Thoughts on seeing Westallen's morning routine?
I LOVED IT.
That level of casual romance and domestic bliss is the kind of content that some viewers may see as unnecessary fluff, but I view it as essential to the believability and strength of an on-screen couple.
There's no denying that Grant Gustin and Candice Patton have some of the best chemistry in the Arrowevere (Let alone on TV), so it is a freaking blast to watch them bring those quieter moments to life between Barry and Iris.
It's not always life-or-death situations with big bads, or at least it shouldn't be. Sometimes it's about taking a beat and reassessing that a very stable, in-love couple is still on the same page about their future. Sometimes it's about reaffirming that you're on the same team; everything works better when you're partners.
Sometimes it's about those understated romantic beats of how a couple exists in their shared, safe space and how they foster their long-standing relationship through the little things like morning check-ins and well-wishes before a big day at work.
Those things matter SO MUCH to me, and it's exciting to see The Flash kick off its final season (!!!) with reminders that WestAllen deserves that AND MORE.

The series finale of THE FLASH feels more like a season finale, though that's not necessarily a bad thing; just quieter and less closing-the-book than I expected. As a fan who has mostly dropped off this season (sorry!!) I generally liked the episode... The fight scenes are missing the scale and choreography of earlier seasons. But what really works is the emotional moments between characters, which ultimately is what counts. Grant Gustin and Candice Patton are stand-outs, of course, but the stealth hero is Jesse L. Martin.

Candice Patton / She/Her / Cis Woman | Have you met DINA THOMAS yet? They’re the THIRTY-FOUR year old EVENING NEWS ANCHOR that lives around FINCH PARK. I think they’ve lived in Seattle for ONE MONTH. From what I’ve heard, they’re HEARTFELT but once you’ve known them long enough you’ll find they can also be TEMPERAMENTAL. When I think of them, I usually think of GOOD DAYS by SZA. (OOC: Jessa, 24, she/her, EST)
BASICS!
nickname(s): dee, didi age: thirty-four date of birth: june 29, 1988 zodiac sign: cancer gender/pronouns: cis woman sexual orientation: pansexual romantic orientation: panromantic residence: finch park occupation: evening news anchor for king 5 news
Dina Emerson Thomas grew up in a suburb of Houston, Texas in a huge tight-knit family that's been part of the community for decades. Her father, Maxwell, worked as a semi-truck driver for touring artists whereas her mother, Samira, was a homemaker. Her father made a name of himself within his industry, and he brought up his three children up in a good home. Dina was the name from of her great-grandmother on her mother's side, and Emerson was her paternal great-grandmother's name. So many traditional names were inherited, so it was almost as if she had a lot to live up to.
Being the baby of the family as well as the only girl meant that Dina grew up somewhat spoiled and protected. Though, she wasn't protected in the way of being sheltered. Instead, her family helped her learn to stand up for herself. They wanted to protect her, but they also knew that they wouldn't be around all the time. So instead of fending off people who might hurt her, they gave her the tools necessary to defend herself.
While her father and brothers taught her to be tough, her mother taught her to be classy and elegant. Her mother taught her to be sensitive to others and empathetic to their issues. She also taught her to love the softer things in life and made sure that Dina was aware that being a free-spoken woman didn't mean she couldn't embrace her childlike wonder or romantic side. Growing up in a well rounded environment allowed her to become the woman she is today - a lovely mix of sweet and sassy, confident and independent, caring but not too naive.
Dina did fairly well in school because there was always someone to ask for help when it came to her school work. What she didn't do well at, surprisingly, was social interaction. As outgoing as her family members seemed to be, Dina was a bit more on the reserved side in public and chose to stick to herself or the one or two friends she made that moved with her through school. Her parents worried a bit about her development, but eventually gave up, figuring she'd come into her own and break out of her shell when she was ready.
Dina was never really that rebellious teenager that would sneak out in the middle of the night, but she never did adhere to a curfew. She often came home later than she was supposed to only to get yelled at in the morning. She would excuse herself by telling them she had a poor sense of time, which didn't really work. Her parents were never awfully strict though, so they would forget about it later on. They knew she wasn't going out doing drugs. That was something she never experimented with.
