It was 2 o'clock in the morning, and Felix, Minho, Jeongin, and Seungmin were busy getting ready for today's live show. They did the usuals, take a shower, eat a little something to energize themselves, brush their teeth, and blow dry their hair, it's been their routine for almost a month since they have been practicing for their performance and made a new choreography for Christmas EveL.
"Hyung, where did you put the vitamins?" Felix asked as he searched the cupboards. Minho finally had the time yesterday to rearrange the kitchen since it didn't have a system which was taking them more time to roam around than be done in a minute.
"In the cupboard above the coffee maker. Hurry up, the van is here!" Minho answered from the living room.
Felix quickly went to the cupboard and popped 2 pills in his mouth, one for vitamin C and one is B-complex..or that's what he thought it was. He didn't bother to look at the bottles because the caplet looked so much like their B-complex caplet and what could go wrong if he drank the wrong one anyways? Felix was too sleepy to care and all the bottles they put in the kitchen were only food supplements and vitamins so it wasn't really a big deal, he could've popped in Seungmin's ginseng supplement or the multivitamins that Jeongin was taking. All the medicine was separated into the bathroom's first aid kit so it's safe.
"Yongbok-ah! Let's go!" He heard Minho yell from the door.
"Coming!" Felix said and just left the bottle on the kitchen counter, he'll just put it back after work, he thought to himself.
Tumblr media
They arrived at the venue and everyone was busy preparing for the show. You were assigned to do Felix's makeup and assist with his costume for today. Felix sits down on the makeup chair all sleepy.
"Good morning, Mr. Sleepyhead." You chuckled as you proceeded to comb his hair.
"Oh, hey. Good morning y/n. I thought you were doing Hyunjin's today." He replied as he looked at himself in the mirror.
"Yerin and I were swapped last minute. She's on training with Ms. Cha and she's doing Hyunjin's makeup today." You explained and Felix nodded. His hair was still damp so you plugged in the hair dryer and dried his hair.
"Sorry, I woke up kind of late so I didn't have time to blow dry properly." He apologized and yawned.
"No worries, cutie." You smiled reassuringly knowing that Felix was very tired from yesterday's rehearsals and now, they'll be having one final rehearsal before the actual show.
You have been the boys' hair and makeup artist for 2 years already and you have shared many wonderful memories with the team and them. You were close to all the members, especially Changbin, Hyunjin, and Felix to the point where you even got invited to have coffee with them or go out with them on some days off and still kept that professional line but as the days went by, you hung out a lot with Felix the most considering your mutual obsession with games and baking. You got to know him better to the point that you consider each other close friends with nicknames on eachother's contacts, going grocery shopping, walking down parks, baking whatever you guys think of at your place, playing games late at night on discord, and have heart to heart talks.
When you finished drying Felix's hair, you received a text message from Junsuk, the stylist that was assigned to Felix, that he's had an emergency and cannot come in for the day but thankfully, he told you he left all of Felix's undergarments and accessories in one suitcase and the costume inside a blue clothes bag. You explained it to Felix and thankfully, he understood.
"Alright, I need you dressed up first." You said as you handed him the hanger with his costume. He was going to wear a black leather jacket, white inner shirt, and red & black checkered pants today and you would be lying if you weren't excited to see him in that outfit again the same as yesterday's rehearsals, especially when he'd wear that heart choker.
You set up your station and laid all the makeup, brushes, and everything important on the table for easy access while waiting for Felix to get dressed. A few moments later, he went back to you and quickly sat on the chair, with a hint of discomfort on his face.
"You okay? Are the pants too tight?" You asked him as he was squirming a little bit, adjusting the hem and belt of his pants. "Did you successfully put on that complicated belt?"
"No, it's good and yes, I managed to secure the belt." He said and settled down so you could style his hair. Felix was playing a game on his phone while you styled his hair, dry rehearsals were moved to a later time due to unforeseen circumstances so everyone had time to chill in the dressing room. Other members who were done with costumes and hair were either eating, napping, or playing games. Makeup would be put on later at least 1-2 hours before the show.
"Hey uh, y/n? Is my hair done already?" Felix asked and you notice him squeeze his thighs a bit.
"Yes. All done." You answered and put down the hair spray and put a clip on the middle part of his bangs to make sure his hair will be well parted. You went in front of Felix to do his skincare before putting on makeup. "Let me just prep your skin and then you can go rest for a bit."
Felix nodded. You leveled your face to his and saw that his face was turning into a light shade of pink and he was sweating a little even though the AC was on full blast.
"Woah, are you okay? You feeling sick?" You asked him with a worried tone and felt his forehead. He wasn't having a fever even though his cheeks were now completely flushed. Felix shook his head.
"Can I..can I go change my pants while I..rest?" Felix sighed. You thought maybe the pants were really that tight and he was just pretending earlier so you checked it only to see a full-on erection. Felix scratched the armrest, and you could see he was uncomfortable and that must be painful.
"Sure," you said and you handed him his sweatpants. "Um..sorry I can't help but notice but can you stand?" You whispered to him. He looked at you with puppy dog eyes, afraid and embarrassed with his situation of having a full visible erection this early in the morning with no triggers. Felix didn't know what was happening to his body, all he feels is that he is hot, horny, and aching for release as soon as possible.
"I'm s-sorry. I don't know what's happening to me." Felix apologized and tried to cover his hard on with the sweatpants you handed him.
"It's okay. Probably just a delayed morning wood, yeah?" You said trying to reassure him it wasn't making you uncomfortable. He nodded and you helped him stand up. He winced when he did, the tight restraints of the pants probably squeezing him painfully tight. You didn't want to think of it as hot that you can finally see the outline of Felix's dick, but you couldn't help it. With the time you spent with Felix, you couldn't help but get a little crush on this remarkable man.
Hyunjin approached Felix with the skz-talker camera but then quickly shut it off when he noticed something wasn't right. "You okay, Lix?" Hyunjin asked as he saw you escorting Felix who can barely walk.
"He has a stomachache. Just tell them he went to the bathroom when someone asks okay?" You answered for Felix since you noticed he couldn't form words anymore. Hyunjin nodded.
"I'll ask someone to fetch medicine for you, okay Lixie-ah?" Hyunjin said.
You assisted him to the PWD bathroom so he could have his privacy and he went inside. You promised you'd wait for him outside with a small towel and wet wipes in your bag to clean up with. A few minutes in, Felix peeked his head out and called you.
"I'm sorry to ask you but I can't seem to unbuckle this stupid belt." Felix shyly asked. He had a complicated belt on, easy to put on but difficult to remove and you didn't know why Junsuk insisted on this. You looked down the hallway to see if anyone was around and good thing it was empty and the restroom was at the far end of the hallway.
You went inside and locked the door just in case. Felix held himself on the rails, panting and biting his lip. You proceeded to unbuckle his complex belt, removing first that weird out-of-place lock then the three buttons that were holding the excess so it won't dangle while dancing. You accidentally brushed on his dick which made him quiver. He was so needy and desperate for touch and your heart couldn't handle him suffering like that, you wanted to offer a helping hand. You mustered your courage when you finally removed the belt and hung it on the rail.
"D-do you want some help with uh, with this?" You asked him.
His eyes quickly dart to you with a flustered look. He blinked and nodded, too horny to say no but still a little shy to say yes.
"Umm...If it's okay with you." He said, avoiding your gaze.
"Yeah, it's okay with me." You gave him a reassuring smile and proceeded to unbutton his pants. He wiggled from the tight restraints and his cock sprung free, all flushed and leaking with precum.
"Fuck." Felix whimpered when you wrapped your hand around his thick member. You've only imagined this as one of your guilty pleasures but now you finally got to see it in all its glory. You stroked him a little before you spit on his cock. You clearly saw it twitch and his eyes were glued on you, watching you stroke his wet cock deliciously.
Felix tightened his grip on the rails, your hand just felt so good stroking his cock that he involuntary bucked his hips to meet with your strokes. Your face was close to Felix's and you swear you could feel your wetness pooling between your thighs.
"Feel good?" You asked him and he nodded fervently.
"Yes, fuck yes!" Felix moaned. You didn't expect him to be loud, of course you liked hearing him moan it was music to your ears but someone else might hear.
"Sshh..someone might hear you." You whisper in his ear and Felix felt shivers down his spine when you grazed his earlobe. You cover his mouth and stared at him while you quickened the pace. Up, down, up, down, oh how dumbed down he was watching your hand move on his dick and hearing lewd sounds coming from it. He wondered what it would feel with your pretty mouth wrapped around it but he'll take what he can get right now. His cock twitched imagining things and you knew he was close. As much as you wanted to stay like this with him and deny him his release until he begs for it, you had a schedule to keep. Maybe you'll get another opportunity.
