Today’s compilation:
Dance: Progressive House/Trance/Tribal 1994 Progressive House / Tribal House / House / Trance
Good lord, this was a journey; a mostly terrible one, but a journey nonetheless. See, I thought I was gonna have a fun time with this trip back into what's probably my favorite era of dance music, overall—circa '93/'94—when there really was such a seemingly endless font of creativity and ingenuity, and the music was still underground enough so as not to be over-commercialized and bastardized. But with the exception of track 6, tracks 1 through 9 on this album ended up being *totally* uninspiring snoozers. Like, not even my favorite synthesizer sound from this time period, the Korg M1's Organ Preset 2 (famously featured in songs like Crystal Waters' "Gypsy Woman"), could save any one the tracks that it got used on here. Just simply some of the most boring beats I've ever heard in my entire life 🥱😴.
But then, after toiling through this maddeningly dry dance desert, I finally found the oasis in the end: We Are One's "Birds & Whales," an absolutely weirdly satisfying trance stew that's like nothing I've ever heard before. From the minds of a duo called High Lonesome Sound System and New York's very own Keoki comes a song with ingredients that should sound like they would clash, but surprisingly end up complementing each other extraordinarily well. It almost defies all logic and rational explanation, but these guys made a song that's acidic, tribal, *chiptune-y,* and, oh, yeah, it also ladles in tons of tropical guitar too, provided by someone who calls themselves Dagga Transmission; and they managed to make it all sound so quirkily irresistible 😌.
So, I absolutely hated this album 90% of the way through, but then everything turned around with this terrific find to kick off my summer, thus ultimately making this whole listening experience worth it. Hopefully other northern hemisphere dwellers end up lacing their season with this completely under-the-radar early 90s bit of gold too; it's never appeared on any other mix or comp besides this one, as far as I can tell 😊.

hi! I was wondering if you would be OK with sharing what resources you use to make the lonely audio edits? I'm new to audio editing and don't really know how to track down resources yet! if not that's OK!! also sorry if you've got this question before have a nice day!!
Of course, I’d be happy to! So I’m not entirely sure how RQ edits it, but I do know they use audacity to edit which is what I primarily use and what I’m gonna assume you’re using.
A general backing track for the Lonely is very easy to do! It’s literally just ocean sounds, wind, and maybe some rain if that takes your fancy. If the character is moving about you’re of course gonna wanna use footsteps that have been recorded in sand. Any more complicated movement might require some imrpov, I’ve lost the actual editing track but when I made my big podfic and Jon falls down in the sand I think I originally tried the sound of a beanbag being hit pitched down? Which sounded shit and I replaced with something else but that’s just an example. If you don’t have a specific place to get sounds yet, I’d recommend freesound.org, ripping stuff from youtube sound effect comps (as long as they have stuff about the license in the description) or taking stuff from the BBC free sound archive (Though you can’t use those for stuff you intend to make profit from)
https://freesound.org/people/AldebaranCW/sounds/132029/ Then you’re gonna wanna overlay all your audio with this track for the tape. Obvs you’re gonna wanna cut off that piece at the start but something it took me an embarrassing amount of time to realise is there’s two click at the end and one of them sounds Bad and I didn’t realise for ages RQ cuts it out to make it sound nicer. I know RQ also uses an equalizer for their TMA audio? The telephone one, but I personally don’t bother with that because..... I do not understand equalizers yet. Also notable is that all sounds in TMA come from a mono track as opposed to stereo, since tape recorders are mono! With the exception of the music, because it’s not diegetic. I ignore this though because I can’t be bothered for simple edits but if you’re going for authentic then there’s the option.
For the actual Lonely effect, which seems to be more a symptom of being Lonely rather than being in the Lonely, because it’s on Peter and Martin’s voices and not Jon’s, I am.. Struggling to remember what I did so I’m gonna mess around on audacity for a bit and see.
Best I can tell you’re gonna wanna start with echo. The time delay and decay factor are entirely up to you and what sounds best to your ear, though I’d say start small (I used 0.5 and 0.25) and if it doesn’t sound right work up from there. Then you’re gonna want to go to classic filters and use any of the three presets in there just to give it a sense of disconnect by being muffled, and you can just play around with the settings until it’s something you like. I layered it on twice just for effect. And then I added some reverb, once again just messing around until something sounded good. I didn’t want it to actually sound like he was in a big room because there shouldn’t be reverb on a beach, but it added a nice effect when used minimally.
There’s something I can’t quite figure out how to recreate and it’s there’s this kind of.. I can only describe it as a drag, to Peter and Martin’s voices? It kind of buzzes and it’s not the echo. It’s similar with Gerry’s ghost voice it’s like. See I get this sense of real visuals from the concept of it, it’s like, y’know the glow around a neon light tube? I still can’t quite figure that out just from reverse engineering 159 so sorry I can’t be of help with that part.
Oh and if you’re using your own audio and don’t know this yet, remember to use noise reduction, but you can look up a tutorial for that to save this post getting longer. Hope that helps, and thank you for asking, it was really fun to have to go “Wait, how did I do that” and I love trying to figure out how podcasts too their own stuff too.

Free Vst Effects Pack
I guess you would have to agree with me that the best way to polish your vocal recording or a vocal sample is to sprinkle some effects, just like the way you would sprinkle a reasonable amount of ingredients on your food. If done right, it sounds delicious right, yum yum 😉
Improve your projects with quality free vst instruments & effects for download. Vst presets / patches and free synth vst plugins available for download. Vst4you: Big Source Of Free Vst's Loops And More Good Stuff To Start Create Music. 2Packs From last 2 successful fx alien loops releases, we are giving youopportunity to buy 2 packs.
Our list of the 55 best free VST plugins encompasses tons of categories, namely: best Guitar VSTs, best Synth VSTs, best VST plugins for vocals, bass VSTs best drum VSTs and a horde of slick effects – that one can download for FREE!
IZotope Ozone Imager. The Ozone Imager is an essential free VST plugin for trap beats. As the name suggests, this is an imaging tool you use to control your track's stereo width. To make a professional sounding track, you must control your stereo width. Commonly, your low frequencies are narrow, in mono, while you typically place your higher frequencies wide.
Vocal effects are no exception to the ingredient perspective, you need to add a reasonable amount of effects to make them sound lively, and enjoyable to the listeners.
Best Free Drum VST My mother always told me “march to the beat of your own drum”, but I guess she was wrong, because I found a bunch of really good free drum vsts. Amongst them, is the T.REX 606, a classic sound that could have easily cost hundreds of dollars, but for some reason is free. Best Free Synth VST Plugins Dexed by Digital Sub Urban Dexed is a Free multi platform and multi format frequency modulation Synth which is based on, or closely modeled to, the Yamaha DX7. You can download it here.
Don’t get me wrong, I ain’t saying you should stack effects upon effects on your vocal samples, too much of everything is bad. That said, let us look at the best free awesome VST effects plugin in the music production scene.
Let’s ride on…
Page Contents
5.) g200kg – KeroVee
10.) MGF – TimeWarp
1.) AegeanMusic – PitchProof
If you haven’t heard of PitchProof, then, you are definitely missing out, this is like the secret tool I use on Vocals but it wasn’t even developed for Vocal, it was actually designed to work on monophonic signals such as guitar solos, but I’ll give you a tip on how I have been using it:
You don’t want to apply it in realtime, what you should do instead is to first select the key of the harmony, then you turn the Blend knob all the way to the right; wet e.g:
Export the vocal result, add whatever effects plugins you gat on your toolbox (vocal, flangers, etc) to spice up the pitched vocal, and then stack it on top of the original vocal. Boom, you have something unique!
Note: You don’t have to always push it all through the wet side as this might cause artifacts, just experiment and stick with what works for you.
You can even export more vocal, and maybe this time, you can try by reducing the detune knob, anyways, experiment until you get your preferred test.
That said, let’s look at some of the features of PitchProof:
The Blend control knob would let you adjust the level of pitch shift, while the Pitch drop-down menu lets you select pitches like +7 or -7, or harmonies which are intelligent pitch-shift effects.
Moreover, there are also some options at the bottom of the PitchProof plugin which give you the option to switch between stereo and mono; mono could save your CPU, while the stereo option could cause a resource hog if used on multiple inserts.
Transient Fix can be switch on or off to spice things up a little!
Possible Harmony Options:HarmonyInfo2ndDissonant harmonies3rdThe Typical Major/minor Chord Harmony4thThe same as the +5 semitones setting except a few notes are flat.5thThe Same as The +7 Semitones Setting Except the Last Note of The Major Scale Is Flat Making It diminished”.6thA nice-sounding alternative to typical harmony intervals.7thDissonant 7th Chord Sounds.
2.) Auburn Sounds – Graillon
This is an autotune VST plugins designed and developed by Auburnsounds. This plugin is superb in the way it handles pitch correction.
Tumblr media
It not only supports pitch correction but supports the generation of throat sounds, making octave sounds, enriching, and enhancing vocal expressiveness.
Also, there is a pitch shift parameter that transposes vocals up and down in octaves and semitones.
Features:

3.) JHudStudio – Vocal King
Vocal King helps glue the vocal in a mix, and it comes preloaded cool parameters, that could help in customizing the audio signal of a vocal track.
The Pres Compressor knob helps in bringing out the clarity of a vocal, so, by turning up the gain of the Pres Comp brings out the presence in the vocal along with giving it a smooth compression. On the other hand, the Low cut, Tighten, and the Bass knob compliment the Pres Comp in taking out muddy frequencies without the vocal sounding too thin.
I also love playing with the Crispy knob as it sprinkles some sparkles to the audio signal.
Features:
Help vocals to stand out in a mix by giving them amazing presence, clarity, and compression. Can easily work on any other content.
Acts like are preamp giving the signal a strong boost.
Easy to use interface for fast results.