Entering into high school was a bit scary for Dina. Everyone was talking about crushes on boys while she looked around and had crushes on boys and girls. Not knowing what she was feeling, she talked to her parents about it and they reassured her that they would love her no matter what. It allowed Dina to feel comfortable about exploring her feelings without worrying about if she would be unaccepted. After dating a few different people, she knew she was pansexual and felt comfortable with finally labeling herself.
When it came time to apply to college, Dina knew that she wanted to go into something that was in journalism. Her passion for telling stories kicked into high gear after spending her years in high school behind an anchor desk for the school's news, and getting the feel of what it would be like to be a broadcast journalist. After looking through her options, she settled on going to school in Missouri and eventually graduated with a bachelor's degree in journalism. Afterwards, she accepted an offer from a local station in Atlanta, Georgia where she worked hard to gain respect. In the mean time, she fell in love with Sunny Fletcher and soon found herself in a serious relationship. However, Dina called it quits after many years into their relationship when she began to feel like she was an afterthought to Sunny, not wanting to be in a relationship that mirrored her parents where she spent more time missing her partner than being with them.
Dina spent her first night after the breakup in bed, crying. She realized that she was terrified of being alone. Before the breakup, she felt like her life had been set in stone for her by Sunny's job and had too much pride to tell her ex-girlfriend how she really felt. But Dina looked at her life and kept pushing forward. Her mother started nagging her about the life that she had given up. Her father tried to support her as much as possible since she was still his little girl.
After spending many years in Atlanta, Dina felt like she needed a change of scenery to help her feel like herself again. She was ready to try to be happier in a place that didn't have memories tied to her ex. And so, Dina picked a spot on the map and drove to Seattle and wanted to make a name for herself. It wasn't long before she got a job offer to replace one of the evening news anchors who worked at King 5 News before she did. Dina moved into a small place in Finch Park and started subletting her place in Atlanta after she left it. Seattle was going to be her new home.
Now she's trying to make her life happier by going out and shedding the life she had in Atlanta. Granted, she sounds like a definite outsider in this big city. Maybe she would be better off staying in Atlanta and powering through it, but she has a plan. That plan: just be happier. Though, to be honest, asking her to describe how she truly feels at any given time would be a disaster and while she is always happy to put on the mask - whoever was necessary to be - it never feels completely natural. But she is good at hiding her emotions.
It's only been a year after their breakup and Dina is still feeling some remnants of their relationship. Dina is coping with life on her own and sometimes she gets mad at herself as she could have been making lifelong plans with Sunny by now, but she pulls herself together. And in this new environment, she's already working on getting the most out of the city. But there's one thing she forgot about Seattle before she took the leap... Sunny Fletcher also lives in the city.
HEADCANONS!
She's not a super great cook and when she knows she has to be a host, she brings home carry out and fixes them up a bit and makes them kinda fancy. Other than that, she's usually dining on takeout. That also means that she's looking forward to enjoying and exploring Seattle's exploding restaurant scene.
She really loves traveling - a bucket list goal of hers is to travel to each continent around the world.
She enjoys being active outside and exploring national and state parks. She loves hiking, and can't wait to explore more of the areas around Seattle.
Playing board games and visiting bars are common weekend activities for her.
She is a huge music fan - specifically 90s r&b! She grew up playing the piano and occasionally still finds time to play.
She's also is a huge sports fan. She follows Houston sports extensively, especially the Houston Rockets. When she isn't working, you can catch her with some sort of game on if she isn't at one in person.
She loves volunteering and is always looking to meet people around the community.
She grew up doing competitive dance and cheer. While in Georgia, her favorite activity was teaching contemporary and hip-hop-inspired routines at various dance studios in Atlanta and hopes to make that happen in Seattle.
Other activities she enjoys are working out, going to brunch, shopping and watching Netflix.
