Abraham’s Family
Tumblr media
28 Abraham’s sons were Isaac and Ishmael. 29 These are their descendants:
Ishmael’s first son was Nebaioth. His other sons were Kedar, Adbeel, Mibsam, 30 Mishma, Dumah, Massa, Hadad, Tema, 31 Jetur, Naphish, and Kedemah. These were Ishmael’s sons.
32 Abraham also had sons by Keturah, his slave woman. They were Zimran, Jokshan, Medan, Midian, Ishbak, and Shuah.
Jokshan’s sons were Sheba and Dedan.
33 Midian’s sons were Ephah, Epher, Hanoch, Abida, and Eldaah.
These men were the descendants of Keturah.
Isaac’s Descendants
34 Abraham was the father of Isaac. Isaac’s sons were Esau and Israel.
35 Esau’s sons were Eliphaz, Reuel, Jeush, Jalam, and Korah.
36 Eliphaz’s sons were Teman, Omar, Zepho, Gatam, and Kenaz. Also Eliphaz and Timna had a son named Amalek.
37 Reuel’s sons were Nahath, Zerah, Shammah, and Mizzah.
The Edomites
38 Seir’s sons were Lotan, Shobal, Zibeon, Anah, Dishon, Ezer, and Dishan.
39 Lotan’s sons were Hori and Homam. Lotan had a sister named Timna.
40 Shobal’s sons were Alvan, Manahath, Ebal, Shepho, and Onam.
Zibeon’s sons were Aiah and Anah.
41 Anah’s son was Dishon.
Dishon’s sons were Hemdan, Eshban, Ithran, and Keran.
42 Ezer’s sons were Bilhan, Zaavan, and Akan.
Dishan’s sons were Uz and Aran.
The Kings of Edom
43 There were kings in Edom long before there were kings in Israel. These are the names of the kings of Edom:
Bela was the son of Beor. The name of Bela’s city was Dinhabah.
44 When Bela died, Jobab son of Zerah became the new king. Jobab came from Bozrah.
45 When Jobab died, Husham became the new king. Husham was from the country of the Temanites.
46 When Husham died, Hadad son of Bedad became the new king. Hadad defeated Midian in the country of Moab. Hadad’s city was named Avith.
47 When Hadad died, Samlah became the new king. Samlah was from Masrekah.
48 When Samlah died, Shaul became the new king. Shaul was from Rehoboth by the Euphrates River.
49 When Shaul died, Baal Hanan son of Acbor became the new king.
50 When Baal Hanan died, Hadad became the new king. Hadad’s city was named Pau. Hadad’s wife was named Mehetabel. Mehetabel was Matred’s daughter. Matred was Mezahab’s daughter. 51 Then Hadad died.
The leaders of Edom were Timna, Alvah, Jetheth, 52 Oholibamah, Elah, Pinon, 53 Kenaz, Teman, Mibzar, 54 Magdiel, and Iram. This is a list of the leaders of Edom. — 1 Chronicles 1:28-54 | Easy-to-Read Version (ERV) The Holy Bible, Easy-to-Read Version Copyright © 2006 by Bible League International. What is your favourite verse or verses?
28 The sons of Abraham; Isaac, and Ishmael. 29 These are their generations: The firstborn of Ishmael, Nebaioth; then Kedar, and Adbeel, and Mibsam, 30 Mishma, and Dumah, Massa, Hadad, and Tema,
Explain in your own words what you just read:
The opening verse of the Books of Chronicles indicates something of their focus. We know that Adam and Eve actually had three sons by name (Genesis 4:1-2, 4:25) plus many other unnamed sons and daughters (Genesis 5:4). Yet in this first verse we read nothing of Cain or Abel; only of Seth. This indicates that the Chronicler was inspired by God to make a selective genealogy for a specific purpose.
Commitment / what will i do : I will focus historically on King David and his dynasty after him

EOB Feb 2020 Tour Pedalboards
Tumblr media

Ed recently finished his album release tour across North America in support of Earth, with a live band consisted of guitarist Ross Chapman, bassist Dishan Abrahams, keyboardist Hinako Omori, and drummer Alvin Ford Jr. Ed picked these musicians to realize Earth in a live context (they didn’t play on the album itself), with a relatively stripped-down setup – at least compared to the expansive studio setup discussed in the last post. The amps are on the small side, and Ed’s using some Fender Acoustasonics, but there’s still a hefty quartet of pedalboards assembled by TheGigRig.com and even some MIDI syncronization. The tour brought Ed the size of venue that he’s rarely played since the 90s, with far more fan interaction than would be possible at a Radiohead show. One result is a wealth of photos that provide endless details of the band’s full setup, so for now we’ll just tackle the pedalboards.

Ed’s signal chain:
TheGigRig.com Three:2:One
RJM Mastermind PBC/10 pedal switcher
BOSS EQ-200
Origin Effects Cali76 Compact Deluxe compressor
Hudson Electronics Sidecar overdrive
Kingsly Page overdrive
Digitech Whammy V pitch shifter
Meris Polymoon delay
Electro-Harmonix Deluxe Memory Man 1100-TT delay
Catalinbread Belle Epoch Deluxe delay
Strymon Timeline delay
Catalinbread Epoch Pre preamp
Pedaltrain Classic 2 pedalboard
The RJM Mastermind is a pedal switcher with 10 loops, and the pedals labeled 1 to 10 are connected to the RJM in that order. At the first show of the tour, the RJM had a “TheGigRig.com” sticker over the name, but this sticker was removed by the second show. This is the first time since 2013 that Ed’s pedalboard hasn’t included a TheGigRig.com G2 pedal switcher, which also has 10 effects loops. Even Ed’s pedalboards for the recording of Earth featured a G2. This makes it likely that the RJM has a benefit specific to live performance – perhaps extended MIDI capabilities.
The TheGigRig.com Three:2:One is most likely used to enable quick switching between guitars. Ed only has cables plugged into two of its three inputs, so the third position is most likely used as a mute switch.
