitely easier to choose than others, but they all required some thought. I'm putting more detail about the fics than in the list I made earlier today, since this is more about my feelings and not at all about stats.
Rules: post the top 5 works you’re most proud of that you released in 2022 (not necessarily your most popular), your top 4 current WIPs that you’re excited to release in the new year, your top 3 biggest improvements in your writing over the past year, your top 2 resolutions (ways you wish to improve your writing/blog) for the new year, and your number 1 favorite line you’ve written this year!
Top 5 Works
make a moan upon the midnight hours: Epic of Gilgamesh (Enkidu/Gilgamesh) 3879 words
I think this is without doubt the best thing I wrote this year. I wrote it for the Chocolate Box exchange, which was my first exchange ever. When I saw it in my recipient's requests, I was intrigued and decided to gift them this rarepair instead of the much larger fandom we matched on. I found the story of Gilgamesh and Enkidu really compelling, especially where it dealt with why the gods made Enkidu and what it meant for him to become human. I think I captured some of the tension there and how it related to his relationship with Gilgamesh really well. It was also fun to write sex on a rooftop under the stars.
love sticks: Black Jewels (Daemon Sadi/Lucivar Yaslana) 1609 words
These two trauma boi murder machines are the first two characters that ever made me go "hmm, I'd like to read fan fiction about them" a few years before I even entered fandom, let alone start writing. I find them really compelling and have a lot of thoughts and feelings about them. I think this particular story really captures what I love most about their push/pull love/hate relationship. I also get into the complicated relationship they had with their father. I know that sounds like a lot for that word count, especially when you consider there's also smut, but it works really well and I'm proud of it. My favorite line of the year comes from it, too, so I'll talk more about it a little later in the post.
your mouth is poison: Teen Wolf (Chris Argent/Derek Hale) 3448 words
This is another fic that wouldn't exist if it wasn't for an exchange. Kink Lucky Dip in this case. I'd already read a ton of Sterek fics, although TW hadn't eaten my brain to quite the extent it has these days yet, but I'd never considered this pairing. I got really excited about the possibilities almost immediately, though. There's just something about the way these two men are so broken and exploring the dynamic between them. I also love it because it turns out sex pollen and accidental knotting are hella fun to write.
can't raise hell with a saint: Original Work 4059 words
This is the fic I wrote for the RelationShipping exchange. My recipient had both Identical Twins/The Sibling They Seduce and Camboy/The Brother Who Regularly Watches Their Stream in their request, so I decided to combine them. I love writing characters who feel guilty and are pining, and boy did I lean into that here. I'm very proud of my characterization in this one. Also there's smutty tattoo kink. With feelings.
you'd light me with all of your love: The Authority/DC Comics (Apollo/Midnighter) 2785 words
I wrote this for the Fic in a Box exchange. I ended up rereading the comics to do it, which was really rewarding. I hadn't read them in about 15 years, and there are so many things that hit much differently now that I'm more aware of queer culture and history than I was in my mid-twenties. It was my first time writing a canon couple, so I focused on the ways that being in an established relationship changes physical intimacy. It's mostly porn, but with lots of feelings.
Top 4 WIPs
All of these are Teen Wolf fics. See previous comments about it having eaten my brain.
won't you take me from this valley (Derek Hale/Stiles Stilinski)
I've already begun posting this one. It's a time travel/Regency AU combination that is turning out way less cracky than it was at the beginning. Stiles ends up back in 1812 and finds a Hale family who are wealthy and titled. He's pretty sure there are magical shenanigans going on with them being there. So far there's been the requisite "must buy new clothes" scene and a secret room in the library. I'm going to get more into what kind of magic was involved that allowed for that kind of time travel and memory modification, as well as developing the romance between Derek and Stiles. My beta said "prissy-Regency-pants Derek" is her new favorite Derek.
devil don't take a break (Derek Hale/Stiles Stilinski)
Another one that I'm posting as I go. I intended this one to be a cracky AU where Stiles is a demon. He's still a demon, but the fic somehow morphed into a season one rewrite where Scott is a really shitty friend. It's going to be the longest thing I have written by a loooong shot. Currently, my longest completed work is under 14k. This is already over 11k and I've only made it through the first two episodes. I'm enjoying writing it, though. I had no idea how much anger I had towards Scott. It's inspired multiple comments about people wanting to commit violence against him, so I'm definitely not the only one.