Squelching, muffled moans, and shaky breaths were all you could hear in the restroom. Felix was bucking his hips to meet your strokes. His whimpers and moans became louder and you could feel him drooling over your hand without thought, you removed your hand from his mouth to hear him, not caring about anything anymore but him. You just stared at him in awe of having this gorgeous man a slave to your touch.
"Gonna cum!" He huffed.
"Alright, cum for me now. That's it.." You encouraged him and that sent him over the edge. Felix let out the deepest, sexiest groan you have ever heard as his muscles tightened, eyes screwed shut, dick twitching, and spilling his cum all over your hand and on the floor. You wrapped your free arm around his waist to hold him up as his knees weakened. You guided him on a plastic chair inside the bathroom before you went to clean yourself up then the floor. There was so much cum, he probably hadn't released for weeks.
"T-thanks y/n.." Felix said when he finally catches his breath.
"Anytime, Lix." You winked, got the small towel and wipes from your bag, and handed it to him. "Now, go get cleaned up and I'll wait for you in the dressing room okay?" You said and Felix nodded.
"This isn't going to change anything between us, right?" Felix asked, worried that these events would change the relationship you two had.
"It would or it won't." You answered which made Felix more worried but you reassured him instead, saying what really was going through your mind without shame. "What I mean is, we could do this again sometimes or we could just pretend it didn't happen." You shrugged acting all cool about it when you really want Felix to say he wanted to do this again too.
"I would..love to do this again..with you." He shyly said and that made your heart flutter.
"Then things between us are going to change. For the better though." You giggled and kissed his cheek.
You went back to the dressing room and waited for Felix there. Hyunjin handed you the medicine he got for Felix. He was worried but you told him that Felix will be alright and he sighed in relief. You loved how the members worry and care for each other.
Felix came back to the dressing room and approached you immediately telling you a slight little problem.
"It's back." Felix whispered. He was already wearing loose sweatpants so it wasn't showing but you could feel that he was uncomfortable.
"Again? But you just.." You trailed off.
"I don't know what's happening to me..I'm not even thinking of something lewd." Felix said, a little panicked.
"Well, your dry rehearsals start in an hour. We don't have the time.." You said, already rushing him to sit down on the chair to do his skin prep and makeup.
"It's fine. It doesn't hurt the way it did earlier. I can manage but the..bulge." He said. He was going to wear those skinny pants back and he was worried it would be visible for the whole world to see.
You thought of an idea to alter his costume at the last minute. You called your colleague to fetch the skirt that Hyunjin rejected to wear and made Felix wear it instead to cover what he needs to be covered.
"Let's just deal with it after the show, yeah?" You winked and that made Felix bite his lip in anticipation.
Tumblr media
After the show ended, you found yourself pinned to the wall of your apartment by Felix, kissing you hungrily like a starved wolf. No more boundaries, he said. You kept on kissing and groping each other, discarding your clothes one by one as you made your way to your bedroom with only your underwear now. You both fell onto the bed and you were above him when he quickly flipped the two of you so that he was on top. His hard cock pressed onto your thighs as his hand ripped the thin fabric covering your core.
"I'll buy you lots of new ones tomorrow," Felix growled and bit your neck.
The needy and whiny Felix earlier was gone. His eyes were darker than usual. Your lips were now swollen from the kissing and biting since the elevator but you didn't mind at all, you were both craving each other. His fingers dipped into your soaking wet core and rubbed your clit in circles.
"Fuck yes!" You moaned and tangled your fingers in his hair.
"Already so wet for me. Shit." He moaned. "Gonna take good care of you tonight."
He kissed you one last time before he latched his lips on your nipple. He circled his tongue around it until it was hard then proceeded to the other one. He trailed kisses down to your stomach until he reached your core. He held the back of your thighs, pushed them up, and aggressively sucked your sensitive clit which made you arch your back. He licked and sucked on every good spot, his saliva running down his chin, so messy, so hot. He inserted a finger as he flicked your clit with his tongue. It felt so good that you felt that familiar knot in your stomach already.
"Gonna..cum," you moaned as you grabbed his hair.
"Gonna cum for me, yeah?" Felix cooed as he quickened his pace in finger fucking you and sucking your clit which was driving you insane. You arched your back as you dissolved into pleasure, your walls spasming and contracting on Felix's finger. After you came down from your high, you pulled Felix up to see the mess you'd made on his face and God was it such a luscious sight. He wiped his mouth with the back of his hand before you pushed him down the bed, straddled and kissed him, tasting yourself on his mouth. You trailed kisses down his neck, to his chest, and abs, then down to the hem of his boxers.
"I've been dying to put this cock in my mouth earlier." You groaned and removed his boxers.
"And I've been dying to know what that pretty little mouth feels like." Felix bit his lip as your lips hovered over the tip of his already leaking cock.
He hissed when you licked the tip, small, kitten licks enough to make him go insane. He threw his head back and closed his eyes as he felt your warm mouth envelope his cock. So warm, so wet, oh it felt better than what he had imagined. You hollowed your cheeks and took all of him in your mouth. Giving him occasional deep throats that made you gag with how big he is. You swirled your tongue as you moved your head up and down his thick cock and that was it for him, he moaned loudly and unconsciously bucked his hips. You popped his dick out of your mouth to stare at his blissful face.
"Good?" You asked him with a smirk.
"Fuck, it's better than what I've imagined." He smiled. "C'mere."
He pulled you up to kiss him, and you positioned your aching, dripping cunt over the tip of his cock and slowly sank down on his cock. He filled you up nice and good. You moved slowly, adjusting to his girth.
"What got you so riled up today, hm?" You asked him as you slowly moved up and down his cock, his hands squeezing your waist and his lips parted.
"I really don't know, and you being all pretty and sexy earlier was not helping me at all." He said as he looked at you with pure lust. He planted his feet on the bed and started pounding into you hard and deep hitting that one delightful spot inside of you which made you clench around his cock.
"Yes, Felix, right there! Oh god!" You moaned.
"So tight.." Felix huffed before he flipped you over, your back now pressed on the soft mattress, his hands holding himself up as he pounded into you with a brutal pace, chasing his release. He ran his thumb over your lips and pushed it into your mouth which you lewdly sucked on to, covering it with spit then ran his wet thumb over your clit and rubbed it fast.
"fuck 'm cumming again.." You let out a breathy moan as your walls tightened around his cock when you were reaching your peak and it all came crashing down, feeling every bit of pleasure radiate on your entire body as you came hard for the second time.
"Gonna cum too.." Felix groaned.
"Go on, fill me up, nice and good," you purred and reached for his face to kiss him and that was enough to send Felix over the edge, and with one last powerful thrust, he came, spilling his hot cum inside you.
After a few minutes or so, Felix asked for another round, then another until you both finally tapped out. Lying on the bed, all sweaty, messy, and out of breath.
"Wow." He sighed.
"How many years of pent-up frustration was that?" You laughed.
"I have no fucking idea." He chuckled, not believing in the slightest he has that kind of stamina in bed. His phone rang and it was Minho.
"Hyung, what's up?" Felix answered.
Did you take my sex enhancement pills?
"Excuse me, what enhancement?! I only took my vitamin c and b-complex. Why do you have sex enhancement pills?!"
None of your business and Seungmin and Innie didn't take them either and I found the bottle on the kitchen counter.
"Oh, I left it on the--oh shit"
You took one, didn't you? Good thing no side effects happened. Please read the label next time, Yongbok-ah. I don't want you to get sick or get in trouble.
"Sorry hyung, I'll be careful next time."
Minho ended the call and Felix explained everything to you and that made you understand why Felix was horny all day and had so much energy for a few rounds in bed.
"I should ask Minho where he buys them, you know, for research purposes." Felix smiled.

“Hey Y/N.”
You looked up from your paperwork to find Hotch staring down at you.
“Hotch... what is it?”
“My office?”
You nodded and watched as he walked away. You turned back to your desk and closed the files, then casually went to Hotch’s office, ignoring looks from Reid and Morgan.
“I swear, if this is about that case-“ You started, closing the door.
“You know it is.”
You sighed. “I’m fine, Hotch. I was hurt a bit and shaken up after. Nothing I haven’t seen or been through before.”
“You did not get hurt just a bit, and you were much more than shaken up. You know that.” His tone was a bit more condescending.
