Ekko is a character who’s way better in the lore than in-game. An orphan with a heart of gold doesn’t translate well into this immortal bastard who bursts your entire team before pressing one button to instantly get all his health back. Regardless Ekko has a simple kit that makes him easy to adapt into the meta and very fun to play! And who doesn’t want to time travel?

GOALS

Don't blink! - Shattering time means that you can zip around in the blink of an eye.

If you can’t make the most out of any given moment... - Then you don’t deserve a single extra second. Thankfully we’ll have a lot of chances to make the most out of every single second.

RACE

Ekko is a human but he’s very different from all the other kids in Zaun, making him a Variant Human. As a Variant Human you get a +1 increase to two skills of your choice: choose Dexterity and Wisdom to keep on your feet with your wits about you. You also learn a language and a skill of your choice: your language doesn’t matter much but for skills pick Perception to notice exactly how you can defeat your foe without too many rewinds.

But of course the main appeal of Variant Humans is the ability to get a Feat at level 1, and when it’s time to rewind look no further than the Lucky feat. You have 3 Luck points (or as I like to call them Rewind Die) that you can spend to roll an extra d20 on an attack roll, ability check, or saving throw. You can choose which d20 result you want to use after rolling your Rewind Die.

The best part about Lucky? You can use it against enemies too! If an enemy attacks you you can also roll to potentially make them miss! Remember that you only have 3 rewinds which only come back on a Long Rest, so use them wisely!

ABILITY SCORES

15; DEXTERITY - Shattering time means you can zip around at the blink of an eye.

14; INTELLIGENCE - Ekko created a time travel machine, as well as many other inventions that would put the Pilties to shame.

13; WISDOM - Ekko stays in Zaun because he cares about the people.

12; CHARISMA - Ekko’s a good kid, as evidenced by how many skins he has.

10; CONSTITUTION - You can take a hit but you’re still primarily an assassin.

8; STRENGTH - You’re a kid who fights with nothing more than a bat. A magic clock bat, but not a heavy bat.

Feel free to swap Charisma and Constitution if you want more health but weaker RP.

BACKGROUND

Ekko is an Urchin but he doesn’t really fit the typical description (he has parents, for one), so I’m going to suggest changing it up some. Swap your proficiencies out for Acrobatics and Investigation to puzzle your way though defeating your foes, and your tools for Tinkerer’s Tools and Smith’s Tools to make your gadgets.

But your feature City Secrets still fits you perfectly, allowing you to easily make your way around the streets of Zaun without getting lost. I mean, you probably do get lost sometimes but your party doesn’t need to know that.

THE BUILD

LEVEL 1 - WIZARD 1

Oh boy my favorite class that I have to spend way too long explaining! Regardless Wizard is the perfectly class for smart kids who use magical time-warping devices. You get proficiency in two skills from the Wizard list and I’d opt for Arcana for knowledge of your Z-Drive and History for knowledge of what happened. Because you were there!

As a Wizard you also get access to Spellcasting. You learn 3 cantrips from the Wizard list: Ray of Frost lets you toss out a Timewinder to slow and damage your foes, Mending will let you reverse any small damage an object may have received, and Message will let you coordinate in team chat. You also learn 6 spells at level 1 with Wizard, but you can prepare a number of spells equal to your Intelligence modifier plus your Wizard level:

Absorb Elements will let you resist some incoming magic before returning it with Z-Drive Resonance.

Alarm will let you know that someone’s coming, or rather reverse time when they do arrive to give you time to prepare.

Detect Magic will help you figure out what any Hextech might do.

False Life can give you a Parallel Convergence shield.

Both Mage Armor and Shield will help you defend yourself and dodge attacks you wouldn’t otherwise be able to avoid.

Need a break from all that time warping? Arcane Recovery lets you recover spell slots equal to half your Wizard level, rounded up. Confused how it works? Read it yourself because I’m bad at explaining it.

LEVEL 2 - WIZARD 2

At level 2 you can choose your Arcane Tradition. Oh man if only there was a tradition dedicated specifically to time manipulation... oh wait Chronurgy Magic, which is automatically one of the better ones because it isn’t a school! Regardless Chronurgy Wizards get Temporal Awareness, letting them add their Intelligence modifier to Initiative rolls.

They can also turn back time with Chronal Shift! As a reaction you can force yourself or another creature to reroll an attack roll, ability check, or saving throw. The target must use the result of the second roll, and you can choose to use the ability after knowing the original result. You can rewind twice per Long Rest but that should be more than enough to find the perfect way around a problem! (Especially with Lucky helping you as well!)

You can also add two more spells to your spell list: Gift of Alacrity is a Chronurgy-specific spell that lets you prepare to add a d8 to a creature’s initiative check, so you can make sure your initiator is the first in the fight! If you want to slow everyone down however Earth Tremor will force enemies in an area to make a Dexterity saving throw or be knocked prone, and regardless of if they succeed or fail they’ll still be slowed by difficult terrain!

LEVEL 3 - RANGER 1

What? You didn’t think this was just a pure book nerd build, did you? Nah Ekko’s a special kid who knows Zaun like the back of his hand: sounds like a proper city Ranger! You get proficiency in one skill from the Ranger list when you multiclass, so grab Insight to know what people are going to do after they did it... before they did it!

Class Feature Variants is an Unearthed Arcana that’s soon going to be made official so I’m going to use Ranger features from that PDF instead. Deft Explorer lets you choose from one of three benefits: Roving lets you speed yourself up by 5 feet and also gives you a climbing speed to climb clock towers and a swimming speed to... swim. Favored Foe meanwhile lets you cast Hunter’s Mark a number of times equal to your Wisdom modifier without using Concentration, for some more Z-Drive Resonance!

LEVEL 4 - RANGER 2

Second level Rangers get a Fighting Style and I figure now would be a good time to talk about Ekko’s weapon: he uses the clock needle of his as a bat most of the time but a club is a simple weapon that uses Strength and does very little damage. As a Ranger you have proficiency in martial weapons so I’m pretty sure that needle could be passed off as a short sword. Fight the short sword in your main hand and nothing in the other, or grab a shield just for the sake of the AC: regardless Dueling will make your sword do +2 damage.

You also get access to Spellcasting! Again! Check chapter 6 of the Player’s Handbook for information on how multiclassing between full casters and half casters works, but you get two first level Ranger spells: to dash in and strike an important target Zephyr Strike will let you avoid opportunity attacks and do an extra d8 damage on hit, letting you ride Z-Drive Resonance out with 30 more movement speed. If you want to stun a target for a beat down Ensnaring Strike will restrain them with vines. Time vines! Yeah...

LEVEL 5 - RANGER 3

Third level Rangers can choose their Ranger Conclave (or subclass as its otherwise known.) Time to up the Z-Drive with Horizon Walker! Horizon Walkers can Detect Portals within 1 mile of them but that’s not important. What’s important is that they have Planar Warrior, letting them use their Bonus Action to make their weapon do magic (Force) damage and deliver an extra d8 damage thanks to Z-Drive Resonance! (I’ve been mentioning that a lot, haven’t I?)

You also get Primal Awareness from the Class Feature Variants UA for the ability to cast Detect Magic and Speak with Animals once per Long Rest without using a spell slot. Think you’ve got enough magic? Well Horizon Walker Spells give you Protection from Evil and Good as a Ranger spell, and you can add one more spell to your list like Jump to Phase Dive across leaps and bounds... look level 1 Ranger spells suck give me a break! Take Cure Wounds if you want something more useful!

LEVEL 6 - RANGER 4

4th level Rangers get their first Ability Score Improvement: to keep elusive and hit hard with your bat shortsword get more Dexterity.

LEVEL 7 - RANGER 5

5th level Rangers get an Extra Attack, letting them attack twice when they use the Attack action. It should be mentioned that Planar Warrior will only make your first attack forceful while your second attack will do regular damage.

You can also learn second level Ranger spells like Pass Without a Trace. You’ve got all the time in the world to sneak around, and you’ve also got all the time in the world to figure out why the Ranger spell list sucks so much where you refuse to take Healing spells. At least you get access to Beast Sense and Locate Animals or Plants thanks to Primal Awareness, and Flash (I mean Misty Step) from your Horizon Walker Spells!

LEVEL 8 - RANGER 6

At 6th level you get another ability from Deft Explorer: Canny lets you learn one skill of your choice from a given list, and get Expertise in any of those skills that you know. (That isn’t quite how it works but that’s how I make it work for convenience's sake.) Expertise in Perception will let you spot any valuable junk in the Zaun trash heaps, and Stealth proficiency will help you get away with your loot! You also learn two languages which uhhh... just pick whatever really. You’ve got plenty of time to talk to people.

LEVEL 9 - RANGER 7

7th level Horizon Walkers can phase out of time with Ethereal Step, letting them cast Eternalness for a turn once per short or long rest. Not something that Ekko can normally do but you can accomplish a lot while messing with time.

Speaking of accomplishing a lot you get another spell: Darkvision will help your regular human eyes see why kids love the taste of Cinnamon Toast Crunch! Wait...

LEVEL 10 - RANGER 8

8th level Rangers get another Ability Score Improvement: max out your Dexterity to be as quick as you can when striking down your foes. You also get Land’s Stride to move through difficult terrain without using extra movement, avoid taking damage from nonmagical plants, and have advantage against magical plants. How does a kid from Zaun know his way around dangerous plants? Well you had plenty of time to read up on botany.

LEVEL 11 - RANGER 9

9th level Rangers get access to third level spells. With Primal Awareness you learn Speak with Plants (look, I can’t justify everything in this build. D&D isn’t Runeterra), and as a Horizon Walker you get access to Haste! You can also find your ways around the dark streets of Zaun more easily thanks to the spell Daylight.

LEVEL 12 - RANGER 10

10th level Rangers can get the last feature from Deft Explorer: Tireless lets you spend an action to give yourself temporary hit points equal to 1d10 + your Wisdom modifier. You can do this a number of times equal to your Wisdom modifier, and you regain all expended uses when you finish a long rest. Additionally your Exhaustion goes down by 1 every time you finish a Short or Long rest.

And while Hide in Plain Sight may make more sense for Ekko, Fade Away is just so much better. You can use your Bonus Action to turn invisible for a turn! Maybe you turned back time to the DOTA days when Shadow Blade was an item you build buy? Yeah I know DOTA.

LEVEL 13 - RANGER 11

11th level Horizon Walkers can finally Phase Dive with Distant Strike! When you take the Attack action, you can teleport up to 10 feet before each attack to an unoccupied space you can see. Additionally, if you attack at least two different creatures with the action, you can make a three hit combo against a third creature!

You can also learn another spell at this level, and while there are a lot of options to choose from I’d personally suggest some magic resistance. Protection from Energy will let you put on an Adaptive Helm to resist a certain type of elemental damage.

LEVEL 14 - RANGER 12

12th level Rangers get an Ability Score Improvement and since your Dexterity is maxed out now would be a good time to hit the books and increase your Intelligence!

LEVEL 15 - WIZARD 3

Hey remember when we took levels in Wizard way back at levels 1 and 2? Well third level Wizards can learn 2nd level Wizard spells! Blur will make it harder for an enemy to hit you unless they can sense where you really are, and if you want even more chances to turn back time Fortune’s Favor is a spell reserved to Chronurgy Wizards (and Graviturgy Wizards) that lets them give themselves or an ally some more time with an extra d20 to roll in case they’re in danger!

LEVEL 16 - WIZARD 4

4th level Wizards get another Ability Score Improvement: more Intelligence will help with all the time manipulation.

You can also add another 2 spells to your spellbook, and you learn another cantrip! Sapping Sting is a Dunamancy-specific cantrip and it can make your opponent trip! If you want to be even harder to hit Mirror Image will let your time doubles do some distracting for you, and if you want to shake off the time police Nystul’s Magic Aura will make it easy to fool the Pilties.

LEVEL 17 - WIZARD 5

5th level Wizards can learn third level spells: you can already speed up time with Haste but Slow will let you do the opposite to your foes! But if you want to Phase Dive around the battle field some more at risk of glitching out time Blink is the spell for you! "The timeline was already this broken when I found it. I swear."

LEVEL 18 - WIZARD 6

Isn’t it funny how it took this long to get Parallel Convergence’s stun? Momentary Stasis takes an action to force a large or smaller creature to make a Constitution save or be unable to move. The effect ends if they take damage or at the end of your next turn, but that should be plenty of time to either set up or run. You can do this a number of times equal to your Intelligence modifier and regain all uses at the end of a Long Rest.

Speaking of stuns: Hold Person from second level will let you stun an enemy for quite awhile, and you can still hit them! But if you want to turn back your opponent’s spells? Good ol’ Counterspell.

LEVEL 19 - WIZARD 7

7th level Wizards can learn 4th level spells: to travel far and get out of danger Dimension Door will let you warp out of the way. If you want some protection from time warping around you Intellect Fortress is an Unearthed Arcana spell that gives resistance to psychic damage, as well as advantage on Intelligence, Wisdom, and Charisma saving throws.

LEVEL 20 - WIZARD 8

Our capstone is the 8th level of Wizard for your last Ability Score Improvement: if you want to maximize the effectiveness of your time manipulation increase your Intelligence, but if you want more combat features from Ranger Wisdom will give you more charges for those abilities.

