• I think Ballister did try to be the cis ally™ and figure out the label Nimona would use but she'd just shrug her shoulders and say "I don't know, boss, it seems like you care about it more than I do"

• And even though she's NOT a girl, she uses she/her pronouns because 💥YOUR PRONOUNS DON'T DEFINE YOUR GENDER💥 you may use she/her and not be a girl, he/him and not be a boy, I even saw cis people use they/them simply bc they're comfortable. And that's okay!

• Although she's comfortable with people calling her he/they/neopronouns you name it. Just. Not it/its. You know the reasons😬

• Nimona is left-handed and it's CANON actually I am SO HAPPY as a left-handed person she's just like me fr💥💥

• Nimona isn't a big fan of domestic bliss Ambrosius and Ballister spend most of their time in (plus they're very sappy and very much disgustingly in love, Nimona's stoic organism can't handle their mushiness for the dear life), she's like an independent cat I think: comes to hang out, eats, spends time with her father-not-really figures and goes away for weeks only to come back again. She travels the world my dudes✨

• I think she has a bunch of photos from the places she'd been to and talks about her adventures a lot!

• Nimona also is the best cook of the fam I'm afraid. Ballister cooks, like, the bare minimum to serve himself as a functioning adult (rice, salad, pasta, some meat like you know the deal) but nothing too complicated. Ambrosius is a nepo baby who's probably lived in palaces and mansions with dozens of servants do you really think he's good at cooking😭 as he distanced himself from the Institute and moved in with Bal I think he learnt to cook, still not great at it.

• Nimona though? SHE CAN DO *ANYTHING* like she's madly good at cooking. It might look like she's burning the kitchen down only to reveal that she was putting Gordon Ramsay to shame!

Speaking of BallBros

• Ballister's experience is close to a second gen immigrant. Ambrosius's experience is close to a third gen immigrant. They can't be immigrants bc of the context of the story?? I DON'T CARE☺

• Ambrosius doesn't speak his mother tongue except for like a few words or phrases he's heard at home. His older relatives probably make fun of him for it on family gatherings. His parents didn't teach him because they didn't want him to stick out (totally not self projecting here - yeah I'm a third gen immigrant hiii)

• Ballister tho? I think Urdu was his first language but he learned English along the way

• And it kinda mixes in his head so he forgets the words from both languages sometimes and replaces them with the word from the other one (HA my experience again)

• When he's experiencing hard emotions, be it anger, happiness, sadness, or is overwhelmed, he drops English entirely and just starts bantering in Urdu

• Ambrosius didn't know Ballister was bilingual but when he learnt it? He was amazed and I think... Kinda jealous because he didn't get to learn Korean himself (self projection yeahhhhhh)

• "You know your mother tongue? Damn! I wish I did too!"

• That said, Ballister has no idea how to shorten Ambrosius's name (WHAT THE HECK IS THIS NAME BRO WHAT ARE YOU, GOD'S FOOD???), so he sticks to Urdu endearments, "luv" (in the most British accent possible) and "darling"

People who say French/Spanish are the romantic languages are wrong LISTEN TO URDU OR INDIAN LANGUAGES OR ARABIC. THAT'S WHERE LOVE IS DUDE

• Ambrosius has learnt like a few words in Urdu and tries to rizz up Ballister by saying some basic words like "jaan", "mohabbat" and just😭😭😭 fails😭😭😭 because he's a cringefail man😭😭😭

I remember trying to ask out my (NOW EX😔) gf who's Italian by writing "will you be my girlfriend?" in Italian and I used GOOGLE TRANSLATION🧍‍♂️🧍‍♂️ SHE UNDERSTOOD THAT I USED GOOGLE AND POINTED IT OUT AS A JOKE BUT I CRINGED AT MYSELF SO HARD..... Ambrosius would totally do that too and Ballister would chuckle and pull him in a kiss bc he loves this cringefail man so much