These shows were also the first time Ed publicly used his BOSS EQ-200, Catalinbread Epoch Pre, Meris Polymoon, and Hudson Electronics Sidecar. But Ed previously mentioned the EQ-200 in an interview for the book Pedal Crush: “I’m excited about the new BOSS programmable EQ pedals. The EQing of sound in the studio is key. I love the idea of a pedal that can store EQ settings that you can change mid-song... or even mid-note! I like those places in between, and the movement between each setting.” In the same interview, Ed mentioned using his wah pedal to “sculpt the EQ,” so perhaps it’s unsurprising that this is Ed’s first live board to lack a wah pedal in fifteen years!
The Catalinbread Epoch Pre was also mentioned in Pedal Crush, alongside the Catalinbread Belle Epoch Deluxe delay which Ed has used since 2017. “Catalinbread’s Belle Epoch Deluxe is my favorite-sounding delay pedal, but I’m not sure I can use it live, as I need a tap tempo. The Epoch preamp is fantastic too; it sits right at the end of my chain, before the amp, and makes it all sound proper!” It looks like Ed was able to make the Belle Epoch delay work in a live context, even if it is next to three delays with tap tempo.
In Pedal Crush, Ed also outed himself as a fan of Tubescreamer-based pedals. “I’m pretty late to Tubescreamers, but I love them now.” That said, Ed has used quite a few Tubescreamer variants since the early-2000s, and the Hudson Electronics Sidecar is another addition to that list. The Sidecar is essentially a Tubescreamer with a 2-band EQ, which is more versatile than the single tone knob more offten found on Tubescreamers. Ed hasn’t discussed the Meris Polymoon previously, but it’s hardly a surprise to see him using one given the affection he’s had towards cascading delays since the mid-90s.

Meris Hedra
Strymon Mobius modulator (labeled “3”)
Strymon Timeline delay (labeled “2”)
Source Audio Ventris reverb (labeled “1”)
Moog EP3 expression pedal
Temple Audio pedalboard
Palmer DMS (Dynamic Mic Switcher)
As with Ed’s pedalboard, the RJM Mastermind is a pedal switcher with 10 loops, and the pedals labeled 1 to 10 are connected to the RJM in that order (even though the labels on the pedals themselves are in reverse order).
*Ross uses some interesting techniques with the Whammy. One is keeping his foot on the Whammy treadle and wiggling it lightly for some subtle pitch variation. Another is turning the pedal’s knob with his foot to glitchily jump between multiple pitches.
**To create dynamic jutters, Ross adjusts the “BPM” knob of this pedal with his foot while holding down the “tap” foot switch.
Dishan Abrahams’s Pedalboard

Malekko Diabolik fuzz
Source Audio C4 Synth
Empress ZOIA
Future Impact
BOSS OC3 Octave
Hamstead Subspace overdrive
Tech 21 SansAmp Programmable Bass Driver DI
The G2 is a pedal switcher with 10 loops, but the order of the effects in unknown. However, the Polytune is definitely connected to the G2′s Tuner/Aux Out, given that nothing is connected to its output jack. Dishan posted the pedalboard on Instagram on February 3, thanking Dan, Jake, and Joe from TheGigRig.com for their help assembling the board. It looks like the SansAmp might be used primarily for preset tone/EQ options, since nothing is connected to the DI output, but that may just be because this photo is from rehearsals.

RJM Effect Gizmo #1
RJM Effect Gizmo #2
RJM Effect Gizmo #3
The three RJM Effect Gizmos are under the pedalboard, but visible from the three sets of audio jacks sticking out from the back of the board.
It’s worth noting that while Ed, Ross, and Dishan are all using pedal switchers, Hinako is using an RJM MIDI controller. Since the MIDI controller can only send MIDI messages, it does not connect directly to pedals and cannot switch them directly. However, the MIDI controller can switch pedals when connected to a RJM Effect Gizmo (a compact switcher box). In fact, since 2017 Thom Yorke has used a similar setup with an RJM Mastermind GT/10 for his solo tour pedalboard. So what is the benefit of using an RJM MIDI controller instead of the RJM pedal switcher? It allows the user to more easily control a variety of destinations with a single button press. Most likely, Hinako uses the MIDI controller to switch synth presets and other settings in addition to switching pedals, making it much faster to change sounds between or during songs. This is likely the case, since Hinako is using a Kenton THRU-12 MIDI Thru distributor with nine of its twelve MIDI outputs in use, meaning that the RJM is controlling at least nine different destinations.
And although drummer Alvin Ford Jr doesn’t use a pedalboard, he does use a Tama Iron Cobra kick pedal.

God-breathed.
to instruct, to encourage, to correct, and to give hope. to illuminate the sacred treasure of grace.
this is what the Scriptures do, and a point that Paul makes in writing a Letter to Timothy with Today’s chapter that includes a warning:
And know this: in the last days, times will be hard. You see, the world will be filled with narcissistic, money-grubbing, pretentious, arrogant, and abusive people. They will rebel against their parents and will be ungrateful, unholy, uncaring, coldhearted, accusing, without restraint, savage, and haters of anything good. Expect them to be treacherous, reckless, swollen with self-importance, and given to loving pleasure more than they love God. Even though they may look or act like godly people, they’re not. They deny His power. I tell you: Stay away from the likes of these. They’re snakes slithering into the houses of vulnerable women, women gaudy with sin, to seduce them. These reptiles can capture them because these women are weak and easily swayed by their desires. They seem always to be learning, but they never seem to gain the full measure of the truth. And, just as Jannes and Jambres rose up against Moses, these ungodly people defy the truth. Their minds are corrupt, and their faith is absolutely worthless. But they won’t get too far because their stupidity will be noticed by everyone, just as it was with Jannes and Jambres.
You have been a good student. You have closely observed how I have lived. You’ve followed my instructions, my habits, my purpose, my faith, my patience. You’ve watched how I love and have seen how I endure. You have been with me through persecutions and sufferings—remember what they did to me in Antioch? In Iconium and Lystra? I endured all of it, and the Lord rescued me from it all! Anyone wishing to live a godly life in Jesus the Anointed will be hunted down and persecuted. But as for the wicked and the imposters, they will keep leading and following each other further and further away from the truth. So surely you ought to stick to what you know is certain. All you have learned comes from people you know and trust because since childhood you have known the holy Scriptures, which enable you to be wise and lead to salvation through faith in Jesus the Anointed. All of Scripture is God-breathed; in its inspired voice, we hear useful teaching, rebuke, correction, instruction, and training for a life that is right so that God’s people may be up to the task ahead and have all they need to accomplish every good work.