And you can grab your last two free Wizard spells. After this you’ll have to (gasp!) read! For some retributive damage Fire Shield will make you foes think twice about hitting you. But if you want to bring your foes back to the future look no further than Polymorph, to turn people into dinosaurs!

WHAT I DIDN’T USE

Just a quick mention of some of the options I didn’t use for this build, since I think that a lot of questions will be asked about them:

Echo Knight - Sort of the first thing you think of because... you know... Ekko Knight? But truth is that while Ekko gets a time clone for some of his abilities he doesn’t really use the clone to fight? If you want a time fighter that uses clones however I would suggest my Isaac build (Skullgirls)

Divination Wizard - Some people (especially those without Wildemount) might ask why I picked Chronurgy Wizard over Divination. I mean other than the fact that Chronurgy is literally the time Wizard? Well other than that it’s because while you can reverse time you don’t know the outcome of all fights. Adding intelligence to your Initiative also works to simulate Ekko’s speed.

Artificer - Ekko builds his own stuff but put bluntly none of the Artificers really fit his abilities. He doesn’t make potions, doesn’t have a robot dog, definitely doesn’t have a gun, and certainly doesn’t have an Iron Man suit. (That’s on Viktor!)

FINAL BUILD

PROS

This is how we say “hello” in Zaun - You aren’t exactly the most damaging combatant, but you have tons of tricks to up your DPS, all while keeping safe yourself.

Show me something new! - Investing in both mental stats means you’ve got some really good skills. 24 passive perception, anyone?

One more time! - Who would’ve guessed the ability to rewind time would be a lifesaver? Five rerolls per day, three of which you can pick the result from means that you should never be rolling bad. And you aren’t even a Halfling!

CONS

Good a time as any to act reckless - Double the spellcasters means that you can’t get the best of both stats. While it isn’t a big deal since most of your spells are buffs your low Wisdom score means that you won’t be able to use your Ranger features very often.

That worked in another timeline - Wizard levels and a neutral Constitution score means that your health is subpar to say the least. Rewinding won’t save you from Power Word Kill.

I need to rethink a couple things - In order to get Momentary Stasis we had to skip over Spectral Defense from Horizon Walker level 15. Truthfully while Momentary Stasis is nice for a stun you would’ve been far better off further honing your combat skills: the extra Rewinds from Chronurgy 2 was already more than enough of a boost.

But Zaunites know how to work with what they’ve got. Make the best out of a bad situation and use your wit to outsmart any foe! And maybe chat with the Rogues and the Fighters to see if they’d like some time to be Bards? If you move too fast it’ll be like moving in slow-mo.

TITLE: Think Happy Thoughts

PROMPT DAY: Day 2: Potions

MEDIUM (Netflix, Books, Games, Hexer): Netflix

WARNINGS: Recreational drug use, self harm, bad trip as viewed by a sober onlooker

SUMMARY: Geralt takes some White Gull in the woods while Jaskier supervises. His high is ruined before it even really begins.

AUTHOR’S NOTES: researching does tend to be my favorite part of writing so I had a lot of fun with this one :) It can be read pre-relationship geraskier if you so choose.

Geralt was an anxious person, Jaskier had come to find, and as such it did not shock him in the slightest when Geralt expressed his habit of using certain perception-altering substances recreationally.

While they had done a number of said substances together, Jaskier had yet to see Geralt on White Gull. It was intriguing to learn that there were witcher-specific hallucinogens, and Jaskier had jumped at the opportunity to assist Geralt through his high.

He’s had a vague idea of what to expect. Geralt had given a brief overview of the standard effects, namely describing the warm floaty feeling he took the unfinished potion for. He would likely hallucinate, and he would be overly emotional, but he would be calm. The calm seemed to be Geralt’s favorite part, a stilling to the endless buzz in his head. Jaskier could definitely appreciate that, having tried a number of herbs and elixirs to still his own thoughts.

Geralt had taken the potion when they set up camp for the night, just before the sun had started to set. An hour later the effects began to take hold.

It started with a softening in Geralt’s eyes. Jaskier knew he took care to keep his pupils a relatively human size but seeing them expand wider, wider, until only a thin ring of gold surrounded the dewy black was a gorgeous experience. The giggling was the next most apparent. Geralt had a delightful way of wrinkling his nose when he giggled, though he never did it sober, and the sluggish way he paused before Jaskier’s jokes seemed to click made it all the better.

It was around when Geralt began contentedly staring off into space for lengthening periods of time that things started going downhill.

A couple passing through approached them, amicable as any until they saw Geralt. Even with his posture loose, armor shed, and expression soft it was clear who Geralt was. If his inhuman eyes were not enough, then his hair and nearby swords were, especially with how his reputation as the White Wolf had been gaining traction.

“Witcher,” they had hissed, and Geralt’s smile had faltered.

Seeing as he could hardly let passing strangers ruin his friend’s good mood Jaskier stood to intervene.

“How might I help you this evening?” He greeted, shifting their attention from Geralt to himself.

“We don’t need help from anyone who associates with that Butcher,” the husband had replied.

Jaskier would have had half a mind to fight the couple for that, however, he didn’t think Geralt would appreciate the effort even in his heightened state. He tried for diplomacy but the insults continued. Murderer, freak, demon, the words piled until Jaskier could tolerate no more.

“It’s getting rather late, if you don’t need anything I think it might be best for you to move along and find a nice place to camp, yeah?”

The couple seemed to deliberately miss the point, moving closer instead. It was only when Jaskier made casual mention of needing to help Geralt sharpen his swords that the pair took the hint and scurried off into the deepening night.

Jaskier sat back next to Geralt with a huff, some sarcastic comment on his tongue. The witcher tensed. Frowning, Jaskier followed the other’s gaze into the forest and found not so much as a falling leaf. Geralt started to shake and nervousness stirred in Jaskier’s belly. Geralt was supposed to be calm, not look minutes away from bursting into tears. He waved a hand in front of the witcher’s face and called his name in the hopes of inspiring a reaction.

Rather than turning to the bard or swatting at his hand Geralt shrunk in on himself, muttering a sheepish “I’m sorry.” Alarm reared its head in Jaskier’s chest. Geralt looked smaller than the bard had ever seen him as his large, unfocused eyes stared through something in the distance. The way the growing moonlight pooled in his eyes made Geralt look entirely too vulnerable.

Jaskier’s nerves multiplied. He knelt before Geralt and put his hands on the witcher’s knees. Geralt flinched back from the touch, near falling over the log he had been sitting on. Jaskier hesitantly called for him again, only for Geralt to scramble back, more apologies falling from his lips.

“I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to,” he begged. “I tried not to, I tried—”

Geralt cut off suddenly and his head whipped to one side.

“Geralt, you’re scaring me. I need you to talk to me.” Jaskier ignored the shake in his voice as he tried again.

The witcher gave no sign of acknowledgment. His hands dug into the ground, a hurt expression morphing features that had been so relaxed less than an hour ago. Geralt flinched away from nothing. A whimper built in his throat until it became a sob.

When the first tears ran down Geralt’s face Jaskier began panicking in earnest. Geralt reached for his swords with desperate hands and Jaskierer lunged to get to them first. Nothing good could come of Geralt having a weapon at the moment. He ignored Geralt’s sob, threw the swords as far as he could, and rushed into their tent for a blanket. Jaskier wrapped Geralt in the fabric before half dragging him onto a bedroll.

In need of some release for his nervous energy, Jaskier talked. He couldn’t be sure what Geralt was seeing, only that it scared him, made the witcher look young and afraid. His hands ran over Geralt’s back as the man rocked. For every apology from Geralt, there was a reassurance that he had done his best from Jaskier.

Geralt’s crying subsided eventually, replaced by an uneasy silence. Jaskier laid an arm over the man’s shoulders and pulled him close. The witcher shook where he was pressed into Jaskier’s side, and, unsure what else to do, he began humming a lullaby. For a bit, it seemed Geralt might have gotten through the worst of it.

When Jaskier was close to nodding off Geralt suddenly began thrashing. He cried out as if struck, fought to rid himself of the blanket and make it out the tent. The witcher stumbled to find his swords again. The nearest blade happened to be Jaskier’s knife, on the ground near where they had been sitting earlier. Geralt unsheathed the dagger and brought it to his arm. Blood welled over the skin before Jaskier could intervene, and Geralt raised the knife to slash at his arm once more.

At his best, Jaskier may not have stood a chance against the witcher, but Geralt wasn’t at his best. The bard tackled him from behind and Geralt howled. He bucked, an uncoordinated wildness to his actions, but Jaskier held on. He wrestled the knife from Geralt’s white knuckles, threw it away, and managed to pin Geralt’s wrists beneath his knees with the use of his full weight.

The broken cries that fell from Geralt’s mouth made Jaskier’s chest ache but he held steady. He had seen the scars on Geralt’s thighs and knew no monster or person could be responsible for the sheer number except Geralt himself. With his judgment impaired Jaskier couldn’t dare to hope Geralt would hold any care for his own safety. It was only after the witcher fell into another crying spell that Jaskier moved. Slowly, the bard let Geralt go bit by bit. When he was fully disentangled Jaskier stood.

With frantic motions, Jaskier gathered anything his panicked brain recognized as dangerous and threw it into Roach’s saddlebag. He fastened the bag to Roach, forgoing any of her riding gear in favor of getting back to Geralt sooner. He petted her nose in thanks before rushing back to the tent, assured that should Geralt try to hurt himself he would need to hunt Roach down first.

When Jaskier returned to Geralt the witcher was scratching angry red marks into his arms as he hugged himself. A litany of pleads, apologies and disconnected words fell from Geralt’s mouth, a match to the tears falling from his eyes

“Fuck,” Jaskier breathed.

He pulled Geralt’s hands away from the bloody lines and held them to his own chest. Geralt looked at him and Jaskier let himself hope it was with recognition. The witcher’s eyes locked onto Jaskier’s throat.

“I’m sorry, Jask,” he said.

It was in no way the recognition Jaskier had wanted. He tried to assure Geralt he was fine, that he had long forgiven him for his misspoken wish, but Geralt’s eyes were still unfocused and he had no way to be sure his words were coming through.

The rest of the night proceeded in similar bouts of activity and stillness. Jaskier alternated between pinning Geralt’s hands and stroking his back. Geralt fell asleep sometime in the early morning before dawn, clutching Jaskier to his chest. When the sun rose and Geralt opened his tear-puffy eyes again the bard felt the tension of the night finally leave him.

“Back with me Dearheart?” Jaskier asked sleepily.

Geralt nodded, eyes still unguarded but aware.

“I… I’m sorry. It wasn’t supposed to go like that.”

Jaskier hummed and pulled Geralt closer. Of course it wasn’t supposed to go like that, he wanted to say. Instead, he asked, “Are you ok?”

Geralt seemed shocked by Jaskier’s question but nodded hesitantly. Memories of Geralt shouting with terrified eyes, of pulling the witcher’s hands from bloody tears in his skin, plagued Jaskier’s mind despite the exhaustion weighing on his body.

“You don’t have to tell me,” he started. “But it might do some good to talk about what you saw. You were yelling a lot but I couldn’t figure out what at.”

Geralt looked away and a shudder ran through him. He was quiet for a long time, long enough Jaskier thought he might be stubborn and refuse to talk. When Geralt finally spoke his voice was faint and heavy with emotion.

“Just… people. People I let down. You, Vesemir, Visenna, Ren—” he cut himself off and restarted. “People that died because of me and… the Trials. A lot of boys died during the Trials.”

Jaskier was hardly awake enough to process the enormity of Geralt’s near ninety years of cumulative guilt but he knew Geralt needed him, so he gave it his best.

“You haven’t let me down. And I’m not dead. The one time you almost killed me you didn’t, and every other time I’ve nearly died you’ve kept it from happening. I’ve met Vesemir, and I don’t think he would say you’ve let him down either. Also your mother is a thistle worth less than the ground she grows in. Fuck her and her opinions.”

It wasn’t his most eloquent, but it was enough for Geralt to look at him again. Fear seeped from the witcher’s shoulders in little measures until he looked himself again, no longer scared and young, but with hints of vulnerability still clinging.

“Right, let’s get you cleaned up,” Jaskier said after a moment. “You hurt yourself a couple times, got me all in a huff and covered in blood.”

Geralt looked down and made a face as if he were only just realizing how his arms ached. Jaskier gathered a cloth and one of their water skins then wiped away the flaking blood. He could feel Geralt watching him as he worked but paid him no mind. He needed a nap. When the cloth stopped coming away red Jaskier spread salve over the wounds, careful of the uneven redness around Geralt’s biceps where he had scratched himself. The bard pressed a kiss to each cut when he finished.

“matter to me,” Jaskier muttered between kisses, “You’re good and strong and beautiful and so brave. There is no shame in doing your best to help people.”

Geralt stared incredulously until the last of his injuries were cared for.

“Sometimes when I’m with you, you make me feel like a real person,” he said.

Angel’s Rising- Chapter Four

    “It’s the weekend, Aria. Chill out a bit.” Lilith rolls her eyes when she notices me grading a few papers. I give her a smile and pat her head. “Sorry. I promised Aizawa that I would have these done so he can put the grades in.” 