• Ambrosius also serenades like I KNOW DAMN WELL HE DOES. He goes "this one's for you, Bal" with a wink and sings like the sappiest most disgusting love ballad ever and Ballister tries his best not to laugh because that's his beloved boyfriend but also like.... So cringe. So embarrassing😭😭 Nimona has more balls than her boss so she would outright say that it's cringe

• Also. I don't agree with people saying Ambrosius's a jock because have you seen this man?? He's a theatre kid. The worst kind of theatre kid. Even after not being a kid anymore he's still a theatre kid. BRO IS A HAMILTON FAN UNIRONICALLY, OF COURSE HE IS. He makes weirdass references to musicals and giggles like an idiot

• Can we agree that Ambrosius was an awakening for many teenagers because OOOOH BOY he sure would be mine. Some pop news youtube channel probably has a video of him reading the kingdom's equivalent of "thirst tweets", like yknow this type of vids😭😭

• Diego the squire runs a fan page account with edits of Ballister like he's some pop celebrity

• He also may or may not write self-indulgent "Ballister x reader" fanfiction in his off duty time

• Also hc that when Ballister was on the run he saw some "WANTED" poster of him and hang up on the wall like yeah boy's crush is EMBARRASSING (can we blame him? I'm the same with Riz Ahmed)

• Todd would be on the "straight" side of their equivalent to TikTok. You know the ones with shirtless men with the same haircuts who think they're hot when in reality they're not?? That's what Todd and his friends are up to in their free time *throws up*

To wrap it all up NOT with Todd, some super random ones:

• Ballister and Ambrosius force Nimona to take her shoes off ("DO NOT bring your European nonsense in this ethnic household") in their house even though she doesn't even have boots on😭😭 it's just her skin😭😭😭 so she morphs her form to simply be shoeless😭😭😭😭

• Ambrosius knows how to tap dance. Idk don't question it I just think he does

• Nimona plays piano YEAH SHE DOES she's lived for 1000+ years man she can do anything

• Ballister's hair routine is "genetics, coconut oil n some prayers"

Author’s Note: FYI, if you haven’t been following along closely since chapter 2, I had the OC be Indian/a brown girl— Just because I felt like we don’t get enough representation. So if you don’t like that, I guess just either live with it, or blur that piece of information out as you go. Also: did I use some random ass generator wheel for some of the super specific information? Yes. Will I change it? Probably not. Did I check if that kinda stuff was even possible? …Mayhaps.

When you finally make it into the restaurant and sit down to order, you immediately spot multiple people, mostly young women, pulling out their phones, trying to (not so) discreetly take photos and videos of the two of you. You could just imagine the headlines and hashtags trending the next day.

Charles is immune to this by now and smiles and waves at some of the phones, and ignores the majority of the others. 

Biting your lip, you scan through the menu. “Charles?”

“Hmm?”

“Would you mind recommending me something? I’ve never been here before”.

“Sure Chéri. Is there anything you don’t or can’t consume? I hate to assume, but I know that lots of Indians are vegetarian”.

“Ah, no. My family and I eat everything, so no worries”.

He orders a Tourte de Blettes for you and a Pissaladiere for himself.

“So. Tell me more about yourself.”

Not knowing how to go about this, you think for a while. “Well, I’m Indian, but I was born in Singapore, and brought up in America”. You count off a finger. “I was certified to be a music producer at a very young age, sometime in secondary school and I have a degree in forensic science. I really love singing, but usually only in my free time. I've actually been working at a producing studio here”. You scrunch your brows trying to recall any interesting details about yourself. “Um, I’m also a dance choreographer for a lot of Korean idol groups and produce music for them too, so I go over there from time to time… I don’t know. What exactly do you want to know?”

When you meet Charles’s eyes again, he’s looking at you with an adoring expression on his face. “You’re so cute, like a little angel. Mon ange” (My angel).

You blush in embarrassment. He asks you more about why you chose your major and what it’s like working with idols while you wait for your meals. “I’d love to hear you sing sometime”.

Just then, the waiter comes with your dishes. Whew, saved by the food! The aromas wafting off the delicious looking dishes are absolutely mouth watering, as if the sights weren’t enough. You begin to split your food in half, and he asks what you’re doing. “Oh- well, my family and I always split our meals equally to try everything, Sorry, I did that out of habit– I can take the piece back–”

“I think I quite like that idea. Here”, He splits his meal and gives it to you as well. 