The Book of 2nd Timothy, Chapter 3 (The Voice)
Today’s paired chapter of the Testaments begins the first chapter of First Chronicles that describes the Family Tree on garden earth beginning with Adam, then from the flood when earth was repopulated:
[Israel’s Family Tree: The Trunk]
God created the first person, our forefather, Adam. His lineage descended nine generations until the flood: Seth, Enosh, Kenan, Mahalalel, Jared, Enoch, Methuselah, Lamech, and Noah. Our ancestor Noah had three sons: Shem, Ham, and Japheth. From these, three distinct nations arose.
[The Japheth Branch]
The sons of Japheth fathered the nations north of Israel. They were Gomer, Magog, Madai, Javan, Tubal, Meshech, and Tiras. 6 The sons of Gomer were Ashkenaz, Diphath, and Togarmah. 7 The sons of Javan were Elishah, Tarshish, Kittim, and Rodanim.
[The Ham Branch]
Three sons of Ham fathered the nations south of Israel. They were Cush (the Ethiopians), Mizraim (the Egyptians), and Put (the northern Africans). Noah condemned Ham’s fourth son, Canaan, whose descendants we conquered. The sons of Cush were Seba, Havilah, Sabta, Raama, and Sabteca; the sons of Raama were Sheba and Dedan. Cush fathered Nimrod (the first hero on earth). Mizraim fathered the people of Lud, Anam, Lehab, Naphtuh, Pathrus, Casluh (from whom the Philistines descended), and Caphtor. Canaan was the forefather of our eastern neighbors: Sidon (his first son), Heth, the Jebusites, the Amorites, the Girgashites, the Hivites, the Arkites, the Sinites, the Arvadites, the Zemarites, and the Hamathites.
[The Shem Branch]
Shem fathered the Semitic nations. His sons were Elam, Asshur, Arpachshad, Lud, and Aram. Aram fathered Uz, Hul, Gether, and Meshech. Arpachshad fathered Shelah, and Shelah fathered Eber. Eber had two sons, Peleg (whose name means “divided” because the earth was divided during his life) and his brother, Joktan. Joktan fathered Almodad, Sheleph, Hazarmaveth, Jerah, Hadoram, Uzal, Diklah, Ebal, Abimael, Sheba, Ophir, Havilah, and Jobab.
Our ancestry descended nine generations directly from Shem: Arpachshad, Shelah, Eber, Peleg, Reu, Serug, Nahor, Terah, and finally Abram (whom God renamed Abraham). Our ancestor Abraham, who formed our people’s initial covenant with God, fathered two sons: Isaac and Ishmael.
[The Family of Abraham]
Ishmael fathered Nebaioth, then Kedar, Adbeel, Mibsam, Mishma, Dumah, Massa, Hadad, Tema, Jetur, Naphish, and Kedemah.
Abraham also fathered sons by a concubine, Keturah: Zimran, Jokshan, Medan, Midian, Ishbak, and Shuah. Jokshan’s sons were Sheba and Dedan. Midian’s sons were Ephah, Epher, Hanoch, Abida, and Eldaah.
Abraham’s second son, Isaac, fathered two sons: Esau (the ancestor of Edom) and Israel (our ancestor).
The sons of Esau were Eliphaz, Reuel, Jeush, Jalam, and Korah. Eliphaz fathered Teman, Omar, Zephi, Gatam, Kenaz, and by Timna, Amalek. Reuel fathered Nahath, Zerah, Shammah, and Mizzah.
Seir fathered Lotan, Shobal, Zibeon, Anah, Dishon, Ezer, and Dishan. Lotan (whose sister was Timna) fathered Hori and Homam. Shobal fathered Alian, Manahath, Ebal, Shephi, and Onam. Zibeon fathered Aiah and Anah. Anah’s son was Dishon, who fathered Hamran, Eshban, Ithran, and Cheran. Ezer fathered Bilhan, Zaavan, and Jaakan. Dishan (son of Seir) fathered Uz and Aran.
[The Edomite King List]
These men were kings in Edom long before our ancestors reigned in Israel. Bela (the son of Beor) ruled the city of Dinhabah. When Bela died, Jobab (the son of Zerah of Bozrah) succeeded him. When Jobab died, Husham (a Temanite) became king. When Husham died, Hadad (the son of Bedad who crushed Midian in the field of Moab) succeeded Husham and renamed the city Avith. When Hadad died, Samlah of Masrekah succeeded him. When Samlah died, Shaul of Rehoboth by the Euphrates River succeeded him. When Shaul died, Baal-hanan (the son of Achbor) became king. When Baal-hanan died, Hadad ascended to the throne. Hadad named his city Pai. His wife’s name was Mehetabel, the daughter of Matred and granddaughter of Mezahab. When Hadad died, the monarchy crumbled and Edom was ruled by chiefs: Timna, Aliah, Jetheth, Oholibamah, Elah, Pinon, Kenaz, Teman, Mibzar, Magdiel, and Iram.
The Book of 1st Chronicles, Chapter 1 (The Voice)
my personal reading of the Scriptures for Thursday, december 31 of 2020 with a paired chapter from each Testament of the Bible, along with Today’s Psalms and Proverbs
A post by John Parsons about the temporal and the eternal:
The Hebrew word for "world" or "age" is olam (עוֹלָם), which is derived from a root verb (עָלַם) that means "to conceal" or "to hide." God "hides" His face from us so that we will seek Him, and that means we must press through ambiguity to earnestly take hold of divine truth. Centuries before the time of the philosopher Plato, King David proclaimed that there was a "divided line" between the realm of the temporal world and realm of the hidden and eternal world. The temporal world is finite, subject to change, yet pointed beyond itself to an eternal world, which was the source of real significance, meaning, and life itself (2 Cor. 4:18). Therefore King David said, בַּקְּשׁוּ פָנָיו תָּמִיד/ bakeshu fanav tamid: "Seek His face at all times" (Psalm 105:4). Note that the numerical value for the word "fanav" (i.e., "His face") is the same as that for the word "olam." When we truly seek God's face (i.e., His Presence) we are able to discern the underlying purpose for our lives.