     I’ve worked at UA for a week now. I gotta say, it’s nice. For the most part, the kids are really easy to get along with. They seem to be happy I’m there. Apparently Aizawa seems more relaxed now that he has help with all of his work. 

     “Can Rose and I go hang out with the guys?” “Where are you going?” “The park.” I shrug and give her a smile. “Just check in with me every once in a while, okay? Do you need some money to go eat?” Before she can say no, I pull my wallet out and dig a twenty from it. 

     She doesn’t want to take it, but she eventually gives in to my pouts.Before they leave, I give them both a hug and kiss on their head. Of course, as soon as they walk out the door, mom comes from downstairs. The scowl on her face makes me mad already. 

     “Where the hell are they going?” “To hang out with some friends. Lilith said she’ll check in with me.” She rolls her eyes while going to the fridge. “They should be checking in with me. I’m their mom.” Sure you are, lady. I ignore her presence now, focusing instead on the stack of papers I still have. 

     My phone rings, and I answer it with a smile. “Hey Aizawa.” “Hey. Do you and the girls need anything while I’m out?” I roll my eyes and laugh. “No. The girls just left to hang out with some friends.” He knows who I mean, so he doesn’t question it. “Oh. Do you need anything?” “I’m fine. I promise.” He lets out a short yawn. “You want to grab lunch with me?” “Aizawa, I still have to finish these-” “I can grab it and bring it there, if you want.” 

    My face flushes, and mom notices it. “U-uhh.. I mean, I..” He chuckles a bit at my stuttering. “Are you worried about me coming in your house?” “A-A little bit. It isn’t much.” He sighs, and I can hear his car’s blinker turn on. “I’m picking up sushi. I’ll be there soon, okay? We can finish the grading together.” I sigh in defeat. This man is too kind for his own good. “Fiiine. I’ll see you soon, ‘Zawa.” He scoffs at the nickname and hangs up. 

     “Who was that?” “Oh. It’s the girl’s teacher. He wants to come over and help me grade.” She grabs a bottle of whiskey, which makes my stomach drop. Lovely. He’s going to see that side of her. When I hear a knock at the door, i jump from the couch and go to open it. 

     Aizawa’s gray eyes make me almost forget to breathe. God, he’s one handsome guy. He gives a small smile and puts a bag in my hand. “I promise I got some for me, too. You don’t have to beat me up.” I giggle and smile sweetly at him. “Good because I could toootally beat you up.” He notices my mom staring, so he walks in and places his stuff on a coffee table. “I believe we’ve met before.” 

     She ignores him holding his hand out. “You were the teacher who was blamed for the kids using their quirks at that damn summer camp.” Oh my god. There’s a bit of shock in his eyes. “Umm.. yes. I gave the kids permission to protect themselves.” “Mom, this isn’t-” “Shut up, Aria.” I whimper and back away from the two of them. “You almost got my babies killed, sir.” “Umm.. Rose and Lilith were both unharmed. Trust me, they were protected.” Ignoring the fear in my chest, I step to stand beside Aizawa.

     “He did what he had to at that camp, mom. Trust me, this man cares for his students.” Mom glares at me, but I send it back to her. There’s no way I’ll let Aizawa get blamed for that training camp. He glances down at me, a worried look in his eyes. “Aria, it’s okay.” “No, it isn’t. I know that you did what was best for them. If I had been in your place, I would have done the same thing.” “Yeah,” mom rolls her eyes, “you don’t have a useful quirk when it comes to being a hero. Your quirk doesn’t hurt people. My daughters will be real heroes.” I bite my lip and look at the ground. 

      Aizawa places a hand on my shoulder and pushes me to the couch. “Ignore her, Aria. You have a damn good quirk.” I sit with him and smile softly. “Don’t worry. I’m used to her saying it.” “But you are a hero. You’ve made it. Don’t let her take that from you.” He grabs our lunch and places mine in front of me. He doesn’t have to tell me to eat, his stern look says it for him. Before he grabs his, he takes a second to throw his hair into a low ponytail. It’s nice seeing his face for once, honestly. 

     As we eat, he grabs one of the papers I graded and starts reading it. “Oh, come on, Kaminari. English isn’t that hard.” I shrug and swallow the sushi in my mouth. “I know. Poor thing spelled ‘disturbed’ with a ‘z’.” “I didn’t even catch that one. I just saw how he managed to misspell his first name.” Oh hell, how did I not catch that? Aizawa places the paper down and sighs. “I worry about that kid, but I hope Rose is able to teach him something.” 

     “What do you think about lilith and Tenya?” He shrugs and pretty much swallows a piece of his sushi roll without chewing. “I mean, she’s less prone to calling me homeless since the two of them started talking. Iida calms down around her. They’re good together, but I worry about how hard workers they both are.” “Why does that worry you?” “Well,” he sighs in thought, “it’s good, don’t get me wrong, but if they both become overworked.. they might not know how to tell the other to take a break. You see where I’m getting?” I nod. Lilith and Rose are both that way. I hate to say they act like me, but they really do.

     When I was in high school, you never saw me without a textbook or my notes. I studied constantly. If I wasn’t studying, i was training. Sometimes Midnight would help, and other times I would practice on a dummy. It’s one reason I encourage the girls to go hang out with their friends. I want them to be as stress free as possible while staying on top of their work. 

     I don’t know what makes me speak again, but I do. “Hey, Aizawa.” “Yes?” “I.. really enjoy spending time with you. Outside of the class, I mean.” He looks at me with wide eyes. Is he surprised. “Really?” “Yeah? Is there a problem with that?” He shakes his head, obviously still confused. “Not a problem. I tend to scare people away, though.” I giggle and move our trash to the table. “Go ahead, try scaring me away. I bet you can’t.” He gives me a small smile before shoving me a bit. “I don’t want to scare you away. I enjoy your friendship. Now shut up and help me grade these.” 

     Both of us go quiet once we start grading these papers. Of course, he’s faster at it than I am, so he ends up grading from both of our stacks. I swear, he finishes his stack and a third of mine. Once he reaches over for my last paper, I grab his wrist. 

     “Aizawa, I will draw a penis on your hand.” “What are you, twelve? Let me grade the damn-” When I hold the pen towards his hand, he grabs my wrist and pins it to the couch. “No ma’am.” “Yes sir.” He rolls his eyes, but starts laughing softly. God, his laugh is nice. It’s contagious, too. Once he lets me go, he snatches the paper despite my pouting. “Pouty faces don’t work on me, Aria.” “Shut up. Do you want some juice?” When he nods a bit, I jump up and walk to the kitchen.

     The most embarrassing thing is having to jump to reach the top cabinets. Still, I manage to grab two cups without needing a chair. When i open the fridge, I grab our bottle of grape juice and pour it into both cups. 

     However, I don’t realize that Aizawa is behind me until he reaches to grab one of the cups. My dumb instincts cause me to squeak and.. fling a cup full of grape juice on his shirt. He stands there, dumbfounded.

     “I-I am so so sorry!” “No, it was an accident. I’m sorry for sneaking up like that.” I quickly grab a dishcloth form a drawer and start patting it on his shirt. He seems to blush a bit, but I ignore it. “Seriously, Aria, it’s-” “What size shirt do you wear? I have some men’s clothes you should be able to fit.” He rolls his eyes. “A large.” I nod and place the rag in his hand while I rush to my room. 

     This time, I hear him following me. As I’m searching through a drawer, he sighs. “It really isn’t a big deal, Aria.” “I feel terrible. Just let me wash that for you.” I hold a white shirt out to him, which he takes reluctantly. “Fine. Quit worrying, though.” I reach my hands out and take the bundle of scarves from around his neck. He tenses a bit, but doesn’t stop me. Once I place them on my bed and look back at him, I’m frozen. Holy. Shit. 

     He throws the sweatshirt he had on to the ground without looking at me. I know staring is rude, but I can’t help it. In his hero costume, he really looks like a twig, but damn he’s a muscled twig. He finally notices my stares and lets out a sigh. “You looking at the scars?” Oh. There are scars aren’t there? Still, I nod absent mindedly, not wanting to admit that I was just staring at how hot he is. That would be awkward at work, wouldn’t it? 

     “You know,” He stops putting the other shirt on and looks in my eyes, “you can just tell me the truth.” My face heats up and I finally turn away from him. “S-Shut up and get dressed!” He chuckles softly. Asshole. 

     “I’m clothed. You can look now.” I turn and roll my eyes at his smirk. “You’re awfully playful today, Aizawa.” When I pick up his sweatshirt, he chuckles. “I’m having a good day. I enjoy your company.” I was going to open my door, but something makes me get a bit brave. I shut it again and glance over my shoulder at him. He tilts his head. “Well,” I bite my lip slightly, “you could always.. enjoy it more often..” His eyes widen, but I see a smirk on his face. 

     “Interesting. That’s something I should consider.” When he winks at me, I lose my brave side. Damn, he’s too good. I go to open the door again, but he stops it with one hand. “Hold on now. You can’t tease me like that and suddenly get flustered.” “I-I teased you?” He chuckles lightly and turns me so my back is against the door. “Umm, yeah, you did.” He places one of his arms over my head so he can lean his forehead against it. His smile is soft, and it makes my stomach erupt in butterflies. 

     “Hey,” his voice is soft, “you’re.. you’re really cute. I just.. want you to know that.” His other hand comes up and rests on my cheek. Is this real? Am I dreaming about this? I really hope not.  His calloused thumb runs gently over my cheekbone, and I lean into his touch. 

     I never heard the front door open. “Sis? Are you home?” Aizawa chuckles lightly and backs away from me. “Come on. Lets convince them we weren’t banging in here or something.” Right. Because I totally can speak right now. I nod and walk out of my room with his sweatshirt in my hand. 

     Rose smiles brightly at me, but it fades when she sees Aizawa behind me. “M-Mr. Aizawa? Why are you here?” Lilith pops from around the corner and looks at me confused. He holds his hands up and chuckles. “Chill. I came to help grade and bring her lunch.” Lilith points to the shirt he’s wearing. “Isn’t that yours, Aria?” Busted. “I spilled grape juice on him, so I need to wash his shirt.” “I can just take it home, Aria.” 

     “She won’t let you, sir. I would let her take care of it.” Lilith and Rose both laugh. Aizawa sighs before smiling at me. “Fine, but just bring it to school tomorrow.” I nod and suddenly remember his scarves on my bed. I turn to quickly grab them. “Here.. you shouldn’t forget these.” He smiles and places them back around his neck. 

     “I should probably head out. I’ll take the papers so I can put them in the computer.” I nod and grab the stack for him. “Hey, Mr. Aizawa.” He tilts his head and glances at Lilith. She smiles a bit and lets out a chuckle. “You should totally come over more often.” “Yeah,” Rose nods, “it’s nice seeing Aria hang out with someone other than us.” 

     He’s genuinely shocked from what they said. I am too, but it isn’t a lie that the girls are my only real friends. I look down and try my best to ignore the rising heat in my cheeks. It isn’t easy though when I can feel his eyes staring into my soul. 

     “I.. I would love to, girls. Now, I really have to go. I’ll be here to pick you three up tomorrow. Behave for your sister.” The twins roll their eyes, but each wave goodbye to Aizawa. When I look up, he’s still staring at me. His smile is soft. “I’ll see you at work, Aria.” I open my mouth to say something, but Lilith interrupts me. “Oh come on, just hug at least. Lame asses.” 

     “L-Lilith! I swear-” I cut my sentence off when Aizawa chuckles. What’s so funny? When I look at him, his cheeks are dusted a faint pink. Was he.. wanting to give me a hug? 

     “Aizawa?” “Come here, goofball.” I smile and walk into his strong embrace. He smells strongly of coffee and laundry detergent. That sounds odd, but it’s comforting. I feel.. at home like this. I know that I’m technically at my house, but.. something about being around him makes sense. It just does. 

     “Hey, Aria.” “Y-yeah?” “The twins smiles at each other and walked away.” Of course they did. I immediately hop away from him, my face pretty much on fire. “I-ignore them. They like to mess with m-me.” He chuckles and gives a small shrug. 

     “I don’t have siblings, so I wouldn’t know. However, it is pretty funny to get you all flustered.” I slap him on his chest, which only causes him to grin. “I will wipe that smirk off your face, Aizawa.” “Do it, kid.” I huff, which makes him snort and turn away from me. 

     I follow him outside where his car is parked. “I’m not that much younger than you, Aizawa.” “Eight years is a bit of a gap, kid.” “Quit calling-” “Nope.” God, is he usually childish? Don’t get me wrong, I like this side of him. It’s just weird having him so playful. 

     “Hey, I really do need to go.” “Got a girl to see?” He smiles softly and rolls his eyes. “I already saw you today, Aria. You’re the only person I bother seeing.” Okay, that makes me blush. I didn’t expect that kind of answer. When he takes his hair from the ponytail, he seems to notice my frown. 

     “What’s wrong?” “Oh,” I chuckle, “I just enjoy seeing your face.” “Gross.” “No, really. You’re.. you’re a good looking guy.” He chuckles and pulls me into another hug. “Aww. You’re too kind. I’ll see you in the morning.” 