5.) g200kg – KeroVee
This is a pitch correction VST plugin tool and has strengthened to support natural pitch correction.
This tool is handy and can perform different and various types of voice effects, for example, a conversion of the male voice to a female voice and vice versa.
KeroVee comes bundled with useful parameters for the effectiveness of the auto-tuning process, Parameter includes:
Scale Button: This is for specifying the scale you want to tune. Setting a wrong scale would result in an awful result, in a simple sentence, Know your scale before you go into this one
TuneSpeed: This will allow you to set the speed of correcting the pitch.
Nuance: This is one of the best and lovely parameters, you can use this to set a fine vibrato of the original sound, use this to create all sorts of weird effects.
Amount: Set to zero (0) if you want no correction, setting to 100 will result in full correction of the pitch
and many more parameters like Transpose option, master volume, etc.
System Requirements
A compatible host program that supports the VST formats
6.) Martin Eastwood – Duet
Have you heard those natural double effects in some tracks! Do you wonder how those are created? I guess yes 😉
Let me introduce to you – Duet, a double-tracking effect designed to enhance your audio sample be it vocal or even instruments, Duet is well capable of sparkling them up. The way Duet work is by pitch-shifting both the left and right inputs individually using a novel synchronous overlap and add technique, allowing pitch to be manipulated in real-time while still maintaining the time duration of the audio.
One thing I love about Duet is the way it can accurately create the illusion of multi-voices and adds varied texture to the mix. Experiment with Duet to see how it works.
Note: This is only available for Window
7.) MaxSynths – DSP-2
DSP-2 is designed with an intelligent Dynamic Processor, a 4-band equalizer fixed on vocal key frequencies, a saturator, and a room emulator based on the Schroeder reverberator. DSP is super simple to use and can serve basically all your vocal processing needs, again, experiment and keep experimenting to get the best settings that would soothe your need.
Features:
Intelligent Dynamic Processor (IDP).
4 different automatic operative modes.
Selectable compression ratio.
Saturator with three different operation modes.
EQ fixed on vocal key frequencies.
Room emulator based on the Schroeder reverb model.
Transparent increment of the perceived volume level.
High precision input/output VU-meter.
Low CPU usage.
8.) Distorque – Azurite
Azurite is a vocal effect by Distorque which is built for multi-voice chorus with a focus on rich sounds and versatile controls.
According To Distorque:
My goal in designing it was to make as flexible a chorus as possible without losing great tones and ease of use. The result is an effect that will be handy for producers, guitarists, and glitch lovers alike.
One of the great features of this plugin is the way you can create multiple simultaneous voices. Each of these voices can be further customized with their own delay line that is modulated by a separate LFO. Adding multiple voices leads to a thicker, smoother, and less wobbly tone. It also makes vivid stereo spreading possible with a mono signal.
The voice control helps you to choose how many voices you want for the chorus, e.g one, two, four, or eight.
Features:
Stereo or mono operation.
Colour control emulates vintage analog choruses.
2 band EQ.
LFO tempo sync.
Feedback control allows for flanger sounds.
27 built-in presets.
Delay time from 0.2ms to 200ms.
7 LFO shapes: Sine, Triangle, Sawtooth, Ramp, Exponential, Inverse Exponential, and Random.
Spread control for a stereo widening of a mono signal.
Control randomizer.
Other controls: Depth, Speed, Wet Mix, Output, Separation, Dry Delay.
Note: This is only available for Window
Download Azurite Win 32 VST / Win 64 VST
9.) TerryWest – EasyVox
EasyVox contains a bunch of tool for vocal processing, such as:
Dynamic mono vocal compressor/limiter/enhancer
Three bands equalizer
Autogain and Pre-Limiter
Auto Noisegate
Auto Band-off
Three EQ models
Fine EQ option
EQ activity/bypass LEDs
Low-Mid-Hicut
Vocal Doubler effect
Pre in/Post out gain
In/out/reduction meters
Donate To The Developer, It helps him to build more exciting plugins
Note: This is only available for Window
10.) MGF – TimeWarp
Last on our list is Timewarp by MGF, which is a vibrato effect with 2 LFOs which can pan the pitch modulation amount for a stereo effect.
Features:
Vst Effect Plugins
Sine, Triangle, Saw and random waves with control over the shape and smoothing.
Optional 4x upsampling and a smooth modulation algorithm ensure clean sound with minimal aliasing. Normal quality
saves CPU and sounds brighter but less silky.
2 different interpolation algorithms are available (ALG).
Fast modulation settings possible and encouraged
That is it, Good luck and have fun with music!
Useful Related posts:
Native Instruments MOD PACK takes three classic modulation effects – chorus, flanger and phaser – and adds features never seen before. Each offers exciting new creative possibilities as well as stunningly convincing vintage-style results, making MOD PACK a must-have upgrade from the rest of modulation effects.
Best Free Vst Plugins
Native Instruments Choral: Drawing sonic inspiration from some of the most iconic chorus effects from the past 40 years – including iconic stands and unison synth effects. Add width, movement, sparkle and shimmer to any signal, or take advantage of the new Scatter feedback mode. This avoids unpleasant metallic sounds. Instead, a completely new effect similar to reverb is created. The classic effects contained a small number of settings – On, Off and Type are usually the only controls. Our plugin offers many customizable options. The number of voices can be set gradually from one to three, the sync speed can be manually changed, as well as the modulation speed, volume, mix, delay time, stereo width and feedback.
Free Vst Instrument Pack
Native Instruments Flair: Flips the classic head flanger effect. FLAIR adds a revolutionary new Voices mode that uses multiple delay lines to create custom harmonic flanger layers and resonances. It even has 24 chord settings, offering different chords and note intervals. In addition to revolutionary features, FLAIR is capable of rich tape saturation and pedal flanger, offering all the parameters you’d normally expect, such as tempo-synchronized pitch modulation.
Free Vst Effects Pack
Native Instruments Phasis: Offers endless phasing sounds – adding movement, soul, and creative magic to any signal. PHASIS takes inspiration from the classic phaser but adds powerful new features. For example, the Spread control changes the step spacing of a vocal style effect passage. Ultra Power Mode brings modulation to ultra-high speeds, creating unique FM-esque tones. The plugin adjusts the peak density and Q-factor of the slices in the spectrum and whether it is set to one value, applied in real time or with automation, or reversed with the “Invert” button, “Spread” provides a new effect for both the phasing process and vowel sounds of vocals. With its powerful stereo spread function, advanced sync options and all the controls, what you’d expect from a professional phaser, PHASIS is already a formidable modulation device, but the ULTRA parameter takes the effect to a new area of application. ULTRA boosts the maximum modulation rate from 8.37 kHz to an incredible 477.3 kHz, which generates unusual FM-style effects never heard before and is able to turn even white noise into immersive sound.

okay maybe ill make that post actually.
here’s a quick rundown of how i think heroes could have worked better.
--
im not addressing game balance or gacha stuff. intsys gets money without having to, so why should i be the one who has to do it?
also i lied about it being quick.
surprise.
--
you can only have one playable instance of each hero at a time
duplicate heroes become combat manuals
if you make your only copy into a combat manual, your next obtained copy of that hero becomes a playable instance (still can’t unmake a combat manual)
pro: actively forces more diverse team comps. no more loading your ar team up with the same mythic to get dumb levels of hp and a single stat
con: cant do dumb meme stuff like Oops! All Infantry Launch Heroes
combat manuals function like seals for the purposes of merging and skill inheritance
They’d non-permanent and modular, so you can mix and match to suit your needs
merging and using units for skill inheritance are no longer a commitment, there’s no drawback to playing around to figure out how to approach challenge maps like abyssal GHB/LHB and experimenting is not longer actively discouraged
like honestly what the fuck. why would they punish you for experimenting (it’s so you pull more. thats why)
Seals (and now combat manuals) are assigned on a team-by-team basis
convenient! no more having to navigate through a million menus if you want to use the QP seal on two different units in two different game modes, and no more suffering when you forget to swap it back
uhhh. the way it’d work is that any given character would have a bunch of user-made builds that’d act as presets, and you’d choose a preset when you use them on a team and it’d draw from the pool of manuals/seals with that weapon/skill/etc. until you run out. if you are using, say 3 copies of armor march when you only have 2 sources, it won’t let you start the map
every unit comes with a weapon, assist, special, and three skills (they still have to learn stuff)
doesn’t have to be something they’d actually use
just make stuff more available
remove the level system
like. who cares. you’re never going to use a unit that’s below level 40 unless you’re trying to do some weird bullshit to get around stuff that targets low stats like even pulse tie or whatever it was called
does not provide meaningful progression because you have no reason to use a unit before the level cap if you’re not actively feeding them exp
it’s literally just a pointless time sink that means you can’t use someone right out of the box
sp system stays. more on that later.
remove the iv system
literally only exists to give you a 3/4-4/5 chance of a unit being ‘suboptimal’/less-than-ideal even if you manage to get them
changing ivs is a step in the right direction but it’s now “oops, you got a bad dice roll, grind so your character isn’t suboptimal” instead of “oops, you got a bad dice roll, give us money”
pointless if you cant draw duplicates anyway.
completely revamp the rarity system
all units start at 1*
functions as a ‘uncap system’ instead of a ‘only relevant when youre spending orbs’ system
each level increases the number of inherited skills (combat manuals) you can use by one (up to a max of five)
each level after 1* adds a ‘boon’ to a stat of your choice, up to a max of four
uses materials obtained by playing through maps, but obtained at a rate that isn’t mind-numbingly slow (unlike dragonflowers/grails). maybe this could be what the training tower would drop or w/e
creates actual significant game progression outside of “get orb, spend orb”
combat manuals also have a separate ‘rarity’ system
also uses some in-game material
comparatively more expensive since it’ll do stronger stuff
only goes up to 3*
1* is default, 2* unlocks inheritance of fourth tier skills, 3* allows inheritance of a second skill/weapon/etc. line from that manual
more progression that isnt just number go up
new sp system since some stuff involving it has changed.
still get sp from kills and healing
sp can be spent towards leveling up a skill, weapon, assist, or special slot,
each level alternates between unlocking a new level of the skill that unit has in that slot and unlocking a new level of an inherited skill in that slot, with roughly the same sp cost as in heroes right now
once you unlock everything, sp goes to hero merit or whatever. it shouldn’t be useless
hero merit stays, but it should do something other than give small amounts of feathers that must be manually harvested
dont really care what
kinda leaning towards something more lore-related instead of a gameplay reward?
maybe a few new voicelines? maybe an extra ‘support’ scene? maybe a new map animation or two?
uhhh right we got rid of leveling. throw the 5* lv 40 in there too
stop making new units share a color on banners
seriously
nonseasonal healers also come with a staff learned by default
god this was so annoying
like okay this was pet-peeve level but 1 sp per heal with a cap of 8 per map when mr sword man over there is getting 3 sp per kill with no cap? hated it
you can assign a friend unit of each color
no more Oops! All Greens in VGs
can still only use one unit from a given friend at a time
also make them usable in more modes. like. who cares. its one unit. if the game cant handle one good unit it’s hasn’t been balanced. that’s intsys’ problem not mine
you can spark a focus unit as many times as you want, and on any banner
its dumb to punish f2p people who hoard orbs so they can get merges for That One Unit They Really Love just because whales exist. let them get 20 copies of some awful launch 5* if they really want to
most of the above changes also already disincentivizes or otherwise makes whaling give diminishing returns so like. who cares. nobody loses in this situation
units dont block ui elements when in the top row of a map
self explanatory
why did they do this
bow hinoka this means you
bring back that “everyone does [task], everyone gets [reward]” promo they did like right before they added grails
“fun”
cooperative! heroes needs more community stuff that isnt pvp!
great way to distribute bonus resources
made me actually use different units
you can set one alt of a unit as a costume for another alt of that unit
why not
stole this from gbf
remember that thing where a handful of launch units had a live2d animation the first time you summoned them?
they should have continued that
maybe not for every hero, but like. rateup exclusives maybe? make them extra special
more map objectives
gameplay variety is good
they totally could do “defeat target”, “defend unit”, “defend throne”, “seize throne”, etc. as objectives in the heroes map format and make it not suck
streamline menus
please
technically part of streamline menus but mission progress didn’t need to be a window that interrupts you between/after maps
make it a little notification that pops up to say “killed 10/20 units” and then goes away or whatever
also there’s no reason why missions shouldn’t autocollect the rewards. they should have done that
let me switch between en/jp VAs on a case-by-case basis
i have preferences. im sure other people do too
would’ve been cool but not the end of the world that it didnt happen
might have been licensing issues. idk
have more content that isn’t just “repurposed story maps”, “pvp”, and “procedurally generated event we run every month with minimal changes”
itd be cool to have stuff to do that isn’t something you’ve seen a million times already
i think some people call making that kind of thing “game design”
might add more later. probably not though lol.

EOB Feb 2020 Tour Pedalboards
Tumblr media
Ed at his pedalboard in Chicago on February 8, 2020. Photo by jules.is.tired.
Ed recently finished his album release tour across North America in support of Earth, with a live band consisted of guitarist Ross Chapman, bassist Dishan Abrahams, keyboardist Hinako Omori, and drummer Alvin Ford Jr. Ed picked these musicians to realize Earth in a live context (they didn’t play on the album itself), with a relatively stripped-down setup – at least compared to the expansive studio setup discussed in the last post. The amps are on the small side, and Ed’s using some Fender Acoustasonics, but there’s still a hefty quartet of pedalboards assembled by TheGigRig.com and even some MIDI syncronization. The tour brought Ed the size of venue that he’s rarely played since the 90s, with far more fan interaction than would be possible at a Radiohead show. One result is a wealth of photos that provide endless details of the band’s full setup, so for now we’ll just tackle the pedalboards.