“Hey, don’t pull that stunt. “ you snapped. “It happens to the best of us.” The look on your face gave off different vibes than your tone. You watched Hotch as he sat at the edge of his desk after closing the shades for more privacy.
Within the first month after returning from the incident, you told him that he didn’t have to worry about you, that you were fine, even though there was a growing pit in your stomach ever since your near experience with death. There were certain things that only Hotch was able to pick up on about you, such as your lack of nutrition, only consuming water, tea, and multivitamins even when he would bring you your favorite takeout during the late nights. He also picked up on how little you spoke during briefings, and how much time you spent curled up in a plane seat looking out the window, knowing that you would usually be dominating a card game with everyone else, or spending time just talking to Hotch before taking a quick nap before landing. He wanted to reach out, wanted to know if you were okay, but sometimes it was hard.
You started working with Hotch 5 years ago, creeping up on 6, and since then, even though you were considered to be young, you became an SSA and his “top agent” in private. You were always spending more time with him at the BAU and most of the time, you ended up questioning people, examining a crime scene, or following a potential unsub’s whereabouts with him. Besides all of that, you two always had really deep conversations about anything and everything, and called each other “love” here and there. So yeah, you and Hotch had a special, platonic relationship, and you were not at all mad at it.
“Talk to me love. What are you thinking about?” Hotch asked, knowing that you had things on your mind. He sure was a profiler, all right.
You closed your eyes and took a deep breath. You spilled your guts about the case and how you felt after taking a bullet to your upper right abdomen and watching someone get shot in front of you and having their blood spewed all over you. Hotch listened intently, studying you as you paced around his office, making occasional eye contact with him. You then made a turn and winced.
“You okay?” He whispered. He then looked down to where your hands were clutching. “Come, lemme look at it.” Walking over to Hotch, you pulled up your sweater and revealed the remains of the bullet wounds. You watched him as he gently touched it, knowing that it still stung a bit.
Everything slowed down from the time that the unsub got shot to when you felt something pierce inside you, making you fall to the ground. You didn’t know what was going on. So many voices yelling, many of your surroundings disappearing. You lifted your head ever so slightly to find blood gushing out of you, and tears started flowing. All of a sudden, a person was towering over you.
“Y/N!” they hollered. You were unable to speak. They moved closer to you, examining your face.
Hotch.
He looked at you with sorrow in his eyes, his hand caressing your cheek, wiping off some tears.
“Don’t cry, okay? Everything will be alright. I’m here.”
You nodded ever so slightly, your head throbbing.
“Love, please answer me back.”
“Hotch... put pressure...” you sniffled, struggling to get that out. Thankfully he understood, and placed his hands on the wound so you wouldn’t continue to lose blood.
“The paramedics are on their way. I’ll be there with you at the hospital, okay? Every step of the way.”
“Y/N, you know you gotta keep it covered. It’s still healing.”
You frowned. “I was in a rush today, I forgot.”
“It’s okay.”
The two of you made eye contact and held it for a bit. “Hotch, why’d you call me in here? Did you want to question my abilities as field agent after my incident? It’s been five months, damn it. I’m perfectly fine.” You faltered at the end. When you started to walk away from Hotch, given how close you two were standing, he took your hand which made you turn back around. Out of nowhere, you admired how soft his hands were and how his veins looked. You impulsively rubbed your thumb over his veins as well. “That is not at all why I called you in here.”
You realized what was going on and that was when everything rushed back to you. Why he was always treating you to takeout, why he always asked if you were okay, why he exchanged looks with you that the rest of the team could never figure out, why he had a panic attack when you got shot, why he called you love.
“Hotch...” you whispered.
“Remember when we kissed that one night 2 years ago in the bullpen at your desk? It was super random, and we vowed to never do that again?”
“Heh, yeah.” you nodded, ducking your head to hide your smile. It was the best kiss of your life, to be completely honest.
“What’s wrong, Y/N?”
You looked up from your case file to look at Hotch. “Nothing, just thinking about myself being here at the BAU.”
“Are you having doubts?”
“Sometimes, I come in with a huge smile on my face, eager to help these people in any way that I can, eager to profile these bad guys to know what’s going on in their minds, why they do what they do, so I can get justice for their victims. But sometimes, I just can’t do it. I can’t do it, Hotch. I think I’m not good enough, I think that I’m too vulnerable out in the field. Some of these cases hit too close to home. When I sit here at my desk sometimes or when I’m trying to nap on the plane before landing, I wonder if I’m even fit for this job.” you whispered.
“It’s okay to have these thoughts, sometimes I have them myself.” Hotch paused. I want you to know that you belong here. I wanted you on my team ever since the first day I met you for training. You’re an amazing profiler as well as field agent, and you play such a major role here as an SSA. Don’t ever forget that.”
“Wow, after all this time, I never thought my unit chief would complement me like that, let alone be so sweet.” you smiled, cocking your head to the side.
“What is this about?”
“Please Hotch, nothing at all. Thank you so much. Seriously. It means a lot.”
“Of course. I care a lot about you, Y/N.”
“That’s why you took me under your wing, mentoring me. You’re honestly the reason why I am who I am.”
There was a bit of silence between the two of you. Hotch then reached over and caressed your cheek. Moving closer to you, he kissed you softly. “I’m glad that I was able to be there for you.” he mumbled against your lips after the kiss.
“It lasted for a short amount of time, but when I pulled away, I wanted more of it.” you admitted.
“And so you did.” Hotch whispered, lifting your head up gently. “I couldn’t stop thinking about it, about you. I kinda wish we didn’t make that vow.”
A slight grin was on his face as he looked at you.
“I think this is something we can break.” you whispered. Hotch knew that was his signal, and he did what he did best. Your hand crept up to the nape his neck, and he tucked some of your hair behind your ear and caressed your cheek. Leaning in, he kissed you, exactly the same way he did 2 years ago, just for a longer amount of time.
“Hey, Y/N. Come to my place tonight. I want to show you a good time.”
“I’d like that, Hotch.”

I’ve had a lovely couple days off work relaxing and I know I’m not moving as much as normal but by golly gosh, down time is so good for my soul. I’m feeling so content and not as stressed as usual that my partner is gone (working through my co-dependence issues). early dinner tonight (6.00pm) because when I woke up and still felt so heavy and I ate around 7.00pm last night so I bet I didn’t digest enough before bed, or maybe it was the cream cheese eaten too late?
also the cream cheese on corn thins, I know it’s high in fats and all but it is so god damn tasty and keeps me full for HOURS, like completely satiated! gonna try and find a lower cal one next shop but I swear it’s doing wonders for me :’)

‘There is no health without mental health’: an interview with Dr Naomi Newman-Beinart, PHD, Nutritionist (BSc) & Chartered Psychologist (CPsychol) (PhD)
Dr Naomi Newman-Beinart, Member of the CThA & Division of Health Psychology, BPS
Interview by Julia Nelson
Having access to educational information online is a real gift, but with all that’s out there, it’s always good to pick the brain of an expert to avoid getting lost in content. We had the pleasure of chatting to Dr Naomi Newman-Beinart on how to look after ourselves age 40+. Someone had to!
What is the secret to good health?
In my opinion, it's all about mindset. I always say that there is no health without mental health (it's true!). Funnily enough, I am trying to get Instagram going (it's not as easy as it sounds!) and my post yesterday was all about this, I was saying that it's obviously a brilliant idea to try and eat a healthy and varied diet (and I am super excited that new research shows that eating your 5 a day specifically 3 veg and 3 fruit - means you're more likely to live longer and less likely to have chronic illnesses as you get older). BUT I always try and focus on how I feel when I get up each day. Do you wake up feeling positive and energised? Or wake up dreading your day? Or wake up somewhere in the middle.....
No-one is expected to feel amazing 100% of the time. But it’s really important to do some things for YOU and to make sure that you aren’t struggling more than is necessary with daily stresses.
These are a few things I try to help feel better at the start of each day:
Stay in touch with people.
Increase movement and exercise.
Focus on the here and now.
Be kind to yourself and others.
Learn something new.
This advice is even more important given the global events of the past 18 months I would say.
How should women age 40+ take care of their health and wellbeing?
I think that it is really important that women are given more information about their hormonal health from the age of 40. The NHS usually do a health review for over 40's health for men and women, but this doesn’t cover hormonal changes or changes in bone density that women start to experience by this point in life. I think that as long as women are aware of hormonal changes in peri-menopause and what symptoms to look out for, and consider the fact that if they haven't already, it's time to get back into exercise - even walking, and trying to eat healthily most of the time, not always - reducing booze but still having fun, and considering any genetic illnesses that might rear their ugly heads at some point (e.g. osteoporosis - it may be time to start taking Vitamin D and think about calcium and collagen containing foods etc)
Do supplements work and do you recommend taking multivitamins every day?
