"It looked like a good day for setting fence posts, and my mother said so while taking the biscuits from the oven. 'Some morning early, when I can get away, I want you to come with me along the edge of the hill in the wood-lot," she continued. "When the shadows of the trees begin to come down the slope, as the sun rises you feel the turning of the earth. You feel the whole globe under your feet rolling into the sunlight. . . . That's something I found one morning when I was driving the calves to pasture. I've been saving it up for you. I wonder if you've seen a more beautiful dawn in any of the places you've been.'
On my fingers I count the dawns I have seen--memorable, just in being dawns. Sleepy-eyed dawn from the Paris markets after a night of dancing; mist dawn against which I was just to late to see the minarets of Constantinople--all the fault of the stupid stewardess who didn't wake me in time; one startling moment of color on the hills around the Dead Sea before they went colorless in merciless heat; sudden dawn like a clap of light over the freezing-cold Syrian desert. Four dawns in twenty years. No, I do not know dawns as my mother does."
-- Rose Wilder Lane, "A Place in the Country" (1925)
#little house#rose wilder lane#laura ingalls wilder#a little house sampler#i dove into the book seriously this morning#intended to read just the first couple of pieces and kept reading 'just one more' until i've got about 2/3 read#most of laura's pieces are familiar from her farm columns#though there's a couple of early versions of little house stories that show a lot of her voice did get through there#rose's are fascinating#i can't quite wrap my head around her#sometimes she'll seem neurotic and restless and judgey and sophisticated and a bit pretentious#and then she writes some of the most beautiful nostalgic pieces#showing so much love of home and family and the simple joys of life#this piece might be my favorite so far because it grapples with those two sides#after four years as a foreign correspondent she's back at home in mansfield#and she has a new appreciation for her parents and the work they do and the life they've built#now that she's had her adventures and is no longer a restless teen looking to get away from rural poverty#even in the other pieces it's fascinating how much love of her family comes through when you know about the difficult relationships#i should share some quotes from the piece about mary when i get the chance#(also i'm very upset that she didn't write down the story of why she and her parents never read the last book in the school library)#(you don't end with a sequel hook and just leave me hanging ms. lane!)#anyway i love the whole essay that this is from and there are other worthwhile quotes#but i like how this one captures the 'noticing beauty while doing farm work' side of laura that i've come to think of as her trademark

Summary: Emma took Killian home for the holidays as a fake date. Things seemed to be going well…until it didn’t. What happens when two fools in love didn’t confess their love over the holidays like they planned and have to go back home to reality? This. This is what happened…(A twist on fake dating during the holidays)
AN: Well....shit lol here we finally are! I wish I had a good reason for the year and a half delay. Honestly, I got one not so great review and it shook me a bit and I was already iffy about writing. But thank you to so many incredible souls being so encouraging and supporting me to get back into writing. Thank you to @kmomof4 who read all four chapters and edited them (make sure to check them out). I really hope you enjoy this last part as I’m so happy to finally have this out for you all. ALL THE LOVE
Ruby made her way back up to the party, excited to see how the rest of the night would play out after her phone call to Emma. As she made her way back into Killian’s apartment she saw the Nolans as they gestured rather animatedly. Then Ruby rounded the corner and looked in to see who they were yelling at.
Shit.
It was Killian.
And from the looks of it they were letting Killian have it. And he was just standing there taking it.
What the hell did he get into in the last five minutes to warrant this? Ruby was both concerned, but mostly entertained because the sweet sunshine Charmings never yelled. She strolled into the kitchen with a grin, figuring she would enjoy the show. That was until the furious couple saw her - apparently she was their new target.
“Ruby Elizabeth Lucas! You have a lot of explaining to do.”
Ruby was confused to say the least. How the hell was she involved in... whatever this was?
“Um...I don’t know what you’re talking about?”
“Bullshit, Ruby!” She was completely taken back, Mary Margaret never swore. “You just told me that Emma thought Killian was dating Elsa. And last time I checked Killian and Emma have been together for the last three months. So please, explain yourself. Now.”
“I feel like it’s not really my place,” she said, darting her eyes toward Killian, but she could tell no one was buying it. “Listen, Snow White and Prince Charming, your poor sister felt pressured to bring a date home for the holidays. She and Killian decided to go to Ruth’s and tell y’all they were dating so you’d back the hell off. And it worked and everything was fine. Then Elsa showed up and spooked Emma because she thought she lost her chance with him. Because shocker,” she looked fiercely at Killian and had to restrain herself from smacking him upside the head, “they’re both in love with each other and are being absolutely idotic and not telling the other the truth.” She turned back toward the stunned silent Charmings, “And you two are not helping the cause!”
Killian looked up in complete shock, his eyebrows nearly reaching his hair. The Nolans stood gaping at her, obviously not expecting her brutal honesty.
“Listen,” Ruby took a deep breath. “Cut them some slack. You two were acting like Emma was going to turn into some crazy old spinster if she didn’t find a date soon. Also, you two act as though you are a literal fairytale couple.” She shrugged. “Sometimes it’s hard to live up to your kind of love.”
As David stood in shock, Mary Margaret finally spoke up. “We went too far, didn’t we?” That’s when she turned to Killian. “We’re sorry, Killian. We shouldn’t have ever put you in this situation. We love you, we love Emma, and that wasn’t fair...I hope you can forgive our behavior this evening.”
Just as Killian was about to speak up, the door opened revealing an out of breath Emma Swan.
Emma was confused by the odd looks she was receiving as her welcome. She should be used to their bizarre behavior at this point, but this felt different.
As she made her way over to the group her nerves set back in. She was here to tell Killian the truth. She was going to finally confess her love for her best friend. On his birthday. What could possibly go wrong?
“Right, well, this has been fun. Perhaps we should give these two some alone time.” Ruby elbowed the couple so Emma and Killian could have a moment.
As Emma walked towards Killian she finally took in her surroundings and realized how packed the apartment was. “I wish there were less people here…”
“Why, Swan? I love large parties, they’re so intimate. At small parties-”
“-there isn’t any privacy. I like it when you quote things to me.” Looking at him, she realized how close they were. She wasn’t even aware of her own movement toward him. Then she looked into his blue eyes. She missed them.
She missed him.
They stood there, taking each other in. It’d been weeks since they’d been together, really together. Neither one knew how to start.
“Emma, you came.”
She wished in that moment she had something poetic to respond with, but that wouldn’t be Emma. “That’s what she said.”
The two instantly burst into laughter, the tension dying with every laugh.
“I missed you, Swan.” Killian reached his hand out to tuck a loose strand behind her ear, Emma leaned into his touch.
“I missed you too. I’m so sorry I ran…I wish I had a good excuse, but I don’t. I wanted to tell you so many times how I felt. I was going to tell you. On New Year's Eve. I was finally going to tell you. I had this whole plan. It was a good plan. And then Ruby fucking decided to be Chef Julia Child and give me food posioning. And then...I saw how happy you looked with Elsa and I thought, I thought, I’d lost my chance with you.” Emma finally found the courage to look up when she finished.
Killian’s eyes were full of unshed tears. When Emma opened her mouth to try and say something to break the tension Killian wrapped his arms around her. Emma finally took a breath. A breath she had been holding for weeks. He didn’t hate her.
“Emma, my love, I promise nothing happened with Elsa. She was Liam’s fiance. She’s an old friend and nothing more. You though...you’re so much more than that. I’ve been a coward. I’ve hidden behind our friendship, behind the lie we told your family, and I will not do that any longer. I’ve had three words on the tip of my tongue since the night we met, I swear, and I will not waste another minute without you hearing them.”
Emma extracted herself from his grasp. “Before you do, I have something for you.”
Killian lets out a sigh, “Really? Right now?”
Without another word Emma pulled the small red box from her clutch and handed it to Killian. He looked at her with curious eyes. “It’s your birthday, open the damn thing, Jones.”
“So demanding. Now what do we have here? It's a-”
He stopped.
Mistletoe.
It was the most infuriating object that haunted his dreams - well, besides Emma. That trip to her home, the infernal garnish was everywhere.
There was that kiss.
God, that kiss. He relieved it daily, prayed that it wasn’t the last kiss he’d ever share with Emma. Up until this moment he was convinced that would be the case.
“Well, Swan, this is quite the gift. I don’t know exactly what to say.” He scratched behind his ear, a nervous tick they were both well aware of.
“I, um, do you wanna see if it works?” Killian’s eyes shot up to Emma.
“Well, love, seems only right I try it out with you since you were the one that gave me such a generous gift. Shall we...”
Emma cut him off with a bruising kiss, it caught him a little off guard, but it only took a moment for him to catch up. Killian didn’t give a damn that there was a party going on around them. He finally had Emma in his arms. Emma’s hands wandered to the nape of his neck, holding on for dear life. Killian’s hands roamed down her sides before anchoring on her hips, holding her tightly against him. He cursed the fact that Emma was wearing a dress, even if she did look bloody gorgeous in the tight red piece. He couldn’t wait to have that blasted thing on his floor.
They finally broke for air, still clinging to one another, foreheads touching. Killian was ready to dive back in when he looked up and remembered they weren’t alone. Mary Margaret was crying, Ruby was cheering, and David looked slightly annoyed but Killian saw the small smile he was trying but failing to hide.
“Come on, love. I think it’s time we faced the vultures. And I’d like you to meet Elsa, if that’s alright with you?”
“Yeah, I think that’s a pretty good idea, Captain.” Emma reached down and grabbed Killian’s hand before they walked over.
Maybe the trope board wasn't wrong after all.
CSCSCSCSCSCSCSCS
As the party went on, Killian and Emma were inseparable; the two constantly touching the other. At one point, while talking to Mary Margaret and David, Emma laid her head on Killian's shoulder, something she'd done a million times, but this time Killian placed a gentle kiss on her forehead.
The two were in their own happy bubble. They pretended to be engaged with those around them, but they couldn't ignore but feel the sparks ignited with each touch.
"So, Emma? It's nice to finally meet you. I'm sorry for the miscommunication. I feel as though that was my fault." Emma was confused on how Elsa seemed to be privy to their issue, but then she saw Mary Margaret across the room and assumed her friend had filled her in.
"Please, don't be. I was...scared I lost my chance with Killian."
"Oh, honey. I don't think you could ever lose this one." Killian squeezed Emma closer to prove her point.
Turns out Elsa was hilarious and had wonderfully embarrassing stories about Killian. Emma had a feeling the two were going to be good friends after tonight.
The party eventually wound down a little after one, slowly the various couples left. That's when Emma realized she was alone with Killian.
Finally.
Suddenly, Emma felt her nerves grow. They'd declared their love and haven't left the others' side since, but she would be lying if she said she wasn't nervous. She absentmindedly threw out some empty cups as she tried to plan her next move.
"Love," Killian called for her from the living room, "can you come here?" Emma slowly made her way into the room as Killian stretched out his arms to embrace her.
"Emma, I...I know that tonight has been a lot. Our relationship has always been a lot. And I know the future is uncertain, but there's one thing I want you to be certain of - I will always be by your side. For as long as you'll let me, my love."
She didn't even know a tear had slipped until Killian pulled back to wipe it.
"I haven't always made things easy. I get spooked easily, but I'm tired of running. I want to be with you, Killian. I love you."
"And I you, my beautiful Swan."
The kiss started off slowly, different than the one earlier, but no less passionate. Emma brought her hands around Killian's neck, playing with the nape of his hair. As Killian kissed down her neck, Emma didn't recognize the noises that escaped her mouth.
As their kisses continued, Emma was surprised when Killian's legs hit the couch and he fell down. She hadn’t been aware that they moved. Emma said she was tired of running, and she was ready to show him. So she straddled his legs and hovered over him for just a moment.
They felt like teenagers again, making out on a couch like this. She could feel him harden beneath her, driving her wild. But, it wasn't enough, she needed more. Emma started unbuttoning his shirt, the bastard already had the top three undone. Without a second thought, she began to rake her fingers through the coarse black hair.
"I've been dying to do this since we first met. So soft," she murmured. Killian found a spot behind her ear that made her mewl. Emma brought her lips to his ear, "I've always wondered how it'd feel against my breasts."
With that, Killian pulled back. "My love, are you sure? We can wait. Because once I have you, I'm never going to let you go." Emma nodded slowly. As she looked into his eyes, she could barely see a trace of blue. His pupils were blown.
Before Emma could stand, Killian wrapped his arms around her to carry her to his bedroom. He only ran into the wall twice as Emma was no doubt leaving marks on his neck. Killian gently placed her in the middle of the bed.
"I always swore that if we got here, I would worship every inch of you."
"Killian, please, worship later. I need you now."
"Just a taste. Patience, darling." Killian was beyond thankful at that moment Emma had opted for a dress as he quickly removed her thong.
Before she could speak, he brought his mouth to her sex. "You're already drenched for me. You..fuck...you taste delicious."
Emma couldn't speak, he was overwhelming in every sense of the word. She grabbed a fistful of his hair, not that she needed to guide him; he knew exactly what he was doing.
Killian replaced his mouth with two fingers. "That's it, Emma. You look so beautiful like this. I want you to come for me, darling. Come and then I'll give you what you really want."
His voice was deeper, accent thicker. Emma had a feeling she could finish from his voice alone, but right now, it was his fingers and mouth that were going to do the trick.
Emma lost all control of her limbs as he sent her over the edge. He didn't let up though, he continued slowly licking as she came back down. As her breathing returned to normal, Killian kissed up her body.
"Worship later, Killian,” she moaned again. “Please. I need you. Now."
"So demanding, Swan,” he observed, taking his pants and boxer briefs off. “I think I like this side of you, all in a commanding voice, chills really."
He climbed back on top of her, but instead of responding, Emma hooked her legs around Killian and flipped him, so he laid on his back. He looked up in awe, he had never been so turned on than in this moment.
Emma decided she was tired of waiting, but before she could sink down Killian stopped her. "Give me a moment, let me grab something, I -"
"I'm clean, and I'm on the pill. I...I don't want anything between us."
"Gods, Emma. If you're sure? I'm good too, I haven't been with anyone since...since we met."
Emma dove down to meet his lips as she sank down onto him. Killian swallowed her gasp as she adjusted to his size. Of course, he lived up to every innuendo, and Emma couldn't be happier for that than in this moment.
For first times, they were both surprised with how easy it was to fall into rhythm with the other. There were only a few slightly awkward moments, but that didn't stop them from enjoying this moment. Emma's hips met Killian's with each thrust, quickly driving the other wild.
"So fucking glorious, Emma. You're so tight like this. Ride my cock, such a good girl. I want to feel you come around me this time. You're stunning when you come. That's...fuck... that's it Emma, take what you need, darling."
Before Emma could even respond, Killian decided it was her turn to be flipped on her back. "Now, if I remember correctly, you wanted to know how it feels with me on top."
"That's, ugh, that's not exactly what I said. But I'm not complaining."
Emma felt that familiar sensation growing in her stomach as Killian's pace intensified. "Killian, I'm close. Together, I wanna -"
"Aye, love, together."
Killian felt her tighten around him as she moaned out in ecstasy, pulling him right after her. He gave her a searing kiss as he spilled himself inside of her. Killian fell on top of her, too exhausted to worry about crushing her for a moment.
"Killian? As much as I love how, uh, close we are now, do you think you can move? I can't breathe, and I need to clean up."
"Oi, you're gonna give a man a complex!" Killian slowly rolled off her, in awe of the glow Emma radiated at the moment. Emma couldn't help but giggle as he was being an annoying ass, but mostly he was still...Killian.
They were still them. Except they just had mind-blowing sex.
She could get used to this new addition to their relationship.
"Stay here, love. Let me." Killian was back in a moment and helped clean Emma. When he finished, he placed a gentle kiss on her forehead, just like before.
"What is it, Swan?"
"Nothing, I'm just happy. It's just so surprising."
"Aye, love, me too. But this doesn't change anything. I've loved you for years now, and we'll go at whatever pace we both see fit, but I'm in this for the long haul."
"As am I, Captain."
The two laid in bed, cuddled close, and shared lazy kisses. When Emma looked at the clock, she saw it was nearly three in the morning. A few weeks ago, Emma had thought nothing good happened after two am; it turns out she was wrong.
"Swan? Can you tell me what the bloody hell a trope board is?"