Ed’s signal chain:
TheGigRig.com Three:2:One
RJM Mastermind PBC/10 pedal switcher
BOSS EQ-200
Origin Effects Cali76 Compact Deluxe compressor
Hudson Electronics Sidecar overdrive
Kingsly Page overdrive
Digitech Whammy V pitch shifter
Meris Polymoon delay
Electro-Harmonix Deluxe Memory Man 1100-TT delay
Catalinbread Belle Epoch Deluxe delay
Strymon Timeline delay
Catalinbread Epoch Pre preamp
Pedaltrain Classic 2 pedalboard
The RJM Mastermind is a pedal switcher with 10 loops, and the pedals labeled 1 to 10 are connected to the RJM in that order. At the first show of the tour, the RJM had a “TheGigRig.com” sticker over the name, but this sticker was removed by the second show. This is the first time since 2013 that Ed’s pedalboard hasn’t included a TheGigRig.com G2 pedal switcher, which also has 10 effects loops. Even Ed’s pedalboards for the recording of Earth featured a G2. This makes it likely that the RJM has a benefit specific to live performance – perhaps extended MIDI capabilities.
The TheGigRig.com Three:2:One is most likely used to enable quick switching between guitars. Ed only has cables plugged into two of its three inputs, so the third position is most likely used as a mute switch.
These shows were also the first time Ed publicly used his BOSS EQ-200, Catalinbread Epoch Pre, Meris Polymoon, and Hudson Electronics Sidecar. But Ed previously mentioned the EQ-200 in an interview for the book Pedal Crush: “I’m excited about the new BOSS programmable EQ pedals. The EQing of sound in the studio is key. I love the idea of a pedal that can store EQ settings that you can change mid-song... or even mid-note! I like those places in between, and the movement between each setting.” In the same interview, Ed mentioned using his wah pedal to “sculpt the EQ,” so perhaps it’s unsurprising that this is Ed’s first live board to lack a wah pedal in fifteen years!
The Catalinbread Epoch Pre was also mentioned in Pedal Crush, alongside the Catalinbread Belle Epoch Deluxe delay which Ed has used since 2017. “Catalinbread’s Belle Epoch Deluxe is my favorite-sounding delay pedal, but I’m not sure I can use it live, as I need a tap tempo. The Epoch preamp is fantastic too; it sits right at the end of my chain, before the amp, and makes it all sound proper!” It looks like Ed was able to make the Belle Epoch delay work in a live context, even if it is next to three delays with tap tempo.
In Pedal Crush, Ed also outed himself as a fan of Tubescreamer-based pedals. “I’m pretty late to Tubescreamers, but I love them now.” That said, Ed has used quite a few Tubescreamer variants since the early-2000s, and the Hudson Electronics Sidecar is another addition to that list. The Sidecar is essentially a Tubescreamer with a 2-band EQ, which is more versatile than the single tone knob more offten found on Tubescreamers. Ed hasn’t discussed the Meris Polymoon previously, but it’s hardly a surprise to see him using one given the affection he’s had towards cascading delays since the mid-90s.

Strymon Mobius modulator (labeled “3”)
Strymon Timeline delay (labeled “2”)
Source Audio Ventris reverb (labeled “1”)
Moog EP3 expression pedal
Temple Audio pedalboard
Palmer DMS (Dynamic Mic Switcher)
As with Ed’s pedalboard, the RJM Mastermind is a pedal switcher with 10 loops, and the pedals labeled 1 to 10 are connected to the RJM in that order (even though the labels on the pedals themselves are in reverse order).
*Ross uses some interesting techniques with the Whammy. One is keeping his foot on the Whammy treadle and wiggling it lightly for some subtle pitch variation. Another is turning the pedal’s knob with his foot to glitchily jump between multiple pitches.
**To create dynamic jutters, Ross adjusts the “BPM” knob of this pedal with his foot while holding down the “tap” foot switch.

Source Audio C4 Synth
Empress ZOIA
Future Impact
BOSS OC3 Octave
Hamstead Subspace overdrive
Tech 21 SansAmp Programmable Bass Driver DI
The G2 is a pedal switcher with 10 loops, but the order of the effects in unknown. However, the Polytune is definitely connected to the G2′s Tuner/Aux Out, given that nothing is connected to its output jack. Dishan posted the pedalboard on Instagram on February 3, thanking Dan, Jake, and Joe from TheGigRig.com for their help assembling the board. It looks like the SansAmp might be used primarily for preset tone/EQ options, since nothing is connected to the DI output, but that may just be because this photo is from rehearsals.

RJM Effect Gizmo #1
RJM Effect Gizmo #2
RJM Effect Gizmo #3
The three RJM Effect Gizmos are under the pedalboard, but visible from the three sets of audio jacks sticking out from the back of the board.
It’s worth noting that while Ed, Ross, and Dishan are all using pedal switchers, Hinako is using an RJM MIDI controller. Since the MIDI controller can only send MIDI messages, it does not connect directly to pedals and cannot switch them directly. However, the MIDI controller can switch pedals when connected to a RJM Effect Gizmo (a compact switcher box). In fact, since 2017 Thom Yorke has used a similar setup with an RJM Mastermind GT/10 for his solo tour pedalboard. So what is the benefit of using an RJM MIDI controller instead of the RJM pedal switcher? It allows the user to more easily control a variety of destinations with a single button press. Most likely, Hinako uses the MIDI controller to switch synth presets and other settings in addition to switching pedals, making it much faster to change sounds between or during songs. This is likely the case, since Hinako is using a Kenton THRU-12 MIDI Thru distributor with nine of its twelve MIDI outputs in use, meaning that the RJM is controlling at least nine different destinations.
And although drummer Alvin Ford Jr doesn’t use a pedalboard, he does use a Tama Iron Cobra kick pedal.

Font Manager — Animography Font Manager Font Manager is an After Effects script that allows you create and work with animated typefaces. The UI is very similar to After Effect's Character panel, but has lots of extra functionalities for working with animated typefaces. Font Manager supports kerning, multi-line input and text alignment. This looks like an app that will animate any font you want to use from your own fonts folder (eg: Helvetica, Univers, Futura etc) and the font manager will apply the animation to that animography font. You can do exactly this. Please see this tutorial: This is basically a animography editor for existing and therefore locked/specific fonts. For this specific animated typeface we have rounded up 110 talented animators from all over the world. We asked every animator to pick a glyph and animate it using no more than 4 colors and 25 frames. The animators had complete freedom to work their magic within those limitations. The result is a wide variety of styles and techniques.

Adobe Creative Cloud Photoshop Cc Serial Number
Tumblr media
I had a forum moderator remove your reply so as not to let everyone see your serial number on a public forum like this. If I remember you said you had a serial number version of LR, but you also said you had the Photography Program CC plan for $10/month that includes PS and LR and doesn't use a serial number. Follow these steps to verify that you have an active Creative Cloud subscription. Open the Creative Cloud desktop app. (Select the Creative Cloud icon in your Windows taskbar or macOS menu bar). Select the Account icon in the upper right, and then select Sign out. Photoshop Creative Cloud, which I just subscribed to, is asking for a serial number. Adobe tech support told me to sign out, check connectivity issues, etc, and its not working. I think this is probably connected to an attempt someone made once to install Photoshop on my computer. Welcome to Adobe Creative Cloud. Make anything you can imagine with Creative Cloud apps and services, wherever you're inspired. Download Creative Cloud for desktop. Access everything Creative Cloud has to offer, right from your desktop. From your apps to your work and more, it’s all here. Adobe Photoshop Key Features
Selection choice The Select and Mask dialog box (formerly known as Proper Edge) still contains a quick selection brush. There is now a new tool that you can choose to isolate the object: in this case, the woman is sitting on the right side.
Customizable string The Image Warp feature has been a useful addition to Free Transformation for years and allows you to use envelope distortion to alter the shape of an object. However, a 3 x 3 grid, which can always be limited, was used. Now known simply as multiplication, it begins with four control handles with Bezier handles on each of the four sides to adjust the direction and magnitude of the war.
New pre-control panels Adobe Photoshop CC Crack has new control panels for patterns, gradients, and shapes that make saving and searching much easier. The graph shows what you got ahead of time. In particular, the Shapes panel provides a better way to select shapes: when you drag them from the panel to a piece of art, a new vector layer containing that shape is created.
Smooth the brush stroke You get a better view with the new smoothing algorithm. When using a mouse, change the smoothing rate for sharper lines. Tool options are available with flow and opacity in the bar.
Exclusive brushes Adobe Photoshop 2020 Crack gets over 1,000 digital brushes from Kyle T. Webster, the only award-winning Adobe Photoshop Free Download illustrator.
Access to Lightroom images Adobe Photoshop Crack searches for Lightroom Cloud services or retrieves your photos directly into Photoshop using the home screen. With the deeper integration of all Creative Cloud photo tables and mobile apps, all your photos are synced and available anywhere.
Overlay computers in smart objects Adobe Photoshop Full Crack layers Composition panel lets you create multiple versions of a work of art in which you can move and inactivate elements between different builds. Layer computers were still supported in Smart Objects, but you had to open the Smart Object in a new window to make changes to switch between them. Layer comps now installed are displayed in the properties window when a smart object is selected. This simplifies the transition between different versions of the visual material.
Better automatic selection The Select Subject command has been extended thanks to Adobe Sensei, the name of the artificial intelligence that Adobe Photoshop Cracked can use to analyze an image and find what you want to choose. In practice, it’s very good at work: in this photo of a car with a complex background, Photoshop chose an almost perfect car. Some minor adjustments still need to be made, but it’s an impressive first step.
Extended Features Window For several versions, the features window has been the point of contact for current level information. Significant improvements have been made to this version with contextual additions depending on the current level and type of tool. Now includes quick actions, eg B. To isolate objects of interest, select a name and remove the background as it appears in the name. Note that the background is not erased, but hidden in a new layer mask. You can correct the errors as follows: B. the missing part of the roof of this car.
Curved pen tool Adobe Photoshop Crack creates faster, easier, and more accurate paths. In Illustrator, tap segments directly instead of changing the Bezier handles, like with the curvature tool. Double tap to switch between stitch types.
Quick share menu Share a flattened copy of your work via email, text, social media, etc. This feature uses local operating system sharing mechanisms, including verified services.
Variable fonts With new font technology from Adobe, Apple, Google, and Microsoft, you can change the weight, height, slope, and more for each supported font.
What’s New in Adobe Photoshop CC Crack
Presets included in previous versions of Adobe Photoshop Serial Key are now called Legacy Presets and are replaced with new presets. To load older presets, go to any of the Presets panel menus and select Load Older Presets.
Use cmd / ctrl + T and start the program (exit Adobe Photoshop Activation Key for free with serial number and restart it).
Note: If you hold down the Shift key, the status of the shortcut icon is inverted. The aspect ratio is preserved.
Adobe Photoshop 2020 Serial Key Object Selection Tool is now the Standard Tool in the fourth area where the Quick Selection Tool was the Standard Tool. Click and hold the Object Selection Tool to display the Quick Selection Tool and Magic Wand Tool, or press the w key to navigate these tools.
Settings> General> Disable splash screen has been replaced by Settings> General> Show splash screen automatically, which makes the splash screen appear automatically when no document is open.
If you receive an error message in Adobe Photoshop torrent on startup stating that the scratch disk is full, you will now see a user interface from which you can select another scratch disk to continue.
Preferences> File Management> Working Directory for Local Cloud Files has been added so that you can select the local directory for associated cloud document files.
Advanced Features
Settings> General> Auto update open documents has been changed under Settings> General> Auto update file-based documents. This determines whether open documents should be automatically replayed based on files updated outside of Photoshop. Cloud documents are not affected by this setting.
In addition to Preferences> General> Use Inherited Free Transform, the Preserve Aspect Ratio shortcut icon is now inserted between calls in the transform options bar (whenever you choose Edit> Free Transform or Adjust ).
Type> Add Fonts from Typekit… has been replaced by Type> Plus from Adobe Fonts.
TOYO COLOR FINDER designs are no longer supplied by default with Photoshop. Contact Toyo Ink for more information on their color libraries.
Note: If the old presets are not loaded, some actions may fail. Solution: load the old presets.