I am a fan of trying to get everything you can from food, but I believe that as you get older you may struggle with a less effective digestive system and you may have more 'issues' that supplements could help with. For example, I take borage oil for hormonal health and I find it really effective, but I didn't need it when I was 25. I personally take a multivitamin most days, as I like to get my B vitamins and minerals, but I always say that it's important to get a decent quality multivitamin and not buy the cheap ones that are using poor quality ingredients and lots of fillers.
Should your blood type determine what sort of food you should be eating? i.e pescatarian diet
I tend to make my recommendations based on science when research is available, and research into blood type diets does not show that it works as such. BUT saying that, the diets recommended by blood type are generally better than most diets, so most people should feel an improvement when they try a blood type diet. I do have a few patients who swear that the blood type diet has worked for them, and if you find a healthy and workable diet that suits you, than go for it. But don't try and follow a diet that you feel you should be following if you feel bad on it or it's making you mentally struggle.
If you have a chronic health condition like osteoarthritis or Hashimoto thyroiditis for example should you tailor your diet accordingly and take specific supplements?
Yes, absolutely. You don't have to make massive changes if you already eat a good diet (e.g a Mediterranean type diet), so to aid joint health I would suggest thinking about Omega 3 and turmeric (for example) in your diet and also think about foods that cause your joint pain to flare up, and avoid those where possible. A lot of people find that tomatoes and potatoes (to name a few) cause arthritis symptoms to flare up and avoiding them can reduce pain and improve mobility. I love marine collagen powder (I take Correxiko's Marine Collagen powder every day!) to help improve my general health. I love that collagen research is very well carried out and shows great results for osteoarthritis and osteoporosis, which makes sense, as collagen plays a huge role in the health of all of our organs and joints and bones.
Hashimoto's thyroiditis (HT) - So there is some good research showing that people with thyroid issues may be deficient in certain nutrients and Vitamin D, selenium, zinc, iron and B12 are a few of them. In fact, low Vitamin D levels have been associated with worse symptoms for people with HT. I would suggest eating a varied and healthy diet (as I tell everyone!) but even more so in the case of people who are diagnosed when they are young (under 50). The longer you can go with symptoms that don't affect your daily life, the better! And eating a healthy diet has been shown time and time again to reduce the likelihood of various chronic illnesses, which you really want to reduce the risk of! Again, like with any diagnosed condition, find out what works best for you and what foods might worsen your symptoms so you know what to avoid.
Obviously if anyone is on medication, always check with your healthcare professional before taking supplements as they may interfere with your meds or not be suitable to take with your condition.
How can you get tested for food intolerances / allergies?
Yes, you can ask your GP, or you can go privately, to have allergy tests. With regards to food intolerances, I don't feel that there are any very effective tests, as you are testing something quite different than when you are testing for food allergies. I tend to suggest working together with a nutritionist, or dietitian to organise an avoidance diet to help you figure out what foods lead to negative symptoms of food intolerance.
Should women aged 40 and over have regular general health checks and who does these? Can you recommend where to go for a general health check?
Yes! I think that it is really important to keep on top of your health and to talk to your GP if you have any issues. Breast checks are very important, as are bone density scans, full blood count (including fasting glucose) and blood pressure. Pay attention to any urinary tract infections as you'll want to nip these in the bud asap to reduce the risk of kidney infection or even sepsis - these are much more common as you hit the peri-menopausal stage (age 42-48 or so).
You can pay privately to have many more tests done and that is your decision if you are able to, but as long as you keep on top of your diet and exercise and the checks mentioned here, your GP should be able to help you with any health issues that crop up.
How would you recommend prioritising your health and wellbeing?
I am a big ambassador for kindness. I believe that if you are kind to others then it comes back to you in terms of mental health. And that brings me back to suggesting that people focus on their mental health as a priority. It's also important to consider that research has found that people who eat more unhealthy foods are more likely to report moderate to severe psychological distress - so if you are able to try and eat healthily, one meal at a time, I would hope that you would start to feel better emotionally and then be more likely to make good decisions about exercise. That is how we build healthy habits :). I am a chartered psychologist specialising in health psychology and I find this works so well with my nutrition degree.
Nowadays there’s such a strong focus on living a healthy life, and it can be daunting and to be honest, a little bit scary…..
Don’t stress. Just take one day at a time and think about one healthy choice at a time. This can be a useful way to think about diet, exercise and emotional health.
We promote ethical lifestyle brands and green living, can you tell us what ethical lifestyle brands you like and use?
I have used so many over the years and good ethics is VERY important to me when it comes to brands that I use. I love Correxiko, as mentioned earlier. I also LOVE Uralix as I think that they have a wonderful outlook and the owner really wants to help women with urinary tract infections (which are so awful!) and this is 100% why she invented the product. I love Higher Nature products - I am currently using their 'relax kids' powder at bed every night (for me!), but all of their products are fab. And I love Greenspring matcha tea powder as I love and need the theanine that you get naturally from matcha tea. Ooooooh I also love medicinal mushrooms and Hifas da Terra are a wonderful and highly ethical company that do fantastic mushroom research to help people with ailments that are not necessarily being helped enough by medications.
How can women feel confident and positive about their health?
Don't make changes for anyone else, make them for yourself. You don't have to calorie count and be a size 8-10 to feel great. As long as you are doing your best to live a healthy life, you don't have to be perfect everyday! Don't deny yourself when you want a glass of wine or a treat and don't put everyone else first, you have to come first too. Try and focus on the here and now and what you can do right now that will make you happy and as you act positively, it will help you build healthy habits (that's the psychologist in me talking.....).

5 More Tips For Incoming Freshmen
( a sequel post )
1. Don’t be afraid to explore outside of your major; whether it’s just for fun (taking a literature or art class just for kicks) or because you’re genuinely interested in pursuing something new and different.
If you find that you love the new thing you’re studying there’s nothing wrong with changing your major, picking up a minor, or looking into the avenue of double majoring. Talk to your advisor, find out about peer advising in the department you’re interested in and pursue it; this is your chance to make sure that you’re really going down the road you want to be on.
Also don’t let anyone tell you that it’s sill to get a minor in something totally “unrelated” to your field: everything is related and it’s all going to help you in the long run! You’re a STEM who wants to get a minor in studio art? That’s amazing! It’s going to help you so much! All STEM fields require so much creativity, developing your artistic ability is going to be such an asset! If you’re interested in language, literature, philosophy? That’s also great! It shows a devotion to communication skills and will help you develop new ways of thinking! If you’re in the arts and you want to study computer science? HELL YES! Build your own website! Create a video game! Or just be able to fix anything that comes up at whatever job you work at in the future! Literally any topic you think of is going to be useful for whatever career path you’ve chosen.
And along those lines; YOU are the human who will be doing the careering down the path so you get to choose. I’m not saying choose just whatever old thing makes you happy; make sure it’s something you know that you can do and want to do as a career but if you want to study it, if you’re devoted to making it into something then you can do it and there is help on your campus to get you there so don’t be afraid if you need to make a change.
I consider changing my major a minimum of three times per quarter. Don’t be afraid to explore, investigate what makes you happy and brings you joy, find out what you want to be and who you want to be; college is a building block for creating that person.
2. Related but on a slightly different note; try something new and different. Try something for no other reason than because everyone back home will say “YOU DID WHAT?” when they hear. My thing was rugby.
Turns out my 5”3, non-athletic self LOVES rugby. I don’t have the time to devote to it that it requires and I was too sick this last year to play but rugby = LOVE in my book and I never would have known that if a friend hadn’t suggested it and then dragged me out there. This year I think my thing is going to be swing dancing, I have some friends who do it and it sounds wild and like a lot of crazy fun work.
So look up the clubs on campus and find a thing that sounds cool and new and WILD.
For you it might be a writing club or something involving music, or improv, or acting, or dance, or soccer! But get out of your comfort zone even if you only go to one meeting or event; you’ll have that memory forever and it’ll be a great story if nothing else.
3.  On a completely different note: put the follow numbers in your phone 1) the non-emergent campus safety, 2) the emergent campus safety, 3) whatever kind of “safe ride” your university offers if they have one (they probably do, if you can’t find it online call and ask the non-emergent line about it). Do this before you even get to campus.