Just A Little Crush (Nicky/Crystal) - Mac
AN: If you know me at all you know I love this pairing and I think it needs to be talked about more. So I’m talking about it more. Thanks a million to Meggie for beta-ing and being an angel! Love u!
Summary: “Who would have thought beneath all this clown makeup was this such cute twink.” - Nicky Doll
Or: It starts off as a joke. Crystal thinks Nicky is hot. Who doesn’t? But when Nicky gets word of this little crush, she starts to have a bit of fun with a very easily flustered Crystal. But the teasing can only go on for so long until Crystal snaps. And she’s right on the edge…
It started off as a joke.
Nicky and Widow were assigning themselves roles while Crystal flipped through the packet they were given. Her brain was too preoccupied with the ‘holy fuck I made it’ thoughts to concentrate on what all was being said.
“We should play to our strengths, yeah.”
“So you would be the drunk, and I would be the sexy,” Nicky said jokingly to Widow, who threw her head back in a laugh.
Crystal nodded, mind elsewhere.
“I’m the sexy one,” Nicky said to herself.
“Obviously.” Crystal mumbled under her breath, absentmindedly.
Apparently, her mumbling wasn’t as quiet as she thought because, in a split second, Nicky was turning around, focusing her sharp gaze directly on the younger queen.“Oh, obviously, is it? Was that some flirting, Miss Crystal?”
Crystal was so thrown by the intimidating fact of being under Nicky’s scrutiny that she couldn’t even remember what she had said. “What? No, I-”
“Sounded like it to me,” Widow chimed in, an amused expression forming at the sight of her sister so flummoxed.
Crystal tried once more to defend herself, face heating up the longer Nicky kept her eyes on her. “I wasn’t-”
But Nicky cut her off again, “Don’t worry about it, mon chéri. I know I’m stunning.” Nicky tilted her head a bit to the side, and Crystal couldn’t help but notice the way her jawline was so perfectly sculpted. “I don’t blame you for noticing.” Nicky gave a particularly salacious wink, and Crystal scrambled for words.
“I didn’t mean it like-”
“Mhmm, sure you didn’t, Mary.” Widow laughed, then turned back to her paper.
But Nicky was still looking at Crystal with that same curious expression. She looked like she was almost… sizing her up. Crystal, who was still flushed from the sudden attention, wouldn’t meet her eye. Nicky looked her up and down once, twice, and then gave a knowing smirk before turning back to her character sheet in front of her.
Crystal’s brain took a minute to get back online.
Since she had met Nicky, Crystal had been… intrigued. Yes. Intrigued was the right word. She had been intrigued by the self-proclaimed fashion queen’s dry, biting humor and delicious accent.
Not delicious.
That sounded weird.
Her enchanting accent.
Yes.
That was better.
Nicky was… French. She was posh and quick-witted and incredibly talented. And there was so much more to her, Crystal just knew it. The quick chats they had in the Werq Room thus far had shown her as much. Nicky didn’t share a lot, whereas Crystal was about one hair short of telling you her entire life story at any given moment. Nicky was calm, cool, and collected, where Crystal often felt like a meteor tied to a string. They were very different people. So, of course, Crystal was intrigued. It had nothing to do with the French queen’s impeccable jawline and irresistible-
“-and Crystal can talk about the nut butter.”
“What?” Crystal shook her head to clear it and found two pairs of eyes looking at her expectantly.
Widow smiled, that maternal one that Crystal was used to seeing by now. It was both knowing and judging at once. “Earth to Crystal. We got a challenge to win.”
Crystal shook her head once more. “Yeah. Yeah, sorry, just spaced out a second.”
“Well, pull it together, sis. We Missouri queens gotta bring home the crown this season.”
Crystal gave an appreciative smile to Widow. Her kinship with the older queen was growing every day on set, and she felt grateful to have someone on her side.
Nicky was just staring at her with that same wicked glint in her eye. Crystal could feel her face flushing already and had to look away.
The rest of the rehearsal passed relatively uneventfully, with Crystal absorbed in studying her character. She only really noticed something was different when she glanced up halfway through her makeup to make eye contact through the mirror with a familiar face.
“Wh-What are you doing over here?”
“Is it okay if I get ready here?” Nicky asked.
“Yeah, course, I just thought you liked to get ready with Gigi.”
Nicky smirked.“Ooh, are you jealous already? There’s plenty of me to go around.” Nicky ran a hand over her bare chest dramatically, and Crystal couldn’t stop her eyes from traveling along the path she made.
“I’m not- I’m not jealous!”
Crystal cursed her voice for going up an octave.
“Don’t worry, mon amor.” Nicky winked. “It’s sexy.”
Crystal flushed impossibly redder and stared open-mouthed as Nicky went back to applying her makeup.
…
It started as an off-handed comment, but it soon grew to be much more when the rest of the girls overheard their flirting. Well, Nicky’s flirting.
The queens were all gathered around the table in the Werq Room, waiting for the cameras to finish setting up, and someone threw out the brilliant idea of playing fuck, marry, kill. Crystal put air quotes around the brilliant idea part.
They took turns going around the table, scream laughing at Heidi insisting she was a dom top, and how if there weren’t cameras around, she would bend Jan over the table. Only if she had her boy brows, though.
It finally came to be Crystal’s turn, and she smiled sheepishly as her sisters’ attention focused in on her.
After a beat of silence, Gigi just chuckled, “Honestly, I can’t think of anyone for you, cause you’d obviously do all three to Nicky.”
“What-”
Widow cut Crystal off with a laugh, “Girl, don’t get me started. That acting challenge, Miss Crystal couldn’t focus. She was so busy starin’ at Nicky’s ass.”
“I was not!” Crystal tried to defend herself.
It was no use.
The rest of the girls were having a fit. Of course, the quote-unquote weird girl of the season would fall for the fashion model.
Nicky only watched in amusement and shot Crystal a wink when they made eye contact.
Finally, Ru’s voice called to them through the television screen, and the girls made their way over. Crystal was saved for the moment.
But only for the moment.
Every chance they got, her fellow season 12 sisters would poke fun at her little crush on Nicky.
Not crush.
It wasn’t a crush.
It was just an attraction.
That’s all.
And who could really blame her? When Nicky looked like that and sounded like that and dressed like that and smiled like that and laughed like that and-
And maybe it was a crush.
A little one.
“-for your look?”
Crystal suddenly realized Nicky was standing in front of her and had apparently asked her a question.
“Umm, what?”
“Maybe if you stopped checkin’ out Nicky’s ass, you’d have heard her,” Widow hollered from across the room. The girls fell into another bout of laughter, and Crystal just ducked her head.
She looked back up to see Nicky waiting for her expectantly. Crystal pulled her notebook over and flipped through the first pages of her outline. Nicky leaned in close, so her chin was nearly resting on Crystal’s shoulder. The younger queen tried to ignore the appreciative hums Nicky was making so close to her ear.
“That looks stunning.” Nicky’s voice dropped, and she spoke in a whisper that brushed the shell of Crystal’s ear.
She knew what she was doing.
That thought struck a chord in Crystal.
Up until now, she had been playing right into Nicky’s hands. Acting like a damn teenager in lust. Nicky was winding her up. Teasing her to get a reaction.
If it were anybody else, Crystal would be pissed as hell. But something about the way Nicky’s eyes slid down her face made Crystal sure that the attraction wasn’t one-sided.
“Not as stunning as you though,” Crystal shot back before she could lose her nerve.
Nicky clearly was not expecting this answer, but she didn’t let it read on her face. She just gave Crystal that damn smirk again. “Oh, really?”
Crystal only nodded.
Nicky looked back at the sketchpad and reached out to trace along the headpiece, purposefully brushing her arm against Crystal’s. “I really like this bit here.”
Crystal couldn’t stop her eyes from sliding closed. Nicky being up in her personal space was making her head a bit fuzzy.
“Nicky?” Crystal nearly whispered.
“Yeah?”
Crystal opened her eyes, “What are you doing?”
Nicky shrugged. “You’ve been checking me out the whole time, thought I’d repay the favor.”
Crystal chuckled lightly. “Oh, and what’s the verdict?”
Nicky looked Crystal up and down, practically undressing her with her eyes. “Inconclusive.”
“Really?”
Nicky leaned in ever so slightly, so her breath would hit Crystal’s lips. “I need more data.”
Crystal flushed a deep red.
So much for not being a bumbling idiot.
…
It had started as a joke. But now Crystal couldn’t get her makeup done without Nicky by her side. The two of them had made a little corner for themselves, separated, as much as possible considering, from the rest of the girls. It almost felt like their own little refuge.
As time had gone on, their flirting, well, Nicky’s flirting had simmered down a bit. She still looked at Crystal like she would devour her if she got too close, but she also was giggling more, letting loose.
And there was this new thing. This tension. It cracked and fizzed in the air around them. Crystal couldn’t pinpoint when it started, only that when Nicky reached over to move a piece of hair away from her face, Crystal may have stopped breathing.
Nicky leaned back and smiled proudly to herself. “Better. Now we can see your hair in all its glory.”
“Now you’re messing with me.” Crystal blushed and ducked her head.
“No, I like it! It’s sexy,” Nicky insisted.
“You’re into mullets? Wouldn’t have pegged you the type.” Crystal chuckled lightly.
“What is that supposed to mean?”
“Well, you look like- like that,” Crystal gestured to the whole of Nicky. “I just thought you were into… I dunno. Something prettier.”
“You are pretty.”
Crystal looked up to meet Nicky’s eyes. It was a genuine compliment. The first words not laced with innuendo or with the sole purpose of getting under Crystal’s skin.
“Not as pretty as me though, obviously,” Nicky said, suddenly looking away and licking her lips nervously.
Nervously. Huh. Nicky was nervous. Maybe all this time that she had spent winding up Crystal was affecting her too.
When Crystal didn’t respond immediately with her usual wit, Nicky looked up at her again. Crystal knew she still looked a bit dumbfounded, maybe that’s why Nicky looked away and licked her lips again.
“Stop doing that.” Crystal blurted out.
“What?”
“Licking your lips.” Crystal couldn’t stop herself now, intent on seeing how far she could push the older queen now that she had her off-kilter.
Nicky smirked, a bit of her cockiness returned, and she met Crystal’s eyes again. In one graceful movement, she leaned over into Crystal’s personal space. “Why, is it tempting you?” Her voice was low and husky, and Crystal could feel the air on the ends of Nicky’s words brush against her face.
“Yes,” Crystal answered, honestly.
Nicky froze like she hadn’t expected that answer. Like she hadn’t expected that after all this time of teasing Crystal that she would have the balls to actually say something.
“W-well, why don’t you do something about it then?”
The hint of a tremble in Nicky’s voice, the first crack in her pristine facade, made Crystal press on.
“Maybe, I will.”
Crystal shocked herself with how brazen she was being, but she didn’t have time to second guess herself. Crystal inched even closer.
Suddenly, the space between them multiplied. Nicky had stepped back and was now holding out her hand. “Karl,” Nicky blurted.
“What?”
“My-my name. Karl Sanchez.”
After a moment of processing on Crystal’s part, and an impatient shaking of Nicky’s hand in the air, Crystal finally took the hint and Nicky’s hand.
“Cody.”
“Nice to meet you, Cody.”
Nicky smiled, and the twinkle was still there, albeit a bit dimmer this time.
“Likewise.”
…
It started off as a joke.
Somehow it ended up being a thing. And now here Crystal was. With this unbearable crush on this unbearable boy who was hell-bent on making her fall head over heels.
The whole tension thing has only ratcheted up more and more as time had gone on. Each brush of their hands or stolen glance made Crystal’s stomach flip. She wanted to beat herself up about it, but she couldn’t find the willpower. This thing. This tension. It wasn’t just her. She was sure of it.
She was sure of it because she followed Nicky out on one of her smoke breaks.
The French beauty smiled at the sight of her, blowing out a puff of smoke before walking closer.
Crystal didn’t know what she expected coming out here. Only that it had been weeks. Weeks of this tension and she was going mad. They had been dancing around each other. They both knew the tension existed. They both knew it had an end.
Crystal was more sure of herself now. But as Nicky approached, she scrambled for words.
“Karl,” Crystal said it like a warning. Maybe it was.
Nicky didn’t listen. “What? You’re going to tell me you don’t want me?” She sauntered even closer, flicking her cigarette away before wrapping her arms around Crystal’s shoulders. “That you don’t want to fuck me?”
“Karl,” Crystal said it like a warning. This time it was.
She could feel her control slipping. Every inch of her body alight and on fire.
Nicky pressed their foreheads together lightly, “I don’t believe you.”
Crystal snapped.
Her hands worked of their own accord and pulled Nicky in by the hips, pressing their bodies impossibly close.
Crystal’s mouth started moving before she could stop and overthink, “You’re right. I do want to fuck you. Because you’re fucking hot. You walk around like my goddamn wet dream with your fucking voice, and you make me crazy.” Crystal was breathing heavily and using every ounce of restraint to keep from biting Nicky’s lip her damn self.
Nicky, for her part, opened her mouth, but no words came out.
“But I know I do the same to you.” Crystal smirked.
Nicky’s nose scrunched up, and Crystal could see her about to argue, so she inched even that much closer. And Nicky’s eyes nearly glazed over.
Nicky fumbled her words, “W-Well I-”
Crystal cut her off. “Tell me I’m wrong.”
If it were anyone else, Crystal would have sworn she heard Nicky whimper.
“Tell me I’m wrong, and I’ll go away. I’ll stop,” Crystal repeated.
Nicky opened and closed her mouth once, twice, and a third time before finally swallowing. “You’re not wrong,” she whispered, and Crystal could feel the exhale on her lips.
“Then kiss me.”
“You first.”
Crystal didn’t wait a second longer before leaning in to finally, finally close the distance between them. The kiss wasn’t as frantic as she expected. It was passionate while still being cautious. They were still testing the waters out. Of course, Nicky tried to shove her tongue down Crystal’s throat after about thirty seconds, but Crystal wouldn’t let her, content to make this one last.
When she finally pulled away, Nicky looked every bit the blushing idiot she had made Crystal into over the past few weeks. The younger queen tried to muster a smug smile, but all that came about was a contented one.
Nicky blushed even deeper at the lack of teasing and ducked her head in an attempt to break eye contact.
“Stop looking at me like that,” Nicky said.
Crystal grabbed her waist more firmly and pulled the older queen closer, the action nearly making Nicky fall into her arms and forcing their eyes to meet.
“You first.”