…

After dinner, the two of you decide to split the bill, because you were unwilling to let Charles pay in full, regardless of whether or not he earned more than you. 

As you walk back home, hand-in-hand and discussing common interests, you find yourself leaning your head on his arm, and later, with his arm around your shoulder. 

When you reach the door to your apartment, he turns to you and moves a strand of hair out of your face. “I liked getting to know you tonight, and I hope you will give me the chance to take you out again”. You make a sound of agreement. Knowing that you aren’t quite ready to have your first kiss yet, you pull him down slightly and get on your tiptoes, kissing his cheek. He smiles and kisses the crown of your head in return, and then ushers you into your home. 

When he leaves, you send him a text. Thank you for the best first date ever.

• Lucio, as a Brazilian, of course would KNOW spicy foods but you know what I think?

• His spice tolerance is laughable. I'm sorry, he just seems like the sort of guy who would eat hot cheetos and Takis by the bag but when you bring in chili peppers, Korean food (Hana forced him to try Buldak) and etc? Count him out 🔥🔥

• When he strolls into the breakroom and sees you, in a competition with Hana to see who can eat the Buldak fastest AND without making faces, he probably shrieked.

• As the mom friend, he'd be completely concerned. Especially how red your face was getting, Hana was tough but she lucked out. After 10 minutes of slurping the noodles, her face was like the sauce, hot red. Lucio helped her, of course but after seeing you were still going he shuffled beside you.

"You can stop now, you won..!" He laughed nervously. You wouldn't stop gorging yourself with the noodles. You paused, took a swig of water. With a completely straight face, "I'm fine, Lucio! These are actually so good."

"Sometimes you really concern me.." He shrugged.

• Your shared love of spice with Kiri was what pretty much started your friendship!

• She saw you munching on some Taki's and you offered some. "Want some? They're not all that spicy but I like the flavor, and crunchyness."

She took a handful, nodding. "Oh yeah?"

• Since then, she's basically your eating-out friend

• You're always trying new restaurants and foods with her, of course they're all spicy. Sometimes it even gets to her and you laugh.

Her face is heated up and she's sweating bullets after downing a taco filled with a bunch of different hot sauces. Her stomach gurgled unpleasantly. Your laugh caught her off guard, "Are you laughing at me?!?"

You nodded, snapping a pic of her troubled state. "This one is so good, look! You're even sweating."

"Yeah, no shit." She huffed, wiping her forehead.

• You and Kiri always have a ton of fun, and she doesn't like to admit it, but she looks up to you.

• I'm sorry I feel like Genji would NOT have a high spice tolerance. Of course, being Japanese, he's used to a certain amount, especially in sushi and such. But when it comes to other spices, like Indian cuisine and Korean, it's too much!

• He found out about your spice tolerance when the team went out to eat, at a local sharwarma place while they were in Suravasa. Most of them shared the food but you got a wrap, with all the spices. Genji looked intrigued.

"Can I try it?" He asked curiously as you dug into your wrap gingerly. You nodded, since your mouth was full of the meat and sauce. He took a small bite, and in that second, you swore you could see steam coming out of his ears. He let it rest on his tongue and you could slowly see his ears turn pink, then his neck and face turned absolutely tomato red. Genji even tried to not make a face, pressing his lips together. He looked hilarious.

• Genji vowed to never try your food again. His tongue still burns when he thinks about it too hard.

14: Do you miss someone?

kind of difficult to answer, though, since i'm not really good with emotions, especially my own. but sometimes i think of my late dad once in a while and miss old friendships that have fallen away a bit.