The non-emergent line is good for when you’ve stayed late at the library and you’re a little bit wary of walking home alone for the first time at 2am; they’ll send a night guard to escort you home; I swear this is not a weird request, they totally understand that campus looks creepy at night, they’re entire job description is to keep you safe.
The emergent line (I hope you never have to use it) is what you should call if you ever need 911 while on campus, they’ll contact emergency responders and coordinate them to where you are on campus.
The safe ride home is a service you should absolutely utilize; almost every school I know has some version of it these days.
4. You’re probably going to get lonely, homesick, or exhausted to the point of tears. No matter how many friends you make, how much you go home (or don’t want to go home), or how well you take care of yourself one of these things is likely to happen.
I would like to let you know that:
A) your roommate is not going to think any less of you because you need to have a good cry
B) psych services on campus will offer some sort of one time (or series of two or three) visit sessions for dealing with this; use it.
A lot of the time you need someone who is outside of the situation to help you reset after a big emotional outburst even once you’ve started to feel a little bit more okay. If you feel off for more than two or three days go to psych services and talk to someone; there’s no minimum requirement of “issue” to talk to someone.
5. In addition to all of the wonderful things you’ve already bought for your dorm do yourself a favor and put together a “sick” basket; a can of your favorite soup, some crackers, cold and flu medicine, cough drops, tissues (full size and backpack), eye drops, ginger ale, and your go to feel good low caffeine tea (mine is throat coat).
Bonus tip; get a multivitamin! You’re probably about to go from living with people you’ve shared a home with for years to living with strangers who come from all over who have all sorts of different germs than you. My big recommendation is that you get a multivitamin before you move in and go ahead and start taking it as soon as possible; give your immune system a good boost so that it has a better fighting chance. Getting sick the first few weeks of school is a sucky way to start college.
The original 5 Tips post
Other college tips from me and ones that I think are v cool :)
Good luck!

@rkrachel:
the morning after the last showcase, rachel makes it her personal mission to show her own bit of support for the convex boys. it’s taken her most of the week to gather everything she wants to include in her ‘care package’ and write the notes (shaky hangul and all included) to each of the boys. little things like this are something she used to do for everyone, and in hoping to reintegrate herself with the rest of the trainees, and to show her own pride in the work that each of them have put in, she chooses this as one of the best options.
each little box is addressed to each of the boys, delivered to their dorm (since she’s definitely not one for full-on approaches lately) in a large bag. inside each box is ten different facial masks, fifteen packs of multivitamins, large packages of epsom salts, teas, and a water bottle with each boy’s name on it. the note reads:
some days you might not feel it, but the whole of sphere supports you in your debut and we’re proud to see you succeed. your showcase was wonderful and is only a taste of what’s to come. we wish you every success in the future, but for now, please rest and take care of yourselves until the next big project. healthy idols reflect well! ㅋ personally, we may not know each other well, but please know that my heart is with convex and i will be proud when your official debut is made and i can support each of you with my whole heart for the public to see.
convex, fighting! - rachel
the morning after their showcase, taeyong feels a whole onslaught of emotions – fear, happiness, excitement, nervousness. all wrapped into one tiny package ( he swears he’s working on working out more intensely, but his slim little dancer’s body won’t allow him too ). his nerves had eased after receiving a multitude of texts from his friends, saying that he’s done well, saying that they love him, saying that he really suits the stage. he still can’t believe it happened – and he wakes up in the early morning hours before his schedules feeling like he’s on top of the world ( not to say that that feeling can’t change – it probably will, to be quite honest ).
what he doesn’t expect is a large bag delivered to their dorm, addressed from rachel herself. taeyong has had a few conversations with rachel here and there – he has an immense amount of respect for her, and she even reminds him of his cousin back home. nurturing, yet also calm and collected – or at least, that’s how he views her. he retrieves his own box with his name on it, and a smile immediately appears on his bare, still sleep-ridden face.
in all honesty, reading the note attached makes him incredibly emotional, and he feels his eyes get glossy right from the get-go. it’s all he needs – supportive messages like this, knowing that people have his back even if he doesn’t have his own.
he makes a mental note to thank rachel in person. it’s the least he can do for someone who’s done so much for him – even if it seems just like what she’s done is expected.

Flu Prevention and Treatment
This season, it is absolutely imperative that you take flu prevention and treatment seriously. According to the Centers for Disease Control this year’s flu is the worst in nearly a decade. The most virulent strain, H3N2, is the likely culprit and this virus is proving potentially deadly—even to previously healthy people. Worse still, the flu shot is failing miserably with only a 10-17 percent rate of effectiveness. With several weeks to go in the season, it’s time to get serious about flu prevention.
Natural Flu Prevention
One of the most important flu prevention steps you can take—aside from frequent hand washing—is to boost your immune system with supplements.
Start by increasing your daily dose of vitamin D3. Vitamin D has profound effects on the immune system. Because sunlight stimulates its production in the body, vitamin D levels fall precipitously during the fall and winter months. In fact, annual declines may well be the “missing link” in the seasonal nature of influenza. For most people, 2,000-5,000 IU of vitamin D3 daily is enough to bring blood levels into the 40-60 ng/mL protective range.
Another nutritional supplement for flu treatment and flu prevention is N-acetylcysteine (NAC), a detoxifying antioxidant that has potent antiviral and antimicrobial properties. Studies show that 600 mg taken twice per day is an extremely effective way to prevent flu, especially in older individuals.
Most people think probiotics’ main role is relieving digestive woes, but did you know that a very large percentage of your immune system resides in your gut—and that supporting a healthy balance of intestinal microbes is a key to good health? Taking a high-quality probiotic on a regular basis is essential, especially when it comes to flu prevention and optimal immune function.
To make sure all your nutritional bases are covered, don’t forget to take a potent antioxidant-rich multivitamin and mineral supplement daily. And if someone in your family or at work gets sick, add extra vitamin C, zinc, and echinacea to your daily supplement regimen to help prevent flu.
IV Nutrients: Flu Prevention and an Immune System Boost
If you really want to give your immune system a leg up and have your best shot at flu prevention, you should seriously consider intravenous (IV) nutrients.
When nutrients such as vitamin C are administered intravenously—directly into the bloodstream—they bypass the gastrointestinal (GI) tract, allowing for better absorption and greater potency. Unlike large doses of oral vitamin C, which can cause loose stools, IV vitamin C has no effect on the GI tract whatsoever, plus it promotes much higher blood levels. To put this into perspective, 10 g of IV vitamin C raises serum levels 25 times higher than the same dose taken orally.