     I’m not prepared for him to lean down to place a kiss on my cheek. He doesn’t look at my face after. He just rushes to get in his car. 

     I watch him drive away, my heart pounding loudly. It takes a bunch of effort to turn and walk inside. Of course, Lilith and Rose are waiting for me. 

     “Sis,” Lilith chuckles, “I think you have a crush.” “On our teacher, nonetheless. Good. Maybe we can get out of detentions if they bang.” I ignore Rose’s comment, still fuzzy from the kiss. I touch my cheek and smile to myself. Lilith snaps in my face to get my attention. “Do you?” 

     When I giggle, she lets out a sigh. “A thirty year old grouchy teacher? Wow, you need taste.” I shrug and pick his sweatshirt up from the couch. It smells mostly like grape juice now, but there’s still him on it. “You two..” The twins look at me with worried looks. 

     “How.. how do you two feel around Denki and Tenya? What.. how do you know?” Rose is the first to answer. “He.. he’s more than a best friend. He understands that, well, I don’t come from the best place.” Lilith nods and chimes in. “He makes time, despite the hero course being so hard.” I look at their faces, and both of them are smiling like idiots. 

     “Do they.. feel like home?” “No. They are home.” I smile at their answer and squeeze the sweatshirt tighter to my chest. Yeah, he is my home. I don’t know why, or how, but that man is my home.

Fluffy Alphabet: Ethan x MC

Hi! When I read @isabella-choices ‘s take on this (read it here!), I knew I had to write it for Ethan and my MC Tilly. I’m also thinking of doing one for Liam x MC, Beckett x MC, Mr. Sinclaire x MC, Cal x MC, and/or Adrian x MC. Let me know which you’d prefer!

A = Attractive. What do they find attractive about each other?

Ethan is attracted to Tilly’s mind. There are times when he’s brought to his knees just by listening to her explain a rare blood disease. Superficially, Ethan is in love her tight brown curls. He loves to run his fingers through it. Tilly says it bothers her because he tangles it, but, truthfully, she loves it.

Tilly is also attracted Ethan’s mind, but, more than that, she’s attracted to how much he cares. Ethan puts his heart and soul into his work because he cares deeply about all of his patients even the ones who prove to be more than a little difficult. She loves him for that. His appearance is just an added benefit. Tilly’s often mesmerized by his light blue eyes, so much so that she occasionally forgets her train of thought while staring into them.

B = Baby. Do they want a family? Why/Why not?

Ethan never thought he’d have children. It wasn’t that he didn’t want them, but that he couldn’t imagine forsaking his job long enough to find someone to settle down with.

Tilly, however, has always wanted children. She used to want four, but, after doing a round in the pediatric ward for a week, she lowered it to one or two.

C = Cuddle. How do they cuddle?

Ethan claims he doesn’t like to cuddle. He puts up a fit whenever Tilly wraps her arms around his waist while he’s cooking or snuggles close to him in bed. Tilly can tell by his small smile that he secretly loves it. She can also tell because, every night, Ethan inches closer to her in the bed, making it easier for her to wrap her arms around his torso.

D = Dates. What are dates with them like?

Working in a hospital is exciting. It’s fast-paced. It’s an adrenaline rush. Going out to dinner and a movie just feels boring to Ethan and Tilly, so they don’t. Instead, every date they go on they do something different. It can be as simple as trying a new restaurant or riding in a hot air balloon. Ethan’s content with just going to a new restaurant, but Tilly likes to keep him on his toes.

E = Everything. You are my ____ (e.g. my life, my world…)

For Ethan, Tilly is his heart. She’s at the center of it and always will be.

For Tilly, Ethan is her giraffe. She insists it has nothing to do with his long neck, but they both know that’s a lie.

F = Feelings. When did they know they were falling in love?

They both knew for sure in Miami.

G = Gentle. Are they gentle? How so?

Neither Ethan nor Tilly are gentle with each other, particularly in the bedroom. They both love to push each other to their limits. When Ethan started to coddle Tilly when she got pregnant with their son, she all but screamed at him.

H = Holding Hands. How do they like to hold hands?

They don’t hold hands. Instead, Tilly always loops her arm through Ethan’s.

I = Impression. First impression/s?

The first impression Ethan had of Tilly was on paper. He knew she was an intelligent, ambitious doctor who an immense amount of potential.

Tilly’s first impression of Ethan was also on paper. She read an article of his on JSTOR. She googled his name, expecting him to be a stuffy, old man, but she instead got a stuffy, young man.

J = Joker. Are they into pulling pranks?

Ethan hates pranks. He tries to take off of work every April Fool’s Day, so he won’t fall victim to his coworkers and patients’ jokes.

Tilly, on the other hand, loves pranks. The best part about pranking Ethan is his reaction. He lets out an exasperated sigh and an aggravated, “Matilda Louise Ramsey!”

K = Kiss. How do they kiss?

They kiss passionately, holding nothing back.

L = Love. Who says ‘I love you’ first?

Ethan does.

M = Memory. What’s their favorite memory together?

For Ethan, it’s when Tilly says yes to his proposal. Read it here.

For Tilly, it’s when she sees Ethan meet his son for the first time.

N = Nickel. Do they spoil each other?

Neither Ethan nor Tilly are materialistic people. They value experiences more than they do things. So, Ethan will gladly spend a thousand dollars on a bottle of wine just for the few seconds of pleasure, and Tilly will just as eagerly splurge on a vacation to Santorini.

O = Orange. What colour reminds them of their other half?

Blue reminds Ethan of Tilly. When he first met her, she was in blue scrubs, and, from that day on, he’s associated her with that color.

Blue also reminds Tilly of Ethan. It isn’t just because of his eyes, but it’s also because of how calm the color blue makes her feel. When Ethan wants to be, he can be a very calming person. When he puts both of his hands on her shoulders and tells her to breathe, she swears she’s on a white sand beach.

P = Pet names. What pet names do they use?

Ethan doesn’t use pet names besides the occasional “love” or “sweetheart”. He doesn’t consider “rookie” to be a pet name. To him, that’s just another way to pronounce Tilly.

Tilly is the complete opposite. She loves the pink tint that appears on Ethan’s ears and cheeks when she calls him “snuggluffagus” when they’re cuddling or “Ethan the Grouch” whenever Ethan is pissy they ran out of coffee.

Q = Questions. Are there questions they’re always asking?

Ethan is always asking Tilly, “Are we out of coffee already?” Tilly doesn’t drink coffee, so she’s always amused when he gets grumpy about it. He also often asks her, “What did you do?”

Tilly is always asking Ethan, “Have you seen this?” She asks the question then shoves her phone in his face, showing him a meme (or me-me as Ethan pronouns it) or cat video.

R = Rainy Day. What do they like to do on a rainy day?

Ethan loves to sit at the kitchen table and do paperwork as the rain falls. When it’s not raining and he has work to do, he turns on an app that has white noises on it. Rain helps him focus.

Tilly also loves the rain. Whenever it rains, her inner child comes out. She’ll take Ethan’s hand, put Jenner on his leash, and drag them outside. She’ll play fetch with Jenner or watch as Ethan grumbles about his wet sweater vest. Tilly loves bursting into songs from Singin’ in the Rain. Sometimes, Ethan will join her… as long as no one’s there and he’s had his coffee. The day Sienna visited and found Dr. Ethan Ramsey singing “Good Morning” in the rain with Tilly is one she’ll never forget.

S = Sad. How do they cheer each other up?

Whenever Tilly’s sad, Ethan will turn on her guilty pleasure: Scrubs. If they’re somewhere a TV is not, Ethan will hug her close to him and gently whisper in her ear the vows he said on their wedding day, promising again and again to never leave her.

Whenever Ethan’s sad, Tilly asks for his help with a patient she has. Tilly’s found that the best way to cheer him up is to distract him, to bring his mind elsewhere. Whenever that doesn’t work, she walks over to their children, leans down in front of them, and whispers, “I think Daddy needs a hug.”

T = Talking. What do they like to talk about?

Ethan and Tilly, of course, talk about medicine. More than that, they talk about the one TV show they both like: Game of Thrones. They also talk about the latest hospital gossip. Ethan tries to act uninterested whenever Tilly starts a sentence with, “Did you hear what happened?”, but she always notices how his ears perk up.

U = Unencumbered. What helps them relax?

In addition to rain, Ethan’s also relaxed by nature shows. He’s relaxed by the narrator’s often British accent and watching ocelots play with each other in the wilderness. Around the holidays, Ethan likes to sew, but that’s his and Tilly’s secret.

Tilly’s relaxed by baking. She isn’t much of a cook (or baker for that matter), but she likes baking cookies and cupcakes. Ethan always tries her sweets even when he thinks he’s about to eat a piece of coal only to find out it’s a sugar cookie.

V = Vaunt. What do they like to show off? What are they proud of?

Both Ethan and Tilly are proud of their intelligence and their ambition. However, that’s little in comparison to how proud they are of their children. Every piece of artwork of Parker and Eli’s goes on the fridge. There’s also a trophy case dedicated to all of the awards they’ve won from Parker’s soccer participation trophy to Eli’s national spelling bee trophy.

W = Wedding. When, how, where do they propose?

Their first dance was to “At Last” by Etta James.

According to Ethan, Tilly is the angioplasty to his coronary artery. Ethan isn’t exactly known for his romantic abilities.

According to Tilly, Ethan is the Kanye to her Kanye. Ethan has no idea what on God’s green earth that means, but he uses context clues to determine Kanye is someone who likes himself an awful lot.

Z = Zebra. If they wanted a pet, what would they get?

Ethan and Tilly have two pets: Jenner and a cat named Cat.

NSFW Alphabet-Peter Pettigrew (Marauder Era)

Okay, but like, late Marauder Era. Just before leaving Hogwarts Marauder Era, so that’s like only just 18. Also, I’ve never really thought about any Maruader era fancast things before, but I think Alex Lawther does fit how I imagine him pretty well. Not perfect, but close.

A = Aftercare (What they’re like after sex)

He’s very affectionate at the best of times, but after sex it comes out in droves. He’ll nuzzle against your neck and kiss you so much that it tickles, until you push him away and then he’ll make sure that you’re okay and that you enjoyed it.

B = Body part (Their favourite body part of theirs and also their partner’s)

Peter loves your face. It sounds quite shallow, but he did first fall for how beautiful you are and each day he spends around you just adds to his adoration of you.

He doesn’t see that there is much he can like about himself. He doesn’t see himself at the level of attractiveness of the other boys and he knows he wouldn’t stand out in a crowd at all. However, with your attentions lavished on him, he’d start to warm to his pudgy cheeks

His nerves do make him quite goofy, apologising over silly little things with a smile and blushing at every opportunity. It’s quite cute really.

H = Hair (How well-groomed are they, does the carpet match the drapes, etc.)

He doesn’t care how groomed he is down there, as long as he’s clean that’s enough for him. Unless it would bother you, he doesn’t seem to be changing that

I = Intimacy (How are they during the moment, romantic aspect…) 

With how much effort Peter puts into every aspect of your relationship, as though making up for the fact that he isn’t as ‘good’ as the other marauders, it has led to quite a few intimate moments. They are, however, limited due to the settings available.

With help from his friends, he has more than once broken so many rules to have some privacy with you after curfew in areas no-one would find you, usually not even intending to have sex

Please. He’s a young man, in his first sexual relationship with someone he is sure is out of his league. Any moment he has alone, or at least when everyone else is asleep, he is touching himself.

He hasn’t had much chance to explore, but he seems to have a slight exhibitionism and submission kink

Exhibitionism: It probably comes from the fact that there are very few places for you to be alone in Hogwarts and that is where you spend a majority of your time. CHARACTER BACKGROUND:

PERSONALITY:

There’s something interesting about being caught in the middle. It forces a person to think, rather than to just pass by.

That’s where the Edgecombe family had always been. Not quite so lofty as to be a part of the Sacred 28, but still, a perfectly respectable pureblooded family. They never really stood out. That was, until Alice.

         Unlike her older brother Frederick (or Freddie to his friends), Alice was always quick to question something. Why was the sky blue? Why was her name Alice? Why could they perform such amazing acts of magic, while muggles lived their whole lives without it? She could always be found digging through her father’s study for the answers or climbing to the tallest tree or digging up the garden to see if she could figure out some of the answers for herself.  

         In school, she had a bit of a reputation as a know-it-all. But not your typical know-it-all. She never insisted on interjecting into every class, every conversation; No, no Alice wasn’t at all like that. It wasn’t that she talked very much. Alice would only speak when she had something to say. She was very quick to correct you if she thought you were wrong and could verbally cite all the reasons why. Needless to say, this didn’t help her make any friends. If someone asked her a question, she almost always had the answer and then some. If she didn’t have the answer for you, you could rest assured that after an evening in the library, she’d basically be an expert on it and could tell you just about anything you’d want to know. The thirst for knowledge was relentless. She wanted so desperately to understand everything, and whatever Alice wanted, Alice would get.