The ancient Greek version of the Torah (i.e., the “Septuagint” or LXX) translates this verse as, "Seek the LORD and be strengthened; seek His face through everything (διὰ παντός)." Unlike Plato, however, who "saw through" the temporal world and regarded it as less than real, King David understood that how we live within the intersection of these two realms reveals our inner character of faith -- and therefore our ultimate destiny.... Loaded with Blessing
“Blessed be the LORD, who daily loadeth us with benefits, even the God of our salvation. Selah.” (Psalm 68:19)
As we come to this year’s end, it is salutary for the believer to think back over the days of the year and to meditate upon his blessings. He may, indeed, have experienced defeats and losses, disappointments and injuries in great number. If he is honest with himself, however, the Christian will always have to acknowledge that his blessings far outweigh his burdens. God “loadeth us with benefits,” and is even working in and through all the trials and hurtful things together for our good (Romans 8:28).
In our text verse, the words “with benefits” have been supplied by the translators. Some might, therefore, conclude that the verse could mean that God is daily loading us with burdens instead of benefits. The context, however, assures us that the emphasis is really on His blessings. For that matter, even a burden can become a blessing if we take it as a gift from God for our spiritual benefit.
Therefore: “Bless the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits” (Psalm 103:2). “In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you” (1 Thessalonians 5:18). “Rejoice in the Lord always: and again I say, Rejoice” (Philippians 4:4).
He has given us “life, and breath, and all things” (Acts 17:25). Far more importantly, He is “the God of our salvation.” Whatever else we have, or don’t have, in this life, we have the great gift of eternal life, through faith in Christ and His finished work of redemption. We have it every day of the year and are daily ready to meet the Lord, whenever He calls. Each day we have the indwelling presence of His Spirit, the illuminating guidance of His Word, the daily provision of all real needs, and the assurance of His love. He has surely loaded us with benefits! HMM

Genesis 36
Genesis 36
1 This is the genealogy
Of Esau, who is Edom. 2 He,
Esau, took his wives from the daughters
Of Canaan: Adah from the daughters
Of Elon the Hittite, and then
Aholibamah, daughter of
Anah, who was the daughter of
Zibeon the Hivite again,
3 And Basemath, Ishmael's daughter,
Sister of Nebajoth. 4 Now her
Son, son of Adah and Esau
Was Eliphaz, and Basemath
Bore Reuel. 5 And no psychopath,
Aholibamah bore Jeush,
Jaalam, and Korah in her rush.
These were the sons of Esau who
Were born to him in Canaan's land.
6 Then Esau took both his wives and
His sons, and all his daughters too,
And all the persons of his house,
His cattle and all them that browse,
And all his goods which he had gained
In Canaan's land when it had rained,
And went to a country away
From his brother's, that's Jacob's, sway.
7 For their possessions were too great
To live together in one state,
And the land where they lived as strangers
Could not support stock without dangers.
8 So then Esau lived in Mount Seir,
(Esau is Edom), to be freer.
Like Abraham and Lot, two brothers could
Not live together for the weight of wealth.
So it was not hate nor the lack of health
That separated two men in the wood.
You give, Beloved, gifts of diverse regards
To keep brothers apart, lone beacons on
The deeper darkness that precedes the dawn.
Soon evidence of both is strewn in shards.
And yet their households both were full and great.
It was not a lone dervish separate
That each became. But separation in
Love and friendship, though it is never sin,
Leads to the rumours of hostility.
Beloved, from all such rumours set me free.
9 This is the genealogy
Of Esau, father of the free
Edomites living in Mount Seir.
10 These were the names of the yet freer
Sons of Esau: Eliphaz son
Of Adah Esau's wife begun,
And Reuel son of Basemath
The wife of Esau not in wrath.
11 And the sons of Eliphaz were
Teman, Omar, Zepho demur,
Gatam, and Kenaz. 12 Now there was
A concubine of Esau's son
Eliphaz named Timna who was
Mother of Amalek his son.
These were Adah, Esau's wife's sons,
With all their grace and benisons.
What multitudes of names suggestive, O
Beloved! Adah, adorned but with the show
Of being swarm, is also known as fragrance.
The names reach out to both great faith and vagrance.
Eliphaz, My strength's God, looks like it might
Be gold instead of strength. Who knows what night
Hides in the holy family. The friend
Of God, Reuel, has no sons here to tend
That heritage of Abraham, but gold
For God and strength are making five all told:
The south in Yemen, speech, a watch and wait,
The puny, and the side. I flee from hate
To Yemen, restraint for my concubine
And warlike rush to You and to Your wine.
13 These were the sons of Reuel:
Nahath, Zerah, to end the spell
Shammah, and Mizzah. These would tell
Esau's wife's Basemath's sons well.
The four gates to You, My Beloved, are wrote
In four names that Reuel's children quote.
The first gate, Nahath, is the calm of law,
In which the soul before Your throne in awe
Bows to its Master in perfect submission.
Zerah expresses the next gate's position,
Enlightenment of love, a rising star
To guide the longing heart to where You are.
Awareness is the third gate, devastation
Is its name, that with sudden protestation
The soul sees all things as You wish to see.
The devastated fields turn into fear
That melt into well watered earth with tear
And then in all their splendours cease to be.
14 These were Aholibamah's sons,
Esau's wife, daughter of Anah,
Who's a daughter of Zibeon's.
And she bore these sons to Esau:
Jeush, Jaalam, and last Korah.
15 These were the chiefs of Esau's sons.
The sons of Eliphaz, the firstborn
Of Esau: Chief Teman, not worst born,
Chief Omar, Chief Zepho, Chief Kenaz,
16 Chief Korah, Chief Gatam, and when as
Last Chief Amalek. These were chiefs
Of Eliphaz in Edom's fiefs.