Wellness Drips Work Wonders for Flu Prevention
At Whitaker Wellness, one of our most popular IV therapies is our wellness drip, a potent antioxidant “cocktail” that includes high-dose vitamin C and a variety of other immune-boosting nutrients. Our patients swear by these drips:
Whenever I feel like I’m starting to come down with a cold or flu, I head over to Whitaker Wellness for an IV immune drip. It contains high doses of vitamin C, which improves immune function. Believe it or not, I feel better almost immediately, and rarely does the “bug” get the best of me. My children (late teens, early 20s) also go to the clinic for immune drips, and they have the same experience. — P.L.D., Newport Beach, CA
I like to visit the clinic every few weeks—or at least every month—during cold and flu season for a wellness drip. I figure an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure…and I haven’t had the flu in years so I must be doing something right! — Claudia G., Manhattan Beach, CA

30 goals all women should achieve by age 30 by Love, Haley
30 goals all women should achieve by age 30As you can probably tell from my photograph, I am not quite thirty. In fact, so long as I'm being honest, I am not even a legal adult just yet (I turn 18 in July). I am, however, old enough to know what kind of woman I'd like to be by the prime age of thirty: self-assured, capable, and successful. My hopeful guess is that many other girls my age, and even most twenty-something women, want the same things as me. What follows is a list of basic goals I'm striving to achieve by age 30 - ones I think you should strive for, too. 1. Pay off your student loans. This is probably wishful thinking on my part, but unless you've been in graduate, medical, or law school, or recently gone back for a new degree, thirty seems late to be making those last few payments. Pay your loans off as early as possible so you can avoid nasty interest rates and evade debt later. 2. Think long and hard about marriage - but ignore others' expectations. By thirty, most single women are probably feeling the pressure from family, friends, and society: "When are you going to get married?" "When will I have grandchildren?" But before she answers anyone else's questions, you should know the answer yourself: Do you really want to get married? It might be my inner child of divorced parents talking, but marriage definitely isn't for everyone. Likewise, you are no less "feminist" or "progressive" for wanting a traditional family. There's no better time than your twenties to decide if marriage just isn't your thing, or if you're looking to put a ring on it. 3. Refer to your vagina by name. In other words, boycott the words "down there." At thirty, you are a grown-ass woman. Shyly pointing to your pelvis won't help the doctor figure out what your problem is. Just spit it out already: IT'S A VAGINA! 4. Know what you can and can't wear to work. Here's what I learned while conducting research for my interview in the Governor's Office: corporate careers, like law, government, and finance, generally require suits or pencil skirts with low hemlines and muted colors, while "business casual" allows for cardigans instead of blazers, bare legs (but still no hems above the knee), and brighter colors. Also, as a general rule, never wear anything so short, small, or sparkly your grandma wouldn't approve of it. 5. Understand your skin type. Last summer, when I got my first facial from Ulta, I basically learned that everything I'd thought about my skin was wrong. To which I basically said "Ok, cool." No woman should have to learn that lesson beyond the age of thirty. If you're rounding the bend and still can't manage your skin woes, have your skin mapped by a dermatologist or cosmetologist. Skin mapping gives you a visual of where your skin is oily and dry, and even helps you target the source of your breakouts (mine are hormonal, in case you were wondering). 6. Quit dieting. When I first learned about intuitive eating, I was a 16-year-old girl struggling to overcome a severely damaged relationship with food and some borderline anorexic habits. In case you haven't heard of it, intuitive eating is - quite simply - eating when you're hungry and stopping when you're full. Deciding to combat the cycle of yo-yo dieting - i.e. lose weight, gain it back, rinse, repeat - and to instead trust my body's natural instincts was quite possibly the most important decision I ever made. Yes, I still eat way too much Annie's mac 'n' cheese, and I definitely still binge on ice cream when I'm PMSing (sometimes I even feel guilty about it), but now that no food is "off-limits" to me, I've also learned what it feels like to crave healthy foods like veggie sticks and oatmeal....weird, right? 7. Practice self-care. It's a lesson all women need to learn: taking care of yourself isn't selfish. It makes you a more complete person, because you are able to address your most basically needs that might not be met. For example, are you sleeping enough? Are you drinking enough water? Are you eating three meals a day? Start with these basics before moving on to more complex needs, such as feeling safe, comfortable, important, and loved. 8. See a therapist. I have a friend who - much like Jennifer Aniston and Gwyneth Paltrow - swears that everyone should try therapy, and I have to agree. You don't need to be mentally ill to benefit from therapy. While I haven't been to therapy since childhood, I fully plan on going again before I get married, because I know there are issues related to my parents' divorce that I need to work through before I can have a truly healthy relationship. You don't have to like it once you try it, but you do have to realize that some problems are simply too big for you to solve on your own - and if therapy's too expensive for you, know that there are plenty of free mental health resources that anyone can take advantage of. 9. Learn how and when to say no - and then actually do it. "No" is in every woman's vocabulary - for example, when my conservative friend asks if I'll be voting Republican in the next election. But how often do we say no to our friends, who want to go out drinking for the third time this week when all we want to do is watch Netflix in pajamas? Or to our bosses, who want us to finish four critical projects by the end of next week and still have the nerve to ask if we'd be willing to take on a fifth? We women feel responsible for taking care of everything and everyone; it's our natural, biological instinct to put on everyone else's oxygen mask before tending to our own. But know this: it is not your job to protect everyone else's feelings from being hurt. Once you turn thirty, it's about time you put on your own damn mask first - before it really does become a life or death situation. 10. Find a cause you care about. By thirty, you've finally pushed past the grueling years of school-stipulated community service in high school and college. Thus, in adulthood, volunteering is more rewarding than ever because it is, finally, 100% voluntary. So, take it upon yourself to explore the causes you're passionate about. Once you've found that cause - whether it's lobbying for cruelty-free cosmetics or building houses with Habitat for Humanity - stick with it for a lifetime of fulfillment. 11. Start speaking candidly about sex. The most perfect time to start being honest about your wants and needs during sex is the first time you have it. Nevertheless, being straightforward is difficult for most normal, caring human beings (and if it's not hard for you, then kudos for being more badass but no less loving than the rest of us). After all, you don't want to be needy. You don't want your complaints to interfere with your partner's pleasure. You don't want to "kill the mood" - although suffering through discomfort and even pain just to save a little awkwardness pretty much does the trick in that category. But trust me, sex is better for everyone involved when both people are honest about their feelings. Don't just speak up - don't be afraid to ask your partner how he or she or xe is doing, too. 12. Save for retirement. You are given a 401K for a reason. It's your responsibility to use it. And, in case you were wondering - which I know I have been, considering I'm only 17 - your 401K is a workplace savings plan that allows you to invest part of your paycheck for retirement, without subjecting it to taxes. Also important to know: the recommended savings rate is about 10% of your income, meaning anything above that is stellar. (Another finance lesson I learned today: the difference between subsidized and unsubsidized loans. Who knew, right?!) 13. Take a multivitamin.... Which reminds me, I haven't taken mine yet today. BRB. 14. Accept all compliments without qualifying them. Stop saying "Thanks, but..." whenever someone tells you how pretty or smart you are. You're a gorgeous, badass genius. Please recognize yourself as such. 15. Say "I love you" as often as possible. Simply put, you never know when it might be the last time. Call your parents to say it, and especially your grandparents, if you're lucky enough to have them. 16. Wear less makeup, less often. #iwokeuplikethis shouldn't be specially reserved for celebrities who have paid for thousands of dollars in plastic surgery and skin-care treatments. All women should feel comfortable enough in their own skin not only to post a makeup-free selfie, but also to walk around unencumbered by greasy foundation and clumps of mascara hanging in their eyes in their day-to-day lives. If applying professional-quality makeup every day is your jam, you do you. But don't let society's unreasonable standards make you feel obliged to cake on the blush when you're really not feeling it. 17. Go to the doctor. And the dentist. And the gynecologist. Especially the gyn. The fact that your mom stopped making appointments for you is no excuse to stop going. In general, women need a check-up and a full pelvic exam (that includes a Pap smear) every year, and a dentist appointment every six months. And, on that note, my first visit to the gynecologist is about six years overdue.... 18. Accept your clothing size. Accept that it does not define you, ever. So the size five jeans didn't fit, after all...a word of advice in this situation: "fat" is just a meaningless adjective, not a feeling. Don't try and force them to fit - or worse, starve yourself to squeeze into them. Your size is merely a number that has nothing to do with your self-worth, so don't belittle yourself for going up a size (or over-pride yourself on going down). Your booty will look much better in some comfy size sevens, anyways. 19. Find a workout that doesn't suck. Admittedly, the level of a workout's suckiness is relative. Personally, I hate running, but some people swear it is the be-all end-all and that you haven't truly lived until you've run your first marathon. (Me, on the other hand? I'm more of a "lift weights and kick shit" kind of girl.) However, the important thing isn't how you work out. All that matters is that you do. So, in the wise words of Nike, just do it.   20. Have a will. Where there's a will, there's a way...to provide for your death. Not the most optimistic sentiment, but still important, and still completely necessary - especially if you have already started a family by then. 21. Know how to defend yourself. In my opinion, self-defense classes, along with rape prevention classes, should be mandatory parts of college orientation for both genders. Many colleges do offer the opportunity to take classes like this, and I fully encourage women in particular to take advantage of them. I know I will. But in case you missed your shot in college, know that it is never too late to learn how to defend yourself. At the very least, applying to carry pepper spray - that's right, there's an application now (or in the state of Massachusetts there is) - will offer some extra protection. 22. Vote. Too many elections are swayed not by those who actually vote, but by the vast number of Americans who don't. I've said it once and I'll say it again: you are a grown-ass woman. You can handle watching a debate or two and checking off a box at the polls. Just long as it's not next to the word Trump. 23. Travel alone. Learning to live alone is one of those valuable life lessons learned in college that most adults wouldn't trade for anything. Even more rewarding - or so I hear - is the experience of traveling by oneself. Planning, budgeting, and executing a trip all on your own is a lot of hard work - but it's an important step toward becoming a self-sufficient adult in an unforgiving world. (And, as a sardonic side note, traveling alone as a woman may also be the perfect chance to test out some of your new self-defense skills.) 24. Own a planner - and actually use it. My planner rules my life. The days I forget it at home are days that most people should probably avoid me. While not everyone needs to be as obsessed with their planner as I am, I think every woman would benefit from getting in the habit of writing down assignments (whether at work or school), important appointments, birthdays, etc....especially if it's in a cute Lilly Pulitzer or Kate Spade agenda. 25. Pay attention to the news. Daily. Unless you need to avoid triggering material due to a mental illness like depression, it is absolutely essential to know what's going on in the world at all times. Political affairs can change in the blink of an eye, and you don't want to be the only one at work who doesn't know about the big financial crisis overseas or the latest terrorist attack. I subscribe to theSkimm to get my news in one convenient daily dose. It's delivered straight to my inbox five days a week, it's easy reading, and - best of all - it's completely free. 26. Follow up when networking. I met an amazing professional from the State Street Corporation in Boston at a Girl Scout event this November - and what did I forget to do? The most crucial step of networking of course: I forgot to follow up! (Of course, the irony of the whole situation is that one of the topics of the company's presentation was networking. But that's a story for another time.) By the time I finally got around to building a LinkedIn profile, it seemed awkward for me to try to get in touch. So I still haven't. And now I've learned my lesson. Hopefully you, too, will learn yours before age thirty. 27. Identify your priorities - and edit your life accordingly. "Edit your life" seems like such an obnoxious Hollywood phrase, so I'll explain in layman's terms: if you are twenty-two years old and still taking the piano lessons your parents made you start when you were five, even though you really hate them, my only question to you is: why? 28. Try journaling. I've kept a journal since I was eight years old, and not only has it helped me preserve my memories, but it has also trained me to better write and communicate, and to express my emotions in a safe, constructive way. Knowing that I can reach for my journal whenever I'm sad, mad, or scared is an enormous comfort to me - one that I think every woman should experience by age thirty. 29. Put your phone away when you're with friends. Unfortunately, I come from the generation where "hanging out" means sitting next to friends while scrolling through your individual Pinterest feeds. Fortunately, all it takes to change that is a little bit of will power...good thing I have 12.5 years to master that one! 30. Set reasonable goals. I learned from Girl Scouts that if there's anything all goals should be, it's SMART: in other words, Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Realistic, and Timely. Saying "I will become a U.S. Senator" probably isn't realistic for a twenty-year-old soon-to-be college graduate - but saying "I will apply to intern with my state Senator by the start of second semester" is. That isn't to say we shouldn't dream big - but in the wise words of Drake, who "started at the bottom/now he here," the path to success starts small and gradually grows over time. Nobody learns to run before they learn to walk - except maybe Amy Poehler. She's so fabulous; I'm pretty sure she ran first.