Alice is a perfect balance of soft and tough. She’s like the soft beauty of fresh snowfall mixed with the sharp bite that whips in the winter wind. Being raised as the proper daughter of a pureblood family, she could play the part of the polite, soft spoken, and quite witch. However, she never bothered to hide the wit and charm that crackled in everything she did and said. She’s poised, and at times quite cunning, but never, never cruel or harsh. She’s quite captivating, though she never wants to be the center of attention. At her core, she’s kind, and she’s sturdy. She’s also stubborn as anything. As such, it’s very difficult getting through to her when she believes something.

Her world view is one of black and white. There aren’t any shades of grey. There is only right and wrong. In Alice’s mind, the laws are there to protect everyone- to keep everything and everyone in the right. By breaking the laws- even bending it, could spell out something disastrous. Her world view is why becoming an auror seemed like such a natural fit for her. She could make things right, and she could solve problems. She could see something wrong, look for the pieces of the puzzle and reassemble them to find the answer.

Alice is kind of like a pointillism picture. From up close, there’s nothing that seems to stand out. Just another dot on a canvas- one in a million. But upon further inspection, and a different perspective, she’s remarkable. She could be the center of attention, if she didn’t prefer to hide in plain sight. She liked being considered average. It drew less attention to her, and it made it even more satisfying to surprise people when their assumptions proved to be wrong.

But pictures aren’t always pretty.

The clever, calculated nature of the way her mind works means that some people tend to consider her cold, or unfeeling. The know-it-all wound up separating herself from pleasantries and conversation, as people never seemed to like to talk with her. Alice is incredibly blunt and doesn’t sugar coat things. Facts are facts, and there’s no point in making things seem like they aren’t all that bad when they are exactly as bad as they look. In this way, Alice is her own worst enemy. No matter how hard she tries to make friends, to get people close enough to her so that they might begin to understand her, she says something harsh, or doesn’t let emotions influence her response. Then it’s just one more person who finds her completely intolerable.

There’s also the fact that she was in Slytherin. While being in Slytherin doesn’t automatically stain you with certain irredeemable qualities and brand you forever as a dark wizard, it does sometimes create situations where you’re surrounded by people who tend to agree with the sentiments of dark wizards. Being surrounded by these ideas for seven years of her life, hearing the whispers in the halls and the common room conversations, she learned to think like them. Part of these experiences are what helped her to the top of her field. The other part allowed her to work as they do- to be manipulative, to toy with people. These are aspects of herself that Alice hates the most and would love to see disappear. However, they are a part of who she is, and she will still slip into old habits from time to time when these undesirable qualities are called for in whatever task is at hand. And sometimes, even when they aren’t called for. Sometimes it’s just a subtle comment on something, but this controlling aspect of her will rear its ugly head from time to time.  

Alice is a force to be reckoned with. She knows what it is she wants, and she will get it. She knew she wanted to make her family proud. So, she did as she was told, sat straight, acted the proper lady. She still bites her tongue around them rather than tell them how she really feels. Once she knew she wanted to become an auror, to protect those who couldn’t protect themselves, she worked hard and got it. She wanted Frank, and she got him too… But now she’s not so sure he wants her too. He’s grown so distant.

BRIEF OVERVIEW OF FAMILY: 

Alice’s family isn’t exactly easy. Her mother, Cordelia, is the definition of a mother hen. Constantly fluffing and preening and just ever-so-slightly overbearing. It took years, and a muggle book from a Hogwarts friend, to realize that her mother is Mrs. Bennet from Pride and Prejudice- to a T. While she would probably never utter it allowed, Alice’s mother wanted desperately for her daughter to marry up in pureblood society. She was positively thrilled when Alice brought Frank home for dinner. But that’s not to say the woman doesn’t care about Alice. She’s incredibly proud of her daughter and her accomplishments. In polite society, she gushes endlessly about her Alice, the auror, who managed to snag THE Frank Longbottom.

         Alice is more like her father, Atticus, than anything. The man is quiet. While he doesn’t say much, his mind is always working, always playing some elaborate game of chess with the world, a game that he will inevitably win. He taught Alice to think before she speaks. To always have a plan, all the way from A to Z- just in case something was to go wrong. Alice was always much closer to him than to her father. He just seemed to understand her better than her mother. The clucking and fussing and frills were nice, but Alice needed time away from all that noise to function. She’d much rather be hiding in her father’s study, in silence but never alone. That’s not to say it was always quiet. The battles of wits between these two were legendary- it’s better to never bring up politics around them unless you’re willing to listen to a very well mannered, but absolutely scathing debate.

         Freddie had been her best friend and confidant growing up. She’d constantly pester her big brother for the answers to her innumerable questions that swirled around her head. He was always more of a “mama’s boy” though. Always looking to stay in the woman’s good graces and do as he was told.

         Now, it’s quite difficult. Cordelia and Atticus are both inclined to stay in the graces of pureblood society. Instead of speaking up, they bow their heads, turn a blind eye. To agree that perhaps Lord Voldemort isn’t all that bad and that everyone’s just blowing it out of proportion. Freddie, never one to question his parents, is following blindly along with them.  Alice is forced to watch silently as her family slowly aligns with something she views as truly, and irredeemably wrong.

OCCUPATION 

Alice is an auror. Alice is bright. She knows the spells to use, she knows the laws, the protocols to follow. But it’s not just that that makes her such an excellent fit for the job. The ability to think quickly, to solve the problem in front of her efficiently and effectively, was the key to her success. She had a clear mind in the face of danger, which helped to make her one of the best duelists in the business. She and Frank had been nearly unbeatable. But something is off with them, and it’s throwing off their dueling, and it’s throwing Alice off her whole work game.

ROLE WITHIN THE ORDER/THOUGHTS ABOUT THE ORDER:

         Alice is in the inner-circle of the Order. She was there to provide a level head and a ministry insight into what was going on politically. She’s there to try to keep everyone safe and protected. At first, the work she was doing with the Order was right. They were protecting the innocent and defenseless. But when things began to fall more and more into a legally grey area, Alice wasn’t so certain anymore.

She’s known who she is and what she stood for her whole life. To be questioning something now is ground shaking. Watching as the younger Order members are more inclined to cause chaos that increases the panic within the community rather than focus on quickly, quietly, and legally helping the others and slowly dismantling the forces that He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named is assembling is painful for her. She’s trying so desperately to show them that there’s a better way of doing things. A safer way, for everyone involved. But they don’t seem to want to listen.

Watching as Frank takes on more dangerous and legally questionable jobs from the Order has been causing a pit to form in her stomach. Not just because she adores him and would be inconsolable if anything were to ever happen to him, but also because the one thing she cares about most above all is beginning to exist on the fringe of the black area in her mind. In her world without a grey area, she’s not sure what she can do. She knows she won’t turn on him or expose him, but then, what is she supposed to do here?

SURVIVAL:

         The British “Stiff Upper Lip” defines how Alice gets by. Living in the Longbottom family house is a step up from the tiny Edgecombe household, and a very welcome change to the tiny London flat she’d holed up in after Hogwarts as she was getting her start at the Ministry. Having copious amounts of floo-powder in the house always makes the commute to work a breeze.

More eyes are on her now than when she was younger. Marrying up meant that people paid marginally more attention to her, even more so as a respected auror. She’s forced herself to be very careful. She never talks of the Order in public. At work, if the group is mentioned, she’s always the first to volunteer to investigate them. Better her than any of the other aurors. If it were anyone else, it was likely all their faces would be on the front page of the Daily Prophet, holding numbers across their chests and looking incredibly grim. Worse the end of her career, if she was discovered to be associated with the Order, it would almost definitely be certain death, now that so many of Lord Voldemort’s followers are also working in the Ministry. She can never be too careful with who she trusts.

RELATIONSHIPS:

         While it may not seem like it from the surface, Alice is holding on for dear life with Frank. They’d always been a team in her mind. The two of them against the world. But now he won’t talk to her. He’s been distant, and she barely recognizes him some days. The man she’d married isn’t who’s sleeping beside her anymore, and she isn’t sure where he went, or what she must do in order to bring him back. It’s not as though she can talk to her family or work friends about the problem without exposing the Longbottom’s dirty little (illegal) secret to the entire wizarding world. She can’t talk to anyone about it. She can’t talk to Frank about it. Her parents cannot know that she’s part of the Order, or else they could be in serious trouble. Not that she’d even like to imagine it, but she knows there’s a chance that they could turn on her and turn her in or inform someone in Voldemort’s ranks of just what the Longbottom’s are up to. She can’t talk about it at work or risk exposing herself as a member of the Order. Alice is a cauldron of stress that is at risk of bubbling over. She needs a shoulder to cry on, or at least someone to vent to. Otherwise, Alice is going to explode.

         Caradoc Dearborn is clever. He’s got a good head on his shoulders. He knows how to think, and not just blindly stumble into things firing spells left and right. He’s one of the reasons that she still has faith in the Order and what it’s doing, and why she hasn’t withdrawn. She hopes he can help direct to Order into doing what’s best for the entire wizarding community, without making a muck of every law and statute the wizarding world lives by. She can’t imagine what it’s like to lose a parent, and she’s sort of taken him under her wing as a younger sibling of sorts.

         Mary MacDonald stresses Alice out more than anything. The girl’s completely all over the map. She flickers back and forth between what’s right and what’s wrong in Alice’s view like a light bulb on the fritz. It doesn’t make sense to her that one person can change her opinion on something a million times in a minute. In Alice’s mind, maybe the girl changes her mind so much because she isn’t sure what she believes. Or worse yet, she knows what she believes, and she’s trying to take the whole Order down from the inside and take everyone along with it. She doesn’t trust her as far as she can throw her.

OOC EXPLORATION:

SHIPS/ANTI-SHIPS: Alice x Frank, Alice x Chemistry

WHAT PRIVILEGES AND BIASES DOES YOUR CHARACTER HAVE? 

         Alice is very privileged. A pureblood witch who married into another pureblood family? A respectable Ministry job? That’s as good as it gets, as far as some in their community are concerned. But she’s never been one to judge. In school, she enjoyed seeing the other half of the world. She’d trade books and music with muggle-born students, read as much as she could about everything- vampires, werewolves, shape shifters- everything. The unquenchable thirst to know all that there was out there provided her with the facts. But the facts, she’s beginning to find, are often different than the reality.

The underlying prejudice with her still exists, as much as she tries to fight it. She listens to her family and questions whether they always thought that way. Whether or not she used to agree with them. She can’t recall, and she hopes it wasn’t so. But sometimes, watching as these youths who think they’re changing the world by tearing it apart… She wonders just where they learned to think this way. Are they muggle ideas? I want her to try and better understand the struggles that others who aren’t nearly as privileged as her face daily. To try and understand why some are, in her mind, so intent on blowing things up and starting again. To understand their struggle, so that maybe Alice can learn to think beyond what’s black and white in the eyes of the law, and instead see what’s morally and ethically the right thing to do. Perhaps this ability to better understand may help her to realize where her loyalties should truly lie in this war.

WHAT ARE YOU MOST LOOKING FORWARD TO?

Literally, everything. Alice Longbottom has always been my favorite of the Marauders era characters, as I feel like she can be interpreted a plethora of different ways, and I think that this interpretation of her may just be my favorite yet.

PLOT DROP IDEAS: Maybe an inspection of ministry workers, or something that could poke at whether they’re involved in anything suspicious? Or a raid on Diagon Alley.

Hiya! I hope this isn't an obvious question or that I've overlooked this question already answered. How do you find the proper kanji to use for the Japanese names on these templates? I know there's the English version but if love to use the kanji. I'm just kind of clueless here.

No problem at all, I love this question! The answer is honestly unique to everyone, it depends on what your character’s name actually is!

I’m going to separate my answer into three sections since I don’t know what kind of name you’re going for. I’m also including non-Japanese names for those who might be interested in a few tips and tricks.

Using Non-Japanese Names in the Templates

If you have a fully non-Japanese name, your template can do something creative with the name section. For example, you could separate the first and last names like in this example (submitted by anon):

You can of course separate it differently in this example too (like, “Fenton” in grey rather than “Danny”). Or you can put a title or something instead of a name, or an organization/group/school name or something. I made an example using the villain generator (and I used a KH character because they were the first thing I thought of that had titles):

Non-Japanese Names Written with Japanese Characters

If you still want to use Japanese characters (kana) for English names, there are ways to sound it out in Japanese, so to speak. When you want to spell a name in Japanese, do it phonetically and not by how it’s literally spelled, and you should write it in katakana because it’s a foreign name (katakana is generally used for foreign words and names!). In the example below (submitted by @major-dongliz), “Oskar” (or Oscar for this matter) is spelled “オスカー” which is romanized as “Osukaa”.

If you don’t know how Japanese syllables work, it’s basically like English consonant sounds are kinda smushed together with another vowel sound that drops off (it’s mostly a “silent u” kinda thing, but sometimes they use the other vowels too depending on where it is in the word), and longer sounds are extended vowels (commonly, “er” sounds become “aa” sounds in Japanese, and in katakana “aa” is written with a dash like “aー”… which isn’t how it works in hiragana, but hey I don’t make the rules), and there are some other linguistic tricks too (the “th” sound becomes “s” or “z” in Japanese, and “wi/wu/we” typically becomes “ui/u/ue”, “vi” typically becomes “bi”, and a few others I can’t think of off the top of my head).