whiskey on the rocks & adderall (Derek Hale/Stiles Stilinski)
Writing this one has been a wild ride so far. It was just supposed to be a fun fic about Stiles going to college because that particular American Aquarium lyric fits him just as perfectly as it fits me. The college part is still there, but it has also changed a lot as I've written. Are you noticing a theme? Turns out Stiles is both some sort of fox shifter and magical enough to block someone from ever becoming an alpha. There's also an OC family that functions kind of like an alpha pack. They probably aren't going to be happy about him doing that to one of them. Features a sex scene where Derek rips apart a pillow with his teeth.
untitled fake SO for the holidays fic (Derek Hale/Peter Hale/Stiles Stilinski)
This started with a prompt from the @thirty-plus-fanfic discord but grew past the 500 word max for the winter event before I even started writing. It's a live Hale family no Hale fire story. There's so much mutual pining and obliviousness in this one, guys. I'm hoping to finish and post it really soon. All that's left is some relationship talk and the smut. Easy, right? (Wrong.)
Top 3 Improvements
This one has taken some thought. I don't actively try to improve my writing. It's something I do purely for fun and as a creative outlet, and I don't want to get too caught up in the process or that sort of thing. I largely write based on vibes. That's not to say I haven't improved, though. I definitely have, but pinning down how has been tough. Here goes.
embracing the way my brain makes random connections: The Battleship exchange was when I realized that my tendency to look at seemingly unrelated things and pull them together is a strength instead of something I needed to lowkey apologize for. If you're not familiar, the goal during the exchange is to put as many tags as possible from a specific list into one fic. You can have one tag per hundred words. I had a ton of fun trying to stick as close as possible to that number while fitting as many tags into a single fic as possible. It isn't how I want to write all of the time, but it's actually helped me relax more and just write what I want
more intentional writing: OK, I know I said that about vibes but I also think my characterization has improved this year because I spent more time sitting and thinking before I picked up my pen or opened my laptop. I spent more time thinking about character motivations, and I think that really shows in my writing.
editing/grammar: I've done a lot more editing this year than I used to and I've learned some grammar rules that I either forgot or was never taught. I'm still not perfect, but my stories definitely read more smoothly because of it.
Top 2 Resolutions
I don't do resolutions. They make my brain feel icky, so I'm going to skip this one.
Top 1 Favorite Line
"A bird started singing in a tree somewhere, a singularly inappropriate accompaniment to a conversation about the genocide of an entire race."
This line is from love sticks which I mentioned as one of my favorites from the year. One of the things I love about the Black Jewels books is the way she absolutely does not pull punches when it comes to family. This references a spell that Daemon & Lucivar's father put in place that would destroy Lucivar's entire race if he was killed. The threat worked because he had done it before when another son was killed. It's absolutely wild and over the top, but it fits the character so very well. This line happens in a moment of stillness and quiet between a fight and sex. I'm really proud of the way it works as a bridge between the two.
I'm going to tag a few people, but would love to hear what anyone else has done this year, too. Tagging @torrefaction-of-silver, @krabraccoon, @calenlily

For Sandwich Saturday/Sunday, what about Satan x MC x Barbatos? I think they'd get along well.
Dragging myself from my cave to post sandwich Saturday content, once again,,,
For a while those works got really long and it was originally supposed to be a kinda chill thing I could do while sitting down in one session and I'm trying to return to form here a bit so I can get 'em going again!! Let's!! Go!!! Make sandwiches!!
---
So!!! Satan and Barbatos~ I've seen the two shipped in a rarepair before and I think the chemistry is actually pretty good. They're both calm, intelligent, calculating individuals with excellent self-control... that does slip on occasion.
I'm inclined to agree that they'd get along well - they both are excellent at masking their emotions and are fairly good at reading others, too.
Satan the cat-lover and Barbatos the rat-hater, hahah~ I bet Satan could absolutely convince Barbatos to keep a cat (or two.. or three or four or - listen, the Demon King's Castle has space, doesn't it? and you don't want there to be any rats, right Barbatos?) so now you all have a pet (collection) together, too!