34: Who/what was your last dream about?

i can't really remember much, actually. but the most recent dream i can recall is about some random actress i don't even know, showing up as a damsel in distress for me to rescue.

i don't know why, maybe it's my subconscious wanting to be helpful and useful, but every single time i dream of someone, especially those i love (including my favorite), i always dream of helping them with something or rescuing them from some apocalyptic event.

i even dreamt of trying to help someone dodge attacks on a large ancient wooden ship while flying demons screamed "beware of seraphim" out of nowhere. i woke up, googled it, and realized that's the name of celestial beings in religion. and i'm like… was that a calling??? wait… who was i helping again? and why am i always the rescuer???

as a thai person, i pretty much eat everything, so it's hard to narrow down my favorite foods. but when it comes to cuisines, i can say i enjoy thai, chinese, japanese, korean, indian, mexican, greek, turkish, italian, french, even american fast food. it seems i enjoy a bit of everything! haha.

in thai culture, we don't like to say that something isn't tasty when we try it and don't enjoy it. instead, we say maybe we just don't get it or perhaps don't really know how to eat it.

⌘ He didn't tell you he saw his drawing, but he he nearly ended up fainting due to being so flustered. But every once in a while, he sneaks that notebook out to see now sketches of him all the time, each in various moments, him eating, sleeping, laughing, smiling, zoning out, and who knows what.

⌘ He also only learnt about your talent in cooking when you were once eating food in the cafeteria and he ended up taking a bite of your tiffin and he was amazed and when he asked who made it, you replied that you made it yourself, he nearly pissed himself thinking you were joking but when you didn't laugh, he was READY to wife you up there right then and there, a ring for you all ready!

⌘ He would often have cooking dates with you, where you both cook something together and then he will play video games while you sketch something or more specifically him!

⌘ He also learnt cooking a bit from his aunt who was trying to earn his forgiveness and so when he requested her to teach him how to cook, she immediately agreed and also his cooking are quickly catching up, you have to do something to get better!!!

⌘ He also buys you as many art supplies you need, whenever you need, he uses his uncle Billy's card, which is kind of full 80% of the time, because he doesn't remember how much he earns and only uses a bit to buy alcohol....

⌘ Oh! Speaking of his uncle and aunt, they meet you and ended up liking you more then Jimmy in an instant, uncle Billy only stops drinking when you are included in the conversation and he loves you like his daughter and so happy you take Jimmy off their hands...

⌘ One thing you both do as dates is that you both cook a dish where one if guiding the other and the other has to follow all the rules given by their guider to make the dishes and so often you both end up ruining the dish and then finally make it together which tastes heavenly after you both are horribly tired!

⌘ He won't admit it, but he loves when you draw him and how focused you are when you're either cooking or drawing, painting or whatever you like to do..

The Best Foreign Restaurants in Niigata City

With the opening of the final new section of Niigata station last week, we now have several more foreign restaurants to add to Niigata's growing list. Even though it sometimes feels like the only foreign restaurants are basic American chains like McDonald's and Domino's, that’s certainly not true. So, let’s talk about some of the best harder-to-find foreign restaurants in Niigata City. 

Burgers

Burgers are generally not too hard to find in Japan in the form of McDonald's and Burger King. However, finding good non-chain burger restaurants can be tricky. Leather Tramp Kitchen has good big burgers for around 1500 yen, as well as some other sandwiches and even milkshakes and fries. It’s run by a really nice guy, whose brother also owns a donut shop near Furumachi called Howdy Donut.

Mexican Food

On the other hand, Mexican food isn't always easy to find in Japan. However, Niigata City does have at least one good Mexican restaurant. El Mirasol is the best Mexican restaurant in Niigata City. They have everything from burritos to tacos to hot chocolate, and the owner is a very sweet lady who speaks a little English and will actually make the food spicy if you want.

English Pubs

One of the new restaurants at Niigata station is the English Pub-style restaurant called HUB Echigo Beer Pub. A collaboration between HUB English-style Pubs and Niigata’s Echigo Beer, it has a great atmosphere, good food, and lots of cool mixed drinks (including some non-alcoholic). You can grab some classic English favorites with a nice Echigo Beer or share one of the Liter Tower drinks with some friends.

