Do you really think that the realm will support Jacaerys's claim eventually? After all the rumors about his bastardy are really strong and most TG stans claim that since Jace is a bastard he can't inherit anything, Jace needs to be legitimized first. I really like Jacaerys character and I'm new in this fandom, so this matter is so confuse to me.

I have many, many posts about bastardry and the boys' illegitimacy vs legitimacy: HERE, HERE, HERE, HERE, HERE, & HERE. Basically, Jace is not really illegtimate bc illegtimacy must be "proven" and he was never proven to be. People have to argue/prove for it more than people having to argue whether or not one's hair is red or not. And

Also, Alicent had been, FOR YEARS, trying to get more people on her side and denounce or pressure either Viserys into removing Rhaenyra and her sons from the line of succession (both bk and show) or just get MOST of the lords at court and beyond to denounce Rhaenyra and her sons...and yet she had to resort to a usurpation, imprisoning courtiers and servants to withhold news of Viserys' death, pressured the council to crown Aegon after many lines of persuasion buttressed by Cole & Otto's input and wild accusations and assertions about Rhaenyra's sons, Daemon, and Rhaenyra not being actually the Queen...

I'd say that Alicent failed to convince anyone to really go against Rhaenyra by depending on the boys illegitimacy.

Answer to Question #2

Do you mean if Rhaenyra had ascended peacefully (no war at all, no usurpation) or had won the war with Jacaerys still alive when she did? Yes, he is her heir and the lords fought for her...they were a package deal. If you didn't want to have Jace as the next ruler, you would not fight for the person who names him as heir. Rhaenyra would have consolidated her reign and ensured her line's future better.

Now if we're talking about DURING THE WAR, Jace somehow survived but Rhaenyra did not/lost, I think there would have been a bit more difficulty without Cregan Stark, Jeyne Arryn, the Blackwoods, Vyprens, other lords who respected that their vows applying to Rhaenyra applied to her heir as well (bc again, they came as a package deal politically) and without as many dragons as the blacks had. Since most of the lords didn't swear to him but just to Rhaenyra, maybe some lords would use this as an excuse to defect or leave the war altogether because it stil costs them resources, some still will use this to justify how a male line goes before a woman's line, and/or they are just greedy AND cowardly and see this as they way to flagrantly ally themselves with the greens.

in the beginning. Bc the actual named heir/undoubtedly trueborn person is no longer there to enforce/support Jace's claim.

And once again, Cregan Stark made his Pact with Jace [2nd pictured quote above]...Cregan was a beast after the war and northerners are mad about their vow-taking, arguably more than "southern" folk. Cregan also liked Jacaerys very much from what's written about them--some fans theorize romantically, but whatever. He also had a higher emotional stake in it, which is an amplifying motive to the primary one about the Pact.

As for Jeyne Arryn, she was steadfastly loyal to Rhaenyra's cause because she was blood through Aemma, she would be helping to make sure her own position was securer from male relatives who already tried to oust her, and because Rhaenyra was a woman--like her. Women in a man's world an all that ("A Son for a Son"):

Thus it could get easier for Jace to default back to him having been Rhaenyra's heir, he's never been "found out" to not be Laenor's , and he's a male dragonrider. again, this is if he loses most of Rhaenyra's supporters, bc it's still possible that he'd reatin the bigger and important ones.

Also, if Daemon somehow by some miracle managed to dispatch Aemond and come back...they'd likely fight with and for Jace anyway because Daemon is just loyal &--by reputation and action--brutal like that. Jace--less likely...key words--loses that many supporters of Rhaenyra's.

Hi! I can help you debunk some of these steps!

Disclaimer: I've played on a European copy of Radiant Dawn, and finished it 7 times without data transfer, and once with PoR data transfer with the Ike x Soren A support. Spoiler: you don't need it.

Step 1: It's a myth. I managed to unlock ALL of the secret conversations, cutscenes, and characters on my 2nd playthrough and onwards without using any data transfer from PoR! I didn't have that previous A support between Ike and Soren and it never affected my gameplay.

So the real steps to unlocking all the secrets actually are...

Be on a 2nd playthrough and more.

Deploy the Black Knight in Part I Endgame.

Have Ike fight the Black Knight and Soren fight Micaiah in Part III Chapter 7, the timed river mission. Use the birds to ferry Ike behind the log, so the BK attacks at range, then retreat! Your Ike better have max speed to not be doubled to oblivion. Soren should use a Meteor tome stolen from Calill and carried to him by Ilyana to attack from far away. It's a timed mission!

Have Ike and Soren reach A support sometime during Part III is ideal.

In Part III Chapter 13, choose to spare Pelleas. Do not kill, do not delegate, refuse his order!

In Part III Endgame, have Soren attack Pelleas. Use the last of your Meteor tome because reaching him is very difficult with the death count (timer) and all the enemies surrounding him.

Bring Soren to the Goddess Tower to watch his special base conversation on the final map.

By the end of the game, both Soren and Pelleas need to be alive. Enjoy the cutscenes.

Your Step 13 is also unecessary, I've only done it once or twice with a spare Meteor use, and still got the entire ending (cutscenes, characters, convos) when I didn't bother triggering the dialogue.

The Twelve Labours of Radiant Dawn

I have joked constantly for a while that if you want to unlock all of the secrets and characters in Radiant Dawn, you must complete the 12 Labours. This being a reference to the 12 Labours Heracles/Hercules has to complete for reasons. Anyway. Enough explaining the joke and killing what little humor it had.

If you've ever attempted to unlock all of the secrets, you may go through similar trials at how frustrating it can be to get at some of these secrets. I know I thought I had done everything right back when I made my first and only attempt in 2008, and still came up short. Doesn't help that there were mountains of misinformation on the internet about the Tellius games back in the day that have been a constant source of pain and consternation or vindication while I play through them again (quite slowly) with my partner in the modern era.