Satan picks them off the street, Barbatos feeds them (when you and Satan don't come over), and you get to name them. You'll be spending a lot of time at the Castle, between dates and coming over to play with them~
Diavolo's probably pleased about that - there's a Devilgram in which he brings home a wounded creature as a pet - and Barbatos's own willpower combined with Lucifer's disapproving huffs is probably the only thing keeping the Castle from becoming a cat shelter.
They both have like, specific hobbies they're passionate about and Satan is neither a stranger to baking nor unwilling to get into it, actually, so he'd totally join in on dates with you and Barbatos helping out in the kitchen.
Barbatos loves cooking, Satan loves learning new things, and both of them love spending time with you. Expect to be the absolute envy of Beel's foodie existence with all the recipes they try out on you~
Barbatos will absolutely cook or pack a lunch for a date you have with Satan, too. And it will be delicious.
They're both extremely considerate, to the point of almost constantly putting your desires above theirs (Barbatos more so than Satan, but you're more vigilant about it with Barbatos, because of his job), and they do it because they quite enjoy it.
You'll never have to give either of them the silent treatment (were you incline to do so in the first place) - they can both sense your mood and pretty much always figure out what they've done wrong without being explicitly told.
Barbatos WILL make you explicitly tell him, though, or at least say it out loud. Satan would probably tell you himself what he thinks you're mad about.
They 100% stay out of one another's way for things like this - even willing to cancel plans if the other one needs extra time to make things up with you. Quid pro quo. Neither Satan nor Barbatos sees the point in making life harder for one another.
Barbatos is much older than Satan, though, and more learned in several ways - more accustomed to serving and attuning himself to the needs of others.
If Satan ever approaches him for advice or insight, he'll be happy to provide - it'll all be for your benefit, after all - including certain... other kinds of things...
[Maybe I'll do a nsfw part II for this someday - I already wanna do one for Dia/MC/Satan - but right now I am unfortunately just Not Feeling It. Feel free to send it in as a request if you'd like, I'll get to it when I have some horny juice to spare~]

in which I get progressively angrier at the various tropes of atla fandom misogyny
tbh I think it would serve all of us to have a larger conversation about the specific ways misogyny manifests in this fandom, because I’ve seen a lot of people who characterize themselves as feminists, many of whom are women themselves, discuss the female characters of atla/lok in misogynistic ways, and people don’t talk about it enough.
disclaimer before I start: I’m not a woman, I’m an afab nonbinary person who is semi-closeted and thus often read as a woman. I’m speaking to things that I’ve seen that have made me uncomfy, but if any women (esp women existing along other axes of oppression, e.g. trans women, women of color, disabled women, etc) want to add onto this post, please do!
“This female character is a total badass but I’m not even a little bit interested in exploring her as a human being.”
I’ve seen a lot of people say of various female characters in atla/lok, “I love her! She’s such a badass!” now, this statement on its own isn’t misogynistic, but it represents a pretty pervasive form of misogyny that I’ve seen leveled in large part toward the canon female love interests of one or both of the members of a popular gay ship (*cough* zukka *cough*) I’m going to use Suki as an example of this because I see it with her most often, but it can honestly be applied to nearly every female character in atla/lok. Basically, people will say that they stan Suki, but when it comes time to engage with her as an actual character, they refuse to do it. I’ve seen meta after meta about Zuko’s redemption arc, but I so rarely see people engage with Suki on any level beyond “look at this cool fight scene!” and yeah, I love a cool Suki fight scene as much as anybody else, but I’m also interested in meta and headcanons and fics about who she is as a person, when she isn’t an accessory to Sokka’s development or doing something cool. of course, the material for this kind of engagement with Suki is scant considering she doesn’t have a canon backstory (yet) (don’t let me down Faith Erin Hicks counting on you girl) but with the way I’ve seen people in this fandom expand upon canon to flesh out male characters, I know y’all have it in you to do more with Suki, and with all the female characters, than you currently do. frankly, the most engagement I’ve seen with Suki in mainstream fandom is justifying either zukki (which again, is characterizing her in relation to male characters, one of whom she barely interacts with in canon) or one of the Suki wlw pairings. which brings me to--
“I conveniently ship this female character whose canon love interest is one of the members of my favorite non-canon ship with another female character! gay rights!”