Recording and Mixing:
New for version 10 is VariAudio 3, a revamped iteration of the company’s tool for manipulating the pitch and time of audio. VariAudio 3 now includes the ability to edit at a micro-pitch level for more precise control of a vocalist’s drifts and transitions, and you can adjust the format shift to adjust the timbre of a voice after the fact. You still can’t manipulate polyphonic arrangements this way, but there’s still more on that front. For building complex vocal harmonies, a new Audio Alignment feature helps you sync them all together to a reference track, not just for the start of the audio but for the timing of each phrase. If you find fault with its choices, you can still make manual adjustments.
Instruments and Effects:
Cubase includes eight instruments with a total of more than 3,400 patches between them. Some highlights: Retrologue 2 is a classic subtractive analog synthesizer that now has three oscillators, 24 filter types, eight voices, a sub, and noise oscillator, and a modulation matrix and basic effects section. There are 700 presets, with plenty of thick pads, five distortion modes, analog-style detuning, and fat bass and lead sounds. There’s not enough room here to go into too much depth, but Replicant Pad is straight out of Blade Runner-era Vangelis, while Warming Fireplace has smooth, gradual attacks and decays for a thick layer of analog. There are some great saw wave patches, too, including Rock Monster Saws and Pole Saws, in case you want to cheese out in the 1980s, which I always do.
Cubase Element is a complete music production program that gives you all the tools you need to create, record, edit, and create music in the best quality. And Video Export Render increases the ability to work with video. With the 10.5.12 release, Pro, Artist, and Element users can now export time-encoded MP4 video, which includes 44.1kHz or 48kHz / 16 bit.

By Danny Echevarria | 10/12/2020
I’ve often thought that if I hadn’t decided to pursue music production as a career, the only other thing I might approach with the same level of passion is cooking. Even in my life as a music maker, preparing food is an important part of my day, and something I get a lot of satisfaction from.
I’ve talked to quite a few similar-minded music producers/amateur chefs who not only share those twin passions but agree with me that the two disciplines have a lot in common. Both could be called a fusion of art and science. Both involve bringing together various elements and combining them in a way that showcases their individual strengths, while also creating a whole that is greater than the sum of those parts. Both require a discerning palette, or ear, to make snap decisions on the fly in a process that can be extremely time-sensitive.
Though I could make comparisons like “EQ is like salt,” or “butter and oil are like reverb,” I don’t think those sorts of analogies hold up in all cases. Rather, the similarities between music and cuisine have to do with the spirit with which we approach these crafts. Will this article help producers be better cooks or vice versa? Probably not! Even so, I take inspiration from the time I spend in the kitchen (and at the grill) into the studio, and my hope is that you can find some inspiration there too.
Ingredients Matter
There’s no substitute for working with high-quality ingredients – whether that’s a thick, fatty piece of salmon or a killer vocal take. But that doesn’t mean we need to work with top-shelf ingredients in every instance! In fact, sometimes cheaper ingredients are really what you want: chances are your favorite pizza place is using canned tomatoes, not fresh ones, to make their sauce.
The important thing here is to understand the role each ingredient plays in the recipe. Top-tier ingredients typically need less seasoning and usually deserve to be showcased. Lower-quality ingredients — and instruments, performances, and processing — still have a place in the kitchen, but will require different sorts of treatment, and will often be featured less centrally.
From the Kitchen to the Studio:
Tumblr media
Don’t drown a great vocal in ketchup-y reverb
If your session includes the equivalent of a prime ribeye, make it the centerpiece! Use processing to accentuate its character, rather than trying to transform it — like a subtle rub of salt and pepper before it hits the grill.
If your centerpiece needs to be made from lower grade ingredients – like when a singer struggles to deliver good takes on the mic — seasoning (processing) will play a bigger role, maybe even transforming the part entirely.
Other times, lower quality ingredients don’t need to be masked but will serve a more supporting role. Are you working with pitchy backup vocals? Maybe each track doesn’t need to be tuned and polished — instead, treat the part as a garnish. Let it stay rough and “rustic” to add character.
A Great Recipe Helps … But Only So Much
You could look at websites like this one as being similar to your favorite sites to find recipes – a place where pros share tips and tricks they use in their own kitchens and studios. Learning from people who have honed their craft can absolutely help us make more informed choices, but in reality, it’s hard to replicate the conditions of a recipe writer’s kitchen: maybe you’re missing spices, or the recipe calls for a bone-in cut of meat, but all you have is boneless.
You can’t expect to follow a recipe to the letter if your ingredients or kitchen don’t match the chef’s intention. Great cooks and great producers alike know how to work with the tools and ingredients that they have. Adapting to changing conditions is a must if you expect to get a great result every time.
From the Kitchen to the Studio:
The most important tool in your kitchen and your studio is you! Pro tips and best practices will take you far, but you have to be able to discern when things are working as planned, and when they require a different approach.
Developing the ability to know when and how to adapt to shifting circumstances takes practice, but it’s a crucial difference between a master and an amateur. Don’t expect to call up a plugin preset or slap on some settings you saw in a tutorial video and be done. Use your ears to make sure your mix moves are working as intended, and be brave enough to admit it when they aren’t.
Don’t Overdo It; Don’t Underdo It
Tumblr media
Always there for you when you need it
In cooking, this principle applies to cooking temperatures and times as well as seasoning: overcooking a piece of meat until it’s dry, or undercooking it and leaving bits raw; forgetting to add salt to make other flavors pop; drenching a stir fry in soy sauce, and then hoping that smothering it in sriracha will fix things (don’t act like you haven’t been there).
In the studio, you could apply this concept to everything from doing too many or too few takes, to leaving in ugly, muddy resonances, or dialing in too much compression. Just like you can’t “unbake” a burnt loaf of bread, you can’t “uncompress” a track that got slammed during tracking; similarly, adding salt when serving a dish is not the same as salting properly while preparing it.
From the Kitchen to the Studio:
Stop me if you’ve heard this one (from me), but the only thing that can guarantee you don’t go too far or not far enough is your judgment as a producer. To that end, approaching production with a clear sense of intention can go a very long way.
Know how many takes you need to get a solid comp — and stop there. Continuing to do unnecessary takes can be the sonic equivalent of leaving something in the oven after it’s done, each take getting dryer and more flavorless. Know when processing (like seasoning) needs to be overt and when it needs to be subtle, and learn how to tell when enough is enough.
Context Is Huge
Tumblr media
If you’ve never had this, there’s still time
Remember my point earlier about how your favorite pizza place probably doesn’t use fresh tomatoes? That’s not laziness — the pizza we’re used to is supposed to have the flavor of canned tomatoes. On the other hand, can you imagine ordering a caprese salad and getting a canned tomato slopped onto some mozzarella?
The point here is that there is no absolute “right” or “wrong,” in cooking or production. Sometimes cheap ingredients are crucial, and nicer ingredients might be wasted in the same application. Other times, cheap, low-quality ingredients just taste … cheap, and low-quality.
From the Kitchen to the Studio:
Your favorite plugins, pieces of gear, and mix tricks will never be guaranteed to work equally well in all applications. There’s a reason a vintage U-47 might go for $15k — it’s a great mic — but that doesn’t mean it will sound great on every voice. It will simply be too dark and wooly for some, even if it is a coveted high-end piece of gear. Some voices are going to be better suited to other mics, even substantially less expensive, less “nice” ones. The mark of a good recording isn’t the value of the gear you used, it’s the sound coming out of the speakers.
It Pays To Experiment … But Don’t Ignore Fundamentals
Wild, previously unthinkable stylistic fusions and flavor pairings have become something of a standard in cuisine in recent years. Some of those unlikely combinations may seem to come totally out of the blue, but the ones that really work often follow tried-and-true formulas, even if they are executed in an unconventional way. Pay attention to the root flavors — or sonic elements — being combined, and you can see how fundamental principles are being observed.
Tumblr media
Free your mind and the rest will follow
LA’s Kogi Korean BBQ offers a great example of this idea in action. On the surface, the fusion of culinary styles from different ends of the globe (Korean BBQ and tacos) may seem kind of wild, but consider the fundamental flavors at work.
Tacos: marinated meat, often fire-grilled, served with salsas that add a mixture of sweetness, acidity, and spice.
Korean BBQ: marinated meat, fire-grilled, served with kimchi and sauces that add a mixture of sweetness, acidity, and spice.
The specific ingredients and nuances are different, for sure, but the root flavors at work share important similarities.
From the Kitchen to the Studio:
Every piece of music succeeds or fails on the terms of the genre or tradition it belongs to. If you’re pulling together ideas from opposite ends of the record store, consider what sonic qualities you like most in those influences, and which ones might work together well.
Are you bringing together sounds from one genre that is driving and loud with another that is subtle and dynamic? Or one that is abrasive and noisy with another that is catchy and danceable? Combinations like the ones I just described have surely been done millions of times. The thing the good ones will have in common is a clear sense of what will be rewarding to the intended listener.
Over the course of this article, I’ve mentioned a handful of times that great chefs and producers alike rely on their judgment daily to make decisions that will get the best result out of the ingredients in front of them. Though talent and good taste are certain factors that influence someone’s ability to work at a high level, none of the greats started great on day one.
The ability to know when something is working and when it isn’t, and then to know what to do to fix it, is something that can really only be honed over time, after repeated failures and successes. Even someone else’s proven recipe will have serious limitations in the hands of a chef who isn’t prepared to make those sorts of calls.
The takeaway from this is that real practice in the studio, and finishing projects, are extremely important for any producer or engineer looking to sharpen their skills. There’s no way to tell if your recipe worked if you don’t take a bite (or listen) when it’s done … and you can’t take that bite if you don’t get to “done” in the first place.

Motion Graphics
Test_S01-S02
S01: To start the animation, I combined two of my experiments. The buildings still drop down, but instead of clipping messily over the grass, I have keyframed their path, so they sit smoothly on top as they bounce. After a while, I found it was easier to shy layers so I could work on a few at a time, rather than pre-composing each group of shapes. We used pre-comps in lessons to easily break down instructions, but in my own work it was becoming too confusing to have so many compositions to move in and out of. My workspace was clearer without them, as was my headspace. As for the text, I used the masks again to reveal the stroke of the letters. To improve it, I controlled the brush thickness more precisely and when drawing the mask, I didn’t use curves as they created strange gaps. Instead, I just lots and lots of tiny anchors around the curves. The pre-composition of the traffic from my test file wouldn’t transfer completely to the new project therefore I mostly had to restart it. I still had all the cars, vans, and lorries individually cut onto new layers, so I repositioned and timed their position keyframes, and re-added the null layers that meant the wiggle expressions would alternate between vehicles. Overall all the things I controlled were: Position, Path, Opacity, Stroke Effect, and Wiggle Expression. As I move to the next scene, I want to experiment with even more effect presets for more exciting detail.
S02: In the end, I decided to stick with the transition idea the lecturer gave us, as it was the most effective and time efficient to complete. But I have tried to change it up a bit by having the squares together at the start and then moving them apart as the scale increases. This is a very short scene, acting as more of a filler before a major transition, so I only had to use: Position, Scale, and Opacity keyframes.