So I make this joke all the time, but are there really 12 different things you have to do? Many of the requirements overlap.

For example, if you want to recruit Pelleas into your army, you have to not kill him. If you want to get the secret epilogue conversation with Pelleas, you also have to not kill him. So I have gone through all of the requirements currently on the internet (aka Serenes Forest), which I hope now to be true, and I did come up with 12 things you need to do. Some of these things are much easier than others.

Without further ado:

The 12 Labours of Radiant Dawn

Play through Path of Radiance with Ike and Soren having an A support and Soren does not retreat

Transfer the Path of Radiance save into Radiant Dawn, preferably before starting the Radiant Dawn file

Beat Radiant Dawn once and start a new game + file in Radiant Dawn, all further steps refer to actions taken in the NG+ file

Get Ike and Soren an A Support

Use the Black Knight in Chapter 1-F

Have Soren fight Micaiah in Chapter 3-7 and survive

Have Ike fight the Black Knight in Chapter 3-7 and survive

Choose not to kill Pelleas in Chapter 3-13

Have Soren fight Pelleas in Chapter 3-F

Bring Soren into the Goddess Tower in Part 4

Soren does not die or retreat in Radiant Dawn

Pelleas does not die in Radiant Dawn

Optional. Have Micaiah attack Soren in Chapter 3-13, this is not required for the secrets, but I was told so by someone on the internet back in the day and I cannot be convinced that I don't have to do this.

This ought to allow you to: recruit Pelleas, recruit Sephiran, unlock Ike's hidden memories, unlock Ike and Soren's Base Conversation in Chapter 4-F-5, and unlock the secret epilogue conversation with Pelleas.

Something I’ve been kicking around is that with the addition of Edgeshot’s quirk (assuming BK can use it, which, given that people merging together and gaining access to each other’s quirks is like really common I don’t know why he couldn’t), and with 2nd users quirk most likely being a one and done kind of power Bakugou and Deku will be on a pretty even playing field ability wise, and after watching the anime and reaffirming some suspicions I had after the manga, it seems pretty apparent that this is and might always have been the goal.

Canon makes it a point to highlight in dialogue or internal monologue that with each quirk or move Deku gains Kacchan either already had it or can avoid it in the case of Blackwhip (Catch a Kacchan). It goes out of its way to establish that each move Deku gets or learns Kacchan can do it, or was the basis for because Deku straight up copied it from him.

Even the addition of the vestige quirks has them getting to a place of equity and I think Edgeshot is going to finalize that equality and I theorize that was probably the actual reason for BK’s death in the first place.

Rather than have Deku give Bakugou OFA like in the movie HK is leveling the playing field by showing that Bakugou already has most of the quirks himself, and now he’ll have the final one.

Fa Jin: is similar to the Cluster/condense move Kacchan has and uses for speed which he could still use after he gets his Edgeshot upgrade even though that move is what killed him. (Side note: It was also interesting to me that Endeavor is the one that encouraged him and Shouto to develop and hone those abilities and speed, and it would be interesting if Shouto also has a parallel with his in his fight with Dabi). I think Edgeshot’s flexibility could make the internal combustion problem a moot point since he’ll be able to theoretically change his body to accommodate it. So Bakugou could be able to keep up speed wise if that’s the case. This was something he could already do but it just turned out to be the catalyst for his death so has to be fixed to still be viable which Edgeshot’s quirk could do.

Danger Sense: I feel like Bakugou is incredibly good at this innately, and that has been shown over and over in canon from an early point. The invisible guy at USJ comes to mind. That was early on in canon so he’ll have only improved with experience. Also his ability to work blindfolded, in his own smoke etc. He honed these abilities over the years where Deku couldn’t so they should be pretty equal on this, and as we’ve seen Danger Sense is far from flawless.

Smokescreen: Has always been able to do this, used it deliberately at the Sports Festival.

Float: Bakugou has also always been able to do this and crows about it when they learn that will be the quirk Deku gets next. Bakugou’s control over his flight is an early impressive feat and one he only gets better at.

Blackwhip: This is the quirk Bakugou can’t just be naturally good at or have trained for and I believe now that Edgeshot is going to give him this one. BK can’t take Edgeshot’s ability naturally, he would never use nefarious means to get additional abilities no matter how much he wanted to win, and even getting a quirk awakening wouldn’t grant him what he needs to imitate Blackwhip, it is the only quirk of Deku’s he can’t do himself, he can only avoid. But if he has Edgeshot’s quirk he now has a ranged rope-like ability just like Blackwhip and they will both have the same level of power. Black whip always bothered me because it seemed OP on top of everything else Deku can do and because unless he got a support item BK couldn’t imitate it and his gauntlets are already fucking massive. So Deku would have a huge advantage with a ranged suppression quirk like that.

So I think this death, and his final thoughts were leading up to this: yes he WILL catch Izuku because he’s finally going to get the last bit of his “natural OFA” he didn’t have, and they will both be on a level playing field and will be able to work together to bring down AFO with their individual versions of OFA. It’s a really interesting way to have a similar ending to Heroes Rising but without giving BK OFA.