For another example (seen above), the kana name for “Haera Song” (submitted by @fullmemetalalchemist​) is written as “ソン・ヘラ”, which is romanized as “Son Hera”. You can see that not only was the name format changed from western (First Name, Last Name) to eastern/native/Japanese format (Last Name, First Name), but the spelling isn’t literal either (which would have made it “ソング・ハエラ” or something, which isn’t how the name is pronounced at all). Changing the name format is optional however (Japanese people do respect the way Americans/others say their names, so a non-Japanese name like “Haera Song” in kana should still be “Haera Song” when referenced by other Japanese people–but, again, it’s optional and preference for your personal UA templates).

Japanese Names Written with Japanese Characters

For real-people surnames, normally they’ll mean something like “base of the mountain” (Yamamoto/山本, which is a common Japanese surname) because way back in ancient times they decided surnames were based on where people were from/born/raised or something. For first/given names, typically the names will be meaningful somehow because normally that’s how people choose names for their kids. Asian families tend to name their kids something like “beautiful child” (Kimiko/貴美子) or “great wisdom” (Daichi/大智) because they hope their kid will end up wealthy/famous/healthy/smart/etc. (You can look up some common Japanese names and their kanji spellings on “behindthename” or google it!)

Some given names might not even have kanji in them and simply use hiragana or katakana, or a mix of kanji and hiragana (very rarely though), but it really depends on preference; and when paired with a surname, the surname is always in kanji. For example, the name “Riku” can be spelled with the “陸” kanji or the hiragana “りく” or katakana “リク” (it depends on preference–the creators of Kingdom hearts use the katakana for Riku, most likely because KH characters are meant to look/be “foreign” compared to native Japanese people).

But since there are SO many ways to read kanji and so many kanji that can be read in similar ways, you can get two or more kanji spellings for the same name which will give it different meaning (see: Kimiko/君子 meaning “noble child” and Daichi/大地 meaning “great land/earth”). You can also get one Kanji spelling for multiple names (for example, “陸” can be “Riku”, “Takashi”, “Atsushi” or “Noboru”; “明光” can be “Akari”, “Akemi”, or “Meikou”; and “春” can be “Haru”, “Azuma”, “Kazu”, “Toki”, or “Hajime”).

That said, the different kanji readings also gives way for some REALLY GREAT puns, which is what some of the character names in MHA pretty much DEPENDS on. This kind of thing doesn’t really happen in real life, but we’ve got a Theme Naming trope going on in MHA which lends really well to explaining just who the characters are and what they can do, and just having super fun punny names in general. The very best example of this is Tetsutestu Testutestu, whose name is spelled “鉄哲徹鐵” (literally in order, these kanji mean “iron wisdom, strike iron”–yes, his name is basically Moon Moon for “iron”).

You asked how to find “proper” kanji for names, but there isn’t really a way to decide other than what you want the name to mean or where it comes from. If you don’t have a name for your character, you can totally have fun looking up kanji and trying to make a cool/fun name from the meaning you want. (I’ll actually make a second post for that later since this one is getting long, but it’ll be in the queue so I’ll link back later when I do make it. EDIT: Here it is!!)

If you already have a name for your character that you like though, there are a few ways to look up kanji to fit it. The easiest might be to go on jisho.org (not linked because tumblr is bad at this, but you can google or type in that url there and check it out) and type your character’s name in the search bar followed by the “#names” filter (see green box below). This will give you a dictionary of all the different kanji spellings for that name (if it exists and isn’t one of those nonsense-y mishmash of cool sounds, anyway), and from there you can copy the kanji (see red boxes below) back into the search bar and figure out which name variant has the kanjis with the meanings you want them to have (see pink box way below).

You don’t have to make it super punny like Testutestu’s name, of course. Some of the names depends on a different kind of pun than just simply a kanji/spelling pun–for example, “Ashido” means “reed door” but it was chosen because it sounds like the English word “Acid”, which is what Mina Ashido’s quirk is. So don’t be afraid to just pick a name that looks nice if you already got one chosen but just don’t know how to “spell” it.

[A-Z Q’s Meme]I am extremely sorry about taking such a ridiculously long time to answer. Truth be told, this question was so good & relevant to Alus’ storyline that I wanted to write a short story as an answer, but I hit a hard writer’s block in the middle of writing it in the elegant way I wanted to. I may post the full short story at a later date, for now here is a more sloppy answer. Thank you so much for sending in an ask and being so patient. I am so sorry.

In the shortest of words; He did, but does not any more.

It seems that Alus’ life has been a constant struggle and repetition of finding hope and shortly thereafter loosing it, though his strength in heroism is near-unwavering and incredible in ultimate. Each time the blow of reality comes a bit harder than before, but the first blow still may had been the hardest - enough so that Arc’s hope had died long ago.

[WARNING: MAJOR BACKSTORY SPOILERS] I don’t mind if you read it, just maybe avoid it if you wanna be told IC instead! Though you gotta get pretty close to him first~~—————-

The first blow being, perhaps predictably, the calamity of the fallen moon. Though many lost their memories of such a time, Alus and Arc still have vivid memories locked close to their hearts of the days of youth in traveling the entirety of Eorzea and hearing heroic tales of so many an adventurer. Some of the fanciest tales came from their own adoptive father - A Gwenneg Beauregard. He told both fiction and reality, and his greatest passion in life was grabbing the attention of his children with such wonders. He was the hope giver; their inspiring bard, a man of leadership in a position of poverty, but ultimately their greatest hero. A man that never made them feel like the world was destined for destruction. Although the calamity was ultimately a victory for Eorzea, many things were still lost and unsaved - and such a life as Gwenneg’s was unfortunately one of them while the brothers stayed safe, far away. The details of such an event are one of the few things they unfortunately struggle to remember proper, however the effect was still immense.

After multiple negative instances of skipping from caretaker to caretaker in an age of roughly 15 each, Gwenneg’s remaining acquaintances and friends finally generously offered to put the children in a somesuch of a private school instead, and the brothers objected - no longer wishing for outside help, no longer trusting of those they didn’t deem especially close. In truth they were ultimately just stubborn, feeling betrayed by the thoughts of heroism and truth and perfection they had until then were told to be reality.

Due to circumstances I am not in the place to name, Arc eventually left Alus on his own to find his own path in life. Alus thenceforth passively accepted the invitation to schooling, unsure what else to do - completely alone, completely devoid of order from those he trusted, his last resort accepted. The next several years of his life were spent with his heads in the clouds, dreaming of stories old and new like the ones his father used to tell. His heart and mind swelled over time with unrest, and after failing his final quiz - He quit, and left back for Eorzea. Near the docks of Limsa Lominsa did he meet his brother again by chance, now working as a common bartender.

Alus now had as much of a motivation to move on as Arc seemingly did back then when he had left him; He would become a hero like in Gwenneg’s tales. He would bring happiness and order back to the world as a knight in shining armor, a heroic paladin or prince charming. He would do everything in his power to once again fight for what he believed in, regaining the trust he had in Gwenneg back then - Carrying on his legacy in creating it as reality’s truth when it had previously proven to him to have fallen from grace for the egg’s cracking.

Although Alus may have had the right to be upset at Arc at that time, he had promised himself to spread trust and happiness to the world. He accepted Arc back with open arms, and Arc willfully followed him - despite acting a bit of a inelegant party animal at times instead of a hero.

That was the first regaining of hope.

Moons passed - Alus and Arc quickly and miraculously climbed the latter to heroic stardom thanks to their incredibly well-synced teamwork and the immense sheer determination in Alus to become what he wished to.

Three small words passed by the lips of one of those they helped - “Warrior of Light” was reminded and resounded inside them. “That is it..! I am a Warrior of Light!” Alus exclaimed. Arc shook his head in disbelief, saying again and again that it was only a legend, nothing more.Though Alus - he was not one to give up hope anymore. His heart screamed it to be true, and that was thenceforth what he would believe in himself.

More moons passed. Higher and higher profile work was given to them for the good of mankind. They created friends and followers, partners-in-arms believing in their message. Although they were both a bit socially awkward, their childish dreams slowly became more and more true, and continued to do their best to lead a small army.

Eventually, however, this inevitably stepped on some toes of power enemies, armies even they could not conquer.

A large-scale battle went sour. Alus and Arc were lucky to live through it again, but showed up late due to an outside deception. Dozens of bodies surrounded them. Alus did not understand, it could not be comprehended to his innocent and optimistic mind. He cradled the bodies already going cold, doing his best to cast his measly healing spells - to no avail. Once the bodies were buried, Alus went again to the statue of Thal whence he regularly prayed - and in anger, smashed his hand into it. “Why must they be taken?” he spoke in a shaky voice. “Is this not imbalanced?!” he screamed.

Yet again hope felt crushed and illogical to his thoughts. In Alus’ mind it was good vs. evil - and good was always destined to prevail, as long as it worked itself to the bone. He felt he was doing good enough. He felt as though it made no sense for evil to win like this.

Days passed. The twins’ superiors asked them to finish the deed, to track down the villains that slaughtered their friends in ambush. Alus, for the first time, did not care. He avoided work. It was like he was in an entranced, passive sadness and rage. Arc finally pulled him to do one more mission. There, they found something unusual.That was when Hydaelyn spoke in a vision. Clear as day, even Arc had seen it;

“Go, my Warriors of Light -”

and to Alus’ heart, it was a confirmation of a positive truth. Though the deaths of his friends he still found unjust to the morality of the world, he trusted the Goddess’ words - there was an evil to still be vanquished, as there must be a villain for every hero. The unfairness would not stop until he continued to become better and better. Even Arc began to fully believe despite his previous words.

Alus trained hard every day. He would never let anything stop him again.

More moons passed.

The thoughts of their deaths plagued his mind, still - he began the forbidden wonderment if he was the villain at all, himself, for he would too sometimes lose; for he too continued to see the bodies of his combative brethren fall around him; for he too saw the tears in the eyes of the men he befelled with his so-called righteous blade.

Adventure after adventure passed. Upon unusual circumstance, they found themselves at the Church of Adama Landama, a place they were once told to have been found as babes. There they worked for a time. Alus spoke with the priests of Thal. He found comfort in their passions as priests and mages to help others.

Once they resumed work again as soldiers, Alus’ grip loosened on his blade.

In a sunset-dyed sky in Thanalan, wind low and graceful - the heat died down in cold. “Arc…?” he beckoned in a soft, shaking voice.

Turning, his blade dropped lazily from his hand, his arms heavy on his sides. His face streamed tear after tear, yet his face remained stoic.

“I do not want to hurt anyone anymore.” he whispered.

This conflict was frightening. They had a duty to do, and Arc could do nothing but place a reassuring hand on his brother’s shoulder. They both understood it was not an option. And yet, they both seemed to understand that it was an ultimate wish. They knew that Hydaelyn made them her heroes.

Alus procrastinated. Arc procrastinated. They’d avoid work someone else could do despite how irresponsible it was. They just did not care to think about it at times at all.

In such a time - Alus made the promise to himself to never pick the blade up again. But he could pick up a wand and do the opposite of the sins he committed - he could heal, and that is all he could do. That was all he could do at this point to make himself feel at all better for being a symbolic slave to his country’s war, to a fucked up morality of black-and-white he could no longer knowingly agree with even if it was ultimately aligned to the “greater good”, of which he had to constantly therefore question.

Whilst alone in conflict, he began to heal his enemies from the brink of death. He’d bribe them with coin or food, or anything else he could spare they might like. He aligned himself with beastmen, he spoke to pirates and bandits and thieves, he allowed himself at the mercy of the most hated beings of eorzean society’s standards - And you can bet your ass he was constantly on the verge of being branded a criminal and beaten and left in the wilderness at any time he angered the wrong person.

He did continue to fight and occasionally kill in the line of duty, of which he constantly regretted. It was like he was fighting himself, or that he had two sides of his personality - One that would bully and fight an enemy, and the other that would visit the enemy shortly after the battle to do anything he could to make up for it. He is not very well liked in any form of politics, and he is completely fine with that - Most politics to him are bullshit anyway, as most modern ideas of morality seemed skewed to be.

He isn’t the hero he wanted to be at the beginning of his journey, far from it. He’s slowly come to accept that the world is unfair and horrible, and that there is no such thing as a happy ending - The world will continue until something bad inevitably happens, even if you want to close your eyes the second something good happens and let the credits roll. He knows that he will most likely die someday tired, possibly killed by someone he even tried to awkwardly help, if not the government of a friendly yet corrupt country - that or eventually become sort of priest at best.

Alus does not believe in happy endings anymore. He doesn’t believe such a romantic thing can exist, or is reasonable to expect to exist. In that he finds some sort of peace in not having such a high standard. He can then find happiness in every little good thing that happens - a life being saved, someone falling in love, the flowers blooming on what was once a battlefield trampled by soldiers, or a kid hearing a tale of hope from their parent.

His standard for a happy ending is extremely high. If any, it’s that all war on the planet finally ceases and equality for every race, beastman or human, is achieved. He hopes that the world will one day become a place where no biased hatred exists, where everyone can understand and love eachother regardless of their differences - as long as they aren’t hurting anybody, of course. He wishes for a world where nothing - no religion, no politic, no “side” can part people. And he sure as hell knows that it is most likely none of those things will happen any time soon, lest soon enough for him to live to see it.