Elk still plays Fire Emblem: The Last Promise
Chapter 23: Reasoning
I managed to get my saves off my comp before it crashed! So I’m finally picking this back up.
Chapter 22 LP by Blastinus that I’m using as a guide of sorts
Tumblr media
Amusingly, this preset combat scene apparently still gives weapon XP, or Blazer has an odd sense of humor. Sidenote: this pop-up is accompanied by a version of the LOZ “you got a thing” jungle that I think came from one of the GBA games.
Tumblr media
Siegfried is very pretentious about “oh so you want the enemy to win? Huh? is that it?” and Anakin is like “no dude your army is human, act like it”. Again, I consider Anakin the best protagonist, arguably the only good one.
Tumblr media
Ah, we must be in Hell
(because the snow, you see, and- never mind.)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Huh. I am... actually impressed by Kelik here (this isn’t all the lines, but the highlights of the sequence).
Tumblr media
Siegfired claims to be a knight who know how to protect, then follows up with this. This can be annoying or very, very sad if you think about it too hard - the only way he knows how to protect people is to slaughter any threats (and, uh, in the early chapters he had to be reminded of that).
Tumblr media
“It’s not that I don’t understand, it’s that it’s stupid.” why is this so funny
Tumblr media
I meant to skip ahead to the chapter content but... is Alice wearing a headband under her handkerchief? Odd. I guess it’s warm.
I will say that overall the writing on this opening segment is quite solid and pretty good character-wise to boot.
Tumblr media
Alternately, the Sieg-Shon scene preceeding this was kind of a mess.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Oh yeah, bonus weaponry.
Tumblr media
You know what? This is a pretty good portrait. Blazer did well.
Tumblr media
Unlike other swords, which are used to drive divots into soil for planting- wait.
Tumblr media
I’m borrowing Blastinus’ map. 24 turn time limit, 4 chests, Droppables I very much do not want to miss, and I have to loop up the outside before I can even get in.
i’ve been (re)reading Melth’s minmax Ranking Run of FE7 and it’s actually started to affect my own tactical planning, in that I now have some.
Almost everything on the field has a sword, lance, bow, or tome - all anima tomes, too. So Dark and Anima magic and Lances are the pick of the day.
This post got longer than expected so I’ll outline some main tactical points and then do an actual run post separate.
Droppables: The Emblem Axe, a D-Rank Unlimited-Use axe. It’s held by the Warrior on the upper left there. Silver Sword (Ivan) Brave Lance (Knight). Notably, the Knight ALSO has a Javelin, and if I bait them into switching I can kiss the Brave goodbye, so I need to be careful there. Door Key (Knight) - this Knight will also use it on the door to the north due to a coding glitch. Chest Key (Mage) Angelic Robe (Hero) Lucky Charm Goddess Statue (That General with Cappricio) Drizzle (Halberdier)
Stealables: 2x Vulneraries 1x Elixir
Notable:

Longbow

I think this is a custom tome?

“Hero Balancing” Custom Game server
[Orisa voice] some functionality may still be in beta...
I made some custom game settings as a preset for what I and the Salt Squad™ think that Overwatch’s hero balancing should be like!
If you see a custom game named “Experimental Hero Balancing” or something similar, and the appropriate game mode next to it (QP, Comp, Brawl) you’re welcome to join! They’re open for the public to try, and if you’d like to experiment with some of the hero changes and give feedback concerning the changes, I’d greatly appreciate it.
Don’t forget that you still gain XP for completing a custom game match, so if you’d like to try it out when you’re in the server browser, stop by!
To start, I’ve been taking feedback from my small group of friends, and adjusting accordingly. The changes aren’t perfect, and there’s some things I really wish I could manually tweak.
For example:
I can’t give characters base armor/shields, or otherwise change their base health to armor/shields ratios (IE: I want Zarya’s health to be 500, but I can’t change her shields to be 200, her overall health will always be 250 base/250 shields)
I can’t change the distance of how effective a character’s ability is (Roadhog’s hook, Widowmaker’s grappling hook, Mercy’s Caduceus beam)
I can’t opt to allow a character to do headshot (”critical hit”) damage, adjust headshot damage, or turn it off (ie: letting Ana do headshot damage, but not Roadhog)
Some changes actually result in me needing to use a calculator to make some of the changes I want. And we all know how much I HATE math.
But I hope that these changes will feel fair and help make the game seem more enjoyable. If you’d like to make suggestions for how to make certain heroes feel more fair, you can REPLY to this post, or comment in the match chat when you’re in game!
Hero Balance Server Patch Notes
(under the read more due to length!)
Please note that my math could be incorrect, and some changes may not reflect my intended target for certain values (ie trying to get Widowmaker’s hook cooldown to 8 but it winds up being 9)
Changes as of 04/17/17
General Changes
Total Number of Spectators: 12 Server Type: Public
Quick Play Presets:
You can pick a maximum of 2 of each hero per team! Does not apply to AI characters (so technically you can have 3 anas on a team.)
2 per class limit ie: only 2 offense heroes on a team. Does not apply to AI characters.
Competitive Play Presets:
1 hero limit per team
2 per class limit (you can only have a maximum of 2 offense, defense, tank, and support heroes each)
Capture the Flag Presets:
Receiving damage doesn’t interrupt flag capture
Hero Changes
Ana
Increased Ammo Size (12)
Damage: +17% (should be 70 in game)
Healing: +17% (should be 70)
Projectile speed: +5%
Ana’s original damage/healing output was 80, and blizzard recently changed her to do 60 instead, mainly to deal with the “3 tank meta” and Ana’s powerful healing. To me, it feels like 60 is a bit too much of a reduction, making it harder for Ana to defend herself and heal her team, so I put the healing/damage in the middle. Ideal changes I’d like to make include allowing Ana to do headshot damage, but not to the degree of other snipers, since she’s a support character.
Bastion
-10% Damage Dealt (targeting Bastion’s Sentry mode)
+5% Damage Received
-10% Healing Dealt (intended to target self healing)
Bastion’s ironclad ability is bullshit BUT at the same time, Bastion serves a specific purpose and I didn’t want to nerf him to all hell. Ideal changes I’d like to make are to Bastion’s Sentry Ammo (he has a clip size of 300 since his new buffs) but not nerf Bastion’s Recon ammo. My personal idea is to give bastion players more incentive to play in Recon mode and move around more rather than just camping one spot doing infinite damage and never dying.
D.Va
Increase Defense Matrix Cooldown (target cooldown 5 seconds)
Decrease Defense Matrix Recharge Rate (-10%)
Decrease Defense Matrix Maximum Time (-10%)
The biggest complaint my friends have about DVa’s matrix is how long it can last. These changes will hopefully cause DVa players to use their matrix more conservatively, without feeling like cheating enemy players out of certain abilities that they use.
Genji
-10% Damage Dealt (intended to target Genji’s dragonblade)
-3% Movement speed
+25% Projectile Speed
+25% Ammo (30)
Reduced Genji’s default speed because he probably has the most powerful mobility of all the offense heroes anyways. He can wall climb and double jump already, I think people can make do with a minor nerf to his movement. XD In exchange for nerfing Genji’s damage, I’ve opted to give him higher projectile speed and clip size to compensate, which will hopefully feel a bit fairer. Ideal changes I’d like to make are removing Swift Strike’s recharge from an elimination, or at least giving it instant recharge if Genji deals the final blow to an opponent.
Hanzo
Increased Scatter Arrow cooldown time (intended to be 12s)
Decreased Sonic Arrow cooldown (intended to be 15s)
-15% Damage Dealt (targeting Scatter Arrow)
+25% projectile speed
-3% movement speed
Mainly changes intended to nerf Hanzo’s scatter arrow, but Hanzo also does a ridiculous amount of default damage as well. To give Hanzo players more incentive and ease to hit their targets rather than “spray and pray”, the speed of his arrows has been increased. And due to Hanzo’s mobility (being able to climb walls) his movement speed has been decreased.
Junkrat
-17% Damage Dealt (target: 100 direct damage)
+10% Projectile speed
+20% Ammo (6)
I mainly just did this to decrease the direct damage a bit; but to compensate, he gets 1 extra ammo and a higher projectile speed.
Lucio
-25% Soundwave (Boop) cooldown (3 seconds)
+5% movement speed
Sometimes you just need to keep your enemies away from you :p Also edited his movement speed because of how unfair it is that you could be speedboosting AND amping it up, trying to escape from Symmetra, only to die to her anyway. And we all know I love Symmetra.
McCree
-13% Combat Roll cooldown (intended to be 7 seconds)
-10% Damage Dealt (intended to target main weapon)
+2% movement speed
I feel like the main draw of Offense heroes isn’t only their damage, but their mobiliy as well, and it seems like, in a way, McCree got the short end of the stick regarding this. However, as a tank, it’s really frustrating to take tons of non-headshot damage from McCree, so I tweaked his damage output. I don’t want the damage change to affect McCree’s deadeye, however, so hopefully I can separate them in the future.
Mei
-5% Movement Speed
+10% Projectile Speed (intended target: Right Click)
-20% Health (200HP)
-20% Healing Dealt (intended target: cryo freeze)
+25% Ammo Size (250 Ammo)
It has NEVER made sense to me why Mei has 250 HP as a defense hero so I tweaked it. I also edited her cryo freeze to do the same percentage of healing for her new HP. Also changed her movement speed because why does a character who can slow down and freeze people need to move just as fast? Also increased her projectile speed, mainly because of how long it takes for Mei’s icicle to form, and to give her better survivability with lowered HP, increased her Ammo size to 250.
Mercy
+1% Movement Speed
+25% Ammo Size (25 Ammo)
+10% Projectile Speed
Because I’m a Mercy main, I’m a bit biased :p Changed Mercy’s movement speed a TEENY bit, and changed her ammo and projectile speed so she can better defend herself.
Orisa
-5% Damage Received
+25% Health (500 HP)
+3% Movement Speed
+5% Projectile Speed
Changes to make Orisa actually feel like an effective tank XD I would like to change her Base Health/Armor health ratio to be the same as Reinhardt.
Pharah
-33% Damage Dealt (intended target: 80)
+5% Hover Jet Max Time
-5% Hover Jet Recharge Rate
+20% Jump Jet Cooldown time (12 seconds)
+25% Projectile speed
My friends and I feel like Pharah does too much damage and stays in the air too long as a result of her jump jet buff, so I hope these feel more balanced. To compensate a bit better for this nerf, I’ve increased her projectile speed. An Ideal Change I’d like to make is to give Pharah a small bit of armor (maybe like 50?) since it seems like it’d be a part of her design, and to help her stand a better chance against her hitscan counters. When adding armor to heroes becomes available, I’ll try to increase how much damage she takes.
Roadhog
-15% Chain Hook Cooldown (intended targer: 7s)
-3% Damage Received
+50% Ammo Size (6)
A friend of mine mains Roadhog, so this is super biased for them XD I thought that the Hook cooldown was a bit much, so while not wanting to revert it to its original timing, I put it at 7s. And Roadhog is the squishiest tank, considering he has no Armor or Shields, so I updated how much damage he takes by a tiny bit.
Soldier 76
-20% Cooldown for Biotic Field (12s)
-5% Damage Dealt (meant to target Helix Rockets & Tactical Visor)
-5% Movement Speed
-43% healing (meant for biotic field: 20HP/second
Soldier’s Sprint gives him plenty of Mobility, so I’ve reduced his default movement speed. Also, because Soldier isn’t supposed to be a support, I’ve decreased his healing for his biotic field, but also reduced his cooldown time.
Sombra
+5% healing received (meant to target her healthpack hacks)
+3% Movement Speed
+25% Projectile Speed
+25% Ammo Size (75)
I keep hearing that Sombra needs some better buffs, so I hope these changes do some good :0 I tried to focus more around her mobility and ammo here, rather than her damage. I feel like her speed is part of what makes her such a strong offense.
Symmetra
-20% Photon Barrier Cooldown (8s)
-20% Sentry Turret Cooldown (8s)
-28% Damage Dealt (Meant to target Photon Beam damage)
-2% Movement speed
-20% Ammo size (80)
Listen y’all- I love Symmetra. I really do. I love her new kit. But WHY DID THEY BUFF HER BEAM LENGTH?! I’M SO MAD. I would edit her range if I could, but I can’t, so instead she gets damage and ammo nerfs. Also because of how unfair her beam feels to high mobility characters like Lucio and Pharah (who are supposed to counter her) I’ve reduced her movement speed as well.
Torbjorn
+200% Build Turret Cooldown Time (intended to be 10s)
-29% Damage Dealt (intended to target turret)
+33% Ammo Size (24)
-20% Projectile speed
Widowmaker
-33% Grappling Hook Cooldown (8s)
My friend mains Widowmaker and she really wanted this change, and I feel like it’s fair!
Winston
+5% damage dealt
I heard Winston needs a buff too, so I just made this change to start out with to see how it goes!
Zarya
+25% Health (500HP)
+5% Projectile Speed
+3% Ult Generation
I main Zarya so I’m biased- I wanted her to have 250 base health (bc how come Mei has by default it but Zarya doesn’t?!) I can’t edit her health to shield ratio, and her health actually affects her barriers’ health as well as well, unfortunately.
Zenyatta
+10% healing dealt
+2% movement speed
+5% Projectile speed
+16% Ammo Size (25)
Same friend who mains Roadhog also mains Zenyatta, so I made some changes I feel will help Zenyatta feel better to play.