It’s time for a challenge ladies and gents!
I absolutely love the TV show Psych! It’s one of my all time favorite shows and the dialogue in it is downright hilarious! Because of this I thought why not do a challenge using the dialogue from the show as prompts! That being said, I have selected 50 quotes from the show for the prompts!
ON TO THE RULES, REGULATIONS AND PROMPTS!
Rules
No need to be following me, but it would be nice, this is open to everyone.
Send me an ASK with your prompt choice (along with a backup) and your pairing of choice. Reblogs or replies with entries will be ignored. Asks without pairings indicated will be ignored. It just makes everything easier for me to keep track of this way.
I will be answering these asks privately so I don’t clog up everyone’s dashboards, which means no entering on anon. If you want to enter and will be posting on a side blog just let me know the name of the blog in your ask.
There will be only one spot open per prompt, however if this garners enough interest and all the prompts get taken I may open it up to two
This can be used as a oneshot, drabble or start of a series. Please don’t make it part of an ongoing series, I want to be able to read every fic in the challenge and I will not be able to catch up on a bunch of series.
Use the tag #ivehearditbothwayschallenge within the first five tags on the post
Be sure to mention that the fic is for my challenge as well as tag me in the actual post.
All pairings are welcome but please check my FAQ to see what I do and do not read.
Your pairing must be within the Marvel fandom.
It can be as short or as long as you’d like. All I ask is that if it is over 500 words to please use a keep reading feature.
Sign ups begin as soon as this is posted and will end April 30, 2020 the day before the challenge due date.
Posting begins whenever you finish writing!
Entries will be due by May 1, 2020. If you need an extension at any point or need to drop out just shoot me a message chances are I’ll say yes – we all have lives and things get in the way so I totally get it.
I will update the prompt list as often as possible with what is still available. Once a prompt has been filled I will cross it out.
Some of the prompts have characters’ names from the show, I will put these in [ ] so you know to change them!
HAVE FUN! I want you guys to enjoy this!
I think that just about covers it for the rules! If you have an questions feel free to drop an ask! Now let’s move on to the prompts!!

“We take our hand-held entertainment very seriously.”
“Everyone stop what you’re doing and only pay attention to me.”
“They tell me I got something called Narcissistic Personality Disorder. But, uh, the truth is this lustrous hair and dimpled chin are merely chapter one. “I can’t help being a gorgeous fiend. It’s just the card I drew.”
“What isn’t clear is why people always say ‘goes without saying’, yet still feel compelled to say the thing that goes without saying. Doesn’t that bother you?”

“Are you in my apartment?” “Please. I haven’t snuck into your apartment for weeks. Which reminds me, you’re all out of peanut butter.” @thorfanficwriter
“I can’t believe you thought that text was from me. It lacked all nuance, my signature mocking tone, and was utterly devoid of emoticons.”
“Well, fooling around with your best friend’s sister certainly wasn’t your most brilliant idea.” “No, that was the toaster alarm I invented in the third grade that woke you up by smacking you in the face with a waffle.”
“I have an idea, but we’ll need cool names.”
“[Mindy] it’s official: you’ve won bitchiest banana.”
“Just call me the suck-stopper. No, wait. Don’t ever call me that.”
“Well, at least that gives us the ‘how’. Now we just gotta figure out the ‘why’, which reminds me, [Gus], will you please get us those tickets for The Who?” “Where?”
“Where do I get a juice box and does it come in grapalicious.”
“I think your shirt and his shirt should get together and go bowling.”
“I’m gonna crack her like a bad back!”
“How about you play six degrees of kiss my ass?”
“Where’d you get that suit, the toilet store?”

“We find the mystery lover, we find her.” “Dude. Why don’t I ever get to say things like that?”
“There is something I’ve got to get off my chest.” “Is it your shirt? Please say no.”
“Heard about Pluto? That’s messed up.”
“This place is trashed.” “Maybe Johnny Depp stopped by.” “I’m sorry, did that joke just arrive in a time machine from 1992?”
“Don’t touch that, it’s blood.” “It’s not blood.” “Enjoy your hepatitis.”
“There’s a Lt. Crunch here to see you.” “Crunch?” “Actually, I’ve been promoted. It’s Captain Crunch.”
“How do you just eat when there’s a dead guy laying there?” “What, is that rude? Am I supposed to share?” @mermaidxatxheart
“I just got a lap dance from Patrick Swayze!”
“Kudos on the childrearing. Let me know how the therapy goes.”
“You’re dating a murderer!” “Not exclusively.”
“Okay, you have got to stop calling your nose the Super Smeller. If you want to nickname a body part, nickname your butt, man. Call it the Tight-Bouncer or the Hexagon. Ladies are gonna dig that.”
“You cannot sit here alone in the dark in a parked car. You’ll get picked up for Mopery.” “Mopery?” “With intent to creep. Trust me, you don’t want that. It’ll put a big hole in your future.”
“How can you tell that someone’s a compulsive liar? I mean, assuming that their pants aren’t on fire.”
“And that, ladies and gentlemen, is precisely why time travel is not only possible but may have already happened.”
Tagging for interest and signal boosting!