Deku has always admired Kacchan on the same level as All Might, and I think that’s important. Bakugou has had most of OFA already and from early on, he had an amazingly powerful quirk, good control, excellent combat skills, and has held his own against Deku even with higher percentages of OFA, and he also had natural abilities similar to the vestige abilities except for Blackwhip which he now has the potential to get. Where Deku had to learn how to use his new abilities, BK already had most of them, and spent his time instead getting over himself, becoming more emphatheic and compassionate, and dealing with his inferiority complex and after this rebirth, and possibly getting the last piece, they should be equal in all the ways.

lana’s mum victoria (vic) ws a music journalist w a pretty fruitful career ahead of her when she met lana’s dad richard (rich). his record label ws jst starting out, founded on the coattails of his wealthy best friend’s (jensen peters) investment w his other best friend (who he jst calls knoxville). it rocketed to success when they signed poppy injects, a rock band w an electric stage presence, n vic ws drawn to the glitz n glamour of a man tht ws at the helm of his aspiring industry. their love ws very impulsive, all or nothing right frm the start, n it ws almost like she ws mre in love w his accomplishments n what he represented than him.

(DRUGS TW) anyway so jameson records repped a few rock bands bk in the eighties, altho poppy injects r who they’re mostly known fr, namely bc of hw brightly they crashed n burned. they were a big chart success bt the lead singer hd quite an intense struggle w heroin (wsnt rly subtle abt it either while he ws in the public eye as u cn probably imagine frm such an on-the-nose band name) n he ws always in n out of the papers. it eventually brought down his career n it ws a big publicity nightmare

what’d been a rly close relationship before where he ws basically like a surrogate father figure to lana was Not there any more. he ws rly withdrawn n always pushing her away n snapping at her for the sake of getting her to leave him alone. on top of this lana had a lot of shit go down while he was away n rly just shouldn’t have been a kid alone in tht house. regardless lana thought if she kept grinning as wide as she cld she’d convince caleb to join in too. maybe if she seemed fine n happy he’d take the lead. maybe she’d believe it too n start to feel it n everything could go bk to how it was before her world became so different. lana liked the way the sky flipped when she tipped her head back on the swings bt this was different. everything was upside down bt this didn’t make her belly feel like she’d swallowed a butterfly and it wasn’t funny bt still, she kept laughing. always desperate to find something to laugh at n if she couldn’t find it she invented it. as long as ur laughing the world can’t b that bad.

she applied to a dance company in LA n fell in w a pretentious art scene there full of wannabe andy warhols n the like. became a makeshift edie sedgwick to some guy w dyed white hair n the idea his every concept was revolutionary when rly he jst shot her dancing barely clothed splashing around in a random fountain in his friend’s mansion on an ancient film camera. she’d spend her days floating around on lilo’s and prancing in feather boas and racing with glitter leftover frm last night in her leotard w smudges of faint red lipstick to barely make her job on time. always a sexy train wreck bt this time? make it hollywood.

the thing that kills me about bakugou is when the plf go "having a powerful quirk means i'm better than you"and basically advocate for eugenics, it's horrible and corrupt, but when bakugou does it, it's lol funny and 'oh that gremlin.' in a recent chapter he made fun of the past OFA holders for having 'weak' quirks and dying and he said these things in front of Toshi, who has himself given so much. just...what was the point of him knowing about OFA if he was just going to be a disrespectful ass?

I have no idea why it was necessary for him to know, tbh. I think it was a waste of an opportunity to give him growth by NOT telling him. And honestly, I agree that k*tsuki and the plf have similar ideals because they’re elitists. :/ They think they’re better than others. Unironically, the lov wanting k*tsuki on their side would have been like, them all sharing this same thought. Idk, I just don’t like him. The things he says and does are played off as comedic relief now and it’s honestly so annoying. He needs to be brought down from his pedestal.

I agree with this completely. That thing about his arms aching doesn’t show much of the consequences at all. And he gets over it rather quickly. I hate that he has so much plot armor.

It’s so long overdue and now things are played as comedic relief like him hurting Izuku with his spike and also being extremely disrespectful during the ofa meetings. Their relationship isn’t healthy and it isn’t friendly, no matter how canon wants to paint it that way.

Thank you, I’m glad to hear it. I don’t like that he, a literal bully who has suicide baited Izuku and has hurt him with his explosion quirk, is the fandom’s favorite and the most popular character. Literally any other character would have been better to stan than him. He’s everywhere and I can’t enjoy part of the series because of him always being there. It’s so annoying. I will continue to yell about why he is not a good character until horikoshi gives us the development he desperately needs AND an apology to Izuku for being so abusive to him. And yes, bullying is abuse.

I feel your pain. I die a bit inside when the baku-go theory comes out of the woodworks cause there's no actual evidence for it. (And no, having spiky hair is not evidence fandom! So many characters have it!) At least Heroes Rising shows their silhouettes better. And I feel like we'll at least learn who the 4th and 6th users are first (name & quirk), but it could still be possible that 2nd or 3rd's quirk unlocks before 4th/6th's does. I hope so so we learn about those two sooner D:

#20. YOU MADE THAT BORROWED POWER  YOUR OWN

3.19 “RUSH!” Provisional License Exam Arc

What Happens: Bakugo asks Midoriya if he’s made ‘that borrowed power’ his own, complimenting him indirectly by saying that of course he passed. Deku gets super excited at being complimented by him.

Why I like it: For all the shit they throw at one another early on, BK & DK do really look up to/respect each other. They won’t admit it easily, but scenes like this (and a later scene in Chapter 194, where Deku compliments Kacchan and he too reacts extremely) showcase that respect. I love it. Also, Kacchan knows Deku’s AM’s inheritor already.

#19. HAVE YOU GOTTEN ANY BETTER? (Manga)

Chapter 168 “The Strange Tale of Aoyama” Interlude arcs

What happens. Post Internship arc, Bakugo asks Deku if he’s gotten any better since they last talked. Deku says no, and Bakugo reminds him that he said he’d surpass him. This prompts Deku to work harder.

Why I like it: Ideal RivalShipping is about two characters pushing each other to be their best selves. Bakugo is great at getting Deku to try harder, just as Deku prompts his best self.