now, I will admit, two of my favorite atla ships are yueki and mailee, and so I totally understand being interested in these characters’ dynamics, even if, as is the case with yueki, they’ve never interacted canonically. however, it becomes a problem for me when these ships are always in the background of a zukka fic. at some point, it becomes obvious that you like this ship because it gets either Zuko or Sokka’s female love interests out of the way, not because you actually think the characters would mesh well together. It’s bad form to dislike a female character because she gets in the way of your gay ship, so instead, you find another girl to pair her off with and call it a day. to be clear, I’m not saying that everybody who ships either mailee or yueki (or tysuki or maisuki or yumai or whatever other wlw rarepair involving Zuko or Sokka’s canon love interests) is nefariously trying to sideline a female character while acting publicly as if she’s is one of their faves--far from it--but it is noteworthy to me how difficult it is to find content that centers wlw ships, while it’s incredibly easy to find content that centers zukka in which mailee and/or yueki plays a background role.
also, notice how little traction wlw Katara ships gain in this fandom. when’s the last time you saw yuetara on your dash? there’s no reason for wlw Katara ships to gain traction in a fandom that is so focused on Zuko and Sokka getting together, bc she doesn’t present an immediate obstacle to that goal (at least, not an obstacle that can be overcome by pairing her up with a woman). if you are primarily interested in Zuko and Sokka’s relationship, and your queer readings of other female characters are motivated by a desire to get them out of the way for zukka, then Katara’s canon m/f relationship isn’t a threat to you, and thus, there’s no reason to read her as potentially queer. Or even, really, to think about her at all.
“Katara’s here but she’s not actually going to do anything, because deep down, I’m not interested in her as a person.”
the show has an enormous amount of textual evidence to support the claim that Sokka and Katara are integral parts of each other’s lives. so, she typically makes some kind of appearance in zukka content. sometimes, her presence in the story is as an actual character with layers and nuance, someone whom Sokka cares about and who cares about Sokka in return, but also has her own life and goals outside of her brother (or other male characters, for that matter.) sometimes, however, she’s just there because halfway through writing the author remembered that Sokka actually has a sister who’s a huge part of the show they’re writing fanfiction for, and then they proceed to show her having a meetcute with Aang or helping Sokka through an emotional problem, without expressing wants or desires outside of those characters. I’m honestly really surprised that I haven’t seen more people calling out the fact that so much of Katara’s personality in fanon revolves around her connections to men? she’s Aang’s girlfriend, she’s Sokka’s sister, she’s Zuko’s bestie. never mind that in canon she spends an enormous amount of time fighting against (anachronistic, Westernized) sexism to establish herself as a person in her own right, outside of these connections. and that in canon she has such interesting complex relationships with other female characters (e.g. Toph, Kanna, Hama, Korra if you want to write lok content) or that there are a plethora of characters with whom she could have interesting relationships with in fanon (Mai, Suki, Ty Lee, Yue, Smellerbee, and if you want to write lok content, Kya II, Lin, Asami, Senna, etc). to me, the lack of fandom material exploring Katara’s relationships with other women or with herself speak to a profound indifference to Katara as a character. I’m not saying you have to like Katara or include her in everything you write, but I am asking you to consider why you don’t find her interesting outside of her relationships with men.
“I hate Katara because she talks about her mother dying too often.”
this is something I’ve seen addressed by people far more qualified than I to address it, but I want to mention it here in part because when I asked people which fandom tropes they wanted me to talk about, this came up often, but also because I find it really disgusting that this is a thing that needs to be addressed at all. Y’all see a little girl who watched her mother be killed by the forces of an imperialist nation and say that she talks about it too much??? That is a formational, foundational event in a child’s life. Of course she’s going to talk about it. I’ve seen people say that she doesn’t talk about it that often, or that she only talks about it to connect with other victims of fn imperialism e.g. Jet and Haru, but frankly, she could speak about it every episode for no plot-significant reason whatsoever and I would still be angry to see people say she talks about it too much. And before you even bring up the Sokka comparison, people deal with grief in different ways. Sokka  repressed a lot of his grief/channeled it into being the “man” of his village because he knew that they would come for Katara next if he gave them the opportunity. he probably would talk about his mother more if a) he didn’t feel massive guilt at not being able to remember what she looked like, and b) he was allowed to be a child processing the loss of his mother instead of having to become a tiny adult when Hakoda had to leave to help fight the fn. And this gets into an intersection with fandom racism, in that white fans (esp white American fans) are incapable of relating to the structural trauma that both Sokka and Katara experience and thus can’t see the ways in which structural trauma colors every single aspect of both of their characters, leading them to flatten nuance and to have some really bad takes. And you know what, speaking of bad fandom takes--
“Shitting on Mai because she gets in the way of my favorite Zuko ship is actually totally okay because she’s ~abusive~”
y’all WHAT.