Everything in my house is organized. Totally and completely organized. The bookcase in the office? Organized. The shelves in the laundry room? Organized. The kitchen cabinets? Yep, you can look there. They're organized (for now). But then there are *dun dun dun* the closets. Closets are a blessing and a curse at the same time. On one hand, they give us a place to store our stuff. On the other hand, they give us a place to store tons of stuff that we don't need and a place to hide it away so we never have to deal with it. My house is about a century old, and it only has four closets. One in each bedroom, and one in the laundry room. Out of those four, I only feel like one of them is functional. The other three? Traps for junk, like things I'm planning to donate or things that just don't have another home. Is this a problem for you, too? This post can show you how to organize your closets and keep them organized over time! Say hello to the CHARM system! The CHARM System: C- Start with a Clear GoalH- Adjust your Habits to align with your goalA- Take ActionR- String your habits together into RoutinesM- Have a Positive Mindset Step #1: Envision a Clear Goal for Each Closet On a piece of paper, write a heading for each closet in your house, even if you feel like it's already being used efficiently. Next, set a timer for a minute and write down how you envision each closet being used. If you need some help, just close your eyes and visualize your perfect life, where everything is clean and everyone is happy. You are totally efficient, look completely fabulous, and everyone in your life is happy. In that scenario, how do you envision yourself coming into your home? Where do you put your things? What do you see when you open each of those closets? Include any containers, shelving systems, etc. that you envision. Remember to include how often you see yourself cleaning out each closet in your perfect world :) Here are my goals for each closet: Master Closet: Categorized by clothing type and category. Organized with a chronologically rotating system. Aligns with Stylebook App. Laundry Closet: Holds all cleaning supplies. Also holds unusual items- Halloween costumes, etc. in neat containers. Bin for items to be donated quarterly. Office Closet: Holds outdoorsy stuff, like the stroller, workout equipment. Everything is organized and in its place. Cleaned out every 6 months. My Son's Closet: Out of season clothes kept on the top rack. Shoes on the top rack. Blankets and toys stored on side shelves. Large toys at the bottom. (Want to create a minimalist wardrobe that reflects your personal style? This post will help you!) Step #2: Form Good Habits Now that you have that down on paper, think about what daily habits you would need to create to keep your goal a reality. I'm not talking about "Go to Home Depot and buy a shelving system." I'm talking about consistent things like putting your clothes away at the same time of day. Here are the habits I'll need to get into to keep my closets looking the way I want them. Set your timer for one minute and write down how you see yourself "interacting" with each closet (it sounds crazy, but I promise it works!). Here are the habits I need to form to achieve the goal: Master Closet: -Document everything in Stylebook every day. -When I come home each day, put clothes away immediately- behind other clothes in that category. -Every 3 months, re-evaluate items not worn. Laundry Closet: -Put items to donate in "Donate" Bin as notice them. -Donate to Junior League every three months. Office Closet: -Keep free of office clutter. This is not a home for old notebooks. -Identify the things you want to keep and create a new home for them. Cash's Closet: -Put big toys (activity table/balance bike) in here nightly. -Organize his smaller toys by type and in bins on shelves. -Switch out bins weekly. Step #3: Take Action Now that you've identified your Clear Goal and Target Habits, it's time to take action. This is where you get to run to Home Depot and buy that shelving system! Think about what kinds of containers you want. Don't settle for the first containers you find either, look around and find EXACTLY what you want! The size, the color. What you want exists somewhere, and you won't feel happy with your closet if you use ill-fitting containers. Once you have everything you need, it's time to actually organize the closet! I am a big fan of this and I kind of look forward to doing it. Turn on all the lights in the room where you are working, get some water, play some music, and take every. single. thing. out of your closet. Everything. Also Read: 5 Rules for Simplified Style: Get Your Closet Under Control! We dread cleaning out closets because it's work. However, once we've taken everything out, putting things back into the closet becomes the work. You are far less likely to expend energy putting things you don't love back into the closet. You may even find that you only loved about 20% of the things in your closet, and you were just keeping the rest because you didn't want to go through the work of cleaning it out! So start with the things you love the most. If you were packing to leave town for a hurricane, and you knew there was a chance you might never see some of these things again, what would you choose to take with you? Think with that mentality. No excess. (Related: Creative Storage Solutions for Closets) Once you've gotten those things hung back up in your closet, set a limit of some sort. It could be 20 hangers or everything you can fit in one bin. Be ruthless as you slowly decide which things to add back in. And once you've hit your limit, donate the excess that was hiding in your closet! This works for clothes, toys, books, blankets, whatever you're storing in your closets. Most closet organization posts would stop there. You've done the hard work. You've got a nice, clean closet. You're done, right? Well... organizing your closet and keeping your closet organized is kind of like losing weight and keeping it off. It's great if you do it all at once and it looks great afterward. But if you don't change your daily routines, it won't last. This is where Step # 4 comes in... Step #4 comes in: Develop Consistent Routines Look back at your habits. This is the time that you need to use a little discipline and set those habit into motion. One of my habits was to hang up my clothes as soon as I get home. When I get home from work, it's so easy to leave clothes on the floor for "just a few minutes" while I get water, or pick up my son. But when I do that, I'm not respecting the goal that I set for myself. If you tell yourself that you're going to do something, do it. If you let yourself slack off a little here and there, eventually, you'll find yourself right back where you started, being stressed about all the excess junk lurking in your closets. Focus on creating one habit for a month, then another one. Eventually, you'll be able to string your habits together into routines. The routines will keep you from having to have a "closet cleaning" day every year. It may seem silly to consciously think about closets, and create habits and routines for them. BUT every little thing we do throughout the day is made up of habits and routines. When we don't put a lot of thought into them, we fall into bad habits or unproductive routines. However, if you DO put thought and purpose into them, you are one step closer to living the dream life that you envisioned! Related: Closet Cleanout Checklist Step #5: Keep a Positive Mindset Get into the mindset that you are an organized person, your closets are organized, and you don't bring in clutter. One of the biggest ways we sabotage ourselves is by saying "I'm the most disorganized person ever," or "my house is always a mess." DON'T SAY THAT! When you get down on yourself and your messy house, guess how your house will stay? Messy! Find a relevant quote or two that you really like and think it to yourself when you're looking through your closets. Here are a few of my favorites: "Have nothing in your house that you do not know to be useful, or believe to be beautiful." -William Morris "The space in which we live should be for the person we are becoming now, not for the person we were in the past." -Marie Kondo "Life is too complicated not to be orderly." -Martha Stewart Take the time to put everything back where it's supposed to go. Do it for your future self. Think about how much easier it will be to get ready for work in the morning if you don't have to dig through a dresser drawer for something that wasn't hung up correctly! According to Gresham's Law of Planning, every minute spent planning saves you about 10 minutes in the future. So, even though it may be difficult for me to let my son cry for a minute while I hang up my clothes correctly, that helps me have a more efficient morning (which will lead to me having about 10 minutes to play with him before work)! Keep things like this in mind throughout your day! It may be a tiny decision now, but it will help you have a smooth getting ready time in the morning. And isn't that totally worth it?! What systems have you tried to keep your closets clean and organized? How did they work? Share your experiences below! PS- This post was requested by a reader! You can request your own post here! :)

“Face Everything And Rise” – Marie Forleo
Is having a career, a profession, that serves your purpose and feeds your soul with joy, fulfillment, and satisfaction worth the effort and risk to chase? I’ve come across iterations of this sentence several times over the years. Recently, when watching a 2019 wrap up piece from Billy Yang, I was inspired to note it for either a blog or possible podcast. Today, it is going to be part of this blog, as you can tell 😊 and a future podcast to come, I am sure! I’ve said it before and some would disagree, but this world we live in is fantastic and we owe so much of what we have to those that have come before us. The piece from Billy Yang above and the quote in the title from Marie Forleo’s book, Everything is Figureoutable are prime examples. This knowledge and wisdom come into focus at the most necessary time; at least that is what I am experiencing. Marie’s acronym for F.E.A.R above, “face everything and rise,” is a different spin on “false evidence appearing real.” Although I like the latter, the one in the title is much better from my perspective. Maybe it is because the timing is relevant in my case or that is resonates better with me. Don’t know the answer there but I just like it 😊. We talked a bit about fear earlier in the week and how it can hold us back from chasing down what we really believe we should be doing. We discussed leaning into that fear and doing it anyway, becoming courageous. I believe Marie’s take on F.E.A.R. plays right into the fact that we are going to experience fear but let’s face it together, got into it, and rise above it. Sure, it is likely that we will fall face first, embarrass ourselves, and fail at some things, but we will find out many answers along that journey (see Gary Vaynerchuk topic from yesterday)
This takes me to the message I received from the Billy Yang piece about taking on the risk and uncertainly to chase down what we are truly meant to do. Sure, ideally, I would have liked to have stumbled upon my “calling” prior to the ripe age of 45, but this is the journey I am now on. Part of this learning is being able to share these lessons with our girls to help them figure out their calling much earlier in life but that is a topic for another day 😊. So, here we are in 2020 taking that jump and going down the path of creating a new mission that we believe will serve my purpose, feeds my soul, and provides joy, fulfillment & satisfaction to many. There are so many more potential benefits there and we can get into those shortly. Prior to that though, let’s talk about the sacrifice, uncertainty, and of course, the risk. How many of us have convinced ourselves that pursing that vision of yours is not worth the risk? There have been many times in my life I’ve experienced that, but I would describe it differently. For me, it wasn’t worth the work, or at least that is what I convinced myself of. I didn’t see the value of going through the work or taking on that risk. Sitting here today, my belief is that those situations were not worth it! How do I know; because I am here now, writing about this mission 😊.
This brings me to Ms. Forleo’s book again (seriously, you need to read this!!!) and another lesson. We are talking about fear immobilizing us from taking on that new venture and chasing that vision. In the book, and in life, I am sure we’ve experienced this often (I certainly have 😊), we start playing the scenarios in our mind, that risk again! And, it seems those scenarios are worse case right? We dwell on the shit rather than thinking about how great it would be if this path lead to those original thoughts we had when the vision first appeared. We get caught up in the fear and uncertainty, rather than the joy and fulfillment; the fun stuff that makes a new journey so exciting. Maybe I am talking out of my ass, but this is what I’ve felt many times………until now. Well, not totally true; I still have those thoughts and feelings about this next step, but they are not preventing me from moving forward. Billy Yang’s piece and Marie Forleo’s book were timely 😊.
So, let’s break down these scenarios starting with the mean and nasty worst case. When Robin and I; I have to give Robin the credit here because she set this in motion; but when we sat down to start developing mission around the vision (yes, we haven’t made it public yet, only to a few, but we soon will once we’ve gotten a little be further in development) there was a lot of excitement, visualizations on how it could play out, how we can help folks, and how fulfilling it would be to do what I really should be doing!! As we began to take some steps in the process, and shit started to get real, I began to get a bit scared. This is going to take a shit-ton of work! How are we going to make this happen? Make that happen? I have no idea how to do that. Where should we even start? How will I get clients? What about insurance? A license? Training? Etc. Then, what if I fail? Look like a fool? Waste my time? What if this really isn’t what I am supposed to be doing? I think these are all reasonable doubts but that’s it; they are doubts and as I am writing this out, not fun to think about at all. In Marie’s book, she breaks it down even further to REAL worse case; like losing all our investment, time, and life savings to find ourselves jobless, broke, and homeless. I guess we can go further and real worse case for me would be those items plus Robin taking the kids and leaving me. That would be truly the worse case here. However, there is the follow up question – What is the likelihood of that happening? Que faith and belief – 1. Robin won’t take the kids and leave me. How do I know? Nineteen years of being with this woman and her having more belief and faith in me than I sometimes have in myself. Dammit, I am getting emotional. She has been with me through so many crazy ideas and has seen me at my lowest moments in my life. She has stuck with me and continues to do so. My girls, hell, they are tough as nails and even at 16 & 13, pick me up when I need it. Answer the question for you! 2. You know what, I don’t think we even have to go farther than that because the other shit, we won’t get there. We will know whether or not we are on the right path and time will let us know if this is certainly something we should be chasing. I can tell you right now though, we are certainly trying it out! 😊 The thoughts of uncertainly will continue to surface but knowing that the “true worse case” is something we will recover from helps me to keep moving forward!!
Let’s move on to the fun stuff, best case scenario. This list can go on but what comes to my mind immediately is the incredible feelings of joy and fulfillment I have been able to experience in the last 9 months with dipping my toe into this adventure. You may not have caught on but there have been a couple of experiences over that time period which created this idea. I’ve written about them. At the time, at least with the first two, we weren’t aware of the idea, but we became highly in tune with it just last month. Without giving too much away, I was in a few situations where, again, without realizing it, I was actually living out this vision. I was unknowingly doing what we’ve come to believe is what I should be doing. And, those best-case scenarios where realized. Being able to help others realize something they themselves didn’t think was possible, diving headfirst into it with them, side by side, and sharing that experience and growth; wow!! Emotional! Joyful! Fulfilling! Damn right satisfying!! Thinking about the chance to do that others, getting them beyond limits they ever thought was imaginable, whatever that may mean for them; yeah – that is what I want to do. That is what WE are GOING go do. Kind of full circle right and something I think Jim Rohn say; “if you help enough people get what they want, you will get what you want.” I guess it is a bit self-serving, but it is certainly self-less too!!
I know I am being somewhat vague here, but the point is within the process and about being courageous and facing those fears we have. I wanted to share some of our experience here, and now, because we are having these feelings. Well, at least I am, not sure about Robin 😊!! I think it is important to be transparent on here and share what is truly in our hearts and minds. We are all feeling it in some way, shape, or form. None of us are alone out there. To be blessed with so much wisdom out there and be able to share it so our kids, and generations to come can learn from it; that’s key, I think. I don’t want my kids to be 40 years-old before they learn this stuff. I want to expose them to as much of these nuggets as possible; those that I practice and those I don’t; it is up to them to implement them. But I want them to know they exist. We are all off on some type of exciting journey and we don’t have any way of knowing how it will play out. There will be struggles, hardships, challenges, and shit that we have to sift through. We will be scared, and it will be tough as hell at times.
But again, isn’t having a life that serves your purpose and feeds your soul with joy, fulfillment, and satisfaction worth the effort and risk to chase?