My Top Supplement Recommendations
Hiya Gorgeous,
People always ask me what supplements are you taking, Kris? And while it’s not exactly the same for everyone, there are certain supplements that can be of tremendous benefit. I call them “the foundationals”. So I’ve pulled together my list of basic supplements for you in this blog.
But before we move on, I want to take a moment to recommend checking with your health care practitioner before adding supplements to your life. He or she may recommend blood tests or other supplement options for unique and beautiful you.
Now, you may be wondering why I take supplements if I eat a plant-based, whole foods, green-juice-and-smoothie-packed diet. Basically, I think of them as a vitamin and nutrient insurance policy and everyday health booster. Plus, I sometimes take extra supplements for specific health challenges.
Confused about #supplements? Find out which ones you should take & why… @Kris_Carr #health
I also always take whole food vitamins because they have very few (if any) of the unidentifiable additives and synthetic compounds found in the cheaper Centrum-type brands.
Also, I recommend taking supplements with food (unless otherwise directed—as is the case with probiotics). When you have food in your tummy, you’re more likely to prevent stomach upset, plus it can increase absorption of the nutrients in the supplement. Two of my favorite supplement lines are Deva and Pure Encapsulations.
Now that we’ve gone over some basics, let’s move on to my list! These are also the supplements I recommend to participants in Crazy Sexy You—my Total Wellness Program (join the waitlist for the June 2017 launch!). Over the past decade, these supplements have helped support my health and they could become a priceless part of your wellness routine, too.
Level I: Every Day (Or Every Other Day) Supplements
These are the basic supplements I’d recommend everyone check out, especially if you eat lots of fruits and veggies, a varied whole foods diet, live a healthy and active life and aren’t overdoing it with alcohol, caffeine or stress.
Get a bang for your buck with a multivitamin: While you’re likely getting most or all of the recommended vitamins and minerals in your diet, taking a multivitamin every other day can give you nutrient insurance—in case your diet hasn’t been perfectly balanced lately, or the foods weren’t as rich in nutrients (which is pretty common these days).
If you eat a completely plant-based diet, you’re likely lacking in vitamin B12, which is included in a multi, too. The natural and most readily absorbable form of B12 is methylcobalamin. However, most multi’s contain cyanocobalamin. Keep your eye out as companies will hopefully move toward methylcobalamin in the near future. For now, however, I like the Deva brand multivitamin and mineral supplement, New Chapter Only One Multivitamin and MegaFood One Daily. If you have your levels tested and realize you need extra B12, I like the B12 from Deva that dissolves under your tongue. It’s not only the more absorbable methyl form, but the under-the-tongue method skips potentially problematic absorption in your digestive tract.
Try vitamin D3 for disease prevention, energy and healthy bones: Vitamin D has been touted as the answer to everything from healthy bones and immune system to preventing diabetes and cancer. As a result, more and more people are testing their levels and discovering that they’re deficient despite their latitude and regular sun exposure. It’s a good idea to ask your health practitioner to test your levels if you’re curious. Most people don’t even know they’re deficient until they start supplementing and begin to feel more energetic (I didn’t!).
Twenty-five micrograms (1,000 IUs) daily is a good starting point if your levels are within recommended range. But, more may be needed if your levels are low, so work with your doctor to determine the right supplemental dose. Keep in mind that vitamin D is fat-soluble, which means you can potentially overdo it. However, the tolerable upper limit has been set at 4,000 IUs daily with research showing higher amounts safe for people who are low.
It’s also good to note that there are two types of vitamin D: D2 and D3. D2 is plant-based and D3 is almost always animal-based. Most research has shown that vitamin D3 is more efficiently absorbed compared with vitamin D2. Recently, Vitashine and Garden of Life have developed vegan forms of D3. However, I cannot vouch for their effectiveness, so please explore this personally if you choose to go this route.
Add omega-3s (EPA and DHA) for a healthier heart, brain and nervous system: Most of the omega-3 fatty acids that we get in foods, like flaxseeds or walnuts, take the form of alpha-linolenic acid (ALA) (see more in my fats blog here). Our bodies can convert some ALA to DHA and EPA, which is what’s needed for your brain and heart—but not much—so supplementation may be necessary.
DHA/EPA supplements are often derived from fish oil, but there are also plant-based varieties that are made with algae (which is where the fish get their DHA to begin with). Many health professionals now recommend supplementation of both (see my interview with integrative doc, Aviva Romm, here), including 300 milligrams of DHA daily for women who are pregnant, nursing or preparing to conceive. Rejuvenation Science and Deva make high-quality and inexpensive vegan DHA/EPA supplements.
Level II: Basic Supplement Extras
These are supplements that I believe most people benefit from because of the daily pressures and challenges of today’s world. In particular, check out the following list if you have concerns with heart health, feel overstressed, have digestive issues or just don’t feel like your diet is up to snuff.
Use probiotics when anything is “off”: Whether you’re feeling bloated, run down, have just come off a round of antibiotics or are feeling blue, a daily probiotic to help restore your good bacteria may be just the answer. The good news is, you can’t overdo it with probiotics, so I grab them pretty frequently (like every day!), even in anticipation of a busy work week. My favorites are Dr. Ohhira’s, Renew Life Ultimate Flora and Jarro-Dophilus EPS (Jarro-Dophilus and Dr. Ohhira’s are especially good for travel because they don’t have to be refrigerated). According to health practitioners, they can safely be taken long-term.
Support your heart and energy levels with CoEnzyme Q10 (CoQ10): CoQ10 is an antioxidant that increases the use of oxygen in the body. It’s anti-aging, can increase energy levels and is especially important for overall heart health and people on statin drugs. Docs typically recommend 90-120 mg CoQ10 daily, taken when eating a meal that includes fat. One of my favorite brands of CoQ10 is by Pure Encapsulations, and the Deva brand makes a great one, too. Reduce stress with magnesium: Magnesium is anti-inflammatory, which helps strengthen muscles (including the biggie, your heart!) and increases relaxation in the body—allowing you to respond to stress in a healthier way. It can help alleviate insomnia, and it also helps to lower the worst LDL cholesterol (study). Most health practitioners recommend 300-600 milligrams supplemental magnesium glycinate to be taken before bed (the glycinate version is less likely to cause diarrhea). Pure Encapsulations has one here.