ok listen, I get not liking maiko. I didn’t like it when I first got into fandom, and later I realized that while bryke cannot write romance to save their lives, fans who like maiko sure can, so I changed my tune. but if you still don’t like it, that’s fine. no skin off my back.
what IS skin off my back is taking instances in which Mai had justified anger toward Zuko, and turning it into “Mai abused Zuko.” do you not realize how ridiculous you sound? this is another thing where I get so angry about it that I don’t know how useful my analysis is actually going to be, but I’ll do my best. numerous people have noted how analysis of Mai and Zuko’s breakup in “The Beach” or Mai being justifiably angry with him at Boiling Rock or her asking for FUCKING FRUIT in “Nightmares and Daydreams” that says that all of these events were her trying to gain control over him is....ahhh...lacking in reading comprehension, but I’d like to go a step further and talk about why y’all are so intent on taking down a girl who doesn’t show emotion in normative ways. obviously, there’s a “Zuko can do no wrong” aspect to Mai criticism (which is super weird considering how his whole arc is about how he can do lots of wrong and he has to atone for the wrong that he’s done--but that’s a separate post.) But I also see slandering Mai for not expressing her emotions normatively and not putting up with Zuko’s shit and slandering Katara for “talking about her mother too often” as two sides of the same coin. In both cases, a female character expresses emotions that make you, the viewer, uncomfortable, and so instead of attempting to understand where those emotions may have come from and why they might be manifesting the way they are, y’all just throw the whole character away. this is another instance of people in the fandom being fundamentally disinterested in engaging with the female characters of atla in a real way, except instead of shallowly “stanning” Mai, y’all hate her. so we get to this point where female characters are flattened into one of two things: perfect queens who can do no wrong, or bitches. and that’s not who they are. that’s not who anyone is. but while we as a fandom are pretty good at understanding b1 Zuko’s actions as layered and multifaceted even though he’s essentially an asshole then, few are willing to lend the same grace to any female character, least of all Mai.
and what’s funny is sometimes this trope will intersect with “I conveniently ship this female character whose canon love interest is one of the members of my favorite non-canon ship with another female character! gay rights!”, so you’ll have someone actively calling Mai toxic/problematic/abusive, and at the same time ship her with Ty Lee? make it make sense! but then again, maybe that’s happening because y’all are fundamentally disinterested in Ty Lee as a character too.
“I love Ty Lee so much that I’m going to treat her like an infantilized hypersexual airhead!”
there are so many things happening in y’alls characterization of Ty Lee that I struggled to synthesize it into one quippy section header. on one hand, you have the hypersexualization, and on the other hand, you have the infantilization, which just makes the hypersexualization that much worse.
(of course, sexualizing or hypersexualizing ANY atla character is really not the move, considering that these are child characters in a children’s show, but then again, that’s a separate post.)
now, I understand how, from a very, very surface reading of the text, you could come to the conclusion that Ty Lee is an uncomplicated bimbo. if you grew up on Western media the way I did, you’ll know that Ty Lee has a lot of the character traits we associate with bimbos: the form-fitting pink crop top, the general conventional attractiveness, the ditzy dialogue. but if you think about it for more than three seconds, you’ll understand that Ty Lee has spent her whole life walking a tightrope, trying to please Azula and the rest of the royal family while also staying true to herself. Ty Lee and Azula’s relationship is a really complex and interesting topic that I don’t really have time to explore at the moment given how long this post is, but I’d argue that Ty Lee’s constant, vocal  adulation is at least partially a product of learning to survive at court at an early age. Like Mai, she has been forced to regulate her emotions as a member of fn nobility, but unlike Mai, she also has six sisters who look exactly like her, so she has a motivation to be more peppy and more affectionate to stand out.