She has trouble expressing her emotions in a positive way. Meaning that she tends to avoid them and how she feels sometimes until they bottle up and explode, leading to arguments with loved ones where she doesn't have the words to express how she feels. She's a lot more sensitive than she lets on. The kind of person that would cry and then five minutes later be like "well, that was embarrassing as fucking shit, so let's never mention it again." So… she leaves. Which is how she ended up in Seattle, to be honest.
She will do anything if it's a dare/competition, case and point: reigning champion at an Atlanta restaurant for eating the most hot dogs in two minutes (and she's literally so proud about it).
Dina says she likes scary movies but actually ends up hiding her face in someone's chest for the entire movie… literally. She peeks out and then hides again. It's pathetic.
She used to help out with her grandmother's yard sales and would hustle people for twice their money on items that she had an attachment to.
(injury tw) Once broke her leg falling out of a tree she had climbed, and had her brothers decorate the cast with various doodles and drawings.
(nsfw tw) She has a sex toy collection, self explanatory.
likes: sunsets, journaling, mountains, audiobooks, homecooked meals, dancing, concerts, the spring season, oversized sweaters, found family, pizza, tea, word puzzles, solo dance parties, cheese, candles, nature, red wine, movie dates, hugs, spicy food, stargazing, new clothes, sushi, high heels, the beach, shared playlists, cats, gold jewelry, leftover chinese food.
dislikes: cooking, coffee, waffles, true crime tv shows, rainy days, driving, cherries, early mornings, intense and emotional conversations, socks, .
aspirations: make new friends in town, further her career in journalism, providing a platform for people to voice their concerns about their community, continue to report ethically while disseminating information people want to, need to, or ought to know.
pet-peeves: people who talk with their mouth full, people who don't respect service workers, people who don't use their manners, wearing wet clothes, waking up before her alarm clock, finding out she has lipstick on her teeth.
PLOTTING + WANTED CONNECTIONS
PLATONIC
Okay, so, Dina is new in town. She's extremely quiet, but she's friendly. She's not one to go out and actively search for people/friends, but she's an absolute sweetheart so she'd be more than open to friendships with as many people as possible. She works as an evening news anchor for King 5 News, but she spends most of her time in Seattle trying to make her life over, so really if anyone is willing to go out on a limb and make her their friend, she would literally do anything they want. That's just how she makes friends. Her friends, however, are going to have to be able to deal with someone who may literally lock herself in her house with a large pizza and not speak to anyone for days. Also, her friends will have to deal with her going a little overboard on making people happy. Overall, she has a good reputation and she's very affectionate and caring. Once someone is in her heart, they have a place in it forever.
While she can sometimes be a tad too intrusive, she rarely shares much about herself that she considers too 'heavy'. The kind of person that would suggest waving away issues instead of confronting them (or just jumping in headfirst without much thought), she's probably not the best person to go to for solid advice but she does a good enough job of making those she cares about feel better, even if it's only for a little while.
Surprisingly not that big on the party scene, but she does frequent such spaces since she likes having the company around, so she's probably gathered a fair amount of party friends during her stay here.
ANTAGONISTIC
As easy as it is for Dina to try and befriend people, it might be even easier for her to rub people the wrong way. Sometimes on purpose, sometimes not. And while it unfortunately isn't too hard for her to fall out of contact with friends, keeping enemies is something that she's far better at doing. She's got a knack for holding grudges and being a pain in the ass.
Peace, love, more tolerance… is what Dina would say if some people didn't make her eyes roll into the back of her head more times than she could count, if she bothered to count at all. Every now and again, Dina has these moments when she's so eager to argue with someone that she could jump into arguments she has no place being in, largely because she can never keep her opinions to herself. And why should she? In her mind, everything she says is brilliant and also the cold hard truth, and anyone that says otherwise should be ready to have Dina talk their ears off about how wrong they are. Plus, she has to flush out all that frustration she never addresses somehow, right?
ROMANTIC
Outside of going on dates here and there and maybe one or two one-night-stands, Dina hasn't really had too much of a love life since she moved to Seattle. Granted, she recently got out of a pretty serious relationship just a year ago. She is a hopeless romantic, so she wants to be swept off of her feet eventually. Also, her mom is jumping down her throat to just settle down and have kids, so she's probably going to be putting that off as much as humanly people.