#18. YOUR QUIRK IS AMAZING, KACCHAN

Backstory flashback, multiple times. Mostly Battle Trial Arc

What happens: Baby Deku and Kacchan walk through the woods together, talking about quirks, before DK is found to be quirkless. This is one of many scenes of Baby Deku and Kacchan being casual friends.

Why I like it: I love the cute scenes of them as kids, where they seem to be actual friends and hang out together, bonding over All-Might and quirks and heroes. I hope we get to see them hang out like that again as adults some day.

#17. SECRET OFA TALKS (MANGA SPOILERS!)

Chapter 217: End of joint Training Arc

What Happens: Kacchan joins in the AM and Deku talks (for the 2nd time) to discuss what’s happening with OFA. He also works with Deku on trying to master his new ability.

Why I like it: Bakugo is instantly able to help Deku zero in on the information he needs up joining the secret OFA talks, in a way that AM wasn’t able to. He makes a great partner for Deku here, getting right to the point and refusing to waste time.

#16. “I COULD MOVE LIKE KACCHAN”

Hero-Killer Arc, 2.14-2.19

What Happens: Deku is trying to master OFA. He thinks about how he wants to move, and uses Kacchan’s moves as his model. He’s able to discover Full Cowling like this, which lets him fight Stain and do well in the race - and everyone notices (Iida, Uraraka, Todoroki, Bakugo) that he’s moving like Kacchan.

Why I like it: Deku has lots of moments where he thinks “What would Kacchan do” or tries to model himself on the guy. He admires the crap out of him - but not in the blind way he tries to imitate AM, or Ochaco tries to imitate Deku, or Iida Ingenium. Because Deku doesn’t hero-worship Baku, but sees his flaws, he’s able to imitate him without losing himself.

#15. “HE’S AMAZING”

Battle Trial Arc, 1.07-1.08

What happens: Midoriya and Uraraka are pitted against Kacchan and Iida in mock battle. Midoriya goes on and on and on about how awesome Kacchan is and how much he wants to beat him - first in a speech to Uraraka, later telling Bakugo to his face.

Why I like it: Deku really looks up to Kacchan, and even at their most adversarial, he still talks about him in positive terms and speaks of him as a cool guy he wants to surpass. Deku doing this is also good for Bakugo, since he’s able to acknowledge his flaws and strengths without kissing his ass like his sidekicks in middle school; Deku beating him upsets his pride and sets off his Character Development.

#14. TWIN STARS OF CLASS 1-A

3.17 Class 1-A, License Exam Arc

What Happens: Aizawa meta’s about his class with Ms Joke, explaining that Deku and Kacchan are the center of every Class A incident, and despite not getting along, their presence elevates everyone else up.

Why I like it: The staff of UA seem to ship BKDK. They teamed them up to fight AM and encourage them to get along. Aizawa sees clearly how each one inspires everyone else. This speech groups them together as a duo who act in tandem. Twin Stars.

#13. “THE MOST AMAZING HERO ALWAYS WINS IN THE END.”

2.24 “Katsuki Bakugo origin” Flashback

What happens. Baby Kacchan fights off a bunch of older kids, even though he’s in tears. Baby Deku watches him from afar and looks deeply impressed.

Why I like it: Deku seems to have admired Kacchan since he was really, really young. I’m not sure when this scene takes place, but Deku’s big smile and wide, shining eyes when watching Bakugo seem like a mark of affection and love to me.

#12. ABOUT MY/YOUR SHOOT STYLE

3.23 Deku vs Kacchan Part 2

What happens: Post Fight, under house arrest alone, Deku and Kacchan have a very civil conversation, where depending on the translation either Deku brings up Shoot style and asks for advice, or Kacchan offers it on his own. Ends with Deku smiling.

Why I like it: Post-DVK2, they immediately establish that they’re now capable of talking to each other in civil terms. Kacchan gives Deku civil advice, and despite saying ‘it pissed me off’, the whole exchange is beautifully positive.

#11. GET OUT OF MY WAY, DEKU

1.12 All Might USJ Arc

What happens: Deku jumps in to save Al Might and is nearly killed by Kurogiri. At the last second Kacchan saves him by taking down Kurogiri. Also Later Kacchan is nearly killed and Deku screams in horror.

Why I like it: Bakugo doesn’t have a ton of scenes where he saves Deku, but the few times he does save someone/show concern for them, it’s usually him. This is Baku’s first save, and though he phrases it in rude terms, he still does it. Actions> words.

#10. WELL, NOW I’M EVEN MORE EAGER (MANGA)

Chapter 202, joint Training Arc

What Happens: Deku and AM go off to talk OFA. Kacchan refuses to be left out and joins them voluntarily. Noticing Deku is upset he encourages him in his own way, which AM observes. Once Deku smiles, Kacchan goes back to being his abrasive self.

Why I Like it: Baku is newly nicer (in his Tsundere way) after DVK2. He’s actually able to be kind to Deku and encouraging. This is similar to the advice the OFA users give Deku later, which helps him actually use the power. OFA Co-conspirators FTW.

#9. NOW IT’S YOUR TURN

3.11-3.12 US of Smash

What Happens: Post All Might’s fight, Kacchan notices Deku’s tears and AM’s words, and puts the pieces together. He asks AM about Deku and when he’s shot down he remains quiet and brooding.

Why I like it: Bakugo changes forever in this section of the story. He realizes the truth about Deku. He blames himself for ending AM. He asks about Deku and shows awareness that something’s up with him. It’s all very self-aware and sweet.