They were all the sons of Adah.
17 These were the sons of Reuel,
Esau's son: Chiefs Nahath, Zerah,
Chiefs Shammah, and Mizzah befell.
And these were the chiefs of Reuel
In the land of Edom for life,
Sons of Basemath, Esau's wife.
18 These sons of Aholibamah,
Esau's wife were: Chief Jeush, Chief
Jaalam, and at last Chief Korah.
These were the chiefs of every fief
Who came from Aholibamah,
Esau's wife, daughter of Anah.
19 These were the sons of Esau, who
Is Edom with sons not a few,
And all of these sons were their chiefs
In all their villages and fiefs.
20 These were the sons of Seir the Horite
Inhabiting the land with more right:
Lotan, Shobal, Zibeon, Anah,
21 Dishon, Ezer, Dishan in manner.
These were the chiefs of the Horites,
Seir's sons in Edom's land and rights.
22 And the sons of Lotan were Hori
And Hemam who were neither sorry.
Lotan's sister was Timna too.
23 These were the sons of Shobal: Alvan,
Manahath, Ebal, Shepho, Onam.
24 These were the sons of Zibeon:
Both Ajah and Anah begun.
This was the Anah who found water
In the desert searching for fodder
For donkeys of his father Zibeon
Not to make of them an amphibian.
25 These were the children of Anah:
Dishon and Aholibamah
The famous daughter of Anah.
26 These were the sons of Dishon: Hemdan,
Eshban, Ithran, and last Cheran.
27 These were the sons of Ezer: Bilhan,
Zaavan, and finally Akan.
28 These were the two sons of Dishan:
Uz and his brother called Aran.
29 These were the chiefs of the Horites:
Chief Lotan, Chief Shobal for lights,
Chief Zibeon, and Chief Anah,
30 Chief Dishon, Chief Ezer, Chief Dishan.
These were the chiefs of the Horites,
According to their chiefs and law
In Seir's land and for their mission.
31 Now these were the kings who reigned in
The land of Edom before sin
Set any king to rule the people
Of Israel or raise a steeple:
32 Bela the son of Beor reigned
In Edom, and no one complained
His city was called Dinhabah.
33 And when Bela died, Jobab son
Of Zerah of Bozrah'd begun
To reign there in his place for fun.
34 When Jobab died, Husham of the
Land of the Temanites reigned free
In his place. 35 And when Husham died,
Hadad the son of Bedad tried,
Who attacked Midian in the field
Of Moab, reigned and did not yield.
And his city's name was Avith.
36 When Hadad died, then it was with
Samlah of Masrekah to reign
In his place. 37 And when Samlah'd lain
In death, Saul of Rehoboth-by
The-River reigned in his proxy.
38 When Saul died, Baal-Hanan the son
Of Achbor reigned where he'd begun.
39 And when he died then Baal-Hanan,
The son of Achbor in the canon,
Hadar reigned in his place, the name
Of his city was Pau. The fame
Of his wife was Mehetabel,
Daughter of Matred, who was well
Sired by Mezahab truth to tell.
40 And these were the names of the chiefs
Of Esau, by families and fiefs,
And by their names: Chief Timnah, and
Chief Alvah, Chief Jetheth's command,
41 Chief Aholibamah, Chief Elah,
Chief Pinon, 42 Chief Kenaz, a stele
To chief of Yemen and the south
Teman, Chief Mibzar, 43 Chief Magdiel,
And Chief Iram. As with one mouth
These were the chiefs of Edom's weal,
According to their dwelling places
In their possession, by their graces.
Esau was father we may call
Ancestor of Edomites all.
Belovèd, Ishmael sets the common pace
Found throughout Scripture that the holy race
Must come from twelve fruits on one sacred tree,
Brothers and sons of one great patriarch
Whose faith goes almost to the Pleasure park.
The pace was set, and so twelve there must be.
Behold the mortal genealogy:
Esau's chiefdoms make just eleven told,
While Jacob's sons are always counted, sold,
And bound as twelve, although the tribes are set
At thirteen, count the lists, what do You get?
They juggle Simeon, Manasseh, Ephraim,
Embarrassed with too many. One of them
Give to Esau, or make Yourself cadet!

Gen 35-37
God said to Jacob, “Arise, go up to Bethel and dwell there. Make an altar there to the God who appeared to you when you fled from your brother Esau.” 2 So Jacob said to his household and to all who were with him, “Put away the foreign gods that are among you and purify yourselves and change your garments. 3 Then let us arise and go up to Bethel, so that I may make there an altar to the God who answers me in the day of my distress and has been with me wherever I have gone.”4 So they gave to Jacob all the foreign gods that they had, and the rings that were in their ears. Jacob hid them under the terebinth tree that was near Shechem.
5 And as they journeyed, a terror from God fell upon the cities that were around them, so that they did not pursue the sons of Jacob. 6 And Jacob came to Luz (that is, Bethel), which is in the land of Canaan, he and all the people who were with him, 7 and there he built an altar and called the place El-bethel,[a] because there God had revealed himself to him when he fled from his brother. 8 And Deborah, Rebekah’s nurse, died, and she was buried under an oak below Bethel. So he called its name Allon-bacuth.[b]
9 God appeared[c] to Jacob again, when he came from Paddan-aram, and blessed him. 10 And God said to him, “Your name is Jacob; no longer shall your name be called Jacob, but Israel shall be your name.” So he called his name Israel. 11 And God said to him, “I am God Almighty:[d] be fruitful and multiply. A nation and a company of nations shall come from you, and kings shall come from your own body.[e] 12 The land that I gave to Abraham and Isaac I will give to you, and I will give the land to your offspring after you.” 13 Then God went up from him in the place where he had spoken with him. 14 And Jacob set up a pillar in the place where he had spoken with him, a pillar of stone. He poured out a drink offering on it and poured oil on it. 15 So Jacob called the name of the place where God had spoken with him Bethel.