In this way, his nihilism has somehow given his mind the freedom to do his best enjoy what he can before it all crumbles away, instead of pointlessly dreading something that is inevitable.

Sorry for such a huge wall of text. But yeah, there’s your frickin’ total backstory.

 So I’ve found this a m a z i n g Arcana Apprentice Ask Meme created by @gooddoctorjules and ofc i had to fill it because i like to talk about my OCs and omg this questions were so GOOD!  Answers under cut cause some of them were pretty long

 1. What is their full name? What does it mean? Do they go by any nicknames/aliases?

His name is Morpheus Rhiannon. “Morpheus” is the Greek God of Dreams and “Rhiannon” is one of the Celtic Goddesses of the Moon (I have a thing for naming characters after mythological figures). When he was younger people used to call him “stormy” due to his spitfire personality and impulsive behavior. He didn’t change his ways, but he lost touch with the people who nicknamed him that. During some years he ran his exoteric shop under a pseudonym, “Felis” (named after the cat constellation). But nowadays everyone just call him Morpheus.

2. Do they have a familiar? What is it?

Morpheus has a small Egyptian Fruit Bat called Boo. She is tiny and scared of everything and everyone. Boo likes to hide in Morpheus scarf sometimes. Also, not a familiar but Morpheus has a lot of cactuses. All named George. All. Of. Them. Don’t question it.

3. What type/s of magic do they specialize in?

I’m not really sure how magic works in The Arcana. Besides from fortune-telling (he used to read runes before Asra taught him his tarot skills) and a very strong sixth sense, I believe Morpheus would be an Oneiromancer (a mage who interprets dreams) and have a few lightning-related attack spells.

4. Which of the major arcana best represents them?

I guess all the apprentices are meant to be The Fool card, at least in the beginning of the story, since it means, among other things, “Set forth on a new journey, one that is completely unknown and will take you to uncharted territories”, pretty fitting. But I think Morpheus can also be represented by a Reversed Moon card: It means he’s living in a moment of unhappiness and discomfort but he doesn’t know what he can do about it. Past experiences made him doubt himself, doubt if he is able to move forward. The Reversed Moon also means he is in a more intuitive phase than a reasoned one, though his intuition feels confusing which leads to possible misinterpretation.

Also, if I had to pick a future card for Morpheus, it’d be The Judgement: “With its theme of awakening to new life, the Judgement card suggests that you have reviewed and evaluated your past experiences and have learned from them. All the pieces of the puzzle of your life are finally coming together to form one, integrated picture of your life story. This integration has healed any deep wounds and you are now in a position to put the past behind you.”  

And since I’m super into runes, I’d like to add that Morpheus runes are Perthro (Secrets, mystery, occult abilities. Determining your path in the future.) and Algiz (Awakening, connection with higher powers. Follow your intuition. A desire to protect yourself or others.)  

 5. What animal best represents them?

Either a raccoon or a peacock. Raccoon because he is small (kinda, he is 5’7/171cm), has dark circles under his eyes, looks cute but will fight you and peacock because he’s super flamboyant. As for his spirit animal, I think the one that fits him best is the bat (maybe that’s why he has a pet bat). The bat represents people that are aware and sensitive of their surroundings, that can have high psychic levels, have high chances of have prophetic dreams and are not easily fooled by illusions.

6. Describe their grimoire profile.

The spitfire apprentice who’s trying to find meaning to his life. ♐

Chaotic Neutral leaning towards Chaotic Good.

9. Which Hogwarts house would they be in?

Probably Slytherin. Morpheus personality is loosely based on mine, and I’m a slytherin, so…

10. Of the nine intelligences (logical-mathematical, existential, interpersonal, intrapersonal, kinesthetic, spatial, naturalist, musical, linguistic), which is their greatest strength? Their greatest weakness?

In order of the greatest strength to the weakness: Linguistic, Spatial, Existential, Musical, Naturalist, Kinesthetic, Interpersonal, Logical-Mathematical, Intrapersonal.

Basically he is great at writing, loves books and sucks at understanding his own feelings.

11. What did they think of Asra leaving? Of his gift? 

Morpheus relationship with Asra is… complicated, as the baker said. Morpheus likes Asra, he really enjoys his company. But every time he feels they are getting closer, Asra leaves. In the beginning, he didn’t mind the secrecy around Asra’s travels but as the time passed, it started to bother Morpheus. A lot. He doesn’t understand why his master doesn’t trust him after all this time. So when Asra said he was leaving again, Morpheus got really pissed. About the gift, well… It’s not like Morpheus wasn’t marveled by the tarot deck but his sixth sense tells him that cards are trouble. He didn’t really want to accept the deck, he doesn’t need it, he can very well use his runes for guidance. Plus, the fact that it’s the first time Asra leaves that bloody cards behind is suspicious.

12. What do they think of Nadia’s request that they go to the palace?

First of all, Morpheus doesn’t like Countess Nadia at all. He thinks she is tyrant who doesn’t care about her people. So when she shows up in the middle of the night demanding that he goes to the palace his first thoughts are “Who does she think she is? I mean she is the Countess and all but still??”. He was planning in ignoring her request, but after the card telling him she has a plan in motion he got curious about it and decided to give it a chance. When he actually went to the palace and heard what Nadia had in mind he was like “Nope. I don’t want to be a part of it. Nonononono NO”. However, even though Morpheus made it very clear he wouldn’t cooperate with the Countess, she didn’t really care, so… yeah. Let’s just say “curiosity killed the cat” is a very fitting proverb.  

13. What do they think of the various animals they encounter at the palace?

MUST. PET. THEM. ALL. Yes, even the vampire eels. Seriously now, Morpheus really like animals, but knows how to respect them. He has plenty conscience that some creatures are only to be admired from a distance, which seems to be the case with most of the animals he encountered in the palace, unfortunately.

14. What is their day-to-day outfit? What do they wear when the dress up (such as for the masquerade)?

In his day-to-day Morpheus likes to wear comfortable clothes, usually tapered harem pants and a tunic or a gypsy shirt, with flats on his shoes. His clothes are mostly in shades of purple and black, with some sea-green accessory. In a fancier meeting, he’ll go more flamboyant. The pants would be less baggy, the shirt would be more open with the classic Arcana Tiddy Window™ and he’d probably wear a shawl around his waist. He would wear lace-up boots with a short heel. The color palette would be the same but more sparkly. In his head he’ll use a silver circlet, and some bracelets with fake coins.   As for the masquerade, I picture him with a very open dark red shirt, which pretty much just covers his shoulders and arms, matching colors with an asymmetrical sarong skirt, over the shirt and skirt he wears a purple corset with some jades decorating it. Bellow the shirt he wears a light brownish flare pants. As for shoes, he wears bright red ankle strap high heels. And last, but not least, he wears a bright red choker on his neck, to match the shoes.

15. What is their favorite type of weather/environment?

Morpheus likes cold and rainy weather. He hates when it gets too hot, it makes him grumpy and even lazier than he usually is. Also the earthy smell after the rain reminds him of home.

16. Do they have any prized possessions?

Even though Morpheus is not the type to get attached to things, he has two very prized possessions. One is a small and rusty green dream-catcher with a single agate stone stuck in the middle. When Morpheus was younger he had terrible nightmares every night, he’d wake up screaming and crying and had a really hard time going back to sleep. So his mother made that dream-catcher to help him out. He never find out if it was actually enchanted at that time or it just helped ease Morpheus mind. The second thing is his set of runes. His older brother made it to him out of red wood once they started noticing Morpheus had a gift for fortune telling. Morpheus used those runes to read the fortune to some people in his home-town, earning a few extra coins for his family. Nowadays he uses another set, made of tourmaline stones, but every time he needs guidance to himself, he runs back to his old redwood runes. 17. Do they collect anything?

Yes, he collects cactuses, heartbreaks, and untrustworthy friendships.

18. What sort of first impression do they make?

Looks wise most people mistake him for a woman. Not that he minds, he’s fine with it. Morpheus has a very androgynous face, wears quite feminine clothes and a lot of make-up, so it’s easy to get confused. Now, about his personality, people often think he is cocky, they think Morpheus thinks he is better than anyone else. This is totally not the case. Morpheus is quite shy, so sometimes his answers may sound a bit cocky due to being short. I mean, he can be sassy sometimes and talk without thinking but he usually tries to be nice with strangers and costumers.

19. How do they deal with conflict?

He throws bottles at them. Morpheus is extremely impulsive, he acts before he thinks, and it applies to conflict as well. When it’s a physical conflict, he’ll attack even if the odds of him winning the fight are very unlikely. I mean, he did throw a bottle at Julian even though the doctor is like 17cm/3inches taller than him. In verbal conflict, he says everything that comes to his mind without paying much attention to what he’s actually saying, which may ended up being more harmful than he intended or, sometimes, he may accidentally let information slip. 20. What are their principal goals?

Morpheus believes that everyone comes to the world for a reason; everyone has one meaning in life. He just doesn’t know what his reason and meaning are. He wants to figure out what is his role in the world.

The best infographics are concise and easy to view. As such, they usually focus on just a single topic. Don’t try to make it another blog post or, worse, a mini whitepaper that tries to cover far too much in far too little space.

Cite everything

Infographic statistics and mini-sized facts can seem like they came out of nowhere, which reduces the credibility of the asset when someone tries to verify them. Include a list of URLs and other sources at the end of the infographic to show your work.

Video guidelines

For videos, the same general advice about brevity applies, along with a few more pointers specific to the format:

Use subtitles

Closed captions began as an accessibility feature, but they benefit everyone. For starters, they’re one of the best ways to increase viewer focus and a preference of Gen Z viewers in particular. Brands such as Dunkin’ have also made creative use of subtitles to call attention to marketing messages that might otherwise get lost in the din of a busy social media feed.

Think about animation

Animation is a great way to give a video a distinctive aesthetic and expand the range of what it can portray. This DocuSign explainer video makes the most of its animation to show its subject performing a bunch of different tasks in various contexts, before pivoting to a depiction of her going “all digital” as papers fly across the room.

Incorporate CTAs

You should always have an answer for viewers wondering what to do next. An effective CTA will direct them without seeming too salesy. Dropbox incorporated a pitch-perfect CTA – “Keep teams flowing” – at the end of this action-packed 30-second video which also calls out the “flow” verbiage earlier on to set up the conclusion.

2. Tailor your content to each platform

Every social media channel has its own distinctive character. Accordingly, it’s essential to fine-tune your content for each one. That process starts with analysing details from tools like Instagram Insights and Facebook Audience Insights, which offer details on audience location, age, gender, and more.

Knowing these details makes it easier to dial-in your messaging, create buyer personas, and take advantage of the features of the platforms you’re using, whether that’s a live video on Instagram, a curated collection on Pinterest, or a text post on LinkedIn. Here’s a primer on what to keep in mind for some of the most popular social channels.

Facebook

Facebook posts with images or videos in them get more than twice the engagement of ones without any visuals.

With that in mind, a useful tactic is to mix text and pictures to take advantage of Facebook’s relatively large character limit and engage the audience in multiple ways. Nike did this in a spot featuring basketball star LeBron James, which was accompanied by a short poem that wouldn’t have fit on platforms such as Twitter.

If you go the text-only route, asking for audience input and responses is also a generally reliable technique for boosting engagement.

YouTube

YouTube’s algorithms recommend shorter videos to mobile users, who account for 70% of all YouTube views, and longer ones for anyone using the TV app. That might make it seem like short videos are best. However, half of video-viewing time on smartphones is on videos 20 minutes or longer, and these videos drive higher ad revenue. So it pays to mix up your video lengths while always thinking about the hook in your intro and the overall production quality of the video.

Instagram

Instagram’s distinctive, filter-driven aesthetic puts a premium on visual flair, but posting beautiful imagery alone won’t be enough to consistently engage the platform’s largely under-35 audience. Successful Instagram videos from brands often take the form of a product sneak preview, a behind-the-scenes video tour of an interesting site, a narrative, or a contest. This Salomon audience caption contest – about abolishing cliches about women – is a strong example of the latter.

Pinterest

The long half-life of content on Pinterest means that evergreen assets do particularly well on this platform. Information-dense infographics are also perfect for Pinterest due to their predominantly vertical layouts, but it’s important to get the right aspect ratio. Pinterest recommends 600 x 900 pixels, or a 2:3 width to height ratio for the best results.

LinkedIn

Compared to the other social networks examined here, LinkedIn has a design that’s more text-oriented, which makes sense given its role as a clearinghouse for resumes, career updates and business news. That creates an opening for content types that might struggle to stand out elsewhere. While native video is gradually becoming a powerful force on LinkedIn, it’s also possible to get significant engagement with text-only posts, particularly lists and updates interspersed with emojis and slide decks made with the LinkedIn-owned SlideShare.

3. Create a content calendar

When you post is often as important as what you post. I mean, if you were a TV executive, would you air The Bachelor at 2am instead of primetime? Probably not, and the same holds true for publishing the high-quality content you and your team have developed.

In this context, content calendars supported by scheduling tools are your friends.