#8. YOU’RE PROBABLY THE MOST FRUSTRATED OF ALL

3.04-3.10 Training Camp and Hideout Raid Arcs

What Happens: While fighting Muscular, Deku learns that Kacchan is in danger. He goes psycho Madman Deku mode for the whole Training Camp Arc, refusing to pause or rest until he’s saved Kacchan. He falls apart when Kacchan is taken, then immediately goes off to save him again even though he could die.

Why I like it. Deku likes saving people in general, but when someone threatens Kacchan, he goes crazy in a way he doesn’t for anyone else. He spends this whole arc hopped up on “Must save Kacchan” juice and keeps pushing and going no matter what. He cares about the guy, no two ways about it.

#7. DON’T COME, DEKU

3.07 “What a Twist!”

What happens: Bakugo is captured by villains. He’s being dragged through the portal and Deku comes barreling towards him with two broken arms, fully prepared to jump through the portal and die just to save him. Bakugo tells him not to and Deku listens.

Why I like it: Though this arc is filled with Deku being crazy protective of Baku, Baku gets his own fair share in right here. He tells Deku not to basically die protecting him, and Deku listens. Baku basically saves his life here, at the expense of his own.

#6. “ARE YOU ALL RIGHT? ARE YOU HURT?”

Backstory flashback repeated a lot.

What happens: Baby Kacchan slips and falls into a creek. Baby Deku goes down to help him up and asks if he’s ok. This offends Baby Kacchan’s pride.

Why I like it: Bakugo probably never had anyone treat him like a fallible human being until Deku came along. Everyone told him he was amazing and could never be hurt - but Deku doesn’t. That bruises his ego at first, but in reality it’s exactly what he needs: Someone who cares about him and will protect him, while still admiring him. (Plus this scene is cute).

#5. HOW CAN HE SMILE… (MANGA SPOILERS. MASSIVE ONES)

Chapter 210, Joint Training Arc

What Happens: In an effort to piss Deku off and get him to talk, Monoma using Shinso’s power taunts him about Bakugo, saying that Bakugo shouldn’t be able to smile since he destroyed All Might. Deku’s new quirk goes PsychoBerserker out of control in response.

Why I like it: Deku’s power-ups are often connected with Baku in some way. Like many superpowers, OFA seems to be fueled by emotions. So targeting Bakugo brings out Deku’s greatest powers. In this case, though, it’s not a villain trying to hurt him. It’s someone insulting him. And that means Deku will defend Kacchan’s honor and feelings as well as his safety.

#4. I GOT MY QUIRK FROM SOMEONE ELSE

1.08 “Bakugo’s Start Line”

What Happens: Post Battle Trial Arc, Bakugo is in emotional freeful. Deku notices and chases after him, telling him for no goddamn good reason that he has an inherited power. Kacchan doesn’t believe him and instead pours his heart out to him, crying and promising to beat him.

Why I like it: Buncha reasons. 1) Deku ditches all his lovely friends, including Ochaco, to go comfort Kacchan. Even in the same way Ochaco just ditched Kaminari. 2) Deku tells Kacchan about OFA. He won’t tell anyone else, he just decided comforting Kacchan was more important than his entire reason for being here. 3) Kacchan cries in front of Deku and tells him how he feels insecure. He doesn’t do that in front of anyone else. 4) Warm lighting, deep eye contact, and the beginning of a beautiful rivalry.

#3. DEKU AND KACCHAN VS ALL MIGHT

2.24 “Katsuki Bakugo Origin”

What happens: Deku and Kacchan work together to fight AM, after a nasty fight. Deku calls Kacchan out for not being himself. Kacchan sacrifices his body to make sure Deku can escape. Deku socks AM in the face to protect Kacchan. They win.

Why I like it: For a moment that started out so dark (sock to the face), this one gets sweet fast. On Deku’s side: He reprimands Kacchan for not acting like himself, compliments his can-do- attitude, and works together with him, overcoming his fear; he finds the strength to punch AM in the face to save Kacchan, with a callback to ep 2. Kacchan’s strength helps Deku win. On Kacchan’s side: He works with Deku to win, giving him his gauntlet, and sacrifices his safety so Deku can get out, even sounding kinda concerned for him when he gets in danger. They showcase what a great team they could/will make when they work together.

#2. MY LEGS MOVED BEFORE I COULD THINK

Chapter 1/Episode 2: Izuku Midoriya Origin/What it Takes to be a Hero

What happens: Deku, in a fit of depression, sees the monster AM saved him from suffocating some kid. He’s freaking out till he sees that it’s Kacchan. He runs into deadly danger to save Kacchan, inspiring AM to save them both.

Why I like it: Because this moment changed Deku’s entire life and Kacchan’s as well. Deku’s legs ‘move’ before he can think. And it’s explicitly because it’s Kacchan in danger; he doesn’t move until he sees Kacchan’s terrified eyes. Kacchan also shows concern for Deku, telling him to get away (he didn’t say that to the pros trying to save him) so he doesn’t die. This is another scene that follows up on an awful fight between the two, and changes both lives forever. Saving Kacchan gets Deku OFA. Being saved by Deku opens Kacchan to his humility for the first time and stops him from hassling Deku. Plus, just a super-snippy moment to me.

Why I like it: AM himself says it. They’re perfectly matched. They need each other to become the greatest heroes. Kacchan knows he can only talk to Deku about how he’s feeling; nobody else can receive his feelings. Deku loves and admires Kacchan as his friend, not his Great Hero like AM. It’s just perfect.

So this was my dream from last night, why dont know but it's still one of my tamer dreams.

I was dating Hawks, doing cute shit together and it was adorable but then he had go do hero work and I got kidnapped by Dabi.

I was put in a rather big bedroom, and was already planning my escape, and when I did escape I only for so far before being dragged back this time and thrown inside a small room with only bed.