The Deaths of Rachel and Isaac
16 Then they journeyed from Bethel. When they were still some distance[f] from Ephrath, Rachel went into labor, and she had hard labor.17 And when her labor was at its hardest, the midwife said to her, “Do not fear, for you have another son.” 18 And as her soul was departing (for she was dying), she called his name Ben-oni;[g] but his father called him Benjamin.[h] 19 So Rachel died, and she was buried on the way to Ephrath (that is, Bethlehem), 20 and Jacob set up a pillar over her tomb. It is the pillar of Rachel’s tomb, which is there to this day. 21 Israel journeyed on and pitched his tent beyond the tower of Eder.
22 While Israel lived in that land, Reuben went and lay with Bilhah his father’s concubine. And Israel heard of it.
Now the sons of Jacob were twelve. 23 The sons of Leah: Reuben (Jacob’s firstborn), Simeon, Levi, Judah, Issachar, and Zebulun. 24 The sons of Rachel: Joseph and Benjamin. 25 The sons of Bilhah, Rachel’s servant: Dan and Naphtali. 26 The sons of Zilpah, Leah’s servant: Gad and Asher. These were the sons of Jacob who were born to him in Paddan-aram.
27 And Jacob came to his father Isaac at Mamre, or Kiriath-arba (that is, Hebron), where Abraham and Isaac had sojourned. 28 Now the days of Isaac were 180 years. 29 And Isaac breathed his last, and he died and was gathered to his people, old and full of days. And his sons Esau and Jacob buried him.
Esau’s Descendants
36 These are the generations of Esau (that is, Edom). 2 Esau took his wives from the Canaanites: Adah the daughter of Elon the Hittite, Oholibamah the daughter of Anah the daughter[i] of Zibeon the Hivite,3 and Basemath, Ishmael’s daughter, the sister of Nebaioth. 4 And Adah bore to Esau, Eliphaz; Basemath bore Reuel; 5 and Oholibamah bore Jeush, Jalam, and Korah. These are the sons of Esau who were born to him in the land of Canaan.
6 Then Esau took his wives, his sons, his daughters, and all the members of his household, his livestock, all his beasts, and all his property that he had acquired in the land of Canaan. He went into a land away from his brother Jacob. 7 For their possessions were too great for them to dwell together. The land of their sojournings could not support them because of their livestock. 8 So Esau settled in the hill country of Seir. (Esau is Edom.)
9 These are the generations of Esau the father of the Edomites in the hill country of Seir. 10 These are the names of Esau’s sons: Eliphaz the son of Adah the wife of Esau, Reuel the son of Basemath the wife of Esau.11 The sons of Eliphaz were Teman, Omar, Zepho, Gatam, and Kenaz.12 (Timna was a concubine of Eliphaz, Esau’s son; she bore Amalek to Eliphaz.) These are the sons of Adah, Esau’s wife. 13 These are the sons of Reuel: Nahath, Zerah, Shammah, and Mizzah. These are the sons of Basemath, Esau’s wife. 14 These are the sons of Oholibamah the daughter of Anah the daughter of Zibeon, Esau’s wife: she bore to Esau Jeush, Jalam, and Korah.
15 These are the chiefs of the sons of Esau. The sons of Eliphaz the firstborn of Esau: the chiefs Teman, Omar, Zepho, Kenaz, 16 Korah, Gatam, and Amalek; these are the chiefs of Eliphaz in the land of Edom; these are the sons of Adah. 17 These are the sons of Reuel, Esau’s son: the chiefs Nahath, Zerah, Shammah, and Mizzah; these are the chiefs of Reuel in the land of Edom; these are the sons of Basemath, Esau’s wife.18 These are the sons of Oholibamah, Esau’s wife: the chiefs Jeush, Jalam, and Korah; these are the chiefs born of Oholibamah the daughter of Anah, Esau’s wife. 19 These are the sons of Esau (that is, Edom), and these are their chiefs.
20 These are the sons of Seir the Horite, the inhabitants of the land: Lotan, Shobal, Zibeon, Anah, 21 Dishon, Ezer, and Dishan; these are the chiefs of the Horites, the sons of Seir in the land of Edom. 22 The sons of Lotan were Hori and Hemam; and Lotan’s sister was Timna. 23 These are the sons of Shobal: Alvan, Manahath, Ebal, Shepho, and Onam. 24 These are the sons of Zibeon: Aiah and Anah; he is the Anah who found the hot springs in the wilderness, as he pastured the donkeys of Zibeon his father. 25 These are the children of Anah: Dishon and Oholibamah the daughter of Anah. 26 These are the sons of Dishon: Hemdan, Eshban, Ithran, and Cheran. 27 These are the sons of Ezer: Bilhan, Zaavan, and Akan. 28 These are the sons of Dishan: Uz and Aran. 29 These are the chiefs of the Horites: the chiefs Lotan, Shobal, Zibeon, Anah, 30 Dishon, Ezer, and Dishan; these are the chiefs of the Horites, chief by chief in the land of Seir.
31 These are the kings who reigned in the land of Edom, before any king reigned over the Israelites. 32 Bela the son of Beor reigned in Edom, the name of his city being Dinhabah. 33 Bela died, and Jobab the son of Zerah of Bozrah reigned in his place. 34 Jobab died, and Husham of the land of the Temanites reigned in his place. 35 Husham died, and Hadad the son of Bedad, who defeated Midian in the country of Moab, reigned in his place, the name of his city being Avith. 36 Hadad died, and Samlah of Masrekah reigned in his place. 37 Samlah died, and Shaul of Rehoboth on the Euphrates[j] reigned in his place. 38 Shaul died, and Baal-hanan the son of Achbor reigned in his place. 39 Baal-hanan the son of Achbor died, and Hadar reigned in his place, the name of his city being Pau; his wife’s name was Mehetabel, the daughter of Matred, daughter of Mezahab.
40 These are the names of the chiefs of Esau, according to their clans and their dwelling places, by their names: the chiefs Timna, Alvah, Jetheth,41 Oholibamah, Elah, Pinon, 42 Kenaz, Teman, Mibzar, 43 Magdiel, and Iram; these are the chiefs of Edom (that is, Esau, the father of Edom), according to their dwelling places in the land of their possession.