✍️ Anne Marie and Charles
Xavier had neverbeen looked at like this by someone. Like he was a predator, and she was waitingfor him to attack…but not afraid herself. No, the woman in white scrubs behind the transparent walls was tactically regardinghim, watching him, readying to react, to engage.Good, he wanted toengage. That was why he was here.“Why do you not trust yourself, Anne Marie?” he asked, “Youhave a moral compass. You wish to follow it. Yet you make your sense of right and wrongbeholden utterly to another.”Anne Marie did not answer him. That was her own tactic, one Xavier found very unusual. In his own experiences with so-called supervillains, many were eager to explain themselves. Sometimes it was simply ego, the love of their own voices and getting to extoll their brilliant plans to what they considered a less mind, but just as often, it was a need to be heard, to be understood, as everyone had. In some cases, it was this need that had made them ‘villains’ in the first place.Anne Marie, by contrast, had proved difficult to…’break’ was not the word he wished to use, but she was clearly determined not to say anything to him, and it had thus far been very difficult in finding any sort of question that could prompt her into it despite this resolve. He was beginning to suspect that she believed he was trying to manipulate her, and felt that the best way to avoid that was to simply not engage, to not give him the chance. Again, different from a great many foes he had faced, who had seen it as an opportunity to best him at what he supposed, for better or worse, his own game. By contrast, Anne Marie apparently did not, if this was the case, believe that she could beat him. Not at this, anyway.Or he might be overthinking all this. It could simply because she didn’t like him.But like him or not, he was going to keep trying.
“Iknow what it is like to feel the burden of control, of the ability to control so much, and so easily,” he continued, ”I wished verymuch growing up that there was someone to tell me what to do. Whenother young men were rebelling, I was longing for any kind ofauthority who could show me right from wrong.”He’d had authoritygrowing up. But it had not been good. Though he supposed, in his own way, Kurt Marko had shown him right from wrong, by so much demonstration of the latter.“Such a distinction is more difficult the older we get, for anyone. But it is even harder for people like us, for psychics. Because we have so many more options than most, and we are given them so earlier.”Perhapswhy she fell so hard into black and white. It was easier than trying to the endless shades of gray. He knew that from personal experience. And yet, if he had not tried to do that, thenhe might be like the very woman he was trying to guide out of thatmindset now.The woman did not answer him. She in fact began to apparently ignore him, no longer staring at him with intense and expectant watchfulness but occupying herself with some smudge on the transparent wall catty-corner to him.He tried another approach.“If you must put your faith in someone, may I askwhy Magneto? I have seen him attract followers through charisma andcoercion alike. But he never met you before, did he? What guided youto him?”Anne Marie did not seem a victim of Erik’s abuse like Toad, nor a schemer like Fabian hoping for apiece of the power. She was far more akin to Exodus, especially inthe religious regard.Charles had been raised nominally Catholic, but he suddenly found himself wishing his upbringing had been moredevout, there might be some cultural aspect to her mindset he wasmissing here. “Will you at least answer me as to why you’re notanswering me?” he finally implored when the silence persisted and she had settled into sitting crosslegged in a corner with her back to him.He could read her mind. But he didn’t want to. Notbecause it wouldn’t be right—he felt it would be, if it would helpwith progress—and not because he couldn’t—he had the power—butbecause her shields, while not sufficient to deny him entry, made‘sneaking’ impossible. She might not be able to keep him out, but shewould know he was there. And that would not make her any moreinclined to trust him.“Coming back to previous points, believe me,I can understand his argument,” Charles said, now offering her information about himself and his own beliefs, rather than interrogating her. Perhaps she would be more inclined to share if he gave her what he asked for her. “In fact, I agree with some aspects. Weshould use our powers to better the lives our fellows. But I believethat should be ALL of us. Human and mutant coexistence is possible, and the more desirable option.”“That’s what we want!” she snapped, suddenly on her feet, facing him, fists clenched. He didn’t think he’d even seen her move. Thought was a fast thing, after all.
“Whydo you keep saying—”And then she stopped.Charles surprised. Not just that she had replied, nor just at the speed and anger with which she’d delivered it, but her claims to have the same ideals. He and Magneto did have similar ideals in many ways, yes, but Erik had neverbelieved that what Charles had just posited was possible. That was why he did what he did, why atworst he had threatened to wipe out the human race—though Charlesbelieved that he would not truly do it, certainly not while in his right mind—and at best desired a benevolentdictatorship in which mutants dominant. He steepled his fingers and leaned forward, displaying polite but sincere innocent interest in his voice.“What do you mean, Anne Marie? Have I been mistaken all this time in what Magnetobelieves?”If she thought he was merely mistaken—she had no wayof knowing all the talks he and Erik had had, he doubted Erik hadrelayed such a thing to her—then might think she could win him to her side over bycorrecting him. Thus, she would explain her beliefs to him, and that would begin a conversation.“If I’ve thoughtwrongly of you, of Magneto, I would like to know. I would hate for usto have been fighting over something we did not in fact disagreeon.”Anne Marie looked distrustful, but also like she was weighing it despite herself. To Xavier’s thrill, she began to speak.“There can be a better world. No suffering, no evil, where humans don’t hurt mutants—or each other. Lord Magneto can bring that about by leading mutants to their destiny, their intended purpose, as the new inheritors of the Earth. We can be shepherds, if they’ll let us. If they let us in charge, if we can make them, however it is we get there—I know they think, maybe we’ll hurt them, like they hurt each other. But we won’t. We’re better. We’re going to be better. But that can’t happen if we’re not the ones in the control. And that has to be fought for.”Ah, so it was the same thing that Magneto desired at his best; mutants in charge, and humans their subordinates. Simply because it was out of good intentions—and good intentions that included the well-being of humans, no less, something he had not expected from her—did not make it a less dangerous idea. As a disabled man, Charles could see the danger in particular of one group deeming another unable and unfit to make their own choices, and to appoint themselves custodians over them.He wanted to ask her more, to ask her why the focus on Magneto, what made him so special and necessary to this end more than any other powerful mutant, but he didn’t get a chance, for she burst out“I want the hurting to stop!”The hurting? Was she inpain? She sounded as though she was when she said this, and she had begun lapsing into Spanish as she went on, clawing at her arms unconsciously as she held herself, flinching away from something he could not see…something he could not see, but was all too familiar with himself.“They hurt each other! It’s all they do! It’s all they everdo! They hurt one another, and then they hurt mutants! It never ends, everything bad keeps happening, they do it over and over and over, and if I have to hurt the bad ones to make sure it all ends, I’ll doit, they SHOULD be hurt for trying to stop this, for not wanting thepain to end! Why can’t they understand, I want to help them, we allwant to help them, Magneto will help us all!”Yes, she was in pain. But not for herself. For others. For the suffering sheunderstood to be in the world. Xavier had believed her insensitive tothe suffering of others, callous to it, a common ailment among psychics. When you were exposed so constantly to something, you built an immunity to it. And yet, right now, she seemed the reverse. But, it need not be one or the other. He knew that too from what he had seen in other psychics…and, sometimes, in himself. She believed herself cutting off a diseased limb to save a healthybody; her care for the healthy body was the compassion that he saw now, but her desire to remove the limb, despite the fact that it was not a limb but living people, was the callousness. Evil begins when you begin to treat people as things.A student who was a fan of fantasy had quoted that at Charles once. He was inclined to agree. Though he knew that in doing so, he damned himself too. Speaking of that…“And,” he said softly, calmly, resisting the urge to try to offer comfort, too sure it would alarm her back into suspicious silence, “What do you believe I’m trying to do?”It took her a moment through tears, but she got it out. That was easier here. Her English was better here too. Or his Spanish, perhaps. With the automatic translation program running, he realized he didn’t really know.“You don’t want us to do that. You want them to be able to keep hurting us. That’s why you try to stop Magneto, with your lies and your claims of peace and your brainwashed X-children.”Not a new accusation. Not from her, not from anyone. Rather than arguing, he asked another question,“Why?Why would I do that? Why would I want that?”“I don’t know!” she screamed, “You’reevil! You’re bad!”Ah, there it was. Despite knowing she thought this, he was rathersurprised at the blunt simplicity of it, No one had ever put it likethat before, said it so plainly. Usually they wrapped it up more complicated wording. But, it made sense from Anne Marie, from what he had seen and sensed of her black and whiteviewpoint. Evil needs no explanation in that paradigm, and it becomeseasier to cope with, easier to fight, because the answer is simply towipe it out. Charles knew that. Charles knew better. He had seen too many minds of bigotsand abusers that were so much more complex in their motivations andreasonings than their actions, and their emotions, would suggest. Indeed, he himself was guilty of so, so much with nothing butgood intentions. In a strange way, he found himself almost longing on some level for theworldview she was locked in, even as he saw what it wrought. Because if he could let himself think like her, then allthe struggles and conundrums and sleepless nights full of secondthoughts come too late…all that would be done, would be gone. He could finally beconfident that he was always doing the right thing.Had she evergone through this, what he felt now? Had she been so lost in ambiguity that she haddriven to the opposite extreme by it? If so…was she happier? Charles had started this session by saying that she didn’t trust herself, but now he envied her forexactly that, for her trust and confidence an unshakeable faith, forher holy hubris, for her unconditional–Andthen a wave of motion swept through her whole body, like a horserearing, moving in a way that should not be possible for a human, sweeping up her spine and out of her arms and then into the wholeroom, the whole room bucking and twisting and swirling, becomingnothing but color—a vague dusty reddish pink that swirled out froma center point—and then color became feeling, war now or neverbanal eden red show me the way to get back to the garden show me thethings I’ve been wishing I’m fading falling star all fire anddefiance and brilliant brilliant light star of wonder star of hope beour defense against the wicked–And he was thrown out.In the real world, Charles blinked, regaining his bearings.“I did notexpect her to do that,” he said, despite knowing his companion had no way of knowing what he referred to.“Did she become aware?,” Erik asked, the companion in question. They were in a reproduction of the Virtual Reality Rehabilitation Room from Utopia, where the being known as “Danger” had been warden to captive enemies of the X-Men such as Donald Pierce and Sebastian Shaw. There, using the virtual reality technology once used to train the X-Men when she had been a room rather than a robot, she kept these men—by coincedence, it had all been men at the time—in a constant virtual world, which they believed to be the real thing, so that she could study them…and, through that, hopefully help them.Utopia was no more, but Danger’s idea lived on. Lying on one of the chairs in the room, the Cerebro-like helmet on her head obscuring her closed eyes, lay Anne Marie in the flesh, seemingly comatose. “No, I don’t thinkso,” said Xavier, looking at her, “But emotions are as much products as the brain as thought, andthought is what this technology is designed to simulate and controland influence. It sends signals to the brain to produce the perception that the subject is in whatever environment, with whatever things happening around them…but a psychic subject can send signals back, and they can alter the world just as much sometimes. It’s something Forge and Jeffries are working out. Danger says we had similar problems with Empath.”He paused, regarding the unconscious woman again, and said, rather distantly, looking at her and not Erik,“You know, she makes me wonder about myself. What I would havebeen if I had been like her, an empath rather than a full telepath.Able to feel the sensations of others, but not the thoughts to givethem context, explanation, to see the reasons why people felt as they did. I wonder if I would not have been morelike she is.”Erik stared at him in utter bafflement. Charles wasamong the most intelligent men he had ever met, cunning andcompassionate in equal measure, his true equal and more. AnneMarie, on the other hand, was at best a mentally ill child, perhapsmentally incompetent even, who had latched on to him as savior likeso many other weakminded scavengers looking for someone else to thinkfor them, deserving of care but not respect, who he pitied and wishedto help…at worst, a deranged lunatic who needed to be containedwhere she could do the least harm, and whom he had nothing butdisgusted contempt for in her thoughtless fanaticism done in his namebecause couldn’t even at least claim her own actions. But no matterwhich way he was currently thinking of her, the idea she could everhave anything in common with Charles, or that Charles could ever be anything like her, no matter what thecircumstances, was…incomprehensible. Erik chalked it up toCharles’s neverending kindness and need to see the best in people; he had witnessed no shortage of that, and been the recipient of most of it. After all, asmuch as mutant power was important to one’s identity, surely it couldnot shape anyone so much as that.