However I already planning my next escape and the 2nd time I made out and hide in a random house. I went to sleep only to up to unhappy Dabi above before being dragged bk

This time he took back to the first bedroom before him saying something like, "Next time you escape, it your family that pay"

So when he leaves I kind of breakdown and cry, cause I rather not have my family kill, who are apparently living in this house as well.

So I went to my parents and their didn't really seen care, cause their getting good stuff from him and I should just be happy with it.

Then I go to my grandmother, who's the only one who seem to care and offer me a drink, what I took, telling me that everything will work out and I just need to listen to him to for moment, hugging and stroking my hair.

So I went back to the bedroom and there was so much Exclusive Disney merch, laying around and maybe had a breakdown, like he was trying to buy me with all this stuff but I wasn't going to let him, so I just went layed on the bed with back to the door, hoping for a rescue, while only wanting Hawks.

He then in came after that, saying something like 'you'll get used to it here'

But Dabi was definitely the boss in this, also he terrifying when unhappy/angry, at least in my dream he was.

I have noticed a big difference between fanon and canon Todoroki and Bakugou's relationship. In a lot of Fanon, there is a common perception of Todoroki being (unapologetically) shady to Bakugou or judgmental, perhaps coming from fans who don't like Bakugou too much and project Shouto as someone superior who can put him down. Whereas in canon I feel, Todoroki goes out of his way a lot to help and care for Bakugou since their match. The one time he made a observation between Kota and (pt1)

-Bakugou, when Bakugou got mad he did apologise, he went out of his way to help rescue Bakugou, in seem to feel bad Bakugou was cut from the interview, he genuinely sees Bakugou as his friend, he took note Bakugou didn’t have an internship and now on the internship he was willing to make sure his friends get the most out of the internship too. Yeah Shouto is shady to his Dad but I think some fans who see Bakugou as a Endeavour 2nd expect Shouto to be turning that onto Bakugou as well (pt2)

-when its not supported in the manga. And it’s a shame since I think Shouto relationship with Bakugou I think adds a unique layer to his character because while it still has the co-operative and  "looking out for" a class mate nature his other dynamics have it’s up against Bakugou’s less agreeable attitude when usually most other characters are admiring, complimentary, trusting, generally positive about him. I do also wonder if after the cultural festival if Shouto understands Bakugou’s (pt3)

-language more since he, along with most of 1A, misunderstood Bakugou’s harsh sentiment on the class wanting to perform for the sake of the rest of the school. Idk but I like the understated evidence that the boys have a camaraderie and consideration to each other. It’s been a while since your last meta on the relationship between the main 3 boys (last time was more to do with shipping), may I ask what your feelings are on the current relationships and character development, when you have time?

I don’t get much chance to talk about Todo, but it’s very true that a lot of fanon interpretations are either exaggerated or inaccurate to what’s actually canon (esp if they don’t read the manga). It helps to be very aware of this when consuming fan content, including for other popular characters too.

The Todo that I see has both ‘chilled’ and ‘warmed’ in areas where he’s actually more responsible and now looking at the bigger picture. His priorities have shifted; he’s weighed his future as a hero more important than his personal beef with his father that’s held him back. He’s chilled in the sense that his seething resentment for his father has eased (matured), and he can think more clearly and less selfishly without that anger clouding his best judgments. Todo now realizes he can use (and sway) his father’s influence to both his own benefit and for his classmates’ (as we can see with his 3-way internship idea). Todo has also warmed in the sense that he’s more open-minded, cooperative, considerate, and supportive to his other classmates. Kacchan included.

I’m honestly not on top of the td/bk parts of the fandom (so you’ve probably written a better assessment here than me), but of the fanon interactions I do happen to see from time to time, they often have Todo making these snide offhand comments at the expense of Kacchan, which….:// aren’t funny (and I can sense those misplaced character projections coming from miles away…) Instead, Todo is blunt yes (with a mouth that can come off as rude), but he also cares, even when that bluntness comes off in his caring. So when he’s supportive and earnest with suggestions, consideration, and concern all openly in front of Kacchan’s face, then that’s when Kacchan’s irritated reactions to him are funny. Todo’s goal is also not to be the best hero either, so he’s not even in Kacchan’s ‘way,’ and simply no-sells whatever attitude Kacchan throws back at him too. His interactions do add another fun layer to Kacchan’s classmate dynamics, and that extra variety (getting Kacchan to interact with more people, instead of getting stuck with a certain fanon one) is something I’m actually really grateful for. (So thx Hori!) 

As for the 3 boys’ current interactions (as in the pic above) Todo comes off as a genuinely supportive friend/classmate who’s aware of when they’re in need (like when he saw Kacchan and Deku no longer had a place to intern), so he knows when to step in and be on top of things to help out. And he knows when to step back too, to let Kacchan and Deku do their thing (like when they charged in to assist Endeavor before Hawks literally swooped in, and Todo stayed back with his ice). This arc has only just begun though, so there’s bound to be plenty more of their group’s dynamics to come, which I’m definitely looking forward to.

I'm YOU but I'm crossing my fingers that the Alicole thing is a lie. I can't take the crazy writing decisions of this show anymore!! Can someone in the writing room give consistency to TG?! Certainly the blacks were robbed and diminished but they are also moderately consistent in their writing

I swear I'm crying and pulling my hair, hitting my head to see if a concussion makes any of this make sense. Alicent "you are the threat Aegon", Alicent "OMG they planned an usurpation?!" Alicent "she will kill my children", Alicent "UPS my son killed hers", Alicent "I want his eye", Alicent "Aemond be good to those guys ❤️" Alicent "extramarital sex is bad", Alicent "Cole is the exception". What do you want Alicent?! What do you really believe in?! This goes beyond being hypocritical and using patriarchy to her advantage, What Alicent believes from one chapter to the next changes according to the need of the script. Just give that poor woman some consistency, the cognitive dissonance can't be that strong 😭

If I have to grab Show!Alicent and analyze her motives, what she wants and what she is... I'm left blank. She is a plot device that instead of allowing her to move the plot they kept her locked away and untouchable. She's not nuanced, she's inconsistent.