Get extra stress-relieving power with adaptogenic herbs. Mother Nature has given us a powerful family of herbs that may help your body adapt to stress and prevent the damaging effects stress can have on your adrenal glands. For an extra bit of stress-relieving power, check out Panax Ginseng, Rhodiola rosea, Ashwagandha, Holy Basil and Licorice. I’ve gone into more detail in my blog here.
Want more health tips? Get my Crazy Sexy Starter Kit delivered to your inbox immediately:
I hope you find this list handy. I know starting a supplement routine can be overwhelming, so just start by adding a couple of the basics and go from there. And as I mentioned, it’s always smart to work with a knowledgeable and holistic health practitioner.
Now your turn! Tell me what supplements you swear by and your favorite brands.

1/14/17, 5:41am - can’t sleep
too much stuff on my mind. and a bit of a headache. I know I said I’d quit this thing, but I can’t. but as far as I’m concerned, if I’m going to cop out of that I’m at least going to swear off the kiss-and-tell braggadocio though. And tone down the negative vibe.
This aboutta be some feelgood shit up in here.
I mean not everything’s going great. To be totally honest I still have literally no idea how this financial situation is going to work out. But I’m sure it will.
But my friends have been so good to me. I love them all so much.
Need to start with the excellent gourmet kingdom dinner that I went out to with the smash fam on wednesday. Lucas, Corey, Dylan, Patricio, Clem, Jwilli, Spencer all treated me. Fuck I hope I’m not forgetting someone lmao. I know I’m forgetting like one or two mofukkas. I wasn’t going to go ofc, but since I wasn’t going to go because money was tight they offered to pay for my meal and I reluctantly accepted.  [as much as i’d do it for anyone, I still feel a little bothered accepting these kinds of gifts from my friends. I don’t really feel like I can’t take care of myself or something, I just feel like I... shouldn’t. Because if I can’t plan on coming out of my own financial problems how can I plan on paying them back and how can I accept a gift in the first place then?]
Thursday I got to team with Ian, and it was some of the most fun I’ve ever had playing in tournament. We DOMINATED the winners bracket of that tournament. only lost one game and had some of the filthiest combos I’ve ever seen in my life. Just got cold waiting for grands and didn’t play as well. Was so much fun though, really made me happy to have poured so much time into practicing. Just gotta keep doing better.
After the tournament a whole ton of people came over to my place to play for the night. Can’t even get into it but it was great. in all I played from 4pm until 6am and only stopped because I got a splitting headache and felt like I was going to die finally hahahah... Probably should have gotten some dinner or somethnig lmao.
I was supposed to try to play with Kevin today, but instead I spent the day with Weilin. Him and a few people had crashed at my place, so we went on a mini road trip to take Decker back to greensboro. We spent a little time trying to get his phone fixed, spent some time trying to find me new pants, ate some delicious gyros and had a long car talk about hentai and the pursuit of happiness and financial goals and life and melee and everything, man. So glad that happened.
We met up with Arun, Arvind, Irene, and Broscious to eat at Bali Hai and do an escape room out at durham. Got a huge ass plate of meat thanks to weilin covering for me, and had a great time solving the 90′s themed puzzles with the gang. We tore it up, too. Only got stumped by a cd in a book and a madonna song hahaha. Those guys are all some smart motherfuckers, I’ll tell ya whattt. And while we waited for this safe to unlock me and Broscious got to slam down some Pogs and mostly just slap them around on a table hahahahaha. I was supposed to go to a party tonight that my old pokemon go team was throwing to celebrate Kelly turning level 40, but there was no way I was gonna pull myself away from those guys for anything. We spent a couple hours playing board games and talking/gossipping/catching up and getting cookout. Excited as fuck to do it again tomorrow.
But the real reason I’m writing this post is because Irene wanted us to do this neat little thing that was admittedly a little lame but amazingly feelgood and really made me happy. I think she called it a compliment circle, where we all had to think of at least a compliment for each other, and we took turns doing whatever the opposite of a roast is. I really don’t want to forget any of the things that they said, because it’s not often that people go out of their way to give you honest totally-for-nothing compliments, yknow? They’re not verbatim because my short term memory sucks, but I’ll do my best here.
“You’re the best.” “you have a beautiful smile and jaw structure and face and eyes and you’re just a great looking dude and if I were a chick I’d date you and if you were a chick I’d date you, and if we both were chicks I’d date you.” “it seems like you always have a lot of things messing with your life, but despite that you’re always a great person to be around. you never seem to let things get to you and you always have a smile on your face and you’re never a downer.” “you do a lot of things for your friends and the melee community and just people in general. you never really seem to expect anything in return and I don’t think that gets brought up much.” “You make me push myself to be better.” “I like your nose” (weird. broscious, you don’t read my blog, do you??) “you’ve got a really warm personality and do a really great job of including everyone when you try to talk to them and like in the puzzle room.” “You’re always there for me, even at times when nobody else was.”
goddamn, man. I don’t even care if it’s narcissistic to put those down here. I have to put them Somewhere. Literally shed a tear writing them down, I feel so good about all that shit. It really couldn’t have come at a better time with everything hitting the fan and all of my self image issues recently. Maybe they knew that.
What I didn’t think to tell them then was that it’s friends like them and everyone I hung out this week and everyone in my life that cares about me still that make my life so happy in the first place. It’s like... when I finally get to be in a room with people I know and can enjoy their company it’s like all the bullshit that exists outside just isn’t important anymore. Relaxing by talking and playing games is so fucking wonderful.
Speaking of my issues again, might as well follow up on new years goals and self improvement stuff.
Feeling much better about my teeth. Got my cavities filled (I had fucking TEN), got my teeth cleaned for the first time in years, I’ve finally got this image out of my head that my crowned tooth looks dead. Forreal, idk if it was the cleaning, or just talking to the dentist about whether they think it matches and then thinking about it, or what the deal is, but I Swear ever since I decided it wasn’t worth having my crown replaced again it’s looked better. Matches color better and more consistently, doesn’t look off balanced, I just look good. I really want to blame it on the cleaning but maybe it really was just a mental thing... Idk. I’m just happy my teeth are finally healthy, holy shit thinking about my mouth too hard the past couple years has been horrifying. Right now my gums hurt because I flossed for the first time in forever. Might be why I can’t sleep, but starting good habits.
Don’t know what’s up with my weight, haven’t been keeping track of that yet.
Have been doing Great about drinking water. Have only drank soda on a few occasions at all, back to living on powdered lemonade like I said I would. Probably should still be drinking more, but off to a great start. Still haven’t been on reddit since the new year (though I don’t think I wrote this resolution down), but still passively start to type it in the search bar sometimes. Shit’s difficult. Progress on my septum is put on hold for now, family doctor is waiting to refer me until I have a followup visit with them about my lab work. Supposedly I had “small red blood cells” so like either dehydration or anemia. Probably both lolll. Hopefully not something more serious, but who knows. Been taking a multivitamin daily. Been spending less money lmaoooo.  Haven’t been cooking for myself the past few days but DID start doing that finally. Just gotta keep it up.  Still no good on exercise. Still haven’t bought a pack of cigarettes. Smoking a lot of that pipe tobacco, but it definitely doesn’t make me feel cravings like cigs do. Pretty great there.  Started goofing around on tinder again just to get that out of the way. Got a few matches, but I’ve been sandbagging this game really hard lol. e.g. I’ve been a lottt more picky about who I swipe, way too detailed about how nerdy I am in my profile, and not playing with it all that much tbh. I.e. doing all the things that are probably healthier dating habits but are def not anything close to how you need to play tinder to be successful from what I’ve ever experienced. That being said I’ve already partially rediscovered my hatred for it and think it’s a waste of time, but whatever. Not entirely motivated to meet new people right now anyway, so even if I’m not exactly happy to be swiping through a couple dozen people without matching I’m definitely not let down either. It just doesn’t feel like the right time for me, and also I totally wouldn’t have money for dates now that I think about it lmaoo. Last thing I’m gonna mention is that I haven’t been fucking with my fingers nearly as much. Just lost my week-or-so streak I was on, fidgeting in the car today, but def doing a lot better.
Everything’s doing a lot better. I’m still totally fucked, but I feel pretty great and I’m doing pretty great and everything’s going to be even more great soon enough.
#pogchamp [6:52am. never gonna sleep oh god rip hahaha]