Joseph’s Dreams
37 Jacob lived in the land of his father’s sojournings, in the land of Canaan.
2 These are the generations of Jacob.
Joseph, being seventeen years old, was pasturing the flock with his brothers. He was a boy with the sons of Bilhah and Zilpah, his father’s wives. And Joseph brought a bad report of them to their father. 3 Now Israel loved Joseph more than any other of his sons, because he was the son of his old age. And he made him a robe of many colors.[k] 4 But when his brothers saw that their father loved him more than all his brothers, they hated him and could not speak peacefully to him.
5 Now Joseph had a dream, and when he told it to his brothers they hated him even more. 6 He said to them, “Hear this dream that I have dreamed: 7 Behold, we were binding sheaves in the field, and behold, my sheaf arose and stood upright. And behold, your sheaves gathered around it and bowed down to my sheaf.” 8 His brothers said to him, “Are you indeed to reign over us? Or are you indeed to rule over us?” So they hated him even more for his dreams and for his words.
9 Then he dreamed another dream and told it to his brothers and said, “Behold, I have dreamed another dream. Behold, the sun, the moon, and eleven stars were bowing down to me.” 10 But when he told it to his father and to his brothers, his father rebuked him and said to him, “What is this dream that you have dreamed? Shall I and your mother and your brothers indeed come to bow ourselves to the ground before you?” 11 And his brothers were jealous of him, but his father kept the saying in mind.
Joseph Sold by His Brothers
12 Now his brothers went to pasture their father’s flock near Shechem.13 And Israel said to Joseph, “Are not your brothers pasturing the flock at Shechem? Come, I will send you to them.” And he said to him, “Here I am.” 14 So he said to him, “Go now, see if it is well with your brothers and with the flock, and bring me word.” So he sent him from the Valley of Hebron, and he came to Shechem. 15 And a man found him wandering in the fields. And the man asked him, “What are you seeking?” 16 “I am seeking my brothers,” he said. “Tell me, please, where they are pasturing the flock.” 17 And the man said, “They have gone away, for I heard them say, ‘Let us go to Dothan.’” So Joseph went after his brothers and found them at Dothan.
18 They saw him from afar, and before he came near to them they conspired against him to kill him. 19 They said to one another, “Here comes this dreamer. 20 Come now, let us kill him and throw him into one of the pits.[l] Then we will say that a fierce animal has devoured him, and we will see what will become of his dreams.” 21 But when Reuben heard it, he rescued him out of their hands, saying, “Let us not take his life.” 22 And Reuben said to them, “Shed no blood; throw him into this pit here in the wilderness, but do not lay a hand on him”—that he might rescue him out of their hand to restore him to his father. 23 So when Joseph came to his brothers, they stripped him of his robe, the robe of many colors that he wore. 24 And they took him and threw him into a pit. The pit was empty; there was no water in it.
25 Then they sat down to eat. And looking up they saw a caravan of Ishmaelites coming from Gilead, with their camels bearing gum, balm, and myrrh, on their way to carry it down to Egypt. 26 Then Judah said to his brothers, “What profit is it if we kill our brother and conceal his blood? 27 Come, let us sell him to the Ishmaelites, and let not our hand be upon him, for he is our brother, our own flesh.” And his brothers listened to him. 28 Then Midianite traders passed by. And they drew Joseph up and lifted him out of the pit, and sold him to the Ishmaelites for twenty shekels[m] of silver. They took Joseph to Egypt.
29 When Reuben returned to the pit and saw that Joseph was not in the pit, he tore his clothes 30 and returned to his brothers and said, “The boy is gone, and I, where shall I go?” 31 Then they took Joseph’s robe and slaughtered a goat and dipped the robe in the blood. 32 And they sent the robe of many colors and brought it to their father and said, “This we have found; please identify whether it is your son’s robe or not.” 33 And he identified it and said, “It is my son’s robe. A fierce animal has devoured him. Joseph is without doubt torn to pieces.” 34 Then Jacob tore his garments and put sackcloth on his loins and mourned for his son many days. 35 All his sons and all his daughters rose up to comfort him, but he refused to be comforted and said, “No, I shall go down to Sheol to my son, mourning.” Thus his father wept for him. 36 Meanwhile the Midianites had sold him in Egypt to Potiphar, an officer of Pharaoh, the captain of the guard.
Psalm 12
Save, O Lord, for the godly one is gone;     for the faithful have vanished from among the children of man. 2 Everyone utters lies to his neighbor;     with flattering lips and a double heart they speak.
3 May the Lord cut off all flattering lips,     the tongue that makes great boasts, 4 those who say, “With our tongue we will prevail,     our lips are with us; who is master over us?”
5 “Because the poor are plundered, because the needy groan,     I will now arise,” says the Lord;     “I will place him in the safety for which he longs.” 6 The words of the Lord are pure words,     like silver refined in a furnace on the ground,     purified seven times.
7 You, O Lord, will keep them;     you will guard us[b] from this generation forever. 8 On every side the wicked prowl,     as vileness is exalted among the children of man.
Mark 14
It was now two days before the Passover and the Feast of Unleavened Bread. And the chief priests and the scribes were seeking how to arrest him by stealth and kill him, 2 for they said, “Not during the feast, lest there be an uproar from the people.”
Jesus Anointed at Bethany
3 And while he was at Bethany in the house of Simon the leper,[a] as he was reclining at table, a woman came with an alabaster flask of ointment of pure nard, very costly, and she broke the flask and poured it over his head. 4 There were some who said to themselves indignantly, “Why was the ointment wasted like that? 5 For this ointment could have been sold for more than three hundred denarii[b] and given to the poor.” And they scolded her. 6 But Jesus said, “Leave her alone. Why do you trouble her? She has done a beautiful thing to me. 7 For you always have the poor with you, and whenever you want, you can do good for them. But you will not always have me. 8 She has done what she could; she has anointed my body beforehand for burial. 9 And truly, I say to you, wherever the gospel is proclaimed in the whole world, what she has done will be told in memory of her.”