I can't be bothered, I've long given up on the show. I'm here for memes, article links, the dragons, and enjoying being proven right as obnoxious as that seem or is. To me, this show and its writers have been obnoxious, sexist, and condescending. Sure the dragons will be entertaining if maybe not as colorful as they should be--which might just be a trailer-specific dilution to otherwise make the preimeire that much more visually stunning--but I have a sneaking suspicion the writing will fall too short for other characters or contradict itself again.

Alicole will be just hilarious to me.

But to get into Alicent's character (bc I can't resist):

I believe it wasn't that they planned a usurpation, but that she was left out of their plans and those plans being to murder Rhaneyra. About the murdering Rhaenyra part, I do look 👀 at her, bc...this is a usurpation and you have already tried to get this women/her kids' lives ruined on multiple occassions or put those kids' lives in danger! Clear inconsistency. However, the fact that these men planned without including her at all is definitely a good thing in terms of her hypocritical characterization--the leopards have eaten her face. It's just her immediate desire to save Rhaenyra out of "love" is some crazy ass bullshit.

By the 2nd I take it you meant her surprise in how Aemond could have ever killed her kid during an envoy mission before Rhaenrya could try to any of them, thus immediately proving herself/Otto wrong. I'm fine with this actually. Again, describes and paints her hypocrisy, and the problem is that she then continues (by the trailers) try to diminish it as Aemond wanting semi-righteous revenge. To me, despite the whole kin-slaying being a huge cultural no-no, Alicent is also betraying Viserys' and going against his word before Aemond kills Luke. She has always been this way.

Same as above. Alicent may make herself-Criston the exception bc she is at least "hiding" her relationship and (MAYBE, if it began after Viserys died) it was not while she was married...as if this would matter to the Andal-Faith patriarchal authorities of womanly behavior and totally save them from their condemnation?! Think of Otto's reaction if he were to know? He would either be as horrified and shocked, or he already knows and keeps mum bc it is towards his benefit but he'd still resent & be disgusted with her or accuse her of being sluttish privately as if he's the paragon of sexual ethics. Again, perfectly shows her hypocrisy.

Really, it's that she doesn't have her bk!counterpart's ruthless politicking except in one episode out of 10 (the 6th one). It's ruined by the implication that she cannot really think or reason bc she was SAed for most of her married life and pimped out, which spells some disturbing, oversimplifying implications for SA victims and esp those who are femme, female identifying, or women/girls. From the already-there notion of femininity being innately "irrational", creative, and nonintellectual.

But I also ultimately agree with you abt her being more a plot device than a character who does what the script of the day requires her---once more, bc she's forced to delusionally see possible friendship in Rhaenyra AND bc she doesn't have a clear, steady, personal motive separate from the stuff Otto-the-individual imparts on her and that guides her actions aside from blind envy and a need to see everyone conform towards the "peace for the realm" that she herself doesn't even follow. Not like with Rhaenyra's desire to find some sort of functioning and the least self-erasing compromise b/t duty and happiness/autonomy when we see her w/Aemma.

We never truly established what Alicent wanted at the core--in the bk, that was the highest rank, prestige, etc. possible for a woman. In the first season, all the possible possibilities and things you can see in Olivia's portrayals show a woman wanting to find final validation within the system...but we needed a more concrete aim aside from her jealousy and other than fear of her kids dying, which is what we were left with. Show!Alicent went wherever the wind took her (the wind here Otto, perceived expectations of her, and her own resentments). That's the heart of the grand inconsistency, I think. The void that is this character.

They never replaced Alicent's loss of ambition with something just as self-serving than just "she should suffer like me" that guides and justifies that inner feeling into the real world. Something that would keep her interesting and engaged with the war players.

Rhaenyra still has huge issues in her characterization that I already went over in other posts. This article by some Substack writer also gets into it, but overall, Rhaenyra is more steady & concrete than Alicent.

Welcome to a series of MMN blogs where I’ll be looking at where we, Onyx Path, are with some of our methods of getting our projects out to you all. Seems to make sense here at the start of 2019.

Today, the topic is Kickstarters.

A little backstory:

Onyx Path ran our first Kickstarter for the V20 Companion in early 2012, the same year as we started publishing. Crowdfunding was a wild and wooly place back then, and KS was starting to be the “brand name” for the process.

I’d watched a few of our friends run campaigns, both successful and failed, and knew going into it that neither myself, who was running the whole thing, nor Justin, who was the developer of the book and as interested as I was in this new method of financing a project, really knew how it would turn out.

When I had put together Onyx Path as a publishing business, I hadn’t considered crowd-funding, but Justin and I had heard enough from our Vampire community clamoring for the V20 Companion to be a matching Deluxe book to V20 to know that we should figure out how to do it in a Deluxe format. Kickstarter seemed a way to get the needed upfront money for the Deluxe treatment.

Otherwise, the V20 Companion would have been available as PDF and PoD versions on DTRPG only. We just didn’t have the cash to pay the printer what they needed upfront to purchase all the Deluxe cover material, create embossing stamps, all that.

So, that’s how it started, this wild and tumultuous affair with Kickstarter that we’ve had for seven years and 33 Kickstarter campaigns.

Here’s where we are now:

I told you all that so I could tell you this. We started with a very simple need – to afford a deluxe cover – and every single KS we did taught us more and more about how to run a KS.