It’s fun. – Rebecca Mader • If there’s one thing I really want for my birthday, that is for the mining company not to mine my daddy’s reserve. – Bindi Irwin • If we celebrate Martin Luther King Jr.’s birthday at a time of presidential inaugurals, this is thanks to Ronald Reagan who created the holiday, and not to the Democratic Congress of the Carter years, which rejected it. – David Horowitz • I’m a summer baby, so I usually have my birthday as a good summer memory. – Sloane Crosley • In 1993 my birthday present was a star on Hollywood’s Walk of Fame. – Annette Funicello • In childhood, we yearn to be grown-ups. In old age, we yearn to be kids. It just seems that all would be wonderful if we didn’t have to celebrate our birthdays in chronological order. – Robert Breault • It does not seem a year Since last we sent to you Our wishes for your special day And all that you would do. And once again we wish you All joyous things and more A day that’s filled with happiness And memories to store. Then when you think in years to come Of Birthdays long ago You may remember fondly How much we love you so. So have a day of pleasure Do things that make you smile For ………….. you are treasured Today and all the while. – Janet Horne • It is lovely, when I forget all birthdays, including my own, to find that somebody remembers me. – Ellen Glasgow • It’s odd the things that people remember. Parents will arrange a birthday party, certain it will stick in your mind forever. You’ll have a nice time, then two years later you’ll be like, ‘There was a pony there? Really? And a clown with one leg?’ – David Sedaris • Mattresses! Beautiful! Let’s go buy a couple of mattresses. Give ’em to people for their birthday. – Lawrence Tierney • May the moments of today become fond memories for tomorrow. Happy Birthday – Rob Jackson • Most of us can remember a time when a birthday – especially if it was one’s own – brightened the world as if a second sun has risen. – Robert – Staughton Lynd • My brother got a .22 for his 12th birthday; I got a .22. He got a hunting knife; I got a hunting knife. – Stephanie Cutter • My first recognition of age setting in was exactly on my 36th birthday. I have no idea why, on this day of all days, I looked in the mirror and realized my face no longer looked young. – Paulina Porizkova • Nicole will come up in conversations where it’s in a part of the conversation. Or we may be somewhere and I would tell some story about their mother and I. You know, we always honor her birthday. – O. J. Simpson • On a royal birthday every house must fly a flag, or the owner would be dragged to a police station and be fined twenty-five rubles. – Mary Antin • Our birthdays are feathers in the broad wing of time. – Jean Paul • Pleas’d look forward, pleas’d to look behind,And count each birthday with a grateful mind. – Alexander Pope • Success is like reaching an important birthday and finding you’re exactly the same. – Audrey Hepburn • The best birthdays of all are those that haven’t arrived yet. – Robert Orben • The best way to remember your wife’s birthday is to forget it once. – Herbert V. I thought, if really want to write, it’s time to start. I picked up the book How to Write a Novel in 90 Days. The author said to just write three pages a day, and I figured, I can do this. I never got past Page 3 of that book. – James Rollins • The way I see it, you should live everyday like its your birthday. – Paris Hilton • Then when you think in years to come Of Birthdays long ago You may remember fondly How much we love you so. – Janet Horne • There are three hundred and sixty-four days when you might get un-birthday presents, and only one for birthday presents, you know. – Lewis Carroll • There is still no cure for the common birthday. – John Glenn
• We didn’t have a whole lot of money when I was growing up either. I would always ask for magic books or magic tricks for my birthday or for Christmas and the rest of the year I either had to mow lawns or find part time jobs to help supplement the cost of doing magic. – Lance Burton • Well, birthdays are merely symbolic of how another year has gone by and how little we’ve grown. No matter how desperate we are that someday a better self will emerge, with each flicker of the candles on the cake, we know it’s not to be, that for the rest of our sad, wretched pathetic lives, this is who we are to the bitter end. Inevitably, irrevocably; happy birthday? No such thing. – Jerry Seinfeld • We’re sending you best wishes And hope your day goes well And that you’ll find some memories With stories you can tell Of how you had a marvelous time And those around you too With fun and lots of laughter And all this just for you.. Have a Very Happy Birthday – Janet Horne • When I was little I thought, isn’t it nice that everybody celebrates on my birthday? Because it’s July 4th. – Gloria Stuart • When I was young and it was someone’s birthday, I didn’t have the money to buy nice presents so I would take my mom’s camera and make a movie parody for whoever’s birthday it was. When I’d show it them, they’d die laughing. That reaction was a high for me, and I loved that feeling. – David Henrie • With a recent birthday, I’ve been acting now for twenty years. – Thayer David • You’re birthday reminds me of the old Chinese scholar….. The Iconography of Outrage - PEER NEWS

The Iconography of Outrage
Some people upset with Nike’s 30th anniversary “Just Do It” campaign featuring Colin Kaepernick, in their outrage, replaced Kaepernick’s image with that of Pat Tillman. In doing so, however, they most likely are politicizing Tillman’s sacrifice and service in a way he wouldn’t have endorsed. (Photo Credit: Bethany J. Brady/Flickr/CC BY 2.0)
Chances are someone you know has given up on using Facebook, Twitter, or both because he or she regards it as a haven for discord and stupidity. Personally, my biggest gripe is there are too many Nazis and far-righters milling about, but I sympathize with the position of those who have forsaken these outlets. After all, when you write a post about how whiteness is a distinction that merits no pride, and the first comment you receive is from someone you don’t know living across the country who suggests you should pick a fight with a “real white man” and find out, you tend to want to roll your eyes, throw your computer in the garbage, and call it a day.
Suffice it to say, though, that outrage isn’t just plentiful in the Twitterverse and within the blogosphere—it may as well be a type of currency for social media. In the era of President Donald Trump, it seemingly has spiked the way bitcoin’s price shot up amid its initial surge.
Liberals are upset with the Trump presidency because, well, it’s a shit show. Conservatives are upset with liberals who are upset with Trump. Progressives are upset with liberals for hewing too close to center. Ultra-conservatives are upset with conservatives for spending too much on war and other things. Trump, on top of all this, tweets in frustration all the time, and most of us will be damned if we can figure out why exactly. In all, it’s an exhausting maelstrom of deprecation and fury.
The demand for outrage-inducing content is such that, in the haste to provide it, people, works of art, etc. can be exploited as icons of this outrage. Often times, this purpose will be served against the express wishes of those whose images or work is being usurped.
A recent salient example of this was when Mollie Tibbetts’ murder at the hands of an undocumented immigrant became a rallying cry for border security and immigration enforcement. Trump and other xenophobes like him once again began beating the drum of immigration “reform,” sounding a call for building a wall and for addressing the alleged flood of dangerous immigrants crossing into the United States.
One person who isn’t joining in with pitchforks and torches, meanwhile, is Ron Tibbetts, Mollie’s father, echoing a position other family members have espoused. In an op-ed piece in the Des Moines Register, he urged people not to “distort her death to advance racist views.” From the piece:
Ten days ago, we learned that Mollie would not be coming home. Shattered, my family set out to celebrate Mollie’s extraordinary life and chose to share our sorrow in private. At the outset, politicians and pundits used Mollie’s death to promote various political agendas. We appealed to them and they graciously stopped. For that, we are grateful.
Sadly, others have ignored our request. They have instead chosen to callously distort and corrupt Mollie’s tragic death to advance a cause she vehemently opposed. I encourage the debate on immigration; there is great merit in its reasonable outcome. But do not appropriate Mollie’s soul in advancing views she believed were profoundly racist. The act grievously extends the crime that stole Mollie from our family and is, to quote Donald Trump Jr., “heartless” and “despicable.”
Make no mistake, Mollie was my daughter and my best friend. At her eulogy, I said Mollie was nobody’s victim. Nor is she a pawn in others’ debate. She may not be able to speak for herself, but I can and will. Please leave us out of your debate. Allow us to grieve in privacy and with dignity. At long last, show some decency. On behalf of my family and Mollie’s memory, I’m imploring you to stop.
It is hard to imagine the heartbreak I would feel having a member of my immediate family die in such a gruesome way, and on top of this, to have people like Candace Owens invoke the racist trope of the white woman attacked by a man of color to further their agenda amid my grief. For that matter, I’m not sure I wouldn’t be angry at the individual who killed someone I love.
Keeping this in mind, I consider it a testament of Ron Tibbetts’ character and of Mollie’s that he would argue against messages of division and hate in the aftermath of learning that she had died. As such, his appeals to not “knowingly foment discord among races” as a “disgrace to our flag” and to “build bridges, not walls” carry much weight. As does his notion that the divisive rhetoric of Trump et al. does not leadership make.
“The Lonesome Death of Mollie Tibbetts” isn’t the only event in recent memory by which Americans, flying a flag of pseudo-patriotism, have taken an idea and run with it despite the explicit objection of its originator. The forthcoming movie First Man, which premiered at the Venice Film Festival, has garnered criticism for not showing the planting of the flag on the moon as part of Apollo 11, a perceived slight against America about which Buzz Aldrin helped kindle outrage. The movie reportedly focuses on Neil Armstrong’s personal journey leading up to the moonwalk, and on that walk, the visit to Little West Crater.
As Neil’s sons Rick and Mark Armstrong have interceded to emphasize, though they believe otherwise, the famed astronaut did not consider himself an “American hero,” a point actor Ryan Gosling, who stars in the film, also stressed. Thus, they defend director Damien Chazelle’s choice. Chazelle himself also explained that he wanted to portray the events of the Apollo 11 moon landing from a different perspective, highlighting the humanity behind Armstrong’s experience and the universality of his achievement. One small step for a man, and one giant leap for mankind, no? Besides, as Armstrong’s sons and others have reasoned, most people nitpicking First Man haven’t actually seen it to tear it asunder.
Then there’s the whole matter of Colin Kaepernick as the face of Nike’s 30th-anniversary advertisement for their “Just Do It” campaign. The print ad, which shows Kaepernick’s face up close and personal, features the tagline, “Believe in something. Even if it means sacrificing everything.” As self-styled arbiters of patriotism and what is good and right would aver, however, Kaepernick hasn’t sacrificed anything, and featuring a non-patriot like him is grounds for divorce.
Consequently, the hashtag #NikeBoycott was trending on Labor Day and into Tuesday, replete with videos of indignant Nike owners burning their sneakers and other apparel, cutting/ripping the telltale “swooshes” out of their clothing, or otherwise vowing to never shop Nike again. I suppose on some level I appreciate their enthusiasm, though I submit there are any number of reasons why this is folly, including:
First of all, if you never planned on buying Nike products in the first place, don’t front like your “boycott” means anything. It’s like people who complained about the Starbucks red nondenominational “holiday” cup controversy. Come on—you know y’all were only getting your coffee from Dunkin’ Donuts.
Assuming you did actually buy Nike sneakers and apparel, burning things doesn’t take the money back. As far as the company is concerned, you can eat the shoes when you’re done with them. The transaction is done.
Though it seems like a lost point by now, Colin Kaepernick consulted Nate Boyer, a former long snapper in the NFL and U.S. Army Green Beret, about how to protest respectfully. They eventually decided on kneeling rather than sitting as a sort of compromise, evoking the image of the serviceperson kneeling at the grave of a fallen comrade. At any rate, it’s not America or the military that Kaepernick and others have protested—it’s the treatment of people of color at the hands of law enforcement, the criminal justice system, and other rigged institutions.
A more meaningful boycott directed at Nike would be recognizing the company’s questionable commitment to worker rights here and abroad over the past few decades, including more recent allegations of a corporate culture that discriminates against women. Just saying.
As I’m sure numerous veterans would agree, regardless of what you think about Kaepernick and his playing ability, fighting overseas for inalienable human rights just to see players deprived of the right to protest—that is, able to enjoy fewer freedoms—does not indicate progress.
The financial fallout from Nike’s taking a stand, of course, still needs to be measured. There’s also the notion that aligning with Colin Kaepernick will ruffle feathers of NFL executives and team owners. Still, one reasons Nike would not make such a potentially controversial move without knowing what it was doing, or at least figuring it was a gamble worth taking.
Going back to social media and expression of outrage, people unhappy about Nike’s decision to celebrate a figure in Kaepernick they perceive to be a spoiled rich athlete who doesn’t know the meaning of the word sacrifice also have been active in creating and sharing parodies of Nike’s advertisement with the late Pat Tillman, another NFL player/serviceperson, swapped in for Kaepernick. While Tillman is certainly worth the admiration, it appears doubtful he would want his image used in this way.
In fact, as many would suggest, based on his political views, it’s Kaepernick he would support, not the other way around. Marie Tillman, Pat’s wife, while not specifically endorsing player protests, nonetheless publicly rebuked Trump for retweeting a post using her husband’s image. As she put it, “The very action of self expression and the freedom to speak from one’s heart—no matter those views—is what Pat and so many other Americans have given their lives for. Even if they don’t always agree with those views.” As with Ron Tibbetts’s pleas not to exploit or capitalize his daughter’s death, Marie’s desire not to see her husband’s sacrifice and service politicized is one worth honoring.
There’s any number of examples of people’s art and memories being used without their permission (assuming they can give it) despite requests to the contrary. Recently, Aerosmith frontman Steven Tyler sent a cease-and-desist letter to President Trump warning him not to use his (Tyler’s) music without his (Tyler’s) permission at his (Trump’s) political rallies. As Tyler insists, this is strictly about copyright protection—not about politics. As Trump insists, he already has the rights to use Aerosmith’s songs. If I’m believing one or the other, I’ll opt for the one who isn’t a serial liar, cheater, predator, and fraud, but you may do with these examples as you wish.
The larger point here, however, is that in the zeal for sparking outrage about political and social issues, there too frequently seems to be a failure to appreciate context—if not a blatant disregard for it. Mollie Tibbetts didn’t believe in an immigration policy which vilifies Latinx immigrants and other people of color. Neil Armstrong, in all likelihood, wouldn’t have balked at choosing not to show the planting of the U.S. flag on the moon. Pat Tillman probably would’ve backed the ability of Colin Kaepernick and other NFL players to protest during the playing of the National Anthem.
In all cases, a politically-motivated counternarrative threatens to derail meaningful discussion on the underlying subject matter. The outrage builds, as does the mistrust. The few issues upon which we disagree potentially overshadow the larger consensus we share on important topics. Sadly, this also seems to be the way many representatives of the major political parties like it.
I’ve highlighted examples in which people of a conservative mindset have co-opted other people’s memories and works amid their expression of anger and resentment. This is not to say, mind you, that there aren’t occurrences on the other end of the political spectrum.
Not long ago, actor Peter Dinklage had to intervene to defray a controversy surrounding his casting as Hervé Villechaize in a forthcoming biopic about the late actor and painter. The charge was that this casting was a case of Hollywood “whitewashing.” As Dinklage explained in an interview, however, Villechaize is not Asian, as some people believe or claim, but suffered from a particular form of dwarfism that explains why they might assume this ethnicity. From the interview:
There’s this term “whitewashing.” I completely understand that. But Hervé wasn’t Filipino. Dwarfism manifests physically in many different ways. I have a very different type of dwarfism than Hervé had. I’ve met his brother and other members of his family. He was French, and of German and English descent. So it’s strange these people are saying he’s Filipino. They kind of don’t have any information. I don’t want to step on anybody’s toes or sense of justice because I feel the exact same way when there’s some weird racial profile. But these people think they’re doing the right thing politically and morally and it’s actually getting flipped because what they’re doing is judging and assuming what he is ethnically based on his looks alone. He has a very unique face and people have to be very careful about this stuff. This [movie] isn’t Breakfast at Tiffany’s. Personally, I would never do that, and I haven’t done that, because he wasn’t. People are jumping to conclusions based on a man’s appearance alone and that saddens me.
Jumping to conclusions—on the Internet? Well, I never! Dinklage seems to take this in stride along the lines of folks meaning well, but not necessarily being well informed. In this instance, the error is fairly innocuous, but the rush to judgment in today’s climate of information sharing can have serious consequences. There’s a lesson here, no matter what your political inclinations.
As for the Nike/Colin Kaepernick business which Donald Trump may very well be tweeting about right now, Drew Magary, writing for GQ, insists that something is “hopelessly broken” when people feel compelled to champion the company synonymous with the swoosh for taking a stand. He writes:
Corporations already control so much in America that people are compelled—happy, even—to depend on them as beacons of social change, because they are now the ONLY possible drivers of it. I shouldn’t need Nike to get police departments to stop being violent and corrupt. Making decent shoes is hard enough for them, you know what I mean? But I’m forced to applaud their efforts here only because I live in a world where people cannot effect anywhere near the level of change that a billion-dollar corporation can. The social compact of this nation was meant to be between its citizens, but brands have essentially hijacked that compact, driving all meaningful conversation within. A great many brands have performed a great many acts of evil thanks to this. Others have talked up a big game while still being evil (that’s you, Silicon Valley). Only rarely do brands use their ownership of the social compact for good and genuine ends, and even then it accomplishes far less than what actual PEOPLE could accomplish if they had that compact to themselves once more. Politically speaking, one Colin Kaepernick ought to be worth a million Nikes.
Instead, as Magary tells it, “we live in a country where causes only to get to see daylight if they have a sponsor attached.” It’s a particularly bad phenomenon because corporations like Nike exist for their own benefit and have no “obligation to society.” Thus, if we need an athletic apparel company to lecture us on the virtues of sacrifice and of protesting police brutality, or if we need a pizza company to fill in potholes that municipalities can’t or won’t address, you know we’re in pretty bad shape.
While we contemplate our eroding civic virtue and crumbling infrastructure—a contemplation none too heartening, at that—we might also consider what we can do to end the “internet outrage cycle,” as Spencer Kornhaber, staff writer at The Atlantic, put it. Certainly, much as discretion may be deemed the better part of valor, discretion about what to post or tweet and whether to do so seems fundamental to limiting the reactionary culture of outrage, and outrage about others’ outrage that plagues much of interaction on contentious topics. Besides, while we’re dabbling in truisms, if one doesn’t have anything nice to say, perhaps one shouldn’t say anything at all.
Social media giants like Facebook and Twitter aren’t going anywhere anytime soon, and their ability to organize for meritorious purposes is too profound to ignore. If we’re going to use them constructively, we will need to resist the iconography of outrage, specifically that which distorts images and people to serve a new agenda. At a time when ownership of creative works can get lost in the ability to share them, and when public figures can become buried under an avalanche of negativity, it’s best to do our homework and to pick our battles when choosing a cause to fight for.