I'm pretty open to any kind of connections, so hit me up on here or on Discord!
CONNECTIONS
FRIENDS - Dina is an easy person to get along with, she has a competitive streak, and hates admitting when she is wrong sometimes. She wants to have a group of friends that she can confide in when she needs to talk to someone. She can be serious most of time, especially with work, but she has a comedic side where she can be funny. They do almost everything together, go out to eat, going to concerts, exploring Seattle, and sporting events. These friends can be people that she has recently met or we can plot something else, etc.
SUNNY FLETCHER (ex-girlfriend) - tbd.
MELODY GUERRERO (co-worker) - tbd.
NATE HEWITT (neighbor) - tbd.

My thoughts as of late have circled around questioning who lied, who’s telling the truth, and who benefits from (name) the policy. American-centric, I have studied people like Patton and to better understand him, the time in which he lived and those people who influenced him and those with whom he surrounded himself (I call them satellites). Studying one, leads to studying others. From Patton to MacArthur, to Eisenhower, to FDR, to Churchill, to Truman, to Wilson(Woodrow), etc.,etc., etc..
Terry Melcher, son of actress Doris Day, was a record producer. He was dating/living with actress Candice Bergen. He also recorded a number of singles for The Beach Boys. At that same time, Brian Wilson of The Beach Boys was working with none other than Charlie Manson.
Melcher and Bergen sold their house to Roman Polanski and his wife actress Sharon Tate. Angry that he’d been cut out of the record deals, Manson was unaware that the house had been sold. He gave the street address to his followers and sent them to kill anyone and everyone at the address. Charlie thought they were killing Melcher and Bergen.
So, why would the police and the “news” media sell the story of a race war? It was a tumultuous time. Detroit had been torched the year prior - over the racial divide caused wholly by Democrat policies of Jim Crow. Bobby Kennedy had been assassinated as had Martin Luther King, Jr..
In the late 1950’s, Eisenhower as President called upon Congress to present him a Civil Rights bill that was supposed to be his legacy legislation. It did well in the Republican held lower house, but stalled in the Democrat Senate (upper house). It wasn’t until after the bill was rewritten and rendered worthless that the Democrats passed the legislation. Who rewrote the bill? Senate Majority Leader LBJ and his underling, JFK. The question everyone should be asking is “Why would LBJ in the course of six years suddenly reverse course of 200+ years of institutional racism?” The answer is esoteric. The answer is Telstar. The communications satellite launched in 1962. LBJ was acutely and painfully aware that how he “handled” the racial divide he and his party had caused was being watched live stream all over the world.
It was LBJ who wantonly took the country to war in Vietnam - a war set in motion by FDR and Truman. The war Dick Nixon as VP wanted to take the country into. The war to which Eisenhower said “No.”.
So the question in my mind stands, why would the politicians, the police - enforcing the laws written by those politicians, and the “news” media say the Tate murders committed by Charlie Manson and his followers were intended to start a race war? Who benefits? The same politicians who insisted that there was a sudden and as of yet unexplained swap of political ideologies.

Always omitting Simone from talks about racism.
Not you ignoring everything I wrote and trying to use me not adding someone as a "gotcha". Like if your mad about me talking about the hate Charithra Chandran got from the fandom then just say so (always hating on this poor woman and people who talk about her experiences). My post was about actors who receive hate because they are/were viewed by the fandom as "getting in the way" of a fictional ship, something that impacted Charithra specifically because some Bridgerton fans hated on her in the view of her standing in the way of Kathony, as if she did so purposefully when she was just doing what her job they asked her to do. This wasn't about Simone because the hate I was talking about was specifically towards Charithra from the Bridgerton fandom, and it was very obvious (or so I thought until you came around). And the other poc actors that I mentioned, while facing other forms of racism outside of this specific topic I'm referring too, were also subjected to hate because they were "in the way" of a popular fictional ship (from the examples I listed there's Candice Patton from the Snowberry fandom, Kat Graham from some in the Delena fandom, Meagan Tandy from some in the Sterek fandom, etc). Even non poc actors are met with that too, so my post wasn't forgetting them either. I never said Simone didn't face racism (if you thought that than you're just making stuff up), especially considering in some of my post regarding Kate Sharma I talk about how some racial aspects in the fandom and the Bridgerton show effects her and other poc. She does face racism (I saw it when certain fans were mad she and other poc were casted in Bridgerton and we know why they were upset as its not rocket science---it's because of racism), but my og post didn't involve her in the specific thread because she wasn't subjected to it because of a fictional ship. Next time, if you didn't understand, just ask a question, politely might I add, on the original post and I would have explained it to you. Unless you had a different motive, considering your anonymous post, and wanted to turn it into something it's not.