If you joined us along the way, there may have been a method we used that turned you off, or another that you thought was awesome. From our point of view, we were learning how to do it well. Stretch Goals, Rewards, Add-ons, voting for sections in the books, when to run it, how much text to have finished and how much to share. The list goes on of the elements we have tried to add with some degree of success or another.

Now, this year, our KSs mostly have a few elements in common, like we try and keep the Reward Tiers to a smallish number, we go live only after we have all the text we need finished, and we reveal that text in chunks during the Kickstarter.

Getting Projects Into Stores:

Unlike when we started, we’re now doing most of our KSs with the stated goal of paying for a traditional print run that covers not just the backers’ copies but also to print an amount that will go into stores via our sales partners at Studio2 and IPR (who are they? look below in the Blurbs! section).

We might still do some Deluxes along the way, don’t worry, or some other special projects, but we’re exploring this trad printing option right now.

This greatly increases our retail options, which is a good thing as it’s another way for folks to get our games, and adds to the value of the Retailer Reward Tiers that have been a part of our KSs since the first couple of them.

Now Retailers can choose to wait and order the projects when they are made available through distribution channels, or they can opt in for pledging to the Retailer Reward Tier and get the copies earlier, with some bonus Screens and the Stretch Goal rewards they can sell or give away, and if they have polled their customers to get confirmed sales – those are books they don’t need to worry about selling off their shelves.

Getting Projects Out In a Timely Manner:

There’s no question about it, we prioritized everything else over hitting the Kickstarter estimates. This wasn’t because we didn’t care about them, but because we cared more about the quality of the projects we were creating.

And, in fact, still do.

BUT, we’ve leveraged our experience and are making sure that our Kickstarter projects have completed text before we go live with the KS now, which eliminates a huge percentage of our timeliness issues while still allowing our creators the time they need to insure high quality writing and rules.

That means that we have a bit less flexibility in the sorts of Rewards and Stretch Goals that add to the KS’d project itself, but its a trade-off that is working out pretty well. And we still have Stretch Goals that build additional and Companion books, so those extra sections are still being created.

Since we’ve put the “No KS without complete text” rule into effect, we’ve delivered Monarchies of Mau, Cavaliers of Mars, and Changeling: The Lost 2nd Edition earlier than estimated, and things still look great for Fetch Quest and Dragon-Blooded. To name a couple close to shipping.

Now no doubt, we’re still popping out projects that had troubled histories from before that methodology went into effect, so it did take us a while to get to this stage, but we’re here now and it’s working great.

Getting Projects to Backers (Kickstarter Shipping):

This is an ugly topic, I’m afraid. Don’t let the kids see it.

The biggest negative aspect of a Kickstarter campaign, in terms of costs and time spent, is shipping the rewards out. Shipping costs are insane if you are shipping from the US to anywhere outside the US. We look for working partnerships with shippers around the world to offset some of those prices, and sometimes it works.

We have seen shipping costs on some projects as high as $50 an average to Canada, $64 on average to the EU, and $70 as a rest of the world average. Then there are customs fees on top of that. So, like I say, we keep looking for alternatives.

Plus, now we hear that USPS, who is often used as the middle-man by the big-name shippers, is raising their rates, so we’ll need to deal with that.

We also have been through another round of getting quotes from fulfillment shippers, and trying to find ones that can be relied on and stay reliable (and that we can afford) has been, and may always be, an ongoing process.

Sorry, I know that just reading about these issues is a drag, but they are a very real challenge that we work on with each KS. We’ve tried the “tack the shipping price on after the KS” method, and that was received…poorly by the backers.

We also can’t sidestep the whole thing and “eat the costs” or even a decent bite of them. We just aren’t Amazon, for good or ill, and our volume of ship-out packages is not even close to being in the zone where a company can do that.

So, we keep on baking in the shipping costs as best as we can accurately estimate them with our fulfillment partners, and at least our backers can look at that and what they see is what they get.

Getting Projects Kickstarted:

This is kind of a catch-all topic. First, there’s the question of which projects we are KSing. What’s the criteria? Well, new game line core books, to start. We want those in stores, and we want folks to find out about them, and Kickstarter does both of those things for us.

There are also the Deluxe Exalted “fatsplat” books, which we look at as a part of a series, the core CofD 2nd Edition books, and select WoD supplements. Doing the V5 Chicago By Night Kickstarter, for example, gave us that visibility I mentioned above, as well as a chance to let backers, and by extension the larger WoD community, a chance to see where we would be going with the text.

Basically, do we think the project would benefit more from being KS’d than not, and not all would.

Next in this topic, we have the way our KSs are now run thanks to our “Kickstarter Concierge” James Bell, who sets up all our KSs now, makes sure that they are run as we’ve agreed – and fun for our backers is a HUGE part of that – and then creates and runs the BackerKit back-end site after the KS is over.

Having a dedicated Kickstarter runner has made a huge difference in customer service, and as my list of Kickstarters that I ran keeps shrinking, I am so glad that I could pass on the responsibilities of handling our KSs to James.

I mentioned that James is also running our post-Kickstarter BackerKit sites, and BK has also been a huge help in the handling of our KSs. We now use them for every KS; they are just set up to make it so much easier to track all the rewards folks can pledge for and Add-on, and for us to get out to backers. More accurate for the backers, and faster for us: win/win.

Finally, we’re trying a new thing this coming year, as even with James, we’re hard-pressed to run all the Kickstarter campaigns we’d like to – that we think would be good for the projects we’re making.

Our friends and Handiwork Games will be creating the Scarred Lands 5e Creature Collection and then running its Kickstarter on a new Onyx Path Publishing Kickstarter account. If this works out, we’ll have more flexibility on which KSs happen when, and we’ll look at how things go and maybe we’ll have more of our projects KS’d by other folks.