The Best Dating Advice Articles from 2017
Where do you turn to for dating advice? Chances are it’s a trusted friend, family member, or therapist. Or maybe, it’s the internet. The world wide web has become something of an expert on dating advice in the last few years; a simple search for the term “dating advice” yields over 665 million results in just .58 seconds. So, with that many suggestions, what should you click on first? We rounded up some of the best dating advice articles of 2017 to get you started.
“8 Ways to Have a Better Relationship in 2018” via The New York Times What makes this dating advice article so great is that it’s filled with suggestions that are actually doable. And they’re the type of suggestions that you know you need to hear and that you know you should take. But hey, sometimes it takes an article reminding you to put away your phone or get more sleep to remember why you should do it.
“Why I Bring All My Baggage on My First Dates” via The Cut This article so perfectly puts to words that feeling of not knowing how much of yourself to share at first. Should you slowly reveal details about yourself (like being divorced and/or having kids) over time based on how serious you are about someone? Or should you just lay it all on the line from the get-go? The author learned that full transparency from the beginning worked best for her, and reading how her dates and matches reacted is truly fascinating.
“I Eloped at 25, Divorced at 26, and Dated My Way Across Europe All Summer” via Marie Claire If the headline of this one doesn’t immediately pull you in, we don’t know what will. It’s a whirlwind personal essay about getting married, getting divorced, and using dating apps abroad that reads like a romantic comedy.
“11 Practical Ways To Date In 2017” via HuffPost Canada We were immediately struck by one word in particular in this headline: “practical.” Because why can’t dating be practical? We put so much pressure on it to go perfectly, which ends up leaving us disappointed nine times out of 10. So, if it helps, try looking at dating as less of a tossup and more of something that you can plan for. It might not work for everyone, but it’s worth a shot.
“16 ways men and women date differently, and first date tips for both” via British GQ This dating advice article is rather blunt and to the point, but we appreciate the honesty. You might find it a bit stereotypical—for example, not every woman overanalyzes everything, and not every man is turned off by over eagerness—but there are a lot of good truths in here that are worth remembering.
“You’re doing it wrong: 10 new rules for dating” via New York Post We’re fascinated by the concept of dating rules because they keep changing. Any time a new list or dating advice article insists that we’re “doing it wrong,” we’re all ears. One new rule in particular that caught our eye? A lot of people aren’t waiting until the third date—or even the first—to have sex anymore.
“21 Red Flags That Your Boyfriend Sucks” via Seventeen The headline made us laugh, but seriously, the advice inside is spot on. Timeless, too. These 21 red flags are things that we have no problem pointing out to our friends, but sometimes have a hard time recognizing for ourselves. In case you need to hear it, here it is.
“This Was The Best Relationship Advice We Heard In 2017” via mindbodygreen There’s a lot of great dating advice in this article, but one piece that sticks out in particular is about sexual fluidity. It cites research about how now, many Millennials are rejecting the idea of labeling their sexual identity, instead opting for pansexuality. It will be interesting to see how online dating, which tends to lean heavily on checking boxes, keeps up with an increasingly fluid generation.
“30 Truths About Dating in Your Thirties” via Verily A lot of dating advice articles target specific groups of people: a younger generation, clueless online daters, women over 40, the newly single. But daters in their thirties are often ignored. They’ve been dating for about 10 years now, and it’s assumed that they know what they’re doing. But people in their thirties need dating advice, too! Times have changed for everyone. Single people in their thirties often feel the need to over-apologize for being single. There’s a lot of pressure to be married and have children by the time you’re thirty-something; to some, being single in your thirties might feel like a failure. (It isn’t.) So, let’s see more dating advice articles for people born in the ‘80s, please.
“What It’s Really Like To Be Single In 2017, Because ‘Hookup Culture’ & ‘Dating Apocalypse’ Don’t Define Us” via Bustle Being single right now is complicated. A lot of people think they know what it’s like. But unless you’ve actually been single in the last year or so, then chances are, you probably don’t. This article helps paint a clear picture.
“9 real people share the best relationship advice they’ve ever heard” via Business Insider Sometimes, the best pieces of relationship advice are the tried and true ones that have yielded real results. This dating advice article includes quotes from real people about what’s worked for them before. One of our favorites? “When you and your SO are arguing, remember—it’s you and them vs. the problem. Not you vs. them.” So wise.
“The Best Relationship Advice of the Year” via The Wall Street Journal When we read a dating advice article headline that promises “the best relationship advice of the year,” we’re never sure exactly what we’re going to get. Oftentimes, the list is dated and predictable. But this list was a nice surprise. With advice like “listen, breathe, listen” and “assume the best,” you’ll actually want to take everything it says to heart.
While dating advice will always be subjective, we hope these articles open your mind and challenge what you think you know about modern dating. Now get out there and put the advice to good use!