Another good English Pub-style restaurant is The Liffey Tavern. There are actually three Liffey’s in Niigata City (two by Niigata Station, one near Furumachi) and one in Nagaoka. They also serve English favorites like Fish & Chips and Shepherd's Pie along with drinks like Guinness beer and Bailey’s Irish Cream.

Indian Curry

One of my favorite foreign foods in Japan is Indian curry. There’s just something nice about a good bowl of curry and a piece of naan bigger than my head that is very satisfying. One excellent Indian curry restaurant in Niigata City is Parbati Restaurant & Bar, sometimes affectionately referred to as The Orange Curry Place for its bright orange building. You can get a curry set with naan, rice, a salad, and a drink for around just 1500 yen.

Another good Indian curry restaurant is Star Curry in Furumachi. They offer similar curry sets for a good price and a wide variety of other foods. And if you’re over by the Niigata Aquarium, there’s a buffet-style curry place that’s only about 2000 yen.

Vietnamese Pho

Pho Minh is another new restaurant in Niigata station that serves Vietnamese pho. Their main dishes are different types of beef pho, but there are also several side dishes and drinks. You can even get a beef pho, side dish, and drink as a set for 1550 yen. The flat noodles are thicker and wider than I’m used to at American pho restaurants, but it was still pretty good and the lotus tea I got with it was also nice.

Thai Food

Sengdee Thai Beer Station is Niigata station's new Thai food restaurant. It opened in April with the other restaurants in 2F East Niigata Bar-Ramen Yokocho, and it serves both a good variety of Thai food and also Thai beers.

Korean Food

Korean food isn’t exactly hard to find in Japan but if you’re in Niigata City, you should try Kangeki. Right next to Niigata station, they have a wide variety of Korean foods including Chijimi and Tteokbokki. Many of their foods can also be pretty spicy if that’s something you miss when eating a lot of Japanese cuisine. Just don’t buy their Soju since they sell the same bottles at convenience stores for half the price.

You can also get good Korean gimbap at Gangnam Gimbap in Niigata Station as well as a variety of Korean side dishes.

Even though it’s harder to find certain foreign foods in Japan, you can still find some really great foreign restaurants. As much as I love Japanese food, sometimes you just need to break it up with something different. Any of these foreign restaurants in Niigata City are sure to give you exactly that, or you can go by the international store Jupiter and make something yourself.

i don't want this to seem like I'm fetishizing east asians because i'm really not (or I hope im not), this take comes more from a envious and jealous outlook

but everyday or every other month I get this all around sudden hatred for my own heritage. im south asian. the asian that no one seems to actually think of asian. im not smooth and hairless, I stink of curry and I grow more hair than the average white man. I hold body fat like a pig because of decades of forced famines under British rule. our food isnt healthy, its drenched in more oil and grease you could find in Saudi Arabia. Nothing like fermented kimchi that keeps you young and is gut healthy for future you.

Nothing about being south asian makes me proud. Im not envied or appreciated, im mocked and laughed at. No one looks at me and thinks asian, they think Indian when im not even Indian, im Sri Lankan. A country no one probably knows of. A more educated and cultured person would say Eelam tamil, but I didnt know any of that till I was 15 by the internet.

what makes being asian on them look so special and not me

On Authenticity

So last week I made a post about the food id expect to find in china town. Specifically, I talked about Cantonese food, and more broadly American Chinese food, and how I expected to get a more “ authentic “ experience in Chinatown. One of you responded to my post; user afedskdln wrote

"Hi. As a Chinese who have been to the SF Chinatown many many times. I have to say most of the food there is not authentic enough, but as a means to communicate culture, I am pretty sure most of them are worth trying. I would really recommend the one shown in your first picture -- "The Spicy Shrimp" -- where I believe makes the best Chueng Fueng (肠粉) in that area. Just go and ask for the egg and pork chueng fueng!"

So I wanted to take this post as an opportunity to comment on authenticity, and what qualifies a food as being, or not being, authentic.