Consider Facebook. Data assembled by Sprout Social revealed that the highest engagement for Facebook posts was on Wednesdays and Thursdays, between noon and 2pm, with dramatic drop-offs on weekends and after 5pm.

To capitalise on peak posting times, use tools such as Buffer, Dlvr.it, Sprout Social, HootSuite, and CoSchedule. Versatile tools such as Airtable and Feedly can also support advanced scheduling regimens.

What does an effective content calendar look like? It’ll vary by company, but usually it will:

Incorporate a brand persona(s): A brand persona encapsulates your organisation’s voice, whether it’s casual, serious, or somewhere in between. Having a well-defined persona makes it easier to select the right content formats and topics for a calendar. For example, Nike’s performance-centered brand persona has always lent itself well to still imagery.

Make the most of existing assets: You don’t have to reinvent the wheel each time you build or update your content calendar. Evergreen collateral such as old whitepapers or blog posts can often be transformed into infographics or short video explainers that help populate the calendar. Re-optimising this previous content can also yield eye-popping results for metrics like keyword rankings.

Have a variety of “shows”: Content marketing expert Jay Baer came up with this idea of comparing content calendar deliverables to TV shows that maintain regular viewerships. For instance, a quarterly or yearly whitepaper or eBook is like a special episode, while weekly videos or blog roundups are like regularly scheduled programming and series are akin to binge-worthy shows.

4. Harness the power of user-generated content

To kick off 2019, Apple announced its Shot on iPhone contest, a campaign asking any iPhone user to submit a photo taken via iPhone to a panel of judges. The winners would then have their photos featured on official Apple billboards.

It was a smart way to showcase the power of the device’s cameras without needing to resort to heavy-handed marketing speak or the use of Apple-produced photos, either of which might have come off as inauthentic. The idea was that anyone could take a professional-grade photo with the standard-issue iPhone in their pocket – a powerful notion, similar to Andy Warhol’s famous quip that every Coke was, in theory, of equal quality.

This type of user-generated content (UGC) has gained significant traction as brands look for ways to increase social media engagement and reshape perceptions of their authenticity. In addition to the Apple campaign, famous examples of UGC include Coca-Cola’s “Share a Coke” initiative with names that appeared on each can and Starbucks’ White Cup Contest encouraging consumers to doodle on their plain cups and share the images on social media.

UGC has numerous benefits, including:

Increased engagement

Pairing UGC with professionally produced content marketing can raise engagement by 28%, higher than either one on its own. UGC also works around ad blockers and connects with audiences more effectively than either ads or branded content – many consumers trust peer or online recommendations much more than traditional forms of marketing.

Better alignment with audience expectations

A pair of studies from Cohn & Wolfe and Mindshare North America found that trustworthiness and authenticity were in the top five brand attributes important to millennials, who were skeptical of overtly salesy tactics. In this context, UGC can make a big impression.

High cost-effectiveness

A UGC campaign can provide a lot of mileage for relatively little fuel. It can be a low-cost alternative to creating all of your content on your own time and dime, although as we noted earlier the best approach is usually to pair UGC with professionally produced assets.

5. Enlist influencers in your social media marketing campaigns

Like UGC, influencer marketing is a cost-effective way to strengthen and diversify your social media marketing initiatives by tapping into the power of people beyond your own team. An influencer is anyone who has significant clout on a social media platform. Many brands have successfully enlisted influencers to produce high-quality social media posts that reach large, trusting audiences.

Pepsi took this route with its huge #SayItWithPepsi marketing strategy, which revolved around special bottles adorned with 200 unique #PepsiMoji and sold exclusively at Walgreens and Duane Reade. Influencers created a variety of content, including videos, photos, and blog posts, for multiple social media channels.

When did you first start writing?

I don’t remember, exactly? I know I was making tiny books for my toys by the time I was seven. The stories weren’t very long, but I remember being proud of them.

What was your favorite book growing up?

Hmm…IDK if I can remember a specific one? I had a lot of books I liked when I was a kid. Marguerite Henry’s books were pretty high up there, I think. And then when I was…IDK, nine, maybe? my mom got me Katherine Kurtz’s Chronicles of the Deryni trilogy and those (and the other books in that world) were my favorites for a long time.

Are you an avid reader?

Definitely. I don’t get through as many books as I used to internet + fanfic are great at eating up my time, but I read at least a little bit pretty much every day.

Have you ever thrown a book across the room?

I’d never do it physically, but it can be very satisfying to do it in my head when I’m really upset with a book.

Did you take writing courses in school/college?

A little bit. It didn’t work out for me all that well. I can’t write on command, and prompts and such don’t do much for me, so if I wasn’t inspired during class, or we were told to write about a theme I couldn’t think of anything for, things got very frustrating very quickly.

Have you read any writing-advice books?

Quite a few, yes. Sometimes they can be dry, or they give advice I don’t agree with, but they can be helpful. And How Not to Write a Novel is hilarious. XD

Have you ever been part of a critique group?

Not really, no! I’m not sure I could handle it, at least not yet.

What’s the best piece of feedback you’ve ever gotten?

I love all of it! I don’t think I’d appreciate a flame, but thankfully I’ve never gotten one of those *knocks on wood* My favorites are probably the ones that either go into detail about what they think, or are a mess of excited flailing, though. XD (But seriously, it’s all great!)

What’s the worst piece of feedback you’ve ever gotten?

I haven’t gotten anything actually bad, but I did get a review once that said one thing about my story, then spent the rest of the review telling me about their story and asking me to read it. It was kind of awkward.

What’s your biggest writer pet-peeve?

Not having at least semi-decent SPaG. If you’re constantly misspelling things or using the wrong word, if you put multiple speakers on the same line, etc, you’d have to have the most amazing plot in the world for me to even consider continuing.

(Special mention because I’ve seen this a lot recently: putting one character’s actions on the same line as another character’s dialogue. IT GETS SO DAMN CONFUSING. Especially if not every line has a dialogue tag. You can start a new paragraph with action, you don’t have to wait until the moment someone else speaks to go to the next line. Really. I promise.)

What’s your favorite book cover?

I know I’ve seen some awesome ones, but right now IDK.

Who is your favorite author?

Seanan McGuire! Jim Butcher would probably be second.

What’s your favorite writing quote?

No idea? I’ve seen some good ones floating around, but I don’t keep a list or anything.

Like, writing-advice blog, or person-posting-their-writing blog? Either way, I’m not following/reading very many, so it’s hard to make a comparison (Ceren’s writing is really good though!).

What would you say has inspired you the most?

Other stories. Which is not to say that I copy stuff, just that, like, I’ll read a story about ghosts, get interested in the topic, and want to create my own, or I’ll want to write a story that leaves me with the same sort of feeling as what I just read or watched. Stuff like that.

How do you feel about movies based on books?

I still get excited about them even though they rarely come out well compared to the books. I can’t really separate them in my head even when I try, so I’m usually disappointed, but I keep trying and keep looking forward to the movies anyway.

Would you like your books to be turned into TV shows, movies, video games, or none?

Once I actually have books, yes! Any of them, really. I’d want to be sure that whoever was adapting them was treating them with respect, and I’d prefer to have some control over what parts were changed or cut out (or added). And I’d want it to have a decent budget, so it wouldn’t come off looking like a b-movie (TV show, etc).

How do you feel about love triangles?

No thank you. There are stories I’ve liked that had love triangles, but I can’t think of any time where the triangle itself was one of the things I liked. (Someone changing their affections from one character to another I liked better, yes, but not the whole liking-two-people-at-the-same-time-however-will-they-choose thing.)

Do you prefer writing on a computer or longhand?

Computer. Definitely computer. My handwriting is super slow and tires my hand easily. Also, I write with my left hand, so I get ink/graphite all over it when I write. OTL

What’s your favorite writing program?

I’m using LibreOffice at the moment, and it works fine. I’ve heard about some that are supposed to be good that I’d like to check out sometime, though. I’ve been meaning to give Scrivener a try for a while now.

Do you outline?

A general outline, yes. I don’t usually have all the little details figured out, but I know where the story is headed.

Do you start with characters or plot?

Plot, mostly, though sometimes I get an idea for a character that doesn’t really fit in with any of my current stories.

What’s your favorite & least favorite part of making characters?

Favorite is probably getting the initial idea and filling in the general outline, especially when I know just how they’re going to fit into the story and I can feel things starting to click into place.

Least favorite, either designing their outfit (I’m okay with physical appearance, but clothes in particular are not one of my strong points), or getting into the super detailed stuff that shows up on those OC questionnaire lists and will probably never be in the story. I can’t really decide how a character would feel about X topic or what other characters would say about them behind their back or whatever before I’m actually writing the story. When I try, it feels like I’m locking myself into a position and can’t easily change it even if the story would be better if I adjusted the character’s personality.

What’s your favorite & least favorite part of plotting?

Favorite is figuring out the big picture and deciding where it’s all going to end up. Least favorite, probably the stuff in the middle, where I have to figure out exactly how things are going to progress from point A to point B (and all the way on to point Z).

What advice would you give to young writers?

Write! Read! And check out some guides on spelling, punctuation, and grammar at some point. XD

Which do you enjoy reading the most: physical, ebook, or both?

Both! It’s easier to turn pages on ebooks when I only have one hand free, and I love the dictionary function and being able to search for a specific name or word if I don’t remember where in the book I heard it last I also love being able to check out ebooks from the library without leaving the house. But I’ll always love physical books and want to have physical copies of my favorites. They’re easier to flip back or forward to check things, too, like when there’s a map in the front of the book and the characters keep talking about the different cities and countries it’s also easier to spoil myself on the ending if I want to make sure a character survives. ( ￣３￣)～♪

Which is your favorite genre to write?

Supernatural/fantasy. Especially in a more modern setting (though I’m not so big on most sci-fi. I like magic and ghosts and demons ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ ).

Which do you find hardest: the beginning, the middle, or the end?

The middle. Not that the rest is easy, but the middle is usually the hardest.

Which do you find easiest: writing or editing?

Editing, usually.

Have you ever written fan-fiction?

Considering I started this blog because of my fanfiction, I’d say yes. XD My fanfic is longer than anything original I’ve written so far, actually, ahaha.

Have you ever been published?

Nope.

How do you feel about friends and close relatives reading your work?

Pretty scary. Maybe even more than showing strangers, unless it’s a friend I met through writing. *squishes @sircerenade*

My computer desk. It’s not super messy but there’s not a lot of free space, either.

For original stuff? A thing I wrote for a school assignment and decided to expand into a book. I’ve kind of lost the inspiration for it, but there’s always a chance I might come back to it someday. For fanfic, From Mist and Ashes.

What’s your current WIP?

For original stuff, an idea that’s very special to me, with the current working title of Afterword. For fanfic, again, From Mist and Ashes. Plus a dozen or so other ideas crammed in a folder. XD Hey, some of them have a paragraph or so written! They count as WIPs! Honest!

What’s the weirdest story idea you’ve ever had?

Nothing I want to talk about. >.> My really weird ideas never leave my head.

Which is your favorite original character, and why?

From my original stuff? I love them all. But Razai is one of my oldest and probably has the most put into him, so if I had to choose… Kazuya is probably the one I’m most excited about at this moment, though.

What do you do when characters don’t follow the outline?

I see where they want to go, then either I agree with them, we compromise, or I rein them back in and explain why things can’t happen that way.

Do you enjoy making your characters suffer?

I want to? I have a hard time following through, but I try. XD

Have you ever killed a main character?

Does it count if I kill them before the story starts? XD If so, then I’ve killed almost everyone in both my original stuff and Mistyverse. During the actual story…not really, no. Do villains count as main characters? What if they come back to life later? I’m not a fan of character death, so I don’t usually put it in my stories unless there’s something more to it.

What’s the weirdest character concept you’ve ever come up with?

IDK, none of them seem all that weird to me. Though that may just be because of all the manga and anime I’ve been exposed to. X’D

What’s your favorite character name?

I couldn’t pick a single favorite.

Describe your perfect writing space.

I don’t know about physically (I feel like something different than what I currently have would be better, though I couldn’t say what would be ideal without actually trying it), but I need to be alone in the room (kitties are an exception). I can’t focus on writing if there’s anyone else in the room with me.

If you could steal one character from another author and make then yours, who would it be and why?

Tybalt, probably. But only if I could just keep him for myself and wouldn’t be expected to actually take over writing him or anything.

If you could write the next book of any series, which one would it be, and what would you make the book about?

I could never. Way too much pressure.

If you could write a collaboration with another author, who would it be and what would you write about?

I don’t think I could ever do that. I’d be too scared to mention my ideas in case the other person didn’t like them, and I’d be too intimidated to turn down an idea of theirs I didn’t like. Then I’d get frustrated that I couldn’t take the story in the direction I wanted, and the whole thing would end in pain. “OTL

If you could live in any fictional world, which would it be?

My stock answer to this for years has been Pokemon, but I’m sure there are other worlds I’d enjoy as much or more especially if healing/medicine were more advanced than the real world, and there were better opportunities to support yourself by doing something you loved. I wouldn’t want anything too dark or evil, and it would need to have something approaching modern technology or a magic equivalent I don’t want to live in a world without indoor plumbing, thanks.