Why Katlyn Nicole Davis "Suicide" with forced variables Is the saddest moment in U.S. History? This country has came a long way from when it was founded from its 13 colonies to its great 50 states and in only 2 centuries and a half to not only become a superpower but the number one superpower compared to other superpowers being older than a millennium. As I look back the reason why is George Washington's vision for America was the greatest thing to happen to human civilization since the Renaissance because now people were open to express themselves and share ideas and issues human had together George washington said why the hell now that man is civilized do we have to listen to this King who just takes our daily breads and sends his Dukes who basically can pillage or rape any woman they chose so after 250 years of being here and every human on earth dreams of everyday where rights are not granted but are guranteed and the little voicet is always heard whether it be a minority group or a single human being there voice is heard and this is the reason U.S. has became what it is today. Ok over this time this country hasnt been perfect us as human beings always make mistakes whether siding with the wrong country or abusing power over their own citizens due to economic panic and stress. This country went to war 20 years after it was founded due to not renewing a bank contract but came out with minor damages but still stride on.U.S. learned that although the Bank plays a major role in the economy they must be kept an eye on due to some of the bankers will choose greed of dignity Then there was the Mexican American war where General Zachary Taylor freed Mexicans from tyranny people oppose this today but they didnt know that the Mexicans living in California through Utah were begging U.S. to aide then for decades on end to help them from unjust treatment and General Zachary Taylor decided it was finally time becsuse he couldnt bear another cry for help from them. U.s. learned from this that people living under tyranny are in need of aide just as much as the american citizen. Civil war where hundreds of thousands were killed but still this country survived also realizing all races deserve George Washington's vision for america. See man just became civilized 15000 years ago and its a learning process but if man isnt expose to the issues then he wont even bother thinking their issues to begin with. Then there was world war 1 which u.s. fought someone elses war and lost hundreds of thousands lives but u.s. realized that me and my brother will fight the opressing forces but if our cousins are being opressed is just as bad as if we are. Then came the great depression when business took greed over self dignity and caused havoc on the economy u.s. learned we were just transcending from Colonials days 100 years prior and it wasnt about going out in the wild to hunt or gather wood it was the start of the modern world then world war 2 and korean and vietnam and Iraq wars which U.S. has fought and one I always admired about U.S. Wartime Generals they always proved that they actually took Self dignity over greed especially my favorite General in history General Mcarthur because his love for this country the way he went about the war and the fact he had a chance to ransack Japan for Billions if he wanted when they surrendered but he took Dignity of Self greed and honored the true American tradition and what it meant to him if that wasnt the case thrn General Mcarthur grandson wouldve still been the Emperor of Japan. All these wars hundreds of thousands of lives were lost as General Swharkopf put it 1 life loss is 1 to many and not to mention each life loss strikes tragedy in their families and burdens on their communities. Then came 9/11 which effect every American but aftwerwards the United States reformed its U.S. Policy and reminded us that we are not invincible although we are strong willed. So why is it that Katlyn Nicole Davis tops all these as the saddest moment in U.S. History. The first is the story itself a 12 year old American girl commits suicide that alone will strike at any mans heart.:( Then everyone wants to know why Katlyn why did she do it. The media states she did it because her moma was a child abuser thats why she did it:(:( before any real investigation could be inducted the news and media were coming out with stories on how the family had problems at home amd her being abused at home was a key factor to her suicide and she wasnt healthy. Katlyn for a 12 year appeared alright to me Her mom. Fed her clothed her and held her in her stomach for 9 months to my judgement katlyns mon took care if her dsughter better than most out there. Then bloggers all over the internet added insult to injury stating she did it because her moma was a child abuser and a whore.:(:(:( The fact no one really takes bloggers as credible source but it wasnt just one it was a lot of them pointing at her mom saying it was because she was a whore. then add in the fact it was all recorded with her applogizing to god for her selfishness and even worst when she said i just dont deserve this I dont deserve to live immediately whrn i heard her say This i said aloud then none of us do Katlyn and after she commited suicide 10 minutes in you hear her moma in panic stricken voice yelling for her daughter to come home calling all her friends all in the background sound and also the one that felt like my heart just was hit when Katlyns 5 year old brother AJ was heard yelling for Ms. Katlyn to come home while her lifeless body was hanging from that tree. All you here is a little boys voice yelling KAaaTTLYYYYN See Katlyn was a victim of internet stalking and voice 2 skull which caused her to commit suicide it wasnt her moma. In between her saying Im sorry Everyone Im sorry everyone. You can hear a ssssss sound now in slow motion you can hear the elf noise of a older woman saying Soorrrey what i think happened is the fact you need 2 things for v2k to work elf wave sound and white noise. The elf wave is 1 to 40 and the white noise is the background noise which is important for the elf wave to catch onto the the white noise can be anything from car engine to fan or thunder or wind.but if the wave doesnt catch onto the white noise properly the wave sound will be louder than the white noise and thats what happened with the sorrrrey part in her video. She was a 10th generation 12 year old American girl needless to say she shouldve been on the U.S. top priority for defense. Again she was a 10th generation 12 year old american girl wouldn't you think that is what every u.s. citizen considers must be top of the defense list and with 52% of the u.s. budget spent on defense every year it should be a gurantee Katlyn would live her entire life forced suicide or not forced with 52% spent on defense their is plenty of money to protect her civil rights yet no one says a word on this and they ruled a 12 year old girl commited suicide due to negligence at home. Now put yourself in her moma shoes now I mean Katlyn looked healthy to me her moma took care of her but your daughter just commited suicide and everyone in the nation calling you a whore and a child abuser. This is the turning point of the United States downfall I gurantee it this is the moment I can really say after 250 years standing strong this country is going to shits. Katlyn Nicole Davis 10th generation 12 year old american girl your definition of Innocent and your definition of American pie taken advantage of by people with to much control and technology and no one seems to care.I shall mourn you until I die Katlyn you become my Virgin Mary of Phycological Warfare I will never forget you I promise in due time I will go to your hometown 20 miles west of Atlanta (Cedartown) find your moma and say my condolences for your daughter you were a good mom you took care of her may i put these flowers under her tree in the backyard and if she lets me i will go back their look up at that tree and say this Katlyn Nicole Davis O' Great blessed Virgin Mother of God protect me from my demons forgive those who have sinned Attract health abundance love and prosperity O' great blessed Virgin Amen put the flowers under your tree and leave Now I aint no christian or anything but thats what Katlyn believed in and I respect that all in thanks to George Washingtons vision for America. Maybe it started out in the Colonial days fueds between the Protestants and the Quakers but the his concept is the most beautiful concept now this is a fact every man for himself its a dog eat dog world out there and this country has a tendency to turn the other cheeck but i said to my self if you get played for your money or your honey then like Thomas Edison said quote "Its American Humor" needless to say some people go to far but on the end the its mostly the fools fault but that one piece paper brought man to common sense is George Washingtons Vision for America which is the Checks and balance that has been bestowed in the hearts of Men since 1776. Ok he just lost his house and his wife but in respect to the constitution let him attain his self pride and whatever self esteem he has left not in his namesake I aint worried about him but the in giving props to George Washington. See Colin Kapernick is a idiot not standing for pledge of allegiance no one cares Kapernick your a atheist a Quaker its not for that purpose in the nation of freedom of religion you can pray to anything you want but the pledge of allegiance is not about giving respect to god although god in my eyes is most important but pledge of allegiance is about giving props to George Washington for the greatest idea since the renaissance. To mankind: Katlyn Nicole Davis (Itzdolly) I never met you and oddly enough were exact opposite in the demographic scale of every demographic scale living on opposites sides of the united states but I mourn your death everyday I miss you everyday and I love you I truly believe George Washington hung himself with Katlyn Nicole Davis This poor girls rights were completely violated and after it all no justice was served and injustice was added to the victims family:(:(:(:(:( RIP Itzdolly Ms. Katlyn Nicole Davis the saddest moment in American history its not just her stalkers fault but its also my fault and and all 350 000 0000 Americans in this country Katlyns blood is on all our hands and we will all be punished from our greater power for this. It is if like everything Benjamin Franklin George Washington Andrew Jackson worked so hard for and stride on for 250 year of trial and error went down the drain sfter what had happen to Katlyn Nicole Davis, Why my dad struggled so hard in Fall of 1969 to get over with only $10 in his pocket. He had that immigrant hope of a better future for him and his family only deemed possible in the United States. My father who worked for Union Pacific for 23 years fathered 6 children and will add to the American roots. My name is Mohamed Saleh and I am a 2nd generation Arab American from California. I know the world is not perfect and Man struggles to survive everyday but the fact Katlyn had double coverage and yet she was taken advantage of the fact she was protected by the Constitution and the Unwritten rule in the hearts of men should've guaranteed her to live her life. I have 2 sons now and I hope 10 generations down the road I have a grand daughter here in United States that will have the free spirit and love that Katlyn Nicole Davis had. Katlyn Nicole Davis was a 10th generation 12 year old American girl your definition of innocent your definition of American pie. R.I.P. Itzdolly Feb. 20th 2006-Dec.30th 2016 Mohamed Asker Saleh

0237: How To Write A Winning Contractor Resume
This Podcast Is Episode Number 0237 And It Will Be About How to Write a Winning Contractor Resume

-----------------------------------------------------------------
The contracting industry is one of the most highly competitive business industries and you’re going to need a winning resume on your side if you want to stand any chance of standing out among the rest of the people in the same position as you.
There’s so many different aspects to consider and approaches you could take, but at the end of the day, all that matters is that your resume lands you your next job. Today, we’ll explore a few ways you can create this resume for success.
Create a Profile
The first paragraph of your resume is the most important since it’s the first thing your recruiter will read and first impressions count. In this section, you’ll want to write a summary of yourself. In this, include a brief summary of your skills, any security clearances you have as well as any unusual skills or trades that you have. Show Your Competence
Once you’ve drawn your employer into your resume, you’ll want to share what skills you have and why you’d be the perfect contractor. You’ll want to tailor this section, so it suits the job that you’re applying for.
For example, if you’re applying for a job which uses machinery, put your machinery-related skills first and then prioritise the rest of your skills with your least important at the bottom. This is why you need to edit every resume for every job you apply for.
Annie Grindstaff, a resume editor for EliteAssignmentHelp, continues;
“Within the competence section of your resume, it’s important to include any licenses or formal qualifications that you have. If you’re licensed to drive or operate a certain piece of machinery, include this information. The less questions your potential employer has to ask, the better your application will be received.”
Share Your Experience
After your skills, you’ll want to share what past experience you have. This is also your work history, so in chronological order, include your previous job titles, the dates which you worked these jobs, the company’s name and any other relevant information you’d like to include about this role.
In most cases, you’ll want to span this section back to a minimum of ten years. If you don’t have the experience, make sure you share all your experience, whether it was projects you worked on during your time in education or personal projects. Feel free to include photo evidence of your projects.
Use Tools for Perfection
Once you’ve completed your resume, it’s important to go through it and correct any silly mistakes that could cost you your job. Any spelling, grammar or punctuation mistakes show a lack of attention to detail, so it’s important you get rid of them. To make this easier, here are some tools to help.

Other Aspects to Consider

You could even include quotes about your performance from your manager. You may even want to include information on your ability to travel short and long distances to jobs and a note on your flexibility when it comes to working hours. This is what you can end your resume with.

How to Awaken Your Muse: 5 Quick Tips from Highly Productive People
How often do you have that spark of productivity referred to as a muse?
It’s not enough to simply discover your muse. You should be able to awaken it, once you know that it does exist. You cannot daily depend on your muse to appear to the occasion. It may need an instant poke to come into the light. These quick tips help me with my naughty muse. And they can be universal.
Sleep well and set an early alarm.
As trivial as it may sound, an alarm clock awakens not only you, but your muse as well. The famous theater director Rupert Goold claims that his best ideas came from shallow-sleep dreams.
Rupert Goold: “Get an alarm with a long snooze function and set it early. Shallow-sleep dreams have been the source of many of my best ideas.”
However, some genii managed to have a boost of productivity even in their sleep. Thomas Edison and Albert Einstein solved problems while sleeping. While some great scientific discoveries happened in dreams:
August Kekulé began dreaming of atoms dancing and arranging themselves – when he woke up, he realized what he actually dreamed about, and in this way, he discovered the structure of benzene and aromatic chemistry.
Do you remember the periodic table? Dmitri Mendeleev saw the logical arrangement of elements in his dream. He later wrote about it: “In a dream I saw a table where all the elements fell into place as required. Awakening, I immediately wrote it down on a piece of paper.”
Invert.
Think backwards.
Thinking is a productive way to get new ideas and conceive new projects. Though, changing your regular process of thinking can be the most successful path to stir your creative muse. On the contrary, unusual thinking could be an impulse that could kindle your inspiration.
The famous German mathematician Carl Jacobi started with the principle of inversion in mathematics. He insisted: “man muss immer umkehren”, that is, “you must always invert”. Eventfully, inversion became a successful business strategy.
Write backwards.
A British playwright Lucy Prebble says the same about writing.
Lucy Prebble: “Write backwards. Start from the feeling you want the audience to have at the end and then ask, “How might that happen?” continually, until you have a beginning.”
Reverse writing evokes sparkles of productivity and motivates you to build a steady scheme. Consequently, you wake your muse up by rearranging your routine. Such a simulation of shock may be much better than a usual procedure of writing.
Mary Weiler, an innovative content writer at Ultius, confessed in her interview that she writes only backwards, no matter what type of paper it is. She also mentioned: “Writing is a productive process, and its dialectics lies not in the push to write, but rather in the vector we choose. I suggest my colleagues choosing backwards writing, because it certainly boosts chances of successful content, but more likely, it proves the effectiveness of efforts.”
Get to your favorite place.
For many creative people, their room is their favorite place, where the masterpieces go live. The places where you feel more productive than usual are frequently called the habit fields.
Stephen King, for instance, believes that the muse is always attracted to the room the writer works in. He calls his muse “a half-wild beast” and insists that you can’t call a muse, unless it’s ready to come itself. The muse can sometimes vanish for even months. That’s when authors experience the writer’s block.
Susan Philipsz, an artist who won the 2010 Turner Prize, suggests that train journeys are particularly good for your muse. J. K. Rowling’s muse woke up on a train, when she conceived the tremendously popular Harry Potter story while traveling from Manchester to London King’s Cross.
Likewise, the small Caribbean Island of Bermuda was a place where Mark Twain awakened his muse.
For me, it’s nature. I try to go outside, usually walk in the park or in the woods.
Make hasty notes.
A successful novelist, playwright and translator Michael Frayn makes notes every day.
He says, “And certainly at the end of each day’s work I try … to make hasty notes and write down bits and pieces of what’s going to come, anything that’s already in one’s head, sort of scatter it down on the page so that when you start the next day you’ve got some stuff there to work on.”
Richard Branson confessed that he always makes notes and that’s one of the reasons why all the companies he works with become more successful. In fact, storing the data expands mental energy.
I make notes all the time – when I have an instant fantasy flow, I take a pen and sketch a scheme of my article or write down a word that is specifically important for the further plot development.
Take time for solitude.
Charles Dickens didn’t just write his incredible novels, he managed to conquer his muse by solitary walks in parks. Spending time alone helped him notice the details that he sophisticatedly used in his works.
Isolation is one of the key elements of creativity and productivity in the first place. A sudden enlightenment or idea incubation can help your ideas coalesce. Science says, you should communicate with your inner self and here’s how to talk to yourself properly.
One of the most famous Albert Einstein’s quotes goes like this: “The monotony and solitude of a quiet life stimulates the creative mind.” There is nothing wrong with being an introvert and being a productive person at the same time. Quite the opposite. More than that, extraordinary people tend to be more productive and creative and have more chances to awaken their muse.
Conclusion
A muse is a tricky creature. To have a constant flow of productivity, you need to know what stirs your imagination in the first place. Have healthy sleeping habits, invert and make notes, find your happy place and try to have some time to be alone.