Judas to Betray Jesus
10 Then Judas Iscariot, who was one of the twelve, went to the chief priests in order to betray him to them. 11 And when they heard it, they were glad and promised to give him money. And he sought an opportunity to betray him.
The Passover with the Disciples
12 And on the first day of Unleavened Bread, when they sacrificed the Passover lamb, his disciples said to him, “Where will you have us go and prepare for you to eat the Passover?” 13 And he sent two of his disciples and said to them, “Go into the city, and a man carrying a jar of water will meet you. Follow him, 14 and wherever he enters, say to the master of the house, ‘The Teacher says, Where is my guest room, where I may eat the Passover with my disciples?’ 15 And he will show you a large upper room furnished and ready; there prepare for us.” 16 And the disciples set out and went to the city and found it just as he had told them, and they prepared the Passover.
17 And when it was evening, he came with the twelve. 18 And as they were reclining at table and eating, Jesus said, “Truly, I say to you, one of you will betray me, one who is eating with me.” 19 They began to be sorrowful and to say to him one after another, “Is it I?” 20 He said to them, “It is one of the twelve, one who is dipping bread into the dish with me. 21 For the Son of Man goes as it is written of him, but woe to that man by whom the Son of Man is betrayed! It would have been better for that man if he had not been born.”
Institution of the Lord’s Supper
22 And as they were eating, he took bread, and after blessing it broke it and gave it to them, and said, “Take; this is my body.” 23 And he took a cup, and when he had given thanks he gave it to them, and they all drank of it. 24 And he said to them, “This is my blood of the[c] covenant, which is poured out for many. 25 Truly, I say to you, I will not drink again of the fruit of the vine until that day when I drink it new in the kingdom of God.”
Jesus Foretells Peter’s Denial
26 And when they had sung a hymn, they went out to the Mount of Olives. 27 And Jesus said to them, “You will all fall away, for it is written, ‘I will strike the shepherd, and the sheep will be scattered.’ 28 But after I am raised up, I will go before you to Galilee.” 29 Peter said to him, “Even though they all fall away, I will not.” 30 And Jesus said to him, “Truly, I tell you, this very night, before the rooster crows twice, you will deny me three times.” 31 But he said emphatically, “If I must die with you, I will not deny you.” And they all said the same.
Jesus Prays in Gethsemane
32 And they went to a place called Gethsemane. And he said to his disciples, “Sit here while I pray.” 33 And he took with him Peter and James and John, and began to be greatly distressed and troubled. 34 And he said to them, “My soul is very sorrowful, even to death. Remain here and watch.”[d] 35 And going a little farther, he fell on the ground and prayed that, if it were possible, the hour might pass from him. 36 And he said, “Abba, Father, all things are possible for you. Remove this cup from me. Yet not what I will, but what you will.” 37 And he came and found them sleeping, and he said to Peter, “Simon, are you asleep? Could you not watch one hour? 38 Watch and pray that you may not enter into temptation. The spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.” 39 And again he went away and prayed, saying the same words. 40 And again he came and found them sleeping, for their eyes were very heavy, and they did not know what to answer him. 41 And he came the third time and said to them, “Are you still sleeping and taking your rest? It is enough; the hour has come. The Son of Man is betrayed into the hands of sinners. 42 Rise, let us be going; see, my betrayer is at hand.”
Betrayal and Arrest of Jesus
43 And immediately, while he was still speaking, Judas came, one of the twelve, and with him a crowd with swords and clubs, from the chief priests and the scribes and the elders. 44 Now the betrayer had given them a sign, saying, “The one I will kiss is the man. Seize him and lead him away under guard.” 45 And when he came, he went up to him at once and said, “Rabbi!” And he kissed him. 46 And they laid hands on him and seized him. 47 But one of those who stood by drew his sword and struck the servant[e] of the high priest and cut off his ear. 48 And Jesus said to them, “Have you come out as against a robber, with swords and clubs to capture me? 49 Day after day I was with you in the temple teaching, and you did not seize me. But let the Scriptures be fulfilled.”50 And they all left him and fled.
A Young Man Flees
51 And a young man followed him, with nothing but a linen cloth about his body. And they seized him, 52 but he left the linen cloth and ran away naked.
Jesus Before the Council
53 And they led Jesus to the high priest. And all the chief priests and the elders and the scribes came together. 54 And Peter had followed him at a distance, right into the courtyard of the high priest. And he was sitting with the guards and warming himself at the fire. 55 Now the chief priests and the whole council[f] were seeking testimony against Jesus to put him to death, but they found none. 56 For many bore false witness against him, but their testimony did not agree. 57 And some stood up and bore false witness against him, saying, 58 “We heard him say, ‘I will destroy this temple that is made with hands, and in three days I will build another, not made with hands.’” 59 Yet even about this their testimony did not agree. 60 And the high priest stood up in the midst and asked Jesus, “Have you no answer to make? What is it that these men testify against you?”[g] 61 But he remained silent and made no answer. Again the high priest asked him, “Are you the Christ, the Son of the Blessed?”62 And Jesus said, “I am, and you will see the Son of Man seated at the right hand of Power, and coming with the clouds of heaven.” 63 And the high priest tore his garments and said, “What further witnesses do we need? 64 You have heard his blasphemy. What is your decision?” And they all condemned him as deserving death. 65 And some began to spit on him and to cover his face and to strike him, saying to him, “Prophesy!” And the guards received him with blows.
Peter Denies Jesus
66 And as Peter was below in the courtyard, one of the servant girls of the high priest came, 67 and seeing Peter warming himself, she looked at him and said, “You also were with the Nazarene, Jesus.” 68 But he denied it, saying, “I neither know nor understand what you mean.” And he went out into the gateway[h] and the rooster crowed.[i] 69 And the servant girl saw him and began again to say to the bystanders, “This man is one of them.” 70 But again he denied it. And after a little while the bystanders again said to Peter, “Certainly you are one of them, for you are a Galilean.” 71 But he began to invoke a curse on himself and to swear, “I do not know this man of whom you speak.” 72 And immediately the rooster crowed a second time. And Peter remembered how Jesus had said to him, “Before the rooster crows twice, you will deny me three times.” And he broke down and wept.[j]