Weird microaggressions lobbed at Iris West
Still calling her a barista even though she hasn’t been one since around mid season one (we’re coming up on season 5!)
Saying she’s dressed for the club
Saying that characters like Caitlin or Felicity (especially Felicity) are classier
Saying she’s stuck up, arrogant, or any word that can be construed as uppity

WestAllen fanfiction
Rated G 1216 words
Summary: Barry and Iris are surprised to find out that Iris is pregnant. They get an even bigger surprise at the first ultrasound.
This fic was written at the request of a donor to y fundraising page for the #IStandWithCandicePatton campaign supporting Girls Inc. Donate and request a WestAllen fic: https://give.girlsinc.org/fundraiser/1493317
“Why is the pink line already there?” Iris asked her husband as she studied the pregnancy test in her shaking hands.
“That’s just the control. Barry explained. “The one pink line is always there. If the test is positive, there will be two.”
Iris nodded to signal her understanding. She didn’t look up at Barry, her eyes were glued to the small plastic stick, which in that moment, seemed to be the most mighty object in the world. It held the answer to their future. Everything changes if there are two pink lines.
Barry handed Iris a glass of water. She’d already drank several glasses, but guzzled this one down as well. Drinking the water, having a task to do, somehow comforted Iris as worries swirled in her head. It made her feel like she had some control over the result.
Barry put his hands on Iris’ shoulders and rubbed up and down her arms. Iris looked up at him with trepidation. Instead of fear, Barry looked at her with glowing pride.
“You’re not nervous?” Iris asked.
“No.” Barry answered without hesitation. “Whatever the test says, it won’t change anything.”
“Barry, how can you say that? If we’re going to have a baby that changes everything!”
“No, it won’t.” Barry asserted. “It won’t change that fact that we’ll be together, loving each other, helping each other, and overcoming whatever obstacles come our way. It won’t change our friends and family, who’ll be here to support us. It won’t change how happy I am to be with you. And, it won’t change how beautiful I think you are.”
Iris smiled back at Barry. She was the writer, but he truly had a way with words. He always knew exactly what to say to make her feel better.
Barry held Iris against him. He stroked the back of her hair. “What are you most nervous about?”
“I don’t know.” Iris sighed. She rested her head on his chest. The hammering of his heartbeat thumped in her ear. “I guess, it feels so weird not knowing if I’m pregnant or not, and it feels even weirder not knowing if I want to be pregnant or not.”
Half of Iris wanted a positive test, the other half wanted a negative test. Theoretically, that should make this stress free, if she wants both equally. But, for some reason it was making things harder. Barry and Iris had talked about having kids before, even how they wanted to start trying soon. But, this was a little sooner than they’d planned.
Iris gazed up at Barry. Her thumb stroked his cheek.
“What do you hope the test says?”
For the first time, Barry looked unsure. His brows furrowed in consideration before he said, “I just want to know.”
“Me too. Maybe not knowing is the worst part.”
As Iris’ mind told her she was ready to take the test, her bladder also told her it was time. She moved slightly away from Barry.
“I’m going to take it now.”
Barry grabbed her hand and stopped her from going. He put a finger under her chin, making her look him in the eye.
“Timing has always been out problem.” He laughed.
Iris laughed too.