fandom does not do the work to understand Ty Lee. as is a theme with this post, fandom is actively disinterested in investigating female characters beyond a very surface level reading of them. Thus, fandom takes Ty Lee’s surface level qualities--her love of the color pink, her revealing standard outfit, and the fact that once she found a boy attractive and also once a lot of boys found her attractive--and they stretch this into “Ty Lee is basically Karen Smith from Mean Girls.” thus, Ty Lee is painted as a bimbo, or more specifically, as not smart, uncritically adoring of Azula (did y’all forget all the non-zukka bits of Boiling Rock?), and attractive to the point of hypersexualization. I saw somebody make a post that was like “I wish mailee was more popular but I’m also glad it isn’t because otherwise people would write it as Mai having to put up with her dumb gf” and honestly I have to agree!! this is one instance in which I’m glad that fandom doesn’t discuss one of my favorite characters that often because I hate the fanon interpretation of Ty Lee, I think it’s rooted in misogyny (particularly misogyny against East Asian women, which often takes the form of fetishizing them and viewing them only through a Western white male gaze)
(side note: here at army-of-mai-lovers, we stan bimbos. bimbos are fucking awesome. I personally don’t read Ty Lee as a bimbo, but if that’s you, that’s fucking awesome. keep doing what you’re doing, queen <3 or king or monarch, it’s 2021, anyone can be a bimbo, bitches <3)
“Toph can and will destroy everyone here with her bare hands because she’s a meathead who likes to murder people and that’s it!”
Toph is, and always has been, one of my favorite ATLA characters. My very first fic in fandom was about her, and she appears prominently in a lot of my other work as well. One thing that I am always struck by with Toph is how big a heart she has. She’s independent, yes, snarky, yes, but she cares about people--even the family that forced her to make herself smaller because they didn’t believe that their blind daughter could be powerful and strong. Her storyline is powerful and emotionally resonant, her bending is cool precisely because it’s based in a “wait and listen” approach instead of just smashing things indiscriminately, she’s great disabled rep, and overall one of the best characters in the show.
And in fandom, she gets flattened into “snarky murder child.”
So where does this come from? Well, as we all know, Toph was originally conceived of as a male character, and retained a lot of androgyny (or as the kids call it, Gender) when she was rewritten as a female character. There are a lot of cultural ideas about androgynous/butch women being violent, and people in fandom seem to connect that larger cultural narrative with some of Toph’s more violent moments in the show to create the meathead murder child trope, erasing her canon emotionality, softness, heart, and femininity in the process.
This is not to say that you shouldn’t write or characterize Toph as being violent or snarky at all ever, because yeah, Toph definitely did do Earth Rumbles a lot before joining the gaang, and yeah, Toph is definitely a sarcastic person who makes fun of her friends a lot. What I am saying is that people take these traits, sans the emotional logic, marry them to their conception of androgynous/butch women as violent/unemotional/uncaring, and thus create a caricature of Toph that is not at all up to snuff. When I see Toph as a side character in a fic (because yeah, Toph never gets to be a main character, because why would a fandom obsessed with one male character in particular ever make Toph a protagonist in her own right?) she’s making fun of people, killing people, pranking people, etc, etc. She’s never talking to people about her emotions, or palling around with her found family, or showing that she cares about her friends. Everything about her relationship with her parents, her disability, her relationship to Gender, and her love of her friends is shoved aside to focus on a version of Toph that is mean and uncaring because people have gotten it into their heads that androgynous/butch women are mean and uncaring.
again, we see a female character who does not emote normatively or in a way that makes you, the viewer, comfortable, and so you warp her character until she’s completely unrecognizable and flat. and for what?