My Top 5 Tips on How to Declutter Your Home
Cathy, my wife has been trying to declutter our home for years. I've been the stubborn one and resisted the effort. She finally wore me down. And boy, am I glad she did. Her efforts got us quite a little bounty for stuff that's been sitting around the house gathering dust.
I invited Cathy to share the steps she took to turn our stuff into some nice cash. When the initial declutter was complete, she made over $3,000. She’s the brains and the organizer for these types of projects. For the most part, I’m the labor (and I’m free)!
If you want to learn how to sell things quickly, efficiently, and get the most money for your items, this post is for you.
I'd also recommend you check out one of my blogger friends, Melissa Blevins's post Decluttering – Maria Kondo: Using the Kon Mari Method of Tidying Up.
With that, take it away, Cathy!
How to Declutter Your Home
Since Fred began this blog, I started reading articles from some of the bloggers he's met. Many of them write on how to save, and make extra money,
I remembered all the items in the house we had accumulated over the last 20 years, thinking we would use them again. Or, maybe I would sell them. I finally decided to take the plunge and began selling the household goods we hadn't touched in years.
Craigslist
I started with placing items on Craigslist. After a relatively short time,  I stopped. I found there are many scammers on the site and only a few serious buyers
One scam is the PayPal scam. In it, potential buyers would send me an email asking to place money in my PayPal account. They said they would send someone to pick up the item the next day. They usually had an excuse of being out of town or something.
After being hit several times by the scammers, I received this notice from Craigslist saying:
“Please be wary of distant ‘buyers' responding to your ad! Many sellers receive replies from scammers hoping to defraud them through schemes involving counterfeit cashier's checks and/or wire transfers. These checks will clear the bank, but the person cashing the check will be held responsible when the fraud is discovered. More info on scams can be found at this web address”.
One scammer was very pushy. I finally had to threaten to track them down and turn them in if they didn’t stop emailing me.
Facebook
I decided to try selling the items on the Facebook Yard Sales in different cities around Fairfax County. I started by placing things on the Facebook yard sale site for Reston and Vienna, a town close to Reston. Facebook Market Place covers a broader surrounding area.
I began with small items like the usual decorations, kitchen items, linens, purses, etc. The bags went quick. You have to let kitchen items sit until the right buyer comes along. Sales started becoming very easy to make. Putting stuff on Facebook yard sale from my computer was perfect for me.
The Facebook yard sale is much better than preparing for an actual yard sale. In a yard sale, you drag everything out of the house and wait for people to get there. Whatever doesn't sell (usually a lot of things) you have to haul back into the house or take to Goodwill.
What a pain! Selling online is way better than an actual yard sale.

Tip #1: Take good photos
A good photo of the item is a must, not only one angle but a couple.
Edit your photo for clarity. Make sure the brand name is visible. The lighting should not be blaring on your item. You may need to try a couple of different locations in the house to make it look its best.
Another way for a good photo is to Google your item. Find the exact item. Be sure you’re looking at a replica. From there, copy the image of the picture to place in the add. Most of the time, a replica picture online has lighting that's much better and shows the item more clearly.
Here's a side table bookshelf I sold for $53 (originally purchased for $100). We used it for the last ten years. Someone bought it as soon as I placed the picture showing how to use the shelf.
The first picture is from a copied image online. The second is the actual shelf in front of my fireplace.
Here’s another example:
When Fred's mom passed away. I inherited her collection of teacups. They sat on our shelves for years. We never once used them. Fred is a sentimental person. It's hard for him to let go of things like this. He finally agreed it was time to sell his mom's small collection. So I went to work.
The footed Demitasse Cup & Saucer set Lavender Rose by Royal is a Vintage item from the 1960s. The pictures are image copies. The lighting is perfect, and if you blow them up, you can see the clarity in the photos.
I took the second picture. It’s an Antique Mitterteich Demitasse Footed Cup & Saucer Blue/Gold with small pearls, made in Germany in perfect condition.
You can see the difference! Remember I’ve only been using my iPhone 8 to take the pictures.
Finding the exact item online can be a bit challenging at times. If you copy the image make sure it matches and shows what you're selling.
Declutter Tip #2: Make a detailed description
It's important to write a detailed description of whatever you're selling. I've found the more detail, the better.
One way to find the wording is to Google whatever you're selling. Remember to make sure it’s the replica of the item. If so, there is usually a good description.
Finding your piece can be tedious but taking the time is worth it. That helps you get top dollar and sell the item faster.
Here are a couple of examples:
Footed Demitasse Cup & Saucer Set; Lavender Rose by Royal. Vintage item from the 1960s; Material: Ceramic, Height: 2 3/4 in, Width: 3 1/2 in, Special Characteristics: MONTROSE Bone, and Crafted in England.
That was all I could find on the Mitterteich Demitasse. I was lucky to see that because they are not around any longer. After hours of looking, I found out they made these in Occupied Japan during World War II.
Gorgeous Antique Mitterteich Demitasse Footed Cup & Saucer Blue/Gold. Made in Germany. Perfect Condition.
The buyer who came to purchase the teacups had a collection of over 150. She said they were a perfect match for her collection. When people visit, she serves tea in them. She prides herself that those who come never use the same cup. That was a fun sale.

Declutter Tip #3: Compare your price to a comparable new item
Example:
Like new Schwinn Recumbent Stationary Bike.
Goal Track capability enables a user to set individual exercise goals
20 levels of resistance for a wide range of workout intensity options
High speed, high inertia drive system for easy start-up and smooth, quiet workouts
DualTrack™ 2 LCD screen displays offer increased visibility to programs and goal tracking
22 preset workout programs: 9 profile, eight heart rate control, two fitness test, one quick start
Seat rail slider system with easy adjust lever customizes the fit for each user
Charging USB port to keep phones, tablets or music players at full battery life:
MP3 input to listen to your favorite playlist through in-console speakers. Dimensions are 64 X 27.7 X 50 inches and 300 pounds
New on Amazon $429 or used $290, plus $84 to assemble. We had the bike assembled professionally. We bought it in 2017.
I sold the bike for $280. It was like new. Fred bought the bike for me from Amazon. I found it uncomfortable to ride. We joined a local gym and had pretty much stopped using the bike.
I’m sure you can tell my picture versus the copied image from Amazon. This item sold quickly close to asking price of $300.
Declutter Tip #4: Be patient
A few years ago, Fred and I bought brand new road bikes.
Mine was a Specialized Roubaix Pro II. We had it custom fitted for me. We loved biking together. He’s 6’3″ and me 5’4″. I could never keep up with him on the rides. That was true before and after the purchase of this gorgeous bike. But we still made it work.
Here are a couple of pictures of the bike I loved. It was a 2010 Specialized Road Bike.
You will notice the description is quite detailed, and I was asking the blue book price of $600.Yes, we discovered bikes have a blue book value. Here's what I found online with help from an REI bike expert:
Specialized Roubaix Pro II, 700 x 23c w/Flak Jacket puncture protection. Components Brakeset: Shimano 105; Shift Levers: Shimano 105 Rear Cogs: Shimano 105, 10-speed: 12-27;
Saddle: Specialized Body Geometry Avatar Gel;
Handlebar: Specialized Pro Ergo, aluminum
Handlebar Stem: Specialized Comp-Set, aluminum.
Specialized's Roubaix Comp Compact is a zippy road machine that rides so smoothly and comfortably that you can easily double your mileage. Specialized's Zertz vibration-damping elastomer inserts boost the carbon fiber's inherent road-smoothing qualities, while the back-friendly riding position gives you miles of comfort and control.
Plus, the 20-speed Shimano 105 drivetrain delivers the right gearing for every ride, while the reliable Mavic Aksium wheelset rolls effortlessly and is built to last.
And, this carbon beauty comes with a full complement of Specialized's excellent aluminum components.
Size 29″ or 49cm.
Makes you want to but it right now, doesn't it?
As I mentioned, I‘m 5'4. The representative at Spokes in Vienna did a beautiful job fitting me to this bike. It's a men's bike.
They built this bike for both comfort and speed. I've never ridden a more comfortable bike.
The buyer
I ended up receiving $550.00 for the bike. The cool story is the bike was fitted to me, a 5’4 frame. The bike fits me like a glove. It was a fantastic and comfortable ride for me. We would ride for hours, so it had to be comfortable.
Several people looked at the bike. Most were men, and it was to short for them. I left it on the Market, and Facebook yard sales for almost two months. I thought it would never sell.
On a Friday evening, I received a Facebook message from a gal who was interested and wanted to see it on Saturday. My first question was what is your height. She said 5’4 ½. (I think she could be the one!). The next morning around 11 am, she shows up.
I offered her my helmet, gloves, etc. She mentioned she had just finished an Ironman and was riding a big clunker of a bike. It had a steel frame. She said it was time for her to step it up and purchase a bike more suitable for her competitions. We turned her lose on the bike, and waited, and waited for her to return.
The joyful ride
When she returned from the ride, the look on her face was one of joy. She said she'd really “kicked it out” on the bike; that she loved it and a wanted to take it. As it turns out, she is in the military and works at the Pentagon and bikes to work every day.
It made me very happy to sell the bike to someone I knew would take care of it. I mentioned the bike was always kept inside and serviced each year. I included extra tires for a flat, a specialized tire pump, bike rack for $50, and a little bag to attach to the bike. She was happy, and I was even more pleased. We are friends on Facebook, and she sends me pictures of the bike.
I walked away with $600.00 from that sale, plus enjoyed riding the bike for eight years plus.
When something doesn't sell
Books and magazines will not sell on the Market Place or Facebook yard sales.
We found a local bookstore called 2nd and Charles in Woodbridge. We took ten boxes of books, everything from non-fiction, Christian, self-help, decorating, cookbooks, etc. The bookstore took almost five days to rummage through the boxes. They called with an offer, which we accepted. There were three boxes of the books they didn’t buy. They gave us $75 for the others.
They have a “free bin” on the front sidewalk of the store. We left the other three small boxes of items there. The last thing we wanted was to haul boxes of books back in the house. We were happy to get what we did.
Declutter Tip #5: Watch your ads
On the market, you have to renew the ad every seven days. And that's an excellent time to change the price, wording or even a picture. Sometimes providing an idea of what to do with an item if it’s not obvious already.
For instance, I had a large basket which I placed little blankets in to keep the clutter down in the family room. I mentioned this on the add when selling the basket. The eventual buyer said the idea is what made her want the basket. If small things are not selling like a basket, kitchen item, etc. I will mark it down a $1 or $2, to push it back to the top of the list.
A lot of the items I’ve sold have been the Market Place top picks for weeks. By following the tips, your piece could be a top pick in your neighborhood.
In case you can’t decide what to sell here’s a list of some of the items I’ve sold:
[table id=10 /]
It looks like I’m over $3,000 as of this writing. And I just sold the Vintage Shafford Pitcher, which was collecting dust.
The beautiful thing is the clutter in my home is becoming less. I’m selling items we have not touched in years.
Watching the excitement on the buyer’s face is fun and rewarding. It’s interesting to see how much money I can make on this stuff. It's also fun to see others get excited about the things you're discarding.
Final thoughts
It's Fred here with some closing thoughts.
I can't tell you how little patience I have for this kind of thing. If it were up to me, things would likely never get sold and still be taking up space. I've never seen anyone as patient and detail oriented as Cathy with this kind of thing. She's persistent. And she's a tough negotiator. I've watched her over the past few months get better and better at it.
Since my office is at home, I'm the one that handles the transaction end of the deals. She's right about how joyful many of the buyers are.
Last week, a guy came to by an old TV from us for $30.00. He came to the door while his son (probably nine or ten years old) stood outside and watched. You could see how excited the son was. Though he didn't say, the dad was likely buying the TV for his son.
The woman who bought the teacups was a real jewel. She and her husband have a very successful landscaping and nursery business. I remember the conversation Cathy had with her on the phone. I heard her asking Cathy what else she had to sell. She ended up buying $160.00 worth of stuff.
She sent Cathy a text to tell how much she loved one particular item. I never dreamed we could get that kind of money out of things that sat for so long and, for which we had no use. And I'm grateful to Cathy for having what it takes to do this and sharing her strategies with all of you.
I hope you found it helpful. If you did, let Cathy know in the comments below.
Now it's your turn. Have you decluttered your house? If so, did you sell things? Give them away? A combination? Let us know in the comments below.