So let's take a step back and look at Chinese food, or maybe food in general, as a whole. So china is, to put it mildly, a very large country. A quick glance online shows that china is the fourth largest country by area, and the single largest by population, boasting over a billion people strong. It's important to note that there is no one cuisine that can encapsulate this entire population, but much like how ‘European food’ will differ from country to country, ‘Chinese food’ will differ from region to region, calling into question what exactly is the defining Chinese food. 

But to extrapolate even further, we should note that, throughout history, borders and people have been rather porous. The borders of china have changed radically over the past two millennia, and chinas historical sphere of influence (including the culinary sphere of influence) extends into neighboring countries, such as japan and Vietnam. One should therefore ask- are many Japanese dishes, which are influenced by Chinese techniques, actually a variety of Chinese food? Moreover, are regions of china, say Manchuria, which have culturally and historically been distinct or even separate from what we would call china, Chinese food? The fact is, the question of authenticity is rather a socially constructed question and is subject to change over time and from place to place.

But let's take Chinese food to be food which is made in the country of china itself. In that case, yes Chinese food in San Francisco isn't authentic because its not made in china, and may not use exact ingredients from china. However, why exactly does that make it inauthentic? Let's go back to my point about borders being historically porous. What this implies is that people and nationalities have been historically divided by borders-take, for example, the Korean minority in northeast china, is their cuisine not Korean, simply because they do not live in Korea? I disagree with that claim. The cuisine is much more linked to the culture which undergirds it, rather than the place it was made, or the ingredients it uses. Different plants grow in the Americas than in Asia, and by and large, different cultures and nationalities live in both respective places. As such, the Chinese diaspora in America has adapted its cuisine to fit the common American palate and to use the local ingredients, all while taking inspiration from the culture from which it came. Does that make it inauthentic? Id argue that American Chinese food is authentic to American Chinese food. Just like how Indian food made by Britains Indian community is still considered to be Indian food, in the same way, what we may get at a dim sum joint in San Francisco, or even our local panda express, is a variety and flavor of Chinese food, almost a distant cousin of the cuisine actually produced in china.

I think that The Spruce Eats author Su-Jit Lin put this general point well, in an article she wrote, saying;

“ Yet who defines authenticity? Because to me, a Chinese American woman who grew up in an American Chinese restaurant, there is nothing more authentic to my lived cultural experience than the dishes of my childhood.”

do you like candy corn? It’s nowhere near as terrible as some people make them out to be, but the taste is also...boring? For me it’s just some chewyish candy with an forgettable taste. I definitely wouldn’t have an idea what to do if I suddenly had a sack of candy corn given to me.

what is the strangest food combination you like? Sausage and marshmallow on a stick might sound weird to others but it’s a staple in birthday parties here, so I’ll go with that.

do you usually eat breakfast? No, I don’t. I usually consume just coffee; the only times I have breakfast are on the weekends, or if I’m on vacation and the accommodation has a breakfast buffets.

what was your favorite food as a kid? I was a VERY picky eater as a kid, and I can just imagine the many headaches I gave my elders when they’d try to feed me. That said, I didn’t have a long list of favorite food and I only liked to eat eggs and hotdogs. And fast food spaghetti lol. I had a hard time swallowing anything else.

favorite fast food place? Jollibee and KFC.

favorite soda? Sprite if I had a gun to my head.

do you like sweet or unsweet tea? Uhhh I like the artificial/powdered iced tea that’s common where I live, wherever that falls under.

how do you like your coffee? (or do you drink coffee at all?) My palate for coffee is pretty flexible and I’m fine taking it either black or filled with stuff that’d make it sweeter. That said, my go-to coffee orders are Americanos and caramel macchiato.

do you like bubble tea? If that’s the same as what we call milk tea, then yeah. Weirdly enough though, I prefer it without the pearls; I just like milk tea for the taste of the tea itself. I don’t like how I have to chew on something that doesn’t even taste like anything hahaha.

do you like curry? I LOVE curry. Give me all the kinds and all the spice levels known to man.

favorite type of cuisine? Anything from Asia is a favorite but my top cuisines would be Indian, Korean, Thai, and Indonesian. Japanese would count but I feel like I get just sushi and ramen most of the time so I don’t think it’s deserving of a podium finish ha.

favorite sandwich? Monte Cristos.

favorite cheese? Mozzarella, burrata, and feta.

have you ever been vegan or vegetarian? No. I went through a period where I wanted to switch to a vegan diet, but that was easily squashed when I realized how inaccessible such a lifestyle is here. I still go for vegan options whenever I can, but I don’t think I can ever be fully so.

favorite breakfast cereal? I like Oreo O’s and Cookie Crisps but I am most likely to eat them on its own. Don’t like it when cereal gets soggy and starts tasting like nothing.