Azula
no, I didn’t come up with a snappy name for this section, mainly because fanon interpretations of Azula and my own feelings toward the character are...complicated. I know there were some people who wanted me to write about Azula and the intersection of misogyny and ableism in fanon interpretations of her character, but I don’t think I can deliver on that because I personally am in a period of transition with how I see Azula. that is to say, while I still like her and believe that she can be redeemed, there is a lot of merit to disliking her. the whole point of this post is that the female characters of ATLA are complex people whom the fandom flattens into stereotypes that don’t hold up to scrutiny, or dislike for reasons that don’t make sense. Azula, however, is a different case. the rise of Azula defenders and Azula stans has led to this sentiment that Azula is a 14 y/o abuse victim who shouldn’t be held accountable for her actions. it seems to me that people are reacting to a long, horrible legacy of male ATLA fans armchair diagnosing Azula with various personality disorders (and suggesting that people with those personality disorders are inherently monstrous and unlovable which ahhhh....yikes) and then saying that those personality disorders make her unlovable, which is quite obviously bad. and hey, I get loving a character that everyone else hates and maybe getting so swept up in that love that you forget that your fave is complicated and has made some unsavory choices. it sucks that fanon takes these well-written, complex villains/antiheroes and turns them into monsters with no critical thought whatsoever. but the attitude among Azula stans that her redemption shouldn’t be hard, that her being a child excuses all of the bad things that she’s done, that she is owed redemption....all of that rubs me the wrong way. I might make another post about this in the future that discusses this in more depth, but as it stands now: while I understand that there is a legacy of misogynistic, ableist, unnuanced takes on Azula, the backlash to that does not take into account the people she hurt or the fact that in ATLA she does not make the choice to pursue redemption. and yes, Zuko had help in making that choice that Azula didn’t, and yes, Azula is a victim of abuse, but in a show about children who have gone through untold horrors and still work to better the lives of the people around them, that is not enough for me to uncritically stan her.
Conclusion
misogyny in this fandom runs rampant. while there are some tropes of fandom misogyny that are well-documented and have been debunked numerous times, there are other, subtler forms of misogyny that as far as I know have gone completely unchecked.
what I find so interesting about misogyny in atla fandom is that it’s clear that it’s perpetrated by people who are aware of fandom misogyny who are actively trying not to be misogynistic. when I first joined atla fandom last summer, memes about how zukka fandom was better than every other fandom because they didn’t hate the female characters who got in the way of their gay ship were extremely prevalent, and there was this sense that *this* fandom was going to model respectful, fun, feminist online fandom. not all of the topes I’ve outlined are exclusive to or even largely utilized in zukka fandom, but a lot of them are. I’ve been in and out of fandom since I was eleven years old, and most of the fandom spaces I’ve been in have been majority-female, and all of them have been incredibly misogynistic. and I always want to know why. why, in these communities created in large part by women, in large part for women, does misogyny run wild? what I realize now is that there’s never going to be a one-size fits all answer to that question. what’s true for 1D fandom on Wattpad in 2012 is absolutely not true for atla fandom on tumblr in 2021. the answers that I’ve cobbled together for previous fandoms don’t work here.
so, why is atla fandom like this? why did the dream of a feminist fandom almost entirely focused on the romantic relationship between two male characters fall apart? honestly, I think the notion that zukka fandom ever was this way was horrifically ignorant to begin with. from my very first moment in the fandom, I was seeing racism, widespread sexualization of minors, and yes, misogyny. these aspects of the fandom weren’t talked about as much as the crocverse or other, much more fun aspects. further, atla (specifically zukka) fandom misogyny often doesn’t look like the fandom misogyny we’ve become familiar with from like, Sherlock fandom or what have you. for the most part, people don’t actively hate Suki, they just “stan” without actually caring about her. they hate Mai because they believe in treating male victims of abuse equally. they’re not characterizing Toph poorly, they’re writing her as a “strong woman.” in short, people are misogynistic, and then invoke a shallow, incomplete interpretation of feminist theory to shield themselves from accusations of misogyny. it’s not unlike the way some people will invoke a shallow, incomplete interpretation of critical race theory to shield themselves from accusations of racism, or how they’ll talk about “freedom of speech” and “the suppression of women’s sexuality” to justify sexualizing minors. the performance of feminism and antiracism is what’s important, not the actual practice.
if you’ve made it this far, first off, hi, thanks so much for reading, I know this was a lot. second, I would seriously encourage you to be aware of these fandom tropes and to call them out when you see them. elevate the voices of fans who do the work of bringing the female characters of atla to life. invest in the wlw ships in this fandom. drop a kudos and a comment on a rangshi fic (please, drop a kudos and a comment on a rangshi fic). read some yuetara. let’s all be honest about where we are now, and try to do better in the future. I believe in us.