Guitar Compressor Pedals | Top 12 Best Compressor Pedals for Guitar
What is a Guitar Compressor Pedal?
Guitar compressor pedals are effects processors that reduce the dynamic range of the input signal, meaning that the natural dynamic inconsistencies that are apparent in any Guitarist’s playing are reduced. A bass compression pedal is useful for both live performances and within a recording studio environment.
Analogue vs Digital Guitar Compression Pedals
Guitar compressor pedals have traditionally used analog circuitry, and whilst most still do, as it provides a very natural sounding compression, the advancements in digital audio emulation have been exemplary, and therefore some pedals such as the Boss BC-1X actually uses digital circuitry as it’s known to reduce static noise that is caused by the analog circuitry.
However, for some, this noise creates a depth to the sound and adds character. I advise that you take a look and listen to all of the video demonstrations that we’ve supplied following each processor review.
What Does a Guitar Compressor Pedal Do?
As we’ve previously discussed, a compressor pedal for guitar guitars will help limit the dynamic range of the input signal, outputting a more limited signal.
The outputted signal is determined by a number of settings on the interface itself, which the user can adjust accordingly; The inputted settings usually specify the upper and lower dB range of inputted signal to which if this is surpassed, the signal will either be boosted (if it’s lower than a certain dB level) or limited (if it’s louder than a certain dB level).
The style of music played will also play an important factor into determining the level of compression applied, with styles such as Pop/Rock being renowned for over-compressing.
These guitar compression processors are usually used alongside other guitar effects pedals, i.e guitar loop pedals, but are placed further along in the signal path, to compress the overall signal after all other effects have been introduced.
When to use a Guitar Compressor Pedal
These pedals are typically used within a live performance setting, allowing a band to gain a balanced sound, with all instruments using compressors. Although these processors can be used within a recording studio, they are usually not, since every studio will have rack-mountable compression units which provide ultra high-quality signal compression, suitable for most instruments.

Customer Review Rating
The Nux Masamune Pedal has received an average rating of 5* out of 5 stars from 1 Amazon customer review – Read these reviews here.
Summary
The Nux Masamune is certainly an interesting pedal, it is named after the legendary swordsmith ‘Masamune’ of the Kamakura period, from 1185-1333. To the Japanese, the name Masamune is synonymously linked to the meaning of high-quality and finesse, making an incredibly suitable name for Nux’s pedal.
The Masamune pedal itself is a blend of two processors in one physical unit. On one side it is a guitar compressor pedal and on the other, it’s a boosting unit.
From a usability perspective, the pedal’s interface layout is very simple, with the compression settings being laid out on one side, and the booster settings being on the other side. Not only this, but the compressor and booster can be engaged/disengaged separately with the use of two separate footswitches on the front of the unit.
The Compressor section comes with the following parameter controls, to allow for in-depth personalization, which includes ‘Komp Level, Sustain, Blend and Clip Controls’.
The Booster section comes with the following parameter controls, which includes ‘Boost Level, Drive and Hi-Cut Controls’.
Additionally, the unit has multiple ways in which the signal can be routed. I’ve featured a diagram below highlighting how the interface settings co-relate with the appropriate signal routing options that are available to the user/guitarist.
Additionally, the Masamune unit also has external footswitch input, which allows for control of the unit from a different location, especially useful in an on-stage environment.
What would we improve?
Ok, so it’s clear the Nux have really done themselves proud with this unit, as it comes with a lot of useful features. However, one aspect that we think would be very useful is a memory-bank function, which saves presets for quick referral.
Additionally, it would be good to see Nux attempt to gain more feedback for the unit, especially on Amazon, as there is only 1 review currently.
Who is this pedal for?
This unit is for any guitarist who is looking for a guitar compressor pedal which also features boosting functionality, within a mid-price range. We’ve reviewed some of Nux’s other products, and we know that they’re high quality and provide immensely good value. So we don’t think you have much to lose by choosing this unit.
However, before you decide, take a look at the video demonstration of the Nux Masamune in action below:

Customer Review Rating
The Xotic SP Compressor pedal has received an average rating of 4.5* out of 5 stars from over 107 Amazon customer reviews – Read these reviews here.
Summary
The Xotic SP Compressor Pedal is another unit which is marketed towards the more mid-range/premium-priced market.
The unit itself is particularly small in size, and incredibly lightwieght despite it having a good build quality, making it a suitable addition for any guitarist’s pedalboard… Particularly the guitarist who seems to be struggling on space (which is 90% of them)… We know that you much prefer your guitar loop pedals and guitar synth pedals over a compressor, but it’s important that you have a good quality compressor at the end of your signal chain.
Ok, so we’ve talked about the physical features of this pedal, but what exactly is ‘under the hood’ of this unit. Well, the internal circuitry is based on the famous Ross Compression Circuit, which has…
“long been admired as one of the finest compressors produced.” – Ross Compression Circuit Information Source
Therefore, even before looking at the video demonstration of this compressor unit in action, you know that it provides a high-quality compression… And the hugely positive Amazon rating ratio shown above also demonstrates this.
The unit has three compression settings, which can be switched between via the control switch on the front of the interface, allowing you to achieve a subtle compression to a heavily compressed ‘squashed’ sound.
What would we improve?
This pedal sounds fantastic and is incredibly portable for any guitarist. The only downside is that presets cannot be saved…. But after all, this is an analog pedal, and if we had to choose between memory patch functionality or fantastic sound quality, we would choose the latter all of the time!
Who is this pedal for?
This compressor pedal is definitely for the guitarist who’s after an ultra-high quality compression unit, capable of subtle compression through to providing a very squashed sounding output. Alongside this, the other selling point is the fact that this pedal is very small, and is perfect for the guitarist who has minimal room to spare.

Customer Review Rating
The Donner Ultimate Comp Guitar Compressor has received an average rating of 4.2* out of 5 stars from over 183 Amazon customer reviews – Read these reviews here.
Summary
The Donner Ultimate Comp is a guitar compression processing unit that is marketed towards the budget-priced consumer. At just $37, this is one of the cheaper pedals featured within our list, but is that the only USP that this pedal has, or is there something more than just it’s price is a reason why you should buy it? Let’s have a look!
As always, before we go into depth about the key features of this pedal, let’s talk a little about the brand. Donner was founded in 2012 as a music equipment brand, aimed to be marketed towards the consumer who had less money to spare. They primarily create mini-sized guitar effects pedals, and over the last several years, that has become their niche within the industry.
Ok, so let’s now talk more about the “Donner Ultimate Comp” unit! Well, as you can gather, this is Donner’s effort in providing a quality compression pedal for guitarists, at an affordable price.
The pedal itself is rather simple to operate, having three main operational knobs which control the output level, compression level and tonality. Additionally, the interface also features a switch for slight EQ modification, allowing the user to choose between ‘normal’ and ‘treble’, with the treble setting making obvious adjustments to the output signal, emphasising upper-register frequencies.
Alongside the other features of this pedal, it also provides True Bypass, meaning that you won’t need to worry about the pedal interfering with your guitar signal when disengaged. Instead, it will allow for minimal interference when both engaged or disengaged.
What would we improve?
Hmm, well we would have personally liked to see user-saveable presets, but we fully understand the restrictions, with this being a budget-priced analog pedal. However, considering the price-tag we really don’t expect that to happen, as it would directly affect the price! And this unit’s price is it’s USP.
Who is this pedal for?
This guitar compressor is definitely more suited towards the guitarist who’s looking after the dollars! Being priced so low, we imagine that this will attract musicians who are either simply looking for an extremely cheap pedal that they can use for the odd gig, or a musician looking for a backup compressor unit.
None-the-less, take a look at the video demonstration of the Donner Ultimate Comp in action below to see if this compressor is suited to you:

Customer Review Rating
The JOYO JF-10 pedal has received an average rating of 4.1* out of 5 stars from over 1916 Amazon customer reviews – Read these reviews here.
Summary
The JF-10 is JOYO’s attempt at creating a budget-priced guitar compression pedal. How exactly does it fare against similarly priced competitors… Well, let’s first acknowledge the mass of positive feedback on Amazon, which is certainly a good sign.
JOYO is a fairly new music equipment manufacturing company based in the UK, establishing themselves in 2014. With that being said, they’re making a good impact within the budget-priced guitar equipment market.
One particular selling point of this pedal over other similar priced units, is the fact that it includes an internal 9v battery, which means that it doesn’t require a power supply to be operated, assuming that you have charged the battery previous to its use. However, we would highly recommend that you purchase a 9v power supply, as this is not included, as the battery will require charging.
Not only this, for live performances or occasions in which you don’t want to rely on the reliability of the device’s internal battery, you may want to plug the device in for 100% of its operation.
What would we improve?
As we usually say with the budget-priced guitar effects pedals that we feature within out lists, we tend to not make any improvement suggestions, as the USP is clearly its price, and any modifications to the functionality will be highly price sensitive.
Who is this pedal for?
Similarly to the Donner Ultimate Comp, and other compressor pedals that are within this price range, it is marketed towards the guitarist who wants a highly affordable, small-sized, compressor unit.
We’re particular fans of this compressor unit, and this is because it sounds fantastic! But don’t just take out word for it, we have a video demonstration directly below.

The Boss CS-3 has received an average rating of 3.9* out of 5 stars from over 67 Amazon customer reviews – Read these reviews here.
Summary
The CS-3 is a compression/sustainer processor built by none other than the legendary guitar effects pedal manufacturer Boss.
Before talking about the features of this unit, let’s quickly touch upon why this brand has achieved their legendary status, and what they bring to the guitar effects pedal industry.
So for those who don’t know much about Boss, they have been operating since 1976, and they are in fact a division of the Roland Corporation. Since this time they have seen it all, from analog to digital, and the mass of editions of each effects pedal along the way, as they add customer-requested features to models. The fantastic thing about this company is that they listen to their target market (I.E You) and hence, they’re always working on ways to make their products better… Meaning that you can have full confidence in knowing that you’re going to receive a product that has been tried, tested and products complete satisfaction, assuming you get the newest mode of course .
Now, let’s talk about the Boss CS-3. It’s a compressor/guitar sustain pedal which is part of the CS-Series and as you might of guessed, it in its third edition, of a long-timeframe of improvements, as you can see below:
Boss CS-1 (Issued from 1978 – 1982) [Ran on Photocoupler Technology]
Boss CS-2 (Issued from 1981 – 1986) [Ran on Voltage Controlled Amplifier Technology]
Boss CS-3 (Issued from 1986 – Present, with minor adjustments since then) [Runs on Voltage Controlled Amplifier Technology]
As you can see from the customer reviews, this sustain/compressor pedal really is popular, and for good reason… Why? Well other than the refined sound, it comes with a 5-Years Manufacturers Warranty, so it’s extremely popular with professional touring/gigging musicians through to hobbyists.
What would we improve?
Ok, so some people would say that the Boss pedals are a little ‘clunky’ looking. However, we want to eliminate that argument and in fact justify why it doesn’t need improving. Boss pride themselves on providing a 5-Years Manufacturers Warranty, and the reason why they can do this is simple! Their guitar pedals are built like tanks, and the CS-3 is no different. So we want ‘clunky’ because we want it to last!
Who is this pedal for?
The Boss CS-3 is definitely for the guitarist who wants a high-quality sustain/compression effect, at an affordable price considering the wealth of experience that this brand provides, getting you that excellent tone. As we’ve explained, these pedals are reliable, and so if you’re after a pedal that won’t give up the ghost whilst you’re on-stage, the Boss CS-3 is your best hope!