Did I really ask that many times?👀 I actually asked for some good Indian food recs when I was in the uk but I ended up ordering Korean food instead (which I felt very sorry about because a lot of you recommended it to me but most things weren't on the menu😫 and I was craving that pork belly so much😅) but I'll be definitely trying some Indian food as soon as I have the chance! They won't allow us to go to restaurants in our country + there is not an Indian restaurant nearby me so I could at least get a food delivery :(

But it's definitely something I'm excited to try because it looks freaking good🤤

a/n: i did this for my other oc (@svt-vivi) and decided i should do one for amanda. so here is amanda's family and their dynamics

❀Dad❀: Rohan Madduri

age: 1966

career: indian restaurant owner

she has a very close relationship w/ her father

he kept her in touch with her indian heritage by teaching her the language and cooking some spectacular indian food

they go on movie dates often -> he usually calls her when there's a new indian film out and now that she's of age they go for drinks after to catch up

although it took him some time to fully accept her becoming an idol (he wanted her to be a doctor), he always supported her and cheered her up on tough days while she was a trainee

her mom sent a video of him crying when atz got their first win

atinys absolutely love him bc like father like daughter he is a totally savage

when he calls her on her bday lives it often them bickering and atinys find it hilarious

also when he comes to atz concerts, he's always friendly w/ atinys and dancing along and having a blast

he always says the boys are the sons he never had

although he says she is his favorite, she catches him calling jongho more often than her

mostly bc they both are huge soccer fanatics

❀Mom❀: Shin Bora

age: 1970

career: accountant

her mom is a tad bit more overprotective of amanda compared to her dad as her mom considered amanda her miracle child

they can communicate w/ each other w/o even saying anything

both of them aren't really the type to say ily openly often

instead they do it through actions such as checking up on each other, making sure the other is healthy, bringing food, etc.

her mom was also against her becoming an idol mostly bc she knew how hard idol life is and she knew amanda would face strong backlash for her skin tone

she didn't want to see her daughter suffer bc of that

but once she saw how determined amanda was and when she saw her perform for the first time, she became incredibly proud of her daughter

they also spend a lot of time together watching mystery/crime shows and doing jigsaw puzzles

always monitoring on atz's schedule, knows their schedule better than amanda does

her mom loves all the members and treats them like her sons as well

but she has mention she is a fan of yunho bc she thinks he's really sweet correct

❀Grandma❀: Shin Eunchae

age: 1937

she has always been pretty close w/ her grandma since her family would try to visit her yearly

amanda would help take care of her grandma when she wasn't busy with school or training

her grandma loves to spoil her like crazy and always want to buy her things

but amanda isn't a very materialistic person instead she likes spending time w/ her

so you can often find the two together in the living room making commentaries while watching korean dramas

her grandma was the one that helped convince her parents to let her audition as an idol when they were fully against it

she loves all the boys equally and always openly expresses how handsome they are correct

❀Dog❀: Shin Oreo

breed: Maltese

age: 2012

after years of begging, her parents finally gave in and brought home Oreo for her one day

12yr old amanda was ecstatic to come home from school to find a dog laying on her bed

12yr amanda also wasn’t the most creative when coming up w/ names for him but she still loves it nonetheless

growing up w/ amanda got Oreo to have similar personality like her such as a sassy attitude

honestly she should have named her prince instead bc he think he is one

since amanda lives in the dorm and she doesn’t get to see him often and he’s slowly becoming more of her parents pet than hers now

but when she visits home he’s over the moon and it so precious when they meet again