“Whatever it says,” Barry continued. “I’m going to trust that it’s what right for us for the time.”
“Ok.” Iris whispered. She looked back at the pregnancy test. “It will be one line or two?”
“One or two.” Barry repeated.
“One means not pregnant. Two means pregnant.”
“That’s right.”
Barry’s hands fell away and Iris walked into the bathroom. She took the test. Immediately after, there was still just one line. She sat it on the sink counter, knowing it could take two minutes before a second line appeared. She opened the door so that Barry could come in. They held each other, swaying gently.
It felt like they’d been standing there for hours. Iris was seriously considering asking Barry if he was moving with her in flashtime, when he said, “I think it’s time to look.”
Iris picked up the pregnancy test and looked at the pink lines.
Barry’s eyes were wide. “One or two?”
Iris turned the pregnancy test so that he could see for himself.
“Two.”
A few days later, a nurse escorted Barry and Iris into an exam room at the OB/GYN office. Iris and Barry locked hands as they answered all the questions. A technician rolled the ultrasound machine in. Iris lifted her shirt and the nurse splatter a cold, blue jelly over her lower abdomen.
“Would you like to hear the baby’s heartbeat?” The nurse offered.
Barry and Iris nodded eagerly.
THUMPTHUMPTHUMPTHUMPTHUMPTHUMPTHUMPTHUMPTHUMPTHUMPTHUMPTHUMPTHUMPTHUMPTHUMPTHUMPTHUMPTHUMP
The baby’s heartbeat was a a rapid, pounding, thunderous sound. It was going very fast. Faster than Iris had ever heard any heart beat, even Barry’s. At first, Iris thought the sound was beautiful. She and Barry looked at each with mirroring smiles and eyes swimming in happy tears. But, when they looked at the Nurse, their faces fell.
“What’s wrong?” Iris cried. She suddenly felt like she was going to throw up.
The nurse excused herself. “I’m going to get Dr. Adams. We’ll be right back.”
Iris lurched up from the exam chair. She looked at Barry in a panic.
“What do you think that means?”
Barry squeezed Iris’ hand tight. “I don’t know.”
“If the heartbeat was too fast, it could be because the baby is a speedster. We should have told her that’s a possibility. If the baby is a speedster than everything is fine, right? It just means the heartbeat will be fast, like yours.” Iris rambled anxiously. She wasn’t sure if she was saying this to comfort Barry or herself.
The door opened and the Doctor entered.
“Hi Mr. and Mrs.-”
“Is our baby ok?” Barry and Iris both interrupted.
“That’s what I’m going to make sure of.” Dr. Adams said, sitting down to look at the ultrasound image. She moved the probe around on Iris’ belly.
The silence in the room was deafening. Iris couldn’t take it anymore.
“What’s going on?” Iris demanded.
Dr. Adams smiled. She tilted the ultrasound screen towards Barry and Iris.
“Here is your perfectly healthy baby.” She pointed to a black blob on the grainy screen.
Barry gasped and Iris cried. It didn’t look like a baby, it didn’t really look like anything. But, knowing that it was theirs was an indescribable feeling.
“And here,” The Doctor spoke again, pointing to another black blob on the screen. “Is your other perfectly healthy baby.”
Iris blinked. She thought she’d misheard the Doctor.
Barry’s mouth was hanging open.
“The baby is ok?” Iris asked again, a hint of worry still plaguing her.
“They are both fine.” The Doctor assured her.
“B- both?” Barry stammered.
“Baby A and baby B.” The Doctor said, tapping the blobs.
Iris stared at the ultrasound in disbelief. “There’s two?”
“I’m sorry if I scared you before.” The nurse said. “I thought I heard two heartbeats and needed Dr. Adams to confirm it.”
“Two heartbeats?” Iris repeated the information as she tried to process it.
“Two heartbeats, two babies.” Dr. Adams said. “You’re having twins.”
Barry and Iris looked at each in shared astonishment.
“Two.” Iris mouthed.
“I can’t believe it!” Barry cried. “We’re gonna need more diapers.”