Customer Review Rating
The Boss CP-1X has received an average rating of 4.3* out of 5 stars from over 9 Amazon customer reviews – Read these reviews here.
Summary
The Boss CP-1X is a compressor unit which utilizes Multi-Dimensional Processing (MDP) Technology. This technology analyses several aspects of the input signal, in real-time, and then responds by optimizing the digital processing for the source (SoundOnSound).
One of the main advantages of using this kind of pedal, which utilizes MDP, is the fact that it can provide large amounts of compression without sounding overtly unnatural.
Even though this unit incorporates more advanced technology, it is still built like a traditional Boss guitar pedal, with the thick metal chassis, making sure that it won’t get damaged… And to prove that Boss is confident about this design and build of this unit, it also comes with a 5-Year Manufacturers Warranty,
What would we improve?
Ok, so the technology behind this pedal is fantastic, and one of the reasons why this digital pedal sounds so realistic. Therefore we simply cannot improve anything with regards to it’s sound quality.
Who is this pedal for?
This guitar compressor unit is ideal for the guitarist who’s looking for a unit built to withstand years and years of gigging/live shows and recording sessions without risk of breaking. Boss are known to build pedals that keep on going, and therefore if you want ultra-high quality compression combined with reliability, this may be the unit for you!

Summary
The FCP2 by Kokko is another budget-priced addition to our list of guitar compressor pedals. The pedal itself is only $26, making it the second cheapest unit featured on the list.
The unit itself is fairly easy to function, as it has three control knobs on the front of the interface, controlling Sustain, Level and Attack.
Additionally, the unit has all-analog circuitry, meaning that you can achieve that warm analog sounding compression, which is a particular requirement for some guitarists. And with it providing True Bypass functionality, you can be sure that it won’t interfere with your guitar signal when disengaged… Which is especially important with compression pedals being usually placed towards the end of the signal chain.
Other than this, the unit is fairly basic, but one must expect this given that it is little more than $25.
What would we improve?
Similarly to all of the other budget-priced units featured on this list of guitar compression pedals, we simply don’t think it would be beneficial to outline improvements as most would directly affect the purchase price, which is the USP for these highly affordable pedals.
However, when comparing this against the similarly priced JOYO JF-10, it’s clear that the JF-10 includes a battery and can, therefore, be used without needing to be plugged into a power supply all the time, whilst in operation… Where as the Kokko FCP2 requires a power supply to operate.
Who is this pedal for?
This particular compression pedal is for the guitarist who’s on a shoestring budget, so to speak. However, when taking into account the 4.0* Amazon rating from over 100 reviews, we think that it’s certainly not a bad unit to “take a chance on”.
For anyone who’s looking for a compressor unit within this budget price-range. We advise that you take a look at the JOYO JF-10, since as we’ve mentioned above, it includes a battery, unlike the Kokko FCP, which requires a power supply.
None-the-less, for most, it comes down to how the pedal sounds, so take a look at the video demonstration of the Kokko FCP2 in action below:

Summary
The Rowin Comp (A unit which is very similar to the Donner Ultimate Comp) is a guitar compression processing unit that is marketed towards the budget-priced consumer. At just $29.99, this is the second cheapest pedal featured within our list, but is that the only USP that this pedal has, or is there something more than just it’s price is a reason why you should buy it? Let’s have a look!
Rowin are a music company that is renowned for producing incredibly affordable guitar effects pedals, and it’s clear that the Rowin Comp is another addition to their company’s list of decent products… With it averaging a 4.2* rating from 5 Amazon reviews.
Ok, so let’s now talk more about the “Rowin Comp” unit! Well, as you can gather, this is Rowin’s effort in providing a quality compression pedal for guitarists, at an affordable price.
Similarly to other budget pedals, well we would have personally liked to see user-saveable presets, but we fully understand the restrictions, with this being a budget-priced analog pedal. considering the price-tag we really don’t expect that to happen, as it would directly affect the price! And this unit’s price is it’s USP.
However, we would also have liked to see that it includes a battery, similarly to the equally budget-priced JOYO JF-10… But it doesn’t… Which means that it requires a constant 9v power supply.
However, when comparing this against the JOYO JF-10 which features an internal battery and some great customer ratings, we would advise that readers look more into the JF-10 as opposed to the Rowin Comp.

Customer Review Rating
The Empress Effects pedal has received an average rating of 4.6* out of 5 stars from over 20 Amazon customer reviews – Read these reviews here.
Summary
The Empress Effects Compressor unit is truly a premium-priced, state of the art compressor for guitar. The unit itself is actually handmade in Canada, and features an all-analog signal path, meaning that it provides a nice warm tone.
It’s clear from the reviews of this compressor alone, that it provides a high quality compression effect, with guitarists being willing to spend over $200+ in order to purchase it.
Now, another reason for this high price is because of the interface parameters which you have access to modify, which include the input level, attack, release, mix and output level… So you have the ability to really customize every part of the compression process!
Additionally, the pedal also features a 3 toggle switch, where compression ratios can be chosen and switched between 2:1, 4:1 and 10:1… So you have the ability to add a subtle, mid and severe compression to your guitar’s sound.
Another nice feature of this unit is the fact that it includes a side-chain output, so that you can possibly trigger other processors within the signal chain, which for creative purposes, is simply a nice touch!
What would we improve?
It’s apparent that this unit has a lot of functionality, and therefore we wouldn’t like to suggest adding more (such as EQ) as it may be somewhat overwhelming for a guitarist to handle. Therefore, we like this unit just as it is!
Who is this pedal for?
This unit is most certainly for the guitarist who has some spare money to spend on a ultra-high quality analog compressor unit. We imagine that this kind of processor would attract professional/gigging guitarists, who also require a unit for recording (where getting the exact guitar tonality is extremely important).
Therefore if you’re extremely picky about your guitar sound, and want to have a range of parameter controls to provide you with creative/artistic options, the Empress Effects Processor may be for you!
However,  take a look at the video demonstration of the Empress Effects Compressor in action below:
In conclusion, what Guitar Compressor Pedal do we recommend?
As always with the music effects equipment lists at Sustain Punch, we like to accommodate for every reader! Twin Turbos Make This Daily-Driven C10 One Powerful Pickup
It started with a click and ended with a bang. The click was when Tim O’Neil placed an eBay bid on the 1975 Chevy C10 stepside you see before you. The bang was the twin turbocharged muscle truck he ended up with.
Originally built in a single car garage by a southern California fabricator, the truck was shipped to O’Neil’s Sacramento, California home promptly after purchase. It ran and drove as promised, but soon problems begun rearing their ugly heads. “I bought it on eBay and the truck turned out to be a mess,” said O’Neil–an always-unfortunate, but ever-too-common tale.
When the transmission went nuclear, its innards becoming ‘outards,’ O’Neil put the truck back on the car hauler and shipped it to JMS Racing Engines in El Monte, CA, where Mike Johnson and in-house fabricator and mechanic, David Wade, took their turns at working out the kinks and perfecting the truck.
The first step was to ditch the totaled trans and replace it with a Hughes Transmissions 4l80E. The new unit was more than up to the task of handling the truck’s turbocharged output and utilized a torque converter that was custom-tailored to the engine’s unique power band.
The engine, which was originally built by JMS, is based on a Dart Machine cylinder block filled with forged pistons, forged connecting rods, and a forged crankshaft. It displaces 350ci and is more than up to the abuse of twin turbos. In many applications, leaving the crankshaft stroke conservative allows for a longer connecting rod and more meat above the top piston ring land–a common trick to “boost-proof” an engine. A turbo-spec camshaft from COMP cams and Trick Flow 190cc cylinder heads move boosted air into the cylinders, while fuel control comes courtesy of a FiTech controller.
The under-hood piéce de résistance is a Banks Power twin turbo kit. It features twin, turbochargers set at 9psi, a precision cast aluminum intake, and cast-iron exhaust manifolds. While a considerable spend at $6,832.22, it’s an extensive kit that has a tremendous amount of engineering and dyno testing behind it. “The cast-iron exhaust manifolds have way better heat capacity than headers, said Johnson.” You don’t have gasket problems.” Also, according to Banks website, for the boost level the kit is set at out of the box, an intercooler is not necessary as they turbos are run in their efficiency range so as not to overheat the output air.
With an incredibly conservative tune, and only 9 pounds of boost running through the engine, the truck churned out 445 horsepower to the tires, though getting a reading on the rollers was a challenge since the truck is an Olympic athlete at burnouts. After buttoning up a bevy of additional mechanical faux pas from the previous build, the team at JMS sent the truck back to central CA where O’Neil immediately began racking up miles.
There are those that will scoff at the conservative boost number, and of course, there’s plenty more left in the JMS-built mill, but that’s not the point. “With an air-to-air intercooler or methanol injection, I could add more power to the engine,” said O’Neil. “But there isn’t much reason because it lights up the tires as is. It’s a driver and a studly muscle truck”
The underpinnings of the stepside only further the “ultimate-cruiser” theme. A Heidts suspension with modern rack and pinion steering resides up front, while a Heidts 4 link rear suspension channels as much power to the ground as possible. A Currie 12-bolt equipped with a limited slip and 3.42 gears routes torque and horsepower to white-lettered BFG Radial T/As. The truck is equipped with coilovers and Wilwood brakes at all four corners to make sure it handles and stops as good as it looks. Inside, a stock-themed interior is complimented by and ididit column that looks the part and makes steering action buttery smooth. The only interior nod to the trucks’ sleeper-like performance is a FiTech EFI Controller hidden in the ash tray.
Rather than chase records and reaction times, O’Neil prefers to simply drive and enjoy the truck. “I daily drive it,” he said. “It works well and it has everything a cruiser needs.” The boxes for air conditioning, power steering, power brakes, and air conditioning are all checked. According to Johnson, on a 100mi-plus test drive, the truck easily averaged 14 mpg with the cruise control set at 80mph. “It has everything you could want from a new truck, in an old truck,” says O’Neil. “It’s the perfect Power Tour cruiser,” an event he has on his list of “must-dos.”
Tech Notes
Who: Tim O’Neil What: 1975 Chevrolet C10 Stepside Where: Sacramento, California
Engine: The engine in O’Neil’s truck is a 350ci small-block Chevy based on a Dart Machine block. The rotating assembly consists of a Manely crankshaft, Manely H-beam connecting rods and Icon forged pistons. A pair of Trick Flow 190cc cylinder heads move air into the engine while a COMP turbo-spec cam works the valves. Fuel injection duty is handled by a FiTech EFI system that is mated to a Banks Power cast-aluminum intake manifold.
Power Adder: Twin, equally sized turbochargers from Banks Power deliver 9 pounds of boost to the engine. The kit (PN 21103) includes every nut and bolt to install the twin snails on a small-block Chevy engine and is preset at 9psi (though it will support up to 1,100 horsepower). One of the perks of the kit is cast iron exhaust manifolds which have a better heat capacity than comparatively-thin headers and prevent exhaust gasket failures and other manner of leaks.
Transmission: After a transmission failure early in the truck’s life, Tim and JMS turned to Hughes Transmissions for a stout 4l80E transmission. The unit is built to handle the truck’s turbocharged torque and has a custom-built torque converter that is dialed in to the truck’s unique specs and power band.
Rearend: A Currie Enterprises 12-bolt axle move twist from the driveshaft to the tires. It is packed with 3.42 gears and a limited slip. Try as it might, the turbocharged mill still lights the hides like it’s going out of style.
Suspension and Brakes: The front suspension consists of a Heidts Pro G kit, which adds a rack and pinion and modern, double control arm–style suspension. The rear is also Heidts and utilizes a 4-link to help better plant the tires under acceleration. The truck is equipped with coilovers and potent Wilwood brakes on all four corners as well.
Wheels/Tires: 15in, factory-style rally wheels are shod in BFG Radial TA rubber with raised white letters. The rubber, while an unfair match for the engines output, provides a perfect ‘70s aesthetic to the build.
Interior: The builders decided to leave the interior of the truck fairly stock. Factory-materials were used to bring it back to period correct appearance and the only two hints of performance are an ididit steering column and a FiTech fuel injection controller.
Performance: Tim doesn’t use the car to race. Instead he drives it all around the Sacramento, CA area. And, while there are no time slips to back up the dyno-derived horsepower, we’re assured it can effortlessly annihilate the tires into smoky oblivion.
Special Thanks to: JMS Racing Engines
